We - the public can make our own determination of what we won’t to trust and call news & Goid Information. Not hyped up stories pushing your One sided game plan. Do t try to influence or change the store to make one side or the other sound it’s being played. That’s why I get part of my news from Civil Beat Honolulu. And all the other local News secondary to them. They stand out to have the balls to call out the local Government, when they see problems with Fare and honest values. Fact finding points and Put the feet to the fire, on obvious problems. Not the attempt to bury real news ! And throw in a Happy / feel good story. Save that for the dumpster!!

Is that an ad or a news article?. Since the last update, it takes an extra click to get to the main headlines and the app seems to have way more ads. It actually makes it tough to distinguish between a link to a news article vs a link to an ad or trash site. However, this is still free and the update brought on some nice styling touches.

Fire person in charge!. Who ever is in charge of this app needs to be fired! I click on a news video on a topic for example a car crash and the video is about a seal giving birth. I click on the rail corruption. The video is about a seal giving birth. The seal gives birth in 6 videos! Does anyone check what’s put on the app before posting? It was funny in the beginning but now it’s irritating. If not for RP I’d delete this app!

Use to have local news category, use spell ✔️, news late.... I like HHN, but... What happened to the local news category? Use spell check, very embarrassing for HHN. News often late... Would find the news on other resources... Does HHN use these resources to... sorry... just sayin...

Loading issues. When I click to open the app - the circle of death starts spinning and I get a failure notification ... I think this started after the most recent update... fix it please... and when I click on a “notification” I never can find the story... HELP

Needs a lot of work. This app has a lot of issues starting with app refresh in the middle of reading an article that causes the app to go to the main page and then I have to look for the article again. Also when an article closes sometimes it’s very difficult to locate especially if I opened the article from a notification so it’s not necessarily on the front page. But my biggest issue is the ads. I don’t mind ads but when you hide an ad in the guise of a legit article that’s messed up. I saw an “article” about improving blood glucose in diabetes only to find out it’s a scam ad for a scam video to get me to buy a scam book. For a news local news app I would hope they wouldn’t try to sucker us for a couple bucks

New version has problems. This most recent version has many issues. (I have iPhone) I like the new style and story list but there are problems with the App. The Ad that pops up when you open it takes forever to close. When you are looking for “Breaking News” alert info it’s so irritating. I have “1” notification bubble that NEVER goes away. I wanted to share an article but the icon to share doesn’t work. It seriously needs improvement. I’ve followed HNN for a long time but I’m about to delete the App…

Where’s the article?. I see others with the same complaint but it’s still not fixed. A notification for a story pops up. Tapping it doesn’t get you to the story — it just opens the app. And most of the time the story isn’t there at all under latest news until sometime later. If I’m really interested I do a google search and read it elsewhere. I’m not surprised given the comedy of errors on the evening newscasts.

Frustrating app. I give it two stars just for existing. But it’s annoying when I get a notification for news and when I click on the notification it takes me to the app but nothing about that article is there. This happens the majority of the time. Even if I click on “News” the article usually isn’t appearing there either. When someone gets a notification of a news bit, shouldn’t clicking on it take you directly there so you can read it? This means the news on this app is very delayed and not in sync with the notifications. Please fix!

Notifications-I totally agree with tfyoder1 !!. The tile on the homescreen (like many other apps) has a red circle with a number in it showing you your number of notifications. However, UNLIKE most other apps, opening the program to see these notifications immediately shows you a giant ad, followed essentially by “Go fish”! There is no easy way to specifically see these notifications. Update Aug. 13, 2021: tfyoder1’s review was a year ago, mine slightly newer. However after a year, NOTHING has been done to correct this behavior and bring the app inline with most others. Reiterating what I said above, the app is quick to throw up a (literal) red flag, then show you nothing but ads. Going to notifications doesn’t help; you still play “Go fish”. I’m lowering my rating and I’m about to delete this “Cry Wolf” app.

