Latest update. This app no longer works with the latest iOS 8 update that came out. It will not even open. I have deleted it and reinstalled it with no luck. Don't they test these things before putting them out there ?

Good magazine, terrible app. I have been a subscriber to the digital edition of Stereophile for years. I love the magazine but this app is junk. Every 6 months or so it quits allowing me to download the latest issue which typically ends up with me having to send copies of my subscription receipts to prove I have a current subscription. Then I end up having to delete and reinstall the app which removes all of my older downloaded issues which then causes me to have to send in copies of older subscription receipts to prove I should have access to them. Well it’s happened again, my subscription just renewed in December 2022 and it’s not letting me download the February 2023 issue. Even the latest app update didn’t fix the issue. The magazine is good but not worth this frustration. At this point I am just canceling my subscription and saying goodbye to Stereophile.

Can’t download new issues. Same problem here keeps asking me to suscribe

Currently broken. I can verify others’ experience that the app crashes every few minutes of use recently. All but useless, it must be restarted at least a dozen times to read a single issue.

Stereophile. I enjoy reading about hi-fi equipment ,and the magazine is wonderful . The app with newsstand is occasionally problematic with subscription went started or when it's up. I would like older issues. It shouldn't be this difficult . Thanks

Doesnt work consistently. All of a sudden, with my subscription good for another 6 months, I cant get the most recent issue to download. I cant get any past issue from the home screen. From the my library screen, I can get past issues but not the current one. I have had various problems with this app over quite a period of time. I recemmend you get a mail subscription. At least you can count on that.

Good app, looks just like the print edition. Good app, looks just like the print edition - which it its strength and its fault. I don't like to scroll around the page to read it (especially on my iPhone).... A Safari like Reader option would be perfect!

New App. With the new application I not only have been unable to download the new June issue that just came out, but I have also been unable to read or re-load the past issues that I had in my library. What do you expect me to do? I will probably just cancel my subscription and ask for a full reimbursement. It is really a stupid way for any company to lose loyal subscribers like me, especially for not performing as expected. I gave this app a 1 star rating because it does not allow me to give it anything lower, but I do give it a 0 rating.

Fixed!!! Thank you!!'. New upgrade solves the problem of issues not loading or partially loading then crashing. I sincerely want to thank whomever did the work. I love consuming my favorite magazine on my iPad Air, so all is well in my digital world again. Much appreciated! Please ignore my earlier lower rating.

Almost Paid For a Subscription. A pdf file, without the ability to fit to screen and adjust the font so its readable and without Retina quality doesn't cut it. Folks at Stereophile, I haven't subscribed to your magazine in years and was happy to see it available in digital form. Cost savings aside, improve the quality of your product so it's commensurate with the (mostly) quality products you review. Disappointed.

Purchases still won’t restore. As others have experienced with the new update, all my downloads are gone, and the app won’t restore my Apple purchases after several attempts. My subscription is current and has been in place for years - the previous app asked to restore purchases every time I opened it, which was a pain but at least it worked. This is a frustrating mess. HiFi+ has had a smoothly functioning app for years, never an issue - it really shouldn’t be this difficult.

Stable for me, though slow. Not many bells and whistles on this, but it's great to have the content on my iPad. Page turning and loading is a bit slow (I'm on an iPad 2, so I imagine it may be slower on an iPad 1). Looking forward to future updates.

Good app. Glad to have Stereophile at my fingertips. I wish the digital version updated to the next month in sync with the paper subscription.

App crashes every five minutes. So I have to cancel my subscription after 20 years because this app crashes after 5 minutes. First, it will lock up, then it will disappear. Then you have reopen and go through the do you want to restore purchases. Then you have to advance to where you left off only to have it lock and disappear again. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it and I tried full restore of the ipad through itunes and nothing worked. The app worked pretty good for 2 years before this frustrating mess. Not sure if its the app or a bug in download.

Terrible. My experience trying to get this digital magazine has been unbelievably bad. I'm unable to get any issues, get a refund, get customer service of any kind. Hard for me to believe that a venerable publication like this is purveying its product in such a shoddy way. Shame on you Stereophile. I thought you stood for something.

