Not easy to set up. I have been trying for over 3 hours to get this device setup. It won’t connect to my existing WiFi. And there is only a little card as a quick start. No operating manual at all. I can’t go back to any previous screens on the app. There was no ‘security’ verification in the app. Orbi shows up on my settings as unsecured device. Right now it’s not worth the $200 I paid for it. I can’t get ahold of any tech support that is advertised. Troubleshooting through their website...gave all info only to be instructed to contact internet service provider. I was on the phone with internet provider for almost an hour and I got so frustrated with them saying that my modem will be turned off when I connect orbi. Well...I got to get the dang orbi connected first. 🤬. ETA…a year later and this thing has given me nothing by headaches. Every couple of weeks I have to reset everything and start over. Now I’m being told that if I want phone support, I have to pay another $140. Because they only allow 90 days of support. I’ve used more than 90 days in this last year resetting this thing. They sure do want your money for a product that is crappy. And then more money to actually help you make it work. During my last reset, all of the info from it got wiped out of the app. ??? How???

So-so app. Rampant data collection with no opt-out if you use it. The app it self...it’ ok. It has some neat info displays but doesn’t have the same level of functionality as the web GUI. …but here’s the big problem: you must create a Netgear login to use it and IT CONSTANTLY COLLECTS DATA AND ASSOCIATES IT WITH YOUR LOGIN if you do. While other Netgear product lines allow you to opt out of data mining and creating a Netgear account the Orbi product line HAS NO OPT OUT! It says so right on their support site. To use this product without Netgear spying on you skip this app. Just use the web GUI to manage your network and do not create a Netgear login or associate your Orbi device with it. If you want to go the extra step put the ip addresses Netgear uses for data collection into your firewall and redirect them to localhost. For a company whose business is networking and security, having an app that demands you create an online account is unacceptable. Use the local web interface which is better anyway but demand better from app makers!

Intuitive Network and Device Security Management. I love the control and insights that are provided by the Orbi app. I can see my Network map and actually understand it. I get pings when one of us unwittingly opens a website that may be malicious. It is nice to get advanced warnings from invisible cyber threats. It is hard to know otherwise. I can perform updates without going to a website and so far all updates have been minimally intrusive. My only complaint is the Armor, Netgear, Bitdefender rabbit hole you wind up in once you pay for a device. There is no way to define/understand these individual, free standing products when they get bundled into a subscription. And good luck getting support when you get a message that your device isn’t protected when you thought it was. This can be troublesome. It gets worse when it is about to expires. Then you get emails telling you to renew...I shut off auto-renewal in all my accounts so I can be a good consumer at the end of a contract. I won’t spend money to renew if a product drops in productivity. However, in the case of Orbi, I have little concerns. If there was a way in my account that I can see Orbi, Armor, Bitdefender all in one place, I would give this 5 stars.

Excellent for what I need. I have a five bedroom and three floors home. The main source is on the top floor. I hook up the main router on the top. I have the small two that connects on the second floor one at each end of the floor. So far it is great as long as no one messes with it at the source. I love the app because I can share the password via text. Test the speed and look at the security and it has parent control and guest which I don’t use but options are there. I love the fact I can be anywhere and I can use and look at the app to see if internet is connected I do not have to be in my home. It is very easy and simple to set up. I had Orbi since April 2020. It was my first router. It was price range $200. It is well the investment. I was looking more for width. This is what I needed. My brother would get cheaper brands it always gets knocked off and he buys more and it is all over the place. It was very frustrating not being able to get connected. I hope this help. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Best luck to you in finding what is right for you. I would recommend this . 100%

Look no further!. The Orbi mesh system had cured my router quest after years of frustration. I live in a 100yr old home and was difficult reaching all my streaming devices (both audio and video), and dealing with audio drops outs on the picky iTunes/Airplay system, wifi devices dropping off (cameras, switches etc), not to mention getting worse when more traffic was introduced. Fast forward and then getting my Orbi, everything throughout my home and property have worked flawlessly, including for the many that come to my home for holiday gatherings etc on my guest network don’t ever complain. Bottom-line, if you have a multitude of devices, family and friends needing wifi, this is the system you need. It will simply manage any high traffic you give it. Extremely pleased!

Impressed on all accounts. I am blown away by the Orbi system. I switched from a normal tri-band router to this 2 satellite orbi (three piece unit) because I was unable to stream two roku sticks at one time. I have a three story home with one orbi unit on each floor. Not only are my streaming devices spit fire fast, but I’ve got noticeably faster upload and download speeds to my Xbox one console, my computer, work laptop, the families laptops, our tablets and cell phones. The app is easy to use and understand allowing me to password protect the router, check on the net time and traffic, and even check my speeds and diagnose connectivity with the tap of a block. If my net is down because of the fiber optic work the phone company is doing, my 4g/lte still allows me to connect to the unit! All in all it’s a very... VERY... powerful unit for what I believe is an affordable price. I feel like I spend less time working on the families computers and more time enjoying them and our streaming services. If you’re a multi level home or a multi player household, or even if you just have lots of friends, family, or company in your home, orbi is a must have in my book.

Terrible support. First off I’ll start by saying that their mesh system worked fantastic for about a year and a half...now it’s nothing but issues. I updated the firmware and now my router disconnects at least 2-3 time per day. In order to get it to reconnect I have to reboot the system each time, which is annoying. You’d think I’d be able to reach out to customer support and get quick and easy help with resolving the issue...nope. They only offer a 1 year warranty and 90 day tech support, after that they just tell you to visit their community support website to look for help. I’ve done everything I’ve read to do so far and nothing helps. It’s probably a simple fix if I could just talk to the tech support people, but I can’t because it’s past the 90 days. Ridiculous.

Great Product needs Great Customer Service. The product is amazing and it connects my smart home beautifully. I have four satellites connected and I never have an issue with any of the almost 50 devices connected at any given time. The problem is in the customer service… There is none! I somehow used the wrong email address to set up my account (it’s one letter off). I’ve lost remote access to my network because I don’t remember my password and all of the reset functions are being sent to someone else’s email. I have tried multiple times to speak to a representative to help me get this resolved but I can’t get to a single person on the phone our in writing. Guys, your products are great, but if someone messes up or has a question, there is absolutely NO support…. I would give 5 stars if your customer support was as good as the product!

Big old house, great coverage. 8500 sq ft of steel frame, plaster lathe walls, brick, 5 floor brownstone. Router in basement next to phone, cable, Ethernet distribution system. Have had many routers - latest was tri-band nighthawk. Bought that with 5 access points. Problem was either use 1 ssid, but then your might not be logged into strongest signal. Or, have different ssid’s for each access point so you always knew which ap you were connected to, but of course that meant you had to change to closest ap to get best signal. Fine for me, but drove wife and kids crazy. Bought Orbi ac3000 router and 2 satellites at Costco for 299. Have since purchased another satellite. Router in basement, switch in media room so all lan, satellites on floors 2-3-4. Now strong signal throughout the entire house. Everyone happy as they log in once and have great connection wherever they are. Especially great now that 2 kids are working from home and using Zoom, etc., all day long for classes and work.

Orbi, exceeding expectations!. I am beyond impressed with the performance, speed and distance installing an Orbi router with only 1 satellite has provided. I was hesitant to make any changes to my already working yet lacking internet providers modem/router. Now able to notice the massive increase in distance, amount of devices that flawlessly connect and STAY connected. Along with the speed, consistency and transparency of my now doubled devices connected to the network. I regret not making this transition much earlier! Orbi, your product not only delivered, but far exceeded the expectations of what I had in mind. Lastly, thank you for keeping those of us who are not so confident in our tech abilities in mind! As consumers we all hear how easy a companies product will be to install and implement. However, risking downtime or loss of wifi connectivity based on that claim we have all heard and been let down on is a major deterrent. If anyone reads this, I was able setup my entire network using the Orbi app in around 15 min. You have succeeded where many have failed with ease of use for customers like me! To the Orbi team, I never write reviews but felt compelled to say keep up the great work! Thank you, Kevin McCarthy

Great Home Mesh WiFi System. I bought the Netgear Orbi Ultra-Performance router 11 months ago. Initially when I bought it I expected to have good internet coverage throughout my home. So far, the orbi has exceeded my expectations in that regard. Not only do I have good coverage in my home, but also just about everywhere else on the property. The interior walls of my home are constructed of 4 inch concrete blocks and the exterior walls are constructed of 8 inch concrete blocks with rebar. All devices on the wireless network experience the same network speed everywhere on the property. There doesn’t appear to be any dead spots. This is especially useful for my wireless Reolink home security cameras which I have located on different corners of my home. I can also see all of the devices connected to my network through netgear’s mobile app and I can allow or deny access to any of these devices. Disney’s circle app which can be used with this device is a good free app for enabling different levels of restrictions for devices on the network. Every now and again I would have to restart the router because of a problem with my internet signal at home. Aside from this minor inconvenience this is a great product and I’m happy with my purchase.

Super fast. Well my last router I had was a eero I really liked it when I had 300 mbps plan. Than I moved to 1 gig speed but the eero could not handle the speed. Than I read about WiFi 6 and it could handle 100 devices and handle 10 or 12 devices at once without losing speed.. I had to have it. I set up Orbi very simple and set up right away. At first speed was at 500 mbps but as it settled in my iPad wirelessly running 400 mbps and my step son wired his computer into Orbi and he’s running 960 mbps.. love it finally have a router that can handle 1 gig speed.... come on 5G I am ready now!! It’s very expensive but honestly if you can afford it it’s worth it.. I was just wasting money on 1 gig speed because I just find the right router. I have it now.. we usually have 20 devices and more on our router and eero did a good job managing what devices were used but kids with Xbox pull so much from your internet also 10+ devices the eero could not hold speed.. Orbi WiFi eats up all devices and spits it out....handles it all... very happy.

Needs ability to manage NetGear Armor from any device. Overall, the app works pretty decent. It lacks several settings compared to logging in the web portal but I suppose that's to be expected in this consumer level router. The biggest issue I see is the inability to manage NetGear Armor from any device I'm signed in to. Only the very first device that was used to set up the router can access or see the Armor settings and get notifications. No other device, even if it's properly logged in and can manage all other aspects of the router (devices, network maps, wifi settings, etc) can manage the Armor settings. It stubbornly refuses to allow access to the Netgear Armor settings with an "Error: Unknown Error". I talked to Support about it and they were unable to meaningfully assist. Range and signal strength of the router itself is great. The incidence of wireless network related interruptions has significantly decreased since installing it. I just wish the Armor portion of the app could be fixed since it's a significant part of the security on the device.

Should be better at optimizing Device connections. I have 2 Satellites to have a triangulation of coverage in my two story house, which should provide excellent overall coverage. But the problem is, when a device is connected to the WiFi, which ever Hub or Satellite was closest on first connecting... that’s where it forever stays. Simply put, no matter where I go in the house, say with my phone, if I’m closer and better connected to a different satellite, the system doesn’t automatically switch my connection to the best connection. It keeps me at the first, which may be bad at the other side of the house. This is retarded and defeats the purpose of adding more satellites... other than to just extend that initial link, which is fine for a static device, but seriously, mobile devices need to be able to get the best connections always. I should also be able to manage at least manually how a device is connected with whichever base or Satellite I want. Give me the control if the system itself fails to optimize the connections automatically. This to me is a huge oversight and failure of the company and product. This needs to get fixed, if they want to be seen as a premier WiFi connection company.

Parental controls are cumbersome and lacking. I was wondering pretty excited about getting this WiFi router. I’ve been hearing such great things about mesh type WiFi routers. Setup was easy and comes in two flavors; the Orbi app or a web browser. I chose the Orbi app and it was easy. Our WiFi was up and running within 20 minutes. Every item we have connected easily to the router and speeds seemed great (no specific speed tests were run, just watched Netflix on each device). I have a 14 year old and needed to setup some limits. I had time limits for each day on my old router where it would allow a connection to the internet between 7am and 10pm on his devices. I also have a few websites blocked through my old router. I could not do this on the Orbi. You had to use Open DNS (separate website) along with the Orbi’s parental controls menu to setup websites or servers. You could not, however, setup times for internet access to devices. This is unacceptable to me. The Orbi has Circle Disney setup on it, which gives you more parental controls at a cost of $5/month?!?! That is also a separate login. Both Circle and what little parental controls within the Orbi router was just too complicated and lacking for me to keep the device, so we returned it and reconnected our old WiFi router. We now will be looking for another router manufacturer for our home.

Fast and Powerful. I was having all sorts of problems in working from home with 4 adults spread from the second floor to the basement. The issue was that with other systems there was coverage of the whole house, the speeds really dropped when you got away from the router. Also when I added a range extender, there was coverage but still very slow speeds. My fire sticks also reported weak signals. All solved with Orbi. The key is the very fast back haul between the two routers and the better range on each router at the fastest speeds. Even if you don’t have any or many devices that use WiFi 6 , the Orbis do use it on the back haul to connect the satellite to the main. I also upgraded my cable internet to 300 megabit and I get that speed in all but one room now. The one room that doesn’t has a 50 megabit speed. I’m going to get a second satellite and see if that solves the problem and also gives me coverage in the backyard during the summer months.

