I really want to like this.... But the maneuverability of this game needs to be smoother. The swipes, no matter the speed setting, send the ball tumbling off the platform - and I'm playing on Easy. It's really frustrating, especially running on a 4th Gen Touch, where the graphics are crisp, clean and the music is synonymous with gameplay. It's a unique platformer with great potential no doubt; but for this to be five stars, it needs a major control update. (The tilt doesn't work at all, despite several attempts at re-calibrating. I find swiping works best when you hold your finger down). Please devs, fix this issue and you'll have a Top 5 app no doubt. Additionally, it would be super cool if the camera angle would change as the ball rolls along. Anyway, 3 stars for a great foundation !

Fun. It's a solidly fun, reasonably hard game for an agreeable $1.99, A decent number of levels for the price (27), nice graphics (which are enriched when switched to high resolution), and intuitive gameplay. The tilting option makes for difficult gameplay, and if I get particularly frustrated with a level, I can just switch to finger control (although it's still hard enough). Very entertaining use of the iPad's motion detection.

Controls are what make or break it. And I'm happy to say the controls are dead on perfect!! It seems you're able to use tilt controls for this as an option but who needs it?? Swiping on the screen is great and the ball moves both realistically and precisely. The iPad screen is a born mousepad. As a bonus, this game is a gorgeous looking almost romantic looking gem of a game. And I love the music too. Its a rare game that gets it all right.

Give it time. At first i didn't like this very much at all but after spending more time with it my opinion of it has changed. A solid app for .99 cents. Great graphics and addictive little sound effects move the game along nicely. The gameplay is best using touch controls which are the default controls. U can touch anywhere on the screen to control the ball so your view dosen't get obstructed. I prefer the bottom of the screen personally. People that rate it low I employ you to give it another chance as i did. If you end up liking it please rerate the game as it deserves better.

Thank you for fixing it. I’ve loved Gears ever since I got it back in 2012. However, not too long after I first beat it way back when, an update made a whole bunch of levels broken and unbeatable or even playable. I can’t thank you all enough for actually fixing this classic gem and restoring a part of my early tweens.

Rapidly loses its flavor. I'll admit that I enjoyed this game quite well for the first 15 minutes. After that, I found that I always end up turning the game off in anger. The only way I can enjoy this game is by turning the game difficulty to the easiest setting to remove the time limit. The time limit aspect of this game is a total buzz-kill. There's no audio cue or anything, you'll be enjoying yourself, thinking you're doing well on a stage, and then you just explode. I think the developers would have been better off reducing your points to -zero- once this time limit has expired, rather than halting the gameplay and the player's enjoyment so abruptly.

What could make it better.... This game is awsome, and i love it; However, it could be Better... If you were to have the option to remove the time limit, or have a free style setting with no time limit, then it would be 100% no questions asked my favorite app ever. The resson for my request is that the time limit is so short that i cant enjoy myself. Its either rush here, or rush there. I just cant enjoy myself that way.

It's good in small doses.. Visually the game is beautiful. However the game play isn't perfect and can be very frustrating. I played with the timer for several levels, but then had to turn it off because the levels became impossible to beat with it on. Overall I like the game, but sometimes they way you must maneuver the ball around seems impossible and can be discouraging. So I only play it in small doses, otherwise I might hurl my device.

Lovely, enjoyable but needs bug fixes. This is a beautiful, enjoyable game, which is why I bought it. It looks and plays great on my iTouch 4. However, I agree with those who've asked for the option to play untimed. I also have a problem with the game music skipping. I've reset my device and that doesn't fix it, so it must be a bug. I usually turn off game music. But this game has music I would really enjoy listening to as I play. It enhances the game experience. Fix this bug, add an untimed option, and add more levels and I would give this app 5 stars.

Good Game...but one noticeable error. I really like this game. It is fun and challenging. One issue that I've found is that the high scores shown at the beginning and end of worlds others that the first one, show the high scores of the corresponding level on the first world (i.e., worlds 2 & 3 always show the high score for world 1, and the world name appears wrong sometimes also). I never really know how well I've done compared to past efforts. Other than that, this game is great!

Disorienting at first. But five stars. This game can set you up for major stress. The learning curve is HUGE especially with tilt. My advice, turn the sensitivity and brightness up. And dang if you won't be repeating a portion of a level a thousand times (sometimes literally) until you move forward. I'm finally into the third 'age' if you will. But on the upside, once you start figuring out the physics engine, the ball control becomes a blast. That is until you die ten seconds later. Good luck on anything that goes "poing," I.e. anything with a springboard. That sh't is annoying and actually mentally exhausting. I give this five stars because it's probably the hardest video game I've ever played. And maybe that says I haven't played many games, but growing up with sega and Nintendo, dabbling on the PS and PS2, coming back to some gaming with an accelerometer? Hell yeah. If this game is really eating at your last nerve, try to stand when you play it, rocking your body around. Even my wife lets me play it when we're - never mind. Have fun and don't give up on gears.

