Whispers of a Machine is a Sci-Fi Nordic Noir that tells the story of Vera, a cybernetically augmented special agent tasked with investigating a string of murders. These brutal killings obscure a sinister truth, as Vera soon finds ties to a group of fanatics committed to creating an AI superintelligence — a pursuit outlawed for nearly a century.
Complicating things, a great loss from Vera's past comes back to haunt her, making her question her own sanity and everything she stands for.
As an agent of the Central Bureau, Vera is equipped with an advanced nano-substance called Blue. This rare and sought-after technology allows her to develop superhuman abilities adapted to her psychological mindset.
Choose your playstyle and utilize these augmentations to investigate, gather information, and solve puzzles with multiple solutions.
Will Vera’s unique blend of skills and intuition be enough to solve the case, or will she discover that things are more ambiguous than they seemed? In this emotionally gripping story with existential twists and multiple endings, Vera's actions will have monumental consequences not only for herself, but for all of humanity...
- INVESTIGATION, AUGMENTED: Will Vera approach situations with a more empathetic, analytical, or assertive style? Your choices will impact her augmentations and subsequent puzzle solutions.
- A POST-AI FUTURISTIC DYSTOPIA: Immerse yourself in a realized world of beautifully hand-drawn pixel art design and gorgeous settings influenced by the Nordics.
- POINT-AND-CLICK INNOVATION: A groundbreaking entry to the point-and-click adventure game genre by the experienced developers of Kathy Rain and The Samaritan Paradox.

Whispers of a Machine Comments & Reviews 2026
Amazing work. Whispers of a machine and Kathy rain are the best cell phone games I’ve ever played . Not only are they fun & challenging . The stories are compelling as well as the characters !
Highly Recommend. I had a great time with this game. Total playtime was probably about 15 hours or so to complete by my estimate. Definitely worth the price in my opinion. I think the difficulty was perfect. I was able to complete it without looking at any hints, although there was definitely a handful of spots which made me have to put take a step back and reassess the situation in the game for an idea of what to do to progress. I think that’s where the fun comes from in this game. I highly encourage players not to jump to quickly to look at hints. I promise you that if you think logically and revisit the areas that are open to you that no puzzle was obscure enough to need a hint to pass. Pro tip: You can speed up traveling across the screen to enter a different area by double tapping on the area or door you’re trying to enter. It’ll teleport your player there instead of waiting for the animation of her walking all the way to the area. Didn’t learn that until I was nearly done with the game.
Really great non woke point and click. A really fun little point and click adventure with great replay ability. The writing was fantastic, it has a really interesting conservative vs progressive ideology narrative and you can choose your own adventure (THANK YOU writers for staying neutral and not forcing us to take the leftist path, very refreshing) Overall highly recommended for point and click fans, the puzzles were just hard enough and I throughly enjoyed playing.
Engaging story, average puzzles. Yet another fantastic modern point-and-click along the lines of Wadjet Eye Games. The story is suspenseful and fast-paced, never boring. The characters and world are unique. The moments of humor are welcome in a serious situation. My only complaint is that a few of the puzzles are laughably absurd, but a quick walkthrough visit fixed everything.
Please fix. YOUR GAME IS AMAZING, it’s so much fun but there is a problem my save file gets corrupted it says there was a script error but then I can’t play my safe file anymore this happens after I leave the recycling center and talk to the kids but after I stop talking and walk away at glitches and crashes when I try to go back and pull it up and it says script error.
Don’t rate a good game 1 star cause your stuck. How is that the games fault? It’s supposed to be a puzzle to figure out on your own - it’s s point n click, it’s always been this way. And I have the energize power too and I was able to get past the part your talking about. I’d help you out, but rating a game a bad score because you can’t figure out a puzzle that is meant to challenge you is irrational. So I guess you’ll have to figure it out yourself.
Old school. The graphic is are very old school. I feel I wasted money on this one.
Amazing. At the top of what p&c games are all about! You should definitely play it and multiple times to see the different game play styles/choices.
