Alright. It’s overall a pretty fun pass-time. I wish it was more clear why things were happening. I will have a character’s morale bottom out and they get “forlorn” for no apparent or logical reason. They are not ill, the weather is fine, they are well fed, and they get mad and leave the party when the next fort is only 3 miles away. I understand having some random bad events happen in order to challenge the player, but randomness makes more sense with things like accidents, not character morale. If the next destination doesn’t have anyone offering to trade you a harmonica, or if the store at the next fort is out of stock, there is literally nothing you can do to improve morale. Only using a harmonica helps lol. Doesn’t matter if you take them to doctor, barber, have filling rations, get them clean clothes, rest, etc. It’s frustrating for things like this to happen in the game when it’s not clear why and you can’t do anything about it.

Pretty fun. This game was really fun to play, and I was fully immersed in all the journeys that the game had to offer. The hunting and rafting mini games are fun and rewarding as well. However, I have a couple criticisms about the game and it’s design. Firstly is the Winter. While Winter may not pose a threat to most players, it did during my play through of Oregon or Bust. I just braved the Colombian River, and was 60 miles from Oregon, and winter had only one day left. I wasn’t worried because I thought that winter would simply drain health over a period of time, which I was prepared for. However, once winter hit, my party instantly died and the expedition was concluded. I wish that instead of insta-death, winter would make travel difficult but possible. Secondly is when it comes to choosing a path during a journey; I believe there was too little of this. Options such as rafting down the Columbian river presented the option for saving in time and resources, with a difficulty to match it. Things like this would be appreciated. That’s it, good game!

Great but boring. Firstly this game is great. Secondly, there has been no update to the game for a long time. Here are some tips for a new update. One: you should add trailers to be able to add additional stuff. Two: you should make a separate trail. We already have California, so why not add Mormon? You can add stuff like hand carts and criminals that are just lurking in your path. You should also add items, like cooked food that restores more health and at forts you can cook stuff. You should also add families to the game with kids that need half as much needs as the adults. You should also be able to select if you want two, three, or four members. And when you are on the trail, you can get people who are desperate for help and get them onto your party. Three: We need more variety for contracts. We should get more tokens if you complete a trail contract or a fishing contract. Also, you should make them a little easier to achieve.

Glitch during fishing. I LOVE this game and I could play it all day. BUT there is this stupid glitch that keeps happening whenever I go fishing. Well to begin with, throughout the whole game I always get this thing that pops up saying something along the lines of “save error due to lack of space on iCloud”. I don’t pay for extra iCloud storage and don’t have any left but it still saves my game anyway? So continuing on with the fishing glitch, the notification that pops up about the saving error will pop up and I’ll click continue, and all of the words disappear but the little green background cloud stays and then the whole game just freezes and I can’t keep fishing. I have to close out the app to restart it and lose all the cool fish I caught. Sometimes it does this like 3 times in a row. I wish I knew if it happened to other people or if it’s just me. If it could be fixed that would be amazing!!!!

Ideas. Ok this game is Awesome but there are some additions that would be cool. A brief summary is, Wagon Trains that would let you play with other AI in a group of wagons or instead of AI we could have multiplayer with multiple wagons in a wagon train, new animals you could bring on the trail, including dogs for hunting, protection, and moral, Cats for keeping mice away from the food and moral, female cows for milk, and finally, Horses for transport when someone is to exhausted to walk, and for carrying extra supplies. Now I normally I am just saying things I come up with and want. But not this time. I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this review and if the devs are reading, your doing a great job and your game is great. These were just some ideas that I feel would fit well into the game. Please send a response because I would like to know what you think of my ideas. Keep doing well, Me

Annoyingly difficult and frustrating at times. Hear me out! I loved the game as a younger kid back in the day and this game is the reason I purchased apple arcade. Starting out the game is fun and has definitely a more complex and updated take from the original. However, I believe that some of the elements are almost taking away from the game, rather than doing it justice. For example, even when picking your crew, you get locked in with your choices and have no way of going back and changing your crew. Your crew decisions are a major part of the game and a lot of the time, who you pick to partake in certain challenges can greatly affect the gameplay and your success. Btw, I swear no matter how many times you try and help your crew with their skills, they almost are always failing. Their composure, hygiene, stamina decreases so frequently it’s almost impossible to actually prepare, especially as your wagon is literally constantly wearing down and breaking (it’s literally every freaking other moment). I could go on, but basically every step of the game is basically statistically screwed and you always lose, so take that as you may.

Good game, for awhile. I really enjoyed this game the first few times I played, but there were some features from the version I grew up with (version 3 I think) that I really miss. The first was a more educational and interactive “gather” option. It used to be you had to look up the plants in the guidebook and determine if they were safe to eat, which I thought was really cool. I’ll always be able to identify nightshade haha. It was fascinating and made gathering much more interesting. The second option I miss was being able to pick your departing date from Independence. This game it’s very easy to make it to Oregon by winter even though you leave in May. The version I grew up with this was not the case, and sometimes it made more sense to leave really early and cross the first river or two when it was frozen to avoid getting stuck in the mountains in September. Mostly, after a few rounds, the game just became too easy. The quests don’t change. It’s not that you get “Star Crossed Lovers” one time and “Peppard’s Folly” the next, you get them all every time. It makes it too predictable. More and varied quests would make the game much more fun over the long term, as well as the ability to choose a much harder level.

Pretty O.K.. On the one hand, I really enjoy the updated graphics and story-telling, and I feel like a lot of the original charm is retained. On the other hand, there are a lot of details that were overlooked, and it starts to get more annoying the longer you play. You can’t reroll characters easily, and sometimes the personality traits make no sense (such as a hedonistic yet religious missionary, or a frail yet athletic adventurer). You also can’t check what characters you already selected when selecting other member of your party (did you already get a physician? Can’t check). What your character traits effect are also kinda sloppy, for example my skilled trapper that regularly goes hunting got upset and lost morale when she shot an injured bunny to put it out of its misery. Latest play through, I had a character give a poor response to a decision based on a character trait he didn’t even have! He fell asleep instead of searching for supplies because he’s “wily,” except that’s not one of his character traits. I would love to be able to select character traits, or choose to have a smaller party, or basically just customize the adventure more. It’s not awful that I can’t, but it makes the experience just ok. There was more customization available in the original. There’s a lot of little things like the above that just feel sloppy. IMO this could’ve been an amazing game but there are too many missed opportunities and shortcuts with the gameplay.

I love this game- a few suggestions. This is the highest quality game I have ever played, and it is super fun. However, I have a bunch of ideas that would make it even better. To start, it would be nice if the wagon accidents and broken limbs were more moderated, because an issue I have is that the second I leave a fort, something bad happens to my party. Also, many of my characters will get a broken limb as soon as I restore their health again and heal them. I find this to be very frustrating, and would appreciate if there was some sort of algorithm you could install to fix this issue. Second, it would be really cool if children and pets could be included. By pets, I mean a dog or farm animal, and in some special journeys when you are able to use a horse, I would like to have that option for the main journeys like Oregon and California Trails. As for children, when you get to select your characters, it would be cool if you could choose children to join your group. The kids could have only one trait and no skills, and the limit per group could be two or three, but I think it would be a lot more realistic and fun to have more of a family element to the game. Also, other main journeys like the Mormon Trail would be really fun to complete. Overall, this is an awesome game and I hope yall read this.

Great! 2 issues. Got sucked in for 9 hours straight to complete the trail. But at the end of the trail one of my characters arrived to Oregon City to settle down and make "chease" pizzas. It's cheese! Second issue is that I very much disapprove of the repeated encouragements to carve our names in the rocks. Maybe that is a Native American tradition incorporated into the game but these days we don't need anybody carving into any natural wonders, and I am sure Native Americans don't want random people carving up their rocks, so I REALLY wish they would take that out? Kids will play this and think it is an encouraged activity to carve into trees and rocks in the wild. Other than that a very engaging game. I stayed up all night playing it, and might play it again. Oh and a third thing, it was not very hard to keep my team members alive through the whole trail, which is definitely a departure from the original game. But overall 5 stars.

It’s not “too difficult” It’s fun. The original Oregon Trail was meant to be an educational game, and so is this update. It’s not fast paced, it’s not loud, it’s not a button smash. A lot of the reviews on here are saying the game is too difficult. Maybe I played a the wrong mode, I made it to Oregon on my first attempt. Granted Gideon died from crushed leg, Hannah died of exhaustion, Benjamin got mauled by a bear and succumbed to his injuries. But Patty made it through Triumphantly. It sounds silly but I got attached to my little intrepid travelers and even though they irritated me at first, but the end I was invested in their journey. My favorites changed, I got mad at them, i even told them to “go ahead and die” a few times. But in the end, my least favorite became my hero, she persevered, hunted, fixed her wagon and at one point about 40 miles from the end, with her wagon hopelessly damaged low on food and injured, she waited to die. But she did finally succeed and I’m glad I was there too. It’s a fun game inspired by a simpler time in gaming. They could have done anything, but they did this. They stuck to the original concept just as all remakes should.

A Few Observations from an Old Player. I played Oregon Trail on Apple 2s in computer lab in 6th grade back in 1985. This game is supposed to be hard. You might lose, your party might die, bad things happen — you try again a different way. You might do everything right and still have a freak accident. That’s the Oregon trail, and also life. It doesn’t need to be made any easier, otherwise it’d be dull. As far as the PC elements, it’s fine. This game isn't supposed to get into the weeds with all that. All Native Americans weren’t utterly benign on the real Oregon trail, but some were indeed extremely generous with their time and help. Just like everything bad that’s ever happened isn’t just the fault of white people. But the safe route is the best route when making a game where your focus isn’t on the subtleties of who did what when. I love this game. I love the randomness of never knowing who you’re going to end up with in your party. It’s my favorite for long road trips — makes the time fly. I have a deep love for the land of the US and have travelled across it many times, and this game is a carefully crafted love letter to the (still) untamed beauty of the West.

LOVE this game!!. Since I’ve just seen a couple more negative reviews for this app, I want to say that I think it’s amazing — you guys crushed it!! It combines the nostalgia and enjoyable intrigue of the original Oregon Trail game (which I grew up playing and was obsessed with lol) with a more involved, engaging, and exciting gameplay, which I LOVE, and the graphics are wonderful as well. Further, there are no little money grabs or ads or purchaseables (as far as I can tell) to sully the app and spoil the experience for people who can’t or don’t want to pay, which I think is especially refreshing and makes the gameplay feel much more genuine and authentic. The result is a game that I can’t resist playing for hours on end, way more I should be when it’s currently my finals week. I really hope that the developers continue to add new side quests/unlockables and maybe an extended or additional full-length trail mission comparable to the main “Oregon Trail” one; either way, I think this is a great app and I’d like to encourage the developers to keep it up:)

Good game, just have a few recommendations. Hey this is a good game but I feel like it could be more fun story wise. The game is somewhat accurate but maybe it would be fun to add multiplayer? Like for example people could join a wagon party and vote on certain decisions. And if someone dies then maybe she could become an Angel or help choose the events that happen to the remaining party. Plus there could be a chat that helps people say why they might want to go to snake river or three islands crossing. Another thing is that I completed a quest and it said I unlocked the music class but when I went to choose the class for a different play through it said it was not unlocked even though I completed it? I’ve finished the game once and didn’t really do any tasks so do I have to complete the full game? If I die then will I still get the class? If so then why couldn’t it be after I completed the quest.

