Slick kludge (not anymore). Update: Changed my rating from 2 stars for v. 8 to 4 stars for v. 8.3.1. Especially impressed by your response to user feedback. There is zero chance of my buying a HomePod or whatever it’s called now. Archive this: Disappointing update people. I cannot understand how you’re getting 5 star reviews from anyone who’s used the controller for any length of time. First, and forgetting the UI’s appearance for a second, the move to privilege songs over albums is misguided. Choosing an album now gives me a mountain of icons for individual songs to choose from that album. It’s unclear how to just play an album or add an album to the queue with one click or a hard press as in prior versions. Also, the Rooms navigation is awful. There used to be immediate access at the top of the screen to individual rooms. Navigating to the list now, even with the button on the bottom is aggravating. It should always be available on screen. You have complicated the controller in many ways under the guise of simplifying the look of the interface. The interface is cleaner, yes, and I don’t mind the white as others do. What bugs me is that the cleanliness of the look destroyed the ease of use that was there up to now. I don’t want to fumble around relearning how to use the controller effectively. I just want to listen to music quickly and easily. I especially want to be able to play albums quickly and easily. Looking forward to version 9.

Wish I'd started years sooner. UPDATE after July software update Very buggy, lose a star. I wouldn’t have made these changes prepping for an IPO. Taking the controls off the lock screen has ruined the user experience. Enabling in Settings doesn’t work. Half the time volume controls don’t even work when the app is active. So many more taps to make basic functions work. These reviews tend to be hyperbolic but I’m not exaggerating. Really. I’m not. I’m calm. Again. I've become a huge Sonos fan and wish I'd tried out the system years instead of mere months ago. I've dispersed four Play:1s around the house and have a Soundbar for home theater surround minus a Sub (so far). I've had zero of the problems I see in other reviews. The software is Apple quality and while not audiophile caliber the hardware is the best digital reproduction I've heard. I wish I could control the volume on my locked phone from the phone volume buttons as I can with the Apple music app, and I wish the rest of the album/playlist would play when I start with a song in the middle. Other than that, I'm totally satisfied.

Latest app update, 11.1. I just have to say Sonos is the ultimate in audio equipment and as a audio source provider. I have a very expensive and well equipped home AV system and I incorporated Sonos into my system over 6 years ago and I couldn’t be happier with their equipment and what they provide as a source for any type audio you’re interested in listening to. Now, they just stepped up their game with the latest update, 11.1. Great job Sonos. They have an excellent record of providing anyone owning their system with the best service and system updates. And, they just put out the best update yet! The new “Sonos Radio,” they added to the system control app is superb! The way it’s organized is very user friendly and not only give you all your local radio station of any genre, but also provides a large listing of suggested audio providers. The best part is they provide this service for free. All you need is their equipment, an account, and the Sonos app.

FORGET ABOUT USING YOUR IPHONE. I jumped on the Sonos bandwagon back in 2013 because, at the time, the sound quality of their sound bar was better than anything I auditioned. Adding on their subwoofer and Play 3 speakers got as close to my $$$ B&W THX system as I could find. And the fact I could stream my ever growing music library from my iPhone put me over the moon. But in the last year, the honeymoon came to an end. Somewhere in the all too frequent annoying deluge of upgrades they shove at you, playback from my iPhone became problematic with frequent skips (reminiscent of my vinyl days) and queues that stop playing. After contacting Sonos they provided a work around (turn off the auto off feature on your iPhone) that worked for awhile. Now they’re removing the playback feature from your iPhone and have proposed some other (more complicated) work arounds which have so far proved unsatisfactory (their desktop controller failed to incorporate my entire music library). My question is with all the apps being developed for an iPhone and iOS, why can’t Sonos get their $&@ act together and get something that’s simple and works flawlessly. You’ll find my Sonos soundbar, subwoofer, Play 3’s (x2), bridge, Sonos connect and connect:amp in the trash. I’m done! HEOS here I come.

Amazing system, difficult app that keeps getting worse. The Sonos system itself has literally no real competition, so there's nothing much to say there. If you want an integrated wireless hifi system for your house that actually works, and supports all the major streaming/storage providers it’s the only game in town. The controller app, however, is a rolling disaster that manages to keep getting worse with each subsequent redesign. The latest major update apes the design of the iOS music app but it’s just an impossibly poor fit: there are two separate “room” interfaces and you will always, inevitably, pick the wrong one for the action you want to do. Volume controls are hidden in a slide-up “now playing” card which, when expanded, hides the shortcut links to everything. Getting simple things done is like swimming through molasses: someone at Sonos needs to sit down and do some actual user testing for this stuff. The good news is that they’ve mostly ignored the OS X/windows controller applications, so the interface there is still actually usable. And like I said, it’s the only game in town so what are you gonna do?

Used to be great but not anymore. The Sonos system used to be great but the latest updates have totally screwed my system. Although my ZP100 is wired, streaming radio drops out all the time when it never did before. The volume sometimes goes to zero, no input required. I haven’t been able to access the music library on my home server for years even though every other system in my house can access it. And now they’re going to disable the Sonos remote that I own because apparently they own it. I was a Sonos fan from the beginning but no more. Update: Sonos has lost their way. With each successive release of the software more features are removed. I used to be able to see Sonos on my lock screen and adjust the volume. No more. (Yes I’ve seen the remarks about having other audio programs open which I closed although I didn’t have to do this before.) I used to be able to open the app and adjust the volume with the hardware buttons but now they’re stupid buttons and need to be pressed multiple times before they recognize they’ve been pressed. Changing rooms, overly complicated now. If you’re on the fence about buying a Sonos system I recommend that you don’t do it. What was once the best sound system available, bar none, is now an also ran due to the way they’ve crippled their app and forced you off the physical remote which still worked perfectly.

Upgrade is Horrible. I have owned Sonos from it’s inception. My two dozen speakers are used at my home, office and vacation home. Until now I have had ZERO complaints- only praise! In fact, I have encouraged my friends and family to buy Sonos and given the speakers as gifts - until now. The new interface is non intuitive and confusing. Actually, it is COUNTER INTUITIVE. My friends, family and office staff have turned against me for providing them a monster of a music system. I am now the one asked to tune in the music that they desire because no one can figure it out (or don’t have the time to try to figure it out). Then I embarrassingly struggle to fulfill their request, and screw it up anyway. However, not all hope is lost! Sonos, if you want me to give you the five stars that you really deserve, fire the individual in charge of this most recent downgrade. Please post a photo of them exiting the building carrying their personal items in a cardboard box. Then get the app back to the way it was, with a few interface tweaks that are intuitive. Sonos, this is the “New Coke” of the 21st Century (look it up Millennials). You can fix it!

New beginnings with the Beam. Okay... we had a 10 year old Sony 46” Bravia TV and Bose Acoustimass 15 home theater speakers run through a Sony amp. So we decided to move up to a LG 65” c8 television. Love it, but that’s another review. The Bose was great for music but was always problematic trying to get it working properly for surround sound. The Sony and Bose never really jived with each other. So as a result we seldom used it. Anyway, friends told me about Sonos speakers and since we had the new TV I decided to purchase the Beam sound bar, the sub woofer and two play 1 speakers to make a surround system for the new LG. Man it sounds great. We are very please with the system and the ease of setup and use. It is pricey when it comes to the sub woofer. However the sub really completes the system so I would say if you can swing it $$$, go for it. We chose the Beam over the larger Sonos sound bar because the Beam has a HDMI hook up with “ARC” and Alexa built in if that’s important to you. I just didn’t want a optical connection that the bigger Sonos bar only comes with. However I would guess the larger sound bar probably sounds better.??? However don’t let the size of the Sonos Beam fool you, it's impressive. Anyway I can’t wait to add more speakers to our house later on. Very satisfied customer.

How did we live without it. So with all of the technology i have brought through the house this is the only thing my wife has said "how did we live without it?" And she can control it with no issue. That means it is simple (very simple). This was recommended to me by family and when I actually heard it I was hooked. It is on constantly and I am ready to expand to other rooms. Expansion is extremely easy. Love it. I have others come to the house and wonder how I always have such a wide variety of music. Hey, I have all the music on earth. I have even installed it in a local business that I deal with. They love it for the ease of changing music without having to go to one location where the old system was, just pull out the phone and make a change. Need an expansion to a new area, drop in a SONOS. Want different music in different areas, light music on the floor, rock in the repair area, just a phone or pc app away. Need the music off in the classroom, out comes the phone. So easy, so versatile.

Latest update not great. Love the speakers, love controlling them with the app. Now the bad. The latest update made it more cumbersome. Why oh why did you move the alarm control in the latest update?!?! The former tab “more” on the far right made so much more sense than “settings” because there’s a lot more than settings under it (pun intended). Now to find the alarm function you have to go to settings->system-> and scroll way down to alarms. For someone that uses 2 of these speakers as morning alarms for my kids and frequently turns the alarms on or off and makes adjustments this is SUCH A HASSLE. After the update I struggled to find the alarm in the first place because it’s so NOT intuitive. Initially I thought the alarm control was deleted. The Alarm control is a major feature for many people using these speakers and it should be in an intuitive and convenient location. Please move the Alarm control back to an easily accessed place that doesn’t require several taps and scrolling down to find it! And IMO “More” as a menu title was more accurate of a descriptor and way better sounding than “Settings”.

Sonos makes their App more difficult to use with each update. I used to be a fan, however the latest revisions resulted in a non-intuitive, difficult-to-use app that frustrates me every time I open it. Many of the features present in the PC and Mac Interface are simply not available in the IPAD App. In both the PC and Mac Interface, one can no longer add Pandora Stations to the list of stations - they must go into “SONOS Favorites” instead. Context-sensitive features that used to be available via the “...” link on each page have now been moved to other non-intuitive parts of the tool, or have disappeared completely. Major podcasts with hundreds of thousands or even millions of users are not available through the Sonos search feature, and they’ve been added to the “My Radio Shows” section, which is somehow confusingly distinct from the “Podcasts” section. Sonos, you had something that worked pretty well before. May I request in all seriousness that you go back to the drawing board and earnestly begin work on a rebuild, based on actual users and user groups, and flush this current version down the toilet as soon as possible?

Update - working again. Update - Developer responded quickly and recommended I call customer service. It’s difficult for me to call customer service during their posted hours so I performed a factory reset of all speakers and decided to “start over”. Took awhile to get the first couple connected, but eventually all are connected and have been working for a few days now. Original review- New to Sonos as of December 2017. Everything worked fine for a couple weeks and then the app was nearly useless with January update. The next upgrade helped some but still really inconsistent connection between my devices and Sonos network. Right now I have 3 controllers working but my iPhone will not connect, even after multiple restarts, app re-loads, etc. When this happened previously, Sonos support told me to resubmit a diagnostic even after having submitted, twice. No luck in resolving it. I really want this to work so I hope it’s user error, but I’m going on a month now with extremely inconsistent performance by the system.

So far very impressed. So far I’m very impressed with the capability of the app itself. The Sonos Playbar I bought is a dream when listening to music and watching movies. The app itself is limited but I can totally get by with what it offers for the time being. I mostly use Apple Music, Pandora and Soundcloud. So it’s kinda weird but they are apps within an app. It’s confusing to describe but it feels like second nature when navigating thru the app. Best part is while I’m playing music on the Playbar I can still watch videos on my phone so not to disrupt anyone else listening to music. I usually pop in my AirPods and watch a quick video on FB or FaceTime and the music still plays. This is probably my favorite feature. I have no regrets and I’m sure it only gets better from here. By the way the sound quality is absurdly wonderful. I hear things I usually don’t ever hear on just about anything else. I have an open concept living room and it fills the entire room effortlessly! I must purchase the subwoofer to complete the ensemble but I have to recover from the grip I just let go of on the Playbar but it is definitely in the near future!

Work around for 9.0?. I’ve been a Sonos user since very early on. I have two Play:1 speakers that I use as a stereo pair. I was very disappointed when the v9.0 update, which apparently enabled Air Play on the One (plus other current models), disabled the home screen controls for those of us using the legacy speakers. I’ve also experienced the same as others where the last ~20 seconds of each track would be cut off when I was playing from a locked iOS device. I keep nearly all my audio on my iPhone & iPad and generally play straight from those devices’ libraries instead of from my Mac, as the latter spends most of its time in sleep mode. Surprisingly I just accidentally got the lock screen controls re-enabled and the end-of-track cutoff seems to have gone away. For some reason one of my speakers dropped off the system and I couldn’t get it to reconnect, so I did a full-on controller reset on my iPhone. I also unplugged both speakers and then basically set my system back up, as if it was new. No idea why, but like I said this has caused the end-of-track dropout to go away and my lock screen controls to come back (even though Sonos says explicitly in their release notes that this function has gone away for those without Air Play compatible speakers). Very weird, but now my system’s back to how I’ve used and loved it for the past 6-7 years and it’s great! Hopefully some others might try this and have some luck getting full functionality back.

Hardware good; company poor. The Sonos speakers have a very good sound for the money. But this S1 app represents everything wrong with a company turned sour. As a company Sonos has gone downhill from its promising start, once it realized that vast money can be made from data mining — surveillance capitalism. Within a year of buying a Sonos Five, Sonos made that speaker legacy. Why? The answer is surveillance capitalism. With the new speaker and new app, customers can use Alexa or Google Assistant, which data mine who you are and Sonos makes money. Again, the new speakers and software offer Sonos radio, which again is a monetary rip off because it sells ads and you cannot advance past unwanted songs. None of these features were demanded by customers, but they allow Sonos to make more money. Finally, not to be overlooked, is the now horrible customer service, which consists of getting somebody who knows nothing about the product and reads off a prompt from a screen. (One day I wasted an hour with a service rep insisting that I needed second-tier help, while she angrily insisted that I would be told nothing that she had not said. Just as I thought, she was the wrong and advanced technical help solved the problem in under 10 minutes.) What once was a terrific customer oriented company had become bloated and utterly money oriented.

AirPlay 2 failure is a dealbreaker.. I want to love my Sonos system, I really do. Unfortunately, the inability to use AirPlay 2 as intended (initiate listening session and control all aspects of playback, discovery, library manipulation etc from the individual native apps or, more importantly, assign playback location directly from iOS Control Center instead of through the slightly lacking Sonos app) is frustrating. Tried everything including a two hour “support” session with Sonos. Nothing but an admission that AirPlay is “hard to implement AND yet maintain control over the data”. I know it’s getting old to complain about but the insatiable business model focused more on how to monetize users and user’s data than simply developing a good product is getting ridiculous and it’s preventing consumers from getting what they expect and pay for. AirPlay 2 support for Airport Express is going to really hurt Sonos if they don't get this figured out quick! I just dusted off a few I had laying about. Saved me $600 (and lost Sonos the sales) since I already have good “dumb” speakers. My advice to Sonos: worry less about trying to make speakers “smart” and worry more about putting audio playback in its modern form (read:digital/streaming) first!

