Great addictive game. This game is for the thoughtful, thorough person and is not for fast action shooter-type. But also it can be played at the Causal-level where if you die you get returned at where you were, before you got stupid, and with all your supplies. Having died many times I really appreciated this feature. And Hint, hint - try the other jet packs if you get that far...... The reasons I didn’t give 5 star are 1. How to save your game is not readily apparent. 2. The fact that there are several possible endings is not obvious either. 3. And finally, there is no provision for changing the gender of the protagonist. But this one game I will keep on my iPad and maybe try my luck at a higher levels. I can say if you make the right choices the ending is great!!!!!!!

Phenomenal. One of the first Games I ever played on the App Store, and I absolutely adore it!!!

It was like potato chips. I just wanted to keep playing!. Disclaimers: I'm not looking for a lot of difficulty, or tight timing, or sequences that test my agility, when I'm playing a game. I find it especially frustrating when a game has some story, or some momentum, but I have to keep replaying a sequence. So, when I started this game, I immediately put it into "Casual" mode, meaning that while I could probably get my character killed if I really did a terrible job, that was not going to be my primary focus. With that said, I really enjoyed what this game delivered. I enjoyed its logic, and figuring out how to deal with the different types of life I encountered. The game had a very pleasant story, and the two human characters were pretty likable as well – all of which really helped, as I kept coming back to this game, playing it for hours and hours. It was like eating potato chips. I always wanted to find out what was behind that next "door," and to solve the next… well, I wouldn't say "puzzle," exactly but… interesting situations to figure out. I would have liked an extra 20 or 30 seconds of…something, at the very end of the game/story. But that's a fairly small complaint for a game that provided me with so many hours of entertainment.

Excellent exploration/puzzle game. This is just the right mix of exploration, story, and puzzles. The puzzles are not super challenging but they require some research. The overall story (with really great understated characters and dialogue, mostly), the beautiful environments, and the care given to the design of the ecosystem makes completing your research and your work feel like a meaningful accomplishment. A few minor issues: game center achievements made while offline will never be registered (this is not a big deal, but it is frustrating when an otherwise excellent game cannot get this basic element of mobile game design right), the save system is never transparent to the user, and certain aspects of the progress mechanic are likewise not clear (for example, your progress in a specific area can backslide without user input due to the natural evolution of the environment, which is really cool, but it is not clear how that impacts your overall progress through the game).

Subscription. I wasn't able to play it due to the “GameClub subscription” which kept me from playing, which I find to be annoying.

Wonderful Game worth the Money. Starts off slow but leaves you wanting more, more, more! I would buy a sequel in a heartbeat! I’ve played it several times through and have come up with at least three different endings. Really makes you think. Love, love, love it!

Halid's & Zoa's & Celibrane Oh My!. Despite the reference above, there are few similarities between Oz and the vast Cave system that the intrepid Dr Lian explores, while below the surface of Mar's. Much like Dorothy, Dr. Lian enters into a mysterious world that is full of fascinating organisms, some of which are beneficial, some benign, and key to the doctor's continuing safety & well being, others that prove to be extremely dangerous, which will test his survival skills to the max. What makes this game fun is discovering which is which and this is accomplished by using a combination of the few resources the Dr has on hand, such as the very cool and indispensable Jet Pack, along with logical analysis to determine how to utilize each native Martian life forms' specific attributes to the best advantage. This app requires some patience while you think it through, step by step. I currently have over 300 game apps on a variety of devices, and this one stands alone in its gameplay, storyline and overall quality. I highly recommend it.

Best five bucks ever spent. I just completed this game and finally got all three endings. There isn't a ton of walk through type material on the internet, so you are really on your own for how to get through it, but that just makes it that much better. It is not a difficult game, but you must think. Overall, I am putting this in my top ten most enjoyable play experiences of all time. What a wonderful, unique game. If they release a sequel I will buy it immediately. Can't describe how great this game is, just buy it and let it take you in. It's funny, beautiful, and for voice the voice acting is actually quite good. Just get it, you will not be disappointed. I'd say this is good for a more mature minded audience, ages 13 and up, just because it's almost like reading a good book...you must be patient with it and thinks lot. Not action packed like most games these days. Great job tiger style games!

Tremendous Game. I feel like I’ve written several reviews about this game, but the weird iOS system throws them to the rubbish heap. For this game, you (currently) have the greatest deal in the iTunes Store. This game is was so effing amazing and intriguing, it’s literally worth multiples from what it’s going now. Truly a well done, attention to controls, brilliant storyline, progressive game. Get it, or you’re a daft spaz.

Waking Mars is a Window to the Unknown. Studio Tiger Style has developed one of the most captivating, atmospheric, and engaging mobile games to date. In the vein of Metroid-esque exploration adventure games, Waking Mars presents a believable and suspense-filled trek through Mars' uncharted landscape that will keep new and hardcore gamers hooked from the very first moment. I can honestly say that the some games in the genre have high potential to grow tiresome within a few short hours. However, Waking Mars' very clever graphics (parallax perfection!), beautiful animation, and eerie score come together to great a truly must-download experiences for anyone. Hardcore gamers will undoubtedly respect the Valve-like attention to detail and seamless integration of story and gameplay. Casual players will quickly grasp the intuitive controls and highly usable, yet unobtrusive interface. The primary character, Liang, says at one spot - "We are lucky to have been chosen for this mission". I think that players of this game will share this sentiment. If you have an iPhone or iPad, just get his now.

Wow! Amazing Story unfolding!. I don't often give reviews but I've never played anything quite like this game. You actually feel like you are exploring a new environment. There are a few coordination/speed steps, but it is largely trying things and seeing what happens. I've died 3 times, but it doesn't spoil the game. Great not to have in app purchases. I was sucked in 2 hours ago and just came up for air. I will re rate the game if it does not continue living up to 5 stars, but so far it's great.

Favorite iOS game. I love puzzle games; this has been my favorite game thus far on iOS.

For those of you looking for something a little different. Do you insist upon giant explosions, crosshairs, and jingoistic propaganda (I'm looking at you, Modern Combat) in every video game you play? Do you require a set list of tasks to accomplish including the order in which you should accomplish them when playing any video game? Are you now, or have you ever been, Director Michael Bay? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, Waking Mars is probably not the game for you. If you appreciate a subtle playing experience where you are tasked with prodding a beautifully imagined and rendered dormant alien ecosystem into self-perpetuating growth, this game will be a good time for you. It would be unfair to call this a total ripoff of Aquaria, though the similarities are there. Aquaria focuses far more on fighting tough guys and bosses than solving puzzles -- in Waking Earth there are no bad guys to defeat, though there are a few to avoid. The graphics are better in Waking Mars, but the music isn't quite as good as Aquaria. Basically if you played Aquaria and thought it was stupid, you will think this is even stupider. On the other hand, if you enjoyed both it and, say, Superbrothers Sword and Sorcery, then you've got yourself a winner.

Better than expected. At first I thought the slow pace of watching plants grow would get boring fast, but quite the opposite. The deeper into the game play the deeper I found myself studying the different life forms and thinking through how to keep moving forward. I really liked the narration. Too many games I've played have the same track looped over & over, and having different characters with different personalities drew me deeper into the game. I don't consider myself a "gamer" so I like challenging, but not incredibly difficult games. This one fit the bill for me; and as the game progresses and more things are introduced, the complexity grows at a nice rate. Having said that, I'll admit that I got to a point in the game where I was either in an unreversable position and would need to start the game over or spend considerable time finding a solution, and I had time for neither, so I have yet to see it through to completion.

Poor format for a game service. Game club is a clunky, money hungry platform. The only free games are 15 minute long trials that are poor quality anyways. I didn’t play for long but from what I experienced it was very not worth the subscription you would have to pay.

