JBL Portable Comments & Reviews 2026
JBL Go 2 Not Supported?. I have a JBL Go 2 speaker I purchased a few years ago, which I haven’t used in a while. However, after years of not using it I was still able to power it on and pair it with my iPhone. However, upon redownloading the JBL Portable app, I have not been able to link the product to the app, even after powering it off and back on and putting it into pairing mode. I only see JBL Go 4 listed in the app. I’m unsure the complexities involved with supporting older devices, regardless, it is disappointing not being able to use one of their products within their app, and as this is the only JBL product I own, it’s essentially rendered the app completely useless to me. I’m hoping for an update that allows me to use the app with the Go 2.
Won’t Connect to Speaker. The app won’t connect to my JBL Flip 6 Bluetooth speaker anymore. It’ll detect it as connected, sitting there thinking for a bit, and then send me to my system’s Bluetooth settings telling me I need to connect to my speaker. This happened with the previous version of the app as well. I would need to click “forget this device” and then reconnect it for the app to be able to connect to it properly. But with the latest version this workaround isn’t working any longer. This means that I can no longer adjust the audio settings on my speaker or see the battery level. So frustrating!
🎧 Great Speaker, Weak App – We Need Custom EQ Presets NOW!. I’ve been a loyal JBL user for years — and the Xtreme 4 is hands-down one of the best portable speakers ever made. The sound is incredible, the bass is clean, and the clarity is world-class. But the JBL Portable app is falling behind. We have a fully functional 5-band equalizer, yet no way to save or recall our own EQ presets. Every time I want to switch between indoor, outdoor, or studio listening, or between different music genres like Hip-Hop, Jazz, or Rock, I have to manually re-adjust all five sliders. That’s outdated, frustrating, and totally unnecessary in 2025. Serious listeners and professionals deserve better. We need the ability to save multiple custom EQ presets — at least 3–5 slots (e.g., Studio, Party, Outdoor, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Personal). It’s a small software update that would massively improve the user experience and show JBL is listening to the community that made them #1 in portable audio. Your hardware is perfect — now give us the software flexibility to match it. #AddEQPresets #JBLXtreme4 #UserDrivenUpdate
Doesn’t have half of their products. I just installed the app because I realized I had 2 jbl speakers, a jbl go essential and the jbl charge essential 2, and none of them are on there, that’s stupid, don’t just add half of your products or just your favorite products you made and put them on there and call it good, and actually a lot of people have the jbl go essential and jbl doesn’t even have that product on there and you have all the “charge” products on there except for the charge 2 that’s stupid they all look the same. I’m giving this 3 stars
Won’t Connect Anymore. This app used to be great, but with whatever most recent update they pushed, it never finds my JBL Pulse 4. Half the reason I got that speaker and not a plain one is so I could adjust the color scheme and saturation, which you can ONLY do the app. You do have a manual button on the speaker itself to go through the handful of presets, but you can’t adjust anything else. My iPhone 14 Pro will still connect and play via Bluetooth, but I lose half the functionality without the app. You can still buy the Pulse 4 as well — I would be extremely ticked off if I bought a brand-new speaker and immediately lost half its functionality because of a faulty app. Disclaimer - I work in tech support. I have tried every combination of “fixes” and “hard restarts” and “forgetting this device” and uninstalling/reinstalling, to no avail. Shame on you if you’re letting this app die, JBL.
Functional app.. This is a very streamlined app but for the most part does what you need it to do. I gave it 4 stars because I am using it with the boombox 3 and it’s EQ is only 3 band. For the price of the boombox 3 JBL should have at least a 5 band EQ and the ability to save presets. Tribit has this on there stormbox and i think it is a 9 band EQ. EQ and volume is smooth, something that the JBL Pro Audio app LACKS terribly. Although this has a premium feel there are other companies out there that have apps that are more functional like Tribit. I prefer the JBL boombox over the Tribit stormbox but the app is better on the Tribit. The sound of the Stormbox is not to far behind the boombox 3 and if money’s a factor people will pick the Tribit. Just something for JBL to think about when the next update their app and I need to pay attention to all the hungry companies out there that are at the hills so they realize they need to be on top of things because they’re going to lose business to other companies if they do not.
Partyboost will never work. JBL will continue rebranding and renaming partyboost, or as I like to call it “JBL FM”. The app offers no ability to link serialized speakers and instead broadcasts it to all JBL speakers nearby and creates a sort of tug of war for power over who’s Bluetooth signal YOUR speakers will start playing. I own two JBL charge 5. I kid you not, your JBL speakers will start playing someone else’s music in party mode and there is no way to tell the firmware not to do this. Completely useless. Partyboost doesn’t work with even the slightest interference, like other Bluetooth signals, a slight breeze, or somebody humming too closely to your music. Such a big disappointment that the app doesn’t allow you any control over Partyboost linking or EQ while in Partyboost. Please add the functionality to pair speakers in Partyboost just to each other, so that they play MY music in stereo and not everyone else’s. Product is fundamentally flawed if this feature is not added.
Painfully little features & power saver is a bummer. I have a JBL Charge 4 and this app allows me next to update my firmware and NOTHING more. I want to turn off the power save feature that kicks in when the speaker detects a few moments of silence. I cannot use my speaker for watching movies because everytime there is a quiet part in the movie the speaker cuts off and then I miss several seconds of dialogue or whatever waiting for it to power up again. Such a disappointment I cannot turn that ‘feature’ off using this app. I am selling my speaker to find one that works simply across a variety of sound situations.
DOES NOT WORK. Have a brand new JBL charge5 and the app will not pair the device. I have followed their instructions numerous times to the letter and has not resolved the issue. I have tried to reset everything the way they describe and even tried other methods people have used. It will not pair this brand new speaker pretty frustrating given the cost. And the lack of support from JBL. this problem has existed for three years based off other people’s complaints on the Internet of the same problem. This will probably determine from buying any other JBL product in the future or at least trying something new.
Excellent with one flaw. Very good app and easy to use. I give it five stars. I bought a second JBL charge five and it works great in stereo when you add a second speaker you lose your equalizer I really really really like that feature. I didn’t wanna lose it but I’m very happy. I purchased a clip five which is just fantastic and very loud comparative to its size. I would love it to be able to be connected to my charge five speaker speakers. In party mode, but because they use different types of Bluetooth this isn’t possible. I really hope the up dates to the app will rectify this. I didn’t deduct a star. Because I’m just so happy with the JBL family of speakers I also own two party box 110’s.
Broken app ☹️. It’s unbelievable! The lack of ethics about consumers + product of the people behind this app. I don’t want to attack them or be an AH to them…. But geeez this used to be a great application until they started to mess with it. First their JBL speakers aren’t cheap and they work decently judging from my own experience some might have errors like any wireless device, but I have to say it software is very important for any device to at least work… when developers/engineers don’t keep or try to better their software things start falling apart unfortunately just like this. I feel very disappointed that they have broken the app to a point that isn’t even connecting to do the basic things! Hope that they pay attention to the people who buy JBL and start working on this app.
UNABLE TO CONNECT TO SPEAKER. Everytime I try to connect my speakers to the app, whether they are new or my usual speakers, it always loads and loads and never takes me to the configuaration page. Instead of seeing the battery indicator and even the equalizer option, and others, it seems that it doesn't detect any speaker. After 20 seconds of waiting, it gives this prompt saying: "GO TO YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS, TAP (name of speaker) FROM, THE DEVICE LIST, THEN COME BACK TO THE JBL PORTABLE APP". I have tried this several times. I even restarted, reconnected, and even have RESET my speakers, even my phone, but they never worked. How are we able to see the battery level, the partyboost option, or even the equalizer and stuff like before? JBL, what can we do with this? Thank You.
Use it only for firmware updates. It’s free and it gets you the latest firmware, which is basically the bare minimum you should expect from a device support app. It will not improve your experience with your speakers. I’ve tried with multiple set ups to manage stereo and party mode using the app, and it consistently causes one or more connected devices to cut out or distorts the audio. Save yourself the hassle and frustration- download it when you get your JBL speaker, update firmware, then delete it until you want to check for firmware updates again. JBL and HK should be ashamed to have their brands associated with the app, and it’s ridiculous to claim that it enables you to do anything other than firmware updates.
Software Cripples Speakers. This is a rating for the app, not the speakers. But I admit, It’s hard to know where the problem exists, is it the app or the speakers? However, after reading a large number of other reviews, it appears that there are problems using the app with many of the various speaker types that it supports. I have two Pulse 3 speakers and it is almost impossible to get them working in stereo mode. There is nothing about setting this up in the printed manual that comes with the speakers so I assume it is limited to setup via the app. Also I can sometimes get one of the speakers set up to adjust the display but never so that I can adjust the other without without disconnecting both from Bluetooth first. When I go to the Bluetooth setup on my iPhone to disconnect, I find two instances of one of the two speakers listed. What is with that? I would like to have four of these speakers, two for each channel but that is probably too much to expect.
