Stellar game for all ages. I admit, I have pretty much taken over my daughter's present. Don't get me wrong, this is perfect for kids (mine's 6 and worked it easily) with its intuitive, clean, and simple design. However, it is also perfect for adults by offering a variety of levels. Yes, the word/photo associations can get abstract and do include a variety of cultures in the images, but I play the higher levels like a Wheel of Fortune game. The photo gives me a "category" reference point and then I guess letters (vowels first!) if I don't have an immediate guess for the word. It's a great way for me to teach my daughter common phonics patterns as we play together. Fun all around.

App closes after level is complete. We are trying to supplement our daughter’s work in kindergarten and the app closes unexpectedly when she completes levels in ‘Adventures’. Very disappointing.

Not working. Please ,please fix! My son got this for Christmas and we can not get this app to work. It won’t open or anything! When we tap on the icon to open , the screen just goes black and then goes back to main screen. I have a very upset boy and no idea how to fix this. Please help!

Error. Our child is trying to play the shell level. It keeps saying, “Please way, downloading”. Please fix!

Getting better. I was really excited about this app, but as a teacher, I really wish they had chosen to use lower case letters instead of upper case letters. We spend a long time teaching beginning readers that upper case letters are only used for special words. I appreciate the ability to make custom games. The interface on the iPad is finicky tho. I switched to creating games on my laptop where it’s much easier to do the editing. I can then download the finished games to the iPad. Each time the app is updated, any games I’ve downloaded from the server disappear and I have to re-download them. Not a huge deal. Customer support is very quick to respond if you have questions.

Tiles????. I have the ‘brilliant kit’ and it doesn’t come with the letter tiles. Where can I purchase just the letter tiles?

Unfinished. I love ❤️ it, but I cannot get to the desert 🌵 world.

App Issue, Please Help. When playing Osmo Tangram the app continuously directs us to move our pieces to within the boundary. When we move them the app does not self correct, but stays frozen on the screen. We have not had this issue in the past. Please help. Thank you

Keeps crashing. It’s a shame, we were excited for this product. It seems like a great concept but the software keeps crashing. Tried to delete and reinstall multiple times to no avail. We’d happily give this app a higher rating if we could get it to run stable

You. Fun game but took 2 months to get downloaded

Inappropriate concepts for a seven year old.. This is a hard and challenging game. If you bought Osmo to help you child with reading, you’ll only find them discouraged. How exactly does yoga result in the word “zen”? How is a seven year old supposed to know what that is? I’m afraid this game has a pedagogic agenda that I’m not sure I agree with. Additionally, using a brown child vacuuming in the photo for the word “domestic” seems strangely racist.

Great idea, could be even better for those with special needs. I am using Osmo apps for my son with special needs (although my typical kids like it too). One area for improvement is to offer more options at the lower end of the functional scale. In words, a level that involves building levels of Dolch sight words would be incredible. Also, allowing parents to load their own images and words, such as family member names, etc. would be a huge plus.

October 2015 Update. I can't find any other way to contact the developer about this, so here goes. I have been trying to update this app for 2+ days and the update freezes and will not finish updating. In the meantime it is draining my battery because it is constantly working trying to update. I tried deleting the app altogether, but it won't allow me to. It was a fun app for my grandchildren before, but now it is unplayable.

Great game. We really like this game, but we haven't played it in a while. I tried today. The camera was on, but nothing appeared when the app opened- just a white screen. Not even the instructions appeared.

Frustrating. My son is learning to read so I only play the learning words level. The problem with it is that it goes through about 12 words and then just keeps repeating the same 12 words over and over. How does the "learning words" level not use all the letters? C, E, H, F, G, T, W, B and D were the only letters used. What about the other letters? Are they not important enough to be in this app? Shouldn't ALL the letters be used? Why not have more than a handful of words you teach kids? If this is supposed to have many words, clearly there is a problem and it needs to be fixed. No update has ever fixed this problem so I have very little hope that this app will ever be worth anything.

