Tichu Game Description & Overview

What is tichu app? *** Listed on Games Magazine's Electronic Games 100 for 2011! ***

Shall I Teach You About Tichu?

Legend has it that over 642 million Chinese play Tichu nearly every day! I don't know about that. All I know is that Tichu might very well be the world's best card game.

Tichu is a partnership game for four players where partners battle to be the first to play all of their cards and score points. Each hand is filled with strategy and risk. Will you be the first player to play all of your cards? Perhaps you'd like to make a little wager on that? Are you willing to risk 100 points? How about 200?

Tichu has long been the favorite card game of all time on BoardGameGeek. Find out why! I promise that you won't regret it!

Tichu boasts the following great features:

* Fully licensed and authorized by designer Urs Hostettler and publisher Fata Morgana Spiele.
* Computer controlled opponents boast a challenging and lifelike Artificial Intelligence that is configurable in numerous ways.
* Up to 4 humans can play linked over Bluetooth or Game Center.
* Full support for Game Center! including achievements, leaderboards, and world-wide multiplayer!
* Extensive tutorial and in-game documentation will teach you how to play and have you playing like a champ in no time.
* Shake-A-Hint™ feature helps you play while you learn.
* Music and sound effects.
* Keep track of up to 4 games at once.
* Keep track of your game's progress with a fully automated score sheet.
* Track your statistics over multiple game sessions.
* Play in English or German.
* Optimized high resolution images for iPhone 4 and iPad.
(It also looks fantastic on older iPhones and iPod touch.)

Tichu Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Needs an update. This should be a free app if there hasn’t been any updates in 4 years. It’s not worth the purchase. I downloaded to play with friends and that function isn’t working. Playing with bots is extremely frustrating. The other bots play seamlessly together whereas your partner continues to sabotage the game for you. That is if you want a challenging game play. If you just want to win every hand and the other team never calls TICHU then that may work for you. But again it’s outdated and you’re forced to play with bots.

Could improve. I love playing Tichu, however….sometimes, I have to delete and reopen the app because it will close down any time that I try to open it. I also notice that some of the opponents plays don’t make sense, such as having a card to play and not doing it. For the money, this is a fun diversion:)

Good Solo, but Game Center does not work for us.. A few friends and I purchased this app with the hope of playing together remotely via Game Center. We have not been able to get that to work at all yet. The game is fine as a single player experience I suppose, but very disappointed that multiplayer with friends will not work.

Good way to learn. I'd heard good things about Tichu, and I found this app was a fun way to learn the game. I'm not really at the level where I can address the complaint I saw about the AI from an experienced player, but, as a newbie, I approve.

Tichu Review. I have been playing this game since I purchased my first iPad....Several years ago! Tichu is my favorite game to play online....It is never boring, and I love the fact that I don’t have to spend a fortune in order to be successful and win a game! It seems like every other game out there is boring as hell unless you “purchase” boosters or addl credits to play the game...I have just deleted both Bejeweled Blitz and Candy Crush because if you don’t pay additional money, the game is boring as hell! I Love Tichu!!!

Multiplayer. Still haven’t been able to invite any friends. Am I missing something?

Great Game. This is one of my favorite games - but I don't always have a foursome of friends to play. This app lets me still have fun and practice for when do have friends over for a game.

Please update to work with new iPhone updates. Please update to work with new iPhone updates

Extremely addictive!!!. This is spades on steroids! Love it. Only downside is that the game (not the app) isn't easily taught to kids under 10 imo)... but if you know poker and/or spades you'll love this!

Great game, tips favor in computer opponents. There’s no way cards are distributed fairly. I kept mental track of how many times opponents got the dragon and it was higher than me and my computer partner. They play at a higher skill level than your partner as well, even if you turn up your partners playing methods. If you’re looking to REALLY build up your skill and think through things, it’s worth it if you want to get better. But if you’re looking to causally play I’d pass on this.

Issue with Becky!. I would love the developers to fix this one issue. When one of us has only one card left, Becky will play her lowest card instead of going from high to low. It’s pretty silly because otherwise the AI‘s are pretty smart when you have them on the smartest level. I am pretty sure that the other ai players do that as well. But that particular thing is pretty annoying!

Excellent all. If you know the game then you know it‘s good. But as a programmer i have to say that this app is very well done and thought through, didn‘t expect it to be that good. Good job dev team. 👍

Tichu!. The game plays well, it’s fun and easy to learn. However the algorithm is extremely predictable and is not like playing against actual people. It’s a great app to learn the basics and general know how of the game.

Just hope for multiplayer. This game in general is super fun and will be remembered throughout my childhood that I may even enjoy in the future! Very helpful and helps me practice until I play with my friends and family but I’m quiet upset that there isn’t multiplayer which may have made the game a little more fun and creative because of the very mistakes and very wise moves some players may make which makes it all in all way more entertaining and with communication at hand possibly with a mic making it even better of a game! Recommend it nonetheless. Hope it’s free in the future as well so more players can play and know about this very fun game.

Terrible AI. This game used to be tolerable, but since the most recent update, the lowest setting of AI for opponents makes them so bad that you will win 100% of the time (literally). It is as though they don't even understand the rules of the game. Unfortunately, the second lowest setting of AI makes your opponents so good (including having them clearly know what is in your hand) that you will lose 100% of the time (literally). It is really remarkable, not in a good way.

