Please Fix. The game is great so far, and quite beautiful. The only things I have problems with are the controls are off and broken along with the barriers that don't allow me to continue playing through the game. I would hope to actually beat the game some day, so if you could fix the bugs, the game would easily be one of my favorites.

Lovely game, poorly realized.. I wasn't familiar with The Deer God on other platforms, but I thought the premise was so intriguing that I gave it a shot. The visuals are very pretty, and the low-res aethetic is reminiscent of the Superbrothers game, which I enjoyed. I can't say that this has been a pleasant experience for me, however. In fact, I'm not sure where all these glowing reviews for it are coming from. I suppose it is different nowadays to experience a game that doesn't hold your hand through every challenge, but it's the gameplay that's supposed to be challenging, not the controls. It took me two deaths to stumble across the jump button, and all the while, struggling to discover what my character's purpose is. But despite its lofty opening cinematic of your player, a hunter, forced to live as a deer, don't look to this game for anything deeper than a standard platformer, and a platformer with awful controls and deeply frustrating gameplay. Like blind jumps? Well, you'll be doing a lot of that. And landing on spikes half the time, while a musical stinger plays, undercut with the grating noise of a ten-dollar alarm clock, just to hammer the point home. Enemies appear randomly, sometimes chipping away at your health while you're talking to characters. You'll die frequently, and when you do, get used to sitting through an interminably long fade to white, after which you may or may not come face-to-face with the titular Deer God, who will arbitrarily demote you to a smaller, even more defenseless mammal than a newborn fawn, OR ominously warn you that you have one life left, which would mean something, if the game didn't let you die dozens of times after that. I got stuck in the map once, starved to death while frozen outside a cabin, then respawned, still stuck, and by that point, I was used to such frustration from this game that I wasn't surprised and didn't care. This is a beta. I was duped into buying a game that was barely tested. It gets two stars instead of one because it's at least trying something different. I would have loved to play the game that is struggling to talk to me through the stammering and static of its own crappy control interface and contentious level design. I only hope that there will be updates coming soon, because trying to play it as is makes me want to skip my phone across a lake like a rock.

Update now or pay us as beta testers.... This game at it's core displays beauty, creativity, and a compelling gaming experience. However, it was released much too early with too many bugs at too high a price. The bugs: I've played up to 20% and about 20 days into the game three times now. Each time, it reaches a point where the screen goes white, and then only the background landscape and controls are available. It becomes a side-scrolling landscape adventure of nothingness. The song plays on, the sun and moon continue their dance, but the foreground-including even the boy-turned-deer character my attention wants to inhabit has disappeared. Is it a game about nihilism? The higher levels above 20% don't even exist? To remind people that their dreams are just as fleeting as their hours spent trying to become a deer God? Whatever the case, another bug is the momentum of the NPC animals, like the baby deer, makes it a pretty sad game when you watch your doe lovers and their babies die a red death on the spikes--simply because they couldn't slow down quickly enough. When you're trying to do running and timed jumps or attacks, the sudden complete stops to have a snack of berries often results in more death on the spikes. I do love the game. I just wanted to believe there was a 100% in there somewhere. Onward, and thanks in advance for the coming update!

Buyer's remorse. I've had this in my wish list for awhile, because it looked great in the screenshots but has a way above average price. Finally decided to give it a shot. Boy is this game dull. Lacks any real depth, super repetitive, very little to do, pointless boring combat...I wish I could get a refund. Save your money.

Very buggy & disappointing design/ bad story. ***the attack swipe action does not work!!!!***(playing , or attempting to on iPad) . Please fix this. so far I'm very unimpressed with the game design and storytelling too.

GREAT GAME ONE THING. When you respawn the same size you were when you died DON'T RESPAWN in the lava or spikes you died in made me so angry please fix 😡

Excelent Adventure Of Large Proportions. I managed to beat it in about a day, but it was quite the adventure. Never figured out how to beat the frog boss though. I'm glad it wasn't necessary to beat him.

