Great game, well worth the money.. It definitely has the polish you would expect from the makers of Canabalt. Lots of fun, if a little difficult. I just wish I could figure out how to unlock the 8-bit mode.

NO INSTRUCTIONS!. It amazes me how these guys can create these "games" while continuing to perpetuate exactly the same errors and absurd omissions as countless airheads before them. Guess what, dev? Full telepathy is still 18-20 months away (although for you, it's probably many millennia away yet). So we can't read your arrogant mind yet. So please come back down and install all of the basics that you "forgot".

Addicting + Challenging. This game is super addicting AND very challenging ! I was already hooked playing the flash version that I couldn't help but to buy this game. It is equipped with online high scoring for comparison (local + world [daily, weekly, monthly and all time]). What more could you ask for ? ^^d

Good Stuff.. Took me a little while to get the hang of it (no pun intended), but now it's pretty addicting. The music is excellent, as expected, and this makes a good companion to Canabalt.

Not as good as the original. I am a huge fan of AdamAtomic, but this game is missing the raw speed and fun of the original flash version. Still a fun game, but not spectacular.

Love it. My cousin illustrated it and so my dad had me try it out and it's awesome.p.s my cousin also made cannibalt that's addicting

App Crashes. I used to keep on playing this game. For me, its really fun and challenging just like Canabalt. Now it keeps on crashing for me. I would really like to give it five stars but it doesn't work. This game needs an UPDATE. Please make an update for this.

Won't even load. Just spent $3 for this app, and it won't even turn on! At least warn someone about this, because now we have to o through the hassle of getting it reversed on the account. Avoid, at least until they decide to fix it.

Pretty good. Pretty good gameplay but not great. The music on the other hand IS great. Not really worth $3 compared to other better cheaper apps out there. I have yet to ever experience a crash though. Starts right up, plays fine, no crashes (on iOS 4.1, iPod touch 3rd gen)

HD?!. HD?! Really?! Doesn't support iPhone 5/5s screens just like canabalt one of my fav games, update your apps!!

Better than Canabalt. The gameplay is much more addicting but slightly more complicated. I like the physics in Classic mode a bit better, so it would be nice if HD mode felt the same. Last but definitely not least, the music is absolutely amazing (especially with headphones) and there's quite a few unlockable tracks. My highscores is 1500 but I'm pretty sure there are still some tracks I haven't made it to yet. Definitely worth 3 bucks, but glad I got it free.

Disapointing. Regret having to pay $ for it. Gameplay is near impossible and quite boring.

Very difficult. This game is just plain difficult. On occasion, I hate it and I'm not sure if it's fun or not. But for some reason I can't stop playing it.

A Challenge. Very cool see how far you can make it game. It also has 2 game types classic or regular. Classic is retro with old school graphics and just mines. The new one is with updated graphics and more to grapple then mines. I loved it and I would recommend it.

Well worth it. This game is as fun to look at as it is to play. Definitely well worth the cost.

Big Disappointment. This game looks nice, but lacks content. There are no directions or demos. There is only one goal, i.e., to go a little higher. The physics are interesting for a couple minutes. This game would be bad for FREE, and inexcusable at 2.99. Don't waste your time or money.

A Perfect Fit. The original, Flash-version, of Gravity Hook was a slice of awesome -- the same game played with touch controls is more like an entire awesome pie.

That's all?. It's too hard. I mean, if you make one mistake you die. Also, the concept is there but there should be more controls or something.

Hardcore climber.. For those seeking a bit more than tilting and bouncing, your game has arrived. Utilize perfect timing and manage physics to climb as far as you can without being overcome by gravity. The challenge lies in unfixed and exploding platforms that you'll have to detach from at the last moment. This is risk/reward gaming at it's finest, and challenging like you wouldn't believe. Not for the casual gamer, yet worth every penny for the hardcore. Note: if you prefer the original PC physics, tap "Play Classic" at the bottom of the title screen.

The Type of People. Look down a few reviews and you'll see one written by Kanmara. Read it carefully. If he strikes you as an idiot, then you're the type of person who will enjoy playing Gravity Hook.

So Addicted!!. The flash version (which is almost the same just not portable and HD and just super awesomer!!!) was good. Honestly, I think they should warn people about buying this app though. This app, this app, this app is my drug!!!. Yes its true. I'm so addicted I am playing while I review it!! I swear this is the best app so far on my iPod and I can guarantee it will be the best on yours. My love, My love, My love is this app!!! Ke$ha vs. Gravity Hook?? (Gravity Hook wins!!!)