Not Well Thought Out. There is almost no time at all given to the child to allow them to figure out the letter before the letter is then forcibly given to them. My 6 year old becomes extremely frustrated by the fact that the program is not allowing him to figure it out before placing the letter in front of him. I don’t understand why there isn’t a slide setting for a slower or faster setting (or no timer), depending on child’s level, because even that would be helpful... but as is, it’s more damaging than helpful. With the fish math game there is always a lot of time allowed to the child, but with this one, it’s just very intense for a child who is just trying to learn and who is then constantly being interrupted by having the letter being thrown at them, instead of allowing them time to figure it out. It’s defeating and my son now would rather do anything else than play that “game”.

Great concept. I was expecting a matching letters level and was initially a little disappointed. However, I see the developer response to this issue so we are excited to try it.

English only, please, when English is chosen.. We have been unable remove the non-English words that pop in about 5% of the time during spelling games. For beginner spellers to be expected to know non-English words is counter productive and it is certainly not ‘chic’. I had to Google search the words and meanings. Even my French speaking granny and Spanish speaking auntie didn’t understand the nonsense words being used. It is annoying! Especially when double checking the settings, it is clear that the only choice was for English that we were using.

Keeps crashing. So we recently brought an OSMO for our 3 yr old . The app was working fine. Our little one just got a hang of it and now it keeps crashing.

Bad. I want to give this zero stars but that just means I’m not reading it. Anyways so this app is bad because it’s literally like how are you supposed to find the letters in a mountain of little piles and when it’s like owl versus you or like one of those versus ones, it’s literally so fast and they should give you more time to actually find the letter because, overall you know the letter, but does the app really give you time to find the latter. No and that also goes for a detective agency but it doesn’t really time you. That is all. Thanks for reading this.🙏🙏🙏

Excellent. My 4year daughter loves this. Different levels for all age groups. Playing and learning at same time. Use imagination to guess the word then try to spell it. Excellent educational game

Disappointed. Very disappointed there isn’t a simple word game where all the letters of the word are showing and my child can match all the letters. Seems that should be the 4 year old option. Not something with words like Lizard! And bucket!

Fun for everyone. I mainly got Osmo to play with friends and family's kids. Words instantly worked for them, and for me. I also played with other adults and we just couldn't stop. The words and images choices are well calibrated to keep the game challenging, and the letter recognition is perfect. There is a great idea with a great execution there. Now the game isn't perfect, the solo mode isn't exactly exciting. It's the same as the multiplayer mode without the competition. But overall, this is a really fun game, with great potential for more updates, especially since they introduced image libraries.

In French, but fixed. The app opens in French but the tech support responded right away and it let me change it a couple pages in. It would be a even better app if my stinky husband didn't beat me. 😊

Disappointing, not deep enough. This app is a bit of a disappointment. My 3 year old has virtually mastered the app after just a handful of plays, and it's not because she's a genius or anything, it just could use a much larger vocabulary.

Good game. More levels! Just like I said for numbers words needs more levels to! Overall the concept is great 👍🏿 and I really like the toy just more levels please!

Poorly thought out game. Rather than picking words that are aligned to the age group selected, like short easy words for 4 year olds, it uses words too big for them to learn to spell but makes it easy by only requiring them to guess just the first letter. Lazy on the developers part. Worst of all, no way to turn off the clues that the character gives. Doesn't allow my kid to try to figure out the letter. While he's thinking, it'll just tell him what the letter is. If he makes one wrong guess, it'll just tell him what the letter is. GIVE THE KID A LITTLE TIME TO TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT!

Kids need to know sight words to play. I wish this started with the alphabet to teach toddlers the capital and lower case letters. Then sight words. My daughter struggled with this at 5 as she was just learning sight words. Now she doesn’t care to play it. I wish I waited to introduce her to it until she knew her sight words. Great concept just misses the mark for the target audience.

Third grade teacher. My students love this app. Even my students that traditionally struggle with spelling enjoy this game. I like the interaction while students work on spelling and vocabulary skills.

