Last update made the app useless on iPad 3rd generation.
By Christopher Doryan
After updating the app, when opening the app, the app remains stuck on the black login screen. I already deleted the app and downloaded it again, but it just seems stuck on the black initial screen.
I can't give a better rating when I can't even use the app. Apple won't even issue me a refund, because they claim the 60 day window is gone. Sure, I bought it 66 days ago, kudos Apple for your customer support efforts.
I really want to like this app. Well designed user interface, nice set of features, etc. but the app crashes more than it should. I've had to re-install and re-setup the iPhone app because it wouldn't open, I've lost data with Dropbox sync twice, and those who chose to sync with Dropbox don't get features like "Merge Sheets".
Fantastic App for Focused Writing
I usually don't give reviews of apps, I usually don't care enough about an app to take the time, but Ulysses has been a different app for me.
I've tried many different word processors, and note taking apps. I use MS Office extensively at work, and I've used Evernote, OneNote, Apple's Notes, and myriad others. Sometimes I just try notes apps just to see if they're anything special.
Ulysses is the first writing app that I've tried that I really feel actually IS special. It's minimalist, get-out-of-your-way writing, which is exactly what I needed. I didn't want buckets of formatting options, and bells and whistles. I wanted a simple way to keep track of all of my notes, stories, poems, ideas; and when I was ready to write, all of that note hierarchy stuff would get out of my way and all I would see is a blank, white screen.
It's beatiful really. Too many apps are too busy, trying to be "multitasking" apps, which is good for some tasks, but for creative writing and focusing it's not so great.
Ulysses leaves all that behind and eliminates many of the distractions that would keep me from writing and allows me to just write.
Keep up the good guys. I love your app!
I'm a fairly new writer, and I found this app after doing a little bit of research. I use it on a Mac and on my iOS devices. I think it's terrific, way better than MS products.
It is my everyday note taker and the app I use most for writing.
Best in Class
By Steve R42
There's a lot of text editors out there but this one really is way more. It's hub for all of your words, whether for personal use or for work or both. It can be as simple or as powerful as you need it to be. Even better, it's not abandonware. The team has been at it for many years and they are constantly improving the experience. Don't balk at the price. It's worth the premium. The addition of multiple sync locations is terrific. Hopefully they will bring some of the iCloud features to Dropbox as well.
Worth the money!
My favorite thing about this app is that it offers a dark interface for those late night writing sessions.
It's simple and professional. Once you learn the formatting, you'll find the extra focus freeing.
People ask me about this app often when they see me using it.
I think you should buy this app.
Phenomenal. Best writing app I've ever used.
Clean, powerful, and really smart, Ulysses makes it so much easier to write my novel, design a web course, and organize my editorial work. The three-pane library system, tag system, just-enough customization, smart tags, style sheets, amazing implementation of markdown, and countless other details make this a huge boon to productivity and a joy to use. It has everything you need, but mostly gets out of your way. The iPad and iPhone implementation are amazingly thoughtful, and just as good as the Maf version. Soulmen's support is also phenomenal. I've reporter several bugs, made feature requests, and asked them how to do certain things, and they always get back to me quickly. I cannot imagine going back to Word, Scrivener, or the other markdown editors I've tried.
Procrastination and concentration tool
By Kent Barnett
This app is great for those, like me, who procrastinate writing anything. I noticed an increase in concentration because this app maintains my focus. Anyone who is a serious writer should try this app.
My complete writing kit, now on iPhone
This app is great!
Simple markdown writing up front, with plenty of power for editing and output. Keeps all my writing in iCloud, synced across devices,Mitch keywords, notes, attachments -- everything I need for writing work.
When it comes time to output that writing, Word, PDF or even ePub export is right in the app. Even on the phone!
The update brings fantastic iPhone & iPad Pro support.
I have Ulysses on both my phone and computer. It is great to be able to easily work on projects at home and on the go. Definitely worth the money.
I've found no better way to write
Ulysses is special. It can be adapted to suit your workflow. The global search and filter flexibility offer a comprehensive tool set for organization. I've used them all, I've uninstalled them all... but Ulysses is integral.
