Retronyms has partnered with industry giants like Akai Professional and Arturia to create some of the Tabletop-Ready Apps, like iMPC, iMini, and iProphet! Using the Tabletop features of time stretching and pitch shifting, you can slice loops and time stretch them to different tempos and pitches in iMPC Pro. You can also use sliced loops from purchased AudioCopy sound packs inside Gridlock and iMPC Pro. Loops from these sound packs will automatically match the tempo of your sessions.

Tabletop is an audio playground where you can create beats, compose songs, mix live, make mashups with samples from your iPod library, and more... the possibilities are endless. Plug the output of a keyboard into a delay to add an echo, or wire it up to a mixer and adjust the pan. Chain up multiple effects to create new and evolving sounds.

FEATURES:
• 43 devices including effects, sequencers, drum machines, and synths
• 14 devices are included for free
• 64 bit audio support

A Major Contender. I initially wasn't getting this app, and now for the life of me I don't know why I didn't understand it. Oddly, after I purchased and worked on Korg Gadget which is also great, I went back and tried Tabletop and immediately it made sense. These 2 apps are probably amongst my favorite music creation apps. Korg Gadget has features, layout, and the automation is less buggy than this app. However, where Tabletop shines is the ability to use apps like iMini and Akai iMP inside and alongside the devices inside and available in Tabletop. Also, the inter-app audio input is a real bonus and the ability to input vocals /microphone is also a plus that Korg Gadget doesn't currently have. So, these are both great apps! Tabletop can be a little limited in terms of how many devices you can use on a given table. I wish these was a way to use more, especially for transitions since the Triggerator is so easy to use. Oh, the ability to have more than one instance of iMini and Akai iMPC running at the same time is just awesome! Keep it coming Retronyms!

constant crashes. basically it's unusable. Retronyms has not put any resources or improvements into this app for years. it's an enormous disappointment.

Best app out there!. I first started with some very generic apps like dj mixer pro with a lot of crashes and updates. A friend of mine said I needed to step up my game and what can I say. This app has it all except for a dj like me I wish it had more features to play live performances but putting together masterpieces is intuitive and fun. I can't wait to see what else the authors have in store and I'm finally excited to be able to collaborate with other musicians. The bundle was only 25 dollars! I started college wanting to be a recording engineer but with limited funds it never seemed possible. Thank you guys for working soo hard and bringing music back into my life. Please though, make the dj set up better so cueing and playing live shows is easier. Peace and love. :)

Doesn’t work. I bought iMPC pro 2. Table top will not recognize my purchase so I click on buy in App Store. Next I get blank app screen which NEVER EVER loads App Store. Seems like it will be a great app if it actually works some day. Running brand new iPad bought new a month ago with latest updates.

Exceptional. I've tried so many (rather expensive) music making apps. I found this when it was $10, went to buy, and it went free. I immediately downloaded! What's included is completely enough for a beginner like me. When I get good enough, I'll buy more devices. As for the bad reviews, I would like to state that the real-life devices are hundreds of dollars. For five bucks or so per virtual device, this is a steal. I love it. I make music in TableTop, then bring it over to DJay and mix it with other songs. Finally, I would like to say that I have never seen another program like TableTop. Anyway, I'm so happy with it! Thanks!

Needs work. The overall idea is fantastic but it is severely lacking the features needed to make it usable. 1st, the "sequencer" is crap. There is no editing at all, no automation.... It's the most limited setup I have ever used. Very disappointing. Do you guys use your own app to make music??.? 2nd, random crashes and projects get corrupted...super fail. Only 1 of 3 projects I have started still functions. To the developers directly: you are on the verge of making the best music creation app on the market, yet the failings above keep this in the "toy" department. Add a real sequencer with automation and piano roll editor, fix the crashing and continue supporting other apps to be used inside tabletop (iMini is fantastic...why no support for Animoog?????) and you will have a usable, professional product. If need be, charge a small price ($9.99). If you implement what's above, I'll gladly pay it and so would others.

So far the best I've heard in virtual analog. Everything you need to make old school electronica is here, but it doesn't stop there, the author has contemporary effects and machines to keep your grooves sounding modern synchronized and tight. Samplers, keyboards, sequencers, glitch machines, delays, reverbs and more, all harmoniously synchronized to the beat. I bought the add ins as package and loved it so much, I even bought ALL the latest machines created by he developer, frankly I'm crazy about the sound this package produces. Now for the bad :( from what ive read in reviews, no audiobus, Otherwise perfecto, you have a winner on your hands. As the iPads power and this app develops mobile musicians have a bright future ahead.

Now hold on.... Lots to get exited about! Multiple matrix sequencers, cool routing interface... Yeah, it's neat and all, but how does it um, you know, SOUND? Well it sounds kinda eh. Just listen to the loop points on some of the keyboard sounds. I was exited about the posibility of several matrix sequencers running at once, but again... I can't find any sounds I like. There are really only a handfull in each of the instruments and it would seem the developers selected them based on personal prefrence rather than making the tool universal. If the sound generation improves I could change my tune on this app. But the way it stands, after you upgrade to the fancy bits, it looks like you will still just have a few sounds aimed at limited styles of music that may be kinda poorly looped. My guess is that they will eventualy try to sell you a grand piano module, an acoustic drum kit module, a vocoder, anolog synth, etc... By the time you are done this could be quite expensive for a iPad app. That's fine really, but it should have started out with a few more essentials. Like a rack of one patch each demo sound modules that you could upgrade. Until we get some better variety in the instrumentation I doubt I will have much use for it because it is just not inspiring me.

Aggrivating. Crashes often. Never been able to buy the device bundle, every time I try the app says "Oops, cannot connect to the internet". Even though I'm definitely connected to the internet - me sending this negative review is proof of that! I guess they don't want my money, and I don't need their upgrade.

Wow.. I'm more of a Rock n Roll guy and this is designed more for electronic musicians. BUT, it is so robust and versatile that I prefer it over other guitar focused apps. There are a few glitches and bugs (don't bother with the Verve, get the Boom Room and the recording audio feature is fairly new with no advanced features yet). But they have done so much with this and it's pretty intuitive. I love that a sequencer is available in almost every device (not in the XOX and not in the TT303). This makes tracking and changing super easy. I hope this stays big and they keep adding and updating features. I echo the opinion that it needs Audio Bus support. That would make it 6 stars.

Producer. This is a very innovative app that has a lot going for it. I have purchased a lot of high dollar equipment and I am completely blown away by the amount of versatility that this app has to offer at such a low price point. I also bought the stand alone IMPC app as well and it a blast to work with. Just the ability to make a DJ rig using tabletop was a real treat for me because there are a lot of DJ apps out there that seem to be limited and have a lot of draw backs. All I had to do was drag in two turntables pick some songs and I had the party started. I also drug in the IMPC emulator and was able to drop in some trill one shots in time to the beat. I highly recommend this app for anyone interested in music and or music production.

Very good app except for 2 things. I love this app to death! However, there are just 2 things in need of repair. 1, the internet connection for purchases. I can’t seem to connect the app to internet no matter how much I try. 2, Using other apps to record and whatnot in this is a little clunky and confusing. I can’t seem to be able to record or transfer anything. Just fix these 2 things and you got a winner!

Great idea, but very buggy on iPad 1. This app is a lot of fun, and it could become a tool that really fosters creativity, but right now it is too buggy to be usable for anything other than messing around (which I suppose is okay). It often freezes so one cannot zoom in to tweak a module, and a number of times the audio has disappeared. The only solution to these issues, I've found, is restarting the iPad. Also, since buying this yesterday, I've created and saved two projects and found after closing and reopening that changes I had previously made were not saved, and in fact some effects I had set up had reverted to their default position. Let's hope the developers can rectify these problems soon, because I like what this app is supposed to do.

Lost my in app purchased plugins. What happened to the auto tune app and all the others that are no longer available?

Fantastic... But with some draw backs. Tabletop is one the best apps that I have used for iPad. It's fun and you can make legitimate music. The only draw back is that you can't use an midi keyboard to control the synths. I understand this would be quite complicated especially when you have multiple synths on the same file (which I do almost every time) but you could at least have a button to press on each synth that you would press when you wanted to control that synth. This would also be great for the drum pad as well. But besides that, this is fantastic. And for only .99 when it's on sale, there is no excuse if you're looking to make real music on your iPad.

Truly epic!. I mainly got this app because I was in search of a good matrix board to play with.. I shrugged at the .99$ price tag and hope it would be worth it.. It completely was! This app has opened my eyes to music production, I have been playing with it for the past 3hours nonstop. I have never touched any type of software like this before, but I am picking up how to use it extremely fast... Can't see why some people are having problems with it, this is now one of my favorite apps on my iPad :) thank you for the awesome deal! Once I master the sound tools I have available currently, I will be buying the extra/add ons.... Amazing app, Not much more to say but I love it

PLEASE FIX CRASHES. HOW IS IT EVERYTIME I START A NEW SESSION OR ANY TYPE OF ANYTHING NOW ON TABLETOP IT CRASHES PLEASE FIX !!! DID DO PAY FOR APP TO CRASH!!!

