Won’t open in iOS9. App seems to be out of support, as it was last updated in 2013. When I tried to run it in iOS 9 I got only a startup splash screen then an apparent crash. The app’s splash screen still shows in Application Switcher, but that’s it… Same issue reported by another user recently. Too bad - it looked like a lot of fun.

Good game!. I had this game in 2013, and now it has been restored and completely unlocked by the game club. Thank you, but it seems that the fever of the game is a little big, and my mobile phone will get hot. I hope it can be further optimized. Thank you again for bringing such a wonderful game

Impossible to restore previous purchases. If you choose “I’ve already bought this game “ option there is a banner appearing. It asks if your internet connection active. And, surprise, there is no option to confirm it. Only “I’ll check “ option. So you have internet but you can’t restore your purchase. Well done.

Does not run on iOS 9. Just purchased but cannot play it; running the app only crashes and immediately sends you back to the home screen. Reading other reviews shows that this game is incompatible with iOS 9. Wait to purchase until an update (which hasn't happened in a while) is done.

Game is back!. Update: Gameclub did restore my purchase. I’m still taking one star off, because I still have to see adds in a once great premium game that I purchased. However, I am grateful this game has been resurrected on the App Store after all these years. Original: I received a developer response to a previous 1 star review after the game disappeared from the App Store years ago saying the game was added to Gameclub and back on the App Store. I was excited to finally get to play again and finish. Downloaded, tried to restore purchase, Gameclub clubbed me over the head with a denial saying my account had not purchased. Sooooo... I went to purchase history and found my receipt from 2015, resent it to my email, screenshot and sent to developer. Will change review if purchase restored.

The game is good but. The game is good but you have to go on a subscription so you could just play multiplayer like why just why that’s why PlayStation 4 in and playing on planes on PlayStation 4 and other devices is much better because you there’s no subscription I need to sign up to .

IOS 9 isn't loading. I came back to play one of my favorite strategy games after not touching it at all. When I try to play the game it loads for a second and Crashes. The last update the game got happened 2 years ago and I hope they fix this bug

Best strategy game on iOS !. Don't believe those guys' complaint , their device is out of date...I am now playing happily on my 5s and pad4, thank you developers! 1 suggestion : the old film effect, those vertical black lines should be more obvious, thick lines seems better : )

Does not work on iOS 9. However, it does let you purchase and download and watch it crash. Checked the tech specs and it states it works on iPad Pro, which I have. It does not say anything about not working on iOS 9, and even if it did, Apple should not make it available if it is KNOWN that it will not work, but WILL charge you. This needs a fix from BOTH Apple AND the developer.

AVOID - Doesn't work on iOS 9. I just purchased this game and it will not load. It hits the load screen and then it exits out. It looks like it's running in the background and when you go back to it it does the same thing...exits out. I'm assuming that's because it requires an update so that it is able to run on iOS 9 I see the last update being sometime in December 2013 (after already having purchased)...so that doesn't bode well... :/ Happy to change my review once I can play the game.

Does not function in newest iOS. I've purchased this game and it does not open. Apparently this is a known issue, and has been for several weeks. However, there is no scheduled fix and if you shell out money to buy it, it will not work and your money will not be refunded. Consider yourself warned.

Deep Strategy with Incredible AI. On the default difficulty the AI is devious, and immensly satisfying to beat. Victory often means the last ditch suicide squad who, against all odds, break through the lines and assassinate the enemy general. Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat by sheer audacity, it is the sort of strategy gold this game is made of.

Arise, chicken. Chicken, arise!. Edit: wow! Skulls of the Shogun has risen from the ashes! My old review is below, but the developers came through! Way to go! Awesome game, great gameplay, good replay, or at least it was when it actually worked. Skulls has been broken since iOS 9. The devs said they are working on a patch, but it's been months. It's been so long that iOS 9 has been patched twice before they got a fix out. 17bit's tech support forums are a wasteland of unanswered pleads for help to fix the title since iOS 9, and their Twitter has one vague post about a fix being in the works someday... Really sad way for a great game to go.

