Spectacularly Bad. This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever had the displeasure of using. It’s unfortunate that Sonos, more than Apple ever did, holds you hostage to their ecosystem if you want to use their product. I enjoy their speakers quite a bit; however, this app makes the listening experience incredibly frustrating. It constantly disconnects and forgets where your system is, cuts out intermittently, and the interface is extremely clunky and time-consuming. For instance, while using Audible in the app, there is no search bar, which means you have to scroll through your entire library to find the book you want. Same goes for Pocket Casts. I scroll through dozens and dozens of podcasts to find what I’m looking for. Yes, there is a very hit or miss search bar for your connected apps collectively, but it just seems lazy not to have such a basic feature for individual apps. I don’t understand how anybody could rate this above a couple of stars at most. I know some people will say the alternative is to simply use airplay, but that never seems to connect well either. Recently, Sonos has been advertising a forum for listeners to give feedback on their new speaker line, which they seem to have put much time and energy in to. If only they would do the same for their garbage app, we might get something better.

New app has destroyed Sonos System. Completely unreliable! Sometimes it works sometimes not. Sound drops from some speakers randomly. Went for there days not being able to choose music so the system simply could not be used. If you don't choose music it won’t work. My wife and I could control the old system flawlessly from either of our phones. Now, the phones conflict. If one is using the other can’t make any changes. The thousands of dollars invested in this system is essentially lost on a totally unreliable sound system. My frustration is quickly becoming anger. Soon I’ll be demanding my money back for all ten of my speakers! The problems started a few months before the new release. I suspect that they were affecting the old app while working on the new one. This is a serious problem. Would rate it less than one atar if I could.

Dumbest interface on the planet. I have spent equal time listening to our Sonos Move and trying to set it up…over and over again. Why? Because you can’t just move your portable Sonos device from room to room. You lose the signal when you do. What does this have to do with the app? Everything. The app is your lifeline to the device. You’ll bounce back and forth between inane instructions: “connect to the new router then return to the Sonos app” and FAQ on the Sonos website. And even when you place the speaker next to the only router it knows, you still can’t connect to it. Why? Because there is a new version of the app! Or maybe not. I updated to Sonos 2, then updated that. Intermittent wifi signal still. Can’t connect to Sonos. And round and round you go. Want to use Bluetooth because Move loses the wifi signal over and over again? Well, good luck with that, too. Which button do you push on the back to pair? The infinity one? The one with two symbols on each end? And why isn’t it pairing automatically, anyway? It did yesterday. Yes, the app is the key to using your $400 speaker, but no, it won’t tell you how to use that speaker.

Really poorly thought out integrations, no backwards compatibility, bizzare config steps. I was so psyched when I first started buying and setting up Sonos products. I wish I knew then what I know now. Sonos at its best is a really great thing - excellent sound broadcast anywhere across the house from any device. Sonos at its worst is a mystifying string of committee decisions that manifest in the form of really essential and basic performance requirements that are, for no apparent reason, complex and treated almost as afterthoughts. Why does S2’s automated configuration walkthrough recognize one of the brand new Sonos one modules I bought from Costco and not the other? A great mystery… Why does the manual setup process fail four times in a row? Another great mystery…. Why do I need to undergo some dance of the button pressing fairies to add the Sonos app to other mobile devices that are already authenticated on my protected WiFi network? I can’t really think of a good reason, and certainly no other smart home technology I use is quite so convoluted and awkward at the most essential of out of the box tasks. Part II - I can’t remember when the last time something I bought in a product series from a consumer facing company was not backwards compatible over at least a decade. Sonos? Forget about devices they sold you two Christmas’ past…. Might as well be from another planet. Some decisions made here that consumer protection regulators ought to be keen on, if you ask me.

Frustration. I have an extensive Sonia system: 2 Sonos Ones; 2 Sonos 3; 2 Sonos amps and 1 Sonos connector. I have an endless problems. I play them all together with the dream of having music throughout my house; however, at any one time two will randomly quit playing. I have called countless times and they always blame the WiFi. I have 7 Wi-Fi spots in my house (which is not that big) and best internet package - and my Sonos devices sit proximate to the Wi-Fi devices. Sonos is good because (in theory), it’s a connected wireless system - and the only one I know of. But it’s connected yet goes it and out that if you’re a music lover and went to the effort to set this up, it’s totally maddening. And I talk to my friends that have the same experience. And to add to the madness, Sonos won’t support older generation devices - when will they decide to quit supporting mine? Would you ever knowingly buy with the threat of (minimal) support? So now I routinely have to go unplug all the Sonos and wait like 20 minutes, plug them back in and hope they’ll work for a while. Bottom line: it’s a frustrating system although I don’t know of another way to do it wirelessly.

Buggy, buggy, buggy. Figure it out gang! So frustrating. App won’t connect to WiFi, even though every other app on the phone works fine. Won’t allow me to submit diagnostics because of the WiFi problem again. Set alarms sometimes work, which is worse than never working. I’ve been late to work because I was relying on it to wake me up, like it had done consistently for the past year. How do I trust this thing again? Bad lag from the time I pick up my phone to the time I can turn up/down the music or change the song. Sometimes I have to wait a full minute. Website says I can continue to use the S1 app with my old equipment if I prefer, but somebody’s lying. Since I signed on the the new app my equipment is now listed as incompatible. TV sound still connects, and I can manually turn on the last internet radio station I was playing on the app, but I have to use the buttons on the speaker and I can’t change the station. Update: After several days and repeated attempts to delete and reinstall the app I appear to have regained control. How long will it last? Pins and needles! The excitement is excruciating. What to expect from here is a question I cannot answer.

No sweat upgrade. I had my reservations about upgrading after reading through the reviews. So I did the research, confirmed compatibility of the products I have; Sonos one, play 5, connect, boost. All were purchased in the last few years and were compatible. I downloaded the app and ran the update. It took less that 5 minutes and my system was back online. The app upgrade left the S1 app installed, not sure why since it no longer works after a successful upgrade. I’m also not a fan of the interface color but maybe in a future version we’ll get the option to change. I did have one issue with the app. I ran the update from my iPhone X with no issues. When I tried to install S2 directly from the App Store on my old iPhone 6 that I use as a dedicated controller it froze at the splash screen. I realized you have to accept the terms of agreement but direct install did not offer that step. I had to remove it and install from the S1 controller. Only then did I get to accept the terms of agreement and app loaded normally. Overall, an easy upgrade.

A great experience. Paired with a phenomenal sound system, this app gives you access to numerous different music apps, your TV and much more, making it work seamlessly with all voice assistants and with its very own assistant (which in my opinion is the best way to control the sound system, with a very reassuring and calming masculine voice). The app has very elegant graphics and does not crash at all (in my experience). There are many options for personalizing your sound system both as a group and individually, speaker by speaker and for different uses too, such as for watching movies or listening to music. This is without a doubt the best option out there for those who care about sound quality and interoperability. Sonos knows what it’s doing and just keeps on improving on it. Five stars for sure, I abandoned all my HomePods (I had many throughout the house) but one (which I use as a home hub) and replaced them all with Sonos speakers. No-brainer.

Read before u buy. I have had Sonos since 2012, which I believe was the year after the company started. At the beginning I absolutely loved this entire system. So much so, that I spent close to $45,000 to have it installed throughout my entire property & my home. Everything worked beautifully until they introduced the S2 app. I won’t go into extensive detail here, but upgrading to the S2 app has rendered my entire system completely useless. It cuts out all the time & I can’t play any of my playlists anymore . To top it all off, they have completely off-shored their customer service. So if you have a problem, your left to speak to somebody in the Philippines, who basically troubleshoots from a script. Good luck trying to get a hold of anybody in the US for customer service. They make it completely impossible! They could care less about their loyal customers. I have spent the last five months trying to get this system to work again, even hiring technicians to troubleshoot, all at great expense. Extremely disappointed in this company and how they’ve screwed their older customers . Completely wasted $45k+.

Sonos needs to kick up their game. I’ve had an old Sonos port and now a new one with 4 Sonos 1 speakers and 8 ceiling non Sonos speakers. The sound is great but for years I’ve had issues with my Sonos 1 speakers cutting out. I thought it was my wifi to the point of buying 3 google routers none of it helped. I reached out to Sonos but they just told me it was the wifi. I remember the days when they used to care and had great service. Now they just care about what new electronics they release. Which brings me to nothing is new about their app. It drives me freakin crazy that I can’t transfer most of my Apple Music to the app because I get a notification that I’ve taken up too much space. If I use my music to control from my iPhone it crashes at times. I have an iPhone 12. The app is nothing special and honestly if get it together by at least mimicking the music app from iTunes it would make life easier. The latest issue is that every time I open the app now my playlists never show up. I have to close and open the app twice for them to show up. There is a list of negative things about Sonos that I’ve just kept quiet about but now I’m over it. Improve the app and make it worth getting your expensive equipment. Can’t run them when your app stinks

Feeling cheated. DO NOT BUY SONOS. I have Sonos throughout my entire house (and back yard, and front porch) … every room. I started small and added over time And I loved it! Speakers sound great, like functionality of the interface, versatility, etc. But now Sonos is telling me that half of my system (the oldest half) must be replaced. The hardware is in perfect working order but Sonos refuses to upgrade the software for the older units. Which will be thousands of dollars for me to replace. To replace a perfectly good working system of speakers and amps. I’ve been hacking my way for over a year by using Sonos 1 and Sonos 2 apps but now even those don’t work. This was clearly an intentional - and highly flawed - business strategy. In Europe this is an illegal business practice under their “right to repair” act … but I should emphasize that my system doesn’t even need repair. The hardware is in perfect working order - Sonos has simply decided to force its existing customers to spend more money because they don’t want to keep using the original software. That I paid for. Outrageous. Don’t buy from a company that treats its customers this way.

I regret my decisions. First, the only reason I have Sonos is because the former owner of my house decided to install a home speaker system using Sonos. The app is a strong hit or miss and even when it hits, it’s clunky, difficult to navigate and not extremely user friend. Against my better judgement, I purchased additional Sonos products, knowing I would once again still rely upon the app functionality. Well, I can say I stand behind the quality of the product, but the difficulties of this app make me regret my decision to ever continue with the Sonos product. Currently, I am locked out of anything on my account as every time I try to access, factory reset or do anything with my Sonos products or account on the app, nothing works. My account, system and services options are all greyed out and I cannot do anything to remedy it, even after calling Sonos and scouring the internet for solutions. Once again, I regret the decisions I make and would strongly urge anyone looking to purchase Sonos products to question if they are willing to deal with an unreliable and useless app to properly utilize your expensive product.

Sonos...thank you. I did a lot of going and back and forth before I bought my first Sonos speaker (and now the owner of many) because I had always been a Bose person but after reading more on how far Sonos was ahead on WiFi connection speakers I decided to buy the Sonos (not to mention the aesthetics of the Sonos are nicer) - later I started becoming so disappointed in the compatibility of “old” speakers that I had paid a lot of money on with my new speakers and the app with the new ios updates with all of the extra steps that I now had to go through - I called Sonos and was advised this was not going to change - then one day out of nowhere it did change and it was as easy as before - now with this new update to the app it is even better and just has even a nicer look to the screens - thank you Sonos for doing the extras to continue to make the experience perfect - love my Sonos!

Stand by the devices that have trouble.. Everything went smoothly for me. I checked the hardware comparability list which clearly listed the play5: gen1 and a few others that wouldn’t be compatible, no problem I just have the playbase and bunch of play1s. Downloaded the app and proceeded to push the updates with several notices of errors however I waited about 5-8 minutes and most of them finished updating on their own. Two play1s failed and when I tried them again only the ones I was immediately next to would finish. I don’t know if its that they are using our phone’s Bluetooth but I did get a notice asking if it could use it prior to the update. So that’s my advice check the compatibility list, stand next to the trouble speakers while attempting the update and you may have to try several times. 4 stars only for the update process but as far as functionality almost identical to Sonos S1 so far.

Good speaker BAD app. I don’t use my speaker a lot, but I’ve had it since 2017. I believe it is 8/10 I go to use the speaker and the app, I have to update AND reauthorize. A few times it makes me do the whole walk around the room beeping thing. I am such a casual user that I really feel impeded by this. I just want to listen to some music now while I paint, instead I’m standing at my speaker once again trouble shooting to make it work. Almost every single time I want to use it. THATS what is trusting to me. If I didn’t have to update it and authorize it on a near constant basis, I would give 5 stars. But all I want to do is open and play. I don’t understand why that’s so hard, that’s how speakers and music players of any kind worked before. On, play. This is a 20 minute tech support quest almost every time, sometimes I’m like “f* it, I’ll turn on the TVs music channels instead because they just play” Otherwise I love it. The sound is good and I’m really happy, except when I use it. 🤦‍♀️ The next time I purchase one of these speakers I’ll be looking at these reviews first, because I wouldn’t buy another one that does this. I do not understand how anyone rates this app above 1 star.

Frustrating to use!. The Sonos app is incredibly unstable and frustrating. We have three speakers: an Arc connected to the TV in the living room, and a Sonos One in a bedroom and another Sonos One in the kitchen. On any given day the app will drop one or both of the Sonos One speakers, for no apparent reason, when all the speakers had worked fine earlier in the day and appeared in the system in the app. And then … poof! One or both of the speakers disappear from the app … Unplugging the speaker(s) and rebooting it sometimes helps, sometimes not. Unplugging the wifi router (which is a pain to have to do) sometimes helps, sometimes not. And other times the app will simply be greyed out with nothing visible. You get the picture. Very frustrating … When things work as they should, the sound is a joy, particularly from the Arc. But man, oh man, the product interface and user experience is anything but friendly or reliable. I finally called customer support today and spent 45 minutes on the phone, but no joy: got the three speakers working and then 20 minutes later the two Sonos One speakers disappeared and the app was greyed out on my phone … Very disappointed and frustrated!

None compare. This is hands down the best whole house system money can buy. Not only is the system set up room to room probably the easiest plug and play system I’ve ever installed, but the sound is incomparable. Over the years I have built this system with every product offered, Stereo paired Ones in each room, the garage and the porch, the Arc and Sub with Ones as surround in the living room, stereo paired Fives in the sunroom, and a Move for the deck and yard. My house sounds like a concert hall I kid you not. I absolutely love walking room to room and outside with music following me. That has always been a pet peave of mine with traditional stereo systems, listening to a really good song, have to leave the room and not being able to continue listening to the same song. Sonos has made that ancient history. The really blow you away thing is they are all controlled by the super simple to use app. Not only can you control the entire system with a finger tip, you can individually control each room. Just incomparable, these guys have figured it out. There is nothing on the market that even comes close.