Would be so much better if it wasn't a subscription. I love this game. I played it back in the "old days" and just remembered it out of the blue. I just wish I could buy the whole game ONE time, and not have to subscribe to GameClub. I don't intend to play other GameClub games, just Gears and I don't want to pay for games I don't think I'll play. Even if we could subscribe for this one game it would be better than having to buy ALL the games. Or something where you watch ads (maybe 2-3) to unlock a level which stays unlocked for a period of time, maybe a few hours. I would be fine with that. Sad, because it's such a great game, but I don't want to buy an auto-renewing subscription for one game any more than I would buy Netflix for one movie.

I delightedly spent DAYS playing this on my original iPad BUT.... ...it was bought, originally, as a one time purchase. The sale and subsequent “subscription revenue model” for game club are a deal breaker for me. Not because I object to subscribing, outright, but because of the sense of a broken promise. Once sold as an indefinite license, it should remain an indefinite license. I have a budget for subscriptions and I’m not spending that budget on anything that breaks a promise. Because ... why would I? The number one issue with subscription models is trust, and if the trust is already broken from the outset, that’s a problem. There are ways to rework this such that purchasers of the original game aren’t forced into the subscription. It’s implementable in the AppStore, and I’ve seen it work. This then constitutes an unforced error on Game Club’s part, having purchased it from the former developer.

Review Number 2. Ok you all that are having problems with this game. Huh??????? I still say this is a great game and the controls are just fine. I can't figure out why people are having so much trouble. Maybe the controls could use a tweak here or there but it is a playable game. RESET AND OR UPDATE YOUR DEVICE. Set the controls to it's lowest sensitivity. DON'T USE THE TILT CONTROLS. USE THE SWIPE. This is not Super Monkey Ball. Have a little patience take your time and don't rush through it. DEV'S MORE UPDATES PLEASE!!!!! ( and maybe a control tweak or 2.) Still a 5 star game.

Magma Level 9 glitched, no support. Gears was once an excellent game, but the developers unfortunately seem to have abandoned this app as they fail to keep up with iOS updates. Magma Caverns level 9 is impassible now as the graphics that contain tracks and solid surfaces will not load, rendering the level impassible as only as the starting platform and the magma kill zones. Thus, no further progression in the game is possible. I still give two stars since all preceding levels seem to work, which is roughly two-thirds of the game, but it is horribly frustrating that I'm stymied in the middle of the game where it worked on my older devices. I attempted to contact Crescent Moon Games via their website, but the only support that appears to be available depends on an "FAQ" section that is actually a horribly-spammed blog with thousands of posts dating back to January 2013. If anyone from CMG can read this, please fix Gears, it was such a good game! If you are looking to buy, be aware that if you encounter the same problem, you're only getting two-thirds of the game until and if the devs ever fix this.

Pretty good. I don't know why so many people are giving this such low ratings. It's a pretty fun game. I'm still on lvl 4 because I just got it but the graphics are awesome and surprisingly there is a storyline. Unlike everyone says, the tilt controls are fine!!! Haven't noticed and crashing, framerate or other glitchy problems. I think it'll last me a while

Extremely awesome game. This game is extremely well done. Can't recommend it enough. The controls are tuned perfectly, just love the swipe option versus tilt (wouldn't have bought if tilt were the only option). Music and graphics are great. Difficulty ramp-up is great, and thanks so much for the four difficulty levels. Also thanks for being one of the few who put in the variable graphics quality. My iPad 2 thanks you profoundly. :) Couple quick comments: there is a misspelling in the Normal difficulty level description. Also, it's too easy to accidentally skip the opening video, which I did (oops)!

Pretty nice.... Pros: Nice graphics, even with retina display. Love the music. Game is decently challenging, even more so in tilt mode. Cons: No landscape mode! I hate that the most. It does take a few seconds to load the next level, but I haven't had any full freezes or crashes, yet. Game could have more within itself to make it more challenging and entertaining. All in all I say this game is a winner. Definitely has the potential to make it to the top of the charts. But needs updates first.

Good Execution, Needs work. It's always nice to see a good ball roller be released for iDevices. For some reason or another, I cannot have enough of these games. This execution of the genre, while exceptional, has a few flaws I'd like to point out. First, the timer. Ball Rollers and timers don't go together all that well. I hate feeling pushed from behind when I play a game. I like it more when I can enjoy the game at a slow pace, taking my time to solve the puzzles and enjoy the environment. While there are players who love a challenge and for whom the timer is the perfect way to get one, I think you should limit it to offering a medal or something if you finish the level within the time limit and not force the timer upon everyone. Secondly, I think having the environment tilt as you tilt the device is one of the worst additions to this genre. Sure, it looks nice and is a graphical feat, however it is distracting and quite annoying after an half of hour or so of playing. I definitely think this shold be toggleable. Other than that, the game is a blast and very well designed. I definitely recommend it!