I love this game. Several years ago, I downloaded this despite never having never heard of Tichu. And while other old games have fallen by the wayside, I always come back to this one. It’s a phenomenal game.

I love the game but My eyes hurt!. Make the cards a little bigger. It would be nice to be able to turn the screen horizontally to make them larger. But I do love the game.

Game play is corrupt. Not sure that the game is playing correctly. The AI players are able to lead out with three pairs. Where as I cannot lead out with better than A single pair. Then the full house lead by an AI player cannot be beaten. Even with a higher full house. Somethings not quite rite with this game

Too frequent bomb. Bombs come out too often when playing with AI players.

Great, but unrealistic. I love the way the game is organized on the app, and the way it looks. With that said, I have been playing Tichu for years, and I have never seen so many players have bombs. It’s just not possible. Every game I play, there are at least 2-3 bombs played. That is not realistic at all. Again, great game, but this is getting annoying.

Great implementation of a great game. Hard to beat Tichu as a four player card game. This version plays well and has plenty of hints and extras. Thanks developers!

Please update. All of the AI players know what cards you have. This is clear on the wishes made, and when lead specific cards, and even when passing. Still a great app!

It's a lot of fun. Maybe not the prettiest and as others have said, AI sometime makes confusing choices. But, if you know Tichu or want to learn, this is the best way to do it without having to get real players together. I play it all the time.

Compelling game--like Spades but much richer!. I have never played Tichu before but I am now good and hooked! The game has one of the best tutorials that I've seen on a phone platform and the "shake a hint" is invaluable. Partner games are so rare these days and I want to get friends to play, but the computer players are the next best thing. And you can easily play online side by side with multiple phones!!! If you like Spades I promise you'll love Tichu. The help is also well written and close at hand to reference to help understand how the special cards work--even includes a bit of strategy. Can't imagine getting bored of this game. Well worth paying for. Thank you for bringing it to the iPhone, and thus, to me!!!

My favorite game. Great game with a tough AI. I play this more than any other game I have ever purchased. It is always available on my phone for a quick hand or two. Good cards or not there is always something to play for. Its the best purchase I have made for enjoyment and replayability

Love this game!. So glad it was updated somewhat recently. I’d love to play this in person but don’t know of anyone who would, so this is a godsend.

Addictive!. An extremely addictive trick-taking / card shedding game! I played this with my friends, and realized how fun the game is. The app is extremely well put together and the AI seems to be good competition!

Much improved!. I've deleted my first review, because the glitches have been fixed. It still isn't perfect, but it's really good. I have discovered that if I have great cards and don't call Tichu, I get punished! True! I'll start getting crummy cards in subsequent deals. For instance, my next hands will have only one face card, a jack or queen. The other cards will be low value, with only low pairs and no straights. So I am forced to be bold. You can read other peoples' reviews for the basics.

Love the game, can no longer invite friends. Hi, please update the app to allow invitations to play with friends. It has stopped working since one of the last iPhone updates.

Great way to learn. I have friends that play Tichu regularly and I’ve been left out since I don’t know how to play and they’ve been far ahead in strategy. They taught me how to play recently, but I struggled with learning the right strategy. This app has helped with that immensely. Being able to adjust your opponents and try different partners has been outstanding for learning the game. It’s greatly improved my game! The partner can make some pretty bonehead moves sometimes (like taking a trick from you when you’ve called Tichu and clearly heading out). But, then again, I make some bone head moves as well. One wish - sometimes I hit Call Tichu and then play my cards, forgetting to hit ‘OK’ to confirm. I wish it would either prevent play until you hit okay or allow you to back up a round and replay.

Absorbing, partnership game.. The Chop Suey of card games, will Chinese in origin, it has definite influences of Poker and Hearts, Has replaced Contract Bridge as my favorite. There is a learning curve, but it is well worth the effort. A lifetime hobby of millions.

Fantastic!. This game is very fun with just enough strategy involved, if you like trick taking games you'll love this one!

Lots of fun. This is a very well done version of Tichu. The computer players aren't going to make any advanced plays and sometimes their lines are a bit puzzling, but it's good enough for casual play. I completely skipped the tutorial and tips since I play a lot of Tichu, but I'm glad to see other reviewers said they were so helpful. Hopefully this app will bring more Tichu players into the world. (I've encountered no bugs, by the way.)

I usually don't play games on my phone.... But Tichu has won my heart. It's like spades and poker combined. It's really simple to learn, but then there's a wold of strategy that you can grow into. Games are short and perfect for when you want to kill 12-15 minutes.

just want to play.. This game is great. I play IRL a few times a year with friends, so this app keeps me in shape so I can talk major trash to them when I see them. Keeps me sharp. The only problem is that when I open the app to play it has to show me all my accomplishments. It gets annoying and I haven’t figured out how to turn off the in game notifications. I recommend this game.

This game needs an update. This game runs horribly and is always crashing. If the game actually worked there’d probably be more people playing, but very few people are online at any given time so it takes forever to find a game, that is if it doesn’t crash before finding a match… Just update it plz Tichu is so fun and this app could be good. I paid 3 bucks man come on. The free tichu online app is better.

Old Friend. Been playing for years and years and if I could only keep three games on my phone this would be one of them. The A.I. is adjustable for each player when you click on their name and it works. You can set them from stupid all the way to cheating. Gameplay, graphics, design, and sound are at a point that I honestly can't think of a reasonable improvement. Not sure I've ever said that about a game before. It is that good.

