very awesome, but needs different time sigs!. This is a very awesome drum machine. It seems to have everything you need- whether you want to create beats on the fly or prepare something for an audio track. My one qualm with this product is that it doesn't seem to support other time signatures. All rhythms follow a 4/4 outline, overall. It would be great to incorporate other time sigs-- most especially some sort of three meter. Lack of different time signatures seems to be the only thing that is limiting this app. Otherwise I'd give it a perfect 5! EDIT: Finally found out that meter is fully customizable under the "Step" tab. So, changed rating to 5 stars. Great app!

What happened? DM1 is constantly deleting my files!!!. For the third time in as many days, I've lost 4+ hours of music-project work to DM-1. The app has recently started resetting/reverting/deleting everything I've just finished working on the moment the app is closed and re-opened. You know what's frustrating? Spending 4+ hours working on music and finally coming up with something you're relatively happy with, only to open the app again five minutes later and find all of that work gone. And assuming that you must have done something wrong, so going through the entire process again, and losing another 4+ hours worth of work. And then assuming you're totally missing something, so really getting in there and trying to figure out what's going on--and then, once you think you've got it figured out, spending another 4+ hours on writing music that is immediately deleted. I've sworn by this app for YEARS. I've made a lot of music with it. I've purchased it for friends, and recommended it to countless others. I mean, it's been around for a while, so I figure the developer too busy working on other projects to bother updating/fixing this thing. Or maybe they're all but officially out of business? Ugh. So frustrating. What a bummer. I've tried contacting the Fingerlab team via Twitter, but no response (yet).

Just needs one thing.... This app is outstanding! Great sounds, easy to edit... Only problem is it needs export to the new iOS file system! Then you could have your beats synced to your computer and import them into a DAW. Dropbox is okay but it’s less integrated than iDrive and I don’t want another file syncing app on my PC.

Bpm issues. Tap tempo is hard to use. But more importantly, I’m not sure the bpm metronome is accurate. I’ve tried to beat match it to other apps and I can’t get it to line up at all. Love the app tho, but That’s a big issue for me. Good luck. I’ll still keep using if I can find a work around. Thanks

It just has that feeling... so good!. Definitely a good app, with all these icons and an underground vibe, and swing seems to work better than DM2. It might be big, but the stuff is worth it. From clean analog sounds to gritty sounds to apparently, animal noises, you’ve got a lot of possibilities, especially paired with a recording app for multiple tracks. However, I have a question. So, I bought the everything pack, and if a new in app pack is released, do I automatically get it, or do I have to buy it? How would you go about doing it? Hope the answer helps!

Best yet that I have tried!. It is easy to use, well laid out, versatile and with good sound quality. I had to delete and re-install the app because initially I had a crashing problem when I selected the Mattel drum kit. I especially like that once you have selected your drum kit that in the mixer you can change any kit component to use its counterpart in any other drum kit without affecting the other kit components. The 'Melodic' instrument has too much resonance or something as there is some noise in it which gets worse with any use of effects. That should be fixed. While I know with apps that emulate a historical device/instrument remaining faithful to the original is desired it would be nice (especially for beginnings) if the labels for a kit's components reflects what they actually are. For example the cowbell in the King04 kit is really another snare drum. Or have an option to enable the feature. That way the purists could select not to use it. I found a problem with song naming/renaming where you never can use all the field for renaming and sound names when it erase some of the last letters it will not let you even to put back all of the ordinal characters. I think what is really going on I'd that they used proportional font so it only "appears" to not allow the full 17 characters. That should be fixed though is a minor detail not that I understand what the app is doing, This is the first drum machine I actually 'want' to use!

Simple yet Powerful and Musical. I saw it on the app list, watched the video and downloaded just about that quick. I've got Funkbox and Rebirth and IElectribe and the Korg iMS-20 (which is a favorite). This one fits right in with those apps. It's of the same caliber without question. The user interface is absolutely superb. VERY intuitive controls. I particularly like how you can quickly make up patterns and then go to the song tab and simply drag that patterns to the timeline. That is a stroke of brilliance and I wish other apps were THAT easy. I also like that I can actually HEAR the different drum elements. So many apps have drum sounds that are barely audible which is annoying to say the least. The drum sounds are nice and clear and of very high quality. I think the most important thing I can say about this app is that it's MUSICAL. I'm looking forward to updates because I'm certain this is an app that can only get better.

I really love this app… but.... I have no problem giving this app a five start rating because it does absolutely everything it says it will and more… the one thing that I hoped it had though and may have misunderstood or simply do not know how to use to set up properly is a "rock type" drum setup that simply sounds like a real kit with a double bass and whatnot… It is an absolute blast to mess around with otherwise and make more "dance oriented" beats for and for kids who are advanced learners this thing is awesome as an accompaniment to the Korg iMS-20… I would definitely recommend this app to anyone looking for a simple to use really ingenious drum machine app aside from what I stated above that it seemingly doesn't have a "pure rock kit" set up…

Great Drum Machine. This is my first drum machine, it was hard to make it work at the beginning because I am not a drummer (I play guitar), but once I started to know it I can only say that this is all I need to practice and write songs along with my guitar. Big selection of acoustic electronic drums. GREAT APP.

Fun!. Nice app for large variety of applications. Versatile, good sounds.

Amazing satisfier.. This is the greatest thing since canned sardines. I love it and it drives everyone else in the house nuts. It will speed the parting guest for sure. Seriously, if you have a strong sense and appetite for rhythm you will be highly rewarded here like no place else. It will make you happy happy.

Good beats. Juice red beats. Well worth the money

I love this app!. Easy, intuitive and versatile!

DM-Updates, but the wrong ones. Update: still waiting for working cymbals and recorded pitch changes. I also noticed that the pitch change doesn't even work for live triggers, which would partially make up for having only 1 tom, because when you need it there is terrible distortion when you try to bend a note. This might be new since the update. New kits like the tympani could really use this, since there is only a few tympani hits mixed with totally unrelated percussion. Old: I honestly thought I was getting a serious drum machine app. This, in its current state, is not. As pointed out, pitch changes are not recorded, but the real kicker (pun) for me is that the hi-hat does not choke closed, which is normal, expected behavior from a drum machine. This is what separates a fun toy drum app from a serious music production app. It is unusable to me until this is updated, and is more important than adding audio copy/paste or toms.

No good. Limited to 9 samples for a kit. Why? Each kit has different samples but show up with the same labels. Using a studio kit, the sample listed as “hhopen” is a snare sample, for example, rather than open hats. When building a song, you are directed to long tap your patterns and drag them into the sequence. This works only sometimes. For the most part, you’re sitting there repeatedly tapping and holding, waiting for the app to select your pattern so you can drag it. I just wasted $5

Excellent Drum Machine App. Great drum machine app, I use it on the go to help me conceptualize the songs I’m composing or for reviewing the work of others to expand my own creativity. In short, DM1 is a very inspiring app to help write songs.

almost perfect- great update. This is by far the most forward and fun drum machine for the ipad on the market currently. it looks exceptionally well designed and most of the little quirks internally have been worked out including the fx per track finally and the beyond amazing SAMPLE IMPORT=D. This puts so many hardware samplers to shame and makes it on paper the best drum machine around. ........However this app NEEDS PROPER MIDI/COREMIDI SYNC to be used in a professional context live and with that it will be the Drum Machine to beat for ages to come..... something like a korg electribe protocol where it can turn off all data except the clock tempo sync. thats in my opinion the most important feature for a drum machine, syncing to all your gear, but i guess to each his/her own

Love It!. This App makes my musical life better in every way!

I’m not a musician. ....but I love playing with this app. I’ve used it for my own amusement. I’ve made sound effects and soundtracks for my own personal videos. I have more fun with this app than any game I’ve ever played.

