Mountain Project App Description & Overview

What is mountain project app? Beyond the Guidebook: The Definitive Rock Climbing Resource.

• Find outdoor climbing areas near you, and navigate to them, using the map. This super-handy new feature is one of our personal faves.
• The much requested route finder: Easily sort routes by discipline, difficulty, star ranking and more. If a 4-star M9 is your thing, we'll help you find it.
• Search our entire database of 155,000+ climbing routes, even offline.
• Download route beta, photos, and topos state by state for offline use — because the best crags often have the worst reception.
• View a climbing area’s route stats (how many 5.11s are there?) and critical info (when is the raptor closure again?) in a single glance.
• Chat, ask questions, or put out a call for partners in our forum.
• Rate routes and photos, keep track of attempts & sends, or make a to-do list
• It's free to download and free of advertising too. Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Still buggy. Doesn’t always display downloaded pictures. Navigation skips a level when you go back. Needs a “conditions” area for ice. Using the map pushes you out of the area you were just looking in, again ‘back’ feature is broken. There should be a proximity feature so you can find routes within a defined area.

Quintessential App for Climbers. As the subject line says. Took a star off because the app version lacks some functionalities that the browser version has. Sun angles for crags are only visible on the browser, and when using the map on the app it does not automatically center on the crag you've opened the map for. Regardless, a must have for the modern climber, especially the forums for finding partners.

Fantastic, detailed, accurate! Love you!. I use this app almost daily. It’s essential. This app has literally saved my life. I’ve spent thousands of hours researching new routes, planning multi pitch adventures, exploring and fine-tuning my trips from others’ comments and advice. If you climb, you need this. Thank you!!!

While not perfect it’s better than anything out there. I absolutely love the ability to salivate over the pictures and the write ups people provide for routes. As the pandemic has put off the gyms it’s challenging to find accessible areas for people just getting in to outdoor climbing. There are incredible people that bolt and put a lot of work in on the routes and communicate here to better the information available. I’m especially thankful to the developers, the access fund, and all the trail blazers that formed the trails cleaned the routes and posted about it.

Revision of my survey. Hi- I recently submitted a survey and said mountain project should have a ‘clean’ version of their names. I take it back and think mountain project should refuse to post anything that is racist or hateful. I think my friends probably shielded me from the really offensive routes or names because I honestly didn’t know about some of the blatantly racist names out there. It’s insane. I knew some were perverted and juvenile but there are some really disgusting ones that need to be fixed. It’s gross.

Great App (Lacks Ability to Submit Photos). It’s a great app. Very informative. There is a lack of photos of the problems and I have yet to find a way to submit photos of projects I’ve done through the app. I don’t even know if you can submit photos through the website. If there is no ability to do this than mountain projects should introduce it. Let the community fill the app with beautiful pictures of the problems.

Great app but needs improvement. This app has been great! It has introduced me to some great climbing spots but one downfall that it has is it’s inability from the phone to add new climbs or areas to climb. I have found areas to climb that I would love to share but it seems to be impossible to share it on this app.

Love mt project. It’s usually pretty accurate, more accurate than the guide books. Love that we can rate a route and then the software decides on the average grade based on what we rate it. I really love the fact I can keep track of all the routes I have done. Another amazing feature if you don’t know is you can download areas or states so you can use it when there is no cell coverage very helpful! Would recommend :)

Great app just a few recommendations. Really enjoy the app. Just a few improvements that would make it even better. I would love for links that are sent to me to open up in the app rather than opening up the website. Additionally if the app could include elevation of crag and sun angles like the website does that would also be huge.

Fabulous. This app is really good. I particular like that you can download areas and then have access at the cliff even if you don’t have reception. The map feature is really helpful at finding routes and it’s great to get up to date comments.

The go-to rock climbing app. Amazing app for the entire rock climbing community. I only wish I could add photos, comments, and new climbs on the app instead of having to log on on the computer. Overall, 5+ stars. Can definitely be better than some guidebooks especially once accustomed to the app. Once you download an area (by state) you can use it without service which is extremely convenient. Climb on!

