Microsoft To Do Comments & Reviews 2026
Wunderlist was Superior. I really cannot stand this app, but I use it because they hijacked Wunderlist and then tossed it in the trash, forcing us into this mess. Yes, it looks very similar to Wunderlist, and they gave a half-*** attempt and making it work like Wunderlist, but it fails in so many areas. I feel it’s temperamental. For example, when I’m trying to move an item, it’s is to difficult make sure it goes in between other list items. It’s instead VERY easy to accidentally drop a list item onto another item, forcing that item to become a sub-item under another item, which appears that said action cannot be undone 😳! So we have to delete the sub-item and manually add it back onto the list by creating it a new list item again. This is a huge problem when it comes to my time and productivity. The other pretty annoying issue is my completed items populate in my not-completed item list. This may be fine for some tasks, but most certainly is not for a perpetual grocery list. There should be an option on how we’d like to view the completed items. I loved how Wunderlist kept completed tasks at the very bottom so when I needed to view them, I could scroll through ONLY completed items. Now I have to wait for THOUSANDS of completed grocery items that have been purchased over the years to populate (because I imported my Wunderlist). Another huge bog-down in terms of my time and productivity. There’s a few other annoyances but These are the ones that I need fixed to ever be content with Microsoft’s version of Wunderlist.
UI is phenomenal - but a couple huge complaints. This redesign is nearly perfect. I love the design so much more than Wunderlist. But it is missing a few key features that make it hard to use for me. 1) There are no notification bubbles that appear when a task is overdue like on Wunderlist. I used this feature all the time for recurring tasks that I want out of my way but to be reminded of when it is time to do them. These overdue tasks should be automatically populated in My Day and you should be notified of them. Or at least have the option to. 2) When viewing tasks in My Day or Important, they are all lumped together. If you have multiple projects, it can get disorienting. I prefer the way Wunderlist did it where you can see tasks grouped by the project/list they came from. Helps to organize these lists that pull from multiple projects better.
Crashes frequently. Crashes 1-2x/day minimum, usually within a minute or two of opening the app if I haven’t opened it in a few hours. Always happens when I’m editing a task which is very annoying since the changes aren’t saved when it crashes. Slows down entire iOS until I kill the app after the crash. I would give the app 5-stars if it didn’t crash, but constant crashes mean I can’t even give the app a 3-star “meets expectations” if the app isn’t properly functional. …and of course, it’s a Microsoft product, so we’re all just spinning our wheels writing these reviews. Microsoft is too big to fail and doesn’t care about this. Just look at their support forums for Windows OS. You can never get a response from actual MS Support and good luck getting a human on the phone if you try to call them. All they will do is try to upsell you a support package. I’m writing this review NOT in the hopes that Microsoft fixes it, because realistically they won’t, but to let other potential users know about the frustrations they’ll likely experience if they download the app.
Left handed scrolling issues. I am left handed and I often accidentally click the circle on the left side of a list item that indicates an item is completed. I then have to search for that item I. The completed tasks list to restore it. I have tried to scroll right handed to avoid this issue, but it is difficult for me to get used to. It would be nice to have a feature to either support left handed scrolling (maybe by having an option to put circles to check on the right side) or request confirmation before checking off the item (I had found a report on how to achieve the latter option, but does not seem to be supported on iphone). Otherwise the app would be great, just so frustrated to accidentally check off items that I will probably switch to another app. Should work well for right-handed users, though.
Lost all my lists for no reason. I have no idea how or when this happened, recently I noticed that To-Do wouldn’t let me open the app without logging into my Microsoft account. I didn’t think much of it and just figured I’d been timed out or something. When I logged in I’m fairly certain my lists were all still there (again this was last week, so it’s blurry), but today when I opened the app, it has me signed into my Microsoft account at the top (which looks different, I don’t remember the app showing me my profile picture, it’s possible that it’s a different Microsoft account, but I only have this one, so idk what account my lists may actually be under; when I first downloaded the app I logged into one but I can’t remember why it wouldn’t be the same as the one I signed into it with last week). But now the app has no lists, whereas I had quite a few Ive been using for school and other personal notes and tasks. I really hope it’s not all lost, and that this is just a rectifiable error on my part. And actually, now that I remember, I have had the To-Do widget on my home page, and just yesterday it was showing me my lists, now it says I have nothing planned. Again, not sure what the issue here is, but I hope it can be fixed and I can recover my data!
Love the app but…….. I love the Microsoft To-Do app. I love the integration into Outlook Tasks. I love the seamless transfer from the desktop app to mobile and back. I love the availability of switching between accounts (easily) while using the desktop app on my windows 10 PC. That’s where the “But” comes in. I do not like the fact that you cannot switch between accounts on iOS devices without signing out then signing back in. I was hoping this would be fixed/changed with an app update but it’s been a while now (and several app updates) with no change. If the iOS version of the Microsoft To-Do app would allow for easy switching between accounts (like the desktop app allows) it would be perfect. I’m sure I’m not the only person who would like to see this feature hit iOS devices.
Great app + Improvements. I use Microsoft To Do regularly to track tasks. It has all the features you would expect for a task tracker - scheduled dates, reminders, recurring tasks, etc. You can also add tasks to “My Day” to make a list of what you want to do today, which is very helpful for me. The app will even give you suggestions what to add to My Day based on scheduled date, which is great. Plus the app syncs with the desktop version in Outlook! In the past I recommended an improvement to the app, to allow us to skip a recurring task if it was missed. Well, now that feature exists! When you open a task, you can skip to current task if there are past recurrences that you didn’t complete. In Outlook it was already possible to skip a recurring task, so not having that option in the app was a bummer. I’m happy to see that Microsoft is listening to feedback and making improvements to their apps! :)
Steps are headed in the right direction but…. With the addition of steps/subtasks, we’re definitely getting closer to this app replicating the full functionality Wunderlist (need folders and shared notes support to make it complete). But there’s a weird glitch in the app and the steps keep disappearing/reappearing. Sometimes they show, sometimes they don’t. The first time I reopened the app after creating some steps on one of my to-dos I thought they didn’t take, so I added them again, then they vanished again on another reload, so I added them again. Turns out, when I opened the To-Do web client, the original steps I added and ALL the duplicate entries saved to the cloud like they were supposed to but don’t always populate on screen on the phone. What a productivity nightmare. Add a new step? They all appear again. Rearrange the to-dos? Disappear. If this bug can be squashed I’ll give the app a fourth star. I’ll be screenshotting any to-dos with steps in the meantime so I can be sure I can reference them when I’m on the go.
Missing one feature. This is a great list organizer. Deserves all of the five stars. Having separate lists that can be time organized makes my job, volunteering, and personal life much easier to manage. Now that the planned tasks that fall on the current day automatically populate to the My Day list, it is even more easy to organize. I see that the engineers have the capability to create smart lists. The ONLY missing feature I see is the availability for users to organize their own smart lists. i.e. if I have the same word in multiple tasks and I created a keyword list that looked only for that word. I work in residential construction. I have my houses set as different lists. It would be great if I could create a smart/keyword list that looked across all the other lists for tasks that had the word plumber. Then I could have an organized list for everything I had to call the plumber for. Or if I set up inspection dates for separate houses, if some of them feel in the same day a keyword list for inspections would make it easier to organize to make just one call to schedule them.
Can be frustrating to use. I used Wunderlist to keep running meal plans and a grocery list. I switched over to To Do when they emailed us about phasing out the app. Since using to do, I have been annoyed with the “show completed tasks” feature. It’s easy to accidentally check off an item that you haven’t completed. In Wunderlist, I could quickly figure out what I clicked by accident, because it kept the crossed off item in the same location in the list (showed it in it’s original location with the uncompleted tasks still there). In to do, if you say to show completed tasks, it pulls them up in a totally different order... like a running list of completed to do’s. There is no way for me to figure out which one I just removed from my list by mistake. My app is also freezing up when I say “hide completed tasks”. It won’t go back to my list. I have to shut the app down and reopen it. When scrolling sometimes the app thinks I’ve selected a task and moves it... I understand the desire to rearrange items, but I would rather that be a separate menu or something. I make my grocery list in an order to begin with. I don’t want that order changed because I’m scrolling. Maybe include an edit option that allows you to move items, but make items stay put unless you specifically tap the dot to check them off. Too much happens by accident!
Microsoft suspended my account for no reason. Leaving me without access to my list.. Wunderlist shutdown, like 2 years ago? I couldn’t bring myself to switch to the new Microsoft todo app, and continued using wunderlist without sync access. Well finally yesterday I needed to sync with other people, so I gave in, installed the app, and created a dreaded Microsoft live account. I spent 3 hours transferring things over, organizing, and coming up with new tasks with my wife for our upcoming huge trip. Then today happened. I tried opening the app to add something to my list, and boom! No more account. It’s been suspended for TOS violations. Huh? It’s a brand new account which I just verified yesterday. I tried going through the recovery process. Nope. They don’t like any of the phone numbers I gave them to recover. I contacted support. Nope. They can’t do anything other than walk me through same thing as website. My todo list is gone. I can’t even access a local copy of it. F Microsoft. They ruin everything they touch. I uninstalled it and will now find an alternative…. Then waste another afternoon rebuilding everything.
Frustrated!. I am so frustrated with Microsoft To Do! It has been extremely frustrating trying to import my lists to Microsoft To Do from Wunderlist. It will not store any of my image files within the app, but says I can import them onto my phone or computer as a file, which defeats the purpose of having a list for things that need files. For instance, I have a dietary food chart that I need to refer to frequently. The app does not allow for this due to the file size being too large. I enjoy making lists of gift ideas or future things I wish to order with a web site or image on my list. It will not allow for any of this, which has caused me to no longer have access to these lists. I did download these as a file but it is not in list form but just a mis mash list of images one after another. Also, another frustration is that when I simply wanted to invite my husband to share a grocery list with me, it ended up inviting a whole group of my contacts that were added automatically somehow. I miss the ease of Wunderlist and hope that Microsoft can update this app to make it at least as good as Wunderlist was.
Not as Good as Wunderlist - Needs Improvement. I was a Wunderlist user for many, many years. When I upgraded to a new phone recently, I saw the notice that Wunderlist will be going away (sad face) and this will be its replacement. I was happy to be able to transfer all my lists easily to this new app. However, one of the biggest annoyances about this one is that I can’t manually rearrange my lists! It allows you to automatically arrange it by such things as alphabetically and importance (starred items). However, you can’t rearrange it further. For instance, if you have multiple items with stars, and you have the list sorted by importance, but you add a new starred item, it goes to the bottom of the starred items, and you can’t move it to the very top unless you change the entire order of all items (whether they are starred or not) by date of creation or something. But then, your starred items aren’t at the top anymore and are scattered throughout. This is sssooo annoying; it makes me not want to use this app at all. I want to be as loyal to this app as I was to Wunderlist. This is a big oversight in the design of this app. Until this is fixed, I can only give it 3 stars. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!
Half-Baked. This app and its web counterpart need a lot more work. It would be great if they combined it with Outlook Tasks and Planner into a single task management system, akin to Todoist. The app needs natural language support, a desktop Mac client, tie-ins with Teams to create tasks and projects directly from Teams, and tasks dated for today need to be automatically added to My Day so everything due in a given day is all in one place, rather than looking from list to list. It would also be great if it had a general Inbox to add tasks to as they come to mind and then organize later, like GTD prescribes. List sharing would be another big boost, especially for businesses if it’s linked to Teams, so that projects could be organized through ToDo and tasks managed. Apps like TickTick or Todoist show how powerful task management systems can also be easy to use and good for both individuals and businesses. Hopefully this app will follow in their footsteps and replace the myriad Microsoft task and project management options that currently exist (Outlook Tasks, Planner, To-Do), like Microsoft is doing consolidating Lync, Skype, and Teams.
Merely populates iPhone Reminders. I’ll give this app 2-stars because it doesn’t crash ... but seriously, why would anyone WANT to quit using the superior Wunderlist for this half-effort? Any item you create is stored in the iPhone Reminders as a to-do, but neither scheduled nor shared with associates. Items are not entered by default with a due date, and even if you do add a due or reminder date, they’ll disappear from “today” and don’t carry over to tomorrow, so you must manually add any tasks from a single list of ALL tasks. If you mark an item with a star ... well that’s meaningless. And should you open your iPhone Reminders, you’ll find 100’s of stored there, thereby making simple reminders (like “go to bed”) lost amongst the work tasks that didn’t require being spammed through the Reminders app, not to mention now your to-do of “turn in report” has the same unimportant notification appearance, sound, and limited snooze options as “pick up kids from school”. Utterly worthless and a lesson for how to drive away millions of customers so an app exists solely to have O365 but without any of Wunderlist’s functionality. What a waste.
Nice but feels unfinished (unlike Wunderlist). TLDR: I think I can’t appreciate this app because I basically want it to be Wunderlist - and it’s not. Details: I’m another old Wunderlist user (since 2014) and I was forced to find a new app since Wunderlist is getting the real boot this year. I liked To do at first, but I’ve slowly grown to dislike it. It is not a smooth, solid app like Wunderlist. It glitches often - especially on the Mac. I couldn’t get used it’s “My Day” philosophy: having to pick tasks every day even though I’d set tasks for that day in the past. Just feels like an extra step, and I couldn’t quite get how it’s supposed to work with my tasks for which I’d set scheduled due dates. It has a “planned” view but it just doesn’t feel righ. And I cannot understand why they don’t have comments like Wunderlist did - that was very useful for track progress on tasks. So I’m going to have to find something else unfortunately. I really wanted to like this app, but it just doesn’t fill in the space left by Wunderlist.
Feature requests below! App’s only for sharpshooters and. Hey does your team still take feature requests? Get the product owner over here! 1. I’m no iOS dev but consider allowing us to snap items to the bottom of a list by letting go anywhere in the space below the last list item. My lists are short, 7-8 items, likely even more. But it’s really annoying to drag an item down and miss the invisible space that it’s meant to slot in. I prefer not requiring a license as an elite sharpshooter to append items at the bottom. An MVP feature may be a fading border effect. i.e. I’d like to scroll down quickly and fling the last item to the bottom with less precision. 2. Here’s another innovative idea you should user test. What if you make your todo items more like a diary? Give me a calendar to review the things I’ve done the days before. Don’t make users input a time. Just automatically save the time for them. Only sequence matters, from first day’s task to the last thing they do. Maybe an innovation lab might be good for these ideas to research and test.