The Hype is True!. I put off buying this app for far too long. Many times I buy into the rave reviews, only to be disappointed. This was not one of those times... Thankfully. I can't really say anything that hasn't been said, you truly have to experience this game yourself to understand how utterly captivating it is. I'm 56% through after quite some time spent playing it. I couldn't put it down, but FINALLY forced myself to stop playing because I want to experience this game more tomorrow. The price is worth it, truly, it's the type of game you actually want to take your time with just to explore and watch the different species interact with one another. Halfway through the game, and I'm still Seeing and learning new things! Whew. Just DL it. If you have a curious mind, you'll enjoy this one ;)

Thank you Gameclub. Thank you GameClub, for ruining an amazing game.

Best game I’ve ever played on a mobile device. I can’t explain how much I love this game, from its intricate music, to its wonderful graphics design. It made a perfect combination of mental coordination and fun, which overall add up to a great game, if not the best game I’ve played on a mobile device.

I purchased this game, now I need a subscription to play.. Too bad.

Buy a game then get it taken away. I bought this game months ago and I go to play it and now i need to make an account to play? Stay away from Game Club or whatever it’s called.

Curious.... Phenomenal game. Even all these years later. Wondering if anyone knows what the total biomass available is? I achieved a 33,805 total biomass and a core power 72, which I believe is max for core power. Anyone know what the maximum would be for biomass?

Waste Of Time Due To A Bug. The developer KNOWS about the bug where it tells you to “investigate the mysterious signal” and when you get there nothing happens. They want you to download iexplorer and delete a certain file. It says so on their website yet it gives no further instructions. I have navigated through a bunch of system folders trying to figure this out and I am done! I spent Hours playing this game because I liked it but had I known this would happen AND that rather than the developer fixing it they make the customer try to I would have never EVER spent my time playing this. I’ve played over 50 iOS games from start to finish and no other game has ever left me in a spot with an unfixable bug. The only way to MAYBE fix it is to delete the whole game and start over... no promise that will work though and I won’t waste my time any longer. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS THE DEVELOPER DECIDES TO FIX THIS!

Fantastic for nerd dad and savvy son. Is it really fun to wander around a cave and plant seeds? For hours? Yes. Yes, it is. I bought this as a shared game for me and my five-year-old, who's moderately game savvy. I was attracted by the sci-fi story, unique gameplay and graphics. And this app did not disappoint. We've played it together for dozens of hours, and finally just finished the story. For the first time. And my youngin' has already gone back to start it again. The story builds with near perfect pitch, revealing plot points in a way that's almost always interesting and nicely cumulative. Totally impressed with the developers' creativity when it comes to creating engaging challenges that don't simply revert to standard blow-it-up/kill-it actions. (I love a good FPS, but this is a great change of pace, and way more suitable for my young audience.) Also liked that the characters seem distinct, and appreciated the hints at further story outside of what we actually experience. And the scientific themes of research and experimentation were not lost on my five-year-old. A fantastic way for him to play around with those real-world concepts. A little more story upfront and at the end could've bookended the gameplay nicely without ruining the continuing narrative feel. But loved this game and highly recommend, especially as a shared game experience with a youngin'.

Love this game. Persistence pays off and failure des not send you back to the beginning. This builds a complex eco system step by step, level by level. Well worth the price for me and I wish they would make another one like it.

Great game. This is a great game, but the download takes forever though

Blah. U get 15 mins of play tome then u have to pay every month

Used to be good before Gameclub got it. If you really want to play Waking Mars, and you dont mind playing on desktop instead of mobile, then the same exact game is available on Steam without needing a stupid “subscription”. Literally the the only difference between them is the controls. Otherwise the steam version shares the exact same story, art and alien ecosystem. That said Waking Mars was a fun game years ago, now it forces new users to get a stupid subscription, while spamming older users begging them to try their dumb service.

Extraordinary Adventure Game!. This is an amazing adventure game, with excellent graphics and engaging story. I love the fact that you learn about the environment as you move along, mainly through one's own experimentation, building up a "Mars encyclopedia" along the way. And then you get to use this knowledge to master each level, sometimes revisiting older areas to acquire "items" and/or solve puzzles. Truly fascinating, and you can tell there was a lot of thought put in about how all the creatures interact, and how it should be balanced. Unlike other games, controls are absolutely perfect, and movements tend to be very realistic. It's not all easy or repetitive like some reviews mentioned, but rather each area presents its own challenge, and you have to be creative to successfully face some of the situations presented. And there's enough flexibility for you to conquer levels your own way, although the main story line is mostly linear. Highly recommended, and you don't have to be a geek or enjoy sci-fi to have fun with this game!

RUINED thanks to gameclub. I used to LOVE this game! I played it on my ipad all the time! The gameplay is incredible, love the sound design— this game is perfect… …Or, WAS perfect. Once Gameclub got this game, they make you pay a subscription to play it. I just tried downloading it on my iphone and I WASTED a bunch of my cellular data to download a game that I did not recognize at all. They make you log in or get a subscription just to start the game! What they SHOULD have done (and I would be fine with this) is allow you to play the game for free, no subscription or trial, but have ads whenever you enter another chamber. But no, they make you have a subscription. I am not about to pay $5 a month just to play my favorite mobile game ever. I’m just glad I managed to get 100% on my game before Gameclub got hold of it. And no, I do not want to get any of the free mobile games. Most of them are scams/shameless repeats and the rest are just moronic. This was one of the few games that was actually good on ios, now it is just ruined. Thanks SO much, Gameclub. I would rate this 0 stars if I could.

Teash. Trash just trash

Pay 2 win. I harmte pay 2 win games they sucker you i to thinking the game is free and then you realize its not at leadt set a price on the app.

Excellent SF exploration game. This is one of the best iOS games I've encountered. It puts you in the position of an astronaut exploring caves on Mars to locate a lost teammate and do research. The dialogue between you and another team member and an AI computer called "Art" back at the base explains the story. Most of the problems involve not killing enemies, but making things grow. The mechanics work well, the graphics are good even on the tiny iPod screen, and the challenges are interesting. You get a choice of difficulty levels; I play it at the easiest level because I'm just filling spare moments with it rather than dedicating myself to it. At the easiest level you can be "killed," but then you just have to start that piece of the game over. I don't know if this is true at the harder levels. It's an intelligent and fun game for the science fiction gamer, and I strongly recommend it.

Gameclub?. “Game club” seems to have just bought a bunch of abandoned great games from developers to push a subscription based “service.” No additional content, the updates are just to make it seem like they are doing something and to clear out negative reviews. At least the “pre sellout” version still works!

I want more of this game!!. I love the plot and the game mechanics. It's nice to play a game where your growing things and cultivating life instead of just randomly murdering. There's purpose, mystery, and it features characters of color.

Whoa!. Great for when I’m away from my PS4

I’m lost. I’ve been reading the reviews but it seems no one else is having the same problem as me.... I was having a lot of fun but then I guess I took a wrong turn and now I’m on a black screen flying with my jet pack through open blackness and I’ve been flying back up for over an hour and still haven’t found my way back. I’m totally lost and giving up playing this game because it’s not fun to keep my finger on the screen for an hour hoping I’ll reach solid land again. So confused. What am I missing ??)

What a great mix of gameplay styles!. I needed to take a break from playing, so here I am reviewing. I'm about to go back to it, though! An hour in, Waking Mars seems to have interesting characters that play off of each other well, an intriguing and mysterious story that I want to uncover, a large world that I want to explore, and all of this is wrapped around a good ecology simulation that I want to poke and play with. Grow creatures so that other creatures can eat and reproduce so that you can get the environment up to the point where yet other things can grow … that's quite a sim! Spider was fun, and much deeper than it had to be, but it was heavy on the *game* elements. This is still a game, but the world is much deeper and the story more accessible. Also, POC main characters? Intelligent world building? I can't wait to play more!

Please update for new iPad Pro 2018. I really love this game. It’s one of my all time favorite games. I still play this game, but I recently purchased the new iPad Pro. The game doesn’t fully fit the new screen size and it seems to crash sometimes.

