Needs controller support. This game will be a perfect five stars if they had controller support. It’s still getting updated so why not add controller support?

Walkthrough nostalgia lane. After playing the original FFT over 20 years ago, it is so nice to go through the experience again on the iPad. There’s a level of depth in this game that was rare with console RPGs, while being an accessible game. Mature storylines, deep job structures, fun optimizations. I find it easy to pick up on this medium and find the port to have been adapted very well here. Thank you for helping relive these memories!

Currently broken for new iPad Pro. Been wanting to play this game and happy to see it go on sale. Instantly purchased it. Quickly disappointed to learn that the options screen is bugged and just shows a black screen. Unfortunately without this screen I can’t turn the sound on or get rid of the beginners hints that show every time a player gets a turn. Reinstalled and restarted multiple times but same bug every time. Sadly I will have to request a refund and hope they decide to fix the bug so I can buy it in the future.

My childhood!. This was one of my favorite games as a kid, but I never got to beat this or a few other games on PS1 because I lost my memory card and then basically gave up when the next gen of consoles came out. I recently bought this and FF9 and I’m so glad I did, they are even better as an adult and work great on the iPad.

Needs controller support. It is odd that square has been too lazy to provide us with controller support on this game for over half a decade. All the reviews mention how important it is, yet they don’t act. I love this game, but I can barely stand to play it on the iPad. It hurts your fingers and annoys the heck out of you to do it. This makes me genuinely not want to support the company in the future. I feel ripped off.

This classic deserves controller support. Ipad os supports controllers like DualShock 4. This game would be perfect if they updated to include…please

My favorite game of all time, but needs controller support. Still has the best music, best story, best leveling system of any Final Fantasy game. I love this game so much, and have played through it on every system that supports it. While the touch controls are pretty good, this game would be a perfect 10 if it had controller support. Please SQUARE ENIX... PLEASE. Update: it’s 2021 - how do we still not have something like controller support in this game, that was originally designed to be played WITH a controller?

The best version of a tactical classic. This is one of my absolute favorite games. The iPad version of Final Fantasy Tactics is a further enhanced version of an updated edition of the seminal strategy classic. It sports sharper redrawn graphics, a fully rotatable camera and fixes the atrocious frame rate issue from the PSP versionIf you're looking for a strategy title with an epic, rich story, deep gameplay, and a tightly written script, you can do no better than this.

Impossible?. The first level is impossible. 4 on 2 with no heals and they have a healer... you can only control 1 guy, and the other one is a moron... tried it 5 times and got game over each time... there’s no way. No matter what, you just get surrounded and beaten to death. Heard it was a fantastic game... too bad it’s unplayable.

This game is not touch screen friendly, buy the PSP version. I only gave this 3 stars because this is an awesome game.. on any other system besides IOS. This version deserves ZERO STARS. Whoever packaged this game to sell in its present state was out for a quick buck. While touching the screen does something; 9 times out of 10 it performs a different action than the one intended. This game is in no shape, way or form enjoyable on the iPad or iPhone unless you want to buy a controller. Although I haven't tested this out, so I wish you luck on that one. To get out of a menu you have to click it like 5-10 times. It's like a having a 3 year old child trying to grab your iPad and take it while trying to play this game. One mistake could mean you have to spend another 15-20min replaying a level again. Disappointing.

Needs Controller Support. This game is great, I’ve loved it for years, every since it first came out on the PlayStation. Like the title says, this game should have controller support. I don’t understand why it doesn’t, it doesn’t make any sense, since it’s roots are from the PlayStation which used a controller to play it. Come Square Enix, put it in all of your app games that were once PlayStation games, and those that are just app games as well. It shouldn’t be that hard for y’all to dedicate a team to perfecting and enhancing your app games.

Save File and Options Bug. Unable to load any save files. There is only the option to continue, with no iCloud backup. Selecting “Options” opens a black screen that forces you to close the app if you’d like to continue.

The game will crash.. You can’t progress due to a consistent crash at the Fineth River battle. My iPad is only a couple of years old and my iOS is up to date. I am running the most recent software version of the game. This product is defective. Refund the purchase, or fix the product. This is unacceptable.

Still great. I hadn't played this game for over a year due to the wonky controls and it not being stable on the newer iOSs. However with the update in September it's working great other than no more saving in battle. My complaint is in the way I power level my characters in the very beginning by bouncing them between the first two towns and fighting the first open stage over and over. I use JP boost on all four no names and Ramza, then leave one enemy alive and use Focus on each over and over and over again to gain JP. All of my no names shoot up 500 or more JP but Ramza stops after fifty or sixty into his assigned job. A glitch or intentional with the new update? Devs, please respond, thank you

Misleading App Store Product. There are two identical versions of this game on the App Store! The other “WotL” is identical to this, except built (poorly) for iPhone. Why on earth is it available separately? Who would they not just add support for iPhone to this version? This is misleading and deliberately confusing, and should be banned from the App Store, or at least refunded to those of us who were misled!

Finished game without a problem. This version worked perfectly on iPad. Played the whole game without any crashes. Auto save also worked well enough.

Could be better. Navigating menus with touch can be frustrating. Using continue from the main menu doesn’t load the latest save if you have multiple. I was expecting better.

iPad only???. iPad only???? I wasn't aware that my App Store purchase would be limited to my iPad. Absolute ripoff. I already bought this game on PlayStation a couple times, and my iPad.... There's no way I'm buying it a fourth time for my phone. Shame on you all.

Nearly perfect, Definitely worth it.. I’ve never been a fan of touch controls, but the devs have made this game very accessible. There are some parts where the controls will be clunky and may waste a turn for you, and the “continue: Okay/cancel “ was super confusing at first so I dropped a star. Otherwise the game is fantastic and worth buying.

Great game. Terrible controls.. Frustrating to play on the ipad. Please update the controls for ios or refund my money. Nearly unplayable.

Can’t use on multiple devices. I bought this on my iPad but I cannot download it on my phone after already purchasing it.

Balias Tor Chocobos crash every time. One level crashes every time there is a group of chocobos. It’s frustrating because I would really like to catch the red chocobo there. Other than that the game is pretty great. Hard, but also easy sometimes...it’s all over the map. A lot of freedom to choose how you play. The controls are frustrating in a few places.

Great but occasionally crashes. Ever since the new graphics update back in 2013, the game randomly crashes, sometimes even making me lose progress. Even when my iPad Air was brand new during that time, the issue persisted. The latest update significantly reduced the amount of crashing, but did not totally resolve the issue.

Favorite game all time PLEASE MAKE REMAKE. Quite possibly the greatest game ever created, music, storyline, gameplay. The strategy involved was unlike any other game, and has yet to be matched even by modern games. With its legendary cult classic status, wed all love to see a modernized version for console and PC.

Cannot download. Doesn't install from the App Store.

Missing so much. I can’t turn off the tips - the game shows an extra screen every click that says it can be turned off in the options. The option doesn’t exist…

Don’t buy until battle quick save is fixed. I just bought this app and was excited to revisit this game after 20 years by playing on my daily commute. Unfortunately I missed the update note about mid-battle quick save being eliminated. Without that feature the game is not mobile friendly. I’ll be seeking a refund.

Best game of all time!!!!!. This game is my life! Great story, great characters and very very very fun

This is the best ps1 game ever made.. Good port. Beat it twice already and haven’t run into a single problem.

Have to pay twice. I purchased this on an iPad.... unfortunately my iPad is older, but more frustrating than that, the touch interface is highly inefficient with a larger screen. I want to play this on the iPhone.... an app that I paid quite a bit of money for, but to do so would require another $13. Extremely unhappy. If 0 stars were an option....

Not a Great Port. Porting this to touch screen has made the game incredibly clumsy to play, and has even made some ‘tactics’ impossible. Also, it’ll just crash out of the blue, which is suuuuuper frustrating when you’re in the middle of a long battle, or have just finished customizing some of your characters. I love this game, and it brings back so many good memories, but this is driving me nuts, and I’m regretting paying for it.

ADD CONTROLLER SUPPORT, PLEASE. Perfect version of a perfect game, the clunky touch controls slow the battles and navigation a LOT though, controller support MUST be added.