Doesn’t work as the system ages. I have a system that apparently has one or more products from the original system that are not compatible. I have not been able to ever get S2 to work with my system. It won’t set up a new system after “deleting” it from my old network, it says it can’t find any of the products. But when I set them up again on S1 and try to find them on S2 it briefly finds them, says there is one issue, but then brings me immediately to a black screen that says I need to repeat the two steps I’ve just described in order to use S2 (delete system on S1 and set up new system on S2, or take off product that’s not compatible and use s2, well it doesn’t tel me which item isn’t compatible, so how do I move forward?) Sonos customer support has VERY limited support hours so over the last three months I haven’t had the luck of being able to get someone on support when I do have the time to call in. It’s insane that I have no other option and cannot move forward with this app, I tried multiple angles like taking one speaker off of my Sonos at a time and then trying to connect the s2 app and it still says that it has an issue, or that it can’t find the system. At this point I don’t see myself staying loyal to the brand anymore and am tired of trying to get this fixed, which has been an issue since the s2 app launched 😩

So Many Problems with S2 app. I have had 13 sonos devices sense gen 2 came out, like 3 plus years. Everything worked perfectly never a problem. It was easy to add a new product. Perfect. I even had it on the 5G of my dual band network. Then S2 upgrade happened. I have speakers disappearing. I have some of my speakers showing up on different networks. To add a new device forget it. It is such a non friendly user process. I read that sonos does not support 5g. Ok so I tried to change networks to my mesh network. I thought I got it. No I can’t get my play 5, playbar or sub to work with the rest of the system. I have restarted my system, reconfigured my router. Nothing had worked. And depending on the phone I use different devices show up on different networks. I hope there is some improvement to the app, because this has taken way to much time to try figure out. I just want my perfect sonos system back to enjoy all over the house and backyard. Update Ok I am going to give it another star. After discussing my issues with a friend he recommended using my orbi router only. Once I went from 3 networks to one the devices went to one. After a day it seems to have smoothed out. Updates can still be a problem takes a while. I am still not convinced of the stability but we will see. At least I have everything set up like it was.

Should’ve Listened to the Reviews. I disregarded all the bad reviews and thought I’d take a chance, now my devices are in a perpetual state of ‘updating’ 😡 ... I’ve usually been able to get the previous Sonos updates to go through, but not sure what’s going on this time, not happy with their upgrade attempt and having to put up with all the ads in the recent releases. I gave their new music service a try as well for which I was hopeful, but it left me very unimpressed. I’ve always liked the Sonos devices, but not happy how they force you to upgrade leaving their older devices useless! I’ve been a faithful Sonos user from the beginning, but now I’m considering other options! UPDATE - Cancelling and cycling the devices that were paired with subs and surrounds seemed to allow me to finally update all the devices, so adding a few stars, still had to add each device separately one by one. The new look feels a little better with the colors, but overall don’t notice much difference in the layout, feels like they just want to make sure you log into your account so they can keep an eye on ur devices and music habits so they can push their own service, which isn’t bad, but doesn’t let you skip songs which just about every other service does.

The glitch never ends. After 8 or so years of using my Sonos system, it’s just time to put it out there that this system, for the price, is just not worth it. For years now, it’ll work fine for a while, then some mystery update or something happens and it becomes the glitchiest thing ever. Right now, as I type this, sound is randomly dropping in and out, songs play for a minute then skip ahead, the system is (trying to) play one song but the app shows a different song, volume randomly and inexplicably cranks way up. When it works, the sound is great but honestly these days you don’t have to pay this much for good sound. So, the reason to buy Sonos is for the WiFi setup and ease of use which, as previously mentioned in this review, comes and goes. And really, here’s the thing…all this glitch has been going on ever since I bought my first Sonos speaker several years ago. It’s never gotten better. I mean, you’d think the company would figure this out over time! I won’t be investing any more in Sonos products and I guess I’ll keep dealing with the glitch until it just becomes completely unworkable.

S2 Sonos app is buggy and unresponsive. In general, I am a big fan of my Sonos speaker system, and I found the previous iteration of the app to work consistently and well. I only had to replace one piece of hardware in order to switch to S2, which I did relatively happily since I’d gotten years of use out of the system and understand that companies can’t support hardware forever. However, I’ve been really disappointed by the new app and/or S2 platform. When I try add or remove speakers to/from groups in the app, I get frequent error messages. Restarting the app sometimes helps, but usually I have to keep trying 5-6 times before I am successful. The app also freezes periodically. Probably not an app issue, but streaming overall is less reliable, with much more frequent drops. I haven’t changed any other aspects of my home network, so I attribute these issues to the new S2 platform. Unfortunate and frustrating given my large investment in the Sonos ecosystem and excellent experience with the previous generation of the platform. Hopeful that the new platform improves over time, but irritating that it wasn’t more stable when released.

Sonos the only way.. I sell Sonos to my clients. In a smart package with Lutron, Ring, and either Emtek or Level for their smart locks. I used to sell Control 4 for all of those, and it is twice to three times more expensive than all of the above mentioned vendors combined. And Sonos just always works if you have good Wi-Fi. Which is true of all the smart products I integrate for customers. I know the forums that have a few people with issues that don’t get resolved. Buy in my experience of 10 years with Sonos, it almost always is Wi-Fi issues or how the network they have is set up. So, I rely on Sonos so that I don’t have to get calls or service issues. And above all my customers love the App. Usually it is their favorite or at least top 3. At home, I have an Arc, rear Ones, Sonos Sub, and it sounds as good to me (I know I’m not an expert on sound) as some of my clients $200,000 media rooms. For $1900. Until I see something better on the market, and that makes sense for my customers, which I haven’t in over a decade. I support and love Sonos!

Average Sound, Frustrating User Experience. I really want to like this system, the concept behind it is convenient and easy, however the execution falls far short. The sound is not bad, but the enjoyment ends there. Like everyone else, they endlessly try to get you into a subscription, and if you don’t do that, your faced with 30-second commercials whenever you turn it on. I own lots of music, but this stupid system won’t let me play 80% of my songs, even ones that were purchased within the last two years from iTunes. What it chooses to play and not play seems very random, and is done under the guise of licensing and copyright law etc. These types of systems are built for residential home use, so I’m not sure why it gets so draconian in this area. But wait, there is more. The network routinely loses or forgets speakers in the network. I am constantly having to re-setup individual speakers within the system, because it fails to recognize them. Sometimes, this is a quick 60-second fix, using prompts from the app, but just as frequently, the situation is only resolved by restarting the router, or actually having to walk the speaker over to the router and connect it with an analog cable, a chore which can take five or six minutes. For a system that touts being plug and play and super convenient, it is rare that I can actually turn it on and just have music play. There is almost always some sort of troubleshooting I have to do, or workaround I have to perform.

The app bugs will cost you hours. I have four brand new Era 100 speakers. I just updated this app and still have so many problems with speakers disappearing. If you have an Xfi Gateway router connected to Erro or other extenders don’t waste you time (me 3 hours). You have to call Xfinity and say, “Turn off DHCP Mode on each of every access point.” to even have a chance for your speakers to connect. BUT! even after that they will still disappear from the Sonos app. You physically have to touch a button on each speaker to MAYBE have them appear on the app. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had to restore the speakers to factory and have heard the annoying syncing chime for them to not show up in the app. Ohhh let’s not forget how music from previous playlists that aren’t even playing on your phone will play, sometimes different songs on different speakers! Again, you have to physically turn it off on the speaker itself because it doesn’t show in the app. I really am thinking of returning all of the speakers and going with the older version. WTH were they thinking to release this and their customers the product testers? Even if all the speakers show up the app is so confusing and not user friendly.

Sonos speakers are expensive but you get what you pay for. Since I was a kid I always wanted a nice stereo speaker system. I never got one until I started out buying Sonos products. I start with two sonos play speakers which sounded amazing but eventually I wanted more bass. So I got the sub. Amazing room filling sound. Then I wanted surround in my home so I got the sound bar, not the arc but the lower one.(though I still want to buy the arc). Then I needed some speakers for my garage to work out… I got 2 play 5’s. Then I wanted some outdoor sound so I got 3 more play speakers. ( I never leave them out. I bring them in after every use). I am not rich. I bought these over the course of many years and loves them every step of the way. I can wait to get the arc once I save up enough for it. They are definitely pricey but if you love music the price is well worth it. I’ll never buy anything else.

Either a buggy app or a bait and switch tactic from SONOS. So I have been happily using the old SONOS app since we got our system. We have an old gen 1 speaker 5, 1 sound bar, two speaker 3’s, 2 boosts and 2 moves. When I went to upgrade the original SONOS apps looked at my system and told me the ONLY piece of equipment that was not compatible with the new app was the old speaker 5. So I removed it from the system exactly as directed, downloaded the new app and when I fired it up it told me my 2 boosts and my 2 speaker 3’s were not compatible (so only my 2 moves and the sound bar are compatible) which is NOT what the original SONOS app told me. So either the new SONOS app is wrong or I have to update virtually all my hardware to use the new app (which sounds very much like bait and switch to me). Back to the original app. Very disappointed that the the new and old app don’t agree as to which of my components are compatible. For what I pay for SONOS components I expect MUCH better than this.

Roam Continually Skips. I have a love/hate relationship with my Sonos Roam. My system consists of Sonos Beam+Sub and the Roam. When the system works it is amazing. I love to have music streaming and take the Roam outside while the same music is playing inside. The Beam+Sub has worked for the most part flawlessly since I purchased in late 2019. I bought my first Roam in mid 2021 and it seemed to work fine until out of warranty about a year later. It stopped connecting to my system. Okay I thought, I love it that much, I’ll buy another. So I bought another in late 2022. Guess what? It stopped working, just loud screeching noise around mid 2022. Still under warranty, they sent me a new one. Worked fine until mid 2023 (out of warranty now I presume)…now drops from my system over and over. They suggest a fix, works for 3 days, then disappears from my system. I reboot the router, the Roam returns and the beam goes out. Of course it’s the weekend and no support availability, so no music tonight…except on my other brand Bluetooth. When my Sonos system doesn’t work I hate it, and it’s super embarrassing when I have company, not to mention their opinion of the Sonos brand.

How can anyone at Sonos take pride in this awful app???. Even though I have been dumb enough to keep buying Sonos speakers for the past eight years, the app continues to only get worse and worse. How can anyone on the Sonos team take pride in this end result? This app can’t do the most simple of tasks on a consistent basis. I’m referring to simply connecting to speakers on the system, adjusting the volume, stop or start playing, let alone more meaningful tasks. The Sonos team seems to be more concerned about tracking my location and activity, as well as notifying me on worthless information, and trying to build their own streaming service. Yeah, as if I would ever give them additional business when they came and get their stupid app correct. I’ve had multiple homes in multiple locations with lots of smart home tech. This is by far the worst of smart smart home app and technology on the market today. It’s the only one that I cannot connect to when not in my house. I can adjust my front door locks, my lights, my thermostat, security cameras, all from remote locations but I can’t turn off my freaking speakers when I’m not home. this is an absolute train wreck of an app. It’s so bad I am literally embarrassed for the Sonos team.

Can’t handle the bugs. When the app works, it’s the same as the previous version. When it doesn’t and speakers disappear mid listening session or suddenly you are “Unable to Connect,” it’s infuriating. God forbid you want to switch stations or songs... you’ll undo anything you fixed the previous day. There can literally be sound coming out of a speaker and the app will be unable to see it. The issues are resolvable (you basically end up re-adding the speaker... sometimes 3-4 times), but it can take minutes to up to 30 minutes depending on the situation-it was a 20-minute fix session that prompted me to finally review. That wouldn’t be so bad, but it happens EVERY SINGLE DAY. Only the days that I only listened to one thing on one speaker have I NOT had an issue I had to fix. I don’t buy the user-error arguments here. I never had issues like this with the previous app/firmware, and my WiFi config is exactly the same. If there’s a universal cause that is my fault, great, tell me what it is, and I’ll fix it. This app was not ready for prime time. The number one development rule in every software company I’ve worked for is you can’t break your existing customers. I love SONOS, but I feel like I’m driving a Ferrari with two flat tires at the moment.

DON’T UPGRADE!. First of all, I’m a Sonos fan. Have used their products for about 8 years and like what they have to offer. Sat down to watch a movie with the family and thought hey, there is an upgrade, let’s go for it before we start. Then spent two hours trying to fix what the upgrade caused and now have a worthless Play 5 first gen. First downloaded the app and then none of my products worked. Did a hard factory reset on one and got it to work. Then did a hard reset on my Sonos 5 first gen and was told it wasn’t compatible with the new ap. Tried to go back to the old Sonos 1 app but because my products updated, was told they were no longer eligible for that either. I deleted my current system and tried to start fresh but still couldn’t use Sonos 1 and the products wouldn’t work with Sonos 2. Had to perform a hard factory reset on all my products (10) and start again with the Sonos 2 app. And now my Play 5 is basically a brick because it isn’t compatible with the new system. I think when I bought the Play 5 it was like $400 and the only way I could get an input AV jack. I’m glad some folks were able to give it 5 stars and it worked for them. I wasn’t so lucky and now after reading the reviews, others may also be having issues.

App is lacking. First, I have had Sonos products for several years and have found them to be excellent. Second, I am a software architect by trade so understand technology very well. But the app that supports the hardware needs work. I can often find work around s in the community but that shouldn’t be needed. An example of this is that with the new generation of speakers you apparently must purchase the ‘connect’ hardware or go through a reinstall of your speakers almost daily. Since this is the case they should offer this at a huge discount, and make note of this need on website. Second, if one or more speakers was ‘dropped’ due to wifi and you inadvertently start playing music you won’t easily be able play including the dropped speaker, even when it had been re-added, the app restarted, etc. the option to select speakers doesn’t pop up. Any help has to be through a search on website or google. As I said the user community has workarounds for several issues but this should not be needed.

Best portable speaker ever. I love using the Move outside in our front yard, on our patio, and in the house, too. The sound is great, the app is wonderful, and the connectivity is better than I’ve ever used. Being able to use the app through wifi is such a relief when people are over or you just want music. No phone call interruptions, no alerts from apps on the phone - just music. And such a great way to do it. I put the app on my wife’s phone, too, and she can now change the music whenever she wants. She has never used a music app with less frustration. Whereas she is not technologically inclined, the app is easy enough for her navigate and find exactly what she wants. So, less stress for me, too. Honestly, we haven’t even used the Move far enough away from the house to need the Bluetooth, but I know it will sound good when we do. We are already thinking about getting another Move for the house. Highly recommended, especially when using through wifi and the Sonos app.

Transferring Ownership. Overall good app minus one important feature/setting…transferring ownership. There is no way to transfer ownership of the Sonos system without I’m putting the new owner’s credentials. Why in the world would a new owner of the system want to give me their password??? You should be able to transfer ownership by only having to type in their email address, and then they should be able to achieve ownership themselves without giving out their passwords. On the Sonos support pages, it does indicate you can do this by logging out first, but it doesn’t work. When you attempt, the app only guides you to log back in and then starts over with requiring the password of the account you are trying to transfer to. I even tried resetting the app and also deleted and re-installed the app. In disbelief, I contacted Sonos phone support only to have them repeat the same processes I had already done on my own and taking up 45 minutes of my time with no solution. This needs to be fixed!

