Metro Bike Share Comments & Reviews 2026

Electric. This is an amazing city service but needs more electric bikes rather than manual bikes due to hills

Got the hang of it and going great. The first couple rides I had some issues parking the bike back in the dock and had to contact support for help. After that I got the hang of docking slowly but firmly for the three beeps lol!! Since then it’s been smooth sailing. Parking is limited where I live and I often have to park a 20 minute walk or more away. Accessing the bikes makes it so much easier and faster, as well as zipping around town for various appointments. Took me a minute but now I love this service.

Scammers. in Earth Day they said the road is gonna be free for 30 minutes. I took the bike for 15 minutes or 14 something like that and they charged me for the whole trip and they was even asking me and they return the bike before the time ends by 5

terrible. app crashes every time. it's a coin toss if the stations are in service. fix your app!!!

Same as the person above.... If I could give it zero stars, I would. It’s a whole wrap-around and once you think you’ve figured it out, you wind up with wasted time in the rain. At least, that’s what happened to me. The customer service was harder to get a hold of than the president...this app and all of it’s “help” is awful.

Don’t do it. You’ll be spending time later trying to get your funds back that they take without permission and no contract.

Account unexpectedly locked out. Everything went well until I couldn't log in to my account, saying, “Invalid login. Please try again.” I tried resetting my password, but they told me to contact customer service and said there was nothing they could do! Please fix the issue LA Metro Bike Service!

Be careful with auto renew. Purchased a 30 day pass while visiting LA. It’s not clear when doing this that they will automatically ‘renew’ the pass a month later and continue to charge you.

TAP bugs are NOT fixed. An update from four months ago was supposed to have fixed the bug when signing into a TAP account. It did not. In-app support was majorly unhelpful, ignoring my comments about the issue I was having and constantly redirecting me to buy a pass, while offering no suggestions to sign into my account. When unlocking a bike in the app, you must log in every time. If you can’t log in, you can’t use the app to unlock the bike. Well, I purchased my pass through the LIFE program using my TAP account meaning I need to use the TAP log in. When I enter my user name and password, the sign in redirects to a missing page on the metro bike website. The constant error message of 404 page not found and nowhere to go from there other than back to the log-in page to start over, and still not be able to log in, renders this app unusable

Amazing! 🤩. My car was stolen a few weeks ago 😱 and these convenient and easy to use machines have all but saved my entire commute!!!! 🚲 super easy to use, very well maintained and one of my favorite parts of the day!

Not connecting with Tap card. Unable to connect to Tap card in my phone’s wallet. Trying to login to my Tap account via Metro Bike app and it is unable to process. The mobile web age redirects to the app. Seems like there’s no way to move past this bug, please fix. You can easily buy a short term pass but I don’t want to do this since I have a Tap card already.

Do not use these bikes. My boyfriend and I were trying to rent some bikes in Venice and ride them to Santa Monica since it was dark and cold out so we tried renting these Metro Bikes. It kept declining our cards BUT WAS TAKING THE MONEY OUT EACH TIME. We both got charged $51 and our banks reported it as fraud and closed my boyfriends card so he can’t even use it anymore until he gets a new card. Do not ever use these bikes because they will take your money. Horrible experience.

Surprisingly affordable. I and my son were visiting LA, and got wanted to explore the city without paying a lot for micro mobility options, after spending $16 for 10 minutes of riding 2 Lyme scooters. We have discovered Metro City Bikes offering full day of riding option for only $5 per bike! We rode for 20+ miles around the area and saw a bunch of places using e-bike models which were great for going uphill. Using the app is straightforward, phone number + CC/ApplePay is sufficient to register and start riding in a few minutes. Finally returning the bikes to a station and locking them we realized our trips were not ending due to the station being offline. That required a tech support ticket communication, with the picture proof of our returns to get unlocked virtually out of the prior trip. Tech Support was quick to communicate and resolve the issue, but I wish there were less duplicate emails being sent by the system. Ideally there should be more e-bikes available, and also knowing the battery status through the app would eliminate depleted battery surprises if need to cover many miles.

Weren’t being helpful. I tried to close my account since I couldn’t find a missing bike or returning it. I just don’t think it’s a good idea to use the Bike Share in Los Angeles. Please be careful with using this app.

Way better than BCycle. The other app wouldnt work during login, with this i had no problems

Login with Tap not working. Please fix

Avoid at all costs. Took a trip with metro bike share, and returned the bike at the dock. The bike locked into the dock, but did not beep. Obviously I couldn’t get the bike back out, and I couldn’t rent another one because the app thought I still had a bike rented. No one responded to the phone, email, nor text that I sent to metro. I’m still being charged for this ride as we speak with no recourse - I can’t get in contact with anyone. Thank god for some kind strangers, otherwise I’d be stranded miles from home Just buy a bike, no one cares enough about this service to make it functional or safe.

