What a game!. Ive never left a review but this changed that I dont really like games on my phone and didn’t expect much honestly, but this game is well thought out and fun. Super addicting and rewarding.

If you love chess, you’ll love this game. Very intriguing take to the chess game. It’s fun and adds rougelite ideas to the game.

A perfect PC port. Shotgun king stands out from the existing chess rouge likes and was well ported from the PC version to mobile. One critic is that I wish it was easier to save mid run since this is a mobile game. However the gameplay and depth is exactly like the pc version.

Shotgun King. I don’t even like chess, but I love this game. The retro look and sound fits this game perfectly. TONS of cards. Each game is totally random, so you never play the same game twice. My first day I played the game 50+ times. Well worth my money. Well worth my time playing it. Excellent!

Great game but…. Just starting by saying it’s a lot of fun I’ve got it on steam and saw it on phone and had to get it again. I would have given it 5 stars but I can’t Unfortunately, when trying to use the run n gun shoes(can’t remember the name) the game froze on me. Music stopped playing, pieces stopped wiggle I couldn’t move; had to quit the game and on return I lost my run. At this point unless that is fixed I can’t play again. Not exactly sure how the bug happened, but if it happened once I’m sure it’ll happen again so I hope it’s identified soon cause this game is so much fun. Until then 2 stars so this is noticed and addressed before it happens to others.

The best chess roguelite finally comes to Mobile. Bought this game the SECOND I saw it on the App Store because I’ve played at least a dozen hours on steam and it’s been amazing, easily the best chess roguelite ever made and I can’t wait for it to take up hours and hours of time I would normally have spent doom scrolling.

Money well spent. Worth every cent. Love the how each play through has different needs for strategy

Pretty much perfection!. A perfect combination of rougelike mechanics, strategy, difficulty, and of course chess! No this isn’t how you play real chess but with many achievements, shotguns, difficulties, secrets, and a few other game modes, you just might never run out of fun! Though I warn everyone, and not in a negative aspect: if you reach rank 10, then be prepared for a very difficult game! Overall, I love this game and those with a love for chess, strategy, rougelike or even just one of these should try this game. Oh, and if you combine the final countdown card with an undercover mission or a spy, select countdown reversal, activate the countdown, and don’t kill any piece when it activates, you’ll get an achievement!

Where is the Vietnamese language?. I’ve Vietnamese on pc pls add it

Near perfection. This would be absolutely perfect if you could continue your play through after the app has been closed for any length of time.

If you pay for a game, pay for this one. The gameplay loop is so entertaining to me, so many little details I’m surprised this game is not more popular. However, I keep encountering a glitch where using right stick to aim while using the white shoes or the search orb causes the game to freeze completely. Works same as pc version otherwise

Clunky controls. Great game if it werent for the clunky controls. Either let me drag and shoot or drag and move or tap to shoot or tap to move, every time but not all 4 at random.

Great game for quick breaks.. I read a review that said it’s worth buying, so I took the plunge and I can say, definitely worth it. I love the mechanics and chess themes. I’ve never really been keen to chess but this makes it fun for me. Fun to play with my son. Good thing he can read certain words yet.

Why. good but why does it have to do with stealing souls and pentagrams for some things in the game it’s chess why does it need to have that

Worth Every Penny. I play chess every day and randomly saw this pop up on pre orders in December 2025 so I screenshotted it so I wouldn’t forget. It came out today and I had to check it out. From the opening menu screen and brilliant old school sound design I knew I found a gem but was curious how a shotgun could fit into an already perfect strategy game like chess. Turns out…It always needed a 12 gauge. It’s got some of the funniest dialogue I’ve seen in a game and I’m weirdly invested in the story. Combat is super satisfying and it’s just a super well made strategy game. If you love chess and you’ve wanted to blow up a horse that’s threatening a checkmate but can’t…now you can. I’m gonna struggle to return to chess having experienced what it’s like to use a BOOM STICK on those pesky traitorous white pieces. FOR THE KING!!!!!!!

Really fun chill game. I really enjoy this game it’s challenging enough and and is relaxing 10/10

👎 Such a great roguelike until you get past the first handful of games.. It quickly becomes clear in the higher difficulties how paramount it is to get good RNG between black and white cards, which makes for a really unsatisfying experience when the only way to get a 'good' build is by spamming games and hoping for the best. Such little build agency even in the alternate modes leaves a lot to be desired. If theorycrafting combinations or working towards 'fun' builds is your thing, don't even bother -- Shotgun King offers no avenue for choosing the direction of your build. (Seriously, Endless mode still only lets you pick 10 cards just like the main gamemode? Just make the main mode optionally continue after victory and make Endless actually Endless)

Well done. This is the first chess-like game where being good at chess helps you play better. Great game.

