Sorry SoM. Secret of mana was a great game growing up and I don't have any problem supporting the port over by buying the app. However playability is a whole other thing. The button configuration menu only allowed me to change the direction button, not the action buttons. There was no difference between layout 1 and 2. When walking through doors my characters would often run back in the opposite direction (inside or outside) I was heading. This is because the pressure settings are too sensitive and when I put my thumb down I have to be really careful in the direction away from the entrance I am heading in. Finally was the character action settings, when set to avoid, the non controlled character just skips around the screen very glitchy like. When set to help controlling character it very lazily helps to attack a creature. Sometimes it will sometimes it just waits for awhile. And when the action is set to attack the character just goes and gets killed. So I love SoM and don't mind supporting the devs but the game for me isn't playable on the iPhone 7 plus.

Wonderful Game Hindered by Terrible Developer Support. This is my most-loved game from my childhood. I spent countless hours playing it on Super Nintendo. I was so happy it was ported to iOS. Unfortunately... Without ongoing support from the developer, the game becomes unplayable. That’s the state it’s in now. If the developer needs more revenue to fund ongoing development, OK. That’s understandable. But come on, don’t just leave it on the store when it doesn’t work. Give us a new version we can buy with new features and full support for modern expectations.

Music not working?. Okay, 2 minutes in on the iPhone 6s Plus and the music stopped working. Sound effects still did, but the score didn't. Easy fix, just save the game, close the app out completely, then restart it from the last save. I'm assuming this happened because I got a phone call while playing and it the phone overrode the program's music. Either way I saw people posting this issue, and this is what resolved it for me. 5 stars for nostalgia, only wish I had the old 3-player snes hook-up! 😄

Still one of the greats. A timeless entry into a now forgotten series. An epic story far removed from squares other snes titles. The highs are rivaled by deep tragedies which reminds us of the necessity of sacrifice. Easily one of the great masterpieces of the 16bit era. The ending is joyfully haunting and brings the story to a satisfying conclusion. Fantastic art and a simple yet interesting combat system punctuate the storytelling and endear the characters to the player. This game stands along with chrono trigger as a required experience for every serious and studious gamer. the legendary Nasir himself designed the ring menu. If you don't know Nasir, you don't know jRPG history. I'd love to see the ps1 legend of mana title ported to iOS, hint hint square.

Level 7 Magic. I love the game, I beat it several times as a kid on SNES. But... I have all of the orbs and getting ready to head to the mana fortress, but I cannot get my magic past level 7. Anyone else having this problem?

Perfect, no. Classic, yes. It is what is was, and it was a classic. Gameplay works, graphics are original. Could it be better? Should it be? Its fun to play through an old favorite. Nostalgia Is all I’m after here and it delivers.

Works again!. Fantastic! They finally patched the game! If you tried to delete and re-download then your game file will probably be deleted. Don't give a bad rating because of your mistake. If you waited patiently like I did then your file will be in tact and your game will be working now!

Remove and refund. A small notice on the description says it is unplayable on iOS 13. It shows only in a tiny portion of the screen when opened. Very poor business to still sell this app, including running it on a sale, knowing that it is broken on the latest iOS. They should refund anyone who has purchased it since iOS broke it and pull it from the store.

Help. The game currently isn’t working for my iPhone 11 pro max! Please help Fix this issue so I can enjoy the game again! I can’t click on anything once the game loads. The screen is really Tiny! Please fix this immediately! Thank you!

This is a great port but...... Please increase the frame rate of the game, it feels like it is running sub 25fps, secondly, please scale the resolution across all iOS devices, iCloud support is a must, if you do this they will come. 5 stars when these changes are made.

FIX THE SCREEN!. Just like everyone is stating, the screen is very tiny in the bottom left corner. You probably won’t fix it either judging by your terrible track record for updates. Seriously, ~3yrs since the last update! Your telling me your team is that great at porting that not a single bug exist? Freaking crazy. Don’t buy this game if you haven’t already.

Fix it please!!!!. I had this game a while back and decided to get it again. After the last update it’s now in a miniature screen and that’s fricking annoying. Hurry up and fix this. I’m almost finished with the game. And don’t say you know and see the other complaints about the screen being small as well. Fix it!!