Great for Audiophiles and Newbies Alike!. I am a father of four boys and waited a long time (goodbye diapers!) to buy my home audio solution. I own five (gen 1) Ones, a Playbar and a Connect Amp and have been very happy with all of them. The Amp drives two Bose 301 outdoor speakers out by the pool and it effortlessly fills the entire yard with sound. The Playbar and two of the Ones are my “home theatre” and surprisingly provide a lot bass for the bass-starved flatscreen in our living room. The other Ones hang in our home gym, if that’s what you call a room with a treadmill and a weight bench, and provide awesome audio for those few and far between workouts. Long story short, these components provide excellent audio quality at a nice price and are modular so a guy on a budget can add pieces little by little. Pure audiophiles may snub their noses at these, but the increasing quality of audio sources make these an excellent choice for any room, situation and budget. I have a recommend Sonos products to anybody looking to get into this space at a reasonable price. The cost may be entry-level, but the quality is much greater. I can’t wait to get my Sub!

Love Sonos...not Crazy about the app. I have had Sonos since it was first introduced. Initial the App was easy to use and straight forward. With each update and added functionality it has gotten more confusing and less intuitive. My poor wife doesn’t even like using it anymore..... the app is packed with options, but for everyday use it is a pain. Unless you have something saved in your shortcuts, you have to rethink how to select and find music channels that I want. I consider myself somewhat technology literate and find myself pausing trying to figure out how to do things. For people who are confused easily by technology this app will drive you crazy. I know .... I hear from my wife all the time. I think Sonos needs to use the KISS methodology (keep it simple stupid ) and redesign this app and let the average person test it and not a bunch of engineers. I wish I could rate the Sonos speakers and system separately because I would give it five stars. The app needs to be easier to use for basic functionality for the technically challenge. If you make it easier to use....my wife might let me buy another speaker…

Updates frequently break the iPad app. The latest one simply removed the ability to play anything anywhere. Awesome! Update: one of my favorite features is that Sonos can almost never process any command without restarting the app. And even more fun, the play/pause button is unreliable after it restarts. It may be playing but only offer “play,” or it may be paused and only offer “pause.” Leaving the house and want to turn off the music on the way out the door? Better sit down, maybe pour a drink. I left the music on all night recently because of this. I left convinced that it was off after at least a minute of toggling and waiting. Silly me. One must, I guess, use multiple devices to verify that a simple “pause” command was evaluated correctly. Another great feature is the frequency of updates. I wish the updates would fix the problems, but they only seem to compound them. The annoying update notification inevitably lists something I don’t care about and then breaks some basic functionality. Whom exactly are you catering to, Sonos? Your customers? Someone else? What gives? Great, now Sonos works with all this stuff I don’t have or even want, but can’t manage any single task without a complete restart. You are optimizing for the wrong priorities. Take care of your customers or we will leave and never come back.

Would be 5 stars if I appreciated a bait and switch.. Over the years, I have built a Sonos system with speakers throughout my home, a significant investment. I have also accumulated a library of thousands of titles, expecting to listen to my purchased music via Sonos, a functionality that made the hardware investment worthwhile. On the positive side, Sonos has gradually solved most of the bugs that would inexplicably fail to connect or randomly break connection with my WiFi or with my iphone. But the unwelcome news that Sonos would cease to play titles “on this phone” felt like a real ripoff - a classic bait and switch. It is redundant and wasteful to pay dues to a music streaming service when I already “own” the music I want to hear. Had I known that Sonos would block me from listening to my own music, I would never have invested in the system. This is why, when friends ask me whether they should buy Sonos, I now recommend rather that they purchase a set of high end Bluetooth speakers. I will be surprised if the good folks at Sonos publish this review, as it is anything but the hands-down accolade I’m sure they would prefer. But if they are serious about building consumer loyalty and serving and growing their customer base, they will thank their subscribers for their invaluable feedback and reinstate the “on this phone” functionality.

Speakers = Amazing, App... okay. I’ve used Sonos speakers for well over 5 years now and simply love the sound and audio. High quality speakers thought your home is a game changer. The app on the other hand, could use some renovation. If you search for a popular artists name to find a specific album, you’ll be greeted with a cluster of disorganized censored albums, uncensored albums, song singles, and song features. Nothing is organized by year or date. It would be nice to be able to click an album, then have a toggle button that changes it from censored to uncensored. It would make things more user friendly. My second recommendation would be about the layout. For such a smooth speaker product line, the app seems really square and blocky. Lastly, a touch of Dark mode to make the inter interface black might just be a personal preference, however we’ve all seen the success Apple has had implementing a dark mode for their devices. It’s more pleasing on the eyes and would also make the entire app look like the logo. Again, I love the speakers, however when it takes me more than 3 minutes to find a single song (in this world of instant gratification) it doesn’t make me too happy.

Latest update is awful!. Omg this is terrible! I wish there was a way to uninstall this latest update! We have (had!) three rooms on this system. Since the update the only way to switch off one of the rooms was to pull the power cord! What kind of control is that? And I suppose that means this room is now unusable! This really needs to be addressed - I paid a lot of money for this system! UPDATE: it has taken a little while to get used to the new UI. I will also say the the new version was a lot more temperamental with Google Wifi - because the four speakers were reaching different access points it was hit and miss. However Google recently updated Google Wifi and that made things a lot better. I also plugged one of the speakers into an access point ethernet, which creates a dedicated Sonos network, and everything is now perfect again! I've changed the review to 4 stars. I still don't like the new UI, but in all fairness the whole system really does work extremely well.

New version UI is poor. Used to be 5*. Revised 10/14 on new version. I hate the new layout. I do not find it intuitive and still struggle to figure out how to pick music to play in a particular room. Also, My favorites used to scroll vertically, making them easy to sort through as I could see many of them on the screen at the same time. Now they scroll horizontally and have huge icons, meaning I can only see one station at a time. This app used to be 5star worth and set it apart from the crowd. Original review: I seem to keep finding reasons to expand my system, it gets pretty addictive. I mostly use Pandora or other internet radio type stations. Streaming music to a speaker via Bluetooth is not the same! The speakers are more like today's smart TV's, with apps built in that run autonomously, the phone is just a remote control. Software navigation is incredibly easy and the speakers all sound amazing! I have a Play 1 in both my bedroom and home office, a Play 5 in my living room, a Playbar/Sub/Play1 surround system hooked to my Sony Bravia TV in the family room, and am waiting on a connect amp to arrive for my outdoor speakers. They can all play different stations, or group them together as needed during house parties.

App Needs More Features. I love the sound I get from my speakers, but the review isn’t really about the speakers. It’s about the app, which needs some work. The ability to access multiple audio sources is great. What it is missing though are the small details that make the apps from those services it is drawing from a better option almost every time. For instance, the Pandora app lets you view songs that have already played - so, if you were away from the device and heard a new song and want to know more about it, you could check later to see what it was. With the Sonos app, if you don’t check while the song is playing you will never know. With the Books from Audible, it’s great that you can play it in multiple rooms but losing the ability to speed up the playback means I won’t use that service here. The same (or worse) with Apple podcasts. The only way to access them is via the On This Phone option. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tap into the organization that the iPhone uses and just puts everything out there in a mess so if you have multiple episodes to listen to, it’s just a huge mess. This also needs the speed up option that the regular podcast apps offer. Again, I love my speakers and the music I play on them sounds amazing. However, I really hope the app gets some good upgrades soon.

Updated: I love Sonos. The app isn't perfect, but it's acceptable.. Updated: I don't know that I'll ever love the new app design but they've definitely improved it since my last 2-star review. The Sonos experience as a whole is 5 stars. I love these devices, plain and simple. Original Review: I'm split on this review, obviously. It's tempting to defiantly throw up a 1-star review and walk away without explanation but that would be unfair to a product that really is a standout. I've been a Sonos evangelist for years and years. The system has always been rock solid and the app intuitive -- flawless hardware and software. That all changed with the latest major version of the app. It's so confounding to those of us that have loved this product for years. I don't care that it's white -- stupid quibble. People can get over that. But the actual interactions I have with it while trying to play music in different rooms never seem to get easier. I eventually get what I want but it's not before cursing the new app several times for tricking me into the wrong area. I want so badly for Sonos to acknowledge their error and revert to the older-style navigation. It would be an easy 5-star review from me again.

They have totally screwed this app. The last update added the functionality to connect third party devices. The problem is that adding that functionality removed the ability to control the volume using the external volume controls on the iPhone. Of course, no one told me I was making that trade off before the update or I wouldn’t have updated. HERE’S WHAT’S WORSE: while playing songs from the music app, it skips to the next song before finishing the one that’s playing. Tech support via Twitter was no help and referred me to the 800 number. I waited on hold for over 30 minutes on three different occasions. Finally, I spoke with a tech who tested the response times of all the devices on my network. Conclusion: my iPhone isn’t responding quickly enough. Solution: use the iPad. He told me that I could start music playing on my iPad and then use my iPhone as a controller. However, when I do that, the skipping returns. So, the net is that the update made things worse, tech support was difficult to reach, and nothing has been fixed. If this was just a matter of switching to a new service, I’d do it in a heartbeat. But, I have a healthy sum of money invested in Sonos hardware. Not so easy to make the switch.

Great service. Horrible app. The concept of Sonos is great. Adding any/all music services to 1 platform that can play through the wifi and in sync sounds amazing … If the app ever connects. I’ve had Sonos for several years and the entire time I’ve had the same problem and they haven’t seemed to fix it. The app is extremely unreliable. “Can not connect to your Sonos network” is the message of my nightmares that I see 5 times a day. I will literally turn on a station on Sonos, walk away for 5 minutes and when I come back I can’t use the app because it won’t connect. (I’ve had this problem in multiple house with different WiFi’s) The system is working because music is playing it’s just the app says it cannot connect. It’ll take me 10-15 minutes of hopping off and on the wifi and closing out the app to try an troubleshoot the problem before anything’s works. But to be honest I think that’s actually doing that thing cuz it doesn’t always work. The app is just extremely unreliable when it comes to connecting with the system. At list point I just walk away and come back in 20min to see if it’s working again. Please fix this Sonos. I will buy an entire replacement product if I find one before this is been fixed. It’s literally been happening for years...

Ease of Use = Intuitive Navigation. I hate this app so much. But I give 3 stars instead of 2 because they finally added alphabetical search to artists, albums and songs. I’m still baffled at how the overall rating is so high. The primary function of this app should be to both easily access your library of music and play it! That is not happening. Examples: 1. I add the songs from my Apple Recently Added playlist to “My Sonos” for alleged easy access. But I don’t have the option to play the music as a playlist. Navigation is My Sonos> (Recently Added) Record Cover>Play. It should be My Sonos> Recently Added> (Option to) Play or Shuffle. Compilations should also be treated like a playlist. Where’s the convenience in navigating back to a list to play each song? Why do I have to add each song to a Sonos Playlist when it already exists as a list?!? 2. I get a 1002 error message anytime I select “play” from my Apple/My Music/Songs list or directly click on a song from that list. To avoid that last error scenario I have to click on the dotted menu option beside the song title and select play now/play next/replace queue/etc...

Use to be Amazing now it is Garbage.. I have thousands of dollars worth of Sonos equipment that has turned into pile of junk because now all of a sudden things don’t work the way they use to. App is constantly loosing connection. When you change songs there is a unbelievable amount of latency now. Many times songs don’t play. They will literally go bankrupt if they don’t fix this pronto. This is their bread and butter. I even bought the latest Sonos amp, I have two play:5s with Subwoofer. I have playbar and 2 Sonos 1 in 5.1 setup with sub. I have two Sonos play:1 in bedroom. I am panicking because I have several holiday parties scheduled at my house and I am completely dependent on Sonos system. I could easily play any music I wanted from any service and I bragged about Sonos a lot. Now I am going to have to eat my words and afraid my parties are going to be ruined. My home is laterally Sonos showroom and it is definitely going to do unrepairable damage to their reputation and ruin my holiday parties. Worst part is their customer support is non existent. I called in there was an over an hour wait. Now they are closed on weekend. They make y’all claims about 24/7 support don’t believe any of that. They ask you to post in their forums and hope someone like a power user replies.

Hate that you have to connect to Sonos server to do anything. There’s nothing more annoying than getting excited when your new pair of ones arrive, and the. When you try to add it to your existing beam and sub, you somehow need to sign in your account for some reason. For what!?? And if you’re going to do online integration for everything, the least you can do is have a reliable server and connections. My internet is fine, I’ve test it over and over with login to other sites via browsers, trying other apps. However despite my best efforts, when I tried the add speakers function, it gets stuck in a loading cycle for 5 mins. After rebooting my phone and trying again, I can finally get to a login page, which when I try to login, repeatedly prompt me to check my connections. My connections are fine Sonos, maybe check yours instead???? Seriously, a $1500 system all in and I can’t even set up a stupid 5.1 system without jumping through loops. GET IT FIXED! December 12, 2019. Seriously regret buying Sonos. I need a reliable speaker system, not whatever experiments you’re doing with your wireless network crap. Anyone reading this, just buy Bose and get it over with. I will not buy another sonos system again, and will probably sell mine. This is bs

Works as advertised...Great!. Over the past 3 years I have acquired the SONOS products to include the Play 1 and Play 5, several Connects and several SONOS Amps to control music throughout the house. It has allowed me to use some of my legacy speakers very effectively. The controller app works well but I am a tech person so easily understand some of the nuances to the features. My wife can use it well enough to play her favorites as well. I will note that as more features are added to the controller app, it gets more complicated and those technically challenged don't find it as easy to navigate the controls. Great products though and the sound can be perfectly matched to any room. One issue I discovered is that SiriusXM limits the number of simultaneous streams so if you are trying to play a channel in multiple rooms you will get a message cutting off the stream. I think their max is 2 or 3 simultaneous. Pandora works well for whole house events.

First time Sonos buyer. Let me start with the positive. The look, ease of use and the sound are all amazing. The bad. The Sonos speakers are big WiFi hogs. Had I read the reviews and Sonos users portal, I would not have purchased them. The speakers consistently drop out. All due to the WiFi network. I’ve been through three providers and the outcome is always the same. I’ve called Sonos and they work some magic, all works for about 15 minutes. Of course this is after I’ve hung up with support. The connectivity issue is all you find on the user portal. It is a major issue with Sonos, If you have more than on speaker. I have the surround setup and when it works, it is amazing. However the sub, play ones and occasionally the sound bar all drop off. If I had to guess, I’d say yesterday with all day Christmas music playing, the play ones and sub dropped off 10-15 times for 10-30 seconds. Sonos tells me the fix is a new router. Not the crappy ones you get with your internet provider. Thanks Sonos for the help. Once again had I known what I know now, I would have bought the Bose. It uses RF to link speakers and one speaker hooked to WiFi.