A Rarity. This game is excellent. I was immediately swept up into the story and spent a lot of time guessing who the killer was only to be surprised in the end. I played the main character pretty even keeled, but the options are there to play differently. I wish there were more games like this. Very fun and entertaining. About 3-5 days of gameplay depending on your free time.
Original and ambitious but too difficult. Pros: - interesting story with ambitious back-story - cool mix of features to play with as the main character - fun characters to interact with Cons: - some parts are too difficult. I play lots of similar games and this is the first time I had to check the solution online multiple times. And the solutions would have been too complex to figure out. Hints or more balanced difficulty throughout the game would help a lot - some controls are annoying to deal with even on a big iPhone Overall I would recommend it but be prepared to check for some solutions online. I will definitely check out the next games from the team.
Great game. Fun story, nice mystery, and no encountered bugs or ads. Creative play style and skills too.
Would highly recommend to any type of player! *devs please make more*. This game is just all around so well thought out, executed, and fun until the very last second. I love Kathy Rain just as much so I wasn’t surprised when I finished and all I kept wanting to do was replay this game. Trust me when I say you won’t regret the purchase. I don’t leave reviews often, but this game was incredible and deserved one. Developers, I love all your point and click adventure games, I’m begging you to please make more lol By reading the reviews and chatting with other fans, it’s very clear I’m not the only one looking forward to anything you put out. Would love to know if we can expect any p&c games in the near future! Thank you for all your hard work.
No help.. I was loving this up until getting hopelessly stuck at Lennart’s murder. There is no hint system. All online walkthroughs have other powers that allow them to solve this easily. I have “energize”, which is apparently useless- it said it retracted the gears, but nothing changed. Pipe is useless. For hours I’ve been trying everything I have on everything there is, to no avail. Too bad I’ll have to give up due to a complete lack of help- there’s not even a help email on the website.
Predictable, short, and crashy.. Total game took 6 hours or so—add an hour if you include all the crashes and restarts (M1 iPad Pro). The story is predictable and bland. The puzzles were generally pretty obvious even to this point-and-click novice—which I suppose could also mean they are well designed, but I never felt especially clever in solving them. Without the crashes, I suppose it would bump it up to three stars. The world-building seems interesting, but there are only gestures in the direction of that interesting world, and I don’t get the sense there’s much depth to its development beyond those gestures… I dunno—if you like your games “just okay” I suppose you could do worse. It passes the time.
Solid point and click, thought provoking. This game is a solid point and click with a good story. Some of the mechanics (when it’s time based) are irritating on mobile just because the ui is so small, it can be hard to click the right spot, so definitely died a few times in those scenes due that. Hah! But, the game was fun and had me thinking about deeper things for sure. The only other bummer is I pegged one of the antagonists from the second I met them; would have liked a bit more of a mystery, but the story is good and well written all the same, even if it was somewhat predictable.
Classic point and click adventure with a twist. I enjoyed playing this adventure game so much! All of the puzzles were organic and I also loved the augmentation abilities. It really added another layer of gameplay that didn’t deter from the story at all. Good characters, though I really wish we got to see more of the backstory between Vera and Alex. It would have made the decision at the end of the game that much more powerful and conflicting. I would play the sequel if one was released! Thank for making this game. Not many out there with this level of detail. Great graphics as well. It was just enough detail to be beautiful, yet it still had that 90s retro look to it as well. I will always continue to support games like this for the rest of my life.
Branching powers system is really novel!. Greatly enjoyed this game and story. It’s a bit tough at times, but that’s a benefit more than it is a detriment.
Poor Execution. Severely disappointing in contrast with other games of this type. No real challenge or cleverness in the design. Too much focus on gimmicky gadgets & skills. Very repetitive tasks and boring trial & error vs thinking & puzzle aspect. Trying to make a strictly linear game but with only one action to progress in a somewhat open world design like this is a result for disaster. Not even halfway through and already bored. Rarely do I get this bored with games or disappointed enough to write a review.