Notification Issue. Excellent app, very reliable. I got an emergency notification from here before the alert went out!!! The traffic updates are also very timely. I used to have an issue with the articles not opening from the notifications but it seems like it was fixed.

This a business ap, not a news ap. When you open the ap you have to sit there and watch 3 commercials before you can see any news. Then, some of the “news stories” aren’t news, they are ads written like news articles and embedded next to news articles. You think you are clicking on a news story but it’s just an ad for a product written like a news article. What a scam....

Unable to watch. Rarely leave reviews On both my iPad and iPhone, previous version(s) of the app would allow me to have the live news streaming while working with different apps on my devices. Only noticed that HNN is either on or off after upgrading devices to 16.5 and HNN app to 7.0.8. Any help if it’s a missed setting would be greatly appreciated

Aloha Spirt. I enjoy reading and keeping up to date with what is happening in Hawaii. I have been saddened watching the changes on the beautiful island. Hawaii being run by Democrats. High taxes, crime. We are heading back to Hawaii now and in January and that will be our last time. Your Senator Hirono was an embarrassment and not very smart. Definitely no Aloha for her and a sad example. We have been coming to have for 30 years and it is just not the islands we use to know!

too many notifications. My notifications are set for Breaking News only, but I keep getting all of the ridiculous ones about whatever someone decides is the top story for every hour. I don’t want anyone or need to be notified about the new robot at the library or whatever someone has decided is the top story of the half hour.

Not updated with relevant information. News alerts that pop up on phone can’t be found at app site. Currently, updates regarding the weather and traffic are not available but only set weather statements. On Monday, I was stuck in traffic coming from town to Kailua for four hours. I relied on My Kailua and Waze. The app didn’t indicate that the H-3 Kaneohe was backed up by 2 1/2 hours. It also didn’t indicate that Kalanianaole was closed between Castle Junction and Castle Hospital due to a tree falling on an ambulance Kailua bound or to get to Maunawili you had to go through Olomana. Also, did not see any police directing traffic. On the plus side, the weather forecast for the evening program (Jennifer Robbins - 5 star) is more detailed and easy to understand.

Notifications but no article.. Several times a day I get notifications for news story but when I click the notifications it simply opens the app to a few ads but no article. I search the app and even load up your site on my desktop and I cannot find the articles. It’s very frustrating and confusing. Please fix this.

Breaking news never works. I get notifications from this app but they never work for me. Clicking on the notification opens the app, immediately shows me an ad, I close the ad, then it shows me another ad, I close that ad and then it takes me to a streaming page that never loads. The notifications for breaking news is worthless to me since it has never worked. I’d like it to work but can’t seem to figure out why it’s like this. Completely useless as it stands right now.

Opens safari when I get notifications. I use the app daily for all my news and weather updates. When I get an update and click on it it opens a safari window with a screen that has nothing in it. I want to know if you can get rid of that. It’s useless. It asks me to open the app to get live streams and updates.

What a crappy app!!. I get alerts from HNN. If I click on the alert, the app loads. It shows an ad. If I click the upper right “x”, the ad disappears and another ad loads. When I click on the “x”, that second ad closes, and takes me to the main menu which shows a bunch of panels for various categories of news. So which one contains the story I wanted to read? Who knows? I select the main panel. No story accompanying the subject of the alert exists. What a waste of time !!

Constant Negativity. Hawaii News Now is the most negatively geared news network I’ve ever watched and I’ve lived in 7 states. Every headlines purpose is meant to scare, worry or anger the follower (ie. cops get off in court but taxpayers will foot the bill for civil defense, with relaxed protocols and covid on the rise people want more regulation, etc.). This platform should attempt to protect the people, address and fix problems while putting smiles on people’s faces throughout the day. SHAME ON YOU, HNN. You are on the wrong team.

