Missing Functionality. I'd give the app 5 stars if they only included one extra function: the ability to search, and play music from Apple Music rather than what's "saved" to your library. I have my computer hooked up to a DAC, which is then connected to my HiFi system. The fact that you can only pause/fast forward music searched for on my computer (on Apple Music) is pretty ridiculous considering how well everything else in Apple's ecosystem works flawlessly.

Apple Watch app?. I’ve been using this app for years. It’s a fantastic app for playing my music library from my iMac to my Apple TV’s. I have 4 older Apple TV’s in different rooms connected to audio sound systems. I also use 1 HomePod. I can control each room for what I want to play and the volume for each. One request, I wish this app was available for the Apple Watch.

Why colony house music is perfect for a heist movie. The reason the song oh ya from rotten tomatoes is perfect for an opening is because it’s talking about counterfeit and monte cristo. The reason the song remembered for is great is because it is showing they are thieving and are trying to be somebody’s. The song cannonballers is awesome for a heist is because it’s talking about the cannonballer thieves. I could put in more examples, but this is just enough.

Edited, working fantastically. After this latest update and MacOS update, working swimmingly. I love that my whole house AirPlay Setup works as designed once again! Old rating: Had I known about the iTunes remote breaking when this Catalina upgrade came about, it would have been a deal breaker. I’ve had this app for years and used it regularly to stream music to all my airplay speakers. Worked wonderfully. I put Catalina on my mac, and it’s broken. Apple would be wise to fix, with all the issues with the iOS and macOS, which they absurdly and uncharacteristically botched, and the anger in the community over this among other “losses”, which outweigh the “enhancements”. Apple, you were better than this.

Useful but could be better. Pretty good app. Controls music play at the most basic level. where I personally dislike it is the way it switches to a full screen displaying just the one current song of a playlist. To get the whole list you have to use a back button. This is just a pain when you want to see and choose from many songs. If you don’t actively interact this way during listening then you probably won’t have any problems with this app.

Sorts Library items alphabetically instead of by Episode number. Yes the app works again but it's sorting my Library items alphabetically instead of by Episode number. Super irritating to have to make a playlist or manually add episode numbers to the titles just for them to display in the correct order. At least give us a sorting option! It doesn't even match the macOS version display...keep it consistent Apple!!

Buggy and feature incomplete, bigly. Such a simple notion: control Apple Music from your iOS device. How hard could it be, if youre already Apple, to modify the existing Music app on iOS to control a remote Music app on MacOS? But no. Right off the bat you can tell this was some half-baked summer intern project that’s not been maintained: doesnt work in landscape mode, Now Playing doesnt rotate to the current orientation at all (ie is upside down is the power cord to your phone is on the top, as it is on a stand), and there is seemingly no way to select music to be played from anything other than your physical music Library. Huh? Basically, all I can do with it is pause/unpause/skip songs *after I start playing them on my Mac*!! It wont even wake up the Mac! C’mon Apple! You’re better than this!

Worked forever - but now broken…. One of my key apps on iPhone and iPad. Until I made a mistake and signed out of HomeSharing. I can’t sign in again. Yes, I can flip the switch to “green” - and it asks me if I want to sign in with my or some other Apple ID. Either way, this is the end. It’s not signing me in: The next time I re-start this app, the “home sharing” is off again. As a result, I can’t use it anymore to control my Apple TV (a music library I can add manually). Please fix this!

Good, but not as good as iTunes. The app is great. I listen to my music from a Mac mini (no screen no keyboard) and this app makes it possible. However, a few features more would make it perfect: 1. To be able to control shuffle mode: I have not been able to switch from song to album shuffle and back from the remote app. 2. When I choose to view the music by genres I get to see the songs and not the albums. As most of my music is classical, this is quite a disappointment. I hope this could be mended and it would make an unbeatable app. It Would be great to keep up with the new iTunes. Btw, aren't you working on an app to control the whole of the Mac mini from my iPad?

Volume control. I like this app, I really do. I like everything about the Remote app, but the side volume buttons on your phone should control the volume on your computer. That’s how it was when I had iPhone3. I miss that functionality. Don’t get me wrong. This app works perfectly. It doesn’t crash. It does what it supposed to. It just doesn’t do what a former version did, and I miss it.