Eating skulls for breakfast!. I love the style, the strategy, and the story of this game. No IAPs make this game a great investment of your time and attention. If you like strategy games, this is definitely an insta-download.

Think this is my favorite iPad game so far!. Wicked super fun. Played some levels twice just because. Art direction is dynamite. Play balance kept making me feel smarter than I really am. Wish all games did that.

Need to pay to play. What happened? The game was originally able to be purchased forever, now you need to subscribe to some service to actually play. Total waste of time, I would absolutely be willing to just BUY the game normally. I don’t care about playing your other games from said service, I just want to play this one only. Edit: I’ve scrolled through the other negative comments, and I am seriously unimpressed. Instead of responding to them, whoever owns the game now just sends an automatic response pleading you to join their “service.” Overall, extremely shady business that will not have my money, and they shouldn’t have yours either. Doing business with people who value their customers so little is a liability.

Great at everything!. Really fun storyline. Cool gameplay. The levels get harder and harder as you play, not that "hit the button and win the game". It takes strategy! Really fun!! Spent the last 10 hours playing it.

Pay to play. Purchased this game many years ago and now they want a subscription to play the game. I understand that the game was brought back from the grave as there were many iOS versions that this game wasn’t working for but to charge a subscription for it seems a bit greedy. Would have rather they release a newer, updated version that costs the same as the original price rather than a subscription.

Disappointed Skulls was pulled from the app store. I bought and enjoyed Skulls of the Shogun on my iphone 4 (which still runs) and was disappointed when the developer pulled it from the app store and i can’t even download it from prior purchases. Now they bring it back and want me to pay for it again via a subscription. Not happy with this business practice.

iOS 9 crash. UPDATE: Yaaaaaaaaaassssss queen!!!! 🙌🏼 Finally got an update. Great game. This is a great game that I've loved for some time. But.... It crashes on iOS 9 on both my iPhone and iPad Air. After deleting it and redownloading the game multiple times it has continued to crash. It was a waste of $5. Updates needed.

Subscription. I had previously paid for this game years back for around $5 (4.99, I think) and now it’s asking I pay for a subscription for the features again? I had thoroughly enjoyed this game back then and I refuse to pay more for it. Update: Got my premium back and ads removed. Service was quick and effective. So very pleased!

Great Game but still needs work. This is ridiculous! I wrote the review below at least 2 months ago and you still haven't fixed Game Center Achievements. The banner telling me I've completed an achievement pops up in the game but doesn't show up in Game Center. Game Center achievements are still NOT WORKING! Please fix ASAP and I will change my rating back to 5 stars. The game isn't lagging as much as before so that's a plus. It still freezes some. Please fix GC A's. They're coming up when I earn an achievement but they aren't registering with Game Center.

One time purchase?. Great game but I’ve never been a fan of membership especially on mobile where I don’t play many games so I was wondering if this game is ever going to be released with a price so I can get the full game without paying for a membership and then losing the game once I stop paying.

Skull me!!!!!. Great classic turn based action!!! I'm not sure what game other people are playing but this game runs flawless on iPhone 5s 64gb. The artwork and colors are beautiful and vivid!!! They really make this game shine on the new A7 chip. The game play is awesome and not sure what the other reviewer was doing but the tutorial is pretty clear as you play the first level the game slowly explains the movement and actions. If your a fan of turn based strategy games don't miss out on this title. CLOUD SUPPORT PLEASE!!! I recently went from a jailbroken iPhone 4 32gb and had problems running a lot of new games and them crashing. I don't understand how people rate these titles so low.... I mean you can't run a PS4 game on a PSX. Do a little research before spending your $$$ on a game you don't have the hardware to play.

Retina mini on iOS 7.x. After much deliberation, I deleted this title. The monotony caught up to me between 75 to 80 percent completion. I suffered not one crash during gameplay, and feel that everything was executed well. In the end, it just wasn't quite compelling enough to draw me back after a little time away. This pains me greatly, as I like to finish things. To leave a bad review would be to punish a developer who really did nothing wrong here.

