# The Simple Writing App
iA Writer removes distractions. Giving you a calm, focused, writing space, so you can express yourself clearly.
Focus Mode dims everything but the current sentence or paragraph, helping you stay in the flow.
Don’t worry about the format. First, write in plain text. Then preview in HTML.
Search, sort, and quickly swap between documents from different clouds.
When you tap and hold a key in the command keyboard, you’re given the chance to choose your own layout. Rearrange your keys, or pick new ones from the extensive list.
You can open documents and launch frequent actions in no time with the new Quick Search. It lives in the keyboard so it’s always close at hand.
iA Writer includes an inverted light-on-dark-mode, perfect for working day and night.
Spot superfluous adjectives, weak verbs, repetitive nouns, false conjunctions and clean your text of the usual rumble.
Customize your templates and export to WordPress or Medium, HTML, Microsoft Word (.docx), or PDF.

This application makes it easier for me to write. I highly recommend it.
The developer is behind this product truly are passionate about making good product and considering things like user interface and ease-of-use. I truly appreciate the value I get for the cost of the product. I also appreciate the momentum to upgrade the product with new usable features and maintain its stability with updates in tandem with iOS. Keep up the good work!
I tried to get a refund but Apple refused. It does not support aligning right if i started typing in Arabic.
This one app is a workflow changer. More versatile and friendly than its competitors. More attractively, you BUY it, NO SUBSCRIPTION. I would actually gladly pay another $1 for the recent updates. Plus, I use it on my ipad, macbook, and when I get home.. on my PC. First class app.
This is the first editor on the iPad that actually works, and does exactly what I want it to do. And yes, I can totally access my files on DropBox and OneDrive, through the iOS Files settings. In fact, I love the new shortcut feature that let me designate a favorite folder in DropBox as a favorite.
Update (iA Writer 5.2.7) : What a clean, well thought-out app. I get a cursor, a blank page, and my thoughts to begin my writing, as it should be. I will proselytize about this app for as long as it is being made and kept current. Thanks for helping me get back to writing my novel in a clean (with just enough structure), uncluttered and fun app to use. It makes me want to open it several times per day, which I do!
This is the new review 👇🏽 I’m using the app from 6 months until now in iPhone and it's my by default app to writing now. Best choice I've ever made. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I used is Writer first in Android and I loved how the app subtle integrated with Google Drive and now in IOS, I feel the same. But there's no integration with Drive in IOS. Also, I can not add my texts as drafts to Medium even though I got the integration token. Hope the team can fix it soon. It's a beautiful app but we need to focus on writing, of course, and integration to develop our writing in blogs. Thanks.
I’m moving over from Ulysses to iAWriter for a bit more distraction free writing of my novel. However, iAWriter’s instructions on how to set up and use it are not clear enough. In my mind, such a good simple app, should have good simple instructions. I want to like this app, and I’m sure I’d give it a 5 star if this was not such a problem. Inky Digits
Would like more fonts. Large fonts to send to visually impaired
I really enjoy using this app as both a writing pad and for lists. The todo checkboxes are a really nice touch. My only feature suggestion would be to allow customisation of the formatted preview, or a better default format, similar to how GitHub formats markdown with left alignment and balanced vertical spacing.
Amazing app which I use all the time across Mac, phone and iPad. Can't fault the amazing customer support either!
This app is ... was a great writing program but it doesn't know if it wants to be a cloud storage app! OR a Writing app. Once had great, file handling, I just want to write which updates have ruined. Another update! This app has got worse! Deleting it once and for all!
Hi! Thanks for the great application. I however would love to have more control over the appearance/design. Both of the fonts are very nice, but would also love to see more iOS-bundled fonts, such as San Francisco and Avenir Next. These aren’t fixed-width fonts, but that is fine with me. Line height, and character spacing would also be very welcome. Please make it happen!
Awesome markdown-based editor. Clean, Simple and effective. Syncs (via iCloud) to my iPad and MacBook so I can work across devices.
Terrific app hamstrung by poor Dropbox support. Works best if one is content with notes being in a sandboxed icloud folder only.