Fantastic App. I’ve been using this app for months now and it’s incredible. Many of the features included for free here you have to pay for with other to do list apps. Being able to set custom reminders is amazing — being able to set tasks to repeat at custom intervals is so helpful! I love that this is cross platform as well, so I can keep up with my tasks on my computer as well as my phone. I use this app to schedule my day to day life and it’s helped me manage my ADHD exponentially. I have some feature requests Ive wished for, but ultimately the positives outweigh what i wish it had. The repeating tasks combined with the overdue function is a bit odd, as if you miss a repeating task more then once it will duplicate the entire task. This makes using this app as a habit tracker very difficult, and I have to use a different one. Using the app for anything else is amazing though! Thanks for not messing this one up Microsoft 👍🏻
Not bad but not good either. I am also a wunderlist fan trying to make the switch. The biggest frustration I have at the moment is when I’m making my grocery list. I always sorted on wunderlist with the importance or the star icon. And then I put the list in order from my routine in the store. I weekly shop for a family of 6 and it takes me about 45 mins with my list in order including driving time. However with this new app I can sort my list by importance but then they won’t let you reorder your items manually also. So when I cancel the sort list by importance it changes it to some other way of sorting. Instead of just leaving it in it’s previous sorted order but making it so I can make manual changes it changes the sorting order. I have no idea which order since I took off any kind of sorting. It’s very frustrating. So it looks like it’s impossible to put my shopping list in order of how I go through the store to make it quicker. Without first writing my list down and then transferring it to this app. When I don’t have my list in order my shopping trip takes quite a bit longer to complete. It’s so frustrating especially with this corona virus situation and me being in the high risk category as I’m expecting. Please update the app to make it more like wunderlist!!!!!!!
Missing One Critical Feature!!. I love the simple yet pretty layout of this app, and I love that I can create different categories (work, school, personal) while having a “My Day” area that shows me ALL tasks that I need to complete that day. Beautiful! HOWEVER, any task you put a due date on does NOT automatically show up in My Day once that day arrives! So even if I put a task as “due tomorrow”, once tomorrow comes it will not show up in My Day. So basically every single morning I have to go through my various lists and add tasks manually to My Day. The whole point of having a due date for me is to “set it and forget it”. It’s too exhausting to add each task manually every day. Doesn’t it make sense that if a task is DUE TODAY that it should appear in the MY DAY folder? Drives me crazy!! I also wish it would have a badge app icon showing me how many tasks are on My Day for the day, so I can have a quick glance just from the home screen of how many tasks I still have to complete that day.
Gets Cluttered Fast. This is like every other notepad app out there, meaning it does nothing helpful for how people put together real life task lists. I use my iPhone’s notepad with checkboxes, and manually update tasks for everything i do. Some are daily, some are long-term. So of course a real to do list app would be able to organize that right? And allow daily tasks to reoccur and be completed daily, alongside long-term ones. Well this app, like all the others, doesn’t. You can make tasks reoccur... but they won’t show up in ‘My Day’ by default. BUT after you complete one for the day (eg. Brush teeth), it’ll just reappear randomly in the list with subtext of ‘tomorrow’, which is beyond useless, beyond unintuitive or logical, and clutters the entire list. Then the whole ‘My Day’ feature gets pretty dumb if tasks can’t autopopulate there. All in all, giving Microsoft the responsibility to make something intuitive is always bound to fail, so this is really just like every other worthless, weakly supported, temporarily-named, overlapping functionality MS product out there. Win10’s, and to a lesser extent the Office suite is fine (necessary evils really, you can’t escape Windows or Office), but don’t let that fool you into thinking ANYTHING else they ever introduce in their ecosystem is useful or useable.
Game Changer. This app is extremely useful and, unlike many apps that are merely fun and interesting, this one could literally change your life or business if applied thoughtfully. It has some features built in which seem to follow suggestions from mainstream best sellers on organization such as one of my personal favorites: Getting Things Done by David Allen. I know it is based off another program which I never owned. I use the app on my iPhone, iPad and two versions on my desktop—one in a web browser and an iOS app. All four versions have similar features but actually have some extra features you gave to search for almost like a treasure hunt! The browser version allows you to copy tasks and next steps which allows you to create templates for repeated tasks. You can share lists with friends/co-workers as well to delegate next-steps. I recommend you explore the program thoroughly before spending time making detailed lists—there are a few things it cannot do, and knowing what they are helps you to organize your lists properly. I am still exploring the program but have been using it with a lot of success. Good luck. I’m sure Microsoft will continue to improve the program over time.
Not yet ready for prime time. Update: I dropped Appigo ToDo since writing my original review and now use MS To Do exclusively due to its interoperability with MS Office Tasks. I still won’t increase my rating recommendation because MS has failed to improve features making it a real task manager. In addition to the shortcomings I’ve already mentioned there are bugs they just won’t fix. One such bug is that when completing a task the completion date (as seen in MS Office Tasks) is set to the day BEFORE the actual date. I reported this to MS but they don’t seem to care to fix it. For me, MS To Do is just not quite there. I have it installed on my phone and I’m glad to see MS is continuing to add basic features so I’m hoping it will progress to the usefulness I’m looking for. If one is looking for an app to just make check lists it would fine, but if one needs a real task manager it doesn’t do that very well like MS Office Tasks for desktop. Among other features, I want to be able to sort by multiple levels (e.g. due date, then priority, then subject) and similarly to be able to search and sort by categorized completed tasks for archival record keeping. Microsoft, keep improving and I’ll switch when you get there. In the meanwhile, I’ll use an old version of Appigo ToDo which does it all pretty well except they have dropped Syncing with Outlook from newer releases.
The switch. Well I also had a difficult time after Wunderlist. But with the updates and my persistent efforts I got ToDo to work close to Wunderlist in fact with a little more options. I was very frustrated to begin with but very satisfied now in fact more so. Even got my daughter who used Wunderlist set up like mine and she to is satisfied with it now. It was a long haul to get it working. I don’t read instructions I play till it’s what I want. Now that I have had To Do since it was first introduction I love it. I have many stores with lists for shopping items on each. I also use it for reminders. Love the way it lists separately the stores and items for each I shopping at more than one store. When I complete each item at each store I just tap and it returns to my list for that store so don’t have to keep adding. You can also use it for appointments. Highly recommend.
An Incredible Tool for Everything. My list of lists goes on and on….This is the most helpful app that I own and the one that I refer to many times a day- I keep my grocery list shared with my partner on it which allows us to add things whenever we think of them even if the other person is at the store. I keep household upkeep lists on it, I keep work lists by department and small things that I need to follow up on it, I keep a list of gift ideas on it for when I hear a friend or family member mention or compliment something so I have ideas in mind at the holiday season, I use it to create lists of questions for when I visit the Dr. office so that I can be organized and not forget something important- and to take notes about their responses. I use it for lists of book recommendations and create lists to help me remember the names of neighbors who I may not see as often. etc etc etc
Almost five stars.... This app is really nice for lots of reasons. One of these is, it's completely free! Which is super nice because I tried to find other planner apps however you HAD to get premium on all of them which made me really upset. Also, with this app, you can create a custom repeat unlike other apps where you can only repeat daily or weekly etc. I also really enjoy how organized it is. It's great for multiple things like, goal tracking, to do, school work, and much more! I didn't give it five stars because, 1. I was really hoping that I would be able to make the tasks diffrent colors or diffrent fonts not that this is totally important but I think it would make it more enjoyable for me. And 2. When you get into the app you have to long into your Microsoft account. Which isn't a big deal however, I did not have one before so it was a very long process to create one. 3. You cant use your personal photos as the theme background.
Works well just needs a few tweaks!. I used to write all my checklists on paper pads and cross things out and then throw away the papers when I was done, but this app is perfect! I can make organized categories of checklists so I can have multiple ongoing lists, and I like that items can be pinned to My Day for what I need to get done today specifically. And the checked off sound is great! My only complaints are that the UI could use some small adjustments. I like to check off items, but then after, I have to delete them. I personally don't think both are necessary but my main issue is that it takes a while to delete items! If I've completed a bunch of items then I have to spend several minutes deleting each one. Also, it's a little difficult to swipe the menu open, I frequently end up unintentionally moving the position of one list item so then they get scrambled, if I didn't accidentally combine two items and have to delete and re-add one. And of course when I want to rearrange the items, they don't want to insert to the bottom of the list either. I'm hoping these things will get fixed over time but so far I'm enjoying the app!
A perfect digital brain. This is BY FAR my absolute FAVORITE app ever. This app is a direct extension of my brain. It keeps all my thoughts organized. It is a perfect holding place for all the crazy ideas and things I need to get done that pop up in my brain. I can easily dump them here and then focus on what I need to. I’ve been using this for years back when it was Wunderlist. I can’t say enough good things about it. Best app ever. This keeps my personal to do list, my business to do list, my wish list, shopping list, books I want to read (but won’t ever get around to actually reading), business ideas, writing ideas, silly crazy ideas, movies I want to see, my vehicle maintenance schedules, my goals, my dreams and everything in between. As a side note I also use a simple but crazy-effective emoji system. I put an emoji in front of each to-do item. For example the hammer emoji means fix, a tree means outdoor project, a squid emoji means organization project, thread=sewing, car=car, computer=computer, etc. after that I put a number emoji which means how long I think that project will take. The app allows you to sort alphabetically so all the emojis are all grouped. When I have time, all I do is look at my to-do list and decide what kind of project I’m going to tackle and how much time I have. Then I get things done. Yes I was that really productive friend when the pandemic hit and we all got laid off. I was crushing it, getting things done, building stuff, starting side businesses. All with the help of Microsoft To-Do.
Buggy still. A great start and I’m happy so far. I used to be an avid user of Astrid and Wunderlist, and have been pretty frustrated these good apps keep getting bought by mega corporations. (Yahoo and Microsoft) For this app, there are some bugs and quirky behaviors that are frustrating. I migrated from Wunderlist and these weren’t issues before. Some example below: - The weekly recurring tasks don’t work. Just try it. If I set it for Friday, it somehow labels it as “Thu, Fri”. Is it a time zone issue? I’m in ET. - The sorting doesn’t work well. As we could in Wunderlist or even Excel, a sort order should not lock the list. We should still be able to move items around. Imagine a use case, where I want the list to be first sorted by items in the order they were created...then I want to reorder some items to appear on top. Not possible right now. We just end up having a jumbled mess. - When you inadvertently check off an item, it’s almost impossible to find it to uncheck it if you had Completed Items hidden. In Wunderlist, when a task is completed, it gets sent to the bottom and they are sorted in the order which they were completed. Now not anymore. It’s jumbled elsewhere and due to the weird sorting behavior (mentioned above), I can’t find it. - No easy way to purge completed items? This should be a setting. I had hundreds maybe thousands in some lists, and I had to manually delete each one. (I had to because I felt the app was slow.)
Lovely, except for sorting options. I switched to this app because my gTasks Pro app has become too slow at syncing (it syncs via Google tasks). I like the features and interface on Microsoft ToDo, and the syncing is lightning fast. A major problem, however, is the lack of flexibility in sorting. gTasks allows you to sort manually, which is highly effective. With Microsoft ToDo if I want to sort, for example, by “Importance”, and then have the tasks move to the bottom of the list when marked “Complete”, I’m out of luck. As a result, the list quickly becomes cluttered with completed tasks (if I sort by completed tasks the remaining uncompleted tasks have no sort order). I can manually drag a task anywhere I like, but it snaps back to it’s original location immediately. I’ve ended up going back to gTasks Pro for longer lists, and using this app for short lists only. It would be a 5 star app of the sorting option gets enhanced.
Too many basic features missing. I am surprised that this app in the whole sophisticated Microsoft suite is so sub-par and there is little love from the development team Basic functionalities are missing such as 1) I can’t defer any tasks. I can create reminders but deferred tasks still show up and there is not way to filter them out 2) the categories in outlook are basically useless. This would be a nice way to create structure (e.g. for GTD) but they only work on the browser version and not in the app (and this has been going on for a long time now - not sure what the complexity here is). 3) The app doesn’t really have any shortcuts for quick entries (e.g like things or Omnifocus). 4) there is no section for deleted tasks. Once deleted it disappears in the ether. So my trust level is very low in the system (did I accentidally delete something?). On the upside, the integration with teams or mail is improving. But still - I am disappointed and unfortunately forced to use it at work
Simple and effective. I don’t normally leave reviews but hopefully this can help someone like me, who has trouble staying organized and planning things if they aren’t written down. I much prefer pen and paper, but in today’s digital age it’s not realistic to always have both on hand and easily accessible. First of all, I’ve tried so many different task apps over the years (both paid and free) and I’m so happy to have finally settled on this one. The interface is very simple; you just type and press enter and your task is set. Additionally, you may opt to set reminders and due dates, either at time of writing or later. My favorite feature is the Siri compatibility, so I can always add things even if I can’t type at that moment. Next, this app wins because I no longer have to browse through a bunch of different lists and categories to see what needs to be done urgently; I can see exactly what needs to be done today, next week, and next month. I can also see what doesn’t have a due date, and one can be assigned later. The ability to sort by lists and urgency simultaneously is phenomenal. Finally, I only use Apple products and this syncs flawlessly across my iPhone, iPad, iWatch, and MacBook. Overall, this app does wonders for my productivity. Keep it simple!
Needs a lot of work. I am a physician and a scientist who requires a good to-do app to keep everything straight on a daily basis. Wunderlist was really the perfect tool for this, allowing me to organize and share tasks with lab members and clinical colleagues. When I learned it would eventually replace wunderlist, I decided to give To-Do a solid try. I imported all my lists from wunderlist, familiarized myself with all of To-Do’s features, and used it in place of Wunderlist for a good week. Unfortunately, a year after it’s unveiling, To-Do still needs a lot of work. The lack of a way to group related lists and the inability to automatically place tasks that are due today into the “my day” folder are critical deficiencies. Sure you can click the lightbulb in the “my day” folder and select all the upcoming tasks with the help of “suggestions,” but many (like me) cant remember to do that on a daily basis. The point of a to-do app is to make remembering all of your daily tasks unnecessary. I had so many issues with missing things (I literally have a hundred tasks some days) that I had to switch back to Wunderlist within a week. I know that the Microsoft team is working hard on To-Do behind the scenes. I plan to keep checking in and switch to to-do once it truly integrates all the features of wunderlist.