Great game. I've been looking for a really fun game for my ipad. If you're not a gamer, give this one a couple hours to get the hang. Really a lot of fun. Don't understand the multi player tho.

Premier iOS Strategy Game. Costs more than I usually spend on iOS games, but is an absolute blast for gamers who love turn based strategy games. Deceptively deep gameplay

Lovely game, won't load. **Update** I received a developer response after all these years and they said the game was now available on Game Club. Game Club costs $4.99 a month, but they’re providing a free month. I tried to find the game and when I finally did it won’t load and says there’s no content. But I also will not be paying 4.99 a month to play a game I already paid for years ago. If you’re looking for a similar game just get Badland Brawl or Skullgirls. They’re free and they aren’t the exact same, but they’re close enough. So thank you to the developers that spent a lot of time and hard work on making such a great game initially. You guys are awesome for that, but it’s had it’s run with this fan. Good luck with everything else you’re probably working on now. :) **Original Review** I absolutely adored this game when it worked but with IOS 9 it does not. I hope they fix this soon and I will gladly change this to a five star rating.

Not a fan of the artwork, and the gameplay feels mushy. I love tun based fighting games, but this one left me uninterested after 5 minutes. Too many things flying across the game and the instructions are unclear. Looks like it may have an interesting story...but I'm not going. To stick around to find out what that is. Wish I could get my mine back.

DO NOT BUY For iOS 9!. It's a great game, pick it up for PS4, Xbox 360, or PC, but it will not work for iOS 9. It's not fair to new purchasers to buy a broken game that hasn't been updated in over 2 years. If you have no plans to fix this bug, take the game down from the App Store and save people their money and frustration.

Crashes Instantly. I've read this may be an iOS9+ compatibility issue, but I just bought the game and it crashes about one second after opening, 100% of the time. DO NOT BUY until there is a fix, which I doubt considering how old the game is, so i probably just lost my money for nothing.

Don't waste money if you are using iOS 9. This app will not run on iOS 9. The developer is aware of this and acknowledged on their website that there is an issue over a month ago, but still no update. The game crashes within seconds of starting the app. They are happy to take your money, though, and good luck getting a refund ...

Slowdowns!. Extremely addictive game, but sometimes it will just start slowing down like crazy. Didn't happen until the levels with the salamander monks, but now it's happening constantly!

Excellent Strategy Title. Great game, works great on my old iPhone 4. A little bit of slowdown occurs on huge maps, but it is tolerable. My only complaint is with gameplay. It would be nice if the low chance to miss were replaced with a percentage reduction to damage. Random chance blows, especially in strategic game design. Other than that, the game has held my interest for a long time now.

Ridiculously disappointing. I find it extremely stupid that I have to pay to play multiplayer on this game whenever I used to play this game for free on the Xbox 360 back in the day it like every now is to earn a quick pay check like I loved this game as a kid but it stupid that I have to pay $5 a month just to play this game

Doesn't work on the latest iOS. Unfortunately this app no longer works after the latest iOS update. It crashes immediately after loading. The app support link takes you to the developers forum that was last updated more than a year ago, so this app may no longer be active supported.

Great game worth the money. The plot is great and the game is very addicting also this is how good the game is I got it to days ago and play a total of 16 hours. Just wish it was a little harder.

This game shows true craftmenship. I followed this game since one of their first articles in game informer a couple of years ago. I had high hopes for it as they continued with development. I am extremely pleased that it has surpassed my expectations. Skulls is a well crafted, fun, strategy game that plays great solo and Multi. I look forward to new updates, maps, and levels. Please make it easier to find your friends to play against them. I just had to remember the exact spelling of my friends name to invite him.

Great game!. Love this game! Regardless of the few bugs I've run into (errors on sending a turn, skipped turns, and odd opponent movement), I've had a lot of fun playing this game! Continued polish from the Dev and additional content should keep me engaged for a while, assuming I keep finding opponents to play against!

