Awesome, it's only crashed on me twice. Ever since I got this app last year, it has payed for itself ten times over. I've learned so much from it and have had such a great time experimenting with sound, making presets, and playing music on it with my friends. The only thing that would make this better is a surprising update.

Great sound design tool. I have been looking for a sampler use in a creative way. This is it. I like to find the hidden sound within a sound and this app excels in taking a found sound to an unexpected place. It is intuitive to use and sounds really good. The three sample playback types give you a lot of options. The regular option of changing pitch slower or faster playback is the one we are most familiar with. It works as you would expect. The granular option is great for taking a sound into nasty sounding territory. My favorite is the option called Modern. It preserves a great deal of the character of a sound for much more of the full keyboard range without turning it into a "chipmunk" sound. There are options for control volume with the position of your fingers on the keys. It makes for some expressive playing. The only complaints that I have is that the name sounds like it's some sort of urine testing kit and the wizard cartoon that looms up from the background is distracting while in use. There is no end to how annoying that cartoon becomes and I think it undermines the seriousness of this wonderful, creative app. I really wish there was a way to turn off this last feature. Over all it is Fab.

Excellent!!. In the hour sense the release of this version, I've been able to interface SampleWiz with a YouRock Guitar (which will be a long and fascinating study....), my keyboard, and most importantly, with some iPad MIDI instruments I am currently beta-testing - it's been a wonderfully loud time! Thanks so much, and eagerly looking forward to the tour and new album!

Not my EPS!. Kidding. But I had the ensoniq eps back when you had hair. I always looked up to Dream Theatre because my friend Scott played me lots of Tony Macalpine, Malmstein, Dream Theatre and ZAPPA. He played drums, I keys. Best time of my life 80's Las Vegas. Sample Wiz is a great simple to use FRICKEN DOWNRIGHT MARVEL of musical wants and little to no side crap. I love it and like I said - EPS, had S750 with disks and monitor! s550 (wow talk about time investment) the Akai's and the EMU's were great because the gnarly filters and effects that made its mark profoundly on the slamming Drum and Bass scene (Ed Rush and Optical, Bad Company UK, Tech Itch, Cause 4 Concern, Konflict, Acen, Total Science, etc.) that over the top filtering I have yet to hear equal in a plug in or app (even crud) but thank you for the great versatile portable sampler - it is EXACTLY what I was looking for!

Ugh.. Wish I could get my money back on this. Another reviewer put this in the same class as animoog. Not even close. Animoog is an instrument. This app seems pretty useless. Lack of included quality samples prevents it from inspiring cool stuff. And the sampling time is too short to even make it a useful sound editor. Save your money and pick up animoog and loopy. Those are a couple apps you can have a lot of fun with. If you can actually play instruments, you may find this a let down as I did. If this were a free app, I would have played with it for 5 minutes and deleted it.

Have to admit it's excellent fun. Mr rudess makes my skin crawl, and I wasn't a big fan of that app with the annoying witch flying around my iPhone. But this app, it's an entirely different beast. Fun, completely useable, and brimming with possibilities. I might just grow an annoying goatee after playing with it, pretty amazing.

Another home run. Sample Wiz is proof that a good music app needs an expert to oversee all aspects of its production. Rudess seems to have found the right partners for these projects as they have channeled his expertise beautifully into not only practical but also fun apps. Also, like MorphWiz, SampleWiz is both for the novice as well as the expert. I personally may be a drummer, but I too am loving this app for its intuitive interface and great entertainment. The last preloaded sample was a very nice touch. Thanks Jordan!

Love it. Best Rudess app yet!. I have been in music industry for 30 years. I find myself using this more than my hardware samplers. Definitely awesome for on the go ideas and high enough quality to be used professionally. I've even used it for foley in movie editing

Two words: amazing. I forgot the rest :). I wish there were enough time in the day for me to play with this incredible app. One feature request remains, though. Unlike Morphwiz, I can not listen to samplewiz through Bluetooth headphones. That would be nice to have.

Wow. This app will truly blow your mind. I bought it mainly to use jordan's sounds in my own music but this is capable of so much more. It's like morph wiz in keyboard/sampler form. Well worth the money. I can't see how they will be able to update it, there is nothing wrong with it and I see nothing that needs improvement. It's all awesome but I expect Jordan will find a way to make it even better and blow our minds past what they already are. Thanks for all the cool apps Jordan, we'll see YOU on the road!

