enjoying the app overall but few bugs. I am running into issues with the files not uploading to Blackmagic cloud. It just sits there not doing anything. Also it is not easy to sync the files to Dropbox. I have to manually copy file over to Dropbox in order to get them to sync with my Blackmagic cloud pod. documents is limited on how to set all this up.

First version feels polished. For a first iteration of an app, this seems incredibly stable, robust with features, and easy to use. Having built in luts day one is awesome, so many exposure tools, great codec options, good color, and the list goes on. Amazing work Blackmagic team! I only have 4 criticisms (or more like recommendations). My first criticism is I wish there was a way to tap to focus without also turning on auto exposure. Its terrible when you have everything locked in, then you tap to focus and now your exposure is messed up. Second criticism is that it uses a histogram for exposure. I wish I could change that to a wave form. Wave form is more useful as a quick reference when exposing the whole frame and find myself relying less and less on histograms. My last request is I hope we get a 10bit log codec for older iPhones (the 14 can handle a 10bit log file proven by other apps). Would be nice to push the colors a bit more and see if we could squeeze a bit more dynamic range out of the iPhone sensor. Overall, amazing app so far and I’m excited to see updates pushed out in the future. I cannot imagine filmic pro being happy about this app not only being free, but being better in many ways. Considering the filmic app is a subscription (an expensive one at that), many users will be jumping to this immediately.

Can’t figure out how to enable LOG on my 15 Pro Max. I just received my new iPhone today but don’t see any setting to enable LOG recording, just SDR & HDR, but hopefully now that the phones are out Blackmagic will address this. Also there’s a big bonus to using this app if you want to record 60 fps ProRes, as unlike using the stock camera app, this allows for 60 fps ProRes internally up to ProRes 4444!

Great app! Especially for free and no data mining.. I did inadvertently select Timelapse during a trip in the sub menus and didn’t realize while recording so perhaps some indicator would be nice. Also, like the native app (unless I’ve missed something), an active level indicator would be nice as well. Please and thanks! 😁

A must have app for mobile filmmaking. Whether you are familiar or not with blackmagic menu systems, this is really simple to use and a lot of features packed into a free app. It’s too good! I’ve always wanted a reliable app whenever I’d want to film something with my phone. You can load luts. Nice! First thing I noticed was that when you zoom you don’t get that exposure and weird jitters when jumping from ultrawide lens, then to wide and medium as you do in the regular camera app. I can’t wait to explore the message system in the app. Everything is just so clean as usual with BM products. Landscape video in portrait mode!. There are so many great user interface improvements compared to other camera apps, but for me the stunner is being able to hold the phone securely in portrait mode while shooting landscape video. No more fingers in the frame, shaky shots, or dropped phones!

Amazing Out of the Gate w 2 notes. This is phenomenal. Download it. But there’s a couple issues with advanced operations. For the Naming Convention, the user needs to be able to set the camera number or letter, and that should be included in the file name when choosing BlackMagic Convention. Shooting from two phones with two accounts and uploading to Resolve results in both sets of footage having nearly identical file names, and they’re both labeled as A cam. Also, the storage indicator is very confusing and seems inaccurate. But overall, this is the app our production has been waiting for.

Filmic Pro vs Blackmagic Camera. Not going into too much details, but there are a few things I hope BMC implements which would get me to switch from filmic permanently. 1. 35mm or DoF adapter setting. Add this and I’d swap that same day. 2. Remote viewer or directors screen. I would like to use my iPad as a remote screen. Thanks. 3. My monitor clean feed is not working properly for some odd reason with bmc. I hear audio but get no visuals. However the monitor does realize it’s plugged in and switches view to 1080p, albeit a black screen. Also, the same monitor works fine with filmic pro. (Feelworld FW703) Update those and get 5 stars

Interface is Cutoff on iPhone 12. This app is pretty much flawless. As someone who have bought other cameras apps like beast cam and Moment, I’m kinda mad I did because of how good this app is and it’s free. But there is one huge problem, the Ui is cutoff on iPhone 12. It’s shifted a bit to the right and I don’t see everything how it’s suppose to be seen. If that wasn’t a problem, this app is basically a 5 stars.

