A must have for driving around Maui. We had the book 10 years ago during our first trip to Maui and felt like we were on a treasure hunt finding the sights. So, this time we were excited to see the app version and enjoyed having a tour guide everywhere we went. The navigation was on point and added value to our drive around the island. It also helped prioritize stops calling out must sees, places to skip, and places that we might not have been prepared for like a hike or more challenging trail. This was especially helpful since we had our 8 year old with us. The road to Hana there seem to be new no parking signs in the turnoffs that deter sightseers from stopping in places the app says would be a great place to stop. The “secret” spots from our trip 10 years ago are no longer a secret, and that made it difficult to see some things because all the legal parking spots were full. I’m excited so many can experience this beautiful place and what it has to offer, and maybe it was the time of day/year we visited, but we had to skip a few things for these reasons. We also saw police with a tow truck on the route, so they weren’t messing around with parking violators. We tried to stop again after we turned around (we only went half way) to go back but didn’t have any luck. It was still a great trip, but we were bummed that we couldn’t stop everywhere we wanted to.

Must have. Normally, I don’t write many reviews but this was a must have for our Maui vacation. First, extremely helpful for many of the remote locations including Hana road but also made driving easier with interesting stories along the way back. I highly recommend the app or something similar to get a much more productive Maui experience. Thank you Andrew!

Best money we spent!!. This app is amazing!! I have never once written a review or spent more than two dollars on an app, and this is a must have!! The app works perfectly and added so much to our vacation. Funny and informative…and never once boring! I don’t know how long this took to make, but thank you!!!!

Wasted my Money. Everything started out just fine. We left Kihei and planned to take the full circle route to Hana only we chose to go around in the opposite direction than usual. The narration was interesting, helpful and sometimes funny. However, the minute we passed the turn-off to the Haleakalā crater, the narration just stopped. It couldn’t locate our position. All notifications were turned on and working well until it simply stopped. I do recall the narrator stating something like, “not to worry if you stop and start as I will pick up wherever you are located.” Well, we never stopped at all before the program simply ended. I reviewed the troubleshooting tips and finally called the phone number twice, and left a message once but no one even bothered to respond. I was a fan of the Maui Revealed franchise but not any more. This was a total waste of my money. And now that I’m no longer in Maui, it’s completely useless.

Really wonderful guide. This app added so much to our trip around the island and we took advantage of most recs from the guide Andy. from choosing a camping site on the west side to exploring roads and attractions we would have passed without Andy’s extensive knowledge. The best guide I have ever used. Thanks Andy, you were a good companion to us.

Drive mode doesn’t work. While the information is great and Andrew is awesome with his narrative, the drive mode didn’t work. Tried all the troubleshooting suggestions and nothing worked. We had to resort to browse mode with my wife as operator as we hit waypoints. Was a hassle and not worth the app price.

Great travel app. I used this as a way to learn more about the island while I was driving, and I ended up getting a lot of really cool lessons on the sights and history of Hawaii. The narrations were fun and the information was incredibly clear and useful. I’m a big fan of these apps, and I definitely plan on using them as I travel to the other islands.

Best Money Spent. We totally enjoyed listening to the information. Made all of our trip so enjoyable.

Not family friendly!. The app works fine but the narration is cringeworthy at times and we frequently found ourselves turning down the volume given our young (5 and 9) kids were in the car. From tales of the narrator’s swim trunks getting sucked into an underwater scooter leaving him naked and figuring out what to do, to repeated violent accounts of Maui history, to cringeworthy anatomical references to describe Maui’s landmarks and sarcastic weigh ins on Hawaii public policy, all with the undertone of the narrator’s cynicism, this app, while effective and fine for teens and adults is just…weird…in its fixation to narrate so frequently with such an edge. It’s at times like listening to the awkward relative at the family dinner who can’t really read the room.

Super slick. This is so easy to use and we learned so much. Even though we gave the book this made things so much easier!

Million Dollar Idea. The concept of this app is a million dollar idea that should be incorporated EVERYWHERE! This app extremely detailed and informative and it’s hands free. Open the app and start driving…brilliant! Just be sure to bring your car charger, which he also reminds you to do during his narration. No stone was left unturned. Excellent job, Andy! I HIGHLY recommend this app to anyone traveling to Maui!

Must Have for Maui. Been to Maui many times and thought I knew all the places to se and do. This app changed that and was amazing - fun and informative! A must have if you are driving around the island and want a “companion” along the way to guide the trip!

The best money I spent on Maui. Mr. Dougherty’s (Andy to us, as we got to know him well as he guided about) is certainly knowledgeable. But surely others are as well. But good old Andy is clever, funny, interesting, not afraid to tell you what sights are not as great as advertised and which ones are definitely worth the time. No paging through guide books - although Maui Revealed is easy to use and excellent- you just drive and Andy speaks up when you near something of interest. It is a remarkable GPS guided app and he is a gift. BUY IT.