IOS update failure. Don't get until they update. But that's not likely considering they haven't updated since 2013 Edit update since 2013: Game has been updated and purchase has been restored. Pretty fun.

Awesome fun. I picked this up during a freebie weekend and it sat on my iPad for a month unplayed. Last week I got an iPhone 5s and installed this game to give it a whirl. It rocks. I love eating them skulls. Great AI too

Promising, but deeply flawed. Unworkable UI issues: way too much ambiguous and confusing screen cruft, selecting units in close proximity near impossible, menus are a mess. Poor game balance: more time spent buffing than actual combat, counterintuitive unit strength. Bottom line: looks great, tons of personality and humor, but gameplay is awful. The quest for a decent Advance Wars type game on iOS continues...

Great turn based strategy game. I really enjoy this turn based strategy game. High replay value to try to get all the skulls. Definitely satisfied with this purchase

Fantastic game. I seriously cannot praise this game enough. It was one of my favorite games of 2013 so much so that, even though I've already played it to completion on Steam, I had to buy it again for iOS just to show my support. Plus it's probably the best strategy RPG on the App Store. Who wouldn't want it on the go? The game runs flawlessly on my iPad Air, and my iPhone 5S. Do yourselves a favor and pick this game up. My only real complaint is I wish it had cloud saves so I could transfer my saves across iOS devices. It's such a minor complaint though that I can't dock them for it.

Just let us pay once and enjoy the game, I’m not interested in a “hand picked library” of *phone games* at $5 a month. Almost perfect.. This is everything that I want from a game! Challenging, beautiful, interesting narrative and just a lot of fun. Lots of replayability too. My only complaint is that the battlefield can get very cramped, making giving the right order difficult. Even with the confirm order function, if you try to click something close to what you accidentally selected, it will take it as a double click and auto-confirm. Tap to move should be an option, as scrolling the screen outside the movement circle is made difficult within the current system.

Had me hooked, great game. Really enjoyed this on recommendation from a friend. Decent pace, funny, good strategy, not overly difficult, made me think. Highly recommended.

A great strategy game for everyone.. Skulls of Shogun is a surprisingly great game of 2013 for me. With the rise in popularity of Turn Based Strategy (TBS) games, It can be difficult for Skulls of Shogun to stood out among the other quality TBS games such as XCOM, Civilization V, and so on. However, with Skulls of Shogun's witty writing and solid, fun mechanics, it manage to carve up a unique personality among other TBS. Still, with its quirky art style and fairly witty humor that is set in Samurai's afterlife, Skulls of Shogun features a well designed and carefully balanced mechanics, I find Skulls of Shogun to be very enjoyable game to play. At the same time, the game tries to introduce a gridless movement system where your unit's movement range is denoted by a white circle with a fixed radius, I find this innovation to a decent change that works well to be an alternative to the typical grid system found in a lot of TBS games. Combining with the cross platform compatibility with PC's Steam version, one could even play this game on the go then finish it on a PC. While Skulls of Shogun looks like a mobile port, it felt more like a PC game with reasonable amount of depth despite having a rather small unit roster. Each unit has its own unique role that can be useful in the right hands. The campaign is well paced while the game constantly throwing new and interesting challenges to keep it fun. There is also asynchronous multiplayer but I haven't try it yet. If you like Turn Based Strategy, give Skulls of Shogun a go if you have the chance. You could find yourself putting a couple of hours into this indie gem. Even at $5, this game is worth buying for the 7 hours+ of enjoyable gameplay.

Awesome!. A great strategy game with lots of character. The visual style is really cool, but sometimes leads to a bit of clutter on maps. The writing really reminds me of 90s cartoons. Looking forward to diving into the multiplayer!

Update the game now!. The game is very good in the storyline and in the graphics . I like the story and I love the graphics as well as multiplayer. I do suggest making a few bug fixes because during my gameplay, my screen was moving to a spot where it wasn't supposed to go. Thats the only downside for skulls of the shogun so good job!