One of the most interesting games I've ever played. Smart, immersive and refreshing, this game is a fully realized concept that kept me going till the end (11 hours of play on hard setting, stats tell me). The production values are stellar - the game looks and sounds beautiful. It's so nice to play something that doesn't involve killing things... I found it to be a very cool balance of platformer and puzzle, with some physics-based elements. The story is fascinating and deep, and an integral part of the experience. I loved the hard science feel - we need much more of that in this world these days. Should remind us all of what a space program can be... A bit slow going here and there (and Liang's interactions with the terrain can be awkward) but overall it's an unforgettable experience that lifts the bar for great gaming to a new level for me, regardless of device/platform. Remarkable achievement, devs - a well-deserved 5-star rating!

Waking mars. Waking Mars is a unique and brilliant game that gives you the true feeling of exploring Mars. Also contains a deep strategic game for which there is no equal

I LOVED this game! Hate phony constant “updates”!. I really hope the devs add more content. Pleeeeease? Give us another planet or area on the current map to explore? Please please please? But STOP issuing “updates” just so you can beg us to join your Game Club! I don’t know about anyone else but with me it has the opposite effect; it’s an absolute turn-off. I lowered my rating because you are misusing the update notifications.

Boring and a waste of money. This stupid game should be free. The gameplay is terrible, controls are clunky, and is completely devoid of a “story” save some annoying dialogue by stereotypical, bland, annoying characters.

Perfect game!. I like this game my favorite planet its mars i can explore mars on this game its cool thanks devploler!

Terrible.. Because of game club you have to pay a subscription to play it and in my opinion having to pay a subscription just to play a game is already a terrible idea but also, they pretty much waste your time if you aren’t willing to pay because there is no obvious warning that you will have to be part of game club and even once you download it, it only tells you that after the opening cut scene if they wanted to make people pay to play it, they either should’ve just made a paid game or at least put a warning so people who aren’t willing to pay aren’t just going to end up wasting their cellular data and time downloading something. Another thing they could’ve easily done was just do what some other games do witches have a free version where you can only play a bit of the game but it’s enough to let you know if you want to pay the subscription rather than doing what they ended up doing, which is just a bad idea.

Best game ever. The best part is flying the jet pack and also because it’s really hard and challenging and fun

Review Update!. Latest version is perfect again :D (This used to be my favorite iPad game, but for some reason the AI stops functioning completely near the middle of the game. They either just spin in circles accomplishing nothing and refuse to catch pods or just carry them around aimlessly, or they commit mass suicide leaving you with the time wasting chore of creating literally hundreds, spending hours at a time doing so only to have a bunch of corpses sitting at the bottom of lava pools and leaving you with the lowest biomass level possible. It's an obvious bug that I really wish the developers would fix. I've had a blast playing through a majority of the game, but ever since the latest update I can't even come close to reaching a biomass over 300 when I'm required to have at least 2500 just to progress. It's really just not fun anymore.)

Predatory tactics by a wannabe mobile arcade monopoly “gameclub”. The game is listed as “free” on the app store, but it isn’t. As a pathetic attempt to advertise their subscription service for a handful of mobile games, they paywall practically the entirety of the game.

Boring. Just bland and unfun. I wish I could get my 4bucks back

Great Game!. This is the first five star review I've given because this is the first game that actually deserved it. Not only does the game look and sound great but the gameplay is really fun and the story is engaging. It's a well balanced, thoughtful game and is well worth the time and money you will invest in it.

I love this game!!. I have played it 3 times and each time was different. There are lots to habitats to find and areas within habitats to discover. It is an addicting game.

Love It!. Well done Tiger Style I think you've done a great job with this game. The controls are amazing and fit very well on the iPad. The gameplay is great, I really like the idea about reproducing life instead of destroying it. And all the different types of plants/creatures that are available. The research system is great and is a good thing to go back to if you're stuck. At the moment I am up to the part where you have to block a passage so that all the cold wind comes in, but I'm not sure exactly how to block it, but I'll get there :D. I hope to see more games from you in the future. Good luck :P. Oh, and I have you're other game Spider: The Secret Of Bryce Manor, that was great as well but this is defiantly a step up!

Amazing. A very awesome game! Great story, gameplay and pacing. Very good graphics and atmosphere. Reminds me of super metroid a lot :). I like. Buy this game well worth the money

Another dimension. I just want to know two things ! What drugs was this developer on ? , and can I get some ?

Simply Stunning. This game is amazingly designed, enjoyable to play and a lot more cerebral than most games out there on the market. You can't win by just blasting your way through and coming out the other side, you've got to think and play carefully. A true masterpiece

Get it. I think this is one of the best adventure / exploring games on the app store I would buy it if you haven't.

Wonderful. Based on joystiq's rating system, I'm giving this 5 stars because it's an interesting, unique game that you really need to play!

Great adventure. Great game. Loved how they are not your stereo-typical characters. I have played it several times through. Good value for money especially as the game is not trying to get you to spend more money on "food" or "gems" or other things. I would love to see a 2 version or maybe have an update that has even more caverns.

Fantastic game. Really great game especially for the price. I'm still playing it and got it a week ago. Easy to navigate, interesting challenges and decent graphics. Easily one of the best games I've bought on iPad.

AAA-mazing!. Original, beautiful, creative and absolutely captivating game which is a true gem in the flood of short lived, fast paced games that are flooding the AppStore these days. It had me from the moment is started playing and I pretty much haven't stopped until I finished it some 9 hours later, always curious what's in the next area, flying, exploring and cultivating my little Martian paradise :)

Absolute genius!. This was one of the best iPhone games I have played... Having played over 400 games and reviewing almost the same amount this one stood out as one of the best. It was the sort of game you just can't wait to play more, like a really good book. I wish there was more games like this out for the iOS. I hope Tiger Style make another beauty like this one because it was an absolute treat to play. Loved everything it had to offer - gameplay was fantastic, music kept the suspense up and the storyline could have been from an awesome 80's sci-fi movie. I recommend this game very highly! Thank you Tiger Style. 5 Stars Planck

Waking Mars. After much much deliberation I purchased this title finally, on the basis of excellent reviews. I have since played the game for some time and I'm just not convinced it's as good as all the hype. I can however, see something there in the graphics and FX that would appeal to some people. I find the dialogue 'corny' at times and the gameplay...frankly, a bit boring. I'm pretty much open to any genre but I'm afraid that It just doesn't work for me.

Amazing. More then just a game, great fun to play controls work great! Can't wait for more!

The best action gardening game I've played in a long time.. Ha ha. Great to see a game like thus with true narrative on iOS. They're few and far between. Engaging and unique.

Simply breathtaking.. Combining a well-written storyline with gorgeous graphics and unique puzzlesque gameplay, this is THE most engaging and atmospheric iPad game I've ever played. Five star.

Beautiful game. Great story, graphics, sound and general design. Gameplay was fun but a tad repetitive at times. Still a stand out title on iOS! TigerStyle have done it again.

A winner by far. Unbelievable. One of the best games I have played. I can't wait for a second instalment....maybe another planet. Well done, you deserve a number one spot.

Something different. Tiger Style's excellent "Spider" led us to "Waking Mars". Here is another gem that stands out - to this parent - as one of the few games I'm happy to let my children play - without constraints.

Enjoyable, but too easy. The concept for the game was great. The story line was interesting too. But essentially the game is flying around with a jet pack, shooting various types of 'seeds' at different types of 'terrain' to make 'plants' grow. There is very little challenge to it.

Walking on mars. This is a great app, hours of enjoyment, totally absorbing and. Wry clever. Play relax mode and just enjoy the clever graphics and concepts. Hope there is a new adventure one day.

Wow, a superb game. A truly unique and beautiful game, feels like participating in a great novel. The gameplay is fun and so different from most games, the story is well written and professionally voiced, the graphics are incredibly creative and the game is very well paced. Like discovering an incredible indie band. Can't wait for more from this developer.