Great App. I love this app and always enjoy seeing what, where and how people are doing in the hills. I also very much appreciate the great information that is accurate and mostly up to date. Keep up the great work.

Really Awesome for free but some wishes.... I love that everything is centered in one place, but I wish there were maps that showed what route was what all in one big picture also, it would make it a lot easier. But overall it’s so convenient in the long run and worth the download

Best app. This is my personal favorite app. Im a big climber and it was really hard to find local outdoor rock climbs, and just knowing that i can just open up an app and it shows me everything i would need to know about a climb is amazing!! I would highly recommend this app for any type of rock climber wether your a beginner 5.5 or an expert 5.11a or up

Must have for climbers. Amazing app. I use it every time I climb. Has directions to the crag when I’m away from home and offline downloads with pictures are super helpful. I like being able to ‘tick’ routes and track my progress on my projects. While I support buying your area’s guidebook. This is a free option and is usually more up to date than whatever book has been published.

App is fine but website is better. Let me preface by saying that I love MP and I use it frequently. However, the website is a lot more helpful than the app in terms of finding information and tracking ticks. The app, from my interpretation, is meant to be used offline. That's great, especially when you're climbing in no service areas. However, because of its offline convenience, the app is terrible at updating when route names, grades, etc. are changed. In order to update an area, you have to delete the area and then re-download it (even though I have auto-update turned on). On top of that, despite re-downloading an area, the route names and areas still don't change - yet on the website, these changes are immediate. How, if the app and site are linked, do the changes only reflect on the website? Only other issue to point out is that if you use the app to tick routes instead of the website, sometimes the dates seem to shift by a day or so. Overall, great concept and cool app that isn't cluttered. I'm thankful we have an app that does the majority of what climbers need rather than no app at all.

Digital guidebook in your pocket.... ...or in my case, right in the stash pocket of my chalk bag. Soooooo much easier than photocopying guidebook pages, great information & input from other climbers, and recent updates have made a very nice user interface. Without doubt, one of the best (and most convenient) climbing resources out there. So, why not 5 stars? Well, I'm a tough critic and there are occasional small glitches, but the MP crew is really good about fresh updates with bug-fixes and improvements. Keep up the great work, MP!! At time of review: iPhone 6; iOS 10.3.3; MP app v4.0.6.

The Source. The Mountain Project is an outstanding resource to the climbing community. Research and discovery are great methods to make the most of your vacation or road trip. With the Mountain Project I can find what I need to plan the best adventures or find the best crags. The map feature and ability to share info within our broader community for others is key. The Mountain Project Provides it’s community the tools they need to put together comprehensive perspectives on the whole deal. From the approach, climbing and conditions, beta all the way to other local businesses to check out after climbing is done for the day. Thanks All, I really appreciate this sites and the community working hard to keep the dream a reality. -Jason

Great info and directory, but lots of bugs. I love mountain project and use it all the time for finding new spots and also figuring out where to go. But it’s app has a lot of bugs like not being able to click on routes or the map having issues with locating the areas even when they are downloaded. Still would recommend but I wish the bugs were fixed

Always great. MP has its place in climbing history as one of the best apps for the entire community. However, we all know the forums feature is a bit dated and could use a feature re-vamp. But my real beef is the search function. Nearly useless, in that if you don’t have the state downloaded, you cannot search for it, and the app won’t tell you anything regarding. “More search results in (X state). Download to see more.”

Unique. First glance info is very helpful. However for a beginner climber I wish there is more hand holding like the app for hiking “All Trail,” where gps and detail direction is available. But I am not sure the climbing culture would accept paying for additional hand holding informations. Some comments doesn’t seem to have context or help you put things in perspective. Seems like those making the comments are hard core climbers. Taking their advice can lead to over confidence, under estimation of the route or don’t bring enough protection. Bob Gain’s book seems to put things a little better for some one new to Joshua Tree. E.g. the approach is confusing, the climb rating is hard and the descend is insane if not outright dangerous.