Great When It Works. We put Sonos in our new construction home three years ago, and while the concept is fantastic, we’ve had several issues in the three years since it’s installation. The two most frustrating issues have been: 1) It does not sync perfectly with the music library on the device from which you’re operating it from; for example, I tend to use my iPad Pro with my ENTIRE music library on the device in iTunes, yet there are several songs that cannot be found through the Sonos app, and after spending several hours and multiple calls to Sonos tech support they blame iTunes and threw their hands up. The music is clearly on my device yet the Sonos app can’t “see” all of the music “on this device”, very frustrating! 2) Often when we go to use the Sonos app on any of our devices (2 iPhones and 1 iPad) it cannot connect to the network and will not come up on the device, suggesting that you reboot the router. This is a hassle and inconvenience, and it happens about 50% of the time. Overall, love the concept and it’s great WHEN it works, but it’s quirks and functionality have made me question whether it was truly worth the investment we made when there are so many Bluetooth devices and streaming services available on the market.

Update - I’m starting to get mad! New update still needs a bug fix. Update: my Sonos streams now randomly cut out when I open my iPad - not when I open the app itself (which may have been running in the background - I don’t know). I know my brother has been complaining about the same thing for the past couple of weeks, and he’s in a different state with a different ISP. It may not be the Sonos app causing the problem, but I think it is. Original review: I am not able to switch rooms in the app. The room selector will not change rooms even after I deselect a room and select another room. I am only able to change rooms if I group the room I want with another room, and then deselect the room I grouped. It happens on my iPhone 7 and iPad Pro. I am running the latest iOS, and updated Sonos controller. The room selector menu is also hard to find. Really bad. BTW, I have a 6-zone Sonos system, and have been an ardent supporter since the early days of the company.

Unexpected Dissatisfaction. My family has been a frequent costumer of Sonos, with over 5 speakers all over our house in a variety of sizes. For the past 6 years since we’ve gotten our first speaker, the sound bar, we have been very pleased with our (expensive, yet) great quality speakers. They will cut out every now and then, most noticeable during movies, but that was only a slight annoyance compared to what we are dealing with now. Perhaps it is part of a new update (we have the latest version, so the app being outdated should not be an issue), or simply the app crashing, meaning it will be back up and running within a week hopefully. But, since this morning, Sonos has let us down. An overall irritation, disappointment, and not what we paid for! The speakers (rooms) have been unable to group, and some speakers are silent, despite the loud volume it is set on (they are also all plugged in). We could select a song or artist or radio to play, but the speaker will simply not react whatsoever. Being a loyal patron of Sonos, my family and I are frustrated and hope this issue is resolved quickly, especially with the holidays. But to those interested in purchasing one or more Sonos speakers, they have overall been a great investment for our family. We have been spoiled with these great speakers scattered around the house, making it so that when they suddenly fail to do what they are supposed to, it is especially aggravating.

Would never buy again. We invested $8000 in Sonos and now we have a system which doesn’t work like it did when installed and every month we get less and less from our investment. We made the mistake of purchasing 6 portable speakers in addition to the speakers in the ceiling of several rooms. When Sonos started changing over to Sonos 2, without telling us, they made any speaker that was unplugged from the wall socket useless when plugged back in. So the speaker we had used on our back porch in the summer would not work again the following summer when plugged back into the exact same outlet. I now own a $420 door stop and no longer have music on my outdoor patio. We are scared to death of dislodging a cord on any of the other 5 speakers or the woofer or the unit hooked up to our turntable because Sonos will unilaterally decommission those too. This goes against the entire idea of “portable”. My husband can’t access his music library stored on his computer (laughably the original reason we bought Sonos in the first place) and from what I read in chat rooms about other customer experiences with this Sonos 1 versus 2 issue, I guess we should be glad we are only out 8 grand - others have lost much more.

Speakers are great this update is infuriating. This update of the app is disappointing for three reasons. First the UI has changed making it more difficult to navigate through two rooms and the primary view for your playlists and favorites only shows a handful you need to click show all to see your entire lists. Second it seems to be performing less reliably than before. Rooms are dropped the last played audio is forgotten and groupings are frequently forgotten. Finally this app insists that you register a Sonos account in order to use all the features. This is absolutely ridiculous. It was working fine without a proprietary Sonos account before there is no new feature I need that should require a Sonos account. I do not want to sign up for another account on some other companies website that can be hacked or preached or used to harvest my personal information ways that I can’t control. I would much prefer that all the information at Sonos needs to be stored locally on either one of my controllers or on some of the hardware.

Auto updates are a MISTAKE. Sonos discontinued the ability to use the first remote controller they made and sold without telling anyone. All customers lost the ability to use the very expensive controllers they purchased . There is a second generation controller they made which is fabulous and still works. People can visit my home and controller the music without having to let them into my wi-fi network. I have had more than enough viruses and such from letting people use my network in the past that I simply do not allow it anymore. So the ability to have a remote hardware control device is a godsend. I am super happy with it. In fact, I bought three of them. I am seriously careful about updates and the day Sonos decides to have the 2nd generation controller not be supported, will be the day I do not do anymore updates. SO.... auto update... is not for me. And the face that they are not listing exactly what is in the updates... well...that is just lazy. Since this system works over our home network with all our other devices and computers which we bank with and do other private things with... SONOS needs to tell us what is in these updates.

It’s just... Okay (in app music searches kills the score). Listen, you’re shoehorned into using this app; regardless of whether you like it or not. That’s the price we pay I guess, for the luxury of having some of the best sounding speakers on the market. This app has multiple functions beyond just controlling your music. It’s also the tool used for calibrating your speakers and adding new ones to the ecosystem. It handles these tasks fairly well. When it comes to navigating your music, it’s just... okay. I can fairly simply choose to play different music in different rooms, which is cool. However I noticed I regularly just end up using AirPlay instead of the app; all because the search functionality is just awful. I could go into iOS music app, search for an artist, and be delivered literally everything I want from that artist. If I do the same in this Sonos app, I often scroll until I get so frustrated not being a old to find a song or album I want that I just end up going back to AirPlay again through the iOS music app. Same frustrations go for every style of search, be it album, song, playlist... the Sonos app very rarely offers me the music I want to hear from a simple search.

SO upset & disappointed. Bought Sonos speakers in 2014: Playbar, Bridge, 3 Play:1s, and 1 Play:5. Absolutely fell in love immediately and was truly grateful for such reliable and incredible audio throughout the house. We use them every day. Picked up a One SL a few years ago and it has had a few issues with connectivity with our existing speakers but still great sound. My complaint is with all the newer Sonos products and the Sonos app updates—I’ve had problems with speakers randomly turning on and off for at least 2 years now and it’s pretty aggravating. I would’ve expected the Sonos team to have ironed out these bugs by now, but perhaps it’s intentional. There’s nothing wrong with my 8 year old speakers, so why is Sonos pushing me to upgrade to their newer models? I say pushing because of their campaign to get customers to return their older models and use them for a discount towards newer ones, even warning that the older system would not be supported going forward. ?? That’s such trash. I’m so disappointed. I agree with other reviewers that this is about corporate greed. Why else would a company stop supporting their fine, slightly older products and strongly recommend upgrading system components when it’s unnecessary??

Sonos Lover but.... Have used sonos for seven years and really really love it. But, I hate the new app update Oct 2017. Used to be smooth and seamless but the app on my iPhone is now awkward, hard to read, difficulty finding and searching the music and get it going, difficult to get the rooms playing together, and requiring extra steps making playing music from my phone something I don't want to do anymore. If I want to change music I get up and go to my desktop. Please please change this back to what it was. Update: just got another update hoping this would fix everything and now it's worse. All my pandora stations are sorted by the date I created them and not in alphabetical order. I went to the settings to change this back to alphabetical and changing the settings does not fix the problem. I have to scroll through all of my stations and read everyone in order to find the one I want to because I do not know and do not care what date I created a station. Ugh! My sonos love is all gone.

Fantastic product, lousy UX. I hate to agree with another reviewer that criticized the latest update, but as a professional app developer, even I struggle with he new updated app. I have eleven Sonos products throughout my house and have been using it so long that several of my products are now obsolete. And until the controller was redesigned, I too have been a Sonos evangelist, telling anyone that would listen that they need to get rid of their stereo and get Sonos. The steps involved in performing the simplest operations now require travelling all over the app in ways that are highly non-intuitive. We have replaced our alarm clocks with Sonos units and it's a maze to turn off my daughter's alarm when school is delayed. After many, many years using the system, I now fumble and frequently put my music in the wrong room, lose queues, and struggle to get the tunes that I want. The product is great. I love having all of my music from a wide variety of sources in one place. I love being able to control music throughout my house, and yard, and workshop with one system. The sound quality is fantastic. But the new UI has to be rethought and re-redesigned.

Mystifying changes to a good app. Great product, but The latest app made bad changes to the interface for rooms management. It seems to be oriented to playing the same thing in multiple rooms but the implementation makes individual room control a gigantic pain. To switch rooms you have to uncheck one room and check the other. Oh, and If you flick The tab down rather than hitting “Done” start over. You will think unchecking a room turns off the music. It doesn’t. That may be ok, but I was so confused I wasn’t sure. Then there is this bug: In my case when unchecking dining room and checking family room (which I wanted to turn off), after hitting “Done” it kept going back to Dining room which happens to be he first name in the list. The only way I could turn off the music in the Family room was grouping both rooms and hitting off. I would trash this whole concept. Roll it back one version guys and forget this.

If you're not happy with Sonos - Call Support - Free & US based. Pros: We have had Sonos for over two years. We have 13 speakers throughout our house. It is the best thing ever! Recommend it to all my friends and usually have them come over to hear the system. For those of you having connection & disconnect problems please call their US-based technical support team FOR FREE! They are incredible! They will spend as much time as necessary to get your system up and running properly including running remote diagnostics. I wish other companies had such wonderful support for their products. I understand they have FREE lifetime telephone support as long as you own their product. How great is that? Cons: Sonos keeps changing their apps. It used to be so simple and wonderful to use. Then they came out with their new version of the app which is so much more complicated and harder to find where certain menus are located. I don't understand why they have to keep relocating menus....leave well enough alone! You had a great app and menus were very easy to find. (I still highly recommend the product!)

Disappointed. It’s a shame when you haven’t even had the chance to use the speaker and your already having problems. It just so happens that Sonos doesn’t have tech support available on the weekends to assist when the average human is needing it. I’m disappointed at the fact that I thought it would be a nice touch to bring the speaker to a bridal shower at a friends house for entertainment purposes. Connected it to the WiFi at her house, finally got everything setup and then couldn’t even use it because the speaker couldn’t just link to pandora without having my password. I couldn’t remember it to save my life. So I get it home the next day, and try to re-setup the speaker on the network in my house, thinking that this wouldn’t be so difficult according to the instruction video in the app/controller. I’ve unplugged the speaker, the router, plugged the Ethernet cable into a wireless router and the Internet box directly from the ISP, and nothing will work to have the speaker setup on my own network. The app/Controller instructs you to plug the Ethernet cable up and then wait for the mysterious green light that never comes on or to go to advanced settings which doesn’t appear anywhere in the app, or my personal favorite when the app tells you to select the SONOS wireless network that doesn’t appear. So lesson learned don’t take your Sonos anywhere and set it up unless you plan to leave it there!!! Because you won’t be able to set it up anywhere else!!!

Sound is great but customer service is a disaster. Love the sound and the app overall works well. Sonos customer service, however, is really bad. They obviously make it difficult to speak to someone or quickly resolve a problem. And they are closed on weekends. Joy. Our Sonos players are frozen as part of an update (8.4). The trouble shooting didn’t solve the problem and there is no way to play music. I guess we won’t be playing music at our dinner party tonight. I suppose this one downside of technology upgrades. Update: After 20 minutes on hold, I spoke with customer service. Went through all of the troubleshooting issues that were on the website. Didn’t solve problem. Apparently it is a hardware issue and I need to get a new modem for my Sonos system to update and function properly. It is what it is - the price of technology. My customer rep was really smart and patient, so I changed my review from 2 stars to 3 stars.

Horrible app update for a great system. The usability of the latest app update is just terrible. It's hard to believe this was actually green-lighted by the Sonos product team. The new UX makes it very frustrating for long time customers to figure out how to use the system in a multi (5) speaker household. It's a pain to find/select favorites, switch between speakers, etc. Other reviews have already covered the main usability challenges so I won't rehash. I trust that the Sonos product/UX team is working hard to address these issues (hopefully putting ego aside). 2 stars only for now till these serious usability problems are fixed in a subsequent update. Good luck. Previous review from ~2 years ago: ----------------------------------- The Sonos app has been much improved over the past 6 months with the latest few updates, both in terms of usability and interaction design as well as in support of additional music sources. The Sonos system itself is top notch -- smooth, uninterrupted audio play with great sound.

Clean and simple but a little unstable. While the Sonos speakers themselves sound good for what they are, that quality was the second priority behind my purchase. The value in Sonos lies in the app and the SonosNet that the speakers create and cast. The system is remarkably convenient and has allowed to me enhance and rejuvenate a very good but aging setup. On this aspect alone I would contribute five stars. The rub, however, is in the application. While, for the most part, the app/SonosNet interface and communication work well, there are irritating moments of dysfunction. The problem that I most often encounter is that the app will fail to communicate with the speakers for intermittent periods of time during which I cannot remotely control the components of my system. Less often, but proportionally more irritating, is when the sound from my Sonos Connect (which I use to port my home theatre into the SonosNet) will drop out repeatedly during a Netflix binge. This usually coincides with the previous problem and the two together constitute a significant disruption to the system’s functionality. While the app works well and (for the most part) easily, small but significant interludes of instability lead me to lower my rating alongside my satisfaction.

Songs on iPhone and iPad cut short. When I attempt to play any iTune playlists that I’ve loaded onto either my iPhone or my iPad the first few songs will play all the way through, but eventually Sonos will begin to only play part of a song and then it will skip to the next song, playing only part of that song and then skipping to the next song, and so on from that point on. I searched online and found that hundreds of other people are having the same problem and it appears there is no resolution for it yet. Sonos support wants to blame people’s routers but I have a hard time believing that hundreds of routers are dropping their connection at about the same exact point in every song. Also, if it was my router dropping the connection then why do the first few songs of a playlist always play all the way through, but then at some point they begin skipping part way through. I think Sonos needs to swallow their pride and hire some hotshot technicians/programmers to resolve this.

