This game is awesome. Basically just like many of the peak old school rpgs, but with a lot of modern polish. Good combat and just really charming, it’s really cool to see an actual game on mobile.

Smooth, Polished, and Fun. Sea of Stars has been an absolute joy so far. About five hours in, and it already feels like a love letter to classics like Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, two of my all-time favorites. The combat, exploration, and overall vibe hit that same nostalgic sweet spot while still feeling fresh. The humor lands, the music is fantastic, and everything just comes together in a really polished way. I’ve also been especially impressed with the Relics system, which lets you tailor the difficulty to your preference. Some make the game more forgiving (like automatically healing after battles so you don’t have to constantly manage menus), while others add extra challenge. It’s a great approach that makes the game more accessible without taking away from the core experience. The mobile version itself is very well done. The touch controls feel natural and responsive, and I haven’t experienced any issues with overheating or noticeable battery drain (iPhone 16). One small downside is that manual saves are limited to designated save points. That said, they’re plentiful, and the game seems to autosave frequently enough that it hasn’t been a problem. If you grew up loving classic RPGs, this is an easy recommendation.

Love this game!!. Original I had bought this on my Switch and loved it so much that I figured I’d buy it on my phone as well since I never take my Switch with me. The only reason I’m giving the version 4 starts is because there is 0 graphics controls and my iPhone 16 pro max is better than my Switch and the Switch version looked better. Second the game needs more quick saves because there has been a few times where I left the game closed for too long only to come back and lose 30-45 minutes of work.. but still highly recommend this game. One of the better stories to come out as of late.

Pre-Ordered the hell out of it. And it did not disappoint oh my god. The graphics, the art style, the fluid animation, the combat, the relic features that give players more customization and accessibility, and the music. All peak. But the UI for settings is a bit clunky, you have to click around too much just to get 5 items to adjust, and aside from settings, when you try to skip a cutscene, the game takes a second to register both fingers before loading the next scene. Otherwise, aside from these two issues, amazing game.

Extremely high quality mobile JRPG. Highly recommend. 35+ hours of amazing gameplay for $9 is a hell of a good deal. I couldn’t stop playing. It just kept getting better and better.

Awesome developers. There was a soft lock bug in the game, but within a few hours they already had it patched. It’s a beautiful and fun game with developers that care

Very fun but Glitch is completely halting progress. I’m at the Botanical Horrors fight and no matter what, the screen glitches. I’ve seen that the devs know about it but the work around they suggested doesn’t work. I will change my rating accordingly when this is fixed but until then, I have to give it a lower rating.

Fantastic game. This brings back childhood memories. This game has been on my mind for a while especially on steam. Classic jrpg adventure with some twists. This game is made for mobile and the controls are very intuitive.

A Worthwhile RPG. I checked the online reviews before deciding to shell out the $8 for this. So far, it’s lived up to the positive reviews. The graphics are colorful and surprisingly well detailed. Done in what I’d say is reminiscent of 32-bit pixel games, but the level of shading and environmental animations bring a depth to the world. The story and characters are your standard JRPG fare, but if you’re into these games that’s not a negative, it’s just saying that part isn’t new or extra creative. I had trouble at first figuring out what the battle instructions meant when saying to hold a particular button to enhance the attack, because the icon doesn’t look like any visible buttons on the screen, then I realized it meant to just press and hold the screen. It’s more obvious on the male character’s sun ball attack than on the female character’s Luna attacks. And blocking to reduce damage seems more challenging to master. My biggest criticism is with the cut scenes. I don’t see a way to speed them up, so you have to tap your way through dialogue for what seems like 10 minutes before you can continue with gameplay. That part slows it down for me and I find myself losing interest in what they’re saying just to tap through it faster and move on. But so far I’m pleased with the pace of leveling up, though I’m only level 4 as of writing this. And not so much loot that you spend more time figuring out what piece is better and getting overly suped up and making fights too easy too early.

Easiest. Buy. Ever.. I've actually been eyeing the Steam version of this game for a while, but there are just so many amazing options there that I just passed on this. But on mobile? The situation is completely different. How often do you get a fully-fledged game with no ads or MTX nowadays? As soon as I got the email announcement, I knew it was an insta-buy for me. The only thing I wish there was is a quicksave feature.

Beautiful game with some caveats. This is a beautiful game, but I was disappointed to find out that controller support does not extend to my iPad’s keyboard. Also, ARM Macs can play iOS games, why not enable this? I know Square Enix opts out, but that doesn’t mean you have to.