Enjoyed but felt incomplete. The banter was like the adults voices in a Peanuts cartoon... Was really enjoying the whole growing process and had several areas not maxed out and the game was over! Whaaaaaat? Some areas could not be maxed out. Need options to fix it. To me the controls were AWFUL. Hint: Use a stylus and you can see where you are going better. Better if there was LostWinds type option.

Picture are off-kilter and distracting. So far I have noticed only one expression on the guy explorer and the girl's pics look like she is having a web chat with her boyfriend rather than supervising a historic trip to Mars. Distracting.

Fantastic game.. Really addictive game but quite simple. Please add more complexity! Like levels, and more animal and plant life! Use of space age technology in the game would be awesome as well. This game has enormous potential.

Brilliant!. Atmospheric, engaging and beautifully designed. Very impressive story telling and awesome to watch the world grow around you. Reminds me of Abe's odd world (Abe's would be awesome on iOS). Deff worth the cash!

5 stars. One of the best games i've played on my iPhone! Worth more than what you'll pay!

Sophia's feedback. This game was the best ever! The missions, the puzzles, everything! The image, it was fantastic. Those signal puzzles and sentient life were hard, but awesome. All our kind regards, Sophia and Cyrus.

Very different & engaging!!. I loved this game!!! It is sooooo different. Great concept and had me playing for hours. Definitely worth every cent! I hope they make more games like this and soon too! Can't wait for the next one out by this creator!!! THANKS!!

Brilliant. Really enjoyed it start to finish. A game of discovery and intelligence. At long last a positive involving science fiction storyline experience. Well worth the purchase price. I'll be keeping an eye out for Tiger Styles next release.

Great game. For a 2d platformer this game exceeded my expectations with 2 endings to the story based on the amount of biomass you make, the story alone is worth buying the game, it's got an excellent premise of exploring Mars.

Great adventure game I have ever played. I love space and alien!!!! This game entertains me a lot. The setting of the ecosystem and organisms are all logical. Although the game time is a bit short, it's worth playing

Waking iOS!. This is what an iOS adventure game is supposed to be! Beautiful scenery, clever use of backdrops and fades, reasonable music (though I wouldn't buy it myself), a good story told at a good pace, and so much to discover! The instant transport system is a bit of a cop-out, but you will probably have to use it more than once. It's logical, believable, gorgeous, interesting, and more fun than you can poke a stick at. If you liked 'Total Recall', and liked Red/Blue/Green Mars, you'll enjoy this, guaranteed!

Just awesome. Amazing gameplay. Really rich storyline. I love watching the game's ecosystem flourish. Controls are really well executed. I lose hours playing this game.

Fantastic game.. Just watching the lifeforms interact with each other is fun enough, but what makes this game so great is how complete and polished it is! This is totally worth the full price. Now I feel bad for getting it at $1.99. Keep it up, Tiger Style!

Beautiful sense of adventure and discovery. Graphics are beautiful and gameplay is engaging and rewarding. Loved the characters (although not ART) and the discovery and adaption to environmental dangers rather than malevolent sentient dangers was a nice change from most other games. There is a beautiful sense of adventure and discovery in this game and I too found myself playing it a second time, on a harder setting, trying to discover all the secrets and tricks. Well worth the money.

Original and deep game. The gameplay is non-violent, with deep sci-fy plot. Characters are funny and clever, there are no adult jokes. Music is really nicely done, sounds like late-90s IDM. This is my favourite iOS game of 2012.

Awsome. This game is absolutely amazing. The gameplay is fun yet complex and the character is easy to maneuver, the story line is great. I was hooked on this game for hours and couldn't put it down! GREAT GAME!!!

Hidden Gem. Not sure why this isn't promoted on the front page as it's definitely one of the more creative and engaging games I've played on an iPad.

Highly recommended, excellent game. I've played this through on iPad and iPhone, both versions have excellent controls, similar to Thrust of yesteryear, except Waking Mars is fun! A great idea well implemented, good graphics, interesting music and it kept me interested from start to finish, twice. On the second playthrough I found even more caverns I'd missed, really interesting and fun.

Exceptional. I have Paper by 53 (app of the year), Action Movie FX (app of the year runner-up), The Room (game of the year), but this definitely should be app AND game of the year by far (followed closely by The Room)! Definitely recommend this game, and am actually surprised that it's only $1.99. I would think this game is at least $5.00. 11/10. 😋 BTW. Does the music remind anyone of Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP (this game is also a must), or is it just me?

Amazing game. I wasn't quite sure about the game at first but very quickly it captured me and I was hooked. Excellent game!

Great! But.... The game is great. Very original, and I'm loving it! Only problem is, I got up to the scanning part (with the big rock and the picture thing) and my iPod died. So I go back into the game and I can't scan again. I tried everything. So, does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Waking mars is awesome. Waking mars is a great, artistic game. You explore the caves of mars and alter ecosystems to get to your goal. Along the way you record scientific data about the lifeforms that inhabit mars including their diet, predators, seeds and biomas level.

AMAZING, wishing for more!. Love this game, it has amazing music and graphics and is great that it not only has subtitles but also actual voices for the characters. It is amazing being able to follow the story but also have the freedom of zooming around all the different caves! I hope you guys make more like this but don't rush because I want to see another amazing game like this. Definitely worth the money!!!!!!!

Really well made game.... This is a top notch game that certainly won't be for everyone. However, for those who love adventure games like it, it's superb. The simple dynamics work well and the production values, aside from for forgettable music, are high. The only main downsides are the controls that are a bit clunky and the UI, which is a bit poorly thought out. If those were adjusted this'd be a five star game for sure.

Not bad. Lost a start for clumsey controls but overall great game. Can be a little annoying when you get stuck on a room but

Wow. Amazing.. This game is so engaging, I found myself (accidentally) playing this game for 8 hours straight! The touch controls make sense and add to the gameplay. The story, art and the discovery aspects of the game make it my favorite iOS game to date :D highly recommended!

Beautiful. Killer soundtrack, fantastic concept and beautiful art. The characters are sincere and surprisingly non-cliche (in that you do not play a hulking space marine with a buxom assistant). Controls are a little confused on occasion, but the game is just so refreshing and inspired that I can easily overlook this. Tl,dr; Worth the price.

Interesting, Beautiful & Addictive. What a fantastic game!! Hard to put down, keeps you thinking about game tactics while doing daily activities. I liked the humans, loved the aliens & enjoyed helping them throughout the game. After completing the game you can return & improve the areas if you wish. I hope a Waking Mars Part 2 is in the pipeline.

Waking Mars 5 Stars. Where to start... Waking Mars is an amazing game, and the graphics are stunning. There's something about growing plants and opening Cerebrane on Mars enjoyable. ART adds to the fun of the game, with his weird sense of humour and voice, adds to the fun of the game. O truly recommend this game, I already have and my friends love it as well. Definitely worth the money, I would've expected to pay much more for this game. A definite 5 stars from me, and it will be for you too.

Waking mars. THE BEST GAME I'VE FOUND SO FAR! Loved it from start to finish. Great story, clever challenges that keep your brain working and brilliant graphics! AWESOME! Bring on the next one! More planets!!!! THANKYOU!!!

Fun terraforming aventure. What a great adventure! You really feel like you're properly spelunking on Mars; crawling and squeezing through tight passages, dodging falling rocks, and discovering new life. The controls are very good. With just one finger, you really feel like you're in control of your character. The plant system with its many combinations is very fun and it's always satisfying to drop a seed and watch a plant grow. Great work!

Excellent. It's an absolutely amazing game. The people who don't like it just want to get back to cutting off heads in skyrim, or stabbing aliens in the throat in halo. They don't appreciate life, and in this game you give life

Developers plz read. This is the best game ever plz make number 2

Perfect.. I've played this game for hours and hours and it's just amazing. The graphics are great and everything is set out so well. The controls are easy and discovering new things is constant. The game doesn't revolve around defeating enemies and the controls aren't just running and jumping. Each cavern and quest is unique and the characters are full of personality. I love this, worth every penny.