Great game!.. . At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but kept giving it a chance since I had nothing else to play since triple staring all levels in all versions of angry birds LOL  This game is extremely HARD! But I like that in a puzzle game. But if your A.D.D. Beware you may end wanting to throw your device at the wall  I highly recommend Gears to anyone that likes a mega challenge. Everyone giving it a low or bad rating did not spend enough time playing it. It doesn't crash on my 3Gs, has great sound and GFX, and a new must have APP 

Boring, weak controls, unoriginal. Though visually stunning, the gameplay of Gears becomes repetitive by the 3rd level. There have been many "roll ball through 3D maze" type games in the past, but Gears adds nothing to the genre. The touch controls - having to constantly hold your finger over the ball makes it almost impossible to see your ball and the surrounding obstacles. "Flicking" the ball will almost always result in it getting away from you. Overall, it's clear that this development studio has put more time and money into building a pretty game with fancy effects than focusing on actual gameplay.

Good.. Gears is a good game. It's solid controls and graphics match it's innovative and simplistic gameplay approach. However there's simply not much depth. Levels often feel lost in themselves and I tend to find myself clueless on where to go. There's just not enough guidance and there should be more variance in the worlds, there's only three and they're not that different. That said, the game is intriguing and manages to be addictive enough to keep you coming back, and for it's cheap price you'll probably find it worth it.

It is back!!! Excellent!. I am glad Corey Redlien and Josh Presseisen did whatever they did to be able to bring this game back to life. Excellent game. High replay value. Now, guys, move forward with the additional worlds you had planned so many years ago!

Bad controls. It's too bad because it is a good looking game. The controls are imprecise, taking all the fun out of it. The controls are inconsistent as well. Sometimes it seems that ball control is pretty good, and then it seems to take off out of control as if the game is already starting fragmentation. It is definitely no Dark Nebula and doesn't really compare to any upper end labyrinth game. If they can't get the ball control worked out, it's really not worth playing. Again, it's too bad. Maybe they can sort it out in an update. It has the potential to be one of the greats. (iPod 4g w/plenty of free space.)

Use this game to show off the graphics. Challenging, addicting and frustrating can be used to describe this "maze". Exactly what you need for a top game. This exceeds on every level. Not recommended for easily frustrated people who cannot handle a challenge. Good luck if you take the challenge and awesome job to the developers for thinking this one up. Beautiful graphics on the IPad2. Update 1/9/12: A year and a half later since I first reviewed this, this adventure maze has made it to my Hall of Fame. When showing someone what the iPad2 can do, this is one of the games I show them. Plenty of eyecandy and the music is quite perfect for this. Never, ever try the accelerometer with this game....no way. Hall of Fame Game = 5 stars easily.

THIS GAME REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS IN A GREAT WAY!. This game looks and plays very well and is a great breath of fresh air on the App Store. With titles like Sega’s Super Monkey Ball Series, and The two Dark Nebula games, this is a great genre on the App Store that could use more such hits. The gameplay in these types of ball-rolling games works well on the iDevices because it is usually tilt-based — or with the use of the Accelerometer and Gyroscope. You have a ball you want to roll by tilting your device in angles. You also try maneuvering the ball around obstacles and find the exit or end of the level to move on in the game. These types of games may seem repetitive but they are usually quite challenging, interactive and addicting (at least we think so). In addition to tilt controls, Gears will allow you to control the ball via swipes as well. I'm really looking forward to future update and would really love to see some multiplayer action added to the game to really make it even hotter!

Best of Apps out there. The good: This app has it all! Beautiful graphics, challenging game play and a variety of levels. The music is unobtrusive and haunting. The worlds become progressively more challenging and you have to figure out what the secret to completing the higher levels is. Wish there were more worlds! Totally worth the money. The bad: I'm giving it four stars because the controls need some work. The game is to difficult to use the tilt method and on higher levels where the terrain is uneven, you'll fall until you become familiar with the level. On the higher levels you can get totally lost and have to start over again. It can be very frustrating to go around in circles repeatedly. Pay close attention as a new world begins. You will see the entire path from end to beginning.

I LIKE IT. steering a ball with the touchscreen never has been so fun. the game's steampunk theme, as seen in the use of gears, pistons platforms and moving contraptions, are relevant to the physics gameplay. i like this game but my only gripe is that it seems short, three worlds only? also, the rolling ball with glowing center reminds me of metroid prime's ball morph Also, I like this game because i can see the possiblity of adding puzzle/adventure/rpg elements to the physics gameplay, whole environments that the ball could explore.

Awesome. Gears is a ball that you tilt or tap to go across gears which are turning making it difficult. When I bought it I think it was on sale. If you like moving games you will like this game. If you like stuff like I described above get it. If you have a spare dollar buy it or wait for it to come on sale again in my opinion it isn't worth 3.00 but it is a good game

Want the developers to see this.... This game oozes quality and is definitely worthy of your money. But I want to echo the comments of a few others. The developers need to create a mode where time is not a factor. Like others I want to be able to soak in the environment and enjoy a leisurely game. I don't want or need to be pushed and I really don't care about achievements. Let those of us that want to enjoy your creation without pressures. It I wanted a twitch game I would download a shooter. 5 stars will be given when this mode is enabled.