Crashes every time.. Like other reviews here, I have experienced the app crashing every time I attempt to launch it. It's only worked once for me and unfortunately I paid for a subscription when it did, so looks like $12 down the drain. Very disappointing.

Old app bad ... new app worse. Avoid at all costs until issues resolved! Old app used to crash all the time, but at least I had my content. With new app all issues from my subscription have disappeared. Very sad. Hope they get their act together soon.

Slow, occasional crashes and fuzzy pages. No comments on the magazine content, which is fine. However, the app is awful. It takes FOREVER to render pages, making “browsing” a joke. Worse, sometimes the page half renders (fuzzy, pixelated view), and then sticks there .. forever. Be prepared to wait 20-30 seconds between pages.

Just like the good of' days!. Waaaay back in the days before the Internet, I subscribed to Stereophile - and waited every month for the mail carrier to deliver my new issue. It had great articles, reviews, features and tips - and it came in a distinctively small format that made it easy to carry in a backpack, briefcase or purse. Well, it is still GREAT magazine and it works superbly on my iPad Mini 2. Still easy to carry and a joy to read! Highly recommended.

Problems and more problems. I signed up and PAID for a 2 year subscription and all the app wanes is more money for another subscription. No one ro talk to about this.

Won't replace print. When it works, it's ok. But it's been stuck on June for some time now and July and August issues just never show up. I've paid for a year subscription so I'm now I'm stuck with a useless app.

App Doesn’t Work. App doesn’t provide content after paying $9.99. Apple won’t help except for providing a credit for three free movies. Stereophile won’t help. Have submitted a support request to app developer. Hitting restore purchases doesn’t help - have tried this multiple times.

Content is ok. Execution is poor.. Even with the latest iPad the application is slow. It's clear that they aren't really paying attention to the image quality or taking advantage of anything a digital edition might offer. If you just want to cut down on paper it's ok, but so slow that you would be forgiven for killing a few trees for the analog version.

Great idea. sadly, app crashes all the time. I was excited to see this application make its debut. Sadly, every times I attempt to open the app, it crashes. The one time that I was able to run the application, I found the application to be faithful display of the original magazine. As with many magazine apps, I wish this one would take better advantage of dynamic formatting in landscape and portrait mode on the iPad. I hope the publishers resolve the crashing soon.

Frustrating and useless. Haven’t been able to read and download a magazine in a year but the annual renewal charge process works fine. Have tried all the tricks but still can’t restore purchases and read a magazine. “What Hi-fi” from India works great. Will stick with it.

Links Missing. App is sorely missing the ability to click on links, or adds and automatically be sent there. Visit Mac World, HiFi News, etc. to see how an outstanding reader should work.

Return my money this hasn’t worked for a while. So the previous Stereophile app would only let me read a few pages before crashing... Now there is a new app and Stereophile renews my subscription... but this app will not deliver me any content. This is a garbage app, Stereophile and the sham of a developer should be ashamed of themselves.

Great updated app. My older subscription was a little clunky but the new update fixed all the issues. Love the few of the magazine on both iPad and mobile phone. Recommend it highly

RIP OFF. MyTimeMedia LTD knows nothing about app support or costumer service. I subscribed to Stereophile for years several years ago, a few months after this developer took over, I lost access to everything. I recently subscribed to Sound & Vision (I should have known better), only to find that after a couple of issues, all past issues were removed and the app acted as if I don't exist. Customer support blames my user ID or my IPad Pro for their issue. Stereophile is a great magazine. This developer does not know how to keep it together. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP DEVELOPER

Absolute Garbage App. I enjoyed reading Stereophile magazine in dead-tree format for a number of years before switching to the iOS app version. However, since the latest update it has become a festering pile of dung. Not only have I lost all the back issues I had downloaded, but now it won’t even let me log in. It says all email address does not exist. I’ve tried several. Even the App Store account email which, given that’s what I signed up for the subscription with, is not accepted. My advise is, do not touch this app with a barge pole.

Terrible. The app now says “It will work” if you cancel your subscription and then resubscribe… but it does not. How incompetent can they be?!