App Crashes. The Tichu game crashes immediately upon opening the app. Can you look into it and fix it? I love playing this game.

Love Tichu!. I absolutely love tichu, and this has been my go to whenever I'm bored and need to waste some time.

Glitchy and bad logic. The game of Tichu is amazing! This app leaves much to be desired. Almost daily the app glitches and will just crash repeatedly when I try to play. Normally if I close it a couple times it then works but it seems to be getting worse. I had to uninstall and reinstall it a few days ago to get it to work for me, even restarting my phone would not fix it. The app has not been updated in 5 years, so who the F@&$ knows why it just prompted me to give a review. Please update!!!!!! Trying to ply online with friends almost never works. The computer intelligence is a bad combination of card counters and complete idiots. There are little nonsensical rules they follow that make my partner screw me over in ways that make no sense. Like playing the 1 late in a hand after they have seen the opponent play the card they gave, they always still ask for the card anyway. But with the computer intelligence set to expert it is clear as each hand comes to a close that the computers have counted the cards perfectly, or even know who has what cards. I would give it less than 3 stars but unfortunately I think it is the best Tichu app out there.

Disappointed. As a single player game, and recreating the game of Tichu, this app does a great job, but it says you can play online and local multiplayer and you can’t. Neither work...at all, not in the slightest. I would give it a five star review if it did. Reached out the to the developer and not a response at all. Super disappointed. Trying to get a refund....

Who doesn't love Tichu?. I've played this game before, so I was apprehensive if an app would translate well. I can confirm that the game is just as good, even on an app! For newbies: the game also provides in-game hints and instructions before you start! If you're looking for a new shedding card game with trick-taking elements and lots of fun, then you've found it!

Great Game, but no multiplayer ?. I love this game, and the ai for solo play is great(although sometimes seems psychic, still a great challenge). I think the multiplayer functionality has become broken after years of no updates. My girlfriend and I cannot get it to work on Bluetooth or online, we can attempt to join the same lobby but the game stays saying “Connecting…” with the spinning loader forever. It is a shame, since the rest of the game is a pretty good experience.

Great app for a great game. Good tutorial, great reference material and very efficient app for the classic of Tichu. Some things will seem weird at first when you are learning to use the app but those things make playing the game so much faster and better once you get used to it

Fun, but please fix the bugs. I really enjoy playing this game. The tutorial is fast, clear and useful. My only beef is that there are frequent crashes that cause me to have to delete and reinstall

The worst AI of any game I've ever seen. After hundreds of plays, I just cannot pretend this game isn't complete trash anymore. At first, it scratched the solo Tichu itch. Then it became abundantly clear the AI (at any level) cheats for your opponents, yet you are stuck with a mindless, sabotaging, trash partner. There's literally zero sense to how they play, yet your opponents play perfectly as if playing with real people and our cards were face up. I'm convinced the AI for your partner is setup to aid the other team. There's countless examples of it: winning and not helping you, even when you call Tichu, trading useless junk when Tichu is called, and on and on. I wish I had more hands to give this garbage AI four thumbs down!

Pretty good game but..... I have played this game for a few years and enjoy both the design and AI. But when playing with my wife via bluetooth the game is unreliable. We keep getting kicked off after playing for 20-30 min and sometines cannot rejoin. This issue has been there for years.

Dumb partner. Does your partner just go on stupid mode when all AI are set to the hardest level? It’s so hard to imagine why your partner would waste bombs taking the trick you’re about to win after you called Tichu, or laying cards which obviously will give the other team the lead. It gets so frustrating. And I’m not sure hardest difficulty means they play harder. It seems like they have more bombs when they call grand/tichu than my team....

Fun but needs refining. I find that the play of the computer is a bit flawed. Specifically the cards it chooses to play are not natural. The biggest issue I have is how it deals cards. I have never come across so many bombs when playing with real cards. There must be a flaw in the coding / data

Crashes often... Almost unplayable. I really like the game and when it works, it's 5 stars. Unfortunately, it crashes a ton... I almost should give this a worse score... Hopefully they fix the bug and it becomes a 5 star game again

Great app!. Lots of fun. Occasional weird decisions the computer makes, but that's just like real life! Easy to use and easy to play. I would like more statistics to help me with my game. 1. How many rounds won my me without a Tichu call. 2. How many rounds? Who went out first second third and last? Thank you!

Great card game. I found this app after playing this game at work a lot. Really enjoy it. The ai is pretty good too.

Addictive. Lots of fun

brilliant card game. Great app of a fantastic game. 2 bugs currently: - app crashes when you hit 'new game' at conclusion of a game. - every game center achievement ever comes up as notification at least once a day. On another note, would love to see the tichu cards and engine utilised for other related games such as Big 2, President, and Gang of Four!

Tichuuuuuuuuu!. Great version of the great game.

Very nice rendition. Well produced version of this title. Would have loved an Internet enabled version. 5 stars for me with the excellent tutorial and Bluetooth linking as key highlights.

Nice game. The app itself is great, however I still struggle to find people online to play real time

One of my favourite games brilliantly developed. The game works well and is highly addictive. I am in love.