Childhood game I never beat. I had this game when I was younger but was hard for me to really get to far. I'm excited to be able to play this game now as an adult, and bring back memories I've had as a child. Games plays well and smooth. I'm not used to mobile gaming but I'm sure I'll get better.

Great!. It is crazy that that I can barely remember where my keys are in the morning, but still know where everything in this game is 25 plus years later.

Launches in a tiny window. Unplayable. I loved this game when it was first released. I keep it on my phone so I can load it up and go back to playing a truly great game with no IAP or freemium nonsense. I was extremely disappointed to learn this game doesn’t play on my new iPhone 11 Pro Max. The developer says they are aware if it but a month later and I’m not seeing any fixes. It’s a shame.

Just as it was on SNES. Same old game with touch screen controls, sad to see a low rating on this game due to people expecting something else that never played it before or complaining about controls when they are better than most games. The game is great, if you played it on SNES you won’t be disappointed.

Tiny screen on iPhone X. I can scroll through options on the main screen by touching anywhere on my phone screen but the actual display of the game is a tiny rectangle on the lower left, making this game unplayable on newer devices. Don’t buy until they fix this. It’s a shame as this is one of my favorite games from the SNES era.

Broken. Square Enix shouldn’t sell a game that does not work. I saw that this game was on sale so I bought it. I used to love playing it when I was a kid. But it won’t even play. Apparently it’s not compatible with the latest operating system. So, basically I gave Square Enix $3.99 so they could have a better Christmas. What if car dealerships did this. Sold a car with no engine. I wonder if they give refunds? Needless to say, I won’t be buying anymore games from Square Enix again.

TOO BLURRY!. Trying to play this game gives me a headache because of the filter they used which makes it too blurry. I don’t know what they were thinking by doing that. It’s frustrating. I DO NOT recommend buying this game unless you don’t mind playing a blurry game.

Still no music. I first downloaded this game a few months ago, and it crashed on me and wouldn't reload when I updating my phone to iOS 9. I tried to download the app again, and my progress was deleted. As soon as this happened, I lost all music in the game, which has never returned, even having just deleted the app and downloaded again from the App Store today. Not cool, man.

Why so much hate?. Fun simple and low power drain I can play for hours and the simple aesthetics are a great play when in areas with no connection.

Fantastic port. A fantastic port of the original SNES classic. Updated graphics are crisper but not too different from the original’s. Controls work ok, with buttons to tap on-screen for character control and menus, but may be tricky for those with thick hands and smaller devices. Also includes a very nifty addition of allowing one to quick save 2 spells for fast casting.

1/8. The game use to run perfect and now it only opens up to about an 1/8 of the screen size maybe even less. Please fix it so I can play it again.

Extremely poor balance and design. Most boss attacks stun the recipient, preventing you from dodging. Dodging largely doesnt work, and aiming is often broken. Too few opportunities to rest combined with no innate health regen turns the game into a frustrating “dodge everything or die”. Additionally there are many boss attacks that are undodgeable and stun you with no clear way to mitigate or avoid this. If that’s the intended difficulty it needs to be toned down. If I’m missing important mechanics then it needs to be clearly communicated how to mitigate them and “git gud”. I have no idea how this crap became a classic. $4 down the drain. Remind me never to spend money on a Japanese-style ARPG again.

Unplayable from a fan of the original. I played through the original SNES game a dozen times. It is one of my favorite childhood games. However, I cannot recommend this port because of the broken party AI. In the original, your other characters moved and fought independent of your actions, except when sprinting, based on their Action Grid settings. In the port, your other characters move to you anytime you move. This leads combat to be a fairly single character experience, with your other characters constantly dying running back and forth between you and their target. It is an oversight that gives you a feeling that the people that ported the game never actually played the game. I could get use to the controls and shaky animation, but having to stand completely still so that your party will attack something is absurd.

All aboard the nostalgia express. If you have fond memories of this game from Super Nintendo. Pick up this remake. Only drawback is you can have your buddies play using the spare controller anymore. Otherwise 5/5.