Orbi now works. I would have given you 5 stars but your customer services is terrible. First I called and the. They asked for a number to call back. I did get disconnected and you staff never called back (strike 1). I called back and was on hold for over 40 mins, I step out of the room for a second and when I returned, I was hung up on (strike 2). Now I was upset. I called again and a staff member answered the call to allocate the call to the correct department. I told him I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I was told no supervisor is available at the time. He was ready to send me off to the tech support when I said no. I had already done this and did not want to wait on hold for 40min. He stated he would stay on the line with me. I was transfer and he left and again I was on hold. After 30 mins, I hung up. I purchased the extended custom service for two years. I want my money back! I was able to finally fix it myself. I will never buy Netgear items again and I will advise everyone to never buy your products. It appears as a company model, you are substantially lacking in customer service.

Need Anywhere Access FIXED. I have an Orbi 960 router with one satellite. I set everything up one week ago only to find The feature Anywhere Access does not work. I have read blogs, followed Netgear website instructions on updating to latest firmware, resetting, rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling the app…. all to no avail. I keep getting the same error: “Some error occurred while enabling/disabling Anywhere Access…”. I spent an hour on the phone today with Netgear support and they tried all the same steps— we even tried unplugging everything, including my modem, and plugging everything back in to let it all reset… again, all to no avail. The most common comment I’ve read in blogs about this issue is that this occurred with your latest update. I just got this system so I wouldn’t have had any previous firmware version. Thus, it apparently had been working until this last update, allegedly. Can Netgear please send out a fix??? We really need Anywhere Access. And— it’s only able to be toggled on and off in the app. Please help. Thanks!

Easy to set up and FAST speeds!. Great price on Netgear Orbi Mesh system (RBR10 with 3 satellites (RBS10’s)for $200!!! Setup was very straightforward—downloaded the app and followed the step-by-step directions on the app. Took about 10min. All satellites up and running. Used the same network name and password so all devices immediately online without having to find network again. Ran speed test and have increased 10-fold!!!!...from pitiful single digit download speeds with my old Time Capsule to now over 100Mbps! May not have quite all the bells-and whistles of Google Nest, but has got me running all devices super fast, and I rather prefer not having intrusive google embedded in my house. Not sure how much better the new tri-band systems could be, but can’t compare to this price with 3 satellites blanketing my whole house and back patio with blazing fast service!! Couldn’t be happier!!

Hope you don't EVER need tech support.. We paid for the bitdefender security that‘s offered by netgear. Worked fine for the first year, renewed before our service ended but the renewal status has not been updated to our network in 3 months and counting. We‘ve called tech support, we‘ve done tech support chats and emails, no one seems to want to help, they do whatever they can to get you to end the call or chat and tell you someone will call back or follow up. But no one ever does. Several days go by and you have to repeat the process again and again to no avail. My last chat, I was prompted to call. I called the number I was told to call, who then told me I had me call the makers of bitdefender, so I called them. Who basically said you need to call netgear, they sold you the product, not us. In another chat, the representative said they would get the issue resolved and call me in a few hours. No one ever called! This started in July. It‘s now October 27th, netgear has been unable to activate the paid security protection on my account. But they have mastered the art of the “runaround“ and continue to “pass the buck“ to another agent. This continues with every attempt to chat, call, or email their customer service.

Talk About Lightning Speed. My previous WiFi setup included a router and range extender. Well that setup kept causing me grief, after awhile, my family kept telling that they couldn’t get on the internet and which I was always forced to restart my modem and router. Also, I am an IT consultant by profession and I would get the peanut gallery remarks that I could fix other systems but not ours. I was done with that! So, my next solution was a mesh network and which I researched for choices of hardware. The Orbi by Netgear was the clear choice. I checked network speeds at different points in my house with my prior network setup and after the install or the Orbi router and satellites. I was amazed to say the least! Although my upload speeds remained near the same, my download speeds were four to five times faster. I am impressed!! I’ve only had it in for a day, but I don’t expect any degradation as more of my family’s devices join the network.

Not very happy with Orbi. The app is very basic and continues to try and sell you on their security future. But my biggest problem with Orbi is the fact that you do not get out of the router, the speed that go into the router. At the time I purchased this router it was the top of the line Orbi, and yet it’s still is incapable of giving me gigabytes speeds wirelessly. I will certainly not be buying another Orbi after this, because the advertisements do not live up to the reality. And I have to laugh when I see the new Orbi for more than $2000 and I cannot imagine them doing anything more than this one does, so don’t waste your money. This was over $1200 when I bought it and it is never achieved anything close to the speeds it claimed, so why on earth would I think the $2000+ one is going to be any different. And just to mention, I have three units in a Reasonably medium size apartment, and they still cannot achieve Anything close to what they claimed. And forget about customer service. That is just not even worth talking about. So if you’re not happy, you’re sort of stuck that way.

Works Much Better than Velop. Easy to set up. App is not only simple for basic user - there are advanced tabs to get into advanced settings and adjustments for power user. Getting great speeds from main base (238) AS WELL AS from the satellite unit 218. I had signal issue in large house due to distance and walls blocking - this Orbi has Excellent speeds from base AND satellite in other end of house. I’ve tested signal all over the house with iPhone App and this Orbi System is working great. I have Velop in another house and it never worked well - signal degraded to almost zero when away from parent node - it couldn’t get signifigant signal because of a wall and it had trouble getting thru Glass Window!! But the Orbi is delivering Great signal - Netgear has some of the beat reviewed WiFi systems and the speciality in this area is apparent in this Orbi Mesh. Excellent all around. (I have been testing for 3 days - if anything falls apart I will update)

Disappointment….. We were owner of the previous WiFi router that integrated with Circle 1.0. Everything was great with Circle 1.0 as it was the ONLY parental control software that works. Since kids transitioned to more virtual learning, our WiFi has been very spotty form time to time. So when we discovered the new WiFi 6 system from Costco, we jumped onto it for the upgrade. After installing the new WiFi router system, the wireless speed was amazing. The new parental control, however, was nothing but disappointment. Since Netgear decided to integrate circle’s functionality into the orbi app, it became a different (pricier) subscription, which is ok to us. However, the interface is so hard to use now. Everything u used to do in circle with one click, now u have to do it with 2 or 3 more clicks. On top of that, even though I blocked a profile’s internet or blocked categories, my kids were still able to do everything on the internet. I am now deciding whether to cancel the parental control service and go back to crappy WiFi, or looking for a different parental control solution again….

Love Orbi ...but Sonos may need app notes to make work. I love my Orbi mesh networks. I have set up Orbi’s in 2 locations both w 3 Satellites. Yes me also has an outdoor satellite. They are easy to set up and thru pilot is great. I also have several Sonos ones in both locations. The first Sonos set up took minutes and went smoothly. The second setup was not a fun experience. To make Sonos work I ended up shutting down all satellites and other devices in the Orbi network. I had to factory reset my Sonos one’s and Sonos move (most likely because I tried to many time to connect each one). Once I did all that I was able to get all the Sonos speakers to connect. This may be partly a Sonos issue but the Orbi forums lead me down paths that were way off and included telnet SSID editing. Luckily I called an IT friend who gave me the idea to shut everything else down and start from scratch.

Decent Experience. The Orbi software is pretty fantastic for setting up and installing a new mesh system. My primary complaint is that frequently, after software updates, my credentials get lost and I have to go through the trouble of re-initiating the software. Other than that, I have two primary complaints - more about system functionality than the software: 1. Due to the nature of the mesh system, all devices see the primary WAP and satellite WAP as the same SSID and therefore the same device. It sure would be nice to be able to select a default device for immobile devices (SMART TVs, firesticks, etc) at the time of first connection. I’ve had devices located within 5 feet of the satellite default to the weak signal from the primary WAP due to power cycle events. The device will run poorly rather than reconnect to the available satellite because though the primary signal is weak, it is still available… 2. There is no way for an average user to chose wether to connect to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands. I have some devices that will “connect” to the 5, but will not run properly. To get them to connect to the 2.4 GHz band involved running a string command to temporarily disable the 5 GHz radio, quickly connect, establish a static IP, etc. it is 2023, this shouldn’t be that hard…

App can never find the Orbi Router.. App is ok when it works but most times it is useless. I am connected via AT&T 1Gig fiber broadband and can only use the Orbi in “AP Only” mode. Therefore, all the IP addresses are allocated by the AT&T ARRIS Router DHCP service. I have a mix of CAT 5e Ethernet and WIFI connected devices. Another problem; there is no way to set up the system properly using the app in my (pretty common) use case. After talking to support, best to not connect to the internet router at all prior to completing setup. Instead, connect via a PC / Mac to Orbi internal web interface and skip over plugging into ISP Router. From a Windows cmd window, I use ipconfig command to learn the Orbi’s initial IP address and then direct browser to that IP. Using default setting that come with the Orbi, logon and go through initial setup, discover the satellites, and setup your Access Point / Guest Access Point names etc. Importantly, in the Orbi Advance Settings menu select “Access Point” mode instead of the default “Router” mode. Save/Apply the settings. The Orbi will reboot. As it shuts down, plug in the ethernet cable from the ISP’s router in the Orbi Router’s WAN port. After it comes up, reconnect your computer to the renamed Access Point. Then check for firmware updates. Should be good to go without the hassles.

Great router but issues with smart home networks (Nest, etc). First,I am not a router technician but I do know if they’re working or not and this router is very reliable (except smart home devices-see below). The set up is quite easy and coverage pretty good but I have a ranch style house and still needed one additional satellite for full coverage. I have over 25 devices on the network and it handles them well. Also, whenever there’s a power outage Orbi signs back on with no problem without any assistance from me when the power is restored. Again, I’m not a technician but it works for me. Also, one last note, if you use devices for a smart home like cameras, lights or thermostat Orby is not compatible with many of them and you should know that upfront. Read the list of devices that Orbi will not recognize. I found that my nest cameras work on the Orbi network even though it says it’s not compatible but the connection is not as stable as it is with other devices.

Great product, but the app, ugh. Router & satellite are amazing compared to Google wifi Mesh. Yes I like Orbi RBK50 design, it does fit into our space nicely. Counting all the Ethernet ports Netgear gave us (7) not including port for modem which makes eight. It really does makes a difference hardwiring smart TV’s, Apple TV and other devices through Ethernet ports like PlayStation. I have notice zero refreshing while streaming cable television or watching Apple TV. All cable providers stations look visually good and thinking about it my 5.1 surround sound sound fantastic. I have 22 devices connected including security cameras etc. I haven’t experienced one single hiccup. App: It’s basic but very functional for what’s immediately important. I do question quality of Speedtest just because sometimes it gives ridicules low results compared to browser Speedtests which put Orbi off the map and beyond the stars fast. Maybe update for app will fix issue. I don’t mind having a second app called Circle to manage family members because it keeps apps much cleaner and less junky. What I don’t like is paying monthly subscription and since I don’t use Circle anyways it really doesn’t matter but I do get occasional notifications which is annoying from apps. Security: Running Bitcoin Core drives security features nuts and yet too redundant. I think to open ports and assign static addresses Orbi needs access through a browser. I haven’t needed to do this.

Maybe the router, maybe the app. I have an Orbi system with 2 satellites. When it works, it’s fantastic. However, when it doesn’t it’s a complete nightmare. I went months without being able to login to the app, despite having the appropriate passwords. In a final effort, I tried to recover password only to have it ask me security questions I never answered. I know I didn’t answer them because the first one was “what is the name of your oldest sister”. I don’t have any sisters, so I KNOW I didn’t answer that question. NETGEAR will not help you if you are out of warranty unless you want to pay a ludicrous price for “support”. I already paid over $400 for this router, stuff your support. Finally after having the unit unplugged for DAYS during an outage I was able to reset from new and have access to the app. Last night I rebooted because speeds were slow. Now it only recognizes one of the satellites and every time I open the app it goes offline. I will never buy another NETGEAR product again, hand to God. And I’m probably going to have to replace this even though I’ve barely had it 2 years, and did I mention $400? Buyer beware.

App is a total waste. Somewhere along the line this app has changed. App was working fine until a couple of weeks ago! As shown in the description I used to be able to look at devices and see how they are connected ( wired, wireless, 2.4G or 5G ) just by hitting on devices in the app! Now it shows all devices connected or not! I then have to click on device to see how it is connected, additional step! Also when doing Speedtest I get extremely lower results than when I do Speedtest thru a separate app! Unable to change server that app connects to for Speedtest. Contacted support and was told to reload previous firmware and that would correct issues! What’s the sense in doing that, I want to be able to use latest firmware! Also was told it was issue with my Orbi RBR50 router and Orbi App! Pay a lot for these routers should be no issues with router or App!

No Real App Updates. Many of the reviews here praise the app because of the Netgear hardware, but these reviews are confusing the fact that reviews here are for the app. I agree, the hardware is great, and reliable, but the app hasn't had any real changes in about two years. I'm a paying customer for their services and those appear to do nothing either. Many of the app workflows are confusing or don't work well. I have a network with over 100 devices (smart home) and the network management features are not designed for large networks. This is the only app I know that you scroll horizontally over 100 devices, it doesn't work well. Also, I get notifications of new devices joining the network, but when I tap on it to get to it, I'm sent to the same horizontal list with out the new device being selected, no hint as to which device joined. No sorting, no filtering, no grouping. I WILL BE CANCELING BOTH SUBSCRIPTIONS WHEN THEY COME UP FOR RENEWAL.