Fix the bug, please!!!. Tichu doesn’t work on my phone since last update. Please fix the problem

Very well crafted adaption. This is an excellent way to implement a card game. Beautiful UI, very easy to use, nice sound effects, just perfect. I've been having a ball playing this. The latest version (1.5) has a performance issue that causes it to occasionally hang for 10 seconds or so, and then resume again. (This problem was not present in the preceding version.) This bug doesn't stop me from giving the 5-star rating (but it would be nice to have this fixed soon). Highly recommended if you like Tichu! And, if you don't know Tichu yet, buy this anyway. Chances are that if you like card games, you'll be hooked in no time at all.

Good adaption. This is a good adaption of a multiplayer caravans. While not intuitive, it has rules which are easy to reference as well as tutorials and hints. The AI's are a challenge to play with and against. I am yet to try it multiplayer so I cannot comment on that.

Bombs away. Massively popular niche card game ported to the iPhone/iPod touch! The premise and the publisher should make this a must buy if you like this sort of thing. I like most the tutorial programme: engaging and thorough. The AI should satisfy most fans, and it offers iPod support and auto save - perfect if your phone likes to ring. If you haven't checked out Mü from this publisher I highly recommend that as an alternative. Given the popularity of Tichu I suspect this will be more popular... and both are very well done. (iPhone 3GS on OS 4.0.2)

Love it!. Great to play a game where you can keep improving your strategies and skills. I am spending way too much time playing Tichu :)

Needs a little tweaking. Love the look and feel but the AI needs a little work. When I have a Grand Tichu hand and my partner leads their smallest single card when the guy preceding me has only one card left, then something is not quite right. And your partner going out when you've called Tichu is a bit too frequent for my liking. Having played this hundreds of times with real people you can forgive the odd mistake but logic usually wins through. I'd also like to see the bomb button closer to a thumb position for ease of play.

Great version of the world's finest card game. At last!. I've been waiting for this for a long long time. Beautifully done. As good as the developer's earlier version of Mu. Thanks!

Amazing. This game is just amazing I took a chance knowing nothing about it and it's one of my favorite apps I have

Still one of my fave apps one year on. An excellent game that never gets old. The app's interface is smooth and reliable. I like that it keeps track of stats too.

Great game, well implemented!. Tichu is a fantastic card game and this app is an excellent version of it. The art work is gorgeous on both the iPhone and iPad (even retina) and the AI plays a smart and well-strategized game. I love that you can tune the AI's skill level and play style. Thanks for this fun game!

Wow. Best card game I've played in a loooong while!!!

Addicted!. Learned Tichu with this app, the classic "grow on you" grasp me and now i'm a Tichu junky!!

Enjoy. An amazing card game. The Apps' great.

If you like tichu it is a no-brained. Well done interface and computer players are competent

Very fun!. You will like it, worth every penny

Great card game. Great game. Good implementation.

Très bon jeu. Le tutoriel est bien fait. Facile et amusant. Seul bémol, en anglais seulement.

love it!. takes a bit of effort to learn but the payoff is incredible. best card game ever, perfect balance of strategy, luck and fun. Top 3 games ever invented. Desert island pick.

Easy card game and good app!. Easy card game and good app!

Perfect. Great game and great app no issues

Awesome!. I love this game - this app is great!!! I play every night when putting my baby to bed or on the bus. You can put it down and pick up where you left off. I find it very addictive and therapeutic at the same time. Big thumbs up to the creators of this app!!

Great ladder game!. Superb! Great for people who have never played tichu too!

Great game, great app. The graphics could be better and there is no online mode. But excellent AI implementation for solo games

My only wish is that everyone played this!. This is the absolute best card game. A bit hard to learn at first but once you get past the learning curve, you begin to see the beauty of this game. My only gripe is that I get the feeling the cards are not random. There's a bomb almost every game and those who play this game for real know that a bomb is not played that often. It often seems that the cards are dealt to ensure "exciting" plays every time. I might be crazy but man, often I can't believe the cards the AI is dealt! Other than that, it's a great app. Worth the money for sure. If you do decide to join the Tichu train, spread the word! We need more players!

Very fun game! But.... ...too bad it’s too hard to find an online opponent. Playing versus the AI is ok but id rather play an actual human.

Exceeds expectations!. Whenever you buy an App with Artificial Intelligence playing the role of players, one almost expect the system to be either an easy 'prey' or to 'cheat' to make it interesting for the human in the loop. Tichu (iPad) has wonderful opponents that, if set to very good & aggressive will you steal run for your money. In fact, I have adjusted my style to beat them, and as a consequence of my 'training' I was able to improve my performance versus live opponents. Ok, the AI makes some poor plays sometimes, especially in the en d game, but overall you would be hard pressed to find this quality of opposition on most days. The sound effects are good and add to the experience. I wish there was a way to say 'Pass' until the end, when you can't or won't take any more tricks, and that the 1-2-3 count could somehow be expedited but these are minor pet peeves when compared to the ability to have opponents whenever you are available to play a hand or two. Recommended.

Crashes. Don’t pay for these terrible app, it crashes as soon as the guidance is over. It hasn’t been updated for 7 years!

Tichu fan!!!. Great game. I love playing Tichu in RL and now I can scratch that itch when I don't have three friends handy. I haven't tested out all levels of the AI but they are relatively challenging even if I don't always agree with the play ;)

Great game...small irks. The game itself plays great but the GameCenter integration has some glitches in it.

