Great tool for great travel!. The content of this app is the difference between a good vacation and a great vacation. Recently used this new app for a week in Oahu. Love the “ favorites” and “planning” tools to bookmark stuff you want to see/do. Even when you don’t plan and are out and about you can pull up the map and start clicking on things. And suddenly killing a couple hours before the airport became a breathtaking hike to a waterfall. Also it was reassuring that if you aren’t sure you are on the right trail you just pull up the map and see your location in relation to the trail. This app is better than any other guidebook hands down! If you have any reservations- It was very easy to cancel the auto renew subscription....they give you instructions. And you still have access to the full usage until the year is up. Also, if you had earlier versions of the app (I have Kauai from a few years ago) you can still use it, no conflicts. Honestly, if I go back to Kauai I will subscribe to the new app. As I know things change and would find value in having the most up-to-date info. I will never go to Hawaii without it. I just wish this type of tool was available for all our travel destinations!

A guidebook made exponentially better. I’ve loved the Hawaii Revealed Books, though after a couple years they can be outdated with business changing and closing, not to mention the changing culture and laws in the islands. This app will give you some history, island etiquette ( we can all use these lessons to be better tourists), and perhaps coolest of all are the surf reports and beach conditions that are updated daily. Worth every penny. I’ve been to different islands in Hawaii multiple times and I still learned a ton from the app.

Excellent books so so website. First of all let me say that I own I believe every book about Kauai that this author has written. In fact for my rental house I tell people to order his book and read it before they come to the island because it is so informative. The website in my opinion is not kept up to date. I also don’t like the fact that it automatically renews unless I stop it. If it was kept up more up today I would surely recommend it.

Disappointing. I love the guide in book form and was hoping this was a step up for easy on the road use. Still prefer the book: the wealth of information is still here but feels harder and counter intuitive to use. For example I wish you could just go to a map (in your area) and easily plug in beaches, restaurants, activities near you. But the map keeps changing size on its own as I try to zoom in or out and the requesting of specific info doesn’t seem possible. At best it’s counter intuitive design, at worst poor functionality. I signed up for one year and will cancel right now and go back to buying the latest hard copy edition. They still got a long way to go to work out the kinks and make it easy to use.

Great app and Great Customer Service. The Hawaii revealed folks were super prompt to answer questions and handle an issue with app access. Everything was resolved quickly via email and without issue. I ordered both the print book and app for an upcoming trip and found both to be extremely useful. Would recommend the app 100% to aid with Hawaii trip planning. It’s updated on the fly and even gives daily current surf conditions for each beach on the island. If you’re a paper person like I am, I loved having the books with their nice paper maps to plan my days. Great resources and great customer service!

Not worth it if you already have the book. I purchased the Big Island Revealed book and found it to be such a wealth of knowledge that I also checked out the app. With all the recent changes in the Big Island with the 2018 eruption, I was hoping to find updated information from the printed book, but the sections are the same. If you prefer an app to a book, this would be a great resource. However, personally, I prefer the book because it has more maps and guidance so you have a better understanding of where things are. The app has a map but you have to zoom in close to see the mile markers and you lose the view of the whole island. I also found the book better organized for the way i personally think. The only benefit of the app is that you can save favorites which might be easier to access on a trip instead of carrying a book with you. I realize they did add a section on the lava flow update, but the information was provided in the free version. I was hoping for more detailed information on how to visit volcano National Park post-2018 and where in Puna we can legally and respectfully see the effects of the 2018 lava flow. This is a great resource if you do NOT have the book, but not necessary if you do.

The book is better. I’m a bit disappointed by the app. I have purchased the books for the big island, Maui (2nd purchase) and kauai. Every time I tried to use the app, I found it easier to pull over and open the book. I didn’t find it super user friendly (on the go), and although I know all the info that’s in the book is on the app, it’s just not as easy as cracking the book looking at the island and seeing what’s near.

Indispensable!. Just took my first trip to the Hawaiian islands, spending 12 days in Kauai. I was looking for a guide that covered everything - tourist destinations, food, transport, hikes, snorkeling, places to stay, beaches, etc. Hawaii Revealed was it! I also downloaded the audio guide for driving around the island which supplied great local flavor. The recommendations and reviews were solid, up-to-date and saved us so much time, money and anguish deciding what to do and where to eat. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip and I didn’t want to waste a minute or miss anything essential. Hawaii Revealed made sure I didn’t. Mahalo! Highly recommended.

New App. Update: it's working much better since the latest release. I’ve been using their books and the old apps for years and find them indispensable. It’s taken me a while to get used to the new app, but I always have a learning curve when faced with software updates too. This is a visually beautiful app. It started out pretty buggy. I think they released it a bit too soon. But they’ve been addressing most of the problems and their customer service has been very responsive… something I greatly appreciate in this age when most companies’ idea of customer service is to direct you to their forums where other customer have the same questions you do. My main issues are with the maps (the old app maps were so much better) and having the app subscription default to auto-renew (though their FAQs do tell you how to cancel that). But it’s still a really good and useful app when you're out and about in the islands, especially if used in conjunction with the books.

