Finally more Contra. I have been waiting for Konami to release any Contra game for a long time and this does not disappoint except for no controller support. The touch controls are pretty good compared to most mobile games but would love controllers on this one to give it that classic feel. Otherwise it’s a great game, having a lot of fun with it so far. Also though could you possibly convince Konami to release some mobile versions of some classic contra games like alien war for the snes, that would be awesome, since they finally released symphony of the night to mobile I feel like contra 3 would be easy for them to port. Thank you

Loading problems. When the game works it’s great and a lot of fun. However, every time it freezes after pressing start. Even after closing out the app the music continues to play and I have to restart it and close it out again before it fixes and then restart the app a third time to get it to actually load so I can play it. If they fix this issue I’ll change my review. This has actually become worse. Now I don’t have to start it a third time but every single time I want to play I have to close the app and restart it. This last time the start button wouldn’t even load. Get your act together because this is ridiculous. Also, the controller input has become worse. At first I had no problems. Now often I’ll be trying to jump forward and it will move backwards,etc. Get rid of the voice for the npc minion Ledder ASAP. It’s beyond awful. Hire a new voice actor and re-record all of his lines. I have dropped my review to one star just because of that. Fire the actor and whoever was responsible for hiring him.

Reborn nostalgia. I’ve only done this with a very similar game, Megaman X Dive and they are VERY similar. In so far as play options, graphics and concepts, but that piece of my childhood that is the core of games like Contra an Mega Man is what keeps me wanting to dive back in. I love that these oldies have evolved with the times and can keep me interested. Sure it’s a “gacha” but what game isn’t these days? I don’t think people want to pay a full video game price for a game on a mobile device. And it shows developers if the classics still have the clout they used to. No it’s not perfect, it needs controller support, but it’s a 5-star because it makes me want to keep playing. The best part of gacha games is that you can spend tons of money or no money and still be transported 30 years. I’ll tell you what it also did…it made me want to go back and buy all of the Contra games I never got to. It’s a quick, enjoyable laser rifle blast from the past that makes me smile. Stop being so brutal people.

Bad controls, bad visuals, unethical micro transactions. I guess my first lengthy review was pulled. Here is the short version: unethical micro transactions that do very little to explain how they will scam you out of money. You want that character that looks like it costs almost $100 in diamonds? Well, over $200 won’t even come close to getting you that one… VIP points are needed and $100 gets you less than the $70, which gets you 5950 out of the 400,000 you need…. I take back everything I have said about a claim I made about a few other freemium games I have played, THIS is the most blatant and unethical one I have ever played. ——— The controls are terrible as they have terrible response to touch input. Find myself not shooting, shooting in the wrong direction, and a myriad of other things frequently. The PvP is awful as the screen is tiny and with so much going on, you cannot see if you are even shooting in the right direction, or shooting at all half the time. PvP is determined by whose controller works, not skill. Someone have a bad connection? You are screwed either way. ——Actually, now that I think about it, they probably have found a way to monetize the controls…. They have monetized everything else in this game.

Cheating is insane in PvP.. Just as last person said it doesn’t matter how well you play how much money you spend. And people spend 10k and up there are hacks and codes. U can get killed with one move have the same character and the same special move does almost no damage how??? No I am not complaining just because I lose. It’s crazy how you can have the same hero origin for a example and get absolutely destroyed by one special hit the other player with three of the same specials and they still live. I have been killed by two loves multiple times. Have jumped out of the move etc and still get bodied. It’s crazy how some players are invincible. Everytime I get close to top 5 in PvP I get unbeatable players. If it was skill I would be fine. Anyone can press one button tho. It’s whatever but definitely hackers are at it. Also don’t waste your money on upgrading. Wasted hundreds and get zero result. Somehow the First awakening for the gold am is better than the second. Second cost 30 dollars. Only choice. Game is fun but hacked or fixed. They will never change anything or care as it gets ppl to spend ridiculous amounts of money thinking it will level the field. It doesn’t. But hey just quit playing. It a total scam and had absolutely nothing to do with the original contra series. NOTHING. It’s either too hard or too easy. Skill does not come into play in story mode or any mode other than PvP. But in PvP it pay to win or cheat to win. It irritating that’s for sure.

Awesome. You know allot of the reviews are bad cause you have to spend money I havnt spent 1$ and it plays fine to me my only complaint is there just too much stuff to get and it’s hard or just confusing on how to get it you shouldn’t have to go through 3 steps just to get a new gun or equip it or upgrade it or you have to be at a certain level to go to the next level the old contra you just play new guns fall out of the sky and you just shoot everything that’s it some kind of game genius came up with this one cause my god there just so much stuff to do and get and buy ect ect ect like the list of things goes on forever how did anyone just sit and make this game and think all this was necessary to make a good game it was nice that they showed what to press the first few times cause I would have no idea what to do now I’m at the point of every level says my gun power is to low but I have no idea how to make it higher

Woohoo. Y’know, back in day being able to beat Contra was mission impossible, still it was fun, the storyline was epic and me and my friends played all day. Well time went by and with time games got better and Contra was lost, and then it returned, I downloaded it and man I haven’t stopped playing it ever since. It’s not impossible, and it still retains its identity as a Contra title, the character design and cultural fusion is amazing. Play the game that’s all I can say, and to the devs, keep it alive and keep it up.

Fav phone game ever. For anyone saying you only get “5 min of gameplay before you run out of stamina” isn’t playing right. There are SO many game modes with new permanent ones added all the time including temporary special events. I have spent minimal money and only done so to maybe get a gun i really want, or for daily perks. I have so many gems and naturally without paying anything that It would be very difficult to run out. I LOVE this game. Especially the new combat simulation mode, who’s 3 tries a day stack and rollover the following days if unused. Highly recommend.

Needs a real classic mode. I saw the ad and got excited since my old NES where I had contra stopped working. A big childhood game of mine. First impressions were okay. I didn’t really care for the new game, just wanted to go straight to classic mode but to play the classic version or what they call one life mode, you have to go through the tutorial and some new levels to unlock it. Once you unlock it, you only have 5 tries. Worst part, it’s not even close to the classic version. Completely different levels and gameplay. I was just hoping it would have the original levels, controls, and graphics.

The best example of what a side game should be.. The contra universe is fun and it has a lot of style. This game does a great job of capturing that. Though a little slow paced for free players, it still has enough fun to keep you coming back 30 minutes a day. The base characters you get just by playing the game are great, and buying characters isn’t needed at all. The weapon system is a huge money pit, and is better off just enjoying the weapons you get, which are pretty good. As frequent as the ads are to buy things, when you realize how much you’d pay to get so little, you become less interested in spending even small amounts. It’s fun to play but there are a few things that can be done better. The auto aim will sometimes just not work at all. Coupled with terrible hit detection, it leads to some head scratching moments. When I say bad hit detection, I mean getting hit on a side of the screen you aren’t even on when the attack is made. It’s legendary just for that. TLDR: Horrible game to spend on, great to jump in a few minutes a day.

