BCycle Comments & Reviews 2026
Docking issue. The app and service are great. Except for a slight issue. I unlocked a bike but the lock didn’t physically undock. The app didn’t allow me to unlock a different bike. It stated that I already had a bike out and needed to return the bike first. I tried calling customer service but to no avail. I was eventually able to undock a different bike but had to wait. Good thing I wasn’t in a rush. Other than that the app and service worked pretty seamless.
DOCKS/LOCKS/SYSTEM FAULTY. DONT USE THESE BIKES. Bikes work fine but it feels like i got scammed. I returned the bike i rented and expected to be charged for $7 each for 30 mins of usage. I used it for an hour and returned them(we borrowed two bikes). I made sure the bikes were locked but i dont think the docks recognized my return so i called customer service. Allie said she'll send someone to check if the bikes are there but who knows how long the person who to check will take. Someone might rent the bike before they get there. Now i see my card being charged for $70 for usage til after 5pm when i already left santa barbara before 2pm. I dont recommend using their service/product.
0 stars Please. The worst user experience I’ve ever seen. Paid $10 for two “memberships” (first of all what is a membership) and could only unlock 1 bike, the other refused. On another attempt with my girlfriends phone she unlocked a bike, couldn’t pull it out of the station, and was still charged. I then later proceeded to get an email that my bike wasn’t returned. There’s no clear indication from the app that i still had a bike rented. Immediately uninstalled this horrible app. I’d rather pay for Ubers all day then deal with the frustration of trying to use these bikes.
STOLE MY MONEY. there is an option to pay $37 for 7 days of riding with”NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES” except a $50 something charge for a security deposit that will be refunded into your account within 1-2 days. i made sure to read over the terms and conditions, because i had never tried anything like this before. i got my security deposit back within the 1-2 days, but after my 7 days expired, i was charged over $200 in “riding fees.” i called the BCycle support and they told me there was nothing they could do because i agreed to the terms and conditions. They said that the fees were charged because my “rides” were longer than 30 minutes. THIS WAS NOT EXPRESSED IN THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS!!! I AM VERY ANGRY AND WILL NOT BE USING BCYCLE AGAIN!!
Unusable in Santa Cruz. I am a student at UCSC who recently moved into downtown Santa Cruz and my recent experience with Bcycle has been horrid to say the least. Almost all the stations in downtown are wrapped in construction tape, leaving no stations to park a bike in. I checked out a bike and when I went to go park it 20 minutes later, it was impossible to find parking. I rode around for at least 30 minutes going to every station in a 10 minute bike ride from my original station and all were either under construction or already had a bike taking up the space. I eventually had to park it into an empty station that didn’t even work properly. The best part about using this service was being able to use the bikes to turn your 20 minute walk into a 5 minute ride and last year, it was great! It was rare to see a broken station but now they are everywhere. The only problem was that sometimes there wouldn’t be any bikes on campus. Super disappointed in getting an annual pass after my experience last year. It is faster and more reliable to walk around Santa Cruz instead of using these bikes. No idea how it was possible for so many stations to break in the span of the summer.
Payment Error. I really like B-bike and rented them several time. However, recently, whenever I try to use the app, it just shows renew membership error. I have tried to use different cards and reinstall the app, but still got the same error. Call the technical support but still cannot help to resolve the error, which is really disappointing.
Pathetic and total scam company. I would choose stronger words but can’t do that here. They charged me $8.70 and did not even allow me unlock the bike when I was standing next to the stand with full service. Both me and my wife lost money. Do not sign up. Apple should remove them from store if possible. I would give you a minus 5-star review. BTW, if you check their account deletion page it says at top you will be able to receive refunds at the top and at the bottom it says you won’t be able to receive refunds - well which one is it?
The best rental out there. My husband and I visited Santa Barbara last month and had so much to see in a very little amount of time. BCycle made it really easy and SO fun to see everything. Payment was easy, staff was really nice and helpful, and the bikes were incredibly simple to operate. The pedal assist really came in handy! Would very highly recommend BCycle, the best way to see Santa Barbara!!
They don’t care about their customers. Today I was using BCycle and their service to commute back to my house. As they conveniently have a docking station in my neighborhood. But due to demand the closest station was full. I would love to use any other close stations but they are all broken and unusable. At this time it was raining and I had been feeling under the weather feeling a cold coming. After calling customer support and asking for any suggestions for my situation all they could suggest is to tryin the morning, knowing that the rain is most likely to continue throughout the night and the continuing days. I have asked for the bike stations that are broken or unsnarl to be fixed two months ago. They have not taken my suggestion at all. As a customer from a year prior I am upset about the lack of care for their customers. Do not recommend.
Major problems over the weekend. Great idea—loved seeing a new city on e-bikes and saving money on cars. However, if your service is completely reliant on an app, the app should work, especially for something as vital as transportation. We were on vacation but what about those who use the bikes to get to work? Main issues: -Kiosks did not accurately reflect how many bikes were available. -The returned bike was not always ‘registered’ as returned, which meant I was either charged an overage fee or unable to check out a new bike. -The app would say a bike had been unlocked when it was not released from the drop station. -I was not always able to check out another bike immediately after returning one. I get the whole 60 minute time limit, but there should be clear expectations conveyed to customers who are planning to ride for longer, such as can’t unlock same bike, have to wait a certain amount of time before checking out a new bike, etc. We met several similarly frustrated customers. -Attempted to reach customer service by phone on several occasions but they were not consistently available. -Because of the above, my husband and I got stranded two days in a row. Our choices were to double up on the one available bike, walk, or pay nearly the cost of a monthly membership fee for a ride share back into town.
