A navigation software should be a very reliable. This one is not. Online traffic and camera information suddenly stops workings and this piece of software is good for nothing! As far I can see in the forums, it happens quite a lot. I had this problem twice during the 2 months of usage. For the last ten years I spent a lot of money for the TomTom software and devices. Because it used to be "Apple" of navigation. Unfortunately, now it's not.
The new app is not an improved experience, it's a changed business model aiming to extract more revenue from TomTom users. TomTom sold their original (expensive!) app on the basis that I could use it on all my devices in accordance with Apple's App Store rules. I bought that app on that basis. After "upgrading" to the new app, I'm informed that I can only use my TomTom account on one device at a time (i.e. : I can only use this app on one device at a time). I can still install the app on all of my devices, but usage is limited to one iPhone. Google Maps now offers offline maps too (with free traffic). It doesn't cost a cent and you can download and use it on all of your devices. TomTom should merely have discontinued the original app when they realized it had no good business model. As a customer I feel like they've portrayed the new app as a "new version" of the old app that will benefit me where it's actually an entirely different product. For avoidance of doubt: TomTom has discontinued their old app (just like Microsoft had discontinued Windows XP). Continue using the old app until it no longer works with newer versions of iOS. The old app is what you've paid for, and it's the app that TomTom has decided to drop. The new app is NOT a replacement so don't install it thinking that it is!
When I purchased TomTom USA I was told it would be with a lifetime of free updates. Now they getting rid of it and you have to pay for a yearly subscription. Not happy. I don't care if it comes with 3 free years. I want what was promised.
If you have T-Mobile and live in the USA, this current version (1.8) cannot access traffic data on the network. You get traffic only when on wifi. I have contacted customer support and although they are very nice people, they have no fix for this issue. If traffic data is important to you, stay away until the next update.
I bought the first version of TomTom and stayed with them through all their growing pains. TomTom worked hard to produce a quality product and it became my Go To when I was on the road, about 250 days a year. I'm not sure what prompted the switch to TomTom Go Mobile but to say it's a disappointment would be an understatement. While the old interface contained a number of search options, copied address, navigate to photo, GPS coordinates, POI's near me or in city, this new UI has nothing but a search bar with no way to filter or tune it to help find the desired result. It went from a fully functioning navigation system to an Etch-a-Sketch, hardly more than cute toy to play with if you're bored sitting in the passenger seat. It's certainly not the original TomTom app. Now I'm forced to look for a new navigation app when I was VERY happy with the one I've used for years. What a waste!
I love this app. I recently used it when I was in Europe, rather than eat all my data I was able to download the maps of the countries I was going to and be able to navigate around towns flawlessly without having to use data. I'm excited to see how the app works at home in Chicago, as Waze and Google Maps have issues navigating between the buildings downtown.
I'm still using the older app with the traffic. Once that loses support in September, I will use this app until my subscription runs out, then I'll just buy a Garmin and hope they keep their word on a life long purchase like tom-tom once did. Why is that the android version gives you more color options, and apple version only give you sky blue?
I have been using this in the D.C. Metro and it the maps have not been updated to handle the HOV on I-66 during peak hours (entire interstate in the beltway is HOV) nor does it track other traffic patter roads. Ridiculous to pay $50 every three years when free GPS apps do track HOV correctly, plus traffic, and turn by turn voice.
This GO version keeps you very busy, can't search contacts, can't locate city center to add as a stop. It also doesn't give you enough free milage to even try it out. Deleted it from my iPhone 7, and will continue to use my original version on my iPhone 4, works just fine. Any subscription service should be better than any free service, TomTom GO doesn't fulfill this requirement.
Take a good app, and make it worse - wish I could give it 1/2 a Star. Indeed unusable. Why??? The new version is still not ready for prime time! If it were possible, I'd give it half a star. I am a long-time TomTom user - and subscriber - on the iPhone. If only Apple Maps allowed one to download maps. It's based on the TomTom data anyway. The new TomTom user interface is far less easily comprehended than the old version. That's a big problem when driving. Too fancy for it's own good. Sometimes simpler is better. Also ... I cannot select even my Home address, let alone my daughter's or any one else's address as a destination. The new TomTom defaults to one Contact address, in my experience. Yet each of my >2000 has multiple addresses: home, work, other, etc. Thus I still cannot figure out how to select my own home address as Home. It defaults to my work address 250 miles away. How do I create a list of recurrent destinations? The old TomTom version user interface is FAR better!
I bought TomTom Europe and Greece. I was absolutely satisfied with this apps. It's not cheap but really good. Now you are trying to make me use TomTom Go mobile, but I don't like this app. And I want my money back, it you don't make updates from September.
I purchased the original Tomtom which is the best navigation app, later on they pulled it from the App Store to sell this new one and this new one isn't life time free, they want to keep stealing money monthly or yearly! I want my money back for the original tomtom because I spent 100€ to buy Europe version
I've paid for the expensive original app. Should not have to pay again. This is a rip off.
Keep using old TomTom US and Canada!!!!!!!!!!!
They will stop providing map updates to the original app in September to force everyone into this subscription based app. The original was the most expensive app I've ever purchased. I won't buy any more of Tom Toms apps or products.
No longer Lifetime maps and fooled user to upgrade now to a yearly subscription base that ranges from $20 to $60 they even had the Nerve to block it from your purchase history so that you won't download the old version, but you can google the apk and get the link to the apps store and purchase it but won't get charge since you already had purchase it. Hope TomTom goes Bankrupt!!!
I purchased the original Tom Tom app, then they pull it and want to charge me for the 'new' app. Tried to use the free 3 years; however, when trying to load it, it required payment. So I ended up having to purchase it last Fall. I spent $60 on the original....now I pay $20/year or $40/ 3 years. As for the app.....I love it. Just not happy about the bait and switch technique.
Don't trust. Will at there own discretion change the terms.
I payed for tom tom USA and Canada but it won't let me get the tom tom go even tho the USA and Canada is no long on App Store can someone help