Awesome for controlling Music & Videos on a Mac and older Apple TV, but can’t search Apple Music. This app makes it so easy to search and control a 3rd gen Apple TV, since you can use a keyboard to enter your search. It’s also great for playing music and videos from a Mac – you can even change where it AirPlays to, which is awesome. What it lacks is the ability to search Apple Music if you’ve got a subscription. It only finds songs already added to your library. I have a playlist of internet streams, which it finds, which is great.. Trying to connect to a Mac that is sleeping is hit and miss. I wish I could always remotely wake it and start some tunes.

100% TOTAL GARBAGE. I’ve had iOS devices since my iPhone 4s. (Back in 2011) This app used to occasionally work back then. Occasionally, if you tried really hard, you might be able to get it to work. Not anymore. You can try all you want. It won’t work on my iPads. It won’t work on my iPhones. It won’t work on my Apple Watches. It just doesn’t work at all… anywhere. I’ve called Apple Support many times, and they can’t help either. They can’t explain all the bazaar behaviors. They can’t explain why Apple TV recognizes it, but it still doesn’t work. They can’t explain why my iPhone shows up multiple times on Apple TV. They can’t explain why my Apple TV shows up multiple times on my watch. They can’t explain why Home Sharing doesn’t work. (Never reliably did, that I can recall.) Apple once took pride in their products, but that was because the company’s founder cared. With his passing, so went the company’s pride, and its quality products. It’s a shame. A real shame.

barely works with Apple Music. everyday i try to use this app to control the Apple Music on my Mac Book Pro. if i can actually get it to connect it usually take near half and hour of trying to connect. if, and that is a very rare if, i am able to get it connected the app lags and will crash sometimes. then i either start the process over again or give up out of frustration. please fix this. an app is rarely perfect but i think it should work most of the time instead of almost never like this app.

Works Great, When It Works. For the most part, it does work correctly, controlling the sound from the Mac via Wi-Fi, but even on Gigabit Ethernet, it still loses connection with the Mac at intermittent intervals. As a result, it’s great to use only for personal projects, and not for professional use. If Apple could give people the option of controlling their music via Bluetooth, or improve the Wi-Fi connectivity of this app, it would be great to use.

It’s back, and that’s a very good thing.. Been in the throes of this music playing use case since my first airports expresses bought in early 2005. Glad Apple saw the value in bringing it to Catalina and the mobile OSes. Keep it, please. Only drawback in the past number of years is that synchronicity among active airport expresses was better for my setup during the middle of the period since 2005 than in the beginning and more recently. Got better and then got worse.

Not so great. Like everything associated with iTunes or the new Apple Music, the remote app is just so-so. I’ve been using Macs since 1985 and I’d gotten used to great care being paid to what Apple used to call human factors engineering, what we now call user-interface design. itunes’ design was so poor you’d swear it was written by Microsoft. Apple Music is worse, if that’s possible. The Remote app works — if everything is painstakingly set up — most of the time. There are limitations about what you can do with playlists that don’t make sense, especially in a closed environment where everything is designed send coded by one company. A big company. A company with lots of money. Money it seems not to want to spend on getting music streaming right.

A simply fantastic app.. The Apple Remote app is both simple to use and advanced in its functionality. It is *so* nice to be able to quickly and responsively control the music throughout my home. Being able to connect to and control volume on our numerous HomePods, AirPlay 2 Connected speakers, and Apple TV’s is very helpful and makes the entire sound system much more cohesive.

Missing key feature. This is one of the most used apps I have on my IOS devices, using it to control a headless Mac mini music server. There are no iTunes alternatives available I’m aware off, as such it is important to me that it continues to remain relevant. For the most part it works flawlessly with a local music library, what it doesn’t do is quite astonishing, it doesn’t allow selecting music from Apple Music. If I choose an album or song in Apple Music using Remote Desktop from a Mac and then start iTunes Remote on iPad it appears in now playing and functions normally so it seems feasible. Please Apple update this app with Apple Music functionality, don’t make me email Tim Cook over such an obvious shortcoming. Updated: Apple is rolling out lossless HiRez Apple Music soon, yet this their only remote app for controlling the Music App still cannot see any of the Apple Music streaming stuff. While Roon and Audirvana's remote apps can do just that with their apps controlling HiRez streaming services like Qobuz and Tidal.