Not another timed game.... I'm leaving this app on my iPhone in hopes of an exceptional update. I find problems with the control of the ball, how the ball reacts to the environment (always rolls or bounces in a direction that defies physics), the freezes, crashes, bugs, and glitches. I love the graphics, the complexity of the mazes, and it surprisingly has a decent plot line. The biggest problem I have with this game is that infernal timer. Too many times have I gotten to the end of the level only to restart because I was 1/2 a second too late. I have found myself resorting to using shortcuts. (Something I'm not proud of) I actually managed to beat 4 levels in a row, each under 30 seconds just by flicking my finger across the screen and hoping for the best. That is what this game has been demoted to for me. I don't even try to navigate the maze... Takes to long. Please fix these issues. I know if you do you will have a top notch game, and five stars from me. ^_^

...And here's why. No one likes easy games, and no one likes hard ones either. (Personal opinion, but it quite true on certain levels.) This is way too hard for the people who like in between. I'm nöt saying the developers did a bad jöb with graphics and all, they are quite good, other than some major/minor glitches. Persönally, I'm nöt a huge fan of the sömber music and sömber graphics, but that is persönally my choice. Buy this game if you want a way too hard of challenge (yes this is a timed game) and are looking to get frustrated and finally throw you iDevice. If you are not a fan of that, please, save your pocketbook söme trouble and don't buy this. (If I could I would truthfully give the game 2 1/2 stars. Please, don't take this as rude, developers. It is a personal opinion, and am no way trying to be rude and unkind. Thank you for your time.)

fun but a rip off. this game is very fun but you must pay to go on and in the old tome you didint had to so i think they should take it off that but i still think is fun i have been playing this with my cousin since i was small and you dint had to pay so they should take the payment out and let be free so its more fun and better but i think that this agme is still fun

Wonderful Game. I had to rate this wonderful game 5 stars because it never crashes or is slow, graphics are absolutely beautiful, and the gameplay is extremely fun and addictive. I can honestly say that this game is the best on my iTouch. I also love how you don't need wifi, so I can play on the go and whenever I like. This game is hard, but not so hard that you give up and delete it. Believe me when I say this game is worth a million dollars! If I could rate it a zillion stars, trust me, I would!

Gears. This is one of the most entertaining, yet unforgiving roller games around. I wouldn't recommend jumping into the more difficult modes from the git-go, unless you're an extremely quick learner. Alas and alack, I'm not one of those fortunate folk. Thank God for the easy-level. Packed with polish and tons of visual appeal, the gameplay is intriguing and challenging. I decided to play the easy-level first to gain better command of the layouts and unique, swiped-based controls. I'm looking forward to ramping up to the more difficult, time-based challenges. Overall, this game is a great addition to a genre that could use a good shot in the arm. Definitely a "must buy" in my opinion.

iPod 2g. The controls need some work and with the 2g iTouch the app closes at random times. (but never when in the menu) I'm going to say that its just as good as the Dark Nebula series but its hard to compare. Hopefully in future updates the crash will be fixed and it will have better graphics This is a Metal ball not a bouncy ball so stop making it bounce off the gears!

Fun and Challenging. I love Gears. The visuals are great, and the controls are responsive. I think the best part about it though is the emphasis on touch based ball rolling, as opposed to tilt controls (although both control schemes are there). It works well for the game. The worst thing I can say about it is how hard it is to collect all the tokens in a level, but that is hardly a problem. It adds to the fun.

More frustrating than it should be.. The controls for the ball aren't that great and can be awful at times. This is not a problem in the early stages but as the games continues, you'll find that most of the game difficulty comes from the awful controls and not the obstacles. There ate two methods of controlling the ball but you can't switch between them inside the stage, only at the beginning. There are certain sections of the game that lend themselves to a change in controls and it's a shame we can't switch. The game starts out great, it looks great and it has a nice soundtrack do it's too bad the gameplay is hindered by the awful controls.

One of the best games!. I don't understand why people say that the controls are bad, swipping is really easy, i don't see any better way to control the ball. Another way could be to tilt it, but that would be just like super monkey ball, and the controls are SO bad for that app, i can't ever control anything. Get super monkey ball yourself, and you'll see that gears chose the better controls. And the graphics are just amazing, the music fits perfectly. I am loving this game. The only bad thing about it is that their arent enough worlds, i hope their will be an update soon.

Disappointed. Perhaps it is my utter love for last weeks 'Game Of The Week' that gave me unrealistic expectations for this one. I thought it would be beautiful environments, immersive gameplay and the like. Instead it was a Monkeyball clone that is just as impossible to play. I'm not a fan of ball-rollers, although I admit I am a huge fan of Dark Nebula. But something about this game, whether it's the impossible and sensitive tilt controls or the boring neverchanging environments, or the fact that there's a timer..or that you have to rotate the entire device in order to get around..it's all of that. And the ridiculous intro. This game is definitely not what it's all hyped up to be. I realize this is exactly what was said about Swords & Sworcery, to which I disagreed completely with the hate, and I'm sure there are buttloads of people that love this game to death..but I feel like I completely wasted my time and money.