Great Nostalgia but hindered by micro transactions. Time warped to my old Contra days. Starts slow because there are about 12 different modes to explain. Misses on the traditional story mode. You will play stage by stage while leveling up. One-life mode isn’t the traditional story either. Once the game opens up, it becomes a daily grind for weapons and characters to remain competitive in pvp battles. I see value in the battle pass($4.99) but feel compelled to spend more to accomplish a certain progression. That’s where it loses the spark. You’ll Pay for diamonds, spins, additional characters and skins.

Why cant i equip the skin i bought?. Under materials in the backpack menu it says the skin is a lightspeed activation card. If Its not a skin then why is it labeled skin? And what am i even supposed to do with the lightspeed activation card??? It doesnt let you do anything with it. So what exactly did i buy? Just the coins? If i would've known i wasnt getting a skin i wouldve never bought it. I dont care for the coins, i can earn those. That is very misleading. If its just a card just label it a “card” not a skin. On top of that its not even usable. What was that for???

Nes style in the 2021 era!. I’ve been playing contra since I was 5 years old on the original NES and I’ve played every iteration made of the game! From all the terrible ones to all the great ones and let me tell you this game is amazing for us old school fans! Yes it’s free to play which I usually hate but it rewards nicely with the VIP system and you don’t have to spend a lot to gain a lot! I always support devs and even thought I’ve spent a bit more than I’ve wanted to (I’m a contra super fan, so it got me) my friend has only payed once (support the developers!) and has gotten massive rewards just by doing all the daily missions there are to (and there are PLENTY others to do). It isn’t a perfect game but for a game on the App Store that’s fermium it does it’s job to us 80s and 90s kids. And if you’re from the new era and love side scroller shooters then power to you! I reccomend it to the fullest! It gets hardcore but which contra doesn’t? 7.5/10

Fun now Whats Next ?. I enjoyed this game for a few months when it came out. i played it more recently and the whole time im hoping they are testings ways to incorporate blockchain tech and monetize all are actions. this game is perfect for that. Contra was the first game i got with my snes in oct 87. i turned 6 and beat it that weekend , first game i ever beat! thanks to those who were involved back then, and to those now who have the opportunity to support their player base from going pay to play to play to earn!

It was fun for a while, level 74 is my limit. When you reach level 25 you can only level up once maybe twice a day depending on how well you do. I’ve reach level 74 without spending a single dollar, it just took a while. Now it takes 2 or 3 days to level up unless you pay for the V.I.P upgrade which I’m not willing to do. Combat simulation scores hit on you without actually hitting you. PvP modes get boring because lack of different stages plus the experience points gained in PvP modes don’t really help with leveling up.

Play at own risk. When I saw this game I was really excited. It started out fun but pop up adds offering you small boost we’re expected. Unfortunately I bought the Browny Character unlock with the Iron Tank skin upgrade. This was during a trial unlock of Browny. Neither showed up in my inventory. I did verify with my credit card company I was charged. The customer support for this game is non existent. It just loops into an automated response not that is disguised as a live chat. I don’t even want a refund just my items… but no response from customer support or Facebook site.. this is appears to be a smash and grab for money with no back end support for the app..

Horrible developer. Spent tons of money on the app…had items before their pricing mistake…took back those items and more…customer service lol they don’t even respond or care…apple customer service for refund sorry can’t give it to you because developer hasn’t said that they had a price issue in the app and to allow people a refund. Shady developer I wouldn’t spend a dime on this game. Customer service is a joke. Cut and paste response to all the complaints On here. Email or use the in app ticketing process they don’t know anything they ask for you to prove it? How about you give me a log of all my items so I can prove it! Or better yet do your jobs better and make sure you don’t steal items that people spent their hard earned money on like you did to me and others. 100% developer won’t give a genuine response to this message!

Players pay far too much for anything. I would like the game if nearly everything needs to be paid for. I have dropped about $100 on this game and pretty much barely scratched the tip of its features. Characters, weapons, pets and some of the challenges, you need to pay for. Almost all other games don’t demand this much money from the consumer and offer so much more in terms of content. Even if you drop a lot of money, there’s STILL no guarantee that you’ll get what you want. This is a poor example of how greedy companies monetize their game. They’ll end up killing their game because free players will have no chance. People who occasionally pay will still have no chance, and the people who drop thousands will be the only ones left. Did I mention that you can spend over a thousand dollars getting the dragons breath gun? Yup, that’s how this game is played. Spending your money gambling for a chance of getting items you need. I don’t see this game lasting for a long time. Gacha tends to not do well in the west. It seems the developers milked all the prior countries before moving here. I’m sorely disappointed in this game. If you value your wallet, I’d suggest finding something else.

Great Start. As an OG Contra fan, I’ve grown up with the franchise and played them all. I was thrilled to see this brought back. So far I’m loving it. There’s tons of modes to play but I will say you really have to hit level 40 before the game opens up to you. I have not run into control issues like other people have mentioned so I suppose it could be the hardware used. Plays fine on iPhone 12 Pro though. To the devs: energy is too stringent (or the cost to raid or run missions is too much). It halts progression to a point where you pay or (what most people will do) uninstall the app in frustration. This might also tie into the need to basically level the heck out of weapons so you can advance to the next level and continue playing story missions. I invested a bit into this game but did so smartly so I am not disappointed at anything. But I would look into more ways to earn energy because it will halt progress for a lot of players and ultimately could stifle the game. What is here is AWESOME and I look forward to what’s to come.

Not terrible but not that great either. So, been playing the game for months and it’s great gameplay wise and if you want to get the best out of it, I’d use a controller. The only downside of it is you can’t customize the controls on the controller in the settings. NOW for the worse side of the game. There’s a MAJOR level cap with stages where you can’t play them unless you’re a certain level and at a certain point leveling up is a real pain. As far as the gacha aspect, yes there’s some gimmicky stuff in the game making it P2W but if you join a laid back legion and log in every day you’ll accumulate diamonds within weeks if not months and I’m talking hundreds of dollars of money saved from logging in for it and taking advantage of diamond events. Lastly, my advice before you play the game AVOID PVP! Sure you can get the same characters as your opponents with the same abilities but these people have spent hundreds of not THOUSANDS of dollars to max out their characters on the spot which will dominate you every time making PVP the most unbalanced part of the game.

If Contra returns. The man I needed to take a break.. I always say something positive before saying something negative. About a person, place, or thing created. So let’s talk Contra. The game is fun and brings back the memories and sprit of the original game. Throw back levels, enemies, characters, and some new additions. Thanks to the developers that give the game a new birth. On the negative. This thing is a gaming grind-ah-thong. I have been playing this game well over six months now. Doing the same thing day after day. And being teased with a carrot on stick that you might get the new character you what to try, or a new weapon. But if you don’t open your wallet and pay. Your going to grind until it gets boring. Then take a break. To the developers. Here’s an idea(just a thought)maybe stop nickel and dime the fans of the game we your fans love and what to play. I understand games are a tough and challenging if not expensive job to take on. And we all have bills to pay. But give them what they want. The Game. No constant overuse levels, let us try the new, characters, and weapons. I’ll give the a product a four star rating. Because it’s a good game. Not a great one.