Can’t hurt their business…I’m only 1 customer. The app is just ok as it applies to the UI. The main issue is that the status that displays in the app, is sometimes inaccurate, and is usually different than what displays on the web portal. Overall, I am VERY dissatisfied with both the hardware and the software, because I’ve only had this kit for 18 months and the satellite RBS50, is inoperable after 1.5 years of use. Netgear support admitted that the satellite is now useless and refused to address it, because I didn’t purchase the extra coverage and I am past 1 year. They did not want to discuss it with me, and longer, so they lied and said they would escalate it and email me within 48 hours. The only thing this accomplished was getting me off the phone. It is true that the customer service rep was cordial, but I really don’t appreciate being lied to, not to mention wasting money on something that should last more than a year and a half. Now, the WiFi signal on the router (RBR50) goes out about once a day. I guess Netgear expects consumers to replace technology about once every 2 years or so…Keeps them in business, I guess. But hey, I can’t hurt their business, I’m only 1 customer.

Something is wrong!!!. I am sooooo frustrated with this app. First off I would like to say I have technical aptitude. I have tech background. This app will log me out after a few months, then when prompted to enter the admin password(s) (that I’ve changed 3 times now) it doesn’t recognize the password!!!! No I’m not an idiot who didn’t write down my password. I have had to do this 3 times since I purchased this system over a year ago. This has caused me to do a factory rest 3 times!!!!! I then have to reprogram my alarm system cameras and enter new passwords on all connected devices. If you call customer support, they want to charge you almost 200$ just to get help. I am so tired of Netgear. I would return this product if I could. The mesh system works fine otherwise. The app has some serious glitch problems. Here’s the kicker… the app works if I use it in remote connect mode!!!!! If I connect to my WiFi… it prompts me to log in. Totally ridiculous. I’m finished with Netgear.

Once it's setup, it's great!!. I've had the Orbi WiFi station with two satellite units for about ten months now. The setup presented me with a bit of a rough start but it could be contributed to my not understanding the instructions fully. Once I was done setting it up, everything worked great!! I love the app as it allows you to monitor your Wi-Fi network and it shows all devices connected to your network. The app also allows you to turn off individual connected devices. You can also see each device and which satellite it's connecting to or if that device is connected to the base station. You can also reboot the Orbi router from the app. I really like this setup and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for complete whole house coverage of their WiFi modem signal. I live in a 3100 square foot house. There is a pretty good distance between my Wi-Fi base station and other rooms in the house. I had weak signals in several areas of the house but this Orbi fixed that problem once and for all.

Used to be a great product. Orbi successfully used to cover my house in fast WiFi. There has always been a degree of dropped satellites etc, but nothing major. With the last update, the app is pretty much useless. If I’m at home and connected to my Orbi, the app can’t find the network or wants me to login as admin (not allowing me to input my actual user name, the default stays on admin and my password does nothing. If I turn the WiFi of my phone off, and connect to Orbi remotely, it works fine and I can see all of my devices . Problem is, I have very poor cell coverage at home, which is why I want my WiFi to be great. With what just be an entire company full of technology minded people, why have they allowed their product to be buggy for so long after an update. Customer service is tough to contact and even harder to get them to follow up. Hate to say it, but I’d go with a different mesh network if I hadn’t already sunk hundreds of dollars into this one.

Worse than no app at all. This app seems to serve no purpose other than adding a layer of unresponsiveness in front of the Orbi router. It takes an otherwise reasonable setup process that takes a few minutes and turns it into an hour long affair that must be repeated constantly. Some issues I’ve noted: 1) the app makes you log in every time you open it, regardless of if you ask it to remember you. 2) every time I open the app, it tells me I need to configure my Orbi, which is already configured. In order for it to stop displaying this message, I have to log in to the router from the browser. 3) there are no actually helpful tips in the app when configuring. If your setup process goes wrong, it drops you to a static page that tells you to make sure your location services are on (which it should just detect), or gives you the option to try again. It is the app equivalent of screaming at a brick wall. 4) It is almost comically slow. Connecting to a new Orbi device from the browser takes seconds, but every loading screen on the app tells you to wait three to five minutes as it lumps along on what I assume is the worst codebase on any app in the App Store. I have never written an app review before, but my experience with this garbage has been so frustrating I decided to break that rule. Do yourself a favor, don’t buy this product, don’t download this app, get literally any other mesh router.

Unbelievable. I was having major problems with my wifi. We have a 3 floor townhouse that has cement in the walls between units and AC/heating ducts throughout the house. Needless to say the wifi in our place was terrible in the basement. Because we now work from home we built an office on the top floor. Router is on this floor because of necessity but now the 2 lower floors have very spotty wifi. I didn’t want to make a big investment so I bought a smaller extender. It didn’t work well so I returned it and bought another one. That didn’t work well either. I finally caved and spent a little more than I wanted to and I am so glad I did. The Orbi system is SPECTACULAR! It was easy to set up and I have 2 satellite components on the main floor and in the basement. I went from 34 mbps to 227 mbps. This was one of the best investments I made during the pandemic and the subsequent work from home situation.

Great product, good app.. I’ve had the Orbi 835 series for a year now. I’m very well versed in Orbi, Nighthawk, Eeros, UniFi, and other network solutions. I really love my Orbi system. I have 5 access points. Three are the 835 series, two are the 725 series and they work seamlessly together. I wish Orbi had a WiFi 6 outdoor access point, but sadly they don’t. The app is good albiet a little slow at times. It’s also hard to switch from access anywhere vs. local access. I don’t like the VPN in bitdefender. It’s locks up your device and there is no easy way to adjust restrictions. For some reason there hasn’t been a firmware update in a while and I don’t understand why. Also the app doesn’t really work well when I want to cut access to a device. The desktop or web interface doesn’t really do anything. You’re limited to mostly the phone or iPad. The Speedtest in the app seems a little inaccurate vs other Speedtest apps that tend to have WAY DIFFERENT PERFORMANCE. All and all I like orbi and app but overall, 8 out of 10.

High Hopes Dashed. When I purchased the Orbi 863 package with one router and two satellites, I was extremely excited about how awesome of an experience I was going to have. These expectations were based on my past experience with Netgear, and Netgear support. (which includes this app.). Well, boy have I been let down and then some. The hardware seems to be adequate… However, it is nowhere near the asking price of over 1200 bucks. There are equal systems out there that have better software and better support. I’ll be looking to them from now on unless Netgear somehow miraculously finds a good software engineer… Along with somebody with the hospitality management training and experience to turn their support service around. Two bucks in the app one I can’t access access control on the web interface or the app. And also, and this is a big deal, I have no access to pro support that I paid for a two year subscription. All it will show me under support. Is that my original 90 day grace period that they give you with a new purchase of Orbi products is expired. Well that’s why I paid for the two year subscription so give me access to it, please. I know that nobody from Netgear has the drive or desire to succeed enough to read these reviews for customers or perspective customers beware of Netgear software and beware of their support.

Customer support. Recently purchased RBR/S 50 and added an outdoor satellite. While the system is new and requiring a few firmware updates, it seems to be functioning as advertised, which is to say excellent. I had to spend a great deal of time on the phone with customer support, which is a major negative, but for once in my life I can say the customer support was absolutely outstanding. Yes, it was with an IT guy in India, but he patiently worked with me (I’m NOT a computer guy) for over two hours and walked me through the step by step process to update the firmware to get the system functioning properly. My hat is off to their support team over there, it was 5:30am and his shift was ending yet he slugged it out with me and got everything up and running. Huge thanks and much appreciation. Now, if someone can figure out a way to get better internet bandwidth in Mexico, I’m all ears.

Blazing fast, but setup was a nightmare. Just moved into a 100-year old multi-story house with plaster walls that were eating my old wifi signal alive, so I switched to Orbi after seeing the great reviews. Now that it’s finally set up it seems solid, and the reviews weren’t kidding: the 500Mbps wireless throughput still blows my mind. But Netgear has got to figure out why it’s iOS setup process is so terrible. I have as simple a setup as one could: pulled the router and satellite out of the box, plugged them in, but it took half a dozen tries for them even to recognize each other. And worst of all, every time the devices refused to cooperate, the app just sat there with no help, no advice. Netgear is clearly a hardware company, not a software company. I hope they’ll do some serious, advanced testing of their app—especially the new user onboarding process—so others won’t find themselves stuck in a seemingly endless loop of failure and rebooting as I was for nearly an hour. Finally, their decision not to devote the meager resources to enabling landscape mode in the iPad version of their setup app is a slap in the face to users. I use my iPad as a mini-laptop, with a keyboard case, and their app is one of the only apps I’ve seen that stubbornly refuses to rotate the UI to accommodate my setup.

Solved all of our WiFi dropouts!. Have the xfinity xfi gateway 1gb plan and their WiFi service is not very good on its own, coverage for a big home was terrible and in an act of despair, having had multiple calls to xfinity customer service, it was recommended that I purchase the xfi xpods mesh system to help upgrade the WiFi experience; long story short, the WiFi in our home got worse, continued intermittent connectivity dropouts, family members upset bc their games didn’t work or dropped, etc. I had to reboot the XB6/gateway everyday but that really didn’t help much. Beyond frustrating! Enter the Orbi Mesh RBK753. Before plugging in the Orbi to my network, I had to first disable WiFi at the Xfinity gateway completely then put it into bridge mode. From there, I followed the directions for the Orbi router setup and placement of the two satellites with the guidance of the Orbi iOS app. I was able to get everything up and running within 10-15 minutes. No more WiFi dropouts and four times the speed throughout the house. The iOS Orbi app is stable but I wish it had parental controls included otherwise I would give this five stars.

Horrible App. This app is a disgrace for Netgear. It allegedly lets you set up an Orbi system, but let me back up slightly. When you open the Orbi box there is no instructions on setting up, just “download the Orbi app”. Ok, I do that and go through the process ... and the wi-fi is VERY buggy. After much wasted time I figure out how to login via the internet as an admin. Of course this information IS NOT included in the app. On the admin site I discover how to set the ORBI as an Access Point. Very, very, very important step in porter to use with my cable router (for internet, TV, phone). Ok, get this going. Still have problems but I get the system sort of working. Then I discover on the Netgear site that there is a User Manual for the ORBI. Why isn’t this linked in the “Getting Started” piece of crap they include with the hardware or on the Orbi app? This is just disgraceful! As a part of my searching for information I discover there are updates to the firmware on the Netgear site, but for some reason the app and the admin site do not see these, huh? After finally getting the system essentially stable my wife accidentally unplugs the power cord. Now the system is totally unstable and the app is ZERO use. If I can, I will return the Orbi ....

Reliable and stable way to network. After having been an ORBI user for over 5 years and having changed providers, the unit and its satélites make a reliable and fast way to connect to the internet. We use the network to do a variety of activities on line and they have worked flawlessly due to the consistency of the unit and satélites. The reach is sufficient to cover the entire perimeter of my home and large outdoor areas. Positioning the satélites at different levels of the home is the key to coverage. The main unit is hardwired to the router and placed in the center of the house and the other units are at the further ends of the house. Try different locations if your system is weak in some areas. Update your firmware often and you will enjoy a fast and reliable internet throughout your home.

Doesn’t Work And They Don’t Care. This app is nothing but a screaming frustration. We have so many issues with it, and with the supposed ‘Support’ we paid for (another waste) and the admins of this app could care less. We’ve opened case complaints with them, which are NEVER followed through on. Their front line ‘support’ either doesn’t have the authority or the training to solve issues and when our case was kicked to to ‘App Team’ for resolution, it might as well have been kicked into a black hole. No one from NETGEAR has EVER responded in any fashion to our issues, and when we call ‘premium’ support they are nothing short of obstructionist, refusing to acknowledge a case has moved beyond their capacity to resolve. Our case complaints for multiple problems with this app was opened on August 29th. As of Sept 3rd, No One from NETGEAR has contacted us as promised, (originally supposed to be 24 hours. Then 48. Then - silence from them) Don’t waste your money or your time with this app - the admins/creators certainly don’t want to waste any of theirs with those of us who have purchased this system and downloaded this app - and encounter problems.

Works well. I give it a perfect rating for setup and initial configuration. I bought a Netgear Orbi AC3000 router with an additional satellite. I plugged them in, followed the prompts on the app and I was up and going with excellent WiFi in no time! Once you’re in there’s not much to the app other than monitoring the speed and connection. My one critique is their insistence on downloading a separate app called “circle” to utilize most of its unique features. If you want to pause internet, set up parental controls, and manage specific devices, you must download Circle. First of all why cant all of this integrate with the Orbi app? And second, upon downloading Circle (and setting up yet another account), you must pay a monthly subscription if you want to use it. (Yes there’s a free account option but it’s extremely limited - not worth it). Call me old fashioned I assumed all this would be included with a very expensive router but I guess not. It’s not the end of the world, but the circle thing felt like a bait and switch. Over all, I give it a good rating because it works well, but not perfect because I don’t want to pay a monthly subscription.

Total mess of an app. I had a nightmare with the setup. It didn’t recognize the satellite when it was 10 feet away. This app provides nothing but endless waiting. Search for the satellite? How about watching a spinning circle for 3 minutes? Now do that 20 times and you will start to get the idea. For some operations there is a progress bar, but for most it is just a spinner and a message to wait for several minutes. After a reset the router forgot all admin passwords (including the default!) and was inaccessible. Finally after some combination of resets and new setups and power cycles, it finally found the satellite. Ultimately I started the install around 5pm, and everything was up and running by 9pm. The router has been working well for 8 days, but the app is broken. The device list is populated, but the app says none of them are connected to the network. The network map shows both routers, but no connected devices for either of them. The web interface for the router works as expected and shows all connected devices properly. So it is clearly an issue with the app parsing the data provided by the router. Finally, the app forces you into creating an account, and demands personal information. It automatically signs you up for trials of some virus protection BS, filling my inbox with spam from a company that I never interacted with. Welcome to a world with ads ON your router. This app is pathetically poor, and 2 stars is a very generous rating.