THIS GAME BROUGHT BACK MY MEMORIES. When I was into marble runs back then this game was related to what I had in mind I am glad this game is compatible to date But I have one question can you add an owl on rivers of magma Level 9 when I played this back then there were lots of owls but now I only found one on rivers of magma Level 8 but no other levels But awesome game though

Do not want a subscription model. Deleting from my phone now that a forced subscription model is enabled and an account required to play No thanks. I only buy games without this and to have it forced after the fact is a beach of trust.

Amazing game. This was a great game many years ago. Now they've updated it for the latest devices and the graphics look sharper than ever. Great tilt-based gameplay. Like labyrinth but much more epic graphics! I hope they give people an option to buy this game for a larger than subscription one-time fee because it seems weird for people to only be able to own it while subscribed.

Laughable (At Best). Don't let the flashy graphics fool you: Gears is a waste of your money, when it comes right down to it. Featuring a high crash rate and a very poor control system (tilt mode lacks the sensitivity and response time that a tilt mode demands and swipe mode is clunky and nowhere near fine-tuned enough to warrant its inclusion). Add to this the fact that the game lacks achievements and Gears is exposed as a poor façade for an iPod game that is by no means worth even the meager dollar it costs to purchase it. If you manage to run the game long enough to play a level or two, you'll soon see what I mean. A word to Crescent Moon: Perhaps consider a new line of work? Developing games clearly doesn't appear to be your thing.

Ever so often I remember this game. It's not bad. But the subscription pretty much made this game worse instantly.

Scam. When you download it, it redirects you to pay a huge fee offsite to play it to something called GamesClub. This is against Apple TOS, and it’s a scam. Reported.

Frustrating. Looks great, plays badly. The level designs feel sloppy, as if someone who doesn't actually play games sketched the levels on a napkin, before handing them off to the 3D artists. I can almost hear this person's enthusiasm for the project: "A treacherous drop, onto a tiny rail?? Ooh, that will make a good challenge!! Gamers LOVE that sort of thing." One level in particular (Magma #8) hovers above a giant toilet bowl filled with lava. You will undoubtedly slip and fall into the toilet, dozens of times, due to the bouncy physics, skittish controls, unresponsive boost pads, and tiny platforms that you must traverse. After you slip, you will bounce helplessly for many seconds, before finally, mercifully colliding with the deadly lava. Or, you might get stuck on the way down, lodged on some crevice or behind a gear, which happened to me more than a few times. By default, you have a time limit. This feels acceptable on the simplest levels. Before long, the timer becomes a meaningless torturer, demanding the impossible, and robbing you of fun. Unless you invest days of your life in this game, will never beat the toilet bowl level within the time limit. It's just ridiculous. Thankfully, you can switch to "easy" mode, and disable the timer.

Hated it, but now loving it!. I originally bought this game to play on my 4th generation iPod Touch and while the visuals were great on the retina display, the game just played awful and just lacked the visual pop like Infinity Blade did a while back. I had a first generation iPad which I loved as I worked very hard to get (the 64GB model) and the experience was even worse unless I dropped the detail to rock bottom and reminded me much of playing a game on a N64. Long story short, I managed to pick up a 64GB iPad 2 for less than the cost of a new low end model and this was a game transformed. Great visuals and the gameplay was fluid. Now, after shelving this game for a long time, I'm playing once again on my new/used iPad 2 (still under warranty!) and loving the enhanced visuals from this tablet. With the iPad 3, I'm sure this game would fly!

Great. Beautiful game. Great idea. Needs a bit of patience on the last level to find the way around, but lovely finish. Potential for more levels? Update please ........ Great game. Graphics are impressive, sometimes a bit confusing with some slopes that are hard to see. Nearly impossible to play on the tilt setting, but works fine with swipe. Even my 4 1/2yo son manages quite well and is loving it. Easily 5 stars, but needs more levels, please!! Hopefully there will be future updates with more levels.

Ok just.. Still skips an jumps. Really unplayable. I give yas one more update to fix eventhough dis update took forever. Nearly ready to delete.

yawn. arbitrary time limits are a crutch for game developers who have a deficit of good ideas. take a look at Dark Nebula or Enigmo - time bonus=good, time limit=bad... especially when you are in the funnel when the time runs out. anything which makes a game just stop mid-stream, or causes you to constantly hit the restart option is just stupid game design. stupid, lazy game design from people who have nothing new or original to bring to gaming. it detracts from the enjoyment of the beautiful environments. it breaks the flow... a game like this should cause you to be lost in the fantastic world, and this game just keeps knocking you on the head. these guys had a recipie for a perfect cake, and then they added gravel to the mix.

The poor mans super monkey ball. You just move a ball on moving gears Here i'm thinking that you move the gears for the ball but no, that would require too much thinking. It's just a simple game for simple people

Play on easy. Do yourself a favor and play on easy, otherwise the games controls will frustrate you. Without the time limit, the game is more relaxing and more enjoyable.