Missing a few things. Over all good app but there are a few things it’s missing that other apps have. I make a list of “todo” and if I don’t get to one task it sits there in past waiting for me to click it. I e seen other apps where it will move to current day if task isn’t complete which will continue my repeat task and I’m not having to go back to click off each thing I didn’t do from past days before it will show up in current to do’s. Also I make a list for groceries, though it will cross the grocery products off when I click them I have seen other apps that you have the option to see it crossed off or completely removed from the list. I like seeing the things removed and this app doesn’t have that feature. Over all I will use the app but I still have to use other apps with this one. I would like a “one app does all” so I can delete other apps
Beautiful Simplicity. This app is honestly really great. A big problem I have as a major procrastinator is convincing myself I’m working hard by spending tons of time adjusting all the millions of features Todoist and Clickup and other full-featured todo apps have. Microsoft Todo is simple, but not to the point of annoyance. The UI is great, it syncs across devices, it’s free, it has basically all the simple necessities like setting dates for assignments and notifications - and, like I said, it’s totally free, no waving around massive discounts and upgrade signs every time you open the freaking app. It just works. The one thing I wish would be added would be being able to set a time when the todo needs to be completed, being able to add multiple notifications, and maybe more themes/colors. Other than that, it’s great.
One of my few ‘essential’ apps. I almost never write app reviews but wanted to give some praise to this outstanding app. I used to use post-it notes and text documents on my computer to organize all my ‘to do’ lists. But they often became rather large and unwieldy with both work and home tasks combined. I wanted a better way to organize my tasks as well as a way to always have my list on hand for when something new came to mind. An iPhone app was the best solution, and the To Do app has fit the bill perfectly. Within just a few months of use, it has become an essential part of my planning for all of my tasks at both work and home. Though the interface is simple and straightforward, you come to see the app is quite sophisticated as you explore its capabilities. You can organize to-do items within folders and add ‘Steps’ as sub tasks within the main task item itself. Items can be tagged for addition to the main ‘My Day’ folder, where all your planned tasks for that day reside until you check them off. Tasks not completed by midnight can be reviewed the following day and added again to the ‘My Day’ folder or allowed to remain in their custom home folder until another day. Tasks can be designated as planned events, with future dates assigned for their completion. You can set both the due date and when you want a notification to remind you about them. The app has the ability to assign tasks to others using the same app, but I don’t use that function. My only wish for improvement is the creation of a ‘My Weekend’ folder similar to the ‘My Day’ folder. That would help with planning my days off during the course of my work week. I’ve created a work-around by making a custom folder for weekend tasks, but custom folders lack some of the features of the main ‘My Day’ folder.
My favorite task app at the moment!. I missed Wunderlist but ToDo is on par now. It’s my favorite way of organizing my todos. I don’t have a lot of “projects” that Todoist forces me into. Nor am I walled into Apple like I am with Things. ToDo is everywhere but it just deals in lists which is enough for me. If you need project management this is not the app for you. With ToDo each morning I get suggestions about what to do today and I pick the ones to do today and they go into My Day. Easy. Then I can star some of those to focus on and see them in my Important smart list. Easy again. That’s it. I like being able to focus on just one or two tasks at a time instead of always having to stare at a long list. The interface is lovely but…it’s missing a big + sign for quick entry. It also would benefit greatly from direct integration with OneNote notes. ToDo also needs a dedicated Apple Watch app.
If you’re not using this app, you should be. I’ve been using To Do for years now, after trying nearly every other competing list app out there. This one isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty darn close. Integrates nigh seamlessly with Outlook. Feature rich. Downright life changing. If you’re still carefully rewriting the unchecked items on your list to a fresh page in a college-ruled spiral notebook (like I did for decades), do yourself a favor and transpose that thing right into To Do. It’ll be in your pocket and at your immediate fingertips from now on. The ding it makes when you mark a task complete is almost as crossing off a paper list (and it keeps records of these). Seriously, use this for a few months and you’ll be gushing about it to all your friends and colleagues. You’ll wonder how you ever functioned before. Trust me, you’ll dig it, or your money back (LOL it’s free).
FINALLY Matches & Surpasses Wunderlist!. This morning, the creators of “Microsoft To Do” FINALLY fixed enough of the features on this app to meet my former expectations of “Wunderlist!” “Microsoft To Do” (at first) had a lot of fun new features like colorful backgrounds for lists, and a few more sorting options, but was still missing some of the BASICS I enjoyed in “Wunderlist:” Here are my favorite two: 1) Being able to quickly recover a RECENTLY checked-off item at the TOP of the completed items, within a given list. Example: In “To Do” completed items were initially only alphabetized. I have an ongoing (reusable) grocery list including HUNDREDS of products. I even number them, by aisle, to ensure I see them “in order.” (Even if I’m in a different store, it still, at least, “categorizes” them together). But an “accidentally checked off” item, while shopping, was virtually GONE (until I got home & realized what was missing). This was fixed! Now I can just look at the TOP of the completed list. And, 2) Now I can see upcoming tasks separated out BY DAYS. In the past, anything beyond tomorrow was lumped together. Now, just like in Wunderlist, I can quickly find an upcoming day to which a task can be quickly moved/reassigned. And one of my favorite NEWER features of “To Do:” if you want certain tasks to recur/repeat in the future, say, only Mondays Wednesdays & Fridays (as opposed to once a week, or once a day) it can do this! Very cool. Keep up the great work!
(Update) Still not as good as Wunderlist was and here’s why…. Update from review a few months ago: So another plug - Please add more sort options to the Important list (right under My Day on my screen). It would be absolutely PERFECT if I could sort the Important list by specific lists and in alphabetical order since the grocery lists are set up by store layout. Alternatively, allow users to sort each list with sub-sorts such as: in my TJ’s list, sort by importance, then alphabetically. It should automatically do this, though, IMO. It is simply not functional if trying to use it as a grocery list. If I’ve designed the list by store layout, then I want all the dairy that I’ve starred to be together. Why are so many requests being ignored (for years) by Microsoft? I’m about to move on from this app and try another one specifically for groceries, but boy what a headache that would be. To Do could be an excellent, simple app if Microsoft would take care of some key requests (and apparently bugs). Partial review a few months ago: The “Important” list brings in all the starred tasks, however there still is no option to sort by the different lists each of these starred tasks live in. I have grocery stores as lists and I used to be able to go to the Important list and it would show me all the starred items I needed to purchase, separating it by each grocery store “list”. Worked perfectly! If this sort feature can be added to To Do, I’d seriously consider giving it 5 stars, but not until then.
Not Terrible but There’s Issues. So I’m trying to wean myself off Wunderlist to the To Do app and while it’s not terrible there are issues. For one I’m not crazy about the Planned section at all. If anything it feels cluttered and unorganized. The earlier tab brings up tasks I’ve not set dates for and ironically haven’t used recently but the only way I can remove them is by marking them as complete and 100% eliminating them. So unless I want to continuously create a new shopping task rather than edit the preexisting one in my earlier tab I guess they’ll have to hang around uselessly in Planned. The other issue I have with Planned is how jumbled up the rest of the week looks when you’re trying to see what tasks are coming up. In Wunderlist your week was sectioned into days and your tasks were allotted to those days. Now the tasks are all piled together under one tab that accounts for most of the week and it just seems like unnecessary clutter. The other issues I came across was that “My Day” doesn’t auto populate which seems rather redundant and I preferred when the important tasks moved to the top of the lists. It would also be really awesome to move the tasks assigned to each day in an order of importance if that became available. I know To Do is still an app in progress but I do rely upon my planners a lot and hope it eventually becomes as successful as the beloved Wunderlist.
Best To-Do List App I have Found. I would have to say that overall Microsoft To-Do is a fantastic app and definitely the best to-do list app I have used. They make it very easy for someone with an ever growing and changing list of things that need to be done to organize everything in their life. For example: I have my main tasks listed in the default list but I also have a list for each of the jobs I work, and a group with lists for all of my college classes and their assignments. And the best part is you can view everything that needs to be done today, tomorrow, next week, and later from all of those lists all on one page in the “Planned” tab. This app also works really well across multiple platforms by instantly syncing changes. I use it on my iPhone, iPad, and Windows PC. A main feature I would really love to see added for the versions on iOS and iPadOS is the ability to add Microsoft To-Do to your widgets this way you can see and check things off your list all right from your home screen. My biggest complaint is that whenever you add a task from the “Planned” tab it defaults to being due yesterday??? But overall it’s a to-do list app and I think you would have a really difficult time finding a better one out there.
Over designed. I like the improvement I have seen in the past few months. I think Todo is heading the right direction. There are a few features such as assign to someone and attach photos to a note that are still missing. And it doesn’t do a good job integrating with other Microsoft services such as Outlook and Flow. But I hope these will be added along the way. One thing I strongly dislike about this app is it’s unnecessary big visual background that takes up 1/3 of the screen. Even though it goes away after scrolling its uneconomical use of limited real estate on the phone makes me hate it. A todo app should focus on what the user tries to accomplish and reduce every possible noise. I love the Things app for its simple design. It’s just so beautiful. You can feel that everything shown on the screen is intentional with a purpose. The original Wunderlist design was also really good for the same reason. Please offer the option to remove the annoying title background. I hate it! Thanks
Missing the “PRINT LIST” feature! Frustrated.... I am a Wunderlist user who (like many many others) was forced to migrate to Microsoft To Do. I had for years used Wunderlist’s “PRINT LIST” option which allows me to print about a dozen or so weekly cleaning and chore lists for around the house DIRECTLY from my iPhone via AirPrint and send all my checklists to my home printer wirelessly—complete with indented tasks, sub-tasks, task notes, page numbers, neatly organized checkboxes next to each item, and even a proper header and footer with the date my list was printed, etc.; however, this same option to print is NOT available in Microsoft To Do which is very frustrating since I have use this feature on a weekly basis for years now. I had spent a significant amount of time creating detailed lists for other things such as an “RV Checklist” and others. Now, since we are forced to move away from Wunderlist to the lessor Microsoft To Do app, I will have to spend time finding and migrating again over to another better app that allows me a simple option to directly print my lists from my iPhone via AirPrint straight to my networked home printer.
Tasks and Outlook. Hello - I love tasks, however it doesn’t community to email as I would like. It doesn’t allow me to create a note/task tied directly to an email. Every email that comes in has action items tied to it. So if we had the ability to add a Note/task to that email, it would help us focus on the actionable items of importance. If we open 100 emails a day, that’s a lot of action items. And if we wanted to prioritize those actions of importance, we need an organized way to see those actions. So the tasks would appear in 2 locations exactly the same. Duplicate. One on the task bar as it is today, and the other would appear as a icon of some sort on the email itself. Could you add an icon on the email options for “tasks/notes” with time and date stamps on them so we can get even more strategic on what we are completing first. Also, if we do get the option to create an action task for email, can that option also be made available for the mobile app. I try and work on my phone as often as I can however it’s not as efficient as the desktop applications.
Improving, update by update. To-Do has definitely improved from my first download a year ago, but there are still key features that keep me with Wunderlist (app/company was acquired by Microsoft and that team now works on To-Do). Pros of To-Do that have me looking forward to a move from Wunderlist: - Dropped the skeuomorphic design - Has Wunderlist import feature (some reviews say this is still a little buggy) - The font is clean and visually pleasing Features Wunderlist has that To-Do still needs: - Folders and nesting for lists: I prefer to break out different projects and responsibilities within my work list - Option for a scrolling calendar wheel, or the ability to have weeks start on Monday, not Sunday when setting task due dates. I’m fine with the “Pick a date” calendar option, but I would SO prefer the ability to have this calendar have Mondays to start weeks. I’ve been able to do this in Outlook, so I know you can add this feature 😊 - Ability to update profile photo: Currently cannot update the standard avatar - Variety of neutral backgrounds: With To-Do, the background of the “Important” list cannot be altered. For now it’s an uneditable purple space telescope theme. I tried to swap every list to be a plain neutral blue with no cartoon drawings. Some people may love the cartoons, but I need more neutral color options and just want to focus on my to dos, especially the ones I’ve noted are most important!
You just broke it! You changed the basic functionality from REPETITIVE list to ONE-OFF. The latest up(down?)date removed the ability to SHOW ALL items together and SORT the list while selecting items. This capability was a huge improvement over Wunderlist and was the only reason we switched. We use To Do for groceries. The list is over a hundred items because we buy the same stuff again and again. Using the completed list, we just find and uncheck what we are out of instead of tediously typing it in each time. Before this update, ‘Show Completed’ items mixed the two lists, in alpha order and we could quickly find items to add, stuff we forgot but need, and stuff added twice! The latest update ruined that functionality, and now it takes longer to make a list than just sending a text. The ‘Completed’ list is now randomly arranged, and can’t be sorted. Please restore the combined sort capability as an option for users who need a shareable list of REPETITIVE items, like grocery lists or household tasks or weekly agendas or repair parts.......
So close to perfect! Needs location awareness/geofencing. The way this functions and performs has the robustness, flexibility, dependability and platform-agnosticism to be a reliable personal task manager. It provides enough structure so one doesn’t need to think too much about where things go, yet isn’t too rigid where you feel like you need to work around limitations/restrictions. Works the same across all devices. Has rich-enough detail to use as a quick notes inbox w/ photo and file attachment included. Easy to add subtasks. Has alert and due dates as separate fields for fine tuned notifications. The only thing that needs to be added is geofence-based notifications so one can schedule alerts to be triggered when leaving or reaching a designated location. It would be great if this could also be combined with the alert times too, so you could schedule an notification for when you leave work only after 5:00pm. This feature is available in Apple reminders, and that comes really close to To Do minus the native app availability on other platforms. Microsoft, if you’re reading this, y’all have made the ultimate free task management app, and it has significantly improved my life. If you can add the geolocation features that would make this app perfect!
life saver. i absolutely love this app. i’m a full time student and i love that i can assign due dates to specific tasks and add sub-tasks to items and stuff, it’s all so intricate and keeps me super organized. i am obsessed with it lol i have just one recommendation, i don’t know if staff reads these reviews looking for recommendations, but if so.. it would be a nice touch if we could toggle to a calendar view for planned tasks so that we can see them by month! the only reason i still have a physical calendar is that i like to add my major events (exams, lab dates, etc) to a month-view calendar. if this were built in to my to-do app, it would be super convenient because i wouldn’t have to take the time to write everything in! i’m imagining like a calendar view with little numbers on each day based on how many things are set to be due that day, maybe even a little star if one of the items is also in the “important” list, i dunno. i think it would make everything a bit more neat & digestible for people who like looking at stuff by month. anyway, that’s the only criticism i have! and it’s not really even criticism, just an idea i had a little while ago and then found myself fantasizing about 😂 that’s when you know you’re really insane, you fantasize about your favorite to-do list app having a calendar view…
Serves its purpose. My husband and I have been looking for an app that accommodates to our meal-planning. This one is by far the best due to a simple user interface, convenient checklist, uncomplicated tools, and online account integration. Although what we use is very different than what this app is intended for, it’s exactly what we need. We are removing one star because we find it difficult to retype all the entries for other lists. Having a copy-and-paste feature would be wonderful. Another feature we would like to see is an option to set which page is defaulted when opening the app. Right now, it’s “My Day” and we would like to be able to see the entire list page when we open the app. Lastly, we would love to see an expanded collection of colors and themes. Heck, I would love for it to be completely customizable where we can select photos from our camera roll. Looking forward to what the future updates this app has to offer!