Plays like the classic but should’ve been a flat rate fee. Gameplay is good, feels like classic contra with a little mixture of contra 4 and contra rebirth. If I’m being honest though I would’ve preferred a flat rate price for the game rather than it being a freemium which I just find annoying. I’m happy this game was finally localized and I think OG contra fans like myself will be satisfied with the results. Plus I’ve read one review that complained about the controls and I just want to confirm that the controls are pretty solid, if you want a better experience than a Bluetooth controller is obviously the way to go but I think the touchscreen controls are solid.

Amazing game little critiques. Im a Go hard for This game i really Love the gameplay add some more characters to choose from maybe add some more skills for each individual character and allow multiplayer in every game mode especially endless mode or a multiplayer campaign and maybe add alliance fights 12v12s multiplayer and multiplayer boss battles would be amazing too it would give each character a uniqueness to them whether they be support dps or tank no matter the type of weapon they use

Has potential…. I love these types of games but most of them are to bent on money than enjoyment. What I’m talking about is the requirements of this game. First, you need internet to play, which is not listed in the description. It seems like companies and developers are constantly making this feature just to get continuous revenue from ads. They call them “on-the-go games” and you can play them “anywhere”, but really, it’s anywhere that has WiFi. I want to be able to play on my own terms without very many restrictions like these. Especially the campaign. The Original Contra games were never like that, you could play them absolutely anywhere with no restrictions or cache. They didn’t require internet. There should be an offline mode where can play without internet, but you just don’t have as many playing options. Also, if you do play multiplayer, there should be an option to play with bots, so you can train while you’re offline and therefore, test your skills against real players when you have a WiFi signal. That would be great. Please add those and you’ll earn a loyal player.

Gacha Game. My excitement for this game quickly vanished when I discovered it is a pay to play Gacha game. After only a couple days of playing, the gameplay has slowed enough that I can only play for about 5 minutes before running out of stamina. So that is what I am left with, playing for 5 minutes a day or paying to play more. Very disappointing. The basic gameplay had promise, but they added way too much stuff and it is so complex and confusing I don’t even know what the value of things are or what I should be trying to do. They are constantly throwing things at you to spend money. Just sell the game for like $10 or something and let me play it when I want without having to spend money everyday. Update: After playing for another week, more content has opened up that allows for a player to get by without spending money. Much of the pvp content will be out of reach as time goes on, without spending, but for the FTP players out there, if you don’t mind having your leveling slowed it can be a fun game. Better guides are definitely needed. There is a bunch of stuff I still don’t understand and there is no place to look up what to do.

good game but money hungry!. this game is a big money grab!!! the company is greedy and will nickle and dime you anyway they can. The lottery system of winning heros and weapons isn't really a lottery system, it's more a system of spend more diamonds and more money and frequently require max spending to unlock the hero or the weapon. I do have to say they did do a great job on graphics and smooth interplay and really deep ecosystem, it's almost too complex. gone are the days of simple shooting and jumping around, you'll have to learn an entire new operating system to squeeze the most out of this game

Pay to play... I LOVED classic Nintendo contra first of all! I had very high hopes for this game. Though the game introduced SO MUCH information in the first few chapters I was able to look past it hoping that I wouldn’t have to start paying for a little while. I played for one day. The next day I didn’t have enough stamina / firepower to continue without paying. I upgraded everything I could to get enough. The levels are short but well done. The classic contra feel is there with the same sound effects / visuals from the original. I just needed a few more days of play to be hooked enough to pay or even just make the game $5, or $10 so I could play the entire thing. Good try guys!

Contra does not Return. Great way to desecrate an old classic. Maybe hire some testers before you publish a game? Especially one with such a legacy. Horrible story, appalling “acting”, geez your subtitles don’t even match the VO; but jazz it up with IGP and flashy menu’s because THAT’S what made the original great?? Let’s not even talk about the gameplay that utterly pales in comparison to the original 30+ year old game. Did you actually have a writer/producer/director or it it just a bunch of freshman winging it after procuring IP rights? Because it certainly looks, sounds, feels and plays like the latter. No. Contra certainly does not “return”. Maybe call the game something else - that way you can avoid creating an expectation this 3GB hunk-of-junk clearly cannot live up to.

Fraudulent company. This company does not think twice about removing items bought in-game no matter what consequence it causes the purchaser. Recently they sold an item that had “too many keys”…people bought them and used them to get random prizes, then spent more on packs in order to upgrade these items also restructured weapon arsenals to accommodate said weapons only to be told they would all be removed days later. This effectively ruined the game play for thousands of paying players. A couple days later they also “gave too many” free items in another event and also rolled those back once more. They are a fraudulent company that should be avoided in this game and any others they manage/own.

Shut that mouth. I’ve played this game on Nintendo and I like the game play. Though there are some bugs to fix like, when you play certain modes the volume lowers, so you’ll have to start the game over. By far it’s a great game, I also like the remixed music, it gives the game a whole new fresh and retro feel. I love the new graphics as well. When I saw the release for the game and downloaded it, it took about a day for the developers to put the finishing touches on it. The multi-touch is perfect and you can customize the controls. I have the iPad Pro gen2, so playing this on a big screen is really awesome. Ps: don’t be mad cause you have a weak iPhone, just shut that mouth and upgrade foo.

PTW. Very classic pay to win game. You can find lots of similar games like this, where you buy weapons, buy upgrades shoot stuffs….. And if you cannot finish the level it is because you don’t have enough upgrades, not that you don’t have good skills. Because there’s a time limit…… you got better gear you can pass the level. Now the game mechanic is rather a grinding festival, instead of gameplay itself. And Arena is more like a “show off your gear” event, see how much money you put in. The developer pushes you so hard to spend real money, and this is where I get upset. I simply cannot enjoy a game like this. . Update: because there is energy and tickets for playing games, the amount of the games you can play is very limited. The ultimate tournament is a lot of fun, but you only get to play once per day…WTF hahaha! And after spending a little bit money and careful thoughts, you need at least $30 to actually enjoy this game. So…… Don’t you guys have money?(big ironic face) . Update 2: I rate it 1 star now, because every time I login, I have to close 5 ads pop ups!!!

Something is wrong. I like this game, I have been playing it for quite a while. But after the last update something went wrong with the game when I try to start it. It will not even load. This started in the beginning of September, 2023. I have no problem with any other game I have either. I finally deleted Contra, kept trying for 3 days to load it, it finally worked, I played it off & on for half a day & then it would not load again. I remind you, I do not have this problem with any other game. I would like to keep playing Contra Returns, it is a cool game.

Old school contra meets new school scam. Game is very similar to old school Contra. Except it's a pay to play platform. Then you get to the good stuff. Like the gambling roulette type wheel to always get the good stuff on the last spin. Or the latest bait and switch. They offered a pack that looked like a great deal. Then they claim that it was a display error and are now repossessing the items and any upgrades that were done with the purchase. Oh this review will probably be deleted like every other negative review. But I have to try and warn people about the shady tactics this company uses. You make a purchase and its final. They offer a item and you purchase that item then they realize it was too good of an offer and they can take it back.