Amazing app, one bug caught. Wow, what an amazing app, just caught one bug. On my new iPhone 15 Pro Max the guides opacity has no effect. I can change the guide color but it’s the same opacity at 25% as 100%. Otherwise what a tremendous amount of control this app offers. Kudos to the developers!

Getting log to work. In order for log to show up in the color space option, you must do a fresh install/ download on your iPhone 15. If you are migrating the app from an earlier iPhone model the log option will not appear. Simply delete the app on your 15 and then reinstall if you are migrating and all is good.

Hey Blackmagic how about some LOG for the rest of us!. I mean not everyone can or wants to upgrade so it’d be nice to see an option to record in some form of LOG for non-iPhone 15 users as well, this, and the ability to add creative LUTs to use as a “filter” would be awesome as well! Add these 2 features and it’s a 5 star rating for sure!

Blackmagic continues to deliver. Blackmagic’s smart business practice to provide to all customers high level products without searching for opportunities to greedily rip you off is what has made me gravitate to this company and its products, recommending it left and right. This app is proof of that. It is professional and very well done, and provides all that is needed to grow professionally without the gotchas all other companies do, providing pieces and to grab you in a subscription or something, which at the end causes me to distrust them. This is why I use Davinci Resolve, their AV switchers and now looking to invest more. Blackmagic… Thank you!!

Issues with H.265 files shot in Apple Log. Great app in general. Being able to shoot in Apple Log with smaller file sizes is great. The app is easy to use once you learn the layout. Only issue I’ve come across is shooting in 4k Apple Log H.265. The files aren’t recognized by my PC and resolve only sees it as an audio file. The proxy version in 1080p H.265 works fine. Just can’t open the 4k files. I’ve tried reinstalling my HEVC codecs to no avail. Other H.265 4k videos I’ve downloaded online work fine on my PC so I believe it has something to do with the videos coming out of the app. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Watch out this is better than Filmic Pro. - The controls on filmic pro are tiny and annoying to adjust. This one does it correctly, it is easy to adjust settings. - It allows you to record to external media unlike filmic pro. And it allows this with any format not just ProRes like the default camera app. - It lets you record wide screen video without having to turn your phone sideways. - BTW they’ve unknowingly allowed you to record ProRes on iPad mini 6. You’re not supposed to be able to do this on non-pro models, Apple uses ProRes to segment their products but this app lets you do it anyways.

It’s worse than I thought! Not only…. Not only is the white angle camera unavailable in the app, it appears that this app only uses the main camera even at magnifications from 5X to 25X. I was suspicious when I never saw that telltale bump in the video when the camera switches from one lens to another. But I did a test by covering the 5X camera while zooming from X to 10 X and the 5X camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Plus never kicks into usage. Again, if I’m missing something like a setting to access and use the 5X or .5 X camera, I will revise and apologize. But this app, as it is, is absolutely worthless.

Excellent, but how to control from mac?. Excellent app. Only one problem: if you record yourself, with the front camera, you cannot access the iPhone screen, and cannot adjust settings. To do so, we need to control the iPhone app from a mac. Is it possible?

Exceptionally well designed great camera application. This is amazing how much better this app compared to any other similar app (free or paid) in the AppStore. This is easy SIX out Five star. Two weeks after initial release updated addressing main issues reported by users. This is flawless victory over Filmic. I still can’t believe it’s free.

I’m happy I stumbled onto this!. My previous “professional” camera app developers stopped keeping up with iOS updates. I’ve got an iPhone 15 Pro and I would be OK with the native app if it included a VU meter so I could be sure I’m capturing audio. So I went in search of an alternative pro app and found Black Magic. I’m aware of the company’s reputation in the video world and so I downloaded the app. It is really, really good and the interface is intuitive- I like it better than BeastCam, the app I just deleted. Oh yeah, it’s FREE. I don’t know why but I’m not going to complain.

Superb. I have other iphone apps for the camera that I spent money on and this one bests them both in terms of ease of use and overall design. It has taken over as my choice for control of my iphone camera. I own several BM PCC's and have been a devoted follower since they introduced the first one. This app follows in their tradition of excellence.

