stopped working. It no longer works to view remotely on my iPhone. I can only view while WiFi connected at home. All apps are updated at home and on iPhone. Tried using the QR refers to access Zendesk for help and it says the page no longer exists!

OUTDATED SOFTWARE. The app looks like it’s from the early 2000s. Confusing user interface, and the aspect ratio of the app doesn’t even fit the iPhone 8 or X screens. Terrible app. Competitors like Wyze, Ring, and Arlo have much better apps that actually work. DO NOT RECOMMEND UNTIL THEY UPDATE THEIR OUTDATED SOFTWARE.

App is pathetic. If you have their cameras you have no choice but to use their app. It barely works. Never have been able to view motion detection only live view. So you can’t go back and view anything that may have happened. Pretty much worthless. Using on iPhone. Please update your app. You never fix anything.

Terrible Security System - Playback is useless. I bought the Night Owl security system to replace a Q-See system which died after 3 years (At my store). This was a BIG MISTAKE. This system’s software is very primitive in comparison to Q-see and Swann (which I have at home). For me the main reason to have a security system with cameras is to get notified on detection of movement and to be able to easily playback and select the time this movement occurred. Detection works primitively but with very few selective settings, but playback is useless! Playback does not allow you to scan, fast forward, or select any segment of video. You need to watch the entire recording of video to find what you are looking for. If you try to download videos to later use some other video software, you cant find where the video is downloaded, and if you do the file seems to be incompatible with the most popular video editors. SORRY, but this is a very poor security system. They need software developers that know what they are doing.

Multi cam view always goes to single cam view. I had the older version of night owl x hd 1.4.2. I recently updated to the latest version. I have two camera systems of multi cams. When I change from one system to the other the view always comes up as a single portrait view and I have to change to multi camera view to see all cameras. If I select one of the cameras it always comes up as a portrait view and will rotate to landscape view when I rotate the IPAD but I have to rotate back to portrait view to exit the single camera view to get back to multi-camera view. The older version 1.4.2 did not require me to do this. This newer version is very inconvenient. Are you going to fix this problem? Also can you provide me with the older version? I am very unhappy with this version.

Warning do not purchase!. Hard time setting up account and app does not work on any of our company devices. Freezes and kicks you out of the app. Already called customer service but still have same issues. Removed app and reloaded but still no help.

ZERO STARS. This whole system is garbage. Look elsewhere, you will spend more time trying to get the app to work then you recordings. Worst purchase I ever made if I didn’t spend so much time installing this hunk of junk I would take it all back. My old battery powered Blink system was a MILLION times better for half the price.

Don’t waste your time or money. This system is a joke... an absolute joke. No functionality. No playback features. Documents provided via their website is absolute no help. Go here and click this and search search search. The documents provided is nothing like the software provided. Live view is laggy and often freezes up. I could keep going but I’m sure you get the broken picture. If I could get my money back I would. $300 down the drain

App keeps crashing. Once again, the app continues to crash and can't be used for remote viewing. That's one of the benefits of having cameras - to be able to review what's going on remotely. This system, without a working app, is useless to me. I plan to install cameras at another business I own and WILL NOT use a Night Owl system next time.

Multi-cam live stream only updates screen every 10 seconds. Why does the X HD app streaming from a XHD30 to an iPad only update the multi-cam view every 10 seconds? It’s not a bandwidth issue...the X app (not HD) streams nicely in multi-cam view on the same iPad. This makes using this ‘overall view’ worthless for live monitoring in the X HD app. Both apps function OK, but the X app (obviously written for an iPhone) doesn’t screen format properly for iPad (portrait mode) and is clumsy to use on it as it requires continually rotating the iPad to move from one camera to the next. The X app works more naturally on my iPhone.