Controls and saving. Game is amazing 10/10. But you need to be able to touch anywhere on the screen to move the characters. Left and right half of the screen don’t work on this type of game. Even if you make an option to swap it that won’t solve the problem. It’s an easy fix that the devs absolutely can do with little effort. This is the main issue but also you need to make the game auto save all the time. In a game like this you easily lose a half hour of playtime if you get interrupted because the game closes if minimized even briefly. Anyway this is one of my favorite games and the 3rd time I’ve bought it, so please please fix these extremely minor yet extremely major qol issues. Love you guys

TLC. Game keeps crashing after the The Elder Mist Trails going to the Evermist landing 😭 I was having fun I even deleted my save and played up to that part just in case something was up with my file. Even deleted and redownloaded the game….

Fantastic game but Crashes often. Love the game but I have had to stop playing it because my load is stuck on a mission that keeps crashing and don’t want to have to start over. On the Blue crystal mission in the lab my game can not progress without crashing

The full experience. Love to get something like this on mobile. It’s the full game with updated touch controls . It plays great. Retro style jrpg. Quick note to devs - the game is resetting itself back to the title screen if the app is minimized for more than a minute or two, and progress is lost. This is a buzzkill for the mobile experience. Please fix that if able…..

Good. The game is very good, gameplay is also good except there is a bug in the tree monster stage that freeze the screen which make me unable to progress…. Hope it is fixed soon

Great game! Unfortunate game glitch. Game is a great throwback to classics of old while also being something great on its own merits. Close to a masterpiece Down side is I can’t pass the Botanical Horror as my game glitches after it revives its thorns. Hoping it gets fixed so I can complete this amazing game

The game you’ve been waiting for. First off, I have played so many iPhone games it’s pretty crazy… as a busy dad who loves games I don’t really have time for gaming systems and have become an iPhone game enthusiast and this game has knocked it out of the park! I grew up obsessed with final fantasy and was pretty stoked that playdigious was putting this out there and wanted to give this a try and it has not disappointed! This mobile RPG feels like it was built from the ground up with the spirit of classic fantasy epics in mind, while embracing gameplay on an iPhone At its core, the game delivers a beautifully balanced turn-based combat system that never feels stale. Every decision matters, but what really sets it apart is the clever layer of bonus mechanics woven into each action. Timed inputs that can make or break a battle keep the fights interesting and you have to pay attention… SERIOUSLY LOVE IT! and the game has a great set up to scale your difficulty so you can play a truly challenging game or an easy walk though depending on what you’re looking for. About 2 hours in and already I’m hooked on the story and love the characters! The out of combat movements and environment are pretty standard with some basic puzzle type situations that are not to time consuming Honestly… well done, this is a standout example of how mobile RPGs should be done and well worth the money (Also found a little bug early on and developers already fixed it - way to be on it)

Incredible adventure, well made port. This is a must play for any RPG fans. It has a great story (especially if you’ve played The Messenger). The combat system is incredibly satisfying, be it through perfectly timed hits, or the strategic options that live mana opens up. As for the port itself, the touch controls feel very natural. You’re never required to hold more than one button at once (movement circle not counting as a button), so you don’t have to hold the phone awkwardly. There’s controller support too, so you can use the original controls. My only gripe is that I wish you could switch the confirm/cancel buttons on a controller layout. It’s not really an issue, since I can just change that in the phone settings, but it’d be nice I could do it in a way that didn’t also change the button labels.

Wonderful, except one bug. As someone who doesn't game very much, I'm enjoying this. Graphics are beautiful, storyline is enjoyable and challenging without being tedious or repetitive. Overall a very good game. My only complaint is I can only play in-game audio. Almost every other app/game I have used gives me the option to play external music/audio books while playing the game, as I don't always want to listen to the game music, but this overrides any audio besides the games, even if the in game volume is all the way down or the phones silent mode is on/off.

I need autosave!. Nice game, but I have a toddler. I can appreciate the value of having manual save points, especially in this kind of game, but it would be nice to have it included as an accessibility feature. As it is, I’ll have to wait a few years to play. I can’t keep going over the same ground like this.

Controller bug, but great game!. When tutorials display when a controller is connected (I am using the Backbone Pro), the buttons display an underscore _ instead of the controller button. Please fix so we know what to press.

A MUST have. Trust me and Purchase it. I’m not one to leave many reviews. I think last time I left a review was for Nexomon: Extinction. Just like that one, I have to leave a review because both share some characteristics you cannot help but love. You can tell when developers love their work. I was so impressed with characters who were not stale. They didn’t leave everything to gameplay to carry the game. They gave you art, a great world design that’s beautiful and my favorite was the plot with characters you Loved! Have way into the game, I found myself dreading the moment when I’d get to the end. Surprisingly it was longer than expected so I was able to relish the time until that last mission. Guys - trust me. You will love this game. There’s humor, a refreshing take to old fashion designs and I cannot wait for the studios next installment. I heard there’s a DLC? Please bring it to IOS.