Terrible app. I finally gave up and cancelled my subscription after more than 15 years because of this pathetic and frustrating app! Constantly having to restore purchases the it stopped working even though it said restore was successful. Given the great technology out there, this app and the lack of support for it is shameful. It’s ruining the magazine’s reputation.

Almost there...good but can go further. I enjoy reading stereophile and had a print subscription for many years. Then switched to digital. I've tried zinio and the newsstand app version. I prefer the reliability of the newsstand app over zinio, but the links embedded in the zinio version were a great amenity. Once this version starts having those types of amenities it will be a great option for readership to access not only the stereophile website database but direct access to their advertisers too.

There is no excuse for how terrible this app is. Same as other users, I repeatedly had problems whenever a new issue came out, there would be problems downloading it, it would tell me I wasn’t subscribed, etc.... Every single time I had to contact tech-support and they would give me a new password so this app would recognize it. The problem was every time I did this it would forget all the in app purchases I made, and then I would have to let them know manually whatever back issues I had purchased. It’s like the idiots who developed this app never actually go back and fix any of the issues, issues that no other magazine app that I use has, they would rather inconvenience the customer and have them reach out to customer support and wait days just to get a copy of the magazine that they have paid for. And it happens over and over and over again. What is really ironic is hi-fi magazines media are so endangered and so many classic hi-fi magazines have gone under, you would think that they would be so thankful that anyone would actually subscribe, and do a decent job, fix problems that have been long-standing. It’s almost like the people that run this want to wound Sterophile mortally through their incompetence and indifference. If it sounds like I’m being melodramatic, go ahead and subscribe and get yourself ready for year of headaches.

Great, but older issues should be available. I know that in the physical world, if you buy a subscription to a magazine you don't receive a truckload full of back issues, for reasons of practicality, but in the digital world having hundreds of back issues poses no trouble. This would easily be a 5 star app if back issues were made available with purchase of a subscription.

Great content at my fingertips!. Love having a copy of Stereophile with me wherever I go! Looks okay on my iPad 3, I suppose they could have increased the resolution, but I think each issue would be much larger in file size, so I'm okay with it.

Pretty good. It's great to have this magazine available in this portable format. No more stacks of old issues in a corner! Live hyperlinks would really round this out. I'm sure advertisers would appreciate it as well.

Lapsed subscriber stays lapsed. After having been a subscriber for many years and having dropped my subscription many years ago, I was interested to see what Stereophile had become on a digital medium. Unfortunately, the content is difficult to read, pixelated, and the layout has not been adapted to digital device and touch interaction. I don't see a reason to become a subscriber again.

desperately needs reformatting. Nearly impossible to use on an iPhone - and on the iPad it desperately cries out for proper reformatting to work with the way an iPad is really used- in horizontal wide screen format, and NOT simply a digital recreation of the magazine. The NewYorker would be a good example of a good rethink of how the magazine experience can evolve to digital. I quite like the content, happy to pay for it, buts a shame insufficient attention has been paid to the actual user experience.

Visual quality?. The example pages on the App Store are low-res, pixelated and hard to read. Is this representative of the delivered product, or an anomaly? And if it isn't representative, why aren't you putting your best foot forward here? It's 2013, guys: this stuff was worked out ages ago. I'm a long-time Stereophile reader who might prefer a digital subscription, but reluctant to spend $12 to find out if the pages are as poorly rendered as shown to prospective subscribers!

Sick of renewing subscription and not getting issues. Once again my subscription renewed, yet the app doesn't acknowledge it, and I can't get the latest issues. Previously, removing and reinstalling the app would fix the problem, but this time that didn't even work.

Buggy, please fix ASAP. - Crash all the time, to fix I need to delete and reinstall, - takes a long time to download the magazines, - downloads the magazines one by one, - can't download in the background, has to keep the app open - pixelated until resize the page, takes about a half a minute to become readable

Love it, but.... Wish the photos looked better and the hyperlinks worked. Also, wished that the dictionary of my iPad worked with the app... Other than that... LOVE IT!