Development seems to have ceased. Over a year ago a promise was made, in a reply to another person’s review, to get the development team involved with fixing the issues with the video frame losses occurring in this app that does not occur in the non-HD version - and is in no way related to insufficient bandwidth for HD streams. As of today there has still been no app update for over a year to even attempt fixing that issue. On top of that there has been no attempt to fix the consistent app crashes reported. What has this company’s iOS development team been doing for the last year? Along with this app, the browser interface on the device has still not been updated to support anything other than the old Internet Explorer. If that wasn’t enough, the Night Owl CMS Windows app still has not been updated (again..more than a year that I know of) to fix the very high CPU usage problem (bogs down even my 8th Gen Intel i7 machine with dual GPUs) that makes that viewing option unusable, too. All of this has made very limited usability out of a system that promised so much - but has yet to deliver even a quarter of that promise...

Latest update... really?. This latest update, all you did was make it the regular non HD Night Owl X app... yeah the Night Owl X HD crashed every 5 seconds, but at least when it was in “HD Streaming” the HD worked! Seriously, all you did was transfer over the EXACT non HD app. It’s exactly the same... with the same issues and everything. If you click on HD Streaming, it never works. You literally have to click it over and over until it decides to work. And when it does work... any movement, it’s just a big blob of pixels. And no, it’s not my internet... as the previous version of Night Owl X HD streaming of HD worked great. I’d take the constant crashing over this mess any day... this isn’t even usable. What’s the point if you can’t tell what’s going on in the videos? Please fix it... or just put the Night Owl X HD version back before this latest version. I wish so bad I wouldn’t have updated to this mess.

Not work on iOS 14. My system and the app worked beautifully until I updated to iOS 14. At first I could not see my cameras on my phone after the update. I check and it tells me to delete the app, reinstall, try again. Did that, still can’t connect. I try the HD version, still no good. It tells me to check the network but that is fine. I’m streaming TV and checking other, unrelated devices (thermostat, temp / humidity gauge) and they talk via the network to my phone. The timing to this problem is the new iOS update. Since the last app update shows 11 months ago, they must be related. I see my cameras on the connected monitor but not my phone.

The App is not great. I wish I would have researched and read reviews before purchasing this product. The app is terrible. Only works 75% of the time. The images will not come up with out going into one screen, wait a few seconds then back out. Only then do you see any images. Most of the time, only 3 out of 4 come up. What is the point, if you can see what the camera sees? I even emailed the helpdesk. As of yet (1 week) I have not gotten a response. Poor App, poor customer service. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Lack of development. What kind of genius thought it was a good idea to disable landscape view of cameras? Also there is no fast forward or reverse functionality in this app. Overall terrible experience compared to your older app. Please hire a real developer to fix this.

Worst App. I’ve tried every version of their apps, and they’re all terrible quality and bad overall interface. Would never buy from this company again.

So far so good...but. The app serves my need almost perfectly. But I keep getting the same notifications of the same area, same time and same video footage. I only need to see one notification from the same time, area and footage. I would give 5 Stars without hesitation. UPDATE: To Developer: I’ve visited the support website and still can’t resolve my issues. Thanks, I want to give you a better rating.

Room for Improvement. Previous Swann user that recently converted over to Night Owl. I couldn’t have imagined a moment where the Swann app could be better than any other camera systems but I guess I was wrong. When looking at multi camera live view, there is a few second delays in each of the feeds. To get a true live feed, you have to select the one camera view option. With more and more people relying on security cameras, a few seconds can make a difference. The Night Owl app is a little frustrating due to default settings never remain the same upon reopening the app. What’s needed: * Ability to set & save default SD/HD streaming options (not working). Upon closing and reopening the app, the app reverts back to SD. Why is there even a SD option? * Ability to set & save default view options )not working). Upon closing and reopening the app, the settings reverts back. * Ability to rearrange live feed cameras (prioritizing feeds) without setting favorites.

Better than my last system. Can’t seem to find a way to scrub through the continuous recording video? Any suggestions?

No stars should be possible for this. If your at this point stop and return your cameras. It worked good on my google phone. Switched to a new iPhone and the night owl apps are an abomination. Nothing ever works. The app runs and looks like it’s from 2006. Night owl you stink.

