New update makes me miss the older version. This app is a great tool. But the new(er) version from the end of last year is just not as useful. I can no longer “trace” a trail to show me distance/elevation from trailheads to certain points (useful when riding only parts of trail), I can no longer click on trails to highlight them most of the time, and the trail list at the bottom scrolls out of control every time I zoom in or out on the map... as you know, there are many great things about it, but it seems to have lost a few of those things in version 4.0.

Downgrade with update. Please go back and fix all of the things that your new update has changed/deleted. As many other users have complained about, the pin option is now gone and it is impossible to track your ride while riding especially through the elevation section. The swiping at the bottom has become problematic and it is not easy to find your trail segments, and the overall aesthetic is too Busy with the windows of the trails at the bottom of the map. Please go back to the earlier version and rethink your design and usability strategies. For years, since the beginning of the app, this has been my favorite, go to for trail riding., I am disappointed to say the least at the recent changes.

Needs Updating. It’s a nice app, but in the area that I live, there are a ton of trails that aren’t even listed? And I don’t mean a little bit, but a lot! Just really out of date. The layout is nice, but if you want accurate trail data, you’re going to have to use the Trail Forks app. It’s definitely more current, complete, and it’s worth it to pay for the pro version. But I’m rooting for this app and hope they will just bring it up to date - and I will definitely update my review to reflect that.

Love the app, but GPS is only working when I have cell service, though. Been using this app for many years! Love it! Though, this weekend I was trying to locate where I was on the trail, and the GPS current location marker would not update to my current location of cell service was weak. Usually, it works pretty much all the time, even without cell coverage, since the GPS signal always works. It used to work in the area I was in. iPhone XR 13.4.1

Apple Watch compatibility. Any time I’m going out on a new trail I’ll use this app just to make sure I’m taking the right turns and keeping on track. I absolutely love the layout and the ease of use, I would just ask there to be maybe a simplified version for watchOS as checking my watch is less of a hassle then to have to stop and check my phone any time I need directions. It would be a great addition.

Great app but needs some tweaking.. I love this app in that it is mountain biking specific and trails are easy to locate. Recording and saving the recorded tracks is difficult. I have only used this twice and have haven’t been able to save either. Map My Ride is a much easier app to use when it comes to saving your recorded tracks. Additionally I would like to be able to share the rides I’ve don with specific people. This app holds a lot of promise and I look forward to its progression.

App is almost perfect. I came over here after trail forks added their stupid paid subscription model and this app is wonderful. I think the UI is a little unintuitive and clunky though accessing trail info, favoriting, and contributing photos. I would really love to see this app grow and become the Strava for MTB with a social feed and more robust tracking. The trail information is awesome and if it was easier to report trail conditions I would be doing it more often too. Keep up the great work dev team!

Use GPS MBP map as you ride to track location. I don’t bike unfamiliar areas without MTP. I mount my iPhone on the handlebars of my mountain bike when I’m on new trails. I go to the maps section of MBP and get a real time GPS tracking of where I am on the trail. This helps when when I come to forks. I zoom out and figure which way to go. Plus when your miles back in the mountains, you can figure out your way back. When I come upon unexpected side trails, I stop to figure out where they go and if it’s worth the adventure to explore. Love this feature.

Hidden Secrets. I’m really grateful for this app. I’ve discovered so many new trails. I’m always looking to peer deeper into nature and explore the unexplored. This app provides a foundation for this exploration. Just today I was high up in glimmering Aspens on a trail that I didn’t even know existed. Most of the locations are reviewed and location finding hasn’t been too far fetched yet. I look forward to more single track and creative inspiration ✨

Beautiful looking app, but a pain for submitting new trails. I was super stoked when I first heard about this mapping app for mountain bike trails, so I made an account and began submitting all my favorite trails in my local riding area. For some reason, when you go to submit a trail, MTB Project wants you to add a bunch of information about the trail, including a super detailed description. This is kinda ridiculous if your are submitting a trail that you don’t the full details, like if dogs are allowed or not. Also, when I went to submit some of my trails, MTB Project rejected them because they “weren’t legal”, or “not visible on an official map”, or “is on private property”. This is SOOO maddening after filling in a bunch of info (as well as plotting GPS points on a map) and have someone dump your work in the trash! I believe there should be more freedom in choosing your trails to ride instead of heavily depending on “official maps”. If you want a trail map site that lets you plot trails anywhere, regardless of what type of land it’s on, I HIGHLY recommend switching Trailforks!

Very helpful app. Very helpful, but I wish it were easier to add comments, pictures, etc. to trails. The descriptions are nice, and helpful, but comments from riders can add a lot of perspective and be more up-to-date on latest developments. Once or twice I’ve seen maps that aren’t accurate (trails have been added, for example), and can’t find a way to give that feedback. As far as apps go though, very convenient and helpful in finding trails.

