Nice app. The interface is pleasant. Not quite as useful if you don’t use standard tuning. Hopefully more tuning options will be added in the future.

Nice app but doesn't have a left-handed option. This app is fantastic for right handed folks but doesn't have a left-handed toggle. Don't let this turn you away from the app if you're one of the majority but be warned if you're left-handed.

Best tool to memorize the fretboard. Using this app to memorize the fretboard turns the effort into a game - still challenging - but much more enjoyable.

Great app!. I love Justin's apps... they are from a guitarist's perspective! Better interface than most and does what it says on the tin. Allows for fretboard training several ways - naming notes or naming by fret and a few quiz modes. I really would like to see the ability to limit fret ranges and strings as well as a "smart" system where it revisits notes you got wrong more frequently which would make this 5 star. A note on the music staff option would really make it the best app out there. I long for the day Justin makes an app for guessing chords and scales!

Pretty decent but could be a better.. This is an OK first attempt. Adjusting the volume is a minor PITA. Should be adjustable from within the app. It would be awesome if the app could take audio input instead of just the little keyboard. I.e. Use a played note to verify.

Adjusting fret dot markers. Great app, really helpful and well designed. But I'm wondering if one of the updates could include adjusting and the fret markers. Im a classical guitar student and I think it would just be another added benefit to the app. (Preferably subtracting the dots one by one) Thanks!

Good but frustrating. Lots of little bugs with recognize touch presses. It makes me happy to be learning but the app gets in the way so much that I want to throw my phone sometimes. Still I don't know any better way to learn the fretboard.

It's ok.. It could use a lot of work. Sometimes I have to tap the notes several times before it will actually register. The way you want to practice should be customizable as well. I would like to be able to practice notes on each string individually and it would've been useful to have that option. It's still not the worst, but not worth paying for.

Where’s the leaderboard?. I like the app, but I wish that the statistics showed most notes found in 3 minutes and the same for the other stuff. Leaderboards used to do that but now they are gone.

So helpful!. I’ve played guitar casually for 20 years. Never learned more than a few landmark notes. After 2 hours with this app and I finally have a mental map of the whole fretboard. The simplicity and instant feedback is so helpful.

Useful; Doesn’t include different tunings.. I’ve played guitar for 4 years. I’m the lead guitarist for a metal band, and I’m having trouble writing new music because I don’t know theory. I figured I’d start at fretboard memorization. We mostly play in Drop C# and C# Standard, so I consequently need to learn the notes for both of those tunings. This app has helped me learn the notes for standard tuning, which is a great start. I feel that the app could be improved, however, by allowing you to customize your learning experience by selecting different tunings, or even simply by adjusting the open note of a string.

Great start - few bugs. When I saw a Justin Sandercoe App, I knew it was going to be good. In 10 minutes the Octaves Method stuck in my head better than in the previous 3 weeks. Perfect for where I am on Justin's intermediate method. There are a few bugs. Adjusting the volume is kludgy. Using the buttons on the iPad you could only adjust the volume when a note was playing, otherwise it was just adjusting the sound effects. Similar effect on the iPhone 5. When a note wasn't actively ringing out, the buttons defaulted to the ringer. A few times the sound cut off entirely on the iPhone. I haven't tried the Memory Quiz options yet, but it is already worth more than the purchase price.

Works great!. I had struggled with learning the notes on the fretboard......once I started “playing” with this app like a game app.....using it a lot; I realized I was able to find & recognize notes all over the fretboard. The key is to “play” all of the “games” switching between them......the more you do the better you get! Kind of like “practice makes perfect”.......👍🏻 It works fine on my iPad with iOS 12.1.4 update. Thanks for making this app.

Awesome. Yeah I've been waiting a while for this app to come out. I think it will really help me practice notes. Justin's video's are great too. Buy it!

Meh. Only way to use this app is if you already know most of the notes! They need to add a lesson section. Wasted money on this app.

Gets the job done.. Gets the job done, but doesn't justify $1.99 with such a limited function. The distributor also has not updated this app since 2013. The layout looks like it's made for iPhone 3. However it does get the job done and force you to memorize the notes on guitar from various perspectives. My biggest critic is, it doesn't track your performance. It tells you at the end at each run, but your scoreboard stays empty. Great concept of an app. Can be quite the niche, but can use a lot of improvements.

Needs some updates and room to grow. A mode I think that would be immensely useful is find all the Es, find all the As etc. as it stands now it feels a bit random and a little hard to make connections.

Great idea, no southpaw switch.... Wish I could find a way to see a lefty fret board.

Elegantly amazing!. I've only have had this on my phone a couple of minutes and can already tell it will serve as an amazing learning tool!!!

What about us lefties?. I can't benefit from this app (i.e. use it) until this is resolved, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed (on my left hand--I can still hold a pick that way) that I'll see an option for a left-handed fingerboard orientation on the next update. Once that is resolved, I'll add more stars, as I'm sure I'll love it. BTW, the sound works fine on my 2nd gen iPad using iOS 6.0.