Wish it worked. I got my Flip 6 last year and downloaded the app so I could control the bass, but after a few months, it kept saying couldn't find the device, and I have to delete the device from my Bluetooth then reconnect it. I use my speaker for multiple occasions, like get-togethers, studying, or just cleaning around the house, and I would like to control the bass and be able to look at the battery power. To be honest, having to delete the device and reconnect it to my Bluetooth, then reconnect it on the app, just isn't worth the time or effort. If I wasn't having these problems, I would definitely give this app 5 stars.
I wish this worked for stereo playback. I bought my first Flip 5 and absolutely LOVE it, so I bought a second because the literature said that the two could be paired for stereo playback. I was so excited to get the second today, pair them both, following the instructions provided. Both paired ans I sat down with one on each side, excited for the stereo experience. BTW, prior to this , I updated the firmware for both speakers, as advised by the app. Went to play and enjoyed maybe three seconds of stereo playback followed by one speaker going off, then the other, then both, then both back on, lather, since repeat. I hoped it would settle and get better but it didn’t. So stereo playback doesn’t work and it was the whole point of buying a second speaker. Please fix this so I can update my review because if this were to work as advertised, I’d be a very happy customer and would change this review to 100% positive.
Bugs. I’m a truck driver and I use my speakers all the time . I stopped using them before the update because they would go in and out . I just updated and I do see improvement on the sync, before the speakers would go out and come back on but would not be in sync with the picture. That problem looks like it is fixed. The problem now is they still go in and out , I use them with my iPad and I really love the speakers. I hope the developers can get this together and as the updates come out I will give my opinion on them . Also note they do not stay synced when you play them together. One will drop out and one will play on and off.I give two stars for the small update. Update august 5 . I will give five stars now because I haven’t had any problems with the connection for the last month. The app is working fine at this time.
JBL extreme 3 and JBL portable. My Honest Review on JBL Xtreme 3 & JBL Portable App 🎶 I’ve been using the JBL Xtreme 3 for a while now, and honestly, it’s one of the best speakers I’ve ever owned. The sound quality is powerful, clear, and full of deep bass. Whether I’m chilling at home, outdoors, or hanging out with friends, it always delivers that rich, balanced sound JBL is known for. The speaker is strong and durable, plus it’s waterproof, so I don’t have to worry when it rains or if it gets a splash. The battery life is great too—it lasts for hours and even charges my phone with the power bank feature. The JBL Portable app makes things even easier. I can connect multiple JBL speakers, tweak the sound, and update the speaker easily from my phone. Overall, I’ll say this—JBL really did a great job with the Xtreme 3. It’s worth every bit of the price. If you love music and want a speaker that gives you both quality and power, this is definitely the one! 🔊🔥
App & Party Boost Feature Issues!. I have a couple of JBL portable speakers and haven’t had much trouble previously with the app and partyboost (both on the app and using the button). First, I turn the speaker on then open the app and my phone recognizes the speaker and connects also making the connection sound but for some reason the app takes soooo long to connect to it and sometimes it says that it could locate anything?! —This definitely needs to get looked at and fixed asap, please & thank you! 🙏🏽 Second, partyboost is acting up. Both speakers will connect when I use the partyboost button on each speaker but I go ahead to play some music and shortly after a few minutes or sooner they start to cut out or disconnect from each other. Once they act up I can’t pause my music nor control the volume or anything until I reset them by turning them off then back on. Not sure if this happens more on higher volume but that usually when I’ll experience it for sure over 60% volume or higher. —Please take a look at this issue and fix asap, thank you. 🙏🏽
Missing one CRUCIAL feature. Recently JBL has actually been doing a really good job of updating this app and adding eq adjustments to speakers and making it more reliable. However the fact that you can’t eq the speakers in party mode is bafflingly stupid. Both the boombox 2 and charge 5 sound objectively worse without eq. The fact that you can’t make them sound better in party mode is infuriating. Honestly if they fixed this one problem this app would be almost perfect.
A few features for older speakers. I love how you can update the software of JBL speakers with this app and choose to put the speakers in both party or stereo mode. I wish JBL would add the feature for the Charge 3 and XTreme 2 to be able to go back to the previous track like their JBL Partybox series. I also want them to add a Feedback tone to indicate low battery so visually impaired people know when their speakers need to be charge. The last feature I would like to see is to have the sounds come out of both speakers instead of the left side only when making or receiving phone calls on the Charge 3.
Very big sounding speaker!. This speaker is very impressive in the size of the sound it gives out. I think it shows its depth, when it is task with outdoor duties. The bass that it gives out is convincing and believable, The mids and highs are balanced. You can adjust the sound further by getting the JBL app which provides an eq feature. The price is not bad for what it does. It’s build quality is well designed and practical. It also has very good battery life for long listening sessions. Bluetooth connectivity only, waterproof and various colors selection makes this a very good buy for anyone looking for a great sounding portable speaker.
All time JBL fan, get it together with stereo and party. We have two charge 5s and two xtreme 3 and we ride side by sides and e bikes with dozens of folks and we have gotten them all to get JBL speakers as we love them so much. The issue is party mode and stereo which uses the party mode of the speakers as you can see their party light glow when on stereo as well, cannot be locked down to your own phone. When you get near other side by sides or bikes running multiple speakers in party or stereo on their phones all the speakers go nuts. Your speakers start playing their music, their speakers may start linking to yours and playing your music, they skip and bounce all over and it turns into a terrible experience. This should not be complex, JBL needs to simply make it to where you can lock your own speakers into your own party or stereo mode. So that when others who are in party mode or stereo do not interfere when riding in side by sides and e jokes together come in contact with each other which opens minutely. Using pins or a locked out party mode you need to be able to bring your 2,3,4 speakers into your own party in a way other peoples JBL app and their speakers also in party do not see yours and don’t interfere with yours. If you want a big mash up with everyone’s speakers then have an option for that but shouldn’t be default. It’s funny too because stereos says use same model but when I put our two xtremes in stereo on my phone and the tek charge 5s in stereo on my wife’s phone after a few minutes they all still link together and are not the same model. Party and stereo need work and are a mess. The speakers are amazing. The app, party mode, and stereo are a disaster and need a lock out feature to your own phone , even from a security perspective that needs work
Very Easy to use. I really like this app. It is simple and easy to use. I like the fact that I can see the battery level of the speaker, customize the sound, install updates on the speaker, and even activate the playtime boost to prolong battery life. I have been using it off and on for 6 hours and it is still on 100% after charge. JBL rocks and this is my first time having a JBL speaker. I am satisfied with this product.
Sound cutting out resolved!!!. After reading through the reviews, there is a guy down the thread that explained how JBL support helped correct the issue. Don’t follow the on-screen instructions completely. Only connect a single speaker via Bluetooth to your device. Then use the app to link up other speakers via partyboost (connect feature). Once they are finished linking together via the connect app (REMEMBER ONLY ONE SPEAKER IS TO BE CONNECTED THROUGH BLUETOOTH), the sound issues will disappear. I have had nothing except for flawless crystal clear sound while streaming ever since! Thank you to that guy for posting the solution. I was going insane and was furious before that. Good luck whoever takes the time to read this.
Resourceful whenever it decides to function. This is an incredibly useful application, when it decides to function. I follow the simple instruction of connecting my phone to Bluetooth as stated in the steps. It constantly gets stuck in a state of buffering. I am currently attempting to adjust the Treble/Bass and have been waiting for over 20 minutes. Despite many trouble shooting attempts, this issue occurs anytime you use the application.
Love the app But there is a bug. I love using the app for many reasons but my favorite is the JBL PULSE 5 but there has been a bug that’s been happening for over 4 months now I thought it would have been fixed but on the Pulse 5 in the Tempo slider setting, almost 9/10 times the slider would not register when trying to slide it, not sure if the Hitbox is broken on purpose or just don’t work anymore but I have to keep trying & trying & trying just to move the thing just wanted to bring it up since there has not been a fix for it for a while now. Thank you if JBL reads this.
I give up on the app. First, the JBL Flip 5 speakers are amazing. The app, not so great. When using my two speakers in stereo they sound great playing through my iPad. I have updated the software in both speakers but the connection through the app seems glitchy. One speaker will stop, then the other, then they both come back on, then both go out. I’m still working to determine why there is an issue. When using the standard Bluetooth connection (no app) I have no problem, except the sound is mono through each speaker, thus, I don’t think this is a Bluetooth issue. I love JBL so I hope to find a remedy. If I do figure out the cause of my problem, I’ll try to up date my rating and note the fix.