Virtual players very erratic !. Virtual players seemed to be programmed to sabotage the game sometimes. They sometimes make Tichu bids that have absolutely no chance of being made . Your virtual partner will sometimes beat the card you have played even though they don’t have enough good cards of their own to go out on their bid. Virtual players will try to win a minor trick at all costs , divulging themselves of winning cards. They always use four aces as a bomb even though most of the time using the four aces individually is the most successful play. The graphics and mechanics of the play are excellent, however.

High quality game. Jeu de haute qualité

So far it's great. Entertaining card game.

Great Overall. AI could some improvements in certain scenarios, but overall this game plays extremely well. Very faithful game dynamics to the original card game.

Great app!. Great trick game!! The app is clean, easy to use provides good instruction and is challenging.

Best card game ever. This is a climbing game and is my favorite card game, better than 500 or Wizard. This app is a great implementation. Worth the purchase!

Djr. Above average card game needing much forward thinking.

Help. Hey guys I absolutely love this game but every time I try to create a multi player Loco invite a friend online I can never get it to work even when I have another iPhone and an iPad etc. help would be greatly appreciated

Best substitute for the real thing. Don't have enough friends who play and this is as real as it gets

Great game but multiplayer needs work. Mutiplayer games over local and Game Center drop easily with no ability to rejoin. Tichu is a time tested game and it's much fun to play with the AI but the devs need to iron out the multiplayer bugs to earn a 5 star rating that Tichu deserves.

Grity game!. Like spinning plates, tichu is a delicate balance between going for the gusto and having everything crash down in front of the audience. I will get better at this game!

Pop up ratings nags. Rated 1 star until the app stops nagging for ratings and stops advertising for other (also abandoned) apps.

Card lovers. Great game. Not many card games have partners. If you enjoyed big 2, this game is similar but different at the same time. The music is a bonus and the card designs are unique. I am definitely hooked to this.

Great game. Love this game!! Very addicting:)

Stellar game. The rules seem arbitrary at first, but there is a subtle elegance to them. Highly addictive! What a great game. Good for learning the actual card game, too.

Great Game!. Great game that I play far too much. No problems but the AI could be a little better ... Or maybe it's me

Awesome way to learn Tichu. I had only played Tichu once before, so I basically had to relearn the game on my iPhone. It was really easy to pick it up again using this app. Awesome implementation! 5 Stars for sure!

Fun!. I would like double taps to swing through hands... But still, excellent implementation of a good game.

Fun. Great game. Good tutorial

Very good. The game plays very well. Takes care of all of the fiddly bits for you while still being a full play experience. Would be nice if the animations were a tad faster and if interacting with your hand wasn't so tedious but they're minor niggles on a great implementation. Very pretty, has multiplayer...can't ask for much more.

Great implementation of an awesome game. Tichu is a great partnership game. It is probably the best ladder climbing game. And this implementation of the game truly shines. It is by no mean an easy game to learn or to master. But it is definitively worth all the time and effort you will put in this game. The ipad version rocks!

Really great. Just like the card game. Very good app.

Great Card Game. It remembers where you left off so you can put it down if you have to. But good luck with that. Once I start, it's usually a battle to the end. AI is not bad either. Better than most partners I've had in the real life version of this game, but it can be a stinker and mess with your Grand Tichu call. The skill level is totally customizable for each opponent and playing at the best skill level is a challenge. Only negative thing, I wish I could forfeit a game. You have to play it out which can be annoying at times.

Fantastic blend of my favourite games. At first I thought it was this game janitor or president. But with poker hands. And unique wild cards. And some betting. Then I quit trying to figure out what it was most like and just enjoyed it. It is great because there are so many levels to it. You want to go out first, but you also need to pay attention to what is in the tricks you are winning for points and the most powerful cards always have a dark side. Amazing game. If you love card games, this is kind of like the all star team with the best of each genre rolled into one. Just play it and you’ll see.

Four and a half stars. Tichu is a very popular "ladder" card game that has more depth than first appear. This app is a phenomenal way to learn how to play and gives you the opportunity to mess up with a partner who will never yell at you, no matter how badly you're playing! I've heard some grousing that the AI isn't spectacular, but I've found it to be challenging enough. Considering how much is going on here, I consider this to be an amazing feat of AI programming. My only small complaint is that in the new version (1.2), the interface for launching a new game isn't explained very well. it took me forever to figure out that you needed to double-tap. Even then, it doesn't work cleanly every time. But that's the only blemish on an app that has otherwise consumed more of my leisure time than any other.

Excellent!!. Kudos for this excellent port of an addictive game.

Very enjoyable game. Most card games I get bored of pretty quickly, but this one is very entertaining and has a lot of strategy to it. Recommended!

Fun. Fun game. AI is ok.

Amazing implementation of the card game. I've owned a couple of real physical Tichu decks for years now, but I've never been able to play it because I've never been able to learn the rules well enough to feel comfortable introducing it to other players. So it sat on my shelf, despite the fact that I knew it had the reputation of being an outstanding card game. It seemed far too intimidating to learn on my own. So when this iPhone Tichu app came out I snagged it in an instant. I'm so grateful for this app, because it has finally taught me the game that always seemed just out of my reach. I'll be introducing this to the game group very soon, and I'll be playing this iPhone app over and over in the future to hone my strategy and tactics. What an amazingly polished and fun app! This is my best iPhone app purchase in a very very long time.

best...game...ever. needs more players 😁

Incredible adaptation of the card game - Perfection in an app!. If you've ever played Tichu, you'll love this app...it's amazing on an iPhone and even better on an iPad. No longer will you need four players to play Tichu, as the computer opponents (and partner) are highly skilled, and provide a challenge for even the best Tichu players. But if you have three other players, you can all link together and play (we did this in a restaurant where there just wouldn't have been enough room for the cards). The graphics are perfect, the sounds add just the right amount of auditory cues, and the AI is simply amazing. Loads of settings and options make this the best adaptation of any card game. If you haven't played Tichu, you'll learn it quickly thanks to the tutorial and tips (which can be disabled at any time). Learn why 342 million Chinese play Tichu every day!! :)

Best game ever. Loved this game for years. So happy to be able to play any time I want.