Developers rob players. Game has great potential but the team had ruined it. Do not waste money on this game because the dev team will never allow you to win the good items. Players can spend money to buy in game currency or anything to play gatcha, if players loose, no issue, if players win the big price, they will say it was their mistake and players were not suppose to win; they will take back the items and the purchased currency they sold to players but keep the money. Dev team would tell players to contact Apple for refund but not warrantee players can get refund successfully. In other to get away with the ‘robbery’, the team would compensate players with some low value marterials and trash gatcha boxes(nothing great or desirable items) New players can join for fun and experience but never ever make any purchase in this game.

The great scam of Jan 28, 2022. See all the 1 star reviews? See tons of paying players leaving the game? The developer done messed up, offered something for money (they made their own mistake there), tons of people bought it, they removed those items and replaced it with “compensation”, and then suggested everyone unhappy with the compensation seek refunds. This isn’t even the first time they pulled similar shenanigans, but certainly the most egregious. The worst is not that they made a mistake, it’s the handling of it in the aftermath, thinking they can smooth it over with some piddling rewards compared to what I actually purchased with real money. Stay away or stay f2p, don’t give the defrauders a dime

Plays well, serious flaws. The game plays well, sounds and graphics very good. There absolutely must be an option for users to remap controller buttons. Right now, the right stick on an Xbox controller controls firing and aiming, which is great. But jumping while firing is difficult since the fire button can’t be reached easily while using the right stick to fire. We need to remap the fire buttons to the triggers. Also, micro transactions will probably swallow this great franchise alive. Another typical roll the dice game where you gamble for rewards using a typical energy system designed to bleed players by frustrating them into paying money. Disappointed.

Still Nothing. Twice I’ve had purchased items not appear and twice developers confirmed the purchase and lack of items. Then they do absolutely nothing and state an escalation team or some other group needs to act. My advice is just don’t give these people real money and expect to lose some diamonds every so often. And expect this happens to a lot of users and that the social environ will be shady. Like every legion gets to a point where the chiefs keep donations, stop opening/upgrading the shop, and never provide any perks. Probably trying to recomp what the contra devs took from them.

Gatcha game, play to win. I grew up playing the original contra game, loved it. This version have hackers that have unlimited firepower, speed, accuracy and dexterity. Ranked matchs or PvP are rigged. I’ve paid my hard earned money to be cheated repeatedly, no real skill is needed to win. A or B hero’s can defeat the so called elite S heroes with ease makes no difference in class or rank. Your individual firepower doesn’t matter when battling other player or other modes like Void, city of ash ect. The time and money spent is just a waste, my firepower is currently over 900k and I lose to less experience or player with much less firepower and lower ranked heroes. The price of heroes and SS weapons are outrageous and not worth the expenses. It’s best to choose a game with a true balance of gameplay. I don’t usually give ratings or comments but I’ve spent the time and money. Don’t waste your energy on this scripted game.

Not worth spending money. Not many ways to earn exp, limited mission. If I buy contra pass, I do not see benefits. Not sure if players who buy contra pass will even reach level 55. Very hard to earn cp to level up. Spending money to buy weapons or skins is confusing, we get fragments for everything, not worth to spend money. I don’t mind spending money to buy skins or weapons, but it should be worth spending a dime. This game will die soon, since everything is for money here. They need to fix PvP games based on time zones.

I love Contra Returns but a few observations. I love Contra. It’s my number one all time game from Nintendo in my life. When I saw this, I hopped all over it! I love it! The ONLY issues I’m experiencing is the Ashes and Void.. the participation is lacking because I can’t get far with the lack of players. If you could make the AI the same power as you for the stage so you’ll be able to do it yourself will be awesome! I hope I can get a response! Lol

Fun for 2 days, aggressive pinch to spend. Game does so many things right. It is fun, exciting, incorporates contra’s historical heroes/villains, and has high production values. Very promising…. However, after two days of playing the game I can already experience the game progression squeezing me to pay. The game’s pace slows considerably, and access to the “fun” slows abruptly within 2 days. I don't mind paying, but i do NOT like it when a game “pinches” me so hard to spend just so that i can progress. I would have been happy to hand over $20 to $50, but do not twist my arm so early. Get me engaged more.

Fun with exceptions. Yes, it’s Contra and some of it harkens back to the original console game but it’s totally a 21st century pay for play mobile game but… Yes, there are in-app purchases that you can easily dump tons of money into to get the best of everything faster but there’s also a ton of variety to play around with but progress and updating weapons and characters will take progressively longer and longer the higher rank you achieve. There is some side-scrolling action but it’s limited so don’t expect to bang through 4 full levels in one sitting. This is more like a builder game where you constantly have to unlock unlock unlock. One nice thing is in this game, no one can attack you (particularly when offline) and steal all your hard-earned resources. Been playing for 100 days without spending $ so far and mostly it’s… get up in the morning, play today’s missions, and then get on with the rest of my day. It’s a nice distraction if you don’t obsess about it and don’t feel the need to keep up with the Jones.

You CAN have fun… at first. Fun in the beginning. Then you realize the only way to keep up is spending a ton of money. Meaningful progression is lost after a few hours when the game basically forces you to make purchases. If you don’t spend you’ll fall way behind in “firepower” which is basically just your overall strength. Rather than building bases for some form of kingdom power, you’re building your soldier using every gatcha mechanic in the book. It’s shameless cash grab and it’s really depressing to see how far the art of gaming has fallen. Shallow mechanics with a moving goal post and using gambling mechanics to addict players. Edit: Dropped to one star after terrible developer response. Edit2: how do these developers think that repeating the same message without addressing a single concern is helping them? It only proves they’re corrupt.

Great game but developers don’t care. It’s a Altoona great game but the main issue is that a lot of hackers in the game like the contra team where they are able to use rapid fire in all guns no reloading and speed hacking people have reported these players to the game developers which it clearly states that they will banned these players but nope. They only care about money money money and it’s ridiculous that these prices are off the roof no one can afford all of the items plus I know and payed with the hackers and they try to deny it but like what I’ve said the developers don’t care at all the team is called (Contra) the whole team is all hackers plus people who really play actually plays without using hacks apk and using third party’s to get stuff in order to win

Awful, Convoluted, Tiresome. One of the main aspects of the original game that made it so amusing was the fact that it was simple. It wasn’t easy, but it was simple. This game, however, makes it difficult to play through. You have to constantly “raid” previous stages in order to “level up” in order to play the next stage in the story. Exp is hard to come by, so you have to purchase “diamonds” with real cash to replenish your energy. The levels themselves are fun. But all the extra nonsense makes this game just awful. I was excited to see a Contra title in the App Store. But to be honest, this game is a real piece of garbage.

