Why can’t I crop?. This was my go-to app for reading scripts whil commuting. The old app could crop the tops and bottoms off so it wasn’t reading aloud the headers and footers with every page. The “new” version with “enhanced customization” doesn’t have this feature. I also can’t rename things. I used to be able to say “Int” is interior, “Ext” is exterior and “DR” is doctor. It gets really annoying when it reads “DR HARRIS” as “Drive Harris”. Restore the features you stripped out! The old version was better.

Great App! Bad Navigation. I would really really really love to give this app five stars. I use it all the time and it has totally transformed the way I consume text books and other things that I can't find in audiobook format. I've use this app for years. Yet there is one gaping problem. The navigation is very challenging. If you try to change where the cursor is reading, you can easily flip to the next page by accident. If you try to scroll through the pages using the slider at the bottom of the page, you can easily jump five or 10 pages ahead of where you are, totally losing your spot. Often, the slightest touch will mean you will lose your place with no way to find out where you were. I also find that the app does not have a great memory when it comes to interruptions. If you get a phone call while listening it will often start you over again at the last place you shut down the app. If you're listening quite a lot, this could mean when you start the app again you find yourself a dozen pages back. It would also be really helpful if there is a way to underline, highlight, or in someway Mark pages for important information. I read long text books with this app and ultimately there's no way to Mark important sections and return to them later. Amazing app, and if marketed well, this could be a game changer. However, as it is now it's challenging.

Convenience. I really like that I can listen to a report while getting dressed or driving to a meeting. When trying to put something to memory I can turn up the speed and play it several times. It's like my brain on crack. I love it. Only thing.. The speaker is not as clear as the speaker Apple uses for the speak option. Still very good but if it was the same voice I would be better. They must not have the rights to use it. The voice can sound a little electronic at times. Also moving the mouse or red box can be annoying. Over all glad I have it would have paid $10 for it. $20 if they fix the voice.

Clunky and Deceptive. Complaint wine before you can use this you have to spend five dollars to purchase a voice. That should be made very clear before you start this program. The English voice is relatively good as far as smoothness goes... but it has a hard time reading many common words. For instance "what" was read as "w h at". How do you possibly messed up something that simple? The program is clunky and moves very slowly when I tried to scroll from page to page. And I'm having quite a difficult time getting the cursor to move to any particular point of my choosing. If you don't mind the hidden cost and if you only want to read a document from start to finish without choosing a starting point your self and if you don't mind these strange pronunciations then this may be okay. Unless these problems are addressed I cannot recommend this app. BTW, I am using it on iPad 3.

Will charge you over and over. I have paid for the full version twice and now it’s still not working and wants to charge me a third time. It’s overall decent but not worth paying for more than once.

wonderful app!!!. I bought the paid app. Well, after it was working fine, one day I couldn't get it to play sound because the physical mute button was on, bit I didn't know that was the problem, since Pandora was working, and I thought that button only controlled the ringer and text sounds, but it actually also controls the sound on this PDF ebook reader. Their technical support team got back to my inquiry same day to help me fix it so it would work again! How cool is that! Thanks for creating this app. I love it!!! True the free version will not play your own books unless you pay $5 for a voice but the thing is, you can try it out with their pre-installed books (like Ths US Constitution) and see if its worth buying. It totally is. It's awesome!!!

Great reader!. It has been wonderful to get my college reading in while getting other things done around the house!! I am an Auditory learner so this has been very useful tool. Otherwise my roommates would find me asleep in by books with print on my face. Yes the voice is dull but it has been worth it. Certain abbreviations may be misrepresented such at "street" instead of "saint" for "St." but again worth it. It keeps your place even when switching between books, has a cursor to start in a specific spot, adjustable speed, find a word in the document. It cannot read every PDF (super old font), however it reads the ones that have been formatted well.

5 Star Customer Support!. Update: I have been using VbookZ for 8+ years and love it but now it wants me to purchase aleeady purchased voices. I reqched out to support- we will see what they do to restore as now it pauses every five or so sentences- if they restore I will restore the 5 stars- I have only been using today. Voice is fairly natural except for the way it reads "'" it reads couldn t or wouldn t. Kind of annoying.. Please fix!!! Then 5 star thus far. I had issues other than this. Customer service fixed it within an hour. Great support!

Pros & Cons. Do find this app useful, It is something I have been looking for to aid my life. Pros: 1.able to pick a speed on speech is great, it's a time saver for someone needs to read through a pdf file fast. 2. it boxes up the word that is reading helps to keep up and know where it is left of on your hard copy. 3. a version comes in female and male voice is a plus. Cons: 1. it's slow to respond. it might be my iPhone is packed with multiple things. Slow to respond means it doesn't respond to your command right away... almost feels like it's going to freeze on you ( it didn't so far, but it's annoying when I want it to stop and it's still going) 2. because of slower respond, i don't even bother to enlarge my page to a readable size on the phone 3. this only works for pdf files, so it's only whatever you have in pdf. it only reads pdf. It won't read your email that you want to send out or other stuff like in other apps that provide. Over all: I still like it, since it does what I originally wanted which is finding an app to read my pdf files for me. But definitely feel a bit cheated with the $4.99 when I compare to other apps that what they can do for lesser price. But like I said, it serves what i needed... therefore I didn't buy other cheap one to try out ... thinking cheap ones I might find just as much flaws :)

It works good, given where OCR and voice technology currently is. I gave this app 4 stars, but if this type of technology was more advanced, then I probably would've given it a three. I like the voice it's easy to listen to and it doesn't sound very digital at all. However, it stops and then skips sometimes in the middle of the reading/ text. So you always have to pay attention while you're being read to, so no listening in the car or jogging, as it will be interrupted. I wish there was a way to instantly stop the reading, rather then having to tap first to wait for the pause button to appear. And sometime when I do touch the screen, then it moves to the next page and screws up the flow and I gotta find where I left off which is pretty annoying. (But when everything flows, it's a really good app.)I do like how you can use the little box to navigate through the text and how you can speed up or slow it down with precision. Adding and deleting files is super easy. For $4.99 it's an ok deal. I couldn't find anything else equivalent or cheaper except for prizmo which allows you to take pics , converts to OCR and also reads to u.