No push notifications. 2nd review. 1st never posted. Customer service is terrible. Can’t get help. Ouch notifications do not work

No landscape view. Was the lack of landscape view an oversight? Makes using iPad awkward. Since this is a new version, I’ll withhold comment on the other functionality. Please fix landscape view

Terrible app. It baffles me how terrible this app is for such a big company. The UI is cumbersome, the playback is impossibly difficult, and I have never been able to download any of my videos. How is it 2020 and you still have an app that seems to be a program in the 90’s? And it has been terrible for years and all Night Owl apps have 2 star ratings which should tell you something is wrong and needs to be fixed. I would never buy Night Owl again because it is so difficult to navigate the security playback both in the app and on the device itself. Sorry, but it’s true.

Don’t purchase. This app is horrible! The cameras themselves have good image but the app fails to run recorded motion on all cameras. Sometimes it does, most times it doesn’t. All I can really do is watch live view. What good is that?

Old apps and viewer much better. I’m very disappointed in the apps and the pc viewer.I bought one of these systems years ago and have been very pleased with the system, apps and pc viewer. playback has always worked great. So I was excited to get a better HD system or so I thought. The PC viewer is horrible and playback doesn’t work. The app on my Samsung S9 works horrible and playback doesn’t work. And the app on my new iPad crashes constantly and guess what? Once again playback doesn’t work! Not to mention that on the old apps and viewer for these systems you could fast forward the playback the new apps you cannot. I’m confused on why things have seemed to have gone backwards instead of getting better. Please work on fixing PC viewer and please update apps.

Updates. Are updates ever coming for some of these bugs???

Video range is terrible. Viewing my cameras on my iPhone while at the location they are installed comes up and is viewable, while I am at that location, however when I leave that location I am able to get alerts, but no video at ALL! This app is terrible, but it seems to be the only one that works for my system...but again, only while at the location of install. Very inconvenient and frustrating when I can’t see what is going as an alarm goes off!

Does the Job. I can see the videos are not delayed and everything seems to be functioning well. However, the UI is very unkind to those that have an Iphone XS or 11 model. The very small interface makes it hard to see all four at once and you instead have to resort to looking at cameras one by one. The black bars need to be removed or the gap should be smaller. Once that is done, I can rate the app five stars.

Bugs Need Fixed. The only reason I gave the app two stars is because it has a good idea and the picture is good. However, I can hardly play a playback video. The screen goes black when I try to watch it. Also, the screen glitches and freezes when I go to watch a live view of a camera. Makes it very hard to watch what is going on when I’m not home!

Slow response makes app useless. Purchased system at Costco. Downloaded app, but too slow and unreliable for a security system. Please optimize ASAP to prevent more customer dissatisfaction. JC

Bad system or bad application?. I admitted, I did not do research about products when I bought it. I left it up to Costco and it fail miserably! I bought the night owl 5mp, the installation is very much self explanatory, the software installation was a bit confused. Anyway, I bought this system because it is detected by body heat [thermal], I am not sure it really is recording by thermal?? The play back feature is not playback instantly, have to wait for several hours? also, WHEN I PLAYED BACK, IT WAS RECORDED IN 704x480, very poor quality images ( using my iPad Pro). I constantly switch or reset quality image feature to HD STREAMING or the system will switch back to SD streaming. I spend too much time to install cameras around my home and I am NOT HAPPY with the products???? I am gonna leave it until I find better surveillance security system then RETURN NIGHT OWL...

Email address suddenly isn’t registered to my account. My app was working fine all day and now suddenly it won’t let me log in. Worse yet it won’t let me reset my password because it says my email address isn’t registered to the app and I can’t get support without first logging in. I don’t think I’ve been hacked but if I was how can I go about getting support?