Pay to win. Yet it is still not enough lol you gotta keep spending. If your not prepared to spend a couple of hundreds of dollars on this game . You shouldn’t even waste your time . It’s was fun at first but you’ll never get any of the fun weapons if your not prepared to spend some money !!! Pretty greedy for them to base everything on gems . Yeah you can play for free . But you’ll play at a disadvantage. That is why I rate it one star because of the game predatory practices. Very unethical behavior and very glitchy systems . Overall it is a very disappointing experience. Update : I contacted them through their support line inside the app . It was just terrible . The game glitched and took my diamonds . For some reason even though I showed them the screenshots of all the proof it still had to get escalated . It’s been a weeek with no response on a simple fix . How you except your fan base to keep their loyalty towards your game and keep spending money on it when your not willing give them no support . Beyond disappointed at this point . Update : they have the worst customer service service ever !!! They’ll send your concern to the escalations department and never respond back after . Total scam game

Just don’t buy anything and you’ll love it. I was a bit skeptical on this game seeing the amount of one star reviews it has but I did anyway and I actually enjoyed almost every part of it! Yes the game is designed in a way to get you to spend money but many gacha games are and honestly I don’t mind replaying levels over and over when I’m only playing the game in short spurts! EDIT: I just realized that apparently the devs of this game scammed the players who used real money to buy things. This is also why I’m changing the review title. Thankfully these aren’t an issue for me considering I’m not planning on spending a single penny but to anyone who wants to play this it’s important to separate the art from the artist and not give in to the micro-transactions. Shockingly disappointed 😔. To be as honest as possible I love the original game and still have it on the console and when I first saw the game I was thrilled. Now I’ve been on it for 123 days now and I’m very disappointed. I have spend quite a bit of money to support the game thinking it would help me out as well. But im literally getting no where!!! And above all I am nowhere near my competitors and seem to be losing more than winning…..let’s just say that spending anymore on this game is not worth the level of fun and believe me I’ve spent way more on games that gave more and treat paying customers with real deals!!!

Disappointing. To start , my 2 star rating is solely due to the nostalgia. The game is overly complex , too much advertising , misleading sales , pay to win and pay some more. There is too much to do , writing is too small to read or understand everything, and the least attractive portion of the game for me is all the bloated unnecessary materials for upgrading every facet of the game. My breaking point was when I received "gifts" that can only be used and activated with VIP access. Lastly , I received a "diamond voucher" good for 100 diamonds. I should be able to use it wherever i want provided the loot is not behing a paywall , but when i went to purchase an upgrade for my super weapon the game said my 100 Diamond voucher was not enough to pay the 100 diamond price , instead , it referred me to the top up screen to purchase more diamonds... congratulations , you ruined one of the greatest game sagas of all time. Deleting the game and do NOT recommend downloading this game unless you are a high end card bender.

Pay to play. For anyone at my age with so much of good memory this version of the game killed it all. 1. The stamina is high limiting the play time and connection of it to vip which then ask you to buy is one the worst. 2. Everything specially the level up any good items depend on money else you have to wait for something half decent as paid material to drop. 3. If you don’t pay and spend money forget pvp it is a realm for paid players which is boring. 5min of endless loop. It’s been a great game apart from the network error and Endless loop of 5 min wait time before log in again over two days ago. I have guess accounts so can’t just delete and reinstall. Not that the Facebook and Apple account option would actually work either (5 min). Email was sent to support not even an auto respond. Pay to win game. This game really had some potential however it’s ruined with micro transactions, if u don’t have the best gear, you’ll be screwed over. Join a clan, did all the clan content I could, go offline while waiting for energy, get kicked from the clan because I couldn’t do anything with no energy that will make me progress in the game. Try to join another clan, can’t, have to wait 24 hours to join another one. Use the day 1 energy event to get more energy. Clicked raid 10x. The little energy I had is used in less than 10 seconds. Waiting for energy. This is one of those games where you have to be a wallet warrior before you can experience the game.

Lost my game on. My game was saved on “area hunter” server. I wanted to play my game again tonight so I went back on the server to start game and to realized I lost everything!

So grindy not much energy. The game is good but with the energy you can’t do much after depleting all your energy. Co-op is bad especially the underwater. It will match you randomly but your partner will just stand around and watch you do everything 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. You guys should implement penalty for that 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️.

Mostly p2w. Your f2p experience won’t be that great, I’d say you need to spend at least 200 US dollars to have a decent time. (I have) Various bugs cause issues, devs do fix them after about 2-3 weeks so it’s not so bad. Skip this if you don’t have money, the North American version of this game is severe lacking in content (no seasonal skins) translation issues, etc.

Miss Classic Rey. This game is epic, all the old with some nice modern tweaks. Love all the characters making a return as well. My only complaint would be, there is no classic Rey skin? Sure miss that tuff ‘’Space Marine’’ vibe. He’s to pretty boy now for my once favourite character. The gameplay itself rocks though. Thanks for reviving such a classic.

PERFECT. I have been playing this game for 2 years in beta and I can tell you that it is the perfect Contra experience. Personally, I enjoyed the graphics, gameplay and controls. It is perfect and is one the best side scrolling game ever on a portable platform. Try it, progress in the game to jnlock the best parts and you’ll see.

Pretty awesome for a mobile P2W game. As funny as this sounds, this game is probably the best Contra game since the 16-bit era. It’s nowhere near the difficulty level, but it’s fun and frantic nonetheless, and the performance is surprising good. There are a ton of various modes and constant updates and events. Additionally, the in-game currency is surprisingly abundant and can be earned pretty quickly even at higher player levels. It would be amazing if this game was converted into a proper console title because it’s far better than the last several decades worth of Contra titles, with tons of nostalgic throwbacks to the older titles, as well as other action games of the era. Definitely give it a go if you enjoy Contra or side-scrolling action games! Just jnownin advance that if you intend not to spend any money on this game, you WILL be paired consistently against those who do in the PvP mode, so it’s pretty lousy in that regard.

Like it & addicted. This is a nice effort to bring back Contra by Konami to the modern world. The music and the game vibe are well done, many play modes, the gfx is nice. Well done team. I see a lot of hard crappy comments on pay2win. I have played >20h, reached level 50, had a lot of fun, zero publicity, and with 0$ invested I managed to reach the top 100. Yes, pay if you want, this is a well done and enough balanced game for me.

3v3 is a joke. For as much as I like to win, it gets pretty dumb when 3 players with S graded weapon are matched up against 3 players with C weapons. It not only happened once, but 3x in a row, and I had to stop to write this review. Though ranked match can be somewhat balanced, I have been matched with a player at lvl 80 while I was lvl 45-50. Paid heroes will surely destroy you as they do way more damage than the free ones. I’ve managed to get to Platinum I and had players just letting me kill them to lose ranking to get some easy wins against lower lvl players. Another thing that annoyed me was that I started the Tournament by mistake and wasn’t able to cancel (couldn’t play at the time), so I just got a loss and had to wait for the following day. The game really banks on nostalgia, which is the reason why I played it, but as a P2W I don’t really see myself sticking to this game. Will just be one of those, spend money on a hero and the next month there a much better one. No, thank you. Games need to find better ways to hook player other than P2W models.