Definitive version of a great game... with one major flaw.. FFT is one of my favorite games of all time and the translation, cutscenes, and other tweaks brought about in War of the Lions significantly improve the experience. Having played the game extensively on PSP, I appreciate the bug and slowdown fixes on iOS, as well as the ability to play a legal and official version of the game on a device with a larger screen and much-improved battery life. That being said, one major flaw really dampens the experience. The lack of controller support makes this game unnecessarily cumbersome. The extra taps to select and confirm selections in menus clearly designed with a traditional game controller in mind make this game feel a little bit slower, and a lot more clumsy. If controller support were added, or if the user interface were better optimized for touch screen controls, this would easily be the definitive version of the game. As it stands, the PSP version is is a more enjoyable way to experience this game, even given the slowdown and hardware limitations of that version.

Desperately needs update. It’s Final Fantasy Tactics. FFT is a great game, and the War of the Lions version from the PSP is the best way to experience it. Not being able to save mid battle and not being able to play with a controller are not great. If Square would patch those issues, this would be phenomenal. Otherwise, the game’s a lot more frustrating to play than it needs to be.

Thank you SE. Thanks Square Enix for updating to 64bit encoding. On top of that thank you for not making us pay for the upgrade. I'm happy that once updated to iOS 11 on September 19th, this game won't disappear into obscurity.

Fantastic game! Would love controller support!. I originally played this game in 1997 on the PS1 when it was first released. Even though I was only 9 and couldn’t enjoy the story, I was enthralled with the gameplay and job system. Fast forward to 2007 when War of the Lions was released on PSP. I would finally understand the story and the more complex gameplay mechanics. This quickly became one of my favorite games of all time and my favorite entry of the FF series. The tone of this game is dark and political with very cool ideas to add a level of depth that would keep me coming back for more every other year or so. To say this is the best story ever told to me is an understatement. I purchased the iPad version yesterday (3/6/20), which is the fourth or fifth time I have bought this game in the last 23 years. I was disappointed to find that the game hasn’t been updated to accept controller support. While the game is still enjoyable, the clunky touch controls are tedious to a gamer that is used to whipping in and out of menus, and rolling through the combat controls effortlessly. So, I’m asking you Square-Enix, please as a very long Final Fantasy fan, can we get an update for controller support? I’m sure by the time it happens I’ll be long done with the game, but one can always hope. Had it had this feature the game would have been a solid 5 stars.

I have faith. My patients and faith in SE has paid off and I can enjoy this wonderful game again! Thank you SquareEnix

My favorite Game. I have played many a game on multiple game systems since the early 90s, and I have spent more time with this game than any other. The story is intriguing and the gameplay is excellent. If you like strategy RPGs, you will love this game.

No controller functionality. Amazing classic, would rate 5/5 but it doesn’t work with a Bluetooth controller

Sound Not Working?. I purchased this for my iPad of which it says it is compatible for but the sound is not working for this games at all. Does anyone else have this problem? I am playing on 13’ iPad Pro. It’s making me rate this so I can send review/question. Outside of this I would give 4 stars but since it is asking for a rating, for now, I have to give what I gave as not having sound for a classic game like this would be unplayable.

Best final fantasy game!. This game is so amazing. I love every second of the story and classes and monsters. Just one thing could help this version be the best. Please please please add controller support. That would make me so happy!

Lazy Port. The core game might be a classic, but this is a lazy port with terrible controls. I regret spending money on it when other developers have put more energy into making modern tactical RPG's. It hasn't aged well and doesn't translate to a touch screen interface well at all.

Fix. Having problems with the touch... and it’s not my ipad

Needs controller support. Amazing game but I can’t play for very long on touch screen. With controller this would be amazing

Ipad only?. I gave this 3 stars because though I love this game, I am a bit disappointed I spent 15$ on this for my ipad, and unfortunately my ipad is now obselete and will not update to the newest OS. So I go to download this for my phone, and find out not only is this incompatible with my iphone, if I want to get it for my phone I have to spend 5 more dollars! Seriously??? I would appreciate an update to make this backwards compatible, I think it is crazy that I need to purchase this again after paying such a high price already.

Thanks for the update. Great update, I love this game so much! If you love final fantasy this is the game for you!

Versions. So this game is on App Store twice. One version got updated to work on any apple device running the correct iOS and the other, this one, got kind of screwed. I don’t know why they would release an all device version and a same priced but tablet locked version other than to rob people. I ended up having to buy that other version to play on iPhone but also installed it on iPad to side by side and the phone version got updated for the X and so subsequently looks much better on iPad as well, compared to the iPad specific version. KYS

Stole My Money. I bought this game on my iPad, turns out I bought the wrong one because the same game is available and capable of being installed on an iPhone, but this one isn’t. Total bait and switch. Why have the same game posted twice? Just for the money grab? I won’t be buying this again, or sadly any other square game on mobile until I’m made whole. Very disappointed in Square.

Great to relive a classic but some issues. The game is great so far. The only issue keeping me from giving 5 stars is there is a graphical glitch when purchasing items from the store where the screen in areas will flicker. This happens sometimes when using the “best fit” option. Additionally, we would love to have controller support for this game. Not being able to use it is a disappointment. Developers, if you are reading this, please fix the glitch and add controller support and I will change my rating to 5. Thanks.

Like others I also have the options screen bug. iOS 16.3 IPad Pro 3rd gen Get a black screen and after a while it says there is a problem with iCloud. Think this is due to app not being updated for 2 years and Apple changing iCloud settings. App needs to be updated or removed from sale from the App Store and a refund issued

Should get more attention. It's an awesome port, and more people should know about it. There's nothing I'd love more than to actually experience the multiplayer :D

Don't buy it. Don't buy any iOS game from square Enix as they may pull them off the shelf.

Great but needs improvement. The Good - Fantastic additions to original version - Cutscenes are gorgeous - Game/Story is amazing! The Bad - Crashes too frequently - Changing apps during game can often causes it to crash or distort menu color to unreadable, need to go to title screen and reload to fix - Any-Angle camera rotations are too slow and feel unintuitive - Annoying to switch between panning and rotation, should instead be 1 and/or 2 finger gestures instead of selections between either pan or rotate (I end up using 90d shifts because it's so slow and irritating) - Tap-Anywhere feature counter-intuitive as it only works to activate 'Ok', left side of screen should be 'Cancel' right side 'Ok', annoying to change my hand positions just to press a button in the middle of the screen just for 'Cancel' (this isn't everywhere as they have a banner at the bottom of the screen with the options next to each other) Probably one of my fav FF games, it is not ruined by these issues but it definitely causes frustration when it interrupts the gameplay. All my complaints are fixable with a version update but it's saddening that after the long delay between iPhone -> iPad still yields a lot of bugs. I recommend this game very highly but with warning of some very frustrating bugs.

Terrible UI. If you are like me and find games on touch devices with controller based UIs then stay away. It takes 2-3 taps ( sometimes with tiny hotspots ) to issue commands on the battle field, as much as I tried to play and love it I just couldn't bring myself to move past the terrible user interface design....

the game freezes on ipad mini sometime. have to wait for over 30 sec for it to come back

Poor port of a brilliant game. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions was a brilliant game with a complex plot, interesting mechanics and an AI that is not completely braindead(!). The iOS port is a little lacking, however. Touchscreen controls are frequently poor, making certain common selections quite finnicky. The game crashes or freezes fairly regularly, but not often enough to make it unplayable. The removal of the multiplayer elements and making the rewards available, in bulk, only after completing the game ruins some of the balance too. This was a good opportunity to address some of the key flaws in the PSP release too (eg the infamous Wiegraff fight), but SquareEnix have taken the lazy approach as usual.

Quality Gameplay. Old Graphics.. Excellent FF Tactics game only let down by a poor AI at times and poor resolution graphics in game. Cut scenes are beautiful and Espers are quick and pretty.

Terrible game on an iPad. Simply a classic game but crashes too often. Crashes every 2-3 BATTLES! That's too often! Sort it out squaresoft or don't release the title!

Nostalgia with a catch. Played a number of missions, and crash. Bam, lost all save data, back to level 1

I recommend to everyone. Fantastic game, lots of depth in unit types, ability combinations, enemy types and terrain types. As with all dated games, some combinations of abilities are far stronger than others. There has no in game difficulty setting and the game is almost impossible for new players at points.