This old app is got to go and start bringing in the new 3D one. As much it really pains me to rate just 1 star to this app game, but I can honestly say that I really don't like old script of this story very much. The graphics are too blurry as its making my head dizzy everywhere I go. I cannot even change directions while dashing, and the power meter just went down to 0% in the instant as I let go of the dash button. I get miffed by the time my charge strike got interrupted by enemy's attack easily, especially when I unleashed it. And the color of the world map is just too warm as sunset, which doesn't match the color of the blue sky. Since now that Trials of Mana is available on mobile, why not include Secret of Mana 3D port on mobile as well and replace this old version with it? Adventures of Mana, Secret of Mana, Trials of Mana, all three games in one collection would be a perfect 3D Mana Trilogy on mobile that way. Although I may have unfortunately bought this game before the time when 3D was released, but at least I can comment my review in hoping for the better replacement. There is no rush, but do think this over.

Middling for a Square Enix App. I’ve played several Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest games, plus Adventures of Mana on my iPhone. Most had customizable controls and quicksave. This app doesn’t. I’m used to moving the characters with my right thumb. This app uses the left thumb to move. Other than that, it’s a very similar port to what I played on SNES decades ago. The story is great. 3 stars for that reason. It’s just not very good of an app compared to the other games by the same company.

One glaring problem.... An overall quite fun game. I gad been wanting to play it for a while, and it works wonderfully as a mobile game. The reason I won’t go above 2 stars is that the app programmers committed what should be considered the cardinal sin: the app won’t let you listen to music or podcasts while playing. When I want to play a game on mobile, I often am listening to a podcast or I am killing time while waiting which often means listening to music. This game is useless for both since I am forced to pick between outside audio and the actual game. After doing some investigating, it sounds like this is a problem with all of their other remakes as well, so it looks like U will be staying away from Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior. :(

No longer works. It had been a while since I played this and it worked great before, but it appears that some iOS update since then decided to cause the screen to be tiny and unplayable on my 6S+. I’m very disappointed that it happened, and since it’s been 4 years since the last update it probably won’t be fixed any time soon, if ever.

Best money spent on iPhone. Great game all the way around. The story is amazing, the gameplay is great, nothing is too difficult or too easy, and on top of it the soundtrack is beyond perfect. I would recommend this game to anyone

Classic achieved. I had such a great experience playing one of my favorite SNES rpg’s. I can’t find games like this (considered a jrpg now that games are so advanced) this game is the perfect rpg to play from time to time or to grind and farm when you have the extra time to spare. Auto save feature can be very helpful or bite you in the but if you aren’t careful about you play. It’s all up to you though, I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute played and will probably play through again soon just because the mobile version lets you play at your whim. Worth the money. WORTH THE MONEY!! You will enjoy.

My favorite game of all time. I grew up playing this game on Super Nintendo and am so glad it is available on the iPhone. I am not a serious gamer and don’t play any other games, but for some reason this game is as nostalgic as anything else from my childhood. The music is so beautiful to me, I love finding all the elementals and casting their spells, and just going through the story. I don’t mind if I die and get really excited when I defeat a boss. This game ran well enough on my iPhone 6 and runs perfectly on my new iPhone 11 Pro. It only took a short while to get used to the touchscreen controls. Since I became used to it I couldn’t be happier that I can play this game anytime anywhere. I just play for 10-15 minutes at a time and take it all in. I’m in no rush to finish and just want to enjoy the nostalgia. Thank you for making this available on the iPhone!!!

Music Stopped Playing!. One of my favorite games from yesteryear, but all of a sudden the music stopped playing on my iPhone 6s. All the sound effects work fine, but the music will not play. I even deleted the game (along with all my progress -- c'mon Apple, add cloud support for this game!), but even when I downloaded the game again, the music stopped working after a few minutes. The music is the best part!! Please fix, Apple.

Greatest RPG ever, and amazing on iOS!. This game is awesome! Many of the complaints you see in the reviews have been fixed: the controls improved, graphics sharpened, and the music bug fixed. Get this game! It's great and still fun as ever to play!

And we're back!. Make no mistake, Secret of Mana is back from 4 years of development limbo. Surprisingly, It's the same as it ever was in 2D, but look, Ma, no bugs! I do have a quick suggestion for the team: stick the controls in the extra space you now have on the X and later so that it makes an intuitive game pad without mucking up the play field. Still, SoM stands as one of the best RPGs under $15 and comes highly recommended as a GOAT within the genre, even if the 3D port was kinda sickening for some. What's that? Haven't played? Well, what in blazes are you stumbling around for? Get you some today!