New app is very buggy. There are so many problems with the new app that I don’t know where to begin. 1. The app doesn’t see the TV sound bar reliably. 2. Frequently you can’t play any sources other than Sonos radio 3. Sonos radio has people talking between tracks, very annoying even if they were to be clever 4. Sometimes the app just spins when you open it. 5. The app often forget stereo pairs and I need to set them up again. 6. The support self service just takes you to a page with all the information they think you need but it is never there. It would be better to have a workflow that would progress based on answers to questions around problems like the ones above. Update: The above comments hold and now I updated to a Sonos port to add a Pro-ject 1 turn table which needs to be grounded. The port doesn’t have a ground which puts my very expensive and high quality speakers at risk. As alway great idea with fatal flaws. If you do go Sonos maybe don’t have a system as large as mine (port, bridge, move, roam, 5.1 surround plat bar, two other stereo pairs, a play3 and a play5. When the whole system works, it sounds great.

Sonos more trouble than it’s worth. I was initially quite impressed with the sound quality of SONOS and the ability to manage multiple speaker locations throughout various rooms in the the home. It also seemed to link up well with Apple Music for a while, but have more recently been quite disappointed due to frequent unexpected downtime and poor reliability of anticipated use due to frequent notifications to “need to re-authorize Apple Music”. I get these notifications quite often despite my Apple Music subscription being paid and consistently up-to-date. To magnify the frustration with this system further it seems to require these authorizations usually when I have friends over and the system fails to respond unless I take an inordinate amount of time away from my guests to get up and running again. While I could expand the number of speakers, subwoofers, etc. in my home, the frequent service disruptions are a huge disincentive to invest any further in this system. There truly are many other options available that deliver greater reliability, more predictable availability with blue tooth compatibility and high end sound quality.

Wasted $2000. Purchased a Sonos ARC, Gen 3 Subwoofer, and 2 Sonos One speakers to use as surround sound. Owner then for about 6 months and loved them but then I moved to an apartment where the provide very fast internet. I routinely get 600mbps upload and download, and they are using Ruckus access points. Unfortunately they also use ip isolation and because Sonos insists on only being setup on a network that has an active internet connection I can not use my Sonos speakers for surround. Luckily I can get the ARC it’s self to connect to my tv but the app can’t find it so I can’t tune it or use any network features. If Sonos would enable an offline mode and allow me to connect it to a local network without internet then I could use my $2000 sound system the way I want, but it’s typical big tech forcing an online connection because they think they know how I want to use something. Probably making sure they have access to your data so they can sell it. Before this experience I’ve sold several thousands of dollars worth of Sonos products through the retailer I have worked at for 15 years. I now try and push Sony products for sound bars.

App updates should be tested better prior to release. I love the sound of my Sonos system (Beam, 2 x One and Sub). I bought it two years ago when the Beam first came out, while I love the system, I have a long term, ongoing love/hate relationship with the app. EVERY time an update is pushed to the app, I have connectivity issues for weeks, sometimes months. I am a tech savvy person, I fix my parents and friends electronic issues regularly, but the issues with the system and app are app specific. This latest update has asked me to “find” my system (unplug each device and reset the router), I have, it worked and the next day, it’s magically gone again. I have received emails from Sonos asking if I wanted to beta test and I didn’t respond for this very reason, if I have ongoing issues when they update the app when they think it’s good, why would I want to experience issues more frequently. Sonos, you have wonderful equipment, get a better software development team, your app is entirely too buggy on a long term basis. Thanks.

New App is AWFUL. I admit I tend to default to new versions of apps, so shame on me for not researching S2. But MUCH bigger shame on Sonos for putting this app out in the world - especially when people are at home more than usual due to an international pandemic - when it has so many shortcomings. I chose Sonos years ago and have loved it because it’s not Bluetooth and my music doesn’t get interrupted every time I receive a text or phone call. But this new app is about to make me rethink things. I CONSTANTLY have to refresh the app, unplug my speakers to test everything or both. And even that doesn’t fix the problems. It will literally disconnect mid-song with no explanation. And tries to blame it on my WiFi. I worked from home even before COVID, so my internet/WiFi is NOT the problem. And now, when I try to go back to the old app, it tells me my system isn’t compatible. I’m beyond infuriated....

Simply the Best. Does it seem hyperbolic to say SONOS is one of the best investments I’ve ever made? Maybe. But is it true? Heck yeah! I use all my speakers every day, and the SONOS app makes it all possible. Using the SONOS app, I can seamlessly play different music for different people in different rooms using different accounts like Apple Music, SoundCloud and Sonos Radio; I can unite the speakers to play the same in all rooms; I can use voice control when cooking or other activities make fidgeting with my phone a challenge; and I can switch from music to movie watching, giving my den theater-quality audio. I can even take my waterproof SONOS Roam into the shower with me for a much needed wake-up jam session (or to get the morning news OR to continue the Audible book that kept me awake too late the night before). For mediaphiles of almost any sort, SONOS speakers — and the app that makes the magic of SONOS all possible — are indispensable.

Sonos still Sonos. I see the hate and love relationship here. The transition between the old and new app definitely messed some people up but not for me. I don’t know how people’s speakers were lost during the transition, but I can only think of it being a WiFi issue or user error. As a person who works in people’s homes, I can say most of the tech issues are because they don’t know what they’re doing. I mean, it could be the app but I’m just saying. I wasn’t able to update to the Gen 2 app because I was still using a ZP80. I had no idea. At first, I thought my whole entire system couldn’t be updated because Sonos called all my equipment old. This made me angry, knowing all my Sonos from barely a year ago is on a decline. Then I noticed that I was able to check the “compatible” equipment, to which is told me my very old connect was the thing holding me back. I removed it and now all my Sonos is under the new app. No issues with the app or speakers of course. I guess what I’m saying here is Sonos poor communication and stating “anything before May 2020” is considered gen 1 is not only inaccurate it makes people think all the wrong things. ALL my Sonos works with the new app, old and new, just not my Sonos Connect from 2015. It still works with the old app, however. Sonos needs to rectify this with their consumers.

Sound Quality seems better. After reading many of the reviews I decided to upgrade to S2 when I had some time to spend troubleshooting. The process went super smoothly and took less then five minutes. I did make sure before upgrading that all my equipment was compatible with S2 because using 2 apps to control only some speakers on a particular app would be a showstopper for me. My home network being quite good might have contributed greatly to my success, I have all ubiquiti UniFi equipment running my network basically commercial equipment, App seems to have a quicker response with the speakers and sound quality has improved. I would like for Sonos to have a dark theme option for the app but the white background is not a dead breaker. If you choose to upgrade I hope that you have the same results as I did and not deal with some of the nightmare stories in some reviews that were posted for this app. Good luck!

Slow, buggy, annoying. Where’s this “better product” we were promised?. Been a Sonos owner for about as long as they’ve been around. Was one of those negatively affected by the switch to S2 and felt, as long as we were supposed to be getting a better experience, maybe I would wait and see. Well, here we are years later and the app takes longer than ever connecting to my system, that’s if it even does. Bugs are a constant issue, my playbar often forgets how to respond to my Apple TV remote adjusting volume, music between rooms often clips and cuts out, IR repeater turns annoyingly turns itself back on any time there’s an update or one of the far too often hard restarts (unplugging everything) required, despite having a very fast router, small home, and keeping things updated. Really disappointed that Sonos has failed to keep their promise of better performance and new features. Pretty lame that I lost use (essentially) of a $500 speaker for… this. A worse experience with a slightly better looking app that takes way longer to accomplish my tasks than it should. Not to mention we never even got Siri integration. Weak.

Can’t set it up. Won’t connect!!. First of all, I am a HUGE SONOS fan. I have had Sonos products for almost a decade and have never had any issues with any of them. I preordered the new ARC sound bar and got it delivered on June 11th. Today was the first day I was able to get to it to set it up. I converted to the S2 app and the upgrading of my old system went very simple and smooth. Then it went downhill from there. My ARC will not complete the set up process. I start with adding a product. The app recognizes the new sound bar. It tells me to press the connect button and listen to for the sound. The sound plays....and then the app just hangs up and doesn’t finish the process. It comes up with an error and then says it can’t find the product and blames it on my network. Super frustrating. I have 10 other speakers and they are all working fine on the new app. What is really frustrating is when you realize you just spent over $900 on a new sound bar and have several thousand dollars worth of SONOS gear and they don’t have 24/7 customer service. It is Saturday and now I have to wait until Monday before I can make a call to customer service to try and get this working. I believe it is the new app that is to blame. I have never had this issue in the past with any of my SONOS products. Very Frustrating.

Seamless So Far.... This has been a seamless upgrade for me. Took about three minutes to upgrade. All you had to do was download the App and it detects your system on the network. The rest is history, including the old S1 App. Also, I don’t get the clamoring about all the new features and that this is just lipstick on a pig. The upgrade here is intended to manage a lot of the things in the background and enable all the new products with the next generation software. If you’re having issues connecting then perhaps it’s your network or internet. Overall it just worked when I downloaded. All my speakers work great still and it was glitch free so far. I think people take for granted how hard this stuff is with their 1 and 2 star ratings? How can you rate an App one star if you haven’t even tried to use it? (There are several reviews that give one star but then go on to say they haven’t installed it yet).

For my nosy neighbors. I live in New York and the walls are paper thin in all apartments. So I originally had a beats beatbox speaker . it was loud enough but if I maxed out the speaker you’d hear the bass more than anything . I wanted something that I could hear the music clearly . I was tired of my neighbors listening to my every conversation and then repeating my business to any who would listen . so my brother got me sonos 1 speaker (not sold anymore) but when I tell you my neighbors hated me !!! I loved it . I played music all day and night . then I got a sonos second generation for my bedroom because they could still hear my conversation from the back of the apartment when I found out the speakers sync to each other and I think I almost cried .BEST INVESTMENT EVER !!!!!! And the music sound amazing ! So clear and it’s so loud and if I have both speakers on at the same time it sounds like I’m at a concert .

Who is giving this garbage 5 stars…. …They must be paid for the review or something. I have been an owner for over 10 years and have 9 speakers. Several original play 1s and several 5’s (2nd edition), a Move and the original sound bar. Constant delays with the app…songs suddenly “not encoded properly” when they were never an issue before, or they played fine today, but an issue yesterday. I’ve tried all the usual trouble shooting including changing the network channel. I also have 2 “Boosts” from Sonos which clearly must be for decoration as they don’t seem to help. And who doesn’t want to clear their calendar for hours calling Sonos to troubleshoot? One suggestion is to run around unplugging all of them for 30 seconds and plug them all back in. I’m sorry but for a system that costs an exorbitant amount of money it should, I don’t know, just work??? I am seriously considering selling all of them and starting over. I’m not sure if Bose or Apple are any better but at least if it’s Apple I know their music will play on it. And I get inundated with “upgrade” adds. If the answer to your problems are to buy up to a new speaker every few years, I’ll pass. Unbelievable.

Great sound, headaches along the way. Sound is awesome. Setup a bit troublesome due to confusing app verbiage and app goes in circles during setup (for me anyhow) asking for the same thing over and over even after it says your good...so you’re never sure it’s set up....until it just works. When connection is sketchy for whatever reason, then you may have to plug and unplug it to get it going again...and also rebooting the WiFi router may be required after an interruption of the connection. That is quite annoying. With a solid WiFi connection and once set up it’s great. If you move it around to differing networks or have sketchy WiFi, you may experience confusion with the setup UI. I love the hardware, not a fan of the UI on the phone though. I’ll probably buy another though as the active amp and network configurability of combinations are quite solid features. Oh, and I couldnt submit this review without a nickname. I tried “nicknamenottaken”....and guess what? It was taken. The first 7 names I tried were taken....such is the annoyance of Sonos. I almost didn’t write this because of it.

Great Sound when it works….. We have a sound bar, sub and 4 play 1 speakers. The sound quality is excellent. However every time I get into the app in can’t connect or find the speakers, the only thing that works is the sounds bar I guess because it’s connected directly to the tv. I follow the instructions to try and find the system, but it NEVER works. The only thing I can do is factory reset everything and start all over. Again, every single time. Could reset it today then have to do it again tomorrow. Every other device in the house connects to the internet with no issues, so this is 100% a Sonos thing. Their customer service is a joke, couldn’t be more rude if they tried. You’d think they’d at least be marginally understanding given the amount of $$ we’ve spent, but no. We’ve stopped using the play 1 speakers (google nest, works great), and will be replacing the sound bar and sub as well. I know some people have had success with Sonos, but think long and hard before buying their stuff. They are not cheap, and there are a lot of reviews similar to mine. Your money may be better spent elsewhere.

Terrible app, great beam!. Too bad Sonos has to have an app(like everything else!) like we need more apps? Ugh! Anyway, the app is terrible. I just got my beam. My first sound bar recommended by my brother. The beam, great! Can’t say enough about it! The app? Terrible! I’ve only had it a few hours and the app has disconnected itself from the beam already four to five times! It does this every time I close out the app totally. I don’t need an app on constantly in the background! 🙄 Sheesh!! Plus don’t set your pair your remote (at least from dish) up with it. Otherwise you can’t turn the tv off n on!!?? Setting it back up, takes several steps! This is ridiculous! I mean, really, Sonos? This is the best you can do? Plus, Sonos wants access, if you add your music services to take away or change as they please? WTH?!! And what happened to trueplay? I know others are complaining online, there has been no news on that. I got two recommendations for the beam. My brother and a tech. But they forgot to mention the app issues!! So right now, I’m still on the fence about keeping this expensive (yet cheaper version of the arc) just because of a stupid, clunky app! This app, keeps getting less stars from me all in one day! Get it together Sonos! I’m using this on new iPad Air 4 if that matters. Not that they read reviews apparently. Since I see no reviewers have gotten a response yet! Enough said!

No wifi....no use.. I am disappointed that I have purchased a premium stereo product which only allows use if you have wifi at home in setting up. I only require prepay via my iPhone to attend to my internet needs prior to this product. I could have purchased something else at less than half the price which would immediately connect via Bluetooth. Surely this is a basic function that needs to be addressed which is standard across all other competitor’s product! Frustrated. :(

Sonos S2 is a seismic flop. My Sonos used to be the most reliable thing in my house but after the introduction of the (forced) S2 app I have had nothing but problems. It’s so annoying I’m close to selling my system and buying something different. Shame on the team at Sonos for destroying a perfectly wonderful product. If you’re new to Sonos or thinking of buying one... don’t. Don’t waste your money or energy you will waste trying to work it.

I thought version 2 was supposed to be better than version 1?. I just moved over from S1 app to S2, but it seem the app has issues playing songs, letting me manage the devices and generally just not working. I’ve been using S1 for many years and it’s been working perfectly fine. Then I bought a Roam and had to upgrade, which so far has been a sad experience. I love the Sonos speakers. We pay a lot of money for the hardware so please don’t disappoint us by a mediocre controller. Looking forward to your updates.

Awesome 70% of the time. I love Sonos. Issues are the maddeningly low quota of favourites that force me to delete stations and albums etc. And the sometimes not working connections to Apple Music which seem to resolve themselves despite my various interventions. Alarm setting is tricky and requires constant referencing of previously set alarms. The volume level is never consistent on my TV. I have to reduce on app then up on TV when it reaches into 90s. But when it works it all sounds terrific.