Party Boost/Stereo does not work via iPadOS. Latest version of IOS and iPadOS 17. No problem on IOS setting up the party boost or stereo function between my two Xtreme 3 units and my iPhone. Quite straightforward. However, the iPad app is another matter. Simply impossible to activate party boost or its stereo option. I have reset the speakers, reset the Bluetooth connection on the main speaker. But that speaker will not shift into party boost or stereo mode despite the JBL app indicating it’s on. When pressing the infinity button on the main speaker, nothing. The secondary speaker quickly responds when I press its infinity button. But no sound comes out of the either speaker. There is a software bug in the JBL app’s iPadOS version preventing the connection between the 2 speakers. Please someone fix this. In turn I’ll change the rating to 5*****
App DOES NOT WORK… EVER!!. This app literally has never worked. I dnt know what the issue is, but it can NEVER find my JBL speaker. It is completely useless & has never worked even one time. I have tried to disconnect & reconnect like the prompts tell me, but that does not work. There is NO POINT in even having this app at all. I can’t imagine I’m the only one with this issue & I dnt understand the point of having this app & why more people aren’t complaining about it. The speaker links thru bluetooth to my phone, so the speaker works, but this app is useless. Don’t even bother downloading. I thought it would be fixed at some point, but after 2 years of trying, it still dsnt work AT ALL! I’m deleting it now. Had to leave a review for others before I do.
Awesome portable Bluetooth speaker. This little speaker rocks! The noise level and clarity is amazing! This is louder and sounds better than my buddies $350 BOSE speaker. And it’s virtually indestructible: water, sand, drops, all are protected from. Dropped it in the pool, and it really does float too! Great for parties and beach days, and the sound quality is what I would expect from a great company like JBL. Very happy w/ my purchase, and will possibly get another Flip 5 just for the dual speaker option. Coolest speaker in the game.
Great!. JBL is awesome. I have a JBL grip myself, and it works really well. I wish there was a way to time it though, so you the speaker would turn off itself after the amount of time you want it to stay on. That would be great for music while you’re trying to fall asleep, or listening to at night. Otherwise, totally great, the app works really nicely and most times connects immediately. Thanks JBL, keep up the good work. 🎶😆
Won’t Connect Anymore. When I first got the product the app worked perfectly, I could check the battery and adjust the sound settings, I even liked that you could update it from the app, but after over a year, it no longer connects to my speaker. It keeps telling me to disconnect/reconnect and forget speaker in bluetooth settings. To no avail. I’m more upset that I can’t update the product or even factory system reset because… the app wont connect to the speaker. I just have to wait until the speaker turns red to charge it. Product connects to all my devices perfectly, but the app has been rendered useless. Upsetting because the concept is cool. Love the physical product though.
Jbl boombox 2. I’ve been using the jbl portable app for years now and I haven’t had an issue until recently. I have two jbl boombox 2 speakers which I use often. The Jbl portable app for some reason won’t connect or recognize both speakers by themselves. I’m still able to use them in the party boost mode which still works fine. But the app will not connect to none of the boomboxes. I’m also unable to use the EQ settings through the app. In order for the feature to work it has to connect to one of the jbl boombox 2. JBL please resolve. Thanks in advance.
WTH??. Love the sound, portability and fun in the water. Only hiccup is when connecting the 2 Charge 5s. It’s a crapshoot as to which method will work. First - press pwr then when Bluetooth blinks on the speaker you have seconds to connect from phone. Then open JBL app and wait for the connect the 2nd spkr and choose stereo…wait for it, wait for it, wait for it…. 80% of the time it connects. The other 20% I have to turn both speakers off and restart the JBL app and try again. I have never been able to connect both speakers using the button on top of the speaker. Yes I have the latest updates.
Good after last software update. Update: works great! The system works most of the time, but often takes quite a bit of time to get booted up. Some of the time I have to turn off, and on the speakers. Some of the time I have to restart the software. Sometimes there is interference from other things the phone is doing which causes distortion. I wish there was a great way to do stereo by Bluetooth on my phone, but I have not found it yet. This is as good as I’ve found so far.
Awesome wireless speakers: GO4’s. Great job with the GO4’s. I initially bought one to see if it was going to work for me. I needed the speaker to work at a low enough volume to not over power my workspace. After a day or so, I liked the sound of it so I bought a second GO4 so that I could have a wireless stereo configuration. The JBL Portable app allows this and also gives you the option to adjust the EQ… All around a wonderful experience. Way to go JBL. I would definitely recommend these to anyone that could use them as a stereo pair… Keep up the good work!!!
Improve this app my speakers crackle. So i had bought 1 jbl charge 5 i loved how it sounded it wouldn’t crackle or anything it sounded how it was supposed to so I bought another jbl charge 5 i connected them i could only go a few minutes without one of them stop working or they both were trying to cut out from each other and made a Static noise and it kept happening even when i turned them off then back on i even deleted the app then redownload it again and it still kept happening after 30 minutes messing with it I finally got somewhat a solid connection then it happened Again so this needs to be fixed there great speaker’s but if yall fixed this app there are no complaints and it would be a 100% a good review
Love the sound, but hate the party boost function. Purchased these after liking my friends boombox 1. Not realizing that the multi connect feature & party boost work , thought it was just a re-naming to sound cooler. The boombox 1 doesn’t need the app to multi connect. I cannot pair my 2’s together unless the device providing the music has the app & you pair them up on the app. Which is limiting using other phones/devices (w/o the app) & connection to my TV. My TV can only sync to the 1st boombox. Was hopeful my (smart) TV could download the app but it doesn’t seem to be available? JBL should reconsider forcing us to use the app to pair the boomboxes together. They changed the multi connect feature that worked just fine, better actually than the party boost.
Getting there. For almost a year I couldn’t use this app to use with my speakers to play them in stereo. To there credit they do seem to be addressing issues with the app. I can now do stereo playback. However, one thing still bugs me, the app does not show an accurate representation of just how much battery life your speakers have, it constantly says 100%. This wouldn’t be so frustrating if it wasn’t for the fact that the speakers don’t show up as a Bluetooth device connected on the iOS front page where you see you battery status for other devices like your watch or Apple Pencil. I seriously hope they address this. Knowing just how much charge your devices have is crucial. *UPDATE* Here it is, tail end of 2025 and this app is still garbage. I have a little Bose speaker that I prefer to use over my three JBL charge 5s largely because the app performance is largely flawless. I can have the JBL connected via Bluetooth and the app still won’t recognize that anything is connected. Beyond that it never seems to remember stereo pairing configuration and I spend needless time fiddling with it instead of actually enjoying music through the things. These are easily one of my most regretted audio purchases. I got them for the sound, but the confounding crappiness of the app seriously ruins the experience of this product. There are constants updates but the same problems persist, it’s like no one is actually doing any testing.
Bugs - incl. damage to your ears kind of bugs. Pros: when this app is (was) working, it makes playing more than one portable speaker easier than trying to manage them through Apple Music. Cons: when attempting to update the firmware as prompted, both JBL Flip 6s abruptly started blasting the most horrendous, harshest, literally ear piercing noise while I was sitting about two feet away from both of them! That noise was so loud and so bad that I had to overcome my instinct to cover my ears with my hands to try and hard shut down the speakers. That took a couple of minutes simply to get both speakers turned off and the stop the hellacious noise. The volume control was not working, I was in panicked shock. No exaggeration here - we are talking literally hearing damaging harshness at a dangerous volume. I wish I had a way to convey how bad this actually was. Perhaps to help illustrate, my dogs literally fled the floor of the house that I was on yelping and whining, cowered for another 20 minutes and avoided that room for several days. Intelligent animals! For the past 6 weeks since, I have been afraid to attempt another firmware update, but perhaps fortunately - it will not progress. After multiple, multiple attempts the update seems stuck on 0%. Recap. Aside from the cons above and the fact that I absolutely cannot recommend this app, everything‘s great!
Great product but have one suggestion. So I have the Xtreme 4, I actually have two of these wonderful speakers, and they sound great! I love the ability to set equalizers in the app. However, I do believe that you underestimate this speaker a little bit. These JBL speakers are actually capable of producing even deeper base than what you give them credit for. I hooked one up to my computer and got nearly 32K sound out of it. It may not have been as strong as maybe some of your other products, but it is very decent. I think another equalizer setting to increase the deeper base might even be better. Even if it cannot get to 100. Other than that, I have no complaints.
Less for more. Sadly it seems the new Partyboost line has less to offer in exchange for a USB type, C plug. No microphone for voice control or phone calls, no backward compatibility with the connect line previous to it, and sadly no battery percentage displayed in my notification center. How do they expect you to go into the proprietary app to check your battery level and it’s still does not show you a true percentage only a four segment battery status bar. All this and still manage to charge more for a product that offers less than the model before.