DO NOT BUY Into Sonos. Update July 2019: These Sonos idiots have decided that their hi-tech folks just can't keep up with iOS so playing music from your iToy will soon not be an option. Your options are streaming or your iTunes library on your PC: oh wait! ITunes is going away too. Grrrrr, a conspiracy? If you don't want to pay $10 a month for music you've already bought, or you want to listen music from your iToy, Sonos is NOT the way to go. I'll be looking at Bluetooth speakers. Too bad, Sonos One's have great sound, but if I can't play my iMusic library on them, I guess they'll make ok bookends. Sonos will soon be another burial in the tech cemetery: do not invest in their yesterday tech. Paired with Sonos speakers, you can sit with your iPad or iPhone is your easy chair, and select and play any music you own (if it's properly organized) and ... drum roll ... control the volume from your device. Selecting tracks and managing the queue is a breeze! The interface to iTunes for naming a music library is a bit clunky and can get out of sync if you specify more than one library on more than one PC, but if all your music is on the iPad, this is not an issue. Also, many popular streaming sources such as Pandora are supported. I just love this app!

Brilliant solution that works really well. We initially bought a single Sonos Play 5 speaker just to try it out. It worked so well I went straight back to the store and bought another couple more. We had no WiFi or setup issues, no dropouts or glitches - it was just simply plug n play. Despite needing access to the in-house WiFi, Sonos does not seem to affect any of the other WiFi tech that lives here under the same roof - it all co-exists very nicely. Now we enjoy beautiful music in every corner of the house both upstairs and downstairs, all at the touch of a button. The quality of the sound output from the Sonos Play 5 speakers is unbelievably good and easily fills the room. The Sonos app works great, is very stable and offers access to wide variety of music services. We used the Radio plugin by TuneIn as we love listening to the Cinemix radio station which plays fabulous music (and it's free too!! ) The Sonos app easily integrated with my existing digital music collection so I can now stream high quality music from the net, or from the phone or from the PC, and I can stream any of those sources in any combination easily. Sonos is simply brilliant!! The solution works well for us and we love it!!

Never misses a beat!. I started out with a single Sonos speaker a few years ago. My home has now evolved into a multi-unit Sonos environment with speakers in several rooms, a Playbar and Bass. I have never had a single problem with any of my speakers or wireless connectivity. It all works so wonderfully well. I use the app on my iPhone and iPad daily as well as on my PC. Nothing ever disappoints. I have never regretted my decision to buy Sonos products.

I'm in love.. Everything about this system is fantastic, and so intuitive. All the streaming is so easy, searching for new songs, queuing together multiple playlists, setting alarms and sleep timers.. Beautiful. I adore my sonos system and can't recommend it enough if you love to have music playing all the time. I have two in my main area set up to play radio from 10am and then relaxing music around dinner time and finally turn off at 11pm. I've one in my bedroom queued similarly but with different music. When I have a party different areas of the house can have different things going on. 11/10 just do it.

Speaker is fine but the app is the worst. We have an older Sonos speaker, at least 6yrs old now. When we first got it, everything worked great. But then Sonos kept updating the app - like every month a new update. The constant monthly updates were frustrating, and over time the app was glitchy and stopped working consistently. Now it just doesn’t work at all (yep, I’ve tried re-installing) so now I just have an expensive speaker that I can’t use. Comparatively, I have a 10yr old Bose system that works like a dream - not a problem for the whole time I’ve had it - just plug in my device and play my music! If you are purchasing a Sonos just be aware that Sonos relies on their app software to work, and if that stops working for you then there is very minimal support to get it going again. If you are ok to spend a lot of money every 5 years to update your speakers, then Sonos is the system for you! Otherwise, I think you can find a few better options out there.

Support is great, especially in Australia. I have had very few issues with a multi zone SONOS set up all hardwired, when I have had an issue such one zone dropping out, the support guys have been generous with their time and advice, problem has been solved each time. I am extremely happy with Sonos, just waiting for a Siri version of sonos 1 so I can ask for specific Apple Music tracks in different zones.

Ok but…... I won’t lie, being able to listen to music without having to update every day or two is a good thing but honestly, what’s with all the interruptions? If it’s not “tune in” chiming in every couple of minutes, it’s Australian ads forced over international stations, even so far as to interrupt right in the middle of the music. I realise Sonos will say say “Hey were just the platform” but they really need to regulate what’s coming out of their apps.

Used to be great. Now confusing to use.. I was recommended Sonos a few years back and fell in love with the system. I now have every Sonos component. Any they have been fantastic. Until now! Why Sonos keeps changing their App controller is beyond me. They had perfection and then, a few weeks ago they changed their App. Why? It's harder to use and for a user perspective it adds absolutely nothing to the functionality of the system. It's impossible to recommend a system where the company puts such a low value existing, committed customers that it gets them to replace a perfectly functional App with a confused version. Please Sonos, if you cannot improve the functionality of your App, leave it alone.

Perhaps problem with latest update on my system?. Latest app update (13 Apr 21) doesn’t work with my iPhone SE connecting to my system. App continues to ask for me to reconnect to my system, then when it says ‘done’ it boots me back to the login screen again. iPad login for app is ok - so problem appears to be limited to IPhone app only. Updated - suddenly started working again. No issues now

Sonos is great except when your wifi can’t find it!. I think the standard of sound is amazing and the Sonos system is definitely worth investing your money in as the sound throughout the hose is wonderful! The only down side is that it seems to hiccup and have to have a convoluted reboot if someone else controls it from a device other than the primary device it is used to pairing with. Not quite sure why..Sonos troubleshooting team have been very helpful though when this has occurred.

Big step backward. More than 3 years with Sonos, have Bridge, Play3 & Play5. Overall everything was fine, I was absolutely happy. Happy till the latest application's updates. Sorry guys, but that new Sonos app for iPad is just a frustrating mess in comparison with what we had before. Cute, simple, very functional and streamlined UI for some reason has been replaced with an obtuse, tangled and distoted mock of a user interface, that manages to make sick even me, who is usually quite tolerant to any kind of developer's oddities. When I see it I feel nothing but disgust, embarrassment and bewilderment. What have you done? Why, oh why?

Bit Lumpy. We have some heritage Amp style Sonos units which limit us to Sonos-1. The need to replace the units is frustrating especially since they’re not cheap and having paid for good quality gear; And the upgrade / replacement supposed deal Sonos offers gives little acknowledgement to the investment already made and is expensive. The Sonos-1 app is functional enough but it can take a while to do things especially with the interface with Tuned-In. Have also been unable to get the app to work on the Mac.

Warranty issue?. Shame you ‘washed their hands of my play 5 seeing as it was 25 months old(after a power outage in my area it didnt want to accept reconnection). It had never been dropped, shaken, wet or mishandled!!. The fact that you ONLY give a twelve month warranty now makes sense,.....sure you’re happy to sell me another Play 5 for 50% off,...HOWEVER I can’t afford to spend $1200 on one speaker every three years!!

Love it, with caveats. I love having Sonos at home. I have a large house with several different zones, including an outdoor workshop. I can easily move the music to each respective zone as I change what I’m doing I do wish, however, that Sonos also worked as an independent music player on the App so that you could use just one interface to play music no matter where you were A portable Sonos would be really handy, as would headphones maybe, but I guess that would kind of be counter productive to Sonos sales! All told, great quality and versatility throughout the home courtesy of Sonos!!

Great sound. Terrible system. Ive had these Sonos speakers for over a year now. They sound great when They work. However, because they work over wifi only, i’m often left without sound. I also, can’t use them like other computer attach speakers. So i have to have a completely separate set of speakers if i want to play other sounds besides music/spotify/itunes. When i do play music the Sonos never works 100% of the time. Often not finding my music library or cutting out. I really dont enjoy the Sonos experience and am trying to sell my speakers.

Best in the business!. It took me a year to choose which soundbar and wireless system to purchase. What a waste!!! Finally got the Playbase and an extra Play1 for the kitchen/bedroom and it was the BEST DECISION ever :))) The APP is fantastic, integrated all my music apps in one click and it's so user friendly. Sound quality is by far the best to play music. And of course being able to control both speakers independently. An AMAZING system to look up by competitors. If you go Sonos you can't go backos ;)

Frustratingly Complicated. This is the most overly complicated speaker ever made. Every few weeks it’s disconnects and it takes hours to re-set and re-connect everything. It won’t work unless location services are turned on, it won’t without an account that you have hand over your personal details for, it won’t work unless it’s connected to the internet, it won’t stay connected for more than a week or 2 then you have to go through all the set procedures again. That’s just for 1 Basic speaker, I can’t imagine how awful this system would be with multiple speakers in different rooms. Mines going on the bin and being replaced with something like a JBL that’s sounds great, is portable and is simple and easy to use. These things are an absolute joke.

Used to be a great product. I don’t know what they’ve done in their most recent software releases but my Sonos is now so buggy, I can barely get it to work most days. I spend all my time resetting the controller, turning my router on and off, rebooting my playbar and player One and finally reinstalling the app - just to get it to connect! All this while standing 1 metre from the Sonos and my router. Despite which I’ve had to connect it in Boost mode with an Ethernet cable just to get it to work. Every other wifi device in my house works perfectly and I get 20mbps/7mbps average speed so I don’t know why Sonos is so buggy. Used to work perfectly until about 2 months ago.

Great hardware. Poor software.. The title pretty much says it all. I’ve had Sonos for a few years and I love the speakers. For their size they put out a very good quality sound. The fact you can have several different speakers in different rooms playing the same song at the same time wasn’t possible with Bluetooth speakers when I was looking around. Where this system falls down, is the controller. The interaction between mobile device and router means you are constantly troubleshooting some sort of problem. Most annoying is it constantly skipping songs and Sonos’ answer? Check your hardware. Funny, I’ve never had problems with my hardware before. Might as well go back to listening to scratched up cd’s.

I love sonos. I put off getting a sonos system for ages. Since I have had one I wish I had bought it sooner. The sound is amazing and it is consistently great. It is he best wireless music system I have tried and rarely has a glitch which means you can rely on it. The app works really well and the regular updates mean better features and easy use. The original and the best!

Difficult to impossible to play podcasts now.. It works well, except for the odd update issue when the app won’t sync with the wifi correctly. A lot of windows to navigate between. I’m really disappointed that I can’t play podcasts now. I have tried to save files differently to play them but still can’t access them through SONOS. Please fix this!! I am thinking of defecting for this reason. Don’t make it difficult to play podcasts. People don’t have time or energy to faff about with it.

New interface for iPhone app is a step backwards. I'm a big fan of the sonos system, and have the speakers set up in 4 rooms. The sound is more than adequate. The ability to zone different tunes across the house or switch to party mode is fantastic. However, the latest version of the iPhone app (v8) is far less user friendly than the previous version. Gone is the intuitive interface. Oversized icons results in only 2 icons being visible on screen at a time, resulting in annoying left to right scrolling when trying to browse through playlists and radio stations. Hopefully sonos bring back the "sonos favourites" in the future iPhone app updates.

Horrible changes to the app.. Been using Sonos daily for years now. Recent gratuitous app changes leave us cursing and swearing as we try to negotiate to the usual most used portions. Rather than optimise the app so that frequent operations are more intuitive and less operations to access, some bright spark had the idea to make everything even more difficult and less intuitive. Then there are the newly introduced and still not fixed issues of walking into the kitchen and being told there is no wifi here. I can run a network scan from the iPhone and all Sonos speakers show up but I have to stop and restart wifi and sometimes the app to get it to connect. Please fix this. We are invested in Sonos but if it continues to annoy and disappoint I will have to get a working solution.

I feel totally conned. I feel totally conned by Sonos. I’ve spent THOUSANDS of dollars on speakers. There have always been issues with songs cutting off when played from iOS devices. Despite changing wifi frequencies I never managed to resolve this. It’s a common problem. I lived with it. Now we are advised we will no longer be able to play music from iOS devices. Um ... really ? So I have to pay for a steaming service and can’t play my own owned music unless I use a desktop ? Hardly moving forward. I also have some older speakers and some newer ones. The older ones are now just a glorified radio. What a con. What a waste of money. I’m moving to Bose. Avoid Sonos at all costs.

Massive massive backward step. I used to love Sonos and would recommend it to everyone, but not anymore... the new app interface is so so bad it is almost unusable. I very rarely leave bad reviews but felt compelled to this time. Never before have i encountered such a backward step in an “update”. I’ve unfortunately invested in sonos so am stuck with it now, but won’t be recommending it again until they fix the functionality of the god awful ap. Just revert it!!

Sensational once you get your WiFi sorted. I've had Sonos for about 6 years now. The first year was painful as I had not got my WiFi set up correctly. I was always having connectivity issues. Then I paid for someone to fix that and now I love Sonos. Sure we have the occasional issue now but it's not Sonos. It's our WiFi if it goes down. Couldn't live without Sonos now. Thank you.

Love the speakers, but the app is terrible. For a system with such slick hardware that I love, the app is a continual disappointment. It has really gone backwards in the last two years. 1. Constantly demanding updates, often preventing the playing of music until updated. 2. Navigation/menu system. Too many taps to just get a song going 3. No control from lock screen. Have to unlock phone, swipe to page with app, open app just to control volume. Frustrating that this basic functionality which existed when I bought the speakers is no longer available. 4. Playlist songs and albums frequently stop being available - this is possibly a fault of Apple Music, but there’s no warning and it means deleting and re-adding music to favourites.

Speakers are wonderful but app has gone backwards. I went from 3 speakers to 7 inc. Sub and loving it. I've completely replaced all my sound equipment, for surround sound and music. It's not cheap but I'm really happy with the quality and versatility. Sure, there are better pure audiophile speakers out there but in terms of balancing versatility and quality Sonos is spot on. I’ve had enough equipment over the past 15 years to know the difference. Unfortunately Sonos has taken a backward step when it comes to the App. It’s now not as initiative making it harder to group speakers and access my music. It’s also a little buggy on my iPhone X. With lock screen controls and hardware buttons not working.

Sonos Play 1 x2 & Sonos. New review, We have now added another Play 1 & a Playbar. They are great working together with the Tv for movies and seamlessly switch between tv or music. With a play with the settings the music is soo much better. Now just to add a sub later. Previous review The start of something great now for more to add to the collection. The sound is better than most big sound systems and having full control on all digital devices is so great.

Love it - 4.5 stars!. Been with sonos for 3 years and it has never missed a beat. Gone from 1 speaker, to 2, to having the whole house filled with them including the sound bar, sub and surround speakers. The only downside I have found is the lack of HDMI on the play bar which limits you to optical and depending on your TV can also limit you to 2.1 sound, but I got around that limitation by purchasing a cheap HDMI audio splitter from jay car, plugged my streaming device in to the switch, the switch optical out to the play bar and now I have perfect audio and constant 5.1 sound. Loads of forum posts complain about the HDMI limitation and audio lip sync problems and this setup worked for me with Apple TV gen 4 (non 4k version). Hopefully HDMI and a new play bar that supports more then 5.1 is on the cards :)

James Gall. I have had Sonos for 10 years. I agree totally with Metal Man. For a number of years the Sonos controller was easy, worked very fast and directly. BUT NOT NOW. Control off Sonos has become cumbersome, slow and unreliable. My friends used to use the app. No way they can do it now. Too many software updates have made the system now very very poor. Software updates often do this with most apps. Very disappointing Sonos. You have listened too much to your developers. System is poor now.