Great when it works which is rarely. I have 9 speakers connected to my system. I can rarely get them all working at the same time. Music drops in and out, songs quit halfway through, and sometimes the app just doesn’t respond. It could be issues with my home wifi, but it is an expensive system that works for all of my other devices so I can’t see why it would be the culprit. I use the sonos app for iOS and MacOS and they are both pretty limited. They have few, if any, features to assist me in diagnosing where the problem is. I am continually stopping and restarting the app and rebooting my devices in an effort to get the music to stream again. I have spent a lot on this and am disappointed that I might have to dump it for a different system. When it is all working, however, it is fantastic and I often play different music in different zones. Fingers crossed a future update will fix these streaming issues or at the very least give me some diagnostic tools to help identify why the connection keeps dropping out.

Constant Issues. This app throughout the years has had so many problems doing it’s only job. I’ve been through 2 houses, 3 Telstra modems, multiple phones & every update all to continue having the same issue with this refusing to just play music. It keeps pausing for up to 20 minutes at a time & I never know when these problems will occur. There is nothing wrong with my actual speaker so it has to be the app. It’s pretty embarrassing to have a $300 speaker that won’t actually play music without it constantly pausing when people are over. I would never recommend this to anyone 💔

Just gets worse each passing month. I’ve had the Sonos speaker and the app for a number of years. Adverts when using the Sonos app increase by the year and interrupt the radio mid song at about 30 minute intervals. At times, the radio station never connects as the advert at the start seems to glitch and want to play another advert. So you sit there waiting for no radio to play. You then struggle to connect other apps to the Sonos, leading to a restart of the speaker. If only Sonos focused on the speaker and the customer experience, rather than gaining extra revenue from advertising.

Weird. So just bought new Sonos products, trying to set these up which was seamless with Era 100 (s) until…We tried to set the beam and mini sub.. it weirdly says it’s not compatible with current app. Which is odd cause we have the latest version according to the app and app store.. so like this means the hardware is out of date and not compatible with the latest software? Odd. Please fix this cause I can’t set this up and use them and I love your products. Note: Work around with beam was just to use straight from the TV.. the mini sub doesn’t seem to have a work around so we currently can’t use it at all..

Good sound and handy app. Good sound from Sonos devices (as older ex construction worker my hearing has been damaged so not a true audiophile, but I can notice the sound quality sufficiently) the ability to link multiples with the app is great, however I find adjusting volume with the phone is uncertain, it’s not always clear if I am adjusting my iPhone ring volume or the speaker volume , i can of course use the slider in the app but someway of differentiating the 2 would be great. Nice products, Thanks Sonos

Lost your way?. The upgrade process from the confusing and demanding communication about cancelling speakers etc to the poor reconnection to the ineffective upgrade process has left us disappointed in the product AND WE WERE HUGE ADVOCATES!! Please fix the upgrade systems issues - working from home now has caused even more frustration.

Delay of audio, not real time. I love the amazing sound. Lost one star because I wanted to use it as a small speaker for my digital piano as well as streaming music and video soundtracks. Unfortunately probably du to some onboard processing there is quite a delay of signal even when using the mini jack input. Unless there is some solution I haven’t discovered yet I cannot use it for this purpose. Still,it sounds great and is one of the few true stereo single units of it’s type on the market. If not for this one issue would definitely rate 5/5.

It’s ok. I find the app glitchy. Frustrating it doesn’t just connect to Bluetooth. Super annoying to set up from my laptop. Annoying the app doesn’t just play from my phone music list, makes me play an alternate list through the app. Stupid that you can only play through the app, but just set up through Bluetooth. Limits usefulness of the speaker. Also means friends gave the frustration of setting g up the app if they want to run their tubes through the app. If I had of known this I would have bought a cheaper, more versatile speaker.

Absolute unreliable rubbish!. I hate this. Why do you buy a Sonos? So you can listen to music? With this App, I cannot without doing a factory reset second time I use it! I have many other systems on my WiFi and Sonos is the only one that fails. I’ve had it 6 weeks and at least once a week the whole thing requires a factory reset and randomly speakers drop off! Again, iPads, phones, MusicCast, PlayStation all working totally fine. Let’s be clear. You have to run the App to use your Sonos. So if the App is s&@$t, then the whole f$&@n Sonos is a waste of time, money and frustration! Not only do the speakers drop out but the App fails to boot up.... I Hate it so much! Do not put yourself through this pain. Stay away.

Sonas Argus 5.1 great and easy setup. Easy clear as you could imagine control shared by everyone.. Great and easy setup however after 3 months operating perfectly bugs have set in. Now sound through my arc every time I change channel or turn tv off. Have to disengage my cable HMDI to allow the hmdi arc to reconnect. Only happened this week and every attempt to resolve is fruitless. Can anyone advise.

MASSIVE BATTERY DRAIN. The new app causes massive battery drain when running in the background (I have an iPhone 8, latest iOS, etc etc). In one hour my phone, which was just sitting on my kitchen bench with the Sonos app running in the background, went from 100% charge to 70%. Have deleted the app and tried a fresh install. Still eats battery like crazy. Ugh.

Constant updates. Sonos constantly update their software, weekly on average. I always know because my surrounds stop working. When I hit update there is ALWAYS an ‘issue’, as the left and right surround have not updated. I cannot ungroup them and try to update them individually as the Sonos app does not allow it. I always stupidly try and try again to no avail, hoping to avoid the inevitable - unplugging the speakers (on stands) and taking them into another room to plug in directly next to my 5G wifi router, which I also have to unplug. After everything has been turned back on again only then can I update the left and right speakers before relocating them back in their original location behind the couch.

Slow, buggy and often crashed. Setting up system with surrounds and sub, very slow and buggy, often failed and I have to reset the individual speakers and started the slow process all over again. Sometimes crashed during set up which meant I also have to reset the speakers to redo the set up. Definitely not straight forward plug and play. During music play via app, dropped in and out too often. Nothing wrong with my internet/wifi speed as I can stream music to non-sonos devices or watch 4K movies smoothly with no problem. I don’t know whether it’s the app or the system but am thinking of returning this within their 100 days satisfaction guarantee period…

So disappointed. Beautiful speakers when you can actually get them to play music. I have a total of 6 Sonos speakers throughout my home and I can only get 3 of them to work with the app. Terrible app connectivity since the upgrade to S2. Speakers constantly disappear and often require factory reset to reconnect to the app. Third part voice integration continually drops out. I’ve gone back to a basic Bluetooth speaker to listen to music. Sonos S2 just makes it too difficult to listen to music. A complete waste of thousands of dollars on hardware that is reliant on this terrible app. I feel disappointed and ripped off. Might be time to launch a collective class action against Sonos.

Do you even performance test, bro?. Update 15/12: This SONOS product is more of an OHNO(S). Avoid like the plague: constantly drops out on same wireless network none of my other devices have problems connecting to. As a consequence the alarm often doesn’t go off AT ALL or plays the incessant Chime tone which makes me want to go postal. I’ve resorted to setting a second alarm on my phone - which defeats the point of having an alarm on a Wi-Fi speaker, no. Absolute worst. The app is buggy as hell and constantly pauses, stops, forgets what it’s doing, goes and makes a cup of tea etc. Pitiful. Worst thing I’ve ever bought and I owned a Fiat Panda once. Older review: This app is possibly the worst preforming app I’ve ever had the misfortune to need to use. I’ve spent the last 25 minutes ridden with insomnia just trying to change my alarm time for the morning. The app either randomly crashes and kicks me out or takes 30 seconds or more to even enable the System menu or just does not respond at all. How is it this hard to change an alarm setting / use an app?! And, no, my connection is fine given I’m seamlessly playing a podcast via the speaker. Honestly, get some performance testers you tight arses and get them to test. Or set yourself some decent SLAs. Or check your crash reports. T. H. E. W. O. R. S. T.

Needs improvements. Hey Sonos, your speakers are solid and good quality. However, You need to improve the app: more stable, more responsive and include the bit rate and bit depth the music or whatever is playing to easily identify whether is high resolution lossless or regular lossy audio (no way to know if you are using qobuz, for example). Additionally, Sonos should push harder to get music streaming sources better integration with their products, Tidal for example doesn’t have dolby atmos support yet neither high resolution audio (since era 300 was launched). Apple music integration with Sonos currently only offers Dolby Atmos, but no lossless or high resolution support.

Kinda wonder why they bothered. It’s effectively the exact same app, in an awful new colour. All this hype and wait and it still doesn’t fix basic functionality for voice enabled speakers. You STILL can’t run automated routines properly on Alexa. After all this time, the claim ‘works with Alexa’ on all the marketing and packaging for newer Sonos speakers is still basically untrue. The S2 controller was meant to unlock all this extra functionality and high def audio and use the firmware and hardware of new speakers...this was the reason you couldn’t run s2 on old speakers but it fixes nothing, looks the same, doesn’t fix Alexa routines but hey it comes in an awful new colour that’s not remotely related to Sonos devices which are black, and white. Why such a revolting baby p** yellow?

Most frustrating product I’ve ever bought. Great if you hate having a good audio experience. I don’t think I’ve had a single day without connection issues… insanely frustrating, customer supports, who Elster equally useless, even recommended the answer on their community messageboard for fixing a problem which included putting the speakers in the freezer….. won’t be buying anything Sonos again.

Low score reviews not representative of app quality. It appears that most negative reviews are related to hardware networking and update issues. While network configuration to properly support Sonos devices is sometimes tricky, once things are going adding/removing/moving devices is a breeze, even between wifi and Ethernet! The app itself could be way more performant and integrate with iOS a lot better e.g. widgets, now playing integration, etc. It would be great to see in depth details about the audio currently playing, such as bitrate or codec info for lossless playback.

Poor support for older Sonos devices. Sadly, my Play 1, Sonos Connect Amp and Play 3 keep disappearing from the app. I have to constantly reset them to make them appear again. This doesn’t seem to be a problem when connected directly by Ethernet. Having invested heavily in the Sonos system, this is very disappointing to say the least. I am now exploring different music platforms to replace my Sonos system when I upgrade. There are plenty of choices now that have more stable and responsive apps. Also, the new S2 app is looking very dated. Apple Music via the app is incomplete. Searching anything is unreliable.

If you’re reading this, you’ve arrived at the best home audio experience I’ve ever heard. Sonos, thank you for maintaining the highest quality audio, the new App is delivering a more cohesive experience. The new App has also given me a more pleasurable way to upgrade the previous system and it’s amazed me how the developers have thought through improving the customer experience making it easier and giving us the perfect audio experience every time 🙏👍

older speakers useless with app upgrades. Beware of Sonos rules where they disconnect your ability to play through the older model speakers, despite them being in perfect working condition. To force you to upgrade to newer models of their speakers (at a super high cost compared to their competitors) they drop your ability to use the older speakers by making them incompatible with their app upgrades. So for a while I had to run two different versions of the Sonos app just to play on two different speakers (older model and newer model) - which defeats the whole purpose of Sonos which is to be able to sync multiple speakers through your house. And over the past year I can’t event get the original speaker to work through the app at all. It’s now basically a paper weight - despite having no technical issues with the actual speaker. Out of principle I ain’t buying another speaker. Other far cheaper brands are much easier to use and can sync together throughout the house.

Beware of this update!!!. Took me over an hour to get my system back up & running after installing this update. Wouldn’t find or recognise speakers, wouldn’t connect to speakers, forgot wifi for all speakers. Left me totally tearing my hair out. Now my main system often won’t show up, just a single speaker. Only way to regain control of the system is to quit the app, turn that single speaker off, re-open app with speaker still off & then my main system is there & I can reboot the other speaker. Pretty pathetic.

What a rip off. This app has major stability issues sonos support do not understand the difference between a wifi mesh system and an extender. I have a mesh system which has the same ssid through the house. The app was working fine support tell me to go and rename each wifi device because i have different devices on my network. clearly no clue that a mesh system has the same ssid and is supposed to then he flatly refused to help me everything was working fine no changes my end and no other device/app has an issue except for this one but he would not listen. Coincidentally they did an update a few days back he did everything he could do to deflect from taking any responsibility even telling me to contact my service provider to help me with the only issue i have which is sonos. Lol how can I possibly recommend this to anyone? Sonos if you actually read this can some there give me some proper support? Also I unplugged the other wifi mesh point so its just the router now no other devices and guess what same issue- major stability issues so over to you sonos….. I expect nothing but silence

Extremely buggy and frustrating app. For nearly 10 years we’ve filled our home with Sonos products and we initially loved them. They are expensive but used to be worth it. No longer. The S2 app - it’s awful and just won’t play nice with Apple Music or iOS. It’s riddled with bugs and is so S L O W. We are so fed up seeing the “spinning wheel of waiting”. The volume control in the app is appalling - it either just doesn’t work or has a delay from a few seconds to 20+ seconds. SONOS, drop everything and FIX your iOS S2 app. It’s embarrassing and severely compromises the quality and reputation of your product and business.

Love My Sonos. Just moved into an apartment, & being surrounded by concrete I couldn’t get my favourite radio station. Now I just click on a button & instantly Sonos comes to life keeping me company all day long, as well as giving me all the latest news stories. I have a speaker in 2 rooms so i hear it as I move around my apartment…I leave it on all day so when I arrive home I am greeted by my favourite radio jocks…many thanks to my friend for installing this for me 😊

Backward step. Sorry guys. I never leave negative reviews but this new version of sonos is a big step backwards. It’s painfully slow. All I want to do is open the app to change song or change volume and it takes forever. Never happened with the old version. There’s really no excuse. You only have to do one thing - play music. Why not do that well? Forget everything else. Play music please. If I hadn’t already invested a few hundred dollars in the speakers i would have dropped Sonos already. I’m hanging in there but you ain’t making it easy guys. Please support your customers like me. We just want an app that works. Is that too much to ask for? Very frustrating!!!

Sound of music. The healing sound of music in our lives is essential to our overall wellbeing. Music fills the void between the physical and the empty space that surrounds us. Beautiful music can only become food for the soul when the sound quality is as close to what the artist intended as possible. All my research kept brining me back to Sonos! Room by room I am adding the system and each time a new Sonos product arrives it not only changes the mood of the house but add a whole new dimension to the time I spend at home. When I unpack and set up each time I always seem to say to myself “This is a great product” thanks to the team at Sonos it’s really is a great product and service you have created.

Disappointed. Very disappointed with this system. Yes on the rare occasion when everything is working the sound is great, but the problem is 90% of the time I spend half the night trying to connect the speakers. They are constantly dropping out, especially the Sonos sub and the Sonos One left and right speakers. It’s very rare that I turn on the tv and all speakers are working, there is always at least one that has dropped out and to tell you the truth it’s really starting to p$&$ me off!! This problem needs to be rectified immediately, for the money you charge for your sound system it is just not good enough!!