Functional but very irritating. I’m sorry, but since the March 7 launch, the updated app became unworkable and downright irritating. I can not remove the red alert ball on my iPad nor iPhone home page. No matter what I open or clear, it is constant, unless I turn off notifications. HNN was my primary source of bulletins, but not anymore until you fix that. I even deleted the app and reloaded it, more than once. Having to wait and clear an ad just to enter the app is a huge frustration, and half the time when I hit the settings button I go to an unwanted full page ad. In short until you fix these issues the app is a hot mess and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Horrible. I get a notice of a story and cannot get to it through your horrible app. I understand the desire to place ads all over your app but you have way too many and often your app just dies as I try to maneuver through all the garbage. Have you tried it? This is not just once in awhile. It’s every single time! Why I keep trying I don’t know. It frustrates me more and more. I was born and raised in Hawaii. I want to be proud of my state. This is so bad I don’t even refer anyone to use it.

The New Version Is Worse Than The Original. I don't write negative reviews of apps, but in this case I must make an exception. Following the rewrite of this app in mid 2018, it has been much worse to use than before. Now, it is not even possible to click on an image and zoom in on it; videos do not play properly and sometimes even cause the app to forget which page you are on (when an unexpected full-page pop-over ad covers over the top of the player and the article and block everything, which you can only dismiss by clicking on a small X at the top of the advertisement which then loses your context in the app); and also the front page listing of all of the stories is much more long-winded now whereas before it was a nice simple list of headlines which you could easily select. It's a shame that what could've become a much better app has actually gone from a five star to a three star app in my opinion. I would say try another Hawaii news app (I have gone back to the KITV4app for now) and keep this one on the side in the hopes that it will be improved at some point in the future.

App is too difficult. I like the fact that I get notified of happenings, but I hate the fact that once I tap on the notification I can’t find it anywhere in the app. So basically I know something happened I just don’t know what or where to find out wha happened…at least not in the app. I got phone a friend or ask another news station. Of course it could be that I’m just not tech savvy 🤷🏻🤷🏻‍♀️🤯😡

Hard to navigate & mostly ads. Highly recommend just using the HNN website over this app—since the last redesign it seems slower and filled with even more ads. The news content itself, which is of high quality, annoyingly seems to be randomly thrown together in one place with little to no strategy for viewers to easily find they’re looking for. If all you want to see the latest video surf/weather update, you must either use their website or spend 15 minutes of searching & watching ads on their even worse HNN weather app.

The stars are for content.... The app on the other hand makes me crazy. I know HNN is a good source for local news, but the app is seriously glitchy. It doesn’t keep track of where you’ve scrolled, so if you read an article, it’s a crapshoot whether it will pop you to the top or save your place when you come out. Also, too many of the alerts redirect from the app to a web browser for live updates. 1) Those videos have played for me maybe twice and after an ad, so if someone is speaking live, I miss part of their speech. 2) I’m not always in a place where I can listen to audio.

Disappointing update. We had an update a few days ago. The layout looks cleans but there’s an ad every single step of navigation. Also - catching up on stories in order to clear red notifications bubbles takes so long now. I would recommend uninstalling and going to back to watching the news on tv.

Hardly ever works. Live streaming is very iffy on firestick. Just couldn’t get it to play live at all. It would play 3 commercials skipping through and then jump back to the app picture without playing any news. Horrible. Would start then jump back to HNN home screen. Frustrating. Rven on iphone, sometimes works sporadically or not at all. Last 2 days, not at all. Hopeless!

Invest in Better App Developers. This app truly deserves zeros stars for its watch live and notifications. The watch live is based on a browser and I constantly have to refresh it to get it working - it does not seem to play nice with iOS. The commercials will also come on at random times and then I will need to refresh again to get the live content, if I am able to at all. Traffic notifications will also not bring up any content if you click on them. It will bring you into their app to the traffic page, but there will be be mention of the accident/incident they notify you on. The notifications are worthless since there is a line limitation and their message gets cut off.