A treat for old school gamers!. 16 bit era graphics, with even more pixely goodness in the unlockable Classic mode. A killer old school soundtrack, and gameplay that is simple to pick up, but frustratingly difficult to master. Gravity Hook is a treat for anybody who remembers gaming way back when graphics were left to your imagination and you regularly threw your controller against the wall. A must buy for true gamers.

Confused. Anyone else having a problem with randomly having your screen jump to an area with some places to latch on to, but no player anywhere to be found, and no way to move past that screen or return to your previous screen? Im having games get stuck there over and over. It's happening at different heights for no reason I can figure out. Would be a five star game if I had a clue why this was happening. Is it a bug? I have to turn my iPhone off just to get a new game to play.

Classic mode stays locked. I've unlocked classic mode about a dozen times but it cannot be accessed. I'll happily update my rating when this is fixed though! UPDATE: As of yesterday 8/11 Gravity Hook now correctly records high scores and shows classic mode unlocked. I'm very happy about this and hope it's the case for other players! It's gone from a 2 star game to 5 in my opinion.

Good enough, needs difficulty settings. This is a great game. It's simple and fun. The only problem is that it's almost too hard. It needs difficulty setting. Great work guys.

Excellent, one of the best iPhone games. Played the original flash version to death. The played the HD flash version to death while waiting and waiting for the iPhone release. Well worth the wait. Amazing game, plays beautifully, super satisfying rhythm. Unlocked the Classic mode on my first run. Very happy that this mode was included as I still have a slight preference for the frantic speed of the original. High production values all around, get this game.

"Up to par--which is saying a lot!". Exactly the quality you would expect from Semi Secret Software. It is completely up to par--which is saying a lot! Just as beautifully simple as Wurdle and just as addicting and fun as Canabalt. The music is equally awesome as Canabalt's as well. Though it's free on your computer, this game is worth much more than 2.99 on your device. Such a fan of this developer. I will buy anything they release.

Not Worth $3. It's really hard and frustrating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's fun and addicting. I found myself playing this for hours without getting bored. The controls and object of the game are simple. Sadly, this is not worth the price. An app like this should cost closer to 0.99.

Sorely in need of upgrades. I love this game. It's pretty addicting, but with any addiction if there is a behavior that extinguishes it, it will slowly lose its affect. Right now, I'm averaging 330m - not bad, but I want to go higher. If there were upgrades strewn across the playing area, this will not only reward achievement and continue to sustain the addictive nature of the game, but it will also render the game perpetually replayable. I have plenty of iPad games, but only play a select few because I find that the gameplay becomes repetitive and/or impossible to beat without upgrades of some sort. Multiplayer mode would be great as well but let's take care of single player first. Thanks!

Too little. Not worth $3 for one level of gameplay. Yes it is challenging, but that is the only thing that differentiates it from the flash based internet game that launches cats. It gets boring quickly.

Great. Bit Costly.. I'd agree with the other reviews on some level: Hook Champ and Super Quick Hook, better concept and cheaper or the same price. This is a harder and more frustrating app but plays nice and is simple. Canabalt is much better. Can't recommend it but if you do buy it I don't blame you. It's pretty doggone good. Needs an update because it crashes whenever you Truro open it without headphones in. You can put the headphones in, open the app, and then tale the headphones out to play it without headphones. Not a good thing for an app that isn't awesome to begin with to have such a dumb problem...

Fantastic. I was hesitant to pick up this game because of the amount of one star reviews and I was HORRIBLY WRONG. Terrific game and I should not have doubted the studio that produced Canabalt. Challenging and fun with great presentation. Easily worth the price tag.

Wat do?. Hhmm. My guy lines up his laser, shoots the hook, the chain shoots up and the hooks catches on. Then he just stands there, looking at me. Uhm, maybe I'm missing something? But since there is no indication of what to do, I don't know what to do.

The Thinking Man's Canabalt. I've read some complaints about a lack of content, but to me that's a bit like complaining about the lack of content in Chess. You should buy Gravity Hook because it's perfectly balanced. The lack of variety encourages you to focus on the task at hand, namely not sucking at Gravity Hook. By balanced I mean that the game oscilates between slow and fast, thought and reflex, at a perfect pitch. My one complaint? Though the game is simple, I think a tutorial would really help.