RS3 patch editor wont work!. It was only a dollar upgrade, but it turned the RS3 into a REAL synth. I cannotaccess the patch editor within tabletop; and standalone version crashes immediately whenever i open it! I really was getting into all the sounds of the RS3 thru the patch editor, but that functionality now seems lost; its no more than a preset bank with ADSR….. WHY?????

This should be better. This could've been AUM.

Great App! *two request though.... This is an absolutely amazing little app and I'd like to thank the developers for making it free! Without being ungrateful, I would have just two requests!! PLEASE add the ability to control the components via midi!! As a musician, I would like to be able to use the app with my outboard gear and trigger it.. USB drum pads, keyboards to control the synths. Secondly, PLEASE add piano roll editing so notes and performances can be edited instead of having to undo or rerecord when a mistake is made. I realize many users use the app live so this may not be as important for them, but for the producer types, this would mean A LOT..time saved is productions perfected!! Thank you for such a great app!

Get this app! Watch the track exports. Out of the box, making a tune is pretty slick, but I was never confident about the export feature. There's the sound you get during production, but the volume meter is deceiving. You'll find out what's clipping during post-production. Some click or pops are too intense. I uploaded (zen) by the pound on SoundCloud (extremely bass-heavy) because of this ah-ha moment, to lower the master volume. Default, it's set to 100 in production, I'd work through a whole track and then route it through M2 and !$&!:)#...it was so bad, that I would route the output through M2 and begin tweaking the individual sounds. Totally kills the workflow. Anyway, dropping the master volume to mid to high 30s gives you low frequencies for the bass in (zen) by the pound. Very excited to put that track together in Tabletop!! The missing star in the rating: I can't dive into a timeline on iMPC or any other device, copy/cut a sound and navigate to a previous or following loop (while staying in the timeline) without the entire app crashing. I save often! Also, after the most recent update with improvements to iMPC, I can see the frame of the standalone iMPC Pro's transport controls on the iMPC in Tabletop. This prevents me from changing sound banks and tracks, it's rough. Now the 3-D Perform button has "Sequence" and "SQ01 Hook" anchored on top, for example. Try to change a track or sound bank means instant crash. Cooold blooded.... Over all, this (app) is the place to be!!! Thx for reading leeonious -update: starting to miss the previous version.. I'm in a good groove and I need to create a loop on the fly. The app crashes. Double tap the home button and I see the session from the night before, which is a different song, all together. After selecting it, I can see the range of tunes that I'm working on. Hope an update comes quick...SAVE often. Or more often, for those that already do make frequent saves.

App is broken, will not open. I have done everything you can to reset my devices as far as using this app and it will not open. screen loads for about 5 seconds and then crashes. closes and goes back to home screen. however the app remains “open” and will not go away without uninstall.

Wishing for an Update. This app is totally cool and has a lot of fun potential.. however, without continued support from the devs, it’s unfortunately become almost useless with modern integration. Fingers crossed they pick this back up.

Dev ghosted. This was a very cool app, I really like the idea behind it. But the devs have totally abandoned this app, it’s been 5 years since the last update, 5 YEARS… it was a beautiful dream, don’t waste your money.

What update just sent causes my app to keep on crashing my auto copy keep on crashing. Now I just updated my app recently our user is at fault coming on over 10 years now but this update is really disturbing. I have four songs completed. I updated my MPC to the pro to and now my app is crashing. My auto copies is removed. what do you do? So now i guests I have to wait for the update to this update wow were someone halfway sleep or under the influence of something when they uploaded this update for us Thee user of the product I’ll be waiting have some work to complete, thank you support 🫡🤔

Best App I've Used. This app is truly amazing! When I first got it, the fact it was only a dollar blew my mind. With that, you get 12 instruments and tools that are easily powerful enough by themselves. Although it takes trial and error at first, it begins getting actually FUN to use. It's not just clicking buttons and making music, it almost becomes a game to mess with. I'm going to be honest, I was hesitant to buy the IAPs, even one, and did avoid it for some time. However, when I did, I was not disappointed. The synthesizer and drum machine are definitely the best the app has to offer. I still mess with combos on there. In general, the app is fun and easy to use, which is a rarity. However, I have two complaints. 1) The workspace seems a bit too limited at times, especially once you get into effects. However, with clever thinking and management, it's tolerable. 2) The IAPs are a bit expensive. 3$ for an effect is slightly overwhelming, no matter how good it is when you have quite a few of them. All in all, this app was more than worth the purchase. Fun, easy, manageable, and powerful with very few drawbacks. Best music app I've touched.

Very good. Impc isn’t on the AppStore anymore but good app otherwise

best music app in the app store!. this app is amazing...it's pretty much the only music app you need on your ipad...i've gotten more done in this app than i have in any of my other apps combined, and i have a lot of music apps...the ease of use combined with the super simple workflow and all the add ons make this my all time favorite music app...and it's FREE!...and all of the in app purchases i've made have been well worth it...the team at retronyms really know what they're doing...keep up the good work!...(the only suggestion i have for the developers is a way to organize my own sounds into folders so it's not one long list...if there's already a way to do that i haven't figure it out yet)

Underwhelming Update. You updated things that support iMPC Pro and you left it in the device store like an available purchase but you removed that app from the App Store and you didn’t even bother to make iMPC PRO 2 available/natively compatible. That would thing makes no sense to me. Also still no AUV3 support? I was excited when I learn a few months ago there was an update coming. I had high hopes now I just disappointed it seems you guys didn’t even grab some of the most oblivious low-hanging fruit. Honestly if I didn’t like the app so much or see the untapped potential it wouldn’t even bother me so much.

Some of us still use this app.. Believe it or not some of us still us this app and paid good money for the plugins, hope the bugs are fixed.

Good thus far. Other than crashing....table top is considered in my book One of the greatest music apps in the iOS world this far very innovative and brilliant

Virtual Studio. Tabletop allows iPad users to have a virtual studio at their fingertips at the fraction of the cost of the real thing. For $60 some odd you can have all additions. A small investment. I own a lot of music apps for the iPad, most of the popular ones. Each has pluses and minuses, but Tabletop is a step above them all. I am a novice and I am hoping to cut my teeth on Tabletop. All of the tools I need are here. I just have to apply myself. I love this app. Update - I have created several songs with Tabletop and find it intuitive to the creative process. The only other apps that compare are NanoStudio and FL Studio Mobile, each having their win strengths. If you're not careful you can end up having all of your songs sound similar with Tabletop, because of the lack of customizable sounds (outside the Gridlock tool). The only thing lacking is a sampler keyboard to use your samples as an instrument. As of this update we are waiting on Tabletop 2.0 to finish the process through Apple to be posted. I will make another update once. I know the new features in 2.0

Good step forward!. Love the jump to 64 bit and the other improvements, but unfortunately I've seen a lot of crashing going on after the last major update. Adding IIA seems to crash the app 90% of the time I first load one, so saving frequently is a must. Once the bugs are squashed it will go back to being one of my top 5 go to iOS music apps.

So much potential here! Was amazing but feels dated now.. When this app came out, it was everything I wanted in a tablet jam station, but the aesthetic, performance and method for instrument integration hasn't remained current. I think if they showed it some love, it could become a welcome alternative to aum- reduce the highly skeuomorphic look a bit, open up compatibility to auv3 and maintain support for the latest screen sizes and it would be truly competitive and appealing to many people. The spatial/environmental metaphor is extremely well-executed and has many thoughtful touches; it is a rare case where the interface adds to the fun of making music, but is still competent and sophisticated. Here's hoping there is a plan for tabletop, it deserves to live on!

VERVE sometimes stops working when exporting (and other nasty bugs). This app is great, but the bugs make it annoying. The reverb bug has been around for at least 3 years and hasn't been patched. With the bug, this means no Tabletop exports will have any reverb unless you use INTERFX with a different reverb effect app or Boomroom The iMini sound also bugs and freaks out sometimes and Tabletop crashes practically every Planck time Thanks

I love tabletop, and retronyms :). this app is so much fun! alot of other apps are such tedium to make a song. this one is a gem. you can quickly throw down a track or spend days working on it. whatever you prefer, this app will let you do it. very fully featured. the imini is really quality, as is impc. xoxbox is really rad too. its all good man just get it and start playing with it, if you're like me you'll quickly realize the potential and want all the extras. i highly recommend getting the bundle, really worth it. I previously left a bad review because of bugs. they seemed more concerned with new features than squashing bugs, but with this latest update, it seems they have corrected many problems, it hasn't crashed yet, and i am thankful they took the time for this bug fix release

Keeps repeating. When I change the block the kind of sound doesn’t change so now my music sounds horrible

Cool app. I think this is a pretty cool app with loads of potential songs to be created with it, and a direct competitor to an app like Gadget. However, on my old iPad 3, it gets glitchy pretty quick (as does Gadget) so I probably won't be able to get much use out of this until I move up to a new iPad. But if you have the latest or recent model iPad, you definitely need to download this.