Aaaaammmmaaazzzziiinnnggg. Jaw-dropping.

Incredibly boring and tedious. the whole game is just wandering around tight environments planting seeds. the controls are unusually unresponsive and the story Ben Stein dull. definitely not worth $5.

Very cool. Very cool

Epicness in the form of a game!. This is worth the money! I bought it and I was thinking "please not space FarmVille, please!" (spoiler: it is not space FarmVille) anyways, great game! Please keep any updates coming!

Lovely. Lovely game, interesting yet dare I say poorly translated (?) narrative. This game seems like it would be great on a console or with a controller because you have your finger in the middle of the screen the whole time...which makes it hard to catch seeds, fly, etc.

INCREDIBLE. Game is dripping with style. This dev really knows how to present a game. Spider was an amazing game but Tiger have outdone themselves with waking mars. Good job guys!!! Keep it up!!!

Awesome!!. A great game with awesome mechanics, controls are ok and the graphics are...well...indie. The concept and story are really good, and voice acting is also indie. But I have encountered a bug which gets this game a four. Some sidequests cannot be finished because of a bug. The bug is when finding an object that needs to be found to finish a sidequests, but you find it before the sidequests begins, it cannot be completed.

Great Game, Imaginative and Challenging. Great game. The graphics are quite amazing, the gameplay is fantastic. Not a 5 minute game, which I like. Enjoyed the three endings. Lots of side challenges to keep you entertained. I did not gave it 5 stars because there are some "dark" challenges almost impossible to achieve. Should have some sort of hints. Besides that it is worth the money.

Best game in store. This game gives you many hours of fun and exploration. It requires thought and planning. Having a storyline was an added bonus. Well worth the money. I've played it over several times now.

One of the best games I've played. Great time. Hours of enjoyable play. I hope they make a second one.

Really good game!. This is a really well put together game. The controls are easy to use. The story is different and fun to play through. I didn't finish the game but it is fun and I am enjoying it.

Very enjoyable game. Great theme, and the touch controls are pretty much as good as it gets. Balancing the ecosystem for each cave was great fun and I was thoroughly engulfed in this game. There's multiple endings too! If you can get past some of the weak voice acting in parts, there's much to enjoy. Played on an ipad 2. The game was optimized quite well, it remembers every state of every room, and slow down was almost non-existant. If you like to explore, and want to feel like you are Mars, this is the game to get!

Plus * * * * *. This is one of the coolest pieces of awesome i've played in over a quarter century of gaming. This adventure is brilliantly executed. Great characters and compelling story, combined with fantastic gameplay make this a great experience. Well worth the cost of an unhealthy meal at a fastfood joint, and 5 times as satisfying!

Great game.. A well built and very fun. Worth every penny.

Atmospheric. Really engrossing

Great fun, great value. I got a lot of fun gameplay out of this game. I would definitely buy a sequel or follow up!

Amazing!. This game is sweet! Crisp visuals, intuitive touch controls, great music, an intriguing story, and classic side-scrolling exploration gameplay. What more could you want?

Enjoyable Sunday. I sat down and played through in a single quiet day. The game was engaging and had a good sound track. I liked balancing the ecosystem. Couple of points: character development? Why are these two weirdos all alone on Mars? One Asian grandpa whose facial expression never changes and an all-smiles girl who is dressed for the mall? The computer's intentionally messed up syntax grated a bit too. Otherwise an attractive, challenging platformer with a nice Martian twist. Give it a try.

Just great, smooth and nice. Hours of good time. I wish I could play it for the first time again :)

Awesome original game (achievement bug found). Waking mars is a fun exploring puzzle game with a light story and great graphics. Recommend this game to everyone. Would give it 5 out of 5 but two achievements will not register on game centre (prax zoa diet and faren zoa research does not update, still searching for the hidden achievement).

OMG SO AWESOME!!!. This is definitely one of the best games I have EVER PLAYED! The story is awesome and I had many hours of fun playing. Maybe do a Sentient one for earth.

Great game many fun hours of exploration. It's nice to encounter a game that let's you create rather than destroy. This game gave me many hours of pleasure and total immersion in the task of balancing the ecology of Mars. How about another planet?

Great. Have downloaded over 100 apps last year, and this game falls in my top 5. Intriguing and simple story. Innovative way of playing. Kept me playing right to the end. The character dialogue gets a bit campy and some of the character art feels low-budget, but that is it's charm. Well done game designers and developers! $5 well spent. Can't wait for a sequel.

:). cool

Excellent game 🐵🙈🙉🙊. This is the one of best game in AppStore! I wish for multiplayer CO-OP, will love to seek with my friends, will that be wonderful?

Awesome game. Interest gameplay gives you the flexibility to explore Mars, and it gives you a sense of achievement of saving Mars.

Great!. Definitely worth the money... Great concept refreshing to play an engaging original game!

Amazing game!. One of the best games I played on an iPad. Exploration and discoveries are fun and you always want to move on and discover new things. Hope there's a new one on the way ;)

Buy it!!!!. It's worth every penny! Superb game from some excellent developers! Well done!!!!

Not for me.. But maybe for someone else. Clearly a lot of care and love went into this game, but the poor voice acting and slow gameplay had me bored after 45 minutes.

i really love this game. i really love, and believe, this is an excellent game. it seems to capture the concept of an ecosystem, and is very very original in my view. i've played it through three times which is something i would never do with a story type game like this good job guys. make another.. lol

Best iOS game I've ever played. Great great game. Loved how the story and the new plants unfold. A masterpiece.

Waking Mars. An excellent game with great replay value. You really have to pay attention to all the little details to do the game justice and to achieve the best results. The characters are likeable and make you care about the outcome.

This is really fun. It's like Metroid meets Pikmin. Very satisfying to create an ecosystem. This is a truly fun game.

Zen Metroid. If you like Metroid, you'll like this. It's a much more calming, relaxing experience but very satisfying and beautifully made. Give the game a try, it's awesome!

Imaginative and Beautiful. Mars environment and hidden ecosystem beautifully rendered and thought out. Hours of play help you realize the beauty of an ecosystem in balance, and how easy it is to disrupt. Worth every penny!

Amazing. Even better than "Spider". The visuals are so well done and the controls are perfect! I can't stop playing (besides to write this). :) GREAT JOB!

A fun journey.. I have enjoyed this game since it came out. It is a nice exploration of Mars.

WOULD be great except…. THOSE ANNOYING CONTROLS!!! You have to control your character by having him follow your finger, so your finger/hand is mostly covering the screen a lot of the time & it makes it very difficult to see what you’re doing, not to mention that it causes him to move randomly, especially since we’re all used to “joystick” touchscreen controls. Plus, there’s that “map”, or the mostly red screen with a couple of super tiny scribbles on it way off to the side with some lines overtop & a (comparatively) big circle showing where you are but it’s completely blocking your immediate route, then there’s that extra line leading off somewhere & just stops. Oh, & just try zooming in 🤨🙄; it barely does anything & it doesn’t even hold itself, you have to keep holding the “zoom” that’s still covered anyway by that circle showing your location. And of course, no legend explaining any of it. Should have thought all that through before you released the game. I would say it’s still worth it, but not if you’re easily frustrated.

Kinda addictive. Wrote a review bashing it. So I decided to play since I paid. And gotta say not bad. Addictive

Fun all the way. This game Is good and I like saving mars 1 plant at a time

Best game. This gem is realy cool I would for sure by a sequal or prequal of this game and has anyone else notice that when a phyta runs away it sounds like its saying help me

A gem of a game. Intuitive gameplay coupled with an intriguing story.

Top notch game!. I loved this game. The characters are so real, loved the voice-acting. 5/5 for sure!