May need to give refunds. I enjoyed the story but problem is that I don't understand what's with turning into something else when you die, controls are awful, and it eats battery power faster then the hotdog eating champion of the world. I'm sorry but I would really like a refund please.

Don't get it. Bought this game by mistake, and can't get a refund. I feel like with the amount of money I spend in the App Store every month I should be entitled to a refund when I accidentally buy a game. I gave this a try and I don't get it at all. It has a cool look but it's pretty boring. There just isn't enough meat to sink your teeth into.There are also a ton of bugs and glitches I encountered just in the short time I played it. Seemed more like a beta version then a game worthy of the seven bucks I spent on it by accident. Honestly this game is maybe worthy of 99 cents.

Game breaking glitch, lovely game though.. I wish I could provide more info, I'm not sure what caused it. SPOILERS after I found the priest a congregation my game started failing to load after I'd stop playing. I'm at 38 percent, I'll probably just start a new character, if it happens again I'll be sad. It's a really neat game, I love the simulation aspect, day and night cycles, clever combat and decent controls It's a bit unclear what you're supposed to be doing at times, I think that's probably intentional and I don't really mind it, but I can see how some people would be turned off by it. It's also quite difficult, I like that, but it can be frustrating sometimes when you're a fully aged deer and you have to restart. You keep your spells and items however.

The Deer God. The Deer God, when I first saw this in the App Store, I was interested by the wording of the title, so I checked it out and bought it. This game is like no other.p, nothing can compare itself to this. I love the graphics, RPGs style elements, and the lore behind deer. What I don't love, however, is the frame rate drops that are caused by the loading of terrain off-screen and the somewhat frequent crashing. Also the controls are somewhat cryptic. I get the basic controls, attack, run, double jump and all that. One of the items, I forgot the name (it allows you to scare off enemies), allows you to move blocks. I tried my best to learn how to use it properly, but it took me so long that I died before I can get used to it. Please fix these problems. If these were fixed, then there would be no problems with this game.

Nice idea, but terribly glitchy. It's beautiful and atmospheric, but the play-testing is embarrassingly inadequate. I'd love to give this game more stars, but in the first fifteen minutes of playing it, I've got stuck twice and been forced to restart. Given the price, this isn't acceptable. This is really a shoddy effort.

Love the game, dont like the controls. Having to swipe in the middle of the screen is kind of a pain. Plz fix as its the only flaw in this beautiful game.

Great idea, some rough edges. I love the graphics in this game. I love being a deer. I hate the spikes and being killed by things offscreen I have to guess at because I can't scroll around and see what's there.The controls, especially the swipe thing, didn't work well - using the button feature worked better. Still, attacking an enemy can hurt friendlies at the same time. When I put items in slots other than 1 I didn't see them onscreen. If you die and regenerate as a baby, it's very easy to become permanently stuck in a place with no food and no choice but to start a new game because you can't jump high enough to overcome whoever obstacle. I doubt very much I will ever get to the point where "fire" shoots out of my deer's antlers, as the review says, because I'll never be that good at it. I'd prefer a less violent and more exploratory game. If you're thinking that this is an rpg where you get to be a deer, don't get this game. If you are into platformers and endless runners, this might be more your speed.

Awesome. The graphics are gorgeous and I love the plot. I only wish you could choose which animal you play as aside from a deer. Otherwise definitely worth the money

High price to be a beta tester for an iOS game. If development continues this can be an excellent game. The pixelated yet very detailed graphics remind you of Sworcery, the musical score is up there with some of the greats (that's just my opinion) the controls however.... Eeek. The controls make me want to kill myself. I already paid and there's no refund so I've filed this one under download again in 6 months.

The controls. Although I like the gameplay, the controls, when you need them precise, sometimes stop responding. Like, you can drag left or right and your deer will just stand still and take extra hits from enemies, or I had one instance were he ran after a bush to eat by himself, without me actually making him get near the bush, and got killed by a snake. Or the swipe combat, being the only combat that works since the button is unresponsive, sometimes stops responding during combat. I want to like this game, but the controls being unresponsive make it it really hard to.