Ga girl living in Al!. After 6 months on I will say I am impressed! I purchased this because of the WFH order but with everyone home I was struggling to actually work! I have not had one Teams, WebEx, Skype or Go To meeting lag time meeting since instillation and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Watching a moving using my Firestick and Dish has never been better! I decided not to take a star away for the lack of instal directions but to simply include them in hopes others can have a less frustrating install. -Unpack it completely and place your Orbi’s where you will use them and leave them there don’t plug into electricity. -Download the software -Go to your ISP and disable their WIFI signal. -Begin with the included directions to this point. KEY! If you have to start over.. use a pin to reset the Orbi holding it in for 5-10 seconds until the lights change. If you do not turn off your WiFi signal Peace be with you! You will go in circles! And don’t name it the same! Worst advice!

Works great some of the time. After researching pretty extensively I decided to upgrade to Orbi. Also, I have the Zodiac iAqualink pool automation system with the iQ20 wifi receiver which I installed about three years ago. Problem is upgrading from Apple Airport Extreme to Orbi actually made things worse instead of better. Now my iAqualink system goes offline constantly. After having a pool automation expert look at it he recommended that I purchase the Orbi outdoor satellite. I did that and now have a strong signal at the pool equipment but still the iQ20 will not connect. After talking to Zodiac tech support they said that iAqualink will not work because the Orbi band steers between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and that the Orbi needs to be set to static 2.4Ghz. There is no easy way to change to static 2.4. I ended up setting up two separate SSID’s: one for each band. Now the iQ20 will connect about 10 percent of the time. On the positive side, in the house I have great signal in all rooms and streaming shows and movies work fine. The reason the app gets 3 stars is because only the most used settings can be changed there. Have to go to a web browser for advanced settings.

Requires premium subscriptions for features others include for free. I’ve Had this 1 day. It cost a LOT of money. It’s a good system once all set up, and the app works well enough. However I’m very disappointed to find that the Orbi has zero useful parental control or security features unless you subscribe to 2 independent ‘premium’ services for these. The services look like they would be very functional, but you only get trial/basic access included with the Orbi purchase. My old router, provided for free from my ISP has access time and filtering capabilities built in, as do most these days. To shell out this much cash and have to then pay more ($7.50/mth for the parental controls) is absurd. Give us a way to configure this on the router without subscribing.

Home network. I have a place with concrete walls so I have had so much trouble with reception. My computer and internet modem is at one end of the place and my tv is at the other. I bought a Netgear Orbi with 2 satellites. Easy to install and works brilliantly. Tv works well now with my set top box and my mobile service has improved immensely. Very happy with my purchase.

Setup. All went well and going smooth until we had to connect to the actual internet. Connection could not be made. According to my tech wizard son this is common for an American product in Australia. Not to hard to fix, if you know what to look for. He can not get here for a few days, luckily we can still use the old network. Why is this not pointed out at point of sale? Cheers,

Dodgy conduct. Before updating to the latest version, the update summary provided by the developer only stated version enhancements and bug fixes. It did not provide any indication that the latest update would require you to agree to new terms including the collection and use of your private analytics data without the option to opt out. You have no choice but to agree. That is really poor form and misleading conduct. I have purchased this item on the premise I can use and control from the app directly and for net gear to take that away from me after purchase because I do not wish for them to collect and use my private data is not ethical. Cmon - play fair and treat customers with respect. Don’t mislead and take advantage of customers. Give customers a choice with their private data so they can continue to use the app. Netgear have really gone downhill and just annoy me now.

Doesn’t find router, no support, no parental controls. My app has stopped finding the router on the network while installed on my phone. There’s no obvious reason for it (I am connected to the correct WiFi) and it works on the iPad. No support available from netgear, as apparently my support has expired even though I’ve had these devices a few months only!! There is no parental control available with this app (or anything else), something you’d think would be a basic feature nowadays

Great router, painful app. Very impressed with the router but cannot stand the app. Unable to turn on or off data for more than one device at a time without closing and restarting app otherwise it crashes. Then every now and again it will require logging in again with multi factor authentication despite being on same network and having just been logged in to. All this still occurs regardless of numerous updates.

Doing what it said it would.. Setup was easy and after a few teething troubles (with creating a hidden network) and some experimenting with best satellite placement, it’s been fast and reliable and easy to manage with the Orbi app. Happy with the performance for the cost. Would have liked a few more Ethernet ports and maybe a USB port on the satellites, but otherwise it’s all good.

The app is absolutely pathetic!. The app is so clunky and each time it’s updated it might work or it might not. Last night I could use the app with a one time password and remove a device from my network, today with the app I can’t login and I can’t give access for the device to the network so it’s locked out! 😡 Forgot my password doesn’t follow the pattern of behaviour for forgot my password. You used to be able to use a one time password, forget that because of/when you can get a one time password it takes to to reset a password only if you can remember a password for the ‘admin’ account which you never named ‘admin’. Get some people in your team and get some UX Designers if you don’t have any, or replace them with ones who know what they’re doing, because your app is total garbage! 😡

No functionality - Great Wifi. Since buying the Orbi RB50 mid 2017 our home coverage, speed and reliability has never been better. BUT it has been crushed in the functionality in the department by the likes of “another cheaper wifi extender” whom I won’t mention here - by adding some simple app controls like wifi restriction per device, parental time controls and update version info/manual updates via the app it would truly make this the worlds best Triband. Better Wifi everywhere - now we just need to control it. Netgear hopefully there will be an update with these features in the very near future don’t let parents like myself end up downgrading to a worse Triband just to keep up with the required controls. Hope you guys get this.. thanks

Local network access no longer functions. The Orbi hardware is excellent and has drastically improved my network speeds. One thing that could be improved is the app, when first setting up my Orbi satellites the app worked when connecting locally for a few months but it seems after an update or bug has possibly caused issues with the Local Network Access. Which sometimes forces me to use the web interface or Anywhere Access but even when that works, some of the features I need require me to be connected locally.

Security costs extra. It’s not a bad app for managing the Orbi’s basic functions, but if you need to do something interesting, then you need to go through the Orbi’s web interface - which tells you that the app is better the whole time that you’re using it. After a month, the app’s security features become a subscription service. On a $1500 set of routers, I would expect security to be standard and included, not a subscription add on. My next router will not be from this brand because my security needs to be as important to my router manufacturer as it is to me.

Great machines. After much considerations between a high end router or Orbi rbk50, decided to go with orbi for extra coverage since gaming is secondary. Easy to setup, download the app, plug in the machines, restart the apps, follow the prompts, done. The longest wait time was sync and updates which took about 8min altogether. Most important of all there is no reduction in connection speed at satellite. Highly recommended.

Simple if you're careful. I didn't need parental controls (costs extra for Circle app) or Armor (Bitdefender, also costs extra); just fast backhaul through a brick wall ;-) I changed the network name (SSID), and then needed to go into settings and turn WiFi off/on and make sure my iPhone was connected to the new name, before the app durected setup could continue. If you don't change anything (but do set an admin password), it should be a smooth install without much expertise needed.

Orbi installation. Now that my Orbi is installed I am really happy with the speed, convenience and in particular the app, which makes managing my household internet usage and devices a breeze. On the negative side my ISP required a specific set up which the app simply would not permit. I finally managed to get around this by accessing the modem through my notebook and browser. Once in and by following my ISP’s directions it wasn’t too difficult to setup and now working I can use the app without problems. App: 10/10 Orbi and satellite: 10/10 Speed and coverage: 10/10 Installation: 5/10

Too expensive for service offered. WiFi seems okay mostly but some dropping in and out. My main issues is being expected to pay for parental controls, i.e. having to pay for circle so WiFi to individual devices can be regulated. Really frustrating as WiFi modem provided by nbn provider did this but didn’t provide coverage if house that Orbi does. If I was purchasing again I’d look for something with free parental controls

Works straight out of the box. Installed and had fully operational within less than 30 minutes. This included firmware upgrades that were automatically detected and installed. I used to have routers and extenders to cover a large apartment. The Base Station and one Satellite provide fast coverage in all rooms. Should have upgraded earlier.

Very reliable devices. I’ve been using the Orbi devices for more than a year. It’s a very stable and reliable device. The signal is strong, if you have a mesh device connected, you’ll for sure receive strong signal around the house and garden. I recommend to purchase this brand for wifi network.

Icons please. One of the main reasons I got this router was because was it supported a lot of devices with different icons. Even on the box art and within this app’s screenshots it shows “PlayStation 4” with a PS4 icon even iPhone X and MacBook icons. The router or app cannot detect this level of information of a connected device. Why show that it can in the advertising when it can’t? Please provided the Icons you show in the app and box art. False advertising or lies? You decide.

Fantastic WiFi speeds throughout the house. We are so happy with our Orbi. We got the one with one router and two satellites. We now get the same WiFi speeds through the whole house and only one WiFi name. We have NBN and connected the Orbi to our NBN router after turning off WiFi on the NBN router and plugging the Orbi into one of the Ethernet points on the NBN router. I highly recommend Orbi.

Purchased for the Orbi RBK853. App has been seamless in allowing me to efficiently get me new mesh network up and running. I was quite surprised at how simple updating firmware can be. I am a long time customer of Netgear, and it is products like this that keeps me coming back.

Crappy UX. This app is a masterpiece in how to overcomplicate something that should be so easy, that the end result is that the task to be completed, actually cannot be completed. I can only assume the monster who wrote this software actually attempted to make something that was both unusable and reliable at the same time. In that case. Bravo. Well done. You did a great job. I tried to set up router. Can't do that. Because I need a net gear account, to get a net gear account I need internet, which means I need router working. Revert to mobile data. Try to enter password from password manager. Let's me paste to password field but it doesn't populate the field with what I pasted. Finally setup. Now it wants to check for firmware. This times out. F great. Revert to using PC to login so I can skip. But now it has decided the password I copied from my password manager is incorrect. And I need to reset it using the serial number on the unit itself. Time to go hang myself I think. This should have been a 5 minute job, it took an hour following the steps exactly as per the app.

Does not support setup of smart home deceives. To be clear the ORBI NEST setup does produce a 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz networks under the “Nest”. However, they presume the user is operating at the lowest level of understanding of communication networks. Their selling point is that the system is so smart it can decide which network your device should be on ( ie it will choose a 2.4 or 5 ghz network for you)…. Cool huh? NO …. Smart home devices (smart lights, garage controllers, tesla wall charger and my Sauna) require that their initial setup be conducted with a device connected to 2.4ghz. So my issue is - ORBI wont allow me to push my phone to a 2.4ghz network to connect these other VERY EXPENSIVE devices to the wifi network. I need you to enable a feature that is so so so basic - so basic that even the lower end wifi router producing companies can provide. Otherwise, I need to change my choice of home wifi router providers. I have invested a lot in the Netgear ORBI system and cannot believe you haven’t done basic user testing with actual users …

Easy to install, privacy issues!. I was blown away by how easy this was to install in my home after using so many difficult and crappy wifi extenders that meant I had to login to separate routers throughout the house.. this is seamless technology that is awesome to use. HOWEVER.. updating the firmware is not straightforward and I seem to get error messages. Also I do not agree with the collection of my personal data without my consent. I’ve spend over $500 on this system and expected personal control on how I use this system and what if any data is collected and distributed to 3rd parties.

Finally works but painful setup. Was expecting a far smoother installation than it turned out to be. I’m pretty clued on when it comes to this sort of thing, working in the industry for 20+ years, but even with my background this wasn’t simple. There’s no way my wife could have done it, let alone my mother. Anyway it working now. Three requests though: 1. Please look into why the app draws so much power that after a few minutes my iPhone 11 Pro is almost too hot to hold. If I exit the app it cools down again. This app is really pushing the CPU hard - for what reason I can’t imagine. 2. Please provide more device type icons! I have home devices such as door bells and garage doors on my network and the lack of icons is triggering my OCD. 3. The spam catcher features loses its mind if I open an in-app ad. Like notifications every second until the ad page is closed. The feature is a good idea but it’s far too aggressive. Would be nice to include some whitelisting facility to avoid FPNH (false-positive notification hell!)

Great product, terrible app. The Orbi product works great, no questions there. The mobile app to actually set up the Orbi does not. After 2hrs trying to get it to work with the app I had to hard reset the device and use the web interface to actually set it up. I have a tech/IT background and found it a challenge so can only imagine someone who isn’t tech savvy attempting it. I would recommend using the web interface straight up and only bother with the app after it’s set up if you don’t like using the web interface.

First class.. It all worked first go straight out of the box. The simple app made installation easy. It connected seamlessly to our home’s nbn Telstra Smart Business Gateway (Netgear v7610) and simply allowed wired connections between the Orbi router and the Orbi satellites. We now have fast wifi and seamless roaming throughout our large house and in our separate guest house. A much needed and great product.

Great speeds. I purchased the Orbi because my Current plug in extender just wasn't cutting it. I am getting around 75 MPS from my modem but only achieved around 10 and 12 from the wifi extender. Once I replaced it with the Orbi I am constantly achieving high 40s on wifi on the other side of my home. Very impressed with this unit and would recommend. Phil

Great App for everyday use. The setup is not easy through the app if you ISP needs you to configure the VLAN etc. But the day to day tracking, monitoring, network overview and usage is good. Would be better if they had an advanced section for the vlan and also a more in-depth traffic monitor without parental controls but all things considered for a free app it provides enough.