Sonos Move and others. We have a full system at our home with 5 zones with portable speakers and voice activated speakers for both inside and outside. Nothing short of fantastic. We also have a “Move” speaker at our holiday house. Again nothing short of fantastic. You can move the speaker around where you need it and the sound quality out of all systems is perfect with the highest quality. If you think I love my Sonos you’re correct.

Can’t get TV remote to work with Playbase. I’m new to the Sonos eco system and have recently bought a Playbase, 2 Sonos One SL and a Play 5. Have plans to buy the Sub in the next couple of weeks. Moving over from Bose I find Sonos to be better in terms of sound quality and I absolutely love the app. However, I cannot use my TV remote to control the volume on my Playbase. The instructions on the app simply didn’t work and could never get through to the customer care number. If Sonos is reading my review please get in touch with me or provide me with an alternative method for my inquiry.

Less than 1 star. I would never buy a Sonos system ever again. The trouble you constantly face and it’s a very frustrating one is that it’s connectivity is hugely unreliable. If the kids have fiddled with the router or extender the Sonos system always needs to be reset and this doesn’t always work as most of the time there is some glitch saying the speaker can’t be found or the network can’t be found. It’s incredibly frustrating and half the time it lies idle due to connection problems. Bring back the wired system anyday, at least there 100% reliable, with Sonos you’ll end up bald tearing your hair out most of the time

Love the product, not the App.. I love my Sonos system, but it is getting ridiculous that we can still not use Airplay from other apps directly to Sonos, or like/dislike songs in Apple Music in app to keep our preferences correct, or easily update and play podcasts without needing to download every episode as it comes out to the IPhone and then play through that. An avid fan turned frustrated user.

Poor quality move portable speaker. I bought the move speaker was in he worst experience I ever had in potable Bluetooth or wireless speakers. The battery level went to zero even when the speaker waa totally switched off. I called Sonos fir support and fir the last 2 months still testing it remotely . Every time you call them they came with different test scenario . Very disappointed if the poor quality of portable move speaker and even more disappointed with Sonos technical support . I paid $640 for it but you know I should go back to Bose where I have them in use for 20 years and I even never I had to call them.

Love the gear, hate the app. Had SONOS gear for over 10 years, just had to throw out my CR100 controllers! They were still the easiest way to use SONOS. The apps just keep getting worse. Not intuitive, overly complex, hard to navigate. Current version needs throwing out and a whole new design implemented. So rating this 1 star for app controller. 5 stars for the gear though - still best multi-room system.

A big step backwards. I've had sonos for a few years now. Once I overcame the spanning tree network issue that brought my entire LAN to its knees (I used an API hack to turn the wifi off), I happily made use of the sonos gear in quite a few rooms. A few months ago, my only criticism would have been a jitter issue that is noticeable, especially on my home theatre system. The recent changes to the iOS app interface are a huge step backwards in usability. The app is no longer intuitive. The app now requires more steps to get music playing then before. Like many users, I wish I could have the old app back. I would no longer recommend Sonos. There are better systems on the market nowadays and the very thing that attracted people to sonos (the highly functional app interface) has been changed beyond recognition.

Sonos convert. For years I have enjoyed traditional hi fi through some great gear but since my son showed me the possibilities and sound quality of the Sonos products my beloved system has been mostly silent. It was the sound bar and play ones coupled with the sub woofer that really impressed me with movies and then the following day having joined the set of play ones with our barbecue area set streaming some Rock that I finally agreed that this is the future and how lucky I am to have a son who lives this stuff ! Thanks Sonos for some ripper products. Steve Truman

Love our Sonos, just wish they had a Watch app. Love our Sonos systems in our ceiling and our portable units. We’ve been using this app for a while and it works well. Only reason I took off a star is that there is still no Watch app and it’s constantly telling me I need updates which is frustrating. Please make a Watch app - just something simple where you can choose a room and hit play to restart whatever was playing before. Nothing fancy just something simple please.

Screwed over again. Be warned, technology changes and so do apps. Therefore, so does the functionality of your system and not always for the better. I bought a play 5 some years back and loved it, well, I loved the combination of the app and the hardware. Then the app changed to look like rubbish. I got over my disappointment with the app and expanded my system to include full 5.1 in my TV room. Loved it. But now the app has changed again and removed a key feature, “lock screen control”, a feature I have raved about because it was so incredibly user friendly. Now it’s gone and I’m seriously ticked off with Sonos. This is not an improvement and it’s not the first time. Be warned people, these guys will change the free app and screw with your very very expensive sound system and there ain’t nothing you can do about it.

Frequent Updates are Frustrating. I have had sonos components for a few years now and have no complaints about the sound quality, though you do pay for this. My main issue with the system is the frequency of updates. The typical scenario is where I feel like listening to some music, open the app and it says “updates available” and so i am directed to the app store to download. 10 mins later it then tells me update the speaker software or else I wont get the full experience, or something like this. So another 15 mins later I am finally ready to play some music. Well sadly the opportunity has often gone by then. It feels a unnecessary and that it is a opportunity for sonos to gather your metadata rather than keeping the system performing at its best.

Playback stops regularly using Xs. Worked perfectly for the last 5 years but since changing to iPhone XS from it has never worked well when playing from ‘this device’. Have tried different wifi channels, disabled bluetooth, updated everything, don’t use Airplay anywhere in the house but still can’t play a full 3 minute track without interruption. Still works perfectly on the old iPhone 5, which is why 3 stars, with the same 10.0.1 version controller Please fix the latest update for the Xs

Poor integration. I really like the idea behind Sonos but after having the system for a few years I am beginning to regret my decision. With a wired system it just plays and you don't have to worry about wireless connection issues etc. With the Sonos system there is always something that isn't working. Some days it will be connecting to the network and other days some of the speakers drop out and on other days everything works well. Continued trouble shooting is a pain. You also can play music videos with the system because of a built in delay which means voice and video are out of sync. The app is also poorly set out and does not integrate well with other app such as iTunes so on the whole not great.

Just one fault. This app is brilliant, the only fault I can find is when playing tracks from a personal iTunes library off a phone or PC, the tracks that have previously had running times manually edited by the owner are not recognised by the app & are played in full? Why is this Sonos? Can it be corrected please? I have an extensive iTunes library with many edits, it’s frustrating that when played thru Sonos these edits are not accepted.

Great Products. Great products, excellent sound, easy to set up and use. Have playbar, sub, play 5 and play3's. Amazing how you can have different music/tv/ streaming at the same in different rooms. The app on Mac, iPad and iPhone all work great and very easy. Support second to none. Sonos even lobbied a radio station and got it added to tunein for me that was in an unsuitable format for Sonos. Highly recommend

Unreliable connection! Always cutting out and searching for wifi. Had no issues with this until this evening when trying to play music. It's never been an issue connecting to my wifi but for some reason this evening it will connect to my wifi for a while and when I try to play music, it will play some songs but not others, then it will skip songs half way, then sometimes it won't even play songs (the progress bar doesn't move even though I can see there seems to be music being played when I go to the queue) completely unreliable now!!! Always says unable to connect to Sonos and will constantly search for Sonos. It works for a while when I turn wifi off and on but I can't be expected to keep doing that all the time.

Great hardware, frustrating software. We use our system about once a fortnight. About every second or third time I use it I am forced by the system to do an update or to re authorise my streaming account or reset wifi to access my network storage... it takes 10 minutes of stuffing around to play a song. Hence... we use our system about once a fortnight. I’d use it more but the messing around with tech issues takes the pleasure out of putting on a song to listen to. Pity. Update - just downgraded to 1 star as recent app changes now render all my 5 Sonos speakers (2 x s1, s3, soundbar and zone player) useless bricks. Nothing will connect, whole system re set up also failed. So very very angry and frustrated with this company!!!

Getting worse everyday. Use to be my preferred solution. If I wasn’t invested in Sonos speakers I’d dump it. Updates....usually goes into a loop of ‘needs to update’ to ‘updating’ then back to ‘needs to update’. Solution....quit Sonos app before doing the update. Deciding which hardware is compatible...using it no drama, older iPad. Apple Music still working fine, but then the Sonos team decide an update is in order. After the update...this hardware is no longer compatible. No update of OS, nothing changed by Apple, but Sonos have decided to force you to either buy new apple hardware or dump using its software. Basically, more arrogant then Apple itself. Wont buy anymore Sonos speakers, and given time, will dump the hardware I have.

So good but room for more.. My speaker is around 5 years old so if they’ve upgraded to Bluetooth connectivity as well in the meantime then my apologies. I love the speaker, it’s seriously awesome! But when the WiFi is out then we have a problem. The price point seems excessive however I’m a philistine when it comes to tonal changes and can enjoy music through a cheap car stereo as much as the most expensive sound system (my Sonos was a gift). I haven’t figured out how to connect it to my TV if that’s even possible either. So I guess for me, being able to have it connected via Bluetooth and WiFi as well as using it as surround sound (once I get a few more of them that is) would be the ultimate. Right now, we really enjoy our single unit as the household wake up alarm with our favourite tunes to start the day with dancing.

Top quality sound system. I have been wanting a Sonos sound system for quite some time but was a bit unsure on sending the money, then my local shop had a sale so I decided to purchase a play1 and sound bar and I’m so glad I did it is the best quality sound I have ever heard the seem less connection is amazing and I would highly recommend from r sure

No support for play on this device!!. I find it ridiculous that after purchasing Sonos speakers, connectors and bridges the functionality to play music from iPhone, iPod, iPad etc has been supported for les that 1 year before starting to have major bugs and skip music or stop playing all together!!! 3 years later after acknowledging the bug and having totally hopeless in fixing it, now Sonos is stopping to support the functionality ro push us to subscribe to streaming or buying new speakers. Shame on you. For sale a full Sonos system!

No longer worth the money. I hate that they force you to upgrade. In the past I have been forced to upgrade when things were working well and after the upgrade they didn’t work well. Make it optional, don't force people to do it. I can no longer listen to the podcasts on my iPhone. It seems brutal that they took away the ability to access content on your phone except if you buy newer versions of the speakers.

Poor. The sound of the physical speaks are good. I have nothing good to say about their app. Connectivity Smart wise User friendly Wifi only connectivity?? Loll Yeah non of those are good. Well good for me and my uses. Unfortunately i can not recommend sonos to anyone. Not for physical quality. But for the frustration times you’ll spent dealing with the app

Ads?. So I over pay for a speaker system, then this company will just brick your devices at will and claim it some how helps the environment. Now I have F#*!ing ads being pushed on to my app when I want to listen to music!! Cause I guess I didn’t pay enough money to this amazingly junky company!!! I can not get away from this company fast enough. 0 out of 5 is my true rating. If you are just starting with Sonos you should get your money back, and leave this company. You will truly be better off. *update* Enough F#*!ing ads!!! Oh and let me delete your junk radio station!!! Run away from this garbage!!

Latest Update messed up my speakers. Whatever you did.... undo! The app update knocked out most of my speakers including my surround sound The app is hit and miss as to weather or not it picks up rooms Had my system for a year (playbase, three Sonos Ones,Sonos 3, and a subwoofer) and love it, normally But this latest update was amateur hour...

Love and Hate!. Could be so much better! In most cases it is a great App however it has too many frustrating network issues. The worst is dealing with it during a dinner party and everyone is watching me deal with it…. with no music at the party.

Radio. Suddenly I’m not getting “Radio by Tune in” ? Why ? What else are you censoring?

Feature removal - spamming. I don’t like it when developers remove existing features which work perfectly because they’re whoring for streaming providers. Sonos has been doing that a lot. I also don’t wanna see ads in my app, when I’m trying to play music.

Long time owner. Disappointed to say the least. The last S1 software update has bricked nine devices. Currently we have one new generation device that works. Following the help section & restarting all devices on a existing system was fruitless. Setting up a new system is our next step, which has been done twice before & I’m too frustrated for that again. Such a pain for the money spent.

Improvement needed. Great concept. Lots of stations. Actually too many to every go through in one life time. A nuisance with app is that you have to open the app to turn down the volume or to see who is playing. If music is playing you should be able to pause, play and control the volume without unlocking your phone. Other music playing apps like, grooveshark and radio paradise have this feature.

The worst software I’ve used for a speaker ever!. Is everyone over there at sonos huffing glue? Tryin rearrange rooms quick, connect to a different network or god forbid to unplug your internet for a second! Every time i use this app i have to try to figure it out all over again and it usually makes me mad. All of my sonos products are for sale if i dont blast them with a shotgun before the weekend

Why can’t I play from my iTunes library anymore?. I used to love my Sonos speakers but now that I can’t use them to play from my music library on my ipad and iPhone, they are basically useless to me. This is a classic case of taking a perfectly good product and “updating” it into a useless product. I don’t want to have to sign up and pay for a streaming service when the speakers worked just fine before with my music library.

Search. Search is no longer working for us - we can still play items that are favourited but search just “spins”. Please advise.

Not good. Constantly crash. Im started to think that they inserted some stuff im the code to make the app crash so much…and force u to “upgrade” so sonos 2

Love my Sonos. I'm a lover of music and a lover of listening to said music on my Sonos player. I have the play 3 and it works for my kitchen and living room. It's a pretty great sounding system and pretty loud as well.

Difficutly. Every time I have to reconnect my phone and says no existing system, Ive tried everything

Lack of support for new sono speakers. 🙄

Very poor eng’g. I was a very early adopter of Sonos. Spent over 2k in products. Then they did an update, was no longer able to stream directly from my iPhone.

Buggy system. I have to reboot my system before using. Every. Single. Time.

It Would Be great if. I could listen to an entire song when streaming Deezer. Constantly loses connection to Deezer and skips songs. Works great with other apps like Sirius and the radio. Deezer has no problems when I listen directly to it.

Bad..... Play 5 S1. Doesn’t connect. Telling me to reboot router and speaker. Needs rebooting every day now. No more support.

Disappointed. Although I like the idea of the system, I am disappointed with the service. Why? 1) in 2018 it was supposed to be compatible with Google home. Each time I inquired about this I was told a scripted story. I bought the system because of the compatibility. To find a couple of years later it will never happen is a waste of my money. 2) this year I found out that my I Pad mini cannot get updates to the app so now I can’t connect through my I Pad. A disappointing purchase and I won’t recommend Sonos to other people.