This works great!. Finally a To-do list app that works well for me. Tried heaps. Most are either too simple or too structured. This one is ideal for me. Key feature is “My Day” which is a special list populated from items in other lists (categories or topics). It’s the natural way I work. It’s great there is. Windows 10 app as well as iphone/ipad apps. Sync’ing between all these appears instant. So good to have both an effective to do list AND available on all these platforms. So pleased.
Incredibly lightweight but highly effective productivity app. I can’t say enough about To Do. I’ve used/tried a lot of different productivity apps over the years but this is by far the best, on balance. Other platforms/apps might have a greater range of features but those features come with complications and a higher requirement of dedication. To Do is a perfect blend of simplicity and punch, plus some incredibly powerful passive integrations with the new Outlook for both email and calendar. The ability to share and collaborate on lists also amplifies the possibilities. Love it.
Potential to be the best. Firstly, great app. Works really well and clearly has great back end support and features (especially like the appearance of flagged emails in my planned list). Few feature limitations that put it below GoTasks (my #1 to do app): - ability to drag tasks in the planned list to a new date (and have the due date update accordingly - same as GoTasks) - match the list sorting from Outlook with High & Low priority (sort by due date, then by priority, then default/alphabetical) - badge count to show number of tasks on ‘Today’ list
Wanting to like it. I downloaded the app at the beginning when functionality was limited, I’m a Microsoft fan so was intrigued when I saw it. After downloading it I deleted it cause it was limited and followed it over time and tried it again and again to see how it improved. It’s come a long way and added a lot but still has issues. Flagged emails don’t come through in their entirety, badge numbers don’t work, it changes dates on the flagged emails that do come through and this has been on 2 different phones. I really want to like this app but just can’t.
Definitely a Love / Hate relationship with this app.. Started with Wunderlist & then migrated to “To Do”. I use it for nearly everything:- routines, lists, payment reminders, meal planning etc. Having everything in one place is great & I can see multiple uses for it in a work environment. My biggest “hate” is that it continually “falls over / drops out / shuts down” on both my iPhone & iPad while I’m using it. So frustrating!!! I initially thought it was an “Apple” thing, but this is the only app it happens to for me. Tried using it on my laptop, but how it works / displays there is slightly different (not a fan) & certainly not as convenient as having it on my phone in my bag / pocket. For me - the hard part is that I am list focused and I have acquired so much information on it over the years that even though I would like to try another app - I’m too scared to….
Very visually appealing to do app- enjoyable to use. I really love using this app- I’m not usually great with organisation (as much as I’d like to be), however this app has helped a lot - such as creating different sections for my to-do list and adding particular tasks to “my day”. I find the app enjoyable to use due to the choice is backgrounds for different sections, and the “ding” noise it makes when I tick off a task feels very rewarding. My only frustration is that it’s not syncing my flagged emails, despite its claim to. I’ve read other reviews regarding the flagging issue, so I know I’m not the only one. Overall, I highly enjoy this to do app and I wish I had used it sooner😊
Reboots my phone during use. Constantly freezes and crashes when switching between “My Day” and other tasks lists, which then lags out my phone when I’m trying to app switch or close out of To Do, then my phone freezes for about 2-5 minutes and reboots which takes another 5 or so minutes. I don’t have issues with any other apps, I have enough free space in my phone etc and other reviews support my claims. I use To Do across my Windows devices as well - no issues on those. I love To Do but currently looking at alternatives as this issue has been ongoing for months and I can’t tolerate the constant phone reboots any more.
Needs events sync. Works great on my iPad but needs to sync up better with Outlook. if we can have events from Outlook show up here and also have the option to create them here that would be the icing on the cake! It would be useful if all the tasks I have created in this app were also accessible in Outlook calendar but I can also see how it simplifies it to have them in separate apps. But events definitely need to sync, I have an event today but because I can’t see it in To Do i almost planned a task for the same time slot…
A unique way to get on top of things. The usefulness if this app will depend on whether you follow its methodology for managing your tasks. I find it helpful that you’re forced to plan your day, every day and decide what you will do. The suggestions are great. This is core to how the whole app works, it’s easy to miss - it’s the lightbulb icon on the My Day view. Once you get the hang of this, it’s an amazing app. This is a key standout compared to other todo apps, where you end up with an overflowing list of overdue tasks that becomes unmanageable and you end up ignoring things and missing the important stuff. The other unique feature is the ability to flag emails in Outlook and they’re converted to tasks in their own list. This integration is a killer feature; emails I need to action, I just flag and bam task created. Whilst you can create steps for a task, the only issue for me is you can’t create sub-tasks in a hierarchical way. Add this and it’s perfect.
Seems glitchy. It crashes every time I use it, even after a few updates. It also has weird little glitches, like I wrote a task in just now and it showed up as a blank space between two other tasks until the app crashed and I reopened it. And usability is awkward, sometimes when I try to reorder a list item it accidentally gets dropped into a sub-task of another task and it’s annoying to then take it out. No option to report or give feedback, so I’m putting it in my review. I do like the general layout and the way my tasks can be shared across devices and accessed anywhere I log into my Microsoft account
Great but recent updates have made it too slow. Was my favourite to do list app, but in recent months it has become so slow and laggy. I have an iPhone 13pro and have no issues with other apps, but this one takes so long to load and for any actions to be recognized, whether it be making a new list or changing the due date of something. Would love to keep using this, but the slowness is making it difficult when it ends up taking more time to put lists together than writing them by hand now! Please fix the app so we can continue using it at full functionality! Also a calendar view where we can select specific dates and see what is on our lists for that day (not just the whole upcoming week, or ‘later’ days in one big group) would be a great new feature too!
sub-tasks are great. I really like that this app allows you to create sub tasks, breaking big tasks into steps that you can check off so you can see your progress. I also like that there is a list of suggestions in the morning for the My Day list (though there has been the occasional time it has not appeared, which then makes adding tasks to the list more difficult) I would like if the items themselves could be colour coded instead of all white, but overall I’m happy with this app.
Major bugs - loses tasks and history. This would be a 5 star app but it has a major issue in that tasks just disappear randomly. If you can’t rely on keeping tasks then that is a disaster. Microsoft please address this issue ASAP. I have been using the app for well over 12 months and the issue is common! Update Jan 2021. App still loses tasks. Just lost all my tasks for the day and all other long term tasks. Very irritating! Now a one star as this issue has been around for years.
Not good at all. Former wunderlist user here. Though I knew Microsoft had bought wunderlist ages ago I waited until the last possible moment to move because the press on to do wasn’t good and I’ve always loved the experience in wunderlist. Finally pushed to the edge of the cliff with the shutdown of wunderlist, I made the move. From the moment I started using this app it has been frustrating. The option to port from wunderlist failed repeatedly and when it did work resulted in a lot of duplicated lists. My husband and I share a lot of lists so we had to go through to delete many lists and then manually invite on each individual list. The in app experience is also glitchy, keeps resurfacing my completed tasks even when I’ve switched this off and the synchronisation is super super bad. It has also appeared to suffer some critical failures where the app has just fallen over and died requiring a reopen. Also the default notifications are way over the top and just annoying. What was the point of taking a high performing well loved app and just ruining it? I just don’t get it. Why?
Honestly the top ToDo App. Hands down, this is the best ToDo app I’ve used, and i’ve tried and failed with many. This app is completely free and integrates with Outlook effortlessly. My only feedback would be with daily tasks. It seems counterintuitive to have to set a task ‘daily’ and then unset it when it stops being a task, there should be a way where you can set a task as daily, weekly, or monthly for a set period. The app also doesn’t let you set ToDo’s for tomorrows daily tasks the day before. That means during a ‘stressful’ night where you just want to pop in your tasks for the day after you can’t, instead you need you set it as an overall ToDo and then shift it into the My Day the following day. A part from that, I’d recommend this app over any other I’ve tried!
A disappointing replacement for Wunderlist. Works fine providing you don’t want to share a list with someone. If you do, this rather bizarrely insists that you can’t do it unless they’re from the same organisation as you, or you both have exactly the same type of Microsoft account. So if, like me, you’ve been forced to switch to this app because Wunderlist doesn’t exist anymore, and you only ever used Wunderlist to share shopping lists with your partner, AND both of your Microsoft accounts are work-related when your Wunderlist ones weren’t, this app is pointless for you. It’s a very strange “feature” to adopt when that essentially cripples the potential user base for To Do. Even if you’re not switching from Wunderlist, which had no such restrictions and just worked, why would anyone want there to be a restriction on who they could use this with, when there’s no benefit to there being one? As such, this is a good app that is totally useless to me now and I’ll be looking to replace it, when I’d only ever gotten it to replace an app I was previously happy with.
Great but no Watch App?. Would love to see this made available in a simple format for the Apple Watch. Only down fall I have experienced so far. Without it I lean towards another app to use for things like a shopping list, easier to check the watch than juggle my phone. Love the my day feature. Would be good to be able to have an option of things reoccurring to appear in ‘my day’ whenever relevant rather than manually choosing it to show but like that it doesn’t force everything due that day on there as well. Manageable without but might be a nice little added option.
It’s good but not quite what I need. I believe it’s a good app for noting down all the things you need to do. However, the reason I downloaded this app instead of simply putting it on my notes or writing it down was so that I would remember it easier. Being a student, there are lots of things going on and I often forget that I have something due. I found out that this app had notifications as well, so I thought it would be useful. However, the notifications are not easy to set. If you manage to set them, they only end up notifying you once or twice. I often procrastinate and so when I see these notifications, I remember to do them but I don’t actually do them. Something helpful would be to send additional notifications that ask whether or not the task has been done. If it has, then the task will be deleted (there will also be an option to keep it). If it hasn’t been done, then the task should be notified again and again.
Why not just rebadge Wunderlist? This app is a poor alternative. I had used Wunderlist for years and assumed once MS acquired the company it would be usefully linked with the MS family of productivity apps to address their lack of a task manager on mobile devices. For MS Office 365 subscribers this would have been a great way to improve cross platform computing options (given how well Wunderlist had achieved cross platform functionality), and also advertise MS as being more consumer friendly. Unfortunately this resulting MS taskmanager is a poor alternative. Many of the things which made Wunderlist great are missing. Having tried it briefly I have now switched with some reservations to Google keep. At least I can share tasks and add images to reminders/checklists As with MS Outlook and the acquisition of Sunrise calendars for iOS, the initial development looked promising, however the many requested features (via their in app feedback option) go unanswered - ultimately for years. Why is this the case when they have already acquired a product which has these features buit in?? Look elsewhere for an app with significant ongoing development.
What’s happened to the alphabetic function?. I was really pleased with this app until I checked my grocery listings today. Previously the alphabetic sorting function applied to both the “Completed” list and the new list I was making. Making up a new list was a simple matter of going into Completed items and scrolling down alphabetically to easily select what I needed. No longer however! Now, I can only sort my new list. The Completed items are all over the place so it becomes a time-consuming “hunt and peck” exercise to find what I want. Huge loss of efficiency and extremely frustrating when something that was working so well is changed, resulting in an inferior product. Change it back please!
Brilliant!. We’ve severe ADHD, I really struggle to retain anything much. But with this app I can use it so easily because it’s so simple with nice colours and very easy to use. It’s great because on the phone or on my computer whenever I have a thought. I could just quickly, put it down. I used to just use Apple notes but I would never actually look at them and forget about everything I put in there. But this seems like something I will use for a long time.
Good but not great. Have been using Todo over a year and find it to be useful for keeping track of tasks while working from home. One aspect that lets this app down is the devs have not enabled home screen widgets for iOS14. Todo has a user interface to obtain feedback on user requests for future upgrades (which is a good idea), the widgets for iOS14 has over 10,000 votes. Despite saying the are working on it, they have not rolled it out yet (Feb 21). MS Outlook introduced widgets early on and Todoist has also introduced them. It would be good if this app could keep up with the market, otherwise users might shift way to alternatives that provide the features users want.
Good app, but could be improved. This is a good app, but it needs improving. For instance, the "My Day" feature. This is a well-meaning feature, but the only thing I don't like about it is that if a task is not added to your day, no matter how important it is, the app never reminds you of it. If this is a necessary feature, can it please be a default one? Also, can there please be a Microsoft To-Do widget? I personally find it easier if I see the tasks I need to do in a day in more places than just in an app, and I can't be the only one who says that.
Generally good. Notifications need improvement. This app is generally very good. I especially like the fact that you can login on the web via your Microsoft account and manage your tasks on a web browser. The UI is also very pleasant, and you can assign tasks to the Today list to plan your day. However, this app cannot match the iOS Reminders App when it comes to notifications and reminders. For example, I can set the iOS Reminders to alert me of a task at a preset time and date. I can also set for the reminder to repeat every day, weekly etc. The Microsoft ToDo app cannot seem to do this as well. You can set a reminder for a time and date. However, the reminder pops up on the screen and disappears thereafter. With the iOS Reminders, the tasks remain showing in your home & previews screen so that you’re constantly reminded about the task.
Glitches & improvements. I love the app, could be improved for the way we use it. On iPhone, Re arranging the tasks in a list takes multiple times, app closes back to Home Screen and regularly need to delete app and re install. Would be great to be able to allocate the colour to each user. Would be great to be able if app asked before I completing a task as I need the completed dates and this is lost when accidentally marked in completed. Also completed tasks would be great in order that they were completed. When searching, would be great if all incomplete tasks were at top of search, not mixed all through.
Terrible Terrible Terrible. Had previously been the biggest advocate of Wunderlist. Used to tell people it would change their lives. Got notified the was changing to To Do List. How hard can it be you say, what could possibly go wrong you say. LOTS. Terrible migrate, can’t join my wife to the lists. Keeps giving me a notification that we have to be in the same organization to share lists. It’s terrible. I eventually fixed it - I DELETED THE APP. Well done app developers. Took something great and stuffed it. Only gave 1star as it won’t let you give 0. Do not use this app.