Lack of care for their customers. Agree with the last person UCSC student. There are so many broken docks around where I live and the company has not fixed it despite frequent requests sent in to repair it. On top of that, the app is gradually made worse by removal of useful features such as the battery level of the bicycle and the removal of the feature to report broken docks as well as removing the trip planner. It appears this company does not care about its customers that rely on their service and is only interested in making a quick buck on the gullible. Before, the app would open in short time but now it takes upwards of 10 seconds just to get to the map. And sometimes, if data is slow, it crashes the app, something the old version didn’t do. Because of their terrible communication with customers and gradual decline of the docks in the city as well as their service, I just can’t recommend anybody to use this. Not to mention all the app issues I mentioned above. They do not listen to their customers at all. They even have pending BBB complaints that go unanswered.
Bad experience. We rode these bikes once and the experience was okay. We went to ride them again for a second time a few days later, and when we tried to dock them it wouldn’t show on the app that that bike was available, and we couldn’t get it unlocked. we then had to “walk” to the next docking station, because at that next station it showed a bike was available. Once we got there it was doing the same thing. So we ended up paying the one ride that was $7.xx. Once we arrived to the first station we got the bikes from, we returned our bikes and ensured they “clicked” in for good connection and the apps said they were returned, but I check my email the day after, and it says my account is being charged because my bike was not returned.
Return is super easy; unlocking a bit clunky. Lots of stations being added so no issues of finding a bike to use in a very short distance walk. You’ll just have to learn the patten of which docks being very popular at what hours so you don’t have to try finding alternative docks to rent or return. Unlocking is a bit clunky and slow but return is super quick and easy. Gears are usually slipping so that means users are abusing the bikes (not intentionally but not understanding how to shift gears) I see big smiles on people who are riding these things. Pls add more docking stations so more people stop driving and ride a bike everywhere.
Unlocks Redbike. Before Redbike was a little hard to navigate, especially using the terminals and understanding pricing. Now that I can manage everything on my phone, unlock with the tap of a button, and monitor bike status at each station, I feel like I can confidently rely on bike rental. The monthly plan means I can park at a distant station and commute downtown for a fraction of the cost of parking. Awesome!
Needs work. Firstly, I really want to love this company, the concept is great! Unfortunately the app works about 60% of the time, most of the time it is incorrect; either with showing bikes available or showing parking available, both incorrect. Most of the time when I go to rent a bike, I look on the app to see how many bikes are available at the docks near me, I walk to a dock thinking that I will be able to get a bike, only to get there and find that either- there are less bikes than the app stated, or there are bikes under maintenance, the app will literally only update once I reach the dock. I try again…..hoping the same thing won’t happen, it often does OR someone else beats me to the dock in the 5-7 min it takes to walk to the next closest dock. It usually takes 20-30 min to actually find a bike to rent. They need a way to offer a reservation for at least a 10 min window. It is also very annoying when I look on the app to see where I can park my bike to return it and I get there and find that the dock has no space. Not ideal, very frustrating. I really want to give this company a chance as I love the concept, but I have had a monthly pass for 2 months now and the above issues have come up time & time again. I have contacted Customer Service (today at 7:38pm) and they don’t seem to care in the slightest. If things don’t change in the next 30 days I will definitely be cancelling my membership, it is not worth the frustration. I’d rather give my $$ to Uber or Lyft.
Errors Abound. I downloaded this app to use while visiting my sister in Nashville. Bought two single use rides for us both and was able to successfully check out one bike. When checking out the second, the app would alternate between errors stating that I did not have the ability to check out another bike and stating that I was able to check out up to 4 bikes using my one “membership” but that I needed to purchase another single use ticket, which I could not do. We tried to create another account, which could not check out any bikes because of “ERROR” messages. We then tried the physical stall to check out a bike which also only gave an “ERROR” message. So ultimately we could not even access a bike to use.
Mid service but convenient sometimes. They refresh bikes, yet I feel thier analysists are slacking so much on WHERE bikes need to be refereshed. There are often no bikes or no where to put your bike it is a very frustrating experience considering that bcycle seems to often fail at adjusting service as needed. Along with that they will just remove entire stations that you use with no notice. They are ok about giving refunds when inconveniences happen but it doesn’t make up for the constant technical problems with thier service. I feel a basic data analyst could figure out how to make this better. Really makes u wonder who’s running this…
Overcharged Me $75. The app didn’t register that the bike was returned when it actually was. I got charged for 2 extra days of use for the bike because of this. I was with a large party of 15 and it happened to every single one of them as well after our bike ride. I eventually got my my money back, but this was never a problem for me with Citi Bike, Bird, or Lime. They need to implement a system where you can not use another bike until your bike is docked and they need to notify you when you’re away from your bike that “it hasn’t been returned properly” so people don’t go back home to another city while being charged. They also should make you take a picture right then and there like Lime to confirm you docked it every time. I personally will never use this app again and will walk over biking if this is my only option in another city.
Frustrating. I have been using BCycle less than a month so I will share my opinion.. I have the monthly pass, and have used both that and daily pass’s in the past. The bikes are somewhat unreliable as I have found some of them will display a charge when in fact they cut off mid-ride. Often times the bikes work. I have also encountered issues with the charging stations where the stations simply won’t release the bikes forcing me to change my plans somewhat as you have to walk station to station. I have also experienced a rude weekend customer service agent some weeks ago who was incredibly inpatient with me on the phone as I was trying to figure out why the station at mansion inn would not release bikes. I left that conversation being encouraged that I can also communicate with text instead of calling. The situation was frustrating as it was my first time using the product. Unfortunately there is only one bike ride sharing company in Madison so you are stuck with them. They have a long way to go and they may never get their as there is no incentive to change due to a lack of competition.