Amazing. I have used a number of programs like this one before and, for the past 10 years have been an ardent fan of FL studio on PC. However, Tabletop is mind-bogglingly better than anything on the iPad in this genre. It's really unbelievable how easy it is to get a good sound out of this app - and how quickly it happens. Yes, there are purchases. But after playing around with the modules that came with tabletop I *decided* to buy more modules. I was not forced to, and, incidentally, one can do rather amazing things with the bundled modules. However, it is true that every added module adds so much to an already great app. Over time I have bought more and more modules just so that I can experience the awesome :) I'm writing this review specifically due to the fact that I just bought the glitchboard and within minutes I was having waaaaaay too much fun and making awesome music. So, go ahead. Buy it. It pays for itself over and over again...

Amazingly realistic. I like how you have to wire the devices together for them to make sound together. I think that is a brilliant concept, and I hope they expand on it in the future. This has lots of potential. It takes time to figure how to use it, but it’s worth it when you find out how you can make wonderful pieces of art!

They never realized the potential.. I used to use this app a LOT when it first came out and loved the idea of it. Unfortunately they never really tried to refine the app. Everything is almost the exact same except they put half the app behind a paywall, sequencing is way more complex than it needs to be, and their 3rd party app support is nearly nonexistent. It’s a shame - this was my favorite jam station on iPad but now it seems like a halfassed money grab.

Not smooth enough. Too my way or the highway with the design

Must-have if you think of yourself as iPad Music Producer. First off, I'm a heavy and dedicated iPad DAW user, Cubasis (linear) and Korg Gadget (unique workflow). TableTop, which I got first day of it's release, stays one of working horses for my inspiration trigger. Loving the well-thought thru bulk of embedded tool. All sounds and also LOOKS awesome. Perfect integration with compatible apps. Importantly no choking and all solid performance from my fav iMPC, MiniMoog and iProphet. Besides making my music (check SoundCloud - Sam Prock), I'm software programmer, so would naver complain on bugs, which Retronyms not making many and addresses nicely. To be constructive and help the great team grow, I would suggest to look at the way the complete song comes together. The tool power, content and capabilities have overgrown the simplicity of T-101. Triggerator tool revamp is one best area to invest for more usable and better workflow on Tabletop. Five + Stars and keep up great prod Retronyms!

Almost perfect. This app has it all. All the instruments necessary to create music - all on the table. The learning curve is quite low allowing for users to jump right in and begin playing around with sounds. Only one thing stands in the way of it being completely perfect: a non-linear timeline editor. The block sequencer featured helps tremendously allowing for simple arrangements to become a little more complex. The down fall is that it is rather linear. There is no real way to, say, start with the peak of your song than branch out. You more or less have to have the song laid out entirely in your head before you start which hinders the creative and experimental process. Incorporating a nonlinear timeline in it to arrange the loops in whatever way you want would make this the perfect app (and definitely well worth a price bump). To make the editing and arrangement process more visual (waveforms and midinotes and the like) would greatly help!

Needs to Be Updated, Does Does Not Work. I downloaded Tabletop today. Bought the Bundle E at a discount. Purchased XPNDR, and RS4000 and to my surprise they do not work nor do they show up as purchased. One of the synths that I also downloaded, will not show up at all. Every time I try to load it, it refuses to load. I’m running the latest IOS for iPad, the 17.1.1 update. I feel I got ripped off big time. Retronyms Inc you need to fix this or pay me back what I spent. Then and only then will I change my review. Do not let this happen to you. Do not buy this till it’s fixed and updated to the latest IOS for iPad.

Wow!. I can't believe this app is free! I immediately told my buddies after I started playing with it. There's so much that can be done with this. My brain feels like its spinning. Honestly though I don't know a whole lot about music creation but I will say that with zero knowledge this can be so much fun. I'm honestly learning stuff I I would have never known. This is free so you might as well give it a try. You blow through hours of time just experimenting. The developer has my kudos. I hope they do well with this. I may just make an in app purchase to support this. I should add I've used this app multiple time for hours and it hasn't crashed once. I have no idea why some have complained about that.

Needs Audiobus!. Nice layout, but without Audiobus it is way too limited. It is almost as if Retronyms is making its customers choose Tabletop or Audiobus. I think that they can compliment one another, but if I had to choose one over the other it would be Audiobus hands down because of the support from all of the major music app. developers. Update: Still no Audiobus! I also purchased the Akai MPC Fly pad controller for use with iMPC and Tabletop. It works fine with iMPC in standalone mode, but only the pads work with iMPC in Tabletop! None of the 16 control buttons (note repeat, stop, play, erase, etc) work within Tabletop. The stand alone iMPC app. is so crippled that using it within Tabletop is the only way to obtain essential functions, yet the MPC Fly is virtually useless within Tabletop. Not sure what their strategy is, but it is backwards.

Yes!!!. Tabletop is one of my go to apps. So glad that I can use my Wej with it now!

Amazing app. Wonderfully fun iPad music app.

Happy!. This is a nice app to add to my workflo. I haven't had any issues yet. The app is pretty self explanatory. Can't wait to keep making music!

Meh. Definitely not the best free music production app out there but it's something to start and fiddle around with, but the instruction/tutorial is very slack and would leave most newcomers confused, frustrated and bored so it's a meh for me 😐

Nice.... Great app, not for the feint hearted... Serious fun!

Lacking one major component. C'mon retronyms, just add audiobus support and you would solve a lot of complaints with the app. Audiobus is a huge breakthrough on the iOS platform, there is no reason to not include this and improve the app (aside from limiting the application to in-app-purchases-only). I'm sure many consumers like myself would give this otherwise outstanding app more kudos if it weren't for the aforementioned issue. But it is a significant one that needs addressing. Anyway, to Tabletop newcomers, this is one of the most enjoyable music apps on iOS. I'd be a liar if I didn't write that Tabletop is one of my favourite apps to make tunes on.

Very cool... Just got impc and running it in here.. A big thanks to the developer, a very cool tool! Hmm what about audiobus down the track a bit? Then it would be absolutely awesome ;-)

Can not save. Crashes every time. This app looks and sounds great but every time I go save it crashes. Will hold out for a fix if it comes soon

Song breaking bugs need fixing. Tabletop is a great app, it lets you throw together a song in minutes, with great results. But there are some major bugs I've noticed when saving some projects. Specifically, certain effect parameters are not saved properly or at all. This results in your songs playing back differently after leaving and coming back to them. For example the dry/wet knob of reverb does not appear to be saved, which throws out your sound when you return to it. The distortion effect is similar - after you reopen the project, it completely forgets the position of the amount knob, so the crunch of your distortion is different. This also happens with the Cueboard sampler, where the slice size is not saved (resets back to default 1/4 setting when reopening project), causing playback of your sequenced slices to sound completely different if you had it set to 1/8 or 1/16. This is not acceptable for in-app purchase devices.

Great app but.... WOW, I'd say this is the best music app ever and the most used on my iPad. But there is a bug that makes the app crash while playing music through the decks. Please fix as this is really annoying but otherwise this is the best app out there!!

Great!...but. Guys, the RS4000 is way too expensive. What about dropping the price? It was cheaper and now is back to this ridiculous price. Is not worth it for that kind of money. What about some new devices? I think that I'll stick to Caustic 3, much better. Good luck!

One thing. Great App!!!! The only thing that needs improving is the view interface. Trying to cue one thing and start another at the same time can be challenging at times. Despite this everything is Great!!!

REALLY POWERFUL!!!. very cool and powerful does everything you want and there is littereally millions of sounds to be generated probably more!! i bought every single device and i regret nothing very powerful and i want to see more. love the update the voice device...... AWESOME i requested it a while ago and it has been added never have i used an app more often i create dubstep and all with this app and remixing?? dont get me started on the possibilties!!! seriously buy it!! and get all the devices !!

Amazing. Probably my favourite music production app (and I have a few). And the best part is you can make quality music for free. The in-app purchases enhance the experience however are not required. This is perfect more for electronic and dance music more than any other genres.

Fantastic app. I love this app. If your into electronic music download it and buy all the in app purchases (well worth the $$). Great use of an iPad as a serious music making device. Would love to see more types of synths and better presets (Juno, Jupiter, fm,) and for the tone matrix to be able to trigger the synths (or a sequencer module to be provided) as well as having editable sounds, but as is the app is very usable and enjoyable. I'm very interested in trying the app with outboard midi gear, hoping it will rx & tx midi start/stop, sync, notes & cc's. Well done, please keep up the great work.

Overall great app. Overall great app, easy to use if you're well acquainted with the musical arts. My biggest problem is automation, it doesn't work very well. It'd be nice if it could be arranged like PC-based DAW's. 5/5 anyway cause it's really fun to use. Brought this down to a 4/5 cause my track clips amazingly even with the lowest decibels and properly mixed tracks. It sound good in the app, but if I try exporting it it clips.