Not worth it. I have purchase several versions of this App. First of all, it use to be great, but the App keeps getting more expensive and if less functional. Also, I have two devices, my phone and my iPad and it only works on my phone. They want to charge me again for the app on my ipad. That is the first time this has happened with any app. I have email them and they have also been unresponsive. The App itself tell very little and comparing what it has to offer, google maps works better, and shows more trail and the names of local beaches. Of course google maps doesn’t have a ‘write up’ on the beaches which can be very helpful. These developers just seem really greedy as I keep buying versions that were suppose to work for ever and they cancel that version so you have to buy a new, inferior version on a monthly subscription.

Great Information, Good App. First I’ll lead off by saying this is a wealth of information about the islands that is constantly being updated and an absolute must have with the subscription to any island you’re spreading more than a day on. Beach info is updated daily with surf/snorkeling conditions which is awesome. Restaurant info is spot on. We ate at almost exclusively recommended places and never came away disappointed. The only reason I docked a star is for the app itself which, while fairly well laid out and easy to navigate, had some annoyances like a structures that were sometimes circular referencing and sometimes had multiple locations that seemed like they had *almost* the same info but were slightly different for some reason. The layout also makes it really easy to go way down a rabbit hole of links and redirects that you have to backtrack through or jump all the way home. Just made it hard to go back to that exact page you were looking for sometimes. One other quibble was that the vertical infinite scrolling effect was far too sensitive at the bottom of the page which let to me scrolling past where I wanted about 450 times on the trip.

Wealth of information. We relied heavily on the books and this app for restaurants and activities, and for up-to-date info on COVID-19. We learned about the Revealed books from our son; the comments were always fun to read and spot on! The app was an added bonus! We’ve also recommended these to our friends who will travel to Hawaii later this year.

Used it everyday on our trip!. The app was great. Very easy searching and map features. We bought the book and downloaded the app. The book was great to have in the car for one family member to look at, and the app was perfect for on the go and searching. More up to date and appreciated the links within. Highly recommend!!

Book provided good information but app provided little more. The app didn’t seem worth the cost. The maps are static and not interactive. Much of he information such as restaurant closures and open/closed hours were wrong. Also, some recommendations and information were lacking. For example, the Scuba company they recommended in Waikiki was horrible. They didn’t even have there own boat. They chartered a boat with other dive companies and the experience was poor not to mention leaving 45 minutes late. Restaurant closing times on the North shore were wrong. For Moana falls trail, would have been nice to know how muddy you get so we could bring different clothes and have change of clothes and towels available. I would just recommend getting he book which is just slightly better than the Fodors guide. I don’t see a way to attach photos but after seeing your response I just checked to ensure location services were in fact turned on. I just went in to the restaurant area for example and it requires the user to narrow the searches by region, etc and doesn’t automatically show restaurants in the area. Same with sights, etc.

An essential, all-in-one. We’re finishing up our first trip to Kauai and so glad we bought this and the driving app. We used this in our planning over the last several months. Everything has been spot on from the detailed instructions for hikes to the food reviews. It’s a wealth of knowledge, easy to use, updated daily, and well written!

How to feel like a local. I hate being and tourist and every time I go somewhere I hope there will be an app as thorough and insightful as this one is. I’ve avoided traps, eaten the best food, seen the most amazing waterfalls, and truly felt one with each community I had the fortune of staying with. The daily beach conditions and ability to save favorites were essential. Like others have noted, you can get stuck in a rabbit hole of information (which I rather enjoy), the navigation can be a bit clunky at times, and some of the most incredible beaches are just best found on your own. I have used this guide for O’ahu and Maui, and soon Kauai.

Misleading. I have the physical book, which indicated that certain things (like reviews of places to stay) are free on the app. Wrong! If I select the island in question, it takes me to a page where my only options are to either buy the book (which I already have in physical form) or preview the book (not helpful). There is no way to navigate away from this page, so no way to access this supposedly “free” feature. So either buy the book in physical form, with the knowledge that you won’t get reviews, or buy an electronic version on the app (which, incidentally, must be renewed yearly to continue to have it). For an author who chastises others for being misleading, this one is doing the same.

Wish it was more intuitive. I have been a HUGE fan of the books and used them to our trips to Big Island and recent one to Maui as well. While on Maui, saw that they had an app and hoped it would help us with directions and finding places to eat wherever we were. Unfortunately, neither of these were easy. Though we had the app, we carried the book everywhere to ensure we had all the info. I wanted to love this app as much as I love the book but was very disappointed with the lack of intuitive user location based info.

Great app, but beware of background location use. This is a great app to use while in Hawaii. If you are like most, you got it for a visit or vacation. I noticed that my iPhone battery life had significantly shortened in the past few months. According to the battery use as shown iOS settings, this app was set for allow location even when not in use. This resulted in using over 34% of my battery each day. I switched it over to share location only while in use to correct this. Do this once you are no longer in Hawaii or delete the app and download it again before your next visit.