Worst. Hi, last update without quotes, and don’t open a PDF of a book.

A nice effort - but it falls short on naturalness. I really like the interface - having the ability to tap where you want the reading to start. That is a great implementation. The voice's are not very natural sounding, however. I'll be waiting until it has a better sound before I plunk some cash down on this app. There are other apps, which have a much more natural sound to them. I admit, I've only tried the trial app, but I don't want to put down cash on something having the deficiency I mentioned. The directions mentioned voices for various languages can be purchased. Does this mean the price doesn't include at least one voice? If so, I get to pay more for an app over and above its base cost? I purchase it and then I purchase a language too? Wow, kind of strange if that is the case.

No restore purchase function. I bought this app December of 2019 and had to reinstall the app and it’s making men purchase the app all over again. This is unacceptable. Stay away from the app until they fix restore purchase.

Good app with potential to be great. This app works but has issues. I want to be merciful to it because I know the technology isn't perfected yet. It does have a great user interface. As long as it doesn't hit a character that makes it stop reading, I don't mind waiting as it reads footnotes and even dots. It certainly is a step up from reading tiny text on my iPhone. Also, it has a text mode that is similar to Safari Reader that makes the text larger and readable, even if you don't listen to the audio. I'm going to take a risk and say that future upgrades to this app will make it one of the best PDF readers. Worth the 5 bucks which you will have to pay for a language license. It will double check when you start the first book to make sure you purchased the language license by asking for your password. I give 3 stars for it "as is", and potential for 5 stars when they work the bugs out.

Unfair business practice?. Every time either iPhone updates its software or VBookz update theirs, i end up paying $4.99 for repurchase.. I wish. I knew before saving my material on their app.. two companies have tech issues and I have to pay for their incomparability!!!

Almost there. Works great for PDFs that are a single column of text vertically oriented to the page. Smooth continuous reading you can pause and continue. It does not work for text with any other orientation - this is so sad because it works so well when it does work. Please fix this! Also, would be great to be able to insert notes and highlights. This is the best reader I have found when it does work for a text I need- keep adding features to stay ahead of the pack.

Great app. Love this app, voice takes a little getting used to, and it occasionally does odd things, mispronounces, "comma", "dash", rereads titles and page numbers at the top of the page. Some of it might be my using it as an audio book... But for 5$ nothing I've found in the App Store comes close. I use this app to read just about everything, great for getting through large amounts of information. Does less well at poetry, dramatic readings, and anything technical with a lot of diagrams. Even with the problems you get more then you pay for with this app.

Piece of Garbage App!!!. This app used to be awesome. I used it all the time. Now the quality of the voice reading to you has changed and NOT for the better. It even SOUNDS cheap. Now they want you to pay for it. If you don’t pay your reading will be paused and interrupted until you do. It would be one thing if the quality of the voice was just as it was along with the bells and whistles that originally came with this app but that’s not the case. They want you to pay for a far lesser quality product and the way they transitioned into this pile of trash is just not cool, to which I say Eff you vBookz!!!! And yes I would have happily parted with 5 bucks for the original version of this app even as a yearly fee or whatever. I’m deleting your worthless app right after I’m done here.

Rip off app. While reading it jumps from one place to the other. What’s the point? Pricey and not effective, I don’t recommend this app

Not as good as I was hoping. Most of my problem with this app is really more of a problem with my professors' inability to use a scanner properly. Even the documents that are mostly legible are rotated 90 degrees off, and none of it is OCR'd. When I try to OCR the scans myself Acrobat can't read the words in the shaded margins by the spine of the book, so the app then skips the first new word of every line when reading it. I wish the makers of the app had allowed for trying it out on our own documents before buying it so I could've known this before I gave them $5. Hopefully it'll work better on journal articles and stuff that were PDF to begin with though. Voices aren't too bad though. Not very robotic, but they space the words out strangely so it doesn't sound entirely natural either. But if it would actually read the PDFs I needed it to read it would be markedly better than having to sit for hours getting fat while I do stupid school readings.

Restoring purchases is not easy to find but it’s there. Updating my previous review. The app in general is a good app. If you had it before the update and need to restore your purchase the restore option is at the bottom of the voice purchase list. It’s the very last item. Just select restore purchase then close and reopen the app. I would give the app more stars if the restore purchase option wasn’t in a difficult location to find.

Pretty good app. Not able to sit to read, this app reads my PDF docs to me. Being able to adjust the speed is handy. I like the option to purchase different languages. Pausing and restarting, refinding where I left off and directing the voice to a new page or paragraph when I want to deviate from logical continuities, which the app handles smoothly, can be frustrating. But all in all, app is a super aid to me.