Time brings about change. So, I remember this came from back in the mid-to-late 80's as we used the old-skool macs in school to play. Of course, we all looked forward to playing Oregon Trail. I happened to be sharing this nostaglic memory with my 9y old son when it dawned on me to see if they still had this game around today. Turns out, it's been upgrade a bit and must admit they've done a phenomneal job with the entire game. I love how they've modernized the game while retaining the essence of the classical game we all knew and loved. The colors and graphics are vibrant and the audio and track selection is spectacular. Sometimes less is more but dont think the devs could have possibly nailed it any more perfectly! I love the fact they've finally included those who were most essential to the story , the Native Americans! Great job guys.

Addicting, fun and challenging.. I absolutely love playing Oregon Trail. I played The Oregon Trail and Oregon Trail 2. I preferred the second one on my PC. I don’t have have a CD-ROM drive on my laptop and was really wanting to play Oregon Trail. I discovered this game and have been playing non-stop. It is super addictive! I love the fishing and hunting challenges as they bring more to the game and can increase the characters skillsets. I have never left a review for a game but felt the need to promote this one. Travel across the country side, go fishing and hunting and try not to get cholera! I loveeee that they introduced some new characters and backstories. I think it would be interesting and would love if there were more character added in. I love the mini-games and getting the bad guy to abandon his quest for vengeance- or completing it… and fishing. The graphics are great for a phone game. I am very pleased with the game and look forward to any updates or improvements they may add in the future.

I love the latest update! However…. Ever since the new update, I have things randomly disappear from my wagon. The party can be walking down the trail or resting overnight & lose ALL of whatever item it is. I’ve now lost over 50 pelts (11, 14, 10, 7, 1 at a time, however many I have on hand, & I need these for river crossings!), over 20 coffees, over 10 medicines, over 10 clothes, & over 5 wheel grease…& that’s only what I’ve managed to actually watch disappear from my inventory. There is no “history” menu for me to pull them up & screenshot the proof of their disappearance after they disappear from the right side of the screen. Thanks to your new character randomizer (which I absolutely LOVE!) I’ve had charming characters each of these trips so those pelts that were lost cost me $8 each! 3 different times though I’ve lost the bulk of my pelts near the snake river crossings when I’ve needed them most. PLEASE fix this! I know you have bugs you have to work out after new feature updates, so can you please address this so I stop losing inventory into thin air for no reason whatsoever??? 🙏🏻🥺🙏🏻

Frustration!. I was looking for a problem-solving, character-based game that wasn’t just about shooting, and this one looked good. As a scholar of American history, I was doubly delighted to find a game with a context that was meaningful to me. Until now. My party is starving. I’ve tried to trade for food and bullets at the last three opportunities. Each time, we haggle and agree to a fair trade. But then I’m not given the option of completing the trade! The only option offered is “reconsider.” I don’t know what the problem is, and I certainly have no idea how to fix it, but what was an enjoyable experience of problem solving has turned into an exercise in frustration. Prior to today I would have given this game five stars, but at this point I only gave it three because it is fun when it is working. Of today was my first experience of the game, it would have been generous of me to award it one star.

Immersive Story, Amazing Game, One Suggestion. I feel like my review was never looked at so I’m dropping a star, a developer response would be nice. Watching Mary die every time is honestly tedious and heartbreaking, and while I believe for new players this experience is one they should have, for people who have traveled the trail a lot a Physician with Medicine or Herbs should be capable of saving her. Another suggestion is the ability to save load outs for groups, dying on the trail and having to reselect everything individually is also quite tedious, it would be easier to just jump right in with a group you prepared and saved ahead of time, stats and all. Overall, this game is fantastic and your team is doing a wonderful job. Please at least acknowledge my review, even with a small “thank you” response and I’ll prop this back to five stars. Thank You and keep up the good work guys!

The Oregon Fail. What a complete and total disaster this version of the game is. The Oregon Trail game was, once upon a time, as much about making your own decisions as it was about teaching historical lessons. That’s what made it fun but also an effective teaching tool. That’s what made it a cultural touchstone. That’s what made it an experience as close to being on the real trail as possible without putting yourself in actual danger. This massively dumbed-down version of the game is heavily scripted and revokes essential decision-making freedom. Not only doesn’t it trust the player to go their own way, it flat out won’t permit it. It’s clear that the only goal here was to teach players how to follow instructions, not how to make smart decisions for themselves. Even the simplest task of creating your own party has been greedily snatched away from the players, who must instead choose from a pre-generated assortment of characters who are only there to follow the script and make sure that the player never has any real control over the outcome. These developers should never have been trusted with this franchise. They should be embarrassed by what they’ve done.

Simply not fun. I tried out this game, it is a remake of the classic Oregon Trail game where you guide a party of settlers from MO to OR in 1848. I have a lot of experience with Oregon Trail 2 so compared it to that. The game seems to have made changes to be more realistic, but this makes the game too difficult and not fun. For example crossing the river usually fails, even if I choose the appropriate choice given the depth. You are supposed to seal the wagon with animal skins bit they are very hard to obtain. Money and supplies are very limited, you never have enough of what you need , and trying to trade is ridiculously expensive. Moreover, you have to micromanage your party’s stats and medical conditions which is tedious and unsatisfying. You don’t know your party members’ skills and discover this during the game, but having the info upfront would be more convenient. The party members have positive and negative traits as well. It seems like a mixture of Darkest Dungeon and Oregon Trail, too stressful. Finally, they just offer the Oregon Trail which is limited. In Oregon Trail 2 you can choose 4 destinations and have direct control every move your party makes on the trails.

Simple, Fun, and Beautiful!. An absolutely extraordinary masterpiece! This game is easy to get into and engaging, always having something new to see or find. The different journeys and unlocks in this game give you fun little stories to follow along after beating the main game. But once completing them you also unlock new things to use in the main story which gives you a reason to seek out and play the other stories. This game has one of the most beautiful mobile graphics for a pixel game I’ve seen. Combines pixel art with some 3D models and absolutely amazing lighting to really set the mood and is a huge upgrade compared to the older Oregon trial games. The only thing I wish could be changed is the fact that this game is only for mobile and only on Apple Arcade. I can easily see myself and others playing this game on a PC or switch. I hope that this game expands beyond Apple Arcade, it would help give the game change to grow even more and expand its player base! Hopefully in the future I can buy this game on the Apple store instead of having to pay for a subscription!

Fun but unrealistic. I really enjoy the game!! I even enjoy the challenges that come along the way! The problem is, it seems that every move i make leads to an inescapable casualty. I can understand that the game is supposed to emulate what the people who traveled the Oregon trail went through, but the amount of injuries and wagon break downs is just unnecessary. I wouldn't mind it if there were a strategic way to avoid it but there isn't. Even when it comes to the wagon breaking down iver time grease hardly does anything. In fact, during one of my play throughs i used grease and literally not even a moment later my wagon broke down. Also, when i traverse rivers the odds are never in my favor. Several times ive had a 70% or higher chance of getting across and out all those times the only time i did was when i had close to 100%. Thats just unreasonable!!! I really enjoy this game, but the difficulty being astronomical just makes it not fun to play. Like i said adding strategic elements to make things less likely to go bad (stretching to prevent exhaustion, checking the wagon to prevent food from going moldy and snakes from biting ur ppl, literally ANYTHING to prevent disentery, better wagon grease to stave off wagon malfunctions, etc.) would make it being so difficult not so much of a drawback cause there'd be ways to combat it!

Great game! I love it!. I remember my dad playing the original version, I used to watch him as a kid. It’s great to play with a more modern version, while seeing the retro vibe this game used to have. I love this game! I’ve been spending a lot of my spare time playing. The game saves right where you left from, every time, and it is quite realistic while being relaxing and challenging at the same time. My few recommendations to make the game more fun and challenging: • Adding bow and arrow hunting. Much like regular hunting, you must acquire a bow (which can wear out over time) and arrows. It would be a new, fun mini game. • Adding kids/families to the game. That would also be a more realistic touch of the real-life Oregon Trail. It would be challenging, as children need more food, medicine and clothing to survive. They can help gather natural remedies, foodstuffs, and keep the adults’ morales up. •More options for random travelers to join your party (unless you already have 4). • Also more karma-like consequences for your actions. Not just impacting morale, but the choices one makes will effect the party later (maybe a butterfly could be beside a button to show the player a butterfly-effect option). Thank you for developing a fun, enjoyable game without constant ads and the pressure to spend real money.

Needs Improvement. I’ve played almost 20 hours now, and it’s pretty repetitive and a bit irritating. There is so much potential for this game, but it looks like the developers only cared about graphics and design. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful game with a fresh take on the classic Oregan Trail, but it lacks so much gameplay. The same few scenarios play out a hundred times through the journey, and even if you’ve used grease on your wagon 10 seconds ago, you’ll likely still breakdown. Crossing a River with 75% chance of success? You won’t make it. Need coffee? That’s going to be 18 herbal remedies. Then you have some random characters whose traits you don’t really know yet, and it really doesn’t matter all that much. I can have someone with a level 6 shooting skill, but it makes no difference if I use the character with 1 level shooting skill. I’m not saying it’s a terrible game, but it definitely needs more content to it. Another example is that if I get an item that I don’t think is going to be as useful to me, such as a harmonica or wayfinding book, why can’t I sell it? The only items I can actually sell are the pelts. Anything else is just for trade and I’ve never been able to trade the books or harmonicas.

A Great Update to an Old Favorite. I remember playing this game in elementary school on an Apple IIe, which ages me a lot. It was a reward to play it in the computer lab at the time, and it was fun to play. You knew going in that your characters were probably going to die, but it was still really fun. This game is very much the same. I ended up playing it for hours just to get my characters to Oregon, and that took multiple tries. It’s very addictive and still a lot of fun. I tried the KaBoom mission, but failed both times. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to devote to the addiction this games causes to play it hours on end, so I haven’t had the chance to master that mission yet. I look forward to playing the other missions, especially the Native American one. When I first downloaded the game, I was shocked at the low rating, then I read the most critical reviews and figured it out. If you think being honest about what really happened and treating people with respect is being “woke” then you’re the snowflake. Please don’t let the low rating discourage you. The game is fun and once you figure out the game play, you have a higher chance of surviving/making it to your destination. Yes, some of the stuff is repetitive, like the stupid snakes. What’s the deal with the stupid snakes and people not using a stick to check the wagon or bush!?! Once you get bit the first time, you’d start doing that. 😱🤦🏻‍♀️

The new update lets you tap into history even more.. As an avid history fan when I got Apple Arcade I saw they remade the Oregon trail and I was ecstatic, it’s been half a year now and I’m still happy with it, the game is somewhat realistic but far better than other, and the new inclusion of the Donner-Reeds party trail made it even better, using these new history events can make the game even better and maybe they could include some fascinating fictitious trails as well? The only cons I have on this game is how any time you check for supplies in the wagon there’s a snake or something else, and the constant need to repair a wagon makes the game more challenging than I thought it would, in my opinion the wagon breaking down should be done in greater spans of times rather than almost every other encounter.