Fixed a wireless black hole and more. After trying many extenders, wireless and power line to deal with wireless black holes in my house I tried Orbi. It not only covers the black holes but now provides an excellent signal all over my 800 sq m block. It is expensive but cheaper than the total of all the other extenders I tried.

Not impressed. Functional app it is not. When you pay for a product you should get the whole package for the function. NOT subscription based add ons. Accessing web browser based settings is creepy when Netgear is tracking you. All this software is also needed as my Orbi RB50 constantly goes into repetitive slow down until it is factory reset every week. Disappointing. Netgear won’t be my next purchase.

Can’t believe it. I was doubtful at first weighing up the cost. But…after a few hours and testing…I think it’s all worth it. The initial main router setup was easy and worked well. But the process of adding the 2 satellites were the main reason for the “hours”. But eventually did work and was connected. The lighting system to indicate the pairing wasn’t so good. The button wasn’t so good, no instruction to say how long to press or if the “pressed” had worked. So lots of trial n error again made the setup longer. Otherwise, 100%

I’m impressed. After trying many extender devices over the years I have never seen a more seamless, simple and efficient system as this. Better speed than I originally had (25 Mbps is now 27) and can reach every inch of the house where it used to drop to 3 Mbps in the far corner. Very impressed!

Setup. Setting up my new Orbi was dreadful. Firstly, got zero internet connection. After 3 failures, changed out the new cat5 Ethernet cable supplied by Orbi with the old cat6 from my old router. Solved that problem immediately. The simply could not initialise via the app. After 3 more failures, call my son to come over and help. Long story short, while he is a techno wizard it took him about 2 hours to get us going. He had no idea why, he supposed my iPhone had some sort of incompatibility. So it’s been set up on his phone, with him as the administrator. Not ideal but it works. That’s the only reason I rated it as high as 3.

WiFi coverage troubles in big solid house. I have tried just about everything on the market at the top end but still have dead spots & slow coverage until I brought the Orbi49. This unit is just fabulous. I have all the coverage & more at fantastic speed

Good… when it works. Sigh. Super fast when it works but Soooo many issues with the Parental controls and laggy and unstable connection. App connection gets locked and can’t reconnect to the network. Satellites drop connection and won’t reconnect without been fully rebooted. The paid VPN upgrade features allow you to select which country IP you want but not on your mobile and you can’t do that at the router for other devices or the whole network. The main Netgear account login is super slow and clunky. For top of the range kit it has been a disappointing experience so far.

Best app for the best router. I was very skeptical to buy an Orbi System and when it got offered for a very affordable price, I immediately bought the system. And I downloaded the Orbi app. Using this app made it very easy to setup my Orbi System and couldn’t be happier. :)

Love my Orbi. Have terrible nbn connection so wi gi was also atrocious, purchased my Orbi now have a better signal throughout my house. Only disappointed as you can’t piggy back easily from the satellite to increase range to my garage. I read that some people have quite a significant distance between Orbi and its satellite. I can only get a few metres. But even so love my Orbi

Was good, but still has same issue reported 3 versions ago. This has been a good tool for me, especially when managing both routers and satellites. However, for the past 6 months, I cannot see which devices are attached to either the router or satellite in the network map. This makes diagnosing network issues between the router and satellites difficult, as I can’t see where my devices are connecting. Please fix!

Magic. Just bought and set up an Orbi for my wife’s home business. Every device connected first time with ease - even the ones that are usually tricky and take a few tries. If this performance continues the Orbi will have payed for itself many times over. Now we just need the NBN to perform.

Totally rocks. I was sceptical that anything Telstra would work, the retail store knowledge was non existent, I had to reset the firmware to get anywhere and now I’m flying, if you have any issues getting the Orbi app to find the unit just link to the wi fi and open a browser under the modem address and it recognised the need to update... clearly a product that has been in a box on the shelf too long. But now it works it’s better than broadband as long as we don’t get ripped off with data usage. If we do we all flip to Elon musk StarTrack overnight.

90% there, generally great app. The Orbi app works very well to control and configure my Orbi system. It loses one star because it won’t work on the iPad in landscape mode (I use a keyboard case) and lacks some advanced functionality that means I still need to log in on the desktop PC sometimes. It would also be nice to have a function that clears all ‘previously connected’ devices to keep the job of seeing what is actually connected easier. Overall a very good app.

Truly awful. Requires yet another account to use, with a data policy that's probably illegal in several jurisdictions. I can't wait to see my email address in a data leak from you clowns soon. The setup process is quite broken, and has huge artificial wait times built in to account for the device taking 5 minutes to boot. I'm taking this expensive rubbish straight back to the shop. The devices are fine, but this app is embarrassingly bad for the price of these routers.

Glitchy Orbi App. Linking a newly purchased product with your Netgear Account is not easy and requires the app to reboot and rejoin the network! I just spent over a grand buying the AX4200 Mesh router and two satellites. Have just spent 1 hour trouble shooting a glitchy app by mysef and then another hour with the Netgear Tech Support who was familiar with the issues, meaning it’s a recurring problem. When you spend over $1,000 on product you expect the App to be supportive, not some cheap glitchy experience!

Doesn’t show connected devices. Update: Orbi icon randomly disappears on Home Screen. I have to restart the app. Every update it asks me to login and setup two factor authentication, but alway errors and freezes the app, so I have to restart it. Still doesn’t show all devices connected to the network and sometimes loses the device icon and mixes up the type of connection. Very buggy app. —- Update: I emailed support as requested weeks ago and I never got a reply. Still shows no devices connected. As already mentioned support is bad. ————> I’ve got 30 plus devices on my network and nothing shows up under device manager or the network map. This has been an issue for sometime but got worse after the latest update. They do show up in the web interface. Netgear is there a solution? Thx

App doesn’t detect product. The app regularly upon opening it doesn’t think I’m on my own Orbi wifi network when I clearly am and the only workaround is to connect remotely, while on wifi and I can access router functions. This also happens when using a web browser. Usually a reboot of the whole orbi network fixes it but this issue has come back 3 or 4 times now and I shouldn’t have to keep rebooting. The other issue I have is one of my satellites is connect via Ethernet backhal but if I reboot my network that satellite fails to reconnect unless I unplug Ethernet cable wait a few moments then plug it back in

Better than the previous modem I had.. This application is very neatly tab, great features I like the option to have a antivirus installed rather than having their own it should allow the users their own antivirus which could save money if a user has a multiple device antivirus software. I know In the past Netgear had this option but it didn’t work out which their experts need to fix the bugs which caused the problem, it’s pointless to have more than one antivirus brands try not to rob our pockets.

Doesn’t show all devices. Ever since the last firmware update neither the app nor the web portal show all devices attached to the router. It only shows about two thirds, despite the others still connected and working fine. Additionally one whole satellite doesn’t appear in the network app. This renders the whole thing completely pointless as I can’t see what devices are attached to what, and have no idea if someone else has managed to get on to my network.

Setup can’t find satellite. Bought this recently for my parents. Setup of the mesh router and satellite is really slow. The app first takes 2min for the satellite to power up, then another 2-3min to try and find the satellite. The app never found it even after trying all the troubleshooting steps multiple times. For some strange reason the app detects the satellite now - despite the app never finding it. Google Wifi/Home setup was much quicker and better in comparison.

Works but just enough annoyances to lose points. It’s taken more than a day for this networking professional using this app to get the network to stay available while untangling all the components that insist on remembering too much. IPad used to rename network but iPhone still insists on connecting to the old name and complaining that it doesn't exist with no simple settings to reset. Not everything can be solved with a single path wizard.

My wifi is 10x faster. This product and app is so easy to use and setup. I couldn’t believe how much faster my wifi speeds are now. I was getting 20-30MBS download and now I’m getting 240mbs. The satellites are amazing at extending the wifi coverage but it doesn’t lose any speed at all. I can’t believe I waited this long to upgrade my router !

Très bon produit et utile.. Je recommande fortement ce produit car j’ai essayé d’autres avant mais Orbi est de loins plus efficace.

The most dumb app and device I ever used. I just buy this router (my old one start having issues and I had to replace it). Luckily I got it from Costco and I am going to return it in a week or so! Every router these days has a basic parental control by default and you don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars, this one has none as long as you don't pay another 100-120 dollars per year! This is going back to Costco and I only use it until or I fix the old one or I get a better one. A… and if you want security you need another subscription! You practically have to pay the cost of two decent routers per year on top of the original cost! Stay away!

Самое неудобное... Это Самое неудобное что когда либо видел!!!

I just wanted a fast router not an administrative hassle. The technology has been great but everything else has been very poor. I had to create an account to use the app which should not be the case. I kept getting prompts to pay for services I did not want. Now the login to the app is not recognizing the password and I have to reset everything.

Garbage. This app is a real garbage, useless in most ways, not even able to show the network status correctly. It's very slow and most of the functionality is broken. I paid for parental control and can't even add devices to different profiles. Beware!!

Support. My satellite would not sink. They wanted $89 to tell me how to solve the problem. Their problem! That is the worst “support” I ever got from a company. I will never buy Netgear again

This app needs to learn from Eero. The log in screen fails regularly which makes harder to access system even with Face ID turned on. The app has a confusion navigation. Things can be challenging to be found. Please learn from Eero’s app interface.

Always lagging. Constant not clear fuzzy

Great product - Mesh system.. Love it, it’s so fast and I have had no issues. Use a rogers setup and bridged it to the Orbi. Great app too. Highly recommend.

Requires account 👎👎👎👎👎. Seriously? Users need to start telling companies to when companies pull this. There is no acceptable reason to require an account for me to administer MY OWN DEVICE in MY OWN HOME!

Not a great app compared to other routers. For something as expensive and high performance as an Orbi mesh router, this app pushes its paid armor service, constantly logs out, sometimes it says “loading” when it really means frozen. Years ago I had a cheap router that had mediocre software that was still a lot more functional than this app is. For that reason I’ll probably look into other routers in the future.

Key features not working. Upgraded from RBK50 to RBK853 and access anywhere does not work (without explanation)and speed tops out at 940 Mbps consistently even though home has 1.5 Gbps!

Customer service terrible. Modern technology and the people on the 1800 have no idea how it works Wow

App Was Ok …. Had the Orbi mesh system for years. RBR50. A few days ago the guest wifi stopped working, you could connect but no internet - when I attempted to turn it off / on, it refused to accept any password, broadcasting my guest wifi with no password. Often times would not even let me turn it off. Had to use the web gui to get it working again. Apparently this app as of its last release is now full of bugs. I also started getting random notifications from the Orbi app linking me to the guest wifi page in the app. Never received a single one prior to this. Breaking security is a huge deal, there is no excuse for this.

Meilleur achat.

This app as terrible optimization. I get kicked out of my account every couple months for no reason at all. Whether it be security purposes or just a bug its very annoying considering we have face ID to verify our identity. I wouldn’t mind going through this process if the app was more responsive rather than me looking at a screen load forever.

Frustratingly Inconsistent. I have a set of three Orbi SR60s that I’ve been using for two and a half years. From ‘You are not connected to the internet’ to being unable to log in for months because of an update issue, to having multiple smart home items blocked from connecting without being able to tell how or why in the app, I am sincerely disappointed in this app. Just incredibly buggy. In terms of competence with networks and setting up mesh systems I would consider myself a mid-level user. I can figure out most problems using experience, google and trial and error. I have a demanding engineering career and do not want to spend time dealing with tech support, I want an intuitive app that just works. This is not that app. It seems to be riddled with connectivity issues and is frequently unable to even connect to my router and the two satellites I have. I just stopped using it after it told me for the 20th time it couldn’t find my hardware. If there’s an issue with the mesh system I do a hard reset and let it reconnect; no need to open the app because it wouldn’t help anyways. I have purchased a set of ASUS XT8s and am anticipating a better experience from the ASUS app. Too bad because the SR60s were so promising.

Misleading. I have the Orbi RBR763S. App description is misleading due to the fact that I don’t have access to all the features of the application. Things like not being able to test my isp’s connection from the router. Was able to do that from my nighthawk router before upgrading to this system.

升级以后不能链接上路由器. 澳币路由每次升级后都不能链接远程链接上,每次都需要删除后重装,链接非常困难

Produit Wifi. De la nature même du produit Wifi, on ne exclure une personne qui a le mot de passe via son adresse Ip ou contôler les accès up sur notre routeur. Pour le prix payé, c’est peu réconfortant!

Orbi. This device keeps dropping the wifi. It’s junk!!

Little heavy during setup for required information. Other than that, the app is pretty intuitive and so far functions as intended.

Can’t control time unless you pay more! This use to be good until they got greedy. Circle use to be free

Almost 3 hours. Took me almost 3 hours to set it up. My previous set up was an Orbi as well and I assumed this one would work as easily. It did not. I started from scratch at least nine times probably more and the Orbi couldn't find itself. finally I made the phone call to get help and thought I would try one more time to connect and it finally worked. I didn't need to talk to anybody after all.