FRAUD!!! I purchased the app long time ago and two languages and now is charging me again.. It is charging me again in order to use it. I purchase the app and languages a while ago.

Very Good App. This is my primary app for reading PDFs for papers I have to read for school. It generally works well for most text with some odd pronunciations here and there. It does poorly on mathematical equations, but if the app does not know how to parse the equation so that it would read it in a mathematically logical with words that would help give context when the equation is not visible rather than just reading characters and symbols this would be a wonderful app. Also reading data in tables in a more natural manner would help a lot.

Great for Me. I love this App. I'm a law student and responsible for reading way too much information and this app allows me to have it read to me while I drive, or do anything else that requires my hands. The only thing that could make it better is the ability to touch a place on a page instead of having to start from the very top. If the document doesn't load, sometimes its there, but I can't see it.. I a search or refresh and it will show up for me.

Functional friendly, emotionally dull. This Reeder seems to be user-friendly and not bad to navigate. It is not quite like listening to an audiobook, mainly because of the lack of the touch of human inflection. There are occasional reading errors when it comes to the odd words in the English language that don't translate well via computer but for the value of the product, it can be overlooked. It is a solid product for what it is intended and I would recommend it!

How can I restore my paid account. Do I have to pay again to restore my old account? Help!

Garbage but what choice do you have. This is a paid app that reads PDFs for you. As far as the sound quality goes it works pretty well. Besides that this app doesn't do anything well. There are no bookmarks, it will not play sound with the screen off, it will not output the sound through the data port and you just don't know where you can touch it without it changing the page. I really wish there was a better way to have content read to me while I ride the bus (I get a little motion sick when I read on the bus) but I sadly couldn't find anything better.

Value is solid, it would be nice to control talk speed(s) more like an audio video podcast system. Also it s we oils be great to see text being read aloud larger at the bottom, a tricky to program feature to assist comprehension.

“Migration of your old documents” big problems. I've been using the apps for 3 years, it's been fantastic. three days ago my iOS was updated and the app asked to do the same. I did. now it cannot load the books and after a few seconds the app restarts. I wrote an email but I still have not received a response. I had several Important books.

Subscription Issue. I paid for a subscription, and it is now asking for payment. I had many apps this is only one doing an action. Recommended solution: restore the purchases or ask for a subscription.

It has various challenges but is better than any others. This application has various challenges, however it's much better than many of those out there. One of my biggest problem is that I find is that does not point out where you are while reading, the second issue is that it's hard to control the page or navigated the page is easy to lose the location where you were reading. If this issue is work to resolve this would be one of the best application for reading out of phones out there 🤔

Good speech, but impossible to navigate. The reading, although slightly choppy, is better than any other text to speech that I have heard, and pronunciation is excellent, as well as tone/inflection. That part of the app is 5 stars - but the functionality is 1 star. As far as I can tell, you can’t start reading mid-page, you can’t rewind or fast forward, and while you can move forward or backward one page at a time, you can’t jump to a page (at least not precisely), which is a real problem in documents that are hundreds of pages. If you miss a word or sentence, you have to restart the page from the beginning. Bottom line it’s just a bad interface, and you won’t learn that until you pay for it, because the free version is very limited.

Two years of awesomeness. I have no clue how this application is not bigger for people. This app has allowed me to read books in pdf file for every class taken in my masters program. The only thing that has been upsetting is I can no longer zoom in and out with the update. Please fix this problem.

Could be amazing, but navigation is horrible.. You pay per language, it gives one free page. The app can be amazing, but it suffers a huge deficit in navigation. It starts at the beginning of the page, and does not allow you to place a curser over where you want it to begin. You can't tap the screen to see how much you have left to go because it flips to another page and starts there, then when you try to go back it starts from the beginning. It doesn't recognize chapters or section numbers and references - reads numbers and you can't skip over. Very very frustrating, especially when you are trying to study with it. I would pay three times this amount to have something with better navigation. I wish the designers would get on this and build it up to its potential. I'm sure it's great for leisure reads in the car or whatnot...

Can’t select voices. I purchased the full version and there are only two voices either male or female and the voices are super robotic. Really regret this purchase.

I am enjoying this AP. I agree with some other reviewers that this app can improve but I gave it five stars because several ridiculous haters have given it one star, which is profoundly unfair. It is my hope that the developers will continue to perfect the voice's smoothness and cadence. But even today she is clear and I can understand her. I have listened to several non-fiction pieces and one fictional piece and I feel well informed and entertained. A very good experience. Some things I hope the developers fix: Add an OCR reader to the app so that PDFs that are not "digital" will play. I'm looking for a work around for that at present. More control over the "curser" would be better. Get rid of the nudge that made me come to review this app. I hate nudges.

Problems. They steal your money. You would have to pay again when you get a new phone. I’ve been trying for days to activate the app on my new iPhone and the app didn’t allowed me. I deleted the app and download it again and now he doesn’t recognize my purchase.

Disappointing. I had high hopes for this app, but I have been let down. First, the simulated voices available still sound like computer synthesized speech that was available in the late 90's. This makes it nearly impossible to look away while listening, because it sounds too computerized and foreign. The cadence of the app's reading speed is herky jerky and doesn't maintain a steady pace. The program reads everything from cover to cover, including page numbers. There should be more options as to what is read and what is skipped, say text within parentheses, covers, page numbers, etc. The test that is used is also misleading as the words were probably very carefully selected to ensure that it sounded decent. I knew then that I would have issues with the voice, but thought with purchase there would be options for different voices. The voice available so badly butcher's more complex pronunciations that it just isn't worth having. Hopefully, some upgrades will fix the issues, because the concept is a great one! I do like the bookshelf and music options, but other than that, this app can only hope for improvements in the future that will help it reach it's potential.