Great sound and features, but.... Giving it five stars because it is really a fantastic drum sequencer with lots of slick features. But please, dear developer, the midi sync implementation needs to be completely rewritten. Please check out SeekBeats for the tightest implementation I've come across. It slaves to external Midi sync like a champ. If DM1 could do this, it would truly be perfect!!!! V5.0 I think the midi sync implementation is actually worse than 4.1, if that's even possible. V5.1 Now we're getting somewhere. Big thanks for the efforts on external midi sync. All it really needs is a clock offset knob and it will be perfect. As is, it locks to external clock really well, no more drifting away... but it is ahead of the beat enough to be a problem. If I could dial in a fixed offset it would work perfect. V5.1.1 I take back my comments on midi sync for 5.1. It's still very unreliable. I wouldn't complain as much but SeekBeats is so good at external midi sync I just don't understand why dm1 can't nail it. V5.2 Wow, looks like they might have finally nailed the external midi sync issues. Still a little quirky but once it locks it's pretty awesome. Been waiting a long time for that. Just about perfect now!!! So fun to play it in sync along with Ableton, Maschine and run it through audiobus to Turnado!!! Cheers for not giving up on this crucial feature!

Really love this just hope you make it auv3 and work with midi. It has amazing sounds so not being auv I got it to think of it like hardware, but no midi sequencer has worked that I tried that has midi mapping for dm1. Even though it works for all the other midi mapping. Please update the app so it works with midi . Also If you made this auv it would truly become the most popular drum machine on iOS for many many people. Will update to. 5 stars once midi is fixed

Best drum machine app by far. I wish I had more time to write more but I must be brief, however, I can sum everything up by the following statement: this app is incredible.... The interface is fluid... This is the main difference between this and rival drum machine apps... The workflow goes so smoothly, I can write and sketch new patterns and sounds extremely easily, and quickly, and I feel completely at control with it. However I'm it strained because it is not hard to do whatever I want with this app. It's flexible and fluid. Also, the sound selection is great, very large, customizable, and sounds phenomenal And finally, this app is stable, bugs are rare to be found here.

Fantastic but.... I would like to see an update that would make it possible to have each pattern have its own separate tempo and FX because some times I want and FX in one pattern and not another. Sometimes I want to create a double bass line with the bass having a tempo of 200bpm but my cymbal and snare to have a tempo of 100bpm. But that's not the problem I can do that. But I don't want all my patterns to have a tempo of 200bpm. I'd also like to be able to change each sound in each pattern. So say I want make pattern 1 metal and pattern 2 dubstep I'd like to be able to use them both without affecting them both by changing the sounds. if an update comes to deal with these problems then I will gladly give a 5 star. :)

Intuitive but lacking total musical freedom. Ive been drumming for 12 years and write some pretty technical/ fast rhythms (modern progressive metal)! No time signature change or duple to triple meter change!? This is a must! I was thinking touch and hold the circular diode or metronome lights for a) mid-measure time signature change and or b) switch to triple meter for a triplet feel! Also 64th note subdivision would be awesome! This a a great app and has so much potential for a complete groove factory! Ps i kno you can adjust the time sig from 4/4 to say 3/4 but to be able to go back and forth between sigs is crucial for my 5 stars! Also the ability to add fx to only select patterns not just the whole song... And ability to change kit sounds independently within patterns that dont change for entire song... This would allow users to build any kit... Have any sound in any measure they want!!!

Rad! And getting better.... DM2 has been here on the AppStore for awhile and has steadily improved and built upon a simple but solid interface to become one of the must-haves for “padtronica”. Easy for a beginner to build something on-the-fly and have it sound decent, with enough features and inter-app communication options for it to be right at home with a traditional DAW and/or hardware. My one (or two) wish(es) would be for more individual drum sound-sculpting options like frequency filtering and EQing and maybe to inject some life into the FX section with more parameter control/different FX. But I can understand the reason behind not adding too many more options, as it is more than capable as-is and it’s restrictions are, in the end, what gives it it’s unique character.

What, a drum machine with no accidental deletes? Pfft. First time I can ever recall trying a new drum machine/beatbox and not walking away from the first session frustrated after spending a bunch of time, only to somehow accidentally deleting a part or a whole track (or dubbing over, etc) This is my favorite drum app on iOS by far. I’m a tad surprised I hadn’t found it before but I’m happy I found it now! Makes me feel like a fizzy soda

Owned since day 1 and DM1 has gotten better and better and better. Own on Mac and iOS one request is please PLEASE please add some marching percussion drum corps style samples! I would be forever grateful. I would pay $20 IAP for really great marching snare, tenors, and pitched bass drum kits. Also as long as you are at it improving/adding midi, IAA, audiobus, & AU features would be the Christmas wish list best ever presents. Thank you! 🙏

Best. Drum. Machine. App. But.... The Best out there now and my go-to drum sequencing, live pad drumming app! Although, needs a few things to be a PERFECT 5 (almost there, keep up the good work): Copy works for the most part, but we need direct export to GarageBand. But most of all, I would love to see a live kit setup (like GB drums or better yet, pocket drums type setup) for the drums and make them customizable, have automations, have the ability to swap drums under different factory presets (and then, of course comes user defined presets!). Maybe a different type of distortion effect? I don't like bitcrush/lofi, maybe just mild fuzz/overdrive? This isn't a huge deal, since i just use the compressor to take the "edge" out of the distortion. A fuzz type overdrive (as opposed to full on distortion with bitcrushing) would be ideal, but that is just a personal preference and not needed go make the app perfect, but i thought i would throw in my own person 2cents request. See: better, direct export options and and a customizable kit mode with option for simulated kit and then user presets for the important ones. Fix those Small flaws and this app is perfect! It is as simple as that. I know you will, in time.

“Stay tuned” ? 😮. I like the sound of that! AUv3?? We can only hope! Decided to take a look again. I really liked it way back in the beginning. Then things went awry. Looks like it’s back on track. The kits are great and it feels right again. I say get it! If it was AUv3 it would be better but since it’s so easy to export I’ll take it. Definitely back on the keeper list. FX section messed up. Seems like they fix one thing and break something else that was working. Oh well…can't recommend as it is now. With the new update AudioCopy works like it's supposed to. Export to DropBox still opens DFX. Not perfect but I'm OK with it I guess. I like it otherwise. I want to love DM1 however it does not export properly. I can record into AudioShare by using AudioBus but exporting just doesn't work. When I try to export to Dropbox it opens the DFX app... you get the picture. Hope they fix it soon. I don't suggest buying this until they do.

Unuseable - crashes in every instance of use.. i cant get it to load into audiobus in ipad pro gen 1. Fully updated. Audiobus 3. I open it in a lane on audiobus.. it crashes and says ‘tap to launch’ I keep trying, i reboot.. Same thing. Its become useless so im going to delete it and leave you with 3 stars. Those stars are for the artists who submitted their great sounds otherwise id go lower.

Why did you change it?. I use this app for teaching… Guitar and bass. It used to default to the last pattern I wrote, which was useful… now it always goes to this “song,” and I have to go through a few more steps and rewrite my pattern. By default distortion is turned on… I don’t know if it just doesn’t make sense.

So close!. The interface is great, it's very easy to lay out an entire song with multiple parts, time signatures, etc. So far my favorite drum machine app, but there's one issue that limits it for me: There's a problem with the processing that allows you to adjust the pitch of a sample - noticeable digital artifacts/noise are created with any adjustment away from zero making the sounds effectively unusable, unless you were looking for a bit crusher effect. It's most apparent on kicks and toms, which are both pretty crucial to be able to adjust! I would love to be able to get under the hood and sort through multiple samples for each drum machine a la Funkbox as well as be able to import my own. It would also be nice to have tracks for low, mid and high toms. But I love how the sequencing works.. Please sort out the pitch scaling!!

So Much Potential, NO Consistency. This app could be amazing and is when it works. I get 2 different sounds when playing through the iPad speakers but then when I plug in a, eighth inch jack to lay down a simple beat in a demo, it completely changes, half the sounds disappear, and the other half perform for a fraction of a second or become nearly muted. It worked really well for a week but now it won’t work while plugged in. If you wanna just tap out some beats and play around, great, but trying to record anything with this is a complete waste of time.

cant find a support email to write to. i have a few questions. i have dm1 on different devices, mac, iphone and ipad. can i automatically sync your user settings and saved samples and songs via icloud? why isnt icloud an option as a location to import samples from? why cant i find the user kits section on the iphone app?

Excellent Interface, great V1. This is by far my favorite drum machine on iOS to date. Fast & intuitive interface, nice feature set (the repeat-touch stripe is awesome), quick response and it sounds great. Definitely a buy at the current price. That said, there's a number of features that would make it even better. Audio & MIDI Copy/Paste is a MUST have. Once one can actually move these drum sounds to another app or DAW it becomes more than a toy. Other features that would be nice are FX per channel, sample import (or maybe even Kit pack downloads for purchase), and a synth-style drum interface page vs. just the sampled machines. Again, overall great - please purchase and support the great effort, but looking forward to some future updates to make it truly fantastic.