So disappointing.. I've been using the old version of this app for years and loved it. I got a new phone and downloaded the new version and could not be more disappointed. It's obvious a lot of money has been injected into the app, but overall the usability has taken a nose dive. It simply has not taken in climbers into consideration on use patterns. It runs slower, navigation is awkward and weirdly goes all the way back to the state instead of area. I miss the simple and quick hierarchy without the glitchy interfaces to navigate to a wall. You can't download a single area and are forced to get a whole state which is ridiculous when visiting a single locale in, say, California. Automatic updates of downloaded areas when you open the app is unnecessary (that first ascent and comments in the last 3 weeks won't change my climbing plans) eats data and slows the downloading of areas I actually want to see. I literally can't help but curse every time I try and use this app. All the data has been there and was easily accessible and has just been ruined by trying to look good and bloated down with unnecessary features.

Could be better. It’s a great app, but it needs some adjustments. Like what everyone said about the pictures. Also, I can’t add routes!! I looked it up on their website and it says just click “add to page” but that’s not an option on the app. I live in Peru and a lot of routes haven’t been added and it seems like there’s no way to add them.

Great app BUT........ There needs to be a feature where we can see what’s been recently climbed for areas! Instead of searching around for things that match, we’d be able to see what’s popular for others as of recent and get a better idea of things to try or maybe stay away from or even get inspired. Plus being in Washington, knowing what routes are dry cause someone just reported on it is VERY important.

My props to the developers of these routes and this app. Mtn project opens a whole new world of opportunity to us climbers !! from showing you the nearest areas around you to climb and access to the beta you can glean from this app . The world just became your oyster. Now get outside and climb. And please love and respect our mother we are stewards off this planet and it belongs to every creature on it including us. ;-)

Would love this intuitive mechanic. Love this app, will never not use for climbing outdoors. Favorite part is maybe the maps feature which make finding approaches super easy. Adventure projects, inc, *please make it so that when I send a link to someone and they click on it, the link opens in the app not safari*.

Amazing idea, terrible user interface. Dear MP devs, This is an amazing idea. You have been and are changing the outdoor climbing game as climbing gets more popular. Thank you!!! Truly magnificent idea. Also your app has some cool features - the neighboring climbs swipe is neat. you’ve clearly got some talent and good ideas. However. Your navigation needs crucial usability work, especially as you grow every day. It is so non user friendly, confusing, and hectic to navigate. Needs greatly to be simplified, and obvious to the user. I have been using your app for about a year and still am confused. I just bought a $40 guidebook because I can’t imagine using your app again during an entire trip. Sincerely, UI developer who wants you to hire her and make things better

Excellent, app can be improved. Overall interface is fantastic. Minimal concerns. Do wish the weather forecast, sun direction, and other metrics from the online site would be integrated into the app since I use my phone extensively for both exploring nearby routes and navigating out in the bush, but rarely get on the computer. Also would be nice to have that info downloaded instead of trying to get service on safari way out there.

Works ok. The app works decent, the layout/design could use a lot of work. It’s impossible to find the user profile without clicking around a lot, the search function in forums will just disappear occasionally? Searching for routes and entering ticks is pretty straight forward but the forum accessibility shouldn’t be overlooked, it’s a great feature to be able to connect with people in the community. I just wish it worked consistently

Needs some fixes. Most comprehensive climbing app I’m aware of. Pretty much every climber uses it and saves carrying up a guidebook. Needs some fixes tho, comments always dory oldest first, and offers no way to change it. Went to a local crag and ended up taking a nasty trail that has been marked as “closed” in new comments, but 12 year old comments were what showed up first and took me the wrong way. Photos are also difficult to view, and I still can’t figure out the proper motion to open their descriptions (helpful for topo labeling). Just make it so you tap and they expand. Would love if they could help make identifying routes in areas easier, so everyone isn’t playing the “what are you on? Okay what’s next it? Is that on MP?” game trying to figure out what they’re climbing. Maybe add a feature where users can submit a specific photo for the belay spot?

Great resource but improvements are needed. I love this app to find crags and read about different routes, but, for the love of god, they need to add a feature to see the routes on a map. The app can guide you to the crag, the individual routes in each crag are not specified. I think it might be useful if they could add a feature where for each crag a mini map of the crag could be added to find the individual routes.