Each city is separate entity. I travel quite a bit for work. I really enjoy exploring a city by bike. This app isn’t great for going from city to city. Even though they all use this app and they will tell you how many cities they are in, each city is a separate entity. Each requires a separate log in and pass purchase. And the app doesn’t make it easy to do that. When I called the customer service to find out how to log in for the city I am currently visiting, they couldn’t tell me how to do it. To be clear, I don’t expect to be able to buy a pass in city A then use it in city B. But they need to make it easier to purchase a pass in each city without going through all of the steps to set up an account in each city. Once I set up an account with BCycle, I should just be able to purchase a pass in any city they serve in one or two clicks.
Totally annoying.. I got this app to rent bikes for myself and my wife in Boulder. Upfront they want you to make an account which I did but then it deleted all of my information. I tried to sign in again and it consistently said invalid name or password. I went through the laborious process of registering and same thing. I tried ‘ forgot password ‘ and it did not send me a link. I decided to give it one more try and it worked but it mis- represented the number of bicycles available at a station. Somebody returned a bike so now there were two but it didn’t tell me that one had zero charge which I only discovered after I had already paid and unlocked the bike. End to end this was a pretty terrible experience with the app and the service.
A shame. Great idea and should be a super easy platform to deploy but has been made unnecessarily complex and not user friendly. The pass system is ridiculous. Why can’t it be pay per use? Common technology in other major international cities. Plus, there is no mention that the electric ones are charged extra, even if the batteries are dead and you can’t find info anywhere on how to charge or replace the battery, and the extra charge comes in a day later. I’d be happy to pay the extra if i was forewarned about the extra charge and indeed got an electric bike that worked, but since the battery was dead and i rode it as a regular bike for a short 20 min, a $10+ charge is a total ripoff.
Doesn’t appear to want customers. My first try with this bike share would’ve been a win except for several things the company could do to at least appear to be customer friendly. The first of which was location drop off choices were far from the place I started and returning the bike to a dock was more trouble than renting the bike was worth and I needed transportation after returning it to get back to where I wanted to go in the first place. The second push-away were totally hidden charges. One bike ride less than a mile charged me a total of over $20 when it appeared to be a $5 charge for one ride. I couldn’t even delete my account after that first try out because the app told me I owed more on the bike. The energy and time and money I put into my first ride far exceeded the benefits, and I have no desire to ever use it again. Public transport or walking is far more desirable and helpful for my needs. I’d advise the company to allow users to feel more provided for and valued instead of it going for the tourist pocketbooks.
Fun, but only trust phone map, not sign at site. We used the bikes twice here in Fort Lauderdale and they were in good condition and fun. However, due to misidentification of the site on their sign, I unlocked a bike at another site, and I was unable to use the one I’d chosen in front of me. upon double checking, I saw that the site I was at was identified as a different number from what the phone app (which was correct) indicated. I then initiated another rental with the phone app location and was successful. I was later billed for $50 for a rental that I didn’t use. Fortunately, my credit union fraud alert caught it.
Forgets your account / Bikes Not Charged. This was our first time using this. My recommendation is used Uber bikes from now on. We signed in did multiple multiple confirmation that we were legit. Started to run a bike, but the bikes at the stand we’re all on zero charge. So we went to the next set of bikes about half mile away. Only to find that the Apple would not recognize the password. I have a password program so I did not forget my password. Didn’t matter how often I tried to reset the password, I never got any emails never got any confirmations. It was a waste of time. This obviously is a junkie system which nobody really cares about. So don’t waste your time as I said, go with Uber instead for your bikes.
Loving This. We are enjoying seeing San Antonio on these bikes. They are a fun way to see the city and get off the beaten path. Will definitely do again and will see what other cities have this as an option from now on! One thing with the app though, a better you are here so you can see where you are and where you are going would be helpful.
Phone Support is terrible. I ran into a problem with my payment. I heard there are a lot of issues with payments, and when I tried calling for help, they just hung up on me because they couldn’t assist. I called several times, and each time, I got hung up on. But when I reached out through email, they actually responded and sorted out the payment on their end. I don’t get what the deal is, but the phone support is just awful. If it’s going to be this bad, they should really just get rid of it.
Scam. Ive on 2 separate occasions paid far more then the pass has shown. I bought the 3 dollar pass to go check out some stuff and figured 3 dollars was something I could afford atm. Not even an hour passed and I get charged 22$. I kinda figured oh must be a sign up fee??? Let my day go and a few weeks passed. Used the 3$ pass again. Thinking its gonna be as advertised 3$. Once again i get a hidden fee of 22$, no way to reverse the charge and support basically said “if your unhappy with this then just don’t buy the bikes”, like golly gee willikers really??? I wouldn’t of if i knew i was getting scammed. Anyways good idea terrible business model. Would not recommend unless you got cash to burn.
I don’t even know how to title this. I don’t know where to start with this god forsaken app. It is NEVER up to date, and extremely inaccurate. There are times where it says there are 0 bikes and every single slot has a bike in it. There are times when it says there are bikes when there are NONE. The amount of times I have returned my bike only to be told that my bike was never returned is NUTS. Also, the bikes are often broken and turn off every few seconds. Or the chain doesnt work. I would give this app a 0, but there are 2 (2) saving graces. The first one is that when the app actually works, it’s amazing. So convenient. The second is customer service. They are always so helpful and understanding. Overall, unreliable at best and downright horrible at worst. The customer service is great tho.
App constantly crashes. Barely works. When it finally didn't crash for a minute it took my money and wouldn't unlock the bike. Customer service refunded the funds (in 5-7 days). But I couldn't get a bike. I've used bike shares all around the world, this really shouldn't be so hard. Total fail. Edit : tried it again today because I really need a bike. And it actually worked. Twice! The app stopped crashing long enough to let me take a ride. The bike was great.