Best thing we got on vacation. We visit every year, and this app made this trip incredible. I highly recommend it. Only thing was we had a little trouble connecting it to our car, but once we figured it out. It worked great. Highly recommend this

Maui Drive App. This was a true gem to use on the island! Really enjoyed all the back stories and got a Big laugh from the heavy sigh on the road ( very, very narrow road!) on Western Maui to Kahului narration 😆 Would be happy to buy the dude a Mai tai as a thanks for an informative and fun app! Very helpful! Highly recommend. We’re just about to fly home from Maui and used this app a LOT on our trip. An absolute must especially if you’re driving the road to Hana. Be sure to download the full app and content BEFORE your arrival because then it’ll work regardless of internet connection, which can be spotty around Maui. Also, you should know that the guide is continually updating the commentaries so the information won’t be outdated.

One of the Best Apps EVER. We’ve used Andrew’s books on Kauai and Maui for years, but this app is even better. It uses GPS and requires no wifi or cellular connection. We got it for our recent trip to Maui. It literally follows you around the island and really is like having the author in the backseat. It was invaluable on our drive to Hana, Maui’s west side and on the road up Haleakala. Like his books, we agree with all his comments and recommendations. I highly recommend it.

Such a fun addition to our trip!. So helpful! The narration was the perfect combination of informative and fun. We found ourselves listening to sections over and over because we wanted to make sure we didn’t miss anything. And we found ourselves laughing out loud at some of the funny stories. A big thumbs up from us!

Very helpful app. I bought the book to research for the trip and used the app while we drove around the island. We definitely saw more and discovered things I wouldn’t have remembered from just reading the book because of Andy’s helpful comments along the way. We would have missed out on the cool lava tube on the road to Hana if we didn’t have the app!! It was my daughter’s favorite stop! We were excited to see what we would learn from Andy everyday. Must buy for Maui exploring!. Definitely worth the money! I have used the revealed books for other vacations but this is even better than the books! My kids loved listening to the history and I appreciated the timely recommendations. The information was very useful. Love it!

Overall Nicely Done and better than others. Overall we appreciated the content, insight and humor. We liked they when there wasn’t anything to be said it didn’t play a repetitive sound track in the back and the humor didn’t make you cringe. Our primary challenge was in the Road To Hana. He warns about driving too fast and audio getting out of sync, and we were in sync. But sometimes he talks too much without enough of a detailed description and the next thing you know you are past the point of interest. I would prefer he tells you what is coming up, short additional content and then tells you again when to turn BEFORE you arrive at the point of interest. If you have the book, quite a bit of the content is directly from the book. It is supplemented by some new content. I really like his commentary on which items are worth stopping at and which ones are not.

Like having a fun guide in the back seat. We totally enjoyed driving around Maui while this app told us funny stories, historical information, where to stop for food, views, etc. This was especially useful on the Road to Hana. We would have missed so much without this app.

Love this app!. We have used the Hawaii revealed books for years on several islands. After several years of being away, we returned to visit Maui last week and decided to try the app. We learned so much and literally drove every inch of the island listening and stopping where we wanted. I felt like Andy was our personal tour guide and good friend :) Can’t recommend it enough. Will definitely download again on visits to other islands in the future. He even had it updated to discuss the tragedy of the fire in Lahaina.

Terrific experience. This app was a wonderful complement to the book. The functionality worked without a hitch. We used the app for the entire ride and back on the road to Hana, for the complete journey around West Maui (the views are worth the scary drive), and for our exploration of the beaches in south Maui. We really enjoyed the insights.

My 5th time to Maui. Despite this being my 5th visit to Maui, I wished I had this app my first, second and so on times here. It’s like having our own private tour guide. We are traveling with my son and family. My 2 teenage grandchildren are really into this app. It has made our holiday much more interesting.

Great idea but needs some polishing.. Had a similar experience to MinnScribe of Feb 1. Good on the way to Hana but kicked out and had a one way orientation. That is, hit the points and descriptions on the way to Hana but not on the way back from Hana to Kahului. Other quirk was I had to shut down my phone to get out of the app. It was working in the background when I was not using it. Lots of potential but feels kind of beta version. Liked Andy’s narrative. Good voice.

A must-have for touring Maui. This app will make any drive around Maui vastly more pleasurable and informative. The narratives are automatically keyed to your GPS location, so you just turn it on and let it tell you what you are seeing, where to stop (and what to skip) and everything about the history and geology of Maui. Worth every penny.