Not happy. The latest versions don’t allow you to play music you have on you iPhone. Now you have to upload your music to a steaming service and pay 9.99 a month to play music you already bought.

Not impressed. I have had Sonia for many many years. I am not impress

Stupid product. Should simply connect with bluetooth and play but the product is stupid. Developer should use it in his/her wedding 👍🤌

Sonos removes features after you buy it!. One of the main features that attracted me to Sonos was the ability to listen to music I keep on my iPhone around the house. Sonos then decided to remove that ability! It’s like I bought a car and the manufacturer decided that once I had it for six months, I can no longer drive faster than a bicycle. Don’t buy this product!

Wont connect. It won’t connect anymore. Going throw this entire system in the garbage! Glad I spent $3600 only for it be Obsolete in 5 years! Never buy Sonos as soon a sales drop they upgrade equipment and discontinue products and stop supporting it. Nothing like a company that is concerned about the customers, reputation and environment!

Great fun. The TV sound bar and two satellite speakers give me great TV sound and my tunes sound great as well.

Removed ability to play local music. I can no longer play music stored on my iPhone. Very disappointed, replacing Sonos soon.

So now need 2 apps for sonos?. So let me get this straight. Now I need two apps for music with sonos. One for the ‘old “ product..ie a few years old…and one for the new ones. What a bunch of bunk. Should have stuck with regular speakers and 8 track cassettes. They still work

Glitches. Sonos often cuts out or ends a song before it’s done and skips to the next one when playing Apple Music.

Keeps prompting me to use Sonos 2. Cannot get to the S1 app because it is constantly trying to get me to upgrade to S2 and there is no way to dismiss the message. I only have older models so I can’t use the S2 app.

Abandoned....... After thousands of dollars of investment feels like I am flapping in the wind.....a lot of unhappy customers on the line with me. The same people that helped your business get off the ground......

Worst system ever READ THE 1 STAR REVIEWS. No idea how this app gets over 4 stars. I would give it zero if I could. Super glitchy, randomly won't connect, doesn't load all the songs or playlists from my music service(just picks them at random), and list list of bugs goes on and never seems to be corrected, for years now....like how can a business exist with such poor support. I've contacted Sonos a few times a year when my system refuses to work, and to get things back up and running there doesn't seem to be a solid solution. It is very random and frustrating. Especially if you are trying to entertain with your "awesome house wide sound system" and then it just won't work for a few days then magically starts working again. This is the biggest purchase regret of my life. Just get a Bose Bluetooth system that plays directly from your phone and save yourself the headaches.

Sonos continues to disappoint. Cumbersome software. Problems using S1 system that never seem to end. An investment in products down the drain. A stock market manipulation.

New App Version Ensures Your Speaker Cannot Be Found. I just updated the app again, only to find in doing so the speaker can no longer be found. There is no fix to this through the app. No matter what instructions I follow, it will not find my speaker. Not related at all to the wifi.

Too many updates and over again even more. Can you leave things alone for a little while it is ridiculous how many updates are happening!!! I am sick of the updates!!!

Loss of Functionality- 1 Star. The functionality of Sonos was great when it played content from the media on the phone. Losing this functionality is a big disappointment. My enjoyment of Sonos now is significantly reduced. I would not recommend Sonos as it forces one to subscribe and pay for content by a music provider if one wants to control the music they listen to.

Sucks now. Can’t play the music off my phone anymore! Half the reason I bought Sonos. Unbelievable!!

Avec plusieurs directives. Mon sonos coupe à chaque jour vers 15:00 15:30

Review. What more can I say, SONOS is awesome well worth the cash. Sonos is great for home events the sound is clear and the base is awesome.

Brutal. I have to listen to ads before public radio plays. Dirty pool sonos. Greedy.

Constantly Needing to Reconnect Devices. Once I month I have to reconnect all of my Sonos devices. Brutal.

Hate that I need separate apps. Love the speakers, hate that I need two apps after literally spending thousands of dollars to outfit my house over time as I could afford it.

Unsupported app with ads. Ads are invasive. App is no longer supported.

Good tech turned bad. My speaker worked great for years. Now, because they are pushing a “new”, “more expensive” speaker that I can’t afford, they cripple my perfectly good speaker. Songs stop playing half way through. Search is artificially crippled. Ads in the app all the time now. Very, very, very disappointed.

Sonos. When I first bought my Sonos I thought it was the best thing until approximately 3 years after I purchased it and Sonos was using planned obsolescence well I had bought just over 8 speakers which was extremely expensive but when I woke up that morning. I thought it was a another Sonos day running around reconnecting everything only to realize I was going to be last for a customer who in turn was experiencing the exact same problem turns out that morning Sonos purposely disabled (bricked {industry term}) all speakers that were purchased 3 years earlier and then started a sale that offered you 10% off your new purchase of another Sonos speaker (which by the way was up 20% ) the idea of a speaker and even the software allowed you to play from Alexa Siri and even Google but more importantly from your phone even computer but after the Sonos obsolescence only option there was is the Sonos radio station, it’s connectivity is great too bad the reliability is down right criminal as this would be like buying a car and the dealership saying after 3 years your car doesn’t work we will give you 10% off your next purchase if you buy another one from us for three years personally Sonos can screw itself after spending $$$$$ to not have anything left that works I started buying UE Boom and Bose to replace my Sonos systems. Friken garbage thieves for the price you pay

It used to work. This app seemed to work well for a year and a half. Now suddenly it doesn’t recognize the speakers. I follow the steps on the app to connect them. It tells me they are connected, then brings me back to the same pre-connection screen. Then I do it all again… it’s Groundhog Day and I’ve given up hope of ever listening to music on these speakers again. Thanks for the landfill and soon-to-be-deleted app.

Google Home. The connectivity with Google Home is horrible. Sonos must have rushed the Google Home connectivity to market....it doesn’t work. Very poorly executed.

Fantastic. I have had a Sonos Sound system for the last four years and it has never let me down. Music playing constantly in our home. Good music contributes to a good attitude. Love it!

Sonos, Still the Best Whole House Sound System. I love my Sonos system that I use to provide whole house high quality sound through out my home. I started small with one room and over time I now can listen to music in all my rooms. The WiFi connections are far superior to Bluetooth networks. There is a caveat for using WiFi and that it will force you to modernize you home WiFi routers and networks to provide the widest frequency bandwidths needed to handle all the IoT devices available now and in the near future. Sonos speakers are a great compromise between expensive over priced audiophile speaker systems and just having a good sounding speaker system capable of accurately reproducing today's digitally streamed music. Yes, there are other competitive systems out there. I chose Sonos because of its simplicity to setup and compatibility with most of the available music services.

Horrible reliability, beyond unacceptable. I am finding myself calling Sonos customer service for the third time since I’ve installed my latest product, which sadly was only Christmas. Six weeks ago. Reliability is abysmal. Some specifics… The system used to be able to play from airplay, no more. Connect-drop. Connect-drop. Another example… It won’t go seamlessly between my surroundsound for the TV and playing music. I spent $700 on this playbar and then learned that I have to reconfigure the system in order to go between surround sound on the TV and stereo music. If I had known I had to pick between stereo music and surround sound for TV in the same room I never would’ve spent the money!!! Third issue... they tell you that they will play from the iPhone music library? They don’t tell you that they truncate my music list. I have about 25% of my music library available within Sonos app. Random missing music. WHY???? If I could just access my music library I wouldn’t have to worry about the Airplay issues. DON’T BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Sonos does not work to play songs off an I phone.. I am very disappointed with SONOS’ lack of ability to fix a glitch in their system. Until about a year ago, a user could easily play the songs from their I phone. Was very convenient & one of the best features of the SONOS system. I have had the system in my whole house for approximately 3 years and loved it. Then about a year ago, when playing songs from the I phone, the songs would randomly skip in the middle of one song & start playing another song. Other times it would just go silent even though the controller shows that the song is playing. SONOS is well aware of the problem (that was never a problem when I first bought the system for the whole house). The SONOS tech people blame APPLE (who actually sells the system in their stores). It has been too long for SONOS to find a solution for this well documented & widespread problem with their system. Very disappointing responsiveness from what seems like a quality company with a quality product.

Awesome but could be Amazing. Sonos’ hardware clearly is amazing, top quality. The app is very easy to use, but they make changes, I feel, simply to “make changes”, even if it means going backwards. For example, you used to be able to control the volume and play of songs from your lock screen. Then they simply got rid of that, adding 5 more steps to the process of controlling volume and play. Why? When I contacted Sonos they brushed me off. I can’t imagine customers like having 5 more steps added to basic function. Also, even if you don’t close the app, after 5 minutes it automatically departs from the song playlist you are playing in favor of the main screen. So you have to go through all of the steps to get back into the playlist area and find it just to see the playlist itself. Why? It’s almost as if the programmers don’t use Sonos themselves at home!

Frustrating. The Sonos S1 app causes me nothing but frustration every time I try to use it. I admit I have older Sonos products in my house: the original Play:5 and a pair of original Play:1s. Prior to Sonos releasing “smart speakers” (which is part of the reason why there are now two different Sonos apps for speaker control), my system worked flawlessly. Now? Not so much. Since I have the older speakers, I have to use the S1 app, which has cut down in my use and enjoyment of the Sonos system. Getting the app to actually open and allow me to control my system is a constant frustration. I frequently get the “Unable to connect to Sonos” error. Switching wifi off and back on my iOS device never seems to help, nor does the occasional reboot of my ENTIRE wifi system (which, frankly, shouldn’t be necessary…EVERYTHING else I have running on the same wifi doesn’t give me fits like this). When I AM able to finally connect and use the system, I will inevitably find that the connection gets lost when attempting to change the music, change the volume, or stop the stream altogether. More often than not, I have to resort to unplugging my Sonos speaker to turn it off. This ridiculousness has definitely made me think twice about wanting to invest in any new Sonos equipment (which itself is another headache. Why do I need to replace entire products that had been working well just because of some product updates that aren’t relevant to me?)

Sonos Used to be great. We have had several Sonos units in our home for years and enjoyed them quite a lot. Also recommended them to family and friends. However, since the last “upgrade” we have not found it easy to use the system. The app is not user friendly as it was in the past. We have a strong WiFi connection yet the Sonos unit keeps shutting down for no apparent reason. Too many glitches! We’ve switched to using our Echo units instead. Update to my review: We moved the Sonos/Alexa unit to a room closer to our WiFi router. The signal is much improved and so is the reliability of the connection. However, the unit acts like it’s “hard of hearing”. LOL! We have to use a louder, deeper voice tone to get a response to play a radio station or Pandora. It also does not respond to the command Volume Up or Down. We must use the buttons on the top of the unit to control the volume. Very annoying!

When it works, it works great. When it's working the way it should, it works great. I wish that would be all the time. When it doesn't work, it's incredibly frustrating. For example, sometimes the Alexa will signal that it's waiting for a command, but not actually take any commands. Sometimes Alexa will not respond to her call, even though all the microphones are on. There was a period where depending on how you asked to change volume, it would be on a scale of 1 to 100 or 1 to 10 since Sonos and Alexa had different volume scales. Also, sometimes when I ask it to skip songs, it works just fine, other times it says I can't skip songs right now, and it's on the same station and I have Pandora premium. Again, I love it when it works, but I hate it when it doesn't. Hopefully over time the software will get better as it seems to be changing, but often in frustrating or broken ways.

Please get a new focus group. The new panel-based UI is a step backwards. The list of errors is long, but the 2 worst ones are 1) it takes longer to do things and 2) the Pandora saved stations list is no longer alphabetized; it changes every time you use it! Frickin’ maddening. Many others have complained about it, so I won’t repeat them here. Here’s an example of my first gripe. When you select a “room” you back out of THAT menu and go into the BROWSE menu (why not just call it “music” for Gods sake, so all the menu choices are nouns? I could be browsing my speaker/rooms collection after all. Think about it please). Anyway, while in the browse/music menu there is no indication of what speaker (excuse me, “room”) will play the music I’m choosing. If I forget, I’ve got to close that menu, look at the bottom of the screen to see which “room” is active, and then open the browse/music _again_. I do have many speakers/rooms/zones and frequently play 2-3 types of music on various combinations, so yeah, these issues make it all harder to manage, not easier.

Incredible Sound. I ordered my first Sonos wireless speaker after having dinner at a friend’s home. All evening, we were surrounded by the most beautiful music I had ever heard in someone’s home. I asked our host about his “sound system.” He laughed and said, “I would hardly call two speakers and an IPhone a system!” He went on to introduce me to the two most unobtrusive speakers I have seen. He explained how easy they were to set up and how long he had been using them. The next day I ordered a speaker for our home expecting to need assistance setting it up. To my delight, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I actually enjoyed the experience of setting it up myself. We have had the speaker for nearly a year and have enjoyed it every single day especially for dinner music. Our home is small so one speaker does it all. It was the best $199 I ever spent!

I wouldn’t even have Sonos if I saw it AFTER the latest update. When my AV guy showed me Sonos and the Sonos app, I was all in. It was exactly what I wanted - A user friendly interface that didn’t require reading a manual about A/V equipment and settings. Easy to control rooms independently or together etc. And then came the update. Now navigating the app is more difficult and not intuitive at all. This isn’t because it’s new, I can do new. This is a bad design. The user experience went from a 5 to a 2, hence the 2 stars. Sometimes it’s better not to change something just for the sake of change... just look at the Edmunds app. Worked wonderfully, they updated it and it suuuuucked. So they rolled it back. “Our bad. We’ve made navigation the way it way and added additional functionality”. Problem solved. Sonos would be smart to follow suit. The product itself is still amazing, but the primary interface needs rolled back to the previous version.

Inexcusable Alexa Integration Flaw. Upon hearing the wake word, the Sonos One makes a BOOP sound that is disproportionately loud, extremely annoying, and totally unnecessary. All of Amazon’s Alexa products (Echo, etc) have an available feature to disable this wake sound, but Sonos inexplicably does not. I have found threads online regarding this complaint that contain claims from Sonos representatives from six months ago asserting that a fix in the works. Six months later, I am highly skeptical a fix is ever coming. This flaw renders the Alexa feature completely unusable for me so I have completely disabled the microphone on both my Sonos Ones and abandoned prior plans to outfit the rest of my house with Sonos speakers. I will never purchase another Sonos product or recommend them to anyone who asks unless and until this inexcusable flaw is corrected.

User interface. This app wastes so much space on useless or infrequently used items in the settings page like having a separate front page button for privacy and legal which both could easily been put under app settings but still refuse to put back alarms which is a feature many people use on a daily bases. I was originally going to wait on writing a review until after they released their fix for burying the alarms, but now that it’s out the new “shortcut” to alarms is still just as convoluted. The frustrating part is that on the settings page where alarms used to be, half of the page is blank and what is there are 7 sections that are rarely used if at all (like legal), and this wouldn’t be too big of an issue if the settings page wasn’t automatically the one page that pops up every time you open the app. If they don’t want to put alarms on the front page of settings that’s fine but at least let me change the “home page” of the app allowing it to open on the rooms page whenever I launch the app so that way I have access to the only 2 features I use more than once a year... music & alarms.