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL APP!!!. BRILLIANT! Already I've loaded 19 PDF's into this amazing app. It reads very well and I can control the pages and the pace. I read plenty journal articles so this app is very helpful and convenient. Also, before I buy any book, I search online for a PDF version of that book. Oftentimes, it's available. So now I have some good books inside this app too! All in all you can't go wrong with this app. It reads accurately and even seems to pause taking a breath so the reading sounds quite natural. The price is right. And after trying the other similar PDF readers, I've selected this as my favorite.

Amazing Great App!!!. Total from the heart truthful review. I am a very slow reader and this app helps me so much. I use it to read me documents, text book chapters for my classes, and books. I am able to get through material fast and retain the information! There is one down side is that the app is free but if you want it to read it to you, you have to buy the voice. BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT!!! I have had this app for about to years now and it is great! It has help me so much in college! I can clean or do what ever while it reads to me and it has help me with my grades because I am able to retain the information. You can read along so you hear it and see it so it will be ingrained in your mind better even if it is horribly dry information. I have had two classes that I have hated because I just did not care, it was hard, and just boring; this app helped me get an A and a B+. Trust me when I say it is worth it! The app has been around for a bit and they have worked out the bugs.

This is a very nice app. This app fits the bill For what I need. Yeah, I see 1 complain that it's not free... That you only get limited freebie. Well I tried it on a doc I wanted to hear. After page 1 it stopped and prompted me to pay. About 5 bucks. Without a moment of hesitation I did the in app upgrade. I am very cheap and normally would not like spending 5 on an app. This app is well worth it. In fact, I hope the guys that designed it make a ton of money on this app because it does exactly what I need. I wish I could change the voice or train it a buy but all in all its fine as it is. Are there other apps in the market that do this? I'm sure there are. This is the first one I saw in a search and it the only one I need. If I had a chance to reconsider my purchase I would still do what I did. I love to listen to lessons, patents, and stuff that I write while driving. To proof "my" stuff it's nice to hear here weird voice because it changes my perspective.

Asking me to buy it again after having purchased it. I bought this app last year, and have been using it since. Although I have been okay with it, Today today the app is asking me to buy the app again to unlock the operation system. I paid the $4.99 last year to buy the app. Why would i have to buy it again? Is this a scam!!?

Purchased functions removed. This app developer has removed previous functions that have been removed in the most recent update. This app no longer works as described by the app developer in the most recent update. I have purchased and was promised to have features that have now since been removed and are requiring me to purchase again. I would not trust the app developer.

Previous Purchases Gone. I used this app for years while in college. Now it will not let me restore previous purchases. Great app when it worked. Now it appears to be a rip off.

Save your money. Paid for a language as it would only let me read 1 page and app didn't updated, waist of money

Bit deceptive. Bit deceptive that you have to buy an expensive language pack as soon as you try to use it with the pdfs that you just spent 20mins uploading to device. This underhanded tactic will hurt your ratings.i would not do it that way if i were you,its a good app essentially.

Poor and limited sample version. This sample version is very limited. It only allows you to listen to one page of your document.

Fantastic. There is so much information to learn that is in PDF format and this app reads it out at what ever speed you desire and most importantly in a very realistic pleasant voice. Fantastic app.

Paid app not working!. After paying for the app. It worked well for a bit now the app shuts down after each page. Support have not responded to emails. No updates in 11 months and I can no longer use the app. There are better apps out with support.

Not Free. Even for the basic application u have to purchase the language for $5.

12 month buy not advertised. Purchased for $8 in 2016; have to pay again to use app. This is not stated anywhere, that $8 is for 1-year only. App worked well enough.

Cursor not tracking with imported PDFs. Bought this app a while ago. Disappointed to hear it hasn’t improved and at 171MB it’s bloatware - better off sticking with KyBook2

Very very dissapointed. DO NOT BUY! For all the same reasons mentioned below. Expensive app (due to compulsory in-app language purchase). Does not work properly. Is missing some very basic features and has a poor user interface.

Worst investment!. The price is all jumbled up! Can't even use it after purchasing it, only reading the first page & ask to purchase it again! Refund required!

Disappointing. Reads every page heading, page number and fails to basic pronunciation .. but worst of all, after purchasing the language some months ago, it prompted a repurchase. So it seems like the language pack has a time limit? So this is either a fault in the app or seriously expensive!

What a joke. After using this app for the last couple of years and purchasing additional voices. The latest update has lost my entire library of content and required me to purchase the voices again. Attempted to contact support a number of times, but it appears support doesn’t exist. What a joke?

Don't bother!. Cannot even try out anything without first forking out $4:95 to buy the "English" language. You are selling the app in the western market and can therefore "guess" that most of speak English!

Ridiculous. It won't read beyond the first page and what it did read is what comes standard with iPad.

Awesome!. This is an excellent app! I don't mind paying the price, just listening to one pdf immediately covers the cost I would have spent buying an audio book. One minor annoyance it keeps reading the header and footer all the time, would be great if it could detect these and strip them out

Buying Languages. Free App! Great potential but will not work or let you interact with the PDF unless you buy a language.