Great content. Indispensable content on Kauai. It has much (all?) the content from the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, which is just that. The app largely works well, although there are a few quirks in the interface, notably in the map, where it’s a bit hard to figure out how an area is being selected for search and in the text sections where scrolling at the end of a section slows down and then all of a sudden snaps to the next section. The latter can make reading difficult. Oddly when I first installed the app on two 2018 iPad Pros and one iPhone, the iPhone and one iPad had no problems with the App but another iPad couldn’t get past the first set of screens with the “get started” at the bottom. I deleted and reinstalled but it didn’t work. Then one day it started working for some reason. The developer is responsive which is a big plus.

Worth it. Because we already had the books, I was hesitant to purchase the apps for Kauai and the Big Island when we visited... but we were so glad to have them. Relied on them heavily when hiking on unmarked trails, and even when driving in areas with no cell signal. Google Maps was generally pretty good for directions, but a few times, it didn’t know where we were while this map app did. Also helpful for updates on surf conditions, closures, business hours, and finding nearby activities and restaurants.

They have a new app!. I love these guys and have used their products for years, every time I visit Hawaii. So I was a little surprised when I found another app under their name called Revealed Travel Guides. Apparently, they created this app recently and it is way better than this current version. WAAAAA BETTER! Do yourself a favor and try the new app. You won’t be disappointed. They also have driving tours that are great too!

Good app, no sharing. I concur with most of the positive reviews found here. The maps are a weak point particularly where there are a number of similar items located in close proximity (eg. Restaurants). The big drawback for us is that family sharing doesn’t work if the other family member has their own Apple ID. This conflicts with the description in the App Store touting family sharing with up to six members. Taint so. So one has to pass off the blessed device to your spouse as you drive around the island. This applies to the subscription. The “free” app will share but that is of little use by itself.

Poor map integration. I really have enjoyed the “Revealed” series of books and apps in the past. We use them exclusively while visiting Hawaii. This version has some glitchy-ness. Any time I used the app to launch the directions to a place Apple Maps would freeze and no voice or real time movement worked. Both the app, and my phone are current with updates. The work around- open maps and get the directions separately was an adequate work around but was annoying.

Good information but somewhat lacking.. Good well researched information. But to someone who doesn’t know anything about Hawaii, I had a hard time figuring out where the places were that I was reading about. I had to have another phone open to Google maps to see where they were. It would be great if there were tours like Rick Steve’s app has that talked to you and told you where to stop and what you would see there.

Will use on our next trip too!. I read the Big Island guidebook cover to cover and loved it- I couldn't believe how helpful the app was after all that info! It's great if you want to see what's nearby and will show you where the hidden gems are! Going back this Christmas this time to Maui, I'll be reading the guidebook and the app until then because I can't wait

Worth the price. I rarely pay for apps but this one is completely worth it. The author gives unbiased, detailed, and frank reviews of nearly every activity, restaurant, and experience on the islands. The app is invaluable in choosing tour providers and has enough detail to allow you to choose one that best fits your circumstances. He also includes a ton of insider info on the best hiking, swimming, etc. locations including some unusual experiences for the adventurous. I’ve used it to plan trips to Maui, Oahu and Kauai and it hasn’t steered me wrong yet. We always know we’re making an informed decision about which activities to book or which restaurants to visit and can choose the good ones.

Learn & laugh with this great guide “book”. The depth of detail, delivered with a great sense of humor, was great in the 2018 edition book I found in the condo while in Hawai’i. Downloaded the app and bought the full online edition since I couldn’t take the book with me for the second part of the trip. Beach reports, volcano updates, reality checks on hyped places, activities, etc. And it’s funny!! Totally worth the purchase (in app) and download means it works no matter how remote.

Worst app ever. I purchased this after someone I met in Maui recommended it. Not only did the app not work after trying everything thing the customer service rep recommended, but they are making it a headache to get a refund. Plus, apparently it isn’t that great, because a friend who has the app tried one of the restaurants that they recommend and it was terrible. He said they got a bad salad and soggy fries. I’m always happy to support great travel guides, since I used to be in the business, and I rarely rate things, but I’m afraid that they still have some serious bugs to fix here, and should be able to give customers struggling with the app a better refund experience. Buyer beware!

Fantastic app. This is a fantastic app, especially if you are new to Hawaii. My wife and I decided to go to Maui for the first time for our 50th anniversary. We started with their book and loved it so much, we moved on to this app. It is a terrific base to start from. You learn all you need to know and can you use what you find to narrow down any other search you feel you might need. Even with the searched I did do, I found my self coming back to this time after time. Told with a touch of humor, it makes learning fun. They only problem I had was narrowing down all I wanted to to do in the time we had. If you think you know everything, then this is not the book for you. If you want help for your trip then you have to get this book

Awesome Driving Tour. We just visited The Big Island for the first time and found the gps driving tour invaluable. We would have never seen, or truly appreciated, half the sites we got to see by simply driving our jeep around the island and following the suggestions provided by the guide. The detailed history of the island was also addictive to listen to as we drove. So worth the money and highly recommended. Mahalo for a great product! God Bless.