Great App some suggestions. This is a great app and I am finding it very useful so thank you. However I am having trouble with managing all the sounds I have audio copied in to the app. I have many “general pasteboard” sounds and I am finding it difficult to find a specific sample. Plus when I have downloaded the audio copy app there is no place where I can copy audio files into there. I can only record with the mic which is pretty much making it unusable so I have to delete the app to be able to start pasting new audio files in. I hope you can change this, otherwise great work.

Cooler Than a Cool, Cool Thang On Cool Juice!. Yea verily, it doth ROX - Read mah lips suckas! Wanna make some Techno; Trance; Acid jazz grooves or PURE Dance? Looks no furda!! Here 'Tis! Download NOW an' gets JIGGY wit' it, or forever be a square peg in an even squarer hole. Good Grief!, . . . it's hard to talk like that for very long!! LOOK! this is just one of the very best music Apps out there on iOS, and can very probably make many other types of great music than the ones I listed above. Five stars! YO! ( does anybody actually SAY that any more? ) Replies on the back of a postcard to the usual address thanks!

Yesss. My reason for buying an iPad!!

Rs4000 ?. As I purchased it because the rs4000 was released but as I found out its extra - bummer it would be nice to know this before purchasing - as moog just released minimoog for a buck I don't see why tabletop can't include the rs4000.

Music App Hub. Tabletop for iPad is a very impressive App with plenty of potential for growth with its innovative in-app purchase and uploading features. As the burgeoning music apps market continues to grow Tabletop has set the standard for developing an app that is a self contained music app hub. The ability to purchase add-on devices provides Tabletop users with a plethora of choices when it comes to creating music for any genre. Clear HUD and intuitive interface makes for easy navigation and use. The amount and range of digitized devises that comes with the initial $.99 is well worth the investment, and it would be easy for many musicians to start using Tabletop add-ons to build their perfect mobile studio. The guide on how to use Tabletop is presented well with clear instructions for novice music app users. One of the most innovative functions of Tabletop is its ability to upload and share finished tracks to music community websites such as Soundcloud. A helpful feature for musicians wanting to make their music go public and start generating revenue. If Retronyms continues to provide updates and add ons, Tabletop has the potential to become a long player in an expanding music app market.

Wicked for production on the run!. I work with kids with disabilities and we use tabletop, I haven't unlocked everything or anything yet, but from what is free you can tell your getting a extremely powerful production studio on the run, I use this software to make quick loops or a full production piece. This is wicked and runs smoothly as anything on the iPad Mini.

Hasnt been updated in 2 years..... Better options out there.....was good back in th day. But abandoned, like many, as difficult to make a living from the app store. Sad but true.

good product that unfortunately become abandonware.... cmon guys, if you expect people to buy anything from you, at least keep an updated build against the latest iOS. It's nearing on two years without any updates. There are compatibility warnings upon launch. Not sure what happened here and nobody is asking you to keep building new features, but at least respect the people who bought your (very expensive) product enough to push out a new build with compatibility updates every now and again...

BEST MODULAR ENVIRONMENT. Tabletop is the BEST modular environment, I can not believe it is free. the fact it's free makes me want to buy additional instruments. clever. i love love love this app!!!

Good intention, bad execution. When i saw this app, looking through the screenshots I thought to myself, finally there is something even close to a computer daw on the iOS market, and I wasn't disappointed when I open a demo project, there are some basic features of a daw. However, when I open a new project, I realise what a nightmare the app is. The process of linking the instrument to the mixer is incredibly complex and annoying. Connecting an instrument with an effect takes tremendous amount of effect with connecting the "cables", the idea of "tabletop" certainly looks fancy but it is very hard to organise the instruments. That's not all, even the basic effect such as reverb has to be purchased, I don't mind if the instruments' price goes, make the reverb, delay and compressor plugin free. Furthermore, there are still crucial functions missing from the app, plugins such as a better eq that allows more precise eqing and there are no decent house/dance music samples. In conclusion, for people who's think they can start music production with this app, you are about to have a hard time figuring out how to do everything, if you are a experienced producer like me, you will find the app lack of important feature and the instruments are just child's play. The app is actually decent itself, it's just that I have a high expectation. I was waiting for a app that can run like fl studio or ableton live, and to this day, I am still waiting

Really awesome until the latest iOS. This app is awesome, been making bears and tunes on this thing non-stop. But now the new iOS on my iPad makes it crash every 5 minutes I open the program. Be nice if it was fixed so I can keep using it. 5 stars before the new IOS but 4 now.

Not updated since 2015!. Poor support - app has not been updated since 2015!

Could be amazing.. So much potential. Kinda like Propellor-heads Reason for iPad. In- app purchases are a bit pricey, and lacking a preview. Lack of Audioshare a BIG MINUS. And buggy. Mine keeps crashing when I access 'history' or rewind.

Effective DAW!. Very well implemented DAW. "Signal routing" is about the easiest to understand of any DAWs out there. I'm using an iPad 3, and I thought there might be some glitches in terms of stuttering and memory management, but ... so far so good. Loaded a couple instances of iMPC Pro, Phase 84, and a bunch of other stuff ... switched back and forth ... no problems. Good selection of "getting-started" instruments, but the bundle was worth it. Hey, they gotta make some money! (Note: iMPC Pro and Phase 84 aren't a part of the bundle.) Hard to go wrong with this product.

Ummm. Brilliant... Looking forward to future updates, mute / solo ability on tracks would be amazing.

Interesting take on iOS daw. First I would like to say that as long as this app is free, there are no significant complaints. The in app module purchases are there if you feel the need to upgrade, but they are not necessary to get professional results out of this app. This take on full multitrack recording on iOS is best geared towards electronic and hip hop producers. The modular nature (anything can connect to almost anything else) is very refreshing, and at times inspiring. Where this fails to live up is in the sequencing department and in the lack of a user-import sampler keyboard (very strange they didn't include this considering how simple it would be). Sequencing is interesting, taking the the DJ concept of blocks, loops and bars and reordering them in a trigger sampler of sorts. However, DJs often work with prerecorded loops, but that's not how you will be utilizing the sequencer. Basically you will live perform (no step sequencer, or piano roll input) all of your parts, being allowed to only change the quantize a bit, then you take those loops and order them in the trigger sequencer mentioned. It's a bit frustrating since you will not have any direct editing options. If you want to change one note, too bad, you will have to just rerecord the part. For this reason, I find the suite fantastic for only single loop creation. For full song editing, there is a lot left to be desired. Still, this is worthwhile and a great way for beginners to get involved, and an oldschool joy for us veterans. It bears mentioning that of all of the daws on my iPad, I often get the best loops coming out of this little app. Importing them to nanostudio, or my PC setup is fairly easy (but be warned, the audio export is real time stream-recorded, meaning you will likely have to chop your exports into proper loops in your destination editor of choice). Fix these issues, and it's an easy 5 out of 5.

Bad sound quality. I am very disappointed with this app, not worth the money, and the in app purchases are too expensive and the sound quality is really really bad. Don't waste your time with this app.

Love it. I'm a reason user on pc, and i been messin around looking for a good mobile platform, this absolutely rules, get the bundle with it. Im using ipad 4 having no stability issues at all. The fx are solid and you can sequence long pieces too. The inter app audio works great from what i've seen.

Bravo!. An absolutely beautifully written App! This is what quality program writing should be! My thanks to all the developers! Continue doing what you do!

Downloaded update then instantly deleted. The new synth which costs an extra 9.99 as an in app purchase is ten times the price of Animoog for less than one tenth the sound quality and innovation. And still no basic improvements like a setting for number of beats per bar... but why would they bother improving the basic program when it already functions perfectly as a storefront to sell you more mediocre sounding gear? Tabletop is on sale now for 99 cents but I urge you to buy something else instead. update: still applies to new version.

Good concept horrible sound quality. This is an app with good potential if they fix the sound quality. The sound is the worst quality you can imagine. I read that on another review and I regret I bought this, even though it was cheap this is a complete waste of money. How do these guys want to sell "professional" add-ons that sound like garbage? I would give more starts if the quality was acceptable but this is completely unacceptable.

No updates. Updates once every year or 2 no matter what. When a bug is fixed it means that bug has been ignored at least since the previous update. Considering apple updates the OS so often, that is unacceptable especially for such a deep app that people run a music setup around. Come on retronymns what are you doing.

Now complete. With the addition of the timeline and the iMPC, the software feels complete. To me, nothing essential is missing now in v2.

Crash Happy. I want to like this app, I really do, but. It CRASHES, a lot. I do hope that this can be fixed and the app improved upon, as I do enjoy using Audiotool online.

High memory, lots of fun stuff. I love this app you gotta try it u will be like 😲

SUMO Records(CAN/JPN)est 1984r. Great apps :)

Not as bad as you think. people should try out all the free features thoroughly before reviewing. The free stuff is actually pretty good.

Well Designed Interface. The modular design on this is impressive, bundle well worth the purchase as it continues to improve.