Used to be great. Before the recent updates with the trail cards, the app was excellent. The new cards change if you move the map slightly. I find that a different trail will be listed on the cards than the trail I selected from the map. The elevation profile button is too small to be practical. I can’t actually select it with a glove on anymore. I would love to see a map layer for wilderness areas as well. Hopefully they update the cards to be more useful but for now, I feel like they are counter productive and make navigating the app difficult. I’ll use Trailforks in the meantime.

Very well documented. This app has saved my bacon a number of times. I have come to rely on this thing for all of my out of town rides.. the description is very detailed and and right on the money! The GPS sync is a life saver! Used it on a ride in Durango 3.7 miles away from civilization. Brought me right back home. Just finished a ride in Sun Valley ID and once again it served me well. Recommended the app to my brother in law who has just started getting into Mountain Biking. He just took it on a trip to. We Mexico and Colorado and also raves about the details. Thanks for such a great app!

Recording rides and adding trails needs work.. It lets you record a ride but it’s buggy. Sometimes it will stop recording and you have the start it a second time then it seems to work so long as you don’t switch apps. The sample rate need to be improved. Winding trails can’t be captured well and will show a shorter distance than reality. You can’t change the view on the map while it’s recording. If you’re recoding while riding an existing trail it doesn’t help with forks or directions and again you can zoom to check on the map your self. The app needs a way to take pictures while recording a ride and the ability to add a note and a way to submit that photo and note as a trail issue or a correction to a trail or route. Even if you can get a clean trail recorded even then there is no way to export the ride in the app or make it in to a trail or anything. If you try and add a trail it just dumps to a website that can’t pull any info from the app. Even if you try and use the website it doesn’t use the same map layers / sat view as the app so it will not line up right or may show in one and not the other. Disappointing. At this time It’s better to not use the recording feature at all. This app should be fixed so trail makers can upload an in progress trail system and update as it expands. This is a primary suggested use of the app based in the name in the first place after all and should be a focus for further development.

Not happy with Latest upgrade. The app performance changed with the last update like a month ago. Today for some reason all my areas were empty and I had to download the areas again. I only discovered this while on the trail trying to open a map. Not nice at all. Beside, with the last update it is slower and each time I go into the app (even if it was left open) the access is not like before, it is slower, it needs to load some data which makes the screen go black for a second... really a change and I don’t see why it does it now.

One of my “Go To” apps took a turn for the worse. I use these apps (Hiking and MTB) for both hiking and biking. They have helped me find great trails, kept me safe and on track. Sadly, we cannot turn off the scrolling trail boxes at the bottom of the page. When you are in a slow internet area, where most good trails exist, these tiles slow the app to a crawl. I desperately wish I could toggle the off!! Also, you can “heart” (Favorite) trails AND “Gems” (sights) but only the trails show up in your favorites area!! Let me reiterate that, you can fav the gems but not find them later. In closing, I’m a huge REI fan, and a co-op member, but this app needs some tweaking to be as useful as it was in an earlier version.

Works great on trail even w/o service.. Used the app on a long ride that I was doing for the first time that was out of cell service range. The app keep the map even without service. I had flagged the ride as "to do"; so maybe that helped keep the map stored. Since the ride was multiple hours, I didn't keep my phone out. But just consulted it half a dozen times to check my progress and verify that I had taken the correct turns/branches on the trail. Reentering the app, the app didn't automatically update my location. I had to reselect the map each time from my "to do" list. But once doing so my position updated immediately. Really invaluable tool. I also had the trail map but you often you have no idea when on the map you are. Gave great peace of mind to reduce energy needed for orienteering.

Holy smokes this is amazing!. Recently used MTBProject when heading up to ride some new trails in Indiana. Brown County has a ton of different trails to ride so it's pretty intimidating going there for the first time without anyone to guide you around. Using MTBProject I managed to navigate the trail system and do a super incredible loop put together using the maps and elevation plots on the app. Coolest feature I found was when riding up hill, you can pull up the elevation chart on the app and a little black dot pops up on the hill you're climbing and shows how much further up hill you have. The app also tracks exactly where you are on the trail so you know when to look out for connecting trails and such. Unbelievably helpful and was super impressed. Not sure how any mountain biker can get by without it.

Great maps and trails! GPS tracking needs work. Overall this app is well done. I am able to find trails and routes that I've never been on before. A big portion of the features are user driven. Everything from pictures, trail conditions, ratings, and descriptions are user driven. This app helps me navigate well and discover new routes. The more people who use this app the better it will become. Suggestion for improvement would be better ride tracking capabilities, and the ability to meet up with local riders and network.

Great for new rides!. Whenever I explore new trails I hit the thumbtack at the bottom of the screen to pin the trail. There are so many great features with this app, but maybe my favorite is how user friendly it is. I also like how it doesn’t drain my battery. As I ride, when I get to a new intersection, I open this app on my phone and my location is always on the map regardless of cellular reception. It even shows which way I’m facing!!!! If I’m looking at a multi-intersection, I point the phone toward each path, until the triangle is pointing toward the marked path... it’s super easy to NOT get lost with this app! 5 Stars!!!