Good app but needs multi-device syncing. Very nice resource for travels to paradise! Sold as a “companion” to the book (which I bought first), it is essentially identical to the book (as far as I can tell?), which kinda makes the book itself obsolete... so bear that in mind if you’re looking at both this and the ebook. One star subtracted because I wanted to use this both on my iPad and my iPhone... the tablet while on the plane (or lanai!), phone while out & about. It works beautifully on both devices, BUT: favorites aren’t synced! So I’ve ended up with essentially two parallel resources that I have to reconcile manually. The website says they’re working on it... but I think that’s a semi-major gap (at least IMHO). Since I’ve signed up for an account, can’t the two devices just “talk?” Overall nice work... if the device syncing worked, this would be a solid 5-star review.

Well Done. I’ve been coming to Kauai for years. I always used the most recent version of the ultimate Kauai guidebook. The info is always spot on. I simply downloaded the app out of curiosity. What an awesome surprise. The driving tour goes into so many things we never knew about the island. My parents live on the island and after day 2 they were asking if I would turn on the driving tour!

Stick to the books. While the books are great, they make it sound like the app is a companion to the books. All this specific app does is act as a portal to the apps that need purchased. The tiny amount of free content here isn’t much different from the books, it may even be copied verbatim from the books. Even as a preview for the paid apps, this falls short. All you can preview is are lists of names of restaurants and places to visit. The hotels portion is free, but doesn’t show much difference from what you find on most travel booking sites you browse for free and the aerial views can easily be found on any search engine that shows satellite views.

If you are going to Hawaii, this is THE APP. I bought the book by the same author of this app and I could have just used the app by itself. It was wonderful to use during my vacation to Hawaii. I bought the multi island version because I went to 2 islands. I used it to find things to do and places to eat. The subscription is for a year so buy it ahead of your vacation so you can explore before you go. It also has recommendations on where to stay. Do not hesitate to get this app!

Must have if traveling or live here!. I have read through the Big island book and bought the app after because it is so helpful to search something in the moment. The book was great for sitting down to plan and the app is so great for on-the-go. The updates and surf reports built in are so helpful. We have been here for two months traveling and everything has been accurate so far. I let them know about a regulation change at a beach they reviewed, and they got back to me immediately and said they would go back and check it out. Love it!

Book content in my phone!. Wow I love that the book content is now in the palm of my hand! Bought the Maui book for our first trip 4 years ago, so I knew I needed the Kauai book for our second trip to the islands! I rented the book from my local library when I realized it would be so much better to have the information in my phone rather than lug a book around. I can vouch everything I read in the book version is in the app plus I love the trip planner feature. Suggestion to developer: make the trip planner time of day optional and make it easier to move things from one day to another.

Must have app!!!. This app made such a huge positive impact on my recent Hawaii vacation! Visiting these islands can get very overwhelming because there is so much to do. As much as I didn’t want to look up places so I could freely explore and find things on my own, it’s almost just impossible to do that in Hawaii. I went to three islands and every thing I read in this app was totally on point! It’s a very helpful tool to guide you through your trip so you don’t waste time at places you won’t like or enjoy. If there are 20 places to snorkel and they mention the top 3 places then I’m going to go to those to see the most marine life :) The app was completely accurate about all the food places too. It is organized so perfectly with filters so you can choose what you want and where you want it and other details! Other categories like beaches have filters too so you find the best one for you. I also went with their recommendation of the best dolphin tour and luau and was not disappointed! I respect their honesty about all the companies sooo much. I totally recommend this app to those travelers who like planning out their trip but also to those who like to wing it. Most mornings I would wake up and see what I’m in the mood for a check the app to see what my options are. Thank you so much to the writers and creators of this genius app. You have done all the hard work for us so we don’t waste any time on our Hawaiian vacation!

Great info..... does not support family sharing as advertised. The app provides very useful information and very glad to have it. However it’s very misleading that this states family sharing. You can only family share the free app. And have to buy a yearly subscription for each island. And subscriptions are not able to be family shared. I understand that it’s not your rule, but maybe you need to change your app to avoid the problem. If you just had a paid app for each island, then I would think we should be able to get around the problem. I’m pretty sure I’m not the first person to have this problem. Very frustrating! We don’t want to pay $16 a year for each island so that my husband and I can have it on both of our phones.

Good Companion. We found the app to be a good companion to the books and were thankful to be able to get it at a discount having already purchased and read through the four books prior to our trip. The books are easiest but this was a great refresher as we drove around or were trying to decide on dinner so that we didn’t have to have the books at all times. I docked one star because their website has a list of updates that are not reflected in the app and access to more current info was a big driver for me getting the app, especially since I was paying a subscription on top of owning all 4 books. Highly recommend the books for sure!