Get serious…. If your serious about video and TIRED of Adob charging month fees for very little or maintenance updates, welcome to BlackMagic! DaVinci is a serious contender for you to consider, along with FinalCut Pro! I have NOT fully used this app but have used DaVinci and even the free version can help you to get to pro level editing for free! The fact that this app is free, shows that BlackMagic is serious about you and your needs, as they want you to become a Pro and later, AFTER you making money to invest in their Pro level services/products! Give this camera app a try and see how amazing the folks at BlackMagic are!! Not a paid review but a FREE DiVinci user!!

Amazing app on 15 Pro!. Now that they fixed the HDMI issues relatively quickly and gave us fractional frame rates, I can actually use my iPhone 15 Pro as a camera I. professional workflows! The only thing I would really like to see at this point is a way to move ISO better. Right now the sliders are really hard to dial in exactly and often move when removing my finger from the screen. It would be nice to have them as stops that lock into place at like 100, 200, 400, etc.

Amazing Stand-alone App!. This app is incredible. The control it gives you completely transforms your iPhone camera into something usable for video. Would love to see two things come to this app. One- would love to be able to plug my iPhone into my blackmagic cinema camera via usb c and use this app to control and monitor my blackmagic camera. Two- would love be able to plug the focus demand into my iPhone and use that to manually control focus of my iPhone. Incredible app and can’t wait to see what they do with it.

The app I’ve been looking for. It’s like every setting I thought was locked behind esoteric apple doors! I feel like my iPhone camera is now like an actual real camera now! Excited to play with this!

Magic!. Weather it’s Blackmagic or just Magic this apps capabilities are on a professional level. Manual controls and allowing to adjust your settings on this level is setting the bar for other apps to follow. I was a Filmic Pro Legacy user but decided this is a better app to work with.

When We Needed a Hero, BlackMagic to the Rescue. Basically exactly what we iPhone video people needed, after that other app (that shall not be named) went to a subscription model despite even for those that had paid in. Incredibly smooth and refined initial launch iteration for the BlackMagic Camera app too! Just give me wave forms and 10bit on my iPhone 13, and it’s basically the perfect iPhone videographers app.

Good App But Needs work. This is a awesome and great camera app however there is a lot features that are missing from it 1. Torch light on camera for recording 2. Paused and Resume for easy editing 3. Anti shaking (to prevent shaking during the recording session 3. video stabilization. 4. extended cinematic. Mode 5. Saved each feature setting to prevent app from resetting them all. 6. macro mode. For video and photos 7. 4K pro res recording in 60 FPS and saved videos to iPhone photos library 512Gb/1Tb required only 8. Set recording duration for 1min 2 min 5 min 10 min , 1 hr 2hr 4hr 8 hr 10 hr and unlimited recording 9. Control audio gain adjustment for studio recording 10. Stop recording when battery indicator shows low battery at 5% battery life. 11. Surround sound recording 12. vocal sound effect. For recording Please consider adding all these features in the upcoming updates thanks 😊 waiting to hear back from you immediately

Great start. This app is a great start and definitely heading in the right direction. The scopes and exposure tools need a lot of work yet however. Apple log appears to be very bright and currently both the false color and zebras in the app which only go down to 75% don’t really work for working with the new Apple log video. Shooting log video on the new iPhones is pretty much an auto take what you get sort of thing right now. The app needs better scopes, zebras that can be used down to 50% at least and adjustable false color values. I would also like to see a way to force a certain shutter speed but allow auto adjusting of the ISO. For those moments we want to lock in the look of a certain shutter speed. For now I use my light meter to help dial in a manual exposure but we really need better tools to manually expose Apple log right in the app.

I love this app BUT. I really love this app and I love the direction blackmagic is going with it. But for my personal use, I really wish when you’re in the cloud dashboard and you delete media from the cloud, I wish you could choose where it deletes from. Right now it deletes on my computer and on the cloud, but not on the camera I recorded it from. I wish it was backwards where it deleted it from the camera, and the cloud kept it on the computer that I’m editing on, it’d be nice if you had the option to choose which locations media deleted from when you delete media. But other than that I’m really loving this app and I’m excited to see where it goes.