Not far off. I found this app better than "voice reader". But to get it running, I had to pay close to $11 AUD. the downfall for me is it reads headers and footers on every page, before the page content (also page numbers but thats fair enough). it won't read when the iPad locks and you can't pick a new starting point, it'll read from the top if any page. The header footer thing is a real issue, as I don't want web addresses or chapter titles recited to me every page. The locked-voice off is a problem because I can't hear this when I drive which is what I really wanted

Hmmmmmm. Well, for starters my app is not even reading anything.....it just bounces over the text in the box and speaks nothing.....this is included in the example pdf that come with it. I thought if i updated Itunes on lappy and phone it would work but to no avail, i cant seam to find anything to adjust volume and no faq on it....faq does appead to be a good word for this situation right now ! Well it helps to take it off silent.....trap for young players

Waste of money. Don't waste your money on this app! Even after paying extra for the selected language it does not read any text except maybe the text reference if it appears on each page. Unless you want to keep hearing this stupid voice repeat the text reference over and over, save your money and read from the screen as I am doing after wasting my money on this over-priced crappy app!!!

Great App. Voices are the most natural I have tried. Would be great to have an option to correct or override the how the voice reads eg. Initials or technical words, or to not try to read certain characters eg. ..... In a content page. Great app for listening while stuck in traffic

Purchase disappeared. I purchased the voice version .. after updating the app.. I have to buy another voice version ?? I am deleting this

Terrible. There is no way to use it on the free version so I bought the app and it keeps asking me to buy again every 10 seconds. No one replies my emails, I lost $8 dollars.

Rip off. Ask to purchase the language for$4.99 and ask you to buy again the same language for the same price no sooner it has been brought and downloaded. Would like a refund.

A Free App which you have to pay for. This app only gives you the first page for free, then you have to make a purchase. Disappointing. Goo that you can change the speed. Nothing fantastic about it, similar to so many others, but you have to pay for it.

Please bring back the old app. It is sad to see an app that I have used daily for many years updated to something with less accessible features. As an accessibility consultant this used to be the type of app I would recommend to others but sadly not any more. I’m sure the intention of the update was to improve features though as a consultant and person with disability, removing the in-document search feature also removes a lot of its accessibility, where being able to quickly navigate a document and find information is very important. I do also recall being able to scroll out with two fingers to enlarge the text without having to go to the text layout. The text layout can unfortunately be difficult to follow on the phone. Updating the app was also very tricky. Without realising I had saved a lot of documents, over 6 Gb and my phone didn’t have the storage to do the update. It froze and I needed to delete the app and hence loose my saved documents. I don’t recall there being a warning to check the space on the phone first and delete documents that were not required but if there wasn’t one then a warning would be a great idea. The process ended up taking a couple of hours until I received a notification that the issue was a storage one, meanwhile it froze not only the VBookz app but also other apps on the phone. If there is a way to bring back the in-document search feature and ability to enlarge the text on screen that would be wonderful. Or at least warn people that by updating would remove these important features.

Do not bother with this app. As soon as it is installed it wants to hit you up for a language purchase, does not even tell you the cost of the purchase. Further the language algorithm are old and will drive you crazy after 5mins.

Expensive in-app purchase. Couldn't even try one of my documents without an expensive in-app purchase. They should state this in the description before I wasted time trying to get PDF into the app.

Paid but not getting full version!. I bought this app when it first came out, paid I think $6.99 for the English version. Now they want me to pay more to stop the pausing of the app! What is that about! Can I please get an answer from someone about this?

Last update kill this app. The TTS engine does not work as it is supposed to. Words are not pronounced properly (in Spanish) it is annoying to hear a single page Keep away from this application. I would like to have the option to apply 0 stars as a review.

Don’t buy. Bought this app a few years ago. Now locked out and there is no option to restore purchase. Need to pay again to use. I refuse!!! Is the App Store not complicit in our exploitation? Where is the protection for our purchases?

Latest update destroyed this app. I used and happily recommended this app for a couple of years then they updated it, deleted all my books and expect me to pay again to get the voice to work. Years of good work destroyed. Disappointing!

Great app. This app is just what I needed. It does reads my books out loud for me! Not only the app is great, it is also backed up with amazing customer service. I emailed them about a question I had and got my answer within hours. Worth the money for sure!

Do Not Buy. It does not work after paying for the language download. There is no sound at all. This is a scam... it shouldn't be allowed on the App Store.

Genius product. As someone who drives 4-5 hours a day I was finding it hard to do additional studies. Since down loading this app I have been able to listen to literature freely. The USA voice which I choose does sound rather mono tone but the apps ability to translate PDF into audio is a perfect solution for my needs.

Saved me hours. The ability to review material while driving was priceless. The voice takes some getting used to, but once you do, you will devour long PDFs.

Please update!!. The last update was in 2014 need to optimize for iOS 10. Thanks

At Last!. This version addresses one of the biggest problems I had with this otherwise wonderful app. Now you are able to replace annoying readings of punctuation with silence. For example '•' was pronounced 'Small Bullet'. That was really annoying when you might be listening to a Technical PDF with lots of bullet points. I also really like the cropping feature that allows you to focus on the real content rather than the boiler plate in a PDF. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Keep up the good work.

No bluetooth support. If I had known that this app doesn't support Bluetooth I wouldn't have bought it. A critical feature in the car, where I planned to use it exclusively for reading reports.