Does Netgear have any QA or Test engineers? Try testing this app for once.. Enabling or disabled internet access for a device disables it permanently until you reboot the damned router. App says router firmware is up to date: except it isn’t. Netgear’s website shows new firmware, but whooops, nope the app doesn’t. Shame about that big CVE that Orbi’s are vulnerable to… No useful error messages when trying to sync a new satellite. I could go on, because I sure as hell am not paying $80 per hour or whatever to try to use netgear’s support team.

Satisfait. Fonctionne bien, très rapide, facile à configurer.

The absolute worst!. Orbi software is either unbelievably slow, of flat-out doesn’t connect or work 99% of the time. Their routers may be powerful, but the software is so terrible, it makes their mesh hardware almost unusable. Problem is, after a couple of months, you have to pay for any level of support, so no help there either.

Frustrating Experience. I’ve had Orbi for several years now. At times it works well and consistent, other times it’s basically useless. At random I will lose connections to satellites and need to resent them, which is an annoying process. The speed at my router says 94mbs up and down yet in my device, in the same room with a clear view of the hub only gets 46mbs per second download and 74 upload. There are often spots in the house that are basically dead spots. I have 3 satellites but even standing close to the satellite doesn’t improve things. The range of this equipment is no where near what they suggest. After continuous issues I’m going to look at a replacement for this Wifi system. It simply is not consistent enough to provide acceptable wifi for my house.

A fun set up.. Easy to use.

Issues testing speed connection failed. Contacted Chat six chats six disconnects one hour of wasted time finally had to figure out on my own

Stoppes working, no support. After two years of working fine suddenly stop working no more support this is going to junk

Great concept. This is a really good concept. I would appreciate more advanced controls on the mesh network and better refresh capabilities

Expensive. You have to pay 300$ for one machine then 100$ per year to get little better. What a insane production

Issues with Armor security notifications!!. So in the last month or two I keep seeing in the app low security scores in Armor because it says I haven’t turned on security notifications! I haven’t changed anything and it’s driving me mad. Next day I’ll open the app and it says my score is high and it says I turned security notifications on…but I haven’t done a thing one way or the other. I emailed support and nada. Driving me crazy.

Limited. No HomeKit support. No ability to disable 2.4ghz 5ghz bands. Otherwise, few issues. Would be nice if they listened to their customers asking for such basic functionality.

Just wow. Super , we are over 60 meters away from the modem ,, i ran an RG45 cable underground to my house and we are distributing the signal all over. The property speed test is at 313. Actually with the ORBI 850 router and 3 satellites plus another line of cable 140 meters up in our small cottage in the mountain and the reception is just fantastic ,,, and no we are not in the states or canada but remotes in COSTA RICA PURA VIDA

Orbi and Hikvision cameras. Have networking errors

Orbi is good - app is terrible and never connects. Incredibly frustrating that the app can almost never “connect” to the orbi despite being on the same network. Really inconsistent

Orbi Router. Surprisingly! It’s extremely easy to setup even I don’t have any computer knowledge.

Great Connections throughout. Excellent device. Easy to install and the set up is breeze using Orbi app. It Covered all 3 floors of the house with no more “dead” spots. Works even when I am in the backyard. Have been using it for 3 years with no issues. Highly recommend it.

Remote access. Can’t set anywhere access, it tells me to check my internet connection when I set it to on and when I check if it is ON it is back to off…. Support is not helping.

Beware of the update. After several hours of using the system it crashed. It showed I had lots of bars but no device would connect. I reset everything and deleted the app and started over. Other reviews said it had to do with the firmware update. I’m hoping they’re correct. I’ll update review if it works after this.

Update has bricked my $200 orbi. Since updating the app, my orbi router has begun to randomly disconnect from wifi, and the satellite is completely unable to connect. A factory reset is able to connect to the orbi wifi but says the orbi itself cannot be found. Seems to have bricked itself. Due to the exorbitant price of the router, I am done using anything made by Netgear ever again. Orbi has had a LOT Of problems since I bought it a year ago, but this is beyond insane. It’s completely useless now. DONT BUY THESE

Not as expected given the $2500 CAD system. Very basic app with nowhere near as many features as eero that I had and speeds are mediocre at best. Invested in this to get better speeds but was very disappointed with both the device and the app features

So far so good 🤞🏻. Has only been installed for about four days, but it is working awesome! The best system we’ve ever had and I’ve been using Netgear for years, so kudos to Netgear for this one! Just hope it lasts longer than regular routers.

So much room for improvement. This app loses connectivity layout are horrible. I wish there was more ability to change settings and trigger updates. The app never ever picks up firmware updates

So far great!. Installed today. Super easy to configure everything. Love the traffic monitoring. The Orbis seem to cover my home much better than the stock modem.

Just ok. Interesting app at times, freezes and does nothing at other times. I picked up a great mesh network and used the app to set it up. Between my ISP issues and hardware setup it took 4 hours to get everything done, great speeds in the end - so I was happy. But then trying to do anything with the app it seems to just freeze, and it makes me wonder if it was the app freezing constantly and not the mesh hardware. Will update this review if I can get the app working well… or doing anything at all for that matter. Used the night hawk app successfully for my old network and liked it better.

Requires netgear account to use. And doesn’t have sign up or Sign in with Apple ID.

Orbi AC3000. Love it! Great speed same sped constant speed all around my house. I highly recommended.

January 11, 2023 update. I have had problems with the Orbi app and the bit defender armor button for just over two years now. This software is totally full of bugs and barely works. It turns off devices off the list and sometimes puts them back in and then turns them off again despite all my messages of this problem they continue?? customer service is terrible. They can’t solve any problems at all and they don’t understand English and the things they want you to do many times don’t have anything to do with the problem you’re reporting, regardless they don’t work. for me, the app is useless and it’s not accurate. The bitdefender armor button is totally full of bugs. even though it’s NETGEAR armor and Orby, do not communicate. Now the graph is missing in the last two updates that tells you how many malware attempts have been or tempted on your devices.

Reliable most of the time. Been pretty happy with the Orbi app primarily for remote monitoring and control of a wifi system. In the post few years there has only been one critical issue where I lost access to the routers and the app which affected all Orbi customers. The service team was able to resolve it within a few days. I like that support can be invoked directly from the app which is very convenient expect when all the users lost access. The support team is extremely helpful and they will screen share to solve any problems. Due to the wireless backhaul, the Orbi can provide a best in class bandwidth over large property area but requires significantly more tweaking and support calls than something like a Google wifi which is set up and forget (but not as fast).

Too many ads to purchase subscriptions. 1. There are too many ads to purchase subscriptions and no way to stop them! 2. The power wire should be aligned with the edge of the units to reduce their footprints! Who wants a skinny white wire sticking out of the units at a weird angle that keeps the units from being flat against shelf, wall or in a corner! 3. Netgear needs to be more helpful about where to locate these units! Up high vs down low, near other gear like the modem or far away to prevent interference! 4. Post some videos showing both placements and setting up the units! 5. Provide printed stickers to make keeping tract of all the serial numbers easier! 6. We should be able to buy a multiple unit kit at the best price and then return (unopened) units that we do not use/need for a refund! How are we supposed to know how many we need before we start installing units? Using square footage is not a good metric! 7. Very frustrating to get Netgear ads for newer units (!) right after installing the gear we just ordered, which leads to buyers remorse! 8. Netgear should provide a hotline for immediate assistance to those that just received their gear! Hold tikes are far too long! 9. Provide black power cords as an option to make them stick out less, the white cords look cheap and unprofessional!

Okay solution. I don’t know if this is due to being a new model (RBR750) or what, but the Orbi solution/app lacks many very basic features. Can’t schedule wifi availability, no parental controls on my particular model, no notification that a new device has joined the network, can’t set up profiles and assign devices (sort of a parental control feature. Seems a $400+ solution would have these feature. My older, cheaper devices did. I mean really, I can’t control the sites my kids are able to access, not even for a fee??? Wow. I do like the speed, future proofing (Wi-Fi 6), and stability has been good too. All a plus, but without parental controls and the ability to verify who/what is joining my network, I’m not sure I will keep this product.

Orbi hardware is great... App not so much.... I followed the Quick Start guide and used the iOS app to set up my Orbi RBK50. Everything seemed to work fine.. Firmware updated. Devices connected but no internet access. I spent an hour with Comcast and they said the problem is with the modem that I own. I called Arris and they said they would help me troubleshoot the modem but I first had to pay them $40. No thanks. I spent another hour or so searching forums and considered going through an exercise of MAC spoofing but concluded I didn’t have an extra 3 hours to do that as I’ve already spent 3 hours at this point. I then started a chat routine with Netgear support. She first suggested I get on the phone with Comcast. Nope! She then asked me to re-set up the Orbi using my Web Browser instead of the iOS app. Everything worked great! Even the app eventually worked! The moral of the story. Ignore the Quick Start guide and use the Web browser to set up your Orbi.

Can’t Separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Bands. I’ve been an avid Netgear supporter for years even advocating for other to buy their devices, but I spent nearly $300 only to find out that you can’t create separate SSIDs for the bands or even just have the ability to manually change which bands certain devices connect to at all. I’ll probably be returning the device and not buying anymore Netgear devices again. Edit: Update to Developers response - I think it’s great that the developers have decided that to take an approach that is not customizable while incredibly expensive leading the consumer to believe its a high end product. Having a default setting is one thing, that lack of ability to provide consumers a choice within advanced settings is poor design. Like I stated, I will no longer be purchasing Netgear products as this is the generic type of response that is received when anyone brings up this topic in the forums on Netgear which they have repeatedly being doing for over two years with no response from Netgear to resolve the issue.

Nice Improvement, Can't Wait to See What's Next. I was plesently surprised to see this update...I was beginning to get concerned that Netgear may have taken another path, but this update did not dissapoint. Really like the ability to turn individual devices on and off (I have kids) and the speedtest results are great as I feel like I'm getting a more accurate result (its better then when I test over WiFi). I'm rating 4 out of 5 as I still feel like some key functionality is missed for a premium device. Specifically, I want the ability to manage parental controls and the ability to set time limts by device. The web interface works, but it is not a streamlined process. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to see whats next.

New Orbi experience. Wow...I have a single floor condo, not large , 1400 sqf, but the layout was too difficult for a standalone router (WiFi/ router combo) from Xfinity to handle with reliability ( very weak signal in remote bedroom). So I purchased a new modem and a Eero mesh . I followed all setup as per instructions ( 3 unit mesh) and soon began to see erratic dropouts. Work fine for a while , then unexplained red lights indicating it is offline. I would have to reboot modem, restart the Eero units, and restart my printer. After 5 days, I had enough, returned it, and bought the Netgear ORBI Trivandrum WiFi (2 unit mesh) . Setup was excellent, easily followed, but upload and download speed in remote rooms excellent! Very happy with this unit so far. And my wife likes the white colored units... that was almost as important as the performance! Thankyou... excellent product

App no longer detects Router. Saw the other reviews and saw the developer response and a few faq sites for reference. The websites did not resolve anything. Router still cannot be found. We bought the parental controls because we wanted to shut our children’s internet off at a certain time for bed, I found out the issue after my son told me he played video games online all night with his friends. I’m sure Netgear is trying to CTA but ya’ll couldn’t send out an email? I’m an iOS developer and with this big of a mess up you need to be reassuring all your customers at once, not overwhelming your technical/customer support and waisting the time of your customers because of a bad release. Roll back your app version or roll back your Orbi firmware, because most of us are paying for you “service” that is currently not working at all and it’s affecting our lives. Someone is going to file a lawsuit.

Great so far. I purchased an Orbi Mesh AC3000 and CM1150V modem because I’m nerd and I wanted to save money on my Xfinity bill. I wanted to see how it would compare against my homemade mesh set up as well. It’s great so far. I really like the Bit Defender integration and Disney Circle. The app offers a lot information but I want and need more. I’d like to be able to assign devices to a family member or to the house in general. Then I would like to be able to simply turn off or on the family profile thereby controlling all devices assigned to that person. So if I assign a PS4, Wii and iPhone to my son, I want to just put his profile to sleep and all his devices are then blocked until I say. Make sense? I’m happy with it so far though.

You’re probably better off with anything else…. This is coming from someone who has done networking for the last 20+ years. The product attempts to automatically configure most things for you, so you have very little control if the defaults don’t fit you. My best guess at my issues with the product is that the radio power settings won’t adjust low enough for anything in my house to roam, so instead you get stuck to a poor connection and/or have spotty Internet, when the whole point was to make things easier. Oh, and don’t think you’re going to call support past the first 30 or so days, because they’ll want to charge you for support of the product, even if you’ve never called before. After a year of this, I’m about to put it back in a box and let someone else try it before my family fires me and finds a new IT guy.

Orbi Changed the Game for Speed!. After 13 years of having to put Ethernet Ofer Power adapters in our home constantly fighting dead spots I purchased an Orbi Mesh Network. We have a 5k square foot house in Chicago. Long and narrow. My wife and I both work at home and our offices are literally on polar opposite side and floors (hers third floor front room mine basement back room. For 13 years we’ve struggled to get WiFi coverage in the house. Regardless of where the ISP Router was placed we just never got consistent coverage. Well after purchasing the Orbi and putting one base unit in her office and a satellite in mine Holy Shnikies! 359Mbps download. As a professional Voice Actor working full time in a home Studio I upload major audio files all day, connect to Studios all over the world, and as such have a wired connection in the Studio with the Orbi. Believe it or not the Orbi network is faster. Unbelievably easy to install, it pretty much installs itself. Just do what it says. And with a 13 year old child in the house the new parental controls are awesome. Best WiFi Experience Ever.