Lovely. All praise and criticism of this app is true. Tabletop is what you make out of it. It can be a lot of fun, especially if you use your own samples. Glitchboard is a great device, and can mod-up weak sample sounds. I use Mutekki samples extracted from Electrify app. The results are good because tabletop's platform gives me many creative options. One suggestion I would make is that there be a "mix down" function that would separate each track into a separate wave file for your desktop DAW (Ableton, in my case).

Quite simply..... Badass!

Matured Into Astonishing. Congrats on the new additions, making this app a musicians dream to work with. Providing a piano roll style editor was the one thing separating this app from being as great as it could have been, in doing so you have lifted the music iOS app bar to amazing heights also with the latest addition of the Akai iMPC, there is no telling what kind of standards this app will distinctively produce. As a producer and song writer I have always had a liking to this particular app not only because it has great rack effects, creative sound programs that come stocked or as addons as well as the mastering and equing abilities that also come stocked or as addons. It's the intuitive and originalities of the program that really set it aside from most of the other music making iOS apps available on the market that got me. As I spoke of earlier in this review, with the latest additions along with the piano roll style editor this app will stay on my iPad for months to come and if the addons along with new creative ways to produce music keep continuing to come out the wood works....I'll continue to produce music with it. I love this app and all the customer, musician driven efforts you hardworking devs put into it. Keep the brain power pushing and thank you for all your hark work....it pays off and it shows. Him

battery drain. I didn't took the time to properly learn how to use it but I did not find the interface intuitive and it drained almost 50% of my battery during the night, doing nothing. I should have think that it was running in the background but still. It is a great idea in theory but I don't think I will use it again.

Nice app idea, but needs improvement. Honestly I think you should stop making more devices and focus on stopping the crashes. I think the interface is beautiful, and I think this app will do well with not only electronic music, but with other types. I'm quite suprised that none of your synthesizers have a patch for just "piano". by the way, I'm wanting to buy reason from propellorheads but it's kind of expensive.

Do not buy! $20 of IAPs down the drain.. Garbage! Won't restore $20 worth of IAPs and developer couldn't care less. DO NOT BUY! Jan 1 2020 Update - it's been 4 years and still not a peep from support about all my missing IAPs. This company does not care after they get your money. Utter trash DO NOT BUY!!! Better off flushing your money down the toilet. August 2018 - FYI 3rd review update going on close to two and a half years and the developers still have not responded to my problems or review. Anyway, still can't restore my previous in app purchases and no support from the developer whatsoever. $20 down the drain. FYI REVIEW UPDATE NOV 2017- Been just over a year since I wrote the review below and the developer has still done nothing about all my in app purchases disappearing and becoming unrestorable. Approx $20 gone down the drain and not even an acknowledgement from the devs in OVER A YEAR! So save your cash and pick up Beatmaker 3, Korg Gadget or GarageBand. ALL of these options blow this app out of the water anyway. Nov 2016 review Sandboxed, can't use use modules outside TT as iaa or AU in other apps and now to top it all off all my in app purchases have disappeared and still cannot be restored. PS This happened almost a year ago and nobody at retronyms has done anything to fix it. I'd suggest saving your money and going with something stable and supported. Korg Gadet, beatmaker 3 etc.

Sweet. Really fun and easy.

Looper. I like this app a ton of fun, but it needs a simple looper,

Yah.... I'm a GUI designer and this app is wonderful....

Sound Quality. To be honest nice App however the sound quality need some work, also how about a arrangement view for all the tracks where you could edit like other DAW. AudioBus support needed for both TableTop and iMPC.

Great but probs. Please! Update to fix .wave conversion so there are no stutters/clicks! I notice that when i filled the table, with instruments with the volume down (ghost instruments, if you will), it converts better! Otherwise a stellar app!!!

Amazing app!!!. I saw the interface and decided to give this app a try, and HOLY BALLS IS IT GOOD. Seriously, it's already incredibly powerful and fun to use, and with the promise of more instruments, sounds, and effects to come, this is the single best music app I own. And I own GarageBand, sound prism, djay, etc, etc. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS APP ENOUGH.

One of a kind!. This is a must have music app for the iPad. It is the only such app that let's you "hook up" your studio the way you want. This flexibility puts It head and shoulders above the rest. The sounds are very good and it is very simple to learn the user interface. Although this app doesn't give you many tools to tweak your own sounds it does have amazing automation that let's you record most parameter settings. The real power of this app lies in the ability to plug in more modules as they become available.

Ahhhhhh!!!!!. This app is AMAZING and the only reason people say they have Bad sound quality is because you need to lower the volume of the individual device or else it'll sound like static. this app is great but you should really add more free devices

An actual full production studio. Amazing app! The best full production studio that's customizable in infinite ways. Fans of Reason on pc/mac will really enjoy it. Add-ons like the iMPC and moog synthesizer are well worth the money. It's gotten me back into electronic music production after years of losing the spark. Can't recommend it enough.

WAS fun. When i first downloaded the app everything was great... But two or three days later, some instruments such as the gridlock pad and the rs3 keypad stopped working properly and now there's no sound at all ... When i press play there nothing... It just doesn't play anything... Disapointed.

no audiocopy, no midi... this is ios right?. for the average musician, or beginning artist perhaps this would suffice. but when every other good app has Sonoma audiocopy, it appears tabletop has chintzed out. import of audio is possible but export is clunky and requires itunes syncing. coremidi and Ios syncing between apps is not available... so is app is falling behind the mainstream. the idea of modular synth is cool, but since it all has to be purchased... they aren't as cool as many other apps out there for a better price with better features.

Amzing!. This is an awesome app and defenatly worth getting. Th only thing is you should make more kits free.

Crashes, and limited functionality. I find this app crashes on me constantly. I purchased the iMPC Pro as a separate app because when I open tabletop and look at some of the demo files, it shows they are using the iMPR Pro app. Well, when you buy iMPC Pro which is supposed to be opened in Tabletop, it is actually the normal iMPC you are supposed to buy, even though it specifically show the iMPC pro app, and not the normal iMPC. That means you need to buy two iMPC apps for this to work in Tabletop. Very shady in my opinion. It also states in the guide that you are able to add files to the iMPC Pro app inside on Tabletop, but files you add to the Tabletop version of iMPC Pro, are not the same files that you put into iMPR Pro itself. That means if you want to work with the iMPC Pro app, that you need to add files twice. iMPC Pro as a standalone app seems be a very capable app, but tabletop is horrible. When you add devices, the cabling is impossible to see which device you have plugged in into. Add in a few devices, and you will no longer be able to see where your cabling goes. It becomes completely useless after three or four devices. I have asked for a refund as I purchase the expansion pack for all devices, but I can’t use the app because it crashes all of the time.

Best Music creation all-in-one. This has got to be the very best on the app store for making an entire song within an app. Very easy to use and great support!

Auto save. PLEASE put in auto save or stop crashing because I've lost 7min songs due to crashing. put in auto save

Great for improvising. This app is very unique, and definitely recommended for electronic music enthusiasts. It's sandbox approach to composing music is great, and works well in many situations. I have found that it works great for personal composition, and improvising with others. The tone matrix, and mpc are my favorite. The sounds are great, and the interface is inspiring.

Great Product.. This is a Loy of fun to play around with. The layout is great and it sounds pretty good too.

Love the concept Needs stability. I dropped a bunch of money on the plug ins and what not and it keeps crashing. Needs a stability fix. I can get about a quarter through song production and then it becomes impossible to finish. Please fix. Hoping i didnt waste my money here.

Amazing. This is what I've always wanted in a daw. Sampling, sequencing, Triggerometer (sp?). It's all here. Buy the bundled instrument and fx pack. Best money you will ever spend. And with AudioCopy this thing is killing it for me!!! Creativity and output has gone way up for me.

Just a fantastic app. I'm a guitarist, but have been interested in DJing and how it works for some time. What a great app! You get so much content free of charge. I have had so much fun learning and making original music with this app. I paid for most of the add ons even though I was able to create so much free of charge. Even though I'm not a DJ, I know quality and this app is just that. A high quality app for beginner to advanced musicians. I would be shocked if there was a better app out there. Check out studio tracks/four tracks too!! Another great app from these guys!! Edit: Suggestions: a mute/soloing feature would be great. Also the app crashes from time to time, though this shouldn't hinder anyone from trying this amazing app!

Not that great. I spent 20 bucks on the packs and found them to be sub par. Kinda wasted some money.

Very good. This app is very unique, easy to use and you can make some sick dubstep with the right mind and creativity.

No auto tune? No refund?. So updated, and lost auto tune on all my tracks. And didn't I pay for that plug in?? Where's my refund or credit??

Great app!. Hands down the best music app I have come across in months.

Freemium waste of time. Skeuomorphism overdose, buggy, no audiobus support (this is really bad) , no midi out: feels like it has been designed for "vendor lock-in" it does not play well with others. Don't let its snazzy graphic or freemium model fools you, it look way better than what it truly is: quite bad, subpar. Beatmaker2, Garage Band, cubasis, nanostudio are some examples of much better apps that do cost money but actually deliver some great experiences without nagging you with missing basic functionalities with in app purchases.