Great app. Didn't like price surprise but worth it. This is an excellent app the long commute. I can finally save time and listen to important documents while I travel long distances by car. I was shocked by the 5.79 cad fee for the voice package but it is worth it. A bit of bait and switch I agree.

Not perfect. Some PDFs were not read in properly. As a result the moving red box did not correspond to the part of the document being read. Vbooks also has difficulty reading "f"s and often mistakes them for the number "6". Sometimes the reader will jump from the middle of the page to the next. What's more annoying about this hiccup, is I can't seem to figure out what is triggering It. One wish I have for these types of programs is for them to remember your zooming preferences when the page turns. Alternately, I wish they had an option to eliminate as mush white space as possible. On the plus side, the automated voice is pleasant and I love the zooming feature that enables you to avoid headings and other redundant information from being read.

The developer removed the restore purchase feature. It used to be a great app, I have it since 2016. In the last update they removed the Restore Purchase feature and lock the language in a way you are forced to buy it again. Also, they don’t reply messages on their website. Be aware this is no longer a good app to get.

Not worth 6$. I want my money back. In French is doesn't even read it properly. Claims to be free then charges you 6.99$ and I got a robot speaking some broken French very disappointed.

DONT TRY. Nice concept but once u downloa it obly allows u to hear the pre intalled pdfs and not any new ones u download, each languange is an extra 5 dollars and the free version doesnt even come with english.

Doesn’t work. Paid to unlock the voice reader and it just freezes and asks me to pay to “unlock” over and over again... extremely frustrating and disappointing. Will be trying to get my $6.99 back.... would rate it a zero star if possible...

Good app but.... When I bought the voice I wanted, the app is stuck in PLEASE WAIT, CHECKING PAST PURCHASES mode. I have restarted the app and my phone but no luck. Can you please fix this? UPDATE - still not working and has less features than I remember out having after an update. Pauses every several seconds to tell me to buy a voice. I remember it used to let you use a free voice, but that option is gone. This went from great to useless.

Great but...hate in app purchases. We use this app for students requiring text to speech support in out schools BUT the in app purchase methods DOES NOT work for school systems. Please consider making vBookz available in a few voices like many other language apps. Perhaps, vBookz by country where both official languages are included in the app then with an in app purchases are additional voices.

Worthwhile. A little bit finicky but for the technological advance of being able to listen to a PDF, worthwhile. Most PDF work fine in my experience. Large files may crash app, but reinstall from backup & it's fixed. Web pages can also be saved as PDF and used. So worth it for getting through your backlogged document file. Just finished a 130 paper page doc in 5 hrs, during 2 bike rides & some housecleaning.

A good voice reader. Overall a good voice reader for pdf. Does a too long pause after ! and ? and no pause at line ends in poetry and after titles. The voice quality is better than iOS reader and it makes less mistakes. Does a good job reading standard texts. Creating folders for files and renaming has to be added. Kills hyperlinks in your pdf.

Disappointed. Sorry, but disappointing especially for a paid app. Problems with keeping my place, spelling out non-standard words instead of using phonetics like most modern speech to text engines, very slow performance, and I agree -- there should be an option to read page numbers or not and turned off by default in my opinion. Some advice if you really want your product to be successful -- listen to us, your customers and use the constructive criticism to your advantage.

Very good. Naturally, the quality of the "reading" is based on the quality of the PDF, but the application does a great job. It has a variety of features that allow for tweaking - like speaking speed, language, etc. it is easy to navigate, stop, start, etc. I am very pleased and have already recommended to others.

Great app. With a hectic, always on the move schedule, it makes getting all your readings done easier! The update made this app worth the price! If this app had a interactive note taking feature it would be perfect! Just make sure your PDF's are proper ally aligned or the app will miss read the words. It does a good job of catching itself

Does not recognize my ‘English’ purchase. I used this pdf reader for years with no problems but now it keeps asking me to purchase the full voice version. I already purchased it many years ago. I even tried repurchasing after not receiving a response from the developer and it wouldn’t allow a repurchase because it recognizes that I already purchased in the past. So frustrating! Please advise!!!

Biggest waste of time.. The free version lets you read what PDFs they have already in their library. Would be nice if I could have heard a scientific article on their app...tried but couldn't. Also - doesn't seem to integrate with iBooks, which makes no sense. Would have bought the app if it didn't annoy me that I had to send an email of a PDF to myself that I already had on my phone...and then it didn't even work anyway without payment.

AWESOME!!!!!!!. PDFs have come alive! I highly recommend this app for anyone who's in a rush, or just wants to listen to specific tones in a reading piece. Scientific research has proven that listening is more impactful in retaining information. The app offers a wide array of voice narrations of accents, including male and/or female. A MUST HAVE APP!!!!

It's good, could be better. Wish I could give it five stars.. The narrator voice sounds robotic at times and it can't say some words so the voice will spell it out for you, which is kind of weird. Also, the red tracking box thingy is super sensitive so it moves easy and you can lose your reading place, which is annoying!! But other then that it's a good app.

Terrible first impression. This app only lets you preview the first page (the title page, really guys?) You can't even get a good feel for the app, the voices, or if it's worth purchasing. Not only that, but they tell you that you can only preview the first page in broken English, "We give only read the first page!" If you're only going to say one sentence to your prospective customers, you should at least take the time to get it right. I uninstalled this app immediately. I'll find another option.