Cannot remove an inactive device. An inactive orbi that was already returned to the store still shows up in remote management, as a disconnected device. When selecting the device, I was told it was offline. Apparently, there is no way to remove it from my account. Called netgear tech support, the lady could not be more unhelpful. She could not understand the issue. When finally understood it, she saw the inactive device in my account. But due to safety concerns, she said she had to escalate it before deleting it from my account. Come on, I was asking to remove access not gain access to an orbi system? What is the safety concern? Can you please just update the app to give customer an option to remove an orbi they no longer wish to remotely manage and no longer have physical access to?

Works great, but finicky. I really like this system... ONCE I got it set up. I had it running fine for two days, then decided I wanted to rename the Orbi base and then instant I did that, it got into a reboot loop (would immediately reboot as soon as it came back up.) Factory reset it and configured everything again and it’s fine now... but I’m leery of it doing this again when I want to change a setting or rename it. That said, my biggest gripe is the LAME selection of icons where you name your devices (and choose an icon to represent the kind of device it is) so you can see them easier in your list of connected devices to pause them, etc. There are no icons for “smart home” devices like light bulbs, plugs, etc... not even a generic “IOT device”! This pathetic list of icons is inexcusable when it would take like 10min for the app dude at Netgear to add 50 more.

Netgear listens to feedback. I’m updating my previous review from 1 to 4 stars. The latest app revision does away with the requirement to have a Netgear account. It has reverted to router credentials only. Thanks for listening. 1st the Orbi is both amazing and infuriating. When it works it’s the best home router hands down, but it tends to be unreliable and plagued by half baked firmware updates. Now they just updated the app. The first thing it asks for is a Netgear account. Not the router login. So now I can’t manage my Orbi without having a Netgear account. It’s so frustrating. I just want to go into the app and turn off my kids iPads. Why can’t I do that without a Netgear account? I could one version ago. Everything piles up. Eventually the Orbi is going on eBay. This is a follow up to Netgear’s canned response as to why it’s good to require the Netgear ID for app access. You’ve got to be kidding me. Your own post from the community page advises against using remote access to protect against the VPNFilter Malware. This right here is emblematic if the whole Netgear experience. Oh and BTW on the Genie app you’re off on the device type so when I set a device type on the Orbi, it is miss identified in the Genie app. Again an example of what to expect from the Netgear experience, just slightly off.

Poor setup instructions, otherwise convenient app. App instructions to setup new mesh WiFi routers did not result is proper pairing. Took approx. 1 hour to setup main router (I can see there was a firmware update the same day of setup, so maybe it was bad timing). After an additional 1.5 hours (each unsuccessful pairing in 2 minute intervals) of frustration trying to pair the satellites, I went to the internet to see if there were others with the same problem. Turns out the Orbi app skipped a crucial step in pairing the satellites: you must hit the pair button on the main router before hitting the pair button on a satellite. Would advise the devs to add that to their instructions. Otherwise the features are nice (even though they are much more paired down from our previous ASUS interface).

The Router is ok. But the app is buggy. There is problem with updating router firmware from the app. I have to use the computer to update it. There is problem with displaying network map. It's been a hit and miss. Sometimes it just show no devices attached to router or satellite. I have to back out and try it again. It doesn't displaying the wifi signal meter for satellite so that I know if the positions of my satellites is a good one. The RBR50 seems to give me the strongest Wi-Fi coverage over other mesh routers, but it the configuration and flexibility is less. It would be nice if I can manually assign my devices to connect to whichever nodes have the strongest wifi signal. Orbi connect most of my devices to the router with 2.4 instead of 5 GHz even thought I have satellite installed like 10 feet away.

DO NOT USE THE APP!. It started off really well. It set up the router fine, displayed all connected devices, showed speed test, etc. However, the first sign of trouble was that the speed test history kept being deleted. I thought that was a minor thing. It annoyed me but it didn’t make me hate the app. The big problem with the app is that it doesn’t allow your device to see the network. We are on Apple devices and when we would use the app we frequently got the message that we were not connected to our Wi-Fi network. So therefore, we could not use the app to do maintenance on the router. The only thing that seemed to work was deleting the app and logging in over the Internet. After an exhaustive online search, I found thousands of other people with the same issues. We are still very happy with our router and satellite but this app is trash.

Does not work can’t find router or satellites. App can’t find the satellite or router. Even having it as the only wifi connection on and connected to is. This app doesn’t have the right developer. It’s like netgear doesn’t know what they are doing and you can’t use your wifi unless you sign in through browser only. Update: they finally contacted me today to say they have fixed the problem. They must be joking bc I downloaded the newly updated app and the problem still exists. Maybe they should try the app before telling people they fixed it. Being connected to the Wi-Fi the app can’t find the router or satellites. I was excited to hear the app was updated and I’d be able to use the app. But no that doesn’t work either. Also another thing. In order to change any settings you have to reset the router because the orbilogin link doesn’t work and you can’t log into the router using the IP address either. Maybe that’s why they can’t fix the app.

Like the idea of the Orbi system. Continually have issues maintaining a connection between the iOS Orbi app and the base station. After a few min or navigating a within a few menus within the Orbi app, the app will attempt to “reconnect”. Sometimes it’s successful, other times it’s not. Seems to work fine when connecting via browser, but also quite slow. Figured out how to update the firmware in the two satellites (can not update f/w in base station) one required factory reboot. Connection between app and base station is better, but still hit or miss. Had this system for 3 years and it usually runs seamlessly, as of late it looks to be entering planned obsolescence. I know this is hard working hardware, wish they would last like the old net gear switches would! K, I’m done :)

Good Hardware but pathetic software. Netgear makes good hardware and I like it but their software to support the hardware is very pathetic. They dont tell you which feature will be discontinued. They try to push their paid products thru app so much and when you call their support, they will try to sell something rather than solving your problem. For every single problem, they suggest you to factory reset the router which takes hours to configure. It seems they dont know their own product. I am beyond frustrated when they interrupted my already setup Disney Circle and pushed their own parental control product. I have Disney Circle paid subscription which is now useless. I will try to avoid any Netgear products in future. Updated on 13-Feb-2024 The review is still the same. I wish I could give stars in negative. Same extremely poor quality software. They don’t know what they are doing and still push those pieces of junk to customers with high cost.

WiFi can no longer be scheduled on/off. I’m upgrading from a NightHawk R7000 to the Orbi RK50. The app seems to have a bunch of issues - it takes a long time to find the satellite, then once found and clicked on to get the details the WiFi shuts down. That happened every single time until I deleted the app, power cycled my iPhone, re-installed the app. Now it seems to work (what kind of weird bug is that caused by?). Coming from the R7000 I was used to being able to power off the WiFi at night - I don’t need my house full of electromagnetic radiation when the family sleeps. After spending over 2x for the Orbi I just discovered that feature is not available there. That’s not acceptable to me - so either Netgear delivers an updated firmware with this feature, or this system goes back and gets replaced with one from eero.

Disconnects devices at random. This is Orbi's v2 devices. V1 was an equally horrible experience but I read that Orbi fixed it's issues in v2 and I saw lots of good reviews. I have no clue how they aren't seeing what I'm seeing in both these Orbi systems versions. Sometimes Orbi does disconnect a device, but more frequently you see the end device still connected to the Orbi but not able to reach the internet (yet other devices located at the same distance or even further can). NetGear's Orbi really rudimentary support staff always claims that it is not their issue despite it affecting a wide number brands. You don't have any recourse other than rebooting, waiting and hoping that this expensive system chooses to let your computer, your home security device, your IoT devices back through to the internet. Don't buy! Avoid like the time-draining unreliable network that Orbi is. At best you are playing Russian roulette, but the symptoms may not show up before you can return the system.

Orbi is unreliable. I have had the Orbi RBR750 router for over a week and in this time I have had numerous problems that persist even after replacing the unit I initially received. The Orbi randomly stops broadcasting the network name and drops the internet connection for all connected devices several times daily. It sometimes also reboots itself for no reason at all and WiFi signal is lost while it is doing so. I have tried to work with netgear tech support, which has been difficult because there is no dedicated phone number for the RBR750 and I am bounced from agent to agent each time I call till I can get to the qualified expert. The new unit I installed yesterday failed after just 15 hours and technician has asked me to change one of the default settings, which he said is a bad setting. I don’t understand why the unit ships with bad default settings. If this does not fix the problem I will have no choice but to return this very expensive router and opt for a competing product.

Very buggy setup after crash. Spent almost 6 hours dealing with reset up of app and devices after iPhone XS kept on dropping conference calls... Zoom, WebEx, Teams etc. Installed system about 2 weeks ago and tried firmware update to no avail. Waited almost 3 hours for customer service and then told not supported because I bought 3 months ago - past 90 days... only got around to replacing Google WiFi about 2 weeks ago, because the speed was only modest when not close to satellite. Orbi has dramatically improved speed to over 400 Vs 25-50 on Google Wifi but frustration factor not worth it and super lousy tech support... don’t even bother. Going back to Costco

Does some things… but not others. Pros: you can get real time isp speeds no problem with history data collected on the fly. Orbi set up is stream lines and easy to use. Interface is modern and intuitive. Cons: a subscription is required to monitor devices on your network with security. Most companies allow this for free. In addition you will crash application every time you try to view connected devices via device manager and network map. Both key to security and troubleshooting your network. Non home router speeds and reliability is not captured at all in app. You have no way to know if it is in a optimal location. Summary: Some parts of the application is well done. In other cases there is no way in 2023 with a premium router set up should I have crashing issues that I have right now. It seems the software engineers are capable but not addressing such a visual surface level issue… I wonder why…. Owned for over a year!

SUPPORT: UPDATE THIS APP PLEASE. I love the Orbi system. But the app does a real disservice to the Orbi system experience. I just lost more than an hour of my time trying to find out why my daughter’s iPhone won’t connect or show up in the list of connected devices after being paused. The app’s features are very basic. I got rid of a Luma system, which had a far better app...that’s the only thing I miss about Luma. I was expecting a much better app with this system. I just recently upgraded to the RBK40 cable modem/router combo. This is an awesome system, but your app needs a lot of work. I deleted the app, reinstalled it, reset my daughter’s iPhone, forgot the network, re/entered the password, and it’s still not showing up. Now her phone is locked out of our home WiFi including the guest network. What gives? For the love of everything sacred, Netgear... revamp the app and give the Orbi system and your customers the app we deserve.

App is junk requires internet access to login to router. This app and Netgear is total junk. They are clearly stealing my information without my consent. First of all just to turn on a router requires me to sign up for an account with them which I don’t like but I accept. But then I realized that even to log into the router itself to debug issues or to change settings it is required to be connected to the Internet and access your account. That is completely ridiculous. Most of the time I want to log into the router is to figure out when there’s a problem with my Internet access. I can’t even do that if I don’t have Internet access I should be able to log into the router as long as my local Wi-Fi connection is solid. The fact that they require an Internet connection to do anything clearly means they are stealing and sharing my information with other parties

So far……. We’ve had our Orbi for over a year now. I can confidently say that it has a been a huge asset to us, more so now than ever with CV-19 still out there, virtual schooling, and teleworking now adding strain. We’ve rarely ever had any issues that I couldn’t handle or take care of in a matter of minutes. I can’t say much, if anything at all, about their customer services because I haven’t had to even get to that point. I hope that our system’s performance continues as we are huge fans of how awesome it works. The new question now is do I try to upgrade to Netgear’s newest wifi version (portable/plug-in capable) or just ride this one til the wheels fall off? Either way, it works great!

Awesome, at first. It got worse with updates.. All I can say is I’ve bought 3 sets (router+2 satellites) and the first one for my father seems to run fine. Then I bought a set for me. I even recommended it to friends and coworkers. All my range issues were resolved. Then after a while the Armor software glitches and couldn’t be reset. I had a lousy tech support experience, gave up and returned it for a replacement at the store with the awesome return policy. The replacement has been working great, until now- the app won’t allow me to login. It simply says “Something went wrong. Try again.” How helpful. Trying again just makes it happen again and again. After going through more steps with tech support than a broadway musical, the problem remains. Oh and guess what, when you can’t sign into your account, setup and tech support are pure hell to get. They use your signin as the gatekeeper to everything. It’s like losing your passport ID while in a foreign country. Total nightmare when it doesn’t work. I’ve updated my support ticket and told them I’d they can’t fix this- it’s going back again, but this time I’ll choose a competitor. Sad way to lose a customer. When it all worked- I was happy. However if you don’t have reliability- you have nothing. Whether it’s the app or the device itself doesn’t really matter.

Very disappointed. I bought the Orbi router and associated software just over a year ago. Recently, Netgear pushed hard on a 3rd party security update that was part of the installation. I paid the $40 annual subscription for the update, installed it but kept getting consistent errors that the installation couldn’t complete. When I tried to contact Netgear, I found out ALL of their support options (phone, chat and text) required a separate annual subscription. So now I’ve paid $40 for an update recommended by Netgear that won’t install and my only option is to pay them more so they can help fix a crappy product. Fortunately there are many other options that perform as well and offer better service.

Good range extension. Needed something to extend my Wi-Fi range in our yard. I have a lot of fun “working” in our garden which is in the back of our yard. Using the internet router provided by our supplier the signal to our backyard would often times break down. With this new Orbi system, which includes 2 satellites, I can now listen to anything using wifi with no disruptions. My son purchased this system for us after identifying what was our problem. He plans on buying the same system for his house to alleviate the break downs he has been experiencing. I highly recommend this system if you have been experiencing a problem with your wifi range.