Absolutely incredible. Pretty much what the title says. Amazing game, I've had no glitches or anything of that sort, something which the better known games can't seem to match. deserves to be much more well known than it is. Worth downloading. Definitely.

Do not buy this game. It doesn't work.. You can get through to level 9 of the first world, then the last stage becomes impassable. There is something wrong with the gameplay. Hundreds of people have complained and contacted the developer but got no response. They have abandoned their app. Don't waste your money.

Good but issue. This game is awesome but please please please fix rivers of magma level 9 as it is nearly impossible to do but looks like it would be a really awesome level! Other than that great game and I have faith that one day you will fix this 👍

Enjoyable and challenging!. I really like this game, however I find the tilt control a little too hard to master. Having said that by default control is using swiping, tilt control is optional and rewards you with more points. Great game :)

Not like last time. I got this game when it was a special free offer.. Played it and deleted it to save space. I got it again.. And I played up to either level 8 or 9 on rivers of magma and everything apart from spawn was either not there and you just fall or transparent. Horrible

What a fantastic game. Excellent, and at such a reasonable price, who can fault it? It is difficult, challenging and highly addictive. I am up to level nine of the third environment, and I am not sure how many more levels in this game there are, but I just cannot put it down. I use my finger and the pogo pointer to play this. Good ambient music which varies in each environment. Kudos to the developers.

Fun, but glitchy…. On: iPad mini with retina display Problems: Easy to flick over barriers and jump on to platforms lower than yourself, therefor skipping challenges and sections of levels. The world in {Rivers of magma} world nine is unplayable and is a GAME-BREAKING bug. Summery: Fun but needs work.

Great but ……. This will be up there with Angry Birds very soon but …… the finger control of the gear wheel is no where near accurate enough! It seems to lag badly and the wheel appears to be playing catchup all the time. Fix this Mr. Developer and you can pretty well name your price for this unique and potentially brilliant game 

Challenging, unique game!. Just finished the game, took quite a fair bit of time compared to many other games on iPad. Having played it through on tilt mode (I would highly recommend skipping the swipe mode altogether, because the tilt mode offers a greater challenge and more fun), I can honestly say it feels like an achievement to get through. Be warned, this game requires plenty of patience!

Great value for the price.. Personally, (and I'm not a game developer) I think the game could be improved by increasing the distance between ball and camera a bit in some parts of the game, and maybe in future versions make the world a bit more interactive and including some physics/puzzle aspects to keep it fresh. I should note that at point of writing the review, I have not completed the game.

Amazingly delightful. This is an unusually well crafted game, with a classic Marble Madness type gameplay that I've rather missed. Running on 16gb classic iPad with no issues (I do completely reset mine every so often). Hats off to the developers.

Geartastic!. I love this company's games. I'm playing my first time around with the swipe controls, as I found my control with the tilt function to be not as good (user issue - not the developer's). Once I know the levels, I'll revisit the gyro function. If you liked Dark Nebula 1&2, chances are you'll like this game.

Great Game For the Price!. Haven't made to the infamous glitchy lava world that many have been whining about, but it's been a fun ride so far. I have an iPad 2 and the game hasn't given me any issues to date. I most definitely recommend it for those who love marble physic games and steampunk atmosphere.

Please Fix the Glitch!. We love this game! My two kids and I have played it for a long time. It is really fun and challenging. The kind of game you will come back to and play again and again. Now it has stopped working and glitches on the last level of the lava area.

Awesome and challenging app. I've been playing this game a few times. I get really frustrated when it takes more time to complete a level. However, that's just the challenge and GREAT graphics. I looked up that other game someone claimed was better, something 3D, and it looks awful. Challenging and engaging app!

Annoyingly glitchy. The graphics and style of thing game are amazing but it is so difficult to play as it just seems to burst you off of every corner. This is ok when it happens once or twice but it doesn't it happens on almost every corner or cliff. If this was fixed this could easily be one of the best games on the app store but in my eyes it has ended up as one of the most frustrating.

Fun. Gears is challenging, but not so ridiculously hard that it's frustrating like other games of this kind. What sets it apart is the amazing graphics and deep gameplay that makes you want to continue not pull your hair out in anger. Glad I finally picked it up thanks to the price drop.

Yet another great game on the iPad. Hard to game on the console when there are games of this quality on the iPad. My friends who don't have an iPad don't understand how cool a game like this can be. reminiscent of Marble Madness--maybe better!. This game has stunning graphics with smooth, sensible movement through a 3D environment. Stunning images and responsive to motions, this game is one of the finest for the iPad. Excellent audio as well. It reminds me of the old Marble Madness arcade (and Amiga) game that was really fun, but this game is probably better given the high quality, artistically rich graphics and multiple worlds.

Needs update,though. . I would have given this 5 stars except for.....if you hit just simply one button twice, or accidentally hit two worlds at the same time it crashes and you have to delete it then get it back again and it restarts all your levels. Otherwise its one of the best game I have ever played.

