DaVinci Resolve for iPad Comments & Reviews 2026
Love app still needs some fine tuning. I love using DaVinci Resolve on my Mac and the fact that I can now go back and forth from my iPad to my laptop or desktop is amazing, my only pain point is the fact that not all pages are on the app yet specifically the edit page which is what i mainly use on desktop and that the touch Interface can use some work to flow smoother at least being able to zoom in and out of the timeline or some sort of wheel to scroll through the timeline like Final Cut brought to their IPad version. Overall I really do love that DaVinci is here and look forward to how they will improve.
AMAZING! But, PLEASE STOP THE CRASHES!. Editing on the couch with an Apple Pencil faster than my editors in a suite? Yes, please and thank you—- until —-WOOPS—— CRASH, CRASH, CRASH! Just counted eight times in a row in 15mins. This has to stop in order to be effective. Reluctantly deleting and reinstalling app, scared that all of my files will be gone because of this CRASH, CRASH, CRASH! So, the Final Cut and professional, fancy editing colleagues actually win because they can complete a project longer than :45. Fix whatever bug is crashing the 18.5 on the latest iPad. Thx! From all the couch-and-go miscellaneous editors.
Do not upgrade to ipad OS 26. EXTREMELY broken. Needs to fix photo permissions to be usable. iPad OS 26 breaks the ability to use panels hidden due to lack of touch input support. Edit panel tries to break your speakers with static even if you have no audio track. Deliver panel will export, but doesn’t show progress at all. Fusion refused to load. Before upgrading every panel worked with the only issue being lack of modifications for touch and pen input, but those were fairly easy to work around for the vast improvement to productivity those panels provide over the lackluster ones provided if left on default. Of course there still continues to be the frustration of having to duplicate all media as mentioned in my original review below, but hopefully the regressions are more on Apples premature barely a beta quality release of iOS 26 than a problem with Resolve itself because nothing really compares to Resolve, when it works. Original review below. Currently doesn’t let you give it any system wide gallery access, meaning all media that’s present on an iPad has to be duplicated to be accessible to Resolve. Given Apple’s higher than gold price for storage upgrades and abysmally low base storage, adding a feature that cuts the apps storage usage in half is vital and made available to developers. I love the desktop version of Resolve and have thousands of hours spent editing on it, but it’s just not viable for any serious work with the storage situation. The hidden editor pages is a whole other story, but at least you can use keybinds to get those and they mostly work with some touchscreen frustrations to workaround.
Edit Page. I bought an iPad Pro specifically because of DaVinci Resolve, so I could edit more conveniently. Yet after two years, you still haven’t added the Edit page. Since I don’t have a physical keyboard, I’m forced to use the virtual keyboard or connect an external one to access that page. Every time I exit the app or it crashes, the page resets, and I often don’t have access to a keyboard to bring it back, causing a major inconvenience. Everyone is aware of Apple’s restrictive policies, but at least add the Edit page alongside the other two to make the experience complete.
Keyboard Shortcut Issues and Timeline Navigation Problems on iPad. I’m using DaVinci Resolve on an iPad Pro M4 with a Bluetooth keyboard, and I’m experiencing issues with keyboard shortcuts. Most keyboard shortcuts, including both default and custom-assigned ones, do not work at all. I have spent time trying to troubleshoot the issue, but it does not seem to be resolved. This does not appear to be a keyboard issue, as the keyboard works correctly in iPadOS and other apps. It seems to be either a serious bug or a limitation of the iPad version of DaVinci Resolve. At the moment, this makes the basic editing workflow very difficult due to unreliable shortcut functionality. Additionally, I would like to ask how to zoom in and zoom out on the timeline on iPad. I am also experiencing a usability issue with the timeline navigation area. The timeline movement section feels extremely narrow, and multiple functions (dragging clips, moving the playhead, and navigating the entire timeline) are all compressed into the same small area. Because of this, it is very difficult to make precise adjustments. Even small movements often result in large unintended jumps, causing the timeline to move far away from the intended position. This makes it necessary to repeatedly search for the correct position, which significantly interrupts the editing workflow. I cannot find any option to adjust or expand this control area, and it is unclear how this interface is intended to be used efficiently in practice. Is there any setting or workaround to improve timeline navigation precision on iPad, or is this a known limitation of the current interface? I would appreciate it if these usability issues could be reviewed and improved in future updates. Thank you.
GREAT FOR WHATS INTENDED. This editor really is the most complete version of video edition that I’ve seen on a mobile device and FREE for a quick simple edit or just to get some work done on the go but I’d say you can edit any video in here, ofc the desktop version (free) is more complete and has more tools but for what it is capable and for social media editing really makes life easier than carrying a laptop or going to the desktop to edit a simpler video , Really works great and runs smoothly on the iPAD Air 5 with the M1 Chip.
Great app. I love using this app to make content and I like using the legacy warp effects. On the fusion page, there should be an animate toggle for the drip effect. You should add another effect like wave that has 6 sliders, 3 sliders for vertical and horizontal waves and an animate toggle and slider and maybe 2 sets for both vertical and horizontal. It should act similar to drip but with waves instead of ripples, like a clone of Vegas pro waves. I'm not forcing you to create these effects but it's a suggestion.
Difficult UI. Davinci on iPad was an afterthought as it is very close to the desktop version. The interface is absolutely overflowing, and frustrating. Productivity and fun are both low. For DaVinci Resolve on iPad you need an Apple Pencil, Speed Editor, Keyboard, a 20w + power supply that’s continuously connected, and reading glasses. Headphones are nice to have as well. And even with all that stuff the desktop version is where you long to be, and that’s where I finish every project started on iPad. I’m going to try FCPX on my trip to Mexico this week. They say that one is fun and productive.
Valiant attempt but key pieces missing. This attempt to bring DaVinci to the iPad is amazingly well done. It is possible to construct and color grade a video timeline almost as good as you would on the full version. Almost but not quite. There are some shortcomings to the functionality especially in the audio features. Annoyingly there’s no easy way to fade in and fade out an audio track - - the little white handle that you can drag in the edit module of the full version is non existent on the iPad. For that matter, the edit module is not there at all, neither is the Fairlight module. Paying the $ 99 upgrade to the iPad studio version doesn’t open up these features either, although it opens up many additional transitions and fusion features. Don’t get me wrong, I have created several pro looking videos on my iPad with this app and I am amazed that it actually brings a fairly good version of DaVinci to a mobile device, it’s just missing some audio control features, which I am hoping will be added in future updates. I
absolutely great (READ IF IT CRASHES ON STARTUP). industry standard video editor on an ipad! and to all the people saying it crashes, im on an ipad mini 5, it works fine, what more can you ask for? if it's crashing on startup, delete it and reinstall it. This app is free and has more features than other "pls subscribe and give me money" video editors. Every other editor is permanently out of the question. Davinci Resolve includes amazing editing tools for free, with even more amazing tools with Davinci Resolve Studio, for $95, which is actually a pretty good pricepoint for professional software such as this. I’ve seen softwares that have only one focus, and cost $200, while this is a full-featured, Hollywood professional movie studio quality editor, which of course is more than suited for my needs, simply making memes and editing my videos, and while some people may be immediately turned off by the fact that it simply looks quite complex, keep in mind, almost no professional software (Blender, Affinity Photo, Davinci Resolve, etc.), does not look complex, as it’s possible to fit advanced features without hiding them away in 350 different bundles of menus. Overall, 11/10, absolutely outstanding piece of software. The one and only request I have is the addition of more tabs. (Fusion, fairlight, etc.)
Not sure why it’s so difficult to see all my videos that are directly in my Photos app.. One of the frustrations I’ve had with this application is the fact that it does not show a folder for my Photos app. Despite having full access, nothing is on the left-hand side only the iCloud option is there. Reset tried different options. Nothing there for the Photos app, despite every other applicationin the apps folder, having access to just pull directly out of my Photos app, this one has to make it the most difficult. It should not be this difficult. When I click on the Photos app should be the very first thing that pops up.
A nice tool for low budget DIT but needs more update. I am a digital colorist, also 2nd camera assistant on set. Used the app on a set with wireless video receiver and UVC capture card. I captured incoming video as H.264 and made a grade roughly for DoP. It took only 3 minutes, He knew actor’s hair needs more light if we want to change hair color more vibrant and subtle cyan feeling in the post. We resolved the issue within another 5 minutes and everything worked flawlessly, both director and DoP was happy. It was not a livegrade but anyway works. Even recorded footage from C70 played butterly smooth. However one thing was disappointed: It does not support Canon Cinema RAW Light unlike desktop version, nor ProRes RAW, although my 12.9 6th gen iPad Pro have a decoder engine for that. Hope to see more format support in the near future and hopefully livegrade support.