It’s a gatcha game but it’s also what Contra on mobile should be. Ok the batteries and level replay bits are annoying like all games designed to be money makers, but honestly unless you are the type to keep playing a game designed to demand and waste every minute of your life and cough up hundreds of $$$, you should just enjoy this for what it is until the paywall hits then start weening yourself off it. What’s here before you hit the wall is exactly what I want from a mobile Contra. The touch controls are actually great, and the health bar and upgradable, unlockable guns and characters allows for any imprecision in a touch screen mobile game. The animations and tons of voice acting is spot on. Lots of Contra classic inspired bosses and level mechanics, even in throw away levels. It’s great and makes me wish for a PS5/Xbox classic Contra that looks and feels like this. Get on it Konami! God knows you aren’t doing anything better than this these days.

SCAM: DO NOT INSTALL. Proxima Beta PTE.Limited is well known for scams, just Google “Proxima Beta Scam” and you’ll see. I was just recently charged for an in-app purchase I did not make. I asked the developer to delete my account and was told: “due to the reason you provide us we will not be able to delete your account.” SERIOUSLY?! Since when does the developer get to decide whether or not a user deletes their account or not. I also revoked my consent to their user agreement and privacy policy and was informed: “We do not promise that we can delete your account…” SERIOUSLY?! That just tells you how much of a scummy developer they and their entire purpose is to scam their user base with micro-transactions that most users won’t realize. Mine was an unauthorized charge of $1.57. It’s small enough that most people won’t blink an eye at, but it seems they then will make the charge regularly. DO NOT INSTALL.

This game is fantastic!. A true reimagined classic! I loved Contra & Super C on my Nintendo as a kid. This game is fantastic, controls are seamless, lots of weapons and new features never seen before in Contra and the story is just good old fashioned fun. Lots of extras and you don’t have to spend a dime to progress or enjoy the game. Paying just like any mobile game gives you extra loot, upgrades, weapons, characters etc but not essential to enjoy the game. Yes you need energy to play but they give you lots of energy to play the game when it’s fully charged.

Heros nerfed!!. Lance, Connor and Terminator were nerfed!!! Since nobody used Vera, this hero was buffed, in order to force us to buy more heros, that is not done!!! I will stop spending money and playing this game!!!

100$ in since launch, how is it?. Honestly, fun game especially if you have people to play with. But the support on problems is non existent, just a AI that spews unhelpful answers at you, along with the usual overpriced, horrid luck gachas. It’s simply 1star cause there’s no support. Without it the game will die in a couple years, fun for now, other wise don’t bother.

Disappointed. The classic game used to have a soul. Now all I see is greed and life time of grinding. Why is there PVP in pay to win game?

Well.... It’s not horrible, but it’s not epic either. If you actually enjoyed contra, you might like it, but I find that side scrolling games can get pretty boring if not done really well... and it’s mediocre tbh. I wouldn’t go out of my way to play it but it could be a fun casual game. Just not for me. I feel bad at whoever suggested this game go forward. If you want good side scrolling games, just play dungeon fighter on PC and it’s free and in has a real in-depth skill and equipment system and there’s tons of characters to choose from

Bugged. There has been so many bugs in the game recently and people are tired seeing major things in the game not working as intended. It seems like they don’t quality test updates before they come out. The new battle pass just came out but bugged and glitched. Somehow it also bugged the daily missions and rewards. Also for the past two weeks, people couldn’t log in, something that isn’t supposed to be there is there (you can’t interact with it, it’s just there), a major function for equipment upgrades was bugged from its release, etc. It is a fun game, just not with all these issues and bugs. Especially for people who pay for the game, it seems like a waste if everything just stopped working. If there isn’t a solution to major things like this the potential of this great game idea is just thrashed.

Mobile garbage gotcha. This game is ruined by the micro transactions, just wish some devs would just charge a one time purchase price instead of $100’s of dollars of micro transactions. But I guess devs just want to stuff their pockets and prey on young people who will pay for digital garbage they will lose one day

Charges with items that I did not buy.. I got scammed at least 3 times with extra charges on top of items that I bought. For example, I bought Gun A and that was charged to my bill. That is fair. But they sent me another bill for Gun B after, and I never bought that item. 1 out of 3 extra charges got refunded but not the other 2. I deleted this app right away.

Great game if you have a bunch of money to blow.. The gameplay itself is fun and the story line takes you through a reimagined storyline of old console games but when it comes to new weapons and characters, they want you to spend a ton of money just to get them. If you want the latest and greatest weapon you have to buy gold keys or tickets to which when it is all said and done and you are able to acquire the weapon, you have spent at least over $50 for it and sometimes for the characters, you can end up spending close to $100 which is insane.

If Contra Returns could Work I give it 1 to 2 more stars.. This game would be good if the latest version would work with my Facebook and I did agree to private policy but still nothing happened I even tried guess sign in with private policy. As far as I can tell from the pictures and I own Contra 1-4, 4 On the Gameboy DS, and both PS2. This one could fall in to the Contra 5 category. There could be a Contra 5 out their on the Nes but it’s a hack fun version.

Pay too much to obtain characters or weapons. The game itself is very addictive and fun. However, you need to pay $ for getting those A or S level heroes or weapons. I didn't even recognize that I already spent almost $400 for this game. They kept creating new stuffs to make you spend more and more. Otherwise you never able to bid the new characters. Its very unfair game unless you are rich and afford to spend more money.

Trouble. I bought two gold key packs and the collectors side of the lucky star shop this morning, and did not receive either of the packs. Very disappointing that I spent almost 1000 diamonds on them. Also I have received many diamond boxes in which I was to receive a random number of diamonds between 10 and 60 and I’ve only received five diamonds this is happened multiple times can you please address it

I’m happy that this game finally came to the US I was exited when I first heard about it From the Chinese version and from the looks of it it has 45 characters and counting Will the US version also have the same count and slowly import the characters from the Chinese version to the US one along with skins and accessories?

Very good game. I played the original contra on NES and I actually like this version a lot. Phenomenal graphics with great weapons and charters. There is also a bunch of free rewards for logins and achievements so you don’t necessarily have to spend money to enjoy the game. Overall I really like this game a lot and would highly recommend it

Day and a Half between levels. The game is awesome. Brings me back to the OG which I still play to this day. Graphics controls all fantastic. Only thing I have an issue with is that you have to level up to get to the next level and if you don’t want to pay, can take a few days if you are no constantly raiding to get XP

Not terrible. So far I’m enjoying the game but there are definitely some issues. I can’t seem to play any PvP or PvE game modes. I’ve tried contacting their “live chat” support but it’s just an automated system which references questions from their FAQ and usually those questions have nothing to do with my issue. I’ve tried on several different WiFi connections and my phone data and still nothing but I get mail from the admin saying I’m disconnecting too much.... Please fix your servers.