Great but. Great game I am really enjoying it. But I don't like how if you fail some of these larger missions you need to start at beginning and have to go through all the "cut scenes" again. Plz do better with saves!

Really great game. I was skeptical about this game at first but before too long I was playing constantly. This game has had me laughing at every cutscene in it and I thoroughly enjoy the gameplay. Highly recommended! I know I'm going to be buying it on pc too!

More than worth it!. I've been keeping an eye on this game ever since I saw an early preview of it on GiantBomb, and have been waiting for it to come to iOS ever since. The game is stock full of content and the gameplay is divided into relatively quickly digestible sections - I can usually beat a mission or two during my morning commute. For anyone looking for an incredibly well thought out turn-based strategy game with a great sense of humor, this is the one to get!

Horrible controls and broken save function. The controls are not very well done and need munch improvement, there's bugs not letting me see the range of the enemies movement a lot of the time, save disappears off screen, this port is by no means finished

Iphone 6S IOS9.1. Im really upset because i have this game on my computer and my ps4 but when i downloaded it on here it crashes on startup screen which is sad cause i really enjoy this game but the last update was for IOS5 so i guess i shouldve read the updates before spending 5 dollars...

Plz fix the crashes. I have this game on my Computer and i enjoy it very thoroughly, I got the mobile version when It came out, When I first launched the Game extremely laggy, I have a 64gb mini Ipad, i returned back to the game today still incredibly laggy, I cant deal with it plz fix it devoloper

Doesnt work. Crashes 1 second into loading. Known issue for awhile and the developers clearly don't care to fix it. Not sure how this is even still on the app store for sale.

Great game but HORRIBLE lag!. Only 3 stars because it's a fun game but starts to lag REALLY bad after a while. Come on.. This gets VERY annoying right in the middle of the heat of battle..

Cloud saves.. Great but needs cloud saves so we can switch between devices. This should be mandatory for universal games.

Crashes on open. I had this game back with my windows phone in 2013. Fast forward to today I bought it prior to reading reviews. Crashes when trying to open up. Don't waste your time. Sad way to go the game really was awesome. Will update if they fix.

Crashes on startup on iPad Air, iOS 9. This app crashes immediately on startup on my iPad Air running up to date, non-jailbroken iOS 9. The title screen flashes visible for a second, then the app crashes immediately back to the home screen.

perfect. played all the way through a number of times. well balanced, beautiful, excellent and original style and score, well designed levels and units, hilarious, deep and smart gameplay, challenging and a blast to play. bravo.

Crashes, no cloud storage. Great game but it crashes. I was on the last level, about to win but can't complete because game has crashed. It will not load after multiple reboots. I will have to uninstall and start over...not likely.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME - WONT OPEN. The game crashes on start up ever since the most recent iOS update. According to their message boards they're aware of it, but still no fix. I'll update if/when I get to play it, but we'll see.

Crashing. It loads up and "minimizes" itself because you can still see it active in the "background" but once you click on it, it loads up only to automatically "minimize" itself again. will ask for a refund.

Doesn't work. I purchased it and it won't even work. The game starts the loading screen and then disappears. You can see it running in the background but can't bring it forth. Waste of money.

Broken do not buy. This app does not work on iOS 9. They have not put out an update since 2013 and from the forums seem to have no sense of urgency to fix the problem. If you have bought it go to the iTunes Store and get a refund.

Frustrated please fix.. The game crashes seconds after opening the application it's very frustrating I used to play this all of the time and make in app purchases please fix so I can get my money's worth!

Perfect. Basically perfect RTS. Art direction is terrific, dialed-down gameplay; UI is a bit busy but that's pardonable. Congrats to the developers!

Awesome. To not be able to play a game I purchased and paid money for. I’m not signing in to anything. You have literally made it so I will never purchase a game you even look at. This is such garbage.