The very best guitar training app. I’ve looked at a bunch of other apps for guitar training. This is the best! In terms of UI and UX, Justin Guitar outdoes everything else by far. Using this app has rapidly increased my note recognition on the guitar neck. Because it has several approaches to training it builds knowledge solidly. It’s easy and intuitive. Other apps leave me lost and unable to figure out what to do. Some have a crowded UI. Justin makes it obvious and fast to get busy learning.

Quickly learning. I'll have found the section find the note to be not only effective but fun to play.

Fun and Supports learning. This app is fun and challenging. We become better guitarists when we are familiar with all of the notes on the fretboard. Justin has done a great job with this app. I'm going to use it with my guitar students. Thanks Justin.

Good, Fun, needs help. PLEASE ADD A LEFTY MODE! This app will definitely help you learn and it is a clean simple interface. Most digital aides have a lefty mode and I have gotten used to it as a lefty. I will give it 5 stars once that is added.

Amazing app. I bought Justin’s guitar theory PDF to understand a few basic rules on how to find notes by simply memorizing 6 notes on strings 5 and 6. After an hour on the app, I could name every note on the fretboard. Now I’m starting to use the timer to get quicker at finding them. Worth every penny. Well done, Justin. This app Rocks!

Sound doesn't work. Would love to give this app 5 stars as I love most of Justin's products, but I can't seem to get the sound to work on this app which is very disappointing. Everything else about it is great.

Good Support from the developer!. Was having an issue on quiz 2 where only the 5th, 10th and 12th fret were only showing up. I had selected whole notes only in the settings and those three frets are the only ones that have whole notes across the entire fret for those positions. The developers made fast contact with me via email and explained what was going on after I sent an inquiry.

Great app. If you like Justin , you'll like his app.

Good but…. One main issue. The pitches played when you choose a note on the fretboard are not matched to the correct octave. If you get really good at the tests on this app, it will mess with you when you play the same notes on a real guitar.

Needs to be updated to run in IOS 11. Can’t run application in IOS 11

No playing guitar. I was expecting an app with microphone access to play guitar with and note train but it’s all in an app. This is boring and it doesn’t click with me.

It’s a nut problem.!. The only thing that works as advertised is name the note. The nut position on a fretboard is unavailable to touch, not responsive, in the other modes. You should call the software developer back in to fix this problem, probably a sizing problem. Tried it on Both iOS devices, iPad and phone. Until they fix this, I say, save you a bucks.

Don't buy this app. When you tap a note on the fretboard it either doesn't register or registers on an adjacent string or fret. Don't waste your money on this POS!

Can’t change tuning. Can only play in standard tuning. Unable to change guitar tuning, I play a whole step down.

Most affordable most useful app ever developed!!. Justin you are a hero for providing your service on donation bases, not many people on earth do that. Beside my review is not based on your generosity it's based on apps performance. ITS THE BEST APP I HAVE OWNED.

A Very Useful Tool to Learn the Fretboard. I like Justin's lessons and guitar tools. This is one of my favourites. It allows you to practice finding notes on the fretboard when I am away from the guitar. For this tool to be useful to you, you to should know the names of the notes on the 5th and 6th strings. Search for a quick lesson on that on YouTube, and then practice with this app. One thing that needs to be improved is that the notes all sound the same in two octaves. E.g. The thin E string has the same pitch as the E note on the 12 fret. Realistic notes would allow this tool to educate our ears. Finally, the app should also include the notes at the nut.

Fun and useful. I actually find this sort of therapeutic and fun to use. The fact it is teaching me something is a massive bonus.

Very Useful. I recently started learning the fretboard and have been working on increasing my speed with identifying and playing notes. Although I prefer practicing on the real thing, this app is great when away from the guitar and has helped me improve much faster. Highly recommend it to supplement your normal practice routine.

I’ve followed Justin on YouTube for quite a while and was very pleased to find this app. Justin is charming and has that wonderful accent which makes listening to his instruction an added bonus. Terrible!. I'm a begginer, which means I'm always looking for good ways to train my guitar skills. This however seems to serve more as a way to make sure you practice the knowledge you already have. There is no tutorial, so you don't know what you're doing half the time and the interface is terrible, which makes it even worse. There could be potential if as previously stated, there was a tutorial. Also if for example it could tell me where the notes were and then I had to place their locations by memory, not just expect that I find them on my own by chance with no knowledge being given whatsoever. As it stands It is a horrible app and I regret buying it.

Decent app but should have more functions. It would be amazing if I could limit to which frets I want to practice. Say if I want to memorize only frets 3, 5, 7 and 10 for example. The app is a great basis but it lacks some polish.

Essential. Fun to learn the fretboard and play at the same time. Very useful to practice some of the Music Theory lessons from Justin Guitars.