Worst Money Grab ever. This game is reminiscent of PAC- MAN & not in a good way, The game will keep eating your coins no matter how much real money u pay and there’s no end to the game in sight, Come on really , so the developers really expect gamers to to spend hundreds on a mobile game with super short levels. Just sell the game for 20 dollars and be done with it because nearly all gamers have x-boxes or ps-5’s where we can play highly developed games for 20 dollars or more, so who in their right mind would pay hundreds of bucks for Contra which has very little variety.

Honest review from a contra fan. Timi the maker of this game is extremely greedy. If you want to be a competitive player be ready to spend $200 and above every month. The top players of the game have spent well over 20,000 dollars so far. Also they ran a promotion recently so i purchased the diamonds to be able to buy in the event, next day they said they made a mistake and backtracked everything but refuse to refund the money. Customer service and apple as well were of no help. Dont play this game there are better and less greedy games out there.

Pay to win PVP (unbalanced). They claim pvp is fair but it’s pay to win 100% when you hit ranked Platinum II. If you don’t have max stars special heroes the the other player has a huge advantage. I unloaded an entire clip of ammo and all of my specials on a player and only brought them down to 50% hp. They shot me 3 times and I died. Up until Platinum II it felt pretty even, but at platinum II people are either hacking the game or it’s pay to win. A couple of games have felt evenly matched and other players with better skill, but most feel as though they have 10x the hit points as I watch my character unload everything and do no damage. They use 3 abilities and you’re dead. Even when they are using the same hero.

Classic Arrives On Mobile. Clean and simple run n gun game. Gameplay is smooth, quick, and easy to understand. Graphics are also good looking nothing too crazy. Controls are customizable and straightforward. Story isn’t the most compelling story but sticks with its roots by adding its bosses from previous games. Not much to complain about. Great job team working on this

Meh. You can tell this game is designed to make money with in-app purchases. I get that. People need to make money, but the game is just WAY too busy. I would have been more than happy to have a classic looking game instead of all of these anime looking graphics, or at least the option. This was once one of my favorite games as a kid. This comes nowhere close.

Disappointed. I like the game in general and I will keep playing and all but I can’t give this game a 5 star because I purchased 20 bucks worth of gems and I wake up to the game saying I was gone too long that all my progress automatically erased, I had so much good weapons and I ended up having to get a refund and start all over, I’m really disappointed that a glitched game can’t be fixed right

I had high hopes for this games launch :(. I was hoping they didn’t mess up this game but sadly they did, I was met with a regular bland summoner game yeah sure the lvls copy the original to some degree but having to have new weapons and characters is hard as you can’t always get lucky with the summons. I summoned a bunch and just got junk summons nothing good. 1k gems down the drain then i have to save up again just for the same to happen nah no thank you, disappointed in what i they made of this game.

Deceptive Practice. First off, it’s a pay to win game. The game put out a sale to buy items for $5, which I bought along with many other players. The game then said it was a “mistake” and took away all the items such as guns and equipment that I bought for $5. They didn’t do a refund for the “mistake” but reimbursed you with fake, useless in-game currency/items - so basically a bait and switch. I highly recommend to stay away from this game. Others have walked away after spending a few thousands on this game.

Sadly it’s meh… the nostalgic kept me. What a shame… this game started out great. Had promise. I even got sucked into buying a few packs to help boost my guys… how quickly that changed. The pairing is beyond skewed. It’s obvious there are cheats being used. And when you report them or write into support… they completely ignore the issue at hand and apologize to you for not understanding the gameplay… I wish I could post the screenshots from the support team lol. Lesson learned fellas. Lesson learned.

Buyer beware!!. I played this game from launch…I’m here to tell you find another game! I put huge $$$ into this and quickly realized my mistake! You can spend endless money and it is encouraged in every aspect of this. There are really only 3v3 or PvP content in this…the rest is just an endless money pit of running in circles everyday!! Take advice form someone that went through it: this contra world is toxic and it encourages gambling to no end!! Stay away at ALL costs..literally!!!

So disappointing. I would rather be stuck on a level for ever than have to deal with the upgrade stupidity of this game. It’s pretty obvious that the endless screens and “upgrades” are thinly disguised pay gates. That’s why you have to click through a million screens to get to the next level... Honestly the game play is fun but the enemies are way too random on their power and I spend more time on the upgrades screens than playing.... Just why...... Another classic ruined...

Be aware. The game is very fun to play, but and it’s a massive but, you have to pay thousands of dollars to stay current. The amount of money charged for fake currency is outrageous and I can’t believe this company gets away with it. I also can’t believe how little they listen to the players. The vast majority of people feel the same way, and they haven’t addressed the issue once.

Honestly, not bad. For me it’s really not bad. I love the artwork and game play, and it’s running great on my XR. Yeah it’s a mobile game, but old school contra was always way too difficult for me. At least this accessible and fun to play. It’s delightfully retro as well. I’d say it’s a lot better than most trash mobile games on the App Store. The story is entertaining as well, keep up the good work

Messed up. I don't understand why the developers are so concerned about "balance" now. This game has never been balanced. It's always been pay to play. If they wanted equality, they should have opened up their mistake to everyone. Now they offended all their paying customers, the only profit they get. Really poor business decision. I don’t pay to play and all the paying customers are leaving, making it worse for me too. It’s messed us all up.

Needs some real streamlining. This could be an amazing game but the controls feel clunky, the UI in menus and home screens is convoluted and needlessly confusing to navigate. I would suggest that these devs play some Mr Autofire to see how it’s done. Really disappointing. Hopefully it gets a big overhaul in an update at some point but as is this just isn’t a whole lot of fun.

Really liking the game. I really like what I have played so far. I’m not worried about the f2p mechanics. No worse than any other f2p game. I love the mix of modern and retro gaming. My only issue I have had is the right stick getting stuck when rotating. I turned off auto aim and it still happens. Other than that I am loving the game!!

Just terrible. This contra game is nothing like the original we all played and loved. Terrible menus and confusing UI is only the beginning. The gameplay and the controls are awful. The graphics are already outdated and the death sound enemies make is just laughable. I never hit a paywall because I only played it for 5 minutes and just deleted it. I guess emulators are the only way to experience the good old games before micro transactions dominated everything.

Terrible idea - side scroller freemium. Each level is like 2 mins long Each level is basically the same Why does it need cards and crazy character/weapon/anything building? Why couldn’t they just do a straight forward side scroller and charge $15 for it? I never got into the game because as soon as you’re into the level, the level is over and then there are 15 screens you have to make youre way through, regrading relentless item and character building. Who gives a crap about that stuff. Ugh.

Terrible but good when you can play. Saw game got excited. Downloaded and played. Felt the nostalgia of my youth. Tried to open an second time, and nothing. I get a screen typed “please try again after 501pm”. Tried again same response. Tried the next day told me Couldn’t download file. Tried the next day and same type message saying login after 458pm. iPhone 10max so shouldn’t be an issue as I don’t have with other games. Nice try but don’t waste your time.

Razer Kishi. The game is fun but for some reason when I first played it I able to use my Razer Kishi controller. Now I can’t use it at all. The game is easier and more fun to play with the controller. Can you update it to be compatible with the controller instead of using the touch screen. I lose interest with the touch screen.