Love this reboot!. I remember playing the original in the 90’s and I was so excited to see that there is a new version. I feel that it beautifully pays homage to the previous versions while being much more playable and wonderfully remastered. I love that it’s educational and fun. There are so many different challenges and possibilities. I was hooked right away and got my family playing it! Thank you so much for reviving such a memorial part of my childhood. The people who hate it have clearly never played previous versions lol and they clearly don’t pay attention to the advice that the game gives them. It’s easy to survive the game if you choose wisely. But it’s also really fun to struggle because I feel that’s a realistic experience for the Oregon and California trails.

Not as much fun as I thought!. I keep getting challenges to collect meat with zero chances given to do so. I keep getting challenges to collect 3 berries with only one bush. No matter what player I pick, I waste bait on things I can't do anything with. My wagon breaks down more often then it makes sense. Who actually packs 10 tool boxes and or other repair stuff. Why are they all work only 1? Same with the food. Meat... crackers... berries doesn't matter it's all worth only 1. Why have so much different stuff off it's technically all the same? It gives me options the game refuses leaving me only "wait" as an option!? What's that about?? You need water! Here's water! Oh wait cholera! Why give Traps.. then not be able to use them. Oh wait! The game uses them for you and they did nothing at all???? It spends more time setting up the issues then providing solutions! 8hrs in going slow and eating a lot all clean and rested but because I have no harmonicas!? My entire group is forlorn!? Not my fault you only provided 2! Can't buy them or make them? Just ten to 1 issues over solutions!! Lame!!!! It gets EVEN WORSE!! I just used stat items to increase one of my characters. And immediately the game makes me get rid of her. Yes.... made me. No option at all to keep her. Really?? Who is playing this game??

Beautiful, educational, immersive experience. I grew up in Oregon playing the original Oregon Trail on an Apple IIe in elementary school. While maintaining the essence of the original, this massive re-imagining of a classic game expands upon the experience. Each journey is unique and complex, based on route choices, interactions with various (often historical) characters along the trail, and an array of gameplay options. Not only can players choose to play the traditional route with its many hardships, but also expanded options, such as the more relaxed Nature Trail, whose main purpose is to collect animal sightings along the way. Talking to characters on the trail or at waypoints is a welcome opportunity to see the journey from other perspectives. We meet Native Americans, Mormons, gunslingers, lovers, and musicians. Players can gain tools and experience playing a winter version. I haven't yet tried many of the small games, but there is even an option to experience the California Trail. This game is so pretty. The graphics are dynamic, changing with terrian and seasons, yet familiar with touches of the retro 16-bit game we know and loved. The background music is pleasant and drives the game forward without being tiresome or distracting. The pace of the game feels good to me. It's not overly addictive, but there are plethora of achievements to unlock.

A true time killer. Although this review is titled true time killer this game is much more then that. It’s a game that’s been polished by developers who obviously care. There’s lots of balance to the game such as the characters stats which helps allow for different strategies, each strategy having there own strengths and weaknesses the game by it self can be played as slow as you want it to and each character you play with can become who you want them to throughout your journey which makes the characters feel way more developed the further you play overall this game has beautiful graphics and I haven’t experienced a single bug or glitch yet highly recommend for anyone who wants to experience a game that has amazing development and can be replayed countless times

My favorite game. I only got this game two days ago and I’ve already completed the Oregon trail and the California trail. This game is so full of adventure and excitement that it’s insane! Usually I don’t like mobile games but I haven’t put this game down since I got it! It’s incredibly historical and I’ve already learned so much just by completing the tasks that the game gives to me. I applaud the creators for all the amazing work they’ve done on this game. I beg of you to continue making content for this game, because it’s quickly become my favorite game ever. I do have one request that may make the game more interesting: I request a game mode in which you can pick the personalities and appearances of your party before you make your way down the trail. Of course I imagine that this would be a separate game mode unlocked by completing the Oregon trail for the first time, but I was surprised to find that this wasn’t something already added to the game.

It was great but then…. They fixed the walking part. They took away the daily mile counts and replaced them with steps in the “walk the trail” feature. Even when “miles” is selected as the measurement, it gives total travel in miles, but daily travel in steps. It’s dumb and gives me little to no idea how much I’ve actually walked. Please fix it. Also, when they updated the contracts to be daily instead of weekly, they failed to consider that some contracts take longer than a day to complete for people that don’t want to sit on their phone all day. The contracts based around mini games like hunting or rafting make sense to be daily, but ones that involve running part or all of the trail should still be weekly. Seems like the logical thing to do would be to separate them into two different contracts; daily and weekly.

Good game; not fully compatible with new macbook screens. I realize the game is meant to look pixelated and nostalgic, and i like the effect, but, aside from this, the actual resolution is low. you can see this in any dropdown menu from the apple menu bar. same thing with everything in-game, if you look closely. again, im NOT referring to the intentional 8-bit look (which i actually like). but clearly the graphics are being scaled up from lower resolution, and its hard to ignore. aside from this, the audio and gameplay are great so far. they've done a nice job of retaining the original gameplay while throwing in some active mechanics that feel modern. there are several progressive mechanics that make the game replayable. they also put some effort in to more accurate portrayals of native people, which is greatly appreciated.

I want to give it five stars so bad. The traditional game is great. But as you know from having played it as a kid, it gets old after playing it no more than two times. Fortunately, there are all of these extra contracts. Unfortunately, I’m thinking this app was made for some thing other than iOS because they are so difficult that I don’t think the software can have even been designed for my operating system. It would rely on some kind of controller or keyboard, like a gaming set up. If you can’t complete contract, you can’t do anything new in the game. You’ll see what I mean. When you go to play them - they are ridiculously difficult to the point of being impossible. So I am deleting the app and because it was my only reason for the Apple Arcade membership and I’ll be canceling that too. Hope you guys can improve this game in the future! Response to developer: all of them. Whip out an iPad and see how many tokens you can get. You’ll see.

😍 One of the best games ever! And a few ideas. Hi Developers! You must be the best game designers of all time! Because this is one of the best games of all time! 😍 This is a super super fun game. It has choices you can make and you choose your party members and when they die you can make Them a grave stone! I even have a favorite character! 😎 I totally LOVE this game and I give infinity stars to it! You don’t even have to use real money for anything! It’s a challenging fun game. I play this game every day for a loooong time (Not kidding or exaggerating) OK, Now some ideas: Since you can see trail weddings (and Ava’s and Douglas’s wedding) (and random ones too) I think you should be able to have one girl and one boy from your party get married! And then give birth to a baby! And the longer you travel the baby is growing up while your traveling! And turning into a kid! (Maybe even a grown up after they turn into a kid) And then in the character selection you can pick already kids or already babies 👶🏻! 😃 These ideas were inspired by the thing you can put on the gravestone that says Our Only Child, (Then it puts the person’s name obviously) But if there are no children or babies how can I use that ?! Bye best game developers ever! P.s. call me Doggie *Doggie 🐶

Prioritized virtue signaling. I couldn’t get into the game without a mini shame laced history lesson about how some people are still raw about being utterly conquered hundreds of years ago. I’m sure all the super orthodox natives are just wringing their hands while downloading your game to see how empathetic you are to their collective and universally shared thoughts… The point is, we expect historical accuracy. The explained redundancy solely based on virtue signaling is just sad. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if their was an option for a gay couple or a groomed trans child just to keep the cancel creatures from attacking in the contemporary world. Do you openly sympathize with parents who have lost young children to sickness and have therefore collaborated with mothers and doctors? I don’t know, maybe I’m just jaded and broken by the nonstop barrage of politics and race baiting. But it’s a game. No explanation needed. Let us feel the added content without patting yourself on the back and adding to the social contagion of stolen valor/victimization peddling. Maybe I’ll try your game during the first week of “Caucasian people’s heritage celebration month”… (It sounds just as dumb with any other “race”)

Was fun for a sec…. I LOVED this game as a kid. I loved learning the history and imagining I was there with my crew. The graphics are quite beautiful, yet the gameplay is a little annoying and painfully slow at parts. Lots of clicking to proceed again and again…and again. Yet the biggest clincher for me is it is NOT RELAXING TO PLAY. Firstly, you don’t have full freedom to pick your team. No families in this game guys. A bit generic and unrealistic. But the people you can choose, their “skills” are hidden until you pick them for a task (ie hunting) and then it’s revealed how (usually) bad they are at hunting. Frustrating. Secondly, you have to hunt for pelts to gain money, and hunting is not a fun “duck hunt” experience, it’s difficult. And you can’t trade any other goods for money, and you can’t just be a trapper, why? And why does the knife dull after 2-3 uses? Can’t it be sharpened? Also the wagon breaks excessively, the oil is useless, and the wheels and tongues and axles are way too expensive and bulky and can only be used once, whereas the toolboxes are cheap and small and have 3 uses per parcel. This is just nonsense math. And crossing a 2ft River should never result in an accident, yet it does, often. So basically I’ve had my stress adrenaline zapped for 5 days playing this game. Deleted it this morning. I am bummed my fave childhood game is not the same as it was and thus, not for me anymore. Moving on sadly.

Fun and challenging, however. ***spoilers ahead*** The new update is much appreciated and I love how fishing is now part of the game. And though racists love to out themselves by complaining about this, I appreciate the perspective of Natives. Revisionist history is the kumbaya we’re taught in school, not the reality written from actual Natives, Kyle. Anyway. My complaint (and the spoilers start here) is that there is no way to save Little Mary. I understand it represents a reality of how difficult life on the trail could be but it’s a little too much of a shock through the heart. I wish there were some choice you could make to save her. Having a 4 year old you’ve met, talked to, engaged with, and gotten to know die instead of seeing her next birthday is a bit too much and it makes me not want to replay knowing that I’ll be faced with that prospect again. Also might be triggering for people who have experienced loss of a child, as it certainly wasn’t a phenomenon unique only to that time period.

Not the Oregon Trail You Remember. This is my first review ever, only because this game was so aggravating to beat. When I first saw this in the App Store I was so excited because I had such nostalgia for the Oregon Trail I played when I was a kid. This is not it. On my first play through, I managed to get to Oregon, but the game’s design is more reactive than preventative. For example, I had over 12 snake bites, 4 wagon wheels broken, 6 times I had to get water from a cholera infested pond, and God forbid you decide to ford the river without pelts. In all these scenarios you better have the appropriate items to fix or you’re screwed. Additionally, the game’s formula is lazy. It’s always the same 2-3 scenarios followed by a campsite, a hunting ground, or a berry bush. Speaking of which, your party members’ traits are completely random, so if you get a dim-witted, hedonistic priest (makes zero sense)... you’re screwed. I hope the developers update the game because it needs a ton of refinement for it to be fun.

finally can try getting to the end. I haven’t even downloaded it yet it’s in the process but if this is anywhere near as fun as the original I am sure I will get plenty of time. Probably one of the few games I have not beaten actually other than Zelda on NES this would be the only other. Normally any game that unexpectedly killed my character from cholera after doing so well for so long surviving multiple river crossing and many other hardships I would’ve just turned it off. This game somehow held Past that instinct something Setting fire to determination to see that My desire to win would prevail not accepting got sick and died of cholera as my fate lol. unfortunately this game I did not own but played at school so I’m glad to see you here I can assure you I will Get to California after tasting it so many times getting through almost every hardship and actually making it to Oregon thank you guys for bringing it back

Its fun but too much. I just started playing the game and I'm not gonna lie. I really enjoy the challenge and adventure. One thing I find rather irritating and the reason why I kinda lost interest, is that it's unrealistic. Every second, every lil bit my group walks, something horrible happens. It really makes it pointless to spend my money I saved because in every second I'm going to use my tools. Whether it's medicine, fixing my wagon or simply an accident where my character foot gets stumbled. The possibilities that were fun in the beginning are now irritating and not enjoyable. It should be dictated on what path I take, not just because I'm walking. And also when it comes to choosing the group. We should decide how many we want. I find it easier to maintain 2 or even one and with the challenges involve, it then becomes more relaxed. I'm not saying make it way easier, just some of us would rather enjoy a backstory the group we create and adventure, instead of just the “survival” story. If I make sense lol.