Non-Playable. This game is currently unplayable. I received my new iPhone 11 pro max which is running iOS 13.1.2 as of writing this and the game will open, but rather than encompass the screen or a majority of the screen it only displays in the bottom left corner a miniature screen of the whole game. Nothing I have done fixes this. I hope they fix it, but am not holding my breath as a lot of complaints y’all on deaf ears, but this is a fix that is needed to play the game at all. If it is not fixed they should remove it from the App Store so as to not rob people of money for a unplayable game. Until this is fixed don’t purchase this game. Upon being fixed I will edit my review.

Best game. This game was my favorite game was I was a kid, to replay it all was great. The touch screen controls were off putting at first but it's easy to get use too. I can't see anything wrong with this game aside from I want more.

Love this game. I love this game. I’m currently running through the old games I played with my son. We finished ff7 and are now onto secret of mana. Would of given 5 stars but because right now there is an issue with the game where it is just in the bottom corner and I feel they’re dragging there feet to fix this has me quite frustrated.

Please make playable on Apple TV. I have played Chrono Trigger On the Apple TV. This game is awesome in it’s own right as well. Could you make secret of mana playable on Apple TV as well.

Broken port. Don’t buy this!. Ever since the iOS has been updated to 13 this game is ~1/8 the size and only appears in the bottom left screen. Devs have known for months now but haven’t done a thing to fix this problem. Update One: Its been a couple months since my initial negative review. The problem still persists, though it started at THE LAUNCH OF iOS 13, and they had the gall to run a sale of this of game even though the game doesn’t work with iOS 13. Apple hasn’t pulled it from the store nor has SE, obviously. Horrible business practices, from both sides, in my opinion. I can basically feel the giant middle finger pressed against my face from both companies. Anyway, to wrap up. Save your money for a different game or until they fix this. Update Two: The fix for iOS 13 is here and well, the game works completely fine near as I can tell. I haven’t run into any bugs so far. It’s a wonderful game when working and I’d recommend picking it up if you’re a fan of it or have never played. The reason I won’t go higher in my rating is for other issues.

Great game, Needs QOL update. This game needs an update if only for how it hands sound. It won’t let you play any other audio (like podcasts) while you play TO THE POINT that it will mute other audio immediately after you play it (like with headphone controls. This is a gem that is being hidden by a technical problem. Please fix so more people will enjoy this classic!

Bugs must be fixed because this is awesome. They must have done some major work because I have not had any issues with music, sound effects, or configuration. I am a hard-core final fantasy gamer but I'm really loving this game on iPhone.

Low framerate. I loved this game on the SNES. I played and finished it back in 1993. This version has a major issue. The frame rate has been choppy for years even with more powerful phones. It feels like it is capped at 15 or 20 frames per second. Very choppy scrolling. Why not 60 fps like other games? This ruins it for me. I have the original and all ports of this game. This version is by far the worst way to play it.

Awesome... relived my childhood. I remember playing this 2 player on the snes with my brother... so freaking awesome! Note: if you're music cuts out (happens if your playing and you get a call) force close after saving and restart ! Problem solved.

5 Star Ransom Letter. Dear Square, Here are 3 stars, the rest will come upon delivery of a definitive game, cut scenes, improvements to movement animations, controls, ai, muli player, multiplayer online?, etc. Review, a few hours into it, the game feels a bit more quickly paced than I remember from when I played the original. Money comes quickly and exp is decent. Don’t feel like I grind as much as I did as a 13 year old kid. The game may literally have a faster pace which makes some animations look choppy on a iPhone 7. I think you can give this game love and then release secret of evermore. I’m assuming you believe this is potentially 5 star gaming, so maybe you’ll upgrade it. Be professional Square! You can do a better port. I’m not paid consulting fees, but I’ll accept a bargain here. For additional recommendations forward payment to this iTunes account and upgrade the game please.

Update fixed game!!!!. I bought a long time ago and the bug didn’t let me play it and now with the update I can ty!!!!!!!!