I will use this app again. We are a family blessed with a special needs angel. That being said, much more pre planning is required for vacations. I stumbled across the OahuRevealed guidebook which led to their HawaiiRevealed app and took a chance—reaching out to one of the guidebook’s contributors. They immediately got back to me and actually helped me with insight and suggestions for our unique situation. They were so warm and welcoming that I felt I knew them forever. They are the go to people for any question—& believe me, as a special needs mom and also an RN, I asked them all. They were even kind enough to initiate communicate with Ohana Surfing Project on my son’s behalf so as to start the planning for his special day of surfing. No question or detail was silly and I even felt as if I had a friend in Hawaii while we were there because I asked them questions while we were vacationing. HawaiiRevealed app is excellent. Easily usable while on vacation by me and also my son loved that we had a “friend” helping us. If we are blessed enough, we certainly intend to return to Hawaii. I hope HawaiiRevealed has a guidebook and app for us to use then. You should seen how worn the pages are from the book accompanying us everywhere! Evette Hitscher

Best and most valued resource one can imagine!. I have been trusting Hawaii Revealed as my “go-to” Hawaii guide with absolute confidence for decades and I am always amazed how plugged in these folks are… they share everything to know from the local restaurants to the best beaches to the most desirable accommodations all the way down to where to find a parking spot in the busy areas. You truly feel like you are traveling with the benefit of a local friend at your side. They will bring your vacation experience to a whole new level. I cannot say enough about the value of this gem! Keep up the good work!

The Savages from TX. Spent nearly a month on the big island. This app was a must have and next time I’ll leave my hard copy of the book by same name, at home. One bug, when I attempt to map directly from ap map to location I have chosen to drive to, I can see myself moving along the route, but would like to hear directions aloud while driving.

Amazing Resource. We have used Hawaii Revealed for many years and for many islands. I love having this immense amount of info at my finger tips. The insider tips are spot on and I truly appreciate the honest reviews the developers give. When many of us have a limited amount of time in this amazing place it is so important to find what suits your specific vacation wants and needs so you don’t waste it. Hawaii Revealed is a wealth of information from a local perspective. I will continue to come back again and again to this amazing resource for future vacations. Mahalo!

Has everything!. This app took me through my entire trip, from planning it months in advance to finding more places on the map while we were there! I'm glad the subscription is for a year because I like to plan ahead. It was very useful knowing exactly what was going on so we could get to everything on our list. Thanks for this app!

A ‘Must Have’ app for first time visitors to the islands!. I say it’s a ‘must have’ for first time visitors, but I used to live on O’ahu and have visited the Big Island many times and I still used the app constantly on my trip to both those islands. The searchable restaurant and beach reviews alone are worth the price of the subscription. We actually own the Big Island book as well, but the app is better updated and more convenient to have in ones pocket. If you’re planning a trip to Hawai’i, I’d suggest using the app as one of your planning tools and then having the app available to help make decisions when those plans change or when you just don’t have a plan (the best way to visit the islands really, except you’ll probably want advanced reservations for a few things to make sure that you can do them on the day and time that you want) If I had any gripes, it would be that the app and the reviews/descriptions aren't so regularly updated that it takes into consideration all variations that come from COVID restrictions (not the developer’s fault really), so you may want to call ahead on things that involve people and crowds, just like you’re probably already doing at home. I’d also agree with at least one other reviewer that the ‘page jump’ scrolling functionality can be glitchy and frustrating. You’ll get trained to it after a while, but I think it would be a better user experience without that functionality. Overall, a great app for anyone visiting the islands.

No way to unsubscribe from $7.99 annual auto-renew. I bought this app and gladly paid $7.99 to use it for our week in Maui. Then I tried to unsubscribe to avoid auto-renewing every year in perpetuity. I tried checking the app and the settings and could find nowhere to cancel the auto-renew. I’d gladly give this app 5 stars if this was easy (or even possible) to do without having to contact support. Waiting to hear back from the developers. Update: I figured out you have to turn off auto-renewals from somewhere in the Apple system software menus. Forgot how to do it or I’d explain here. To much trouble.

Great app!. Updated review: initially the app did not work but after posting this review, they fixed the issue and contacted me. Great service from the developers and the app is incredibly helpful, even including COVID updates. I love these books and was really excited for the app, but when I loaded it, I tried to tap the get started button and nothing happened. I downloaded it on two different devices with the same issue. I also deleted the app and downloaded it again, but it still doesn’t work.

Great content, but needs to be free of reproducing the book format so much. The “blue book” for Kauai is unquestionably THE resource for travelers. Some suggestions to improve: 1) When you are in the “map” and you see a beach, you should be able to touch that name and be taken to the full description of that beach. Not have to go back to home and go to the list of beaches. 2) For restaurants, the above is especially true! 3) This app needs a much better search. There are open source cognitive search algorithms which would make finding things like “Na Pali coast trail” and give the right result. With all the above in mind, this is still a must have app. Having integration with GPS when you’re on a trail is invaluable.

Didn’t Work For Me. I bought the subscription on our first day in Oahu and started using it in the morning as we ventured out to see the sights. Running the app heated up my phone (iPhone X) and drained the battery. Then, after about the second stop on our “tour” the app just crashed and wouldn’t reopen. Emailed customer service and was told to delete and reinstall. Couldn’t do that since I wasn’t on WiFi (and don’t have unlimited data) so we were on our own for the rest of the day. Tried reinstalling back at the hotel and the same thing happened again after a few minutes of use.

Bait and switch. Very annoying that the privacy policy does not promise not to sell private information. Then, after signing in you discover that nothing is free. I already bought the Kindle version and resent giving my private info only to be asked to pay twice.

No testing?. Maps dont work in new ios but were just released. I guess they didnt take the time and test the new ios which has been available for months.