2 audio files can’t play at once!. Music and other audio can’t play at once. It does crash a lot too. I woul like it to be easier to add transitions. Also, having a dedicated menu screen would improve the layout. It is hard to learn, but I’m sure there are plenty of videos on it. I can’t watch them so, if you could maybe add a help section showing some of these, that would be great! I am considering upgrading to pro, but it won’t show me the price, it just asks for password. Please fix! Five star app, just a few problems.
Can’t wait to see where it goes. I love that this is a full version. What I mean is that you can have someone on an iPad while someone is on a PC at the same time with cloud collaboration. I think the Cut Page and Color Grading pages are great for the iPad. It just needs to get the Fairlight & Edit page next. If you’re looking to get this, definitely try it first. If you’re already used to Resolve, then you’ll have 90% of the learning curve down. Definitely expect some learning curves. The workflow and other things will be a bit different and you will be slower than normal at first.
Software Optimization for Older iPads. One of the best editor available on iPad. It feels like nearly identical with the one I am used to on MacBooks, but allows mobility with this iPad version. There is only one issue, which is when I use it on some of the oldest compatible devices, such as my iPad Air 3rd generation. It will crash because of out of memory, even if on 1080p, when scrubbing timelines or rendering. The highest i can make to work is 720p. I mean 3GB of RAM on this iPad Air 3 is a hardware limit, and I can’t really blame on you guys too much, but some more software optimization on older devices would be appreciated!
From a guy never used DaVinci Resolve before and only using Lumafusion. I first heard about this editing software when it came to ipados, never knew that it existed on computer. I heard lot of professional editor like using this software. I never tried any editing software on the computer maybe because it’s performance very bad and cost too much money. So i try it out after 5 years using Lumafusion to editing for my videos. At first it’s very hard to use. can’t pinch in or out the clip line, comlicated zoom and out effects, theres some cool effects that I liked. After tried to learn it and final straw that broke the back is that, audio very buggy when i played the video (on 2021 iPad mini). So I decided to head back to Lumafusion because it’s kinda simple, enough for my video cutting, easy to zoom and out of an video, enough effects. It does all the stuff for me like Color Space based on clip I put in the project so I don’t need to worry about. Maybe i’m just an idiot trying to learn this “professional” app. If it’s the good editing software for you then use it and purchase the Studio mode for it. I just find it very hard to use and it’s sort of anti new user. If you find this review stupid then yea, i’m stupid.
No Help Section - unable to import videos. Like most people who refuse Davinci resolve on an iMac I was very excited to hear that they will be a version for iPad so of course I download it. My first problem was I am unable to import any videos at all like most people who use an iPad or an iPhone your photos/videos are stored in your photos, there is no way to access this. It only opened up folders that I have absolutely no images or videos in. There is no help section to try to help me figure out how to do this. I did not have this problem with DaVinci Resolve for Mac. So unless the program did not properly install, this is an epic fail on their part. Hopefully I will be able to figure it out and I can change the review to show that.
Exciting Potential Amidst Current Challenges. I’m a big fan of the app and its robust editing capabilities, but I’ve encountered some frustrating hurdles. For instance, despite having the latest iPad Pro with an M2 processor and ample storage space, I struggle with handling large files like those in ProRes format. Attempting to work with a 45GB file in my project often leads to crashes whenever I try to open or navigate through it in the timeline preview. Additionally, while Davinci Resolve offers a plethora of editing tools, the UI presents some challenges. Certain tabs, like the mixer tab in Fairlight, don’t fully open into view, and there’s no option to adjust their size. I also wish there was an option to enlarge the scopes window for better visibility during editing. Moreover, the subject tracking feature could use some refinement as it fails to save key frames for refining the automatic point and cloud tracking. It would be fantastic to see face tracking capabilities utilizing machine learning, similar to what’s offered in Final Cut Pro. Lastly, it would streamline my workflow if I could import media directly from my FTP file sharing server within the app.
Crashes constantly. Do I love this editing app? YES! I love all the features and the transitions and titles especially… that said. I’m really reluctant to do a bigger project than 1 or 2 minutes since it simply crashes on constantly. Sometimes I lose work eventhough I manually save to not lose work that takes awhile. I am working on the iPad Pro M1. The app is lovely for all it can do… but to use it for a 20 or 30 minute and potentially lose all that work and investment… I’m concerned. I have edited in Lumafusion for a few years now. Tired of how long it takes LF to do updates but it’s FAR more stable for good basic editing even if the transition options are just …well, amateur by comparison. It’s better to have something with Lumafusion than nothing with Davinci crashing all the time. WISH I had answers to what is the problem… but so far haven’t been able to find those answers.
Crashed several times and bugged out—lost 2 hours of work. I really want to like DaVinci Resolve, and because I haven’t paid for it yet I did add an extra star. However, while working on a project that wasn’t too crazy, my app experienced some slowdown. I’m running a 12.9 inch iPad Pro with an M1 chip. I tried to edit some photos with the inspector tab and it crashed a couple times. Eventually I gave up and moved back to cutting together the rest of the film. After working on it for a bit I tried to save it but it didn’t say whether it was saved or not. At some point I made a cut I didn’t like so I hit Cmd + Z, at which point the app freaked out and when it finally loaded normally, it went back to an earlier save state from a couple hours prior. Not sure what happened, and I was starting to get used to the UI, but I can’t responsibly learn this software if there is a chance it won’t save hours of work because it’s buggy. Supper bummed and disappointed. Glad I didn’t pay for it yet.
Good but needs work. This is a great app, and you get a lot of stuff for free (I paid for the Studio and honestly I probably shouldn’t have), but they seriously need to make some simple changes to the UI. Specifically - stop snapping the window to pre-defined ratios and just allow me to resize it like a normal person! It’s very annoying to have an external monitor 16:9 attached to my IPad, open it on that monitor — and Davinci inexplicably locks itself to a 4:3 ratio. If you try to drag the window around or resize, you can see the UI elements rescaling — only to ‘snap’ back into place once you let go of the mouse/window. Extremely annoying. Also, switching the pages at the bottom often interferes with the iPads taskbar appearance activation - so if you tap/click to go to the Cut page, for example, it’ll show the task bar. You have to click the very top of the icon to avoid this.
Desktop style video editing On-The-Go!. I have been using DaVinci Resolve on PC for years. It’s always been an intuitive yet powerful video editing tool, able to be as simple or advanced as the user would like. When I heard it was coming to iPad, I was skeptical. I have the iPad Air 5 and wasn’t convinced it would operate effectively. However, upon downloading and working with it, I realized how badly I judged the shift to mobile. The videos I edited were only around 5 minutes at most, however it seems the application delivers quality results regardless of the needs. It’s definitely worth the free download for anyone who would like to get into amateur video editing on entry-level devices. Fantastic job.
doubly miraculous. There are literally two miracles occurring here: First, that software like Davinci Resolve is available in nearly complete form on the iPad. Second, that it’s completely free for just about anything most people need to do with it. Yes, it’s complicated and it takes time to learn how to use correctly. Good. I wish more iPad software would allow itself this level of complexity, because often that’s the only way to get to necessary capability.
DaVinci Resolve Crash. I’ve used DaVinci Resolve since I found out it came out on the iPad. It works great for the most part, but there are some things that do need to be addressed. 1, whenever I start adding multiple video layers, it starts to slow down. It takes time for the layers to load, which doesn’t really help when I’m trying to work and get things done. 2, when scrubbing through my timeline while having multiple layers, the app will freeze when it gets to a part that has multiple layers. 3, there is a horrible lag whenever I try to add transitions. 4, when I add pictures or small videos to my timeline, the app will crash. Now, I don’t do many heavy things on this app. I use it to mainly for putting pictures together. I have an M1 iPad Pro so I know that these issues aren’t caused by hardware. I really do love using DaVinci Resolve. I just hope that these problems get fixed because I do not want to have to switch to another video editing software.
Calling this “unwieldy” is unfair to merely unwieldy apps. Imagine the most clunky, unwieldy app possible for an iPad —- and that would still be smoother, more efficient, and more intuitive than this piece of junk. To make matters worse — I had to buy the Studio version in order to access Magic Mask — the one feature that was tempting me to migrate to DaVinci Resolve. Imagine my disappointment when I found this feature to be barely-if-at-all functional!! But I thought —- maybe I can keep this from being a _total_ loss. I noticed that (unlike the other iPad options) this app has a scrolling-text function. Only problem is —- when I tried to highlight any significant swath of text, the text-field did not cooperate. Everyone’s talking about how awesome and game-chainging DaVinci Resolve is. But as for me, I am going to be sticking with FinalCut Pro and LumaFusion. I have already uninstalled this app from both my iPads — and as soon as I am able to, I am going to request a refund on the Studio version of this app.