A Classic point and click adventure game, superb!. I really enjoyed this game, very immersive. It also has replay value. I usually don’t replay a game but this, will be my exception. Everything is top notch about this game. It has a great story and seems to me this game was made with care and attention to all details. Good job!
Awesome! Love different endings and choices change things. Great job! No flaws I could see. A map would have helped. A few things I wanted to ask I couldn’t cuz it wasn’t in the book. One the best of these types of games I’ve played for awhile.
Great game worth the $. I really enjoyed this game. It’s pretty long and challenging without being too hard. The storyline was very interesting and the music was cool.
SUP-2447: Crasher blocks progress. This isn’t a review but since I submitted a support request a month ago and never got a response, I’m posting a comment here. I loved “Kathy Rain” and so far I’ve enjoyed this game. However I hit a bug that crashes the game every time, even after reloading my saved game. (Slight spoiler so stop reading if you haven’t played yet.) In the junk yard I entered the refrigerator. The game crashes with: “Null pointer referenced ‘room_afterFadeIn’”. I’m happy to help troubleshoot further if the developer wants to respond. See SUP-2447.
An incredible point and click. If you are interested in point and click games, this is an absolutely wonderful gem. Just realized it’s the same people who made Kathy Rain (also another epic point and click). Voice acting is spot-on and really immerses you in the game. Story is intriguing. “augmentation” system is nifty. Puzzles not overly difficult to figure out. It’s insane to me that more people haven’t rated/played this game. Worth every penny, I would’ve payed $10 and been happy. Jason
Intriguing Plot and Creative gameplay. Whispers of a Machine is perhaps one of the best adventure games I have played in a while. The gameplay is creative in the way that the decisions alter Vera’s augmentations. Yes, the graphics may look “pixelated,” but they appear beautifully hand drawn in my opinion. Kathy Rain was a good game too. Please release more games like this, or even subscriptions/episodes.
Seems to have a crashing bug. Game is good but both the iPad and Mac version have a habit of crashing and loosing progress. I actual bought the iPad version because I thought it would be more stable I was wrong. But it was only a couple of bucks and the game is good from what I can tell so I’m not going to try to get a refund. My guess is if you can play this on windows that will most likely not result in as many crashes.
Don’t buy on iPad Pro and newer devices! Not supported!. Very disappointed that the developers released this for all devices when the game is not even supported on all devices. Resoltutions 16:9 and up such as the iPad Pro have issues with the graphics being out of focus, not sharp, and just doesn’t look good overall. Not an enjoyable experience!
Crashes/buggy. Crashes too frequently to be enjoyable. Wish I could receive a refund, don’t waste your money
Great game! Totally worth every penny. This is a great game! You won’t regret buying it - the voice acting alone makes it worth the price!! It is very fun and you won’t want to stop playing to see what happens next !!! Couldn’t be happier I believe I’m about half way through that’s the only bad part cuz I don’t want it to end lol
Gem of a new adventure game on iOS. I’m an old school point and click adventure game fan, and though I’m happy to see classics like Broken Sword and Day of the Tentacle ported over to iOS, they honestly just don’t play as well as they do on the PC. Moving around is a pain, choosing actions is a pain. Whispers surprised me by remaining point and click but streamlining the gaming process beautifully so that you’re actually focused on the game and not how cumbersome it is to play. Which is great, because it’s an engrossing game. Investigating as Vera is a lot of fun, and it does feel like an investigation rather than a spooky thriller, which a lot of detective games try to be. I want to solve mysteries, not tiptoe around fearfully. I just wish the empathetic options (you gain different abilities depending on your responses to people, which gives you completely different ways to solve puzzles) weren’t quite so...sappy. There’s a point where you try to determine what a piece of graffiti depicts, and the empathetic option is “two flowers hugging”. You can be a good people person without stepping right out of Sesame Street, y’know. In any case, definitely worth the purchase!