Such a great app. I guess all these bad reviews were written just after the first release of this apps, with possible bugs unsolved, but all is perfect now. This guide is amazing, with a lot of interesting informations on places to go and sights not to miss. Each place can be located on a map, and you can see the path from your position and the duration to reach it. No more GPS needed, and no need for cellular data neither. Just don’t forget to cancel your subscription if you only want this guide for a single trip, that’s all. I really recommande it !

What you’ve done is terrible. I remember using this app relentlessly when we were in Maui a couple years ago. It’s was simple and very easy to us. The maps were a little amateurish looking and they still are but whatever. The real issue is the way the information sections “snap” to the next segment. Probably the dumbest most annoying thing ever. Stupid idea. Doesn’t work! Also it used to be awesome where you could pick a point on the map and it would show you food and sights and whatever. Now I have to pick sights or things to do or whatever? Stupid. How do I know that a “sight” could be a lookout, or is it a “thing to do”? So dumb and annoying. Waste of $10. Deleting this and will NOT be re downloading it. You wrecked something perfectly good and this newer version is the worst.

Not of much use. I got it when I was on Maui. Not useful, especially without wifi, and with wifi google still better.

Waste of time. I had old app- it was great. This has good yet abbreviated content from the books but the function of this app is nil. Long load times, map is completely inaccurate which is kinda the point. Too bad.

Brutal regression from previous quality. I have been a fan of this author’s guide books and apps for years. One of the key strengths of the guidebooks has been the very detailed maps with mileage markers, local street names, and detailed directions to the recommended attractions. The current map on this app is hopelessly rudimentary. Additionally, the previous arrangement of a general island map with accommodation choices visible on the map was excellent and informative. The current alphabetical listing with only a general notion of location of the accommodation is far less useful. This looks like an app whose execution was delegated at low cost to someone who has failed to produce quality. The author, who has I think quite rightly been proud of his books, should heed the negative reviews for this app and take quick steps to correct it.

Doesn’t Work!!. Right now I would give this zero stars if I could. I downloaded this app and then selected to BUY the Maui content. Content started downloading but then stopped when it was time to download the images. I’ve deleted the app and tried to “re-download” or to “restore” several times without success. Also, I can’t locate any way to obtain support or troubleshooting for this. Very disappointing because I have an older version of the book in print that I love, so I thought this app would be great.

Book is good. App not so much!. It just doesn’t work. Plain and simple. Wasted my money.

Crashes upon load. Downloaded the app and installed the free version of each island to give it a try. It was working great until it crashed and now it continues to crash upon load every time - making app is useless. Glad I didn’t buy any in-app purchases. What a worthless app, the old version was stable and a pleasure to use. The new version is slow, clunky and unusable. Why even exist!!!

Really Excellent Hawaii Guide. I’m a bit mystified by the low ratings here. I use the Maui section of the guide/app, and the editorial content is simply outstanding. I used to use the paper (book) version of the guide, but having it on your mobile device is more convenient when travelling. The app itself (versus the content) has been steadily improving and the developers are very responsive to suggestions. The app is not yet as good as the content, but it’s getting there! Finally FWIW - I am happy to pay the annual subscription to keep the content up to date. An out of date guidebook is not useful.

Doesn’t work. All I see is wallpaper. No way to fix it.

Automatically renewing subscription. Zero stars.. I have bought the revealed books and apps for previous trips, but this move to an annual subscription model is a terrible money grab. How many people go to the same island every year? Very few. I’m sure the developers know this and will take in $$$ from people that don’t know they have to cancel their subscription to avoid being charged. If you do buy this, IMMEDIATELY go to Settings -> iTunes and App Store -> Tap on your id -> view your id -> subscriptions -> Hawaii revealed, and click cancel. You will still have the year of access but it won’t renew.

Poor quality (( so disappointed. Used for my Kauai trip. Poor quality, a lot of commercials.

Poor Google version. It does not show where the trail is only the road going there. Google Maps works far Superior. No extra information just a general surf report plastered on the different corners of the island. Outdated information.

Great guidebook, app still has bugs. App crashes or freezes every 3-4 times I open it. Which is multiple times a day while travelling in Hawaii. Honestly prefer using the book for the most part as detail maps are missing from the app.

The maps are the best. I downloaded the island maps because there was limited cell service where my friends and I went surfing and hiking. Without the maps I'm sure we would have been lost!

No better way to plan a trip to Hawaii. This app saved me hours of research. Although I did some cross referencing, everything in the Hawaii Revealed app is spot on. No need to worry about paying for a year, it’s totally worth it. Don’t even thing of looking elsewhere to help you with your planning.

Excellent guide book and app. I really like the app and the book by Andrew. Very pleasant reading. Accurate and timely info. I also bought the audio driving app which is great. You can drive anywhere on the island and Andrew tells you the same info in the book so you can look without burying your nose ina a book or screen.

Going backnext year. This app was incredibly helpful. If only there were more guides like this for every place in the world! We're going back next year and we'll make sure to have the app with us so we don't miss out on anything.