Was great until they changed the update.... Update: the newest update has alleviated my issues below, I now use the app again for searching and planning (vs website before). Back to being a great app and easy to use for what you need. Thanks! Do your self a favor and use the website... it’s what the app use to be. It’s so hard now in the mobile app to select the trial / ride you want. Your scroll horizontally which means you only see 1 at a time, and it never selects the most popular/common ride now (it use to). How it automatically goes to the trail main screen when you select one vs “view on map” is not as good. Please bring back the old version, or at least bring back vertical scroll/select of the trails (when looking at a map, because realistically, I’ve never known anyone use the list/search view. I ride with 10+ people who use this)

Not a fan of the “new look”. They changed the interface in the map and now it is much more difficult to pinpoint a single trail in a network and read about it. You have to horizontal scroll (yuck) through a bunch of trails to find the one you want in your viewport. I am really not a fan of this design. I think they should revert it back. The app is much less useful now. The information is great, and the old interface worked well. I don’t know why they felt the need to mess it up. I hope they bring back the old interface because it is now almost impossible to disaggregate a network or trails and read about a particular one.

Pretty decent for a free app. It’s best feature is being free. It pretty good for searching the one’s local area for trails and as a reference tool. It’s probably pretty good for collecting metrics on the trails one normally rides. It fails on usability when using the recording function while riding. It is buggy and wont’t allow one to zoom in on the trail or stay zoomed. I’m sure it fine for trails one has ridden before but terrible if on a new trail trying to navigate braids or breaks on a trail. You get what you pay for…so overall it’s pretty good for a free app.

Trending in the wrong direction. Been using the app for years and it’s gone from a great tool to a not-so-useful and unreliable frustrating tool. The old UI was much more intuitive, simple, clean, and more than anything reliable. At this point with every update it’s a new set of issues. Either direction links don’t work, map manipulation doesn’t work, buttons to toggle screens don’t work, trail selection doesn’t work, search doesn’t work, etc. I understand the desire to feature bloat the app with all sorts of nifty things and having to rebuild the app in a way to allow that to happen is no easy feat...but it’s really feeling like there was a lack of QA testing or something. I mean some of the most common basic workflows such as “open app, search for trail, click on trail” do not work reliably. As the months have passed with this new version it’s becoming more and more of a thing where I end up force quitting and restarting over and over and trying to figure out how to get into the screen I want to see by some back door way and it’s super frustrating. Appreciate the work put in and for years of a super useful app/tool but it seems most of my fellow riders, even ones who never used the old version, feel this app is struggling. In an effort to add features 1% of users will even use at all the majority of the user base is frustrated and scratching their heads. The feedback is pretty clear. Hopefully the bugs can get hammered out so this thing can be enjoyed like it was previously.

I will only be using this to find the trails. This is only useful when researching areas to find trails. Unfortunately, the in-app functionality while riding is pretty useless. First, it’s impossible to zoom in on the map. This becomes a problem when coming to multiple intersections and you need to zoom in to see which turn to make. Nope. Won’t do it. Second, the elevation/distance reading is WAY off and changes after you save the activity. I’ll be using Strava to record all my activities again.

Excellent app!. This app is excellent. It is easy to use, includes a massive amount of trails, elevations, ratings, descriptions, photos...everything is easy to find and use! Nothing is overlooked. It opens up trails for all levels and makes riding and exploring so much more fun. No glitches or ads and no digging through distracting features. Just easy to select maps and easy to pin favorite trails.

Best app for mountain bikers!!. I drive cross country in a semi and try to find trails to bike along the way. Before finding this app I could never find trails to ride. Now it is like I know some that has the inside scoop on every trail in the US. They also ride every trail with me to keep me on the right trail. With the number of trails and how little some are marked without the gps and map I do not know if I would have gotten home a couple of times. Only thing that would be nice is bike routes in cities. I know that it is not a trail so am not going to knock them for that.

App broken v4.1.2 (Fixed!). The latest version appears to be broken. Maps get an error while trying to download, previous maps don’t appear to be working, no trails show up for my area. Deleted the data but it gives and error now when trying to redownload. 😢 Update, I deleted the app from my phone and redownloaded it. Now it works like it used to!

LOVE finding new MTB trails while traveling. This has been one of the best apps I’ve found for MTB trail locations that other apps trying to map “everything” seem to miss. My one complaint, and NOT with the app, is there should absolutely be 2 different ratings for any trails (MTB, hiking, etc) cause as a 40something YOF trying to get back to riding and in shape, that 20something year old’s rating is WAY too much for me 😀😅. So MTB, here is your chance to reach those of us working at getting back to 20something (ok...maybe 30something!) shape and start the next big trend! (But you can’t make the trail rating markers chubby women in spandex...cause I know someone there was thinking it 🤣) Oh and thanks for the great app too!