Go ahead try and connect!. I’m give the app a one star for a big reason. If you think you can download this app one two different Apple devices and have the ability to switch from one device to another. You can’t. My very expensive JBL portable speaker will no let me do this. Once you correct you JBL speaker to an apple device like an iPhone. Your speaker will not connect to another iPhone or iPad. Even if you Bluetooth is turned completely off one the device you were previously connected to. I have tried deleting the app on both and starting over. Nine times out of ten. That doesn’t even work. FIX THIS PROBLEM or I will never ever buy another Car that has JBL or personal sound system made by JBL.
Works great for party boosting Flip 5 if done right!. Initially, I experienced an issue reported by others with two Flip 5s. When trying to pair, there was constant static/disconnect rendering them unusable. JBL responded that only one speaker can be connected to your phone’s Bluetooth and the other connects through the app to the other speaker. I can listen with party boost or stereo modes easily. The one issue is that once I set up which mode I want, I cannot open the app and easily change between the modes. It wants you to reconnect the speakers, essentially start over. However, overall an easy way to party boost/stereo your speakers.
Useless App for stereo or Party Mode. i purchased three JBL Flip 5 speakers over a period of time, because they claim to be able to be used in stereo as well as “Party Mode”. Party mode allows for multiple speakers (more than 2) to be connected to play music (non-stereo). I installed the JBL Portable app to my iphone after purchasing my first speaker. It seemed to have no functionality at all. Not even an option to configure stereo or party mode. i removed the app. After purchasing a second speaker, I downloaded the JBL Portable app again. This time it allowed me to change the Bluetooth name for the speakers. This updated app also looked like it actually had a purpose, but I was wrong. It does nothing else useful. It will not simultaneously connect to two speakers. It just toggles back and forth between the two speakers, endlessly asking me to connect a speaker. It never gives any option for stereo or party mode. Trash-Ware! The instructions provided by JBL on their website for stereo connection do not work and the app does not function properly. I recently purchased a third speaker for use in a larger meeting room. Again, the app was useless beyond allowing me to rename the speakers. I scrapped the app and spent 30 minutes trying to manually get 3 speakers connected for “Party Mode”. I finally figured out the proper sequence of turning things on and pressing buttons to get 3 speakers playing together. Two speaker, true “Stereo Mode”, just doesn’t work. I finally tried removing and re-installing the app. Same garbage app. So I’m stuck with playing mono on 1-3 speakers. The engineers did a great job on the hardware. The speakers sound great for their size. Unfortunately these excellent speakers have been crippled with useless software, that doesn’t seem tested, and just plain does not work.
JBL Charge 4 Camo edition. So I’ve had the speaker for about 2 years now and it by far is one of the best speakers I’ve ever used. But the only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it’s had a bunch of problems with charging, EVEN after I replaced the battery a couple days later it started doing the exact same thing it was doing before I replaced it. Now it’s working perfectly fine all the sudden and it’s only staying “charged” on the 1 out of 5 of the dots for charging and that’s what it was doing before I replaced it and I go on this app and it says it’s that low. Idk I take super good care of it always have and it’s still took a weird turn and idk if two years would be long enough for it to have anything happen to it but who knows. Please help idk if it needs an update but if so please send that haha. Thank you that’s my review. Send me a new JBL charge 4 or upgrade me to a charge 5 or trade mine in and upgrade me to the charge 5 and I’ll raise my rating but idk if it’s that worth the extra stars.
Fix this awful app please.. Edit. Jan 2020. This app will still not reliably and consistently allow two speakers (mine are identical) to play in stereo. A basic requirement. If your intent is to purchase a pair of JBL speakers to play in a stereo pair, please look elsewhere. I’ve had my speakers for over 18 months now and it hasn’t been fixed. End of edit. I bought two Charge 4s to listen in a stereo pair. Getting them to do that is nigh impossible. The app has been like this for a year now and nobody at Harman seems to want to fix it. Just read the reviews in chronological order - recent first. My advice would be to stay away from JBL’s speakers, nifty-looking though they are until they fix the app. Maybe it can’t be fixed. Maybe they have no devs. Who knows but the ability of two speakers to be able to play in stereo is a basic feature. FIX IT!
will not stay in stereo. I bought two JBL Charge 4's to pair in stereo. While it's simple enough to pair the speakers in stereo, they will not stay in stereo. Anytime I pause the music, or the music is interupted by a notification, the stereo pairing is stopped and it goes back to party mode. This is annoying. Additionally, I have a couple of JBL Flips, and if I'm running all four speakers in party mode, one or more of the speakers often intermittently lose connection. This happens even if all four speakers are in the same room and all are close to the phone. This is such a bummer because running the speakers sound so great when the app works, which unfortunately is infrequent.
JBL Go4 Randomly turns off. I got the JBL Go4 a month ago and really really enjoy it and the sound quality is amazing . I like the fact it can get very loud and the battery lasts a long time. The JBL app is also very good and has good options to put on the sound quality for the speaker. My only issue with it is that it randomly turns off mid song in about 30 minute periods. I don’t know if it is normal for it to do that or if it’s a malfunction in the speaker I got, but it’s really annoying when it interrupts my songs.

Would be useful except for continual connect fails. The app knows I have a JBL Charge 5 but the device has to be Forgotten, power cycled and Bluetooth paired with my phone while the app is open, to be discovered. That coupled with the app settings not being remembered means it’s useless except for firmware updates - not that I’m confident it would manage that without bricking the device. So, nice idea, fundamental flaw in execution.
Garbage. Get Ultimate Ears. This app is atrocious. It drops out constantly and the support for Stereo is practically non existent. Here’s how it works for the Charge 4. 1 turn on both speakers. 2 pair them with connect+ 3 wait literally 30 seconds for app to detect second speaker 4 switch to stereo Done? Not quite. To maintain it you must keep the JBL app open. And I mean OPEN. You can’t minimise it or stereo drops after 5 mins. You can’t pause music or stereo drops. You cannot close the app or stereo drops. I got two UE mega boom 3’s and they literally remember they’re in stereo. It’s perfect. The UE app is reliable and works. AVOID JBL or you’re throwing money away.
Good app. Hopefully Jbl can issue a future update that will allow you to remotely power on the xtreme 4 speaker from within the Jbl app.
Charge 5. This app is 100% useless. I thought I must have downloaded the wrong one when all I worked out the only thing I can do was connect another speaker. I have absolutely no idea why this app exists. You can see batter levels, adjust volume, turn on and off. I will be taking the JBL speaker back and getting something more equivalent to 2021. Absolutely pointless.
JBL Xtreme 4. I have recently purchased the new Xtreme 4. Since I am always fond of JBL speakers and purchased Xtreme 1, Partybox 310 and now Xtreme 4. I am particularly impressed with it’s preset EQ and 5 band EQ. It’s lighter, louder and crispier than it’s predecessors! With your Bass you stand out in the crowd of Bluetooth speakers! Continue gaining new height!
Waste of time Doesn’t work with go4. Updated it thinking that was the problem but no updates. Speaker connects to phone ok but not to this app?! Sick of trying this make it work have followed instruction over and over. This app not working despite reinstall. Reboot speaker. Etc. 🙄🙄 Just want it to not make noise when it switches off! Bought this speaker especially so it would work with app which is supposed to do that. But it DOES NOT work so I will never know. Why do speakers have to make that loud stupid noise when it turns off anyway?!
More to be done. Being able to turn my speaker on and off from app would be a big improvement. App takes too long to load each time opened.
It doesn’t connect with my flip6.. I tried to connect between this app and my flip6, but it never connected them. I turned on this app and speaker over 3hour to find each other, but it won’t do it. Can you fix this happen?
Light Customisation Feature. With the slider to adjust the brightness of the LED’s, is it possible to have a save feature so every-time you leave the app, it doesn’t have to automatically reset the brightness level and you can keep it at the highest level? Cheers
Complicated. Takes a bit of effort to pair two devices together each time you want to have a listen experience in stereo.
Stereo. I give two stars, one for each connected speaker. And only two because connecting in stereo rather than party mode is hit and miss at best. #disapointing
Love the sound not the app. I love my 2 JBL, great sound and great for camping. So much sound for small speakers. The app has constantly been an issue as I like stereo, in a word “clunky”
JBL boom2. It all good but app will be so much better if you can turn device on and off via app
Could be a bit more stable.. The app will not connect to the speaker easily. I have to turn the iPhone off and on again to get the app to connect. It is not as good as the party box app. So JBL can you fix the app please.