Love it!. So much better and more user-friendly than all the other iPhone apps I’ve tried. The one thing I would ask to add is a way to start and stop the camera remotely. I am shooting from my car today and would like to be able to start and stop either from my, Apple Watch or iPad. Right now I’m recording lots of extra footage so I don’t have to safely stop the car to start and stop the phone. I guess that’s pretty nitpicky. :-) This camera app is awesome.

Blackmagic is the GOAT. SO relieved I have a better camera app option outside of Filmic Pro, after they sold out and got turned into a soulless cash grab subscription service 🙃 Blackmagic is our savior! Not only much better.. but FREE?! Such a relief Blackmagic is a company that is making consumer-first decisions. DaVinci Resolve is not only an amazing piece of software, but it’s reasonably priced and not a subscription service! I’ll happily continue to throw money at them as long as they continue this trend. Thanks Blackmagic!

Perfect for iPhone 15 Pro. I attached an SD card reader, and one of my faster, SD cards to the phone and used this app to record 4k ProRes 422 with Apple log, and a display LUT I loaded in, without a single problem. It was glorious. The image is extremely good looking and on wide shots or ECU could easily cut in with cinema cameras. I’m blown away. While Apple does allow pro as recording in their native app, it is only progress 422HQ, which takes up tons of space. Blackmagic lets you set that lower to be more reasonable. You can even record 4k/60 ProRes 422 to an SD card. And the app is free. Wow.

But why?. As an owner of Blackmagic hardware and software and a user of professional space, I found this app very useful and easy to use. But recently I found that the option to shoot in Apple Prores 4444 had gone from my iPhone 14 Pro. It is always nice to have room to play with.

Not a bad app. Just Change the zoom controls.. I love the app but I would really rather have a slider for zoom controls. As a film maker who wants a dynamic shot while zooming, pressing the plus and minus buttons to zoom in is really bothersome. As much as I rather move completely away from filmic pro, the slide function for continuous zoom is really handy. Please create a toggle mode for the zoom feature. Once that’s added, this will be my To go to when I don’t wanna lug my cameras around.

Nicely integrated, but potentially flawed. Initially playback of clips recorded under a display LUT worked, but now it crashes the app. I have done the full reset, rebooted, moved the LUT into the correct folder manually instead of importing, changed the codec and resolution. The clips play from the photo library, albeit without the display LUT, and not using a display LUT when recording doesn’t crash the app when those clips are opened in the Media page. Looks like it’s something in the loading of the display LUT for playback of clips recorded under it causing the crash. So technically, since it looks like the LUT isn’t being burned into the file anyway, I can still output clips recorded under a display LUT as normal and just remember to not touch the Media page and reapply the LUT in Resolve. Otherwise, the app is great and I’m excited to follow further development!

Exciting potential but some issues. Overall a very nice app. Great features like USB recording support, timecode (hopefully supporting deity in the future), even tilta nucleus support. App needs more work though. ProRes 4444 is no longer an option and footage recorded at 4K on iPhone 15 pro max shows as 2k resolution in resolve

Next Level. Here’s the deal. BMD for years has closed a gap any other company just wasn’t interested in closing. And it wasn’t a fluke. It’s been for a crazy long time. Continual support. Continual innovation. I run a 12 old switcher among 5 new ones I own. And the company that made that accessible for me to start, is offering a standout app…free. It looks awesome, it “feels” real. Like their cameras. Honestly, thanks guys. Thanks for pushing what can be. It’s honest, and it’s quality and there’s not a ton of that.

Easy to Recommend. Great interface with almost everything I’m looking for in a manual video app! Filmic Pro made a huge mistake moving to a subscription model, the fact that this is free puts them to shame. #1 request would be for a log color profile. #2 request would be support for Blackmagic Raw recording but I’m almost certain that’s a hardware limitation. Very interested to see what might be made possible with the external recording capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro

Amazing they brought this to the iPhone and it’s free!. I’ve been a big fan of blackmagic for a while. I watched the announcement today and was blown away at this particular announcement. I’ve been wanting something new to recommend folks over Filmic pro since they changed to a subscription based service. The interface is way easier to navigate than any other app I’ve used and feels right at home as someone who uses a bmpcc4k daily. Few things I’d love to see come to this (though it’ll have some massive hurdles to jump) -log recording -record to blackmagic raw format -connection to atem product line for use of iPhones for live streaming Those are HUGE asks to a product that is already amazing. If y’all could add those features this would be not only one of the best apps for filming on iPhone, it would be one of the best tools for filmmaking.