Absolutely indispensable. This app is truly amazing. It uses the phone's GPS to tell you what's around the next bend, where to stop, which places aren't worth the effort and which ones are to die for. It displays the author's deep knowledge and love of Maui and gives unvarnished reviews of places to eat and shop, as well as all the possible activities. A real winner.

Top notch guide. Just got back from our first trip to Maui and found this app an essential part of our trip. A “must have” guide! Really glad I got it!! Just one small issue and that is the app doesn’t turn off when it’s closed, and I have to reboot my phone to get the upper left blue icon to turn off.

The best thing I purchased. We purchased the Maui revealed book and the audio travel app. We loved it. It was a private tour guide in your car. We would have missed many beautiful spots if we had not purchased this application. Don’t go to Maui without it.

I bought the books before the trip so we could plan ahead and then while there, downloaded each island app and they worked perfectly. Best Travel Companion. We are traveling with our kids and Andrew became the main attraction! While we are in the road (and no phones and iPads allowed), we have been learning about the island and having fun with the stories! We have only been to restaurants recommended by the guide with the ONO seal, and it has been great!! Thank you!!!

Necessary and Fun. Listening to this app really enhanced our second trip to Maui. We read the book, but hearing Doughty’s minute-by-minute descriptions of the sites we were passing in real time enriched our experience, and saved us time, as we only stopped at locations he recommended. Liked his voice and witty quips.

Must Download for Maui. I was genuinely blown away with how much this app helped my trip to Maui. The geolocation and narration, especially in parts of the island which had no cell service (such as Road to Hana), genuinely made me feel safe and comfortable as Andrew pointed out which stops on the island were worth our time and which weren’t. This saved me a lot of time and logistical planning. There were many times where the app would effectively “predict” what I was thinking (e.g., “You’re probably wondering why the road is so windy here”) and then provide useful information and background. I learned a lot about Maui / Hawaiian culture just having the app on in the background of my car and I will definitely be downloading the other audio apps for other Hawaiian trips in the future!

The Best! Must have for your trip to Maui!. My husband and I just finished a week long trip to Maui. We used this app everywhere we went and it was amazing. There is a information about history, things to do and places to see. The commentary is not too much it’s just a perfect amount of information. Funny too! Our trip was better because we used this app.

Using during 2022 spring vacation - awesome. We are using this during out 2022 spring vacation. It is awesome. Love the app, learned a lot, distracted from a few scary parts of the drive, and I would highly recommend the app! Only recommendation, have the option for some kind of audible beep. App crashed three times and didn’t know it was offline. (gotta stay focused on driving safely)

Best app for Maui. So helpful! Made our time in Maui so efficient. Must have if you want to see the island. We drove around West Maui, Haleakala and all of south Maui with this app during our week stay. Best travel expense ever.

Get this app for your trip!. We always buy the books for our trips. When we found the Hawaii Revealed audio guide we had a game changer. All the places we weren’t brave enough to go to suddenly became compelling as we were driving along. Or also maybe because I don’t follow directions very well? The Maui Revealed app is the same experience. It made our trip 20x better!

Invaluable!. Incredibly detailed. We leave the app on every time we drive this week! We’ve driven the entire perimeter and Haleakala with this app. The stories are so interesting (mile marker 14 had us laughing so hard!). The switch back driving deep breaths around West Maui and every other detail has been so wonderful. Can’t imagine this trip without it.

Family from BC Canada. My Wife and Children came to Maui in October 22 , we decided to do the Road to Hana and downloaded this app . We loved that it was a free app unlike all the others . This app blew me away as it also has the whole island not just the Road to Hana and when we turned around and went back to Kihei he also narrated history of the island . We are now doing the North Island through Kaanapali . Just a great app and his narration is top notch.

Outstanding Guide through Maui. This was suggested to me by a friend. This app did not disappoint. It was thorough, interesting, funny, and most importantly, helpful. It is absolutely worth the money.

ESSENTIAL for any trip to Hawaii!. I can not begin to express how much the driving guide added to our experience. No need for wifi, once it is downloaded onto your phone its like having a private guide in the car with you. There are plenty of places where there's no wifi on Hawaii, but we always had Hawaii revealed. Worked seamlessly with Spotify. And we learned and saw SO MUCH thanks to this app. But there's more... We cried laughing at the naarrator's stories - even where there was nothing to see he had something to say to keep even our teenagers fully engage.. We learned so much. We explored so much. And, when we listened to your Mahalo as we headed to the airport on our last day, we cried at the thought of not just leaving Hawaii, but of leaving our Driving Guide narrator. GET THIS APP. You will NOT BE disappointed!

If only it worked well. No clear way to begin a route for a desired destination. We wanted to go to Hana but app kept guessing we wanted to go elsewhere. Basically, useless to us.