Playback quality. The play back quality is horrible. If you go back to try and view a certain time frame. Depending on the time the video saved. You have to wait hours just to get to the time frame needed. There needs to be a fast forward option. This is horrible. I also had the police department come once to ask if they can see the video from the camera I have point to our alley. They where investigating a shooting and the car fled by my house. Unfortunately this app was no help and it was embarrassing. This system is the Wish version of any camera system.

only live view works. I’ve had this system for 9 months now and they have never fixed this app. the iphone app version works pretty well but the ipad app can only do the live view and one only motion triggered video. After that the app hangs or disappears.

Night Owl XHD App. The trick is to keep the default settings as is if you want your system to work correctly. Set up was easy. The playback is a little slow, but overall we’re very pleased with our purchase of this system. We will see how it does away from home. The night and day view on the 3mp’s are awesome.

Crashing app. This product claims it can be used between devices, but when you connect a different device everything crashes on all devices. This is a bad app, too many problems!

Apple IMAC. I have no problems with the night X hd been using it for a while now on my iPad Air and my iPhone now I have a iMac how do I connect it to my iMac or does it work with iMac??? I have had no problems with this product by greatly recommend it

please fix the crashing. app shuts down when i use the live mode for over 5 minutes, shuts down immediately if I attempt to playback. truly no point in having this system. the minute number of times that the app does not crash why trying to view a playback, then i am stuck viewing a video at live speed which is ridiculous. tried downloading the video and it took so long I gave up.

Poor execution.... The hardware works okay, but Night Owl software is clunky and primative. That includes NightOwlX_CMS for PC and Night Owl XHD on my iPhone. Just a downright terrible interface that is littered with non-functional and counterintuitive bits. Comes up with nothing for playback, search function doesn't work on phone or PC, and my phone only shows live view for one of four cameras. I'm tossing the whole system in the trash and replacing with a better system due to terrible software.

Could be better. I purchased my Night Owl system at Costco a couple years ago. The camera quality and motion detection are great. Accessing video on the directly attached monitor is fairly straight forward, actually quite usable. However, the app could be better. * First off, it’s not at all iPad friendly. It only works in portrait mode on an iPad. * Second, video playback only lets you see a limited number of saved videos per day. It will even tell you 27/85 videos, and provides no way to see more than 27 of the 85 videos for that day. You have to physically go to the device (not using this app) to see the other videos. This huge omission alone makes this app frustrating. It always excludes video from early morning (midnight-9am), when perps are most likely to be active. Why not allow me to see all videos for the day?

Stressed and more stress. No notification from the app even updated and same problem

Poor customer support and poor product. If you’ve bought this product, take it back and get a refund. They’re terrible.

No fast forward in continuous mode. When reviewing video on the app for a continuous recording there is no way to fast forward or quickly scan through the video. This makes remote viewing of video feeds unusable in the app. Is there a plan to add such a feature soon?

Poorly designed and not QA-tested. Only way to obtain a password reset is by contacting technical support. The “chat” feature within the app is dysfunctional. Chat is disallowed without selecting a department (“Technical Support”) but the app disallows selecting any department. This is true on both iPhone and iPad.

Update broke functionality. Can’t see my camera now and will no longer go into landscape mode. This is my 3rd and will be final issue with this brand. Unfortunate.

Half the features don’t work.. -It won’t let you filter times on recording playbacks. -only shows me 40 motion recordings. -creating a favorite won’t let you type in a name.

No Landscape in IPad. This recent update applied today, took away the landscape layout of the app, so now the only way to view it is in portrait mode, which being I use a keyboard and typically am in the landscape mode it makes if difficult to have to view you cameras sideways. Please fix this problem. It worked in the last version but not this one.

Please fix it. Every time I want to watch my dog in my backyard it’s so hard because it’s pauses and what not and it’s gets really annoying and playback it’s horrible please consider the repairing a lot of people want it fixed

IPad Pro. The latest iPad update doesn’t allow for landscape view. Only able to use in portrait mode. Please repair.

FIX YOUR APP. I have had 2 of your systems for over 2 years. I thought you would have your app fixed by now. I haven’t seen an update in a LONG TIME.