LUTS not working on iPhone 12 Pro. I like this app a lot. Can definitely see it replacing my use of filmic Pro. However, there are two big snags I see at the moment… 1. On my iPhone Pro 12, when I select a LUT to overlay, it does nothing. Is there a special LUT format that this app requires? 2. There is not an option to flip the image to use an actual lens (using A DOF adaptor).

Thank You, BM. I just want to say— before this app even came out, you guys have really earned the love and goodwill of the industry. This little gem, though— wow. What a gift. Especially not long after another major camera app that many of us depended on decided to absolutely screw its user base and start charging monthly— it just feels so good to have a choice, and an option which amounts to a voice. The app itself as other have stated is killer. I wish we could manually punch in ISO and Shutter variables instead of using sliders. That’s about it.

Finally. Shoot in portrait mode!. I have large hands and always manage to block the lens. This is the only camera app I know of that lets you get a solid grip on the phone and still work the controls without blocking the lens. Much more discrete as well.

A powerful videography app. The app is essentially a basic version of the software found on Black Magic cameras. It’s well integrated and works well with iPhone camera features, allowing you to have more control over normally restrictive camera features. It adds the ability to manually control focus, have different exposure viewing modes like zebra, and even import LUTs for basic color grading. A must have for anyone who wants to try out doing video on an iPhone.

Goodbye Filmic Pro. Why subscribe? Solid beginning from a solid company. The price is right, of course, but the features are robust enough to get started. Adding a remote app and other features (record multiple lens lengths at once please) will be nice add ons. Recording horizontal while holding vertical is a great feature.

THE BEST CAMERA APP OUT. if you want to control your phone's camera like a DSLR/Mirrorless/Cinema camera this is the app for you and if you've used or have any black magic gear you already know how to use it. Its the exact same interface. I love it and all the options available & its free! Bye filmic pro!

Great app, needs to improve autofocus. I am a great fan of Black Magic for giving us the DaVinci Resolve. Now giving us this free iPhone app which overtime will be on par with Filmic Pro and Cinema P3 pro camera. I downloaded and tested it. In addition to other suggestions in other reviews, I noticed that when I changed from 24 fps to 60 fps that there is a delay in autofocus while you move the camera around. Autofocus is not continuous. I’m sure that will change soon. Great app nevertheless.

I like it so far. If this app keeps getting supported and doesn’t start getting laggy I’m going to really love this app so far really nice I use davinci resolve so when I heard they made this app I was so curious and glad I downloaded it

So far so good. The ability to adjust ISO and white balance is what convinced me I needed to try this app. I make mostly small videos with me in the shot talking as well as do a video podcast with a few friends. My white balance would shift between warm and cool at times with the native iPhone app. In iOS 17 they now have the ability to lock white balance. But I was noticing the images were sometimes a little grainy when I would shoot in my “home studio”. The ISO was always too high trying to shoot the low light stuff. Between my background lights, key lights and full light the native iPhone camera wasn’t producing the best results. Now lowering ISO and adjusting my lighting afterwards made a huge improvement. The other thing that almost had me deleting this app was the audio seemed extremely low when I was using my USB microphone. I was turning up the gain on my microphone way higher than I had needed to do before. Just figured out tonight that if you tap on the audio meter, gain control pops up inside the app to make adjustments. It starts off at the lowest level and you can raise it from there. Pretty sure when using the native iPhone app it just comes through at full gain preset.

Add Fjorden support and change the world. Seriously, by adding support for the Fjorden hardware, or a new hardware grip/controller from BMD, (few do sw/hw integration as elegantly as BMD), this could change everything. If it had support for Zhiyun Smooth 4 controls, I could delete Filmic Pro altogether.