Crashing like crazy. I'd love to say how much I love this game. And I do. But after trying to fight, and having it crash before entering, crash again after every single character, and then lose the autosave for that battle, I'm sorry to lose my $18 on this game. Apparently, crashing like this is common on the iphone version, and now it seems to be here for the ipad. Please, fix this.

Great to have a full release game on iPad. Having played this game on the original playstation goes to show how good this game is. The port is like for like from the psp version however like a few other people I am having frame rate issues during more elaborate attacks. Please fix with a patch. (on the new iPad)

Lackluster port. This is an amazing game, but not a particularly great app. For one thing, it crashes all the time on my iPad, though the autosave does mean you won't lose any progress most of the time. For another, autosave behaves really strangely outside of battle, and will sometimes lag behind your actual save. The touch screen controls are also kind of cumbersome, though you get used to it eventually. Would I recommend the game? Absolutely. Would I recommend the iOS app? Only as a means of getting into the awesome title that is FFT.

Very happy with this. Finally got round to playing this. I had no issues with crashes (ipad 2) and it seems to run faster on ipad compared to the psp version. it's a very good tactical rpg.

Addicting. Could not stop playing this game, great story line!

Not worth it.. I was terribly upset with this game. It is not worth the huge price...

Love this game. Nothing joyful than playing game that can bring sweet memories of the past xD game is perfect, only one thing that i am requesting which is to enable the saving mode feature while on battling. Lastly, If only Square cld work out somehow with Atlus to bring up BRIGADINE into Ipad platform, that ll be super duper cool xD thanks anyway Square.

Is that really HD??. Glad I bought it recently after the update supposed to have improved the graphics... Because even with that it does still look very pixelated.... Happy I never saw it before the update as I don't want to know how much worse it could have looked before

Final fantasy tactics. I bought this game like 3 days ago for full price which was $25 and now its on sale by 70%. Not happy

Must have!. One of the best apps you can get! Memories of this game will last for years.

Poor iPad 3 performance.. This game has frame-rate issues on the third-generation iPad, particularly during attack animations.

Classic Game. I would have given this 5 stars if only it didn't crash all the time on the new iPad. For a $20 title I expect it to at least be stable.

Fantastic game. Using data from other apps on the store I estimate that if the price of final fantasy tactics was reduced by 70% overall sales would increase by 2600% this is based upon data from appzapp.

Final Fantasy Tactics. Yes, it's a mediocre port that crashes often and the touchscreen controls are awkward compared to a PS1 controller, but the autosave is solid and I've not lost more than a turn in over 30 hours of gameplay. And unlike the PS1 version, it lets you save during battles, which is a big bonus. But I can forgive it these flaws because it's a truly engaging, complex and innovative turn-based tactical rpg with a great storyline and addictive gameplay. A stunning array of equipment, job classes and abilities as well as challenging battles keep me coming back over and over to manage my party and level-up my characters. There's always one more ability to learn to perfect a character for the battle at hand. The stylised graphics still hold up 16 years on from its original release. The 3D rotatable field and sprite characters have a timeless feel about them, I guess because even at the time the game deliberately eschewed smooth edges to foreground its bitmap aesthetic. Looking at it again in 2013, visually it manages to transcend retro and goes straight to classic. The sound has perhaps not aged so well, but it fits with lo-rez visual style. In all, a retina iPad is perhaps not the ideal device for this game, but it saves me digging through dusty boxes for my PS1 and those lame memory sticks you had to use to save games. Definitely worth the download if you like this kind of thing.

Great game to keep playing. I have just the completed the game again on my iPad !GREAT! A bit frustrating at times with gameplay but overall I am a fan and I love the new stuff. Cost was worth it for me.

Awesome!. I have the latest iPad and iOS and am experiencing no problems with the game. The price point put me off for ages but now ive bought it i can say it's an immense, finely crafted and addictive game that is totally worth the asking price. Highly recommended! I love that it has the original pixel-art character graphics, so much talent has gone into making the characters so expressive with the limited pixels that it would be a real tragedy to lose that to higher res graphics. If you do update the character graphics, please have an option to let us keep it in this original, authentic mode. Keep up the great retro game releases! They're perfect for ipad play.

Cheaply animated cutscenes replace the CGI from ps1. Instead of remastering in higher def, the brilliant CGI cutscenes from the PS1 version, square decided to put in cheaply animated scenes, this aspect let me down considerably, but the rest of the game is awesome as always, but $19? It's worth it to me but for a AppStore game that's considerably more than any of the newer more advanced games on offer

No thank you. No thank You!. I have tried playing this on my iPad Pro. The issue is not how well it runs. It is with how the game controls. That is. It functions 'fine'. But on a 12.9 inch screen, the controls make no sense. I have to move from my entire arm from one side, all the way to another. No thank you. Maybe try the 'phone' version. I don't know.

Great. Fft on iPad is great, fixes UI issues on iPhone and text is much much crisper, fixing the only main issues with that one. Still could use some UI work to speed up the slow game, but at this point you know what you are getting into with this game

Worth it. Best game on Ipad! True that it does crash, but it autosaves your progress so its not as big a deal as it could be, for me at least. recommend if you enjoy indepth tactics and building your characters up.

Only for iPad 😩. Get this on my iPad. got a better phone and was trying to get on my phone as well, but can't :( there is a version for both, I just wish I would have known before buying this one :(

FFS. Fix the save issues. Dear lord its nearly unplayable.

Mediocre. I have been waiting for this game to be released since last summer. The iPhone version did come out, but I was burned with FF3. Patiently waited another 7 months and here it is. Game crashes on my ipad2, graphics are unchanged from ps1 version. The controls are almost touch friendly, but still require the constant okay/cancel button. Still excited for the game, but for $18 I expect something new and something polished. Wait to buy this if you were like me.

Disappointment wrapped in nostalgia, in my eyes.. I've been playing RPGs for as long as I've even been playing games, and Final Fantasy Tactics was the game that started it all. It's the game I've played the most, my all time favourite. So how excited was I when I found out it was being rendered in HD on mobile! I wasn't going to pick it up before because I have the other versions, but I wanted SO bad to revel in the high sprites. And let me tell you, they blow my mind. Every class has new details from Akihiko's original art that weren't possible before with 32 bits. Even the "clunky" menu controls are not quite as clunky as people are complaining they are! The pieces are there for quite possibly the rendition of the game. So then, why am I giving it a single star? Because I know my FFT, and when I pop in or start up that game, the atmosphere is what draws me. You've climbed to have fixed the horrendous slowdown problem from War of the Lions, yet all you've done is overclock the frame speed to give the illusion that the animations are going at proper speed.the result though, is that the sounds are even faster nod thus don't match up, and to make matters worse; Increasing the clock speed means that every animation done is sped up, including those in cutscenes. This has drastically impacted the atmospheric nostalgia that makes me feel inclined to return to the game. I don't feel as 'at home' playing this version of the game. Their clunky, speedy movements pull me right out of the immersion that had me hold this game in such high esteem. I would rather have slowdown problems with attacks than have certain scenes look silly and rushed. I've only played a few battles and it's already bugging me. I can't imagine how certain scenes will look. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if people picking it up for the first time found the same flaws, rushed and clunky feeling(But not even necessarily menu clunky). Please, as someone who to this day still adamantly supports Square Enix in everything they do, bring this game back to the glory it once had. As I said the pieces are there for the perfection rendition, but they must be placed accordingly to achieve the big picture. In reading this, I'm hoping you find the sincerity I my words. I want this game to be perfect and succeed all over again in a new generation, with new minds to inspire. Either way you interpret this, thank you for taking the time to read it to the end. I'm hoping in a future update these clocking issues can be resolved. - Jesse

Virtually unplayable UI. I first played this game on the PlayStation in the summer of 1999. Grinding hours of extra missions in order to max out a character is standard in this type of game. This version however, will instantly reveal why the controller PS4 is required to play. There have been no innovations or improvements to the user interface and that renders this game virtually unplayable on a touch interface. Every action or movement requires so many taps and touches to make happen, each mission takes 5 to 10 times as long to play as it did on the original PS4 version. Although they say the graphics have been improved for this release, they remain pixelated on an iPad and the text is aliased and blocky. If you’re looking for a tactical RPG experience, I’d highly recommend looking elsewhere. As much as I truly loved and enjoyed the original, this version does not do it justice.