Complete disregard to existing customers. Sonos cannot be trusted and has built in reduncy within its Apps. Overnight SONOS disabled my S1 app and made my speakers redundant. They no longer operate from my phone due to them updating the App and I can’t even roll it back so I can operate my speakers. Disgusting service and would have never purchased their speakers if knew they had complete of them and overnight disabled them. Help Desk I had agreed to their terms and conditions by buying the speakers and installing the App and it was also my fault because I had ticked “automatic updates” that was responsible for making my speakers only working with S2 app but my phone was not compatible with S2

Great products, disappointing app.. I had a play 5 which we’d been using for a number of years and were very happy with, great design and sound quality all in a relatively small speaker. When we needed a portable Bluetooth speaker I didn’t hesitate to buy a Sonos Roam. However set up was terrible. I wasted hours trying to get the speaker set up. You have to download a new Sonos app (why 2 apps?) and then I discovered my old play 5 was not compatible with the new speaker and had to be managed on the old app. To make things worse I’d set up my Sonos account so long ago it had an old email address. When I tried to update the email it asked me to verify but I never received any email. I was then effectively blocked from doing anything in both apps. I still can’t use the new roam because it is not properly set up. Tech should be an enabler not a blocker!! Really disappointing Sonos, you’re experts in sound and design but your tech leaves a lot to be desired.

I bought a system and you only deliver speakers. FOMO made me do it. I thought that at one stage S1 products would be sent to Sonos heaven and I’d be left with the corpse. I took the bait and used my upgrade credits to get new gear and S2 functionality. What a struggle. 2 days of resetting, reconnecting, wifi restarting, button pressing fun. Eventually I have connected the 2 ones and 2 fives and sure they sound great… when they connect. The app takes anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds to find the system and has even totally forgotten I own any Sonos gear at times. I’ve bitten the bullet to connect another phone via the app to the system but I’ve not been successful. It scares me when it can’t find the system and asks me to reconnect speakers as I don’t have another 2 days in me. Sonos, you sell a system not speakers. Everyone who has commented on here with app issues has paid at least $500 for the pleasure. The app is an integral part of our purchases. Just because it’s “free” on App Store it doesn’t mean you get to support it poorly. A sign to me that you don’t think the app is important is that no one from Sonos ever appears to comment on any of the feedback provided here. Very disappointed about my “upgrade”. The real world experience and the poor performance of purchased components is probably a breach on consumer law. I’ll consider downgrading to S1

Disappointment since dropping play direct from iPhone option. I am totally disappointed with constant drop outs of audio which makes it so frustrating to listen to music that, in anger, I switch the whole system off. Whether I use wifi or sonosnet, the situation doesn’t improve. Given that the 2.4Ghz band is very crowed and only 3 channel options are available to sonosnet, it is beggars belief that there are not more options made available. I never had issues when I could play music directly off my iPhone direct to the speakers. Please Sonos bring this feature back, leave it up to us to decide if we want to use it or not, but it worked. As for the app updates, pretty looking albums don’t cut when you can’t listen the uninterrupted music. Are we here to look at pretty pictures or listen to awesome music? Concentrate on making the streaming options the best they can be, not making album covers the main topic. We want our music streaming back and we deserve it now. I’ve spent thousands of dollars putting Sonos throughout my home and my better half thinks it was all a big waste of money. All I ask is bring back the play direct from iPhone option for us to decide if we want to use it, not tell us it didn’t work when it did.

Menu problems. I wonder if I have missed something.. To me the software is poorly designed, the features distributed haphazardly over badly named submenues making it hard to find what you are looking for. The controls offered to adjust the sound do not seem to do much if anything and the sound profile with screaming music and muffled speech so preferred by modern day filmmakers could not be adjusted satisfactorily. Update After a change of wifi network settings the software never completes the reconnection routine in this software. It really is terrible.

SONAS. Absolutely the best device we have ever purchased. The music we choose is phenomenal. Also music that automatically comes on our list is amazing. SONAS has changed our life forever. Anyone reading this then please buy this as you will absolutely be amazed and love it for the rest of your life. It will enrich the quality of your life. The choice of anyone’s music is endless. All I can say now is THANK YOU, THANK YOU SONAS FOREVER.

Updates are breaking the system. I have multiple Sonos Ones around the home and an Arc and Sub for the TV. Some units complete their updates fine, while others fail and the unit goes off line. Right now the Arc + Sub just failed it's update (Error 30) and is now disabled pending a successful update, so, no home entertainment system. Sonos support's solution for Error 30 is to bring the Sonos device closer to the router. Completely absurd, as it's connected via ethernet cable about 2m from the router. Sonos, please, please allow me to use my Sonos devices in the case of a failed update. This happened about a month ago with a Sonos One and after about 10 device resets and 30 update attempts, a new version of the Sonos app came out and the update then worked flawlessly. Sort your *hit out, PLEASE! Otherwise, great app :-/

Untimely updates. I’m a great Sonos fan I have more than six devices but I find it unacceptable that while playing music during a dinner party for example Sonos force an update on me. How terribly embarrassing to have to explain to the guests that you are fixing a technical issue with Sonos during a meal. Surely it should be an option to update now or choose a time later. This is happened many times causing embarrassing moments and I blame it on Sonos which is giving the brand a bad vibe. Come on Sonos give us the option. Apart from that great equipment.

It's ok. Not much to say: it works, is easy to set up and aesthetically not intrusive. Can I tell the difference? Is it a sound experience? Sorry, can't tell the difference. Hasn't made any difference in console gaming, don't know when it comes to programs; and music -well, it's music. It's ok with karaoke. Does a program have to be promoted as surround sound? I don't pay much attention to all that; I don't watch movies that much. An idiot friend wet himself going on about it, so I purchased it; I guess I'm the idiot. It gets the job done; it doesn't blow me every time I listen to music or watch a movie.

I hate Sonos…. Okay here is my genuine experience with no exaggeration. I have Sonos Arc, the Sub and 4 x One’s. The speakers all sound good - that’s not the issue! They’re not amazing but very good. Bass could be a bit more solid but generally good high to low end. The painful torment of persistent updates that brick my system is the real issue. Because it doesn’t matter how good something sounds if it doesn’t make any sound when you want it to. Yes, I am a digital expert, I know how to troubleshoot the issues and always have to run a 30m Ethernet cable to each device to update them because Sonos error 30 plagues my system via my Telstra 5g router and I have tried other routers too! Trust me when I say I’ve tried everything and spent so many hours doing useless updates for no real gain. I hate you Sonos. I will sell the lot and buy and competitor offering that can update wirelessly without frequent issues OR a good old fashioned system that doesn’t require updates. Again, in case it wasn’t clear - I hate Sonos. Don’t purchase. Stay away.

Downhill. Pains me to say, since the original app was quite good, that this app is now extraordinarily bad. Cover art doesn’t update for ages, the controls are unresponsive at times. Try adding a song to the playlist or editing it. A loading spinner appears and half the changes don’t stick, or just don’t display unless you reload the app. I’m sorry but I’ve never seen an app fall so far this fast. I’ve looked hard for reasons to upgrade to S2 but apart from different colours in the app, what’s different? Everything is less reliable and slower now. S1 nolonger working with my Playbar, sub and Play 5’s. What a poor experience that has left me sizing up other hardware brands now when two years ago I wouldn’t have looked away from Sonos. I don’t feel taken care of as a customer and now I also pass my thoughts on to those that I talk to. Change your strategy and get better.

great when everything works. ARC SUB (most recent gen) One SL (one each - bathroom, bedroom) or as Surrounds for Arc & Sub. Generally no problem to move connect & configure, if there’s problem? Day’s to learn wont pair on WiFi, when u set Arc & Sub direct ethernet ** *** for everything Sonos toy, learn how to manual force a reboot, its ‘factory fresh’ then Easy to install? So long as the auto set up gets everything right. no access to manual inputs, not even Support that should be able to adjust when all your gear is online. leads to Network, despite what they say, mine runs great on the 5G band of the modem WiFi, once selected, no changing it without a factory reset. Was putting Arc and Sub back on ethernet cable, after using surrounds all on WiFi, OOps aforgot I borrowed the Sub’s cable... Sonos could not get the sub to do anything, I rebooted Sub 3 times, Sonos, could not even connect it back up to Arc, and TV. I started drinking heavily, and problem fixed the following day, that is by the time I checked. Think I must have rebooted everything in the house, including self!

Great kit and software. Anyone thinking of looking for a new sound system that seamlessly connects to their music should seriously consider Sonos, for me it should be at the top of the list . For quality , ease of use and value it’s difficult to go past it. There are other alternatives but there’s nothing like a Sonos system or even standalone items in their list of choices. I have at home, holliday home and office it just makes sense.

Amateur hour. Some of the design implementation in the new version feels extremely poorly done. The slide up panels and their background appear with a jarring effect, the floating now playing around is offset on all sides except the bottom, and we still don’t have a dark mode? Picture this, I’m sitting in my lounge with the lights out listening to Pink Floyd and I just want to change the bass settings...great now I’m blinded by the shades of grey that have been picked to bore us to death. Functionally the app is fine enough but there needs to be some serious focus on the last 10% to bring this app up to standard. If you’re going to create your own design language it has to be better than what you’re given for free in iOS, presently it is not.

Awesome app. I switched to Sonos in July of 2022 because I wanted a great sound system but I wanted to be able to control it from my iPhone because I have Cerebral palsy and find using a normal remote control difficult. I currently have x1 arc with x2 gen 3 sub i plan to get a pair of era 300 as surround speakers to complete my Dolby atmos setup. Can’t wait to see what Sonos do for the gen 4 sub hopefully it’s a big upgrade with bigger drivers and more power. The same for the arc my friend and I did a test the arc puts out 85watts rms the next gen arc needs to be at least 100watts rms minimum. Arc Soundbar 85 WATTS RMS 120 WATTS PEAK Gen 3 Subwoofer: 211 WATTS RMS 299 WATTS PEAK

Roam. Just bought two Roam mini speakers. Only bought one to start with, I was so impressed with the sound quality I had to have a stereo pair which was probably the easiest to pair, with magical sound and idea for a iPad or phone to stream radio or music, even movies! The only problem I had was to change my email address and create a new system, once that was complete, now can stream to my other 6 speakers around the house. Every room covered, plus the garden with the Roam’s.

Why did they bother. It can’t find how to search the whole of Apple Music even though I have a subscription, it just searches my library. It says it is searching all but it isn’t, e.g. can’t find Beatles Blue Album. You have to first use the Apple Music App to find what you want, add it to your library, and then Sonos will find it. A real pain. Have tried to get support from Sonos both on web and lodging a ticket. Did not respond to either. Don’t upgrade from S1; much more functional App, e.g. works properly with Apple Music. Unfortunately once you have upgraded you can’t downgrade. If you are thinking of buying into Sonos, don’t if you use Apple Music.

What’s wrong. The app has been working really badly stops all the time when I am streaming music I can stream stuff off my phone , and the app is starting to get harder to work I will turn something on downstairs and it won’t connect, I usually have to do it three times to make it work

Always connecting... ridiculous. I have the sonos amp for more than a year and it works great. But when it comes to this app, O continuously have problems, not being able to connect and not finding my amp. An absolute crap setup. Professional wifi using unifi dream machine pro that's been working 100% across my place for everything else in the world. Really Sonos - what is this?

Sooo bad…. Inconsistant, soooo slow to respond to command, so complicated, I am always frustrated with Sonos…

Always something with Sonos, sad to report. When Sonos works, the system is amazingggggg. But it is constantly plagued with issues. The music cuts out constantly for no reason. It’s impossible to pair speakers (my friends go through this as well. I got the Play 5 for the sole purpose of using it with my turntable but when I stream music, it often stops for no reason and defaults to “Line in” (used for the turntable) and music won’t stream anymore. The speakers sound amazing and walking through the house and having music everywhere consistently is the best…when it works. I’m currently looking at other compact options to play vinyl as the headaches with Sonos are not making it worth it, sad to say.

Easy migration to nee Sonos upgraded app but wifi connection keeps dropping within thr spp. No issues to migrate onto my iPhone 8S. Everything worked well for a day then when i launched the app, it could not find the wifi. Frustrating.

I want to love Sonos but….. I’ve had Sonos speakers for close to 10 years and the sound quality is next to none, when it works properly. It seems that every update to the app makes it worse. Reconnecting has always been an issue and is beyond annoying but now the controls seem to be botched as well. I can no longer control the volume with the side volume buttons on my phone and the display doesn’t show up on the locked screen. Both very basic functions but still they were both functions that used to exist. Please fix the issues and then LEAVE IT ALONE. This update is way past due and definitely has me looking at alternative stereo solutions.

So disappointing. It’s too late for me but I would recommend anyone who considering this product to steer clear. The app is so terrible it complete diminishes anything great about the hardware. This isn’t a new issue. And it doesn’t seem to be getting fixed.

Connection Issues. Trying to select Sonos speakers out of the Spotify app results in errors. The Sonos app will often show music playing but there’s no sound. Porting over from S1 was hours of trouble shooting. Garbage.

Buggy. Hope you get your stuff together Sonos. This app has become slow and buggy. Love your products but the software has become frustrating

Frustrating regression in functionality. I am writing this review as a long-time user of the Sonos app. The decision to remove the ability to control speaker volume using the iPhone and iPad volume buttons (in version 15.6) is a big step backward in user experience. The removal of volume control using physical buttons has significantly reduced the convenience of the Sonos app. This change has been aggravating. The previous functionality was intuitive and practical, allowing quick adjustments without the need to navigate within the app. Now, it feels like an unnecessary chore to pull up the app every time I want to make volume adjustments. I hope the developers will figure out a way to bring back the former functionality. Until then, I find it difficult to fully enjoy an app that has taken a step back in user-centered design.

Beyond Frustrating. I LOVE Sonos speakers. Getting them all to connect and STAY connected is an exercise in frustration I’m up to 6 speakers now and they ALL disappeared 3 days ago…cannot get them connected Effortlessly set up your system….NOT!

App has become useless. App is no longer allowing me to run Trueplay or update my speakers Sonos support is all but useless. Standard “uninstall and reinstall app”, reboot router, etc., none of which help. Next step is to blame my network. Network has changed in years. Problems just started a few updates ago.

Worst app. Why spend so much money on a system that is never working properly. This probably the worst investment you can make in your lifetime. It always says that you aren’t connected to wifi but you are. There’s never an explanation for that mistake from Sonos.

Glitchy. Every time they do an update I loose one or more of my speakers off the room list. This is on my iPad 4 and an iPhone 8.I often have to delete and re download the app to finally see them populate again. I have a bit better luck on my iphone XR but it happens sometimes on that as well. It was better before Sonos started doing all these updates since about 4 months ago

Terrible. Please fix

Too much time on app!!!. Spend most of the time fooling around with app now. Not listening to music but playing with Sonos app. Given up now and don’t use it last three months at all. Your lost.

App Has full screen ads. The app is okay, but does weird things like send you out of the app to review the TOS but approve it back in the app. Probably the most frustrating is the full page ads that pop up regularly.

Stay with the S1. This is the most buggy, disconnects all the time piece of software i’ve seen in a long time... don’t even try to reach someone for some help... I did download it in good faith but wish I didn’t, previously never had an ounce of problem with my two units, One SL... won’t let me go back to the S1 system...

doesn’t work. I tried downloading S2 several times and I was never able to use it. Because of that I haven’t been able to use my Sonos bar for 2 months since S1 doesn’t work either. Very disappointed with this tentative upgrade of the app by Sonos.