Multiplayer. Please fix “invite any friend”

The best app. I love this app. It's a great version of tichu. It's really well made. You should buy it.

Not Perfect But Good Enough. And it’s Tichu, so it gets 5 stars. Best substitute for 3 friends and some beer.

TICHU. I have really enjoyed learning to play Tichu. It allows you to break some rules that are standard rules in so many games that it is very different and refreshing. A seven year old and a ten year old I was traveling with both learned the game fairly easily. I had read the rules, they just watched and caught on. We all enjoy it. The app seems to work flawlessly. we would like to be able to play it with real cards. We are looking for a set of cards. Good game; good app. It quickly became a family favorite.

Great!. Fantastic app. Buy it!

Fun ladder trick taking game.. The game is fun and has a great tutorial. I purchased solely to learn the rules but now I'm hooked.

Gone bad. Once the game worked fine then now it has several problems after I updated to the latest iOS 8.2. Now the game closes unexpectedly but when I start it up again it is in the same place in the the game when it closed. If I click on a card in error I can't get it to minimize again. I try quite game and can't find out how to do that I use to be able to just start a new game if I did but I can't do that either. It says there aren't any updates either

GREAT BRAIN EXERCISE. This is a sophisticated partnership game with many layers of finesse. Difficult to learn in real time so this is a great learning tool!

Does it’s job perfectly. I didn't know how to play Tichu, but now I do and Tichu is a great game.

An Excellent Card Game. I picked this game up with no knowledge of Tichu several years ago and can safely say it's one of my favorite games. The app's instruction manual is very well written for a game like this, and the freedom to play with (in my opinion) well designed AI leads to an intuitive method of learning the game and some strategy. If you like card games (especially similar games like bridge, spades, 13, etc.), this is a fantastic way to learn and play a great one.

Tichu. Great game and app

Multiplayer is a joke. Haven’t been able to successfully start a multiplayer game with this app, which I’ve had over a year.

Fantastic app, devoted developer. Tichu is one of the best card games of all time, and until now I figured no programmer would bother trying to deal with the problems posed by the game's complexity. Glad I was wrong. The graphics (which take advantage of the Retina display), UI, tutorial, and multiplayer modes are superb. The programmer personally responded to my question regarding a bug I encountered and has already fixed it. Terrific customer service from an outstanding developer. Thanks!

Terrible AI ruins it. “Worst” and “Poor” difficulty settings are too easy, but go up just one more to “Normal” and the AI plays perfectly. Your AI partner is also trash even when setting them to “Best” where they can literally see everyone’s hands. Tichu is a great game but the AI ruins it.

Great game. I've played card games from Magic to Ascension to Poker and Cribbage and this game surely fits that bill. Relatively easy game to pick up but it offers a good amount of depth. It has elements of strategy, reasoning and deduction that I really enjoy in a game. You play as a team which is something that you don't find so often in card games but is very nice to have incorporated. I first purchased this app to give the game a trial run now I'm most likely going buy the physical game which I'm sure will hit the table a lot

Fantastic game!. Great app! This is an amazing learning tool if you play Tichu in person. Criticisms: (1) The AI is weird, even in "Better" mode your partner will inexplicably play over you when you've called Tichu, or fail to block an opponent from going out on a Tichu call with the appropriate cards in hand (e.g. Dragon). (2) The option to join a random online game simply doesn't work. Maybe it would help to provide an average time estimate, as in the popular Carcassonne app? Even better, a progress indication? On my phone, the dialog box remains up until the screen locks from inactivity with no status indication whatsoever. If it takes more than a few minutes to set up a game, then it should happen in the background and start the game with a notification.

Steaze. Not only did this app introduce me to a fantastic game, it is hands down the most thoroughly professional piece of software I've purchased through the app store. Everything is there, and everything is polished. I'd let the developer design my house. As someone else mentioned, occasionally it fc's on startup, but it is literally a non issue. You never lose data and it keeps exquisite track of games. I wish all apps were in this league.

The best card game has a great app.. This is by far the best card game, and this app implementation is nearly flawless. In fact, I learned a few of the rules from this app since the early rules were rough. I'm at over 100 games now and totally love it. One complaint, the scoring is sometimes wrong. Specific example is when I win with the dragon and give it to the remaining opponent, sometimes those points will transfer to the opponent that did go out during the hand. Please fix?

Very addicting!!. Love card games so downloaded because it looked good for the price. Plays great against the computer or with bluetooth for friends or online. Going to order the hard copy cards for game nights when we are in the same room but will continue to play on Ipad across the country!! Recommend setting the computer to at least normal levels or it plays way too easy on you.

Best card game. Except for Bridge, Tichu is the best card game around. The APP works great but please add multiplayer capability.