UI/UX needs serious work. Idk where to even start how bad the UX is on this app. Giving 3 stars is too generous. The mesh network is solid no major complaints. One satellite does disconnect more often than I like but it’s just the location nothing I can’t do about it. Back to the topic at hand. The app has banners and toasts that cover up key buttons that user can’t click. Example. The app tries to connect to router when opening. If for whatever reason it cannot it displays the banner on the bottom of the screen and you can’t dismiss it unless you login to the router via anywhere connect. But in order for you to do that you need to login to netgear. The banner covers up the submit button when you try to login. When you try to 2FA, etc. Frustrating to say the least. Every time there is an update to the app I lose the speed test history, what’s the point?

The routers are rock solid. Wish the app had more features though.. The Orbi mesh system is rock solid, particularly with a lot of devices. I’ve noticed that in the home automation community, people with an Orbi system seem to have fewer problems with devices not responding. If I were rating the routers, I’d give them a solid 5 stars. But I'm rating the app. The app is simple and easy to use, but it doesn’t have access to all the Orbi features. You have to hit the device’s configuration page with a browser to see everything you can do. I’ve been hoping that over time the app would get more features, but alas it looks like it’s not going to happen. I guess they are more focused on support for their newer models.

Customer Service is the worst. Orbi is a great product yet if you have a problem that needs resolution there are no Pro’s to help. I have spent hours on hold only to get to first level tech who wasted my time turning it on and off and then putting me back in the queue for another interminable hold that was not picked up at all. I paid extra for Technical Pro support for a year to stop this and was not given a different number to call . The only different number is for business and that number the Pro’s won’t help you and they send one back to the queue which is the first level tech that only knows how to take down your information and shut the orbi down and up again , no troubleshooting to ascertain the problem. Paying extra for dedicated support is only a waste of money. It’s so sad because they a great product above the rest, but without support it’s not worth it.

Not what is advertised. Compared to all of the other routers I’ve had over the last 30 years this one probably has to be the worst where it comes to configuration. 75% of the settings that you would expect to be able to change you cannot, either through the app or through the web interface. Some settings you cannot even access through the web interface and have to be performed through the app. The netgear armor system is a nightmare, whatever you do do not under any circumstances turn it on, otherwise you lose access to a lot of sites including Apple Updates and a lot of first-tier sites which the system just arbitrarily blocks for no reason, on top of that, if it will give you the option to open a ticket to have it checked then you have to submit a ticket to bitdefender and wait 72 hours for them to add the site to the allowed list. I cannot be the only person in the world and looking at the netgear forums I am definitely not the only person in the world that has asked for the iOS updates to be unblocked, yet every time an Apple device in my house needs updates I have to put in a ticket to have it unblocked. I’ve tried turning off the bitdefender armor system and it makes no difference. Also if you do use it it will tank your Internet speeds. I have a gigabit connection and I’m lucky to get above 200mb even at 5 o’clock in the morning when nobody else in the world is connected.

App doesn’t show all my devices…. Dragging this down to 2 stars as the app is getting WORSE. It not only doesn’t show all my devices, but also after every reboot, shows RANDOM devices as OFFLINE, when they clearly are online. Luckily I’m not using parental controls, as this would cause a lot of issues with it working properly. After googling this issue, it’s been going on for years. No idea why Netgear is so lax on this issue. I’ve also been trying eero as well and their app is light years better than the Orbi app. Their app shows all devices properly and shows them online/offline perfectly. ——————— Downing this to 3 stars. The connected device list in the app doesn’t show all my connected devices. I have a Synology server connected and while I can see the device in the WEB interface just fine, it doesn’t appear anywhere in the device list on the app. This needs to be fixed. As the device list between the app and web page should be IDENTICAL . Also, the Bitdefender Armor shows that I have security notifications off one day, then back on, then off again. It also doesn’t recognize Inhave the Bitdefender iOS app loaded on either my iPhone or iPad. While I think this is more a Bitdefender issue(their armor iOS app hasn’t been updated in almost a YEAR), Netgear should be doing more to keep Bitdefender on the ball.

Impressed. I have the 2 unit Orbi, one router and one “satellite” that was purchased at Costco. Each unit has 4 internal antennas. I suppose it’s really acting like a simple router/booster set up. However, and this is a big however, the boost I have downstairs is significant. I just switched to a provider that promised 500 up and 500 down. On my hardwired PC I am getting what was promised. According to speed test I’m getting 250 down and 195 up in my living room downstairs on my mobile devises, about 10 feet from the satellite unit. That’s pretty good. One interesting side note, when I run the Orbi app speed test it says I’m getting 500 up and down on my mobile devise. It does not agree with the “Speed Test” results. Either way, I’m very happy with its performance.

Works great but have needed to reset often. Hi. I do like this product but I have had to reset it often by unplugging many devices and waiting to plug back in and that gets annoying over time. I’ve had the router for about 1.5 years and have had to do this at least a half for a dozen times. I don’t know why and it is annoying. I have a lot of devices connected, (about 40-50) and I wish there was an easier way. I have tried to just reset modem and router but that doesn’t work. I always need to unplug many devices also. I also cannot connect to the router locally often and idk why. It is annoying and for how much I paid, this should work better. The wifi and speed works great when it does work though.

OK but was expecting more…. After using Google Mesh and other solutions I decided to switch to Orbi. Previous mesh solutions we barely covering our 2-floor apartment and I wanted better visibility over the devices on my network. Bought the baby-Orbi 353 and after a couple of days of tweaking locations and configuration I was able to reach an OK coverage. Main routes delivers the full 300 Mbps of my connection but the satellite upstairs (only 5-6 meters away with an open stairwell in between) maxes out at 40 Mbps. BTW: was only able to get that by manually setting a different 2.4 GHz channel. The automated channel setting maxed out at 10 Mbps. The app is ok but here too I’m seeing gaps that are surprising for a major brand like NETGEAR. - Firmware updates failed consistent. Read somewhere that I should try the web interface. That worked - App dashboard only ever shows only one satellite connected - although the map and the device list show both are connected. Web interface also shows the correct dashboard. - As many complained, NETGEAR does not include any feedback in which device is current using data. Frankly 🤯 at this level. At this point I’m torn - should I double down and upgrade to stronger Orbi model or just go ASUS…

The abrupt loos of connection. I’ve used several routers over the years, Cisco, linksys, netgear. Being in a two-story house with a basement I new I needed a high caliber router and mesh network seemed like a no-brainer. The installation was a breeze and it included the base and a satellite. I’ve connected few wired devices and the remaining 18+ where all wireless. Very quickly I’ve experienced fluctuations in speeds. Over the time few firmware updates seemed to stabilize speed issues. However, one thing that has been happening is the abrupt internet connection drops. The device shows strong WiFi signal yet it struggles to load google page, eventually timing out with no internet connection message. What’s interesting is that the connection comes back right after it and everything loads just fine. To isolate my internet provider issues, I was able to confirm overall internet connectivity trough cable modem during Orbi connection drop. This issue has been now hunting me for over a year. I’m very disappointed and surprised that such premium retail product is in the market and not being addressed by netgear. Btw, the connection issue is one of the most user reported problem and can be found on Reddit and google search. Also the range in my 3800 sqft house is spotty with base and satellite apart by 60 feet; drywall interior walls and wooden floors :(

Orbi Is Spot On!. I’ll keep this review short and sweet. If you are looking for the raw speed that you pay for each month, and you are tired of the old reboot and wish your WiFi comes back up, you need Orbi. This WiFi system is hands down the best that I ever owned. It’s very reliable and true. I’ve had my system now for over six months and I haven’t had to reboot it once. My high speed internet is truly high speed. I’m paying for 200 Mbps but consistently reading 215 on the download! The features are getting better, but as one other person mentioned the parental controls could be better. Over all I give it a 5 Star because it delivers on the speed and reliability that I look for in a high end WiFi system!

Intermittently requires whole system reboot because of dropped connections. I find that my Orbi system intermittently has connectivity issues. About every 3-6 months it will spontaneously disconnect from my wireless devices and also from the satellites. I have to unplug and reboot the entire system to get the router and the satellites to reconnect. And the the Orbi app says everything is fine and there are no firmware updates. It is extremely disruptive to me because I also have a saltwater aquarium Wi-Fi monitoring system that the Orbi system disconnects from and requires manual reconnection. If I am on vacation and the Orbi system disconnects then it is dangerous for my saltwater aquarium and equipment. I manually reboot the entire Orbi system and there are no firmware updates so what is the solution here? It seems to me that I just need to buy another system from a different company. Overall I am unhappy with the performance of the Orbi mesh Wi-Fi system and it’s connectivity issues. It is also very expensive at nearly $1000 and all I see is more adds and emails asking me to spend more money on security and parental control programs that should be offered with a $1000 mesh Wi-Fi system. I also expect better performance and network reliability from a brand new $1000 mesh Wi-Fi 6 system. I would not recommend this product to other people to buy.

Hellcat Speed for WiFi. The Orbi WiFi 6 Smart Home system is like having a “Hellcat” engine in all my wireless devices. I had yet to experience the power of 500mpbs internet service until I purchase this system. My UHD streaming service would always give me fits when watching a live sports, movies or gaming. When having quest over and multiples of devices were accessing my WiFi at times it was embarrassing. Now I can have parties outside and everyone can use the WiFi with Hellcat speed. The satellite units are appealing and fit right in to my homes decor and no ugly antennas sticking out. Very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend the Orbi Smart Home WiFi 6 system.

ORBI is well worth the price!. I’ve have an ORBI device for several years now and I absolutely love it. The best thing about the ORBI is that there is no limit to the number of devices you can attach to the router (ORBI) and the speed DOES NOT slow down. The cost is initially high but it pays for itself in lack of aggravation over time. The newer ORBIs are ok but this one (ORBI RBS50) is the one that I’m had for several years. When I tried the upgraded devices, my system basically shut down. When I went back to the RBS50 and upgraded the firmware…all is well. You do have to learn how to upgrade the firmware bc it’s not super user friendly but it’s worth it. Especially if you have any I.T. knowledge. Buy! You won’t regret it!

I have used many MFG apps. This is the best.. I have used most of the Netgear apps (better than others) with their various routers and have found them to be fairly decent in general. This Orbi app with the mesh system I have found particularly impressive it actually has tools I will use within the app rather than just being an app that sits on my devices “just in case “. The only negative I can find is the Speedtest does not correlate with online speed test that I typically use. It gives me the same speed next to the router as it does using satellites 400 feet away. In reality my online signal has denigrated 50 to 60% at 400 feet. BTW; 400 feet away from the main router is an unheard of distance for WiFi. The mesh systems are game changers.

Extremely Delighted!. Very reliable, and effective satellite. I used to have wired connection and rigged cabling for the 2nd floor by routing from the modem on the 1st floor to the attic level and used an ethernet switch to distribute to each room. If only this system was available at that time, it’d have saved me the hassle. When I learned of this product with it’s tri-mesh and satellite - I just wished it’d simplify it. And it did! Satellite sits on the attic wirelessly from the main router on the 1st floor, which distributes wired signal to each room. I tested the internet speed and it is always reliable as if It was wired beside the main router. So far, I am so glad to have purchased it. I am also able to monitor connected devices and usage traffic plus the Circle app for content monitoring is a plus.

Could use improvement. I have used Orbis for at least five years in my home. I use the RBR840 with 2 satellites and have been using this model for a year and three months so far. It is the fine points about their shortcomings that make me constantly wonder if there is something better. To summarize: The app does not support landscape mode, meaning if you mostly use your iPad in a folio like a Smart Keyboard, you have to take the iPad out of it like I am doing now. Maddening. In Device Listing, while the top line name of the Device is correct, it will randomly assign incorrect manufacturer information from other Devices you have. This is in spite of multiple power offs and reboots (I am unwilling to go through the pain of a factory reset more than the once I have, with almost 40 Devices). Traffic Management stats do not show monthly totals for anything other than the last full month. The real effect of this is, if you don't think to check your usage on the last day of the month, you cannot see whether you are over or under for your usage, and certainly no trending - not even for two months. Overall I do recommend the product, but it could easily be made a BETTER product.

Finally, the whole house, connected. My home’s construction includes multiple brick walls between my modem and the most distant rooms upstairs at the far side of the house. For years I have tried countless products from countless manufacturers in a vain attempt to get strong, clean and fast WiFi signals. The Orbi was connected and set up in minutes. The signal was strong in the most remote room, with just two satellite units, despite passing through three double thick brick walls and other sheet rock walls. And, upstairs to boot. The speed is decidedly improved. The mobile app is nice. The information available when connecting to the modem data pages is extensive and welcome. The price is reasonable also. Now I need to find a place to recycle all of the old junk.

New update 9/16 review. Thank you for updating the look of the app. In the new profile view could you please allow a minimized view and allow me to reorder the list? That would be very helpful and faster for me too. Also, a feature that would help is to set a device or few as high demand. My wife is a teacher and here laptop fails to connect often. Either the WiFi or her vpn is the issue (not a techie so idk). It would be nice when she needs the bandwidth to give her greater connection over the other items. I am going to try to setup profiles to pause some smart devices to give her an attempt of better connection. This is not ideal but what other options do I have, really what other options do I have? I have her hard wired in the main room of the house (with all our kiddos) when it’s really an issue - she does NOT like that.