Theft. Will automatically subscribe you again for the next year without warning and no way to get your money back. Subscriptions must be changed in the apple App Store under settings. Would have given 5 stars as used it in Kauai but the book is better. If I bought the book I should have been given access to the app for free in the first place. Then the audacity to charge me the next year with no warning despite not even having the app anymore. Horrible

Good App. I was skeptical to buy the app when I first read your app reviews, however, I followed my instincts and downloaded the app. I must say, the app is a total package and it has some great reviews and tips which I could not find anywhere else. I would highly recommend the app before a trip to Hawaii since it has everything one needs to know.

Very informative. This app didn't just tell me basic information on resorts and activities, it went into detail on the people and the story behind each place too which was incredible. I couldn't put the app down!

Travel App. We carried it around the islands and followed the reviews to find our hotel and food places. The reviews were completely true and we definitely think those helped us to be at the right places. We are so glad this is an offline app.

Excellent Content, Great App. Great content to follow if you are looking for recommendations. We have used your previous apps too but I find it better that now I have to use only one app instead of 4 apps to get info for each of the islands. This is way better in its look. My wife loves using the planner section

Better than any travel guidebook. Great descriptions of sights to see and activities. Also very honest about places not worthwhile or hard to navigate. I love the section on beaches. My friends use it to plan their vacation activities.

So useful!. makes the best travel guides around! Hawaii travel guide is fantastic. It works offline, has tons of restaurants and hotels marked on the map, and super detailed tourist information. The interface is sleek and easy to use as well. Even the least tech-savvy person can use it.

Good App. i was skeptical to buy the app when I first read your app reviews, however, I followed my instincts and downloaded the app. I must say, the app is a total package and it has some great reviews and tips which I could not find anywhere else. I would highly recommend the app before a trip to Hawaii since it has everything one needs to know.

Terrible app, buy the hard copy books instead!. I have been to four of the islands several times. I absolutely love this book series ... None of the other books come close in terms of the content and organization. However this app is nearly unusable. It seems like it was designed 5 years ago. Save your money and buy the hard copies instead.

Driving around was an ease. We downloaded the maps so we could use them offline and this made our life so much easier! The instructions are very precise and we saw everything exactly where it said we would. This is the best purchase I made on my whole trip!

Very trustworthy reviews. I am always skeptical of researching hotels because the reviews always seem to be biased and inaccurate. This app has brutally honest reviews and I've managed to avoid making the mistake of trusting big hotel company reviews available on many links online.

Love the app, love the books. I have both the app and the books and am happy to have both formats. The recommendations are always spot on. For the equivalent of an overpriced resort Mai tai, you will have the perfect companion, sending you to great experiences and sparing you the bad. It’s a no regret purchase!

Very useful, great information!. The information on this app (at least the Kauai part) is incredibly detailed and allows you to enjoy the island to the fullest, from hikes and trails to restaurants and beaches. I highly recommend it! Also, the support team is very kind and helpful.

Problem using with poor coverage. The app has great information and is very helpful but it had connection problems where we had poor cell phone coverage. Maybe it’s my iPhone 8 that was the problem, but it was difficult to use the app on the road to Hana when we needed it most.

App problems. I have loved your books for many years. Tried out the app last year and have really enjoyed it. I currently have an IPhone X. it seems every time you update the app, I have to delete it and reinstall it. Not sure what is going on. When I open the app, it goes to the start up screen and then closes back out to my home screen. Any thoughts?

Updated maps are better. I had the older version of this app and the maps didn't work right. I just downloaded the updated version and am glad to see the problems with the maps are all worked out!

Great information app. Love this app for island info. Have had big island for 6 years and Oahu for 3. Have used these for family vacations every year except 2020. Great insight on places to see, grinds and activities. Will definitely use it every day we are here. (And research for the next trip) TY

Map is terrible and names of sights are mixed up. We had the old version for Kauai and loved it. This version is full of weird mix ups of names and descriptions on the Big Island. And the map is hard to use on a phone (which is what you generally carry with you when traveling). Not impressed. Should have saved the $8. And now I also have to remember to cancel it, because it charges automatically every year.

Awesome. Used the gps to navigate the secret tunnels hike and it kept us on track. We lost the trail several times but the gps for the trail brought us back on track every time. Do not do this hike unless you’re into pain. Very difficult and dangerous!

Maui Revealed has been my Maui bible. The ap is nice because you always have it with you vs carrying the book around. I like how quick I can over look all the activities in particular. I like the website links especially when Hurricane Erick and Flossie blew by, this ap was great for simple info I needed to consider while traveling and playing around the island.

Beware. I do not write reviews. However I made exception after contacting the seller and they made no attempt to work with me. I paid for the books for 4 of the islands then purchased the original apps so as not to have to take the books on a plane. They developer never did update that app then came out with this one. After contacting them they tell me I have to purchase these books again. Don’t bother to purchase them. They will not update the app. Then expect you to purchase a new app of the same content.

Maui Island. "I have only downloaded Maui island and so far I am really satisfied with the app. I wanted to post this review because I was referred your book by a friend and I really enjoyed it. However, I was not sure if your app is as good as your books. But now I am very happy I chose to have both for planning my trip to Maui."