Buy an iPad for this!. Update: I still love this app. But as I've gotten more into playing the drum pads, I really want to be able to move them around. Bass and snare need to be in the lower left corner, as in imaschine. Some drum apps (not imaschine) let users move them around - this is perfect. I think there is a workaround in dm1 - I can create a user kit with the sounds reassigned - but this is clumsy. This is the best drum machine I've ever owned - I'd buy an iPad for this alone. It's very customizable. You can adjust the pitch and volume of each instance of each sample, and the effects are a lot of fun (robotizer's my favorite). Easy to learn to get started, and lots of depth for exploration. User kits mean you aren't limited to the built-in sounds - and there are many. To get more vintage drum machines, google the machine drum samples. And the Dropbox interface is super-slick. Also, you can combine pieces of kits by tapping on the sound in in mixer window (a recent reviewer missed this). Wish list: 1. One more vote for audiobus 2. A less limited way of combining kits - the current method allows for only one sound for each type - e.g. Kick. A suggestion - add some user assignable tracks. That should be an easy way of making it backward compatible, and more flexible. Thanks for this - you guys do great stuff.

What a waste of time and money. The acoustic sounds are totally useless. Only 9 sounds at a time? And no even two samples per sound. This is literally a toy and it's advertised as a professional tool. MIDI control doesn't work every time you open the app. You have to go to Song>MIDI and then it works, every single time. Labels on the pads are nonsense and useless.

Great drum machine. Excellent collection of kits and sound. Plus you can build your own kits. Lots of options for sequencing and patterns. Built in fox and mixer make it great for composing on the sly. It’s not perfect. Can’t get the midi to work, but could be user /developers error. Who knows. Exporting midi and audio has been no problem. Not sure if it would be a live tool, but it also supports ableton sync so my thoughts could change. Even with shortcomings, use it more than any of my instruments because it’s so handy for working out ideas and just jamming along with the grooves. For the price, definitely worth every cent.

The Single Greatest App Ever Made. That title is no understatement. I have used apps on apple products for years now, but this one takes the cake. With all the features you get with this app it's a steal at any price. I'm a singer/songwriter and for any songwriters out there you know the back bone of any song is a great beat and with this app the way to create the worlds next big hit beat is with you when ever inspiration strikes. I also use it to practice, on piano or drums its really shines when trying to play with new interesting rhythm your not use to. I really could talk all day about the countless ways one could use this app. But I won't, because I want you to stop reading this and just buy this app. It's friggin amazing.

I like it. I like this app. It’s got one flaw I’ve found. When creating new kits your audio share button Dose nothing at all. It will not Import a sample. iPad Pro 12.9 is what I use. Please fix

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for .... I have been evaluating drum machines for about two days now. I am a guitar player looking for a simple to use drum machine that sounds great. This is it. I saw many others that cost more, were more complex (and difficult) to use … saw some that wouldn't record? or even save a track? this one does … and it has 40 drum kits, special effects (phaser and texturizer among them) room for 9 simultanious percussion sounds … play live or set up a drum track and save (record) it for later. This one does it all AND it's easy to figure out and easy to play/program. All this for less than 10 bucks? Are you kidding me? This one' a no brainer if you are looking for a versatile, cheap, easy to drum machine. Easy 5 stars.

A must have!!!. Easily one the best app purchases I have ever made... Period.... Extremely easy to use and it comes LOADED with drum kits and samples, with NO need to buy more samples through in-app purchases... I repeat, you will NOT be hassled to buy anything in this app, it comes fully featured and ready to go... Crafting a beat is simple to do and can be very complex if you so desire... Any time I was unsure of a certain function, i simply pressed the "?" button and it was instantly explained... you also get access to the PDF file that contains the very thorough, in-depth manual... Recording in-app is pretty good, but if you prefer to use your own recording software like Ableton, ProTools or GarageBand, it can be easily done with an audio-out cable through the headphone jack... I was actually able to have it pass through a loop station and external interface before it got to my computer software, no problem... I can't stress enough, this app is worth every penny, a drum machine with this capability would cost you hundreds of dollars as a separate instrument.... if you are a musician, BUY IT NOW!

Awesome. I am a relatively new musician (guitar and singing) and was looking for something to keep me in time. Tried a couple different metronomes but couldn't stay dedicated. I had heard of drum machines but they were pricey... Then I thought "how about an app"? The Dm1 was one that was in most comparisons that I could find and always had favorable reviews. I couldn't be more pleased. I plug my iPad into my sound system and I have a drummer that is always in and on time. Like I said, I am new at this so may not be using the full functionality but after a quick read of the user manual, I can record the patterns, assemble them into a song and have it play. Now I just have to find some good beats to play along with as I don't know the first thing about drums ;)

Improper time signature. Currently using iPad 5th Gen latest software. I've used this app for a few years, and it's always been fairly reliable. However recently, I try to setup a 5/4, or 3/4 time signature. And it continually sets up in 4/4. Which makes mapping out the beat quickly, a rather pain and headache.

Thank you!!!. When I bought this app it would crash during start up. I wrote a review stating my issue. To my surprise the developer contacted me through email saying sorry about the issue and they are working on it. Never has any developer contacted me about anything before. That shows that they care about about their product and their customers. Today I got my update and the start up crash is fixed. Thank you!! I've only messed with the app a little so far but it's very impressive. Nice layout and a good amount of options. This is gonna be perfect for me. No other issues found so far either. Again, I want to say thank you to Fingerlab for being on top of their game and standing by their product.

Best Drum Machine App!. I got this app a while ago when I was looking for a good drum app, then shelved it for a while. After watching a video last night of someone in a studio using a drum machine to lay down the rhythm in a jam session, I loaded up the app to mess around. There's so much you can do! There's a good amount of sound presets, from vintage drum machines, dm's from specific eras, and even acoustical drums. There is a step process that lays out either four or eight measures in 16th notes, allowing you to program a unique rhythm. There's a mix tab where you can tweak each sound individually, or isolate certain channels (solos). You can build different rhythms per project (my last project used 15), and you can arrange them how you like in the song tab. You can even export your projects in wav format to Dropbox, Facebook, etc. I'm an experienced drummer - I play acoustical drums for a band that plays weekly - but I'm no pro when it comes to programming DMs. Still I had fun creating some loops, and they sound great enough that I'll probably use them as my smartphone's ringtones. Maybe one day I can incorporate some of my projects into the band. Overall, this is a great app! Worth checking out!

Simple to figure out, fun to use. Enjoying playing around. Good for creating video background tracks quickly.

Learning it...and frustrated.... I want to give this app a higher rating because it’s awesome in its concept, I’m having a few issues though. When running with audio bus I have to go to the IPad settings each time and turn the microphone off and back on for the app to “wake up”, and it reverts back to 110BPM and gets stuck there each time I transfer a beat to GarageBand..it has worked as advertised just once.. all available instructions are being followed

Takes me back. I used to own a TR-909 way back in the days before they were considered cool, and I also used a few other models of drum machines along the way. This app really takes me back to those days … except that back then the machines couldn't do 1/10th as many things as this app does. I was impressed to find quite a few capabilities buried in the app that weren't mentioned in any reviews I had seen, such as the ability to have a sound playing in reverse, double-tapping to make a specific step louder, and so on. By the way, the reviewer who was unhappy about the elimination of the comp filter was mistaken - it's still there, but the recent addition of more filters means that the list has to be scrolled to show them all, and the comp filter is at the bottom of that list. Also, it is easy to make time signatures other than 4/4 in the app by just clicking on any of the light "diodes" along the top of the steps grid to limit the number of steps in the pattern. All in all, I think I will enjoy this app a lot. When I think back to the premium price I paid for that TR-909, a measly five dollars to get everything this app can do seems nothing short of a miracle.

Crashes.. Was excited for update, but it keeps crashing as soon as the red bar finishes across the top of the screen when loading.

IOS8 Has ruined it.. The platform update has ruined DM1 and many other apps, all the sounds are distorted, can't use it.