Files on Dropbox must be opened *individually*. No way to link up with a folder within Dropbox. Worthless for my use case.
Constantly crashing; has corrupted multiple documents; avoid until updated.
Generally well thought-out design. You can either use it as a simple text editor and manager, or as a more powerful tool. Syncing works basically flawlessly. The custom keyboard row is super helpful. Receives fairly regular updates.
Got (had) it on all my devices. I am a writer, and after belting out three thousand words, I find it sometimes refuses to sync. Happened three times. Dropped it like a hot potato.
Fluid and seamless fullscreen, dark mode environment for a real writer who prefers to get the words down. Excellent library organization and #tagging. Indispensable. Great support.
I use this app daily, both on iphone and mac and it delivers every time. Highly recommended
IA writer is the cleanest, most minimalistic yet most powerful text editor out there. I write everything from email marketing copy to books on it. It’s so awesome, it makes me want to write more!
Whether I'm writing a quick note in my journal, a blog entry, or a short story, iA Writer is my go-to app. When in ready to publish, it's a piece of cake to export as HTML, PDF, or as Markdown to my laptop. And now, with the latest upgrade, to Microsoft Word. If you're looking for a fast and flexible writing app, you can't go wrong with iA Writer.
I have tried every app out there, this is the only one I can focus in. That’s not against the other apps and more of a personal problem. I started a novel in 2015. Sometimes I stare at the screen for an hour before a word comes—this is the only app pretty enough to look at that long. Everything melts. That’s a cherry on top of the simplicity iA provides to write whatever it is you have to work on. Since the last few rounds of updates, it seemed like perfect timing. I was able to start organizing in files as I read and edit with hashtags and it all started to come together. Otherwise I might have had to go hunting for a different tool to do the editing in. There are more impressive tools out there, Ulysses etc... But the simplicity of use and beauty of iA is, so far, unbeatable.
Once it dawns on oneself that this app is all anyone needs to get things done in text without that horrible Interface fluff they will be a fan of this app forever!
They replaced the beautiful Nitti font with three new ones, none of which I like as much as the previous font. Wish I could roll back this update.
Solid, dependable app. Devs sweat the details.
There’s nothing I can say bad about iA Writer. Love the app in every way. First off, the app creates individual files in iCloud so that you can access them anytime should you decide to move to another MD editor. It has hashtags, favorites (for quick access to your directories or files), smart tags, sorting, preview, and more. And NO subscriptions. Runs on all my devices, MacBook, iPad, iPhone (and if you have an Android that too!) I’ve tried all the MD editors, Editorial (still a 2nd favorite), Bear, and others. The problem with Bear (besides the subscription) is that if you decide to move to another editor you’ll have to export the files that are stored in a database sync’d to iCloud. The export may not be what you are looking for. Editorial is great except you’ll require Dropbox as it doesn’t support iCloud. IA Writer has them all beat. I’ve even moved off of DayOne as my journaling app and am using iA Writer for all my journals. I did have a problem with one of my devices not syncing with the others after I fiddled with my iPad time. The iA Writer team wasn’t much help. They said it was an iCloud sync issue (which it was) but couldn’t help me at all. I found the answer by trial and error. Just turned off the iCloud Drive sync, waited a few minutes, and turned it back on again. Viola. No issues at all. (It would have been nice if the iA Writer folks had been more helpful instead of claiming ignorance and deferring the problem to Apple.) One suggestion: Provide password protection. (They’ve said it’s coming)
Creating a file on Dropbox requires lots of work. Integration used to be good but they ruined it. If your connectivity is spotty the app will make you crazy. Why using that ugly modal to browse Dropbox ?
This app is the best editor for most needs and continues to build on its strengths. I would recommend buying it for all the various platforms but it works just as well on a single platform. Great combination of functionality and style. Highly recommended.
It freezes every time when you click 'preview’. I have a brand new 2018 iPad, so it's not a hardware issue. Very dissapointing.
Excellent app, great for knocking out drafts and quick documents.