Highly adaptable. I love that I can use it for links or notes and it’s instantly available on all my devices, so transferring notes and information is easy. References, reminders, lists for packing, travel, weight records, questions to ask at an interview or appointment, recipes, journal notes, self improvement reminders, timetables. This practically runs my life. My only wish is to be able to choose to have a deletion warning on some or all lists as it’s too easy to accidentally delete items.
Very disappointing and difficult compared to Wunderlisr. We migrated to To-Do from Wunderlist and have found it frustrating and difficult to use. Every time I try to edit an item in a list it simply ticks it off and disappears it instead and it is impossible to find - completed items used to appear at the bottom if you did this, now you have to go ‘show completed tasks’ and they appear throughout your ENTIRE list, meaning the accidentally ticked item is impossible to find (and now lost forever). It also doesn’t keep list sorting throughout this process, meaning you have to go back and forth to sort the lists once you hide or unhide completed tasks. Basically a complete and utter frustrating mess and losing critical items is a massive problem.
It’s not me; it’s you. I absolutely love this app so much, as it is so easy to use, has everything in one app and can even be used to collaborate with the whole family. If only it didn’t consistently crash ALL THE TIME. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting suggestions on all the forums, as have many other users, to no avail. There are so many people that this is effecting, that troubleshooting is not working for; please accept that it is an application issue, not a user issue and fix it, so it can go back to being an amazing app, that is otherwise unrivalled, in my opinion.
Great but missing function on phone. I really love using this app, however I’m wondering why there isn’t a “sort by categories” function like there is on the PC. I use this app soley for that function because I think it’s really great and amazing, keeps everything organised. Please add this function too on phone, and maybe any other additional organisational function like being able to easily drag tasks into said categories (creating a categories header where u can just drag tasks into or something). It becomes quite troublesome when there’s a lot of tasks to write but you have to manually click each of them into a category.
Great tool and an essential need.. I have been using the To-Do app for nearly six months, and it is now an important part of my daily routine. I list tasks to be addressed and set the due dates for other tasks. The app is easy to navigate and manage. I would highly recommend it to everyone. In the fast world we live in, I can keep track of what is required of me from time to time. I am 75 years old.
Pleasantly surprised. I was understandably sceptical when I heard the excellent Wunderlist was being deprecated in favour of Microsoft’s ToDo, but I’m happy to say that my experience so far had been nothing but positive. The export process from Wunderlist was quick and painless. It has a very slick and intuitive GUI and contains almost all the functions that were there in Wunderlist with, dare I say, a better presentation. The Windows app is also excellent. My only real gripe is the lack of widgets and Apple Watch support. With those two features, it’d be the perfect to do app.
Caution: late adopters beware. Apple hardware can be long-lived. For those of us who rarely buy new iphones, there's a risk your version of this app may stop working reliably, with loss of data. As we know, developers stop maintaining an app on one platform but the old version keeps working. I still have an old version of iOS (12) with an old, once usable version (2.40) of this app. I'd used the app for years and watched it get bloated. However I'd got used to keeping not just todo lists but long lists of other info in it because I'd liked the interface. A couple of years ago I got messages from the developers to upgrade urgently to a new version or risk losing data but whenever I tried to, the App Store kept insisting I already had the latest version. Besides the iphone, I had it on 2 computers running different OS versions and the App Store said the same about all of them. When the ultimatum in the warnings expired I still hadn't solved this. After that the app still appeared to work OK. Only over time did I see that new data on each device had not been syncing with others! I contacted MS and they said, just get a new iphone. When I want to write something the iphone's usually at hand and I kept using this one on it alone while Iooked for another app I liked. Gradually it got unreliable with even that. The last straw was when I deleted a word from one entry in a list and just lost the whole list. At last I've discovered the free bare-bones app that does what I want reliably: Apple's Reminders. Now how to get all data I still have into it? The only export function available is to another (commercial) MS product and...
Stalled development. Microsoft could improve this app substantially, and they have ample user feedback on what features to add, but there’s just no development happening. To be fair, it’s a good app, but it’s opinionated about how you should structure your to-dos (wanting you to use smart lists), and it could be terrific if they just implemented the most-requested improvements. I also encountered a game-breaking sync and log-in error that forced me to switch to another app for a couple of months, and not even our IT team could identify the problem. It eventually resolved itself, somehow.
Where has this been all my life?. I love this app. I have it as a widget on my iPhone as a constant reminder of things to do. It also sits like a widget on my work laptop so it’s become my only to do list for work and home. Syncs seemlessly. The My Day feature means I don’t get overwhelmed with everything listed, just todays things. And the auto reminder when you type a time is, makes it so easy. Genuinely (sadly) excited by this app.
I’d be lost without it! Amazing app for productivity. Absolutely love this app, really amazing. My only real beef with the app is that even though it syncs tasks across devices, the themes and customisations you set don’t carry over, similarly if you remove the app or get a new device you also need to reset all of the custom themes/photos and colours you’ve set for lists. It’s not a huge deal, just mildly annoying as I’m someone who works on colour coding and making things aesthetically pleasing so they don’t overwhelm or overstimulate me. The app is really intuitive especially with suggestions for the next day/s and the ability to carry over tasks. It’s easy to find missed tasks which helps my anxiety. I run my 2 small businesses and my everyday life off of Microsoft to do, it’s a clean interface and is great for me because I can carry it everywhere on my phone/laptop etc. I haven’t been back to paper planners in almost 3-4 years because of this app. It saves me so much stress and money. Works well with my Mac and my iPhone 16 pro max
Not happy. Another former Wunderlist user for many years. I thought this would be the same, but alas no. On Wunderlist when you tick something off the list it disappears and you are left with only the tasks that need to be attended to. Simple. With a Microsoft To Do list when you tick them off a line is drawn through them. You need to go back and Edit by ticking all you want to delete. Time consuming and messy.
Thought it would be the same as wunderlist, was wrong. I was forced to migrate from wunderlist which served our family well over the years. Aethestically the new Todo app looks nice. In moving across was painful with all the duplicate lists being created across shared devices where the sharing linkages were broken. Syncing was slow, and it literally took hrs to setup for a handful of shared lists. Almost endlessly syncing. Seems that the tick boxes are more vulnerable to be accidently clicked. I accidentally competed multiple tasks while shopping with one hand on the trolley. This was not a prob with wunderlist and you could show the deleted tasks which or ordered chronologically from when they were deleted. Now when deleted tasks are shown, they aren’t sorted, they are just strewn almost completely randomly throughout hundreds of active and competed tasks. I have no idea what I have accidently pressed to bring them back. That’s why I have a task list, so I can unload it from my mind.
Known issue on iPad & iPhone. I like most of the features, but Microsoft is a frustrating company. There are many forum entries with issues around crashing To Do app (iPhone & iPad) and solutions that don’t work. As I mainly use my iPad, having one app that crashes after a minute makes it unusable. Doesn’t crash on my iPhone like others have reported. The background refresh doesn’t seem to work either. Decades ago I remember hearing “Microsoft doesn’t do things for its customers, it does things to them”. I wish they spent more energy on the backend rather than the aesthetics.
Fan of (the now defunct) Wunderlist. To Do likes: • Import from Wunderlist worked • Theme/Background customisation of lists. • Can move ‘Step’ to make ‘Task’ (though too much press and holding actions involved). To Do dislikes: • Input field at bottom of screen feels unintuitive. • Too many steps involved in setting a custom reminder day & time. • Would be good to have a default reminder option in settings. • Can’t subscribe to calendar (task reminders sync with iOS calendar). • Too many steps to view completed tasks and they show up amongst incomplete tasks. • Moving a Step to the List has too many press-and-hold actions. Could add to the List when the List name flashes, instead of waiting til the List opens - which is fine for moving to other List). • Can’t move Task to make a Step. • Font styling on Main screen is awful (it’s nice within Lists). And can’t change theme/background. • Not much Smart List customisation in settings
Very useful planner and to do list. The seamless integration with outlook, Teams, Planner makes this the one place to coordinate all of your outstanding tasks to be done. Couple of suggestions to improve the functionality: - Diary entry for recording purposes that can be searched in future for reference to previous outcomes - the ability to assign a task to someone else within the To do app (not having to go to planned or outlook etc) - make it possible to pre-load future days, even just tomorrow & Monday (for when it’s the weekend and your planning the start of your coming week)
Suggested enhancement.. App is generally bulletproof. Had a few excellent different apps over the years which sadly have vanished, presumably not keeping up with upgrades. One thing which would really make this app hum is the ability for tasks to appear on multiple lists. For example I need a pump filter for my boat. I have a task list for the boat and one for the chandlery where I buy parts for my boat. If the task “filter” could appear on the boat list amd the chandlery list at the same time, that would be awesome. Similarly, “detergent” that appears on my house list, farm list amd grocery list at the same time means I could be at the grocers and see I need to buy detergent for both the farm and home. Sounds petty but when your task list runs to over a hundred items, it makes it so much easier.
Fabulous app but needs Apple Watch widget for the new SmartStack. This is a great app - I love the My Day feature which always shows anything I’ve previously set for that day. Would be 5 starts except it still needs: - an Apple Watch widget for the new smartstack in WatchOS10. Please add this quickly! So needed - the ability to add subcategories within a list, like Apple Reminders has just added - the ability to add a default reminder time setting for when you select “Remind Me” in a task Otherwise it’s pretty much perfect. Love that it can be used across all my devices and operating systems too! Great product!
Good but could be great. I’ve used other tools for a few years now but switched over to have the automation power to cut down time setting up tasks from emails. A couple of improvements would help speed up manual activities - allow creating a task from the Mac iOS version and not the “flag” capability as this separates the “tasks” versus “flags” so you are managing two lists which is not efficient. You can only do this from mobile iOS. Also when you create a task from outlook mobile iOS, being able to set a date would avoid having to go to that task in To Do. Also a folder for overdue would help.
Simple improvements needed. An okay to do list app that desperately needs some simple improvements: Items needed - geo location to do items (reminders based on location) - recurring tasks is allowed, but it doesn’t seem like the alarm/reminder is also repeated so you need to re set it if you want reminders - you can have an overall to do list for the day, but you have to physically move everything for that day on that day. Ie it doesn’t automatically take items you have previously scheduled for a certain date, and you can’t add items for your to do list the day before (I’d like to set my to do list for tomorrow so I can get going straight away, but I have to set up my to do list every morning instead of the night before).
Pathetic. Why would you make us switch from Wunderlist to this. You would think it would be easier to use and have more features. Can’t get rid of the sound every time I check an item off my list and why do I have to not only check an item off my list but then delete it and then delete it again to be sure I wanted to delete it? So frustrating. Bring back Wunderlist. It worked perfectly fine. Now I’ll have to find another app to use. This doesn’t deserve even a one star rating. Grrrrr
Absolutely love the app. I just wanted to write a review on how great this app is. I am in Yr 10 and this has absolutely changed my school life. I am so much more organised with tests and assessments and have recommended this to friends. I have completed so many tasks by putting them into different task lists to achieve my goals. If there was one thing I would add, it would be to have the ability to add tasks to the next day or the day after that instead of only being able to write tasks in ‘My Day’ for today.
Like shared grocery list. My sister recommended this app. I keep several private lists, but my favourite is the grocery list that is shared with the rest of the family. They can add items anytime. The items disappear when I tick them off at the store, which makes it so easy to see what I still need to get. My daughter showed me how to click on an item to see who added it, in case I need to ask questions (like “what TYPE of yoghurt do you want?) Because we live in the country, I also keep lists of what I want to get when I travel further afield. It is like a memory list, but without having to keep track of bits of paper.
Works well but room for improvements. There are many items in the wish list for the To Do app. For example, there doesn't appear a way to show tasks on the calendar, so need to keep switching between task and calendar view. More customization required for grid and list view layouts. A commenting feature with history would be nice to have. As a personal user, we miss out on using Microsoft planner, wish some of those features were integrated with to do. The app works well cross platform and syncs well across devices. Also great to have access to onedrive directly from the app.
Significant synchronisation problem. So we moved to this from Wunderlist. We didn’t want to but we had to because they will be shunting it down and some times the items were not synced correctly. So I decided to migrate to Microsoft To-Do since they were build by the same team which in theory should be smooth and the synching problem should get better because presumably they would have spent more resource on this instead of Wunderlist. Oh my god I was wrong. First all my shared lists when imported became two copies in each account. We have about 20 of them. So we had to go into one account and invite the other account. And in the other account join the list and delete the list with the same name. So naturally we did this on a computer. Then it took days for my iPhone and iPad to be all in sync. Meanwhile my wife started using it already. But the items in our shared groceries list is like a week old. Then I tried to rejoin the list, deleting 5k completed items and rejoin the list to a point that the app would fail at joining the list and suggest me contacting customer support. At last we decided just to create a brand new list for groceries. We created it on my wife’s phone. Then I joined the list. Then my wife added a bunch of items and added a emoji to the name. That’s 3 hours ago. The list on my phone is still empty and no emojis. By the way, one the Mac, the deleted list is still there.

So buggy, terrible UX. Drag and drop is quite awful. You can’t drag something to the end of the list. You have to do stupid hacks to move things to the 2nd last position twice. iOS autocorrect, as we all know, sucks, and when it corrects your grocery list item “tamari” to “Yamato” you need to tap like 3 times to edit it or you need to delete it and recreate it. Terrible UX. I thought I’d give it a try since I know Microsoft acquired Wunderlist but WL was a much better experience. Deleting.
Good, but unstable. The app does what it needs to as a basic to-do list app. I find it’s been unstable for the past few months as it crashes randomly and frequently during use.

More positive review. Microsoft fixed the problem about importing checked items from Wunderlist. Thank you! Microsoft corrected what Wunderlist never could: checked items stay in alphabetical order as the list itself. 5 stars! And what about an “uncheck all” option? I would prefered to check a square than a circle. Who checks circles? PLEASE add support for Apple Watch! I would like to check off my list at the supermarket without having to take out my phone.
Great if you have memory problems. I have memory problems and this app works great to keep track of chores that I need to do.

Plus de commentaires, plus possible d’avoir mes tâches faites en dessous dans un onglet ouvert/fermé, obligé de les masquer complètement et pour les afficher il faut faire beaucoup trop de push. De plus l’importation supprime les accès aux personnes invitées dans les notes partagées. Il faut les réinviter et encore la ça bug. Vraiment dommage. Wunderlist va me manquer.