Amazing potential. This is exactly what I wanted for the ipad. Really slick app with tons of great built in plugins. Recognized my tabletop ready apps iMPC and iMini right away. Devs, PLEASE get Korg to make all their amazing apps tabletop compatible! My ipad is becoming more fun to produce on then my pc! 4 very solid stars. With some audiobus support and more third part support I can't see a reason to use any other app. Also some export options to make it play nice with pc daws would turn this already amazing app into perfection. Thank you!

Almost Perfect. This app is great for any person who uses reason or rebirth, and doesn't take long to learn how to use the app. It took me about an hour to get use to the app, and after that I was making beats in no time. Pros: -easy to use -sounds great -cheap($1) -you can make almost every genre (hip hop, rap, dustep, electro, ect.) Cons: -crashes (but didn't lose anything) -you can't export any of the song you make -you have to pay for extra effects, instruments, and controllers but it's wroth it -needs more instruments and effects and stuff My specs are: iPad 1st gen. 64 gb 3G + wifi running 5.0.1 Bottom line: This app is great for the price the company is selling it at and after they fix their bugs and add more instruments and effects.

Love this app. Can't get enough of it

iMPC addition is great. I love the addition of the iMPC but unfortunately the app will crash maybe 80% of the times when I try to go to the sequencer. This is annoying to say the least. Anyway I just want to see that fixed and I will adjust to the proper 5 stars.

awesome. I'm giving this 5 stars ignoring the fact that it keeps crashing every song with the new OS, and basing it on how much I love the layout and flow of using it. I have a huge collection of music making/recording apps and come back to this one every time. And now you can record with using other non tabletop sounds from other apps! Crazy!

FINALLY. It feels like FOREVER since you guys have updated the app!!! I am extremely happy to see you all working on it again! I really love using Tabletop, and I'm happy to see you've worked out some of the bugs with The tabletop ready devices! Looking forward to seeing more Tabletop ready devices and more improvements/updates from you guys from now on. Cheers! :)

EXPENSIVE to get the basics. The idea of a modular system is great. You can buy what you need and skip, or at least hold off on less useful devices. I look forward to trying out new devices when available but I'm sure the in-app prices are going to be outrageous. After the introductory sale Retronyms website says simple effects will be $4.99. For an absolutely basic effect with few parameters that seems daft. For the same price you can buy some very capable, fully functioning synths or beat machines, many with built-in effects. The keyboard is very basic, with two octaves that you apparently can't change, a pitch bend wheel and ADSR. The sample pads are also quite basic. I'm sure some more-capable instruments will arrive soon. Hopefully not at $9.99 each! I haven't had a crash but simply playing an ITunes track puts the CPU into the yellow warning lights on my iPad 2. I'm a fool for music apps and while I think there is potential, I think Tabletop will end up being very expensive once you add future modules. Currently it is very basic and will likely only improve with purchasing new devices. I doubt an update will add mute and solos to the included mixer. You will need ten more dollars for that.

Best production app out. This app has made production easy and fun, I love the way you can make nice sounding beats on the fly, Im a producer for a independent recording company, the artist can't tell the diffrence when I play a track back that I made on tabletop from the ones I produced on my desktop computer. This is the future of big production biz so don't be the last to find out about this great product, it's amazing..

Shazzaamm.. My band depends on this app in order to run our IMPC and iMini at the same...love it, have started to depend on this over reason. To the guy who is having the crash problem, shut your iPad down and back on after you install the program, and save your project every once and a while. I did want to mention an issue that could hopefully be fixed in the next update...when using the line 6 mobile keys, program does not accept MIDI messages from the pitch wheel, mod works fine but so far attempting it with the polyphonic and iMini I have had no luck bending the pitch. Please help.

Best music app for iPad hands down.. I am a jazz drummer, singer songwriter. I compose with logic, and reason. This app has somehow floored them both for sequenced song composition. I mean I basically expands the impc beyond like jj OS but visually far better and more tools like the mood emulator. This is what Reason is supposed to be, on my new iPad mini. Wow!! My request to the authors is we need something like dr Rex support. Something to make it easy to chop samples with extreme accuracy and spread them them on pads like the iMPC or any such tool. Like juggler but more accurate with waveform visual splitting.

Table of Awesome. You really can't complain too much about the in-app purchases. They tell you up front what is included and you are given enough to get started with. I think this is good, because everyone makes music different. I think the stuttering unit is fantastic, while someone else might have no interest in it. I do think that some of the prices are odd. I hope there are even more boxes coming, and I will say that in general I would like to see more patches, a dj eq with kills possibly put on the x-fader, and I also vote for midi control. Please send a letter to the iKaossilator app, saying, "I want you inside me."

Supports Inter-App Audio. I just want to point out to everybody that gave a low rating because of the lack of Audiobus support that there is indeed inter-app audio support within tabletop. You can route any synth or other app that supports inter-app audio right into tabletop. This includes third party effects. Yes I know you have to pay to get more features within tabletop but I mean it's still way cheaper than buying a $1000 laptop, a $500 DAW and $100 VST plugins. Once you invest a little bit of money with this app the possibilities are endless.

Michael. This thing is like getting a big pile of studio gear thrown on the floor, and when you drag it up on the table, it hooks itself up!!! Too awesome! But I'd still like some more info on proper connections, it is possible to do it wrong, and lose all sound. Still, my first session lasted about 13 hours straight, highly addictive, spend the $35 and get it all,,, an awesome bargain! Also want to know how, if possible ,, to input my own guitar, that would be the icing on the cake.

Great concept poor execution. So I'm thinking this will be the end all be all of my virtual studio apps, but they nickel and dime you to death! In order to get my makeshift prodigy studio, I need to drop $27 extra to get the effects and drum machines I need! To hand sequence without a table and just tapping is such a pain! Let's see, no midi support for the keyboards you already get, table sequence within a bar is extremely difficult because there always seems to be dead air between measures. Oh yea did I mention consistent crashes while sequencing? But my least favorite lack of features is the auto save, spent an hour build a table sequencing and then crashes losing everything! Save your money beatmaker 2 is still unbeatable.

Amazing software. Should've just bought this instead of everything else I got (besides genome), but this basically does everything my hardware studio does but in a simple portable package. So much fun to be able to route wires on the fly with a touch device. No more climbing behind my computer and moving wires around when I get a cool routing idea. That said I'll still use my home studio, but it is amazing that this models the real thing so well. Especially with how the drum machine and 303 emulation work. I wish the drum machine had multi outs though and midi out would be nice for studio recording.

Great app, needs a little improvement.... I LOVE this app! Just a few simple things would make it unstoppable. Full MIDI support, Audiobus functionality, and the triggerator doesn't always work properly. Those are my only gripes with TT. Otherwise it's one of the best out there, and DEFINITELY one of my favorites! Fantastic job Retronyms. I'm a live electronic musician with LOTS of hardware in conjunction with my iPad so fixing the MIDI and triggerator (block mode reliability) would make this a staple in my on stage setup. Thanks guys!!! :)

Nice but a bit of a learning curve. This app uses modules to change the characteristics of the sounds. It takes a bit of getting used to but the combinations seem endless. This would be good for composers or writers who want the ability to tweak the sound to get it just the way you want. It is definitely worth having. Looking forward to new modules.

Great but crashes too often. Edited: It's been a while since I have used this app, but even now with midi editing and piano roll, its still not to my liking. It feels and sounds horribly outdated and the editing and sequencing in the app is more cumbersome then it really needs to be. This is an archaic formula. If you want real control over your tracks and want far superior sound you are better off checking out Nanostudio or Beat Maker 2. Those apps give endless sampling and editing possibilities. With the advent of audiobus, why anyone would limit themselves with this closed app is beyond me. Retronyms, no thanks. Check the title, all I can say.

Awesome support. I think other reviews speak well to what this app is capable of and its usefulness. What I want to highlight is the fantastic support offered. I have contacted support on a few occasions. Each time, I have received a return message, not only letting me know that the bug report was received, but also a follow up message telling me that the bug would be fixed in the next release. I wish all developers could be this expressive!

Only MIDI is missing. For the drum sounds alone, this app is worth it. Paired with their Bit crusher, and this has become my favorite drum engine out of every piece of hardware and software I own. However, the option of assignable MIDI control would put this app over the top. I want to play these gorgeous sounds as hard as I can, and unfortunately a touchscreen can only go so far. Why make users resample everything somewhere else when you could potentially have people making and performing music with your app alone?