Takes a while. Takes a while to load up speaker eq for charge 5 otherwise it’s not too long to be patient for
On/Off button via app. UE Boom app has an On/Off feature to turn recognised speakers within range. How come the industry that knocked it out replicate the same feature? The app would actually be worth downloading then…
Difficult to get stereo on 2 JBL Flip speakers. Every time I want to listen to some music it takes a lot of time to get my 2 JBL “Flip 6” speakers to work as a stereo pair. I know how to do it BUT it takes many steps in the app anyoften doesn’t work and I have to repeat all the steps again! Please improve the app so I can simply turn on and listen in STEREO. It shouldn’t be so hard!
Always have problem with connecting and now it straight up don’t work. I want to change the eq on my JBL charge 5 but it won’t connect in the app and gets me stuck on ‘connecting to speaker’ before it tells me to try turning my Bluetooth off and on. I think u need to fix something in the software because I had this problem a while ago but I was able to work around it. now it’s just not working with the app compatibly
Must read. This app I really good I can adjust the equaliser settings and what not on my jbl charge 5 but then the app stopped working like I couldn't connect my speaker to it and kept asking me to click on the speaker in my bluetooth settings and it got really annoying but I managed to fix it my uninstalling the app on my phone and reinstalling it and now it connects just fine would recommend if you have any jbl speaker 💯
Does not work. Even though my JBL Charge 3 is connected via Bluetooth to my iPhone, this app is never able to locate and connect to the JBL Charge 3 speaker. I’ve even tried reinstalling the app multiple times, but still no luck.
POS Doesn’t work. I’ve just bought a flip 6, I want to connect it to the app and it just infinitely searches for product. Googling it shows it’s a common problem and nothing will fix it so basically it just doesn’t work 🤷♂️
App stuff. I’m giving this a 2 star because it takes so long for the app to pick up my speaker also you can’t access your speaker stuff when the speaker is turned off and it would be good if you’re able to turn off and on jbl speakers through the all like the Ultimate Boom app
Latest Update. Hi, from the last update having some issue , sound kind of muted not wide and bass is overwhelming, it’s just from last update. Im using Boombox 3 . Thanks.
ONCE GOOD BUT NOT UPDATED WITH IOS 26.2.. Won’t stereo pair with charge 5. Used to work fine before IOS update, with my IPhone 14, but last week changed to an iPhone 17 with IOS 26.2. Tried factory resetting both speakers, phone, everything. Seems to be a JBL software issue. After full reset both speakers now work in ‘party mode’ (wouldn’t before factory resetting both JBL speakers), so now lets me add the second charge 5 as a random “party” speaker, but will no longer recognise a network speaker for use in ‘stereo’ mode, which I used to use all the time with my iPhone 14. Also, keep getting JBL app messages to “reset” everything each time I try adding the second speaker in “party mode”. Very annoying! What was a great app is now clunky. Please fix JBL.
Review on the usage of this application. Truly appreciate how effective the functions are and also to multi connect on the other JBL Speakers.
0 ⭐️ app. Just down loaded the app and deleted ...... absolutely pointless does not do anything . Can’t turn it on from you phone , no EQ , all I does is tell me my charge 4 is charging hahaha pathetic JBL not even in the game compared to UEboom app if I could give 0 ⭐️‘s I would
Garbage. Bought 2 x flip 5 speakers to connect and play off the app in stereo. Hasn’t worked properly since bought and installed. Difficult to connect both speakers and then right or left intermittently disconnect and reconnect resulting in frustration as ruins the mood and flow. Hoping updates would fix but never do. Regret buying and has definitely turned me off purchasing any more JBL products.
Stopped working. This has been working fine for me up to three weeks ago. Stereo and partboost not working any more. Have tested both charge 5 and flip 5 and neither will pair but all work separately. JBL support not really of any help as according to them, the app doesn’t have a Stereo function which isn’t true. Think I’m off to Sonos unfortunately, which is a shame. I have 5 JBL speakers in my house and always had 4 paired until this.
Incredible Performance from the app. I had tested out the party-boost speaker pairing protocol and it was very easy, all the speakers will just sync up and find each other and they do so very quickly. Also, the Equaliser was also very good. It had so much options to pick from if you want to boost any frequencies. If you are looking for a speaker that could be supported by an app, JBL is way to go.
Sound issue. Every-time after update sound quality is gone, its not a speaker but the driver issues with the app or firmware of the speaker itself, mine is boombox 3, the signature bass and wide stage is gone now after samsung bought this quality is gone, same songs now sound totally different.
Marley, Chloe & Teddy.. Very happy with my portable JBL 6 and it has been with us everywhere and it’s coming along on our trip over to Canada and Alaska.
do not recommend. i have been trying for literal weeks trying to get this to work i have a JBL flip 2 and i cannot connect it apparently i don’t have a new enough model for the app,JBL if your reading this please make the so it can support all models
Connection issues. Sometimes it takes awhile for it to connect and I have to turn the speaker on and off and it takes awhile when it should just be turn on and connect but other than that pretty good it does its job
Flip 5. Great little sound machine. Easy to move around to get great sound anywhere.
Glad it exists, needs work. This app does need to exist, and to its credit, it does so. The issue is that I will be connected to my charge 5, PLAYING MUSIC, and when I open the app, it can’t seem to see the speaker. Yes, that same speaker that is currently connected to my phone, and actively playing music. JBL, fix this. It’s not acceptable. Do it now.
Great app easy to use and good features. Wish The jbl xtreme 4 and all the other speakers had more bass and where more balanced and clear though
Connection issues. I’ve never managed to connect to either of my job speakers despite following the connection guide and several troubleshooting procedures. Starting to regret buying a jbl speaker because its base sound is terrible without the app.
Review. Love the battery length and the volume !! A lovely piece of equipment that I’m glad I purchased Lightweight and compact
Good bluetooth speaker. Sound is so nice so clarity and also bass is so good highly recommended for all speaker lover’s
May have issues. The other day it didn’t want to turn on? It’s been ok since but will monitor and let you know
Pls make it full screen on iPads specifically the ipad air 4. The app works great with my charge 5 ,pulse 4s, flip 6 and Xtreme 3 but it’s only designed for iPhones so it’s not full screen on iPads. so jbl please design your app to work with ipads
JBL boombox 2. Great sound. A larger equilizer range would be handy. Also if the speaker could be turned on and off from the app. Also battery life indicator.
Would NOT recommend. I purchased two JBL speakers thinking the party boost connection feature meant I could have one speaker in a room and the other out in the common room however you can only use this feature through this app which is only available to iPhones and iPods! This means if I want to use my phone to call or watch something or a text comes through the music stops. This app would be great if it was compatible with desk top computers or iPads! considering the speakers are expensive and promotes the feature connecting multiple speakers, I would have thought the app would be compatible with more devices. It’s useless and disappointing
Waste of time. Bought two of this useless speakers and they just do not want to connect together as described. Followed all instructions, videos etc but it’s not working. App asks for update to a speaker and then fails 10 seconds into the download. Will return these useless speakers and delete the app after I leave this over rated 1 star feedback as 0 star is not available.
Cant connect the charge 3( older speaker) to the newer ones. I went and bought a flip 5 after the charge 3 and now I can’t connect both of them. Their advertisement says you can connect multiple devices but then this happens. I don’t understand the problems relating this app. It’s so easy to solve but jbl refuses to do so which really ticks me off. Work on it jbl or you won’t last much long in this industry
No ability to set default. It always changes back to party mode, rather than staying on stereo after I’ve set it. This is irritating as every time I open the app again, I also need to connect the speakers again. It’s clunky & slow.
Wow. I was apprehensive about spending big bucks on a portable speaker but it has been money well spent. The sound quality is great along with the design and functionality. This is my first purchase from JBL and also a portable speaker. Faultless 👍🤩🤩
Terrible app!. I bought two JBL Charge 5 speakers so I could connect in ‘Party Mode’ via the app. Not a chance…. Tried every conceivable sequence of starting them, connecting them, together or individually etc etc. NOTHING! I’ll be looking for different speakers next time around.
Great app for Go 4. I have a pair of the JBL Go 4’s and am happy to see that the App & speakers are receiving regular updates. It would be good if the EQ section was available in the Stereo pair section of the App ( it’s disabled once you select stereo pair for the GO 4) The JBL ‘Signature’ EQ is ok but tends to sound a bit boxy in the mids (500Hz-1Khz)
Good. I just want to be able to stereo my jbl charge 5 to another brand speaker thanks

Stéréo hard. Hard to connect speakers in true stereo if you have 2. It never happens right away.