Bad update. Bought this game in 2015. The current new version has overwriten the original. Characters’ resolution improved, levels’ resolution decreased, animations’ got added between the fights. Overall the game looks ugly and it not same product as purchased years ago; the initial PSX port was much better quality than the current PSP port.

Awesome. Loved this from psx. Can't believe they got it on here now!!!

Huge disappointment. I love final fantasy tactics. But this? This is an abomination. The autosave ruin your game, making you reload the second before you die and restart the whole thing all over again. I’ve just wasted 20$ for frustration an disappointment.

Dreadful controls!!. I really should not have to tap 6 times to execute an attack. Not relaxing to play. The psp version is so much better! Extremely disappointed...especially after the game was supposed to come out a year ago!

No crashes. I've played for 10 hours and so far have gladly experienced no crashes and loss of progress. This game has multiple save files, iCloud saving and the option to resume in the middle of battles. There's no lag in spell casting but enemies seem to move really fast, like the frame rate has been bumped up. Not an issue for me as usually I think these games go too slowly. Glad I purchased.

Really clunky and painful to play. The game itself is a pretty good port but the usability of the whole app is really clunky. Too many confirmations required for actions and it’s difficult to click on some specific tiles. Got too frustrated after playing the first two levels and gave up, unfortunately I can’t refund it anymore. Wouldn’t recommend until some major improvements are made. Only bought it because it was half price ($7.99).

The game. Very disappointed as this appears to be a port of the original PlayStation version not the updated PSP version; having WotL in the title is misleading as the Dark Knight job is not in this game. Agree with other review that the graphics and controls are clumsy and bad, it appears to be a straight port with no improvement. The game also frequently crashes for no apparent reason. My suggestion is to get a PSP to play this on the go; at least until they fix all the issues.

Please add controller support!. I love this game and it would be so great to be able to sit back and play this with a controller. 10/10 port otherwise

Originally a great game. This port is a bit lazy.. Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1 used to be one of my favorite game back then. Now that SquareEnix has ported it, I couldn’t really resist buying at 9$ in June 2013. Now that I’ve played a few hours, I have a some gripes against this game. The GOOD - It runs on iPad1, albeit a little bit slowly. - The game is still fun as ever. - Added touch controls - Now compatible with iCloud The BAD - Multiplayer mode isn’t there in this version. It could be pretty awesome if it was! - The original game, even though really good had some game design flaws which hadn’t been corrected. For example, panning and rotating the camera to see a unit hidden behind an object or wall IS irrating. They could have fixed to by making those objects transparent somehow. That would have helped the game a lot. - The touch control are poorly implemented. For example, going back a menu could have been done touching an empty area on the screen instead of being limited to press a virtual button. Also, having two different buttons for panning and rotating isn’t really optimal. They could have easily intergrated both functions in different gestures instead of having to first press a button then touch the screen to execute function. All around, this makes for a lot of wasted time going through the user interface in order to get things done (a matter of seconds but multiply that by 100 hours of game time… I now doubt I will have the patience to play that long). The UGLY - It crashes about every 20 minutes on iPad1 and returns to home screen. - When using the AI function in battle, there is no apparent way to deactivate it afterwards. But there is. At some point, you have touch the "Menu » button to open a menu giving you option to Open Battle Menu. The trick is you CAN’T touch this menu item (buzzing sound tells you that). BUT, you can close this menu by touching Cancel, then press the Menu button again, then press the OK button. Or, you can touch a zone then slide your finger up until the cursor aligns with Open Battle Menu. Few second later, the game will stop the auto-battle and you’ll be able to touch a unit to deactivate AI. Let’s say it took me a while to figure that out. - This game ISN’T Universal, meaning you’ll have to buy it TWO TIMES if you want to continue your game on another iOS device. I would recommand buying the iPhone version over the iPad if you only want to buy one copy (you can still run iPhone version on iPad but not the other way around). - Considering this game has problems, asking for 16$ is a bit too much. So, that’s about it. I hope it will help you choose if you must buy this game or not.

Overpriced!. I'm a big Final Fantasy fan but this crappy port is not worth 17.99!

not good. very disappointment about this game. Itès not worth $18. and its NOT HD

Please add controller support. Please add controller support please

Ridiculous. The controls are so bad that I am having difficulties starting the game in the main menu lol... And why is it not full screen? Ratio looks the same to me. Also, why the F do you have the "cancel and ok" buttons at the bottom of the screen if you can just use your fingers to swipe. Why both? If touching the screen means ok, how can you press back? Controls and interface is crap.

Would be great, if it didn't crash so often. And when it does, its mostly when you're customizing your party from the menu, which accounts for more than half the total game time. Wouldn't be such a trouble if it just paused the game, but no, you have to restart from your last save point. That makes it unplayable.

Controls are really bad. Controls are *not* intuitives, and you’ll sometimes misclick or accidentally do the wrong action. The “Ok” button can become unresponsive or get stuck (which makes dialogues go super fast, and you’ll miss one of the strong points of the game : its story). Since touch controls can be imprecise, most actions require a confirmation to complete, but accidentally tapping the screen or having the “Ok” button becoming stuck will confirm your action and there is no “undo” if that wasn’t what you wanted. I heard loads of really good stuff about the game, but this version should either be corrected or removed.

Wonderful Port. Wonderful port of an amazing game, but please pleas please add controller support!

Good game but needs immediate updates.... For an 18$ game I would have expected more on initial launch after such a long wait. 1-please improve char graphics. When I zoom in on my ipad1 the images get pixelated. 2-the text is not clear. Same issue when first released with iPhone. 3-please improve battlefield tile selection, I had to zoom in many times in order to select the correct tile. Summary: If Square Enix hired 3rd party to port the game over to iPad, I can only say that the job was done poorly. At this point I would return back to my Nintendo DS. If you are buying this games based on nostalgia then it is worth it but if you are buying the game based on playability and graphics...I would hold out until the updates are released. I would suggest that you hire people who love this game with a passion as your testers no some blokes who thinks they know what the game should feel like.

Poor translation of a PS classic; stay away. FFT is one of my favorite games of all times, having completed it numerous times over the years (I still keep my old PS for this game!). I have to say that I was very excited to see how this translation panned out and sadly, I am exceedingly disappointed. The controls are clumsy and the graphics are MUCH worse than the original. It's as if a five year old built the sprites out of LEGO blocks. Fans of the original: stay away. It is not worth even half of the price, until they fix the controls and improve the graphics.

Seriously what's with all those crashes. I wanted to play the remastered ff tactics(unable to find the psp one on the actual PSP) but after the intro that is beautiful,it crash the second I start the first fight.I never had problems with the ff ports before(love them) so why is it crashing especially when I have the last ios update. Please fix it.Update because it seem it was not read,I recently got a message that it might slow down my iPad and did not get a recent update, why is it not updated yet.FFTactics is considered one of the best games of all time and you just let it rot, please update it before it's gone forever or atleast port it to PC....Classics should never die and get forgotten.Squaree do you still care about your fans,is there anything left of the company I used to love,I don't recognize you anymore, even your ports where quite bare bone and just gba roms and psp isos......seriously your games are classics and you treat them in such a degrading way.

Frustrating.... I love FFT but this iPad version crashes randomly during battles for me, I'm using an iPad 2 and it is really frustrating! >.< fix this problem please.

Error. Libgu decode 01

I don't often write reviews.. I don't often write reviews, but when I do, it's because there's something absolutely stand-out about a game. In this case, it's how poor of an iPad game it is. The original game is great, don't get me wrong, but this has got to be one of the worst *iPad* games out there, simply due to the atrociously bad controls and interface. Do yourself a favor, go buy it on PSP instead.

Bad control. The game and story are still amazing however the touch controls and many many menus make game play a real pain. I'm often miss clicking tiles and units due to the poor limited angles of each map. If your guy is in a crowd good luck selecting him...