Please add Waikii to radar!. Big Island needs more representation- it's not easy to contact Y'all- our weather is much different than Kamuela, we are at 5000' and it would be appreciated if we can get accurate weather

So disappointed. I love Hawaii News Now on TV but this app is terrible. Soooo many ads to click through compared to other news apps. I just clicked on a story supposedly about a Kaneohe grandmother. Being a Kaneohe grandmother this was particularly interesting to me - but no, it was another advertisement clothed in a “news story.”To get the weather there are often 10 clicks just to the temperature- come on! Why not charge for the app and give us a good one?

Hawaii News Now is an All Star. With family on Maui and our being in SoCal, this app brings such peace of mind. We are able to keep up with all pertinent news and weather concerning our land of Aloha. Using this app helps keep our love of Hawaii just that much closer to our hearts. It also helps us know what our Hawaiian family is experiencing. We love the app🤙🏽❤️

Full In Depth News Coverage. When I wanted the best full in-depth news coverage by knowledgeable people on the ground about the Maui wildfires, specifically the extent of the actual devastation of Lahaina, what is gone and what remains, where the Lahaina townspeople are, and how to effectively and realistically help - I went to Hawaii News Now! You can trust the hometown News people and their news coverage! The legacy media? Not very much!

Wow what a piece of junk. This app is pretty awful. First of all the grammar and spelling mistakes rampant in the articles are laughable. When you download the app to read some news or watch a video. You have to watch an advertisement. EVERY TIME!! Sometimes the app freezes after the advertisement then you have to close the app and watch another 15 to 20 second advertisement. Not to mention along the bottom of the app you’re constantly getting spammed with pop-ups advertising the latest nonsense. This app is more about generating money and cash flow than actually presenting you with news and information.

Flash news not linked to a story. When I get a new news advisory on my iPhone or iPad, clicking on it does not get me to the rest of the story like other news apps. Is there a setting to get access to this story line when I click on the short pop up advisory? My newspaper apps both do it. Yours gets me to an add and often times searching for the rest of the story is fruitless.

Notifications Still An Issue. Notifications Still An Issue. It’s been YEARS and they still haven’t fixed their notifications issue. A notification banner will pop up in your phone but when you press it to open on the app to read more, it DOESN'T direct you to the article. The only reason the app is being downloaded yet it still hasn’t been fixed. It’s the only reason I deleted it.

The most frustrating news App!!. The app notifies you in real time with news updates and breaking news but when you click the notification link, it does not take you to the story and the story cannot even be found anywhere in the app until much later. There is another review with the same feedback from 3 years ago which means they have NOTHING to fix this issue. Terrible app, needs lots of work!

Issues with the app. I have been experiencing issues with this app recently. Possibly caused by an update. As far as I can tell, the app now appears to be continuously updating in the background. The battery consumption charts show the background activity of this app is through the roof, accounting for more then 60% of my phones total power consumption. Outdrawing more power then actively used streaming apps based on time used. The streaming apps are only being used for a limited time, as opposed to this app continually being on in the background. Even with background app refresh being turned off, it is still doing things in the background and burning a ton of battery power.

Frustrating App. Whenever I click the latest update notification it takes me to the app but the latest update is never there. I see part of the notification so I tap it, the app opens up, but the story/news related to the notification doesn't exist. For example, a traffic update notification takes me to the app, to the traffic section but it's all old news like from days ago.

App keeps freezing, too many ads. Too many ads, especially the articles with videos. I expand the videos so I could watch it sideways & comfortably on my mobile device, then the video freezes. The app then freezes & it won’t let me minimize the screen. I’m always having to close the app & open it again. Same problem occurs. Happens every single time. It’s not my phone b/c it happens with everyone else’s smart phone. Do a better job, Hawaii news now.

The most horrible news app. I have downloaded then eventually deleted this news app so many times; more than I care to remember. I am finally giving up and deleting it for good! I have been patient over so many years hoping to see the HNN app developers fix it and see improvements! This is the crappiest most useless news app. It’s an abysmal fail. I can’t find news articles and when I get a notification and I immediately click on it should take me directly to that article but it doesn’t. I get a big page ad covering the entire screen and I can’t find the news. In fact I can’t find any news at all. When I finally find articles I can’t find the article specific to the notification I just received. I have many other news apps for national and worldwide news and it’s so simple. I’ll have to find a different app to get my local news. Here’s a tip….check out the other news apps and take a lesson.