Love Resolve but problem with 18.5 update. I’ve noticed since the update to 18.5 audio is about 20 frames off - audio is 20 frames early! I have had to adjust audio to sync with the video - in all pages. I have tried several files and they all have the same issue. Other than this, Resolve is fantastic. BTW, audio on Resolve on my iMac is fine - this is just an iPad Pro Issue (latest iPad Pro). Even with this issue, I still give Resolve 5 stars as it is an excellent app. I just have to adjust the audio track to match the video.
Wish I could do 5. This is a great option for iPad and I’m happy it’s free. I’m on a 10th Gen so some of the advanced features are not available. Still it’s very powerful. Only issue is it crashes sometimes 3x in a row and usually at least every few minutes like 2-3 luckily it seems to save the last state of the editor. Can’t complain really but I have to give 3 not 5 maybe they’ll figure it out. I don’t want to delete and reinstall and lose projects so I’ll live with it. Great program if you have an iPad Pro you should be sailing…
Imo, as of Oct 2023 - Final Cut has the edge. So much potential tho.. You swap from Lightroom to DaVinciResolve with a flick of your hand - the CX impossible on most machines that run this software. But not on the iPad - this is the reality we are fortunate enough to live in today. Here it is - the Resolve interface you know and love. You notice only two tabs on the bottom immediately - editing and color grading. FairLight is nowhere in sight (and fair enough), but nor is the file manager there, or the simplified clip view. Odd choice, but understandable - better have a stable build now, than later. Then, you try to fade in audio and realize - that is not a feature (yet, (hopefully)). Cropping on the M1 iPad Pro is comically laggy for 1920x1080p footage, and the overall CX of the NLE is just… off. Ex: You are guaranteed to try to move a clip, only to enter the ‘scroll selected portion of the source’ mode inside the clip. Verdict: Final Cut is clunky and I dont like it, but — it has more features of the desktop NLEs.
Bugs are too catastrophic. It is a good attempt and really not all that bad. It does only the basic stuff for now but really has potential. The problem is that in just 3 days, it has deleted my entire project. The app crashed and the project would not appear. I looked for it but it seems to be missing the file itself. No idea how that happened. This is unacceptable because I worked 2 days on it thus far. I’d be angrier if it was a 2 week project. THEN, today, it crashed again while color grading. I can’t open the project anymore. It crashes everytime I open it. I am now unable to finish this project. I have to start over, likely with a more reliable app. I am fiddling with this a bit longer to see if I can get it to work but a reset/reboot didn’t do the trick.
Just don’t…. I’m tired of crashing. It is not reliable. For a while, I’ve been looking for ways, googling up for better solution. Maybe close different apps and sign out from Blackmagic Cloud. But… to… no… avail… I think it is at its infancy, but I’m at my point where I’m not recommending anyone to fork over $95 for the Studio version. You are better off buying Macbook Air and be provided the full version of Davinci Resolve. Even more, the apps is limited to Edit and Color and there are some limitations on how to edit. Not to mention, if Apple is releasing Logic Pro apps, where is Fairlight?
Good editing-crashes A LOT on my ipad. There are a lot of features so there is definitely a learning curve to this which is great. I like the software but it crashes a lot when I am using on my ipad. If I am using it for two hours, it may crash about 10 times, luckily it automatically saves my work so I don’t have to redo anything, just re-opening the app and choosing my work many many times. I don’t know how to report it. I googled it and that looks like a time consuming process too, I just want to edit videos. I hope it gets fixed soon. Really like the software.
Efficiency and performance. I haven’t used it to its full extent but I wanted to write a quick review to make an issue known. During export, when you switch to a different app, the export progress bar disappears, without any indication whether it’s still exporting or not. After awhile it fails. While the progress bar disappears and you try to export again, it won’t let you; nothing happens. You would have to quit the app and try again. Developers need to fix this issue.
Bring all the pages and features of the computer version to the iPad!. Please continue to allow us access to all 7 pages and please continue to further develop the pages so that we can have all the same features that the computer (Mac/PC) version has. If that means I have to pay the $295 to have that, then so be it! Bring the full DaVinci Resolve experience to the iPad! Especially when no one else is giving us a powerful full fledged editor, aka Apple. This app is so powerful with all of its pages and features, without them it’s just another basic iPad editing app like iMovie, CapCut, etc.
In 20+ years this is my first app review.. In the 20 plus years and many thousands of dollars spent in the App Store, no program warrants such praise as BM DR. The fact that you can run the full program on an IPad was enough for me to make the jump at a time when money was questionable, going so far as to buy a maxed out iPad Pro. Liberating myself from the office desktop allowed me to see my 19 year film career in a different, less stressful light. The functionality of BM DR has truly allowed me to fall in love with this wild journey we call production yet again. Seriously, thank you.
Enhancing Global Usability: Arabic Subtitle Auto-Detection Feature Request. Dear DaVinci Resolve Development Team, I trust this message reaches you well. I am immensely grateful for your ceaseless endeavors in evolving DaVinci Resolve into a premier choice for video editing professionals, myself included. The software has significantly streamlined our video editing and production processes. Nonetheless, I’ve identified a potential enhancement: the inclusion of an Arabic subtitle auto-detection feature. This function is pivotal in catering to a global audience, especially amidst the growing necessity for multi-lingual content creation. Intriguingly, smaller-scale applications already embody this feature, highlighting its feasibility and importance. Incorporating this feature could broaden DaVinci Resolve’s user base and reinforce its standing as a comprehensive, user-centric software. I am hopeful that an Arabic subtitle auto-detection feature could be a valuable addition, fulfilling the diverse needs of the DaVinci Resolve community. I eagerly await any updates regarding this feature request and extend my gratitude for your consideration and continuous innovation. Warmest regards, Dr Ahmed Nazar
Great Editor but has a fatal flaw.. Great editor and provides a lot of tools for creating your project. I has a fatal flaw that other video editors do not have! I upgraded to the latest iPad Pro 13 inch and did the iPad to iPad setup when setting up the new iPad. I have 3 different video editors and 2 of them work flawless when bringing up on the new iPad. DaVinci editor, came up but could not find anything other than it’s projects and stated it had broken links on each of the projects. You would think that would not be a problem since there is a button to resolve broken links. The button is next to worthless since it just brings up a file dialog window and YOU the user has to guess where DaVinci buried the file it need under layers and layers of folders. I have searched both BlackMagic and the internet looking for a faster solution, with no resolve other than searching for each missing files.
Absolutely love it, but not the update. I absolutely love using DaVinci Resolve. I use it waaay more than any other editing software, but the most recent update has moved all kinds of things, and I am having many many problems that I didn’t before. I can’t even finish exporting any videos, it fails right at the end every time… please help and I’ll go back to 5 stars. Otherwise I’ll have to quit using it… no point if I can’t export.
Just ONE thing….. As a Resolve Studio user on PC, I love this. Performance on my M2 iPad Pro is fantastic. Only one thing, you cannot bring up the edit panel unless you have a physical keyboard connected to the iPad and you assign a shortcut to it. After all this time, I cannot believe this is STILL the case. Unreal. So, if I want to edit on my iPad, I must always remember to being a physical keyboard with me to open the edit panel. As unreal as that seems, that’s the case. Until it’s changed. And soon, I hope. Very soon.
Makes your iPad feel like a video editing machine. (Read if frustrated with not all pages). I’m not gonna lie there are some very specific workspaces this app can fit. If you have an iPad that slows down with normal tasks like checking the web I definitely would not recommend this app for you. I have and iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard and that is the only way this app works for me. However if you have something like that you feel would work I would recommend this. Now I will talk about an issue that I had but I resolved through a creative method, you do need some sort of keyboard you can connect to your iPad. I came from DaVinci Resolve for my Mac and was soon frustrated by the lack of pages, that is only the Cut and Color page. However if you press alt or option+command or control+k it will pull up a page that I’m not sure were supposed to be able to access. However, if you scroll all the way down you will find a drop down menu that says show page. From here you can create keyboard shortcuts for each page you want to show.
HEIC Photos not working. Ive enjoyed using the app, although it does have a pretty steep learning curve. There are certain things I hope the ipad version gets down the road, like being able to record audio from the fairlight? Tab, but the main issue I’m having right now is that all my HEIC photos are green, and messed up in a project that I've been working on for months. They were fine until recently, and when looking for answers I saw other people saying they are having the same issue on Mac as well, so not just an ipad issue. I have the studio version, but am pretty disappointed that one of the “features” that I paid to be able to use (HEIC photos I think are only in the studio version) isn't working, and with how much work it would take to convert all the photos, and re add them to the project makes this a pretty frustrating bug. I also saw someone mention on the resolve forums that this issue isnt a problem in the beta of V19, but I dont know when the update will be out of beta, let alone when that version might come to ipad. Other than the no audio recording, and this bug, I do think that resolve is the best app to edit videos on Ipad as of now. There are so many things you can do in resolve that no other app can do, just hope they continue to update, and refine the ipad version of resolve since its already great, but has so much potential to be the go to professional video editor on ipad.