Weapon lvl. I love this game I've always been a fan the only flaw I'm having is my weapons will not level past skill one I do not know what is wrong if this gets fixed I will be more than happy to rate this 5 stars

Original was a classic.. This port a perfect tribute. After reading all the previous reviews I was hesitant to download this. I was a huge fan of the original and have fond memories playing through the story with a multi tap with my bro and sis - thus I didn't want that memory scarred by a dodgey cash grab port.. Having played about a quarter through the game now I can assure everyone the original magic is still alive here.. The controls work fine and just how other RPGs on the iPhone work. The story is timeless and this would smash the length and epicness of the clones that are cheaper and "better" as one person said. This game is a classic and for all the new comers that feel like it's a cheap home made game... Stick with it.. It's depth and characters rival that of any of the modern final fantasies and the graphics have held up well over the years. Release a patch with wifi multi player and I can die happy

Great game - multiplayer?. This game is awesome!! Brings back so many memories ... But.. Those memories were playing with a mate. I so want to give it 5 stars but I could only do that if there was multiplayer capabilities. Surely they can sort something out so it can be done over bluetooth or even wifi if it needs to be. Anyway the only other thing is that it can be annoying hitting the ring options when you are trying to push a direction - but - I can deal with that if there was multiplayer. Ok enough said

Needs to be universal app. Please update it to be universal instead of iPhone only app. I'm playing on iPad and it gets stretched out and has black borders and shows status bar of time, signal and battery life always. Otherwise I'm loving it. Will rate 5 stars if you make it universal. Love the touch interface makes game more streamlined for quick changing characters and items. Can also add 3 shortcut items on side. And has Auto save when you enter areas to avoid loss of data if battery dies or to avoid long back tracking if you die. If you're thinking of buying this its worth it. Graphics are updated to from their old sprites to new ones.

Hard to Fault. Originally for the SNES this version of SoM has slightly updated graphics and control system. The 'onscreen d-pad' is similar to other games and has 2 large buttons - run and attack. Run is barely needed since the character motion has been increased compared to the SNES version. The d-pad takes some getting used to (this is only my second game with the onscreen direction pad - my first was MegaMan2 which requires very precise input!!!) but is soon mastered - fortunately this is an RPG and not a plat-former so it is far more forgiving. In addition to those two buttons there are 4 quick keys - you can open any characters 'ring menu' and drag any item into one of these four slots - so open sprite, go to item ring and drag candy onto one of the four shortcut squares - then pressing this will cast candy on sprite. This is the same with magic - so you can put curewater on a slot ready at a moments notice. This also significantly speeds up 'power levelling' of spells since you don't need to go into the rings every time - you can drag 'gem missile' onto a shortcut square and spam it until levelling up. The music has also been faithfully recreated and is as good as the original and sounds amazing through a pair of decent head sets. Flammie (and lets face it - if your getting this surely you played or have heard of the original) flying is far easier - one user commented that there is no map - i can only assume they mean for dungeons because during the flying sections of the game the screen is complimented with a world map showing your location and heading. On that comment of "no maps" thats how things tended to be on the SNES and SoM is the same. Players of the game will remember most of the dungeons were extremely linear - its almost impossible to get lost (the place of darkness - your first point of call after sage joch is the only one I believe you could consider remotely difficult and thats only because of the backtracking if you forget to press the switch that activates the whip stalactite). The only negative is the difficulty - if you are patient and level up your weapons and magic and know what magic to use on a boss (either by trial and error or analyse magic) it becomes very easy. Levelling up gives you more than enough money so that the best equipment at every town is affordable, keeps your weapons at the highest proficiency and magic at its most potent. There is no real 'new' content which is a shame for the full price of $12. If you see it on special grab it, if not decide what the nostalgia is worth to you.

Wifi mutilplayer. 2nd: added support for gamepad, awesome Awsome port , it's the same as it is on SNES, no different, so I don't know what others are complaining about, maybe thy should get there snes out and play the original like i do every couple of months, oh that's right most of you don't have a snes with SoM anymore :p , anyways would love if it had wifi multiplayer plz add this in an update.

Almost what I wanted.... As a die hard mana and seiken 3 fan I found the controls very imprecise, all randomness has been removed from the hit system, and there are only 2 savegame slots! Don't know if I could tolerate playing like this till the Finish.