No in sinc. New app doesn’t work as well

True play tuning is a total scam. I hate this app with a passion. I have a brand new iPhone 13 pro max and the room is dead silent yet this true play feature never works and keeps saying there’s too much background noise. You could literally hear a pin drop in here. Glad I bought the speakers for this feature. Guess what? They are all being returned now.

Ad. I have start receiving ads when I open it and it bug me Many changes not announced This morning my apple subscription was gone, it took me for ever to figure it out

Expensive system that is overly complicated to connect.. Speakers 1/10th of the price are easier to connect.

App doesn’t work anymore. I’ve tried everything and the app no longer works for me, says the app cannot find Sonos system on my device, even though the device works from my husbands phone on the same network I’ve reinstalled the app, and still same thing.

Frustrating. The app and system will randomly lose connection and sometimes you can’t turn off your own music. Which is pretty brutal. Be nice if they had a customer service department to help you fix this kind of thing. But they don’t.

Pairs always out of sync. Have two fives and they are always out of sync if you use high quality music stations. Not worth the money!

Connectivity. System always freezes and I have to reset.

My Play 1 is Obsolete. Thanks to the updates with these apps, my Play:1 is obsolete. I can no longer connect to my speaker, because the set up menu no longer offers the “alternative method.” In the past I set up my speaker with an Ethernet, and afterward I was able to connect through wifi. But now neither this or the older app will connect. It’s such a shame, I have a perfectly good speaker that has worked for me for years, but I can’t use it because of new app/connectivity issues. The info on the Sonos website (from the link that the setup menu prompted me to read) is also out of date, and refers to options/messages that no longer appear in the setup process.

Flawless update. Got no problem updating my system. I can now use groups and the new controller UI. Very happy

Absolute crap. Tons of issues connecting it almost never works on your first try, and disconnecting is the same sometimes it just keeps on playing ever AFTER I DELETE THE APP LIKE WHAT!!!!

Give Me A Break With The Updates. Far too often - approx once/month, the app blocks you from playing music, and sometimes blocks you from pausing or lowering the volume of a track that is currently playing, until you perform an update. Sometimes the update is simple, and takes a few minutes, but sometimes you have to update some or all the devices/speakers. It’s just really dang inconvenient. Two stars for the speakers, which sound great!

Won’t work on your iPhone if you don’t have the current OS.. The installer says it will work but it doesn’t. Wish I could go back one update. Zero stars for this update. Do not install if you don’t want to buy a new iPhone. Pretty soon all our devices will just cease to work and I will go back to playing cd’s on random play. Planned obsolescence sucks.

Continued problems. I continue to have problems with Sirius on Sonos. I am not happy.

Apple needs to change rating system. Apple needs to change their rating system so that it calculates the rating based on the reviews from the past year. There is absolutely no way this Sonos app is a 4.6 out of 5 app. It used to be 5 years ago, but I can’t imagine any human being giving this app more than 2 stars based on its current performance.

Was working fine..... Now it continues to drop speakers off my system. Something happened at Sonos, it’s almost like some important knowledgeable person left... Miss the old app, I could easily use my laptop. So a few things changed my former 5 star rating.

Avoid. This app invades your privacy to a level that is not even reasonable… The app is riddled with their own in-house music channels and advertisements…and tries to force you into their own ecosystem...they tried to make older speaker obsolete by killing the software...they can still do it..return your speakers asap!

Terrible. Ever since the upgrade to Sonos to I’ve had nothing but troubles speakers cut out continually and unable to connect from the iPad controller never had issues with the old one. disappointing!!!

Great when it works, frustrating when buggy. It’s frustrating that the system seems to be temperamental. There is no pattern to the inconsistency of when the app can find the speakers and when they cannot connect.

Restricted m, stiff and disabled. Absolutely hate the layout and how you search. I’ve used Apple Music, Google Play, Spotify and YouTube Music. Those apps are great but when fudged through Sonos they’re all equally useless! Why can’t Sonos just heel over and enable the apps to play directly to Sonos speakers? It’s 2020!!! My next speaker will not be Sonos unless they change their act!

Great sound terrible app. My music sounds incredible!!… when the app actually lets me play a song instead of giving me an error. I don’t normally write reviews.. I used to love my speakers years ago but how are we almost in 2024 with this terrible of an app for speakers with such a high price point?! PLEASE WORK ON APP BUGS!!!! I’m so sick of this awful user experience.

Never seen a app that doesn’t work like Sonos. Show some respect please. We are in 2024. Never seen a app that doesn’t work like Sonos. Show some respect please. We are in 2024

Show some love to iOS. I miss those days where I can control the volume by the buttons of iOS. No support for shortcuts app No support for Siri. No iOS Widgets No Apple TV app (Spotify does and great) I use Spotify app more to play on Sonos speakers rather then then Sonos app itself The only one update I see on the app is showing messages for Boxing Day sale etc.

No longer synch. Synch music from media server was working great and I would have rated 5 stars. Latest upgrade changed my opinion. What was a functioning service no longer works at all. Perhaps they should have been using Bluetooth all along. If I changed my system will be leaning towards bose

Sounds good. Software terrible. Absolute garbage software Continuous updates that prevent you from simply listening to music. Stop requiring updates to listen to my music through a product I purchased Would not recommend

App won’t connect after iOS 17.1.1. Unless there’s something wrong with my arc (it still works), after updating to iOS 17.1.1, the app no longer sees the soundbar connected to WiFi

Horrible App. I’m not sure why, but this new app causes nothing but problems for me. When I go back to the old app, my system works perfectly. This new one constantly drops out the audio between stereo pairs; and makes what was once a good system - horrible. Please address that.

Forced updates continue to break things. Why do you force your users to update? It’s incredibly annoying, and most of the time when I do, it breaks things - I have to redo the setup as it loses speakers. Very frustrating, absolutely unnecessary.

Sonos. Trouble app. Takes too long to load if it loads at all

Great sound, restrictive app. There’s literally a thousand speakers out there with great sound, this is one of the few that force you through their own app. The only music it will play is from my phone, if my wife logs in from her phone she is only offered my music. It’s frustrating, because the music over wifi is awesome, and playing different music across multiple speakers is sweet, but a proprietary app is such a dick move

Pointless. I tried it and went back to S1 immediately... Glitchy, asked me to set up my speakers again... So disapointing from Sonos, you were leaders in 2010, but have dropped big time. APP is so pointless. Don’t download this beige app people!

Constantly Unrelable. When it works, it’s great. But about 50% of the time Sonos has problems. It says the signal is unstable, even though every computer and streaming TV in the house is working fine. Some of the speakers disconnect randomly. The music is constantly coming off and on, making a thoroughly unenjoyable experience. When it’s working correctly, the sound quality is superb, but the unreliability of the system is an ongoing frustration. I have invested in five speakers, getting my last speaker less than a year ago thinking I just needed to modernize the system, but it still fails regularly. It is a running joke with my friends that every party or gathering I am fiddling with the Sonos trying to get it to work instead of socializing with guests. I’ve had professionals come in to try to troubleshoot, and they fix it for a short time and then it’s back to square one. Miserable experience with Sonos now for more than five years.

Core controls unreliable + worsening UX. So in addition to all the things that made Sonos easy to use gradually going downhill, now the core player controls don’t want to work sometimes. Stuff like play, next track, prev track will now glitch on me and not register with the player, despite seeming to register in the UI. That’s in addition to things like no longer getting the track controls in the lock screen half the time, volume sometimes requiring me to find and manipulate the on-screen slider instead of my phone’s physical buttons for volume, and the ever-confusing playlist feature that occasionally decides to keep playing music from a week ago after playing one song from the album or playlist you thought you put on. I’d only ever use Spotify’s remote play functionality, but the AirPlay functionality or whatever it is can be futzy and require several attempts to both recognize and play my media on the Sonos (usually at least 2-3 attempts before it will play). Love my speaker, pretty constantly annoyed by the app.

This app is the highest degree of trash. This app is infuriating. I have had two play:1s and a gen 2 play:5 and a beam for years. All working flawlessly. Then I got a gen3 sub and arc. Worked fine for a few weeks and the initial setup was classic Sonos: easy and quick. The products themselves sound great. I have been a rave reviewer of Sonos as a company for years. But this app makes my system literally unusable. As of a few days ago, my entire system was removed from my settings. Now I cannot even add multiple products to the same room. I’ve done factory resets on every device, tried adding them/linking them in different orders. Literally can’t get it to work after hours of trying. Update/fix this. Your wonderful products are unusable without a properly functioning controller/setup. Can’t even get the sub and arc to link and be in the same room and connected to one another (let alone add my play:1s as surrounds) with the current nonsense happening with the app. Absolute crap. Someone should be working round the clock to fix this at the price you sell these things for.

Unreal Quality. I use the Sonos Playbar on every room that has a TV so right under them and by themselves they impress. On the patio deck by the pool I power 8” woofer non Sonos rock speakers around the pool (4 of them) and also other wall mounted outdoor speakers with the amazing Sonos amps (what’s sound). In my family room I have a Sonos sub (WOW unchallenged bass) and ceiling speakers also with Sonos amps behind them for that incredible sound. Connecting living/dinning ceiling speakers also powered by Sonos amps so it all extends well (only thing missing another sub in that living room as well but waiting for the opportunity to do so). I swear by this stuff and find it difficult to think how Bose can even come close to competing. One more thing, the Sonos MOVE is an amazing extra toy for the beach or a room inside which reminds me, I want Sonos Ones in rooms without a TV. Need Sonos car stereos ….

Far better than expected. Ever since the new app came out years ago I delayed upgrading. I read all of the horrible reviews. I had six speakers and they worked pretty well. So why bother? Two months ago I had to upgrade my router from a six year old Google mesh to an Orbi when I upgraded from Comcast to fiber optic internet. My internet was awesome but my Sonos sucked. I had nothing but problems. So I upgraded to the new Sonos app. It was a little bit of a pain to get everything working but once I did the new app has been almost flawless. I never lose speakers. I’m deducting one star because every once in a while the app doesn’t see my speakers when I go to switch stations or change the volume. I have to close the app, reopen it, and wait a few seconds. In general, I’m exceptionally pleased with it.

You need a bachelors degree on computer programming if you want a Sonos speaker. Prepare yourself to go back to college for a bachelors degree on computer programming. If you want to do a simple task of pairing, two speakers, same model for stereo sound you’ll spend at least a day trying to figure out what is wrong you will need to first download the app second figure out, how to place each speaker on the same network then each speaker needs to recognize the network. If one of them doesn’t recognize the network, there is no way you compare them after you need to make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your device then if you’re lucky, and all the stars of line, one speaker my recognize another if not be prepared for a chase just like if you were in the shining chasing like Jack Nicholson was chasing at the end of the movie I will never buy another Sonos speaker. A simple function of Bluetooth pairing should be enough how hard can that be to program us a speaker to recognize another speaker?

Great sound but terrible app. I have never used a more complicated app for a speaker! I hate connecting anything by sonos because I know it’s going to become an hour long headache. The other day I was trying to connect a speaker to my iPad and it took me 45 minutes! I followed every instruction. This happens every time I try to add a new speaker. We have had so many companies come to fix them but every time we still have issues. We made the mistake of getting them throughout the house and now are stuck with using them. We upgraded to the best WiFi possible hoping it would make connecting easier. Well that quickly proved to be useless. After that, one of the built in speakers stopped working. The app is simple but it never connects! You just have to sit, pray and press buttons hoping you will get lucky. Do not get Sonos! (unless you have lots of free time and enjoy headaches.) It’s a shame because the speakers are quality and sound great! But the app needs some work.

This app is crap!. Every time I get my Sonos Play:1 to connect to this app, within a couple of days it’s s not working again. Then I have to waste half an hour trying to get the app to talk to the speaker by turning it off and on again, going through the reconnecting process in the app, turning the router off and on again, and when all else fails, connecting the speaker directly to the router in my basement by Ethernet which gets the app to work temporarily because then I have to disconnect it again and put it back where I like to use it in the main part of the house and hope it will still connect. What good is a wireless connection when it only works some of the time? I don’t know what kinds of updates they have made to the app, but it used to be reliable and now it’s just crap. I know it’s not the speaker because the speaker works great when I can get it to talk to this crap app. The Play:1 may be an older model, but it should still be supported by the Sonos app. Is this planned obsolescence or just completely incompetent support? I can’t decide.

Really good system. I love my Sonos system. It does glitch from time to time, but overall it is an awesome system. I have 5 zones. I have 2 Sonos One SL’s paired with a Sonos sub gen 2 , one of the latest Sonos amps driving a pair of Bose 251 outdoor speakers, one of the older Sonos amps driving a pair of Klipsch AW-650’s with a klipsch sub, one of the older Sonos amps driving 2 Definitive Technology in ceiling 6.5 inch speakers and a Sonos move. All of them sound great! I also added the Sonos boost because I was having a ton of problems with some of the zones not connecting to the app. I was almost to the point of returning all the Sonos equipment, until I got the boost. It made a world of difference. The app still needs some work. When I am listening to XM the song listed is not always the song playing. And the interaction with Apple Music is a lot different then the way the Apple Music app works. Bottom line, when it works correctly it sounds great and I love being able to control all the different zones.

Updated review.. Couldn’t find my original review so I’ll do this one as an update. Original review was about two stars. After a week or so of use, I’m giving this Sonos Roam a 3 star review. I like the ease of use in adding wake-up alarms, adding my music service is easy, Alexa and Sonos voice assistance works well for a music player. Small size makes it easy to carry and water resistance is a plus. Problems: Bluetooth should just work like it does with every other portable speaker, you have to setup Wi-Fi first with Sonos. This works against using it ‘on the go’. What happens if I’m camping without Wi-Fi or AP on my cell phone and need to reset the device? Holding the button should work by beep counts instead of length of press time, which makes it harder to control Bluetooth. Sometimes it just works and other times you have to set Bluetooth a few times to get it to work. I’ve see the blue light blinking yet Bluetooth worked and I’ve seen a solid blue light with the song playing on my cell or iPad yet silence. Overall I like the device so will be keeping it. Initial setup was a challenge and not very user friendly, I got it to work because I like gadgets and challenges. An average first time Sonos user would probably return it and buy something easier to setup and use.

Expensive and unreliable. We regret purchasing this Sonos system but are stuck with this expensive system that doesn’t work. I don’t often write reviews but after our Sonos system keeps going off and on and has been since it was installed (by a pro AV company), I felt compelled to express my dissatisfaction. We had a Sonos system installed in our newly build home about 3 years ago. We went all in on Sonos complete with in-ceiling speakers and high end routers throughout. The company that installed it, Chesapeake AV have come multiple times to fix the problems with the Sonos system but seem to have just given up. The biggest issue is that it stops playing all the time. Doesn’t matter what we are listening to music or TV shows, it plays for a bit then cuts out. We have to restart the app, or the TV or the Sonos system for it to play again. We’ve done every trouble shoot recommended by Sonos and called customer service. Half the time we’re listening to music on our Google home device.