Farkin brilliant. By far the best drum machine I have tried for IOS. Instant gratification, easy to get great loops happening quick, and sounds are great. cant wait for future updates for sample import and song export, also looking forward to a nice Filter FX and possibly Beat Repeat (in addition to the existing note repeat). Love it love it love it!

DM Heaven. So awesome. Highly intuitive and loads of fun. Some ridiculous sounds thrown in but hey, that's part of the sense of humour I think. Buy it - you won't be disappointed.

Dm1 goodness. Love this little! Great to fiddle with ideas, and descend voices. Keep up the good work!

The best drum machine. The best drum machine, i recording my heavy metal solomoroject with auria and this drum machine and sounds amazing. Thanks dm1 Se the resull at darklight corporation on facebook. Or search darklight corporation on itunes and check it out

Great Sequencer. DM1 is a powerful yet easy to use step sequencer that I personally find very useful in creating demo drums for tracks. The only complaint is it's a rather painstaking process to assemble your own kit, and the lack of properly defined tom sounds - most rock kits have only one, generally the floor tom. That small niggle aside, I highly recommend it.

Yep it's weird. Pads are incorrectly labelled. V frustrating. Go to hit a cow bell, it's a ride cymbal. Seriously how hard would it be to get the pad labels lined up with the actual sound? $9 wasted. Off to find an sequencer app where the developer wasn't drunk when they assigned the pads.

Great sounding fun to use drum machine. Not only is this app very fun to use, it also sounds GREAT. The best thing about the app is the intuitive interface, which is very fun to use. It gives you a sixteen step grid sequencer, which can be viewed like a Monome (with a whole screen of steps, 16 for each drum) or like an Electron Machinedrum (with sixteen steps and you select which drum you want to edit). There is also an MPC style pads view for live playing, which can also be recorded or overdubbed. You can also arrange patterns into a song, and add effects. The selection of different drum kits is large and they all sound impressive. There's lots of 808s and 909s, as well as some other retro drum machines and some more experimental sounds too. Please note that you cannot export your audio as a WAV or AIFF file, nor can you upload to Soundcloud or import your own samples. Adding these three features would make the app perfect in my opinion. Also, the effects are good but not great. For the money though, this is a fantastic app that is fun to use, sounds great, and will give you hours of entertainment. Well worth investing in. I strongly recommend it.

Fantastic!!. Very easy to use, despite the huge depth of editing. super!!

THIS IS THE BEST APP EVER. I can not even begin to tell you how much fun I have had on this app. It is every beat maker/producers dream to have this amazing app of wonderland magic. Not only can you load in your own kit, but I AM STILL LOSING MY MIND IN THE MASSIVE LIST OF VINTAGE CLASSIC DRUM MACHINES. Loads of effects, great export feature, godly drum machines and kits [that includes acoustic kits, instrument kits and electronic + old school kits (not including the drum machines)] overall, my favourite app that I use EVERYDAY. A superb job!!!!

Niiiiice. Yeah it's good

Nice.... its a great app that is fun to use, but i would love to see it being brought to an iphone platform

Excellent. Better tank funk box if you are trying to decide which to but

Something is missing. Don't get me wrong. This is an absolutely great app. It just needs a few more things to bring it up to that 5 start rating. First off, being able to load and record your own samples into the app would be f'n brilliant. And second. Live recording during live mixing of sequencers. Last but not least. Being able to use more then one sample set in a track ( layering ) would make this the best sequencer app of its kind. Then the 5 stars will come rolling in. Keep it up.

This is good, but.... Adding to the previous reviews that have wished for recording of the kaoss pads, etc. One thing that I hope is fixed with an upcoming update is renaming of the instrument/pads according to the kit you're using. Not many of them use the default layout, and it'd be good to see at a glance what each kit actually contains. Otherwise, this is a fun, and economical drum machine - one of the best on the iPad.

Something has gone wrong. Something has gone wrong with this app. It used to be great but now it doesn’t seem to hold saved drum patterns which is embarrassing in the middle of a show. Fix this right away as I recall paying for this app.

Love it. I'm using this to lay down drum patterns to play my guitar to. Quick, powerful, easy and portable. Fabulous!

Best groove generator in the App Store. Great app that keeps getting better.

Love it.. It's easy to spend hours playing around with this. So much fun. I can't find many instructions anywhere, but it's been half the fun working it all out. Some people would get an iPad just for this app. It's brilliant.

Good, on the occasion that it feels like working.. DM1 can actually be a fairly enjoyable app especially if you are like me, in that you frequently find yourself tapping out rhythm's on your desk and wondered what they would sound like id you had a drum kit handy. If I could sum it up, I would say that it is great fun when it works, but it works so infrequently that it is not worth the asking price... Or the bytes of storage it occupies. The problem is that this program is bugged. Every so often, and for no reason at all the pitch on every instrument is altered and you cant do a single thing to correct it. Uninstall the app and the. Re install? Nope. Adjust the pitch manually? Not a chance... This is such a silly bug, but it is a show stopping one and that is a shame, because when this app works its a great little time waster. However the occasions that it works are interrupted by long, long, incredibly long bouts of it being broken and on those occasions it is a waste of time and money.

Fantastic app. I have only been using the app for almost a day and I'm loving it. Creating beats has never been easier or more fun. You also have some pretty cool percussion and mallet instruments if you ever wanted to try some thing new.

Can't get much better. Definitely one of the best drum machines on iOS. Flexible time signatures, loads of sounds, custom kits, velocity programming, MIDI and Audiobus support, copy/paste, fx, mixer – it's fantastic at what it does. Of course there is always room for improvement. The ability to add triplets and double strokes etc., and a couple more sample slots would take it to the next level and make it unbeatable. Even so, it's a fantastic app that deserves a place on most musicians' iPads.

Beautifully crafted. A beautiful app that offers simplicity and depth. If only it allowed for layering multiple tracks. Latest update allows for audiobus support??? Officially changing my review! Way to keep the masses happy! Keep up the awesome work.

Awesome drum machine app!!!. This is an awesome drum machine app!! I have used it within my songs in recording and it sounds awesome and runs perfectly. I recommend this app to all those who are looking for a drum machine app. Please add the Roland TR 505 drum sounds in next pleaseeeee <333333333333333

Amazing!. So easy to use, got a great choice of synths available, song builder is smooth. Effects rock too. Nice work!

Potentially amazing!. This app is no doubt already amazing, but needs just a few more tweaks to really get it going! In my opinion, it needs : 1 - The ability to save your own drum machine presets. 2 - The ability to record your own sounds and sequence them, just like you would with the included sounds (not that there is any lack of included sounds!) 3 - The ability to record things such as volume, pitch, and very importantly, the (kaos) pads!

Great. Really easy to use, nice and in depth as far as choices and sound tweaking goes. Beautiful stuff, don't hesitate to buy it if your looking for a good bit of beat making.

High quality. Audiobus, great UI, extensive sets, what more could you want?

Dig the dm1. Enjoying the dm1! For the price its great. Would love to sample my own custom kits and have send fx. The layout is brilliant, credit to the designer!

Latest Update Killed My Saved Songs!. The latest update has completely ruined my saved songs! Dev, revert back to the previous version, this one is buggy as hell!

Truly perfect. Well done on a great app. Every time I use this I find more versatility and strength in its features.

Lost all saved patterns on new update 👎👎👎. Updated due to iPad 2 audiobus crashing issue. After updating, have lost all previous patterns and replaced with random ones I have not created. That's a damn shame Margaret 👎

!!!!!. Great app but since the new update I haven't been able to use the inter-app audio with garage band. It's just says "app not available" if you could fix this with an update that would be great, as I love using the inter-app audio feature!

Superb. So many sounds! So easy to play - it's also an incredibly stable app! An excellent music writing tool

Nearly there. Good, but really needs choke groups (at least 1 for hats) and the ability to program triplets. Only thing stopping it from being perfect.

Review. It's great

Great product. Very usable

Electronic drum kit for less than $10 :). How cool is this software? I have used this to hook up my Playstation 2 drum kit via its midi out port, through a midi interface into the iPad and then mapped the pads using the midi learn function in DM1. Saved me hundreds $ on a 'real' electronic kit. No latency issues either. Now my son can practice without upsetting the neighbors. The kits available for use are fantastic. My only (small) complaint is trying to adjust the mixer knobs - sliders would be easier? It took me a few minutes to figure out how to use the midi learn function too. But it works sweet.