Great App that need auto iso selection that is not locked to shutter speed!. Great job Blackmagic! Apart from the list of features like log recording, and others would it be possible to have auto iso selection with a locked off shutter speed/angle? It is important to have the shutter speed locked but have Auto ISO for quick recordings?

Almost perfect - just missing one key feature. Please allow focus peaking, zebras and false color to be used during a recording like other pro video apps on iOS. Currently it is auto disabled which makes this app fall behind Filmic Pro and Cinema P3 which allow these keys tools to be used while recording. Otherwise perfect!

Independent exposure and focus. An awesome app to harness the iPhone 15 capabilities. Some great additions around focus would be to separate the exposure and focus reticles, add focus racking and improve the manual on-screen focus UI.

Amazing app!. I do love the app and the constant updated that comes packed with added features! If I'd request a feature that would be: - is there any way to use the buttons on the phone as a custom buttons within the app? It would be nice to have LUTs preview on/off switch, changing focal length, codec selection etc.

Crashing the app. It’s crashing and reloading the app when its open.

Where’s Flat or Log recording option?. I can’t select to record in either Flat or Log profile. Totally not ideal, especially when it’s a feature on most other camera apps. Have to pass on this app!

Epic features & easy to use. I’ve been using this app on my iPhone 15 pro with apple log, the app is super easy to use for a beginner and my footage is coming out great.

Can it take photos? How?. It seems to be a good video recording app. But can it take picture? How? How to start it to take picture by default and use the Quick Button on iPhone 15 Pro?

Will be amazing with Log. Will this have a log recording color space option in the future? Don’t see it currently.

Not for left handers. From portrait rotate right and have volume buttons in on top. Everything is upside down. Just another camera app that hates left handers. If you need an accessible camera look elsewhere.

Please add log profile. Please add LOG profile for iPhone 14pro

Best Video Making App so far. Update 1.2 made fast and smoothly scrolling of any dial impossible, as anytime the speed of finger slowed to below a certain speed, it will enter a “precise mode” and barely move even if you swipe to the edge of the screen. The feel is very binary, and completely unintuitive. I would like to request that this feature to be optional or even reverted in the next update, as the previous version is already accurate enough even for a single stop adjustment. Also, there seems to be a bug when working with a Nucleus Nano, once in a while the image will zoom in to above 10x and stays there, or zoom in a little bit and out, which is quite weird. This problem persists from the last version, the probability of triggering dropped, but it still happens. BTW, big applause for the addition of false color while recording, save me the cost of an HDMI adaptor and an external monitor, and avoided a complex setup, thank you!

Doesn’t work on iOS 17.1. Can’t make the app to work on my 13 PM running the latest iOS 17.1. Requires Microphone & Photo Library permission but can’t seem to find the option to enable/provide it. Please fix. Thank you

Bug with Tilta Nano on IPhone 14 ProMax. I manage to pair it with my Tilta Nano 1. However, when I pull focus it would often zoom all the way in. Happens almost every other time I pull focus. Appreciate if BMD could fix it.

Flat profiles and bitrate selections are missing. Very promising app but unfortunately it does not have flat profiles and ability to select a bitrate. It is currently similar to the standard Camera app’s bitrate. Having shutter speed displayed in angles is great.

Amazing!. It’s only 1.0-1.1 but it’s already packed with great features. The app has its quirks but I’ve already worked around them. It’s a solid choice.

Not good. Crashes on iPhone XS max after a few seconds of recording

Focus peaking only when not recording. Would be great for focus peaking to function when you actually need it (for focus pulls during recording) - turns off the moment you start recording. Also need to be able to lock ISO, and be able to separate auto exposure from autofocus feature

Buggy and unusable. The first version was great. Now it just crashes all the time. It’ll randomly stop recording after a few seconds, and Bluetooth audio connection with DJI Mic 2 no longer works properly. Maybe calm down with the feature additions and smooth all this out?

Pro feel, pro results. This app has an incredible professional feel ergonomy. All the parameters are easy to access and the UI is intuitive and easy to use. Otherwise a big feature missing to me to take family/friends shots is the pause/resume record button.