Missed the mark. This review is for the basic version. Without purchasing additional modules there is minimum that can be programmed. While a sampler is included that can load drum sounds, it does not appear to have a grid that allows a musician to edit. This makes it really hard to edit a track. Furthermore, while recording in real time if you mess up there should be a simple way to delete just that sample pad for the pattern ... Like on a Roland R8 where you hold down the erase button and the sample pad at the same time. The lack of edit grid is also the same issue on the synth. I would be fine with buying add ons if I was able to do something with the demo, but you really need a drum machine to do any initial tracks which this lacks. They would be better to include the drum machine and then charge for additional drum sets ( ie give a generic 606 and 909) but charge for an 808, linn drum, etc ... I have a feeling the developers will figure this out and reviews to go up. The demo needs enough to make music. I will review again at a later time to see if improvements were made and to adjust review.

Decent, but a rip off.... Ok...I don't know why the developers of this app thought it would be a great idea to charge high costs for individual instruments in this app, but that is just highly discouraging and the basic set is completely limited and uninspiring. I could just a similar app on the web called AudioTool which is the exact same thing with so much more for free. Get rid of the silly micro transaction crap and instead charge 10 bucks for the whole package...maybe I'll keep using this tabletop app...it could have been better and I was interested in this for portability...but I found that I can't use half the stuff and they expect me to spend another 30 bucks invested towards individual instruments and effects to get a proper use of this app. Way to cheat a customer...

excellent app!. I've been writing, recording and playing music in genres from Rockabilly to Irish to Industrial for 16 years. I was dubious of these toy iPad apps when I first discovered them, but this app is a game changer to me. Think of a hybrid Reason/Ableton crossover that is more intuitive and you'll get an idea. Must have if you are into any kind of electronic music. The $30 bundle is a steal for everything it does- want one electro music app on your device? Tabletop has got to be it. PLEASE ADD AUDIO/VOCAL CAPABILITIES IN FUTURE UPDATES!

Awesome. I have experienced my share of crashes, however it still makes up that in the fact that this program is just awesome. I have created some pretty sweet tunes and put them to cd as well as getting them played in a local club as well as driving music and I am having great successes. My only gripe about the app is the crashes and when you put a tune sometimes it won't fully record, but the it is a great app. Could it be the app may be to powerful for the modem it is in or do the bugs just need to be worked out? Whatever it is I really do love this app because it is taking my music to new heights!

More outputs for the impc. More outputs for the impc would be more useful for transfer to protools or any other studio app on a computer using the little recorders in the tabletop app four outputs and editable attack decay release amplitude for each or some pads. Would make this a more usable high level app. Forcing more people to buy the inner App purchases. Most of the time when I want to use a delay or reverb its on one or two drums. Using two or three iMpc to make one drum beat is not so much fun as using one. Yes it can Be done easily but more outputs in tabletop would be great. Making it a more useful app.

Legitmately the most fun i've had spitballing EVER. The sequencing concept behind tabletop is sublime for throwing together ideas and seeing what sticks. I LOVE that I can export loops and reimport them via audiocopy into an instance of an iMPC to go past the nine instrument limit.. although I hope for a faster workflow for that one day. Simply put, if I had to use just one app.. this would be it, by a mile. I haven't had major stability issues, myself.. when I have, it has autosaved. Keep the updates coming!

Music the way you dream. TableTop solves the most urgent issues with making electronic music on the iPad, integration. This app lets you bring together your synths, drum machines and effects - and effortlessly integrate them with sequencer and mixer. The result is a killer musical sandbox. The app is free and comes with all the basics to get started but a few bucks for any of the more robust keyboards or drum machines (that are also stand-alone apps) will enhance the experience and are well worth it. Great app, wouldn't leave home without it.

IS THERE AN IAP TO MAKE IT BETTER?. The idea is and always has been awesome. I like the idea of representing a hardware playground and this satisfies...in looks. Come on Retronyms, tweak this App...it's worth it! Could you all implement a way to minimize the hardware...particularly the pattern module and the 4 channel bus mixer? Is that much screen space really necessary for the pattern module? And for the 4 channel mixer...are the EQ's so important that we need them? Maybe make a equivalent mixer with just the signal routing flexibility (which is more important in my opinion given the limited space for effects modules on the tabletop)? I still love you all.

Purchased it in its early days.... Loved it then, still love it now! As a standard download, you can do so much with its presets. I've since download everything aside from the T-Pain thing, and the 3 latest feature which include the BOOMROOM, but I've got more than enough! I love the layout of it all. It really is like carrying a studio around you. Having effects at your disposal, a drum machine, synthesizers, effects, just so much use. My only issue now resolves around the lack of support with Audiobus. Tabletop is starting to feel like my lone son doing whatever he wants, not wanting to join the other family members lol I leave one star for some improvements in the features it has now, and on occasion, a crash here and there but overall, first music app I fell in love with, and still loving this app years later.

Ok, I guess.... Not really my thing... There are plenty of other music apps that do the same things and I like like working in them better. BM2 and GB are what I would recommend... While neither are perfect they're both more enjoyable to work in. The IAPs don't work for me either... I suppose you could put together a studio that 'only has what you want' in it. Or you could get an app that comes with 'everything' in it to begin with. I paid a buck for it and ended up deleting it from my iPad2. I did want to like this app but in the end never could.

Tabletop is Ace!. I am having so much fun writing with tabletop. I love being able to record into the sampler and being able to import my own samples. This is so much more flexible than a lot of the other iOS sequencers out there. I can compose with some but can't sample and with others it's the opposite. Some apps are trying too hard to be DAWs and are not cutting it, others just feel like toys. Table top bridges that gap and provides a fun working environment that is very powerful. Tabletop has everything I need for sketching out new ideas while I'm away from my studio. Thanks!

Becoming a Mature App!. Tabletop used to feel like a poor man's Audiotool. No longer. It now has its own unique vibe. Latest updates and incorporation of Arturia synths, better Retronym synths/effects and IAA make the app really versatile and robust. Even the free version has enough to get you going. As Apple's IOS becomes more stable and mature, I anticipate apps like Tabletop will become more stable and better! It is difficult for developers to keep up with a platform that is constantly changing. Please keep the updates coming!

Worth it. Totally worth the price. Most people are complaining about in-app purchases. 1) the purchases are clearly stated in the description; 2) real life effects are more than 20 TIMES the price of the purchases in the app. Definitely worth the in-app more than other companies. I love this app despite it's constant crashing. Luckily it is happening as I am playing with the UI, but it worries me a bit. Developers will probably be working on it. They have created a fun, yet professional app that many of us have been looking forward too. Great job!

Meh. It's pretty and it's fun for a little bit, but the 99c price tag is an illusion. Almost everything I'd want to use costs 2.99 PER EFFECT. I understand pay to play features are the hot new ticket for iDevice apps, but it's harder to understand the full value of an app, not to mention the limitations of a vanilla install of the app. Extremely limited without some of the purchases, which bring it up to the price of competing software. Nothing special for the price, once you have payed out the nose to make it usable.

Coolest music production app in the planet!!. U guys did good whit this app!!!autoanimation is amazing!!it does everything u want it to do!!great for creating a quick beat to have people dancing where ever they at or making masterpieces like I do!!! :) but is an amazing app and I'll put my word on it!!!one little problem whit it!!! It crashes when u lease expected!! That's why u have to save every time u add some to ur track!!and. Other thing!! Each track needs to save its own settings..cus every time u make a new beat and u want to lower a sound it affects the other tracks...that should be the next update!! That would be sweet!!but thanx!! Great app!!

Please fix the knobs. First off, let me just say that this is one of the more fulfilling and impressive music apps I've come across. I'm not touting it at all; go ahead and download it! However, the ONLY problem I've come across is the problem of the knobs. Every Retronyms app that I have used has the same problem of faulty knobs that act like wheels. When I try to move a knob clockwise, it will go to the middle and then go back down to the starting position. No other music app with knobs (for example KORG's iElectribe) that I own has this problem, it's only this and Retronyms's Synth app. Retronyms, please fix this problem so that a stellar app won't fall victim to a single problem!

I need a piano roll. Being I'm new to the music production I need to see my work laid out. If you could do a piano roll edit like GarageBand or fruity loops that way I can make my melodies sound like I know what I'm doing...... Also can you show demos for hip hop music...... Also why don't my Bluetooth play without being distorted they play on GarageBand and rhythm. You fix these issues and I will delete both of those apps ASAP. I WILL STILL GIVE 5 STARS BECAUSE SOON YOU WILL HAVE IPAD ON LOCK!

Pure Fun, for Free!!!. I've used a handful of music creation apps on my iPad, but this one has managed to amaze me. The design alone is enough to get excited about, but it also delivers in terms of functionality. Tabletop allows you to rearrange multiple sources of sound, and gives you the freedom to come up with something fresh. Some features such as a piano roll are missing, but I kind of enjoy not feeling obligated to perfect every composition. If you are into music creation you have to give this app a shot, as it takes full advantage of the iPad's unique touch interface.