Great tool, mediocre UX/UI. Great information, great concept. I just wish the app was more functional/intuitive...needs some UX/UI help. Finding trails is pretty easy, the detail and information on them is clear and well structured. But within the map interface, knowing when you’re looking at a trail vs a trail system is confusing. Same with which views allow you to see the “trail list” button, which is key for seeing all trails within a particular map view. Sometimes that appears and sometimes it doesn’t. (I wish I could tell you when it does and doesn’t). Overall I like the app. I just find myself wondering FAR too often, “how do I find X” or “what view am I in? How do I get back to what I was looking at before?” With some UI love it would be 5 stars for sure.

New update is awful. I used to love the app and now I find myself using this app to find a good loop, but Trailforks while I’m riding. Please bring back the feature of the app showing where you are in your ride based on the blue circle in the elevation graph. It’s nice to know how much climbing is left, or if a steep downhill is coming. Also, I’ve had to click on a ride then view in map so many times (it wouldn’t let me just stay in that view). The horizontal scrolling while with gloves on instead of the easy-to-read list is so frustrating. It’s a clunky update and I hope you guys work on it.

Charting the unknown and the Familiar. We have used MTB while traveling to other states to check out their trails. It has been an invaluable aide trying to find them and follow the different routes. MTB shows you exactly where you are so you know which direction to turn. Many times it has saved us from getting lost!

👍🏾 amazing for my area 🚴. I find this app to be fantastic in almost every way. The bad ratings are mostly from lazy complainers as far as I can see. The only improvements I would .2 would be in the map key and map trail lines – they could be a little more visible, especially for use on a phone. Thanks for this useful app!

My go-to mountain bike app. MTB Project is an awesome resource for ride planning, whether in a new area or one I’m already familiar with. There are a couple quirks that I have learned to live with, but I would love to see improved. First, elevation change always seems to be at least 10% less than what my Garmin or Strava on my iPhone indicates. I’ve had rides with more than a 20% discrepancy between MTB Project, my Garmin, and Strava. Second, I wish I could leave a comment or add a trail photo without doing so through my computer. Often I would like to make a helpful comment after riding a trail, but it’s too much effort to go login through a computer later—so I just don’t bother. Ditto for uploading photos. I almost always take a few photos when I ride and upload to Strava, but it’s way too much effort to get those photos from my phone, to my computer, and into MTB Project. Sure, maybe I’m lazy. But that’s why I use MTB Project to make sure I hit the best downhills in the right direction!

Condition History!!!. I love this app but there is one great feature on the website they seem to always leave out. On a computer you can check the history of user updated conditions and in my state of Colorado, I feel it’s very useful. I can check back to see how soon the trails thawed out enough to ride in past years! Obviously it’s not always the same but some years have similar amounts of snow to others and it helps me gauge when I may be able to hit the high alpine trails!

App Hamstrung. Most of what makes apps like this useful is community knowledge and this app lack basic community feedback features, even though the website has the functionality. I think fixing this would increase user engagement and make the platform better for everyone. I find MTB project has the best interface for seeing trail rating, elevation profile with steepness, and route map - better than TrailForks, OnX, or AllTrails. I do find the website has more of the features I want - comments and check-ins are easy to view and there is a “suggest and edit” button on each field. I highly recommend developers make more check-ins and comments available on the app. There are very popular trails that haven’t been updated in years and I think part of the issue is lack of ease of use to put updates in via the app. This is a 3 star app to me - 4 if you use the website or the website functionality made it into the app, then 5 stars if more people put check ins/comments and/or the developer took a page from TrailForks and made more filters possible - like popularity, dog friendly, winter, etc. I still use other apps for planning or searching but 99% of the time this is my go-to app for use while hiking/riding because the elevation profile, current progress, and map are all so clear and can be pinned so you don’t lose it.

MTB project. This app is accurate and incredibly helpful. I have used it to find trails in 3 different states. The only issue I have is the individual reviews of the trails. I am a beginner mountain biker so it’s hard for me to gage difficulty and I have found that the individual reviews have down played the difficulty of the trails. I thought it was that I was just a beginner until I have had others on trails comment that there are some pretty difficult areas. I would encourage individuals to provide a little more detail when reviewing a trail.

Great MTB companion. Great app with great info on MTB trails. Also you can help out by recording your rides and sharing out the trails for everyone to see. Give back and record trails you ride so newbies (& experts) can see what to ride. Used this on vacation in the Adirondacks and it took me to some awesome trails. Thanks to the sharers! Love the MTB community Please add Apple Watch support so I can start and stop recording, add workouts and see the map on my watch so I can leave my phone @ home

Best MTB app. I love this app! It’s easy to use. The stats are always accurate. Driving directions are accurate. And love how I can rate and leave comments. And I also read others comments too! My favorite feature is the top rides in your area. Gives great ideas for rides. I even found some rides in my area I didn’t know about. Love it! One thing I’d like to change is the check in feature. Most of the time right after a ride or the day of ride I don’t leave a rating and review. I like to come back and do that. Can the check in feature have a select a date feature and not just be for that day?