Useless. This was a great drum machine but since it's recent update it won't work in conjunction with any other apps which makes it useless. If you have a lil bit too much memory on your device, like collecting icons on your home screen or just wanna waste $10 then go for it but other than those uses its no good.

Got you covered. Out of all the drum samplers and apps I've purchased and used, This app covers nearly everything. this is my most preferred due to its versatility, in terms of sequencing drums, recording or jamming live.. But also for its mixer and fx features. It's delays and verbs aren't the best but they can be tweaked for greater impact. The range of sounds and kits are awesome, even moreso that they don't demand in-app purchases! The swing features are pretty mean too, but all good drum apps should have this! It's compatibility with audiobus is a massive advantage overall, especially for users who want to track their drums into other projects which would be most of us, and the fact the play button drops your beats instantly and is not delayed like other apps, this is essential when tracking into other software/projects. Awesome product on the whole, would def recommend all round! Only suggestion for improvement would be for more options for timing signatures (double time/semiquavers) and extra kits/instruments.. Thanks finger lab!

Very awesome.. Easy to learn and use, and everything from the user interface, sound quality and stability is great.

No. Great app.

Top notch. Excellent drum machine. SImple to use with varied sound sets and great controls. Even my 3 year old daughter can use it :)

iPhone version, please!. Great sound. Rhythmically versatile. I'd love to have the step sequencer in an iPhone version!

Recording?. Everything is great but not be able to record your mixes makes this App pointless...

retina is back. Cheers Fingerlab — love your work!

Fun. It is just great fun & although only just starting to play with it, so much more possibility to come.

Great!. Lots of different sounds and a great range of kits! From retro to future. Awesome app! Once you can set different kits or fife rent patterns this will be unstoppable!

Great!. Great fun to use, lots of great sounds, very useful, very easy to use great accessibility for exporting.

Great UI, great kits, great beats.. Thx for the sick app, I tried a bunch of drum machine apps for making electronic beats and this is easily my fave!

Best drum machine app in the App Store. I tried all of the drum machine apps out there and this is the best. If I can get it to work with a midi pedal or USB pedal to start and stop I will be getting rid of my classic drum machine on stage. I would highly recommend it if you are performing or or just playing around.

After so many years.... I still use it and it is the best drum machine in the App store. It looks great, sounds great, very stable. Just a classic piece.

Awesome!. I love it! You can use it for anything, even metal!

Bpm manual dial please. I really enjoy the app overall. I use it mostly for practicing. I love those drum sounds and the intuitive layout. Things to improve : 1) Make the bpm adjustable with manual dial. The slider is quite imprecise and not suitable at all for professional use, neither for amateur. 2) Please make it possible to adjust the velocity of each step of an instrument. Having 3 to 5 level of dynamics per note, for a start, would be a good improvement. 3) I'd love to have the tempo saved per pattern instead of per whole song. Often time the different parts of a song can change tempo, sometimes even just slightly, but it makes a huge difference.

Amazing. I do not understand how an app this complete and polished can be free! It's amazing!

Treble !. I just purchase the acoustic drums pack, they are all almost the same with just changing the pitches and some touches in their effects.

Great app. Awesome app. They are making this app a competition for 2013

Awesome app. Almost 5 stars, needs some more midi options to sync with my other apps. Take a look at midi options in funk box

Fun to use. This is a fun to use and quite tactile. Good value for the money. Lots of different voices to choose from, and many ways to modify them.

Way more than you might expect!. Great drum machine....easy to program and use, but the best part are the kits, everything from classic machines to latin instruments to gunshot sets! Great job guys.

One of my favorites. From day 1, excellent. Thank you for all the hard work. Excellent update

Great. Tons of great kits and sounds. Easy to use. Would like to see a note repeat function to be able to make 8th note triplets on hi hats, for example, similar to the beat sequencer in GarageBand.

Nice. A fantastic free app that really performs.

The Best In Its Class!. The designers keep the updates fairly regular so they're on top of it and they obviously care for their product. They're always adding drums, sounds and other instruments which sound pretty good for a step editing iOS app. Other step editing apps are honestly not as good. It's quick and easy to use and fairly flexible across a range of musical ideas to get beats going and pasted to other apps in no time.

5Stars. Solid app.

Non progressive. I'm surprised the tempo can't vary in one song. This eliminates the progressive styles I had in mind. For instance playing 80bpm in one bar and 110bpm in another.

Very useful for composers. Wow, I finally managed to find a free quality drum machine which includes classics such as the 808, 909, 606 and many, many, many, many other kits, both electronic music inclined and acoustically organic. This app is very well-done as well as eye candy. It feels professional as a whole, with its many little sound tweaking options. You can compose full "songs" using only the app but I prefer to use it to compose beat and rhythm and then export those as .wav files using DropBox, from my iPad to my Macbook. That way, I can constantly import new beat experiments that I made on the fly, wherever I was located, into my DAW's library of loops. This gives a new kind of freedom to composers out there. A massive thank you to the developers!

Great app. Great app for anyone who wants to make some cool drum beats and songs.

Missing only a few things.... This is app is great, works fine, easy to use, and the selection for drum machines to use. The only thing is, it's missing the TR-505, 707, and 727! Also a few others, but these are the main ones. They need to add these, making it the best drum app, that's the only bad thing about it. Other than that some effects are a little off-sounding, but it comes close enough. Just those drum machines, plus maybe some Linn ones or other classics, and replace them with the sound effects like "weapon" and "water", which, in my opinion, are pointless. I can't be the only one yearning for those drums, right?

Great stuff! Although.... Best by far. All other drum machines are false-metal.

Love the app but not this update. Crashes a lot and the metronome is completely broken, what?

Import/export issues. The import option doesn't work AT ALL on my iPad mini. I can't open it from email or the Dropbox. So annoying and it completely ruins the momentum of music writing. Please please please fix this. No reason it shouldn't be working

The best!. Honestly, my fav drum machine on iPad!! Nothing comes close. I love it!!! Made so many awesome drum beats. Thank you :)

Easy Peasy and rich with features. I’ve been frustrated to find an inexpensive simple to use drum beats product till I found DM1. Within 20 minutes, I customized a beat pattern for multiple songs, learned how to select a song to load, change the tone of the beat using a different kit. I’ll connect my iPad to my battery powered portable amp and I’m in business to go busking or lead my jam sessions.

Blue Tooth Foot Controller. I have been trying to connect a blue tooth foot controller, To the DM1. An, Air Turn, BT-200 S2. With no luck at all! I seem to have no difficulty connecting the BT-200 To the iPad, Bluetooth. But there seems to be no information, on what settings are required for the DM1? I sure wish I could find a way to contact FingerLab, For assistance?

Great musician tool!. Awesome app! I have been using it to make songs. Just make a pattern hit play and jam away. Plenty of kits to choose from and very customizable. The sync could use some work though I tried to use wist to sync it to my korg app on another device and there were some latency issues after a few mesures. Still a powerful drum app, with a pretty interface.

Great app. Really awesome app. Best free drum machine I've used. The only thing I would like is the ability to change the tempo for individual patterns within a song.

Amazing. I have used this app for over a year, and all I can say is that it's awesome. It has a great selection of drum machines (such as Roland's TR 606, 808, and 909) and other rhythm contraptions that will give you literally hundreds of hours of play time. Unlike many other beat creation apps out there, DM1 is incredibly easy to use and has unlimited possibilities of what you can create. You can also upload samples and use the effects channels to go absolutely crazy. This is definitely a 5 out of 5 app. Probably the best 5 bucks you can spend anyware. The only downside is that it can occasionally crash if things get too hectic.

Badass except.... This app rules. Only two things could be improved. 1) ability to import your own sounds into the pads and 2) solo and mute buttons on the mixer. Double tapping to mute makes a weird effect, especially if you're using it live.

Not working. Not working on my iPad 2 ... Too bad it's seems like a nice app :-(

Really nice. Love this one, lots of fun and easy to learn and use. Three things I'd like to see. One and two could related - I'd like to be able to put in a count-in bar at the beginning of the song. Related, I'd like to be able to set loop points and number of loops, so that, for example, pattern 1 would play once (taking care of the count-in), patterns 2, 3 and 4 would play 4 times, pattern 5 once, patterns 6, 7, 8 4 times, pattern 9 once and then loop back to pattern 2. MIDI output for triggering other sounds would be nice

Great drum machine!. Fun, musically useful and deeper than it seems at first glance. The ability to change pattern length and have different length patterns in the same song is a nice touch that is often overlooked in other music apps. Also, love the live-messing-around potential of the effects pads and switching up patterns on the fly.