Not developed for American audience. Great potential. Very tough photo/word associations- the photo of a pagoda on a lake and correct answer was 'garden'. Tough for solo play until the photos are updated. Maybe geo specific games for kids in different parts of the world?? Could be pretty awesome to learn other cultures :)

Osmo ROCKS. These games are incredible! I love how Osmo can see if you've done it right - it makes for instantaneous positive feedback. Because of that, I think this has the potential to be an especially innovative learning tool for early readers. I suggest more learning games and a set of lowercase letters to expand options.

Not working. Please fix. It’s Christmas and the app will not open.

Too difficult for a kid. The app is well designed and has great potential however the pictures are vague (often the central object is not the word). Even we as parents were challenged to guess the words- so for a kid ( 7- 10 years old it is very difficult. Please improve this app!

Doesn’t support iPhones. But still allows you to dl the app.

Bug. We enjoy the other Osmo games, however this one has a bug. It closes out after 1-2 minutes. I tried to delete and reinstall but it still happens

Clues??!. I just got the suite for my grand daughter (7yr) and tried word. We love to play word games in our family, but your photo clues (though beautiful pictures) are really very difficult and obtuse. A beautiful fall photo of a farm in rolling hills and this is the clue for CLOUD which is maybe the top 8th of the pic. How is this going to help a 2nd grader learn to spell. Come on!! I love the product the drawing and the puzzles, but please review this!!

Oh my!!. This game is freakin' great!! I bought the Osmo for my 9 year old son, but he hasn't gotten a chance to play this game yet! My wife and I have been battling with each other and haven't given him a chance to play (I know, bad parents. Lol). Our 15 year old even got in on the action, too. The knock (a small one) is that someone can push the other player's pieces out of the way. There should be some sort of divider to keep each on their respective side. We're a very very competitive family and I was almost short one son because he kept "accidentally" knocking my pieces out of the way before they registered. Just sayin'. I can't wait until our next party to break this out! We'll keep it good, but I could see "drinking game" potential with this. Here's an idea: "Couples Edition" with different pictures. 😜 Nonetheless, too much fun to be called a "kids game."

main menu problem. Nothing came out on the menu screen is there a bug ？

Vocabulary Help!!. I LOVE how I can add lists using my own words! I am a Homeschool parent and this is a perfect tool to use in getting extra help with spelling words without my son realizing he is doing school!!! Really LOVE this concept!

One of many games we have. Upgrade I pad now none of the 5 games we have will work. Tech support said we are just very small firm. We don’t have resources to figure it out. Give me break.

Super Cool. I really like this and as a early elementary teacher am excited by it. I had an glitch early on when I made some of my own Word lists. After rebooting my i pad it was all fixed up. Super great program my students are loving this!

Buggy and frustrating. Can actually be a setback to learning. This app and its issues are a large part of the reason why we sent back Osmo the day after receiving it. The app double counts letters and sounds a buzzer (as in "wrong!") if your child doesn't move the letter tile quickly enough. Also, the app was recognizing the letters incorrectly and again giving a wrong buzzer even when my son chose the correct letter (example: recognizing a b as a p.) This caused frustration and made him feel he didn't know how to sound out a word that he was, in fact, spelling correctly. The idea of Osmo is a good one but it seems they were in too much of a rush to get it out in time for the holidays and didn't have some serious kinks worked out.

Kids will enjoy but some frustrations. Got this yesterday. Much too frustrating (but read my addendum below). First of all be careful how you hold the letters: a "D" held the wrong way will be recognized as a "C" and an "A" can be misread as a "V". You get an error charged against you as a result. Guessing how the picture and the word relate is frustrating too...how does a picture of a palm tree relate to the correct answer "leaf"? Palm trees have fronds. Kids will need lots of help with this....if for nothing else than to avoid being misled: at first I attempted to use all the letters to spell out the answer: "eggs". But while I was looking for a second "g" the game told me I was correct with only "egs" on the table. So be sure your kids understand that they are not to spell out the word with tiles. Box design seems to be very clever and rich looking until you try to put 52 letters back in the tray...frustrating!! This needs more engineering...13 squares with four letters in each square would be easier (there are two of each letter). "LIFT" rather than "PULL" to open the box. Magnetic closure is clever. I do have to write an addendum here and up the rating. Our 11-year-old and 8-year-old grandkids are here today because of a snow day and are thoroughly enjoying the Words game and the Tangram game. The games must be played on a table or flat surface. I was using it on the arm of the couch yesterday and it just was difficult to use.