Valuable Resource. I have used this on several trips to new riding areas. Guided us around even when I lost cell service for most of the day. Including driving between trailheads. I also like how it shows your position on the trail map as well as the elevation graph. Helpful to know how you are doing on new climbs when you are trying to pace your self for a long day. Thanks REI for giving us a great tool to get out and ride.

MTB for Maps, Strava for Progress. MTB Project app constantly logs out the user. Make sure you have your log in info readily available when you get in the middle of nowhere about to head out on your ride. If you don’t have internet access to retrieve your info, you will not be able to record your ride. The maps are great and the details for the trails is very good. Use this for finding your next location to ride then use another app to track your progress. I’m sticking with Strava for the time being.

Great for a newbie. I have found this app invaluable in my foray into mountain biking. I’m not a newbie to biking but I’m just getting started at MTB so I really needed help picking trails and staying on them. After picking a suitable trail, the gps keeps me from getting off track (I pull it out constantly on more complicated trail systems) and also helps with the difficulty that is either behind or yet to come. I highly recommend both this app and the sister app for hiking.

This app has the ability to grow!. When looking at what this app offers, I believe it has the ability to grow and become very popular! Since it focuses on the community and not the money, I can tell you a lot of people should switch to this if you love to mountain bike. Apps that focus on helping the community are the ones that can lead to become very successful! The more people that join this app, the better it will be!

Like being an instant local. The MTB app make every rider an instant local, by giving him or her access to rides in many locations. I’m relocating to a new area and have already found dozens of rides that I can’t wait to try. If it weren’t for this app, I’d have to spend months or years discovering these rides. The phone app has also saved me from getting lost. It’s like having a local rider in your pocket.

Really poor interface. Really bad interface.. was having issues route finding because the map wouldn’t let me move it around while it was recording. Not to mention, the recording feature is way off in stats. Doesn’t match up to the trail and for some reason won’t let me go back and review anything about it. I had high hopes because it seemed like an all trails for bikes, but turned out to be very disappointing of an app

Would be great but.... My ride never saves in record mode. It always loses connection no matter what trail I’m on. As far as I know, my cell connection isn’t dropping because I can see where I’m at at any given moment. On that note, the trails are really well marked on the app and almost always accurate! That’s a great feature when you’re out on a new trail and you’re not sure which way to go. A helpful update would be to allow users to add photos and exact location when submitting trail conditions. Having a photo and pinned location would make feedback and response way more efficient. Other than that, I haven’t found a more expansive app for mtb trails!

Auto zoom WAS a deal breaker. Update. Tech support was great. They told me about what to me looks lijecc BD a hidden feature. Turn off location lock by tapping on the location triangle. It stops the auto zoom that I hated. Spent hours looking for this button. Frustrating as it keeps zooming out while recording. It thinks it knows what I want to see. It does not. Give an option to turn auto zoom off.

Awesome - great tool for trail riding.. Once you download your state maps, the app works with gps even if you loose your cell/data signal. Super useful if your exploring new unfamiliar trails and you loose your bearings or miss a turn. Quick check on the app and your right back on track. Accurate reports on gradient, elevation, and distances. Trail descriptions and reviews are very helpful too.

This app seems broken for me. UPDATE. I used this app last year to find great trails, see reviews, and even recent conditions of trails. However, now when I use this app there are no trails to be found. I pick my state, zoom into areas of known trails, and nothing appears. I can’t even see a list of any trails in the state. I hope this gets fixed soon because this used to be my go to for finding new trails. UPDATE: Thank you for reaching out to me. I deleted and reinstalled the app. Everything seems to be working great now. I’m happy I can use this great app again!

The best app I have ever used!. I travel for work and This app has made that so much better! Easy to find trails near where you are or where you are going. When on the road this is the first app I look too. It is easy to see what trails are nearby and gives great information about them, often with great info from locals. And you download trails so that whether you have cell service or not, you always know where you are on the trail. That is priceless when way out on the trails! It has not only saved me many times, but given me confidence to ride new trails and know I will get back.

So good, I have to go to Colorado!!. I've been looking for a good mobile phone app for ages. Now I've found MTB project I have been reviewing all the rides I did 20 years ago when I started mtb in Colorado. I have to go back and this app will convince my friends to go too!

Looks interesting enough. However it doesn't seem to be aware of any trails in my state, let alone anything local. If the possibility exists to add trails, it is unintuitive. Disappointed.

The mtb project is awesome. Works amazingly for tracking or recording a track or ride and is simple to use

Australia. Doesn’t have much in Australia for the Sunshine Coast or much other Australian tracks

Just stopped working. So today my California maps stopped loading, and now no maps at all will download.. is there a technical issue?

Amazing app!. This app is so fantastic for anyone going out on the trails. I love to see where I am at , and use it to help ensure I am taking the right route

Better than Trailforks. Saying this app is better than Trailforks isn’t quite accurate. It is more refined, offering better features wrapped in a slicker user interface. It is still missing information I can find on Trailforks. I like this app a lot and will use it often but I am not yet ready to discard Trailforks.