Recent Updates. They recently took away the feature to look at routes near me and have climbing areas pinned on the map. Now it just takes you to a map with no pins or areas. This was their best feature for orienting yourself around multiple crags and now it’s gone. I hope they fix this soon.

Guide Books are better. Please Plan ahead and Buy the paper Guide Book and read it over to cover. MP is an ok back up to the read paper guide books for any area. Support local Authors and climbers by buying the guide book either in a Climbing Store or online direct from publishers.

Thank you Mountain Project!!!. First off, thank you too all the developers and users alike. I still buy the guide books, but photos, detailed pitch breakdowns, and GPS tags make me wonder just how crazy the salty old dogs were. Constructive criticism: -I’d like to be able to give beta stars on the mobile app. It’s social media type nonsense, but I want people to know I appreciate them saying a bolt has been replaced, a flake pulled off, etc. -Push notifications when you’re at a route yet to be GPS tagged/verified? Not sure if that’s even possible. -Am I missing something or can I not comment on routes while on mobile? I put my personal notes in my tick, but I’d love to be able to share some info while on the road, not try to remember it for when I get home. If that’s already doable, make it easier to do. Thanks again to the devs.

Mostly great!. I say mostly because some of the beta isn’t very clear, or there’s a misplaced photo here and there. But I’ll say I’ve been able to figure out every route I’ve been on from the app, and navigate to whatever feature I was after. I wish there was a standardized location for number of bolts and anchor types though.

Great app. We use it often. One complaint. Ticks used to be stored locally in the old version. Now you need to have internet access to see tick info. I rarely can load this data while at the crag. People post useful info about bad bolts and other beta in the ticks section. Info that I can often now no longer access. Please allow us to store locally this information.

Used to be better. This app was amazing now it’s so frustrating from needing to download entire states then the area in order to just browse routes. It’s so frustrating. The user friendly app has become a storage hog and not as convenient as it used to be, which it basically replaced guide books not entirely but it got the job done. Now searching routes is a pain

Used to Work. Was able to download a few states and bookmark a few routes/problems about a month ago, and now the Search Area & Routes feature yields *no* results—no matter how obvious my search. The Near Me feature simply hovers over the western US whilst properly pinning my location. Once I zoom in, a few bundled results show up. As I zoom closer to those results they disappear completely. Location service is on, profile logged in, areas downloaded and up to date, etc. Funny thing is, the website/mobile webpage works just fine. Deleting the app and using the mobile site from now on.

Decent interface, area downloading and updating needs improvement. I have had trouble downloading updates for areas saved on my device. The area indicates an update available, downloads it but then still shows an update is available. A long standing problem is that entire states need to be downloaded which makes for a state like Utah or Cali a significant amount of data. More granular control over areas should be possible. It once was years ago.

Climbers best friend. I love this app! If I ever want to get stoked I just play around by filtering climbs by grade and area and find a new climb I never knew existed. The gps and photos makes this app easier to use than most guidebooks. Every climber should have mountain project.

Almost better than the website! Add more functionality. If the app had some more functionality that the website has, like adding the ability to comment on routes, it would be perfect! It would also be cool if you could add other users as friends to see their profiles more easily.

This place is great. I am still fairly new to climbing but castlewood is an amazing place for me to practice, I climbed my very first time here and wouldn’t want to do it any other way. Once tired exploring all the nice areas is just as fun as climbing them. I come here almost every weekend now and absolutely love this place!

Great but leaves much to desire. I love your service, and the mountain project website is phenomenal. However, the app leaves out a couple of great features that are on the website. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see any way to access my profile, add routes or photos, and explore community options such as gyms and partners from the app. It is helpful to have a pocket full of beta but that is pretty much all you get with the app.

App has been trash lately. This app has been garbage lately. I keep having issues with using the map and no climbs show up for some reason. Also looking to move to idaho soon so trying to scope out the area, but it doesn’t list climbs in idaho for some reason. I am able to find climbs on the website, but when I search the area on the app nothing is showing up. I wasn’t going to make this review but the app happened to ask for a review right while I was having these difficulties.