Hampered by poor controls. I really wanted this game to have the precision tilt controls that the Dark Nebula series has. Sadly I could not get comfortable with either control scheme. The touch and swipe scheme does work a lot better that the tilt which doesn't seem to be responsive enough for the tight levels.

Victory. This is a great game decided to buy it and I don't regret it, it could be for Casual gamers but definitely welcomed to Hardcore gamers, it's tough and makes u want to give up but it's also addictive, I recommend the game it's really well made and tilt control option is welcomed but Swipe works amazingly good.

Not as good as everybody says. This game is ok but it was made for swiping the ball instead of tilting it which doesn't feel very natural and the tilting option is nit fluid or smooth at all like labyrinth or dark nebula. Crashed!. How about an update? Quick! Before I have to delete it from my iPad because it has crashed and won't start up again. I really don't want to lose all the levels I've completed. I think this game is great, and using my finger to move the ball is very easy. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because I can't play it right now since it is stuck.

Great game. This game had performance issues and was a bit too difficult before so I gave it a 3, but those issues seem to have been fixed in an update.

Pretty fun. This is not the greatest app I have ever played in my life but it is kinda fun. It is just like super money ball but the courses aren't as fun though. They are weird and have gears and lava. Not colorful paths with a glowing swirl of gold powder at the end. So it essentially makes it a tie because gears looks better but super monkey ball has the better experience.

Gears level 3-7. I can't figure which way to go. I've been stuck on this level for a week. Other than my level problem this game is awesome. Defiantly worth the money!

Not so sure....mabey well,I dont know. Not so smooth. When first played gears on the first world:The brass magnerie it was like 100 Bougatis racing at the same time,and when I reached world 2:the magma rivers I was stuck on level 7/9 like a stupid slimy NON gear. Its pretty confusing, but there is'nt an other explanation so your supposed to get that its bad and challenging so I guess you COULD buy this this IF your good at not getting lost, and the other issue is the stupid controls.

Great game. This review is for both the iPod version and the iPad version. I love ball rolling games and this one is pretty fun. The settings look great and i love gears so this works for me. I found it on genius so I thought they must know what apps id like so I bought it. It works perfectly fine on ipod but on ipad, some of the textures turn to black. Update to fix this and it will be as golden as the ball you play as :D

Glitch?. Well nice graphics, good game, god awful hard if you're trying to get a trophy score. With that in mind, on the second level I get one score for a bronze, then a better for a silver, and when I got a better one in attempt for gold, it gives me a bronze trophy instead. Bronze after silver? I had a silver at 5,500 points, 2nd lvl, then got 5,680 and got a bronze.. What.. The.. Hell?

Incredible. This is one of those "I can't believe I'm playing this on my iDevice" games.. Gorgeous graphics, perfect controls. I was hesitant to buy at first because I assumed it was a "tilt the ball" game- good thing I read the description, because the swipe controls are perfect and feel completely natural. You would be a fool not to pick this one up...

Great game, but..... I'm having trouble with the calibration. I'd like to be able to use the tilt mode while laying down, and it really doesn't work well for that. Not sure it's a game issue or constraints on the iPad 1. Past that, this game is A+++.

.... This game is really great. But after going through many levels, I got agitated with not knowing where i'm supposed to go. This game is like a giant maze, and you have no idea where you are going half the time. The concept of this games phenomenal, but there needs to be a map or something to show you where you're supposed to go. I get sick of going round and round in circles trying to find the end of a level.

Has potential but could me better.. 1) the graphics are fantastic except or one problem where the timer for each level appears to be half off the screen. I can still see the time but it is very annoying. 2) the maneuverability definitely needs improvement. Swiping and tilting both cause the ball to either not move or fly off the stage. 3) not sure if this last point is the program or just my 3rd gen touch, but every time I hit or try to get to level 4, my game crashes. The three levels before it work perfectly smoothly. Please update, developers.

Good but. Pretty good graphics & game play but the tilt calibration doesn't work properly - if you hold it vertically the ball will just shoot forward no matter how many times you redo the calibration - other games don't have this issue - forces you to play with touch instead of tilt if you're holding it any way but facing up.

Fun game, won't work. Really love this game but I'm having the same problem as others with rivers of magma level 9. When you select it to play it lists it as being part of brass menagerie (yet it is a different level than brass menagerie level 9) and it is completely unplayable, nowhere for the ball to go that isn't magma. Cannot complete this level and therefore cannot go any further in the game, feeling like I was ripped off.

Very good game!!. I usually do not like the rolling ball type of games as they usually involve only tilt control. However this one allows touch as well and for the price I was willing to give it a chance. It exceeds my expectations!! Graphics and music are top notch and controls are very smooth. Overall give this game a chance!!

Infuriating. This game is miserable right now. It is in desperate need of an update. It has crashed on me multiple times, and in many different ways, and the over developed graphics make the visuals jumpy and almost impossible to play. I even chose the option for visuals suited for older iPhone models and it still doesn't run smoothly. This game could be cool, but when the levels are impossible because of glitchy gameplay, it's very frustrating. I want my money back or an extensive update ASAP.