A 5* Board Game come to App Store. If you familiar with board games this is one of my top 3 board game on my list. And now it come to App Store ! ! No reason not to buy it ! Despite it was my favorite game, I rate for 5* also because of it great art work and design on the app. Try it, I play this game with friends ever week over last years, and now I bring this card game with me to anywhere. Try ! It's not a game for everyone but it's worth trying because you might be crazy about it XD

Excellent. I highly recommend this game, which has given me countless hours of entertainment. I learned tichu from this app (and it's still mainly how I play), although I've managed to introduce it to people with a real deck. One gripe I originally had with the game was with the AI, specifically the AI partner. My girlfriend used to hear me yell expletives at "Becky" all the time. I have largely eliminated the problems by setting her mode to normal play with better intelligence. At times, I'm on the edge of my seat expecting her to totally drop the ball, but usually she plays a lot like a good human partner. Every now and then, she even surprises me by playing off cards in complex and creative ways, although I like to think I carry us (yeah my girlfriend is a little jealous of Becky). Anyway, the game is awesome, and I recommend it for learning the fantastic game of tichu, passing time indefinitely, refining strategy, and playing multiplayer when you can't do it in person.

Ai horrible!. Ui is excellent. Fun game, but Ai is pathetic. I think the Ai partner sabotages you. As someone else pointed out there are way too many bombs (a disproportionately high number for your opponents). Partner calls Tichu when there is no way they can go out first. Partner often overplays you when you have called Tichu and they have no logical way to get the lead back to you! List is endless with the stupid moves your partner (Ai) will make. Multi-player crashes too often. Overall it is a two star app because of the Ai and crashing. Not worth the money until they fix the artificial unintelligence. Also, at the higher levels of play, AI does not play any better, your opponents just get better cards dealt to them.

App crashes every time I try to play with friend. Also doesn't have an auto pass feature if you have no legal move.

AMAZING!!!. Way addictive, can't put it down! My only comments are some bugs at startup that cause it to shut down right away. Also an option to auto-pass when you have no legal play. Multiple options on how to auto-sort your cards (ie. Sort straights, duplicates, bombs) And, it might take away from the fun of the game, but for newer players, an optionally visible card counter. To see what has already been played. Great game though! Keep the updates coming.

Great implementation of a great game. Steve Blanding has done it again. He is an iPhone card game programming ninja. I've longed to be able to play Tichu against AI (since it can be tough to dig up exactly 3 other folks to play) and this app is terrific. So far my experience with the AI has only been on Normal and Better and they feel about right for my intermediate skill level. On the Better setting I tend to lose a few against my AI opponents. Be warned that cranking up the AI will take longer for them to play their turn. It was designed for 3GS at minimum but even my iPhone4 takes a few seconds per turn on the Better setting. One big suggestion for the wish list: SOUND!!! Specifically, I'd like to hear a unique cue when it's my turn again and also when a hand has concluded (for when I have to sit and wait for everyone to play out the hand). And...um...a bomb sound would be most appropriate when bombing! (duh). I'll not withhold a star from my rating for my minor wishes. The app is amazing and the presentation is wonderful. Lots of great animations and...drumroll please...it supports the hi-res retina display. If you don't know how to play Tichu, this is a great way to get your feet wet. It's a fantastic game and a tutorial mode is included with the game.

Tichu 2021. This is a very good app to use to learn Tichu. Unfortunately, it started to crash recently to a point to where I had to uninstall it. It worked so well for so long....

Nice gameplay, a bit quirky. I've played a bunch of real life Tichu in my time, and this game is a ton of fun. On the iPhone it's hard to choose cards to play because there's so little tap room. I wish the game could auto pass if you can't beat the top card (there may be a setting for it but I haven't found it). The strategies of the AI players are also strange, but generally lawful and good. All game mechanics and edge cases are covered, which is awesome! Looking forward to playing with friends.

Great game!. I love Tichu and the app allows you to play it all the time.

Very close to the real thing. This is about as close to the feeling of playing a game of Tichu with real playing cards as you can get. The AI is challenging (if slow on my 1st gen iPhone, but bearable), the artwork, animations, the UI maneuverability is great, and the rules are very accurate and faithful to the game. I highly recommend this game to card game players, even if you're not familiar with Tichu. Of standard card games, it's closest, I'd say, to Hearts (it's a trick taking, stacking game). I'd also recommend it to people with older compatible hardware with a little bit of patience that have concerns that it is too slow to be playable. Just don't bump the AI difficulty above 'Normal', and AI turns shouldn't take any longer than ~30secs, and most times much quicker than that (10-15 secs).

Awesome. Bought this to learn the game and help me decide whether to buy a physical copy. The game is a lot of fun and the iOS version is excellent — months later I bought the physical version which is also great. AI is good, graphics and sound are great at representing what is going on, and the double-tap feature to quickly select a possible play makes the game fast and delightful to play (without ruining the fun of coming up with your own play, once you know what you're doing). Highly recommended to anybody who likes card games, especially trick-taking, partner, and bidding games. Tichu has quickly surpassed Rook and Euchre as two of my favorite games in the genre. It's kind of tricky to get local multiplayer going, but once you do, it works great.

crash. the app has been crashing so bad. help!

Not the great dalmuti. Eh

Cannot open it anymore. The app doesn’t work anymore.