Addicted all over again.. I downloaded the game 5 days ago and have a lot of trouble putting it down. While it does say it's the War of Lions edition, I've found it to be a faithful port of the PS classic I love. The game play is just as I remember without the load times. The music is crisp, and I'm right into the battles. I will echo that navigation and control can be difficult. Let's be real, this game is on a touch screen, as opposed to a controller with 10 buttons, 2 analog sticks and a D pad. What do we expect? You can play with the options to turn off certain messages and controls. Most times you don't need to click buttons, you can swipe your fingers upa nd down to move the cursor, and single tap anywhere to confirm. (Cancelling out is a set on screen button) The new 360* rotate during battles is pretty awesome when you're looking to rotate; so many of those stupid maps had an opstick in the way no matter what angle the camera was at. It's good to see I can rotate around those stupid trees and see the battlefield. The controls have a steep learning curve and are the biggest drawback, being able to play this classic on a large, portable screen is awesome.

No good on iPad. Have played this on PlayStation in the past and loved it. Sadly user interface on the iPad sucks. Positioning of characters requires the user to view how many spaces opposition can move however accessing this info on iPad takes too many clicks. Other issues as well but for me this was the worse one. Waste of money on the iPad. Regret the purchase.

Fan-Freaking-Tastic FFT!. Playing on an iPad Air so I can't speak for older hardware but this is a fantastic port! Bugs must have been bad early (judging by early reviews) but it's smooth now. I almost didn't buy this due to these bad reviews but I'm glad I did. It's kind of a niche game. The people who liked it, loved it so they put it on a pedestal expecting nothing short of perfection. Those of us who are realistic about these things will be satisfied. 5 stars

Horrible controls. I was really looking forward to playing one of my favourite RPGs on my iPad but what a disappointment. The controls are terrible. I shouldn't need to tap my screen (exactly) ten times to do a basic melee attack (and that's not counting movement). Square Enix has ported a classic game onto a modern device yet left the controls and menus stuck in the 90s: I shouldn't have to navigate through nested menus and bulky buttons. I would be okay with the poor graphics and barely-imporved cutscenes if the game was playable. As it stands, I unfortunately regret this purchase.

Very sad. Using an iPad air first gen on iOS 10.1.1 (latest as of this review). You start the app and immediately receive a warning that the game may run slow and that the dev should update it. Then, after first fight and the cinematic sequence, right before the second fight, the game crashed. Do yourselves a favor, dont touch this unless a more recent version appears on the store. Im going to ask for a refund. If anyone wonders, im 40, I manage software release for all sorts of platforms, Im a long time gamer, and the original was one of my all time favorites. The very minimum would have been a clear indication in the descriptive text of the app of iOS version issues. The current state this game is in is unacceptable. Square -1

Not recommended for anyone looking to pick up and have fun. It’s slow and tedious combat followed by a terrible tutorial. Avoid the headache.

Overall Poor. Final Fantasy Tactics is definitely among the top games of all time, but unfortunately this version is next to atrocious. The user interface is ugly, the pixels are deluded and stretched to forcefully fit it on screen, and this of course looks unpolished and unprofessional. The aspect ratio is still 4:3 but simply stretched to fit a widescreen ratio, similar to the PSP version which makes everything look squished. This is a shame because the new high res sprites are beautiful, but the stretched screen doesn't show how pretty they could have been. The frame rate appears to be unexceptionally low, and movement of the menus and characters are extremely choppy. I'm using the iPad with retina display so excuse me if it runs better on other devices. As far as controls go, these are sluggish and frustrating to navigate with. Tapping the screen almost a dozen times in multiple locations to perform simple actions is slow and tedious, also add in the extra tapping due to inaccurate tile selection. I expected much more functional navigation from a modern port, not just forced touch controls on the same menus as the console version. If some of these issues would be fixed, Final Fantasy Tactics for iOS would have potential to be the best version available, but for now it's definitely not worth the money you are paying for. Until this is further patched I would not advise you purchase this version of the game, as it is unpolished and choppy. Things as simple as bad functionality and ugly text should not be an issue from a company such as this. I look forward to patches that could possibly be in the near future.

One of my favourites of all time, but...... Please, for the love of God. Add controller support!!!

What.... Port is okay, controls could use a lot of rework but on another note.. I purchased the iPad version for full. Why do I need to make another separate purchase to get this on my iPhone!? Is is just ridiculous

Not bad, but should have been better. As I read other comments, I was expecting to be disappointed. But finally, it's not that bad. Did not experimented crashes on my iPad 1, speed is ok (actually, the sprites animations are a little faster than the PS1 version, strangely). The biggest let down is the user experience. It looks like an hack over the cursor/pad based interface with some small pinch (zoom) and rotate possibilities. They should had rethink the whole interface for a better touch-screen experience, by removing the menu cursor and having less taps to perform an action. I miss the functionnality to see the other users move range. That was a handly function. Maybe I did not notice how... And, to see at what time a spell or an ability could be performed before using it, you need to slide to the right over the ability. Unless you know that possibility in the classic version, it's almost impossible to know such function exists... Finally, one advice, once you mastered the controls, go to the menu in the battle screen and choose config, there is one option to disable battle prompts. This will save you up to three screen taps per round...

Not worth buying. Cant use your JP to purchase abilities. Very disappointed..

Can't change jobs. Can't change jobs or use job points. Is this a problem for other people??

A good step, but not enough. Yes the game slow down seems to be resolved now, but still the control remain the big problem with this game. Too much an hassle to navigate the menu the way it is right now. With IOS13 and iPadOS supporting controler, they should add this support for the game. Also regarding the HD rendering of the characters. I don't see any difference between now and before. What's am I missing here.

Terrible. Control is just irritating, save file randomly vanishes wasting hours of game play, sound quality is bad far worse than ps1 version and its sync is off. Overall its not worth it... Especially for its price very disappointed.

Final Fantasy Tactics in a different light. This is so far pretty amazing. I find the touch screen irritating at times but upon further reflections feel like this is a problem that'll just requiring adapting. Doesn't seem too hard on the battery and the cutscenes look gorgeous. Should be a little cheaper to spark interest but worth it

NO SOUND!!!. No SOUND!!!!!!!

Saving. Apparently you can't save when you want or load to a specific save point. When I die The only place I can get loaded to is the point RIGHT before my opponent kills me... I shouldn't have to start a new game everytime I die.

Better than PSP ver. Really good

Very, very disappointed.... If you are reading this review, you are most likely as big a fan of all things FF, and most importantly in this case, FF Tactics. I purchased this game after reading all the reviews, good and bad, and I disregarded the bad reviews based on my experience with the original PlayStation version, this was a terrible choice... I was just too excited to relive the awesomeness of this game. I would be holding my tongue by saying graphically, this game leaves a lot to be desired, and so do the controls. If square can pump out crisp, clean, FREE HD igames, why can't this classic be touched up? I'm fairly certain that all of the loyal (obviously to a fault) FF customers wouldn't mind opening up their App Store, to find an update to their nearly twenty dollar FF Tactics app that never gets played because it's disappointing compared to, well, anything.... Well, you've won Square Enix, you've successfully stollen nearly twenty dollars of hard earned money from countless, good people who love your products, you've stollen this money with the title of a game, and in my mind a promise of quality (which is obviously NOT included in the price) I'm not using my star rating as a threat like others do, because I'm sure the developers (or whomever) don't get all tingly inside when they see a 5star rating, just as much as they don't cry themselves to sleep over a 1star rating.... But you should. You should read the critical reviews of your loyal fans, and take it to heart. As much as we love the new and exciting projects you work on, we are nostalgic... You have taken a game that was the corner stone of all "tactics" games, the one that everyone tried to emulate and couldn't, and you've tossed it aside to collect dust with this terrible port to the most accessible handheld device there is today. To the fans of the series, and of this game, I implore you not to waste your money. With the current version of this game, that's what will happen to your money.... It's wasted, not spent. So for everyone responsible for Final Fantasy and FF Tactics, 5stars all around, hands down... For everyone responsible for this version of a classic, shame on you, you know what you've done.

Five star game, but crash prone. This is one of my all time favourite games, and would be an easy five star rating if it didn't crash frequently.

Nostalgic gameplay. Other than the controls taking a bit getting use too. This game is as I remember! Just remember to save ! Works beautiful, played for three hours, no crashes or bugs. I can't believe all the negative reviews, bunch of whiners. Only thing I can complain about is the price, but who cares , I'm glad I bought this one. I hope the cloud secret character is still available"!

This is bad!. This is the worst unwieldy game I've ever played on the iPad. It needs a serious overhaul to keep it interesting. Made an 18.99 mistake. Don't do the same.