Great customer service. I also accidentally had my words game set to French and then couldn't switch it back to English. Customer service responded to my email within minutes and I was able to reinstall the software to fix the problem. They also assured me that a fixed version of the app will soon be released to allow for switching languages without reinstalling. The game itself is very fun. Great for my 5 and 8 year olds to practice their letter sounds and spelling! And the harder game is fun for older ages too.

Gave up on it. My little girl really seemed to be enjoying this app until her progress was stopped. She was unable to move forward because the app needs to download albums. The download never starts and we are stuck at "Please Wait.... Downloading album". Waste of money

Great for helping. My daughter is learning words faster then with out me helping so this app is a good app

WOW!. Not only does this function as a super fun kids learn to spell game (which was my expectation) BUT an added bonus was how the two player game quickly turns into a quite tricky "hangman" style game! Keeps the adults entertained & guessing just as much as the kids!! :))

App does not work, bought words kit for nothing!. I saw lost reviews were reporting the same issue started April, and still nothing get changed. Very disappointed. Don’t waste your money on this product.

Osmo word. Hopeless if you can't change the language

Great app..... This great. Really fun. My early readers are really enjoying this. What would make it better: 1. The app recognising free, hand written text, not just the tiles. I'm a bit disappointed that this is not active yet. Hoping it is in development for this or a new app. 2. I love the extra library function, but I can't load extra libraries for the junior game...crazy. My kids have been using the app and have gone through all the words a number of times. Can you please consider updating to enable this?

Word after word. You can be a total genius agents osmo characters. You can learn words. The levels go on and on and on!!!!!

Need lowercase and adjustable reflector. As a teacher of 4 to 6 year olds, I see a lot of potential in this app, however, the lack of a lowercase option limits it significantly for use in lower primary school. Also, in a 1 to 1 iPad class with children, protective cases are a must. The need for adjustability in both the base and reflector is a must if you want to "sell it" to more schools. Our school has 2 sets for a 600 student school - add those options and I could guarantee you we would be buying at least 6 to meet teacher demand.

I like this game. I like how you can verse osmo characters and it gives me someone to play it with since no-one ever wants to play it with me and I definitely recommend this game and pizza co, tangram, masterpiece and newton. Keep making awesome games!!!

Not really multilingual. This Words for Osmo app does not really support multiple languages. First it forces you to change the entire iPad's language, then even after selecting French, only the interface of the App changed to French. All the words that we needed to guess were always in English. Plus, we think that it should be possible to switch language within the App without affecting the iPad's language.

It helps little kids to learn. This game helped my son to recognizes the simple words and now he’s reading!

Lower case. This app is really great but I would love to have lower case letters for my students. In French, we don’t use capital letters to write words, even in kindergarden.

French no more. Very practical game for language learning. It was available in French before, but not anymore...Result my daughter who is learning to read can no longer have access to it.

App keeps shutting down. Cannot get past the second stage of the game because the app keeps crashing. Have hard restarted the iPad, uninstalled and reinstalled the app and cannot get it to work.

Bugs. Fun, entertaining, love it........only if it did not have bugs, it blanks out and does not show the picture, only the letter bubbles. Hope that gets fixed soon!

Doesn't make sense!. The pictures do NOT emphasize the actual word!! This is way too hard for a second grade class!! Heck, I can barely figure them out after letting it put a couple letters for me. The pictures are very nice though, but not what the game is about. It's obvious why they include this game with the starter set, no one would ever buy it!!! 😔

Very Disappointed. Since the last update on Feb. 1, the app freezes up on the loading page. Also my Tangram app doesn't work. I have deleted the app and reinstalled it 3 times, restarted the IPAD and nothing. Help!!!