It’s awesome so far!. As a history buff, I really enjoy playing this game. I like how there are variations as to which trail you’re on, it represents history well. I just wish the devs would add the Mormon Trail. I mean, sure, you can meet mormon travellers every once in a while on your journeys, but I feel like that’s not enough. It would also be pretty cool if you could vary your party sizes, instead of always having four. Another thing I wish was In this game is the ability to bring kids along with you. That would be especially fitting since some of the epitaphs say stuff like “our only child” and “little ____”. There should also be a teacher/professor class that can be added to your party, and they could be witty or brilliant or something like that. Overall, it’s an excellent game and I look forward to seeing new things added to it.

A few ideas. This a great game absolutely fun to play but there a few ideas that would make better and funnier. I think it would be a good idea if you had the option to shuffle characters when choosing your party because I always find myself choosing characters I don’t want and having to exit out come back all over over again it can get annoying that’s why I think it would be a good idea if we had the option to shuffle the characters. Also I could see duck hunting in this game as well dlc’s like the California trail and Mormon Trail. Another idea that would be very useful is when your character leaves to go get help but then the other character dies and you get to continue your it would be helpful if that character came back and continued the journey. I would like to see multiplayer added into this game I know that doesn’t seem like a thing would include but what if you could travel in groups instead of four people it would make the more exciting and fun if you were able to play with friends online. Another thing would to have a bigger party of six or five I think having more people would have better chances of getting to Oregon but it make harder because having to take care of more people and spending more money. One last thing you guys should make an ASMR mode just traveling and listening to calming sounds of nature.

Oregon Trail LE (Liberal Edition). Oregon Trail gone “woke” and that’s enough to put anyone off. I remember playing the original game on my computer as a kid. Growing up and learning more about it, I wasn’t ignorant of the plight of Native Americans and how the trail affected them and vice versa. I give it 3 stars because I get what they are trying to accomplish here and it is a interesting new take on the classic game…but I think the developers forgot that it was just a game. A game that they ended up taking to seriously and giving it a liberal make over and excluding people while trying to be “inclusive” while the aim was to be more “accurate” and provide Native American representation the game still had inaccuracies if they want to be 100% true by the book and be factually and historically correct. I downloaded this game thinking it was a modern paint job on the classic vs booting up my Windows XP and staring at the green screen 😂. Overall it’s not a horrible take and interesting to play but I think I’ll stick with the original classic. I do however recommend that if you haven’t played this, it’s worth playing through at least once. My only issue is the “woke” aspect as it’s off putting.

Fantastic version of the game. This is a great updated version of the game. I have two complaints/suggestions. First, I wish we could run the entire California Trail instead of being forced to start the journey midway at Fort Hall. There doesn’t seem to be any reason not to let us start at Independence. You could even make it so no mining opportunities are available for the first half of the trip in order to avoid creating any balance issues with accumulating extra gold. Second suggestion/complaint is with the quality of characters offered. With three characters to choose from on each of four screens, and two traits for each character, it is not in any way unusual to see 5/6 traits on any one character page be negative. I don’t want to run journeys with four characters who are frail and slack. I’m just going to keep restarting until O get some decent trait options. There are several things you could do to fix this. Either decrease the rate of negative traits, or at least allow those who have completed a journey to have the option of making custom characters or avoid overt negative character sections.

Well done Gameloft. The Oregon Trail, the iconic computer game from the MECC many of us grew up playing in school and libraries is reimagined in yet another way. This one is an absolute delight which in my mind is high praise considering I am not a huge gameloft fan. But wow! You guys really did pour a lot of heart and soul into this game beyond just the sound and visuals (which are perfect, by the way). It reminds me of the firaxis remake of xcom enemy within in terms of quality. There’s a bit of randomness here to keep you on your toes and add replay value (as I recall it was there in the older versions of Oregon Trail) including the threat of dysentery, success fording the river/caulking the wagon, encounters Etc. Even hunting is made like it was “back then” ala tank controls, which I actually like. It could use some improvements perhaps, making trapping/hunting/fishing more lucrative beyond just pelts/fish to sell or trade but it might be nitpicking. I still can’t think of anyone doing any better here except maybe firaxis? Overall I have to say I am quite pleased and I bet Apple is too. Download this and Sneaky Sasquatch and you have serious competition (in terms of gameplay quality) to any other systems’ exclusives.

Great Game, Fun Timewaster. This game is one of the most fun games I've played in a while. I had rather low standards for this game, because I have played other versions of this game and didn't really like them. When I decided to give this game a shot, I instantly fell in love. I have already put 6 hours into this game, and here is my review. This game is great, it captures the aspects of so many things perfectly. It makes it seem like you are in the game, walking along with your party. It keeps hunting in the style of the old games, but fixes it up a lot and makes it way more balanced. I love the way that you can trade with other people at landmarks. This game took most aspects from the original, and refined them, and added more. This game captures how difficult, long and grueling the oregon trail actually was. Whether it's drinking nasty water and getting sick, having low heigine, getting exauhsted, or litterally getting so bored that you storm off, it captures it all perfectly. There are snakebites and mites, biting at you constantly. You have to save up medicine, meat, and more just so that your party members don't get sick, or lose health. Yes, it does take a long time to beat, and it is pretty difficult, but other than that, it s a great game.

Wonderful Game!. I love this game! It’s wonderful! Had to get Apple Arcade for it but it was so worth it. People might say it’s “too difficult” but that’s what the original Oregon Trail was- difficult. Veryyyyy difficult. Applause to you for making it so well. We need to remember the brave people who made the journey upon this trail. I only have one super small suggestion: So, I was playing the game, and I had two bags of flour. I came across an abandoned wagon and decided to take a couple of parts from it. Well, the parts wouldn’t fit unless I discarded the flour. I wish I could’ve had the option from inside the wagon to bake all the flour into hardtrack, can you add that? Although that’s a super small suggestion, I know. This is truly an amazing game, and for those of you who are reading the reviews to see if you should get it: YOU SHOULD!! TL;DR? - get this game!

Nature Trail Journey. I keep seeing the Devs suggest this “relaxing” play mode to players criticizing how hard the game is in regular mode. However; I have played the Nature Trail Journey twice now and I have gotten wiped out on the first river both times! I don’t know how this is supposed to be “easier”, when I was able to beat the regular mode with 3 of my party members still with me when I got to Oregon City on my first go? I think if you are going to offer an easy mode, it really should be much more easy than the regular mode. Maybe give every river a ferry option and make money more easy to come by? I bought the most expensive wagon on the Nature Trail Journey, whereas I had the mid-range wagon on my original game in regular mode, and I could not see any significant difference in the resistance to wear and tear on the more expensive one. Maybe you could make the wagon status bar read more like the health, stamina, etc... bars for the characters? I would also like the benefit of using wheel grease to be more clear. For example, if it was more like the bars for everything else in the game, the grease could restore 2 or 3 segments in the bar - and a fuller bar would significantly decrease the likelihood of a breakdown? This game is so pretty, fun, and has got me hooked so far - but I can see what the other commenters are talking about, and I can tell that I’ll lose interest in the game pretty soon if I keep running into these inconsistencies.

I READ THE BOOK OMG. This is the best book every so is the game

Really fun game!. Loving this game really fun and an easy way to pass time. I never played the original but I really really love this game I’m addicted! But one minor piece of feedback is that I feel like I’m getting broken arms and legs a lot. But otherwise a great game!

Amazing. Wow. This game surprised me.. I started playing thinking I wouldn’t enjoy it and now I’m addicted and pretty much completed everything within a few days! But in saying that, this game is that fun that you want to play it over and over again!

Wow. I remember playiny this game back in the 80s on a pc , this remake as it were is fantastic !!!!!!👍👍😎😎😁😁😀😀✌️✌️LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

Fun Adventure and very addictive. It’s simple point and click stuff but there’s so many events and dangers to get caught up in plus items to manage and your party needs that you have to consider. Managing your belongings can become an issue as that becomes its own mini game. I love the game so far, very addictive!

Good. Good

A blast from the past!. Brings back a rushing river of nostalgia. This is a incredible revamp of the Apple II classic, the Oregon Trail. It's a beautiful game and has so much detail and depth. It does this all while sustaining the original game's pixel art style. It even adds a 3D foreground and background, a lovely lighting engine, and loads of extra side quests to complete, there is no doubt that the Oregon Trail is the best Apple RPG out there. With compatibility for iPad, iPhone, Mac and even weirdly Apple TV (I don't get this, why would you use your Apple TV for gaming, unless I mean you're a kid who doesn't have anything else to use) it has a wide range of platforms. Personally, it is my favourite iPad game. Massive thanks to the developers for consistent content updates, such as weekly challanges (Contracts) and even different trails. Huge thanks to all involved in making this game possible. And of course, thank you Gameloft!!

The best!. Totally addictive game! I love the way that it blends realistic and 8-bit styles. The music is appropriate for the game and is a big ear worm. I gave been thinking, and gave a suggestion for a similar multiplayer game option. I recommend 4+ players and a local network. All players (except one) choose a person, their traits eg. athletic and neat, and job, and the one who doesn’t is the story teller, who would select the stats and events that happen along the trail. I suggest for that game mode you could shorten the trail or leave that up to the story teller. Great game, absolutely live the work put in. 👍

Great game. No complaints this is a wonderful game, just please load new levels to do each week? Thanks and great job

Saved game can’t be saved to device. There is no option to have game progress saved to device. Progress must be saved to the iCloud and as my iCloud is full the game is unplayable for me. I get to the main menu and a save error continually pops up so I can’t even play the game unfortunately.

Pretty fun. This game is great to kill time

Great game!. Love this game. It has to be one of my all time favourites!

One of the best Apple Arcade games. I am having a lot of fun with the game, it’s very engrossing, and interesting. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I feel the events and dialogue can be very repetitive. An example being meeting a girl named Ava who wants to marry someone else you meet, I’ve seen this event on every playthrough and it’s getting old. I’d prefer if the characters you meet at stops would have some variety as well, otherwise I just completely ignore their dialogue.

Review. Take it off Apple Arcade

Great addition to Apple Arcade. Great work Gameloft! A fun, pretty, and nifty little recreation of the original game. I love it! Hope to see you publishing more games through the Arcade.

Self explanatory. IM OFF TO OREAGON

Surprisingly Awesome. Thought I’d give this game a try…. Didn’t expect it to be good…. And I was totally wrong! I can not recommend this game enough SOOO ADDICTIVE!! Well Done!! Awesome game

Love this game. This game is absolutely great. Super relaxing, strategic and just super fun. I find myself playing this game whenever I have spare time. This game was super well-made has tons of polish and gameplay features. Would recommend to everyone

Great.. but needs better save system. This a great take of a classic educational game. But it needs a better save system. Lost progress because it didn’t save when I thought it would save. Looked for a way to save manually but there wasn’t a way.

