Way to basic. The free version is so extremely basic my 6yr old was able to master the entire section. Sorry, passing on this one.

Great app. It is a great app It helped to learn many things about photos

Falls short. I was hoping for a little more than what I received. There are two sections, Basics and Lighting. In the Basics section there are 5 lessons two of which you need to download, in the Lighting section there are 4 lessons all of which must be downloaded. I have been trying for three days to download any of these with no success so what I have is very limited. The lessons I can access have a nice interactive example but beyond that the app is very light and lacks much needed info for photography beginners. Better off grabbing a good E book. There are very good ones in the App Store which are detailed easy to understand and even have videos. Spend your money there.

Finally, a hands-on teaching app!!!. I learn best by applying and this app doesn't disappoint! I can tell they had their customers in mine when they were creating it. Not only can you learn and apply studio techniques, they showed love by sharing location techniques as well. Not all of us can afford to do studio work, like I would love to do. However, I started with location photography, and now can take it to many creative levels! Pure dopeness goes out to The Great Photo App!

EXCELLENT APP!!!!!!. I've read quite a bit in an attempt to learn about aperture, shutter speed, etc. and taking photos. This app is great and has made learning and understanding so much easier. The tasks at the end of each section are most helpful, they give you the opportunity to actually use what you just read. I'm very much looking forward to the next update. Wow. Wow for $0.99 I really didn't expect much out of this app. This app is really packed with great lessons that really anyone can follow. It's so much fun when you can be hands on and not just read or watch a video. This app really helps a lot. Who needs photography class when you buy a $0.99 app that will help you as much as a high dollar online class or etc.!? I was going to school for photography, but I have learned way more in this app then I did online. It makes it easy to learn when I can also be hands on with each lesson. This is a great app for beginners.

Now I understand. I’ve been messing with cameras for many years and this is the best way I’ve seen to show the effects of lenses and lighting. And it’s a lot of fun.

Great Lessons for Photographers, Novice & Experienced. This app is a fantastic way to learn just how to use your camera properly. I've learned more from this app than I did in photography class. Why? Because you can actually SEE for yourself how the settings on your camera can change the composition of a photo, and this app will teach you how to create a well-composed shot (based on settings, that is! But the photos of the models in the app are also very inspirational for future shoots). This is a brilliant app and I suggest it to anyone who is interested in learning the basics of photography. You can't take a great photo unless you know the ins & outs of your equipment.

Well worth it for novices!. This is a compact, logically-arranged teaching app that is engaging and informative. It never feels dry and has unique ways to let you show what you've learned. It wastes no time and zeroes in on what is must-know information. At the same time, it does it so well that I can refer to it quickly as a reminder and the knowledge is now rooted deeply enough that I'm helping friends take better pictures on my own.

A great app for aspiring photographers; it also gives aspiring videographers lessons on capturing the perfect image. I suggest that you buy the only two sections of the app that have an associated cost. One covers location lighting and the other, portrait photography. $6.98 is a more than generous bargain for a informative app. App development costs money, and I’d love to see the developer continue to updating this app; perhaps even creating a second and more advanced app.

Wow wow wow !!!!. This app is incredibly useful and so easy to use. There was only 1 in app purchase for like $0.99 and it was SO worth it in every way! Extremely useful in teaching someone how to use the camera settings and understand them better and even more useful in learning how light works which is the most important element in photography! I 100% recommend this app and the in app purchases!!!

I'm Impressed!!!. I've had this app for awhile and just recently started using it. I'm surprised how many lessons are available for free and had no problem downloading them. I've mostly been using my iphone camera and the automatic features on my SLR. I just finished the course on Light Modifiers and didn't know how much I didn't know on the subject. It was great to be able to see and compare the 25 examples.

Uprising to Success!. The App is awesome! I myself do photography and find this app useful and fun!! The layout of the app is fun and different then other apps!! As of right now the App is limited in content but with the work they are currently outing in, it will soon will provide an abundant amount of info for those who are wanting to improve their photographic skills! Even though it's not loaded with TONS on info YET it is still an awesome app that SHOULD be downloaded!!! It's beginning to excel to provide awesome advice and tips!!