A great editor, in a compromised, slightly buggy format. Having Used DaVinci Resolve for a few months now for my occasional video editing needs (and partially because I didn’t want to subscribe to Apple’s $50 a year for Final Cut Pro on iPad), I can say that I love how powerful this app is, but I hate how limiting and bug-prone it is. Though it does everything I could ever hope for a free version of a video editor to do, it doesn’t seem to play nicely on iPad in General. I’ve had move operations get ruined because I tried to drag and drop a clip too close to the edge of the screen, I’ve been kicked to the Home Screen every time I try to switch between the edit screen and the colors screen, and the big kicker - this app doesn’t seem to know how to play nice with AirPods. I’ve had to close and reopen the app several times and manually re-pair my AirPods to my iPad because it randomly decides to either stay silent, blast loud deafening static into my ears, or blare the audio out of the iPad’s speakers instead. I don’t regret giving this a try, but after I finish my current project, I’m going to try out Final Cut Pro on iPad just to see if it’s worth the recurring upfront cost.
Pretty great, except for software bug. I’m pleasantly surprised that Resolve runs smoothly on my 4th Gen iPad Air (although I am disappointed that I can’t export in 4k without upgrading to an iPad Pro). That aside, I stumbled across a possible software bug when editing vertical content: it is shrunken down and surrounded by a large black border that I can’t get rid of. I have already tried adjusting my project settings to 1080x1920, cropping the clips (doing so only zooms in to the clips without enlarging them), and adjusting the Retime/Scaling settings. Note that, regarding the black border, I’m not referring to the empty space that would otherwise be filled if the clips were horizontal. This problem, however, doesn’t occur when editing horizontal video. I figured that I was missing something or doing something wrong, so I imported vertical content into the desktop version of Resolve to see if the issue persisted. I used the same project settings I used on my iPad, but the desktop app displayed the vertical clips correctly. With that being said, I would appreciate having this software bug fixed so I can utilize the app fully. I’ve tried reinstalling the app, to no avail. I’m curious if other users have also experienced this problem.
Game Changing. This app is game changing! This is not a dumbed down version of resolve, it’s fully featured cut and color pages, and with cloud collaboration I can work on projects on desktop and iPad interchangeably. Can’t wait to see what BMD does with this app next! The deliver tab, and fusion tab would make this app nearly perfect. And maybe fairlight? And for free this app is a no brainer. Also I’m on a 2018 iPad pro, and have not run into any issues. So happy this is out!
Edited and Published my first video using this app, was awesome!. I am very happy with this app. I am suspecting more features are on the way but this was a great start. I created my first video using 4K footage from my Sony A7IV and multi-cam with some GoPro’s and I had no issues. Although I don’t normally use the cut tab, this forced me to try it and it turns out I really like using it. Very happy with this and for free, it’s amazing. I’ll be picking up Studio though. Very happy, thank you!
Very good with a keyboard. I am a YouTuber making videos… this was a big game changer my pc could not handle the power of DaVinci now my m1 iPad is rocking this without any difficulty. I know it’s still not fully released with all pages so using the other pages is ok but not smooth it crashes. But it should be fixed when the other pages are officially released. This is A great editing app for pro and casual user. Better than all the other “free” editing apps
Keep it up, great start!. So far, the app works great with the current features, although there are not feasible ways of doing very simple things, such as audio fades, but also the ability to use ultra key, like in Adobe Premiere Pro. Hopefully something like this can be added soon. Also the ability to scale the timeline would be great too, as it’s currently stuck in one viewing mode, or bringing edit mode to the iPad would fix this. Thank you guys, great job so far and keep going!! This app has the potential to even rival after effects in the industry at some point, but please keep fixing bugs and crashes as well!
Very basic and missing fundamentals. Well I was hoping that BMD would at least assure that their own software would work with their own cameras but as of now at least Resolve for iPad only supports BRAW but not the CDNG format many of their previous generation cameras shoot into. It sees files shot in CDNG as just stills and won’t import them properly as a clip for any of their older cameras. Also missing is the ability to add any custom 3D LUT’s at all, you are stuck with the basic LUT’s Resolve comes with, there’s no option at all to add any third party LUT files whatsoever. Hopefully they address both of these major issues, even if it requires me buying the Studio version, which I totally would if it supported both these features.
Adding mobile to a workflow. I’ve used this app to help with my video editing for most of a year, I stopped for a little bit while saving for a new iPad that I can edit in my preferred resolution with. I setup a cloud and folders for working between my desktops and iPad while on the road or otherwise not at home. The issue I have is temporary but annoying, I upgraded to 19 on my PC and Mac, for some of the features I use, however you can’t open 19 projects on the current iPad version, so until 19 is out of beta I can’t use my mobile workflow
Terrible 20.3.2 update. This last update (20.3.2) has too many bugs. Clips that I was able to edit before with no issues whatsoever, now crash the app constantly, simple changes in the Inspector also would make the app crash. I feel kind of disappointed that I paid for the full version of this app and the support it has received it’s indeed very minimal. Please fix it and, possibly let us have a complete access to important features in the other pages? Many of us would love to have a functional Fairlight page with its wonderful mixer and awesome effects. I don’t think it’s too much to ask. Thank you!
Nothing Short of Astounding..best tablet NLE in a big way. I have tried Final Cut on the iPad. I have tried Premiere’s version. They are total garbage in comparison to DaVinci. With DaVinci on iPad, you can actually WORK OFF AN EXTERNAL DRIVE! A must when iPads have very little onboard storage. Aside from that you can ACTUALLY FULLY EDIT AND COLOR GRADE—and that’s with the free version. Blackmagic has somehow found a way to successfully shrink down a fully useable version of their flagship software to work on a tablet interface. I’m shooketh. And no subscription fees?! Long live Blackmagic!!

Almost perfect. I was really hoping that shelling out for the studio version on the iPad would fix the issue where the edit page resets and is missing on start up. I have the keyboard shortcuts to bring it up, but I don’t have a keyboard attached to my iPad by default. It just feels like a bug. Every aspect of the desktop version is useable… but it defaults back to just the cut colour and deliver page at random.
Amazing editor for the iPad and it’s currently FREE!. You can’t really go wrong if you are looking for a fully powered video editing app for the iPad. The only downside is that if you are coming from a desktop app like Premiere Pro, there’s a little bit of retraining and getting used to how dVR works.
Crashes consistently. My whole project that I’ve been working on for weeks is just broken now. No errors. No clues. Can’t even open the project without the app just closing down. I just paid $150 for this!
Love it but please make the edit tab a permanent part of it. I know you can activate it using keyboard shortcuts but editing within the edit tab is so essential for some projects. I would not purchase the studio version if I knew you could only have the cut and colour tabs.
Great. Still crashes on start up. Not sure how to solve this. So much potential.
Nice. I only use it to stretch the video to full borderless ratio aspect, basically stretched video aspect ratio.
Expectations.. Surpassed my expectations.
Can’t import from photo library. Can’t import videos from photo library on iPad, so you need to upload from photo library to Dropbox, then download from Dropbox back to resolve. Clearly didn’t think about that usability issue.
New kid on the block. Move over lumafusion, this is free and more powerful. I use the studio version also and this is almost as good as the desktop one. More power to them, anything not needing a subscription should be supported. Go grab it.
Excellent on my M1 iPad. For those who have a crash problem (as I did), delete and re-download. Works just fine after that.
Scroll scrubbing on Magic Keyboard for iPad not working. The software is amazing… but the scrolling scrubbing of the timeline when using the magic floating keyboard’s trackpad feels off and inconsistent, it makes it very tricky to play the header were i need it to be to cut and edit footage… compared to somthing like LumaFusion, were the timeline moves perfectly with the swipe of your two fingers… allowing me to cut exactly were i want.. it also has some nice polish like inertia… making it feel more organic to scroll with… it would be awsome to see that scrolling bug/error/glitch fixed up… and with that fixed, I’d love to make this my main editing software!!!
Brilliant for version 1.0. This app is excellent for a version 1. I have had no crashes on my M1 12.9 iPad and the XDR touch screen with this app works very well. Especially with the Apple Pencil for fine control. You can see the other pages using keyboard shortcuts and the features are fantastic. Well done BlackMagic.
THIS APP IS GOOD. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Fixed after reinstalling. It was crashing first, but fixed after reinstalling.
Great. Editing is so fast with the magic pencil. just be sure to enable the complete functionality of Resolve through the shortcuts menu.
Love it. I have enjoyed using this on the desktop and I must say the translation to the iPad is really easy to use. It looks and feels identical which is amazing. A great example of a multi platform app. I have always found DaVinci resolve a great place to be creative and this version is no exception. It will be great to see all of it eventually appearing on the iPad.