Unpleasant user experience for me- UPDATE. I find that the app can sometimes be useful but more often than not it will waste my time. I’ve inquired repeatedly about why I get an alert on my phone and when I click on it it does not take me to the related news article. I’ve NEVER received a single response. Furthermore when I search throughout the app for the related news article it’s never to be found. The search feature only finds information from weeks and months past. Instead I am bombarded by pop up ads and the like that are entirely irrelevant. Occasionally I’ll find the story I’m looking for and have interest in but invariably I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time and effort chasing “breaking” news alerts that are never to be found. I’ve learned to no longer attempt clicking the alert and simply go to another news source to find the info. This app is entirely deletable. *UPDATE* This app was just updated coincidentally along with an iOS update. What a vast improvement! Every thing seems to flow without the nuisances I have previously noted above. I believe that this is now going to be a news source that I can depend on and can easily navigate through.

Not great; Notifications don’t actually open news story. I have many complaints abt this app one of which is when I get a notification abt a breaking news story and try to tap it to read the story, it acts like it’s going to open the app initially but then immediately switches to open a webpage with all the top stories, and I can never find the one I was trying to read about. Plus weather info is limited and no Doppler map option. Come on HNN app developers, you can do better.

New unimprovements !. I have used this app for years, but questioning whether to continue. The supposed new upgrades have left me baffled. Being offered categories of the content isn’t new but the ability to read a piece and return to the list is non existent. It goes back to the the opening and requires multiple clicks to start over after EVERY article read!? There is no return click available, it feels like a devolution to use it. So drawn out to go through the chosen category that I will likely drop this app. It has changed but not upgraded!!!

In the know like never before. The up to date notices catch my eye through the day and night. A quick glance at headlines alerts me to issues near and far which affect me and my loved ones. Often my curiosity is piqued and I delve in to learn more. If live video is slow or unavailable due to my location and connectivity, I read the articles. I notice updates are frequently added to keep us informed and entertained with the latest and most accurate accounts of issues as they unfold. It’s become one of my most used apps.

I cannot share any of the links anymore. Why???. I have love this App since it came out. All of the sudden I am unable to share any of these links from the App. I had deleted the App then reinstalled it through the App Store. Still nothing will work. I have to go online to the website to email what I want to myself or a friend. This is so frustrating!!

Frustrating- Push Notifications links to Web Live Stream instead of app. Please FIX HNN Push notifications : Very frustrated with behavior of screen push Notifications links to unrelated stories on Web Live Stream instead of specific story on HNN phone app itself ... no options to change preferences to have push notifications to open the story within the app. It’s been this way since I installed it in 2015... please fix this!!!!

When are the notifications going to point to the actual story?. If I see something interesting pop up in my notifications from this app, I usually end up having to Google the issue in my browser instead. Another issue I have are sports games being spoiled. Don’t tell me who won or what the final score is. The notification could easily read “tap here to find out who won the game between X and Y”. Need to delete this app during Olympics because “USA win” results in “breaking news”.

Notification links have never worked!. Notifications sent to the iPhone do not link back to that article in the iPhone app. This has been the case for years and has never been fixed. It would be nice to be able to tap on a notification and be taken to the app where the full text of the article may be found.

Wtf!. Ur app completely changed tonight n it sucks! Like come on! Ur previous app was just fine. I could read the news without getting angry, now - just angry!

Notifications access nothing. I receive Hawaii News Now notifications constantly on my iPad and when I see news of interest, I tap to open and it takes me to to either a video screen that won’t play or to yesterday’s news show or something completely off topic. This app is not useful or helpful or informative and it’s getting deleted now.