Original. Great atmosphere. We cannot let go. Hope other game like that will rise soon. Love the idea of space/science/biological exploration kind of game.

Worth it!. Despite appearances, it's a great game.

Must have for iPad gamers. This is the best game I have played on the iPad in a long time! Ignore the mindless drones who complain that you don't shoot anything and you are "just" planting seeds. That part is what makes this such a great game. Well worth the purchase price and the controls are excellent. The game designers know how to program for a touch screen. So to recap, great story, great graphics, awesome controls, unique game concept. This is a must own for iPad gamers.

My favorite iPad game, simply amazing. As a well traveled iOs gamer, it really means a lot saying this game is my favorite. Brilliant story line, smooth controls and breathtaking visuals. The more recently added voice acting is some of the best in iOs It combines elements of several game genres and scifi media, but manages to do it in a unique and beautiful way. There is something very zen about this game. I recently bought my first iPad and replayed it there, and the graphics are just as nice blown up (gets a little pixelated when it zooms in when Liang is crawling, but other wise fine). If you are a ios gamer there is really no excuse for not buying this gem of a game. I can't recommend it high enough.

Excellent game. A must-buy. I picked this game up on whim from reviews I'd read on various sites. I did not expect it to be so engaging! The "puzzles" are tricky, but simple enough that I never felt "stuck" for too long, and the graphics will surprise you (It's 2D+). There's a good learning aspect of the game where you try to figure out how everything works together and how to maximize your "ecology" that I found completely addictive. If you like platformers, and more concept-oriented problem solving you'll love this game.

Held my interest. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the game would be improved by deleting the dialogue and the photos of the two protagonists. That being said, the game held my interest enough that I played it to the end (or to one of the ends). The new jet pack option was a nice add. I was fine with the controls and glad to have the ability to travel (warp) from one location to another. I thought the concept was good, and the graphics were a plus. In the end, I would recommend this game. Good work, TigerStyle.

Stunning. Beautiful, immersive, gripping. I love this game! It's like Aquaria's martian brother (with less violence). The play control is spot on, the game mechanics are somewhat straight foreward but still interesting, and I've found myself actually WANTING to explore (which is a nice change of pace from most games where I just want to get from point A to point B as quickly as I can). The graphics are FANTASTIC!!! This game is an authentic gem!

What you need to know.... Some love it and others don't get it. This is not an action game! In this game you run and fly around in a cave on Mars containing various life forms that you help populate by finding information about their life cycles. It is slow paced, humorous and it has some puzzles that you need to figure out. Relax. You can have hours and hours of fun with this game if you are looking for this TYPE of game. If you want an action game you will be disappointed.

WOW. This is hands-down one of the best gaming experiences I've had on the iPad. The graphics and physics are stunning, the environment is deeply immersive, the story and dialogue are cleverly written. It's just the right mix of adventure, exploration, and open-ended problem-solving. The pace is completely up to the player, and the incredible level of detail in the game's environments could cause you to spend hours sight-seeing as you progress through the game and learn more about the creatures and mysteries that inhabit it. It's a super fresh take on a classic sci-fi adventure that deserves some serious attention!

So enthralling!. If you like Aquaria, you will like this (and you will wish Aquaria had this game's transporter feature to easily move around the map). There are no "bosses," which makes the game more relaxing. But it's still challenging. I wasn't sure I'd like this, because of the barrenness of the landscape, but once I discovered what was under the surface, I couldn't get enough of exploring this version of Mars.

Great game. Probably one of the best games I've ever played, and it's ideal for a tablet platform like iPad. It wasn't a hard game to complete but there is some strategy involved in how you plant your alien lifeforms to create an ecosystem where biomass continues to grow. The biggest disappointment to me was the ending, which was a bit anticlimactic and left me wondering what happened. However, it's definitely a 5 star game, and highly recommended.

Awesome game! More please?. This truly was an awesome game. Challenging in places but very relaxing over all. The only thing is I finished it :( now I don't know what to do. There isn't too much replay value (only 2 possible endings just based on how patient you are). It would be really cool if you had some kind of garden where you could play around with all the stuff you find or just something more happening after the ending. More rooms could be nice. Over all great game with not enough replay value.

Truly Something Special. As I played the game, I began to gain an appreciation for the interactions between the different systems in a way that was meaningfully unique in terms of how physical these interactions are. That is the magic of Waking Mars that just creeps up on you... At first, you think you are playing a type of free-roaming metroidvania gardening simulation, but then you eventually find yourself obsessing about the sustainability of your self-perpetuating machines made out of living parts realizing that you now hold a lot of scientific information in your head and have the ability to synthesize elaborate plans with this information. After all is said and done, Waking Mars has undoubtedly brought out the latent scientist in me.

Beautiful In Every Way! MUST BUY!!!. Excellent! Tiger Style has truly created the most addictive puzzle game I've ever played and may be the best family friendly action-adventure game since Super Mario Galaxy. It's fun, esthetically pleasing and an absolute joy to play. This is no time killer, this is a gamer's golden fantasy! And finally, here's the part the parents will especially care about; if you want your young boy or girl child to have fun on the IPad or IPhone without discovering or gravitating towards the darker side of the Apple world, just direct him or her to this excellent work of art!

Amazing!. I am only about 3 hours in, and I find this game amazing. The controls are good, and gameplay is amazing! The different plants, animals, and objectives always keep things new, fresh, and innovative. The voice acting also makes it interesting. I liked having to research the creatures, and find out about what they did, and how they all worked together as a environment. The search for sentient life spittle while into the game kept me playing, and this is worth a purchase. All the idiots who say other wise are completely wrong, and have no taste in games. If you want a game at will keep you playing, make you think, and want you to discover, learn, and explore a perfect world, then this game is for you

Challenging, puzzling, relaxing free-form game. If you rebuild life on only one planet this year, make it Waking Mars! Interesting and challenging, along the lines of Osmose and Eufloria. You can get through it quickly, but it's even more cool when you come up with tricks for how to get the different lifeforms to play well with each other. You can beat a level in all sorts of ways and I like changing the balance from one direction (little critters) towards another (snapping lifeforms). Great game on iPhone or iPad.

More like a story. The game starts off simply and soon it has you under a spell. I was deeply immersed in it, found myself enjoying setting up each cave, and even caring for the plantamajiggrs. The music was great, the controls worked fine, and the game flow open ended enough that I got the sense I was exploring on my own terms. Congrats to Tiger Style and please bring more, or develop the saga! I feel this is the the most compelling storyline in an iOS game I've played. As feedback, The control center woman's pictures were over-reactive (almost muppet like) and her comments sometimes trivialized the momentous discoveries being made. Would like her role to be more Cortana and less Jar-Jar. As I said, the best storyline in any iOS game.

Fantastic Gameplay!. Finding it hard to believe that there are not endless positive reviews on this terrific game. I'm 62 and have been playing games for many years, and I have to say this game is top notch. Easy learning curve on character movement, and cave stalactites fall, so make sure you're not underneath one when they come crashing down. Music is fantastic and adds to the suspense of exploring unknown Mars subterranean world. Very imaginative designs and although I'm only in Chapter 1, there's no doubt that I am going to find it hard to put this away for the night. $4.99 is a steal for so much audio/visual pleasures! BUY IT! You won't regret it!

A real game.. After reading another review about a gentleman playing until his battery was dead, I decided to give it a shot. Boy, oh boy. Games of this calibre are few and far between. I do not mind the cost of this game one bit, as I got my money's worth. Good mechanics, only a very few places where I wanted to moan about something. Will buy whatever this developer releases next.