Easy-to-use, up-to-date. Nice simple app with more up-to-date information on climbs than any climbing books available. This is the resource you want. Helpful to be able to download areas for offline viewing up those service-less canyons.

“Syncing: Closing app stops progress” needs to stop. Love this app but one thing that is super annoying is the fact that the “Syncing: Closing app stops progress” notification at the bottom of the screen prevents comments from being visible, and it takes a while for the app to sync completely. Please remove this notification or move it some place where it won’t hinder the functionality of the app.

Love this app. This app provides endless joy to a highly amateur climber like me. Love it. Suggest it to everyone I know. Also, I have a suggestion. I totally love just looking at epic routes, so if you had like a “show me a random epic route from my downloads”button, that would make my year. Plz make that a thing

Great App!. For climbers, there is really nothing else unless you want to pay the money for a guide book everywhere you go. Mountain project really has an amazing amount of climbing to look into and find for what it is. The only reason I didn’t do a full 5 stars would be the apps user friendliness. It has been getting consistently better but in my opinion one of the biggest benefits of the app is photos and often my app glitches and won’t save the photos even after they are downloaded for offline viewing (most places I climb don’t have service). Other than that they have made some other big improvements like book marking and i hope more people continue to use it so it can be even more useful.

The more we know the better off we are. This app is great because you can use it without internet access. Makes it easy when visiting a new area. Allows you to make descriptions better by adding comments. Allows you to meet new climbers via partners forum. Let’s you add pictures to help show where a route goes. Let’s you record what routes you’ve done so that when your old like me, you can go back and say stuff like “Wow I climbed that route?” —Ross

New to climbing. This app is great! You can search types of climbs, such as TR, trad and sport and what they are graded as far as difficulty. This app also gives directions to these climbs so if you are new in the area, you can find them. People who comment or take pictures helps with safely making climbing decisions if you are a novice and their tips are educational. I love this app. I sometimes sit and browse and dream about future climbs. The only con is this app will keep you awake late at night because it’s full of wealthy content.

Stops decent software being used. - automatically downloads large amount of data on cell network. (Can be changed but that is the default) - photos are resampled to too low resolution - mapping is largely nonfunctional - improving areas is difficult. The program decided to automatically update the ten states I have downloaded. While on mobile data. Stopping this means I couldn’t access those areas. Users have uploaded great topos for some routes, but they’re completely illegible because mountain project has resampled them to appropriate resolution for sometime last century. At least recent work means the photos aren’t regularly completely lost (although like I mentioned entire states still are). I’ve yet to see a single route with coordinates. The application has mapping but not way to download offline maps nor export coordinates to any of the offline mapping apps I have. Not many mountains in this country have cell coverage... Perhaps more routes would have coordinates if it were possible to easily provide feedback or suggestions for areas. However you have to have a mountain project account, which of course can’t be created or logged into unless you remembered to do it before you left service. Go check out TheCrag.com to see what a decent climbing repository can look like: maps with well defined areas and approach trails marked. Interactive photos that highlight the route of choice. (Sadly it doesn’t have an app but does allow downloading PDF guides of areas).

death of climbing culture. So how good or bad this app is, is irrelevant to me. What I would like to know is how did they accumulate all the beta? Did Mountain Project personnel climb every route and collect all the info firsthand? Did they spend hours, nay days or weeks reading local journals? talk to climbers in every corner of the planet? Or did they troll existing guidebooks, web sites etc… and breach copyright in packaging all this information? It’s all well and good to have smart route beta but undercutting local guidebook writers and globalizing a grassroots sport is a path to knee-capping the storied history of our collective passion… just saying.

Good app to have. This is a great app to find routes and/or areas. Hope more folks add more info in the future to keep it going.

Good until last update. Lost ability to the near me function

How do I get to the base?. It tells me the routes but not how to get there..

Fantastic resource. Mountain project is my favourite mobile resource for climbing data for multiple reasons: 1. The user interface is beautiful and easy to navigate. 2. It is easy to share information with other climbers without the need for guide books or to supplement physical resources. 3. It is easy to keep track of the climbs you have completed and future projects still on the to do list. All this being said, please purchase guidebooks and support your local development community!