Really want to like this but can’t. I’ve been using Bcycle for nearly 9 years, and I have to say, the app and service have been consistently disappointing. Despite all this time, the app remains a mess and hasn't become any easier to use. The user interface is terrible and feels very unfriendly. Both the app and the service are riddled with more issues than functional features. While you can eventually reach your destination, it won't be an enjoyable experience, and you'll likely end up paying more than expected. If you absolutely need a bike, Bcycle might get you where you need to go. However, I'd honestly recommend just walking instead. It almost seemed easier and smoother back then, but now, it's impossible to love these bikes with all the frustration involved.
Super fun but needs some help. My husband and I just visited Austin and used these bikes and walking almost exclusively while in the city. Great idea, great way to see the city, lots of convenient docking sites. The reason for three stars… bikes need more regular maintenance checks, as quite a few were damaged or missing batteries. The biggest problem is that while there are often e-bikes available, they are never charged. You find one to none that are charged and ready to ride at each docking station. We noticed the solar panels, but if that alone is used to charge them, then they are not able to charge overnight or on overcast days. We would stop at each dock along our route to dock to avoid additional charges and also to “upgrade “ our bikes to charged ones if possible. You can just peddle these bikes but they’re not great for that and you would be better off renting a non e-bicycle elsewhere. Also, on one occasion we tried to unlock a fully charged bike but the app didn’t show that it was docked so we couldn’t get it. Anyhow, if you could fix the charging issues then this would be an almost perfect win.
It’s ok. The app works fine but I feel I have to toggle through too much to figure things out. Put info like past rides/statements, current ride time and how to recheck out a bike in the menu or on landing page of app. I have to agree with many others on here that I HATE HATE HATE that I have to hunt down a dock station every hour to avoid fees. The trails are extensive here in Fort Worth and this is a hassle that is making me consider just buying a bike instead of incurring fees everyday. Instead of telling us to contact our local office, why don’t you just change the business model as people are requesting? One hour isn’t long enough!! We should be able to just extend our ride by one hour increments in the app FEE FREE without having to re dock. That would make the most sense.
BEWARE!!!!. Extremely expensive. Waste of money. Bikes are in horrible condition. All of them are broke or completely shut off on you while riding them. Spent a ton of money docking/undocking bikes to find one that is in good working condition and wasted a lot of money in the process due to each bike being undocked resulting in a charge on your credit card. Called the company and all they said was we’ll inform the correct department that bikes in the area need repairs. No refunds, no trying to keep a customer. Just sorry to hear, we’ll let someone know. I’ll never spend another penny on this company.
Beware. This company overcharged two people from my group yesterday. One of them was accused of “vandalizing” an already broken bike dock and was subsequently charged 105 for a two hour bike ride (that should only be $30)that they refused to refund to her. Another was using their card and the app wouldn’t accept it so another person from our group had to buy a second pass for them to ride. And somehow their original card was charged the $15 for their bike ride they never got. This company has refused to acknowledge this was an issue on their part, and has refused to refund any money to those they overcharged in the group. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, because they made it very clear they are scammers who do not care about having integrity or responsibility in their business model or for their customers.
Checking in every hour when paying for the whole day is unrealistic. I love this idea but if I am paying $16 for a 24 hour period I expect to be allowed to use the bike without having to dock it every hour or be fined $5 for ever hour the bike is not docked, and that is on top of the $16 to use the bike for a 24 hour period. … If I am riding on the trail next to the bike station I have to ride for 30 mins ( or less to insure I am back on time) and then turn back around to dock the bike before continuing my ride. I would never make it past that 30-minute mark. If I pay for the day I want to enjoy my ride without having to worry about finding a dock every hour.
Love BCycle. I’ve been using bcycle around town for the last year. For the most part, it has been an amazing experience. I could always ask for more features (exporting my trips more easily), and I wish check-outs were available for longer than 1 hour, BUT love the service, and the app consistently works just as it should! Thank you
Riders Beware. When you sign up, your account will be automatically set to “auto renew”. If you don’t turn that o off when you first sign up, it’s difficult to get back to turn it off. Very bad behavior from the service. Also, it’s possible to unlock more than one bike, but they don’t tell you about this feature until after you have signed up for an account and unlocked a bike, at which point there’s an option to unlock additional bikes. In our case, we had already created multiple monthly accounts, which charged each one an automatic $30. So BCycle got a lot more money than if we had just used one account to unlock the extra bikes for my family. I don’t like the way BCycle does business. So riders beware.
Malfunction. On two occasions I would take bike out “successfully” and it would read ERROR in RED. Yesterday… it did that again and I tried re doing it.. and after 3 FAILED attempts of the bike getting unlocked but showing as “failed attempt”, I tried being correct and putting it back in so it is on record of what bike I took out… it told me I was over my limit!!! Then, my friend tried paying for me EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A MEMBERSHIP. And guess what? It took her money, but didn’t let me take a bike out so she needs her money back for sure. This app needs an update and I don’t need a limit for something I paid for as a member, especially when it’s the app’s fault. Please fix. I DIDN’T even get to ride! I couldn’t even call customer service because it was 6 pm. And then I’ve sent emails. Hopefully this gets resolved… but I’m frustrated as I did not get my workout in. AND it took my friends money. I gave this 5 stars but I’m taking it down to 3 as it is taking money and not providing the service I paid for.
B cycle never loads refreshes or is charged. B-Cycle is easily one of the most frustrating services I’ve ever tried to use. The app barely loads half the time, and when it does, it’s painfully slow and glitchy. Trying to unlock a bike feels like a gamble—you’re never sure if it’s actually going to work or just freeze and force you to restart everything. And even if you do manage to get a bike unlocked, good luck finding one that’s actually usable. The majority of bikes are either dead or so low on charge that you won’t make it more than a few minutes before the assist cuts out. What’s the point of an electric bike system if the bikes aren’t charged? The whole experience feels unreliable and poorly maintained. Between the broken app, unresponsive stations, and constantly uncharged bikes, it’s more hassle than it’s worth. Honestly, you’re better off walking than wasting time trying to get this system to work.