Low quality app. The playback of recorded video is very low quality. Poor ui on ipad pro. Feel like 360p playback quality. Camera have no audio. The night colour l2 doesnt work. All the video playback in black and white even in day time video. No fast forward or rewind on video. Forced to watch video from beginning to end.

Return to store!. Dont bother, this will not hook up to ur phone, customer service does not reply and when using online chat they just disconnect ya! Go and get “Blink”easy set up in about 30 mins u can have everything done and ready to go including the phone way better picture and cameras are voice capable

Great cameras but useless as things stand.. Cameras work great for their parameters in 16 degree weather; love the clarity. It will remain to be seen how the PIR behaves when it is 85 outside. The apps I need to use, namely the X & the X HD, stink. That makes the system useless. The X on my android smartphone will bring up the app through notifications, display, then wants me to create a new device while not displaying a live view. When you open the app it will show 1, 2, 3 or more of the same device which created themselves from opening through notifications. In addition, when you open the app to playback recordings the area under the calendar to make selections is so narrow from the bottom options display that you cannot always bring up recordings. Or the date will not come up. Or it keeps “getting”. Once in a while it will work. As long as I am home...leaving & receiving notifications crashes the app when I retrieve the notifications while away & hit to view. What good is that?!?!? The X HD is on my iPad. The only plus is great video clarity. The issue is that top playback icon is useless. It will bring up the playback page; when you sequence to retrieve it will display October 20. This was given to me on Christmas & installed the next day! Sometimes the playback will work if I view only 1 of the 4 cameras, then hit playback from the bottom. Key word here is sometimes. Same issue with directly tapping the notifications. Do NOT even think to answer this review with “contact customer service”. I was trying to for the past 3 days. December 26th: on phone for 1 hour, finally left callback number. No callback. The same thing, after 45 minutes, on December 27. No callback. Tried calling again December 28. Hung up after 2 1/2 hours since they obviously do not return phone calls. Today, December 29th, was on hold for 1 hour 11 minutes & finally got a representative; he either hung up or we were disconnected after 3 minutes. Phoned back, on hold for another 1 hour 6 minutes, only to be disconnected right after the recording that says “this phone call may be monitored...”. It is a terrible shame because I like the product itself. The apps & lack of customer service is what will sink this company. The apps are one issue but there is no excuse on the customer service end. We personally know people at PC Richard, including the originators. The phone call is out to them because this kind of stuff looks bad for the retailer; not their fault!

I can’t view mycams not good at all. Can’t view my cams on my iPhone is all screwed up not good at all

Too many bugs, very frustrating. App freezes up and shuts down way too often for practical use! Furthermore, the app is very slow and the camera pictures won't always load which requires the dvr and app to be restarted every few minutes.

Needs an update ASAP. Make it compatible with android 13

Not good for playback. I have 24 night owl camera systems that I monitor. The night owl apps are absolutely HORRIBLE with play back or trying to download any video whatsoever. It allows me to see that there is video available to watch but trying to watch them or download them is absolutely not going to happen. The reason the company I work for bought this camera system is for the video,audio, and app that was supposed to allow you to download the videos and do playback with out having to go to the location to do so. Sometimes, it looks like it’s going to download and then kicks you out of the app completely so then you have to go back into the app and wait for what seems like forever for it reload the videos. And if it is a video from earlier that morning good luck trying to find it you have to go to the top of the screen to reload and it only reloads about 10 at a time (if you have over 1,000 videos this is a pain) and most of the time you get disconnected from the system so you have to wait about 5-10 mins before it will reconnect to try to redownload the clips…. You should be able to find it on the desktop application but it will not allow you to watch it or download it either. At this point the app is just trash, unless, the only reason you want it is to watch it live… I ,also, have the desktop version as well and it does the exact same thing only difference is you can’t watch the live video from the desktop. The protect app isn’t much better. I’m not sure who was in charged of developing these but it’s not even worth the download. Just watch your videos with a monitor when you can. If you are a corporation don’t even bother with this system I’m sure there is much better options out there. I don’t normally leave bad reviews but would hate for someone to get as frustrated as I am currently with this set up!! And Yes I have called the night owl help center and stayed on the phone with them for hours trying to figure this out a few years ago when it was just one system and they could not figure it out as well. We also upgraded our internet thinking maybe that was the problem… that didn’t help either. Now that most of them don’t download or do playback we have figured out it’s nothing that we are doing wrong but most definitely a night owl problem.

