The Elements in Action App Reviews
The Elements in Action App Description & Overview
What is the elements in action app? ‘One of my favorite science-based apps...The Elements in Action is easy to navigate and attractively designed.’
– The New York Times
The periodic table comes to life with 79 video explorations of the weird, wonderful, and sometimes alarming properties of the elements. Filmed by BAFTA award winner Max Whitby in partnership with Theodore Gray, author of the iconic book and app The Elements, and previously available only in a few museum installations, this is the most beautifully filmed collection of videos ever assembled to explore and explain what makes each element unique and fascinating.
What happens when highly reactive rubidium is dropped into water? Or when a cannonball is placed in a pool of mercury? The Elements in Action shows you one definitive demonstration for (almost) every element, ranging from the bizarre to the sublime, all assembled in one place for you to view in the comfort and safety of your iPad, with very little danger of death by fire, dismemberment, or poisoning.
The Elements in Action works as a stand-alone app, but really shines when combined with the original app, The Elements by Theodore Gray. Installed together, the two apps find each other and link together, allowing you to flip seamlessly between viewing the elements as objects of contemplation in the original, and objects of dynamic action in the second.

Previously owned full version of elements app now only have this. I previously owned the full elements app and now only have access to the elements in action instead. I haven’t had an apple product in a decade and was disappointed to find out that I was grandfathered out of an app I paid money for. I am not the only user to experience this either as evident from other reviews. Don’t buy!
Great app...but. This app is wonderful and by an amazing author that got me interested in chemistry. The only complaint that I could find was that some elements don't have reactions such as iridium #77 and some of them aren't particularly exciting such as calcium #20> other than that 100% chemistry nerd approved!
Buy nothing but this one. This is the most fully rounded, interesting app about the elements. The others might be useful to a scientist, but they are NOT for public consumption. Don't waste your money. This one covers all the important bases that the others want you to pay for. This one has the miniature spinning element. It has real life interaction. It is just the best. I'm giving it four stars because the other apps by Theodore gray are so deceptive.
Amazing reference tool. Has multiple pages of information on all the elements, beautiful pictures and reference images. Excellent tool to use for educational purposes, teaching, etc. Is expensive, so has few reviews. Has few reviews, so no one buys it I guess. Catch 22.
Simply fascinating!. Learn how to stick it to Big Salt and make ur own at home!
Storage hog!. This is a beautiful app, the look/ feel/ responsiveness are all top notch and it's well worth the price. But here's the thing, unlike many (more well designed) apps, all of the content is stored on the iPad rather than on a remote server. Storage on our iOS devises is valuable stuff, in fact the average cost per Gb is about $15. In my opinion his is a high price to pay to store local data on my iPad when this app could consume less than 20Mb of space. Basically my complaint being that I don't need this data "offline" enough to warent the size it consumes. It's a fantastic app with an equally fantastic flaw. I hope to see the content moved to an online server in some upcoming version.
Can't download. I would love to be able to try out this app. There is plenty of free space on my iPad, but this app will not download.
This App steals your card info and steals your money!. I paid for this app and it continued to charge my card every 20 seconds until i locked my card!
Cool app. The Elements in Action is the periodic table come to life. It describes and displays the characteristic properties of each element in a live video. This app takes full advantage of the iPads abilities, and it is very impressive from not only an information viewpoint, but graphically also. Not all elements are displayed however, and I hope to see them mentioned in future updates. Paired with its sister app "The Elements" - the two together are phenomenal. There are unsecured links to the app store, but I would recommend this for older kids who love natural sciences. I am downgrading 1 star due to the app being incomplete at this writing.
Cool App. I'm glad someone finally did that. I say it's every bit worth it's money. Excellent job on the app.
😝. Awesome app!
Terrible. The app is a waste of time and money! $4 for meaningless 15 second videos and pointless explanations. Very little practical knowledge and information is presented. It only covers a few elements and not the entire periodic table. I can use nothing in my education programs. I'd like the money back!
Awesome. I love it
Takes up half a GB and is missing elements. The app takes up a ton of space. It's larger than my PDFs editing app plus all my PDFs combined by a wide margin. Also randomly doesn't have entries for element 21 and one or two others.
Maybe it’s the nostalgia taking. The demonstrations can be better and more plentiful, I had a teacher who did one a day and they were amazing.
Well worth the price. This app is beautifully designed. There are videos for many elements on the periodic table, not just common ones like carbon and aluminum. Watch a pure alkali metal explode in water, a lead ball float in a bowl of mercury and francium oxidize before your eyes. Educational and fun.
Cool. Very cool app, would like to see more videos
Great element app!. This app is great for studying elements and has awesome videos of them reacting to other stuff. It would be nice if you made a way to enlarge the actual element photo and look at it in three d like your other app. But this app is a must have for people who like explosions and the science behind it!😜
Pretty good. This app has worked well. While I would appreciate a little more information, the videos are pretty cool and provide a great general picture. I would definitely recommend this app.
Wors app ever. I want my money back
Yeah!. Great app!
Nice concept, poor execution, waste of money.. More than half of the videos are inaccessible. There's real rhyme or reason why. It looks like there is available content but the item is grayed out. Specifically, 36 videos are non-functional. The ones that are look like they were filmed with a cheap 8mm back in the 80s. Lesson learned on my part -buyer beware on yours.
Aged out of purchase?. This was the very first App I purchased with my first iPad. I don’t understand why it is no longer available to me, free. I don’t recall being told that I was “renting” the app for a period of time. That is not how it was sold.

Thought I got the whole thing. Very educational but I have to pay 15 dollars for full information and the full 118 elements
Excellent. Very informative and well done. Recommended for students and teachers.
My favourite app. Essential for Chemistry teachers!! Short videos and demos to show students the wonderful world of Chemistry. Well worth the money! I use this all the time with seniors and juniors.
Good, but not great. Like all the apps by Touch Press, this is a fairly polished app. The videos are fun to watch once or twice. It is nice how there is a button to quickly swap to the main The Elements app, and another button there to swap back again. However, the content itself is not very deep, and not particularly great quality. It would be nice to have more than one short video per element, eg if there are a couple of different interesting reactions for that element. And even then, not all elements have videos. The videos feel like they should have just been an in-app purchase in The Elements. This would save having two apps, with identical layouts. The videos are not professionally shot. The chemistry might be interesting, but it is not particularly well shown. And the text explaining each video could be a lot more detailed, proving a deeper explanation of what is going on.
Brilliant. Fantastic companion app for Elements

Not all there..... This isn't bad but not all of the elements are there, some are "greyed out". When you try and touch them nothing happens. It doesn't even tell you what it is. So I'm only giving it 2 stars for that reason. It's missing a ton of info, or another way of looking at it is that it is only half done.. $3.99 is to much for a half done app. What I think they want you to do (to fill in the greyed out elements) is to buy a second elements app. That one is $13.99... Lol Actually they just lost another star.... I'm down to 1 here.. May sound harsh but really make one app and I will buy it.. Don't start breaking it up and make me spend almost $20 to get all the info that this app should have had.
Bravo!!. Très très belle application. Il y a longtemps que je n'avais pas vue une application aussi intéressante et captivante. Bravo!
Meh. This app is so pointless (watched all vid in about 15min, better ones are available on YouTube), I don't want to take the risk of buying Molecules. Elements is so great, the bar was so high..but this seems slapped together.
Zzz. Very good!
Super cool. I think I learned more in 20 mins with this app then in all of my science classes in high school. Missing a few of the elements they seem to be greyed out but im sure theyll fix that up in no time.
Hey kid. Dude they are blocked out because they either exist for seconds or illegal to own! Great app