Annual user, expect frequent problems. I bought a summer pass 2 years in a row. This is not an exaggeration, around 30% of the time I try to use these bikes or the app I encounter a problem. That’s 3 out of every 10 uses literally. Anything from 1) the rack physically having bikes but none are able to be checked out 2) renting a charged bike but it shuts off while riding, which means you have to pedal against heavy resistance until the next station 3) parking a bike properly but it doesn’t register, which means you get charged for extra time & have to call/text customer service to sort it out 4) trying to park a bike at a completely full rack so you have to ride to the next available station 5) the app not loading or refreshing despite all typical troubleshooting methods. Just think, what other product or service do you willingly pay for with a 30% fail rate? The times that it works, it’s as convenient as it gets. I really can’t overemphasize how much of a game changer it can be in a city. But it’s really hard to ignore how frequently I deal with these problems and I really wish the whole system was developed/managed/maintained/updated better so the experience could be improved.
Double charges you with crap excuses. Got the day pass for I think 7 dollars. What they don’t make known(or it must be in tiny print somewhere that no one really sees) is that you have to bring your bike back and dock it every 30 minutes in order to not be charged extra. I was at a park/ lake with only the one dock. So I could only go 15 minutes away and have to turn back just to re-dock my bike every 30 minutes. I didn’t know and If I had I would have never rented the bike because that’s pretty ridiculous. I called and asked for the rationale behind the rule. And was told that the person I was talking to, didn’t know and I would have to wait for a call back from management. They never called me back. And every time I called I would get the same tech who had no answers. Charged me an extra 8 dollars. I had the bike for a couple of hours so it would have been half the cost if I hadn’t have gotten the day pass and just did the hourly one. Won’t rent again.
Ok, but needs some work. The only real good thing about this app is you can use it, but there are a lot of problems. I think part of it is that we as app users really are the customer. The customer is the bike rental service, so this app/service is probably either the cheapest or the best available which leads to a poor experience. - I’m constantly logged out of the app. This is the worst when I don’t have time to lookup my password and login before getting a bike. - map doesn’t zoom to an appropriate level when I launch the app. It has my location and oftentimes I’m right next to a station, why not zoom in closer? I get a bike from the same location every time so they could store that too and make that the default as a fallback. - App is constantly wrong about the number and types of bikes available at stations. I’ve seen it be off by just a couple of bikes, to the app saying zero bikes available when the rack is full! As is I have to spend several seconds panning and zooming to find the station I’m next to. - there is an option to list the bike stations, but it’s buried in a hamburger menu so it’s difficult to use. It would be great if it were a first class citizen with the map (e.g Expedia, Airbnb, Turo all do this well). If they had “favorites” I might be able to check out a bike with just a few taps! - support is lacking. Once or twice a week I get a janky bike (bad brakes, loud gears, won’t shift) and I’m happy to report it, but its a lot of effort. This should really be a core feature of the app to have a built in mechanism for reporting problems with the bike you just rode. There is a support option, but it takes me out of the app and onto my bike service website. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
Awesome and affordable. This was a fantastic way to get around the city. We tried both the e-bikes and traditional. I preferred the traditional because I wanted a little challenge. Super easy to ride though. Some of the bikes didn’t ride as well as others but you can just swap them out at the next bike station. We had so much fun and some exercise to boot! The best $9 I’ve spent on this trip to SLC!
Quick way to get around. It’s an easy way to get around. If you’re downtown, they need to add more docking stations and bikes along the strip and possibly near gyms for the locals. I would use the service a lot more because it’s more reliable than the bus. Unfortunately there’s not too many docking stations near me. That was the only reason I gabe it a 4 plus they should give you more time. 30 minutes isn’t enough.
Don’t rent or give them your credit card information. I feel compelled to share my exceedingly negative experience with Santa Cruz BCycle. As a customer, I have been extremely disappointed with the lack of transparency in their billing system and usage charges. Despite their claims of straightforward and fair pricing, I've found their billing structure to be anything but. The complexity of their billing system appears designed to be confusing and deceptive, making it nearly impossible to accurately predict your bill. I was charged five times what I expected on several occasions. There's a distinct lack of clarity when it comes to explaining these discrepancies. The customer service response has been unsatisfactory, providing no meaningful solutions or reassurances that such issues won't recur. To anyone considering Santa Cruz for their services, I strongly urge caution. Based on my experience, I would recommend staying far away. Otherwise, be prepared for inexplicably high bills that far exceed your initial expectations. One star is too generous for a company that falls so short in honesty and transparency. I'd give them zero if it was an option.
Fence e bike. We have ridden three times downtown and each time we pick up a bike one of the seats will not lock and twists while you ride. Sometimes they show fully charged until but when you arrive you see they are not. The amount of bikes available is usually correct and they are fun to ride and easy to rent and return. Enjoy our city. It is a beautiful place to live, work and play.
If docks are full, you’re screwed.. If you come to a dock station that is full, you’re screwed. In order to stop a ride, you must have your bike in a dock, or else you’ll get charged. If you come to a docking station that is full, BCycle wants you to find the next nearest docking station, which is typically at least 0.5 miles away, meaning you’ll have to ride back a half mile to the station, dock your bike, and then walk all the way back to your original destination, meaning you wasted about a half hour of your life and are now late to your event all because BCycle doesn’t know how to properly create its stations. It’s ridiculous that they don’t just have an “end ride” option, allowing you to leave your bike anywhere, where it can be used by the next rider, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER BIKE/SCOOTER SHARE APP IN EXISTENCE. This service has great potential, but this is a fatal flaw that must be fixed.