More Than One Ending! (Hints). Without ruining this for you, just know there are different ways to complete or finish the game! Really enjoyed this one, has hours of interesting game play, casual but sometimes tricky. Make sure to play in more than one session slot and you can load a saved finished game to go back and finish what you might have missed. Try to complete all the research items - there are a ton of neat ways to use the plants to interact. You can set up some parts of the cave like a warehouse for the creatures you will need to alter rooms and Max out your Biomass. There is a way to Max out Biomass for every room with a meter, though you might have to come back to it later once you have access to a new life form. Don't worry over it at first, just build the Biomass high enough to open the cerebranes. Use the travel button to get to any place you have been, sometimes the fastest way to where you want to go is an adjacent cave, then just go out the near exit into the side of the cave you wanted to be. Try to find Octo and try to get the Hovering Jet pack - this sure makes life in tighter quarters easier!!

Amazing. In a world of copycat apps full of angry bird clones and tower defense games, it's great to find an app that is this ridiculously good on so many levels. I have been playing Tiger Style's games since Spider (another gem), and this easily is the best thing game made. This game is full or gorgeous graphics, fascinating exploration and adventure, a stellar soundtrack, as well as being one of the most ingenious puzzle games I've ever played. The balance of the creation of different plants to solve puzzles, and the platforming is perfectly done. This is a game other developers should look to for serious creative inspiration and is just another example of how truly GREAT games exist on iOS.

Very Creative!. This is a great game. It's visually striking, sounds amazing, and is super entertaining. It moves at a good pace, rewarding you with new caverns and weird creatures constantly. The creators were very detail oriented and there is a lot of cool stuff to learn about all the life you can create. It has a great level of challenge in a fascinatingly surreal environment. I can't think of one complaint. Highly recommended! I love this game!

Wow! A Magical Adventure!!. A very well designed game! Simple controls to play. Wonderful graphics. Novel idea for a game! I loved Bruce Manor by these folks! Great ease in recalling research results and applying them to future discoveries. If I think very hard to try and think of a complaint....it would be only that the dialog of the female member of the team is a little unrealistic considering this is a mission to Mars, etc...but really! Who cares! Lol. I can see I will be up late tonight. 👽

Fun, peaceful game. I got this game when I was in bed with the flu this week. Just finished it now. Because there's no real threat of dying, playing the game is a peaceful and enjoyable experience. I like the story and the element of scientific discovery. When you later start to understand how all the different plants interact with each other in a confined space, it's fun to first fly through the level and plan where you want to plant what. I strongly recommend it.

Very creative, smart and fun. This game is awesome. The amount of thought and effort the devs put into the game world is absurd. In a good way. The various species you encounter are all very unique, and have strange evolutionary traits and behaviors that make perfect sense. Everything works together so well. Fans of Metroid who'd like the same type of exploration adventure without all the fighting should check this out for sure, along with anyone remotely interested after reading the description and seeing the screenshots.

Wonderful Game!. I payed $4.99 for this game. Using iPhone 5. It definitely is unique with its own atmosphere and storyline, gaming controls were simple and smooth to use. I usually don't pay much for games but this one was worth every penny. The quality and game time delivered and I hope to see more games like this. My only small complaint is that I wish there were more difficult challenges as in dealing with puzzles or something. But definitely earns 5 stars all the way!! I can see myself returning to this game, can't wait to experience on an iPad if I was to ever get one. Minor bug: Guy may move around and even die when calibrating frequency.

The best game I've played on ios. Heres a little background-- I bought and played this game shortly after I watched Prometheus and all of the Alien movies. I was so upset after finishing the quadrilogy, and was still hankering for something with that same cavernous, extraterrestrial creepy organic vibe. Interestingly enough, Mars satisfied that for me. Now let me be clear that Waking Mars is not scary like Alien. There's no gore, but it captures the beauty of the quiet moments, while still maintaining a chance of danger. Friends I've enthusiastically shown screenshots to says it looks like metroid. So there's that. It's an otherworldly and beautiful experience and I would totally play again if I ever had a good chunk of time, to perfect certain things I did wrong the first time around. Like killing the wrong spore plants. My god that made things impossibly frustrating at the end. I do wish there was the option to create multiple save files, so I could go back if I screwed up, which I did with the aforementioned spores. But the game is amazing enough that I'd be willing to replay it to get the alternate ending, so it earns all five stars. If you like sci-fi in any capacity, you will love this game.

Excellent. This is a great example of what's possible on iOS. The gameplay is unique, music immersive, and the visuals are stunning. That said, it's not perfect. I think the mechanics for manipulating the floating seeds (forget the name) could be tweaked because right now it's beyond frustrating. My only other criticism is the ending is pretty abrupt. I haven't yet completed the 2nd ending, but I've heard it's not much better. An explanation of the results of your actions and a better scene between the characters (instead of just a still shot) would be nice. Overall a satisfying experience and worth the $ especially for a universal app.

Great sci-fi game. Finished the game and ready to play it through again. This game is a perfect blend of exploration, resource management, and platforming. The controls get a little imprecise at times, but the game is very forgiving so no major frustration there. Well written dialog and authentic sciency terminology and storyline appealed to my inner science/space geek, but it stays in the background and doesn't beat you over the head. Great game!

Most original Mars game, ever!. It's been great playing, I couldn't put it down for two days. The story just keeps going until you find out the truth and discover the reasoning behind every level. The music is so great, it has alien, space theme to it that just flows with the story. I only wish more time was spend on the characters, their pictures seem so distant from the graphics of the game. Little cheesy at times. The story would take a better shape if there was a brief introduction video of what happened and why you are on Mars. Same at the end, would be great to see short video of rescue mission coming and taking the character back to Earth. Overall this is my favorite game ever made for iOS. Enormous amount of work really shows. Thank you!

Well worth trying this game out.... Why pay for games when you can get so many for free? Because every once in awhile, you find a real gem. It's no wonder it was picked as game of the week at the app store and on various websites. I've played the game enough to get all three endings, but I still want more. I guess I'll have to bump it up a difficulty level. My only concern reading the reviews was battery life and brightness level...well, there is an in game brightness level adjustment, so nothing to worry about there. Don't wait anymore, just do it.

Neat premise, needs to utilize ecosystems more. Pretty fun game of exploration, with a neat premise of creating life, and dynamically-interacting ecosystems of it at that. Interesting story with some light mystery that gives good purpose, and the dialog is just enough to enrich these things but not get in the way. Nice ambient music and art creates a good atmosphere too. A little short: took me just over 10 hours to fully complete and get everything at a laid-back pace on Hard. Biggest complaints: game is very easy, and the core objective in each room is basically the same: plant a bunch of stuff. I wish some more thought had been put into using, for puzzle solving, the cool life-and-death cycles you can establish. Also, once you've maxed out the biomass in a room, there's not much reason to revisit it, other than maybe restocking supplies.

Awesome game w/ few flaws. I just finished the game at 108.7% completion, and I have to say I was really impressed. However, I can't help but think that I would have been even more so if I had an iPad to play it on. The detailed graphics and close fitting controls suggest that iPad is this game's native platform, and the at-times awkward camera control accentuated this fact when navigating the caves on the iPhone 4S. Regardless, it was an entirely rewarding experience through and through. Don't expect to go sprinting down halls blasting alien creatures, this game is all about growth and restoring life, not fast paced action sequences. The few cinematics in the game, while simple, were very beautiful and inspiring. Definitely worth the $5, but best if you play on the iPad.

Incredibly beautiful experience!!. One of the most unique games I have ever played on any platform. Amazing visuals and great gameplay make this a must for any iPad gamer. The music and interface add to the amazing atmospheric experience. For me specifically I love the subject matter and story. Puzzle, platformer, action, exploration hybrid game that is completely addicting describes what type of game this is. I will be so sad when I have finished it because I don't want it to end.

Like Living Through An Awesome Sci-Fi Movie!. I am so incredibly pleased with the experience of playing through Waking Mars. The story is wonderfully told, with better than average voice acting. I really started to care about the characters during the course of the game. Gameplay is a mix of puzzle and action, with many ways of "solving" a particular cavern. The ecology-based puzzles are clever, with a gentle difficulty curve so you never feel overwhelmed as you progress deeper into the story. I am so happy that I took a chance and bought this game. If any of the devs read this, please know how grateful I am to have played your wonderful game. Thank you!!