No where near as good as Trailforks. This app looks nice but doesn’t have all the trails. For my area it is missing a lot of trail data that Trailforks has. Also, it doesn’t provide any trail reports or videos so how can you tell if the trails are in good shape or suitable to your skill level. No where near as useful as Trailforks for me.

So far it’s been good. I’ve just started using the App so as time goes on I’ll have a better idea so far it’s been good.

Canada trails. There's no Canada trails in Saskatchewan. Please add Saskatchewan trails.

Want to use but can’t. Not seeing Vancouver island! This coming soon?

Outdated maps. I was hoping this app would replace Trailforks but the maps are very outdated and many trails in my area aren’t listed. Not that useful as a map if it’s years out of date.

Useless. I have 4 massive trail network for downhill and xc none of them show up on this app sadly means back to trailforks for me.

Great idea that lacks usability. Great idea for discovering, nice looking but the navigation makes it useless and probably more often abandoned!

Great app. This app is need just as much as your tire pump if u want to explore with your bike

Explore new areas with confidence. Great source of inspiration for fantastic rides. Accurate information and easy to consult. Wow! If you love mountain bike. You need this app.

Not so nice. Unable to create an account and a lots of known trails are not showing.

Game changer app. I've been using this app for several years, I first heard about it while on the trail outside Taos. Nothing comes close for finding new trails while traveling and then following the trail while riding new stuff, and as said before, even when you don't have cell service! It's the bomb.

Trails need updating. I live and ride in Sedona AZ, arguably a top five MTB destination in the US. Yet neither this app nor the website accurately reflect our current official trail system. In particular, the Western Gateway (Girdner Trail area) has received a major overhaul over the last three years, but few of the new trails are represented here... and trails that no longer exist or have been rerouted and renamed are still listed. If Sedona trails are so poorly mapped, I can only wonder how accurately less popular trail systems are represented...??

Not very intuitive. All I wanted to do was find a good place to ride near my hotel- so hard! The app groups individual trails, not trail systems, and it’s hard to tell just how far they are from my location. Would be much more useful if it showed parks/systems (with some stats like total mileage, difficulty, etc), then drilled down to individual trails. It is NOT helpful to know that there is a 0.2 mile trail somewhere near here. Is that it? Is it part of a larger system with more trails?

How was I missing this?!?!. The App! Ok, quick review - Super easy to navigate - great info if your new but if you like the details it’s got it all. From elevation to great descriptions this app made our day so much fun. Totally added to the experience. Really appreciate the fine details on getting to the trailhead.

Unbelievable. This app is the best app I’ve ever used. It tells you everything you need to know about the trail. And it has off-line maps so when you’re high up in the mountains and there’s no service the App still work.

Awesome app. This app is amazing but it can improve. A feature I suggest is direction mode. Have the app tell you exactly what turn to take and when to take it. Because sometimes you run into forks or other trails that it goes through. plus have it time you for your runs. I love this app keep up the good work.

Helpful for Beginner. I’m new to mountain biking and this has been super helpful when riding new trails and discovering new trails in the area. I haven’t had any issues so far and it’s cool to record the ride and track progress. The condition updates and insight into the trail from other bikers is helpful too.

Was the best. I can’t trash this app completely because of how great it use to be. But whatever update they did destroyed it. You’re not able to view tracks, see any around you or use this app for about anything

If you ride in the mountains you need this app!. This is truly an incredible app. I’ve only explored my local SoCal routes but they have them nailed. The mapping and description is spot on! I can’t wait to explore more!! Well done! Now I need to find something like this for road biking.

I wish there was more. It is great app it does everything you’d want it to do but I wish it all the that the website has specifically being able see the percentages for how the trail is rated (for difficulty and enjoyment) and I would also like the ability to comment on trails. Other than that, no problems.

Would like more sorting features. I love the app, I only wish there were better ways to sort the rides out near me. On mountain project, you can sort based off of the grade or type of climb, I would love to see a feature on this where it is easy to sort by grade, distance, or rating

Great App. I just got back into riding after an almost 20 absence and with a move to a new state I needed a way to find some places to ride. Since my 13 yo son is riding too the app helps me pick places that will challenge both but still be fun at the same time. Best app I’ve found for finding places to ride.

Great Idea.... but definitely doesn’t deserve more than 3 stars.. I’m an avid mountain biker who does a lot of trail discovery on my own. It is PARAMOUNT that I have detailed and accurate record of trails at the places i’m going to. With this app, I see many, common trails i’ve been to completely gone and an entire trail system just not there. I understand that it’s user based and it’s up to us to fill it in but I don’t have that kind of time. I switched over to this after trailforks because a premium subscription and I am highly disappointed.

So many trails. I ride gravel. Even though this is supposed to be for mountain bikes, there are a ton of gravel roads and routes. It would be nice if the developers added a filter for gravel riding though. It is easy enough to figure them out by reading the route description and difficulty factors. Great app for discovering trail links too.