The worst. This mite be the worst tech ever this. Is so trash do not by this app it broke a my device do not get this wast of time 👎if you get sick that’s a sign of the app
Fantastic. ALMOST as good as the desktop version!. This is THE BEST non-linear video editor for iPads. I have made many rims in this app. The desktop version is slightly better, only because there aren’t weird bugs in the ‘hidden pages’. To access these ‘hidden pages’, you need a keyboard. You press F3, F4, F5 etc. all the way to F7 and it puts extra pages on the bottom. This was (and still is) an absolute gamechanger. Even as it was (only Cut and Color) it is still a great NLE, but it really comes to life in the other pages (Media, Edit, Fusion, Fairlight and Deliver). Note that the other pages aren’t quite fully optimised for touch device yet, but they are still very usable and if you can’t work with your fingers in the other pages, you can use a keyboard and mouse like a Mac. One shouldn’t be ashamed about “almost as good as the desktop version” because iPads aren’t desktop computers and making an app this functional for an iPad is hard. One tip: You can delete the “DaVinci Resolve/CacheClip/“ folder can be safely deleted if you run low on storage.
I am using ipad 13 inch m5 256g, I cant use Depth Map fx. after updating to Davinci Resolve Studio 20, They stop me to use Depth Map feature, although I am using m5 ipad,
Wohaaa. I have the M1 pro with 16 ram , and even this monster sometimes struggles with this fantastic program, I have everything i want in this app and could not ask for more! I so much even prefer this over final cut or adobe premiere, Im just so damn happy that it is available for ipad !
Frustrating Experience DaVinci Resolve Not Stable on iPad Air M3. I was excited to use DaVinci Resolve on my iPad Air M3, but the app is not stable at all. After just a few minutes of normal editing, it starts to lag, freeze, or even crash completely. I specifically bought this iPad to use DaVinci Resolve on the go, but now it feels like a bad decision. The performance is disappointing, and the app doesn’t seem ready for real work on this device. I really hope future updates fix this, because right now, it’s not reliable at all.
doesn’t crash anymore. I know it’s not a recommended iPad, but would be good to at least open it and use HD footage as suggested.
Lacks a lot of file support (no R3D, DNXHD, DNG etc). It’s works amazing on iPad especially when you get the other tabs to show (Edit, Media, Deliver etc) but the lack of file support compared to the PC version as of writing this is frustrating and really limits to what camera media I can even edit. I primarily shoot on Red and use dnxhd proxies can’t edit either files so for now this version is useless to me until they update
so happy it’s finally on iPad!. It crashes a lot on 1st gen iPad Pro (especially when I try to drag an image to the timeline or if I play on 2x speed), but hopefully it’ll get better with future updates because this is a game changer for editing. Love Davinci on desktop. Can’t seem to export the project to finish editing on desktop though.
Unbelievably feature rich and free. Amazing to see how much they can fit into the app. Working well on my M1 iPad Pro - timeline and colour grading is excellent.
Great start. What a great start to Davinci on the ipad. Very impressed at the performance and capabilities on the 2018 12inch ipad pro. Yes some functionality is missing but finally a pro application. Adobe should take note on how to bring their application on ipad (just take a look at photoshop 🤦🏻
Encounter bug. I use this tool to edit my three videos, the first two were fine, I like this software, but starting from the third video, I don’t know why when adding sound clips to the timeline, there is no waveform visible so I can’t hear anything. I have to close DaVinci and reopen it to make it play normally. Same problem also appeared when I cut a part of the sound clip, it is gone on the timeline, but when playing the video, I can still hear the music. Again, I have to close the tool and reopen it to make it play normally. I haven’t found any way to solve this yet. Very frustrated at the moment.
Works AMAZING on my A12X 2020 iPad Pro 11inch!. I have no idea why this iPad model isn’t listed as recommended, it’s fast, it works well, it has no crashes, I was even able to get it to export a 4K video at 60fps, even though it said it was limited to HD! Once again, amazing app, amazing concept, amazing execution, although I would like to see an update with a friendlier UI at one point!
Crashes on startup 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9. Understanding this app says it’s optimised for M series chips, and limited on older devices, just to let the devs know it crashes on my 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9 on startup. I have attempted restarting the iPad without any success. Rating 5 stars just because I haven’t actually been able to use the app but I love the PC version. Cheers!
This needs some work.. You see, I LOVE this editing software, I use it for all my videos ever since I switched from CapCut. But there's a glaring issue when it comes to editing: the constant crashes. On my iPad gen 9 (iOS 18) the app crashes a lot during editing. Some examples are: when I scroll too fast through the timeline, add 3+ clips into the timeline at once, remove a large part of the editing, do ANY kind of colour grading, and even when I do NONE of that, the app will eventually crash. I'd say my iPad's performance with multitasking and other apps is ok, but with this app, it JUST can't handle it. Please fix!
Needs fusion integrated. Only missing a star because fusion is missing
Keeps crashing. New iPad with 18 IOS and the app just keeps crashing
Actually works on a 9th gen iPad. I’ve been using DR18 on an M1 iMac, so was curious to see if it would work on my 64GB 9th gen iPad. It does. Okay it’s not going to have all the features (hence the 4 stars), but it’ll do for quick edits and colour grades. I find it easier to use than Lumafusion too.
Excellent. Davinci Resolve on iPad has transformed my mobile workflows.
AMAZING. This is simply amazing to see Blackmagic put Davinci Resolve on iPad. Looking forward to see the future update with more codec supported.
Too many sound problems. The sound sometimes plays too fast. Sometimes it’s distorted. Sometimes the sound doesn’t work, fix the problems Man.
The app is not perfect yet. The app is definitely a game changer for iPad but needs improvement. I have iPad Pro M1, 1T, 11” and the app constantly freezes for no reason.
Lost all edits after crashing. Spent 3 hours manually adding tracking nodes as the automated feature is not available on the iPad version, and after spending hours working on the project it crashes and deletes all data points. Very frustrating, do not recommend.
Import from photo app. Would love to see an import from photos app in a future update. Awesome job with how pro this is.
Outstandingly smooth. Became a recent fan of Davinci Resolve on my Macbook. But as I’m a traveling journalist, living full-time in a Ford Transit van, even more portability is critical. With the Cut and Colour pages, I’m as happy as a pig in poo! Damn well done, BMD. Works incredibly smoothly on my new 12.9” M2 iPad; and the reason I bought that device was specifically to run this software. To the whingers out there, get the right hardware and reap the benefits of awesome software. Thanks, BMD.
Just what was needed.. Just what was needed. I’d been hanging out for FCP on iPad. This works a treat and will likely convince me to move to Resolve on Mac as well.
App is worst. Always crashing not able to edit any video especially after new update
Turn off Stage Manager and redownload. Anyone having issues with it crashing on startup needs to delete the app, turn off stage manager and download the app again. Don’t start DaVinci Resolve with stage manager enabled. Thanks to the Blackmagic team for the Christmas present. :)

This App is the only reason I bought an iPad. This is the best, most feature rich, and useful app in the app store as far as I am concerned. I don;t just mean editing. The only issues I have, are with Apples useless UI, but hopefully the next version of the OS will allow me to continue to render if I accidentally press the Expose button or I allow the screen to turn off. I honestly bought the ipad for this app primarily. I needed something super compact and portable, and I wanted to be able to animate drawings which is why. I skipped the Macbooks
Fix for crashing while starting app. If you have trouble with this app crashing while starting. First, delete the app. reboot your iPad, then reinstall the app. This should fix everything and it will start right away.
Always crashing. Not working properly and always crashing, i deleted and reinstalled the app like some advice i watched in YouTube but still the same, i am using the Ipad 12.9 inch M2. This is a bad app i lose the video i already edited, this app giving me frustration.
No voice over still?. Still impossible to record voice over in the app on iPad. Will stay on CapCut for now unfortunately
Mixer doesn’t work,……WHY?. Mixer doesn’t work…..WHY? When will you fix it?
Good, but not good enough. I’m grateful for Black Magic to offer this IPad version, and it really made working with iPad possible. However, I don’t understand why blocking some of the function, considering it was basically just Mac version with a different UI. I really need an update of Support for R3D raw files, which is already supported in other versions. It would be great if it supports those files.
5 star but…. When you install the app for the first time. It’s very confusing and you have to lsearch on youtube on how to upload videos, trim, edit, add text etc. I think it would be nice if there were a quick and easy guide on how to use davinnci resolves
5-Star App. This app is a 5-Star app. It works brilliantly on an M1 iPad Pro.
Arnaque!.
Professional level edititing. I’ve used both Premiere pro, and rush, but I always come back to DaVinci resolve. I still can believe it’s free
The pro app the iPad needed!!!. Very happy to see Davinci Resolve on the iPad. Can’t wait to color a project with my Apple Pencil! The only inconvenient I have so far is the path mapping not working. I have to relink manually all my files when working on a network project. But the fact that my network project works on day 1 is crazy! Thank you for that. Love the undo, redo and delete buttons in the left corner. Would love to see some more buttons there or customise it.