Love your games. First off, thank you for releasing your games on iOS!!! I prefer playing on my iPad to laptop these days. I bought both Kathy Rain and this game and binged on both. I love the art styles of the games and the gameplay. To other lurkers, if you like solving mysteries, these point and click games are worth your while!
Keeps Crashing (iPad Mini 6th Gen). This game really is PHENOMENAL! Only reason for my 4 ⭐️ My iPad mini 6th Gen (2021 Model) is up to date with iPad OS 16.5 This game is constantly crashing, it’s a spontaneous bug - I can’t track it, so I can replicate it, but here is what I have identified: • Crashes as soon as I continue a saved game or start new game • Crashes if I play (a saved game or new game) within 10 minutes • Crashes if I play (a saved game or new game) within 2 minutes • Crashes if I play (a saved game or new game) an hour later or so • During first crime scene, after you scan the victim with smart mode, as soon as you tap the scan tool with the victim’s bio (the scan tool called Karl) the game will crash A very sporadic bug. I know it’s 2023 and this game was released awhile ago, but PLEASE FIX. This issue ruins what I would describe an immersive *experience* of being a future detective. APPLES -> VISION PRO: I actually want to play this game on my vision pro when it buy it, the Vision Pro has eye tracking (i use my eyes to make selections) and finger pinching gestures (my forefinger and thumb touch each other) and this is how we interact with apps - this game will be right at home. HERE ARE MY TROUBLESHOOTING ATTEMPTS: - Rebooted my iPad - Closed out the game, then relaunched game - Uninstalled game & Reinstalled the game - Powered down iPad and turned back on iPad
Fabulous point and click adventure!. I am constantly searching the AppStore for actual point and click adventure games, not the hidden object and arcade games bizarrely classified as “adventure.” This discovery was so spectacular that I stayed up all night to finish it! The concept that distinguishes Whisper of the Machines from typical adventure games is that there are multiple solutions for the integrated puzzles and ultimately completing the game, guided by your responses to a choice-based narrative and the specific supplementary skills that you acquire. Your heroine is a homicide detective with chemical-based “augmentation technology” that gives her superhuman capabilities. “Smart scanning” helps you search for and analyze clues in the scene, like DNA. [NOTE: This is NOT a hidden object game!] You can greatly increase your strength for short periods of time, and you can monitor physiological functions of your witnesses to determine if they are lying. The additional abilities you receive are determined by whether your conversational responses skew towards assertive, analytical, or empathetic. Your role as an investigator definitely draws you into the story, which is richly written and based in a world that survived and rebuilt after an apocalyptic event. Graphics have a retro feel but are not pure pixel. The controls are intuitive and smooth. Gameplay is essentially linear and lasts about 5-6 hours. The somewhat short duration of the game and the absence of a teleportation map/device are my minor complaints. If you’re a fan of the same genre, here are my favorites that have been ported to the iPad (in no particular order): - Edna & Harvey series - Broken Sword series - Yesterday series - Enigmatis series - Broken Age - Lost Within - Runaway series - Bik: A Space Adventure - Journey Down series - Cognition series - Syberia series - Hollywood Monsters - In Fear I Trust - Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders - Bertram Fiddle series - Blackwell series - Fran Bow series - Life Is Strange - Return To Grisly Manor - Miss Fisher series - Day of the Tentacle - Deponia - Fetch: A Boy and His Dog - The Whispered Word - Nelly Cootalot and the Fowl Fleet - New York Mysteries series - Paranormal State: Poison Spring - Secret Files series - The Wolf Among Us - Lost Horizon series - Last Express - Gemini Rue - Beneath the Steel Sky - Silent Age
App keeps crashing. I was really liking how this game played but it keeps crashing after about 5 minutes of play. When I restart the game, it goes back to the beginning and I lose everything I had done previously.
Fantastic Point & Click Detective Game!. Just finished this game - highly recommended! Not many point and click adventure games that are 17+. This one has great story, superb voice acting, and good music. Some parts are challenging, but there are enough subtle hints to get you to the next step if you pay attention. I wish the game was much longer because I didn’t want it to end! My only complaint is that the game should save at the end before you get to make a decision so you can reload from there. Would love a sequel with Vera!