Next Gen App. I have a lot of IPad musical apps but this one just made my jaw drop. It reminds me of the early experimental days of electronic music. Lots of plugins can do what this app does but not as easily. The ability to record something and then totally change it and perform with it makes an IPad worth having for this app alone.

Quite a disappointment. Not so much the great musical app I thought it would be. Very little room for customizing an personalizing this app, despite it being mainly focused on sampling. Another sad thing, is half the presets are complete jokes - no exaggeration. Presets like "play with sound" and "touch the wave" are very childish and purposeless. I was taking a risk spending 10 dollars on this, i think this app is worth 4 dollars tops. Only get this is your desperate to play with some JR presets with decent quality. Jordan, I hope you do better next time.

Love it!. This app is seriously amazing. I loved bebot And never did buy Morphwiz so when I heard about your new app I HAD to have it. Started ripping out DT melodies and learned very quickly. Everything looks pretty, is functional and sounds great. I would add wave reverse and that's all. Jordan Rudess knows what else to add.

This guy is good!. I bought MorphWiz awhile ago, and now this one trumps it! Both are brilliant! Awesome interface, exciting sound texture, anyone dissing this app doesn't know what they're talking about. I have been producing electronic music for 16 years, spent a fortune on pro gear over the years, this app is a fine example of the quality level that is possible on the iPhone platform. $10 well spent! Cheers!

One of the best!. There really isn't any argument to be made as to why this app isn't one of the best of them. It has a lot that still no other synth apps touch on and now with audiobus support it really has no bounds. Been waiting a while for Wizdommusic to get on board and knew they were! If iOS synths are your thing and you are thinking of getting this app. Just do it! You won't regret it

Love Jordan...not this app yet.. Need to find out why it crashes repeatedly. Looks like it might be fun...crashes about 3 minutes in to using every time. Hoping for fix. FOLLOW UP: The developer went the extra mile to solve this issue for me. After determining the problem, he worked on the fix and got me up and going. Very impressed with the service and results. Kudos to Jordan for working with a quality group.

Soundscapers/designers rejoice!. The power to sample, resample, build and replace across the spectrum of classic, granular and modern modes on SampleWiz is where this application's true power lies. Used in conjunction with something like Nanostudio, the possibilities truly become endless. You can control, create, mangle and destroy sound like you never have. This is an excellent tool for a sound designer or someone who is truly interested in creating their own audio from scratch. Fantastic. Thank you, Jordan.

Not for me. Looking for something like this but I don't think this is the one. The lack of audiobus support is a big drawback. and the fact that it has not been updated in so long makes me feel like I may have bought into abandonware. I hope I am wrong. I sure am glad I found the setting to turn off the splash screen audio. Honestly, what a terrible idea. I was trying to figure out if I could use the app live but I had nightmares about having to relaunch it at a gig, forgetting, and having the cheesy "SAMPLEWIZ!" blare out over the PA. But that's exactly the kinda thing I am finding I don't like. The moving backgrounds, the ugly and distracting neon interface, a ton of useless waves that would need to be cleared out. It's more like a promotion for itself than a serious instrument. If it gets an update with an option for a cleaner interface, and audiobus support, then I will take a second look.

Did not see it coming. OK, first off, I have to admit that I am a bit freaked out by how powerfull this thing is. I did not expect it to be a toy at all, but observing how all its different interfaces and modules came together to achieve a single sound design goal was jaw drapping. I have tried doubting its capabilities every other step of a professional task, only to be immediately proven wrong. Thank you guys for this!

Fun but flawed. I'm getting a lot of crashes with the current version on ipad2. Each time, this results in losing the samples that I've made. The samplewiz website indicates that this should not be happening with the current version, but it is. It does run better if I manually close all other apps, but I should be able to switch between this and another audio program, like --say -- filtatron. Also, the loop crossfade needs to have some kind of adjustment. Typically with samples I record, I cannot get a loop that doesn't click. Maybe some kind of snap-to feature for the loop region would fix that. Regardless of the loop settings, I often get clicks when sweeping between notes. This doesn't seem to happen with the provided presets, but my own samples sound terrible. Lastly, I'd like to see more effects or some kind of LFO/modulation section, but I'd hate for the developers to introduce more features that cause it to crash. There is tremendous potential here: Being able to trigger the sample from different start points with different notes, simultaneously, is groundbreaking! Also, the provided presets sound great.