Worst update ever!!. This last update has too many ads, slow loading of content, glitchy. The biggest problem is that you go to settings to increase text size. I tap the desired size and the the apple fails to make that change. Not a good app for the Blind or Visually impaired. Please correct these issues. Thank you. FYI the app worked great before the last update.

Hmmm. Now I get notified of news updates but I have no idea where they are. The app opens to a bunch of choices. Why doesn’t it open to the “news” update that has just been sent out to notify.

New HNN app. Don’t like the font, looks too business like, serious & boring. Wish they would stop all the video ads. The same, long ads play and it’s annoying. What happened to the ‘Trending ‘ news reports? And strange news? Miss those

Newest update. Updated the Hawaii News Now app to the latest version and my app keeps crashing as soon as I open it. I like the app, it's my source of news. Please fix this issue. Currently using an iPhone 6s plus with iOS 12.3.1. Thanks!

Great for Notifications, Mediocre App. Notifications are great and timely but if you click the motivation and the app loads, maybe a quarter of the time you actually get the story of the notification. Usually it goes to a video clip (after a 15 sec commercial of course) of some random snippet of an unrelated news broadcast. Bottom line: Install for the notifications, find news articles elsewhere.

From first to worst. I gave the new HNN app a one-star rating only because there isn’t a zero star icon. It went from being one of the most used apps on my iPhone to being totally deleted in its new form. It’s not often that a website is easier to use than an app, but this is the case here. The new app hangs during the launch process, and no amount of deleting and re-installing makes a difference.

Terrible app, great notifications. Notifications come in faster than any other local app but the app is completely useless. I’m always wanting to read more about what happened but the app just opens up a video with no text to read or gets stuck at the Home Screen. Really disappointing. Family and friends all feel the same way.

Poorly design lackluster approach offer little or no guidance As to its content and maneuverability. I have given up looking at this app and had to switch to CNN or Fox News to get information though I live in Hawaii. The most unfortunate aspect of this is that there is now no easy access for acquiring information about what’s going on in Hawaii.

Too much negative news. This is definitely not a place to look at the news if you are looking to have positive feelings after viewing it. There is too much bad news, a lot of it dated and a lot of it having nothing to do with Hawaii. Sites like this have caused me to stop going to any news sites - too depressing. HNN could do a lot better job if they focused on all the great people here and things they are doing here in Hawaii. I would rather see a site with 80/20 good news to bad and the ability to filter out negativity if desired. There seems no emphasis on the digging into good news stories. You guys can do a lot better!

HNN app is great!. I listen every morning to the early podcast while getting ready for work. It is very helpful as I am not able to see/hear the tv while getting ready. Mahalo for add HNN podcasts.

Heads Up - Not Functioning. App has not been functioning lately. Bit frustrating when I get an update, click on it, and the page doesn’t load. Updated the app. Still no dice. Open the app, click on an article and doesn’t load.

A step back. Takes at least 45 seconds to load the app (often longer) and the headline fonts are now huge. Need to click on the story to see the full headline (maybe this is by design to get “clicks”). Not happy with this version

Stuck in loading when launching the app. It started around the time their set renovation was complete April/May 2021. weird, I know but is it coincidental??? I can’t get beyond the initial blue loading screen after all the typical easy fixes. So now I’m stuck with out it. I hope it fixes soon, I’ll wait a bit and update my review if this gets fixed. Until then, it forces me to go elsewhere for my news. Lame!

Impossible to watch live. I appreciate that the app keeps me updated with notifications but it’s nearly impossible to watch live. After streaming for less than five minutes, it completely freezes & won’t restart even if I pause to let it buffer & this is happening on LTE. Please fix this issue to make this app useful.

Have to because it’s hometown. Awful just awful updates infrequent and rarely any new info. Plenty misspellings-shocker I know-and every story is tied to some video thread. App itself is glitchy - just poor - similar to sports radio here - just bad, like not good. Have to be tethered as it’s my hometown. Sad I have to rip on it but let’s have some pride in product. You’re Hawaii News Now for gods sake. Not Hawaii Kinda Sorta y’know. Impress me and inspire your community.