Retired & Productive. The best I’ve ever used. Question to developers — it will be great if I can flag an item that allows me to add to my calendar. Similar way to My Day, but gets reflected to my Calendar on a specific day and time.
Great App! Missing one thing though...... Missing categories found in outlook. If it had the ability to do that then this app would be 5 stars. It is very easy to add tasks and set reminders etc.
Weekly repeats. When I select every week on Sat, it will display Fri & Sat. Please fix, thanks.

Terrible version of Wunderlist. This app is absolutely terrible. Significant issues sharing lists which is the main reason our family used Wunderlist which was bought by Microsoft. Too bad the product is significantly inferior. Would NOT recommend!
Works well - needs interface improvement. Good app for basic task tracking and prioritizing. Would love the ability to drag and drop tasks on top of each other to create sub tasks. If you already have a Microsoft office subscription this is a good enough to do tracker.
Note Section at bottom. Why the change to a perfectly working Note Section and the Bottom, used to be able to Copy and Paste Addresses and Phone Numbers there, and easily go to the Link created to Maps and for Calling the Phone number pasted? I was 5 Star, but this change?
Vital app!!. Everything I need and the only feature it’s missing is the ability to drag tasks into a specific order. Beyond that, it’s perfect!
Good but could be better. I like that our lists are shared between chosen people. Very handy for Christmas shopping, event planning and grocery shopping. I had wunderlist and was quite happy with it. This is good. A few things could make it great. Being able to drag and drop items right up down or wherever in you list would be good. The today list is helpful. But a tomorrow list would be great. One that automatically transfers to today after midnight.
Fix for iPhone. This has been my go to app forever and when it works it’s great. However for the last few months it’s been virtually unusable. It constantly crashes and causes my phone to hang. Quite frankly, this is unacceptable from something labelled as being from Microsoft!
Poor replacement for Wunderlist!. No possibility to reorganize items within a list. When sharing a list, one is not notified when their partner add an item to the list or check an item.
Keeps Crashing. With all the concerns with the app closing while in the app, it’s time to fix this Microsoft. I have a lot of lists here and I’m hoping to keep it on this app but this is frustrating.

Not good. When you create a task and make an error, you cannot correct it without having to delete and rewrite it. Cannot add attachments. Even though you completed your tasks, it doesn’t automatically delete it, and you have to delete them one by one. No settings option to make adjustments. Now that I wrote these out, I’m downgrading my headline to terrible.
Great App - Missing sort by Categories. Good integration with OUtlook, but you lose the power of the task categories in the TO DO APP. As a MINIMUM we should be able to sort the task by categories. Having categories on the left panel would awesome.
Crashing?!. I use my ToDo on my iPhone 13 and it keeps on crashing. I tried reinstalling app! I wrote to the company and they offered to help and then I didn't hear from them. No problem on my desktop.
Easy and User Friendly. The best organizer I would say. You cam keep all your schedules and plans at one place. Email syncing is one of the best feature.
Wunderlist is better. Still not sure why they have shut Wunderlist down for this app. Wunderlist was superior, had a nicer interface, and didn’t require yet another account. Not a fan. Bring back Wunderlist.
Not useful. I used Wunderlist without issue for 3 years. It shared lists between whom ever I added. I could add shopping items to the list while my husband was shopping and he would see the updates immediately. Microsoft To Do did not do any of the above in a timely or straightforward manner. Microsoft should’ve stuck with what Wunderlist had already perfected. Finding a new list app.
It’s getting me to do things!. I’ve tried reminders and such before, but they never seemed to work half as well as this one does. I use a Windows 10 PC for both work and personal stuff. My problem was many checklist apps didn’t have good windows versions. I don’t look at my phone a ton, so any reminder that needed me to look at my phone went missing until it was too late in the day. With the iOS app and the windows app combined, I’m able to add items from my phone, and complete things and see them updated on my desktop app. As well as vice versa. The list is always displayed on one of the other monitors so it’s always there to remind me. I know there are other apps that do that, but they were either too cumbersome or had a bad PC interface (if any at all) but this feels solid all around. My only recommendations: - the task complete sound hurts my ears it’s so bad. Please change it to something less painful. - (RESOLVED: thanks!) please allow us to add a widget to the iOS Home Screen so I don’t have to open the app to look at my lists
2000 % preferred the previous set up app !. It worked much👍🏻. Much easier to use. When using with other Family members , this new app is frustrating & not as user friendly.
Not as good as wonderlist. This app is not as user friendly as wonderlist was. For now I’m still looking for a replacement.
Great but could be better. To-do is a great app. I use it almost daily to keep track of my daily tasks. It would be better if tasks for ‘My Day’ could be added the day/night before that day, as I often plan my days the night before. Other than that it is great.

Awesome Task Tracking App. I’ve been using this app from the beginning and it is so robust. I like the “My Day” categorization that allows you to assign a number of your tasks to today’s view only which allows focus, a key requirement for accomplishment. Also allows multiple accounts so you can separate your tasks by account as well. The feed in from MS Planner is also a very useful functionality. All-in-all a very comprehensive and useful app in your accomplishment journey!!

Why do I have to get a Microsoft account to use it?!. I was happy using Wunderlist in peace until acquired by Microsoft and now I have to start an outlook account for it? Nonsense.
Microsoft TODO. I use a todo list regularly and like simple, that is why I used Wunderlist. Have you considered adding a function that would copy a list. I keep all lists but some are recurring but not 100 as the original. The ability to copy a list or a task would be good Thank you
This is my daily compass. Every evening I add tasks into My Day by quickly scanning 3 of my main lists: Personal, Business, and Other. This app helps to add incredible organization and structure to our very busy life.
Calendar option would be nice. I’d love to view my scheduled items in a calendar view at times. I think it’d be so helpful visually

No words enough to describe the utility of this free app Don’t create loose tasks, just build the habit of organizing your tasks in lists and groups all the time Also try to utilize the “steps” feature within the tasks Once I understood how this app work, within few hours, this app became my primary daily (personal and business) organizer.
Microsoft bought Wunderlist and abandonded it. Theres nothing new and most importantly BETTER about this app than any other todo, its a lite version of Wunderlist. its buggy, you cant attach files to tasks, you cant share tasks with another person.
Refuses to open. Amazing app, love that you can make many lists, make tasks recurring and change themes of lists to your own pictures. However, I just downloaded the app last night and every time I try to open it, it crashes and doesn’t open. Would love to see a bug fix for this issue, as it’s kinda unusable for me at the moment
Not User Friendly. I’ve had this problems with several Microsoft products as well as others. It automatically signs you out quite often. When you go to sign back in your info doesn’t work and you need to create a new password every time.
Amazing app - To Do. The “TO DO” app is amazing. It’s helps to plan, stay organized, prioritize tasks and go paperless. This has improved my health in some ways.
Garbage. Don’t waste your time. We used Wunderlist and recently Microsoft merged it with ‘to do’ and the new platform is complete garbage.

Love this app. There are many options for To Do apps out there but this one does so much for no cost. It’s actually better than a lot of the paid apps I’ve tried. The function of having today’s todo list and having start over the next day with suggestions of the things you missed is amazing. Combine that with setting deadlines, reminders, notes and sub tasks are just some of the other amazing functions. I don’t know what this was like years ago with the bad reviews, but they must have put a lot of effort into it because it is amazing now.

Great App!. I suffer with attention issues so I am always looking for a way to keep on top of organization that is as frictionless as possible. This app is the best one I’ve found so far. -Request- I do however wish that there was an easier way to move un sorted tasks into folders. Multiple (5) button presses to sort a task may not sound like a lot but if a user is inputting new tasks on the fly during the day (as I assume most do) then this time adds up. I suggest that this be added to the task editing view itself rather than just in the list editing view as it is now.

Great App - Please consider some Improvements!. I am using this App since many years (even before it was bought by Microsoft and was still the Wunderlist App). I use it EVERY day for work and in my private life. I honestly can‘t imagine organizing my stuff without it anymore. Really thankful to have it. It provides so many opportunities and syncing between different devices and people is a big plus. As a frequent user I have some items to report that could be improved. Please see list below. 1) There is no way to sort the steps inside a task. A function for that would be most helpful (sorting options should be: alphabetically, most recently used, most recently added). 2) We figured out under which circumstances the App shows only the unchecked steps or all (i.e., checked and unchecked). We are both quite experienced in IT, so I am optimistic we did not miss a system setting. It would be really great if this function (show only unchecked and show all) would be added for the steps. At the moment it appears randomly and we have no idea how to turn it on or off aside from removing the App from the cache and re-opening it. 3) There seems to be no easy way to copy/paste to does between lists or duplicate lists (and steps). Thanks for considering
Doesn’t hold a candle to Wunderlist. I have been a happy user of Wunderlist for the last couple of years. It’s an exceptional app for organizing your to do list. There was another reviewer that hit the nail on the head with this. The biggest flaw with this To-Do app is that you cannot organize and categorize your tasks in a given day. Why have smart list if your app won’t organize them by smart list? It doesn’t make sense. In the Wunderlist app you enter tasks, you categorize them and then for any given day all the things that you need to do for the day are grouped in the different categories. it’s a simple concept and shouldn’t be too difficult to enable. For example if you go to the grocery store, you don’t go in with a list that has everything all mixed up on one long list. In order to be efficient, you typically will group things by area in the store. You’ll put all of your vegetables together all of your dairy etc. That way you’re not running around the store in a disorganized fashion and missing things on your list. Same thing with managing your daily tasks. It takes way too many brain cells to try to jumble everything up. They need to be categorized so that your brain doesn’t have to do too much work. Very disappointed in this app and I hope Wunderlist stays around in the ether for a while so I can continue to use it. Will have to find something else because To-Do does not cut it.
Love! Made things easier especially during breakdowns!. Microsoft To Do is simple, easy-to-use and definitely helped me list what needed to be done even through breakdowns. That is to say even half a task may take me 7 hours...or 3 days...or a months...you get the point. I used to handwrite my to-do lists but that eventually stopped working for me because I have big Mental Illness™ after a few months or so and To-Do has been the only (for the most part) consistent thing I've used! The app is pretty good, it's essentially a mini version of the desktop one but I prefer the desktop one more because sometimes it has issues syncing and/or connecting to wifi. But again, thanks Microsoft!✨
Wunderlist vs To Do. I’d like to echo the sentiments in the review below entitled “Doesn’t hold a candle to Wunderlist.” In addition to the issue about listing items in “My Day” on the day they are due, I am also disappointed that when you change a due date, the reminder doesn’t automatically update. This was a great feature in Wunderlist which I took for granted until forced to try To Do (as Wunderlist will be discontinued by Microsoft). When changing the due date of an item in To Do, one has to take the 2 extra steps of re-entering the reminder day and time. For example, I updated an overdue task for a future date. Wunderlist would automatically update the reminder date/time to 9am of the new due date. In To Do, the reminder date/time remains in the past (literally says “Remind me at 10am yesterday”) and the quick options in the reminder pick list (“later today”, “tomorrow,” “next week”) are not helpful if the new due date is say a month away. One has to: click on reminders, select “pick a date and time”, scroll to the correct month (it defaults to the past month) and finally pick the new reminder date/time. I hope MS will address this limitation on To Do
Perfect for me. I am one of those people who keep trying different organizational apps and systems. I’ve found this one best meets my needs for on that is not cluttered and great for the day to day lists I make. I love creating a project list of tasks, giving the a date or making a more detailed sub-list, giving it a date or not. The best part is starting each My Day with a clean slate and adding the tasks with recommendations from the app. I love I can set up my day before I leave for work from my iPad then check off the list as I go from the desktop at work. The only thing I would add, or haven’t discovered how to do, is to archive my completed list for future use, especially for an annual work event. I don’t like the look of the long list of completed projects and don’t want to delete them.
Best TODO App I've Found & Constantly Improving. I really like all of the features this app has to offer. The lists, list groupings, and colors allow me to easily organize my TODOs. The "My Day", "Important", and "Completed" lists help me prioritize my TODOs in a way that is manageable. I like how new features are openly discussed on the "UserVoice" platform. Over the past couple years I've noticed a substantial increase in the reliability of the app's syncing algorithm. There used to be some issues when syncing between computers and mobile devices, where TODO items would get lost or would fail to be updated, but these have largely disappeared due to past updates. Thank you for creating this app and for putting thought into it's design! I use it every day! :)
Almost Perfect. I really enjoy this app as it has improved my ability to manage work tasks. However, there are two main items missing for me: 1) The ability to easily see what Tasks (and Steps) were completed during a specified time frame. This would be useful in meetings when sharing out recently completed items. 2) The ability to schedule due dates for Steps. This would provide flexibility in the way individuals choose to use the app. For example: my tasks are commonly medium sized project, which would benefit from multiple due dates. I could achieve this functionality by making a new list for each medium sized project, but it seems a bit cumbersome to do so. Overall, I am thrilled with the app and its place in the Microsoft ecosystem. Just looking for it to grow a little more.
Extremely Disappointed with the Sorting Features. I would give this app 5 stars if only after sorting by importance, I could then sort the list more finely by moving the important items in the order I want them. I could do this with Wunderlist, but I can’t do it with Microsoft To Do. I really don’t understand why it is so hard for the Microsoft team to make this change. I use the list for groceries and I have a over 200 items. By starring the items I want, it moves them to the top of the list. But then they are all a jumble. Thus if I have 20 items on my grocery list, I constantly have to be scanning the list and I find myself walking back and forth around the store because the list is not in order. If I were able to sort the grocery items I want to buy, by aisle, after sorting them by importance, it would make the shopping process so much easier and more efficient. I am pleading with you Microsoft, to make this change.
Bleh. I was a Wunderlist user and I used it for very simple things - groceries, personal to-do’s, etc. Light, simple use. Loved Wunderlist. I’ve experienced Issues with this app that seem very basic to me, though. For example: - Synching is buggy. I share several lists with my wife and somehow we end up with lists that aren’t exactly the same sometimes. Just got home from the grocery store, wife’s list has hamburger buns, mine didn’t. Watched as we synched again and still not on my list. Of course additional trips to the grocery store are now not so routine. - when I toggle the app to show items crossed off a list, that works. When I toggle back to not showing them it freezes. Every. Single. Time. - it won’t let me move something to the very bottom of the list. Have to move it to second to last, then move the last item up one. - seems very easy to inadvertently cross something off when scrolling compared to Wunderlist. - the nesting feature seems nice in concept, but it’s very easy to accidentally nest something under another to-do item when moving things around on an iPhone, and for the life of me I can’t figure out how to un-nest it. So, stuck with deleting it and adding it again. I would expect some bugs from a fairly new app but seems like Microsoft should be able to do better than the average little app builder. So, we’re gonna use Wunderlist until we can’t then find something else.