A couple suggestions. I used the app for the first time in Nashville over the last two days. I’ll leave the comments on the bikes conditions elsewhere but with respect to the app I’d like to suggest a couple things that could be implemented. 1. When locating a bike dock it would be useful to have a link to Google maps or even directions within the app. I had to walk to another dock after finding bikes with zero charge. 2. When locating a bike perhaps it could report not only the number of bikes but current charge levels too. 3. It would be REALLY useful if the app could report how many minutes left on a pass. Say, a notification at 10min and 5mins so I could return the bike rather than having anxiety over going into the per minute rate when far from a dock but not far enough to warrant another pass that I won’t be able to finish.
Great bikes, would be better with a couple of enhancements. Pros: Easy to use, not too heavy, well priced especially for visitors, and app pretty simple to figure out. Cons: need a phone holder for following directions AND an enclosed basket for water, hotel keys, wallet, etc. Cannot see what time I checked out so was unclear if I returned on time. Could use a dummy proof map to locate trails near downtown Lincoln. My Google map failed big time and without phone holder was trying to navigate and steer with a phone in one hand.

Joke. If I am from Canada, I cannot rent a bike because there is no possibility to put my postal code for billing ...
Probably not what you want to do. No real assistance from the electric motor bike. Seem to grind gears in four different bikes. Charges appear on credit card for no reason supposedly written in contract. Was not impressed. would not use again.
Biking Boulder. Loved the BCycle experience in Boulder. Unfortunately sometimes we were not able to remove the bikes from the dock, and ended up having to walk to the next dock. I would love to see the app over laid on google maps for Those of us without a good sense of direction so ones starting and destination can be easily located on the map. Overall loved the bikes, a great way for a tourist to see Boulder
No indication on active bikes. When you have active bikes there is no clear indication on activity such as cost and time active.
Wow. It’s more expensive to get a bike in FL than in Miami. Just wow
Horrible. I wish I could leave less then a 1 star review because they make you park them at a dock station. Our group had to back track 15 blocks to try and end our ride but the dock station was full and we weren’t going to travel anymore so we got charged 120 dollars per bike. Should of just called a cab.
Bike did not unlock, pass consumed anyway. How come a pass gets consumed when a bike is « returned » within 30 seconds? Fix it.
Annoying kickstands. I would have given 5 stars but if you have adult sized feet the kickstand gets in the way and you constantly hit it on the way up. Very annoying, drives you nuts after a while.
Criminals. This bike share program is a scam of hidden “usage fees”. Do not download or use it. Take an uber
broken bicycles rented out. The app works well for renting bikes, but there’s a big flaw: if you report a bike as needing repairs, it stays available for the next rider. This means you could end up renting a broken bike with no way to know beforehand. Worse, customer service is only available on weekdays, so if you have an issue on the weekend, you’re out of luck. Until they fix this, it’s a gamble every time you rent.

Could be a 5 star!. App works great. However I try to use the app a couple times a day (RTC Bikeshare, Las Vegas) but the app says I still have a bike checked out, even though I have a text confirmation that the bike was returned. Which means I have to use my monthly membership card... the RFID card doesn’t read certain docks. Frustrating
Not dependable. Great concept, okay-poor execution. 2/8 of my trips there were bikes at the docks but none would unlock. There were other bikes that were in the docks but would not appear on app. The numbers of bikes/docks available are often incorrectly reported on the app. Technical support takes 24-48 hours which is not helpful if you’re stranded and need a bike to unlock
Awesome and fun bikes!. BCycle is awesome! It’s super easy to use and there are bike racks all over Boulder. The bikes also come with individual locks so you can lock them up at places that don’t have a BCycle rack, like Chautauqua Park or other hiking trails.
Unreliable and unsafe. Bikes /stations had stopped working in middle of use and the customer service is unresponsive ( this happened 5 days ago and no response from them them Yet) they usually have auto answer saying buy another day pass and we will refund you next day. But the app is super faulty so it wont let you unlock another bike and you will have no option but to walk back home 3 miles away or call an uber
Got an email saying I didn’t return the bike. I am two for two with bad experiences with this company. The first time my husband was overcharged. This time I got an email saying I didn’t return the bike and that I will be charged. I called to resolve this and they have to send a technician out to verify the bike has been returned. She said it would take at least 24 to 48 hours for that to happen. I am really annoyed!
Madison, WI. Would like to be able to see the charging status of each electric bike available on the app. Occasionally a glitchy system - sometimes it says bikes are not available and won’t let you check one out when there are several at the docking stations. Overall, a great way to get around a pretty hilly town.
Extremely Unreliable Service. Worst service ever. Pretty much every time I try to unlock a bike none of them will unlock or they’re out of service (mind you half the bikes will be present). Several times I’ve unlocked a bike that’s says it’s fully charged only to have it due on me mid ride. The app is also a terrible indicator of bike availability, because it doesn’t connect to the bikes well. BCycle is great when it works. The thing is 90% of the time it doesn’t work.
So grateful!. I simply love taking this bike around when I need to get to a place in town quickly! Thank you all @ green bike for the service, low price & hard work! Such an awesome privilege in our community!!!
Learning to bike again. This has been a wonderful benefit for me. I live near the river walk and pearl and I bike everyday several times per day! I have definitely increased my physical activity and cardio which I was previously unable to do because of my plantar fasciitis. I highly recommend bike share.