Aloha Kia Commercial Messes With the Apple TV App. Soooooooo many Aloha Kia commercials when you start the app on Apple tv which causes the playback to glitch. I swear I watch that guy & his dog Beanie way too much, more than the actual news! I have to restart the app 2-3 times because the all mighty Aloha Kia commercial has to always play before the livestream starts. I don’t know how much that company is paying for that but dang, it is messing the app up!

Waste of time. The app sends notifications and when I click on them, the app NEVER opens to the news story which was the subject of the notification. I waste a lot of time looking for news articles. This app needs some serious fixes.

Go to News Island Source. This is my go to news source for everything on the islands. The app has tons of good features too. I highly recommend.

Latest App Update not good. I have really liked the HNN app and watch live news coverage every morning, but they just updated it and changed the format. Now it is sterile and difficult to use. Where is Sunrise and some of the other special coverages? Also less pictures and videos. Go back to the old format!

Problem with this app. The app sends me notifications on articles but when I click on it an ad pops up and I can never find the article it mentioned. I’m close to deleting the app as a nuisance. It seems they’re more interested in me seeing ads than the news I’m interested in.

Buffering and glitches. Happy to be able to get the news where it's convenient. However, this app buffers a whole lot. Every time I open a new video when notified; it either doesn't play, buffers a whole lot, or glitches while someone is speaking.

To Many Ads. This app has too many ads. I get the notifications but everytime I click on it to read about it, I get an ad, it plays, then nothing. I don’t even get to read any of the news I get notified about. I try searching for it an can no longer find it. So I give up each time. This app needs a lot of work

Doesn’t work all that well. I like getting notifications about new events from my HNN app. However, when I click on the notification it never and I mean never goes to the story mentioned, just opens the app. That is frustrating. Optics on the site are great but all bang not so much buck as even the stories are often poorly written and often only a little bit longer than the headline!

30 second wait is too long. I used to prefer the HNN news app over KHON2, But not anymore. In the beginning I could see updates on news notices immediately; but then I had to navigate the website to find the news article. The last straw was when I have to endure a 30 second commercial to read further “breaking news” notifications. Ugh!

Horrendously Greedy App!. The newest version of the app, in its haste to extract advertising revenue from eyeballs, forgot it’s primary purpose is to deliver the news. The app is buggy and doesn’t go where you point it and keeps putting advertisement obstacles in your way. I tried to make it work—the station is a good source of local news. I eventually deleted the app and surrendered to Google News. Did you really have to be so greedy?

Alert with no story. It’s frustrating when you receive an alert about an unfolding story and you can’t find the story anywhere. Seems like when you click on the alert it would take you to to story. Nope, just advertisements. Has so much potential!

Not user friendly. Your new and updated app is not user friendly. It’s difficult to navigate, and often times brings me back to the main screen where I have to re-navigate back to whatever article I was reading. Also, the ads are relentless.

No push notifications anymore!. After the new software update, I havent been receiving notifications. I thought maybe it was my new upgraded iPhone XS, so I deleted the app and redownloaded the app, and still it doesn’t work. I Checked my phone notification settings AND also within the app alert settings and all are switched ON. I’m frustrated and annoyed bc I’m dependent on alerts for any important news updates in my area. Pls fix it now.

Annoying. The app is good keeping people updated and when something happens BUT when the notification pops up about a story and you touch it to read the story you are most of the time lead to the homepage; and the story you wanted to read isn’t even on there! So annoying.

Issues with new app design etc. Who ever designed the new format on the app wasted a lot of time. We use to view the app 3-4 times a day. Now it’s once every 3-4 days. We’re now looking for another source for our Hawaii News. Hoping there will be a change in the future.

Videos not synced to the article. It would be nice if the video playing is synced to the article title. The video is just the news all over from the beginning. Could it be edited to just show that report specific to the article?