Best system ever. Although the system is expensive, it is worth every penny. As a singer and music lover, i am completely sold on Sonos and have recommended it to many people. I started out with a pair of play 1's and have added numerous others and a playbar...little by little and as I could afford it. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I also get complements on the sound in my house whenever I have company over and because all you have to do is plug it in and have a wifi connection, it is extremely versatile. I have my wishlist of sonos add-on speakers and accessories (turntable, etc) that I am continuing to work through. If you are hesitating because of the cost, just try to save up for 1 and then add on as I did, as you can afford it. It will be worth it. You truly do get what you pay for...quality!

Musical Explorations. In addition to a Sonos surround system (Playbar, Sub, two Play 1's) for my 4K television monitor, I have a Sonos Connect that enables me to stream music through an existing high end sound system (B&W 801 speakers, Bryston amps and CD player). I enjoy the variety of classical music I can stream through tunein radio as well as good jazz through Jazz 24. I recently returned from a trip to the Netherlands and have been able to listen to a radio station we heard while there. Ditto, classical stations from New York and Chicago. Because of compression, the sound is not as dynamic and involving as an FM signal, but it does lack the interference associated with such signals. An OK trade off. The Sonos systems I use have been reliable and easy to navigate. I occasionally am not able to stream a local classical station, but suspect the problem is on their end---not Sonos's. I've not been able to successfully use the "line in" feature to play music through my surround system from my CD player---unacceptable drop outs and low sound quality due to inability of surround system to handle an uncompressed source. Despite the few problems I've encountered, I enjoy my Sonos surround system immensely as well as the variety of musical explorations I can make using my Sonos Connect. Technical support has been outstanding.

Was good until ....... I use Sonos at work so that I don't have to work is complete silence. Also. So that I could connect my Apple Music to it. And for months it was working perfectly fine. I liked that I was able to control the music from the office plus from my phone if I stepped away from my desk. Recently, ( like yesterday ) when I try to access the Sonos app on my phone it's telling me I cannot use it until I install the latest version - providing me with an external link. When following the link a " Sonos beta " app is downloaded. But when you try to access it, Apple says this app has not been deemed trustworthy therefore can not be used. The link then goes on with instructions on how to bypass this untrustworthy situation. But in the end I have two apps, that do not work whatsoever & a waste of my time. So I'm not sure what's going on here with Sonos, but I had to delete both apps since I can't use them. BUT before all of that, I loved the app. Which is why I can't completely write them off yet.

Do NOT buy Sonos. Maybe you have a collection of music on your iPhone? Maybe you have an iPhone or that can connect to other devices via WiFi? Maybe you purchased several hundreds of dollars of Sonos speakers because they can receive WiFi input? Maybe you think that you have all the tools you need to play YOUR music, on YOUR speakers via YOUR WiFi. Well.....SURPRISE!!! Sonos just screwed you. Oh, not if you pay some subscription fee every month to Apple. Sonos speaker’s have great sound. I have owned them for years. And they USED to play my music from my iPhone wirelessly. But then they decided to bait and switch every person who bought their product. Don’t buy Sonos. Find an alternative. This is not a trustworthy company. They will take the product benefits you once had. The product benefits you purchased. And then steal them back and monetize them. No thanks. I’m not going to pay Apple to listen to the music I bought, that are stored on a phone that I bought, on speakers that I bought, via a WiFi signal that I also paid for. RIDICULOUS!!

High Quality Audio - Horrible Update Again!!. After 6 years of owning my Sonos I am still amazed that this company would shut down my Sonos Connect until I downloaded their flawed update. This is the third time I’ve been aggravated by their flawed update and if I had just purchased this product I would be returning it immediately. I always prefer to update my devices once the “bugs are worked out”. Why would Sonos even put out an update without extensive testing and reviewing periods? It speaks to their foolishness or maybe a sense of urgency to collect and sell customer’s personal information. Why else would Sonos need to access your cellular data for a unit that is hard wired at your home (and not mobile). When I purchased my Sonos it played Pandora commercials just once every few hours. Their updates changed that benefit too. There are better choices for streaming at home and I will not ever again recommend a Sonos anyone.

V 8.6 Crashes Constantly on iPhone X. Just like the review title says. Crashes constantly on the iPhone X. Usually after browsing songs in Apple Music. Also it STILL doesn’t work to retune speakers with TruePlay using the iPhone X and also the iPhone 8 from what I have read. Both phones have been out for over six months. Oh yeah and the icing on the cake is that you won’t learn that TruePlay doesn’t work on your iPhone X until you have completed the entire process and it freezes indefinitely on the last step. Since SONOS knows this doesn’t work (I learned about it when I tried to find info in their forums...and there is info about this) it would be kind of nice if they popped up a warning at the START of the process to let you know you can’t do it on your particular hardware. So why do I still rate this app a 4? Because overall it is still an awesome app. I’m optimistic SONOS will fix these issues (hopefully soon) but in the meantime you should be aware of them.

Average speakers terrible software. Sonos makes average speakers. They make terrible software and should seriously think out outsourcing it to someone else. They update their terrible software on a frequent basis, not to fix bugs but to introduce more bugs and take features away with each revision. This would be so bad if they didn’t lock the app and force you to upgrade their app to play songs through the software. I’ve had the product for about 2 and a half years. When I first purchased it I could play songs on my speakers. I could even play the songs I had purchased and downloaded to my device from iTunes. Now slowly but surely, with each forced update to their software, that is required to use the speakers I’ve bought and paid for, they have whittled down the sources from where you can play music. These updates have also added “features” that cause the app to stop playing music to the correct speaker, stop play music at the correct volume, or just stop playing music all together. All thanks to the glorious mandated software and it’s many forced updates. I basically have four $500 paper weights now. Buyer beware.

Worst upgrade!. I run a professional AV company, and we install LOTS of Sonos. It's easily learned and used by folks who are otherwise non-technical. This latest 8.0 update is terrible. Sure, there are cosmetic issues like the bright white background, but more serious is the new navigation and UI. Why did they have to move Sonos Favorites to a different place than the Pandora and Sirius Favorites? Why did they have to remove the little play/pause icon from each of the Favorite channel logos? Now, while you're looking at your favorite channels, you can't tell which channel is playing unless you go to the now playing page.... so stupid. Also, previously there was always a little arrow at the top left of the screen where all your music could be accessed. Now, on some screens it's there, but on some other screens you have to go to the bottom toolbar to access your music. Why separate the music that way? And, IMHO, the new white background is more than just a subjective complaint. It eats battery life, and is so much less pleasant when using the controller in reduced lighting situations. Hate it. Does anyone know how to down-grade back to 7.4?

Interface is quirky. Acute Problem. Latest version including today’s 8.2.1 is broken. Recently added albums and playlists in my Apple Music Library are not syncing to Sonos. Sonos controller is clueless that I made a Sibelius playlist yesterday. My macOS and iOS devices are all synced, but my Sonos controllers aren’t. I often wish I could stream to Sonos directly from iTunes or iOS Music like airplay devices. Sonos proprietary controller is just not as rock solid as it should be. Previous Review: The speakers work and sound great. Connects to my massive Apple Music iCloud Music Library just fine, even though it takes a while to sync my latest additions. iTunes changed the names of the Apple Music tabs quite a while ago, but this app still has the old titles. My pet peeves are that it does not know how to ignore "The" when listing alphabetically, and the "Albums" listing is not by artist. Also, it does not give the alphabet listed vertically to speed up scrolling down to artist down the alphabet like U2 & Van Halen. Being very used to the many options the iTunes interface provides, this seems very limited and rigid.

Nightmare if 2 diff systems on same WIFI. I’ve had 2 Play5’s for about a year now. When I can get them to work, I think they are the best quality sound of any speakers I’ve ever owned. The problem is that it is extremely hard to listen to music with them. I am a renter in a multi-unit house, using the same Wifi network as my neighbor/landlord. We both own Sonos and have the systems segregated with different email login. Its a nightmare to connect to my system. It ALWAYS auto-connects to the wrong system and about 60-70% of days that I go through the hassle of trying to sign into my account and connect to the correct speakers it just doesn't work. Its like the controller app forgets about systems it was connected to and stops displaying them for weeks at a time. The step where you pair device with a temporary wifi network for the phone to connect to, also never works. For the price of these hardware, the lack of quality and reliability with the smartphone app is fraud.

Rarely works when I want to use it.. Updating to say I rarely get to use this when I want to. It seems that every time I log in to use the app I need to reset the controller and add the speakers in one by one. I wish I would have bought a different brand. Speakers are worthless if you can’t use them When it works it works great, however I would say at least once a week I have an issue with it. It’s so annoying that I can’t just push the button and play my music. Today I got an error that it can’t read the music. So I guess I’ll listen from my phone. It’s kind of annoying because I have five different speakers in my house and spent about $1500 on a sound system that I can’t even use. I was talked into the system at the store over the BOSE. within a week I had trouble and had to reconfigure everything. I bought the system in November and I would say I have had to reconfigure at least 10 times. Sometimes that doesn’t even work though😫

Crumbling on the basics. I’ve had a Sonos system for years and have generally adored it. But the latest app update has caused two major problems for me that are driving me mad. 1. The addition of Airplay2 support (which I don’t need/want) means that MY LOCK SCREEN CONTROLS DISAPPEARED!!! This is absolutely absurd. Now I have to unlock my phone and open the app (it doesn’t stay open) to see what’s playing, skip a song, change volume, or anything at all. Which brings me to 2. The app consistently freezes when I go to reopen it. So if I want to skip a song, it looks like this: pick up phone, unlock phone, open app, tap unresponsive app, double-tap/swipe to shut down app, wait for frozen app to respond, app shuts down, reopen app, app comes up on the same frozen screen and then reboots itself, hit “next.” To say I’m very disappointed right now would be a huge understatement. Sonos’ product management team needs to get their act together. Viable alternatives are entering the market now, and you’ll lose your head start if you can’t deliver basic functionality.

Some of the worst customer service. My controller hasn't been able to connect to the speakers since the last update, on two separate devices. One device that hasn't received the update works just fine. I've gone through all of their frequent problems, resulting in being worst off then before. Their email technical support has been useless - never actually reading my responses. Their phone technical support is only available while I work. And now I'm calling them while at work trying to get them to pay attention to the problem or get some sort of adequate response. -i haven't been able to talk to a real person yet and I've been on hold for 14 minutes and counting. (4 more then my break). I'm going to give up on this call now. Update - their customer service is still complete trash. Lately I spend more the running an update then actually being able to use it. And half the updates leave it messed up requiring more customer service time. Which is garbage and useless. Overall I spend more time dealing with problems then enjoying. Such a waste of money.

Frustrating. First, the positive, my whole house runs on Sonos because it works so well in controlling the 12 zones. But the negative is starting to outweigh the positive and I’m considering another foundation to push the music through my Nuvo player. It seems as though they change the way the app looks monthly and how it functions. Call me an “old”, but I’ve used Sonos for at least six years for the same reason I stick with Apple, it always looked the same and the ease of use. The app continues to update, changing not only its look, but also how you change the music. It’s growing increasingly frustrating and I’m tired of getting stuck in the damned app trying to figure out how to play some music. If I have to continue to figure this out, I’m going to learn a new platform and use it.

New add speaker won’t connect cause loss of whole system.. I’ve had a Sonos Playbar, Sub, and Bridge since they first came out. When those were purchased I had some minor issues getting my Playbar to sync w the Bridge and my WiFi. A few year go by and now that Sonos came out with Sonos One smart speaker I decided to give it a go for my bedroom. Simply put the new speaker would not connect to my existing setup I have followed every step possible that I could research online some of them ridiculous on the steps they want you to take to attempt to connect a WiFi speaker. In the end I thought possibly my Bridge(no longer produced was the issue) and in an attempt to take signal strength out of the equation I went and purchased a new Boost unit. I wiped my entire system and started from scratch even to the extend of uninstalling the app and re installing it. Boost is found ok good to go. Well no I still cannot connect any of my speakers. This systems went from decent to utter crap in a few years. I dunno how Sonos claims easy setup. Nothing but headaches!

New update is horrendous. I can be resistant to change, so I thought I should give this one some time. Well, it’s been a month, and I still cannot stand it. I use Sonos multiple times per day, and it’s gone from being something that was seamlessly integrated in my life to something I now dread using. They said it was supposed to be easier to use; I’m pretty sure the person who wrote that had never used the app before. Everything takes more taps. The giant icons instead of lists make it harder and less intuitive to navigate. They did a lot of things wrong, but moving the access to the “rooms” from being always at the top to a tab in the bottom was the worst. You should be able to “pause all” or lower the volume with two taps maximum. A month is typically more than enough time for me to adjust to an update, so I would have to say this is a massive fail. Please Sonos, at LEAST create some preference settings where we can change the navigation style of the favorites to lists and change the white background to black. That would help.

WAS great... Used to love this app but after they updated with the ios11, and since, it’s become me an app that I want to use less and less. Sonos no longer saves previous speaker settings so switching anything becomes a longer task than before. And that’s after the daunting task of switching rooms. The fastest way I can get it to work now is to group the new speakers(s), let that update, then go back in and ungroup the speaker(s) I don’t want. If you try to check the new speaker(s) you want and uncheck the current speaker, then hit done, it’ll show it updated but doesn’t and just stays on the speakers you had selected in the first place. Also, I’ve noticed lately if I’m playing a playlist off my phone it’ll skip over the songs as if there’s an error even though they are downloaded on my phone. I’ll be listening to a playlist and next thing there will be a long pause then it’ll play 5 or more songs after. Sometimes it’ll just start the playlist over. Only happens when I’m using it on the Sonos app. Can you please fix these?

It’s amazing!. I never heard of Sonos before November. My family and I rented a brach house for thanksgiving and it had a full Sonos system installed. I’m a nut for technology so of course I had to add the same functionality in my home. After seeing the sticker prices for S2 equipment, I started to research S1. I have home theater speakers in various rooms in my house and love the idea of tying them into a centralized system to play music. I also loved the idea of tying in music speakers in various rooms in the house that don’t have TVs. I bough a few connect amps and connects, all S1, and have been amazed at the ease of set up and use. I am expanding the system to vertically every room in my house. The app is wonderful. Easy to set up and it’s reliable. I have most of my amps and connects hard wired which may be why it’s working so well. I have other brand receivers and built in speakers and they all sound great.