Terrible unless your play on poor and beginner.. Even on normal level the opponent the AI ALWAYS has a better hand. ALWAYS. WASTE OF MONEY! Also the app has started freezing up now.

Tichu. APP closes automatically every time you start a multiplayer game. Very disappointed after paying $3.00

fun, but. fun, but i think that the cards and the colors are ugly. i am sure that gameplay would seem improved if it were more attractive.

I love tichu!. Now I don't have to get 3 other person to play tichu whenever I have a itch! This app is a good adaptation of the game and the AI is actually somewhat human like, which is very hard to do. The programmer Steve is very responsive to any questions and bug reports anyone reported too. I am sure with some minor bug fixes and future AI improvements this app will be perfect. I am already playing it everyday with my husbands itouch and it works pretty well with bluetooth. I think with iphone4 there is an known Bluetooth problem so sometimes it disconnects but that is prob the phones problem anyway. If you love tichu you simply must buy this game. One because it's a nice game, two it's important to support boardgame developers so we will see more boardgames in the digital form in the future.

Fix online play. Would rate higher but purchased to play with friends online which does not work, crashes every time link is established

Great game, but annoying AI. Been playing Tichu for years, and it is one of my all-time favourite games, so it was one of my first purchases when I got my iPad. I've now played a couple of hundred hands, and while I absolutely love the game and the implementation, the AI is driving me insane... At the highest level, the AI players obviously know what is in my hand. Wishing for cards they did not pass me (particularly if they are part of a bomb), playing cards in unusual order to give their partner an advantage over me, etc. I still win a lot, but I found that I have to alter my strategy to never take risks, which is annoying (and takes a lot of the challenge out of the game). Playing at the mid-level AI makes the game a bit more realistic (strategy-wise), but I find that I want to murder my AI partner in many games. Insane Tichu and Grand Tichu calls, moronic card plays, holding winning cards while the other team goes out, etc. So, I have the choice of playing with opponents who cheat, or a weak partner. Give me a strong AI that does not look in my hand and this game will be an easy 5-star (and win me back from Mu), but until I can play a solid game with some calculated risks I can't give it more than 4 stars.

Multiplayer is permanently broken. Not maintained and multiplayer is broken.

Best game ever!!. My sister in law introduced the real card game to me and we played it with our family all of our Christmas break. She told me it was fun as an app too so I bought it. It takes a while to figure out how to play but it is sooo addicting and fun! My husband and I sync our phones or iPads and play for hours. We play against each other with a computer player on each of our teams. It's a blasty blast!

Brilliant and addictive!. Tichu (the actual card game) has been one of my favorite games ever since a friend introduced me to it around five years ago. This translation to iDevices just reinforces how good it is. The cards are beautiful, the score sheet is clear, the sound effects are unobtrusive and fun, and the AIs do just fine (I haven't tried "expert" opponents, because those cheat). I've yet to try the online or local friend modes, so I can't comment on those. My only nits are very minor: 1. The music soundtrack is just one song that gets tiresome after a half dozen or so games. 2. On the iPhone, it's sometimes difficult to select a card early in a hand, as the exposed area is so small. 3. You can unselect most cards before you play them, but when you select the Mah Jong the wish selector prohibits it. 4. It is TOO MUCH fun, making it really hard to put down, resulting in a loss of sleep :-). Suggested enhancements for future versions: 1. Provide an option to sort bombs to one side or the other. 2. Fix item 3 above. 3. Provide an option to auto-pass when you have no legal play (e.g., you have one card and a pair is led). 4. Provide some way to dismiss a completed hand before the three-second review period is done. Despite a few areas for improvement as noted above, this is still the most fun, and the most addictive game I own today - I've stopped playing anything else on my phone AND on my iPad. Completely excellent!

Great game and app, iffy AI.. This app is amazing and is truly an achievement. It's a great learning tool and a great implementation of the game. If you're a newbie, it's a great way to learn the game and get introduced to basic strategy. Seasoned players, however, will find this app a bit frustrating. My main gripe is that the AI of the partner is not great at times. My computerized partner frequently plays the dragon, Phoenix and bombs on top of my aces, goes out before me when I call Tichu, and always fails catastrophically when she calls Tichu on her own. Changing the difficulty levels to higher only makes this behavior worse. The other computerized players seem to play with decent strategy, but even after I've played all my cards and I'm able to see everybody's cards, I watch as my teammate plays weird play after weird play, breaking up combinations that can easy capture the lead and win, to end up being the last player with cards. I'm not the best Tichu player, but it's frustrating to have my strategy frequently stomped all over by my teammate, and never because she has a strategy of her own: more than once, she's bombed MY 10-Ace straight and then followed up to lead with a single card. It makes the game almost unplayable at times when you're about to handily win a Tichu, stuck with a low pair (or something similar) left in your hand, and your PARTNER bombs it away from you.

So good. All I can think now is, "I'm going to Tichu, Tichu, Tichu - the electric sliiiiide."

So Addictive!!!!. I am absolutely in LOVE with this game! I'm a bartender by trade. I never understood why one of my friends played this game for hours on end. I would watch him play non-stop and wonder what was so amazing about this game. I finally couldn't take it anymore! lol. I bought the game out of mere curiosity. The first night, I played it for 6 hours straight and found myself sleeping in the wee hours of the morning. So addictive!!!! (To the man with the paper cranes in his bathroom; thanks for sharing ;) )