Crashes at 59min 29 seconds. I’ll record and it stops at this time frame and says “stop recording due to unknown error. iPhone 12 Pro

Over exposed. The app over exposes unless you set the shutter speed to something in the 2000 range. What happened to the 180 degree rule.

Doesn’t support iPhone 13/12 mini. This looks like a really great camera app, and it does say it is compatible with iPhone 13/12 mini, but it isn’t; controls go off the side of the screen, text and controls overlap one another, etc. Clearly the app is not designed for or compatible with the iPhone 13 and 12 mini. I hope they will fix that as this looks like a promising app.

Orientation of controls. I wish we can also get major control buttons oriented to the left as well for left handed users. I have a disability that severely limits the use of my right hand

Nice cam. But has one annoying bug.. Great app but the fps always defaults back to 30fps when you close and open the app. Even just going back and forth to other apps. Would be nice to lock the fps to whatever you want. I didnt realize this and half my footage was 30fps and half were shot at 60, which is what I wanted. Also would love the option to save video only to the iPhone camera roll and not be forced to also save a copy inside the app. Otherwise nice options. I’m sure it will only get better.

Awesome app! Shutter angle > 360?. Awesome app! Would be even better if we could increase the shutter angle > 360 to have a slow shutter effect in camera!

Storage access issue. I’ve got 65GB free storage free on my iPhone 13 Pro. Within the app it says that I only have 9GB free and will only let me record for 25 mins based off my record settings. Anyone else have this issue? Or is it just me? An update to address this would be swell Otherwise quite a good app. Locking buttons on the ISO and focus rack would be neat too. Maybe a little manual/glossary of the icons in the settings?? Is that asking too much from the best free video app ever?😅

Great but…. Everything is really great but I wish there were a few things: 1. BMD log for iPhones other than the 15 Pro 2. Different exposure metering options 3. Not right screen size for iPad.. Yes, it’s a great app, but I don’t understand why it only has an iPhone scaled sceen. IPads are not in the comprehensive compatibility list, so along with the screen size issue, why is it downloadable on an iPad. Seems a bit weird.

Nice. It needs to support black and white LUTs as well as saving videos with a specific LUT file installed.

import private storage into local Resolve?. Why can’t we import clips from private storage to an existing Resolve local project we are working on (not cloud project)? That would make most sense to test with first. Downloading each individual clip from the website is cumbersome.

Gimbal. This is great and looking forward to seeing the coming improvements! Would love to see compatibility with the DJI osmo 6 gimbal

Good app. The interface is shifted on an iPhone 13 mini screen. It would also nice to have any setting that could turn the digital sharpening off.

Great app but needs better autofocus. Great app, needs some work on the auto focus tho, shooting close-up with 5x always ends up out of focus, the camera app focuses a lot better

Great App with Accessibility Problems. This is a great camera app, which offers a lot of professional features for free. Really free. Other developers lock them behind a subscription. The only problem I have is that Blackmagic Camera doesn't well when Display Zoom is set to Larger Text on an iPhone SE 3.

Pretty good!. Like an actual Blackmagic camera, the menus are easy to navigate. Very good app for FREE! One issue - I’m a moron, so bear with me, after changing ISO, I can’t seem to get it back to Auto ISO🤷🏻‍♂️ There is no Auto button like other settings

Not working. I can’t see real time video preview, record button once turned on won’t turn off and also doesn’t save anything. I’m running on iPhone 13 Pro Max. 😑😑 guess I’ll just stick with my URSA G2 and my Alexa….

4444 gone in v1.1! Don’t update!. Looks like they took away the only feature that put them above the rest of the pack. I like how 1.1 brings all these features, but fails to warn that you no longer have the ability to use 4444.

Neat App but Can’t Use Footage. I love getting the controls that filmic used to give, but all of the videos I’ve attempted to upload have all been unsupported by the computer or da Vinci resolve app. Quite disappointed actually

Tons of features but a bit buggy. I feel like the stabilization tends to be a little buggy on different modes. Moreover, comapared to the default camera, I don’t think it produces upto the mark quality footages.