Amazing RPG, one frustrating issue. This game is just incredible really! Very reminiscent of Chrono Trigger and a very engaging story. One issue I have run into that has caused me to lose progress and almost be softlocked is a graphical glitch that freezes the screen makes it impossible to navigate or battle. It seems to happen only when lots of rendering power is needed, but it completely ruins the game and halts progress until you’re lucky enough to somehow make it past the problem areas. Hopefully this can be fixed cause it truly is a great game.

Cool Port; Aspect Ratio Shortcoming. A great RPG and generally a well done port by Playdigious. One issue for me, though, and I bring it up here only because the game’s product page doesn’t: the aspect ratio presented here is a severely letterboxed version on iPad (and I assume iPhone too, although to a lesser degree). There’s been no attempt to provide an option to reframe or zoom visuals to fit the aspect ratio of your device. As long as you’re okay with less gameplay real estate, the game is still great. But hopefully 1) they address this; and 2) they clearly let buyers know what they are and are not getting.

Game crashes during certain part. Im updating my review to give a lower rating because now the game will always Crash where Garl is on Borrow time and you try to use Yeet to send you to X'tol. Everytime during the animation the App will force close. Literally making the game unbeatable. Terrible. This needs to be Patched Right Away.

Crashes at Everest’s Landing. Love the game so far. After the trial, thr game wont get past Everest’s landing without crashing. I have redownloaded the game twice and played with no other apps open on IOS. Very frustrated having paid for a game that I can only play the beginning of…

Support quality dev teams. Both Sea of Stars and its predecessor, The Messenger, should be in every Millennial’s library. The fact that they’re selling this absolute classic for $10 and you get the full experience… awesome. I’ve now bought this this my Switch, for my Steam library, for my AYN Thor, and now for my iPhone and iPad. Great replay value with various difficulty and gameplay configurations so it’s a game I’ll be replaying periodically.

So much lost progress. It’s a wonderful game that’s extremely well crafted. But that’s not the reason I’m writing this review. I’ve just completed what I need to do for the red crystal (it’s for the pirates quest) and whenever I leave the round thing colorful static comes up and the game freezes. And it’s honestly horrible. Because it happens every time and always after I finish the level. I have no idea why it’s happening, but it’s really killing the mood.

Game Frozen. I was about to finish it off at the ghost mansion and the game froze. So now I have to fight the monster again. :/ I looked up and it says not to use little fire/energy so I tried again but it still freezes. So now I can't play at all.

Must have game.. Never heard of Sea of Stars until it showed up on upcoming games section. I was hesitant to spend money on a pre-order. But once I opened it up and played for 5 min I knew it was 100% worth. Absolutely amazing game. Music makes this game. Characters are great. Combat is enjoyable and interactive. Only thing I could think of while playing this is “man I wish I could play this Co-op”. After some research I now know that was a DLC the original game had before being ported for Mobile. Let’s hope the Devs see our love for this game and bring the DLC to Mobile! I’m here for it! 10/10 game for me!

absolutely incredible. the artwork is quite literally the most beautiful i've ever played on the iphone. gameplay is fantastic. music is beautiful. what an amazing game. we need more developers like this. easily worth the purchase price if you're friending for a zelda meets final fantasy tactics style game

Make more games like this. Only 30 min in Nd love it. I grew up on games like Chrono Trigger and others of the great years of RPG. I saw this game when it first came out and just never got to it. But I am happy I get to now. Thanks

Best game, awful controls. I have this game on every possible devices. I was waiting for the iPad version and I preordered it. Controls are not working when you try climbing no response to be able to take necessary actions. It is a 5 stars game for me but I can not play it on iPad. Update: Xbox controller lets you to use all the actions. Ipad pencil pro or touch screen menus are not working.

Great port, please add 1-handed support. I adore this game & played it on steam. Quickly bought the port and am adoring it. Very elegant controls. My one request would be to allow either side of the screen to be touched in order to select/dragged to use the d-pad; regardless of what side of the screen you touch. I know many other mobile ports that allow for this. Or perhaps a way to switch sides in the menu? I recently suffered a hand injury and cannot play video games with a regular controller until I heal. I am so grateful I can play SoS on mobile now, as it is actually a platform I can play video games on while my arm is injured. But it would be so much easier for me if I didn’t have to reach across either side of the screen every time I wanted to move/talk/jump/attack. A small inconvenience that I can handle, but it would surely increase accessibility for me and for many others with more permanent limb differences. Thank you for another platform to play this incredible game on!!

Beautiful Game for the price. This game blends elements from old and new turned based RPG’s. The story is simple but sweet, nothing groundbreaking but the characters are enjoyable. The turn based combat mechanics and level design catch my eye as the highlight of this game. Great work guys!