Can’t log in. Page won’t load after inputting credentials

Garbage. Wow. This is what our tax dollars are going towards? My parents are in town and we thought it would be great to use these bikes. After 30 frustrating minutes trying to understand how this app works, we decided to walk instead. As an app designer myself I’m amazed at how confusing it is to unlock a bike. It’s as if the Metro designers worked hard to make it especially difficult.

Worst Public Bike Share I’ve Ever Used. The bikes don’t have internal locks, they make you put the bike back in at a station, but more than half the city doesn’t have stations, basically central. So you have to ride around and keep the meter running if you aren’t downtown or on the west side.

Why did I get charged a “usage fee”. ?!??!

Ok (when it works). The app is very glitchy. Bikes will not release from the dock but register you are renting them… Bikes won’t register being returned and they will try to slap you with late fines. The quality and quantity of bikes is very poor as well. It’s really unfortunate for the consumer that there are no competitors because they get away with providing a consistently bad product.

Biking. Absolutely love how the app works as well as technical support that organization provides in case of any difficulties. Also, saw that all the bikes are sanitized and cleaned. Overall very impressed with the service and support.

Love it!. Easy to use, real-time updates on bike stations with bikes, even electric now!

Charged 4.5$ for not using it.. I used it the day before yesterday bought 5$ pass, used 75 minutes in total, today they changed me 4.5$more for no reason. I need my money back,do not link your bank account to these apps.

2 stars because app works <50% of time. There is an issue with my ride on more than half of my trips. No easy way to report faulty bikes. Is not available in the early morning hours. If I were to give one pro, it would be that customer support is quick and responsive. I have had to contact them multiple times now.

Not worth it save your money. There are hardly any bikes available and they are poorly distributed. Good for one time ride if going somewhere less than 30 minutes away and close to a bike station otherwise save your money. Membership is worthless because finding a bike is extremely hit or miss and you get charged an extra $1.75 or some rubbish like that for every minute you go over the 30 minutes. Good idea, poor execution.

Good if you only need one trip. Bike will regularly not register as returned - which support will eventually fix but it could take up to a few hours. You can’t unlock a new bike until they fix the problem so if you were planning to take one home, now you’re stranded. Phone number for support doesn’t actually connect you to anyone and the email doesn’t even work.

Shamefully Bad. Where to begin? The glaring UX failures? The difficulty logging in? The possibility of incurring a $2000 fine by unlocking a bike 10 miles from you? The general difficulty of buying a pass. The impossibility of changing your payment method. In the UX team’s defense the engineering is equally poor. Random error messages. The database does not retain signin information. This is a total failure at the expense of the citizens and visitors of Los Angeles.

Horrible. It’s keeps redirecting you to fill out a new page and when you finally reach the end to try and log in it simply doesn’t work. All the other bike/ scooter apps are so easy to use. This one is impossible even for this millennial. Eventually I just gave up and left

STOP AND READ BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD. If you are looking for a quick one time use bike, this is not the bike share for you. They will have you jumping between 2 apps and 1 website for 30 minutes only to find out you have to purchase a 30 day pass for 17 dollars. Thats the cheapest option. Do not use these bikes or app unless your planning on repeatedly using them. Do not download this app and make account unless you have at least 30 mins free to figure it out because honestly its the worst most confusing process.

Best way to commute downtown. LA becoming more bikable city every day. There is no way to beat the rush hour traffic then taking a bicycle from LA Metro Bike share station. Also the app runs smoothly with a hiccup. Try it for yourself.

Reallly !!??. I don’t even know where to start. Y’all really charged me almost 2 thousand because I didn’t return the bike in it’s place like I was in a hurry that’s why I used your bikes. I just wanted to take my puppy to the hospital who is fighting for her life right now. I left the bikes parked outside the hospital and left really late from the hospital thinking nothing would happen if I left it there I wasn’t even thinking I just wanted to save my puppy which I didn’t even have money to pay for her to stay there. I’m only 19 I don’t even have that type of money

Page Keeps Redirecting. I'm just trying to read the help section before I rent a bike but I can't even do that when the app redirects me the second I open the page. It responds as if I clicked an ad, when I clearly haven't. Seems like a deal breaker until they fix that.

TAP integration STILL broken. Metro Bike Share does not work with TAP accounts. Wasted my time loading a tap card and trying to log in only to give up and being out a decent amount of money.

All the bad reviews are 100% accurate. I can’t even explain the problems with the bike share/LA metro ****show system I’ve been having. As much as I want to use the metro trains and bikes, the system is too dysfunctional for me to wrestle with.