Great drum machine app. Had some initial challenges with a crash in an earlier version, but that’s all cleared up. Well designed and implemented drum machine app.

This app rocks!!!. Its not easy to use but thats because you have total control over every parameter, and it IS Intuitive. Sounds are wicked and is rock solid. Price is dirt cheap and it is EXACTLY what i have been looking for!!

Best drum machine that I have tried. First it is fun, lots of different patches/kits. I like making a pattern & then testing out the different kits. I have tried a few other drum machine apps and this is the best that I have come across, sound wise and ease of use. Keep up the great work! I hadn't played with DM-1 in awhile and forgot that it sounds so great and it brought a smile to my face - wow - great app!

Great When It Works. This is the best app I've ever downloaded... when it works. My main problem is the long month or two month gaps where it is unusable because it crashes or the effects are way off and ruin any songs you may be working on.

DM1. This app is a bargain great for mixing tunes 100 different instruments & keyboards... You can make short samples or full on songs. Easiest way to make a short sample start with the pads toggle REC on & off after every beat you add move to mixer after add affects takes less then 2 minutes to make a short 8-16 step sample. Big time kudos to the developers!!!

Greedy company, app nothing special. WARNING, RIP OFF ALERT! I cannot believe these guys want us to purchase this app twice for our ipad and iPhone. It's the same darn app on iphone and ipad so this is just greed plain and simple. As far as the app goes its nothin special at all. The pads are not even touch sensitive and the samples are low grade so it's basically just a toy. I recommend IGOG. IGOG is light years beyond it for drums but is for real musicians who can already keep a beat. But, If you have little or no music ability and just want to keep time and the sounds don't really matter then this app will do it for you, but nothing more.

Nice try, want my money back. Good interface but who are you kidding with the TR 808.? The kick is awful, no matter how much you try to tweak it it sounds nothing like an 808 kick. I am very disappointed.

Not working with iOS 8. Not compatible with iOS 8....can't even launch

Free?!. It blows my mind that this app is free. It's so completely robust and polished it rivals some $30 (looking at you KORG) apps I've purchased. At free it's a must have for any audio enthusiast. Download now!

Won't open. Always crashes on startup. I love the Mac version dearly and would love to have this working.

This is darned good!!. One of the best drum apps I’ve played with

Back to life. Works in iOS 8 after last update. It's working with AudioBus again too (AudioBus says "error" on the icon, but I just tested and confirmed I could record DM1's output in GarageBand).

Love the interface. Not to mention the sounds and patterns you can make are excellent.

Top Notch. Excellent design and set of features, my number one app for pattern based loops.

What happened to midi!!. I have owned this app forever. It was my favorite go to drum app. Hands down! All the others take much longer to lay out a beat or are glitchy and all over the place ( beat hawk). Anyways I have zero midi options available now. Not even network anymore. I own a ton of apps and dm1 doesn't recognize one. It's been like this for a while but no one has returned my email. Very frustrating. I have an ipad 4 can run 3 or 4 apps at once (music ) but not even use this. Disappointed.

can’t import samples from audio share. Title says it all. Impossible to import drum samples from my library into app.

Do not update. The last update causes mine not to function. Was fine previously.

Too beautiful not to have retina support!. I'm really enjoying this app. It is absolutely gorgeous, and I hope the devs update it to support the retina display. Then it would be drool-worthy. One of the challenges of this app for me is fighting the desire to want to multitrack different kits. I find myself feeling limited - but I'm realizing that the limitations are going to force me to do more with less. I really do wish you could record on-the-fly effects and mixer manipulations, though. That would be awesome.

Updated, developer listened and fixed bug!. ****update**** Jan 25th 2014. I emailed the developer about the audio copy and paste bug with custom kits. They returned my email and said they would fix it. Only a couple of weeks later it's fixed! Thanks for the great support! ****************** Dm1 is probably one of the best drum machine app on the ipad. It's broken though and has been for a long time. I like to make my own kits but it's difficult with audio copy/paste being broken. No matter where you try to past a sound it always replaces the first sound only. Since there is no sample preview either, it's next to impossible to make your own kit. Also in order to get it to midi sync properly you have to use a third party app because you can send midi to the dm1 port directly. When the developer decides to some day fix the audio copy paste issue, I'll increase my rating but people should know the truth.

Excellent. We used this live for a talent show performance of Florence and the Machine's "Heavy in your Arms". The set up was perfect, only thing missing was a deep, low bass drum. We found one on the internet and put it on the app in a manner of about five minutes. Easy to use, but with so much potential. Is currently the drummer of my personal projects. Very dependable, and keeps getting better.

This little app is awesome. Really can't think of a better way to spend $3. It's 86 drum kits, including so many classic / vintage machines. And it's sound is so tweak able, the live effects are so much fun. I ported it to GarageBand w/ AudioBus and it worked really nicely. Would be better if pressing record on GB automatically started DM1 like physical / hardware / midi based devices would do, but that's probably an issue w/ AudioBus. Anyway, buy it.

Dig it..... I'm not a hardcore beat producer, but I do work at two studios and create my own tracks. I dig this app for a few reasons.... Ease of use, variety of sounds, cool graphical layout, and good tweakability. I also have iMashine, and the two are very different animals. DM1 has a LOT of retro samples. I find myself digging the demos, and I'm not really into "beat making", and my creativity is stoked. For the price, this is a great app.

My New Drummer. This is a phenomenal machine! I was about to buy a drum machine from eBay for $300+ when I came across this app and decided to give it a try. This is literally the new drummer in my Country band. It is easy to use - and offers and insane number of possible kits and sounds. I create the tracks then export to Audio Share - which allows me to create a file of all our songs. One suggestion would be to make it so that created tracks are stored in alphabetical order. Also - create a similar app for creating bass lines!

Great app. This is a great app for the money! Everyone is amazed at the versatility and ease of use for the price of this app. I have been using it for most of the songs our band perform and I love that I can easily save the tracks I create and pull them up for use quickly. There are still some features I have not tried yet such as exporting and importing files but I am looking forward to exploring those features. I have been promoting this app to other musicians, as this app went beyond my expectations for it!

Awesomely cool app. I've never been one for drum machines however, this app, I've spent hours just toying around with different beats and it's very cool. App is very intuitive so you don't need any "formal" experience per se. This app is both a great waste of time (in a good sense) as well as entertaining for music lovers. And the fact it's free is even cooler. Great job on this app. Hopefully future updates for this will include different styles/sounds to choose from.

Best ipad drum machine hands down. This is the sickest drum machine for ipad first of all and now for some reason it's free now, which is great so get it now because I'm sure the price will be added back soon. This blows funk box away as far as the sounds and control unless you love really old drum machines which dm1's got those too. I haven't got into the midi part of the dm1 to much yet but so far I love it and don't think you can beat it, especially for the price!

Amazing features & sounds for the money.. I got lucky and stumbled onto this app when it first came out and was offered for free as a promo. I wasn't expecting much, but I was sincerely blown away. The sample patches that are included are incredible and the effects options are endless. Add to that the export ability and you have yourself a really good time. DM1 is easily worth every penny…if you do any studio work or programming its a powerful and feature-rich tool for your arsenal.

First time reviewer. This is the first time i write review after couple years with apple products. This app is phenomenal! The dropbox compatibility, bouncing loops, awesome sounding swing, and randomization are my favorites. In my opinion this app would have 6 stars if it had 3 more features. 1. 16 pads because 9 is enough only for basic sounds (even banks would be nice) 2. Separated track for a bass sound with possibility to pitch up and down individual samples by an octave. 3. 32 steps per bar and 4 bars loop playback for super fast elements/ sounds

Da Drum Machine. Ya know how you first get your iPad and start downloading everything you can find for drum sequencers only to go back and start deleting the ones that aren't that hot? Well, you won't be deleting this one! It's set up to be so quick and intuitive you won't believe how long you survived without it. Great sound and best of all, the more you dig into it the more it continues to give you back. Wether you like step or free pad programming, it's got you covered from playing, editing to finished production. If you're serious about your productions and just are totally in luv with iPad's portability, you're going to luv this! POW-ER-FUL!