5-Star Sound, 1 Star Interface. Easy to set up and configure, the Sonos system delivers rich, full-bodied sound, in a small, tidy package. The user interface on the mobile app is simple enough to understand, but the lag time between command and response is a huge bummer. Too often the phone app can’t connect to the system, doesn’t respond to a command, or takes up to 30 seconds to respond. I’ve accidentally turned the volume up too high, then the app won’t respond when trying to turn it down. Or tried to fast forward an explicit song with guests over, and the app won’t respond. Unable to skip a sappy love ballad during a backyard barbecue that kills the upbeat vibe… The most obvious culprit would be the network connection/speed, although we have hubs throughout the house, and I work online from home, kids play live video games, and stream movies with never a buffer or delay. Very frustrating…

A tip for those having problems. The app isn’t that great, but I think better than the older one and has a few more tricks up its sleeve. I updated my play base\sub \ ones to the new gen 2 versions. After hours of fiddling I worked out the right song and dance to go through (which involved plugging and unplugging everything in a very particular and undocumented order) and eventually got the ones paired to the play base but could never get the sub to reconnect (it would configure on its own but that’s useless). Ultimately the fix came from running a Ethernet cable to the play base and factory resetting each of the other devices. After that setup worked like a charm... none of the error 800 or error 1001’s many of you have been getting. If you are still having trouble I suggest giving that a crack.

Forced Updates. Sonos now effectively *forces* updates to your system by programmatically degrading performance and inhibiting functionality until you do the update. To make matters worse, sometimes the updates fail, take multiple times to apply, or cause more problems than their “features” are worth. As it is, the system is precarious at best, often being impacted by the most minute environmental fluctuations. If you breathe too heavily, it may cause a speaker to disconnect, and throw your entire system out of kilter. Then good luck doing an update. When it works, it’s fabulous, but the concept of forcing updates to a stable environment is absolutely ludicrous and just another example of a heavy-handed, draconian company trying to mandate how are you manage the system that you have paid for. Some good advice Sonos: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Leave our products alone and give consumers a CHOICE!! And Sonos is notoriously putting out new updates that offer little if any benefit, and always throw the system out of whack. Buyers remorse. BAD COMPANY.

TV to Sonos disconnect. I’ve have the Sonos system (sound bar and 2 play ones) for at least 5 years. My biggest frustration with the system is the lip sync with the TV. I have now owned two TV brands ( older Toshiba and 2022 OLED Sony). I thought that with the purchase of a new Sony TV, the lip sync would correct itself with updated technology but unfortunately it has not. For a partial system that’s $1000, you’d expect to at least be able to watch TV without buying converters and reading countless articles on how to sync up. Sonos has no corrections for the issue and the only option is to buy more or newer Sonos products to fix the issue.. which isn’t guaranteed and who wants to cough up another $700 on a playbar? Good for playing music and probably great for a home office or gym as it operates on WiFi but not ideal for a home entertainment system.

The Worst Tech. I’ve invested over $2k in Sonos products. In the early days it was pretty slick; good looking speakers, really nice sound, and the convenience of wireless! But, as they released new software versions Sonos came down with a fatal flaw…the speakers will not stay connected to the Sonos network. They constantly disconnect and the only way to reconnect them is to close and open the app several times, restart the wireless router, unplug and replug the speaker power, go through the product set up sequence twice, throw some salt over your right shoulder, then pray. It’s absolutely ridiculous. In fact, as I write this review, I’m listening to a Play 5 speaker that, by miracle, connected to the Sonos network. I want to pause the music, but the app “cannot connect to the device”. The music is literally playing as it’s giving me this message. I have a Play 1 that simply will not connect after hours of fiddling with it, updating the firmware, etc. It’s officially a $200 paperweight. I would never buy another Sonos product after years of this frustrating experience and waste of money.

Incredible sound incredibly unstable. I’ve been on the Sonos system for several years, and for the reason of the quality of the sound no doubt the best but , the simplicity of connecting is another thing. The app is supposed to make that a breeze but it doesn’t.Sonos doesn’t advertise that some of their newest speakers can’t adapt to 2.4 ghz to 5 ghz router, all meaning that a user that isn’t very tech savvy spends an inordinate amount of time trying to get their speakers to connect with an app that consistently suggests turning off the system and unplugging the router. Tech support? Well in more than a few instances they’ll tell you you need a new router. Yes you can go to the Sonos forums and if you’re a tech novice you’ll feel like when you went to high school and barely passed algebra and were sent to trigonometry. The bottom line Sonos needs to make their app less confusing and more appealing to the mainstream consumer who for the most part looking for a little more stability in their products.

Excellent products, but. I’ve been a sonos client for a long time. I’m also on your beta program. So when I call for support I do have some knowledge. I’m not an expert but do have an understanding. I called about one of my first play one speakers that seems to have a mind of its own and drops from my network off and on. Your support person came on the line but was hard to understand due to background noise. After explaining my issue instead of suggesting a possibly reset or helping me with troubleshooting options all I got was you need to buy a boost. Ok I get it. But he kept pestering me about the boost. I hung up and later was able to reset my speaker and reinstall it on my network myself. I hope this was a one-off situation as I’m constantly telling friends how great sonos is and how easy it is to use. So pay attention and take care of your base. FYI. I have your speakers in my living room. In my den. Surround sound in my master and my guest bedroom. A connect and a turntable.

High latency GUI experience, buggy app, speakers audio drop randomly. While I love my Sonos speakers when they work. I never recommend my friends invest in them. Whenever I try to give a demonstration of my sound system things fall apart. That’s all it takes to convince them not to buy Sonos. In fact, I inherited a brand new 5:1 setup because my ex-roommate didn’t want to deal with the hassle and unpredictability when she moved out. It seems like Sony Atmos would have been a better idea. I have to close and reopen the app even if I just need to make one simple adjustment after jumping to a different house. This happens across multiple devices. I really wanted the ability to listen to music and or the TV as I walk amongst my house I am mad just makes each speaker individually intermittently on reliance with lots of dead air and speaker drops. To avoid any audio sync issues the resolution is to turn your wireless speakers into…..a fully wired speaker system. Avoid wasting your money on planned obsolescence expensive hardware.

1 star too many. If you want to spend anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour redownloading the app every time there’s an update or redoing the entire speaker setup multiple times *every time* you use it, Sonos has built this app for you! I now understand why every online review ever published is so vitriolic. Users get lured in by empty promises time and time again, only to be pushed to the limits of sanity by ‘helpful’ auto assist software that never works. Out of the box it took six (yes 6) attempts to get the software to recognize the lone speaker on the network. Choose network, provide password, select speaker. Easy, this isn’t rocket science right? WRONG! Where else on Earth (or anywhere else) is this acceptable? When an update becomes available via the App Store, the current app on your device will not work at all. I’m going to chalk up the cost of the speaker lost as a therapy session while I smash it with a hammer. Too bad, form factor was good and it sounded bigger than it looked. Another good product completely ruined by terrible software.

Glitchy at times; limiting.. I have eight Sonos speakers in my home. The sound quality is great. But their app is glitchy; sometimes speakers drop off (but internet coverage in my home isn’t an issue); it freezes at times. It’s *very cumbersome to try to give others the ability to access the speaker system. I can no longer listen to radio stations that I used to (the connecting module dropped off the options on Sonos). The Pandora app on the Sonos app is different from regular Pandora… music I save on my Pandora app isn’t available when I use it via Sonos… and I can’t access the “top songs” feature when I speech for an artists on Sonos’ Pandora (but I can on the Pandora app). Other features are missing, as well. Sometimes, the system simply won’t play…. And says “can’t connect to Sonos”, yet I have no other issues with connectivity in my home. When it works, I love it, and it sounds great. But, I doubt I’d buy this system if I had to do it over again, today.

Connection Problems. I’ve been a huge advocate for SONOS products after my first purchase about four years ago. They were easy to setup and connect and the sound was amazing and I could move my Play1 into other rooms. I never had any issues until this lates controller app update. The app controller on my iPhone connects sometimes and other times it won’t find any speakers and says unable to connect. My Play1 drops completely off and I have to troubleshoot for about an hour to reset it and add it back into my speakers. I spent another 2 hrs on a chat with SONOS trying to figure out why it wasn’t connecting with no success. Then I reset my entire home network and router and it finds the speakers. I should have to continually reset my network router to bring the controller and speakers back online. There have been a lot of issues with this app update and it doesn’t work well for me. Sound and concept were great...connecting is now the main pro Len and never was before...really aggravating!!!!

Randomly one day my arc and surrounds disconnected. Had to do a factory reset and lug everything across the house to get to an Ethernet cable. No idea why after months of working great my Sonos system forgot our WiFi network. It’s been working just fine on wifi 6 for over a year. Plus it’s not easy to factory reset Sonos products. My Sonos sub gen3!!! Mind you, the newest sub that’s the same exact form as the sub gen two; just faster processors, took me giving up and coming back to it three times to get it to re-establish the network. Honestly I love these speakers but I remember when they’re new even; they’re an immense headache to set up and get connected. It’s honestly never been seamless. I’ve had to factory reset a brand new Sonos speaker fresh out the box more than 3 times. I have had better luck tho with my two sonos fives, those have always connected easily. I give these speakers 5 stars when they work. I noticed some static over my two Sonos one surrounds but I re-did tru play and that helped a little. Then realized I needed to move my router. It was too close to the surrounds and causing the slightest hint of feed back or crackle. Dialogue was sounding fuzzy, I could hear static/feedback. Was worried the Sonos ones were finally wearing out. But they just don’t like being close to the new WiFi 6 router. Never had feedback issues on wifi 5.

Great sound, terrible software. Sonos speakers sound great, but only after you figure out which of many similar but different apps you need to use, and go through the setup that often throws errors. Then, after turning on the speakers a day later, the settings (e.g. two Sonos mobile speakers as stereo) are lost and both throw errors when configuring them up again. Related, Apple air play does not work from some apps (though those apps successfully airplay connect to other Airply devices), so you have to establish connection from one media app (eg Pandora), and then switch over to the actual app you want to hear at the time (eg NPR). Lastly, the most frustrating weakness is that connection to the speakers depends on the Sonos app, so friends or family who visit are not able to connect via Bluetooth to be able to share their music unless they download the Sonos app and borrow the owners login credentials, go through the buggy setup themselves, etc.

Crashing App and Complicated Set Up. The first part of this review pertains to the s2 app. The second to set up. The app crashes and restarts when: 1.) I click play so wait to reload to change volume, and 2.) when I change apps and come back to Sonos app to skip a song or change volume. Tech support had me video record what happens, and they have said there is a problem. I did hours and hours of troubleshooting with them over many days. They had me send in crash logs to elevate the problem to level 2 support. (I also worked with Apple, but they say it is a Sonos issue.) It has been over a month with no fix. I email every week to check in and send another sample crash report, and they keep telling me they are getting to it. Now my review of setup. The Sonos website claims it works with any router. It does not. The Spectrum router cannot isolate 2.4 from 5 ghz bands, and Sonos only runs on 2.4. Therefore, you will keep losing speakers. Sonos support kept insisting it was going to work. After days with Spectrum and Sonos, Sonos support escalated the problem and said I needed to buy another router. More money and time. I love how the speakers now sound and work, but the app still crashes. Be aware that the advertisements of simple setup are not always true, and be aware that when support says they are here for you, they are if you put in lots of time and follow up. I am still waiting.

Always a pain. I hardly review anything and I realize most negative reviews are “rage posts” more or less, so I’m going to try and construct this review as calmly and coherently as possible. The thesis is: sonos is a bloated and overly complicated speaker system that hardly works. Set up is fairly straightforward so they get credit for that however, day-to-day, the system is a huge pain. My phone/computer/iPad constantly struggle to connect and when they do, sonos suggests a restart. It’s an absolute pain. These restarts aren’t software restarts, sonos asks for a hardware restart, so god forbid you have multiple units. Meanwhile as I’m restarting my sonos, my phone has no problem connecting to my google home and playing through that. Sure, the google home quality isn’t quite as good, but I’ll take lesser sound quality and easy connectivity over great sound quality and completely unreliable connectivity. What good is a quality speaker if you cannot reliably connect to it?

Love the speakers HATE the app!. We were all in on Sonos. At this point, we have 7 of their products. Love the sound and ease of set up - and used to love the app. Not sure what’s happened but the simple daily action of trying to hear our music has become pure frustration. The app is unresponsive more often than it works. It sometimes shows me all of my music options - most often not. It sometimes plays music through selected speakers - most often not. Very often music turns on and off randomly in different rooms. Routinely, once music is playing, app becomes unresponsive. It’s great to be working from home with music, receive a work phone call or need to join a meeting and be unable to turn music off - this happens daily. We used to sing the praises of Sonos. We now share our frustration for anyone who visits and asks about the speakers. We are currently in the process of researching better options and these suckers are going to be sold off to someone who can tolerate the crappy app. We’ll be happy to exit the Sonos world at this point.

The disconnection madness and the endless “let’s fix it”. I absolutely hate this app. It all disconnects with a puff of air from the window. It takes forever to load. It is actually always loading, even if you just close it and open it right after. It struggles to connect to the playbar, in fact, to any item on the system… It makes me go through hundreds of button pressing steps that never seem to make the connection work. When connected, it is not for long, and frustratingly forces me to go through this madness again, and again, and again. I wish there was something that could eliminate the need to end up telling “Alexa” what to do, or having to stand up and physically press the volume buttons after irritating configuration options that randomly decide to not work the next day… All I need it is a simple plain volume option, that would be enough, the bare minimal + and -, but functional! A truly one time setup… It would be haven! Is that asking too much?!

Beam HDMI Arc Issues. The Beam sound bar has an issue staying connected to HDMI ARC/eARC. Before Sonos says this is not there issue, I have tried it with multiple HDMI cables, including the one that comes with it all the way up to a $200 Dollar Monster Cable.. the exact same thing, it will work until you power off the TV for an extended period of time, or it might just randomly disconnect from the TV all on its own. I have bought brand new tvs thinking the TV was bad. Nope just the soundbar. Sonos just blames the TV manufacture. This Application is useless aside from connecting the Sonos Speakers to the internet, it is so far behind the Apple Music Interface. The biggest features it’s missing is the ability to use Apples Infinite Play. AirPlay doesn’t work, Apple Devices can not connect. The app says there is nothing wrong. There is no way to remove a Sonos device you have to just factory reset it. I mean you would think that for as much as they charge for the hardware the Application that controls it all would be much better.

Moving from love to hate. First the love: I love going room to room and hearing my music. That’s why I bought 5 speakers. But would I recommend Sonos to friends? Absolutely not; in fact, I would discourage them from buying it. Now the hate: EVERY TIME I use my system I have to go through a lengthy process of find lost products, restart the speakers, restart your modem, then “try again later”. I’ve sent diagnostics. I’ve even spent time on the phone with different persons from tech support, none of whom could solve the problem, or even figure out why I get error messages I shouldn’t get. This has been the case for four years and through all the updates. I never have problems with anything else that uses wifi in my home, nor do guests. I rarely use the system now, unless I want to spend 30 minutes or so resetting up the system. But I spent a good chunk of money since I bought all five speakers new from the Sonos site. Very disappointing.