Developer, please explain how…. Developer, at the moment eight of this app’s ten in-app purchase items are listed as being (temporarily) free — but it’s unclear how to actually “buy” them — so, it would be very helpful if you post a how-to explanation. Also, the user guide/tutorial and the app’s “Settings” option all seem to be MIA. If you can explain and/or fix these problem(s) please let me know and I’ll be happy to update and likely upgrade my review... Thanks!

BEST. By far the most informative app/site I have every had/seen! Simple knowledge, and easy to understand, even for those who know nothing about photography. After years of practice, mentoring under a professional and well practiced photographer, and knowing so much about photography, I still refer to this app because I love it so very much. Would love to see a section on metering, which setting is best in which situation, and the guided practices in order to see the differences.

Super Well Done App!!!. This app is GREAT!!! I'm a photographer & I find this app perfect as a refresher. I like that this app shows real time examples of what you're reading/settings they're trying to teach you. I find it perfect for my learning style & extremely easy to use. I've used other "teaching" apps before & they have the right text, not having live examples makes it harder to register. So glad I found it! Great job!!!

You get too little for the price you pay. The app is nice. But you need to make a bunch of in-app purchases to learn anything meaningful.

Phenomenal. Cleverly and creatively uses a series of representative photos to convey important principals of photography (depth-of-field, aperture, different light & composition techniques, a range of typical lenses, etc.). For example, you can tap anywhere on a succession of photos to see exactly how different lenses can capture subjects. This can really help identify what lens you want to buy next or, similarly, show you the actual impact different types of popular studio and flash lighting can have on your composition. Where can you find such a practical demonstration of different popular lighting options?! No books or DVDs on photography that I have seen can compete with this approach to teaching. I think this is app is best suited to beginners and intermediates (who were largely self-taught), imho. A truly helpful app and a genuine pleasure to use. It downloads each section when required and the size of most downloads will all but require WiFi.

Fantastic way to learn about photography.. I've trained in cinematography at USC's Grad film program, so I'm familiar with much of what's in this app. That said, I wish I had something like this at the beginning. I love the interactive reference sections where you can essentially light a virtual room. I love how you can put the concepts into practice within the app rather than waiting until you have an SLR and lights with you. Great app. I look forward to additional lessons.

The Freaking Awesome Great Photo App!. I don't usually go all out and make reviews but for this app I literally feel compelled to. Photography is one of my most favorite hobbies and I can never stop learning more and more about it no matter how much I may already know. This app is informative, and real classy as well. Love it. Can't wait to see what else the creators have in store! Stsrbucks was doin' something right by advertising this as a pick of the week! Try it out!👍

Beautifully implemented application a little short on content. These developers truly understand how to teach. Explanations in lessons are clear and concise and follow-up exercises to ensure that the presented concepts are understood are beautifully designed and are instructive themselves. Truly a masterpiece of programming and it warrants being the model others use for any other instructional apps, only if there was more content! It says in the app that there is more to come, and I sure hope they are able to pull it off. If so a 5 star rating from me is in their future.

Excellence..st. There's really no a word to categorize this app. It's simply excellent. Really well made and easy to use. The tutorials provide clear and helpful guidance as to how to improve your knowledge on basic camera settings and most importantly it solves your concerns in regards of focal length and lens distortion. There's no other better app of this category out there period. Whoever rated this app with a one star has demonstrated to know nothing of photography. Amazing work and the updates keep on getting better. Worth every single penny believe me!

Initial app offers some usable content for beginners, but.... ...the cost of further lessons is a bit ridiculous. So, for an enthusiast, to dump cash on top of cash in the hopes of getting something of value is not worth it. There are plenty of FREE online resources with the same basic learning IMHO. For some, ...they might find spending what?...about an additional 17 dollars to get any usable content in a cutsy app is worth it. For me, Id rather look for guidance on any one of the photography websites, that offer

Great learning tool. Just have to say this app is excellent. Being able to play with the aperture, iso and shutter speed together to see how they affect your photo is awesome. The studio lighting section is also awesome. This app is a must for any beginning dslr user.