Great for College!. I'm in college and scanned my chapters and put them in this app! I listen to my chapters I need to read for class on break at work, in the car when driving, and anytime I have down time..... FROM MY PHONE! Doesn't crash on me, I have iPhone 4. Would really like it if it didn't read page numbers and picture paragraphs on the page though! BUT STILL WORKS GREAT! Love it!

Need an improved version. I use the app for reading academic articles. I read more than 150 pages a day and really appreciate this app. This allows me to listen when I’m busy doing something else and saves me a guilt trip. I wish I could highlight texts while listening. Also, I will appreciate features such as bookmarking or note taking with interactive voice command.

Could be much better. This reader could be made much better by making it easier to open web pages in vBookz. Right now, you need to convert the web page to a pdf, then share the pdf to VBookz, and then select it and hit play. It would be great if you could just immediately share a webpage to VBookz and it would start reading... one single step from safari or chrome to open it.

Love, love, love this app. I just love to be able to listen to whole novels that I get online for free! I am currently listening to one in Portuguese, to polish my knowledge and my ear with the language. It is not perfect, sometimes it does not pronounce things just right, but still, to be able to work around the house for hours listening to a good book, that to me is very well deserving of those four stars, oh yes!

Seems like it could be good. You really can't tell if the app is worth purchasing since the promo videos don't even give a great example of how well the app reads. This free app will only read the first page, normally just the book cover. From what I heard it seems to read well but I'm not inclined to spend $5, test it, and then ask for a refund if it's not satisfactory.

At long last my wish for iPod comes to fruition. When the very first iPod came out I contacted the creator of a tts program, asking that he develop an app for iPod. He politely refused due to then-stringent restrictions at Apple. Now, at long last, somebody created the app I have desired for so many years. It works great.

Great app. I hate reading and this app makes it a lot easier to enjoy reading while listening at the same time. Easy to use. Has some misread words and doesn't know how to slow down between title and paragraphs but it's manageable to adapt to it. Other than that it's a great tool for all your PDFs and books/textbooks in PDF format.

Works well enough, makes my drive time useful. This app is perfect for consuming long, droning contract language while driving. Super helpful. Its gets a bit confused around bullet points and formatting ("group of underscore...") but totally understandable. $5 ain't much to bring value to hours of driving.

"Free" is a LIE. The app is a complete misrepresentation. It is not free. The only thing you got to listen to for free are there couple of PDF that they will read for you. Don't get me wrong. I buy up all the time. What an upgrade is warranted and a product has shown that it is doing the job it was designed to do, I am the first one to purchase it. But I get very ticked off, as do many others, what an app advertises itself is free but is as useless as a brick unless you pay for it. It's false advertising, it destroys my trust and there's no way I will ever purchase something that starts off as a scam.

Having to re-purchase the English voice. I purchased the English voice on March 13th, 2018. Now, August 19th 2018, I’m asked to purchase the English voice again. Emailed support in the app and the email address is unknown and not available to connect to someone to help solve this issue Fixed the issue by deleting then reinstalling... given the option to restore purchase.

Does not work. Like the previous person said, the free reader is not free at all before you can use it, it demands that you pay 4.99 for the language of your choice. But it gets worse, once you purchase it, it does not work!! I have purchased this unusable piece of crap for nothing! The program will follow the words on the document as if it is trying to read it but their is no voice reading the words aloud for you. So I guess if you want a 4.99 digital finger to read along with you its worth it....then again it does that for free!!

To anyone that rated this a 2-3 learn to read. This app is everything it says, I wish it could pick up anywhere on the page... But hey it reads to you on and off the app... And honestly from someone who furthers my education constantly, and can learn off PDFs all day while doing something else like working. Best 5 bucks I've ever spent...

Great for Dyslexics. For college I was given tones of PDF files to read and being able to listen to them without the hassle of the other software (read write gold 10) is great. I love this app and makes my life 10x easier!

Many missing features and weird intonation. The app does not allow you to test it for a while before you buy it, there are many better options available. There are features missing, the most important being selecting where the app should read in a page. Also, the intonation is not natural, and following the reading is a burden instead of helpful.

FEW UPDATES AGO!. This app used to be great! I used to recommend to everyone at work, but now even thou I bought the language, with the last few updates it doesn’t work, it won’t even let me buy it again... Which I was going to do since it was pretty good! I also tried to get in touch with the developers but no success! Hopefully they fix it soon, or it will just be another useless up and my money going to waste!!

Purchased voice gone. I loved this reader until it was updated and now I have to repurchase the voice ALREADY PURCHASED well I realized later that the buy option -would unlock the app -so I hit the buy and then it unlocked my voice that was very confusing on the (BUY) the app knew I had already purchased and unlocked my voice without a repurchase

Not perfect but not sure another solution is better. App is does what it says and reads a PDF. Voice is ok. Search feature does not pinpoint where it is in the doc, but rather puts you in the ballpark of where it is. The redbox changes dimensions and jumps all over screen, would be better to just have a yellow highlight

Average if it were 1999. Very disappointing 2014.. I downloaded the app to listen to a friend's book. I paid the 4.99 for the English reader. Unfortunately the app is very limited. It skips entire paragraphs. There is no way to fast forward or rewind. Several times I wanted to listen again to a certain passage. But I could not set the cursor to the beginning of the desired text. I could only listen to the entire page again. It served its purpose this time. However, in the future I will look for other options.