Broken, tiny image in corner of screen. Get it together and fix it. For the money you would imagine they would care enough to actually make it work...

A dream!!. So happy about this release!! This version is even better than the SNES one, which was my favourite favourite favourite childhood game! Autosave and the little dock are fantastic features. Win win win!!

Excellent Port. Such a great way to relive the classic. Upgraded sprites are nice and true to the original. Been playing on the iPad, and even though it stretches to fit the screen, it still looks great. I'm not a fan of touch screen controls but they definitely work nicely. The shortcuts down the right hand side are great!

Amazing game. Just a quick word to victoriousnow who reviewed this also, this game was originally released on the Super Nintendo in 1993, at a time when maps were hardly ever used in rpg games on the early consoles. The way you lambast this game like square enix wronged you personally because there was no map included is an utterly ridiculous premise. Especially considering this is essentially a port of the original. The truth about this game is that it Helped begin the legacy of amazing rpg games that many of us grew up with and have fond memories of. Memorable characters, a storyline that sticks with you and enjoyable combat are all present. If there is going to be any complaint made it has to do with getting used to navigating the touch screen as the control pad. Its a little awkward at first but you do get used to it. This is a highly recommended purchase, if only for you to see the past of the rpg genre of gaming, and how much modern day rpgs were influenced by them. Maybe we'll be lucky and Square Enix will release more of the old catalogue here too

Guys can we please have an update on the update problem. When is this update problem going to be fixed? It's been awhile now and we haven't heard anything, apart from the initial message. I know ur probably working hard to fix it, but an update would be appreciated

Okay but could have been better. A lot of this game is pretty much the same as the Nintendo SNES although in this iOS version, the controls are a little bit harder to get use to and the graphics aren't as good. Is it justifiable to pay the price for this game? It's definitely one of the classics in my opinion but having said that, this ported version is lacking in crispness which is why I think it's not worth the full price they are charging.

Decent but lacks polish. Nice graphics and music, however it lacks an engaging story and characters. The price seems a bit excessive and the controls are quite awkward.

Best game EVER. I have finished this game on SNES. I bought it today. BEST game. Harder then most Xbox 360/PS3 games. Excellent now it's on iPod. Need to move the controls to the top instead of the bottom to stop finger cramping.

iPhone 5 version. I love Secret of Mana, I just wish they added the content that was supposed to be on the CD version that never came out! If you can please enlarge screen for the iPhone 5+ :).

Text issues. Currently on an iphone 4 the game has trouble correctly displaying text. All writing looks like gibberish, making it impossible to play.

Awesome!!. Brilliant game, though not having access to a world map at the start and the computer chars being stupid are the only things wrong that I've found. Though one can live without access to a WM, the companions AIs are another thing entirely. The Action Grid setup is pointless when it comes to them, because although they all work, not all of them work effectively. Eg. The "Keep Your Distance" grid works, but companions should attack with ranged weapons from afar, not just run away. Also, they just sometimes stand there next to you and just look at you fighting, while they end up dying cause they're not moving or attacking. Aside from that, it's awesome!

No gamepad support. Needs gamepad support and multiplayer via gamepad support. Easiest implementation of multiplayer ever since it would work the same way the original game worked. One star until this fundamental support is added.

Better Controls Needed. Great reliving a game I played all that time ago. Only thing about it is the directional controls aren't the best. It's a bit hard to get through small passageways when the touchscreen joypad is playing up.

Stella gameplay yet needs more compatibility. easy to use controls and the added manual gives you no excuse to whinge about misunderstandings. however, it would be great if square enix would make an update that lets you play music and the game at the same time, such as in Chrono Trigger.

Better than before. Improved graphics, improved dialogue. Secret of Mana has frequently been labelled one of the best RPG's and it's now on the iPhone! A huge game with an interface that has been tweaked for a better gameplay experience on a portable device. Win.

Secrets. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found this game & jumped at the chance to grab it, I liked the small changes to graphics & enemies however I'm rather upset that it seems that the old secret passage ways have been blocked off or taken out

Great game, bad port.... I need to start by saying that this is one my favorite games of all time, and my friends and I took full advantage of being able to play with 3 players at a time. Unfortunately this version of the game has no multiplayer whatsoever to speak of, which could've easily been fixed by integrating this app with gamecenter. And I really don't get why this port of the game has such a bad Frame rate compared to the snes version. Overall, still a great game but is not a true reflection of how great it really is.