Looks great. Haven’t used a ton yet, but just getting ready to delve into YouTubery and I think this is going to help tremendously. Will report back when I gain some experience w it. Mos def looks promising!

hevc log files imported into DaVinc only left audio. But work fine in Pr. Hope fix this immediately. And wish support Chinese soon.

This is it… (+ feature requests!). Well, after a few more updates, this WILL BE ‘THE’ only pro video recording app you need. Maybe even completely replacing the ‘camera’ app on iPhone. So here me out, Black Magic…. The addition of LUT monitoring is great, but WHAT IF we could bake in a LUT to the recording? Now why would we want to do that? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of shooting an Apple log? Actually no, here’s why. 1. Digital sharpening, and 2. Creative looks (‘what you see is what you get’ shooting) I’m finding myself recording things more than ever now on my phone because of the quality and lack of ‘over sharpening’ that Apple log finally gives us. Shooting with custom LUTs is also a very fun and inspiring, instead of just looking at a boring rec709 image. It’s the same reason I shoot photos with my Fuji with Film simulation, instead of my iPhone. It just brings me joy. So for the everyday moments, Family memories, nostalgic trips, and other point-and-shoot scenarios, I wondered what if I could shoot with some of my favorite LUTs baked in and have BEAUTIFUL video clips right on my phone, no post editing required. My all-time fave LUTs are the Arri Alexa emulation LUTs from Phantom LUTs, and I know he’s already working on a set for apple log. So imagine, being able to whip out the Blackmagic Camera app, start recording the moment, and it’s instantly saved with beautiful filmic colors and no over processed sharpening. That’s incredible, and I think we’re just a firmware update away from this! Ideally it would be baked in without any steps, but a potential workaround would be to at least be able to APPLY LUTs after the fact to one or multiple clips. Hope Blackmagic sees this, as I think a LOT of people will enjoy shooting their everyday moments this way. Love this company and everything they do, and that they made this app FREE!! (Though I’d happily spend a one time fee for the LUT bake in support!)

1.1 took ProRes 4444 away. I would have easily given this app 5 stars, but the recent update removed ProRes4444 as a codec option without any mention in the release notes. Stay far away from updating this app if you enjoyed that ability as much as I did.

Display Zoom issues. This is a great app, but unfortunately the layout isn’t correct on iPhones with Display Zoom enabled. UI elements are off center, timecode is overlapping controls, etc. thank you for the nice app though, the recording options are nice.

Help - Audio Level adjustment bar is greyed out. iPhone 14 Pro Max. Can’t change the audio level bar, it’s greyed out. Please help Question: can I record in 10 bit if I select h264 or h265?

HDMI Clean feed does not work.. HDMI clean feed gives me a black screen. The rest of my device mirrors to the display still but when opening the app, nothing shows on the monitor.

Incredible!. There are so many features packed into this one app it’s insane! This is the app we have wanted for years. I have a little glitch with auto exposure and I wish there was more options for codecs like BMRaw or ProResRaw but overall BMD killed it!

HDMI output doesn’t work.. HDMI output is always black on my monitor. My phone mirrors everything else like the home screen and other camera apps but blackmagic camera just displays black. I’ve double checked and HDMI clean feed is set to on.

Starting to get “buggy”. What I’ve noticed over the last week. Audio records only one channel. Record time kept running when it was recording. Screen was black when attempting to record.

Log videos are blurry than native app. Log videos captured from this apps are much blurry than native app,it looks like a bit out of focus,weird.

Clean, fast, free. Requires a remove and reinstall on a new iPhone 15 Pro to get Log options!

I like it. Saw an article that this came out. Have used Blackmagic products since forever and they make great stuff. Took all of 1 minute to fall in love with this.

Great app with a few bugs. Amazing capabilities for a free app — sort of like DaVinci Resolve. But focus assist does not work, and the Auto ISO toggle often disappears, so I cannot turn on Auto ISO even if I want to.

Good Base. Very good app that has high potentials. I do wish it was compatible with the DJI Osmo series or any gimbal but it’s not a huge deal. There should also be a setting to keep the app in landscape mode. Not the camera but the entire app.

Is it really free though?. Doesn’t seem like there is any way to transfer footage out without buying their cloud storage. The media files aren’t accessible in itunes file sharing.