Bugs. The games great and all but I got reincarnated and I walked off a cliff and fell to the void and got stuck like the background glitch.Please fix.

The controls are absurd. This game is gorgeous, simple, and unique. I love the idea, and I'm trying really hard to love the game itself but it's really difficult to. The controls are super wonky - jumping is fine, moving around is decent, but I have no idea how to properly attack. Thus, I keep getting killed very early on in the game. I can't make it past the ghosts/ghouls or the alligators simply because I can't fight properly. Please fix the problem because otherwise I've wasted like $6 on an app that is useless.

Interesting game with bugs. The game is an interesting blend of genres. It reminds me of playing Echo the Dolphin on the Sega Genesis. There is a bug when playing with MFI controllers. When I die as a deer and re-spawn as porcupine, the controller stops responding. Please fix this bug as it makes the game unplayable when this occurs.

Needs some tweaking. Really like the look and idea, but the controls are spastic and hard to manage. Results in a lot of unintentional deaths and is frustrating. Will keep playing and look forward to an update.

Great game that needs an update. This is a good game that could be made better if it didn't contain so many bugs. I've been experiencing freezing when I play and I receive a phone call or I switch apps. It's frustrating to pay for a game, enjoy it, get half way through it and then to never be able to finish it.

Deer God, more like Deer God this game rules.. Very fun, gorgeous graphical style, and a game worth plugging in a headset for. Worth the purchase!

Great but.... OK OK the game is amazing I'll give you 4 for that I'm not going to give 5 until someone fixes the glitch when you turn your phone off in game (sometimes) it will delete the landscape and leave you falling forever and it makes me have to restart the storyline I understand this is the first version, but please in 1.1 fix this bug

A title review. This game is boring! It's expensive but it doesn't mean it's great. There are a lot of apps that are cheaper and better than this piece of cr@p. It would be great if this costs $1.99 or fewer. Unfortunately, i bought this for $6.99. The combat is also terrible. The description says "They made it better". Don't listen to that bullcr@p. I hope this comment is useful for you.

Not Worth the High Price. Lovely visuals, but the game is ill suited for touch screen controls. I also encountered several progress halting bugs, most of which involved becoming stuck in level geometry.

Awesome game but has a slight bug. so (spoilers) when you play as the fox if you die you can still move and because you can move you can ( if it’s spikes) slide and fall out of the map

Please. I like this game, I just wish you wouldn't lose all your powers when you die. Oh, and I wish you wouldn't go back to neutral as well. Other than that this is a nice game :)

Good concept, terrible controls. I'm still not entirely sure I understand what this game is. On the surface it's an endless runner, but there seems to be some sort of progression system involved. You start each game as a fawn. Eating berries will slowly fill up a meter, and when the meter is full you grow into an adolescent deer. Eventually I'm sure you turn into an adult deer, but I can never make it that far because of the terribly executed controls. You encounter a large number of enemies along the way, which you can either run from or try and fight. Fighting is ultimately hopeless because the method of attacking (swiping out left or right from the middle of the screen) is almost impossible to execute. Most times an attack attempt results in the movement joystick jumping into the middle of the screen, resulting in my deer just aimlessly running around the enemy, quickly dying. There are situations where you are almost forced to dispatch an enemy, and most of these situations end in a quick death because the game makes it impossible to attack. Please fix these ridiculous controls by adding an attack button next to the jump button, and I'll revisit this review. I really want to like this game, but it's nothing more than an exercise in frustration in its current state.

Controls. I can see why people would complain about the controls it is a little difficult. But the game is enjoyable I like it. I had to check out why the majority of the people were complaining. If you go into settings you can switch the attack button (which was a big help I enjoy the game a lot more after that.) it should complement your character controls a lot better All in all the concept of the game is nicely done I give the game a five out of five. The controls aren't the best but it's okay. That's why my overall view is a four for this game I hope you all fix it to work better the iPhone. This game has potential.