Stay away from the Royal Loafers. Great game! Experimental builds are rewarded with new shotguns, which is a fun incentive. Different game modes to switch things up if you need. I personally love the original Throne and climbing the ranks. Would be a 5 , but the game is currently bugged. The Royal Loafers, the one that makes you run and gun, crashes the game. If you’re curious , try the demo on Steam and see for you like it. That’s how I got into this. I prefer the ease of playing on my phone instead of being locked down on my PC. Seems very fitting to be a game you can play on the go.

Amazing Game, Critical Bugs (Crashes). I love the game but the game crashes various points. The most regular crash seems to be when wearing the “shoes” and aiming. Some other crashes have occurred as well. Happens 25% of my runs which is frustrating.

Good game, but no mid-run saves. The game is a fine take on the roguelike genre. Very replayable, interesting choices once you get your head around the gameplay. Losses really feel like it’s your fault and not simple RNG, which is satisfying. There’s a few small UX issues when playing on mobile, like differentiating between moves and attacks when you have long movements available. However, my main issue is the lack of a save file mid-run. If you close the game for any amount of time you will lose all progress and have to start anew. A pretty frustrating feature on mobile (where play sessions are shorter than PC) – would probably give it 5-stars if they fixed that.

Chess v2.0. I’ve been wondering my whole life how to better my chess game. Books, watching YouTube clips of Magnus Carlsen games, chess club, hours of practice. Little did I know that it wasn’t me that had to improve… it was chess. This is the new incarnation of chess. Great game folks! It’s hard.

Fun , but a few bugs. I’m generally a fan of roguelite games like dicey dungeons, slay the spire, Balatro, etc. This has a similar feel but with chess mechanics mixed in. I am enjoying it but I feel it could have more depth, more games modes and guns. Controls for some specific abilities are not explained well, like using blades and throwing pieces. Also ran into some bugs - sound completely cuts out after a while and there is a specific strafe ability which causes the game to crash. Hopefully all this can be addressed with some timely updates. Other than that it is a fun little game to spend a few minutes on

Needs a save option. Great game but forces you to do the tutorial again every single time you close it and open it there’s no save method really need one badly

Saves are broken. Right now, you will lose all of your data whenever you close the game. I got to rank 2 then came back after work to find that I had to restart from the beginning. This has happened 3 times now and I really want to unlock the other weapons :(. Big fan of this game on PC but it’s unplayable on mobile until this is fixed

Good but one big problem. Great game with great mechanics and quick runs. Big problem is there is no mid run saving so it’s hard to finish playing when it’s on mobile

Progress restarts on close. Every time I close the app I lose my progress and restart the tutorial.

An addictive twist on chess. Shotgun King is a surprisingly addictive twist on chess. It’s intuitive to pick up, genuinely challenging, and random enough to keep every run fresh so it never feels boring. The only real downside is the lack of a save feature. Finishing a full run in one sitting isn’t always practical, so being able to continue where you left off would make the experience even better.

Kings shoulders is broken. Kings shoulders should really be an equip item like grenades, it’s currently the case that if you haven’t used kings shoulders that floor, can’t shoot a piece that’s next to you unless there is a piece behind to target instead….

Solid. It’s a good game overall. There’s no way to save a run if you have to close the app. Also, sometimes if you do another task on your phone and come back to it you’ll lose audio or have overlapping audio tracks with no sound effects.

Fun but one thing…. So I love the game and the concept but the thing I hate is how many times I get trapped. It’s probably just a skill issue though.

Poorly Balanced. I’ve played damn near every roguelike and the balance here is insanely poor. The gimmick is every time you get a boon between rounds, the opponent does as well. The problem is the opponent’s buffs makes yours seem like pennies. Example boon is kill your range to get a tiny blade that only works when you’re next to an opponent and they have low health. Basically get up close where it’s most dangerous - essentially a nerf. Meanwhile your opponent can get a rook which is a one hit kill enemy with 10+ range in 4 directions. It’s silly. Only a few cards are actually good like a hilariously overpowered moat that walls off enemies. Got bored at the 4th ascension level. Regret buying.

Fun game but no save feature??. The game is good. Runs well on mobile. But the lack of no save while in the middle of a run HURTS. I can’t start a game on a lunch break and then get back into it after work. So there’s just no reason to play it until later in the day when I get time for a full session. That really sucks.

Play if you like the difficulty. I'm writing this because I found the game too difficult, so I'm leaving this review because I found the game too difficult for me. But again, if you don't mind the difficulty but this game. I know this review won't apply to everyone, but this is just my opinion, it's too difficult for me.