Probably works better on a newer iPad. It crashes a lot on my 8th gen ipad, but I don’t really blame the app, it’s most likely the age of my iPad. I’m sure it’s works better on a m1 ipad.
No option to restore purchase on ipad. There is no option if we want to restore the in app purchase and I tried calling blackmagic studio they said it’s not there department go to fourms and check there.
Works well Runs Great. I was surprised it runs well on my slightly older iPad but it opens and runs really well overall a great app to have I really appreciate it and having it more accessible on the go is a truly amazing experience and a true blessing to have thanks
UNBELIEVABLE!!!. Cannot belive this is FREE!?! And how much you can do on an iPad now?! Honestly… mind BLOWN 🤯
Profesional work done on iPad. It’s amazing how this kind of apps been around for years and for the past few years there’s been an amazing development on the OS and platforms so we can have access to this kind of software in an iPad. Even if sometimes it lacks of smoothness or video rendering problems at least on my iPad Pro M2. It is still an amazing feature to have on a device like this
Really good app. So okay, initially there were many bugs, but what app doesn’t have those when coming out. I would tell you to use this app with an M1 or M2 chip since it will utilize its video encoding sections which help a LOT with fluidity. I’ve been using DaVinci Resolve for 10 years just for fun and I’m so happy that black magic are still working hard to offer the best they possibility can and offer this wonderful editing software on the IPadOS ecosystem. If you’re unsure, take a look at latest 18.5 update (newest at the time of writing this). They work hard for us. Let’s all use this app and produce wonderful content or just have fun with it. Peace.
Crashing during playback or color correcting. Using the UI is very smooth, the problem is that it crashes very frequently especially when scrolling through the footages and when doing some color correction. It would work for 30mins and would just crash. I've tried uninstalling the app twice, but it doesn't seem to have helped at all. I made sure to have davinci resolve as the only thing running Please help, I bought an iPad solely to be able to use this. Any way to reach out to customer support?
iPad Pro M1. I see a lot of lack lustre reviews. This is an extremely powerful piece of editing software that just recently would have been unthinkable to operate on a mobile device. I have done some very complex edits on this, in line with what I would achieve on my M1Max desktop. Smart masking, noise reduction, voice isolation, speed warping. It is quite astounding. I would not recommend running this on anything below the M1 and if you are rating a FREE version of software that is THIS capable you should just move on and zip it and download something more simplistic. I can professionally edit and color grade Video anywhere?? Bonkers.
Pretty darn bad on an iPad Air 4 (2020). If you own anything lower than an M1 iPad, don't go down the rabbit hole that is Davinci Resolve on iPad, LOL. They do give you a warning at app launch and now I understand why. On my iPad Air 4 - which IMO should be totally adequate for a video editing app - Resolve crashes fairly regularly and editing and the interface go weird. All frustrating. In which case, I recommend Luma Fusion (though yes it's a pay-for app). CapCut is also good, though limited in export/rendering options. Ah, I really wanted Resolve to work.
Runs Fine. I bought a new iPad Pro 11 inch (4th Gen) with M2 so I could use this. Looking forward to learning it. I could use a tutorial for all the features even though I am familiar with the Studio version on my computer. I think the warning about whether it will work on non-M1/M2 devices is worth heeding. Don’t be disappointed by something that you’ve been told would have troubles on a less than capable(for this app) device.
Amazing app. I use it for simple edits but am totally impressed with the capabilities
Love Hate. Love using DaVinci on iPad. However the bottom icon tray for the various windows isn’t programmed well and the iPads feature of going to Home Screen (when swiping bottom of screen) overrides it. These icons should be raised up a little bit in order to avoid this nuisance.
5 stars but. it need stage manager support.
Add drop file directly from file app like a desktop version!. File management is so bad on iPad. I can’t simply drag and drop file from other app to media pool, which was very big trouble tedious process on iPad .and the touch function sometimes have some bugs . overall function is so powerful just like the desktop version but really needs some minor improvement. Minor but very important. And another point I wanna mention is I really hope I can connect to a monitor and the whole main edit page show on the monitor screen ,and take iPad screen as a video clean feed ,like a second screen. this function works very well on desktop version.
Almost perfect. Just needs more stability on the rest of the pages (edit, fusion, etc….) and I would love to be able to zoom to pinch the timeline, but other than that it’s perfect. P.S. I’m a paid user for it and use it professionally on desktop, but this is perfect for my iPad and on the go work. If you’re a new user, this is the industry standard to learn on and the free version will take you where you need to go.
ADD all pages bottom IPad (Request). I love it but I wish you to add more tools like in the laptop because it is missing in iPad. Please update it. I hope you saw this and consider it. I’m having hard time to zoom in and zoom out timeline. Especially long video. I don’t want to use keyboard to pop out the all pages
barely working. useless trash port
Not totally happy.. This is supposed to run on my ipad (8th gen) with limitations and I understand that. I didn’t think a limitation would be adding a cross disolve to a single jpeg and a short video. Continuously crashes without being able to save my work. Reinstalled and the same thing keeps happening. Another disappointment is the UI change in the studio version which I decided to buy on the ipad due to lower price. On the mac version, to get the subtitle feature, I think you right-click on the file and choose to get the text. On the ipad, rather than a long press which brings up options, all of a sudden, I need a keyboard and a keyboard shortcut. I don’t normally travel with a keyboard, so I can’t use the feature. Can you change it?
No timeline zoom and more issues.. I might be really missing something here given the positive reviews, but the time line is so unintuitive and difficult to manage. The most simple task of moving clips around became impossible. Click, drag and drop, that’s how simple it should be, however if I attempt to drag a clip on the bottom video channel it attempts to move all those above and doesn’t actually move anything when released. I haven’t successfully been able to make an arrangement of clips after trying for 30 minutes. I gave up. And the inability to zoom on the timeline really makes this a quite poor. It’s a shame given all the other great features. I’ll bite the bullet and pay for the other 40$ editor on the App Store.
Unusable, disappointed. I love DaVinci Resolve so much that I paid for studio right away, but it’s practically unusable. Not only did it keep on crashing on my iPad Pro 13” 2025 while doing simple color grading, the audio processing UI is straight up bugged and doesn’t update until I close it and reopen it. I can’t even enter the value since it doesn’t even bring up the keyboard when I tap on it. And so many features are hidden, like importing footage from the photos app. Or need to be activated with an external keyboard. I’m gonna have to stick with the PC version of DaVinci Studio until BM fixes this unusable iPad version. I am truly truly sad and extremely disappointed. Got my hopes up for a huge disappointment. I don’t even know if I’m gonna bother with the free version. Getting 3 crashes in a row demolishes my workflow. Might as well use the PC version.
The Davinci Resolve on iPad is what I was ALMOST looking for.. Let’s just be honest here… We want this app to editing, color correcting, and all of this stuff… it is great to work outside of my main station: my PC. But when I say “almost”, there were some numbers of things that are still missing and hoping on one thing: the “edit” section. That one thing that I need the most. To move clips, adding music or sound effect, motion caption, etc! And other thing… I already bought a studio version from my PC, and you guys just told us to my another licence for this device? Like come on! Give us an update so we can spend one activation code on this device. If you’re like me, and just want to edit video with your heavy 4K raw footages while offline from your trip, this is it! Sure, you’ll experience crashes (forgot to mention one. Fix it.), but it is for what you get to edit and such (for now).
Magic Mask Simple doesn’t work on my IPAD M4 13 inch. I really want to love this app. It had so much bugs but My primary issue is that I paid for the Studio version for the Magic Mask feature and it just doesnt work at all.
Amazing Free Video Editor. I am finally able to edit my vacation videos on my iPad! Very easy to import from an external SSD and export without ever taking up my precious internal storage. Thanks Black Magic!
Feature request. Could you please optimize the app to take full advantage of external displays because right now it does not support full screen mode on external displays and when you stretch out the tab as big as you can, it just magnifies everything instead of proper using the space on the screen this would be awesome
Outstanding except. Timelines can get big fast. There is no bar, like on the desktop, to shrink or expand the timeline. Or perhaps there is and I’ve missed it. I just see the scrubbing buttons. Other than that, it’s great.
Check compatibility. App opens and works flawlessly on 2022 iPad Pro M2. I see some of the people giving negative ratings are trying to use it on unsupported devices. Do your homework. So happy to finally have desktop video editing power on a tablet! Bravo Blackmagic. Now step up and bring us the same for audio Apple! Logic Pro please!! 😉
Not ready for prime time. Ver. 20 and still cannot add audio tracks without significant work arounds. Its potential is obvious but this issue is, for me, a show-stopper.