Awesome Idea, Terrible App. Totally unreliable and outdated app. -Says there's no available bikes when I am looking at a whole row of them -The app won't read the bike being returned, leading to costly "late fees" that the user won't receive until days later when the notification is sent. -Customer service phone line helps, but only if they answer...and only if the call doesn't get dropped. If you can see some positivity through this shroud of complications, then more power to you. But the folks at Bcycle should realize how much better the service could be with a few updates on the app development!
Such a great easy to use service ! Bikes always charged and ready to go 👍👍👍. Awesome service in central Boulder! I see more and more folks using the service every day!
Unreliable. More often than not, this system does not work. Even when the app doesn’t work, the stations don’t work. It loads for ten minutes when trying to read my account number. There is always an error with the station, account, or app. Do not use this if you need to be on time anywhere. When it works (which is rare) it is wonderful. Use it if your plans are not very important.
Thank you!!. These bikes are a blessing. Thank you for setting this up. It allows me to visit friends and get groceries even though I don’t own a car. The electric bikes are the BEST!!!! Once, I had an issue with a bike and customer service was extremely helpful and kind.
The app doesn’t stop your ride when you return it.. It says to make sure you wait to hear the bike beep 3 times when you return your bike. However, the 3 beeps will happen and it’ll say you’re good, but it keeps the time running on your app. I tried to contact customer service, and they close at 4pm. I’m traveling and can’t afford the charge that’s going to be put on my card by the time the customer service center opens.
Great value for money for annual membership. Great value for money - has a lock, phone holder n a basket and light as well. Would love to see the app work more smoothly and the docking and undocking as well. Also more stations would help. But it’s so much fun that I use it almost weekly.
Convenient & Well-Designed. As an avid cyclist with experience on and off rode, who has used bike shares nationwide, I endorse this product wholeheartedly. The bikes are versatile, easy to operate, and hearty. The user experience with the app and the docking stations is very streamlined as well.
A to B. The easiest way to get around the town of Boulder is on these bikes. There are plenty of stations around here and it’s so nice to just check you bike off at a station when you’ve gotten to your destination. No liability incurred. Absolutely zero concern for bike theft.
Never works. Terrible app that fails me every time. Have had an issue all 5 times I have attempted to use these bikes. They don’t unlock, I get charged for rides I shouldn’t, and I have an unpleasant experience each time I try to bike. I love to bike so I keep attempting to use these hoping they will work, but finally giving up. Terrible product and terrible support each time I’ve reached out for help. Docks are always down.
Denise. We had a problem yesterday with the app not showing the correct ride time and a big cost for the ride which was totally incorrect. On all other trips though it has accurately recorded our rides, so hopefully their customer service will respond accordingly and and correct yesterday’s issue. We love riding the electric bikes!
Listen up movers and shakers. So easy to hop on a bike and hop off at or close to your destination. The bikes could use a little work but they were easily adjustable and perfectly rideable.
Good app business model needs work. The app allows you to ride a bike daily without the pain of owning one. Only thing I request is a small buffer before your charged an overage fee. I was charged an overage fee for 1 minute over. Seems ridiculous. Maybe put a 5 minute buffer on being charged the full next 30 minutes
Terrible. Was charged for going past the time on a trip due to a bike rack not operating so I had to find a different one. Then when contacting the company they say it’s up to their business department to respond. Also got another charge the next day for something I have no idea about because it has a different receipt tag. When contacting the company they said it was for the same thing but I have no email for that charge as well. Finally I haven’t been contacted back about my calls for several days.
App Does Not Verify Email. Some person made an account with my email. The app does not verify email before allowing a user to proceed. This does not protect you or the cycling community. Your data is not safe with this app developer. Account email verification is the bare minimum in protecting user data, preventing spam for unwilling people, and protecting the assets that this app is supposed to connect people with. Also, when I tried to contact them the email bounced back because it didn’t exist.
Huge rip off. The bike didn’t register as docked when my wife returned it. She had to spend hours on the phone talking to multiple people to get it resolved. We bought the week pass for $30 and you still have to pay to use the bikes even with the week pass... Very misleading. I do not recommend using this company. A taxi is cheaper, faster, and more convenient. Stay away.
LOVE the bikes, the app is sub-par. Improvements I’d love to see: - show available car parking near bike stations. Many stations have no car parking anywhere near them. I’ve wasted a lot of time driving around looking for parking. It would be great to be able to choose a bike station because there is known parking nearby. - note the time a bike is checked out and even better: give a count down showing when it’s due back
Update fixes crashing. Title says it all- used to crash constantly but looks like the new builds have really improved things. The new electric bikes are awesome! I’ll be renewing if this keeps up
Is this app update a joke?. The previous version wasn’t great, but at least it worked consistently. The latest update introduces an enormous amount of bugs and usability issues, constantly crashes, and just overall degrades the experience. Bcycle is my main mode of transportation and I really hope they can bring back a usable version of the app.
How did I not know about this?. Very easy to use and a lot of fun. The app is makes checking out bikes take less than 5 seconds and you are riding. It’s impressive.
UW-student review. Most convenient thing on earth. The new electric bikes will assist you up hills and will get you to class in no time. BCycle makes getting around campus very easy. Also, you get 50% off for the membership if you’re a student, faculty, or staff at UW-Madison
No upkeep !. Tried to do a bike ride with my son. Started at Clearfork only to find out of 6 electric bikes all were dead except 1 with 1 bar electric left. Took the bikes anyway thinking we could swap out later. Stopped at Trinity N orth , Trinity South same thing. Made it to 7th Street and those 3 stations and those that had power , had flat tires . Had to Uber back to my truck at Clearfork trailhead. Very disappointed!! And to think I bought a yearly pass for one hundred dollars. Definitely will be trying to get a refund!!