Best Apple Arcade Game.. This game is the best Apple Arcade game and you should 100% get it

Nostalgic but better that I remembered. I still remember the first of two times I ever played The Oregon Trail back when I was in primary school, 23 years ago. It was an amazing game for it's time with graphics much better than other educational games. I only got to play it twice in the school library though which is a regret I kept until today. I will definitely go on more adventures now that I have it on my macbook!

Unexpected. I didn’t think I would enjoy this game, but, it has surprised me in a good way. I started playing it to pass some time on the train and now I’m looking forward to playing it in my down time! The game is challenging, which is refreshing, the soundtrack fits perfectly and Im excited about the sightseer option. My constructive criticism is the wagon stowage screen, if that was a little bit bigger or perhaps magnified slightly it would be mildly less annoying trying to shuffle your equipment around and it not going in its spot right away. Great job to the team 💪🏾

Loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed this game! I wish the extra journeys you could follow a bit more or more of them altogether! Awesome game

Bingeworthy, give me more!. I’ve spent practically the whole weekend playing this game from beginner to master way finder. Early on I found it challenging and enjoyable with a tolerable learning curve. The amount of content made for a pretty great and curious adventure. I have just finished playing through the game successfully on the hardest mode and It is only now that the game is starting to round off and become predictable. The game takes a long time to complete, and while this does add to the experience, long recurring animations leave me craving a fast forward button especially after multiple play throughs. I would love to see the game updated with more content including new mechanics and items to learn about. I would also very much appreciate an even more difficult tier of gameplay (one with more death please, need that strategy). All in all I really enjoyed playing this game and I hope to see it further improved with more content including a harder difficulty and shorter recurring animations. If you’re someone who loves survival resource management sims with randomly generated events and character customisation as much as I do, then you will love spending hours on the Oregon trail. Great Work! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Totally unexpected. Didn’t expect to enjoy this game at all, but I got it because it had some good reviews. And I’ve got to say, I agree with all the positive reviews out there. Engrossing storyline and playable in chunks that you choose. Perfect for mobile.

Great game. Didn’t know what to expect when I downloaded loaded it but so far I can’t put it down you did a great job hope it stays that way great great game will recommend it

A fun update. For those people that grew up playing this game this is a fun bit of nostalgia, and the updates that they have made to the game have made it even better. Love the option to do different quests, earn money in weekly challenges to use on the trail and other things like that. It has quickly become a new favourite for me, and I have already put a few hours into it which I normally never do with mobile games. Would highly recommend! So refreshing to play a good, fun game, and since it is on Apple Arcade not having any microtransactions makes it that much better!

Good game. Super fun game

Amazing but …. I love it but I wish it had different characters for each person

Love it but want app not arcade. I want to keep playing but don’t want to pay monthly for apple arcade…I would gladly pay a one-time nominal fee to keep it :(

I LOVE IT BUT I BESEECH YOU~!. Please ~! Add a diary function, as well as the ability to write backstories for your characters. Furthermore, a playthrough that could allows us to freely pick who we want to employ, as well as their attitude would be AWESOME too! I see the beauty in the randomizer, but I think the game would be 100% more immersive this way. Personally, I love this game, but I think there are subtle and simple ways it could be improved for max enjoyment. THANK YOU for depicting various indigenous peoples and tribes in a respectful manner, it's sort of a breath of fresh air. We don't get much air time.

A really great take on the classic. This is much better than I was anticipating, a real great throwback to the classic I used to play in school, and also lots of great new additions. I'd recommend this to almost anyone

Really Fun. I remember the original version and I found this to be a really fun update. The random events seem suspiciously tuned to destroy you, but overall it was really engaging. I like finding out about my party as I went along, and ended up getting attached to the characters.

Great game. This game is fun and free. Tons of quests and fun stuff to do. I really love this game. I think you should get this game right now! 👍

Extatic. I’ve waited 25 years and died of dysentery twice waiting for the revamp of this game. They’ve done an excellent job keeping the original elements of the game as well as acknowledging the contributor First Nations people

Regression. The 1971 classic game was better. It didn’t need to make a political statement it was just a great game. This one will be forgotten.

Love the game. To any of the people who played some of the older games they changed it a lot. The game is so fun and I see myself playing it everyday. I almost died laughing when one of my best people died by tripping and breaking their arm. I recommend this game to anyone who is bored of all other games.

Oregon Trail. Keeps crashing on iMac. Like the game a lot but the game will stop in mid paly.

Addictive. I was so glad to see this game on Arcade as it was a favourite as a kid! Thank you for bringing a revamped version of a classic back! I can’t stop playing :)

I love this game. It is amazing and I’ve never found one thing wrong with it

It's pretty fun but.... The game overall was fun when i first played it until it was just mostly those games where you just manage multible things at once. On my first level everyone got sick and needed medicine and also someone broke a bone. I don't know how people just randomly break a bone on a trail and also the wagon basically explodes (as in it breaks all the time) but i'm going to try the new updates and see if you made it a bit more easier. I also heard about the "nature trail" which is literaly minecraft easy mode. I mostly want the devs to made it more easier on normal mode but not as east as nothing bad happens for 10m until a minor inconvience happens all i want is it to be a bit more balanced.

Save states not working. I’ve been 30 hours into this great game 3 times in 10 hour chucks. All three times my saved game was wiped out. It sucks putting that much time into something only for the work to not be saved. I hope they fix this because I won’t be playing until it is.

Frustrating. I like a good resource management game, but I find this one frustrating, and repetitive to play. Things were going along fine until a klutzy character shot himself and died. I restarted, but the characters available to pick from were not the same, too many bad traits, and why can’t I pick a save point to continue from? It gets too tedious. I like the concept, though.

Question. Is there multiplayer?

Classic Oregon Trail. If you like Oregon Trail you’ll like this game. A brutal survival(?) game. If you like loosing and your party dying, you’ll like this game! Edit: so I re-downloaded the game and my save data is gone… I had it saved to iCloud… guess I won’t be playing this anymore as I lost all my progress (was prev 5 stars).

Nobody asked for your PC safe space. I’m here to play Oregon trail not to be told about Native American issues.

Better than the originAl. Noice

Best game ever. So fun has so many things to do buy it buy it buy it

Perfect.. Issue with water rendering on M2 chip has been solved in this update. Thanks!

NOT AN APPLE ARCADE ORIGINAL!. This game is not an Apple Arcade original since someone I know played it over 30 year’s ago on his computer! But other than that it’s a great game.

Worth Apple Arcade subscription price itself. A much refined and refreshed version of a game I played in school and fell in with. I enjoy all the new challenges and modern touches the developers have implemented. My two young nieces love playing the game with me as well, so it’s retained it’s appeal to children which is lovely. I’ll always respect a team that remakes a classic and nails it’s execution, well done to the studio!

I love this game. I can’t tell you how much Oregon Trail reminds me of the good ol’ days, running to the computer lab at recess. Great job to the developers for breathing a bunch of life back into the game. Love it!

Great. Amazing game! Highly recommend.

You had one job. You had one simple job. Take the classic text based game and port it over to mobile.

Epic. Just focus on repair happy and medicine and ammo and pelt

I luv this game!. Elijah is epic!

Boring. I’ve played 90 min or so. It’s not difficult and it’s rather boring and repetitive.

Love it!. I really love this version of the classic Oregon Trail game. I've played a few official sequels through the years and have always enjoyed them. But with this one I've really been enjoying the new gameplay with all of the little quests along the way, and all of the different journeys you can play. I think my favorite thing about this version is all the little details that are a nod to the original game. The bits of bright green like the original Macintosh computer screens, the shape and movement of the characters on the trail, the way the hunting and fishing mini games work, etc. It's just so well done! Thank you developers for giving us such a beautiful update that is not only fun and beautiful now, but keeps the charm of the original game.

Addicting. I loved this game as a teen and playing this revamped version has me absolutely cooked. Couple bugs here and there on iPad Pro m1 but overall i love the changes and have played nearly 20 hours in the past 3 days. 5 star all day. Must try if you like the series!

It’s okay.. Based on reviews I thought this was going to be really fun but I found it kind of boring and annoying and repetitive. Everyone is constantly breaking bones and the cart always breaks so you need to rearrange stuff constantly. I found it anxiety provoking lol. Not my kind of game but I can see how some might like it.

Best Mobile Game Ever Made. The attention to detail, the soundtrack, endless story lines, minigames, unlockables and more, make this my favorite game I’ve ever played on a mobile device. The dev team did an amazing job with this game and I couldn’t recommend it more.

Best original remake. The parody was the first version I played but this remake is phenomenal 🧐

Extremely Fun Game. This game is probably the best time passer on the app. It’s a beautiful looking game and is equally fun. I started playing this game to kill some time waiting, and before I knew it 8 hours had passed! It’s inspiring me to get out in nature myself. The soundtrack is very nice as well! I hope they continue to keep adding more things and quests to the Oregon Trail journey, because I love the historical aspects of it as well and would love to keep playing!

Thank you for listening to your fans. This game has dramatic potential to be the greatest game on the App Store as the core gameplay loop allows for almost unlimited expansion. Stuff as many random events into this game as you can, the gameplay and writing opportunities for one off side characters is endless.

Best mobile game I’ve played in years. I usually think mobile games are pretty low effort cash grabs but i reaaally really enjoy my time with this one, i remember playing Oregon trail when i was younger on the school computer. But this is a lot more in depth and really good to look at, super good graphics on iPad Pro. Really immersive.

Great version of an old classic. Quality renewal of a great game I used to play when I was younger

An homage to a timeless classic. So much fun. Reminds me of the original but with lot more to do.

An amazing game. Hi there! The Oregon Trail is such a good game, but one small request. Maybe you could add child characters? They could walk with their parents and consume a 1/2 lb of food. Just something you could add! Thanks!

Infinite playability and fun!!. Like time management and strategy? This game is basically that. So many different mechanics and quests and journey’s make this game basically infinite playing, being able to customize your party, random events, journey special events! (California gold rush is my fav) most of all, the game actual lets you choose your own path allowing you to decide when to hunt, when to rescue the boys in blue, and when to pick some delicious berries! (Don’t let a paranoid person pick them. I learned that the hard way.) All in all, it will be months before you stop playing this game A L L T H E T I M E! Props to the developers for making what used to be a very repeating and difficult game such a unexplored and… less difficult at the start game. Heh.

Is this d&d. I’ve never played dungeons and dragons, but I’m assuming this is what it feels like to play it… maybe?? Haha point is, this game is such a good timewaster, especially if you like making stories for your avatars, you get very protective of them very fast and you want them to survive. Also there’s lots of side quests to complete even after completing the game. 5/5 game

Best version yet. The changes are great, and add more realism.

Weekly challenge reward. The game is great. Did my first weekly challenge, won $450 for completing. Went back to the main game and the money I won is not there! What a rip off.

awesome game.. I love it.. please put it on the Switch or another access device

Interesting. Never imagined a game of this genre is so interesting.