Finding another to do app today. I also moved to this app from Wunderlist, unfortunately. This app doesn’t do anything the same way. I’m a simple person and really only use it for my grocery list, not all the reminders and scheduling that others talk about. But this app can’t even get a grocery list right. I buy many of the same things week after week, month after month. So when you check an item off, it doesn’t move to the bottom automatically to get it out of the way. And when you uncheck an item, it doesn’t move back to the top automatically. You can move it manually if you don’t have any kind of filter on, but that can be a lot of items to move. And you can’t manually move items up and down if any filters are on. Starring an item only puts it in another list altogether rather than moving it to the top of the current list as a priority. I will be downloading a different to do list app today. This was a horrible recommendation from Wunderlist.
Average Features but it could be good… stable but dull app. If you want a really good task manager this is not it... this is an average task manager... it is horribly watered-down, for instance with one level of task break-down, then to details which are steps, not tasks ... a decent task manager would have many more levels of managed task within task... The features for prioritization (minimal, silly) and tagging are non-existent... I could go on and on, but u get the point that this is a 3, at best, that candidly could be much more... The UI is also built to child-like user expectations, rather than for people who want function and detail, from their perspective (how to slice and dice their ability to do task management with filters for information, for instance, not homogenized UI’s with no sophistication… this is a kiddie task app… ONE level of tasks and then useless step structure.
Bring Back Sorted Completed Tasks!!. THANK YOU FOR FIXING THIS!! OMG! My biggest complaint about Wunderlist was that the completed tasks weren’t sorted and it was difficult with grocery lists which needed to be regenerated. ToDo kept all tasks sorted and you had a choice to see or hide them which was a big improvement over Wunderlist. The last updated ruined this valuable feature. Bring sorted completed tasks back and my review will be 5 stars. Every time I have to repeatedly go through about 150 items in my grocery list trying to find and reactivate the now unsorted completed items I wonder how the app developers who obviously don’t use the app for repeating tasks can be so clueless as to eliminate one of the apps best features.
What were they thinking??. It’s as if they didn’t consult with anyone that actually uses Outlook and it’s task and to do bar functions before creating this useless program. I run a small business and have to keep my arms around hundreds of tasks that I must constantly re-prioritize as priorities change. Being able to manage this within the same program as email and calendar is absolutely necessary due to the large volume of tasks and emails involved. I often attach emails to tasks. This To Do app that they are forcing us to use now is horrible. It is not really integrated with Outlook and it is not possible to attach emails that can be opened from the app. Toggling between two programs, Outlook and To Do, is so inefficient and useless for me that I am considering just finding a completely separate third-party app to manage tasks with. If I have to use a separate app for my task list anyway it might be one that works better than this horribly designed to do.
A disaster. I loved the To Do app. I used it first when it was just Wunderlist. Then one day it would not allow me to log in on my computer. I changed the password so that I could log in, but then it would not allow me to log in on my phone with the new password! I over a thousand lines of text in that app. I called Microsoft support to see if they could solve my problem, but they just told me that they had no such app and had never heard of it and that I had to call the developer. The way I finally solved the problem—if you could call it a solution—was to screenshot all 68 pages of lists for safe keeping. Then, since I had access only on my computer, I started copying every line to Reminders on my iPhone instead. It has been two months now, and I have only had time to transfer three or four lists to reminders. These lists included notes to myself about starting my own business, and it would be a tremendous loss to lose this information. I will never use a second party list app again! I wish I could give it a negative 5 stars.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. a couple ideas for future updates though!. I use this almost everyday to cope with my ADHD & undiagnosed OCD! I do have some ideas for the app though. I wish I could make groups within lists as an organizing technique. Almost like a drop down menu I can create inside of a list. For example, I have a list for food places I want to try. I’d like to be able to organize the restaurants by type, expense, location, etc for easy picking. I know there is the “add a step” option once you create a task but I’d like a drop down menu type accessibility! Last idea, to be able to add to the list by asking Alexa! This would be a game changer especially if I can’t just stop what I’m doing and jot it down. Without this feature, I’m prone to easily forget what my idea or item was.
Really helpful, wish there was a swipe feature!. I use lists for basically everything, it helps me stay organized! I used to use my notes app to have everything in one spot whether that be long term or short term tasks. I use the To Do app and make separate lists for things I need to do asap and things that I need to do eventually but aren’t very important right now. The one thing I reallyyyyyyyy wish they would add to this app that would be super helpful to many people would be a swipe feature to easily move between different lists. Like when you click on any list, you can swipe left or right to pull up the next list in line instead of having to go back to the main page. Just a thought! Thanks Microsoft!
I hate this app. I loved the app Wunderlist. It couldn’t have been easier to share lists with others and for them to access, etc. and the UX was incredible. Microsoft bought them to create this Lists app, and they ruined the user experience. I’ve set lists in this new app and tried sharing with my SO. Then it tells me I have to log in to MSFT from a computer to fix my password. [annoying] I reset my password and it confirms in that process I was using the right one all along. [more annoying] Now he’s set up his MSFT account and it won’t let me access his list and he can’t access mine... It tells me I have an account, then it tells me I have to link to email, then it tells me I already had it linked to email. And it still does not work. [uber annoying] We’ve spent so much time on this and cannot get a shared list. In Wunderlist it worked in five seconds and never had an issue. Another example of a Fortune 50 buying out a little guy and ruining their product.
Faulty but useful. This would be more like 2.5 stars, if I could give a half star rating. This app drives me CRAZY, and not just every once in awhile. It takes forever to load, and then I have to touch the field multiple times to get the cursor to show up. Also, if you’re at the grocery store, using this list app for your grocery list as I do, just be prepared for the app to close itself out 99% of the time. It is SO unbelievably frustrating to check the list, set my phone down, go to check the list again, and I have to reload the app (which, as I stated earlier, is not a quick process). Whyyy does it turn itself off after a minute of not using it? Makes no sense! Every time there’s an update, they always claim they’re “fixing bugs” but the ones I experience never go away, despite any updates. Honestly, I had higher expectations from Microsoft!
Same as Wunderlist. I was a HUGE Wunderlist fan for years. It was my most useful app. I deleted the stock lists and made my own lists. It’s for more than shopping and TODO lists. I use it for lots of “HOW to do lists”. Meaning lists I follow to close up the cabin in the fall and other lists to open it in the spring. There is no limit to the type or purpose of lists you can create to make your life easier. The big benefit is the ability to check mark ✅ an item to add to a list and check mark ✅ it when it’s finished. This means a list only needs to be typed in one time. I was devastated when I was told Wunderlist was going away, replaced by this app. Ultimately only the name and colors have changed. This is every bit as good as Wunderlist and honestly, it’s even a bit better.
could be better. A lot simpler and easier to use than OneNote for task, however I'd really like the option to hide "my day". I have zero interest in using it and would much rather have the mobile and desktop app's open into my first tab/ group. Please, it's always in the way and extremely annoying. Like OneNote, both apps need a trash can/ recently deleted, it's extremely careless for the developers not to include one as I've lost a few well-written notes over this non-including of an EXTREMELY important feature. Not even an undo option, issues with shake to undo, really??? At least To Do has an "are you sure you want to delete?", but it's not enough. Also can't figure out how to delete unintentional created groups in the mobile app, only on the desktop app... Okay? All around it's better then what's out there, just a few tedious important features missing for me to give it a complete five stars. also I don't know what your problem is, but if I take my time to drag and drop something it would be great if you didn't make it JUMP BACK TO THE END.
Microsoft security is pathetic!. This MS app is so ridiculous! It suddenly needs me to log in every time I open the app. Then, before I enter anything at all it has a red message saying I’ve tried too many times and will have to wait! This isn’t my bank information, it’s a TO DO list !!!!! If I can get signed in somehow (this is the 4th day trying) I’ll copy/paste my list to a much more manageable app! Update: I got away from this terrible app for a few days and tried again. After banging my head against the proverbial wall a few more times I finally did get logged in! I found that I was able to share each entire list (including completed items) and SMS message them to myself. At least I was able to get the list info so I can try a new app. I do appreciate good cyber security, but when it goes so far as to keeping the rightful owner from doing any useful task it’s no longer helpful!!
A simple reminders app is just what most of us need.. I started looking for a reminders app when I realized that the calendar’s “up next” widget contains reminders as well, so I deleted reminders and started looking elsewhere. Most of the reminders apps I’ve seen are either really simple, too complicated, or have complex tasks and just useless stuff locked behind a paywall. Microsoft’s ToDo is not the best app for the job, but it’s at least got the basics down, doesn’t lock it in a paywall, and doesn’t make it super complex. I would still like having location based reminders like on the Apple app, but I’ll forgive it. It still has: Reminders based on time, repeating reminders daily-weekly-monthly-yearly, notes, and color coded reminders groups. Yes, I wish it had location reminders, and that it didn’t force me to have it’s “Tasks” group, but it really is all you need. It’s basic, and that’s good.
Love the new look!. I have used this app for several months now. Although it is buggy sometimes with syncing, App Support suggested logging out of it and logging back in, and that seems to help. I like the My Day feature. I like being able to move things around in the order I want to do them TODAY, while their position in their individual lists where they were created stays the same. I like that the My Day list disappears each day. Mentally it was bogging me down to look at tasks I hadn’t finished. I like to focus on a shorter list and I get more done that way. The tasks aren’t really gone, anyway. You can still find them and add them to your day again easily if it’s a good day to accomplish those particular tasks. I love the new look from the most recent update (yesterday or today). The tasks in the boxes are so much easier visually for me to focus on. Seems odd that something that is visual like that would matter, but it does. MUCH easier to see and sort the tasks. I appreciate that App Support always replies when I report a problem, even if the fix hasn’t been discovered yet.
Detailed yet simple. So I enjoy that my OCD can run wild on this checklist app I can make my list and then add more detail (more list inside my list 🤭) because there is always more detail like say I make a list under todays to and inside it I put doctors then I can add additional detail more list to just doctor say make dentist app, find new eye doc. It just makes it feel so more organized to me instead of me making complete different list for doctor outside of my to do list while still keeping each task for doctor on my to do making repeated same task different list to keep it organized with key points so the detail of this app is perfect plus it’s not to complicated no calendar hopping or searching for my list just make the list detail it and get to work
Don’t normally write reviews.. Anybody migrating from Wunderlist will not be happy with this app as it currently stands. It will require updates to include features you previously used and relied on. Until those features are included, you might need to look elsewhere. Wunderlist was a fantastic app with incredibly intuitive features that greatly improved efficiency. When you have a great app, why change it? Overall this is a shell of the Wunderlist app and is missing the key features that made the app so powerful and user friendly. Missing calendar feed: this was probably my favorite feature as it allowed me to see my upcoming tasks in my iCalendar. Missing smart scheduling feature: in Wunderlist you could type in the task line: “Submit paper April 31 11:59pm” and it would automatically insert the due date and time. Less things to click and scroll through aka more efficient. Migrating from Wunderlist, I expected at the very least a poorly designed smart scheduling feature. Additionally, My Day should automatically transfer over things that are due today. That would seem pretty logical to me. It makes me feel like there’s some disconnect and I become uneasy about possibly forgetting something which is the opposite of the feeling I should be getting while using this app. If I wasn’t somebody who had used Wunderlist daily for 5 years, my review might be more favorable. This app has incredible potential to become #1 on the App Store productivity category, but the developers are going to need to listen to the team that developed Wunderlist and it’s migrating users.
I’ve been searching and I found this. I used to use OmniFocus, but the interface overwhelmed me. So many buttons and options just to create a task! As a result, I set out searching for a replacement. I’ve tried Wunderlist, iOS reminders, Todoist and a plethora of other apps, but so far To-Do has been the only one with a simple and elegant interface. Everything is incredibly straightforward and there’s even a platform to vote on new features. It’s comforting to know that our voices are being heard on new features. That being said, the app isn’t perfect either. One of my biggest pet peeves is that I can’t plan My Day in advance. It would be good if I could swipe left and right to review yesterday’s and tomorrow’s tasks respectively. Other than that, this app is the best I’ve seen so far. keep it up Microsoft.
Good start but needs a lot of improvements. Since this app was apparently built by Wunderlist developers, I shouldn’t be surprised that there’s sync issues, namely between iOS and desktop website. If I edited items on my phone then checked the list on a desktop browser, not only would it not update on the browser, when I go back to the mobile app, it changes things back to before I made the edits. This app seems to have a hard time telling which edits are the most recent and what to change/not change when syncing. Then there’s the minor but still annoying issues such as the whole list moving up and down too much when you try to re order an item (not sure if it’s a bug or a “feature” but please get rid of it) Some functionality suggestions: It’d be nice if items with due dates of “today” can be/are automatically added to My Day because that’s it seems convoluting to have something due today but not have it in “My Day” Also, it’d be very helpful if there’s a way to quick see items past due. Right now you have to check each and every one of lists to look for things you missed and it can get frustrating and time-consuming Changed to 3 stars because although right now it’s half-baked, I really want this app to work.
It’s lacking a very important feature. I used our beloved Wunderlist up until the end. And that’s because it had all the best features. I can’t tell you how many apps I’ve downloaded to try and replace Wunderlist, but none of them measured up. They’ve all been deleted. I’m keeping To-Do because I’ve got a little glimmer of hope that they’ll add the one feature that’s keeping me from loving it. I used Wunderlist for everything: work, personal life. My favorite was having a “permanent” grocery list of all our usual items. I only starred what I wanted, un-starring when the item was picked up, repeat process. It took the stress out of shopping. In Wunderlist, you can click on the “starred” tab and all the items are beautifully categorized, making shopping a breeze. The whole grocery list was broken down in a way that made sense. My ONLY gripe with To-Do is that the starred items aren’t categorized! They’re all jumbled, it’s a total mess and it’s nearly impossible for me to shop the way I used to. Now I to use it to check off items I want, and then I have to write everything down on a piece of paper (for shame) so that I can see it all broken down by category. PLEASE allow the starred items to be separated out by category like they were so beautifully in Wunderlist!
Still the Best Task Manager for Individuals. I am a former Wunderlist user, and I despaired when Microsoft acquired that app and created ToDo. I thought that the resulting product would be worse. I was wrong. I am now happier with ToDo than I ever was with Wunderlist. ToDo is flexible and powerful such that I can plan my personal, family and work-related projects separately and then cull my daily activities over all tasks / next actions. ToDo is compatible with GTD. And it synchronizes over multiple platforms. When at my workstation, I keep the My Day page open in a window on my righthand screen. When a new tasks enters my mind, I can immediately enter it on my phone. I generally don't thank large corporations, but thank you Microsoft for continuing to develop and maintain ToDo. It has made my life more efficient.