Good Bike Share program with a good app.. Works great! Happy with the improvements they have made over the year I’ve been using it.

Horrible idea and execution. Good luck finding a location to return. Bikes underpowered. Possibility of being charged $2,500. Why would anyone use this instead of the 50 better options.

Don’t waist your time and money. The worse app. I lost $20 trying to unlock the bike. There is no way you can unlock it unless you pay for a monthly membership. They don’t have that advertised anywhere. They just say tap and go. Scam. After you go through many steps and waist over 30 minutes and your money, you realize you can’t unlock the darn bike. I called customer service to try to get my money back and they said I cannot get a refund. REALLY? I am super frustrated. Shame on you!

Back. Is still on, so I am worried that the trip hasn’t ended

Can’t unlock a bike from the app. Many steps involved—the app is really just a map, which is confusing. Makes you use a second app, and even that demands you log in to your TAP card. Even with a registered Tap card, still can’t get a bike — it insisted my registered Tap card wasn’t registered with Metro Bike, though there is no page to do that on. Bizarrely difficult, multi-app process that never even had a solution.

Service on fliek!. They're remarkably responsive via the support messenger, and if you call you get a human on the second ring. LA nailed this metro bike program, really hoping they expand it into Hollywood!

Worst app experience, so disjointed and confusing.. So you arrive at the bike and the instructions on the stand say just to tap. Then you have to go to this app, which directs you to download the BCycle app. Then that directs you to the metro web page to create an account and register your tap. Then you have to figure out how to enroll in the program, which once you figure out where to do that it only allows you to register for longer term programs, not on the go rides. At this point we gave up and drove. I can’t believe this is what you are using my tax dollars for. Take a look at all other large city bike share programs, they are so easy and fast. LA I shake my head.

Glitches. It works at times but sometimes I can’t renew it. The page doesn’t load.

Excellent app and bike share system. I've been using the bikes every day for about a week now. The app is super easy to use and tells you what you need to know. The bike sharing system is very well thought out. The stations are numerous and conveniently located, and the bikes are easy to check out and easy to ride. It's changed the way I get around DTLA. Someone put a lot of thought into this system and it shows. Congratulations LA Metro.

Fraud alert and spam. Do NOT download this app and ride these bikes. I got charged 45 days later out of the blue and had to call my credit card company to alert them of this fraud activity. On top of this fraudulent activity I now get spam because you must use an email. Because of this I am going to disassemble every metro bike that I see to prevent fraud from happening

So buggy. It’s such an unreliable buggy app

Used first time June 2022. To add a counterpoint to a lot of negative reviews, I had a good experience using the app and renting a bike. Downloaded app, created an account just with email and password, purchased a 1-ride pass within the app using Apple Pay / stored credit card on iOS, walked up to a dock, picked a bike, selected the corresponding number and unlocked the bike. After riding, redocked the bike which ended the trip. Worked pretty seamlessly and only spent about 2 minutes before being able to take a bike and ride. Would like to see more electric bikes and more docking stations. Found myself in between docks when getting lunch and decided to just keep the bike rather than walk 6 blocks to park it and there’s no way to secure the bike unless you bring your own lock if doing that.

Worst bikeshare app ever. Ive tried to rent a Metro Bike three times now and have yet to be successful. You need a physical Tap card to start and then need to link it to the Metro Bike account. That should be easy enough, but the data never seems to make it from one app to the other so you get bounced around between apps without ever being able to unlock a bike. Super frustrating.

It’s good. Checking out bikes is easy if you have a pass and there’s links to call or text customer service. There should be a refresh button because to refresh you have to quit the app and reopen it. You can also use kiosks if they’re available.

Great way to see DT Los Angeles. Awesome , easy , fun

Love the bike share program but… Fix your UX!. I really appreciate the need this service fulfills in LA for obvious reasons but the execution and user experience via the app/sign up needs work. It’s nearly impossible for Canadian customers to sign up because of the zip code / postal code limitation, and often the interface leads you to dead ends or glitches, saying you never created a profile when you in fact did. Customer service is nearly impossible to get ahold of via telephone and the alternative texting method is infuriating. I hope they’re working on it because visitors to and locals of LA need a more affordable alternative transportation method to the automobile so desperately.

App doesn’t work, kiosks don’t work. It’s a bad system that doesn’t work.

Worse app out there. Do not download this app. I rode their bike a while back and now they randomly charged me a usage fee 1 year later.

I love this app!. Love this app!

Do not bother using!. This app is design to lose patient. Whoever design the process does not know what people want to purchase. It is really difficult to handle and to get to work. I couldn’t set up my account in order to use it. Please don’t use this trash app.