Great extention, but.... I am happy that they continue to support great games like fft. I played the ps1 version when it first came out, I was about 8, and even back then I just couldn't stay off this game, with that being said... My only complaints are the spells, which for some reason were really slow in the psp version, and for some weirder reason go insaaaaaaanely fast (The animations, not even the sound can keep up ffs.) put the animations like they were in ps1 please. My second complaint is the walking in place in this version, every character looks like they are affected by haste, which is obviously not the case. Get them walking normal like in ps1 again so people like me do not get confused by this, it looks funny the way it is anyway. Overall very good extention, if they fix these issues they will have a very satisfied customer.

Classic. For those of you who have played this game on a different platform, It is basically a port of the PSP version of the game that runs fairly smooth of the iPad 3rd gen. It has some of the same lag spike issues from the PSP, but feels like it runs a little better. For those of you who haven't played this game before, buy it now. It is one of the best RPGs ever made. The class system is amazing with the amount of customization available. The ability to mix and match skills from the classes feels great when you find a good combo. A heavy armor monk or a duel wielding knight sword user or a physical soldier with mana regen and mana shield. It is great. Again, the only fault is lag spikes.

A fantastic port.. Having invested more than 200 hours with previous incarnations of this game, I purchased this one to find sharper graphics for the levels, an expanded and retranslated story line, and everything I loved about the original, fully playable on a 1st generation iPad. The game isn't without flaws though, some technical slowness aside ( not the games fault i assume it's because of my first gen iPad ) there are some nits to pick. 1- the camera being completely controllable is nice, but it's done with buttons for rotation, and panning . I would have loved to have gesture support. There are situations where the touch input can hinder unit selection because of where the camera is placed. 2- the save system is a tad confusing, in previous games, to continue a game. You'd load a previous save, in this one, when you tap continue, it's usually from some autosave, at some random interval, and you can lose some progress if you're not careful. It warns you, but it takes a couple of tries. 3- is super nit picky, but I wish the camera had more perspective, the levels lose a bit of depth with the shallow lens... Not show stoppers by any means, it's still a fantastic game, well worth the higher price, as you'll get your money out of it.

Sound not working?. How do you get the sound to work on iOS 14.5?

Great game, but crashes and not optimized for current iOS. FF Tactics is one of the all time greats, so when I saw this updated with graphics. However, the second the first mission. Begins, the app crashes. Drains battery like mad, and worse, before even starting the application I am warned by an iOS message that the app is not optimized for the current operating system. Seriously? Square-Enix you need to seriously learn how to properly handle your digital releases. This is like taking a long bathroom break right before the finish line of a long race then losing several places because of laziness. Still problems. And hopefully they will support and update this great classic of what Square-Enid USED to produce: great games. Also seems no option for the Japanese original text... what gives? Other applications even by Square-Enix offer this.

Fun game, with caveat. I originally played this for ps1. Purchased on my iPad only to find you need to purchase it again to play on iPhone.

Where is the Multiplayer fun!!?. Great game, since the ps1 version this game has been my favorite, bought it as soon as the ipad version came out. have the psp version also. already completed the game with all the secret items and spells. Why did you not include multiplayer on the ipad version. ALL GAMES now feature multiplayer, the psp has multiplayer, seems like a waste of money to buy the game which is more expensive than the psp version and not being able to play online which by the way is where you get most of the rare new stuff the game offers. Please bring back the multiplayer for the ios versions so i can rate this game 5 stars, otherwise its just a waste of money even if you are a big fan of the game.

Nostalgia overload. As good a game as it ever was. Mechanics work well and the touch interface is pretty good. Being able to freely rotate the map is a welcome addition after all these years. Overall very happy to have one of my favorite games of all time on my iPad. Of course, there is always a downside. The random crashes some people are reporting are an unfortunate reality. happened to me three times already. One other thing I was slightly disappointed with was the graphic "upgrade" that was supposed to be happening (which was supposedly the reason for the hold up). I was expecting slightly smoother visuals. It looks like the original graphics were just blown up to fit the iPad resolution.

quick save removed? seriously?. Updates should not remove useful features. :(

Constant crashes. I have owned this game for every platform on which it has been released. I must say that the iPad version is terrible! The game constantly crashes in the middle of battles on my 3rd generation iPad, often causing the iPad to reboot; and I usually return to a saved game after such a crash to find that all of my in-game items are no longer there. I doubt that I will ever purchase another Square-Enix product for the iPad. This game seriously needs a major update to fix these crashes and bugs. It is impossible to enjoy this game as-is, and nearly impossible to play with all the crashes and bugs. For now I will say "farewell final fantasy" (and all other products made by this company) until Square-Enix decides to do something about fixing this game. For the price tag that comes with this game one would think that the developers would try to fix a few things and keep the consumers happy. There are plenty of free games available for the iPad that are just as entertaining and have much smoother, crash-free gameplay. For now I will stick to those.

First-time player - Approved!. I played tactics advance on the GBA, never the ps1 version. I'm very impressed with this game! I avoided it at first because of the graphics issues, and the crash/sound bugs. After sinking in a good 15 hours so far, I've had ONE crash (and I didn't even lose progress because of the pause-save function), and a couple of odd pixel bugs that were solved by re-launching the app. For a PORT of a ps1 game to a touch device, that's impressive. All I can say is I wish the standard two-finger spin & perspective gestures were used instead having two separate viewing modes.

Steel Nimbus support. Please offer controller support.

Crashing. I love this game but it is crashing on my Ipad air 2, please help me.

So far so good. Despite the bickering I'm hearing about the controls, I find them rather easy to manage. The ability to tap anywhere in a character's menu and have it immediately send you to that menu option is easy and convenient. I don't mind the sound and eagerly wait the day when the sprites graphics will be updated. My only negatives for the game is 1) instead of having "faster loading times" the whole game seems to be sped up, giving you little time to enjoy the unique spells and skills each character uses. When I use any Thunder spells, sometimes I don't even see the bolt of lightening! If you could slow down the game during attack, somehow, I think players could enjoy the experience more. And 2) the PSP port had lots of multiplayer features that I highly doubt is in this version. If we gave this game Game Center features, players could still enjoy the Rendezvous and Melee playing features (you know, to get the best gear!) without these, the Onion Knight job is worthless too. This game is fantastic, hands down. But if I'm going to be paying practically full price for a digital copy, I had better be getting my money's worth.

Tutorial. Your UI for the game is trash get a real job you Bum

Great game, could be improved. I have always loved this game and with the recent updates and discount it is totally worth owning. The auto-save function works great for mobile devices. That being said it is still a port for mobile and not a native app and this is apparent in the user interface and niter action design. A lot of conventions that worked out really well on console get muddied up on mobile and like making a selection requires you to tap the selection then tap again to confirm then confirm the prompt asking you to confirm your selection. I don't think this requires a interface redisign, but this would amazing if the interface was optimized for mobile devices.

Squenix Greed Strikes Again. I played the older one on PS1 to it's completion (even the Deep Dungeon and Cloud side quests) because I could play it for, like, ever -unfortunately, this app is a battery draining monster, I mean, to the point if you play it unplugged, one quest will drain 10% - 20% of your battery easy, and maybe more for the longer fights at the end of the game (even with the brightness and volume down all the way), so my nostalgia wasn't exactly tickled when I played this version, because it didn't really have an opportunity to do so. That being said, I didn't have the time to experience all the bugs and problems that I've heard about before I deleted this overpriced rerun so, I can't really speak to any of that stuff -what it comes down to, is this game obviously doesn't belong on mobile devices if it's going to demolish my battery charge and cost so much, even if it's COMPLETELY bug and problem free. Since Square merged with Enix, they can't seem to stop shooting themselves in the foot -Squenix: FAIL!