This is one of the best in the Square-Enix classic catalogue, and although I have enjoyed replaying the game thus-far on my iPhone, sadly missed is the cross-device save game support that IOS users have come to expect in the last year with games (such as Pocket Planes) that allow a simple, yet play-time counter saving option to switch back and forth between devices... The port is perfect, after almost 30 hours of bliss --- but I must say --- would EASILY rate this app 4 out of 5 if it supported the aforementioned CLOUD SAVING, and would be 5 out of 5 if you gave the AGING, CAREER MINDED, AND VERY BUSY DEMOGRAPHIC of fans of this classic exactly what they wanted... a VERSION UPDATE for both IPAD USERS AND IPHONE USERS that didn't require an 'X2' resize button... AND the inability to enjoy the game in a TIME MINDFUL convenient fashion, ACROSS BOTH DEVICES!! Without hesitation, heck, I'd even pay another $10 for said cross compatible iPad version --- if your company pulled this off and managed to allow the import of MY PRECIOUS 30 HOUR SAVE GAME FROM IPHONE TO IPAD VIA THE CLOUD! Keep up the good work, but please - this is my favourite title in the Square library... Sweet... when it’s working.. Edit: now it’s 2020 and the game isn’t working with iOS 13, it’s a tiny little window in the corner of the screen. Also, Apple TV support would be great, like Chrono Trigger. (2014) I loved it 17 years ago, and am enjoying this re-release. Now Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 6 (3us), and my iPhone will be good for a couple hundred hours.

Best Game Ever. This is by far the best game of all time. Awesome soundtrack, great controls and huge world. A must buy.

Great port, but controls need update.... The updated graphics are great and still keep the original style for the nostalgic purposes. The touch controls are limited as to how they work. How I would have liked it done is like this: Any swipe on the left side of the screen will move in that direction also shows the D-pad from the origin of where you started swiping allowing you to alter trajectory by adjusting your fingers angle from the D-pad center. Two finger swipe on the left side of the screen to sprint. Any swipe on the right side of the screen to attack, tap and hold to charge attack. Tap on the right side to interact with objects and NPCs, also attacks. Keep the original controls for the people it works for but add this control method in as an alternative. Also a few other changes that would be effective. Add more quick commands on the right side of the screen still only showing four quick commands at any time, swipe the column of quick commands to scroll through additional ones. Tap a character to show their menu wheel instead of just the character being played. Allow for action patterns to be placed in the quick commands.

Great game, great update. Awesome game.. I'm doing a second playthrough on mobile on my iPad mini. It runs very well and the controls & graphics are great. My first playthrough was on IPhone and I feel it is much better now for my IPad. I was a fan on SNES and I'm still an hardcore fan of this game. I really want to play Secret of Evermore now, I hope it gets ported eventually. I didn't play SoE as much (on SNES even though I purchased it back then) but there's some gameplay mechanics that I'm really craving for. I also own Chrono Trigger for IOS but I like SoM better and think SoE would also be interesting.

SoM. Secret of mana was awesome to play on the snes and now it is rejuvenated and better than ever on the iPod. One thing missing is the multiplayer aspect of the game because the computer players are too stupid ( no offense) and it is just awesome knowing that you are playing with a friend on a game as epic as this. I am used to the final fantasy so much that I run out of MP thinking there is was lots of magic left over.... Anyhow It would be pretty cool also if you got final fantasy 4,5 and 6 for the iPod. But ya, please, please add multiplayer so I can get the real secret of mana experience.

The best way to play this classic. An incredible port with numerous quality of life improvements and big fixes, a huge amount of language support, and all the great gameplay of the original. The sole issue I ever had with it was that most weapons no longer change their sprite as you upgrade them. Aside from that this version is even superior to the original snes!

If you're looking to test your patience.... This game should be priced way higher than it is, because it needs to come bundled with a complementary session in anger management. The controls are simply hateful, and will very nearly ruin this timeless classic for you. "What's that? You wanted to swing your sword? Nah, I think I'll just stand here and get beat up instead." It's also a little buggy (prepare yourself to have the ring menu frequently popping up randomly without your asking). If nothing else, if you found the original to be on the easy side, you'll be more challenged by this port. Unfortunately, you might not find the nature of the challenge to be very enjoyable.