3 Seconds to ride. This BCycle App is excellent! I walk up to a bike station and tap the two digit number of the bike slot. The bike immediately releases and I am riding within 3 seconds of walking up. I can see how many open bike slots are available at my planned destination very easily in a very clear map. I can also type in my start place and end place and get clear information. At the end of my ride, I can see time and gps map of where I went. This is such a great UI, easy, fast, and consistently works. It always amazes me how accurate it is in a constantly changing inventory. Excellent work!
Worst Customer Support ever, congrats cable companies you’re not #1 anymore. I have had multiple times where there system is down, or doesn’t register a return and my account gets “suspended”. You call for support and no ones there, then you get a voicemail that cuts you off after 15 seconds so you can’t even leave an actual message to let them know what went wrong. Complete tourist trap, locals stay away.
Useful but not user friendly. -App crashes occasionally when checking out a bike -There is no clear indication on the map to distinguish whether it is displaying available bikes vs parking spaces -A timer would be useful to show how long you have had your bike checked out -I receive an email notification every time I return a bike, despite having chosen the ‘no email notifications’ setting
Simply terrible. Don’t waste your time with this app. I’ve spent more time waiting for it to load than actually riding the bikes. When you need it to work the most, it just freezes and doesn’t work at all. Never use it if you need to be somewhere. I’ve ridden bikes with flat tires, bikes with broken brakes, bikes with bent guards because I was in such a rush I didn’t have time to check their condition. It’s honestly better to just jog than to use this unusable system
Terrible app and customer service. The app does not work and does not accept payment. Gives processing error on two different devices. When you call customer service, they condescendingly lie to you and hang up. Two devices and several cards, but it’s not a problem with their system? Potential it is a scam to steal bank information.
Expensive. It was 5 dollars per ride for years (not cheap) and now it’s 7 dollars. Although they released a pay by minute option it is still expensive when the total shows up. Would only use it for emergencies.
Overpriced & Inadequate. It’s more expensive than any other bike sharing app I’ve ever used and is a very poorly operated. If you travel to any other city besides your hometown you will not be able to use their bicycle. They have a monopoly on bike sharing in the city I live in so I was forced to pay their exorbitant prices. I traveled to another city near by that used the same app and found I wasn’t able to rent a bike because it was not in my hometown. 👎👎
The best way to explore the city!. This was my first time using Green Bike and I just loved it! I was able to find the locations easily and using the app to get the bikes and return them was a breeze. I highly recommend it!
Impossible to use another city. I live in Los Angeles and I have a login based on that area. Now I am visiting Austin. Not only the app won’t let me use my Los Angeles login in Austin, but it won’t let me create one with the same email. I am an experienced software developer, and when I see this kind of stupidity I feel embarrassed by seeing someone design such terrible app.
Glitch problem with putting back a broken bike. Put a broken bike back into it’s station and it didn’t signal the app that I put it back so I wasn’t able to get a working bike from a different area around the UCSC campus because it said I was still riding the broken bike even though I wasn’t. I had to walk all the way back to Rachel Carson from Cowell because of this stupid glitch!!!
All day pass not what it seems. Buying an all day pass implies that you are good to take the bike for well… all day, not made very clear but you need to return the bike every 60 minutes to avoid fees. Took a bike out for a spin around the capital, took 100 minutes and got charged 20$ many of the stops take more than 60 mins to get between so it is not reasonable to rent a bike to go shopping on the other side of town.
Service isn’t reliable. So far I’ve had 4 trips and they’ve all had issues. Either there have been no bikes nearby and I’ve had to travel 10-20 minutes to another station, or the station or bikes were busted, or destination stations were full and I had to ride over a mile to off load the burden of the bike - the last issue made me 20 minutes late to a meeting.
Add a timer on the bike. My wife and I signed up several times for the one month plan where you get 30 minutes. Why don’t you put a count down timer on the bike dash board so you can see how much time you have left before you have to get it docked with having to pay extra??
Didn’t register when i returned my bike. I went to the grocery store and locked my bike at the station there. I then went shopping and came back out to ride home, but the app said I still had my bike checked out. I could see it still in the dock where I left it but it wouldn’t show up on the app to check out again, and the app wouldn’t let me get a new bike because it said I never returned the first one! Terrible experience. I had to walk 2 miles home with heavy groceries.
Electric bikes are awesome!!. I’m now planning to use an electric bike everyday for riding to my workplace and back. Thank you Boulder B-cycle for such an affordable and easily accessible bike service. Dropping a bike at any station feels very convenient!
Terrible Experience in Austin!. Terrible experience in Austin. The AP doesn’t work. Reads error when you complete transaction. Tried at least 3 kiosks on S Congress Ave. All of them had such distorted screens they would not respond to touch pad and could not complete transaction. Why would ANYONE buy a pass if you can’t access a bike? I would give them less than 1 star if possible.
Malfunction lock. I clicked the bike into a station and checked to ensure that it was locked, but it didn’t register and customer service is closed. There was no way to check or manually enter it in. This seems like a huge scam when it’s obviously their system failing and since it was after hours, there was no way to contact anyone. I highly discourage anyone from using this system.
Hard to find. Using the BCycles in Madison, WI. They don’t get redistributed very often so all of the bikes will be concentrated on one side of the city and won’t be anywhere in the other direction for me to use until the end of the day. Makes it hard to use for anything more than leisure. Don’t rely on if you’re on a time crunch.
Auto-renew turned off still charges. I used this app with a student account and made sure to turn off the auto-renew feature well in advance. But now that the service costs money, I was still unfortunately charged literally an hour after making sure the option was turned off... I am actively trying to find a way to delete my card off of this app, but it seems that this is not an implemented “feature”......
so fun, so convenient. My boyfriend got to ride all around town & explore for a low price. These could not have been easier. I wish they had a shorter pass option. I don’t need a day pass, just hourly.