Bad update. Lost HD after the update. The previous version worked good. I lost HD on my iPhone 11 and on my iPad. Need to roll back the update.

No Landscape Mode. UPDATE: DROPPED TO 1 STAR AFTER POOR SUPPORT Developer Response - “Our Night Owl applications are enhanced to work with the latest IOS version or Android Version, in most cases, customers with outdated mobile hardware will come to find the application does not work properly in their devices.” The device is a 2020 11” iPad Pro w/ Magic Keyboard (as originally stated) ORIGINAL REVIEW: There’s a lot wrong with the app. This speaks only to this app, not the system’s features, hardware, or direct connect capabilities. How does an iPad app not have landscape mode? The entire UI is portrait, which is hugely inconvenient. It’s 2020, iPads are much more than a glorified e-reader now. I haven’t used an iPad primarily in portrait for at least five years. The general user interface lacks continuity with both typical human interaction behaviors as well as iPadOS norms. It can be useable, although clunky and occasionally prone to crashing. Fixing landscape mode would at least make this an average application. [2020 11” iPad Pro w/ Magic Keyboard]

Please fix issues. Update failed, after the update not able to view playback ,cashes

Very sad and very, very archaic. Nightowl was decent 7 years ago for me. Was good tech support setting up the unit and opening those Apple Airport ports. Around 2015, surveillance technology started to advance and I had faith NightOwl would keep up, NOT! My DVR went down after like 2-3 years and purchase another one. Well couple more years, it went down as well. Now it’s 2020, purchased an HD DVR. This device is terrible. I’ve had to restart it in less than 2 weeks because the mobile device wouldn’t view the cameras. The restart fix it, but this is too soon for restarts! The DVR doesn’t recognize a keyboard and your left with using only a mouse, not good! I stop right there when it came to exploring the DVR. The app UI is over 5 years old. The app is bad all around, so I stop there as well. I’m returning the DVR and selling these cameras, I’m totally done with NightOwl. I need HomeKit support and updated everything. It Does Work, But Only If You Do This…. The app does work, but only if you grant it access to the “local network.” That setting can be found in the NightOwl app’s settings, which is in your iPad/iPhone’s settings menu (the icon that looks like gears). Be patient, make sure that everything is set correctly and connected at your NightOwl DVR, and you will be able to get this app to work.

My 2 Cents. Starting a live viewing stream is unreliable; sometimes the streams starts and progresses consistently, but MOST times it does not. I have discovered that by starting the stream, then canceling it as soon as the image appears, and then starting the stream a second time will produce a consistent live stream almost every time. This has been tested and confirmed on iPad Air, iPhone 5, 6 & 7, on three separate client networks and on two separate server networks. I was ready to return the product until discovering this workaround and hope to see a permanent fix in a future app update. The recorded video playback function has a delay of several hours in regards to the recordings available for viewing. In other words, if a motion event was recorded, you won't be able to see it on this app until several hours after it occurred, even though the recording is available for viewing through the NVR console. Tech support confirmed this issue. /**** 7/29/2017 - Update: discovered a workaround for the aforementioned issue... advance the time/clock on your mobile device by at least 2 hours (ahead of actual time) and the App's search function will include motion events that occurred in the last hour. Hoping a future update to this app will correct this. ****/ These two issues really cripple the core functionality of the system; I mean it's almost a worthless system for live remote viewing or remote viewing of recorded events whether using the mobile or PC app. It's been a few days since purchasing the complete wireless NVR system and I've discovered several other malfunctions in the NVR hardware and the CMS remote viewing app for PCs, in addition to poor wifi range for the Camera-NVR network - after thorough analysis. The problems though persist even with the cameras within 20' clear line-of-sight, so the problems cannot be attributed to the Wifi performance. I am VERY hopeful for an app update that improves reliability of live streaming, and I also have high gain antennas on order for the cameras that are only 25' from the NVR but exhibit poor-to-average performance. If you haven't bought the system yet, yield with caution before making that purchase. I will update this review if these issues are resolved, but the initial vibe I'm getting is that they won't be.