Total crash. After winning the Mists battle and trying to proceed to the next section, it just crashes and I’m back on my desktop. Tried it twice from the beginning. Shame….was enjoying it, now I’ll just request a refund

So much fun. Loving any game that reminds me of playing on my old gameboy. Loved Sea of Stars, thought the characters and story were fun, challenging and a great. Highly recommend.

Borders. Great game, disappointed by the port. Was hoping to play on screen of larger and brighter iPad Pro , but the colored borders ruin the experience. Black borders at least, but i was hoping for a full screen experience with no borders.

The best game on mobile. 100 percented this game on Steam and now playing towards that on mobile. An awesome experience with plenty of story and colorful characters to keep you busy and enjoying the game. A great price for a terrific game!

Excellent!. What a great game. Played it all the way through on my phone and loved every second of it. I went deep, got the true ending and everything. Wish I could play it again for the first time!

Generational game. Everything about this is perfect. It translates perfectly to a game played on a phone. I only have one complaint/suggestion. Since it is being played on a phone, which means I play it on the go and in spurts, I would love an option that skips all of the intro title screens and immediately goes to continue my game. On top of that, an option to enable saves from anywhere. I can’t always play long enough to get to a save point and the game will close in the background, requiring a re-play of sections.

Easy 5 Stars. What??? A release on iOS!?! So far, an excellent port of the console version. Touch controls work great, as does playing with a physical controller. Thrilled to have this on mobile, I’d love to see more console ports like this. I can play a few minutes via touch controls or geek out longer with a controller - seamlessly. As a busy professional and dad, I’m thrilled.

Beautifully done but intros don’t stop. This is beautifully done and a lovely 90s throwback, but it needs less story leads each time and more action. Every time it loads there’s the intro and the story. I just want to play.

Absolutely satisfying.. I bought this game on a whim thinking that it would be fun to pass the time, but after 5 minutes of gameplay I was hooked (hook, line and sinker). It. Was. Awesome. I am an avid turn based RPG player and this one hit all the boxes, interactive dodging, stunning abilities, great story telling. Very pleased.

Perfection. Great world. Fun to explore. Turn based combat with timing based bonus attacks is awesome. Bonus points: cooking unique meals felt like it was straight out of the show “delicious in dungeon” and really hit the spot. 11/10

wheel. OH MY GOSH bro.. Wheel is so rigged but addicting man I keep losing but I manage to get 1 win and 1 tie OUT OF LIKE 50 matches (I spent more time playing that mini game then actually focusing on the story lol) anyways please nerf the wheel npcs :)

More than I expected. I bought this game on a train ride between Quebec City and Ottawa expecting this would just help me kill time. What ended up happening was over 40 hours of devotion to an awesome story, killer combat, and a flashback to a time when games actually had substance. Even the side quests ruled in this. I didn’t finish them all, but I still might go back and do them. This is not only the best mobile game I’ve ever played, but it’s one of the better games I’ve ever played.

So nostalgic!. Playing this amazing game feel like I’m back in time during my childhood, the art is wonderful and you know the devs have put love and effort into it. Combat is fun and well designed. Story so far is very good.

nice game. save friend and got the true ending! The 30-hour gameplay experience was an absolute blast! The only minor drawback is that after finishing the true ending, the game gets stuck on the final 'FIN' screen, and I didn't get the hammer. Hope this gets fixed soon!

Just buy it! (First time player). Gorgeous graphics, fun and easy to follow story. It’s my first time and I found myself just stopping to admire the scenery honestly. It’s flipping beautiful. It just feels cozy. Only an hour in, but I can guarantee that $9 is BEYOND well worth. ALSO, major thanks to the crazy cool coders working on this game- they fixed a soft lock bug EXTREMELY fast (<1day). This is a company that listens to their fans, fixes bugs, and doesn’t waste time. Love, love. Take my money. Take my damn heart atp. PS: I know there are mixed reviews for this game generally. People say the characters are 1D (no personality), the writing is bad, the story is generic or unfulfilling. My two cents? Well, Im not done, I just started, but I can see some of these critiques; HOWEVER, I dont agree. My opinion: why cant we just have a fun story with simple writing, big moments, and light hearted characters who dont talk about depression and death EVERY two seconds????? Exactly, JUST BUY IT!!!

Softlocked. Its good and im currently having fun but im softlocked trying to learn the live mana part. It stops after gar says “woah” and i cant seem to do anything to go past it.

Impossible Early Game Monsters. Lousy Game Play. Whoever developed it created an early came monster that just spawns and spawns. Unbalanced. Game over 30 times. I don’t have time for this. Too bad it’s a shame, could be a good game, except for 1 stupid developer.

Under accessibility in device settings, throttling frame rate to 60 fps allows me to get a few more minutes into the blue wing of the abandoned wizards lab but still having the issue.

That Old School Spark. Very wholesome and Awesome I strongly Recommend this game if you Like Chrono Trigger.