This app never works. This app never works. Even after all the updates over the past months. The message is always the same. Please disconnect and reconnect
Fully recommend it. Excellent product, very reliable, great sound, strong connectivity without lags. I am very happy with my little speaker that sounds like a big subwoofer
Lack of functions volume cap /eq memory…. 1) There should be a function on your app to artificially cap with an imposed maximum volume! You know in case you need to watch volume levels for your neighbours! 2) The app should be able to memorize multiple custom eq settings! That’s just basic guys! 3) Maybe it’s just me but: I found it trying to implement my custom eq setting— coincided with the stereo setup… …And I think at that point too— I couldn’t verify my custom eq settings— once… in stereo setup and all! Anyway! I’m thrilled with the sound of these speakers… just the app could use some work—!
App Will Not Pair. Bluetooth connected to the speaker and music will play, but the app will not connect! Absolutely useless! I need to turn the speaker start up sound Off! But the app will not connect to the speaker! This needs an update! Apparently a common issue. Fix this! It happens on more than one speaker type. The app needs to be much better!
Issues connecting. My Charge 5 won’t connect to the app. I’ve deleted the app and downloaded it again, disconnected from my phone and paired it again, I come back to the same outcome. My Flip 6, however connects no issue. Please offer me a solution. Quick update: my flip 6 won’t connect either…
Excellent for our Retail store!. The owners of our workplace purchased a few JBL Go(s) to try on our roof top patio of their brewery. We use iPads to connect. It all worked so well with this App that they purchased more for our Storefront & Retail Space! The party feature is so easy to use. The learning curve the first couple of times is very small. Children can use this (probably faster than adults nowadays lol). Now our customers can enjoy excellent relaxing surround sound that JBL quality brings to both the patio (while enjoying their beer) OR when they relax and shop around our store. Hook up to your speakers (party mode), place them around, choose your favourite music streaming site/app, control volume from your device. Side note: the bosses let me borrow the speakers for my wedding and, combined with this app, my sister was able to handle the music so beautifully… we had the speakers placed on all sides of the room. It’s was amazing! Way to go JBL. JBL is definitely my #1 most trusted source now for sound and applications.
Terrible. Good luck trying to connect your product to the app. It’s terrible and hasn’t been updated in years
Excellent App!. "JBL Portable" is like "JBL PartyBox". We have "Playtime Boost" in it. I put my "JBL Clip 5" in it. Do you know JBL company has a new speaker? Do you know what's it's name? If you don't know, the name is "JBL Grip". It works with "JBL Portable". It also has "Stereo Group" in it.
Battery is not showing correctly. Extreme 4 is always showing 100 percentage battery.. it is not showing accurate one
JBL speakers 🔊. Excellent product, excellent sound quality, you definitely get what you pay 😃
Super buggy app. The app keeps asking me to disconnect the Bluetooth and then reconnect the app. It never works. I have an iPhone 17
Literally Useless. The logic of re-pairing is apparently on par with rocket science in 2025 after upgrading your phone - garbage just like JBLs wireless buds
Flip 7. The best
Bug. Beaucoup de problème lappli prend infini de temps pour dire que sa trouve pas le speaker charge 5 qui a toujours été trouver jusqu’à temps que JBL sorte le charge 6 arranger ça c’est poche votre affaire pour des speaker avec un aussi gros nom(j’ai une vidéo pour que vous puissiez comprendre)!
Won’t connect. Won’t connect to Flip 6. Garbage app. Keeps telling me to reconnect the device in settings. Tried everything including factory resetting.
App failed pairing. Ever since the last update the app wont complete pairing to my speaker. My phone connects to the Bluetooth fine, but the app will just cycle through the instructions, begin pairing, and then drop the pair and begin the instructions again? Help?
Annoyed. Can’t connect my speaker, have tried everything you can try to make the app work. I’ve used this app before with no issues and all of a sudden it doesn’t connect my device
Unable to adjust eq on xtreme 3. I can’t update my xtreme 3 to the latest version nor can I get eq adjustments on the app I’ve installed and uninstalled several times and still no difference is there an alternative way to update the speaker?
Great app. Great app for my pulse 5!! Love it! Please fix and bugs asap tho!
I have clip 5. I have a JBL clip five and it work awesome app!
Great but needs update. The application is great but it disconnects all the time from the bleutooth , so the sound it’s not the same you need to connect it every time so I’ll give it a 3 star
Garbage app. Trash
Seriously, no remote control??. At this price point, not having remote controls for your speaker(s) is unbelievable. I have had remote controls on speakers a quarter of the price. Get it together!
App can’t discover the speaker. Bluetooth speaker will pair with the phone and music will play but speaker cannot connect with the JBL Portable app in the phone. It’s frustrating. Can’t access and control the equalizer in the speaker. Very frustrating
Connection. Wish “Partyboost” and “Auracast” were compatible
JBL me encanta. Muy buena la aplicación es muy útil JBL la mejor marca en bajos profundo
Extreme 3 and boombox 3. I got two speakers my extreme 3 sometimes connects And my boom boom I haven’t been able to make it connect in long time why no work jbl fix app
Pair different speakers. If the option to pair different sizes of jbl speakers, this app would be wicked.
Good. Tiny bit laggy
need update. it works pretty good just needs adjusting the base settings and upgrades on the speakers anything else works pretty good
My comment. I don’t like how you can’t change anything in the app
Not working on flip 6. This aap not giving a comand to pair with jbl flip 6. Waste of time 😡
Won’t play stereo. Both Charge 5 are paired and the app shows stereo mode is on yet will not play both speakers. It will only play in one speaker.
Scanning. Sometimes the app takes long or doesn’t find my speaker.
Useless. It won’t fully connect to my charge 5. Bluetooth connects. The app recognizes the speaker but won’t actually connect in order to change the settings
Stopped Working. No longer connects to my JBL charge 5. Bluetooth connects but the app no longer works. Disappointing.
Autonomie. Ils disent que cet haut-parleur a une autonomie de 12h. C’est pas vrai. Maximum 3h à plein volume. Produits décevants
useless app. The app will stop connecting/pairing to the speaker after a while. Mine hasnt reconnected to the app in years.
Bad app. The company refuses to include slightly older models to the app forcing you to upgrade their product to get support / enhancement. I just bought a charge 2 and even though it’s new, it doesn’t get connected. The essential line also doesn’t get support. Gross business tactics. Won’t be supporting this company after this purchase.
App not connecting. The app won’t connect to Bluetooth anymore even after deleting and reconnecting Bluetooth. A shame as it was good before.
Doesn’t work. Won’t connect to a Boombox 3. App is useless
Unclear instructions. Claims to support unsupported speakers within the app and make you go through useless troubleshooting.
Disappointed/Not compatible. The speaker itself is decent but the app is not compatible with the newer iPhones. I had just bought the speaker only a few months before my new phone and once I got my new phone the app no longer worked. The customization was one of the main reasons I chose this over other speakers. Disappointed. Hopefully they update the app’s compatibility.
Garbage won’t pair to the speaker. App is completely useless and doesn’t connect to the speaker through the app only through regular Bluetooth, there’s no point even downloading it don’t waste you’re time
Useless. Trying to use the app with flip6. Followed the instruction without success. I’m using iPhone 16 with the latest software update.
No older model support. Have a JBL Clip 4, not supported :(
Pathetic. Too bad I cannot give it zero stars...This app is just useless....I have a JBL charge 5, I managed to connect once in two years of ownership. Great speaker but what's the benefit when you cannot use its own native app to tune it or check battery status. JBL please wake up and fix your stuff before customers migrate to other brands.
Needs improvement. You should be able to turn your JBL speaker on from your phone but this app doesn’t allow you to. Next to no eq options. This app doesn’t do anything for you
Charge 4 needs an update. The charge 3 gets an update but not charge 4

Cannot find JBL Flip 5. I wanted to use this app because I’d read it was a way to disable that awful, loud, obtrusive power on/off sound, but the app will not connect to my JBL Flip 5, no matter what I do. Reset speaker, reset phone, remove app, reinstall app, try it from another phone etc. My phone(s) have no problem connecting to my speaker, but this app simply will not find the speaker. You click on “app support” here and it takes you to the JBL website homepage. Such poor customer service.
Big Problems. This app has severe difficulties connecting to my speakers. I have 2 JBL Charge 5s and the app only connects about 60% of the time is use it. They suggest pausing music while trying to connect to speed up the process, but it barely works, if at all. When it does work, its a pretty good experience, with an intuitive layout as well as being very well designed. Overall, its a frustrating experience, but I love the speakers, so I just deal.
Doesn’t connect to my speaker. I like the app there’s just an issue now with the iOS 18 update that if you have to go to your Bluetooth settings to select your speaker the app won’t register you’re connected to your speaker. You have to disconnect and reconnect again after having the app open for it to register that you are connected to your speaker.