Nice visual learning tool. As an educator this app supplies me with a keen visual and interactive example of many of the aspects of photography I need to explain to my clients. I rarely give a 5 star rating but this is one of those occasions.

Great for people interested in photography. It's a well made app. Very informative and all the basics are in there. The interactive aspect of the app is a great help and pretty much gives a better explanation on the topic. As an amateur photographer, the app has taught me new things, specially on lighting. Good... BUT. A pretty good app although take in mind, it doesn't let you use your own photos

Great in principle .... The lens information that the app claims as incorrect when you select it, is actually correct. Also the rule of thirds comes up as incorrect and is very clearly framed by the user as a ‘rule of thirds’ composition. The principles of photography are here, however it would be very confusing to be scoring ‘incorrect’ for the student when the answers clearly are correct. Otherwise a well presented learning tool.

Not worth $5.99. Yeah the app is well laid out with good examples. But this information is not worth the price tag. Plus, there’s in app purchases for the lighting topics. Wen through the whole in 10mins and was left feeling jibbed.

An Everyman app. Clear concise, covers the basics incredibly well, even the most novice user will have no problems understanding and mastering the art of taking a good photo.

Content does not load, confusing interface. Very frustrating: content doesn't load after repeated attempts (quitting app, going to other sections and back, restoring purchases).

Awesome. Finally a 'just right' app for photo. Many of the apps on here get way too clinical and technical quickly. This app is gorgeous and modern and set up at the right pace. I work in education and this would be a must have for a photo class.

Loads of fun!. Great little teaching app! If you're a novice photographer, this is a lovely little interactive teaching app! It has lots of tips and tricks, and does a bit of hands on testing to ensure you've understood how to apply what you've learned.

Good design and instruction. This app is for someone looking to shore up their basic knowledge about aperture, focal length, lighting, etc. The mini-lessons are fun to use and well-designed. I would like to see more about composition, though.

The name speaks for itself, it's a great app. I recommend this app if you are looking to learn about photography. As a visual learner I found this app to make things easy to understand with its interface. The app is very interactive to the point that if you don't understand the lessons, then you probably gave up. A great app is a understatement. I'm very impressed.

Why it's not worth buying. You know, it's great by the interactions. It shows you how to take a clean shot and everything, but it doesn't let you TAKE PICTURES or upload any or anything. It's just an interactive BOOK. I had my hopes up, definitely not worth your dollar unless you have a camera and cool light boxes.

One of the best apps I have downloaded in quite a while. Even though I am a moderately experienced photographer, I found this app to be very informative and a good review. I would recommend it to anyone learning photography. One thing to note, though, the name should be changed. When I first saw "The Great Photo App" I assumed that it was a photo processing app. I nearly overlooked it!

Never stop learning. Lesson after lesson photography becomes more understandable and with all this world have to offer photography is extremely interesting, the better I can capture this world the easier it is to share with others. To me that sums up why I love this app.

This is a great app. This app is great because of the interactive content. You get to read about a photography concept then you get to try it out. The only thing that could make it better would be a few more interactive examples.

Best photo lessons. If you want an example of how apps will replace textbooks this app is one of it. For beginners especially interactivity afforded by this app unlike a static text book would explain to you 1000x faster and more clearly. Even for pros who need a brush up or an easier time explaining to your juniors this is it.

Great Educational Photo App!!. This app is limited in content, but the developers and designers seem to be working on building their lessons and content database! This app is fairly young in it's life and is just getting started, but I believe it has much potential to become one of the greatest photography apps to exist in the App Store!!! Keep up the good work!

I got this app from the Starbucks app of the week, and I enjoy it, but a little more explaining of just all the parts in here would be great, plus stuff in here to be added being leading lines, rule of thirds, etc. and the update? It says the last time this was updated was April, and that an update should come soon- so when?