Money. I love this game to a point, but it’s asking for way too much money, you can’t even unlock the best stuff with diamonds. It demands real money in real time. I wish you can unlock it with diamonds that way I can save and wait for it to release again later in the future. I thought getting it to master vip would change the game a lot but it just keeps asking more and more money. Netmarble, had a reasonable game play out with our spending way too much on a great game. Good bye contra, asking is way too much for me. I will surely miss it. Maybe I would comeback if this was fix.

HELP!!. I would rate this game 5 stars if not for this situation I’m in. After not playing the game for about 6 months I’ve recently tried to play only to be presented with an error message saying “reset your phone” on the open screen. I have reset my phone AND deleted/reinstalled the app itself and I’m still getting the same error screen. This it’s my FAVORITE game and I’ve invested a bunch of money in diamonds and upgrades. PLEASE HELP ME

PvP is trash. I don’t know whether it’s because my opponents have a higher rated character or a higher level but no matter what they can just drain my health away. I was shooting a guy with the same pvp level as mines and we stood still and just shot each other with no special attacks and they still managed to do more dmg than me, hmm benefits of pay to win are advantages during pvp🤔

Amazing!. This game is an amazing blend of classic and new with a ton of missions, challenges, upgrades and of course weapons! And even though there’s plenty you can spend real money on, it doesn’t feel like a pay to win type game. I can’t wait to see what new updates come to the game as time goes on.

No customer support and a pay wall etc. I loved the game can’t upgrade after level 53 and used in game gems to get a coveted hero. My hype went blah once I discovered chests for his event need a cash key for each. On top of this upgrades on weapons are hundred of thousands of gold that I can’t earn. Gold was so easy up until level 50+. What really gets to me is no support as a result a mediocre review which could have been avoided.

Problem needs to be fixed. I played Contra Returns for 8 months I stopped playing for an month went back in to login an it didn’t returned back to my account how can I fix this problem. I also invested $60 in to the game.

Large hit box. Everything in this game is solid apart from the ridiculously large hit box, j have rounds going above my head and it is taking serious damage even when I’m avoiding them, missiles and tank rounds are the worst. Please fix the hit detection, it’s too big or not adjusted properly for characters

%100 pay to win game. Yes the title says it. This game is %100 pay to win and the amount you need pay is not $10 $20 or even $60 ( AA full games around 60 dollars) especially if you want to win in pvp mode u need to unlock good heros skills dont matter whoever pays real money to get locked heroes wins. I’m 65 lvl now i been playing this for a while but pvp mode is so broken regular heroes are weak against paid heroes. Paid heroes will trap you and kill you so easily bc they have awesome skills to stun you. It’s fun game but you need to pay like over $100 if u wanna win something.

Disappointment. I must confess, I played Contra since I was a young kid. It almost 30 years ago. When I first see contra (version ~5 to 7 years ago) in iOS platform, my old day rewind again. That particular version was exactly the same as old original contra. I was so thrilled to revisit the game again, I played it for like months without tiring… Somehow, that version was taken out of iOS which I don’t know the reason behind. These days, the newly build contra emerged, I downloaded it. I couldn’t stand playing at all, it’s all new. It felt just like this is completely another game that use the same name “Contra”. There’s a saying, if you want to remake something highly in the past, you need to make it better. Please give us back the old contra, at lease the original contra as a choice.

Too bad. Too bad for the return of legendary title. I expected more than that, at least the map, environment should retro something but they are all new. It is ok for the evolution but the core game play is missed. They wont never do it again because konami and timi apply gacha mechanisms that kill all feelings of users. If you do retro a game, make use feel that old time. If you make new game, it even worse. That game couldn't compare with other platforms game I came here for 'contra' title and totally upswt with what i got. Bad graphics, animations and also not so good characters and environment design. Come home, konami!

Not as simple as the classic, full of dialog and cutscenes. I would remove the cutscenes, dialog, grenades, super missile attacks, and health bars. One of the things that made Contra unique was the whole "one hit kill" situation. Too many options for attack, no need to try to "add to" the original. I don't care about the story, just drop me from the helicopter & I'll be ready for action. Instead of telling me how to double jump, just put a high wall in front of me and I'll figure it out

Really fun!. I love the story. The story is one of the best parts of the game. Although I hate the multiplayer. It feels as if the multiplayer is missing something, I just don’t know what. Other than that the game is very fun! It’s not that pay to play, it performs well. The graphics are decent. It’s all around a solid game!

Money pit. I still have this game and have to say I love it BUT!!!! When you level up to go to the next stage it used to be 2 now you have to level up every time you wanna go to the next stage!!!! Definitely set up to make you pay!!! You guys need to bring back the old way which let you beat 2 levels b4 having to level up. I invested a lot of time in this game and my guys are super strong because I don’t pay to play, the down fall is the levels are sooooo dam easy to beat that I’m leveling up more than beating the game!!!!!

Pay to play. The only way to play this game is to pay for currency and upgrades. You do not have to but you will be stuck being mediocre at best. It costs $2,000 to be vip 12 and only then can you compete at a higher level. I personally spent hundreds of dollars before realizing I will have to continue to spend money to keep up with the game. Save your money and find something else.

Yes!! Classic and Retro Feel. My family and I have played this game together for years. Many many years. There have been several remakes some good, some not so good but we still loved them. It’s amazing to see and have an updated classic contra feel for mobile. I started playing this game and couldn’t help but let a happy test Fall down my face. Thanks Konami for years of awesomeness!!

Been waiting. Been waiting for this to come out on apple store US for more than a year. Since the other original remake on the store had been pulled like many years ago there was nothing left. Initially I had given this game 5 stars with the first wow factor of guns, solid mechanics and familiar tunes, but after awhile, those wore off and all that’s left is a grind, gatcha game that takes way too much time for playing the same levels over and over. Deleted it. I really wanted a solid normal contra with levels. Would even take an anniversary reboot over this or what you see on steam.

Best contra ever!. I have played contra since I was a kid. This is the best one out yet! So many different things to do, so many weapons and characters. Also, the graphics are very good, pretty high quality. I just wish, the dragon breath cannon was available more easily!

Crashing?!?!. This game is terrific! However I am having a lot of crashing recently. Multiple times a day, in game play crashing, loading crashing, purchase crashing. It’s in needs some major updates and I could use some of my resources back! Now it won’t even login!

I signed on as guested and account got deleted out of no where. Not happy with this game at all I was playing for couple days didn’t get super far but far enough not to start over and I didn’t play game for couple hours and account just disappeared out of now where. Also don’t like the fact you have to pay for something in diamonds even tho you just bought it games just about money so be warned if you magically loose your account don’t be surprised

L O V E. So nostalgic.. Played this when I was a kid growing up.. I’m still early in the game but I have not hit a paywall yet and that’s wonderful. I don’t mind spending money to play, but I don’t like being bullied into it.. Which the game has not done yet.. I would give it 5 stars if controls where better.. I guess, they are as good as can be for a phone game though.. I might invest in a controller, if this game supports. I LOVE IT..