Awesome adventure game. Easily worth the price, wonderful adventure, long gameplay, and no in app purchases !! Please continue to support the app developers
Dope. This was dope and fun. Kinda short for my taste but I loved it
Can’t advance. I can’t get past the crime scene. It keeps telling me to go back and talk to the witness. Wasted $3.99.
Good from the get go, great till the end. After playing, I noticed Dave Gilbert’s name in the credits. That would have clued me in that this was going to be a great game and done right. A true traditional mystery point and click. ...and that it was. The augmentations are genius. On top of that, the game plays based on what you do and say, so it plays different ways with different clues and objects for different people and thus different results. You could play again and choose differently. Did I mention the augmentations are genius? You’ll find out what that means. There’s even interactive action scenes with other characters. This game is a bargain and a must play for traditional point and click lovers.
Good game, few bugs. I really liked the storyline of this game, it is very compelling. I did really like the fact that tools you receive throughout the game are based on your choices. I also enjoyed the tools that you do get in the game. For instance, the scanning tool is a very cool concept. Overall it was a great game. Although I had an overall positive experience with this game, I do have a few critiques. I did have a game save issue one time. I had closed the game out once, and when I came back I had lost progress. Also, the controls of the inventory are annoying on an iPhone bc when you try to drag them to interact, the phone backs out of the game to where you can view the current app and all other apps that are open. So you have to tap the game after almost every time you try to drag an inventory item. That is very annoying. I also am not a fan of repeating dialogue or pixel graphics (lower quality graphics) I’ve become spoiled to higher quality graphics with other P&C adventure games I’ve played. If you can get past the things I’ve mentioned, then this is a great game.
Fantastic game, horribly optimized. This game is phenomenal. The story is well written and isn’t obvious. The abilities add a special uniqueness to give you multiple play throughs without being too repetitive. The graphics are clean. It plays excellent on an iPhone 12. My only complaint is that it’s not a well optimized port: the game runs fine but it eats into your battery life like crazy. It’s be great if that could be addressed (and I tried playing on the lowest graphic setting). If you like point and click adventure games, mysteries, and a hint of sci fi, then definitely give this a shot.
WOW. What a game! I enjoyed this during my Quarantined life now killed time & fun. Pretty Hard and challenging but that made it worth it I want a 2nd part
Love!. I loved this game! It’s one of the few point and click games that have a good story line, harder to find objects, and is long. The only thing I wish it was is a tad bit longer! It reminds me of a traditional video game you’d buy on steam or a console, and I loved that it had that capability.
Mostly excellent. Very enjoyable and interesting. On the plus side it was so thoughtful and a fresh experience. On the other hand I couldn't help but think that it could have been better if they didn't do the branching. Just gave it be one longer game? I didn't really see the point is the versions of same game. I played through twice and found second time was just zipping through it. I saw two endings and found a third slightly different one on-line. I am ok with that part it's more the playing through with different abilities that I found to be more of an experiment than a good mechanism.
Not Optimized for XR.. I love Raw Fury and will get whatever they put out. I am, however, disappointed that this game is not optimized to fit the XR’s screen. Also, I’ve noticed this game greatly drains battery (five minutes of gameplay sucked 8% of my battery). I’m hoping this also can be fixed.

Stand out. There were multiple elements to this game that has it standing out from the rest. I thoroughly enjoyed the game however I was a little disappointed with certain elements (not enough to reduce the stars as it is definitely a quality game). For example, the different augs were a lot of fun although I felt they weren’t utilised enough. The scanner I thought would have been used more often and there seemed to be a constant build up of locations/characters with nothing eventuating from those interactions. The inventory wasn’t used enough either. I felt day 3-4 seemed rushed and ended so quickly. I was left wanting more however in its entirety I loved every moment of playing this game!