Good game. You should make the game warn you about low health or higiene so you will notice and stop illnesses. But overall great game

Dope. It’s dope

Great Spin on the Original. Loved this game in grade school bc it was the only game in the computer lab at school and even though it was nearly impossible to beat, it still had its charm. This is a similar storyline and gameplay (hunting is still quite a challenge but at least do-able!), with some newer updates. Side quests and challenges , additional trails, different missions to play, and the ability to unlock new materials and characters keep it interesting. The addition of Native people as guides and sources of information is a nice touch. There are definitely features that get a little tedious and repetitive, and it would be nice if there was a way to raise more characters’ randomly-assigned abilities. Definitely some room for improvement, but still enjoyable as-is.

Amazing game just a one problem. Over all this game is great for filling that time open time slot and it’s not to addicting which is great. But the one thing I would ask the developers for is more adventures to play as well as some more random events that happen on the trail but I know that I am getting ahead of my self here saying all of this because this game just got updated and it brought a lot to the game but once you complete all the adventures the game just gets so easy but really buy this game because it does inform you on what it was like on the trail more then a book would with that I would like to say this game deserves every star I am giving it.

The game seems ok…. Since I took my last history class 40 years ago, I don’t remember much about what took place during the Oregon Trail era. I do remember, however, that when I played the original game it was easier. This current version of the game is pretty difficult for me, simply because I no longer have the hand/eye coordination that I used to back in my 20s. The graphics of this game seem fairly reminiscent of the graphics I remember from the original version. According to the other reviews of this game, people seem pretty divided about the game’s contents. On the one hand, some reviewers are being referred to as racists. On the other hand, some reviewers are being referred to as being part of the “woke” culture. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, it’s really sad that everything in this country now boils down to political disagreements. It’s the mentality of “you’re either for us or against us”. I appreciate the fact that the developers put forth the effort to create an updated version of the classic game. Personally, I did not like the game, but that is simply because my hand/eye coordination is no longer good enough to play these types of games. I will just leave it at that.

Watered down and predictable. Unlike the RNG mania of the classic Oregon Trail, this game has been simplified and P A D D E D . Why do we need a 30 second in game cutscene every time we roll into town? I can’t think of any reason other than to make every game take longer. I’m not even done with my first save and I have put in 3 hours. In OT2 you could finish a game in less than an hour, by crunching. The game is slow, the good and bad events are seriously predictable (my character has broken a leg twice after leaving a town, where I got the broken leg fixed... this is my first game), and the options are severely reduced. Why the heck can’t I buy only a certain amount of something? Why can’t I stack items that COME STACKED?? As much as I love memories of OT2 — I buy pretty much every game that tries to do the same thing — I can’t recommend this because it’s torturously slow and watered down

Need more!. Great game, it needs more options, otherwise you end up playing the same game over and over. The older version had options to go to Utah and California. You had the option to start in different years which gave you different challenges on the trail, e.g. in the early years there were fewer ferries, in later years there was less game. Need a bigger selection of characters too. Sometimes the accomplishments don't register. Not sure why but I've seen every animal & bird and they don't show up in the accomplishments. There's a weather/climate error. The Blue Mountains and the Dalles do not see snow before December. Hopefully there will be updates to add to the fun of this game.

You have died of nostalgia. Simply put: best game I’ve played on mobile. This game pulls all the same strings as the original, plus a few new ones. It draws you in and makes you love a set of maybe fifty pixels as you watch them march through terrible challenges. All the while, it’s actually teaching you things, and sheds a light on real history which gives this game a sense of awe not many others lay claim to. It’s challenging, but certainly not impossible. On easy, all my travelers survived, nearly drowned twice and had a couple run-ins with disease and injury. On medium, they all technically survived though I had one ornery traveler abandon the party about 2 days from the end (doofus… I’m still bitter). On hard, 3 survived, but poor Frederick spent 3 months with broken limbs one after another, got shot once by a stray bullet, got mauled by a bear resulting in another broken arm, had a case of Typhoid caught from a fellow party member, and just when I thought his string of hardships was at an end, he died after tripping on a rock and falling under the wagon. Honestly, it felt like he had a death wish. What a great game. Kudos to all who made this happen.

Good game, except for one thing. Better design than one of the original versions I used to play on the computer. Seems the prices of items are far too high for the time period. The game takes place in 1849, yet they mention pony express which didn’t exist until 1860. I decided to try the free 30 trial of Apple Arcade to see what this game was like. Pretty good so far but it feels like the wagon breaks too easily and why aren’t the members of the wagon party traveling in the wagon. They’re mostly walking so no wonder they get tired. I’d prefer this game more if it were on console, touch screen is a bit awkward at times. Edit: I’m disappointed by the swearing in it, I was going to recommend it to a family member but not now. I thought the game was supposed to be more family friendly than that.

i love it. i’ve played this game for 22 hours total now, and i’ve beaten each of the journeys. i loved it for sure. although i wish things were a tad less repetitive. meeting the couple running away from the girls family is a nice touch but gets kind of old when you’ve played through multiple times. it would be cool if there were other interactions that happened as well. and how many times will my idiot party crush their feet under the wagon? answer: not as many times as my idiot party cuts themselves on a dirty knife. i mean it gets to the point where i don’t even want to carry the knife for gathering pelts because every ten minutes someone hurts themselves for no reason. i guess it just seems like the same stuff over and over without any good reasoning for it. i also feel like the hunting mini game is a weak point as well, i just feel like there could be a more fun or engaging way to do it, but that’s just me. overall there are things i would change sure, but i’ve played obsessively for the past few days and enjoyed it a ton anyway.

Love this game! But…. I’ve really been enjoying this version of Oregon Trail since I started playing in August, and love the additions in the last two updates. *But* there seems to be a problem with a couple of the achievements that I have been trying to get for awhile: Losing a character to cholera and being rescued by Beckwourth. I have tried many different ways to get these done, especially trying to get cholera since my characters all get dysentery or typhoid instead every time. Talked to other players about it and they’re lost too. (The shooting game does seem to have a glitch where bullets are going through some of the animals as well.) These things are the only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, I’m having a lot of fun and is the only reason I still have Apple Arcade.

Game crashes causing you to lose items. This game is fun and it keeps your attention. The only thing I have a problem with and this is a BIG problem. The game seems to crash at the worst possible times. It always seems to happen when your wagon breaks and items fall out or right after you’ve repaired your wagon and haven’t had a chance to put your items back in. When it crashes it causes you to lose the items that have fallen out of the wagon or it will crash and you will come back having lost all your most recent progress. This is my biggest issue with the game and I’m seriously thinking of just uninstalling because it is already hard enough to get said items without the game stealing them from you. This needs to be fixed ASAP!

Thoughtful Review. I’ve been playing the Oregon Trail for 30 yrs. I’ve played this game for 60 hours but now will go back to the the learning company’s 5th edition. Issues: -have to constantly watch slow animations that take forever and drive me crazy. Sooo slow. -Time limit on hunting, and there’s always game? Developers take a note from the original. -When fishing you often catch a can or a boot that was previously a fish. Really? Was the water really that polluted in the 1860’s? -Native Americans pay you for fishing and are always friendly. Really? Don’t rewrite history. -Random deaths, sickness and wagons sinking. This really drives me crazy. Bam your dead, now start over. -Women played an important role on the trail but rarely as a mountain guide for instance. And rarely/never did an entire group consist of women. Can’t rewrite history. - Bandits and thieves were extremely common on the trail but not in your game. Rewriting history again? Female bandits who can be swayed by charm or threat of fighting? Really? -My groups starving but I cant shoot the herd of buffalo im passing. They allow you to in my words take pics. Hello! We’re starving I’m gonna hunt constantly! In closing, developers you should have just cleaned up this masterpiece for 2022. The changes you made were unnecessary. When you restore a painting you don’t change the color of the flowers. Respectfully,

Great game fatally flawed by item deletion glitch. I was at the very end of the trail. Everyone is at 100% health, about 800 lbs of food on board, $444 in money, looking good. Then there was a routine wagon maintenance issue. One section of the wagon fell apart, the spot where my money was. So, as I had done a dozen other times, I tapped “repack” so I could use a toolbox to fix the broken wagon section and repack my coins. But instead, the game deleted my coins, then exited the game. When I came back my coins were gone but I was able to patch up the wagon and finish the trail like 20 seconds later…with $0. Later I was playing the “Tall Tales” story, which is a race to see who can get the most pelts. The same issue happened again during this story and I lost 5 pelts. The race came out a draw and I lost Rock Paper Scissors to lose…because of this stupid glitch. Took a 5 star rating to a 2 star. I’m playing on Iphone XR

Great Game, can do more!. I loved Oregon Trail when it first came out on the iPod Touch 2. I’m pretty sure it was removed from the app store, but I always wanted to come back and play it because I was never able to beat it. To be fair, I was young and never bought food/repair items... my mistake. Coming back to this game older, I actually understand the concept of thinking— so now I can plan out everything. I’ve completed about 50% of the game — but I see that there’s an update, so that’s bound to change. People are complaining that it’s too hard, and if I had to be honest... I beat the original campaign pretty easily — the only ones that are intended to give you a hard time are the ones labeled “hard,” but after two tries you should get the basic idea of what you need to do. :-) Nature trail was so easy I used it to fall asleep because it was calming... lol I applaud GameLoft for this face lift + revamp of Oregon Trail, it’s amazing. There are a few bugs which detract from the game, but hopefully in this update they’ve been fixed. I think more could be done with the characters — maybe more designs or children? I remember the OG game had children and were useless, it’s a great added challenge lol.

An unforgiving masterpiece. When you first go into the game, you assume things are just fine and dandy, but it stays true to the original Oregon Trail game, and right when you settle in you are faced with dozens of problems. Moral dilemmas, broken bones, low morale, dying oxen, cholera, and of course, dysentery are all problems you will face when playing this game. The variety of challenges and mini-stories along with some educational factor in that you can look at topics relating to achievements and animals really makes the game interesting. Not to mention it has some pretty sad, funny, and heartwarming moments that make the game a rollercoaster. This game gets the legendary 6/5 but I can’t put that many stars. Bravo.

Excellent experience for the classroom!. As an English teacher who incorporates history into my curriculum, I enjoy utilizing this Oregon Trail game in my classroom. Students love naming the characters, making choices, and witnessing the consequences of their decisions. The graphics are vivid and aesthetically pleasing, and the music is upbeat and pleasant. The vocabulary is excellent! To prepare my students, I have them research synonyms for game vocabulary on a worksheet I created. However, I would love to see more save slots offered. Since I teach 5 classes, I would like to save gameplay for each one. Unfortunately, I can only save 3 games with the current game setup. In conclusion, I still highly recommend this game!

Great Re-Invention!. I love this game! I picked up the original online and thought- this is a bit simple! But then I found out it was on Arcade, and discovered my new favorite game! It includes perspectives from all sorts of people who were impacted by the Oregon trail, including tribe members, people of all races+gender, and people with different backgrounds! For example, one person might be an emigrant, while another has lived at Fort Kearny all their life and joined in along the way! My party is all women, and I love the fishing and packing minigames! This whole game is a beautiful, puzzling, and modernized version of a classic game, and I would recommend this to anyone!