Great app! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Few suggestions.... Fantastic app! Love this despite the learning curve. Once that is surpassed this is fun. I use this for many things, my own little electronic ideas, backing tracks, and looping accompaniment with my guitar. I would like the ability to have more than just a 4/4 time signature. I've had to scrap a whole loop because the song I was performing required a 2/4 measure. I would also like to see more smooth sounds. Mellow sounds. I use the hard electro stuff. But I really need some smooth pads and mellow percussion. I use this app live EXCLUSIVELY with my acoustic guitar, love the interface, just need more sounds that won't feel out of place. Other than those suggestions, the app is FANTASTIC! The interface is great for a live set aswell as taking time to make elaborate tracks. Love this app, it has great potential and has helped me utilize my iPad in my music. Thanks so much.

Perfect App for Mobile Music Production and More!. I downloaded the free core version of Tabletop a couple of months ago and was amazed by the functionality. It opened up a whole new avenue for music production, both on the Go and in-house. There's compressors, equalizers, reverb, delay, bass line sequencers, drum-machines and more. I quickly realized the power of the platform and immediately purchased the aforementioned modules to open up my sound further. The process was painless and easy, and in seconds I had a fully realized mobile DAW. I've produced some of the BEST work on Tabletop, because the ability to tap and use the platform as a trigger finger is incomprable to anything else I've used. This is absolutely a five-star first-rate app, and I encourage ANYONE who even remotely thinks about music on the fly, or a more hands-on approach to music production to check out Tabletop. AlectronicAlexander

A favorite. So far this is one of my favorite song sequencer. I especially like the Triggerator, which allows you to run the whole composition or play individual segments like a loop triggering machine. BUT, you must please fix the sequence editor. Getting the edit buttons to show without destroying your selections, especially when selecting multiple notes, is a frustrating if not impossible exercise. Try selecting every other note on a horizontal line and changing the velocity. Virtually impossible to do. Check out how NanoStudio does it. It's much more usable.

Now that I've used it for awhile.... My first impression was that it's an amazing piece of software, but as I have used it for awhile I think the amazing part is the potential it has if they keep developing it. I'm not sure if it's more accurate to describe it as a song creation tool or a really sophisticated instrument. As a song creation tool it lacks a lot of basic editing features that make it too frustrating to use for that purpose. Using it as an instrument I think it's more powerful and offers some really unique features. As cool as it is though I wonder why they don't do more with some of the devices rather than simply replicate existing ones. It would be an excellent upgrade if the devices output a midi signal that can feed into other devices. Like sending the output from the m8rx or tt-303 into one of the synthesizers or a sampler. The synthesizers seem like the weakest devices. To me the sounds seem somewhat limited. I hope they keep building this as it does have amazing potential and don't abandon it like Dopplerpad which also has amazing potential.

piece of crap!!!. Where do I begin.....!!!??!!! I can't believe people are actually hyping this app up. It's so many issues with this app, I can't begin to express the sadness I've experienced with it. From making several songs to coming back hours later and it be gone, or just sounds changed, pitch changed, etc. etc. You have to be a complete idiot to think you could compose a PROFESSIONAL track on most, if not ALL, on these TOY apps. As a professional producer, I think I'll stick to the gear I'm used too and purchased from a professional viable music source! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!

Ok, but why the extra $$$$. I like this app. It has some great potential. However, I agree with the numerous people that have issues with the extra modules costing $5. That's absurd. I like the layout and the ability to see everything and connect everything, but the lack of effects and mixers, etc. for free brings this app down in my book. Another thing I would love to see added is a step sequencer. Right now, you have to re-record if you screw up a recording.

Powerful, fun, expandable. Tabletop is a great concept to let you wire up the devices you want to use and encourages experimentation and creativity. This design allows it to be *much* more flexible than other apps, while letting each individual device be fairly simple. It comes with plenty of modules to get you going, but offers in app purchases for many others if you want to expand. The built-in sounds are much more suited to contemporary electronica than, say, GarageBand. Plus the configurability goes far beyond what GarageBand allows. I've used Tabletop for basic DJing, sampling, synthesis, beat making, and song sketching. Some instruments are pretty limited, but it's actually fun to embrace creative constraint and I'm always surprised what im able to put together. In the future I'd like to see some improved ways to edit sequences and automation, but it's definitely an impressive music app.

Amazing!. This app gives you an awesome modular studio environment on your mobile device! The modules included with the purchase provide more than enough power to create great music from the start. The additional in-app purchases expand the options available and are an added bonus! When I am away from my regular music making machine, this app is my go to choice. The developers continue to work hard to implement new things and user suggestions. Get this app now! You will not be disappointed! ESSENTIAL!

Parts of Loops Disappear. Occasionally an entire beat and melody I set up will disappear after closing and relaunching the app. The Tigerator will just leave some loops entirely empty upon reopening, which is frustrating when trying to return to a project after a few hours. Edit: I really want to love this app. It offers so much! But it's really failing to deliver for actual production. After creating a loop, I begin work on a next one. When I finish the next loop, I return to the first to find that all of my synths in the first loop have disappeared entirely. Does anyone now why pieces of my loops keep disappearing? I would rate this five stars if the work I put into the app didn't vanish minutes after its creation.

Let's me stay creative!!!. I've used Tabletop for a few months now. I love how intuitive it was to learn how to use it, I didn't have to spend any time reading manuals. This allows me to get creative immediately and skip the learning curve and also any trouble shooting. It just works and it's just easy. It's so easy to find and connect my devices. I know there's still lots and lots for me to learn but for now Tabletop lets me get my ideas down quickly and this is so inspiring and keeps any frustrations out of the creative process. I can totally recommend getting Tabletop.

BEWARE - Not for the professional - all work lost!. Good for farting around - don't expect to be able to use anything you create in a real production. See below: Spent 4 hours or so tweaking up some great sounding sequences with iMini and iMPC. Perfect for new song I've been noodling - VERY HAPPY! Ok, so how do I use what I've created? I see wav export, but I have more ideas to refine in my pro rig... Went to move what I created on an IPad 4 to hoss-daddy iPad Pro for extraction of patches and midi - looks like that happens through SoundCloud?? How do I save my patches and sequences? CONCERNED. Activated SoundCloud - Tabletop no longer works. Continually crashes on both devices! UPSET! Seek resolution online because surely I did something wrong. Nada. Zilch. UPSET, DEJECTED & FRUSTRATED Can't find session data files anywhere. No support, no threads, really not even a proper website - work lost!! FUMING!!! CREATIVITY SNUFFED OUT I spend my limited personal time creating in order to release tension - not amplify it. Back to my real gear I go! :)

My favorite iPad app.. Tabletop is an extremely useful music sketchpad, that is evolving into a really robust studio tool. The in-app purchase model is the perfect way to keep the initial buy-in low, while also allowing you to expand your tools as needed. The developers are extremely responsive, and eager to take feedback and suggestions. After only a few hours I was able to produce a track that I honestly didn't think was possible on the iPad platform yet. Very happy with my purchase, and excited to see how much further they plan on taking Tabletop in the future.

Uninspiring sounds. The interface gets 4 stars easily but the sounds that any of the components make are very dull, bleepy and bloopy.. The demo's sound like music made for video games in the 90's. You really gotta have some talent to squeeze anything fresh out of this app. Would have loved to invest in some of the components cuz the interface is so nice but all of the synth sounds are terrible and uninspiring. I can't see myself making any useful music with this so I'm going to have to pass.

Nice try, but no cigar!. I experienced crashes within 2 minutes of opening this app on my iPad 3. Accessing the sequencer from impc crashes it when using a program that has empty pads. Also, programs, samples and sequences I created in impc are not accessible from Tabletop. Recording sequence live crashes it after a few minutes. After a crash, all work is LOST!! I was very impressed with the interface and supposed functionality, but it doesn't work and is a waste of time if you're looking for a serious production tool for your iPad. Shame... I had high hopes.

That's some improvement!. Ok, so I got this awhile ago and bought all in-app purchases, but couldn't wrap my head around all the features. With the addition of Tabletop ready apps and a really great first tabletop ready app in the Akai iMPC, I started to check this out more. Went to the midi learn part and wow! Fantastic implementation of midi learn. Closest I've seen to Ableton Live in terms of easy midi mapping to controllers. I am really looking forward to see what future Tabletop Ready apps come out - hint....make them as great as the iMPC and you will have customers coming over en mass.

Fun but very limited.. There is quite a bit to like about Tabletop. It has a bunch of cool devices, sounds great, and is really fun to use. The problem is that you can't really setup a serious workflow to put down complex ideas, which is really frustrating. Tabletop needs several additions to make it a standout iOS production studio. Of greatest importance are a proper sequencer and timeline, with support for editing automation and MIDI data. This is simply a must for moving past the toy stage. Please steal your inspiration from Nanostudio, because the developer has done an incredible job in this department. What I would also love to see are support for AudioCopy/Paste and a mechanism to easily bounce loops of various lengths, or even several patterns at once. Let me take a minute to thanks the devs for the product they have already produced. It is really a lot of fun and has great potential. I would not bother to write this review if that was not the case. I look forward to seeing Tabletop evolve into a top notch mobile production studio. I think the talent is there to pull it off. Much love to you all.