Extensive. Not quite the website, but very good. I have added my own stuff. There is no better guide for the iPhone. $4.99 to subscribe is a bit steep, because the website is free.

Near Me Function Gone. Cant use the map to see where climbs are near me, total bummer! In BC, Canada. Please fix this annoying bug!

Best climbing app. Can’t believe how great this app is. Still recommend buying guides of areas but great if you are travelling for a short time, and to use as backup to the guide when on the rock.

What happened to uploading pictures?. And how come I can’t comment anymore? I am indeed logged in.

Map points. At one point was able to show you blue points on the maps to orient yourself if you were in the right place. Blue points are non existent in Canada now and cannot find any climbs via the map and need to search the internet for climbs. Defeats the purpose of this application. Ease of use has gotten worse.

Great app. Would love to see psicobloc section and how to add information. But at the end it’s an amazing app

Very helpful app.. I wish it was used more in Canada because guide books will always be out of date by the time they go to print.

Great, but unfortunate glitch.... Great app but the current version keeps taking you to the details screen instead of the routes screen. Please fix!!!

Great app, needs more users to contribute. Excellent

Good. Not a ton of information on local routes for me, unfortunately - but generally speaking a good app. Would love to have GPS co-ordinates for routes and GPS directions within the app (Eg. head east 20 metres to reach climb). Ability to create and submit topos within the app would be sweet.

A must have if you climb. Great app to help you explore new areas, my friend and I are travelling from Vancouver to Mexico and this app is just our guide to exploring. 10 stars

'Ask for' or 'require' a donation?. Not a very welcoming initial splash screen. Deleted the app before I even tried it.

Awesome. Can't believe I just discovered this app now!. Just awesome.

Works Well. Would be improved if: -you could see ticks and comments on ticks from the app -you could download photos for smaller areas (like a single climb) -the map always worked -you could add comments to climbs from the app

Great content, glitchy app. There are features of this application that are currently not working as expected. This is the best app for climbing beta out there, so it is definitely the best app to use. This app could use some more developer love to enhance the user experience and some bug fixes.

Love Mtn Project, but the app is lacking.. Constantly have issues with this app. The search for areas or routes doesn’t work at all. No matter what I do I always get the “no results” dialog. The near me feature also doesn’t seem to work in the latest update. Nothing shows up on the map at all no matter where I am. Not sure if it’s just my phone or what, but I hope some of the bugs get fixed.

Get a guide book too.. Support your local climbing community and invest in a guide book. Not everything is on this app but it has most things. The photo feature is very helpful for locating route, great resource.

“Near Me” feature no longer works. Many areas no longer show up on the map when using the “Map” or “Near Me” feature in the app. Please add an “Open in Browser” feature to all areas and routes, since the app is severely lacking in features.

Was a great app. I'd much rather have the old app back. Pictures seem to be lacking now and navigation is awkward. Fix the pictures! Don’t blame this on a photo bug and having to redownload the app. I have done that already. Just fix it. I would really love it for pictures to actually show when I tell the app to download all the pictures for an area. For this. Until then I’ll use Rakkup for areas they offer.

Easy to use and it replaces a guidebook for much of your route information.. Don’t forget to update the routes for the states or areas of interest.

Horrible Design. I’m new to this app but not new to climbing. I struggled to find my notifications and not even sure if I have DMs? I also went to nearby to find crags and nothing showed up. I realized you had to download the maps on the other page. Extremely confusing layout, I feel like the programmers just threw something together and never even tested it with users. Please hire a UX designer

Used to be a great app, hasn’t worked for months. Unfortunately this app has do many issues that have not been fixed for a long time. It’s to the point where the app is completely useless for me, as I cannot access any text or pictures. Other people i know have the same issues, and nothing has been done to fix them for months now. I really loved this app and used it every day. What a shame!

Good idea. Its a great app at least for the west coast, plenty of locations and routes in the app, only reason why its not 5 stars is that there isn’t a lot of information on the routes and not a lot of support from the community, what this all needs is more users

Must have for climbers. Must have for climbers that like exploring areas not listed in the popular guide books. Also having the added GPS and “nearby” feature gives it a big advantage of navigating by guide book.