JBL part boost...fail?. The app fails to show the party boost “button” automatically. It takes too long to connect, furthermore if you come across a video or commercial, the party boost disconnects all but two speakers....upon resuming music, the additional speakers don’t connect back, or play music without intervention....for the amount of money my family spent on these speakers, we expected them to connect more easily. So, not cool. We are talking about entertainment speakers for public consumers, not aircraft electronics, come on JBL, make this work better and fix the Phone app.
JBL FLIP 6. This little speaker really puts out some clean sound. Bass is exceptional for its size! Highs & Mids are clean too. Really enjoying this JBL Speaker!!! Wish I had a second! You can link 2 together. Also has an App to help tune the speaker to your liking. Great Sound even at Lower Volumes! A Must Buy! Would Recommend to Anyone! You can’t go wrong!
Love the Speaker, Not the Software. I use my JBL flip 5 speaker often, but not this software. This software seems to do three things really well: 1) Pairing two + speakers for stereo sound or multi speaker “party” mode, 2) Updating the speaker’s firmware. 3) Collecting your data, like device use, location, and whatever else they Hoover up really well!. Otherwise, this app does nothing. No equalizer, no speaker options available, nothin. If you don’t have multiple JBL flip 5s, there’s no point to this software.
JBL Flip 6 is NOT connecting.. Hi have recently bought a JBL flip 6 and was excited to use it through your JBL portable app, but unfortunately the app is not discovering the product. I have try alot of other things like disconnecting and reconnecting rebooting etc and none of this worked. I even try a different device and same problem. This is an iPhone 11 pro device that i am currently using. Please help give feed back as soon as possible. A JBL loyal customer.
Needs an app update. Awesome speakers and I enjoy the update because you can adjust the way your speaker sounds but I wish they would add an option on the app where you could turn the speakers without manually turning it off. Besides that JBL speakers sound fantastic but it just needs that one small option on the app.
Stereo setting drops out. I notice that the stereo setting drops off after a few minutes. It helps to leave the app open with my phone unlocked, but it still reverts to mono/party mode eventually. When I reopen the app, it takes a few seconds to a few minutes to find the speakers again, even though it’s still playing. Terrible experience- why have stereo mode if it only works for a few minutes at a time? And why does the connection have such a short memory?
Here’s the problem in a short sentence….. Connection problems, turning off when trying to connect to app. In other words the app is basically useless when trying to connect the JBL Extreme to the app. Update: It’s still doing it, it won’t connect and it keeps turning off my speaker, please fix it, I’ve tried everything and it still doesn’t work. It will turn off when I try to connect it and it will automatically turns back on and it still won’t connect.
Won't Even Connect Soeakers. I have a JBL Charge 4 and a Flip 5, both speakers' firmware is completely up to date (the Flip 5 is brand new), yet the app can't seem to connect my Charge 4 to partyboost. I can connect the Flip 5 and the "finding nearby speakers" icon just sits there with the little "thinking" circle just spinning away. I’ve had the Charge 4 for about 6 mos and bought the Flip 5 solely for the ability to connect them. Highly disappointed...was really excited to use these. Will probably put them up on eBay now. 😕
Just do it!. Look, don’t even worry about it. This one is the Real Deal! Easily plays all day without issue. And I’m not talking about at low volume. Pro tip: Place it in the corner of the room. It seems to amplify the bass more. The overall sound is great. Download the app so that you can tune the highs and lows. Party on the Go!
Dropping connection. I found lately that your app disconnects from the speakers on a more frequent basis, and it means I have to turn the speakers off and back on again. Not acceptable. I have the JBL Flip6 and liked the product a lot, but lately it is more frustrating to stream music. I have two connected in stereo set up, and it is great when it works without disconnecting. I am beginning to regret having purchased the speakers, just because your app is acting up.
The speakers are great. The app is hot garbage.. Clunky ap. Why do I have to connect speakers every single time I use them? Why can't they detect my BT as soon as they're turned on, like every other BT device? Why is it necessary to activate party mode every single time I want to chain stereo? This is the reason I haven't bought my 80 year old father a second speaker. Practically requires a degree to operate a clunky, counterintuitive app. Five minutes of fumbling back and forth through moronic menus just to listen to music. Ridiculous.
speakers. love the speaker, i always want to use it. it would be easier sometimes to be able to turn it off from my phone tho, maybe theres a way to but i havent figured it out yet, but if there isnt maybe consider making that a thing JBL?
Flip 4 BT disconnects frequently. I received Flip 4 as a gift. I use it when I watch movies on my MacBook. It works fine most of the time but it will disconnect frequently (at least once a day if not more often) from my MacBook. It already has 4.0.0 firmware so I hope you guys are still updating the firmware to work out bugs. I also received a JBL BT mini earbuds and that works pretty well so I’m not here to bash JBL.
Features. Portable boom box 3 sounds good in my vehicle. However, it would be nice if the app had a built in ON and OFF Switch rather than having to reach to manually turn on and off even tough it does have an auto shut off feature that turns it off after a while. Developers please make some updates and then I will rate 5 stars. Also, the bass and treble need more tweaks.
Features not available. We bought a new JBL charge four with the intentions of being able to customize the base, sand sound, etc. just like it shows pictures for on the slide show of the App Store. However when I downloaded the app, my speaker connected to it and even offered a software update but I have zero controls to manage the speakers bass, mid, or treble like is advertised on the preview slides. Not sure if there is anything that JBL can do to help address this issue? Until then my rating stands.
Very basic app, lacks simple controls. I’m a long time Ultimate Ears BT speaker owner and for years users have been able to power their speaker on/off remotely, set alarms, adjust the speaker volume and EQ settings as well as pair it with other speakers all through the app. Some speakers even had wifi capability This JBL app doesn’t even do half of that. It’s only benefit is that it allows you to adjust the very limited EQ settings. The speaker sounds great, but the app is virtually useless.
Please Update, simply nonfunctional. This app was originally very useful and I had rarely had problems. Today, its hit or miss connecting my xtreme. When it does rarely connect, I get no options to do anything: just a picture of the speaker and a battery bar that doesn't move from 100%. It wasn’t like this before. Bose’s app has none of these problems amd has so much more functionality than connecting multiple speakers (which is such a pain with the app) including seeing and editing a list of connected devices, changing speaker settings, seeing the current firmware etc. Please fix these apparently very very common bugs in the app. It would also be nice if more functionality was added. It’s good that one app supports all/most speakers but it means nothing if you can’t even use the app. Tldr: app doesnt connect, no options to do anything when it rarely does connect, maybe add more functions.
Best small speaker ever made. I got jbl charge 5 I got flip 5 so I had to get the flip 6 with built in tweeter… these speakers sound great got great bass, highs!!! I have anker sound core got Marshall emberton , Sonos roam, Bose soundlink. Hands down them jbl speakers murdering all thee other ones hands down! I don’t have a Sponsor so I buy all my speakers with my own money, so if you want the best sound loudest speakers out there jbl is king
Does not connect. I’ve tried to connect the JBL Charge 4 at least 3 times. I’ve followed all the instructions to connect, but it won’t show up. It’s connected, but not showing up on the app. The reason I gave it 3 stars was because of the fact that the app is useless. What’s the point of making a app that doesn’t connect with your speaker when the app is a app thats meant to be connected to a speaker?
Manage Bluetooth connections. I have too many people connected to my speaker And if the only way to remove them is to reset my speaker every time, and the app can’t show me who’s connected or who I want to be automatically connected to, then I’m not satisfied. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for, but it would make a huge impact as far as making the app more useful.
Wish it had eq profiles but otherwise great. The app is great and works seamlessly and I like being able to adjust the bass, mid, and treble with the sliders but wish there was “profiles” for the eq like during the day I turn those UP but at night I gotta turn those way down
Doesn’t work. The app no longer recognizes either of my xtreme 2 speakers even though it used to work fine. Both speakers are on firmware 2.7.0.0 and were doing fine before. Even removing them from the phone Bluetooth list and readding them didn’t fix the problem. Why do we even have to use the app to put them in stereo mode. Why can’t it just be a long button press on the speaker link button if there’s only two of them connected in that mode?
JBL Bluetooth not working. I have been using the xtreme 3 for some months, and suddenly the Bluetooth is not showing among the available devices on my phone anymore, and i have tried to contact jbl , they thought me how to reset the unit and i did but didn’t work and i will have to return it back to them but i live in Nigeria and i find it difficult because i don’t know if they have any legit distributors here in Nigeria. I will be happy if you can help me
Update please. Honestly I won’t lie I liked the app, I’ve had the app for a while using my Jbl pulse 3, but now after an update whenever I turn on my Jbl I can change the color and it won’t pop up on the app. I tried hard resetting it and deleting the app to see if something would work but I’ve tried multiple times but nothing. It connects to Bluetooth and I can play music, but I can’t change the lights or anything on it. Please I really wish this can be fixed
Don’t make everything run through this trash app. It is insane that JBL is trying to run everything for the updates through this app. My firmware is out of date and I want to upgrade it. However, even though the speaker is paired with my phone and Bluetooth connected it won’t show in the app. So I can’t update it. Also, Bluetooth is inherently less stable than USB. There should be an option to update via usb. It is insane this isn’t an equal option. This makes no sense.