Good app. Recent improvements make all the difference! Now it remembers your page, and keeps working in the background or when the screen is turned off. I can read faster than the app, but getting through an 800 page book for school while doing chores around the house is a game changer when studying.

Good app!. I got this app to help with my studies as I have to read a lot of material for college and a lot of that material barely holds my attention. I recommend this for students who have a tough time sitting down to read. It has helped a lot! No problems with the app, however, it may benefit for some smoother voices. At times it sounds a little unnatural but it gets the job done.

Pretty Good. I first bought the app to help edit rough drafts of things I had written, and boy oh boy does it help a lot. I have to say, it is a little annoying that the voice pauses inbetween pages, and there's a glitch where it skips over any "fi"s in the pdf (example: figure becomes gure) But it keeps the formatting and font type unlike other apps I've seen.

Not worth the $. This app is not worth the $4.99 it cost to download! The voices sound completely distorted and the speed adjustment helps very little. I downloaded this app in hopes of listening to documents as I rad along or completing other tasks while listening and cannot get over how bad the app sound. This is a great app in theory but it needs major updates before being considered even average in my book. I wish I could get a refund...don't risk it!

Have the developers tested this?. I did the work I wanted, it read through the article, but the work is so poorly done. The artificial reader didn't identify many basic vocabulary and mispronounce them in funny ways, and it reads 1960s like a thousand nine hundred and sixty seconds, I wonder if the developer of the app seriously tested out for one single article before they released to App Store? I'm willing to pay for a delicately designed PDF reader, but this?

It works great. It is much improved over previous versions. The only problems that I have run into are getting it to stop reading and getting it out of full page mode so that I can access the buttons at the top of the window. Previous versions used to stop reading whenever they wanted to.

Misleading. I'm disappointed in this app. I have no problem paying for apps but this gives you the idea it's free. As soon as you find the item you want to read aloud, it states its $4.99 to purchase speech! Why didn't it just say that from the beginning? It serves no purpose to me without the speech working. So for that reason I am going to find another paid app that is upfront about costs. And judging from others reviews its not even worth purchasing. It doesn't even let you try it at all. I am deleting this app as soon as I post this.

Has issues. Yes, they try to rip you off if you get the ver and just click through. I do like how it keeps the PDF as a PDF instead of converting it to a notepad style like others do (keeps the pictures and graphs). It does read footnotes which is annoying. Not worth the money but alot better than the other 2 I bought. If more voices it would be worth it.

Excellent App!. Probably the best $5 I've ever spent in my life! It makes reading a whole lot easier. I am in school so I find it very helpful to listen to my books while commuting. It doesn't always let me change the pronunciation of words. Which can be annoying sometimes but overall, I am pleased!

The best for the task. This app gets 5 stars because it is stable and reads text better than anything else out there. It has become indispensable on my phone. Only snags: Wish I didn't have to choose language on every doc. Getting it to pause can be a challenge by times.

Really good app. This is my first review after years of using apps. His app really helps. Read a 500 page pdf in just over 5 hours. I've been trying to just read it for a year. Without this apps help I would have never finished it or understood it this well. It would have been nice for it to be up front about the purchase. Or even let you have a 10 minute sample. Would be 5 if can store more than 70 books. Hi! I loooove this app! Only downside is that ithas a limit on how many books you can store. I am a nursing student and have lots of files to know! Hope you can fix this. And for future updates, im hoping maybe you can create folders to put certain files together, oh and it would be nice if u can highlight something and be able to see its definition...thanks!

Fantastic app!. It's taken years to find an app that does everything I need to do. I use this app not only for personal use, but for work and school as well. I love reading, but can't do while I commute, this app enables me to entertain myself, while enabling me to get through boring technical material I need to read for work and school.

Decent, after troubleshooting. Originally, I said it was terrible because it read spaces into all of my words for some reason. I emailed. If yeah doc as rtf, remove all formatting, and then pert to PDF, it avoids that problem. I drive a long distance for work so I plan to use it to continue reviewing my notes while driving for school.

Excellent App. This is the best voice reader application that I have found to date not only does it show you the text in which it is reading but it also allows you to change abbreviations into words so that you can understand what you are reading

Great App, a Few Tweaks Needed. In general this is a great app. However, a couple of tweaks are needed. First and foremost, I need a way to display the titles in my library more clearly. I simply cannot read the titles of the books and have to tap on each one to see its title. Second, I cannot figure out how to make it stop reading the header and footer on each page. That function is supposedly there, but I cannot do it. Third, I need a way to delete changed pronunciations. Otherwise, though this meets my needs very well. It reads to me in the car while I'm driving on my long commute, so that time is no longer wasted.

Pretty Good product. When it reads PDF,s files it reads the foot note on each page and all the descriptions of the graphs. There should be an auto feature to automatically skip these options. It's annoying to hear the page and chapter name each page. It would be worth $4.99< if it had those features! Instructions were clear and easy setup

Alternative learning. I buy this app for many of my apple devices, I gave shelves of learning books that I cannot get on audio, plus you can mirror off your apple for screen view reading, quiet reading with productivity meaning the oafish turn for you and best of all take the font to a big siZe.

Nice App. I went ahead and paid for the full version and it works great. The voice is so much more fluid and natural than so many other apps. I really like it and I use it a lot. One thing I wish it did have was the ability to highlight or mark on the page.

Excellent PDF Reader. I use this app daily and find it works very well. The ability to change cadence of reading is simple. Stop the app (tap the screen once) before exiting and it always remembers where you left off.