Needs more crowd-sourcing functionalities. Please add the ability to easily add photos to the route descriptions and the areas. Let the climbing community contribute with visual route descriptions. A simple button at the route level to add a photo or commentary would be ideal.

Dates don’t record correctly. Aside from wishing for proper topos, the app works great for research and identifying where you are. A few weird bugs/inconveniences: I’ve noticed when adding a tick that sometimes the date gets recorded incorrectly. Sometimes it changes by a day (so it shows as the day prior). It really hard to find approach trails for alpine climbs and I think the app would help a lot if it were easier to both add and find GPX trails. I wish the desktop version would allow you to bookmark areas the way you can on mobile.

Ok app, but needs expanded functionality. I try to track many of climbs through the Mtn Project app. It’s super useful but I just really really wish I could add pictures through the App!! It only lets you do it through the web version :’( Also in 2022: map no longer loads!!! Some one needs to fix this now!!!

Mountain Project!!!!. I absolutely love this app. It’s not perfect but it’s a great way to see what’s out there. I wish there was a social feature where you can make friends and chat about projects. Can’t wait to see some new features on here. Great job so far!!!

Map doesn’t show climbs. Normally love this app, I’ve used it all over the US to find climbing spots. Last month I noticed that when I zoom in on the map, the climbing spots disappear, so I can’t find any new spots. Was hoping the issue would resolve itself but checked again today (11/16) and it still has the same problem. The app is virtually useless to me now, I can’t find any new climbing spots. Please fix it, I wanna climb.

Map feature doesn’t show any climbs. The map search feature hasn’t worked for me for a few months now. I tried uninstalling and installing the app to see if that fixed the problem but it did not. Hoping this bug gets fixed because the map feature is the main way I search for climbs.

LOVE 🐛🪲🐝. this route is so amazing and so ethereal and beautiful and great holds on that beautiful sandstone!! great location, views all around!! thank you to the human bean who bolted this and to the human that put the hand rails on the trail!! we are so lucky to be able to climb this!!

Just wish I could comment.. That’s all, just wish I could comment in the app. The ticks are nice, just a lot of these comments are old, way old like come on guys. And because they’re so old it’s misleading. My only gripe.

App is frustrating vs website. The app version is frustrating when compared to the website. As a simple example, I found details about Red River Gorge KY on the website, no problem but the app returns Not Found. What? I tried this search on several areas with similar results. The app seems very unreliable to me and I have no way to express that to Mountain Project.

Photo download still doesn’t work. Great app overall, however, the ability to “download all photos” for a specific area hasn’t worked for a long time and still doesn’t. Fix that, it’s a four stay app; allow one to download maps offline and it’d be a five star app.

Best app. I have saved so much money on climbing books. This app has also saved me from getting lost soo many times. I use this app more then anything else on my phone.

Great for checking current conditions and seeing Route pics. Still good to purchase the guidebook for the area you are climbing in but this app is a solid supplement!

Great features, no cloud sync. App is amazing and has all the features and helpful info I could imagine. User contributions make this app very valuable. One star docked because the app doesn’t sync bookmarks, To-Dos and Ticks across devices, even when logged in.

Great app…location markers need to be updated. Whenever I look at locations around me or at a place I am looking at (aka: Utah) the geolocations disappear. So it’s hard to find stuff when I am traveling. Other than that great app for climbers.

Only game in town. Pretty buggy, route/area search never works, todo links dont work, doesn’t seem to symc with the website on any regular schedule but it does work well offline if you have the area downloaded and it doesn’t decide to sync without internet for some dumb reason

Being improved all the time. Still needs a more friendly UI, including easier ways to transfer coordinates and submit new ones. But it’s getting there!

Great!. It’s a really fantastic app with lots of good info although it’s definitely a little confusing to figure out for example i don’t know how to add routes or change my profile picture. But at the end of the day it’s a great app and super helpful.