LOVE IT! But some bugs. This game is phenomenal! Worth the money. I love the music, it really sets the mood, and the visuals are fantastic! The powers are cool and it's fun to play as different animals. But some of the puzzles and quests are bugged, like the diver and lightning puzzle. PLEASE UPDATE AND FIX THESE BUGS!

Help. I LOVE this game but there are two problems the first one is when you get the tree bark to give to Matilda the dark witch the tree bark does not go into your inventory but it goes away and the second problem that I literally just found is that I went back to my game and there was only this small piece of lAnd and the bushes and berries and stuff were floating off the ground all equal height but the weird thing is you run to the cliff at the edge of the land and you jump as far and as high as you can and then you fall down like you're about to hit spikes and the poof you are teleported back to the middle where you started you don't lose any lives or anything and you don't do the get up from laying down thing either you just sort of drop there like you were landing after a jump I'd like to see this get fixed because I saved my allowance for this game and it is on my list of all time favorite games and I really like it.

Love the idea, but buggy. I think the idea is awesome. The first time I played there was a point my game got stuck and remained stuck after restarting. I started over, but I found the controls frustrating and after dying over and over for an hour, I gave up. Wish you weren't punished so much for dying, especially since controls can make it hard to beat certain obstacles.

Awesome except for one thing.. The game is awesome, but I have encountered a glitch that you jump really far and then there is just the outline of it, I was still alive but nothing was there. I could not see anything. It really challenges you to the top of your skills.

Loved on Xbox One. Wow. Can't believe this is on iPhones right when it's Xbox gold of the month. Good atmospheric game. Different from about anything I've ever played. If you don't have an xbone you gotta get it on your phones.

Difficult but fun. I bought this game thinking it wouldn't be that hard, and it was just an endless runner about messing around.But let me tell you, it is nothing like that.The game is hard enough to enjoy and has a decent storyline.It's a little finicky to do some jumps and sometimes you jump into spikes because you can't see down.Even so, I really like this game.Art and music are nice.As frustrating as this game is, I'm always feeling at ease whenever I'm playing it.

Not so great. The game is good when it comes to game play and graphics but I have respawn issues. I was an all grown up deer fighting a giant snake boss but when it killed mevI would respawn in the dungeon as a baby and couldn’t get out...

Multiplayer. I have been playing The Deer God for a year and I still love it. However, I was wondering if the dev could somehow create a multiplayer server like in the PC version? Having the two options of choosing to play Single Player or a random player in Multiplayer would add more to the game since playing solo does get a tad boring after a while. Perhaps you could invite friends by social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)? I hope you do read my review, thank you.

Garbage. The attack controls are unresponsive and will get you killed within 5 minutes. The mixture of 3D animation and classic pixels is grating and gimmicky. An ideal version of this game would have automatic attacks that can be upgraded rather than controlled (with the jump/move controls where they are now) and no plot or dialogue, as well as automatic "eating" when energy is low. Don't waste your money!

Please read. As far as I can tell this game just released not too long ago (forgive me if I'm wrong). This game has one issue that can ruin the game single handedly sometimes when you start the game all you can see is the background. Nothing but that. No trees or animals. As far as I can tell this "glitch" is still in the game and I THINK the only way to fix it is to restart the game. So just remember that. I can't really play too long before this happens. This game has its glitches and issues but I can't wait to see what it will be like in the future 😃

Not that great.... Wasn't expecting much, and for an indie game I guess it's good. But it's really not anything new. I'm sure there's a lot of effort put into it, but it doesn't show. The story is good, but the colours and scenes are so dull. Gameplay is repetitive too, I realise it's an endless runner.

Fix this bug. I am very disappointed because I paid $9 for this game and there's a bug. Whenever I go on the game it just shows the background and nothing else. I can move but I doesnt show the deer. Please fix this bug otherwise I'll delete this game and never buy of your company ever again.