If you know this game well.... After passing on the iPhone version and waiting 5 months in eager anticipation for the iPad one, I immediately dropped my cash to get what has been a favorite game of mine for years. I thought the touch UI would suit this game perfectly, and even avoided purchasing the much cheaper PSP version in favor of this one. However, after playing for a day, I've come to realize that the touch navigation is actually quite tedious. Even with all the automatic actions sped up, I find that the battles are clumsy, oftentimes frustrating to someone who knows this game well, and take much longer to execute than before. The biggest issue is that tapping anywhere on the screen works as "accept" while the only way to cancel an action is to tap a single button in the bottom right corner. It makes thinking and rethinking your strategy for each unit unintuitive and time consuming. Tapping anywhere outside of a popup menu should be "cancel" while tapping your choices directly should be "accept". Also, the massive blue bar across the bottom is an eyesore. It clutters up the screen and, considering the significant price increase, really should have ditched in favor of a better viewing area. I hope some of these issues can be addressed in future updates. Until then, I recommend opting for the 45% discount to play it on a PSP/Vita.

cant access options menu gives me black screen. cant turn on cloud saves and other options please fix ios 16 ipad 12.9 inch pro options menu

Definitive version; bugs mostly stomped. Early releases of this port were unplayably buggy, but at some point they managed to fix the bulk of them, and now it works great; I’ve played all the way through on an iPad 4 (iOS 8), and it only crashed like twice. Anyway, the game is still excellent, and this is probably the definitive version; no slowdown, superb translation. The interface is a bit quirky, it retains a lot of the balance problems of the original, and several of the sound effects are still not quite right, but that’s all minor; this is probably the best version of the game we’ll see, and it was a delight to play.

Great Update. Graphics are now comparable to the Playstation version, transitions are smooth, altogether a great ipad version of arguably the best Final Fantasy title. If you were ever a fan of FFT this is a no-brainer, the nostalgia alone is worth it. New players: There are a couple of secret characters (Cloud!) and weapons a quick google search will help you obtain. Would be 5 stars except that there has got to be a better way to navigate the menus. Part of what made the Playstation game manageable was being able to turn on menu memory and just hold the circle button down for characters that did not need a specific set of instructions for that round of play. On some commands you can just touch the screen to progress, but in other areas you're reaching all over the place to select actions. Movement can be somewhat annoying trying to select a specific square. Honestly I'm not sure how you could correct this without a controller.

Stretched screen. On the new iPad Air 3 the screen is stretched in heights so everything’s off....

Not worth buying twice. I bought the iPhone version a few weeks prior to this iPad version. I recently got a new iPad and upon seeing this game I couldn't wait to play. When I saw an actual iPad version was released shortly after, I was bummed out, but thought I could justify the second purchase to really experience this game. I must say I am very disappointed. From what I can tell the graphics and playability is no different from using the iPhone version at 2x size. The gameplay on an iPad is also not as easy or enjoyable as on another console. The freedom of touch is nice, but there are a lot of precise areas that are hard to tap, and there are multiple taps required to perform a simple a tion both in a menu and on the battlefield. Overall a great game, but not worth the price and platform.

Scam. I have both the iPhone and iPad version of this game running on my iPad 3 and let me tell you the iPhone version running in 2x zoom mode is identical to the "iPad" version. The graphics are identical. This game is not optimized for the iPad like Square Enix claims it is. I have no idea why this took 7 months to be released. The graphics on the "iPad" version are grainy and badly pixelated. The game looks much better on the iPhone 4 and original ps1. Not worth the money. If you do decide to buy...I'm telling you, buy the iPhone version since its cheaper and you can play it on both devices. And like I said before, if you run the iPhone version on the iPad in 2x zoom mode the graphics are 100% identical to the so called "iPad" version. What a scam!

Mfi support needed. Touch controls are difficult and uncomfortable. This game needs mfi to be truly playable.

Unplayable. Absolutely unplayable with these touch screen controls, even on current gen ipad.

Great game, lousy touch experience. I’m a Final Fantasy fan, and Tactics was one of my favorites when it first came out for the Playstation. The compelling storyline, great characters, and strategic combat is a winning combination. So, I was really excited to see it come to iOS. My first impression was also really positive. While I loved the original art, the new art is even better; it is simply stunning. However, all this marred by an awful touch interface. Selecting the right square to move to or target is really frustrating. The touch targets are too small, and terrain features and other characters are often in the way of where you need to touch. The screen rotates only in 90 degree intervals, which is annoying when you only want to rotate a couple degrees to get a better view of the squares you are targeting. Likewise, the zoom and vertical rotation are very limited, so often you are unable to find an angle that shows you what you need to see. The net result of this was slowing gameplay down, and really interfered with my enjoyment of the game. This was not so much a problem on the console version, as the cursor moved discretely from square to square. But when moving to touch, they should have changed the controls more to match the new medium. Allowing the screen to rotate freely and supporting smooth pinch to zoom would go a long way to make this game more playable.

Best FFT version. By far the best way to play FFT, it fixes the engrish script from the PSX version, and the frame rate slowdown of the PSP version by giving you a wonderful foe-elizabethian script and a faster than PSX frame rate. Touch controls are nice in this SRPG style combat as positioning the camera is a breeze, while selecting particular units or positions to move to is still bothersome.(A problem the game has always had) Additionally the party roster menu takes a little longer to navigate by touch control. However this can be fixed by using a simple Bluetooth game controller or an Ipad gaming case with buttons, but the game stands just fine on it's own. Overall this is the best version of FFT, with all the PSP enhancements, (Extra jobs, improved graphics, etc, plus the ability to pause mid-battle by alt-tabbing or locking your Idevice, and improved camera controls the PSX version really needed) but the classic menu system combined with the touch controls does slow down the flow of battle, so I suggest a simple Bluetooth controller or a Idevice game case with buttons, since this is a 40-80+ hour long classic SRPG. However they are in no way required, since the game stands just fine on its own

Best game ever. Easily my favorite game of all time. This is a great port.

Updated graphics are really nice. As an old fan of the original, I love what they did with the graphics. Still looks exactly as my old fond memories but it's actually a better, higher res version. In this version, you can zoom in and out to any degree you want and the sprites all look the same regardless of the zoom level. Controls are fine. Most of it is based around the idea of swiping in directions to simulate using the d-pad or you can just click on stuff directly instead. If you click on something not selectable (like outside a menu), it counts as pressing the confirm button. At the bottom of the screen, there are cancel and menu buttons. I am hard pressed to think of a better way for them to have done it (other than enabling us to use a real controller). When it comes to selecting tiles for movement or attacks, that is done by clicking on the tile, or you can click and hold, and move a cursor around. This part can be challenging sometimes. There is, however, a camera mode where you can rotate to any angle and also put it pretty far up vertically. With this, the really difficult squares become a lot easier to target. My first 5-10 hours on this game it crashed a dozen times on me and I wrote a review about it. Since then, I have gone about 15 hours of gameplay without a crash, so I think that may have been a fluke. Really, the only thing I can fault this game for is being on iPad instead of PS4 (please, SE, release this version with the sweet graphics on console).

I like it but 18 bucks?. This is a five star game at a 1 star price so I averaged the two. I played this game, I loved this game. I bought it for 18 but to be honest I find that price point a little ridiculous. It's a game they already made, they didn't need to tweak that much nor record any other voices, or even change any dialogue. Do I regret my purchase? No, not really. I just want there to be some understanding that there is a reason why people are more and more often going the "I get everything for free" route. I would love to buy final fantasy 3 and any of the other squeenix games that have come out, but at the prices they charge. Probably not. It took this exceptional game to make me buy it.

Finally!!!. I'm almost *angry* that this game finally came out, having spent something on the order of 5 months checking iTunes constantly for the stupid iPad version to come out already. Of course, I gave up on it ever being released a few weeks ago (hence my annoyance). Awwww! How can I stay mad at you, Final Fantasy Tactics? Long story short: Squeenix delivered exactly what they said they would (albeit months and months later than expected). The game plays smoothly enough and the touch-screen interface isn't kludgy at all (it does feel better on the iPad than it does on the iPhone). I am pretty-much satisfied (anxiously awaiting the "planned update" of higher res character graphics).

Apple TV and Mifi Support Please. I love this game but would like to have an Apple TV port and controller support like you all did with Chrono Trigger please!

Great game but a buggy app. The game is excellent. I had been waiting for some time to play the war of the lions remake, as I've been a huge fan of the pix version for years and was excited when it was ported to iOS since I have absolutely no intention of purchasing a psp. The port is really excellent, the retranslation top notch (if not occasionally a little stilted), and the gameplay is preserved. I would absolutely give five stars excepting for the mostly annoying but never game ending bugs. The game crashes fairly often, mostly when navigating menus but sometimes in battles. This would be the end of the line except that square has included a very handy "continue" function that will basically put you right back where the game crashed, right down to the very move in a battle. At most you'll lose around two minutes of play from a crash. It also occasionally has some other bugs, like the text will get funky and discolored. Usually quickly leaving the app, closing it, and reopening solves the problem. If and when these bugs are solved, I will absolutely change this to five stars. The game is excellent, the port has some problems.