MTB project. MTB project is a great website and app. It is so easy to find everything in trails from downhill parks to country side single track. The only thing I would like to see different is looking from a specific trail back to a trail list. Sometimes I have to reload the app in order to get a list of local trails.

Amazed. I am amazed on how quickly the app downloads the trails in each state. However, I am not satisfied with the fact that I can’t really use the search to find bike parks, nor see them where I know they are on the map. It would show some trails but not all of them in the bike park. Although I haven’t yet used this app on a trail and still need to look through it more, this is a great app.

Great for exploring trails around your area. This app allows you to see trails extremely close to you that you didn’t even know existed. I used to struggle finding trails in my area but now I can get exact driving directions, feedback from other users, and can find trails that better suit my riding style

Recent Update.... It seems to have fixed some issues I (and others) were having. Functionality seems to have returned, but interface is still a little unintuitive. I definitely had to find my way around the new interface. I used it on the trails today and it was definitely better than it was a couple weeks ago!

Great Mtb Bike app. Thanks for making it easy to find place to ride. This app is great for planning out where to ride next and to be prepared for elevation climb. I love the feature where you can drag you finger on the elevation chart and it shows you where it is on the trail map… very helpful. Thanks for all you work to make this app great. Blessed!

Great app but.... It would be nice to have an offline map since i have noticed it doesn’t work when you have no signal. You see the trails but no way to get there if you are driving and have no service on your phone.

Not all changes are for the better. I have used MTB Project for a few years now and it once was my go to app for trail beta. What once was an easy to navigate trail finding friend has now become a frustrating foe. Gone are the easy touch a trail for info days and now I have to actually know the name of the trail and hope it’s on the ride I am presented with. MTB project you have succeeded if your goal was to send people to Trailforks!! If not, may I suggest your earlier version with the addition of other suggestions for rides in the same area.

Mt Bike Project. Initially I used this app to locate trails when I moved to Nevada. In addition to finding trails suitable for me it also leads you to the exact parking place to start a ride. While on a ride it also keeps you on the correct trail. In some places you can get very lost with trails that split off and frequently no markings. This app makes Mt Biking much safer and enjoyable.

Clean interface, user friendly, go-to trail app!. I love this app. Simple as that. My only complaint is that there are some trails missing that haven’t been added yet. This is the only time I use TrailForks over MTBproject. But since this app is newer and growing, it’ll only be a matter of time before many of the smaller trails are caught up!

Takes me everywhere. I’ve used this app on lots of trails in lots of states and it has not failed me yet. I always know where I’m at, how long a climb will be, and how to get back to the car. That is especially important as a old lady riding alone on single track.

Love this app!. Amazing app. I Have used it many times to find and get through many trails! Could use a little updating to make it slightly easier and more intuitive to use, but overall a great resource!

New major changes make hard to use. Disappointed with the update in the last few months. Can’t see full names of trails on small box icons at bottom of map so Very hard to find the trails you are looking for especially in a dense network of trails. Searching for a trail by name is even more frustrating. For example typing in lookout gives you about 40 trails all without any designation of which area or state they are in. Wish is was back to the old layout.

Great for trail research, but needs OSM/OCM map layer!. This app is great for researching trails and recording new ones. One limitation I see is lack of OpenCycleMap or even the OpenStreetMap layer. OSM is offered on the MTBProject web page and would be invaluable in the app itself, especially since many of the trails out there are not yet recorded in the project. This considerably limits this app’s utility during actual rides themselves.

Map in your pocket. This app is fantastic. Easy to use with zero fees. No ads, no in app purchases. Whenever you travel, pull out the app and see all the great trails near your location. I’ve used this app for years. It’s never steered me wrong.

Great for planning, NOT great for riding. Way too basic GUI for riding. Does not allow you to zoom in while recording a track. Immediately bounces back out to show you the entire track you have ridden. This just seems inane. When you have ridden 10 miles it’s impossible to see any detail in area you are riding in. All other aspects are better than Trailforks but this just seems like an enormous oversight.

Great App. Got back into Riding after an almost 20 yr hiatus. This is way easier than the book I bought to find local trails. Simple to use a for the most part dead on. Some trails are marked incorrectly but if you know your skill level you know what you can tackle.

BAD update. The update destroyed the app. It is no longer intuitive to use. The trails are hard to click on one by one. The trail list gives trails that are not on the map area. It is very hard to get a sense of an area without actually clicking each trail. The elevation is hidden on the tiny mountain icon that took research to find. It is hard to pin and unpin trails. Bring back the old version!

Very hard to use app.. It stops your tracking for no reason so you lose not only where you are on the map but all info on your track. You can’t zoom out or in to see the entire track and details. You can’t move the map from your position to see where you need to or where you have been. This is unacceptable and totally unnecessary. There is no way to correct this within the app. I am going to look forward one that is more user friendly.