Wow!. Simply wow! This is one if the few times I’ve finished a game and actively give back to review it in the App Store without being asked to do it in the game. This game is great!! It has so much deity and subtle (and some obvious) changes when replayed in different ways. The augmentations change based on actions and dialogue responses - and these do change the way (especially in the last day) the character responds to events/feelings. I played through it 3 times just to try the different ways puzzles could be tackled and, from other research online, there are even other augmentation combinations I haven’t tried which give different possibilities. Great storyline, great voice acting, appropriate graphics (like little touches like breaking the police tape when going upstairs to Maja’s apartment for the first time). Most importantly I love the way potentially sticky moral questions/situations are covered so as to not ram (present day liberal lunacy especially) down our throats but we play an active role in deciding what we choose to be our self beliefs but it also gently reminds us of the “road not chosen” if we follow whichever I thought was my characters most important guiding principles. I played through multiple times, under different principles, and each was handled beautifully!! An adventure that will stand the test of time :)
Brilliant game and engaging story. I beta tested the game. And have it on steam but also bought it here. The story had me hooked with in the first few minutes. I highly recommend the game
So Far, Not So Good.... Edited: 19-06-2019 Title: So Far, Not So Good... Rating: 3 Stars Well, I got stuck... on day 3, it turns out I had to do certain things before entering the church. But because I didn’t know that (until I searched online), I entered and now it won’t let me leave or do anything else - it tells me to look around, which I did as there’s not many things to do or look at in those rooms. By the looks of things, I have to start again and I’m very, very irate about it - hence the reason for the rating drop! —————— Posted: 18-06-2019 Device: iPhone X App Version: 1.0.5 Title: So Far, So Good... Rating: 5 Stars I just purchased the app today and have been playing on and off since this morning. I’ve just woken up to day 3 - day 1 to 2 was played on and off over an 8 hour period. I’m not sure of how many days are remaining but I’m quite surprised at how long each day is and that the game hasn’t been finished within 4 hours of purchasing it (like some paid apps). I don’t really play these types of games but I have really enjoyed this one and have actually missed what was being said or going on around me, in the real world lol - I was too into the game and not paying attention to anyone. The one downfall: occasionally I miss what’s being said (automatically, without selecting anything or anyone) and it can’t be replayed, like when I select something from the notebook. It’s usually a bit too fast and disappears just as fast - I don’t think I’m missing anything important... well, I hope not anyway.
Too weird.. Not what I was hoping for at all. Waste of my $. Very odd method of play and no satisfaction whatsoever.

More fun than you would expect. The mystery is intriguing and the puzzles are decently challenging. Ideal if you like cozy mystery novels.
Worked on iPad. Hybrid of Technobabylon + Primordia. This game worked great on my iPad (fridge worked in new ver). After playing Technobabylon, Primordia, and Shardlight, I was looking for other old school scifi games. This is different style than a Wadjet Eye game but you’ll like this if you like them! This one is a hidden gem (bugfixed version), also on Steam but I wanted to play in my hammock on my iPad. Enjoy if you love old school scifi click games. TIP1: Dialogs will speed up if you tap, even mid-fade. TIP2: Double-tap an exit to warp quickly between screens, no need to walk the whole screen-width EDIT: Yes, the fridge door worked. (But you must tap on the nervous heartbeat of the two kids first)
Love, love, love. Terrific, if you love the dark mature detective feel of Kathy rain ..try this. Fabulous Scandinavian crime story theme.
Bug. Cannot open the fridge door with IPad Pro. Cannot acces the switch underneath it.
Excellent!. Not exactly the typical point and click game, as you have some « powers » (tech augmentations) and you absolutely need them to resolve some of the enigmas. Some puzzles were kind of hard, as I didn't always think to use them, since it's not a classic point and click game. If you're stuck, that's probably because you didn't think of using one of them on something. I would have prefered to have a « hint » option (I had to watch a walkthrough at least 7 or 8 times). But overall, a really good game!
Really enjoying this detective game!. Great game, you are a detective but it’s not your typical point and click game. Have not played a game like this yet, unique! I recommend