Unbelievably bare bones app. I love my change 4s. The app lets me switch from party mode to stereo which sounds way better. However it is just plain sad that an app from the renowned JBL is as basic and barebones as this app. For speaker control there needs to be some basic functions like powering the speaker in or off via the app. Most importantly we need an equalizer and I dont understand why a feature apple had in iTunes back in the early 2000s is missing from a 2023 app. It’s a scandal to be honest. I need to be able to control the bass and other frequencies to adjust for room dynamics or being outdoors. Inside a boomy room I need to reduce the heavy bass but can’t. Outside I need to increase the bass but I can’t. Jbl team: please add at minimum a 3 band EQ. If you want to go above and beyond give me a 10 band EQ. Thanks.
This app is pure garbage it never connects to my JBL Charge 5. This app is pure garbage it never connects to my JBL Charge 5, despite every update. It is beyond hit or miss and usually will not connect. most of the time to even have a prayer of connecting you have to launch the app before you turn the speaker on. But even that isn’t working now. Come on JBL, don’t put out an app just to put one out. It’s not like you guys haven’t been doing this for a while. This should work!
Acceptable most of the time. My review is rather negative because of the large number of times the ‘stereo group’ feature misfires on the app. I purchased two Charge 5 speakers in order to use them as a stereo pair with my iPhone. A surprisingly large number of times the pairing process goes awry, causing delay and (occasionally) very circuitous fixes in order to do what the product advertises it was designed to do. The speakers themselves are excellent, though.
I’d rate it 5 star if the following hurdles are resolved. So I’ve had a great experience using the Jbl portable app but the downside is that whenever I exit the app even if for just a minute it automatically closes and I’d have to reconnect the app each time and I feel like a great product like Jbl it should pack a better equalizer on the app, but that’s just my opinion, I do hope this issue is resolved.
Pleasantly Surprised. I had a speaker from another company. The battery died and wouldn't recharge. I bought this JBL on a whim and I like the tone and it is loud enough for my needs... its pretty loud for such a small package. At first use I did not like the tone and was sure I made a mistake in purchasing it until I cut out the MIDS. It sounds just right without the mids. I max the bass and treble and it sounds righteous. So far so good. I'll see what the future holds...
Please fix 0.1.8.8 bugs. Please fix the syncing connection for the speakers they both work fine , but as soon as I turn on party mode it starts to cut out through both speakers in stereo mode. I know things don’t happen right away but when this come to your attention, I’d appreciate it very much if you would resolve this issue because before I updated both speakers I didn’t have this problem.
Highly impressed!. Bought the jbl speaker (charge 5) when it was on sale with phone purchase. Sounds amazing and the battery life actually lasts. Waterproof and the best part is you can sync them for a surround sound. You won’t be disappointed!
EQ adjustments (Boombox 2). I always hoped and wished that jbl speakers had EQ adjustments because I’ll be able to customize the sound to my likings and I hope this feature doesn’t only stay with the Flip 6 and Xtreme 3 and I hope it comes to the Xtreme 2 and Boombox 2. This feature will automatically make JBL a top choice for most people.
Don’t waste your time. Downloaded the software to see what “features” would be unlocked. Thought the speaker (Flip6) is connected to my phone and playing the sound, the software cannot find the speaker. After a few tries of restarting etc I am going to delete this App. It’s a waste of storage. You’d think a large company could get a simple interface to connect. Lame. The speaker is great however. It would be nice to have sone bass/treble adjustments but this App won’t work.
Problem. I’ve tried every way possible to report a problem and it’s messing up because apple assumes I want a refund on a free app. Not the case at all lol I love your products and have had several, two that I use daily. However these two devices won’t connect to their respective apps. My Endurance Peak 2 headphones won’t connect to the headphone application you guys have and my Flip 3 won’t connect to this app either. What’s up with that.?
Do not upgrade. Ruined my JBL Go 3.. I made the mistake to upgrade. After I cannot longer use the speaker connected with a 3.5mm cable since it’s extremely annoying to talk. Once the other party stop talking for a few seconds ( around 3 sec) and start talking I cannot hear the first words. They added a “clever” eco mode so will silent the audio if the level under a threshold. It is starting with a delay that makes the conversation impossible. Can easy test listening some music and lower de volume from the phone. On lower levels the JBL will stop playing. Really. It is that bad. Contacted them some months ago. Did not helped. Device not under warranty. Well, they should not release new firmware, untested that will break the speaker. I see all the new JBL speakers are Bluetooth only. But the Bluetooth quality is poor compared to a cable connection. Why should I purchase JBL? No thanks.
Bad-ish. It’s okay except for the lack of features on this app especially considering this company is well known for good. the only good thing is the eq but still and also the JBL party pairing feature but that’s only 2 features that aren’t even that good. That’s my reason for 2 stars.
Charge 5. The December 2021 update for the JBL app does not work for my Charge 5. I downloaded the latest app update and the software for the Charge 5. While my app will connect with the speaker it tries to update the EQ but will not complete. I’ve tried everything. Turning the speaker off, reloading the app, disconnecting Bluetooth, reconnecting Bluetooth etc. No luck. Hopefully there’s an update to the app soon.
Boombox3. I love this speaker. I literally have stopped watching TV since I bought this product.. The quality is so good. The sound is so good. All I wanna do is listen to it and I am a rocker and and the base I just bought a product that’s all I can say I love it. I’ll buy another one tomorrow.
I wish this app would work. Love the lights so very much and the control we have to play with. I consider one a necessity for travel anywhere for add vibe ✨ Speakers hardly ever connect without spending lots of time configuring sync, and even when they do sync up-glitches and switches toggle and bounce between both places even when nearby. If they could automatically connect at the same time without needing to connect via app continually any time turned back on together would be amazing.
They should stick to analog speakers. Charge 4 speakers are acoustically good. The JBL Connect+ app is absolute rubbish. If you were hoping for a nice stereo experience with two identical charge 4 speakers, so sorry. Who ever developed the iphone app for JBL ought to be shamed. The app will take minutes, minutes! to reflect any changes you make. Pairing in stereo is an effort so frustrating you just give up and listen to your music in flat monophonic. Terrible interpretation and execution of the Bluetooth standard. Drop outs, mad static, and if you do get them to pair in stereo, on the next song they revert to mono AGAIN. Try better JBL.
Where is go 3?. I got this app because I have a go3 and I wanted to party with my charge 5, but then I realized the app doesn’t connect with go3, which is weird because it even has a charge 3, which came out a while ago. This is still a great app though, so it deserves 5 stars, but if you have a go3 just know that it’s not compatible.
Mostly Useless. I've loved the Flip 6 since I bought it (minus the completely exposed power port on a waterproof speaker), but the JBL app has always been nigh-useless. It has consistent issues finding the speaker when my iPhone is connected to it. It stops seeing the speaker on its own in the middle of being connected and EQ settings never stay. I wish this app was user friendly, but it mostly seems like the minimal effort so they can say they have an app. It seems no one that built this app uses their own products. It's insultingly bad.
Won’t show me the EQ settings for Charge 5. I just updated the app and was really excited that I can finally use EQ settings on my JBL Charge 5. Unfortunately it keeps asking me to reconnect the device even though it is already connected by my phone’s Bluetooth. I don’t know if it is my phone or the app but without the app the speaker works just fine and I can still play music. It’s just a shame I can’t use the EQ settings.
Jbl charge five and jbl 300. I own the jbl 300 and jbl charge five. Completely satisfied. The sound quality and battery life is excellent. Went boating and dropped the charge five in the lake three separate times-floated and still going strong. The app for the charge five is nice with battery life and eq adjustments. Planning on getting another charge five and link them. The charge five is a lot louder than I expected.
Charge 5 phone app is slow and functions poorly. Managing two or more speakers via party boost is slow, clunky, and unintuitive. If both speakers join via Bluetooth to the local phone intended to control them, Party Boost will not manage the second speaker until you go to settings, Bluetooth, and disconnect the second speaker, then go back to the app and try again. Very poor implementation. There are more things wrong with it but I’ll hold back
Please Add Some Features. Good app, speakers connect well. I have the Pulse 4 and Charge 5. Using them in party boost mode, it would be nice to be able to enter the dashboard for the Pulse 4 (this feature is missing). Additionally, the photo color match feature (which was heavily marketed) is missing from the dashboard for the Pulse 4. An equalizer for the Charge 5 would be nice as well. Please add these features.