If its good enough to do broadcasting assignments with its good enough for your YouTube. Why are you even looking at reviews this studio production quality software is free to tinker with just install it free yourself from the clutches of adobe
Works flawlessly. Worked without a glitch in my iPad Air 4 on first attempt! Those one-star reviews must be trying to bring down the rating, can’t believe they’re innocent!
Lightbox is gone from V20 on IPad!. I don’t understand the decision to remove Lightbox from the IPad version. It was a tool that I used extensively and as a paying customer I find this outrageous.
Contributing to programmed obsolescence. App was great until this last update. I edit on iPad Pro, the version before M1, so I can only edit in 1080p, which I’m ok with. After the last update however, a popup screen mentioned that I would not have access to all functions since I am not using an M1 chip iPad - however, attempting to edit a 14 seconds long video using 7 small jpegs (and not heavy video) makes the app crash after every action. The iPad is still perfectly capable of doing what it did before, but I now feel forced to buy a new machine, which contributes to our incessant need to replace technology and create more waste. Disappointing.
Instructional tool. As an instructor to young students, I promote DaVinci Resolve as an essential app. It’s easy and free to learn, and as a tool used by professionals, it is effective in helping the students achieve their chosen career plans.
Fix problem. The app crashes every 2 mins and it’s annoying and I have lost my progress more then 3 times
Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!
Pro Level Software For Free!. It amazes me how functional and full featured this App is. Realize that this app can import from and export to desktop. It will also keep all fx transitions and setting just as you left them. Thats pretty wild! I really enjoy the iPad work flow a lot now that I am getting used to it. I almost enjoy working on iPad more than desktop!
Keeps crashing. I’ve had DaVinci for months and it’s almost unusable. It constantly crashes, video editing is out of the question so I only do audio editing now and use a different software for video. And even then it won’t stay open consistently. Sometimes I can use it for days with only a crash here and there and other days I can’t use it for more than 2 seconds before it crashes. I learned how to use the software only for it to be unusable. Don’t recommend as it is. It’s a good software for computer, but not mobile.
Amazing!. I had never used DR even on a desktop before. Used LumaFusion on iPad. Hands down DR is the best mobile video editor. I am using a pre-M1 iPad Pro and it is a great experience still! Keep up the great work. I will be getting an M2 MacBook Pro soon and looking forward to using both.
Off to a great start.. iPad Pro m2 12.9. Works nicely with xdr display. Every thing seems to be there except options on export. No control over data rate or anything else. Sure it’s in the works to add full export functionality. To bad apple just won’t make iPad Pro that runs Mac OS. Plenty of hardware resources on m2 iPad to run that.
Super broken app, not worth the money unless they fix it. I will give this app 5 stars when they fix the horrible inconsistencies with the keyboard and touch. This is NOT an iPad issue, it’s the developers not caring about us. Fix your shortcuts, make them work correctly and document it. Stop hiding features behind poorly chosen/non standard shortcuts. FIX the bugs we report, there have been so many timeline, setting, and UI bugs that completely block workflows that haven’t been fixed for years. It’s embarrassing. This app is NOT worth $100 when all this is still broken.
Caveat. A really nice video editor with a couple of caveats. First, be sure that the versions on your Mac and iPad are the same, otherwise your editing and project on the iPad cannot make the round-trip back to your Mac. Also, the smaller timeline above the larger view is a bit of a pain because I keep hitting it by mistake and jumping around to the wrong place. Other than that, this video editor presents amazing functionality and possibilities.
So close. I really want to like this app. As it is essentially the same desktop app shrank down very efficiently. But it crashed constantly in my iPad air fourth generation. Even though it is supposedly already limiting the performance and features available due memory constraints. I might just need an upgrade, but I think they should just let people know that the app won’t actually work at all on “older” devices. I struggled with a very simple 10 seconds HD edit.
18.5 Fusion page crashes on my iPad. Hi. DaVinci Resolve is more than fine for me. In the 18.5 update, all the pages like Edit, Cut, Colour, Fairlight is working fine. However, Fusion page doesn’t work. Whenever I open Fusion on my 2020 iPad Pro, it crashes, which previously worked just fine. I also have couple of projects made on Fusion page on my iPad. Please fix this issue. Thank you
Thumbs up for blackmagic. But I hardly use cut page on desktop it might come in handy in the future but for now I need edit page even if it doesn’t have all the features of the desktop but be to have edit is a plus on the got.. I give 3.5 star for the effort and layout but not a solution for me yet…
Great app: execution is ok. Many bugs and glitches among things that are just not translated well to a touch screen. I’ve closed a project and lost it completely because the app claimed I need a paid version to open or edit. I just lost 2 hours of my life editing on this unless I wanna pay 95€ to get access to it!?!?!?
App crashes constantly.. Title says it all, but i’ll go into further detail. i’ve been trying to use Davinci for a little while now, and every single time i do basically anything, it crashes. all it takes to crash the app is a singular image file and one, count ‘em, ONE. transition. i’ve tried the “delete the app and re-install it” thing. still crashes. I don’t know what the problem is, but it’s really getting on my nerves. i genuinely can’t get any work done in the app cause it crashes before i can do anything. I’ve seen one review that said they lost 2 hours of progress because the app crashes, but i can’t even get two *minutes* of work done because it crashes the second i breath a little weird. 🙄
Randomly Locks Projects behind a Paywall. I was excited to try DaVinci Resolve, so I downloaded it and started playing around a bit. Imagine my surprise when I tried to open my (very simple) test project and got the following message: "DaVinci Resolve Studio Required!" "This is a more advanced feature that needs the DaVinci Resolve Studio version..." This project only has a couple simple clips and basic adjustments. Now, I can't even open it in Read Only mode! Now, I know this is obviously a glitch, but it is HIGHLY concerning that the "default" would be to lock you out of your content. Any error must fall back to the safest option, and in NO CIRCUMSTANCES is it acceptable to prevent you from accessing a project you've already created. Absolutely not ready to be trusted for professional work... or ANY work, to be honest.
Cmd+Option+K to Unlock all the missing Edit, Fusion, Fairlight and Deliver pages. On the shortcut page scroll down to the bottom and find Show Page. And from there, set the shortcut key for all those missing pages and you will see them magically reappear! Absolutely love Davinci Resolve for iPad. A super powerful video editing tool that is changing the industry.
WOW. So yea…. Come on Apple Fcpx should have an app. I might just have to finally make the switch. This is a full working version. Was able to import FX6 footage right from card. Interested to see how far they go w this app. So far im pretty stoked
Great app, but please fix vertical video bug. I was really disappointed when found out that vertical videos surrounded with a black frame. I tried to resize videos or change resolution manually but black frame is still there. All the above applicable only for vertical videos. Please fix the bug so full capacity of this great app can be utilized!
A dump truck with a mercedes engine.. I don't know about iPad Pro, really. Any time I use "Smart Warp" when interpolating frames, this device crashes to desktop as soon as I hit render. I blamed it on heat buildup, but this is now happening with my iPad Pro sitting on a chilled gel pad to pull heat out of the device (which has abysmal cooling and tries to convince you "the M1 doesn't need it") I am not trusting iPad Pro as a serious work station. Maybe the Mac book does better but this tablet running a hyped-up PHONE OS isn't working for me.
Nothing but headaches ON IPAD M4 Pro 13inch. If you have a simple edit meaning no audio adjustments no cutting clips and re arranging you might be good with this. I have been editing on resolve for years on MacBook Pro and it works great. This IPad version is for the birds. Nothing but glitches and keyframes deleting themselves. Audio mysteriously disappears over and over again. I tried an edit over and over and over and over again thinking it’s ME, but it’s Definitely THEM! I’d say stick to your TikTok editor or whatever you use on iPad, this AINT IT!
convenient. i use it quite frequently just got it today when i wanted to make a video. just one issue, some things are a little overwhelming also if you could add Pinterest as an export option and just a few more? thanks otherwise best free software probably
Love DaVinci except on my iPad. I absolutely love DaVinci Resolve except it crashes and shuts down literally every 5 minutes or so. The iPad is less than a year old and has been virtually unused. I look forward to getting a laptop this year so hopefully I can use this program without the frustration of having to walk away from it so that it and I can cool down.
Please add groups to the Color page. The app is great, but as the color page is a major part of this release, it's missing a major feature: groups. Please add groups asap! I'd really love to use the iPad for color correction on the go, but without this I can't justify upgrading to the studio version here.
Update: Will run on iPad 4th gen after delete and reinstall. I’m on an iPad Gen 4 with 1tb of storage. At first it wouldn’t even start but after a delete and reinstall, it’s working but in limited HD mode. Some tools are said to be limited as well but I’ll find out what those are soon enough.
Why doesn’t sync align audio and video?. This by far my favorite video editing app, but when I try to sync my audio and video, why don’t they align? Instead, they are placed one after the other on the timeline. Other than that, it’s a near flawless editing tool for the iPad.