Good game, bad control. The only things keeping this game from having 5 stars is the control. You going to need a while to get use to it. Still this is one great game that everyone need to play for the first or tenth times.

Good game but no psone cut scenes?. Great SNES port, but expect just that a port of the SNES version not the more updated version with cut scenes from the playstation. Controls are ok but take a while to get used to the item wheel and how to use that with touch. The game deserves 5 stars but for Square being lazy and not adding the cut scenes or really anything else new to the game.

Mixed results. Secret of Mana is a classic SNES action RPG that has needed a portable version for a long time, but this isn't quite ideal. The virtual control stick is feels awkward compared to the ones in other games I've played, and the hit detection is just as weird as it was on SNES. The graphics feel half finished. There are some new or improved effects (water reflections are the most prominent), but the vast majority of the character sprites and background tiles look like they were simply upscaled. It's as if they gave up on re-drawing the graphics part way through the process. In the end, it's still a good game, and $9 is a reasonable price, but it feels like a placeholder for the SNES version, not an improvement over it.

Pretty good. Joystick is better than I thought though I'd have preferred a d-pad still. Can't listen to your own music though the soundtrack more than makes up for that. App has multitasking. Controls do not obscure the action and fade away at moments that make sense, giving the game a native feel for the device it's on. Very nice port for the most part. Price is justified for what it is in terms of making it work well on the platform.

Controller Support is Key. This is a classic game that I always wanted to play on IOS, but I just couldn't get used to the virtual dpad. Without tactile buttons, I was lost. Recently I purchased an MFI controller, and now I'm loving the port. With a few small upgrades like auto-saving and labels on the Flammie-map, this version is even better than the original. I just needed a controller to get the full experience.

One of the worst games. I played it through. Rather, I painfully forced my way through it, and there's no other way for me to say this. This game is bloody awful and fails in every aspect, except music. What a waste of time and money.

Needs iCloud support. One of the best games ever made, but seriously, it's a 20 hour RPG. This game drastically needs iCloud saving support, it's a nightmare to lose hours of progress if my phone breaks or something else happens.

Worst quality game I've ever played on my iPhone.. Maybe this game was designed for an early Atari system-I don't know (no offense, Atari fans), but the graphics are terrible in this game. No longer works on new iPhones. The game currently comes up as a tiny box in the bottom left corner of the screen. Never had a problem until I upgraded from the 7 plus to the new 11 pro max.

Lost all my save data. iOS iCloud save feature doesn't work. Somehow all of my data was lost and I couldn't recover my save from iCloud. The controls are already difficult to use on iPhone 6plus.

Ruined my favorite game. The FPS is garbage. My snes is smoother than this. Totally unplayable, watching the intro stutter along, clipping, on the iPhone 12 Pro Max was aggravating, especially since it used to be amazing and I loved the updated graphics. Fix it please

For a game launched years ago it still loads. But it is very very tiny on the iPhone 11pro. It’s like a postage stamp. I’m just impressed it launched.

Great game- buggy version. I love this game but the iOS version makes it hard to enjoy. I can't equip most of my armor, I can't sell the old armor so saving for upgrades and upgrading the character is unnecessarily difficult.

BUYER BEWARE. This game only appears in the lower left-hand part of the screen and is too tiny to be functional. This is a colossal disappointment that should be either fixed or removed from the App Store altogether.

New updated iOS outdated game software.. Game used to be playable but after the latest update to the iOS it has become unplayable with the game only showing up in the very lower left of the phone screen while 90% of the rest of the phone is showing a black screen.

Completely unplayable. Game is bugged, after launching the title screen appears very small on the bottom left corner of the screen, with most of the screen black. Controls are unresponsive, completely unplayable. That said, this is my favorite game of all time, the way Square has fallen makes me very sad.

Went to install on my new iOS device and it loads up and in a tiny square and I am unable to select anything in main menu. Please update for iPhone XS.. Haven’t played in game in many years so I decided to download it again. Upon launching, I noticed the screen was super small and unplayable. Please update the app to make it compatible with newer iPhones.