64-bit (iOS11) support please!!. I'd love to be able to play this on the latest iOS version (11). It looks like it's currently missing 64-bit support

Elegant. Just like Canabalt, this is simple, creative, unique, and really ****ing difficult. I hope these guys keep making games.

Suxzz. Boring as... What's the point?

A fix for the crashing. Try plugging in your headphones. My version no longer crashes when started with headphones in the jack. I can then take them out if I want to hear the sounds from the speaker. Weird, but it worked for me.

Not Great.. I played it online before the HD version was ever announced and I thought it was great. Now, the pacing is all off and the hook is way too sluggish — especially compared to the original version. And I'm not a huge fan if the red mines, either. They make the slow game hard, but a faster game without them would do just as well.

I guess it's my fault. Can't believe I paid money for this. I never buy an app without playing the lite version first. This one just looked like fun... Don't be fooled! There are no instructions, no demos, no nothing to get you started. So you are frustrated from the beginning. Once you figure out what you supposed to be doing, you realize that it's more frustrating than fun. Huge disappointment.

So much potential. Great idea but far off of release. This game needs instructions, achievements, and a purpose except climbing just to have to start again. Giving a 2 because needs more development.

Good start. Seems like it can be fun, but as is sits right now, it can be hard to play. Sound keeps skipping and slight visual lag and control is not as spot on as it needs to be as a result. I like it, but it needs to be patched.

Awesome. Finally free!! I've been wanting this game for so long!! The gameplay is just what I expected! Love the graphics too, very crisp and clean on my iPhone 4! The only thing missing are Game Center Achievements!!

Great. Semi-Secret is one of those developers that churn out a diverse selection of QUALITY iDevice games. Canabalt was an App Store sensation and Gravity Hook doesn't fall far behind. I love the main character and personally think he looks amazing. And although you can find many games with this concept; launching and attaching grappling hook to explosive nodes and mines in order to pull yourself higher and higher to acheive a high score while also avoiding direct contact with these mines; I can confidently recomend Gravity Hook as the greatest one of these games on the market. Semi-Secret has also included an older version of Gravity Hook in this app, so it offers a duel challenge with two seperate high score lists. I do think it's bit overpriced, but if you're looking for something addictive to play in your free time and also willing to spend the three dollars, I say give Gravity Hook a go, :)

Brilliantly fun, but buggy. This is crazy fun and a perfect game for touch-screen devices... but it's buggy. My highscores and save data are randomly appearing and disappearing -- this is especially annoying when I get a highscore and find out that my profile just disappeared. The game likes to crash itself too, mostly on menus and after you finish a game. Fix it up and it's a five-star game. :3

Needs tutorial. It's fun if you can figure out how it works, please put in some kind of instructions

It's ok... I got this game because I really like Canbalt, but it doesn't seem as easy to just pick up an play... Its a little frustrating at times. It's an ok game, but nothing special I noticed a glitch also. If I accidentally bump the twitter score submission button on the bottom left of the screen and try to cancel it a keyboard pops up that I can't close. I then have to exit the game and relaunch it.

Canabalt x (Super Metroid + Doodle Jump) = Easy 5 Stars. Canabalt was a serviceable port of a simple concept with great execution, but there didn't ever seem to be anything really compelling about bringing it to iOS - save for the absolute bare minimum of "it's now on a mobile device so you can play it whenever you want" By sharp contrast, I knew without hesitation after about two-and-a-half tries of the Flash+mouse version of Gravity Hook that removing that UI disconnect would be awesome - so although the price does include what I assume to be an IP tax that is typical of ported titles, I am very pleased to report that the Semi Secret style of simple, addictive gameplay with gorgeous old-school presentation has been significantly amped up by its translation to a touch interface. (If it's not too late, dear reader, may I be so bold as to suggest justifying the price premium by skipping Doodle Jump for this - unless your target audience is too young to actually grasp the arguments presented in my review) Pulling, swinging and flinging your way to uh... "freedom"... just FEELS really great - and that is what iOS is all about!

Its ok. I can't flow like in Canabalt. The screen doesn't show far enough ahead, the robot is slightly too weighty, and the change in velocity too abrupt.