Magnificent app. Invaluable, especially if you live in or travel to places with tons of trail options. Information is plentiful and helpful, even while on the trail. One of the best apps I have ever used, of any type. Interactive maps, gps tracking on trail, descriptions and conditions and photos and elevation and on and on and on.

My preferred Mnt Biking app.. MTB is my go-to app for all navigation need whether I am riding my mountain bike in the US or Canada. I find it easy to navigate and very reliable. Much more so than TrailForks in my opinion. MTB is an intuitive app that has helped us on many occasions. I highly recommend it for all mountain bike enthusiasts!!

Best way to MTB across the USA. The best way to explore a country is on your mountain bike! We roadtrip with our bikes and this app has been a great way to find different routes for a cycle. I search the area, look for the type of ride we want, if necessary, I download it to my garmin. It’s added a whole new dimension to our travels. Love it!

Life changing and saving app. This app is wonderful. As a new mountain biker and new to the northwest this app has helped my wife and I choose trails, find new adventures, plan driving, and save our lives while on the trail from getting lost in the middle of the forest even with no cell service.

Great app. Absolutely love this app!!! It has revolutionized mountain biking! It just gets better and better! The only criticism I have is the using of a blue current location dot on the blue background of a highlighted trail which makes it hard to see. Would love to see some bright contrasting color other than blue.

Super Useful for MTB. The app has accurate trail description, elevation profiles, directions for going there and excellent coverage of (at least) the U.S. somewhat subjective: the trail rating is reliable, so you know what level of difficulty to expect

Love this app!. This app is so good for trying out new and exciting trails. Not only does it provide detailed descriptions, ratings, difficulties, and conditions, it also provides riders a chance to review the trail to let other riders know about obstacles and conditions. I would highly recommend this app to anyone and I have no idea what would cause anyone to rate this app poorly. 11/10!

Great Trail App!. Downloaded this for going mountain biking in Cable Wisconsin and absolutely loved it! Because I was able to store the state map I was able to use this on the trails despite having no cellular service. Was extremely helpful for finding what trail to ride and what pickup/drop off points were. Highly recommend!

Want biking computer. The app appears to be the best of its type. Good, downloadable topo maps. I do want a biking computer functionality. If it had velocity, distance, elevation, and time measures then this app would be complete. You can get great, and free biking computer apps however I would prefer using a single app.

Would’ve been lost in the wilderness!. Recently road an unknown trail outside of Sedona, Arizona. I was on a tight schedule because my ride was leaving town. I got to a an intersection a couple of hours in and I knew the name of the trail I wanted. But wait. The trail goes right and left. If it hadn’t been for this app and it’s arrow function I’d still be lost in the wilderness! Thanks MTB!

Game Changer. Such a sweet app. My adventures expanded tremendously with this tool in my pocket. Great way to find local rides. Awesome GPS when you’re off the grid and without internet. Vertical profiles help gauge your ride choice depending on how much you want to torture yourself. I love it. Can’t figure out how I managed without it.

Amazing insight. This app is phenomenal for beginners and advanced MTB riders alike. Allows you to lookup trails based on location, difficulty, among other factors. Favorite your locations for east access and get updates on trail conditions when others ride. I’ll be looking into the other REI project apps for hiking, etc.

I only have one issue with this other than that it’s great. Thr only issue I have with this app is that it doesn’t give you the ability to add parking spots. I think Trailforks biggest feature is it shows you parking at trails and you can get directions directly to them. If MtbProject added that feature it would be perfect.

Amazing! Easy to Use and Helpful. Absolutely love this app. It makes all the difference when trying to find the perfect ride and explore new areas. The details about the rides and functionality of the maps are helpful throughout the rides as well and it’s so exciting when you see that you are at the top of the climb on the elevation graph:)

Site for MTB riders from MTB riders. Folks I love it and appreciate the great intuitive nature of the site. The trails are easy to follow and “need to know” information is listed. All this and with navigation, stellar!!!! You are continuing to keep MTB fun especially is places that are new to us. Keep the MTB world connected no matter where your from...we can ride everywhere thanks to MTB Project. Well done and thanks, Justin Loxley

Information. I use this app every time I go for an extended ride or visit a new area. This active GPS system has given me the confidence to go big, solo on some exploratory missions. Especially if you don’t want to hear others whining or bit*+~n about the unknown. Love this app. It’s an awesome active wealth of knowledge. Go airplane mode and it works perfectly! Jim Jones

Great App. This app is a great way to find new trails to ride and to be able to have your trail mapped out even with no service. My only complaint is the recording feature is very inaccurate with recording your elevation gain, it’ll say you did 2-3x more than what you actually did. Otherwise this app has been very helpful with keeping me from getting lost.

Great app, crappy UI.. I should be able to tap on a trail on the map, then tap on its title at the bottom. Then I should be able to read about it and see what other people have to say. When I do that, I tap on the name of the trail at the bottom of the screen and it closes the bottom section and brings me back to the map. Pretty stupid. This seems like an obvious way to read more about the trail, but it doesn’t work. I don’t see any way to get to trail descriptions from the map.