Thanks for the fun!. I had so much fun exploring Mars, waking it up, raising power through combinations of life planted in various locations. This was a really great iPad adventure. And my son is enjoying it on his iPod. The story was interesting (Amani's goo-goo eyes always cracked me up, and ART was cute; made me giggle). Looking forward to more like this from you. It was addictive and visually pleasing. I'm 43 and had a blast. Some said boring, and I can see that, but once you get into it and learn how to use the tools, I found it compelling albeit relaxing.

Absolutely Great Beautiful Game!. I can't really add anything that hasn't already been written here. I'm on iPad2, but when I get a new one, I'll play this game again. Discovering a fantastic game like this doesn't happen everyday. If it looks at all interesting to you, you will love it. Story, Art, and gameplay all come together perfectly. I understand this is an indie developer, which is just great to see you don't have to be a big corporation to create a superior game.

Visually pleasant, but not much else.... There seems to be somewhat of a bandwagon judging by these other reviews. I'm of the opinion that this game was quite boring. It truly is only about planting seeds on mars. Then again, I could be wrong being that I only gave it a limited run time. 'Mundane' articulates the description rather well. I greatly appreciate the simple visuals of the game. The controls are also pretty nice. Other developers could learn a thing or two from a game like this, but again, for me personally a game about planting seeds on mars doesn't quite hit the spot..

Fun, immersive, and not some old rehash!. Most Fun I've had since Star Battalion HD!! It's a not less of game because it's not an action shooter, it's immersive and beautiful. And in the end isn't that what we want in a good game most of all: to loose ourselves in a different world for a few hours and have a lot of fun doing it?! And if you are looking for a game that you can enjoy but don't have to hide from the kids, this is definitely it! Enjoy it together.

Excellent and Unique Gameplay. This game was, from the beginning, something new. To sum up the core elements: gardening and Mars and cave exploration. The game was easy to pick up, and I love the way the wealth of creatures grow and interact with each other. Progression was excellent and I never had too much of a problem with any particular level. That being said, the only negative is that it's a bit hard to control the avatar. Arrows to move and a jet pack button would have worked better, in my opinion. Nevertheless, the controls are worth getting used to because this is a great game!

Best sci/fi adventure game in a long time. In my younger days I was a huge fan of the point and click adventure/puzzle games (e.g. The Dig, Monkey Island, Full Throttle). This game is reminiscent of those games. The graphics are beautiful, the story line engaging, the interface simple yet powerful. I find myself spending hours and hours at a time playing this game. It is a purchase you won't regret and it will provide many long lasting hours of entertainment pleasure.

Excellent Game!. This is a unique and entertaining game with beautiful graphics, written with much imagination. It is also very refreshing to pay for a game which offers hours of entertainment without constantly haranguing you for in app purchases - which this game has NONE of- THANK YOU. This is not a fast-paced shooter or runner game. Instead you take your time to explore and discover these caves on Mars. There is plenty of mystery and discovery without things getting too difficult or frustrating. I highly recommend this app and hope these developers come up with something similar (I would love to see a rogue/dungeons & dragons game made like this. Great game, highly recommend if this is your idea of gaming fun.

Great idea, but.... I love the idea of this game and the art style is great. The game comes to a stand still however because of the controls. If this game used a standard jump button and left/right arrows, it would be 5 stars. Every other game you have played before this doesn't stray from the "standard" controls. This game decides that you jump/walk or jet pack around wherever your finger is. First, your finger will get in the way of what you need to be navigating to or around. Secondly, moving on the ground with this same mechanic makes you accidentally jump up because there is no designated buttons that control left/right movement. You just push on the screen and you move there. I wish a better control scheme was implemented. This is what happens when you decide to be an "early adapter" to a new release. I don't want a refund, just an update and then it's $5 well spent

One of the best games for iPhone. One of the best games I've ever played. This game has made me wonder what we're missing out on as a result of the industry's focus on violent, shoot up the place games. Befor e playing this game, I never questioned why most games are simply about killing an enemy or villain. I have to agree though, the industry's focus on violence is just lazy. Waking Mars is so creative and interesting, it probably takes a lot more talent to create a game like this. Anyway, I highly recommend this game.

Excellent and captivating. I bought this game when it first came out but didn't spend much time with it. After the most recent update I decided to give it another chance and found it incredible. The core exploration is interesting. I had a great deal of fun observing and interacting with the various lifeforms to figure out how they work. My favorite so far is a jellyfish-life herd creature that gathers seeds to reproduce. The new voice acting is icing on the cake.

Great so far!. I've only gotten to the second chapter, but I love the artwork and quirky sense of humor so far. One of the most unique-feeling games I've played on any platform in ages. Very much looking forward to the rest of the adventure! UPDATE: Well, this is the only iOS game I've ever played through completely *multiple* times. I think it's great and highly recommend it.

Fantastic. Beautiful. WELL worth the price of admission. The story is compelling, the gameplay is fun, the environment is engrossing, and when you're done, you'll find yourself wishing to be able to explore even more caverns of Mars. I particularly liked the scientific exploration game mechanics - where most developers would just stick a gun in your hands and have you shoot your way through each level, the creation and observation mechanics make for a fun and fresh gameplay experience. Top notch work!

Interesting for a short time. It's not great. I absolutely loved Spider, but I'm having a hard time relating to Waking Mars. It's unique for certain, but may not be for everyone. I think the developers are really brilliant, but may have created a game here that is too niche. I hope I'm wrong. I grew tired of it after about two hours of game play. The controls are fine, the art is great, but the "story" is bizarre. The dialogue that pops up intrusively throughout the game is difficult to follow and there's just way too much of it. I think it's supposed to be funky, but it's just annoying to me. Boring is another word I'd use to describe it. I know it's getting some nice reviews, so it does have something going for it. I would just caution potential buyers not to buy it just because you may have liked Spider. It's not nearly as good of a game as Spider is.

Incredibly rich. This was pretty much the best iOS game I've ever played, and I've played quite a few, starting on the iPhone 1. Almost never do I play a game start to finish, but I did this one in two days (largely forgetting to eat or sleep). The survival aspect is fun, the ecosystem is *incredibly* rich, and the narrative is fantastic. I bought it because I loved Spider, and this far exceeded my expectations. Huge thanks to Tiger Style, and I can't wait to see what they do next.

Great game. The only reason why this game isn't game of the year was because it doesn't force you to rate the game like all the other cliche games available. Having played game of the year, and this one being runner up, I enjoyed this game so much more. Ingenious plot, relates to actual theories and historically accurate to our current vireos on mars. And while playing you slowly discover exactly what makes mars tick in its own create way of making a biosphere. Fantastic game, completing it all before following through with the ending, with 106% complete. This game is a must have. Bought it yesterday being to sick to show up at work and in my fuzzy haze played for 7 hours straight. MUST BUY!

But a solid 3 stars.. Waking Mars has potential, lots of it, and an intriguing premise (it's slightly derivative, but what isn't?). Gameplay is interesting enough to keep your attention, graphics are arresting, and sound is very good. So what's taking away two stars? First, the game doesn't quite feel finished; pacing is uneven, and it fails to really connect with the player. The control system also needs work; fine direction is frustratingly difficult. Second, and more significantly, the price tag. Sorry, but this game is not worth $5 under any circumstances. A $2-3 price would be more reasonable. With the few reviews that were available, I paid my five bucks with high hopes, and the game ultimately failed to deliver on them.

Astronomically Awe-inspiring. Very nicely put together. As far as layout is concerned the entire game is very well thought through with hours worth of exploration as the player has to use very specific maneuvers to help reveal what's under the surface. It contains alternate endings that keep you coming back just to see "what if?". Our heroes in the game are very true to life, and comical providing a pleasant venture into a vast world which expands ever downward in a very rewarding quest.