Instantly Hooked. A very different beast to Canabalt, Gravity Hook HD is all about verticality. The controls are precise and there's definitely a learning curve to master. Initially I was cursing at the seemingly impossible placement of the red mines, but as your skills improve, they become just another obstacle to swing by. There's a real sense of weight to your character too, ensuring that momentum must be carefully considered as you propel yourself ever upwards. My only gripe is that the amazing soundtrack is tarnished by an obvious stutter at every loop point. It's really noticeable and detracts from the other wise faultless presentation. Gravity Hook HD is an excellent purchase, and one which will definitely stand the test of time on my iPhone.

Addictive. But it needs a option menu. It needs instructions. And what the hell is classic mode?

flinging. you need to have more cooler things to fling on and the grapple needs to be easier to fling on a ball and power ups other wise very good game

Fun Arcade. Very nice and simple game. Although I do wish that you weren't so heavy. It's near impossible to manuver around obsticles so it boils down to getting lucky with the random placement. I also think that it's just $1 too expensive. Yes Adam I do know of your nice long rant about the price for Canabalt but this game just isn't as good as canabalt was. I think that canabalt was nicer to look at which justifies the price for me. Oh yea and the music is great as always. Why Danny B have you not released an album yet?

Impossibly hard. This game starts out really fun, but gets impossibly hard really fast. Def. Havent gotten my 3$ worth. Also got some bugs with the keyboard not hiding.

Appears to be unplayable!. Somebody should tell me the secret, this game doesn't seem to play, nothing happens. Grab a few gravity hooks, swing around like a monkey, then crash, that's it? Help appreciated :-)

Pretty cool... Nice little game that (as some else put it) is easy to learn, but difficult to master. The goal is to grapple onto mechanical spheres (which pull you higher - with goal of climbing as high as you can go). Some spheres propel you higher safely while others become mines that detonate if you touch them! A real fast and simple play mechanic that is a great game to just pick up and kill some time with. You get both the HD and Classic versions. Wish it was slightly cheaper, bur still reasonably priced for the replay value you get! Can be quite addictive!

Freeze. This app keeps freezing

Simple. Addictive.. I can't put this one down. I love the new style of this game though the old version is still a lot if fun. It's great that both are included. I gladly paid $3 for it though I can could this game being much more successful if priced closer to the $.99 mark.

Suggestions. multiplayer and/or different modes maybe? I had this game 2 or 1 years ago but decided to play again because i remember it was so fun. It looks exactly the same. Maybe some new features? Other then that I love this game! This game has potential to be as popular as angry birds and fruit ninja!

This game is highly polished with sharp, crisp graphics and great gameplay mechanics that are easy to learn but difficult to master. The music has a unique retro 16-bit flair, setting the mood for grappling into the unknown. Stop reading and start grappling some gravity nodes!

TERRIBLE. This is the worst game because it won't even load onto my iPad, I have had it for 2 days and all it says is installing! This game is lucky that it even got one star from me. I am making sure that I never buy from this creator again I hate this game that much!

Hmm.... This game is not easy. It is incredibly difficult and at some points just unfair. There was one sphere above me, I had the momentum, I hooked it. Before I knew it I was hurtling toward the ground. Not cool bro.

Great, but too expensive. This game is insanely fun. One of those games you will never get tired of. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because it is not worth the price. 3 dollars may not be much, but it makes a big difference in the long run. I'd give it 5 stars if it was only like a dollar

Used to be okay. In the 1.0 iteration, this was an okay 3 or 4 star application. Unfortunately, the recent patch has introduced a lot of bugs. I had unlocked classic mode, but the update removed that and, though the game says I've unlocked it several times, it is not available on subsequent runs. I even ended up at nearly 6,000 meters one time with the robot reading that it was 7,000 meters below the onscreen mines. I have no idea where it really was, though. The game crashes a lot now, too. It may be me, but I liked the old physics model better. Now, it is very hard to get any momentum going. All in all, I'll probably remove this app until it's updated.

Tutorial. There needs to be a tutorial or else I would give 2 more stars I don't even get it!

Nice game. Not a fan of the new physics.. I was slightly addicted to v1. The gameplay was interesting and addictive it was possible to improve your skills over time and move up the leader boards. It was clearly a 5-star game for me. But then... The new physics introduced in 1.1 are entirely different and value momentum over finesse. I find myself playing for shorter and shorter periods. I guess that's one way to cure an addiction... Any chance the developer could make the game physics be an option in the game preferences?

Fantastic. The design of this game is fantastic...beautiful graphics and some of the best game music I've ever heard. Gameplay is alternately punishing and rewarding, with a great use of physics. Please make more games!