Not connecting over WiFi again!. COME ON MAN!!! FIX THIS APP ALREADY!!! THIS APP IS SUPER HORRIBLE! CAN’T EVEN VIEW MY CAMERAS ON THE PHONE!!!

Terrible app. Zero starts. This app is terrible. Playback is nonexistent. I do not recommend this app. The jury is still out regarding the camera system overall.

Serious problems. (Update) Now on day 3 randomly all the tablets and phones running the app where locked out with an error stating login error no internet connection, mind you this is the app not the DVR system. Of course our internet is fine I even rebooted the router. Nothing but problems. The XD app designed for the tablet crashes then when you reopen the app it doesn’t reconnect to the system. Many times it will try to connect infinitely other times it will falsely claim that there’s an incorrect DVR password. You have to forget the system just to rediscover and log back into the DVR. Its crazy! Both this app and the iPhone app are lack luster with very few features. It’s unclear if a channel is currently recording or not because a basic indicator is missing, and it’s pointless to log in as an admin unless the only changes you need to make are to the channel tags(yippee) You can’t adjust motion sensitivity or other settings. Searching for recordings could be made far more effective, and play back on the systems DVR is extraordinarily complex (good luck finding the footage of your amazon package) it’s as if the interface was written on a Commodore 64! Finding playback should be the easiest feature of the DVR. The camera quality is fine but without a good app or at least a consistently functioning tablet app, I would recommend that people evaluate other options as they wait on the evolution of night owl coding for both the DVR and their Apps!!!!! Most people are going to use this on tablets for quick viewing, good luck with that.....crash.

Newest update very slow to load. This latest update takes forever to load. Not sure what is different on this app than on the iPhone, but my iPhone loads all cameras fairly quickly, but i sometimes get nothing or sometimes get 3 of my 4 cameras. I then have to keep closing the app & opening it back up on my iPad - very aggravating.

Can’t connect.. Will not let me view cameras when away from home and not on my home WiFi.

Night Owl X. I originally had the F9 series DVR for the longest time, until I found out there’s no more security updates for the DVR itself. I’m glad the new DVR I got is compatible with the current setup I had; onto the Night Owl X & Night Owl X HD app for iPad its easy to use coming from the Night Owl HD app to this was a change. It would be helpful for this app to have a rewind and fast forward feature like the Night Owl HD app, the same thing for the Night Owl X CMS for Mac OS X. The Mac version needs a major update for it seems like its still running version 1.0.1.

App stopped working. Cameras not populating after last IOS Apple update. Can this be fixed?

Bad app. This is a really bad app it wont work. I dont recommend anyone to get this app it never connetects. The cameras work fine its just that this app wont ever connect or sign in.

Latest update is TERRIBLE. UPDATE 10/31/19: I got an email from the developer that the issue has been resolved. NOT TRUE! If you look at the date of the most recent update to the app, you will see it is 4 weeks ago. EXACTLY when everyone started having problems. Night Owl needs to get their R&D team on this! The latest update changed my view to portrait so I’m not getting full screen views. It also opens to one camera view even though I have it set to 4. I’ve contacted customer service numerous times & they either don’t bother responding or they give an answer that is in no way related to what I said. They told another reviewer that they’ve solved the issues with the latest version but that’s not true. Really regretting the purchase of this 2nd Night Owl system. What’s the point if I can’t view them?