Issues with 4 finger touch function..... I updated my iPad recently and now I am unable to play more than 3 fingers due to the four finger touch function... This is more a question than a review. How, if there is a way can I disable or lock this function while I'm using music related apps? Best app ever though I wish they had a 7 star option... Thanx in advance

Jordan never ceases to impress!. Again, another very intuitive, original, and creative app. The interface is easy to move around and the help function is very convenient too. The reason I gave this app 5 stars is because over anything else, it's just fun! It's simple enough that a kid like me could just pick it up and have fun with, yet intuitive and creative enough for my dad to use it and come up with some awesome sounds! 100% recommend to anyone. Hands down.

Awesome for any Sound Designer. This is a terrific app for any Sound Designer. Using it just once in a project will justify its cost. I don't use it in a musical sense, I use it to create interesting sci fi sound design and can usually come up with something uniquely creative in less than 10 seconds. The ability to get hands on and just play to experiment is priceless. As a suggestion for future updates I'd like to see more input and output syncing options. Perhaps a wifi sync between any computer.

Extremely fun and versatile!!!. All of Mr. Rudess' apps are amazing, but this one takes the cake! The interface is very user friendly once you figure it out. The preset sounds are amazing as well, JR lead... Omg!!! Lol, this app is amazing, and this review is not lol, but trust me, any app that Jordan Rudess creates is a must have, especially SampleWiz!!

OMFreakinGoodness!. Wow is all I have to say when it comes to this app! It is totally amazing with what is being done with music apps these days. It is only right that I take my hat off to Mr. Rudess and the dev team for releasing what may be my go to app when it comes to creating my own sounds going forward. The features mentioned above speak for itself, but I have one request and that is to make this app compatible with my AKAI Synthstation 25, PLEASE!! Do this and I will add one more star to make it 5.

Worth so much more than a 10 spot!. I have only been playing with this app for about a half hour but it is mind-blowing! I wasn't even looking for sampler but after I watched Jordan's video I had to have it. This is yet another game changing music app for the iPad. Well done Jordan and his Dev team.

Still one of the best sample apps. After many years still a most capable and enjoyable app. Wish we saw more updates or v2. Would be nice to have 2 Osc and an envelope filter would really beef up this app. Please please update or release a newer build would pay again for it. Still waiting. This is a very basic app in it fullest which makes it what it is. Simple straight forward and works quite nicely. Let's start a beta testing for version 2 you know simple is always the best so let's make it happen

it's saying it's not compatible.. I assume it''s an amazing app, but I have an ipod touch 3rd generation, which it says samplewiz is compatible with, but when i go to install it on my ipod it says it's not compatible. Why isn't it working?

Simply Amazing. Best sampling app out there. Learned it in about ten minutes. After using this for about an hour I have found only a few things I hope can be added. One would be the ability to reverse all or a portion of a sample. The other being a section that can track you're finger across the wave so you the finger would be the needle that you can track forward or in reverse at any speed.

An awesome app!. I'm from Venezuela and I certainly recommend this app. I bought this app about 2 weeks ago and I have to say Jordan Rudess you're a genius! This app is simply amazing! Can blow your brain out if you use it with your keyboard. I must say thank you Mr. Rudess, for the inspiration and the incredible set of apps that you create for iOs devices! It just need Audiobus support to use it as an input, effect or output!

Unbelievably cool app. I can't believe the fun I'm having sampling anything and everything that makes a sound. The presets are crazy good. Playing Jordan's lead sounds from Dream Theater on my ipad is surreal. The visuals are really tied into the audio adding another dimension to my experience. Just saw a random wizard character appear on my screen. Wild stuff! Gotta go - it's time to sample my dog...