Worthless Junk App. Don't try to justify this app saying it is helpful. If you took any photography class, it isn't. I downloaded this app thinking it would take better photos with my apple product. It is just stupid lessons that I learned long ago. Totally false advertising calling the a camera app. I would give it zero stars, but Apple doesn't let me. A waste of time and space.

It really helps you for home photo shoot. I am impressed with the detail of setup and lightning etc. the app programmed in a great way for reading and practice. Well done!

BEST ONE out there. I downloaded a few apps to learn my new SLR, and out of the $85 I spent on apps/books, this was the best. I don't have patience for a long video tutorial... I need cards with the important basic facts and some quizzes. I'm learning so much while just flipping through them at work. Very very user friendly and great layout. This guy is clearly artistic. I love this app!

Love!. Adore this app. Can't wait for the update. It may sway me to go purchase an iTunes card. However, the app won't allow me to do any in app purchases. :/ maybe an update will fix that

A+ & great for beginners. I absolutely give an A++ to this app it taught me everything I had been taught in a years worth of digital photography class in high school. It's a good and accurate digital book of accurate tips and tricks 11/10 would reccomend. I would also reccomend purchasing upgrades because those are super helpful as well. Amazing and clear visual examples for visual learners!! BEGINNERS GET THIS APP

Great for reference. I'm a photography student in high school and I love this app! Most the stuff I already learned, but it gave a fantastic visual teaching. I used the light lesson to help see what lighting I wanted on a photoshoot today :D gives great pointers/tips and also it's funny

Great start. This app is an amazing start for the people who are interested in photography. It has easy and beautifully made tutorials around the basics of photography. I strongly recommend this app.

Filmmaker. I can't believe how much I learned from this app in as little time as did. After each lesson I went to my camera and easily applied everything from the lesson. Worth every penny!

Wonderfully done. This app is very traffic. Explaining the basics of the photography in a simple, concise way. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to get familiar with the basic concepts of photography.

Insanely good. Great tutorials that explain really advanced stuff quickly and easily. I don't often buy IAP but I'm thinking about it for this app since it's so good and the extra tutorials (studio lighting) could be helpful.

GREAT!. This app has helped more than anything I have found. I have a great vision, but lacked some of the lighting skills. It helped tremendously! Just need info on how to transfer my pics onto iMovie after green screen shots...hint, hint! That would be awesome. Apple (so called geniuses) have yet to help. Thanks! You get 5+ stars from me!

Good app for those who can't take pics. The app is educational but mainly for those who haven't used SLRs in the past. While I browsed through it, others I know were impressed with what it was teaching them. It provides plenty of interactive play for those interested in learning.

Hands down the best. Finally!!! Someone created an app that teaches the fundamentals of lighting, exposure and more. This has to be the single most favorite app of all time. Totally worth the price. Please add lessons on composition, and creative lighting.

BEST PHOTOGRAPHY APP ON THE MARKET!!. Awesome! App best on the market, great for any level photographer. And it is a very well executed app and high quality. And at the end of the app you get a very handy lighting tool where you can adjust a soft box, reflector and beauty dish in 1000+ combinations to see what type of light you will get before you actually go set the lights up in real life. I give it 5 stars! I love it. Best photo app I've used!

Great app for lighting techniques!. Love this app. Wish they add more quickly and that it didn't take us as much space in my iPad. But otherwise it's clever and useful!

Impressed!. Not only is this app packed with information and examples, it is also well developed and wonderfully interactive. I love playing with the different demos to see what effects things like light source, lens and distance may have on an image. This app is worth buying! Love it and I can't wait for more lessons!!!

Poor caption. There was very little time you about the app. I got it off the Starbucks card thinking it was safe picture app to edit and take pictures. But it just tells you certain things like how to focus your camera and stuff like that. I know how to focus my camera. And if I tried I could figure out how to find the perfect lighting. I wanted a picture app to take pictures not an information app.

Awesome app if you don't know anything. I don't know anything about taking photos, even though I own a dslr type camera, can't wait to start playing with the different settings on it now.