Terrible app. I have been a subscriber to the digital Stereophile app for nearly three years. On a regular basis over those years, I have not been able to load digital issues without paying additional $7.99 for née issue in addition to subscription price. In the past, although I have had to send several emails each month to Stereophile , the problem was eventually resolved. For February edition, however, I have now sent four emails to Stereophile over five days with no response from customer service and no fix. I still cannot access the issue. Just crazy, especially for a magazine that is supposed to be tech-savvy.

Unimpressed. I have been a Stereophile subscriber for years, in print and electronically, and I was happy to see the app. I am, however, unimpressed by the app. I have been unable to download the latest issue of the magazine for days, and have been unable to get any response from customer service. The app itself does nothing to take advantage of the iPad, it basically looks like a PDF of the magazine, very uninspiring. I hope Stereophile fixes the problem with downloads ASAP, but they will not be getting a new subscription from me, I've gotten tired of the problems and luring design.

Same old thing. This is the same problem as everyone else. Alex Woods writes a letter and says he can’t find the subscription. The Apple rep says it is not their fault and no body looks at the comments to see that something is very wrong with the connection between iTunes and the company server. GET THIS CORRECTED!!!

If you want great sound..... If music is a passion of yours then you want to reproduce it with the best quality gear you can afford. It doesn't have to be big bucks. Don't listen to the know nothings who tell you all audio equipment sounds the same and only speakers matter. It all matters. This magazine covers über expensive gear but also covers modest affordable gear that offers great playback quality.

Non existent customer support. I bought the magazine and digital subscription. Being unable to login with my email as directed, I reached out to customer support multiple times with no response. Wasted my time and my money… such a shame. This magazine picked the wrong app to represent their publication

Please don't. I have and had subscribed to Stereophile for literally decades. This is the straw that broke the camel's back: honestly, save yourself the inevitable frustration and don't bother trying to read on your iPad. The publisher doesn't deserve your free gift--note: buying a subscription is not going to let you actually read the magazine you're just gifting $10/year for a scam. The app does not work. You give the money in order to pay a button called "iTunes subscribers click here" and then wait to see if it deigns to let you read. Please save your money they do not deserve it.

Be nice if you had archive access. Decent magazine app, would be nice if you had access to a searchable article archive like some other subscription mags offer

Nearly unreadable. The graphics and even the text are in low resolution. Since the text of this mag is very small it makes reading barely usable. Get the subscription of the same magazine from the Zinio app instead where graphics are in hi res and the text is extremely readable on the new iPad.

Great magazine for the audiophile. Great magazine and substantially cheaper than the print edition, no problems with the app at all and contrary to other reviews text and pictures are perfect.

Not so good. Crashes, had trouble download this month copy. So far so bad, need a fix quickly.

Will not download new issues. App doesn’t download new issues even though you’re logged in as a current subscriber. No way to fix and no way to get support. Clearly this app is broken and should not be in the store.

Good reading app. Does what it says on the tin...

Frustrating. Looks great. Works fine…that is until one expands to make the text larger and tries to advance to the next page. It is very difficult to do this. You pretty much have to reduce the page to original size and then it is easy to advance the page. The Zinio Stereophile edition does not have this problem. Stick to Zinio until they fix this app.

Avoid this app. Been a subscriber through the App Store for 5 years. Now I can no longer access any of the 60 or so subscribed issues I have paid for and Stereophile will not resolve the matter saying it’s an iTunes issue. Apple states they have had dozens of complaints on this issue for which they say they have proof it is a flaw in the most recent version of the Stereophile app. All I get is finger pointing and no-one willing to resolve. My recommendation is to avoid this subscription and app all costs.

Great magazine but terrible app service. This magazine is great so if you are into stereo equipment, you will enjoy the magazine. I just cancelled both subscriptions of Stereophile and their sister magazine Sound & Vision because they have terrible service when it comes to apps. They are very slow to emails and very slow in updating their apps. Whenever Apple comes out with update, they always have problems. Then you have to delete app and reinstall, then download all your issues again. Whenever I want to read the magazine I cannot open app especially after new iOS update. I am a subscriber to both magazines and decided not to renew. Terrible support service and email them, they are very slow over there.