Rediculous bugs, good app.. Okay, so Devinci is great. However, since the most recent update, the app has been bugging out. It has been crashing almost immediately upon opening, and randomly distorting the colors of all my clips drastically. I’m trying to work on a video and I’m exasperated at this point. I have no idea what to do, and their support system is weird. Please fix this! (Also, please ignore the weird name, i swear im not six 💀)
Garbage. Is it normal in 2025 for tools and icons to be completely unresponsive? I’ve been using After Effects, 3D, and the full gamut of graphics software for 10+ years including full stack web development and I’ve never seen such a baffling UI. It should not be this complicated to achieve basic tasks in a video editing application. Yes it can be deep and have a steep learning curve but if the most basic tasks are inscrutable you should reconsider your approach.
Extended desktop support. Super cool to see a fully featured editing suite on the iPad! However, it looks like Resolve doesn’t make any use at all of the extended desktop support in iPadOS 16. The UI just scales to get larger on my 27-inch monitor; it isn’t actually responsive like I would expect (and would be way more useful for a pro app like this). I hope that support will be coming soon.
Seems good. The app seems good, but the ipad optimization is horrible. You have to have a keyboard to get to the ‘extra’ pages like the edit page, and you have to do this every time the app starts up. To make it worse, once I open the pages the app crashes, maybe its just my ipad, idk. I can’t even really use this app for my purposes since it doesn’t have the features i need without those pages, so this is honestly disappointing.
A welcome addition to ipad. I’ve been waiting for a long time for this app to come to the iPad. While it doesn’t have all the features of the Mac version it is a very good initial introduction. I also like that it works with my speed editor.
Still feels like a late beta. I’ve been using LumaFusion for years and love its simplicity. However, it lacks quite a few features that prevents it from being a true FCP replacement. DaVinci Resolve has almost all of those features and then some, but it’s going to take some getting used to. My other complaint is that it’s got some bugs and it doesn’t fully support external monitor on iPadOS 16 (that seems like a major oversight). I had to delete and reinstall to get it working again.
Oh My God. Starting up a channel is hard but with DaVinci editing isn’t I thought my lack of a good computer would limit my editing capabilities but I was wrong despite some aspects not being readily available all the pages on the computer version are accessible if you know where to look and how to look truly the best
Painfully hard to use. I started using DaVinci for a school project and thought hey maybe making a few personal projects but nope. This buggy crashing mess is horrible. On its own the tools are great and while a little confusing at first you get used to it but I don’t recommend using it until these bugs get resolved. Constantly while I was editing it would crash and reset, shift audio and markers to different spots, and it constantly would lag as I worked on something. Overall don’t use it.
💡📊❕. Developers, I have a suggestion for an enhancement to your video editing software: a customizable sound visualizer tailored for audio tracks. This feature should allow users to adjust visual elements like color schemes, waveform shapes, and intensity to match different audio tracks. The visualizer would ideally react dynamically and in real time to the audio, providing an engaging audio-visual experience. Including settings for frequency response and visual complexity would be beneficial. Such a feature would not only enhance your software’s functionality but also give users creative freedom to visually represent their audio tracks in unique ways. Thank you for considering this suggestion. I believe it would be a valuable addition for many users.
can’t use the effect in color page…. Load a video to the track;do some basic adjust, when I want add some effect in color page ,tap the menu doesn’t work all the time,my iPad Type air 5
The Verdict is still Pending. As I continue to evaluate the app and its features and functions versus other similar apps (one in particular that is very good), I find myself having difficulty getting the transition function to work consistently. I’ve been at the evaluation for about one and 1/2 weeks now including watching how-to videos and giving the app the benefit of doubt. But thus far I am not convinced to replace my favorite video editing app with this one. To be continued…
Crashes on launch. I’m sure this is a terrific program. However, on my iPad Pro it crashes every time I launch the app. Hopefully an update is on the way to fix this issue. I agree with one of the other reviewers about having the iPad app, be identical to the desktop app, but obviously, with the only difference being the touch interface of the iPad.
Keeps crashing, losing work. No matter what I do. iPadOS 26 m4 iPad. Between the iPadOS update and the DaVinci Resolve update, it’s very buggy. The most frustrating thing is that when it crashes you lose the work you’ve done. PSA: If you notice your “undo” actions are not working, chances are it will crash, and you’ll lose your work. If you notice “undo” isn’t working, try to save your work, then completely close out DR, and see where you are. I’ve even had to restart my iPad a few times. And I’m on the Pro 4
Crashes. I downloaded DaVinci sometime ago to edit art videos, and no matter what I do the app crashes constantly. I will open the app, do one thing to a video clip, and DaVinci crashes. Over and over to no end. I thought perhaps it’s because of my iPads storage? So I offloaded 120gb of stored data (csp is quite the hog sometimes) only to try an edit a video and have it crash again! I’m at my wits end, the iPad version simply doesn’t work for me.
Productive and easy to interface with.. The only drawback to this app is the amount of time I have realized I have wasted in other apps (and combinations of apps) trying to diy similar results. For me Luma Fusion has worked the best and had almost the same basic features and effects as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere. *I never could get DaVinci to resolve any of his issues, so he ended up living his last years in despair**
Insanely good, and data not collected! Just need audio plugin support please.. As the title says, this app is insanely good, powerful and I’m just waiting for this iPad version to support external audio plugins so that I can pull the trigger on the paid version. Oh, and did I say that they don’t collect your data? This is a top notch developer.
Amazing app but needs features. This app for the tablet is just like the app for the desktop but its missing some gestures for zooming and most importantly it seems to be missing the 3D Scene features which i believe the ipad pro M4 is totally capable of doing! Good luck and please implement 3D!
Incredible.. Absolutely incredible, even as a first-time user. Started learning Resolve on v19, but switched over to Mac after a bit as I was running into crashes with Fusion and bugs in Fairlight. Haven’t used the app on iPad since, but I’m hoping these things are…Resolved in v20.
The Haters know Nothing…. Well… they might know something. It is lacking all the pages besides cut and color (as of july 24). You can get around this with some clever thinking and tutorials, but still. Everything is absolutely splendid and near perfect when you access the other pages, but a few things don't quite work right. 3D Keyer and Tracking, mostly. I know that they are technically not yet supported, but just keep in mind that if you are going to download this before the full version is released, there will be a few small problems. Nothing important though! I absolutely love Davinci Resolve for IPad :D
An exciting starting debut!. An exciting starting point for a software that has only given me joy from the beginning. Hard to learn, easy to use when you get practice. The best thing about the IPad version is that it looks a lot like its older version on Mac/PC, which makes it easier to handle. Still in an early stage, it promises a lot. In my case, as a journalist, I can make a video with interviews, voice over, and film material in record time.
It works great!. I would suggest adding more of the desktop features to the mobile version, but the functionality it has works perfectly! It only crashes when my iPad can’t handle the amount of footage I’m using, but that’s just because I have an older iPad. I’ve never lost any footage or editing because of a crash.
Works but takes patience due to crashing … a lot. So I’ve been using since it has been released on iPad. I also use the Mac Version which never crashes… So the only downfall to the iPad version is that if crashes, a lot and that you can’t send has issues with exporting project complete on MacBook. It works now don’t get me wrong but I haven’t been able to complete a video without it crashing. I’m not sure if it’s because its a beta version for 18.5 for the iPad or if its my iPad Air 5 but something has to be done.
Get Full Version. Connect a keyboard to your iPad and use the shortcut Option+Command+k This opens your keyboard shortcuts. On the right side scroll all the way down to the “Open Page” section. Assign shortcuts to open every single page. Then exit the keyboard shortcut page and use your shortcuts to open the media, edit, fusion, fairlight, and deliver page!!!
Almost perfect. This is Blackmagic in every way, almost perfection. The app is 98% just like the PC version of it. Im missing little things but this are starting to bother after a couple weeks of use. It desperately needs a Menu bar to access all the options that are not mapped by default. I believe the potential is infinite and new versions will only get better.
Great Start. I can see where your headed and I must say I for one love it. No it’s not as good as the desktop version but this is only day one and your already the best tool on the market when it comes to color grading.
iPad needs more of THIS not full macOS. Glad to see full desktop apps finally making their way to iPad to make use of the M series chips. Hopefully they add the other pages in future updates.
Missing Fusion. This is an amazing app, It runs way better on my iPad Pro than on my MacBook from from the year before. Unfortunately the app in missing its most important part from the desktop version. FUSION. Without this it makes this app/program no better than any of the hundreds of other video timeline tools out there. Even if it was included in the Pro($99) version that would be worth it.
Awesome. This is a great app! I was able to connect the speed editor and edit on my M1 11 inch iPad with no glitches. There are more profession features here and the muscle memory from DaVinci on a computer transitioned nicely to the iPad. In order to pay for studio, you need to use a studio only feature in the app. I am looking forward to seeing how it develops over time!