Deeply disappointed in the complexity. So many steps I decided to drive. Other bike share programs have been much more user friendly—- LA Metro—-please improve this!!!! Longtime LA resident.

Not useful. You can’t get to a log in screen from the app on IPhone XS Max

WORST APP EVER. If I could rate this -5 stars I would. Impossible to ride these metro bikes w/your phone. WORTHLESS

Retarded app. Why do you need 2 another app to use this one?

Useless app. I wanted to get a bike downloaded the app and it’s useless. You need a card which is mailed to you or you buy in a store. What a backwards system!!!!!

Metro gets greedy entering the pay bike rat race!. After realizing Metrobike share app only scans for bike locations and nothing else, I only became further annoyed as I was bounced to the 2nd app (which actually calcs everything - usage, charges, account info and registering) but couldn’t yet use my Tap because it needed to be registered. Trying to register would vex anyone: linking now from second app BCycle into Tap’s website, searching for a very inapparent Metroshare tab off the drop down menu, only to find clear signup instructions that couldn’t get me past Step 1.’s register link as my monthly E-Z pass couldn’t be signed on as the Tap card was really not supposed to be the pay source, requiring me to leave a charge card on file for a service that is Metro-advertised across their bike stations as Tap-usable! (All that hoopla about Tap on the kiosks is for what, then?) This after 3 rounds of idk from Tap reps who couldn’t understand why my address wouldn’t allow me to create an account. All this info I did NOT find at the Tap agency helpline(!) btw, but at Metro’s bike share liaison after she initially told me to call Tap back. Very slick! YOU mean “Tap-enabled”, but you guys are not honest enough to say that. That’s why so many of your bikes sit unused at the station: inefficiency, contract stuffing, being influenced by corporate greed, all making for a terrible user experience before you even get on the bike. Sorry, but I’ve chosen the ease of Download. Input. Scan. Ride.

Does absolutely nothing. It’s just a map that redirects to BCycle, and a Web view around the taptogo web site. 1. Skip this and download BCycle - that’s the app that actually unlocks the bikes. 2. Now go to https://taptogo.net, and create an account. 3. Sign in, and register your TAP card. 4. Now add a card for payments, or set up PayPal. 5. Click the hamburger menu and select Programs -> Metro Bike Share. Scroll down to the Passes, and enroll in one of them. 6. Open the BCycle app, and log in. Now find a bike and use BCycle to unlock it.

Don’t use. Save yourself the time and unlock bike with your CC/debit card. You will only use this app to locate stations- don’t expect help from phone support either.

Mapage. Why oh why does the map show freeways but does not show train and bus lines??

Rabbit Hole🐰. Watching an unironic instructional video on how to sign up for LA bike share would, I think, be very entertaining. #wecandobetter

Unable to proceed with app.. Just downloaded the app and can’t get past the tutorial intro screen. What the heck? FIX YOUR APP FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!

Bugs bugs bugsss. I’ve tried to use the bikes yesterday with no success! The code that is asked in the bike wasn't possible to transfer to the app. I've tried several bikes! In some point one bike was unlocked seems to be available but in seconds was locked again! That happened 3 times! Witch I got all the 3 emails ”thank you for riding with us”. RIDICULOUS. A friend of mine was trying as well and guess what?! No success! She called the support and no one could help us. When she asked for a refund they hung up on her.

Did an app developer troll the city of LA?. It’s as if somebody purposely created the worst possible bike share app possible. Nothing works. Its impossible, never gets you to the simple end point of unlocking a bike and makes you download more useless apps. Comically bad.

Worst App. Totally agree with previous review. Wow how do you build an app this bad? Can’t even figure out how to get the dang bike to unlock.

Waits. The worst app I’ve seen so far. Complicated scheme and after going through all steps it’s still not working. Turned my LA trip into hell. Never ever going to use this “transport”.

Fees. The app is okay but be wary of fees. It is not very clear that there is an activation fee as well as hourly fee.

Apple Pay. Will you add Apply Pay option to make easier to purchase passes!

Clean app. Great visuals. App is easy to navigate with no unnecessary buttons/icons. Suggestion: please add bike paths on map so we can refer to single map to navigate.

Very misleading. Was given the impression i would be able to use my tap card to unlock the bike but when i called i was told that they want you to buy another card and make payments and pay on it or some dumb mess

Trash app. Doesn’t work. Took all my information and then bugged out on payment. Tried to use the local machine with my credit card and it was equally garbage. Do not recommend.

Are you kidding me?. This app is useless. LA get your act together!

Be warned won’t work instantly.. Take several days to work. FYI.

Scam. Just doesn’t work. Will i strict you to create a profile and add money but won’t let you get to a point to release a bike. I promise you, If you download this app you will lose money and leave frustrated