No more search functionality. Why does the search function no longer work on mobile? It was the best part of the app, being able to hear about a route and search for it quickly on the app

App crashes opening certain area. Whenever I try to open Texas Canyon (CA), MP crashes! Hoping to download info for the weekend…anyone else have this problem and able to find a solution? So far, it’s just been that one area for me, and I’ve tried linking to it from different interfaces with no luck

The foundation of climbing beta. You guys should add new features to engage users more. It’s a shame there is no new development on this. There any so many mobile specific features that would make the app shine. Feel free to reach out for more suggestions, I’m an iOS engineer.

Love it could be better tho. All I want is to be able to upload routes and areas etc. from the actual app instead of the webpage.

Excellent content. Edit: Reinstall worked. Great app, don’t leave home without downloading your areas and sub-area pics. Wish I could comment via mobile.

Great until last update. Enjoyed using the app to find boulders/ track progress until the last update or two when nothing loads anymore. No pictures, no comments, no directions or even general information about the crag/area/boulder. I know it’s not just me either because my partner has this same issue

Kudos to REI for supporting the app. The developers definitely deserve all the boosts they can get for this app and site in general. Wish we could still have the choice to keep only part of a state's routes downloaded... Statewide is huge man!

Could be better. I love MP and it has plenty of wonderful features, however I REALLY wish you could upload photos from your phone. I want to contribute, but the extra time it take me to upload photos from my phone to my computer and then to MP is enough to never do it. I also wish you could see profiles and forums and comment on the app.

If you climb get this app.. I use it to track my trips and get lots of user curated information that I can’t get from a book.

Please Support. While not perfect, this is the most comprehensive climbing app - bar none. This is a great asset to the climbing community that has taken countless hours and effort. Please support those who have given their time, talent and financial backing to this great app! Thanks REI and others.

So helpful. Without this app, most all climbers would be lost. It is a little clanky but gets the job done. I wish we could upload photos of our own to the places we climb.

Used to love it….. I use this app almost daily, ad i am a dedicated climber in an area without a lot of good guidebooks. Ive never had any major complaint’s until about a week ago…. NOW i cant use it. nothing will load, no crags, no climbs, nothing. I’ve restarted my phone and deleted the app, nothing. EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND UNFORTUNATE as this is my go to guide resource while climbing and planning trips.

Needs improvements. I don’t understand why I am forced to use a web version for functionality like comments. I shouldn’t have to enter a web browser to make a comment when I have the app. Seems redundant as a user to need separate access points for separated actions.

Extremely great app. This was a huge success for us as a group when we went to New Jack City here in California. Everything matches up and it’s great to see what other say about the routes.

This app is going downhill and I'm not talking about the approach to a crag. I have been a user of Mtn Project for a long time as both a user and contributor. Not sure what changed recently but the app is digressing. The search and GPS/map functions have gotten worse. It's becoming more difficult than useful. Mtn Project team is you need a UX consultant give me a shout before your tool becomes obsolete.

Great app but would love to see improvement. This thing works great as a beginning climber. Would love to add to guides though. My local climbs had only 1 photo, I’d love to be able to help populate it with photos and updates changes to the approach

Download before you go out!. Can’t say how many times this app saved my bacon on a trip. Download all the areas and routes with pics that you think you’ll hit. Great beat and the updates on closures are helpful. A must have for climbers

Wonderful app, needs some tweaks. I love the app, helps immensely trying to find new crags. The only downside is that it seems to always be syncing on my phone, making it difficult to see pictures and descriptions. That being said, I have guide books. Yet I still use the app more often.

Excellent!. There is no better or more comprehensive guide to finding routes. Everything is downloadable, including community driven directions and ratings which is great. The app itself also has a great design and is very easy to use.

The bubbles disappeared. There used to be bubbles you could zoom in on to find climbs and now when you are super zoomed out you can see them but not at all once you zoom in

Add the ability to comment!. I would rate this 5 stars if you could comment within the app. It’s a really good app otherwise, but the inability to comment on routes and areas is really incredibly inconvenient and annoying.

Pictures functionally. It would be nice if while viewing pictures you could swipe down to get back to beta page, rather than having tap the “x”. Small suggestion but other than that I love the app!

Please wait! Mountain Project app comments loading...