My Sonos Music System is amazing!. I have had an 18 component Sonos music system throughout my house, garage, and patio for a year and a half! It has been an amazing music system, including the snazzy packaging and easy and fun set up! It’s aesthetically pleasing to look at and cool! I have enjoyed showing it off to my friends! I’ve even created a “Show Off” playlist of many unique songs that demonstrate the range, fidelity, and capability of my Sonos system that I easily wow those inquiring friends with! In the old days, we would have to spend countless hours trolling the record stores hoping to find our next favorite song! We would buy an entire CD only to discover we just like one song! Now, I like to say that with the magic of streaming and beauty Sonos, all of the music on earth conveniently finds me from the comfort of my home! ~Greg G.

How I “used” to love this app. I have been using Sonos products for the last 4 years and I thought Nirvana had arrived. Not the group, the pleasure of the experience. I used the app every single day and what started out with the Play 1 quickly grew into multiple 1s, a 3 and several 5s. The Playbase was going to be next, but that came to a screeching Halt when Sonos decided to F up the app. What had been a perfect, straight forward app you could operate without your glasses, without having your morning coffee, without even thinking about it, is now a nightmare. First the horrendous blinding white screen of snow blindness but far more egregious is the entire layout change. It takes forever to figure out where things are, how to go back to the menu, how to perform a search and I still can’t figure out how to add and edit stations. It was a complete piece of cake before, and now it’s a complete piece of S*it. My love affair is over and while the actual product is fabulous, the app is so bad it has killed the enjoyment. I hope another developer comes up with an app that works. I’d even pay for it and drop this crappy disaster.

No longer able to play locally stored music. With the removal of the “play from device” function in the Sonos app, Sonos effectively killed the primary reason we purchased these speakers. That, and given that we have the Play:1, means we can no longer directly play music that is locally stored on our devices via our Sonos speakers (without some over complicated, indirect route). While Sonos will never acknowledge it, we have no doubt this was a move to push its customers into purchasing new hardware, which supports AirPlay, using the ruse that the evolution of iOS renders the engineering of this function impossible. Not only has Apple disputed that claim, we aren’t playing a game of, effectively, planned obsolescence to push customers into buying more Sonos hardware. We’re off to another platform, and we’re just waiting to see the first signs of a class action lawsuit; based merely on the reviews posted here, too many people appear to have lost too much money due to Sonos’ decision for this litigious society to not consider legal action.

Fix the skip issue. My roommate uses the Sonos app and has been complaining about it skipping songs for months now. I downloaded it and tried it out and as soon as I would lock my phone songs would be skipped 30 seconds later. Every song, there are no full songs that play when the phone is locked. I looked the issue up and I saw this has been a problem for 6+ months now. This is absolutely unacceptable for a device that requires an app to play and does not allow Bluetooth. It is a shame because the device itself is hands down one of the best I’ve used in terms of quality, but is rendered useless because the app refuses to play a full song. To be quite truthful Sonos should be embarrassed because this has been a known issue for over 6 months and dev team have still not fixed it. It’s not like it’s something they can let slide, it’s very blatant that many people are experiencing issues. If roku’s app had an issue where videos were being skipped the problem would be addressed and fixed in days

SONOS. In general, this innovative system has transformed our home. We have had Sonos since it was introduced to the market. It has developed into an easy to use sound delivery system providing our home with music, news and podcasts with smart phone and computer app controls that are easy to use. The sound is quite good and its several autonomous modular options allow flexibility of delivery. Stereo is readily achievable by pairing modular units. Occasional software updates can slow things up a bit. At times the system seems to forget where it is and asks me to start from scratch. I don’t like passwords and find it unnecessary for something like Sonos. I know the trend will be to have AI invading our homes so I hope Sonos has an opt out feature to allow those of us not interested in being spied on to have a simple server in the house and have to endure the vagaries of AI second guessing our every decision regarding the simplest of pleasures.

Love Sonos but wish S1 & S2 could mix. Sonos is the best streaming system for whole house audio but I wish S1 and S2 equipment could work as a mixed system playing same content. I understand upgrades and improvements of technology but I have around 20 S1 “legacy” devices which I can’t afford to replace all at once. The whole point of my original Sonos effort was to integrate mix of various other legacy audio systems and bring music to rooms without existing speakers. Now to “upgrade” I would need to sacrifice all that and and live with fragmented audio until the entire system could be upgraded. I’m thankful they still support the S1 but really wish they could integrate both versions. If they did that I would start buying the newer technology but until then my system is “frozen”

Slow and clunky. This app had been great for years but recently it’s getting slower and slower to open and they have been moving things to unintuitive places. There are giant buttons for your favorites so where a list of 10 items used to fit on the screen now only 2-3 do and you have have to tap extra times. To switch to an item at the end of your favorites used to take 3 taps, not it takes 6 and nearly 4 times as long when you consider the slow launch time. Where are the Apple Watch controls? Let's get on that! Apple Music integration needs some work. Why can't I add to my library when I hear a song I like? Lock screen integration is good and bad. Often times someone else is listening to sonos and I have a podcast running and I get the wrong controls. A today widget would be better.... The "added to queue" message stays up too long and kills the flow when you are adding lots of music to your queue.

App controller is garbage. Let me first say I LOVE Sonos. That being said the app is now complicated and pain to use. Every update I hope that they just go back to the previous one. Sometimes good intentions turn bad. Realize this and correct it please. I can’t tell you how much I HATE the new controller. It used to take a button or two to control everything you needed. Not now - not intuitive controls at all. Also, the system just stops for no reason now, but I think a call to customer service can probably resolve this based on other reviews. Update. The new release is a bandaid placed on a severed artery. You say you are listening to us. Prove it. We keep saying the previous version was so much better. It would be nice to tap the playing now box and be able to change the music like before. Still not very user friendly.

Best sound system for the $$$. I currently have 5 speakers and a Sonos boost and am looking at adding at least 4 more. Best investment I've made in years. Love the quality of the equipment and the sound produced! Works very well the only issues I've had have been part of my learning how to use the app and it's features, self inflicted you might say. My wife and I listen to completely different types of music so this system is a god send! When we entertain at our house it is wonderful to be able to play the same music throughout the entire house. Keep doing what you are doing Sonos, love your product and that you are constantly trying to improve it. I did purchase the additional speakers and I enjoy the music every day no matter which room I’m in. I even take one of the speakers outside when I am in the garden. I really enjoy your product!!!

Latest app version is horrible. I really like sonos, I have 8 speakers around the house and have been using it happily for 5+ years. But the recent update of the app is a constant pain. Things that were super easy to do in previous versions are now harder and confusing: changing the volume, switching rooms, selecting music - all these basic actions are now harder to find and harder to do requiring more concentration and time and gestures. It’s not change aversion - the new app UX is simply not designed for the most common use cases. For example, why is the room switching screen has the names of the rooms secondary to the title of the music in the room, and why is it easier to group rooms than switch them, and why are the chips so large that one needs to scroll so much to find a room? I wish Sonos just reverts back to the old UI.

Common Theme - UI Changes Poor. I am an absolute lover of Sonos and have placed one in just about every nook of my house that I can justify. As a system, I love its functionality and sound. I’ve also been a vocal fan to others, making many others, Sonos fans as well. All that said, the app changes are horrendous. Lack of intuitive flow, increase in unnecessary clicks to accomplish a task, favorites being isolated, and no user flexibility to try and customize (fix) the new changes, to just name some of the issues. The prior app could accomplish music changes, room grouping, selection of favorites easily and effective from one screen. As often as I use this app, I still find myself clicking where I shouldn’t when trying to play my Sonos - an experience I never had with the prior app. Please, for all the feedback received, do something about this. If going back to a “classic” layout is not an option, give us a single page functionality option or some user customization to avail us, familiar with the old app, some sanity and an ability to regain the previously great experience. Thank you.

A SOUND INVESTMENT. This is one of The best speakers that I’ve ever in my 50 years of life have owned. I tell everyone , and I mean everyone that sound quality , power, volume and the displacement of this tiny speaker can make your home or office something just short of a concert sounding venue. If you would like to pay me to be a sponsor and do commercials for you via Facebook and Instagram when I go live to prospect future car owners to come purchase cars from me , I would gladly support SONOS because I believe in what I do which makes me successful, and I also wouldn’t push something just for financial gain, cause I believe in myself therefore that’s what I sell and if I put my name on it it has to be something that does what I say and I would stand behind it. SONOS is that type of product and I believe in it and wouldn’t own anything else.

Super system. I simply love it. Great sound, no wires, and lots of music choices. I have a TV playbar plus two Play1's for surround sound (totally awesome), a Play1 for my bedroom, two Play3's on my patio (paired for stereo) and now an Amp in my basement powering my outdoor by the pool weatherproof Bose speakers. Just amazing how I can tap into pandora, XM, radio stations, my cd's downloaded on my iTunes. Wow. Just great. Added Another amp connect at Christmas 2015 for my in ceiling basement speaker and continue to love this system. Wish it was less expensive but I love it July 2016 update. Sonos updated their software and I find staying connected more challenging. My router has a 2.4 and 5 and I have an extender that extends each with another name. So I have 4 wifi names at my house and for some reason, Sonia now only connects to one of my names. This was not an issue previously so please fix this!!!!!! October 2017 update - another update from Sonos on the App- actually makes switching rooms more difficult and also finding my favorites harder to find. Sonos makes a GREAT product (actually products) but sometimes, they go overboard in trying to have the perfect app and now have made it more confusing. How I long for the design of 1 year ago. Please please please.

Christmas present to my self. I have been wanting to buy myself a great sound quality, Wi-Fi, bluetooth and home surround system for a few years now. I wanted a great quality sound that I could integrate one buy one through out my house. I wanted speakers to be small enough to place on book shelf’s but still capable of produce big sound from Classical to Hard Rock and everything in between. Cranking up my Sonos Play:3 sounds clean and loud when listening to every genre of music especially Beatle music. I did listened to a few similar speakers and found that for the features I mentioned, Sonos was the way go. I can’t wait to save enough to buy a Sonos Play: 5. By the way being able to connect to Alexa is a nice feature to have. I’m setting up a whole home wireless automation system and Sonos is going to be a nice part of it.

Great speakers but just about the worst wireless system and app. I live for tech and work in tech and this is the absolute worst system I’ve ever used. Sonos, why in the world do you push so many updates non stop?? As a customer, just trying to use the system as is, I’m constantly having to reset my bridge/network and go through your update process, that eventually, after minutes of waiting will say “something went wrong with your update”😡😡😡 Then to add insult to injury, the system won’t let me use my Apple Music subscription on Sonos until updates are complete. Had I not spent so much money on your speakers, I would have left your products along time ago. Clearly you are a speaker company trying to create software to support a wireless speaker system, but your approach is completely failing in my world! Stop requiring your customers go through updates! Just let me use what works! Once Apple makes their home speaker system robust... I’m out, which I’m sure will be most people ready to move on from your very expensive hardware, and over promised and under delivered software system. Ridiculous.

Homerun for sound & tech; but 2 partner strikeouts. I love this speaker’s sound quality, ease of use and partnership with Pandora. Two annoyances though: 1) When choosing to cast through Sonos a song already playing in the Pandora app, it automatically censors the lyrics. It’s impressive technology, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to opt for uncensored casting. Reviewing comments, it seems both companies are blaming each other for it. Couldn’t that option pop up right as you’re choosing to throw it out to Sonos? Not all of us have kids or customers within earshot. 2) Late last baseball season, I discovered I could stream audio of MLB games on Sonos through the partnership with MLB’s At Bat app. This year, I get a message saying Sonos isn’t partnering with MLB anymore. So, only 4 stars. I’d planned this season to buy speakers for more rooms to FEEL baseball games throughout the house, but without that option, I’m ok with just the one speaker for music & podcasts.

Best Multi Room Audio!. I’ve been a Sonos user for the past 13 years, this review is long overdue. My first piece of equipment was the BU250, it came with the ZP90, ZP120 and a controller, purchased December 05, setup was a breeze.... the preamp connected to my existing home theatre, when I’m not watching movies, I listen to music in my family room through my Sonos. The ZP120 played music on my patio. I loved it so much, I purchased another BU250 in 2006, the preamp connected to my music room using my Mcintosh and Bowers and Wilkins speakers.... mind you now, I still use my McIntosh C32 preamp for vinyls. The other ZP120 connected to my balcony. Now I’ve got 4pieces of Sonos equipment, what’s next??? You’ve guessed it... In 07 I purchased two more ZP120 and a Zone Bridge. I can rock the whole house or play in each individual room. Never had any problems or failure... excellent quality and performance over the years. Funny thing, as I conclude this survey... “Some Kind of Wonderful” is playing now. Wonderful product!

Fantastic When It Works Prooerly. Overall I love the Sonos wireless speaker system and app controller. Sound quality is very good. If you’re a person that buys or used to buy wired speakers to listen to your music you will not find Sonos to have that same quality, but Sonosis very good. My opinion is almost every size room needs at least a Sonos three if not a Sonos five. And by all means get a pair for each room unless the room is really small. The stereo separation and sound quality is so much better. What keeps me from giving a five out of five rating is there still are several bugs that occur weekly. Music will stop at random times, speakers will ungroup, and music will stop mid-song and start randomly sampling several songs before settling down and playing one all the way through. Despite these flaws, the app is easy to use, speakers are easy to add and controlling music is easy through the app.

Becomes more broken with each update. It’s honestly kind of a surprising to think that an app can become more bug-filled and non working with each improvement. Everytime theres an update my sonos devices forget the app, and I have to restart the process of setting up all over again. The set up system is terrible, it only works one out of twenty tries, and it seems like I spend more time setting up the speakers than I do listening to them. The app itself crashes pretty frequently, the UI is easy enough to understand if it actually works, and the “help & tips” section is completely pointless. I understand that there’s a new app to support the new devices, but I don’t want to buy new expensive speakers only to have the connection be this awful. In a world of easy-to-use Bluetooth and Aux cable, the novelty of being forced to download an app for the $400+ speakers to WORK has gotten quite old. Either make this app work properly, or stop updating please. edit: thank you for the update, you broke my entire sonos system again. It’ll no longer connect.

Sonos = music as it should be; update Dec 5, 2017. Plentiful, pristine, easy. Price might be a little on the high side but it's a nice, quality product and simply great engineering! Do your self a favor and get one if you enjoy music. UPDATE: as of Dec 5th, the hardware is solid but the software is starting to be buggy! Switching rooms is a trial in frustration. How many times do I need to repeat the selection process before its accepted?? It’s anyone’s guess but you bet it will take at least 3 times! Ugh!!! For the sake of our sanity, fix this and fix your development process and QA of your software!! Do this and I’ll move my rating back to five stars and continue to recommend Sonos to others but for now...no promises. And I’m holding on any other purchases of Sonos gear. With these kinds of problems I fear it’s an ugly sign that the best days are behind Sonos. Hope they prove me wrong!