Deeply flawed. As a sonos user for many years, let me be the one to warn you off. The system can work well enough, but the app is a mess and a half—and is getting worse with each release. The interface itself is poorly designed, and the functionality is getting worse with each version. (I am sitting six feet away from a—functioning, playing—speaker that is not showing up in the app.) Even at its best, the app pauses for ten or fifteen seconds each tine it’s launched. I had hoped that the new Sonos 2 update would fix things, but no. It’s gone from an annoying five second lag to a fifteen second lag. Trying to add (or even unplug and re-plug) a speaker becomes a three hour journey of troubleshooting. Imagine how irritated I would have to be to sit down and write this—it’s because I’ve hit a dead end with a speaker that was unplugged, replugged, and that took down the whole system. Avoid Sonos. It looks tempting, and when it works as advertised, it’s amazing—but this fussy, buggy software/hardware mess rarely works as advertised.

More complicated than it should be. The amount of navigation through the app you have to do access commonly used things, or just to turn the volume up or down as well as getting to the EQ for adjustments, is way to complicated. It would be nice to have a Home Screen with instant volume controls on the groups “Currently in use” on top. Not all groups and speakers, mixed up alphabetically, that you are not using at that moment, that is irritating. Put groups in use at the top and also let us decide the order they show in system settings, not default to alphabetical. A separate “system” icon, AirPlay, Alarm, etc. besides just “settings”. That way you are not flooded with all the other options that you don’t need at that moment. It is just to complex when all you want is to adjust volume or EQ on what’s currently in use or wanting to look at your system for adjustments, or set up an alarm, and not navigate through all settings.

Hate this app. My husband spent thousands of dollars over the last two years on Sonos speakers to “wire” our house. Prior to the most recent app release, I enjoyed being able to play one station in one room while he played something else in another room. With the recent app release, I have lost my enjoyment because I have nothing but issues with the app every time I try to use it. Every morning, I spend 10-15 minutes trying to get the app to load so I can listen to the morning news. While playing a station, the app tells me it is unable to connect to the station. Recently, I spent 30 minutes trying to get the app to function - reset the app three times, shut off my WiFi twice, shut down my phone twice. I’m not sure what the problem is, but I’m ready to ditch the stupid app and sell the speakers. With the money we spent, I don’t think I should be engaging in daily frustration just trying to listen to the radio.

Over 15 years experience says: Do not buy!. I’ve been using Sonos products since 2007, spending thousands and thousands of dollars on compete systems for multiple homes, but I wouldn’t spend another penny on these products. Sonos used to be great, but new speakers are cheap crap and the old speakers (which worked perfectly fine) have been “end of life’d” by the company. You have to replace the whole speaker by spending more money at Sonos. It’s only a matter of time before the new edition speakers are also made obsolete by the company for no good reason. You’re best to buy a competing brand or normal component stereo system that connects through a Bluetooth transmitter, that way if any part of the system is broken, you just replace that part, not the entire expensive speaker. Sonos customer service has gone down the tube over the years too. Their customer service is only available M-F business hours, but most people use their stereo system nights and weekends. So when these crappy speakers go out during a party or when you really wanna watch a movie, there’s no one at Sonos to help.

LOVE LOVE LOVE SONOS!. Sonos has made it SO EASY to enjoy my music wherever I want to in the house and on the go! I’ve been a huge fan of Sonos since the early days when they became a solution to powering a set of patio speakers. Since those early days I’ve continued to add components throughout my house and I LOVE how they all integrate together. I really appreciate how Sonos makes continuous improvement on their products. Last summer, they offered me the chance to upgrade my old components to new ones with 30% off offers for each older component(including the remote and dock I hadn’t used in years). I jumped at the chance. Also I got a gift of the Sonos move which is both WiFi and Bluetooth enabled, so I can take high quality sound everywhere! I’ve already preordered the new Roam, which is a smaller version of the Move, using one of those 30% off offers. A great product that only gets better! Thanks Sonos!

Got to Love It. Years ago, I had purchased Sonos equipment in conjunction with other audio equipment for my older son. It was such a an unexpected easy process to set up and the sound, while not audiophile, was very, very, very good. Fast forward a few years, and when we moved to another house, my plan was to add various Sonos components throughout the house. That was one of the requirements for the move and we made it happen with various components, such as move, multiples of the amp, subwoofer, some ones, a beam and a playbar. Now, the play bar is vastly outdated and an arc will be our next purchase. The equipment has always performed flawlessly and has been easy to manage with the app. even my wife, who is not a techie can more than manage the system. Keep it going Sonos!

Be careful when installing, renames groups. The install of the S2 app was simple and almost flawless. It picked up the presence of my existing Sonos devices and settings, works like a charm. The behavior I object to is that after I install an app I usually want to drag it to another home screen. If you cross over another app, Sonos s2 immediately creates a group and names it “Music.” That might seem like a logical thing to do unless you already have a group named Music (in my case it contains iTunes, SoundCloud and some Safari links to radio stations and streaming services). If you happen to drag it over an existing group, it renames the group to Music! Rather unsociable behavior in what is otherwise a pretty good app. Fix that group renaming thing and it gets a 5 star

Sonos. What happened?. Been a long time user. Sold so many Sonos systems to my friends and could never say enough good things. Now with the two separate apps for new and old equipment it is something I can no longer endorse for fear it will happen again in another five years. When people spend thousands of dollars and then continue to expand their system it should work all together. I think Sonos has lost their way from their original mission. I now have to have two apps — one for half my zones and another for the other half. Can no longer group certain rooms because their equipment isn’t compatible with each other. Major failure on Sonos’ part. Weak attempt by Sonos to overcome their buy back perfectly good equipment at dimes on the dollar to sell new stuff. Dumb. Hopefully when all my old stuff fails there are some comparable products out there from other companies that can handle making old and new work together because Sonos obviously doesn’t make it a priority.

I’m free. I finally switched to Apple HomePod Minis. I love updating this review every now and then, when I’m reminded of how terrible a product this is and what nonexistent customer service they had. I was recently at a friends house and listening to his records cut in and out through his Sonos system as it lost connection. Ahhh how I don’t miss it! It’s finished. I’ve waiting years for these beautiful but painfully challenging Sonos devices to catch up and build an app that works. Sadly, it never happened. Last weekend, I purchased a pair of HomePod Minis from Apple and the next day, I listed my entire Sonos system on Craigslist. I’m out. I’m so happy to have a system that works!! Sorry Sonos. You’re losing a star. The UI is awful, everyone knows that. But now, the hardware is failing. I have a pair of speakers and a sub in my living room. The sub has just stopped working. The kicker? The app doesn’t even tell me! It seems to think it’s all good to go! Sonos! Please stop spending money on paying Thom Yorke to curate a radio station and make products that work.

Don't buy for high end large homes.. We've had two completely new sets of 6+ Sonos speakers at our penthouse loft. The first set was from years ago when Sonos started being a big player, the second purchased recently. Unfortunately they have the exact same issues as before. Hard to connect and never working together. We have 4x Sonos 1, two of the Sonos 3 and a sound bar plus subwoofer. The area they are set up in is about 7,000square feet of open wide floor plan....this still seems to be an issue and we never have good consistent connection with the speakers always not working at the same time or at all. I'm sad to see they still haven't figured this out and I will be recommending to everyone to stay away from these systems. Although they seem easy to use and reliable you will be left with hours of frustration at a moment when all you want to do is play some music and set a pleasant mood.

Get it together. For the amount of money your system costs, I expect more. Push out a new app, then it doesn’t work AT ALL, then the very next day, a new app comes out, and it’s barely functional. Start playing some music, but don’t dare to change anything...volume, song, channel, source...it’ll get hung up and won’t allow you to do ANYTHING. Try pausing the music because someone, like your boss, is calling, and you have to scramble to get to the physical speaker to hit the button to stop it, because the app won’t respond. Won’t even show what’s currently playing, never mind basic controls. Get your act together, or lower your prices, so expectations are also lowered. Paying a premium price for your system comes with an expectation of a premium experience.

Consistently the worst. I can’t think of any other app that was better when it first launched and has consistently gotten worse with time. We got Sonos when it was still new and had the S1 app that worked beautifully. Since then, every version has gotten worse. Just searching and playing songs is miserable. Why you can’t search a song and have it continue to play without going back to load another? Why do I have to look through their albums to find the song I want? Then the actual system cuts out or doesn’t play at all. We get a lot of errors that say the song can’t be played. When it does work, the volume control is so delayed takes about 20 seconds to register. The app isn’t user friendly imo as I’ve had it for 10 years and still forget what buttons do what. I remember when we first got Sonos thinking this is life changing. Of course nothing gold can stay! We’re looking into other speaker systems. I’m sure this review will be lost and the owners won’t care but I’m telling you as a long time user - not worth the money or frustration.

Faulty app and poor over all experience. I spent nearly 4 hours setting up the arc, sub & era 100 pair. The app was unable to register the devices in-spite of detecting them I.e the “add” step was fine. But then it would not complete registration. After multiple attempts and app resets, Sonos resets, router restarts and trying different phones it was connected. But then.. the app disconnects frequently from the Sonos ecosystem. “Unable to connect to Sonos, let’s fix it”. Only way to reconnect is to restart the router, Which then establishes connectivity for few minutes before we have to start over. (The router has worked perfectly fine until now. However changing it as a last resort.) If everything for Sonos is centered on this app. I expect it to do much much better. Even if you don’t mind the average UI and amateurish search, the basic functionality should be of higher standards. 1)When it says connection issues, I don’t know if my internet is disconnected or if it’s Sonos.?? 2)Missing guidance during connectivity - if arc should only connect on 2.4G , could it be as simple as calling it out during the process.?? 3) using the devices WiFi connection- app connects to different WiFi networks and needs to be manually changed during device setup. 4) full WiFi network name is not displayed in different screens 5) no on screen controls. 6) no volume button. I can go on !!

Do NOT upgrade yet. Using iPhone 11 Pro: The S1 controller has been acting up lately, crashing, glitching, freezing, and taking obnoxiously long to load various pages and functions. So, why not give S2 a go? Couldn’t hurt! S2, as it turns out, is a circular system of non-function. It recognizes my current system and prompts me to update before i can use anything. Then it asks me to sign in to my Sonos account to continue. I oblige and wait for the spinning dial to take me to the next screen. It either freezes or it takes me back to the original update screen, where I’m prompted again to update and then sign in to my account...again. This loop repeats without end. No matter what i try and do (restart the app, re-install the app, etc.) it ends in the same nonsense. S1 after re-installing is still just as broken. No music services, nothing at all outside of being able to hear my tv audio. The use of the speakers is totally nullified with the current apps. Frustrating. No music anywhere, in any room, at any time. 👍🏼

Beware the Updates. The short: Speakers and app work well, unless you try to update them. Once you do you are in for a world of hurt trying to get everything to reconnect. This was not always the case with the earlier version of the app/firmware, but recently this seems to be the norm. It’s now so bad, IMHO, that I will no longer update the software unless I absolutely HAVE to. It is so supremely frustrating to have all these speakers around the house, and the app can only “find” two of them (after updating the app). Even following the in-app directions to reconnect, I’m unable to get my speakers back for some significant time. To me, this is unacceptable and I’m personally at the end of my rope with this system. The only reason I’m giving three stars is because, ONCE (if?) everything connects, the system works well...it just takes time and frustration to get there.

Sonos, please fix your app!. Sonos used to be awesome. I own several products but have seen the quality of this app continue to decline. I’m really frustrated with its performance and reliability. My system has been glitching in and out lately when listening to radio stations. I knew interference might be a problem so I went to change the Sonos channel but learned the only way to change the channel is to plug the speaker into the router. So to change the channel, Sonos expects me to disconnect and unplug the speaker and move it to my router? This is about as user unfriendly as you can get. Fortunately I had a 100ft Ethernet cable that allowed me to get around this. Even now after the channel change, I’m still getting station drop outs on radio stations. The latest glitch is the audio cuts out when I attempt to adjust the volume and the app freezes for about 20 seconds. So disappointing! By the way, I’ve got an old Play 5 speaker using the S1 Controller and it functions flawlessly. Here’s to the good ole days!

Great or useless, no in-between. I have had a Sonos system for 4 years. In the beginning, it worked perfectly, linking to both Sonos speakers as well as my home stereo speakers with no bugs. I could access my Apple Music and Pandora accounts with no problem. Then, about 2 years ago, it stopped working. Repeated messages of “Cannot find Sonos system” showed up on my laptop, phone, and ipad. I noticed it worked during “off-peak” hours (late at night) but stopped during the day. Keep in mind *nothing* changed in my components, wifi setup, or placement. Then, about a month ago, it started working again, no problems. And when the S2 player arrived, I updated to it, and now I am back to the usual problems. I can still stream all my music, just not through Sonos. I have no idea what is going on and refuse to call customer service: if it works perfectly, then doesn’t, when I have made no changes to my system, the problem is not me.

So much potential. I really want to love it. The app is cool but please add better playlist management. This is a huge L is this category. You aren’t notified if a song is already added to a playlist. Additionally, sometimes songs from a playlist are “no longer available” and you have to re-add it. And you won’t even know it’s no longer available until you try to play it and see the message pop up. There is no advance notice. So if you’re just playing a playlist, you’ll probably think the song just never got its turn because it’s still listed. But it is just actively being skipped over because it can’t be played. The search feature is also not too good because everything has to be spelled EXACT as the original. You can’t search a lyric or a similar title. Every apostrophe or dash or space matters when it comes to searching.

Sonos app was purposely changed. My Connect:Amp components worked great to play music from stored on my iPhone when I purchased the system, and then multiple app updates purposely phased out the ability to play music stored in my iPhone’s music library. Sonos claimed that it was “instability” that left them no alternative but to remove this feature, but that was all a sales line. It is rather convenient that Sonos had a later introduced its own subscription music service, in the interest of creating a recurring income stream (no pun), regardless of the fact that they purposely eliminated the advertised functionality of their components, something that had worked quite well. I am a capitalist, and I am all about creating additional sources of revenue. That said, what Sonos has done to eliminate the functionality it advertised to sell its products only to later remove that functionality from its products is in extremely poor taste and is unethical.I will NEVER subscribe to or buy anything additional furnished by Sonos.

Less and less functional with time. This app and the One SL speakers I own have become less and less compatible with time. They often stop playing music entirely, or the music is not synchronized when it is playing. This results in a pretty jarring echo effect. These issues haven’t ever been resolved by their technical support line. Setting up the speakers on a new router often involves factory resets and obscure work arounds. Instead of plugging them in and adding your new Wi-Fi password (as almost all devices do), they require you to disable firewalls and child protection systems on your router and reference obscure compatibility reasoning. I’ve used them on three routers and each time they’ve explained away non-functioning speakers as router issues. None of my other household devices have these issues. I’ve interacted with their technical support a bunch, and the company says they have no designated customer support line. They only have sales and technical support lines.