Gears has made it into my top 10 favorite iOS games!. The graphics are sharp and colorful! The home screen icon looks awesome! The music is fantastic! The mechanics of the game are polished and very smooth! I look forward to more future updates!

Touch controls work well, exciting level design. I'm a skilled super monkey ball player. I was surprised how well the touch drag steering controls work! The graphics are great on iPad 2. The level designs are all fun but they take a dramatic swing in terms of complexity and challenge about halfway through the 2nd of the 3 worlds "magma river". Suddenly they are HUGE and your ball is making giant leaps and crossing very narrow pathways high in the air. All in all easily worth the price if you enjoy the challenge of a precision ball roller like this.

Like a psychedelic roller coaster ride full of twists...and YOU'RE in control!!!. Lots of excitement and action. With every new level comes a new, unexpected path to find on this journey of fun. This app even allows you to become extremely creative and make moves never thought possible. Very impressive!!!

Hmmm. Im back and forth on it. I love the idea of it but bad performance. Improvements: multiplayer, more levels, fix tilt control, a freeplay mode with no time limit, maybe some power ups that would be cool, come on reviewers want morw from it not the only one. Good but. Nice graphics fun game but controls kill a lot of the fun. Tilt is just terrible and finger move is not much better move a little and does nothing move a little harder and to fast flys of edge and if your near the edge impossible to recover even with fast finger movement.3 stars because it was free. Trying to copy dark nebula. But nowhere as good as dark nebula one or two. Terrible controls. Could be great with update.

I love the game but.... I have been a big fan of this game since I was a freshman in high school. I graduated and now I'm in college. The developers totally forgot about the game. 😞 please make new levels if you guys want to make gears 2 I would buy the app again. Utzums36. Truly love this. Beautiful graphics, and 3d. I'm 75 and my grandson caught on to the way the game is played. He's 12 and loves it. I got the hang of it watching him play after I downloaded It onto my iPad 1. The reviews sold me to Gears after I read all the reviews. All were true.

Save your money. this is a timed game which right off the bat is not my kind of game, I bought it because of the preview and thought this is going to be cool to play and examine the background and environment but with a timer you have to fly through it as fast as you can and unable to enjoy the graphics.

FIX THE CRASHES.. Personally, I think this game is pretty good. Its music is beautiful, it has pretty graphics, and the controls are very sensitive. However, there is a problem that prevents me from fully enjoying this game. Thats right: The crashes. This game has so many crashes that its not even funny. I bought Gears because I heard great things about it, please don't make me think that it all was a lie.

There are similar games in the app store that roll a ball -- this one has outstanding graphics and is the best looking, for sure. But they didn't stop working when the graphics were done. The level design is outstanding, sound and music draw you in and the controls are awesome (the swipe mode in particular). Highly recommended for kids and grown-ups too!

MAKE IT WORK. It's a great beautiful, enjoyable game. But if you really want to pull this off make it work. Sometimes it's worth all the lag and sometimes it's not. I know you will just day the RAM isn't high enough but that is a bunch of crap. You sold this game for all devices including my mc model iPod, it should work just as well on every devise.

Absolutely outstanding!!!!!!!. One of the best games ever. And I am somewhat of a gamer. Great graphics. I play it on my IPad 3rd generation on swipe mode and on my iPhone 3GS with tilt mode and it is amazing on both devices. Try it first on swipe mode and then do tilt as a greater challenge.

NOT READY. Virtually unplayable on my iPhone 3G: - Controls ludicrously inconsistent; ball randomly shoots off the maze even on lowest sensitivity using finger controls. - Framerate very inconsistent; pauses of up to a second once again cause ball to shoot off the maze. - Ramps and objects at different heights are difficult to see/judge from overhead perspective. - Challenges require a level of control that you just don't have. - Doesn't load next level, forcing me to exit to menu and restart game to continue. - In it's current state, it is FRUSTRATING, NOT FUN. That said, it has potential if the devs are willing to put in the time to fix it. Sound/music is decent, though the graphics are a bit dated (3D with flat texture mapping, low detail). Gameplay is pretty standard puzzle game fare -ramps, spinning gears, conveyors etc., but it could be a briefly entertaining diversion if fixed.

Awesome. It rocks! It takes thinking but still. It was definitely worth the money. After I passed the ninth level I thought it was over but then I found out that there is so many levels for hours of fun!!!!

Great game. This game had a lasting fun factor that utilizes the iPhone/iPad platform. The 3D graphics are pretty good but the levels site of the levels seem to get stale after awhile. The maps are well thought out for challenges and each new level seems to bring in a new challenge. All around a great game and worth the money.

Fun but... It says only use high graphics with the latest devices. I have an iPhone 4 so it should easily work smoothly with the A4 chip and everything right? WRONG I either get good graphics and lag or medium graphics and no lag c'mon! Also there's a glitch where the controls randomly go crazy and the slightest move is picked up as a really huge swype. Other than that great game!