Simple and Beautiful. I’ve tried some of the top rated to-do apps, and they all don’t fit my purpose even though they offer much more functions. This app is neat, beautiful and totally what I am looking for as it’s easy to use, great everyday to-do checklist function as well as notes that I can add within the task without paying extras like some of the top apps. I also love the reminder notification, sorting function and themes which is sleek, fun and easy to add tasks. There may be hiccups in the older versions which I read, but these may have already been fixed for the newer version, so far I haven’t encountered any issues. Synchronization is a breeze between my MacBook and iPhone - almost instant actually ! Overall, it’s a 9/10 for me! Thank you creator!
A Pinch From the Finish Line. (There is now iPad support!) I have loved Wunderlist, and Microsoft aims to replace it. The features in To Do are remarkably similar and familiar to Wunderlist users with simplicity and minimalism at its core. With a slimmed-down UI, there's less to distract you and with the flawlessly smooth and responsive controls, you feel like you have a firm grasp on your system. Everything is intuitive and inviting. In addition, I'm from Seattle, so I appreciate the themes. Right now the only things missing for my own workflow is the ability to have folders and sublists. This is my last reservation for using this app and once this is complete (both are planned), I can officially utilize this as a Wunderlist replacement. Once I use this in my workflow, I will be most excited about the "My Day" feature. I can use that in tandem with my office' implementation of Kanban to help me see what I committed to getting done today. I can see this being useful for O365 organizations as well, since it can replace the Outlook tasks, pull assigned tasks from Planner, have inputs with Teams (i.e. Right click a message and select "Create Task") I'm excited to see where this goes as I wait patiently for the product to bake. Until then, three stars is about where it's at as of now--little more than a college student's obligatory first app.
I miss Wunderlist. Microsoft took a perfectly good app that I relied on heavily and ruined it. It’s clunky and unattractive but my biggest pet peeve is the layout. They must not realize that younger people use their phones ambidextrously because I keep marking items as done by accident with my left thumb, as they are checked off on the far left edge of the screen. Once this happens the item gets lost in a list of hundreds of completed tasks and sometimes it happens so quickly you don’t know what you just lost. I would also appreciate the option to make a new task item on repeat as it is being created, rather than creating the item, finding it, and then changing its settings. The typefaces are also quite small and challenging read, so I question how accessible it is. Microsoft please do better and don’t ruin perfectly good apps.
Keepin’ it 100. I’ve been using Wunderlist app for 2 years or more for free. At first I had a tough time re-organizing and figuring out how to use the app. It only took me 5 min to create my own goals, routines, and any list of things I want. Wunderlist app emerged with Microsoft To Do, and I was not excited about the news. I was afraid all my things to do list, goals and whatever I created for years will be gone then I’ll have to re-start all over again. I wasn’t looking forward to that. I downloaded Microsoft To Do and it asked me for my log in account. After I logged in my account it asked me to synchronize my Wunderlist to Microsoft To Do and I was super happy! I just can’t believe it! It transferred everything exactly alike from my Wunderlist app. Microsoft To Do is exactly like Wunderlist app with added custom colors and backgrounds. I really like different backgrounds plus the colorful fonts. Microsoft To Do made my tedious list to fun and customizable to whatever I want it. Thank you Wunderlist for continuous improvement, and making my life simple with this app also for making the app for free! I don’t give out 5 stars rating but this app is valuable to me, and my every day go to app.
“Completed” volume is tied to ringer volume. iOS has two volume sliders: in-app volume (for games or media for example) and the ringer volume. When checking off completed items, a ding is played back at the ringer volume and not at the app volume. In, for example, a grocery store, this noise is loud and draws attention and it is not easy to turn it down because the ringer volume is set in settings. Turning the ringer down for an app and then needing to turn it back up to hear when you are called, is not a great experience. Background notes: Recently my ringer volume setting was changed so that I have to go into settings to change it. (This might be a new default system setting, there is a setting to turn it back. ) It also makes sense to keep the ringer at a useful volume while reducing the chance of accidentally leaving it quiet. This may be the way Apple is moving going forward.
The most important app on my phone. I picked up this app on my iPhone and Mac, hoping I could work it into my routine at work and solve some of my team’s productivity and communication issues. To Do quickly became the lifeline of my business in exactly the way I had hoped, by organizing all of our messy actions and projects across multiple lists shared among various team members. In addition to typical tools in the toolbox, such as “Reminder,” “Due Date,” “Steps” and others, the addition of “My Day” and “Assign To” are unique to me tools I use every single day. To Do is incredibly simple to use and understand. In addition to work, I’ve been using it as well for my personal life, and other professional projects and volunteer work. Doing this has only strengthened my commitment to it, while my past experience with to do apps was almost always short-lived. Few other apps, if any, bring a simplified, high level of organization and teamwork to productivity as this one does- at a cost of nothing. I’m looking forward to updates with new features and further integration with Outlook and other Microsoft tools, but right now, this is already the best and most important app I use, hands down!
Start good-End BAD!. Leave it to Microsoft to destroy something by improving on it. Microsoft bought out Winderlist to create this “to-do” list. -Not Microsoft’s Creation- At first it was somewhat better than the original Wunderlist. But then someone at Microsoft decided to tweak it. The improvement Microsoft made was to list completed items alphabetically. This was great when creating a reusable grocery list. It was easy to look up items needed to shop for. Now all items in the completed column are jumbled. You now have to carefully scroll through your entire list to find the items needed for next weeks shopping list. And when you have to add an item sometimes every day or so, this becomes a pain in the pattuty. If you know what I mean. THANKS MICROSOFT!!!
Good app, but annoyances. Please add an undo function. When using on my phone I routinely accidentally mark a task complete while simply trying to scroll without realizing which I marked—so then cannot find the one I deleted among the hundreds of tasks marked complete. Add ability to add to My Day the evening before (when I’d like to plan my day). I am logged into my Microsoft account on the app, but when I select “Suggest Feature” the Microsoft website asks me to log into my work or school account, but it somehow cannot find my account, which is a personal/family account and I’m unable to log in at all, although I can go to another edge browser window and log in, but then can’t find the site or page to vote or suggest features, thus leaving some here. Other functions on iPhone are glaring omissions, such as ability to assign or move an existing tasks to a list.
Disappointed in functionality compared to Wunderlist. Being a longtime user of Wunderlist, and knowing that Microsoft bought the company that created Wunderlist almost 5 years ago, I’m really disappointed that one of the best features is still missing - the weekly view. It would break out tasks by day over the next 5 days whereas ToDo dumps them all into today, tomorrow, shorter term range, and beyond. Having a 5 day view was so helpful for planning. I don’t understand how Microsoft has gone backwards over the 5 years since it bought Wunderlist. It’s had that much time to improve from Wunderlist’s amazing base, but ToDo is not even equal to Wunderlist from 5 years back. Please - quickly implement the 5 day view and the ability to convert emails from any email system to tasks simply by sending them to ToDo.
Doesn’t notify you of items due. I had set some reminders with due dates in this app, and closed it/forgot about them for a little bit. Lo and behold, I come back to the app a week later to see the items I had added marked in red as “PAST DUE” but never got any kind of notification on the due dates I had set previously. So what’s the point of me setting a due date if I’m not going to be reminded of it anyway? Either fix that functionality or leave it out because it has absolutely no point. Super frustrating that I try to use apps like this to help my poor memory, but they don’t do anything to remind me of things anyway. Might as well go back to leaving sticky notes everywhere because this app is practically the same thing.
LOVE it, but…. I love this app so much. Honestly, best list app and reminder app I’ve ever had, period. The customization options and ability to link to my calendar and set alarms have been a lifesaver on more than one occasion. I use it daily for work, my grocery list, and more. However, PLEASE fix the bug that causes the app to randomly crash without prompting or reason. It drives me nuts. I’ll be typing a reminder or something I need to get for dinner and it’ll crash mid-word and then I’ve forgotten what I needed to write down. I’ve deleted and redownloaded, restarted my phone a dozen times, and finally confirmed with my husband that it happens to him too. If possible please fix it! That is my one and only complaint, request, and plea.
A few suggestions. I’ve recently been forced to switch over from Wunderlist (been using it for over a year) to Microsoft To Do. I have a few suggestions since this was forced by you guys. Please add the option to swipe down on a list to sync it rather than needing to go into my account and clicking sync (similar to how on Snapchat you swipe down to refresh). Secondly, for the Mac app, please make a widget for it, so I don’t need to open the app but instead can leave it at the top right of my screen in an icon I can press at any time to access the app. Again for the Mac, add the ability to swipe down to refresh/sync the list. Otherwise, the app looks much cleaner and is easier to use (not including what I just mentioned) and am very much looking forward to hopefully these suggestions being added.
Must-Have Productivity Tool!. Microsoft To Do is an absolutely fantastic app for anyone looking to organize their tasks and stay productive. The intuitive interface makes it incredibly easy to create, manage, and prioritize tasks seamlessly. As a free app, the value it provides is simply unparalleled—it’s a must-have tool for personal and professional use. However, one suggestion to make this already amazing app even better: introduce functionality to move tasks based on priority without having to manually rewrite lists or transfer them from paper. This enhancement would make task management even smoother and save users so much time. Thank you, Microsoft, for developing such an outstanding productivity app! Highly recommend it to everyone!
Still needs improvement; latest release removed key view. To Do is getting better, but still needs some improvements, like the ability to generate a reminder email when a task is due. But the version they just released removed a key view that I relied on. It used to group “Planned” tasks by those that are overdue, those due today, and then those upcoming. I could easily see overdue and today’s task next to each other at the same time. Now, with their new filters, I can see either Overdue or Today’s tasks; but I can’t see them together unless I set the view to see all planned tasks and then everything runs together. I appreciate the option for filters. They would be great if I could display multiple filters together (mainly overdue and due now). That is really what I care about...a list of all things I need to work on now.
Off to a great start, but needs maturing.. Pros: - User friendly for what it offers - Fluid, simple interface. Isn’t confusing to know what you’re doing. - Easy to prioritize tasks - Each task can be broken up into items (very useful for projects and/purchasing) Cons - Minimal navigation ability on completed tasks. Only way to navigate completed tasks is by opening up a list where it’s all dumped into. It may be in chronological order, but it’s difficult to know for sure. This leads me to my second issue... - Completed tasks don’t have a date of completion listed next to it unless you click on the individual task. So if you want to know what you completed in a particular week a couple months ago, you have to keep clicking on items until you find the date of interest. It isn’t clear however in what order the completed tasks are arranged. - As of today there is a bug which keeps you from deleting a repeated task in bulk. I accidentally set a reminder for the next 20 years and it generated tasks for every day for the next 20 years. I couldn’t delete them or remove them from my completed tasks list. I’m sure this would be a relatively simple fix. - If you don’t click something as completed the day it was completed, you cannot go back and edit. It only shows the date you clicked completed.
To Do: Suffering from Neglect…. I originally rated Microsoft To Do 5 stars due to achieving close feature partity with the late great WunderList. Creative masterpieces don’t normally fare well after being vacuumed up by corporations. Since those days when To Do was getting lots of attention, I’ve gradually come to remove one star due to Microsoft’s inability to continue improving through creativity and incorporating user feedback. For example, user requests to set our own default reminder times has been ingnored for several years. Now, I have to remove another star because To Do has been unstable—crashing frequently on iOS/iPadOS for almost a year now. Update: Uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version seems to have fixed the instability/crashing issue. Back up to 4 stars.
Completed Tasks Can’t Be Sorted (UPDATED). My wife and I use To Do for our grocery list in a very efficient way: Our shopping list has 100+ items in it, all completed at any given time. When it’s time to grocery shop, we scroll through that list and unmark whatever we need in a quick and efficient revolving list.... or at least we used to be able to do that. Now, the “completed tasks” are seemingly no longer affected by the sort function. Selecting sort only impacts those items that are not completed, which completely ruins our system. Why can you no longer sort completed tasks? Update as of 6/3/20: The most recent update brings back the sort ability for completed tasks. Thank you, To Do team for listening and fixing this issue!
Great app. I love this app as it keeps me very organized however I wish two things were different! 1: I wish that on the “my day” tab I could change the order of an individual task. I like to lay them out in the order I want to complete them and sometimes I want to change the order of tasks but the app only allows you to change the entire list rather than one at a time. 2: I wish that there was another tab I could add to that had every hour of the day like a planner. I would love to be able to plan out my day by the hour and be allowed to add multiple tasks under each hour rather than just setting a due date at a specific time. The best way I have found to this is by making a list that has numbers listed 1,2,3… and then adding my tasks into the notes but it gets tedious to do this everyday.
Seamless PC-iPad-iPhone integration helps make this a top app!. This is a well done app. The PC-iPad-iPhone integration enables me to quickly reference info and easily add new items when the thought comes, since I typically will be near one of these devices. I use several lists. In addition to true to-do lists (short term tasks by category to long term objectives) I record all sorts of specs, dimensions and other static data that I need to record only once, forever: tire sizes, home/room/furniture dimensions, model and serial numbers, Wordle starting words and sequences, you name it. And once fleeting ideas/plans gone forever are now noted on the spot, wherever I am. As time goes by, this ability seems to become more important…
Crashes when accessing PLANNED section. Much better stability when compared to a few months ago, when it crashed constantly no matter what you did. Now the app stays open and responsive while you work on it. HOWEVER, it still has its weaknesses - it almost always CRASHES whenever I open the ‘Planned’ section. It’s really unbelievable it continues to have these issues, being one of the main products of the biggest tech company out there! And it’s not even one of those that are technologically advanced, it’s basically a list app. It shouldn’t be that difficult Microsoft! Small things like this here and there and you begin to lose trust in the whole product, and eventually the company’s ability to deliver competent products in general.
Overall good but with a major flaw. As a to do list this works quite well with nice features such as ability to use across multiple devices and ease of use on Apple devices . I’m frustrated that on My Day items do not carry forward. Like everyone else in the world I have many things to do and I like to maintain and constantly add, prioritize and delete from that list. I like to have a clear line of sight to the “road” ahead so I keep a lot on my list…and refer to that list day over day as I check things off as done. My Day does not carry my list forward so I’m forced to rebuild it each day or only track “today only” items. I’ll give 5 stars when You program this application to carry my big list forward each day.