No iPhone 5 support. And it's a reading app. I'm paying for this?

Stereophile no longer able to view. Every since the app was replaced by the new app, I am unable to view any Stereophile digital magazines with my Apple ITunes app purchase. I will be asking Apple for a refund on my annual subscription if I can’t get it working again. I just emailed the app developer so we’ll see...

Crappy app. My downloaded issues all vanished after an “upgrade” of the iOS. The restore in app purchases command does not restore all of the missing downloads. I used to be able to read all of my back issues at the lake (where we don’t have wifi). Customer service is non-existent. Would give it a zero if I could.

Terrible app; no customer service. Love the magazine. I’ve been a reader for over 25 years. This app is unusable; it has always been extremely poor but it has stooped to a new level of uselessness. Cannot restore my purchases and ZERO customer support. I guess I’m just screwed.

Stay away does not work. CAncel your subscripts as you won’t be able to download any issues with this app

It's OK, not brilliant. Works relatively slowly, navigation is not easy and hiperlinks are not always working.

Cannot Download. Paid my yearly subscription but the app will still not allow me to download issues. No response from the company after many emails.

Do Not Buy For iPhone. For some reason, you are unable to zoom in ... without that feature the text is too small to be read. App may be OK for iPads, but AVOID for your iPhone.

Terrible. I tried for a week to get a subscription to work and no luck. No support either. I tried three times and no response. I cancelled the subscription. I guess I will try Absolute Sound or go back to the print edition.

Terrible app. I am a long time online subscriber. Now with update I am unable download any issues even though my iTunes subscriptions remains active. I appreciate the content but PLEASE get it together. 1 star at best.

Major IOS8 problems. Apple should be held accountable for some of this mess....Stop selling your customers apps that can't operate under your operating systems!

CRAP. This was great at one time, Now all I do is hit restore. And..... nothing is restored. My subscription is still active but I can’t access any issues new or issues I could access before. They ignore messages. AVOID This app. It is useless.

Inaccessible to blind and visually impaired users. I find it distressing that this application is completely an accessible to blind and visually impaired usable with regard to the reading material. Shame on you Stereophile.

Magazine good. Picture resolution not so good.. Great articles but the resolution of the pictures leaves a lot to be desired. There's a lot eye candy but if I try to get a close up, it's super pixelated.

Unbelievably Bad. Magazine is fine, but app is spectacularly terrible. Constantly crashes, can’t keep track of page you’re on. Must be trying to get us to return to the print version.

Does not work. Since I updated to the latest version of this app i can't restore my purchases and I'm unable to view any of my downloaded issues. So far contacting support has not been helpful.

Doesn’t work. Every month is a fiasco try to get the magazine. I’m subscribed thru feb 2021 and the app tries to charge me every month

Bug City. This app needs a complete re-do. It is full of bugs. It hangs, shuts down for no apparent reason, and is very glitchy.

Zero Stars. App does not restore any issues since version 4.0. That means your subscription is useless. All past issues are gone. Do not purchase. Forget about a fix. They just don’t care.

Just a PDF. Nothing wrong with just selling a PDF. But the iPad has half the real estate of a mag, this means the articles are written in something like a 7 point font. It is hard for my near perfect eyes.

Needs retina support. This is difficult to read at times due to lack of support for retina displays. Good content!

Reformat for digital. If the digital version of this magazine was an audio file, it would be the lossiest, lowest bit-rate garbage out there. I enjoy the content but it's nearly unreadable in this format.

Restoring purchases still not working!. Who on earth tested this app? I’ve tried restoring my purchases several times, and I’ve tried reinstalling the app. Nothing works, so I can’t read my magazines!

Awful. Impossible to read the mag using an iPhone. The content is excellent as it has been for decade BUT very, very difficult to use on iPhone or iPad. PLEASE improve.

Lost!. Long time itunes subsciber. Just upgraded and lost everything. I have to figure out how to cancel it all and not get charged again for this disaster!

Bad App. I have to delete and then reinstall the app nearly every time I try to read the magazine. I love the magazine content but the app is awful.

Works as advertised. This app really does a pretty good job, and the links to advertisers is also helpful.