Great but annoying. I got the sequel to this game as a birthday gift from a friend a few years ago, and it's still the only FF game I've played all the way through as well as the only one I've enjoyed for more than an hour or so. Coming into this game, I find it to be significantly more difficult due to a lot of battle mechanics being very different, but that doesn't mean I don't still like it more than the other "normal" FF games. Personally, I think this game would be far better if there was some sort of optional tutorial story rather than a menu so it would be more fun to learn how to do battle and such, and it would also be more enjoyable if the text wasn't so complicated in some parts, but I guess that can't really be helped. However, there is a problem that I think CAN be helped: crashing. This game crashes a lot more than anything else I have on my first gen iPad, and I have a lot of games, the best of which are shooters. Considering the fact that Galaxy on Fire 2 NEVER crashes, despite being far more advanced in everything except story length, I think this crashing problem can be fixed. Otherwise, I give this game a 4 out of 5 stars.

cutscenes neat, rest needs work. I waited with anticipation for the iPad release of this game and purchased it right away. The first thing I noticed was that there was no graphics enhancement for the game. It is much too grainy to be considered an iPad game. While the hand drawn feel to the cutscenes are cool, they really don't make up for the poor graphical experience during gameplay. I seriously feel like I've taken an iPhone game and expanded it onto my iPad screen (2x). In fact, I have done that with Sword Poker and found it pretty dang decent. It's a shame that this iPad 'native' app has worse resolution than an iPhone game in 2x mode. I feel highly disappointed by Square Enix. We waited all this time for the iPad version only to get the iPhone version with a blue bar on top and bottom. Those bars effectively reduce the resolution of your iPad so the game doesn't look even worse. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. You might as well just get the iPhone version and play it on your iPhone so you don't get the bad aliasing and poor resolution of the iPad version.

Trip down memory lane. It is a great treat to be able to play this classic again, pretty much wherever I want. It shines through to this day with very little in the way of upgrades. Save for some of the more memorable scenes now being animated, voice acted cut scenes, everything is the same, and it doesn't need to be anything else. It is still brutal in it's difficulty, and still demands a solid investment of time to progress. It's old school at its finest. If you can't get into "older" games, then save your money and your poor reviews. Now if only Square still made games as good as this...

Great Game, but needs MFI controller capabilities. As title states. I love the game, but it should be mfi compatible like the other square enix games.

Controller Support. 5 stars for controller support C'mon do it

Crash heaven. If you like long battles followed by crashes where you lose the 20 minutes you just spent playing every 2 encounters then look no further, this is the game for you! I was so excited to get this game despite the steep price. It was always a favorite of mine and in fact the game play is good. With the exception of the way the screen and camera are rendered (it can be difficult to select the tile you want to move or attack in) everything works, but I am serious here YOU WILL NOT GO 3 ENCOUNTERS WITHOUT CRASHING and you will have to replay whatever you just did. As you know some of these encounters can be very long so it's a big problem. I am on an IPAD 4 running os 6.1 so this is a problem on all systems. Additionally this app hasn't been updated in more than a year so don't expect a fix. Know what you are buying, I mistakenly though running the new software I wouldn't crash like the other reviewers not true. I would not buy this again knowing what I do now. Be aware and avoid this app. $18 for non stop problems.... You can find much better.

Lack of controller support. Pls consider add controller support.

Portable Tactics! Feels emulated.... To those who think the graphics are a port from the iPhone, you're only half right. They are a port, but from the PSX. The touch interface translation could have been worse, but could also be more refined. Some animated overlays grind the iPad 2's performance to a crawl, but they are typically short lived. The cutscenes from the original are pretty dated, so the updated version is a nice touch -- not as crusty as the original, but doesn't feel too much like a retrofit. All in all, it's FFT in portable form. If they continue to improve it, this app will eat up countless hours as you level that calculator and grind for epic loot in the deep dungeons.

Best game I own on Ipad. So this game definitely is my favorite game that I own. The graphics are good for the port, but the content and game is just amazing. There are so many job classes and it is just like the original for the most part. The only issue I have, which can't be changed, but is just my opinion, is that the game is too short and too easy. It does take time to beat. My gameplay had around fifty hours which isn't bad. But by the time I had finally gotten the correct jobs that I wanted like dark knight and a full arithmetic, I was already at the final boss and didn't really have time to train my dark knights skills. That may be because I didn't grind and maybe you're supposed to? Also, the final boss is a complete joke. He attacked once, and it only did around 150 damage to my weakest character. Then he was dead before his second attack. And that's without my characters being maxed and all that. Just typical characters with decent skills. It was a let down. I definitely thought there was more to the game. But still, it is DEFINITELY worth getting and replaying over and over with different jobs.

Simply Fantastic. This game is amazing. It was destined to be a classic since its original release in 1997. The War of the Lions remake further enhances the original experience with some beautiful, fully voice acted, cgi cutscenes that are shaded to give the impression of hand drawn images. What makes this game such a gem is its fantastic story. It is full of the kind political intrigue and drama that has made Game of Thrones such a hit. You follow fully fleshed out characters in a complex setting as the story touches on class structures, religion, and the shaping of history. As a medievalist I find that I can now better appreciate the research and effort that went into this game then I could 10 years ago (and I loved it from the get go).

Haters gotta hate. Let's get it out of the way. The game could use a high resolution upgrade on the graphics...especially the characters. But remember this is an old PS1 game. Take it for what it is. I'm playing on the new iPad (3?). I have had it only crash once that wasn't my fault. No biggie. You can crash it on purpose by pinging around the screen really fast. But during normal play, it's fine. The new movies are cool, and the touch screen game play is fantastic. As with the original, the story is deep and involved. Yeah, the price is a bit steep for such an old game, but its well worth it. Do your self a favor and pick this app up.

No Sound!! Need controller support!!!. No sound on iPad Pro.... also Now that iOS has controllers, this NEEDS CONTROLLER SUPPORT!

All the reviews are true. There are some serious bugs with this game. It crashes EVERY single battle I go into. But, nothing that ahead of time. I'm having a blast! The game is just like the original. It crashes, but it has quick save after every turn. So you just open the app back up and it's right where you left off. Not enjoyable, but to play the original FFT on my iPad, it's well worth having to open the app again on every battle. Long live Final Fantasy Tactics! Now just port over Final Fantasy 7 and I will sing your praise some more!

Game is great, but crashes and reboots abound. Anyone that has played this knows this game is wonderful. I'm not going to review the game itself but rather the iPad version (I will nit pick). The animations can be somewhat off compared to the PS1 version. They are either slow and choppy, or extremely fast! I can live with that I guess. The game does crash a good bit, but like others have said the auto save feature works fairly well and everything loads very fast. I will recommend to still save often and right after every battle because I have experienced 2 crashes that cause the iPad to reboot! When this happens the auto save feature is pointless as these saves are stored in RAM. So if you tend to have long battles like I do, and you don't save after said battle, like I did (only once and last time), then you get to do that battle all over again! I could look past all the annoyances other than the reboots. They need to make the game just a bit more stable. OTHER than all that nonsense, prepare to play a game on your iPad waaay more than any other game on the iPad.

Controller support. Awesome game but lacks controller support. Also SE has pulled some bs and released two versions- this one is locked to only working on iPads so make sure to get the other one.

Awesome. Losers and trolls shutup and go home. If you never played the original game on the Playstation then you don't know what you are talking about. I do ONLY RPGs and this is the best game ever. The graphics are unchanged which is PERFECT. I actually wish they had not added the FMV cut scenes that replaced the original. I truly looked forward to the original scene where Delita and Ramza played the reeds like flutes. SAVE OFTEN. There are 15 slots. Nothing worse than playing for hours and then losing a battle and doing everything over. I have yet to have a technical problem with this game on my IPad. Playing this game again makes me wish I could find an original CD and a console that can play it. I would buy it now just to play this game on my big screen. Wish i had not sold my original.