This is not the trail. You are looking for. Way too much extra garbage to deal with. None of the classic gameplay. The tutorial is over long and unnecessary. The addition of a poorly designed story and talks and all that extra garbage detracts from the immersion. The random party roll of “pick your characters” is beyond annoying and breaks the immersion even worse than the “story”. What single family wagon was ever made of five adults from so many different walks of life? A wagon was usually a single family group of parents, children, and maybe some close relationships. Fast travel points? Seriously? One of the points of the game is if your party dies you fail and have to start over again. Stripped everything good about the game and ruined the beautiful simplicity of the original. This update is a blatant attempt at pandering. Hard pass on this P.O.S.

Good but.... It needs improvement. I remember playing this in the 90’s growing up. It was tough but I remember being able to sell items. It would be better if we could sell items for money or if the traders offered money. I know you can sell pelts but every time I try to get pelts it’s says that I didn’t get very many because I don’t have a knife. And I can’t figure out how to get one. There is never a knife available in the stores or for trade. Also the hunting is way too hard. I know it’s not supposed to be easy but there is no way to aim properly and the animals move way too fast so I end up wasting all my bullets. A drag and release control would be better. It would also be nice to stack like items in the wagon too. Other than these things I like this game.

Great Game. I really enjoy this. People are saying it’s too hard but I disagree entirely. It’s resource management and making the right decisions. Then trading for the appropriate items along the way. I do have a few suggestions, and the devs seem really responsive which is great. * More random encounters/quests. I do every quest every time and just like… some more variety would be a great addition to the game. I’ve been largely skipping quests as I’ve done them all already a dozen times on prior runs. I gave up helping Little Mary’s family after the fourth time. *Extended trails. More extensive/longer journeys for those of us who do not think the game is too hard and would love an extend version *Families/realism. I’d love to see the realism of being able to buy more than one wagon, and the characters having families that we would have to look after(kind of like the oxen but more in depth) *Larger parties/party dynamics. Bigger parties. Harder trails. Picking a leader for the party, maybe the other party members can disagree or agree. As a side note, I’d love to see more implementation of the traits. I feel, aside from ‘charming’, I rarely see them come into play.

Don’t get this game!!!!! 🗑🚮. This game is trash. There is no way to get from the beginning of the trail to the end. Most of the buttons you can’t even press unless you get all the way to the next stoping point. There is no way to control if you get sick on the journey and then you can’t get the extra points bc most the time you do end of being sick. In the hunting you can’t move easily and if you do the animal is in still not in reach of you gun because you moved an entire 90 degree angle. In fish there is never anymore than 1 or 2 fish. And only half the time do they actually need Bibles or maps to find their way they give them to you with certain characters but then most the time there just junk you carrying around. Anyway I am just say this game is just a piece of garbage that will take up space in your storage.

Just one little issue.... When playing the game its great, its not like the other ones where its just tap tap tap all day no graphics or animation, I like that we get a more entertaining visual feel in the game. Everythings pretty simple and the difficulties are fair. One thing I would suggest having changed is the party member system. You only get 3 options each, and some of us as players would prefer to customize our party as we see fit. We only get a handful of options and when we dont like them have to close the game and hope for a more favorable set of members to choose from. It would be better to allow us to make our own member picks from the full list of all possible memebers. Or at least make it a less tedious process and allow us a back or reroll option?

Love this game. One fix please!. I’ve played this game over and over. I’ve reset my progress to start from scratch a few times as well. Clearly, I love this game. There is one major annoyance, which involves using the wind wagon. If you acquire more than what you can store, and need to repack, you cannot see how many days you have left with your wagon grease. When you use a normal wagon you can see it when you repack, where you see your oxen. Without the oxen, you don’t get this information. Knowing how many days you have left is useful when repacking, because you may be able to make space by using grease. I hope this gets updated!

Love But Needs A Few Changes. I have played almost 48 hours in the past 2-3 weeks. I simply love it. I have completed all of the journeys EXCEPT Oregon or Bust and it’s driving me crazy. It’s always when I’m in the Blue Mountains or JUST coming down from the Blue Mountains! The changes I would like to be made: -Be able to choose the characters you want vs a limited selection. -Be able to choose the characters characteristics. -Wagon health statistics -Ox health statistics - If at all possible~ be able to win money or items in mini games that can go towards one of the journeys your on. If I was able to chose only brilliant, neat, athletic, and optimistic people- I feel like I could finally win the Oregon or Bust journey. I have even killed people off to make it easier when you start getting low on supplies. But for now, I will continue restarting the game each time I’m in the Choose Character start menu until I get the perfect set up- Physician, Carpenter, Trapper and Banker. Lol. And they all have to have the best characteristics! So it may take me a few dozen more resets to get that…

A really awesome game, expands upon original game. If you grew up playing the original Oregon Trail games, then you’ll love this version. As much as I loved the original, this updated version is a hundred times better. There’s so much more depth to the story, more details and quests. It goes beyond “Alice has dysentery”, and has many stories and characters introduced. As you play, you unlock more quests you can do, items, characters, etc. There’s also weekly challenges you can do, so basically you will always have either the main game or side quests/challenges to do. There’s also mini games! Basically, I highly highly recommend as you will never get bored.

This has potential. I loved Oregon Trail as a kid and seeing this I was so excited. While different or updated from what I played I love the concept but find it a little confusing. I want to start a trail with my own people but I don’t hate how it is. The one thing I find annoying is that it’s super repetitive and everyone breaks a leg or arm. Your cart falls apart super fast no matter what wagon you choose and you money doesn’t go far at all. I know the trail was hard and I don’t mind a difficult game but I would love to reach Oregon from start to finish not half way there. I liked how that was in the old game and also picking when you left. Like I said it’s new and has potential. I hope the game devs will listen to the players as they advance this game because it could be amazing. It just needs a little more work and suggestions to get there.

Cool updates, but art inconsistency is a little distracting. This game is the cream of the crop for Apple Arcade, and learning how to play and tackle its challenges- even more with the fairly frequent updates- is a lot of fun. My only current issue is that in more recent updates the art style for character portraits has changed pretty drastically, and it’s somewhat distracting, especially during conversations where old and new characters interact. The original portraits are quite lovely and match the rest of the game beautifully, but if the current artist has a different style, perhaps updating them might improve consistency?

Some ideas!. I’ve logged about 40 hours of this game so far and as nostalgic as it is, I forgot how repetitive is was. I’ll continue to play in hopes you implement some new game play and ideas :) Im going to share mine! -Add the option to choose to make hardtack to free up room in the wagon, please! -A “repair all” feature or at least not having to tap each time. -CUT SCENES 🙃can we please add a FF button? Honestly, I’d even pay a buck ninety-nine for that feature. Or just make it go faster? -Better Aim! I’ve not leveled any character more than a 4 in that discipline so idk if that’s the max or what but definitely add maybe a sharpshooter/hunter character or something? -How about making the tin can (when fishing) into a craft able item? Make it into a coffee can and you can stack 4 coffee inside or something like that? -SQUIRRELS! Those little buggers drive me nuts lol maybe add an option in for a character to “set” the traps on screen by dragging and tapping x amount max and whatever squirrels run into those traps are considered meat gained! I’m sure I’ll have more but I do love this game! Please consider updating!

It looks so pretty☺️. I have not downloaded the game yet, but I have been reading comments and watching advertisements, and, say what you will, HAVE YOU SEEN THE FORE AND BACKGROUND ART??? It’s gorgeous. I will be updating this after I download. -Update: this game is absolutely beautiful, a more advanced and detailed version of the original game. With more choices you feel more in control of the game, which differs greatly from the classic, where you watch a wagon go along and choose where you want to go. It’s not very..exciting. The concept of including more accurate details regarding to historical facts is by far one of the best improvements, and I am so happy that Gameloft was able to improve one of the most well known games. (In conclusion the game was really good-I couldn’t put it down to update my review)

😍😍😍😍😍. Hello!!! You are way too amazing to be true! I love this amazing game developers! This game is absolutely stunning! I love the graphics! I do have a few suggestions though. Maybe if you find an abandon covered wagon you can add it to yours and multiply your space! Also I would love if you could have more things to give moral. Also I wasn’t able to eat the meat to get moral so if you would let me know why that’s happening that would be great! (quick note that I did have full health on all my characters while I tried to eat it). My dad said when he played it on the apple computer 2 it was just like this game! You guys have been doing an amazing job! Thank you for this amazing game! Keep up the good work BEST DEVELOPERS EVER!! 🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😁

Fun and harder with some annoying traits. This is harder than the old game and the graphics are really nice. The annoying thing is there doesn’t seem to be a way to skip the tutorial at the beginning of every new start. Nor is there much selection on characters. I miss being able to take along a doctor. You can’t rest anywhere but stopping points. I didn’t even pay attention to the woke nonsense at the beginning. History happened quit trying to rewrite it. People of all kinds took land from each other including the natives. Most of the people traveling the trail in a wagon were families. I’m wondering if the developers didn’t bother with that because they were afraid of the new definition of family. Getting ready to delete because I’m annoyed with it already.

Awesome. Great game! I love playing this when I am bored or in a long car ride, and I like all of the things you can do. I have a few suggestions, first of all, I think you should have more then four to a party, I would probably like 4 to 8 people, it would make it so that you can start with more stuff, have more people to do stuff, and you won’t lose if 4 people die. Second of all, I think there should be kids too, either they start off, or are born along the way, lastly, I would love it if there were wagon trains, maybe of 2 or 3 wagons, so you don’t have to rely on just your wagon, but still have more responsibility. You don’t have to listen to me, but these are just things I would like to see and wanted to mention.

Love it! Some ideas!. I absolutely LOVE THIS GAME❤️❤️❤️ But I have some awesome ideas to make the game even better!!! 1:, you should let people create their own character like what their characters hair looks like, the clothes, and more!! 2:, You should add babies or kids👧 as an option for a character. 3:, You should make relationships in the game like one character could be friends with another character, or have 2 of the characters love each other and either get married on the trail or when they reach Oregon City! 4:, You should add a Mormon trail like to Utah, and add a trail about your life in Oregon like control what you do with new characters!! 5:, You should let little Mary live. I gave the poor girl medicine yet she still died! 6:, MORE QUESTS!!!!!!! Please add 1 of my suggestions to the next update! It would mean the world to me!🌎 love your game and always will❤️❤️❤️ Your biggest fan(the girl who’s going to write and star in the Oregon trail movie(based on your game but my characters!!!real life)) Lola✌️

All around great, just also frustrating. This game is fantastic for the most part. It’s formatted exactly how it should be, it runs smooth, it never crashes or lags. It comes down to the gameplay for me. It’s frustrating. And not in the way that the original one was. It feels like you’re playing a game that wants to screw you over. And I’m at a point in my life where that’s the last kind of game I want. I had fun for one journey, and put probably 2 hours into it over the course of a few days, and then it threw every bit of disease, snake bites, and wagon damage at me all at once. To me, it’s not challenging, it’s just punishing. And I don’t want to be punished anymore. I think you all did a great job, I just think I’ve evolved as a person since playing this when I was a kid

A Feel-good Roguelite. This is one phenomenal remake! Very polished, very well designed, and just challenging enough. Sounds great, looks even better, the balance is on point. The writing is a bit dry, and in a game this text-heavy you will notice eventually. But perhaps that was a choice, they may have wanted dialogue to feel more like a book by Fenimore Cooper. If you’re into survival RPG games or roguelikes, this might hit the spot. Not as hard as Darkest Dungeon, or as dramatic as Banner Saga, but it can still be cruel to you in funny ways, and you do get attached to the little pixelated dudes. The historical references they put in all over the places can be amusing, too. 9 Dysenteries out of 10.