What a delight!. Need I say more? This is yet another incredible app from Wisdom Music. What's so wonderful about the efforts Jordan, Kevin and team have put into this is that, like other apps Jordan has either made or sponsored, the fundamental control and performance ideas are truly revolutionary uses of the multi-touch interface. While replications of traditional synthesizers, DAWs and sequencers on iPad/iPhone are interesting, they really don't leverage the unique possibilities of this kind of interface. Morphwiz, and now Samplewiz, like Hexatone, do. In spades! But not at all at the expense of lovely sound quality, either. The musical and sonic possibilities of Samplewiz simply go beyond what's possible anywhere else. At a time when the big-corporation MI business seems to be getting increasingly conservative and unimaginative in their latest offerings, rehashing tech and interfaces they've been purveying for almost 20 years.... wow. What a refreshing and stunning inspiration this is! Thanks, peoplez! Keep on going! I hear Ipad3 is not far over the horizon. I'll be buying it for your apps above anything else.

Coolest Musical Tool App. I have used a lot of the different tools for the iPad and most of them have been ok at best. This app by Jordan RUDES is fun and easy to make music with. I downloaded it and had it plugged into my home studio in minutes. I love the sampler and the way I can switch between a keyboard and other input options quickly. Nice job and great app!

Impressed. I researched this app a bit by watching the video and reviews. I wanted something professional in terms of creating new sounds. I own Logic and several good Vsts. I find this app very well done and easy to use. Seeing that the last update addressed low mem on iPad 1 closed the deal for me. Sure Midi core would be nice and I would not be surprised to see it added in a later update. I've only owed it a few hours and I don't have that buyers regret you get with so many apps. Looking forward to adding this to my production in the future. Recommended.

Missing link. This is the music app I was missing. I looked at it last year and decided to wait for Audiobus support. Am extremely happy with my purchase. High quality sound and amazing tweaking and warping capabilities. Especially love the ability to resample live play of just-recorded samples. Nice job! Will be using and abusing this app on a regular basis...

Please Make it AUv3! Will Put SW Over The Top!!!. An awesome app and Sampling delight! I created some of my very favorite ZT3A Synth presets on it and Wow! Amazing the amount of tweaking that can be done. I love the UI but I really wish I could load several instances of SW! Please make it AUv3 and it will put this awesome app over the top! An essential music making app!. Awesome bit of kit that does everything you need a sampler to do. Controls are simple and elegant, very performance based. It's not quite as full featured as Samplr but definitely more playable. Haven't tried this trick yet but gonna see if I can sample from a radio app like dub siren into Samplewhiz.

Very nice. I really dig this instrument. The possibilities are very mind blowing. I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to import my own WAV files that I make in Ableton though. I have exported them to iTunes but SampleWiz doesn't seem to recognize iTunes on the pasteboard. Am I missing something? Cn anyone steer me in the right direction? My only two wishes for SampleWiz would to be able to assign different samples to different keys on the keyboard. Or maybe have a clip launch pad that allows for playing many different samples at once. My second wish is for more that 10 seconds. Thanks and nice work!

Recently deleted, reinstalled and now it is working, was: Crashes on Ipad 3. Try to reinstall. It is working for me now. Love it. I like especially the different inputs (keyboard and graph) for playing the samples. Was: App starts and when crashes after showing the keyboard on Ipad 3. Please fix.

Not bad. This is a pretty good app.. Quite playable on the iPad. (Too small on the iphone/ipod; at least for my fat fingers.) A little slow for startup, and you have to dig into the prefs in the Settings app to disable the jingle at boot when using it in a live setting; in case you leave and re-enter the app and iOS has decided to vacate it for you. It's still got a few lingering 1.0 issues, but the Wizdom guys are taking care of them. Otherwise, an actual playable instrument, unlike most.

A step beyond.. So there's samplers and then there's SamplWiz. The app architecture is brilliantly matched to the iPhone interface. The presets are more than enough to whet your appetite for some creative adventures, and the sound is powerful and clear. This is one handy toolkit for serious players and even non-musicians could have vast amounts of fun with this. PS - I had an issue with the app shutting down right after launch. I tried a few things, one of which was to disable the play audio on startup and the wizard animation. Don't know what fixed it but haven't had a problem since.

Great patch creation for Geo!. i have been playing SampleWiz for a long time in testing. the combination of low latency, finger bending, good synthesis options, and running on ios makes this truly useful in the real world! Now it is also useful as a patch creator for Geo as well, as they were designed to work together.