Seems like last update was years ago.. This App is awful. I use an iPhone, and nothing is formatted correctly. Everything is cut off on the bottom, which means I cannot use the shuttle controls at all for playback, making it completely impossible to use for anything but live playback. On live playback, it consistently opens to the first camera only, rather than the 9-grid (or whatever you choose). Secondly, after you open the live view- you watch a still frame for 10 seconds, before it actually shows live video, as made evident by the time code. I used to have another receiver, which used the NON-X app.... that one was bad- but this app is 10-times worse. What’s the point of half-assing an app? Are you all particularly proud of your 1.8-star rating?

Bad Software, Bad Camera. I bought this about a year ago and was somewhat satisfied at first. I was able to playback and watch recordings no problem through my phone or computer. then one camera failed to connect. come to find its a power issue and there are no visible damages to the wire. its just a loose connecting within the dc female power cord. whatever. Now with this most recent software update, my 3 remaining cameras disconnected. in order to view recordings i have to go to my DVR, unplug it, replug it, forget the dvr on my phone then reinstall it. what a nuisance. going to switch to Ring camera.

Poor. The first few days the app worked fine. I have the 8 channel system and all 8 cameras were viewable. Now only one camera is viewable and the others are dark. Log out and back in does not make a difference. Using the app at the same location makes no difference, very disappointing.

Crashes continuously. The app crashes continuously. Unable to view many recorded videos. Will not work with iOS13 or iPadOS.

Products are made and abandoned with no support.. My security system is only 2 years old and abandoned by Night Owl. The app on my iPad hasn’t had an update in over a year. The support page no longer exists after clicking the link, which means poor customer support. App is very buggy and loses connection frequently (multiple times daily). Not a reliable security or monitoring device if away on vacation and system crashes and needs reset. I typically have to go into DVR and perform reset to get it operational again.

Ugh!!. Why is your software so horrible?! The cameras are good quality but the programs that were designed for us to view them with SUUUCK!! They are horrible across all my devices from my iPhone to my android to my Laptop! Constantly crashing and is extremely undependable!! Isn’t that the entire point of spending your money and investing in a security system? Tu depend on it to its job accordingly at all times? Well, that’s not the case with Night Owl Security Systems, unfortunately.

Mad at app. So the main dvr box had a update, since then the app for my iPad has completely shut me up. Keeps telling me my username and/or password in incorrect when I know for a fact it’s not, I finally got the app on lgg5 to start working right... but not the iPad

Garbage App. I tried to connect my Mom’s DVR though the setup wizard but it would not connect to the device. I tried the UID, QR Code, manual and nothing worked. Using it with a THD series and it has worked before when the free DDNS service was still live. I tired to connect from my house via the app and it never asks for an IP address, DDNS address, or anything that tells the app the networking info to the DVR. Stop making apps that take away manual configuration settings to make it “easier” to use. I am a networking professional and I am baffled by this sad app. No wonder it has a 1.6 star rating. TRASH YOUR APP AND START OVER!!!

Unresponsive. The app is very unresponsive and buggy. Many times it freezes and crashes. Please fix this app!!

Screen goes Black. When try to use play back to view recorded views the screen goes black then closes out.

Bad app. I just upgraded my DVR and this is the app for it and it has many faults that the old app did not have. This app is not user friendly. 1. You can not have multiple screen mode in landscape view. 2. You have to turn tablet or phone to landscape view then tap the camera you want to view to see it in landscape. 3. The worst flaw is you cannot swipe screen to view the next camera this is terrible what’s up with that deletion? 4. The camera on live view sometime drop off and take a little while to reappear this is with more than 8kb of upload speed on server. 5. When changing a camera streaming to HD there is no indication of which one the camera is already on. There are more annoying problems but I’m sure no one is listening. The night Owl system and customer support is top notch and free but the app designers need to spend more time to make these apps more friendly. Not everyone leaves the view on multi view. I know it can be done because the old app l used did all these things perfectly. I thought when l added this app it would be an improvement but it went back Hugh steps.

Can’t view anything. Ever since the new update, I have been UNABLE to view anything. Can’t see the live view or playback videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