Great overall... Except.... This is an amazing app!! The amount of different kits you can use and the amount of effects is great. I'm no pro at making music. But I know enough to say this is good enough for mobile music production. The only thing missing is 32nd and 64th notes. If there is a way to implement this into songs, I can't figure it out. So if it is already included in the application, a more clear and obvious way to implement it would be nice. GREAT APP!! Yay for Audiobus!!

My Favorite Drum Machine. After having this app for almost a year now, I can tell you with no doubt that it is the best drum app currently in the app store. Yes, iMPC and iMaschine are there too, but workflow wise, I think DM1 is best. The DM1is a very versatile drum system with plenty of kits. The ability to make your own kits using your own files is great. The effects are plenty and super useful, plus all the capabilities that you expect are here (ACP, Audiobus). Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with this app because of its ease of use, samples, versatility and fun to use. Thanks!

Great Music App. The Fingerlab DM1 packs a lot of flexibility into an inexpensive package. However getting to know the mixer section is key to understanding the app. Before I realized this, I thought the DM1 was rather limited--one tom per kit, one cymbal, one kick drum. However by manipulating the level, length, and the all-important pitch controls, you have enough flexibility here to make almost anyone happy. And the sounds are awesome.

updated review. things missing: - better midi implementation (clock sync, midi control of FX/other parameters, maybe a MIDI out so you can make basslines and send them to synths?) MIDI clock sync is really the only thing keeping me with funkbox for the moment. the interface of dm1 is leaps and bounds better than funkbox, so much more is available at once and never buried below menus or small, oddly-placed buttons.

Good sounds, but hats don't choke. This app has a lot of good sounds and a well-thought-out interface. But the open high-hat will still ring out after you hit the closed high-hat. It sounds trivial, but letting the sound build up like that can make a dense pattern sound mushy instead of crisp. I could understand this in a version 1 product, but not in version 4. It doesn't ruin the app by any means -- there's too much to like for that -- but it keeps it in the second tier of iOS drum apps.

Buggy update. This latest version does not seem to be able to properly read the data from existing projects. Patterns are missing, and song arrangements are broken (every cell in the timeline is Pattern 2). There are also issues with the Load menu becoming unresponsive, and eventually going entirely blank, requiring a kill/restart. After downgrading to the previous version, everything worked as before-- no project data was actually corrupted. I had identical issues with the iPhone version, hopefully this release was an oversight and can quickly be fixed.

Simply amazing!!!. As a drummer, this is an amazing tool! Create fresh new beats easily and then practice them on the real kit. You can slow the beats down to learn them, mute or solo instruments to hear things more clearly, etc. The interface, sounds, kits, everything is top notch! This is how apps should be made. Please, please, please expand to add at least bass in the sequencer section! I can imagine this turning into an amazing midi type sequencer... A gem for composers! Thanks again for making an amazing app... LOVING IT!!! Matt

Great drum machine, troubled update. This app is rad. I got it after I just couldn't stand the sound of my other drum machines anymore. Having some issues sense the iOS 8 update. Won't save my patterns or any settings in the mixer. Opens with effects on and levels all screwy. I would totally recommend this but I would wait til all the updates are fixed.

THIS is the drum machine I've been looking for. Works great, and best of all it's INTUITIVE. The last thing I want is to refer to a manual (or wish there was a manual) when I'm working on a song. This app stays out of your way when you need it to, and the help toggle is genius. Minor wish list for the future would include triplets or a way to turn off quantization, and export to DropBox and iCloud. But really, this is great as it is.

Very fine app!. I purchased this app while studying Ed Friedland's book "Bass Grooves" which places a lot of emphasis on the subtleties of the bass and drum interaction. It was written before we had apps, but all the discussion about programming drum machines are all applicable here. The variety of sounds, the level of beat subdivision, the intuitive navigation--it's a vert well thought design, and it sounds great through a decent monitor setup. Totally worth the very small investment.

Amazing!. This drum machine is amazing! I can't stop making beats! It's very intuitive and well designed, the sounds are incredible and inspiring. I'm a guitar player and wanted something I could make drum patterns on and this far exceeds what I had hoped for. Really easy to put into song patterns. This is SO worth the money for how powerful it is! The sounds alone are inspiring new songs - Thank you!

Stylish is as Fingerlab does. Update: Chances are the dropped MIDI notes are not from DM1's side but from the sequencer. Enjoy that well-deserved 5th star, my bad. DM1 looks, sounds, and feels great, can't argue with that. I'm still boggled at the number of kits the app includes by this point. Thankfully there is some MIDI support now, but I still seem to get dropped notes when sequencing less than 1/2 notes from Genome. Don't rule out user error, but it does mean I need to use Audio Copy/Paste a lot more than any MIDI control right now.

Almost Perfect. The DM1 is the best drum machine app I've seen so far! I prefer it to my electribe. The samples from vintage machines (minipops! Wurlitzer!) are perfect, and the multiple interface screens play very well together. I just recently discovered the sonic mix and match capabilities on the mixer page with tons of bonus samples including a hang drum! The only things I would request in an update would be audio bus support, a count in feature when recording from the pads, and triplets... Triplets are really needed! Other than that, totally worth the money!!! Buy it now!

Love It!. My new favorite drum application. The interface is ridiculously easy to use, the drum sounds are adjustable (but not so much that you lose an hour fiddling away with settings) and if you're not into that, there's a good selection of presets that can be mixed and matched with each other. The only one thing I could ever hope for is that the app gets upgraded so that you can export the data in a midi file, rather than just as wave sound.

Punchy. Most apps in my experience are mere toys posing as pro gear. However, this app is one of the rare few that rocks, is built like a brick s@&$) and sounds big and serious. It is rock solid in performance, sound and quality. All the drums are punchy and tight. I wish some of the so-called leaders in the field of app production would take a lesson from the maker of this great little machine! My only suggestion is PLEASE add Audiobus. No app, no matter how good should be an island onto itself!

Why I Love DM1. Drum-related apps come (and go) in iOS-ville and there are many amazing ones to be had. After all these years DM1 remains a top-tier go-to for me and here's why: the UI is beautifully clean and clear which keeps the workflow fluid and fast. After a small-if-at-all learning curve your fingers will be flying around the app instead of wrestling with the interface. DM1 also Sounds amazing: the samples and variety of those samples is all fun and fantastic. Lastly: the ability to export individual tracks (iPad version) of a beat = indispensable and completes the package for a fully 5-star app.

Great drum machine. I have played many drum machine apps, I like this one the best. It is simple and straight forward but with a lot of options. Every thing is easily accessible and well integrated to make it easy to take advantage of all of its features. Midi connections are simple and work well with other apps and wifi connections. MOST IMPORTANTLY, it's sounds great! Could use a few more cymbal options in opinion, but otherwise it sounds great.

Three Update Crashes. Despite the title, I LOVE DM1. It's my go to for substantial rhythms and adds a level of integrity for my tracks. I've been recently frustrated because of the iPad 2 fixes that ended up failing. Please fix! I'm in need of beats for my tunes! I will add the fifth star when this is done. Thanks for a great music app. Update: as of April 30, 2015 - The app is up and running! 5 STARS! 2017 and this app performs like a dream. Only thing is the new kits should have samples to know if we want to buy them or not. Thanks for a sweet rhythm app.

Really good so far. Sounds good, easy to use. Works like a physical drum machine, I'm pleased. Looking forward to importing my own samples, WIST etc. in the updates. A couple ideas to really make the app something special: -When importing samples, the ability to name samples/triggers. Kick 2, Snare 2, Ride, Bell etc. -Adjustable flam for the snare samples. Being able to select beats for the flam (on/off) would be even better. -3 volume levels per sound: ghost note, normal, accent.

Perhaps the best software drum machine available. Years of frustration with Cubase products left me burnt out. I began learning Ableton and was impressed, but not enough to break a year long block. That changed with the gift of a mini and the purchase of this app, iKaossilator, and several other Korg apps as well as apps from others. DM1 has the largest and best selection of kits I've seen thus far. It integrates perfectly with my iRig midi and is easy to use. It's the program I open first when creating.