Something Different. Now, this isn't a groundbreaking game. Not by any sort. However, it is a very different and amazing thing in itself. The game revolves around a man whose been turned into a deer. This happens because.... I don't know. However, the plot isn't really important. The game kind of mashes the RPG and endless runner genre together. Now, this has been done before but not in the way this game does it. See, at its core its and RPG. You got Stamina, Hunger, XP and Health. But the real catch is that it's kind of also works like a platform ear. You make your deer run to right like any other 2D plat former in an open world. There are no side quests, no urgent objectives. It's all at your own pace. Throughout the world are bosses. These foes require magic and other things to be defeated. These appear in dungeons that are al throughout your journey, but you can go back through the world to beat them once your good enough. This really isn't what you'd call a hardcore game. Sure, you need fast reaction times and each time you die you lose your antlers and have to start again. It's sometimes frustrating will have you putting it down sometimes but it's all very calm and relaxing in a sense. This is very artistic because well..... Just look at it, it's amazing. This game is satisfying when you get a good rhythm going. Probably even more satisfying watching your deer level up and grow his antlers, which makes death all that more painful. It doesn't go into unfair territory though. I did occur one bug which made your deer stop moving after defeating an enemy or jumping sometimes, but it rarely got in the way of gameplay. In conclusion. This game isn't what you'd call "amazingly fun" or maybe not even worth the price, but it's worth your time.

Unfair. Could they update it so everybody who had worlds in normal mode deleted could get them back. I had one deleted and I even been to ursulas house and killed the skunks!

Stuck. After a few hours playing the character and background disappear and the is no way to get them back after rebooting the game several times. Great I just can't play anymore . Such major bugs at a release is a shame.

Too buggy to really enjoy. First, let me say that this is a great, complex and entertaining game. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is nice, it's also quite challenging and there's a ton of secrets to discover. However, version 1.0 is simply unplayable. As other reviewers mentioned, there's quite a lot of MAJOR bugs that makes it impossible to play the game and will ruin your save: respawning in impossible to get off from places, respawning as an enemy and being unable to move or jump (I respawned several times as a porcupine), respawning and there's nothing but the sky (no graphic or anything, just the sky background)... It's excessively annoying to have to start everything all over again all the time because the game is full of bugs... Honestly, I feel like this game has not been beta tested at all. ANY beta would have detected those bugs instantly, seeing has I got them all within an hour of regular gameplay on one of Apple's lastest device (iPhone 6 plus) If you want to buy this game, my advice is to wait for another version. This buggy version will only bring you frustation.

Falls so short of Superbrothers, S&S LP. The controls are very buggy, even when understood: I have swiped in a very controlled manner many times in a row - sometimes I dash, sometimes I jump, sometimes I stay still. I have no idea what most of the game features do. Reincarnating as a porcupine is a flat waste of time. How does a porcupine kill a deer (or why), anyways. I am very disappointed, after my 8bit expectations were set by Swords and Sworcery. Please fix this game and make it playable.

Eh. Really wanted to like. Did not like. Choppy play on iPad mini 2 retina. Felt pointless after a few hours play.

Good but full of bugs. The game is gorgeous and a lot of fun... except the bugs and quirks. The save mechanism and respawn is still a mystery... I was stuck underneath an alligator and couldn't move, so I went to the menu and when I returned all of the alligators were herons. Another time I respawned as a porcupine and was stuck in the water. There's just too many places where you can get stuck without understanding why.

Hoping for a update. The game looks great but runs poorly on the iOS so far. The game hasn't been on the App Store for that long, so I'm hoping a update will come out that'll let me get past the intro...

Frustrating lack of control or consistency. Never know how or when I'll respawn, or what anything means, or how to save. The scenery is boring and repetitive.

Great idea... Buggy.. There are a bunch of in game bugs. Places you can spawn and not advance from. A bug that when you load all you see is sky and literally ruins a save. An area where you knock a tree down and after passing it, it erects itself and won't let you go back (which is necessary to do). Lots of little bugs that currently ruin the enjoyment for me. When fixed the game could be really fun and different from other games.

Not worth the money. The graphics and idea of the deer God are great. The controls and gameplay are bad and frustrating. Even for the current discount price it's not worth it. It's a $1.99 game at best.