Terrible app. Streaming never works right.. This app has always had a problem with streaming but it usually worked for a while. Now they’ve broken it once again so that all you see is the KGMB logo and a spinning circle. Fix it! There are so many other apps that do streaming right - get them to do your streaming because you can’t seem to.

Good but needs a way to filter alerts. I live on Maui yet I get traffic alerts from the freeways on Oahu. The app should have a way to turn that off. Instead I had to disable all news alerts which limits the usefulness of the app.

Looks like the nee app is a flop. Like everyone else used to go to this app multiple times a day but now it’s useless. I get adds pay for the news but if I have to see 5 apps to see the news I want to see the news not go to some broken link or impossible way to even find the news. Like the others will need to now use channel 2 or 4 news app for local news.

Very poor update!. This is the worst excuse for a news app I’ve ever used! The old app was much better. Too many full page ads interrupting the news and site unilaterally reverts back to what is apparently the home page repeatedly... in what appears to just be an excuse to show another ad! Won’t waste my time delineating any more irritants! UGH! I’ll use KHON in the future!

Needs Work. Had this app months ago and I deleted it because it would not open to see the latest news. Downloaded the app a few weeks ago and same thing. Half the time app won’t open to see the latest news.

Terrible update. This new view is a huge downgrade. It’s hard to see, confusing, not orderly. There are some dates or no dates for articles on the list. The organization and ease of use is terrible. The last version was big, bold, easy to understand and follow. There were far more recent articles and news stories available. This is a jumbled, hard to see, mess!

Get rid of the ads!. Don’t you guys make enough money from your Fox corporate parent ? The old app never forced you to look at ads as soon as you open the app. I also noticed you changed that horrible wallpaper behind the logo. Baby steps! I won’t be using this any more if you don’t get rid of the intrusive advertising.

APP. The app is worst than before. Also we don’t get many updates during the weekend. You always say breaking news pop, can’t read of it and when I enter the app it’s not there. I decided to download the other news app to see how they work.

Update is terrible. I used to like the app to get breaking news and to check news. It was simple one touch news. Now you get an advertisement to select top stories followed by another advertisement to click on a story for guess what another advertisement. Click on video and more advertisements.

The Alert Sound 😐. The update came with it’s own alert sound for “important” news. I am not liking it at all; it’s annoying so it is ignored. Otherwise the app is good. May 2021: The latest update is very sluggish downloading. So frustrating! Their Weather app is so much faster. Glad I have another local news app.$

What happened to National News?. It appears that with the recent change in format for mobile devices, the option to read National News has been removed. If all you want is local news, this is it. If you want more, look elsewhere.

Misleading stories that looks like ads.. The way that they put in advertising that looks like real stories is horrible. They shouldn’t have those ads riddled through their app. You can only tell the different if you notice a very small little notice by the top of the picture for the story. As a reputable news agency they really shouldn’t have that kind of advertising in their app.

Brica808 review. I agree completely with this critique! I understand you need ads but when I click on HNN (esp. when it’s “breaking” news why do I see ads/msg saying you’ll be back soon? I can get quicker news from MSNBC, CBS, etc

Hate the notifcations. Had this app for years and rely on hnn for the updated news. What hated most is the notification. Everytime an updated news notification would come up it was send me to a live news link thay has nothing to do with the article. 🤬try to find it in the app and cant find it anywhere! Finally got tired. deleting this and moving to another news company!

Why even send notifications?. The app is good, but every notification of a new headline event simply takes me to the same webpage trying to load a completely unrelated video. A good app, but every notification leads to frustration as it’s just a bunch of work to find the related article.

Notifications are ATROCIOUS. oh you want me to read this article you sent me a notification about? Nope, I’m going to send you to an unrelated page instead. How this app has over 4 stars is beyond me. Notifications has been a problem with this app for YEARS. I finally wanted to write a review because I am tired of this issue not being fixed

Notif’s open in safari, not app. I appreciate the real-time notifications, but when I click on them, they never open in the app. They open up a new window in safari but the story never even appears in safari. I can’t find the story associated with the notifications. Very annoying.