Awesome appilcation with one flaw!. This is a awesome application except for one flaw the application does not shut down when you push the close button you have to reset you ipod to shut it off. A off button would be nice. Other than that it is a great application it does what it supposed to do and the rest is up to your imagination.

Incredible power on an iPad. First of all... Jordan Rudess is a creator of this. That should tell keyboardists that it is not a toy. I saw the demo video before I purchased. I expected it to cost well over $100. Imagine my surprise .. $9.99! This is a fantastic app that I intend to use in the studio!

This app is a load of crap--NOT!. Sorry, just had to say that. I LOVELOVELOVE this app. Can't stop playing it and with it. Toooooo much fun!!! Even a human phrase can be tweaked into a great sound. Or, use the phrase or any sound as it naturally sounds. One minor complaint and one major. It would be nice to be able to tweak the sounds more--than again, that's probable what the clipboard is for: haven't figured out how to transfer sounds to any of the listed apps--and I own all of them. Second, and more importantly, Jordan you make too many neat and tempting apps and I can't afford them all! Guess that's just how it goes. (Though I keep thinking Gimme Gimme Gimme--I want want want.) Thank you Jordan for a really fun app, and Toto too--no, no, I mean Morphwiz.

Could be better. For Aliasing and please stop putting your face or look alikes all over your apps. It is rather tacky and egocentric. This lacks so many things a real sample app needs. Its ok for putting in words and playing wacky sounds.

Atypical sampler. While this is probably the most "normal" interface of all your apps, it still puts an intuitive twist on things. There are modes and functions that are much more than meets the eye. The fact that it interfaces with geo synth makes it a must-have. Very inspiring work as an electrical engineer and keyboard player. Thank you! -Brendan Hasson

Read the requirements first.... I have nothing bad to say about this app in particular. I absolutely loved everything about it, so I bought it, only to find out that it doesn't work with my iPod Touch 2G. So I'm pretty pissed about that but it's my own error for being too easy for Apple. :(

F'ing crap. I payed 9.99 for this garbage it keeps shouting down all the time and I want my money back. Junk junk junk what a waist of money don't buy it.

Fav. My all time favourite sampling app! Seem to be having issues exporting, could be an iOS 11 problem. Hopefully will see an update soon

Almost 5 stars. Innovative,exciting, useful and cool to use. Why not give it 5 stars you ask? You rushed the release in my opinion Jordan. Can't name a patch? Yep that's a fairly major thing that should be there. I don' t need 14 patches called " nightmare piano" Also, the "modern" mode is flawed, adds some weird noise and amplitude changes and doesn't make up for the lack of multisampling at all.. Still, this app is killer and a must have in your music production arsenal. I'm hoping that an update will cure these issues. Great work Jordan and Kevin.

Worth every penny. I've been spending hours on this thing, it's amazing how you can just go on with it. I find it great for creating a synth drone to jam on guitar with. This isn't like MorphWiz where you can just start playing right away, you need to spend some time to get familiar with the buttons ... but once you do, you will find a lot of potential.

It keeps crashing. It's a cool app but frustrating because it keeps crashing (seems to happen mostly after trimming a sample). Otherwise a 5 star.

Audiobus please. Could be better with audiobus!

SampleWiz. Beyond Amazing!!! what a clever use of algorithms.....if only the kraftwerk App would have been like this.....

Good. This does what it does very well. I would like midi and to be able to set multiple samples up to play on the same kb w/ different zones, though. Nice sound mangling.

Great app. Versatile and surprisingly good. Not crazy about the presets, but easily added my own WAV samples and made lots of new settings. It's about as close as you can get to a Haken Continuum without spending thousands. Worth the $10.

Good app but.... I would really like this to work with the Alesis io dock. It produces a ton of noise through the mic input when attempting to record. Also, a drum pad page would be nice. It is a good app all in all though.

Wow. I was skeptical at first since the rudess apps look like toys but this thing is pure function. Very nice sample manipulation in a small package. Worth the price of admission!

Great app!. This really is an inspiring app to me. It's so easy to use and has some nice tricks that make sampling a lot of fun. I'm pretty much using SampleWiz on all my tracks, now.

Intuitive, fun sampler.. Does exactly as it should and has a couple inventive features that really add style to the sampler without over complexifying the interface. A fun and well thought out app that is easy to use and is quite original.