Intuitive. Having tested software for 7+ years... Having been on Ableton and Mixcraft's beta teams, I think I can guess reliably that Finger Labs puts quite a bit of constructive thought into making intuitive software designed specifically for ipad usage. And all that makes it fun for us. I hope they keep it up, because even without reading the manual, I had little "aha!" moments just fumbling around.

Great design and UI. Overall a great app, especially for a v1.0 release. I was immediately impressed by the stability and responsiveness of the pads on an iPad 2 - noticeably better than some other drum machine apps I've tried. UI design and layout is excellent; I was able to get results quickly without having to consult the help text. There's also a nice selection of kits to choose from. My one feature request is for MIDI output via Network / CoreMIDI, so that I can use this to trigger Battery and other drum VIs on the host.

Very we'll done.. This app is great. It never crashes, which is really nice. The sounds are all very good and the more you use this, the deeper it gets. You can dive right in and start, but there's a lot here to discover. A piano roll editor would be nice, but that might be beyond what the developers are trying to do. It doesn't matter, the app is fine the way it is. Audio us works like a charm, so buy this and have fun!

Needs Basics. This app is weird...it has all these features, but then it flubs the basics. Who puts the kick drum to the right of the snare drum on a pad layout ? And the closed hat to the right of the open hat? And why separate the open and closed hat so they are on opposite sides of the pad layout (!!?!) Why isn't the kick drum the very first pad? I have to turn my ipad upside down so that it at least partially resembles the pad layout of every other machine ever made, including the order they would be on a Midi keyboard. The distance between the open and closed hat doesn't matter anyway since they can't choke each other. I have to cross my hands to do a basic boom-chick pattern...this is pretty bizarre.

Great tool. I had DM1 on an old iPod and I had to get it for my new iPad. I liked it before, but I love it now with the bigger screen. So easy to use and sounds great. It has many export options and everything just works. My only request would be that the randomize function would randomize actual drum placement steps and not just the effects. Other than that, it's great!

Exporting still a problem. While the latest updates have not been perfect this app has a good track record with updating and bug fixes. The release of the DFX app may be partly to blame, but get that one anyway. I expect these issues will be fixed and relatively soon. The lack of exporting does sting since the one track pattern sequencer does not really measure up if you are used to working loops through different apps. This is still a solid drum sequencer but it does have intrinsic limitations and the current crash when attempting an export to audiopaste will see this one benched for the time being.

Stop whining, people!. DM1 does indeed have problems with iOS 8. A lot of music apps are having issues that will be fixed. Frustrating? Yes. Worth bashing the App developers and dropping ratings? HELL, NO!!! FingerLab was quick to get their update out. No doubt that they will fix the issues. This iOS update has been the roughest update I have ever witnessed on iOS. Apple changed the audio, I was told. So we will just have to deal with that. It will sort out. My rating of 5 stars stands. I await the fix.

Love The App!!! Just a few changes. This is a great App. The improvements really let me know that you all want the best app possible because you listen to us. I just wish we could export the actual file into a Dropbox (or equivalent) and be able to pull them up at will so that we could free up some space on the actual app. Also a SEARCH option would be nice in the LOAD section. Lastly and probably most importantly, maybe I don't understand how to freely TAP a tempo, but what I tap, and what plays are two diff tempos. I am the Band Director for my church and I use this to run loops for our band. Main keys, organ, lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and percussion. Love the expansions. Love the app!

Wow, creative juices in full overdrive. I do not have any music app on my ipad, but always have had a hobby of musicianship that is an itch i almost never get to scratch. Get this app, especially if you just need something to get those creative juices going or need to be musical in some way or form. The program is as simple or as complex as you want it to be. So dive in or just make drum beats to tool around with, whatever your need this app is a lot of fun and i cant put it down! Well worth the money.

Great app!. I've easily put 10+ hours into this app. Lots of great drum samples, both acoustic and electronic. Even has good synth samples. I use this app for drum tracks when recording demos because it's easier to navigate than the drum sequencer on my $400 computer recording software. It has a lot of versatility for exporting (although its processing speed while exporting is limited to the speed of the iPad). I have no regrets getting this app. I highly recommend it.

Easy-to-use. Works just like the classic Roland drum machines of yore. Simple step sequencing with the ability to accent single strikes rather than a whole step. If you need more variability, there's a randomizer and the ability to set the velocity of any note individually. Decent collection of sounds to get you started. Simple export to pasteboard to import into other programs. Just spend the extra dollar or two and get this one because it works and works well. :)

Simple app, but it's all retro. I play the guitar as a hobby and have been looking for a simple way to create beats for covers and compositions. This app is very easy to get started, however, I've run into a few major limitations. First, the drum sounds are all vintage, retro or plain weird. There are no decent rock or hip hop drum sounds. Second, there is practically no help, documentation or tutorials on how to use the app - not in the app, not on their website. I guess, they are assuming people who buy the app are familiar with drum machines, which is a pity. Finally, the export to GarageBand app is very clumsy.

Wonderful Sounding App w/ a lot of flaws. This is my favorite sounding drum machine, I also like the functionality it as well. But I basically have to play it by itself. I have a IPAD 2 and this app will not midi synch with anything. It will accept midi clock for about 4 bars and then it floats out of sync. If it's the master then it's even worse. It's not my ipad because all of my other apps sync perfectly. Funkbox sounds like crap compared to this but it will at least synch perfectly. If they ever get the midi implimatation working corretcly it would be a five star.

Anxious for 3.0. The interface is so pro-looking that its a bit deceiving as to how limited the app is currently. Design lends appearance that this app is FULLY functional in this case means implementing what most serious users are indicating is essential. I still can't believe it doesn't sync to anything or send MIDI note info. HIGH on style, VERY GOOD sound, but NOT THERE in terms of features. $5 is a bit pricey for it as is, though I'd pay $10 if it had the features us customers are screaming loudly and clearly for: full midi implementation w/ sync; import/export of sounds / kits; export of patterns, etc. What I see from customer feedback and my own opinion: Great start, can't wait for the real thing. NOTE TO DEVELOPER: Checkout interface preferences on LittleMIDI app. Best integration I've seen yet. Good work guys, now let's make it GREAT!

Bad MIDI. I really enjoy the DM1 and all of it's features, but MIDI capabilities are lacking. Some songs receive (using iO dock 2, protools 10 and MOTU AV) MIDI tempo and notes fine, but others are glitchy, low resolution, or have constant digital distortion in them. I've experienced times when sending MIDI tempo freezes whatever app you're sending the tempo to. Also, sometimes sending MIDI tempo from protools results in the kit being played at a faster tempo or the bpm's constantly fluctuating in a glitchy manner. I'll continue to work around these issues for now, but you guys are really onto something with the DM1 and clearing a few things up would solify it as the best.

Great. This is definitely worth the money hands down, although it is difficult sometimes when plying around with the beat pad, there's been so many songs I made that I never recorded or made because they were spontaneous. You are really limited to the patterns and then organizing them in the song area. Essentially you can't freestyle and have it recorded. Also the pitch, I think it's stupid, you can't record the pitch in any way so essentially it's useless unless your playing live The mixer and FX are definitely cool. The only problem is that they do not work independet of each patternpattern. So once you set those, the entire song is set That I think is stupid. Although phenomalc app, probably changed the course of my life Gear job guys

I love creating music. I loved this app ever since I got introduced to it. I love how you can do anything you want I've had this app since Christmas and I'm loving it still. Especially the new update it really adds to the app and the wide range instruments. What I love about this app is the fx automation, the ability to record on the pads, and use any combination of sound effects your dear heart desires.

Good programmability but sync & MIDI still a problem.. I know this is a good drum machine overall and that the sync and MIDI ecosystem on iOS isn't robust. But aside from the problems of multiple developer implementations of IAA, CoreAudio, Virtual MIDI, this is one of the hardest instruments to sync and play well with others. Despite that one can select MIDI channel or use the Source/Destinations to send/receive messages, the connectivity problems of the DM1 is still one of the worst when it comes to sync timing and triggering as a drum sound generator. The only way to overcome some of DM1's interconnectivity problems seems to be using Audonic's MidiBridge, MidiBus—but those options of finding workarounds which are quirky at best and what does work this week might not next. I wish Fingerlabs would have some practical examples how to properly setup their DM1 in a studio with other popular apps. But still 4+ years and after a major overhaul of its sound engine it still remains one of the most difficult instruments to incorporate into a DAW or sequencer.