Best source for Hawaii. We love this source! We have it on our iPad. We have gotten so much helpful information - about snorkeling trips, about restaurants, and about drives. And it's updated frequently with the latest info.

Highly recommended!!. We used this app all the time during our stay on the island. It gave so much information on hikes, beaches, activities, ect. The app was right on with their honest reviews. It really helped us with our trip and was well worth the money.

Always great information!. Easy to use app, great information, fun and informative. The Driving Apps are fantastic as well. Thanks for making our Hawaiian Adventures better

Must Have for Hawaii Visitors. Love that the app is regularly updated, information is kept fresh, and reviews are so relevant. The live beach conditions are a great addition. Well worth it, although I’d still recommend the books to read ahead of time. Use the app when on island.

Maps are a great help. The maps in the app alone are worth getting it. You can see where you are even without cell service because of their GPS ability. More current info than the book is also helpful.

Very informative. This app didn't just tell me basic information on resorts and activities, it went into detail on the people and the story behind each place too which was incredible. I couldn't put the app down!

Useful App. This app came in handy during my trip because it included restaurant recommendations and reviews which saved us time looking for good spots. We were able to find a couple of restaurants with good food and a scenic view.

Perfect for groups!. My friends and I always disagree on what we should do while on vacation, but the map let us see what was nearby so we could all choose right away and meet back soon. Everyone was happy with it!

Unbelievable sights!. I can't imagine how the author found these places but I'm so glad he did! When they say unforgettable they mean unforgettable. I tried to go to as many places as possible in the adventure section of Kauai and it did not disappoint. Thank you so much!

Don’t go to Hawaii without these books!!. We have been using these island guides for over a decade to visit, and their info is invaluable and we have seen many “hidden” treasures found inthe guides! Keep exploring and reporting !!!

What a crock!!!!. I used to have this guide is a paper copy and it was great. So I thought it would be great to have the app. I was wrong. I know I have paid for the app at least once and maybe twice but it still has most of the information locked. I get three beaches, that’s it. If I click on one of the other beaches I get a message that says, “you did buy that information “. So after spending $8 on a few scraps of information, I give up! What a ripoff!

Accurate and fun to read!. An entertaining read for sure and so great to have on my phone! I noticed others with the blue books but I didn't want to look like a tourist so the app worked well.

Amazing App. My husband and I love this app! We used it all over the island. Before selecting something to do or a place to eat, we’d always check this app first. Highly recommend!

Trip to Hawaii. We had a wonderful trip to Hawaii just because my son recommended this app to have with us on our trip. We used the app whenever we had to make our choices about restaurants and dining places. Thank you!

Excellent resource. This app is very convenient and easy to use. Lots of information and objective reviews. Helped us find some things we missed on our previous visits.

Wouldn’t Travel to Hawaii Without It!. This app guided us throughout the island and we found the information easily accessible and very useful. There are so many hidden gems we probably wouldn’t have discovered without this app. A great travel companion!

How do I share with my husband?. I purchased app, but want it on my husband’s phone as we are both planning trip. We have a shared account. How can he login? I don’t want to pay 2x. I also would like to use app on my iPad. Please advise. Will rate higher if I can have on more then one device

Easy to use!. I have always been more of a book person than a cell phone user, but the mobile app has been so easy for me to use! I still have my revealed guidebooks with me, but the app is perfect for on the go!

MUST DOWNLOAD!!. If you’re interested in not wasting your time during vacation, download this app before you go!!! It allowed me to be incredibly well-versed on what beaches or areas of the island to visit. It is well-worth every penny spent! Thank you Andrew for your thorough, well-researched content that allowed us to have truly life changing vacations!

A Must Have for your dream Hawaii vacation. This app is the BEST.I don’t think I have ever written a review for an app, or anything else, before. But everything about this app made our trip so amazing. We also love the travel books and the driving guide app. Combined together they arm you with all you need to have the vacation of your dreams!

Excellent app - so worth the money. This app was an excellent purchase and made our trip so much more enjoyable! The concept of using GPS to explain exactly what to do and where to go at just the right moment is brilliant! It was fascinating to not only be pointed towards things you would never see without this app, but be given detailed information about the area you are in. The app’s author and guide is very knowledgeable, provides excellent insight and is a very engaging story teller. I highly recommend using this app to enhance your vacation.

A must have for any visitor. Pure and simple you shouldn’t travel to any Hawaiian island without either the book or the app. You’ll just be wasting money and missing out on a lot of awesome stuff.

Book is great, app is garbage. Continually loses my subscription and prompts me to repurchase or restore purchases. Restoring runs for hours and never completes. Tried on 2 different phones. Tried removing and reinstalling the app but that doesn’t help either. Will be trying to request a refund but it’s been a week of fighting with the app so I’m not hopeful.

Kauai. Spot on reviews. The App could use some improvements, but works pretty well. So great that it’s being updated regularly, such as surf conditions etc. The restaurant reviews are so subjective that I sometimes felt differently, but that’s in the nature of things. Mostly great tips! Highly recommended! On top of that, it’s a great read, well written, with wit and knowledge throughout.