Review. I think that there should be high and low pass filters (Would be awesome for short samples or sampled arpeggios) But other than that, it's a great app :D

Great now!!!. This app used to make me sad. It was AWESOME, but without Audiobus support, of questionable value. Now that it has Audiobus, it is totally, thoroughly wicked awesome.

Great Sample Manipulator. Still the best, and most useful, sampler keyboard for iOS.

Crashing. It is crashing every time I try more complexes effects and samplings. Sadly, I'm not able to trust it to go in a live performance… :-(

Fun Audiobus-compatible MIDI sampler. Very cool features, three different stretch modes, neat resampling and sample point selection.. Wish I could sample more than 10 seconds, but everyone has their wishes ;)

WORKS ALRIGHT WITH MY IPAD 2. It crashed only the first tym i tried to open it after installation and it is just working fine from the next re-opening!!! Great app!!!

Amazing. Get this app! It is fun and addicting! I love the samples that come with it, my fav being JR Lead. I love how you can record any sound you want, edit it, and play it however you want to! A must get app!

Download to Gig in 4 hrs.. Absolutely fantastic! I downloaded it, worked out some regular sampling needs and was using it at a gig 4 hours later. I can't wait to play with it more!

E-mail Sample File. The samples don't open outside of Sample Wiz. When I try to open the files, I keep getting errors and messages that say the files are corrupted. Note: I doesn't matter what version of QuickTime I am using.

All around awesome.. Creative, cool DT presets, awesome interface, easy to use... Really useful and enjoyable-especially with a midi controller hooked up.

Constant crashing. I downloaded the app on my 5s and it crashes just a after a few seconds. I would like for an update, I'd really love to try this app!

Innovative and aesthetic packaging of technology. Thanks for the MIDI! Now I can potentially gig with this app. The cc mapping is good--better than most apps. The sample editing and looping is a little weak but it is a super fun app and pretty useful.

What happened?. Despite its gaudy visual design, it was fantastic functionally. Suddenly, it won't sample from input or mic. This is a pretty crucial aspect of what sets this apart from other synths. Please fix this, and retire the floating wizard while your at it. Every in depth review or blog I've ever read on samplewiz detests it.

Rockin' sample editor. I'm barely into how the app works and I am already impressed with the sample editor. Gave it 5 *'s and as I learn more, there's no way it'll be any lower.

Good App Gets Better. It's great to see SampleWiz get Audiobus support. You can get some great sounds with this app.

a delight yet surprisingly limited. This app never gets updated. Why the limitations of mono sampling and 10 second recording. Come on Jordon, iDevices have evolved since iPad 1 - why don't you bring this app up to speed?

Crashes constantly. Was one of my favorite apps until recently, not sure what changed from iOS 7.04 but getting crashes after 1st note or just couple of seconds. Please fix. Thanks!

I'm no expert but.... This is a sweet app. Fun fun fun and very cool. Make trippy sounds and samples. Wish I could loop more than one sound at a time... But definitely worth it! Do it.

Love this app. but ya gotta add audiobus. i just spent an hour trying to figure out a workaround to something that could easily be done in 30 sec if audiobus was implemented. thnx

crashes all the time. please update this app! i love it but it no longer works perfectly on my ipad 1. works perfectly on my iphone 4 but it always crashes on my ipad. i have ios 5.

10 Seconds???. I miss the piece where they mentioned up to 10 seconds otherwise I would not have gotten it. It is just sitting there now useless. 10 seconds is not enough.

Used to be a 5 star app... This app will not run on either an iPad, or an iPhone 4s. I get to the stupid intro and then it crashes - kind of a double slap in the face. This app is wayy too expensive to not work... Hoping for a fix.

Powerful and so EASY!. Great presets, amazing potential, and the superbly designed, intuitive interface will have you editing sounds like crazy in no time. Well done!

Works fine. I realize you may lose some expressiveness by allowing a midi connection but who cares !! Without line 6 or Akai synthstation 25 compatibility it is and forever will be a TOY!!!! Nobody can pound out a 7 or a 9 chord on this tiny keyboard. It's more for a 1 to 2 finger exploration of manipulated samples. Yawn. I need more functionality from my music apps. Please help us and give us MIDI.