Amazing, versatile game. I used to love playing Oregon Trail OG on my computer when I was in 5-6th grade. Now, with this app, they’ve expanded it wildly into a whole experience with different characters with different personalities (and the possibility to name them), all sorts of mini adventures you can learn to master, and graphics that switch from the more familiar pixellated forms to animated graphics at certain points to see the wider picture. Every party I create I get invested in way too fast, lol. You can try to follow certain broader goals/quests over your games or you can stay simple (I’m def in the latter category). So yeah, the larger quests aren’t for everybody, but they’re easy to ignore if you want to. I’m really incredibly impressed by how good and nearly ad-free this free app is.

Can’t wait for the next update. I absolutely love this game ! Love the updated histories and just everything about this game is A1! It’s one of the few games where I look forward to each update and love to read all the new things available ! Absolute favorite. Not difficult at all I feel like all the people dying repeatedly are either too young to get the strategy aspect or just…not too bright lol it’s pretty easy to make it all the way through I don’t think I haven’t made it not even once but there’s so many journeys and trails that it’s fun to do them all. I hope next update has more journeys for different experiences! Maybe even include a pony express experience collecting letters on the trail and riding them where they need to go!

Excellent game. I rarely leave reviews, but this game deserves every bit of 5 stars. It’s got depth, it’s got thrills, it’s got humour, and it’s just plain fun. As a member of a Native tribe, I am so appreciative that the developers have made playable Native characters! All of the historical oddities in this game are all so fun too because they’re based in history. The amount of content in the game is fantastic too. My one and only piece of advice or suggestion would be to add in the Santa Fe trail! That trail was a massively important trail even before Oregon and it has just as storied of a lore surrounding it as the other famous American trails. Thanks devs for making this latest Oregon Trail instalment one for the history books!

Hunting frustrations. The mechanics for hunting on my iPad are beyond frustrating. This should be an enjoyable and challenging task which with practice could be mastered. Instead it is erratic, random and extremely frustrating. To have a target literally right in front of you and be unable to maneuver the character into the correct orientation is maddening. I’ve had successes, but far more failures, and there seems to be no logic to either. I enjoy this game for the challenge of surviving the trip. Improving the hunting would be a great help. I also don’t see how a wagon should be swept away in less than 2 feet of water with 70% of the contents lost, and even the death of a traveler. I don’t read the dialogs because I don’t play games to be indoctrinated. The fun is fading fast, please help!

Great, fun, and educational FREEDOM NEXT?. Doesn’t deserve the poor reviews from neckbeards. A great game, updated over 30 years since the original so get over it. Lessons that should be taught to every generation. Sorry but the text based typing “BANG” isn’t going to appeal to young people today. It’s Oregon Trail—in color. Love the pixel graphics. Developers— Any chance we would ever get an update and relaunch for that great forgotten gem FREEDOM? Freedom was made by the same company as Oregon Trail. You played a runaway slave. Very educational, maligned game due to its controversial content, but I’ve played it and think it’s honest and engaging. Fans of the Original Oregon Trail, find Freedom! You must experience this lost gem.

Yeah it needs tweaking. I was reading reviews about it being “ToO hArD” and I was like “psh, whatever, I beat Sonic the Hedgehog II on the original Sega Genesis when I was 9, how hard can this be?” Well guess what. It’s freaking hard. But the nature adventure one is way too easy. The gap between medium and easy is kind of crazy, actually. I imagine playing one of the hard levels (never attempted) would just be the entire party immediately dying of dysentery while the oxen get mauled by bears, and then the device it was being played on explodes, then I die of dysentery irl, and then my house broken into and all of my meat and flour would get stolen. I mean I like the game, but I think the difficulty needs to be tweaked a lot, because it’s not fun otherwise (on medium). I never realized how much I took that for granted playing other games. I will say, the music is phenomenal! Beautiful soundtrack and great background art. I like the character dynamics too...although can a missionary really be kind and slack at the same time? Or a farmer be frail? That’s also something that could be reconsidered. I know I just complained a lot, but I’m literally just about to start a new nature game so it can’t be that bad. I loved Oregon Trail as a kid so I was happy to see this.

Amazing and Heavily Nostalgic!. Played through the night the first time! It was amazing! And will keep playing! Reminds me of the days in middle school playing the old version with nothing but green text. Only thing I’d wish there could be is the option to customize the character build, at-least in easy mode so i can test party builds, Or just play as my friends who also love this game when we where kids and always put eachother in the game. I like the idea of putting us in our usual class and attributes with characters that atleast kind of look like is i understand there’s limitations. Thank you again though great game!!

Newest update came with a lot of glitches. I love this game, and I love many of the features that the newest update promised, however, the glitches that came with it are making the game almost impossible to play. So many items randomly disappear from my wagon, from gold to medicine to pelts. It’s tough when I hunt to have pelts to cross the river, just to have them vanish with no explanation. Also, since the update, the grazing stops for the ox haven’t been working. If one appears on the map and I select it, it just never appears and the selection for the next stop just pops up. I honestly really love this game, but I will not be playing it until these glitches are fixed. It’s a bummer 😥

Needs a few tweaks. I'm annoyed that if you run out of clothes and don't luck out with a bathtub camp, you can't restore your hygiene until you reach a fort. And then someone gets dysentery, and then someone else, and then they're all dying. Do they really just throw out their clothes when it gets dirty? Why isn't "wash" an option when you reach the settlements along with "rest", just take a day or whatever and then you have a fighting chance against dysentery. Most of these settlements are on rivers and would ostensibly have water available. And also annoying that you can't pay to sharpen your hunting knife and tools at the blacksmith at the forts. In fact, so many items are treated as "disposable" one use items, such as books, knives, tools, harmonica, clothes... it's weird because people back then would have taken care of these items to be reused and shared. I know this is a game and the developers were trying to keep it simple. I just find it bizarre that you need to stay clean to be healthy but you can only clean in very specific ways. Maybe they can reject drinking mosquito water but take a quick bath in it? I don't know. Still, I've been playing it. So that's something. Three stars!

Has potential to be great. Pros fun design easy to play on phone reminiscent of original game Cons Money: is neither historically accurate nor consistent. For example 175 lbs of flour is about half the price of the small wagon etc. Everything is prohibitively expensive Wagon space: Bullets are sold in boxes of 50 but if you have a box of 12 and another box of 7 you cannot combine them Trading: way too expensive so almost no way to trade, also would be good to be able to trade along the way not just as major land markings also would be to to be able to offer what you don’t need to trade Hygiene: nice idea but they lose hygiene way too fast and you should be able to for example lose a day along the trail to stop and wash (that popped up maybe once but that’s it) Stopping along the trail: would be better if you could stop and rest when you want to Knife: where on earth do you get a knife keep skinning these pelts without a knife but you can’t buy a knife (maybe I’ll get one if I play longer) Biggest distractions are: the money the ability to combine like items in a wagon up to a certain capacity for example 50 bullets/175 flour/200 meat Trading But keep working on the game and it will be great

Phenomenal. This is an incredible adaption, I cannot put this game down. I never write reviews, so this is a big deal for me! The graphics, relaxing music, resource management system, and unpredictable random events, make this an utter joy to play. Plus I think I’m learning some things?? Thank you for more accurately representing what the Westward expansion really was (an invasion). This is a much more redeemed & thought out version of the original, and attempts to decenter the myths/lies many of us were taught as children. *Please ignore the ~triggered~ racists in the reviews.* Thank you for giving me so many hours of fun and nostalgia, producers! I would love to see future updates with new items/classes/skills/maps— so if y’all got some extra time... 😏😏😏

history made fun - representation done right. My partner told me about this new apple arcade game that was called Oregon Trail, and I laughed and asked if her characters died of dysentery, because that’s the only thing I knew about the original. She said she had just lost a character to dysentery, so the humor immediately subsided (RIP Sissy). I wasn’t interested in playing until she told me about the disclaimer Apple put in about reworking the game with Native American scholars to offer the native experience in the midst of this western migration/invasion. I am pleased with Apple’s efforts to offer greater representation in what was already a classic staple in video game history and bring it to mobile devices!

not bad at all.. this game is fun.... I dont know what else to say. not only is it fun, but as someone who is interested in the original game, and the topic itself, its also educational. throughout the game you collect these journal pages that teach you about the Oregon Trail. these are addicting to collect and fun to read. there almost like rewards or achievements that teach you real life things. This game has also revamped a lot of stuff. for instance, they added a new form of play called journeys. these are brew ways to play that i find enjoyable. there are also weakly challenges or journeys that keep me play each week. there are some tiny problems I have with the game that keep it from that 5 star, but its not huge. I recommend this game.

It’s a great update to the classic game but needs some tweaks. Overall, it’s a fantastic game, fun, and engaging. Love the real history facts put into the game and the handling of Native American history. Some convenience tweaks it needs are: an ability to save the game at any point rather than save points because of frustrating data loss. It’s hard to learn when exactly you have to reach the save point and then you can’t leave the game whenever you need to. Also, an ability to quit a game and start over. This game has frustrating elements such as spawn points and when not enough spawn for you to get the achievement, you have to play the entire trail before trying again, which leads to burnout. This is a third thing. If you’re going to make something an achievement, like the Peoria party, don’t make whether enough members spawn for you to meet them be a random chance. That is maddening. Thanks for making this update to this game.

Wonder-filled storytelling! Daisy is a survivor.. What a great game. My first trip and halfway 3 of my pioneers died all at once of starvation. Only Daisy was left. Alone. With a wagon, ox, and little else. She stumbled into town on her last leg. The other was broken. Exhausted, starving, and with dysentery she survived. Couldn’t go back. Could only go on. At the 75% point her last ox died. She had no one to send for help. So she waited. And waited. And waited. The first stranger offered food. She passed. And waited a long while more. All getting weaker. Finally a family came and sold her an ox. She kept going and made it! Daisy may need to be treated for PTSD and trauma. I LOVED playing and highly recommend this game.

Fairly arcadey and can't decide if it wants to be retro modern. Years ago there was an abysmal iPhone release of the Oregon trail where characters could be attacked and carried off by.... eagles. Thus the bar was set pretty low. This go around, The Oregon Trail comes in with some heavy sim elements like health/stanima/hygeine/morale bars. Just like the real life Oregon Trail, settlers simply packed a one-time use Harmonia to up their morale, or were rewarded $20 in a chance encounter with a woman running from a bounty hunter. To break the endless looping walk animations, players can click on random wildlife gain experience. Paths determine events like berry picking or hunting or campsites which are then unlocked for your next adventure. I seem to recall at the Oregon Trail Muesem in Baker City this exact same plight about unlockable map features and perils of missing clicking on a white buffalo. There's not much to be learned here other than actual place names. The audio is pleasant, with spaghetti western overdriven guitars and midized banjo plucks. Graphically, it's a miss-mash of pixelated art but never fully embracing it to illicit the infamous Apple IIe version or even the black and white Mac version. Overall, the game is sleepy, best played to pass the time on a car ride or flight, but a bit too slow paced to be too entertaining and severely lacking in historical context.