It kinda works, but.... Apple seems to have orphaned this app since they want people to be so irritated by its lack of even the smallest features to help people use it that they switch to paid Apple Music subscriptions. When I view my music library in BluOS App, and select Genre I can then view songs, composers, albums, artists, etc. But in Apple Remote I can only see songs grouped by album. Annoying if you are trying to find an album in a genre among many. What I would love would be the column browser from iTunes in the iPad app, that is and always has been the most flexible tool for finding stuff. Ironically its one of the most ancient, since like the rest of the original Macintosh UI they cribbed it from the Smalltalk browser of the Xerox Alto from the 70s.

Rating problems iPhone & Missing artwork on iPad version. We’ve come to rely on this app in lockdown. Only two bugs come to mind. iPhone Only: if we rate a song then the only way to rate another is to quit the app and restart. iPad only lots of artwork is missing unfortunately. It’s there in iTunes. I’ve found a labor-intensive workaround but it isn’t permanent. We’ve tried removing and reinstalling the apps but that doesn’t fix anything. That aside, it is largely reliable. I do have two requests: On iOS: allow split screen view. On iOS and iPadOS: be to either add more playlist management functionality and/or to remove the easy ability to delete playlists. We have lots of them (normal and smart) that are too easy to accidentally delete. On iTunes there’s an “are you sure” dialogue. Since there’s no undoing such deletion (I wish!), then this feels reckless.

I would trade my left arm for them to update this app. It does so many things well, things other Apple apps could learn from. The ability to rate a song just by tapping the album art is great. The ability to easily navigate a mp3 library also. I wish it was able to shuffle albums, I wish I could change the view settings on playlists. Knowing apple will never touch it teaches me to accept the world is the way it is and my desires only serve to distance me from the way the world is.

Lossless, Apple Music Service, etc. I don’t understand how you can put out Lossless and not have a way to run it remotely. Obviously Airplay 2 doesn’t support full lossless so the best way to do it is hook a Mac up to your stereo through USB and use the stereo as a DAC. BUT this app doesn’t give access to Apple Music the SERVICE…it only allows access to what’s been added to the local library on that Mac. This app needs to work like Airplay or Apple needs to build a streamer that does work with Lossless and Airplay. I know I’m in the minority but this is a corner of the market that isn’t being served. Or just let Roon access Apple Music (again, the service).

Needs an UPDATE. This app has been a staple for home control of my music forever. However, it’s still limited to the music that I’m sharing over home sharing it will not allow me to pick up radio stations or channels that are offered by Apple Music or in the Apple Music library. For gods sake, it’s still called iTunes Remote. Apple: we love this ability and app. Isn’t it about time it became Apple Music Remote and allowed us to choose all the same great streams and music as Apple Music on the computer can?

No true Apple Watch support. Even though there is an official app for the Apple Watch, the app doesn’t have the ability to display what’s on your iPhone. It solely relies on the wifi connection. Why is that a problem? Because my WiFi is on a faster 5ghz frequency, and the Apple Watch is the only Apple device I own that doesn’t support 5ghz. Therefor I cannot use my Apple Watch with the remote app. However because my mac and iPhone are both connected to the 5ghz the Remote App works on the iPhone. Why can I not use the existing connection between the iPhone and Apple Watch to control the Remote App on the iPhone??? Why doesn’t Apple step up and release an Apple Watch with 5ghz support???

Needs to be updated to support Apple Music. The remote app has been a great application for nearly a decade. I feel as though this app can be improved by making the compatibility with Apple Music greater. For example, we are unable to search for songs that are not in our library and the controlled and customization is incredibly limited. It would be amazing if we could stream songs that were in our library as well as in Apple Music itself.

One of my most-used apps. If you like to play music on iTunes and use AirPlay to play music in different parts of the house, this lets you control it via your phone. Unfortunately more recent versions have removed some nice features and support on newer versions of Mac OS is a bit rough, but I hope this App continues to work. Sadly, it seems the Apple Watch version of this no longer works as well. But this is one of the apps I’ve been using the longest and I hope it stays around for a while longer.

Fairly effective. It useful for its purpose. I personally have a really big library, over 25,000 songs downloaded and who knows how many just in iCloud, and I’m taking the scenic route in rating and loving them. It would be nice if I could “love” or “rate” them through the app, then they get added to various playlists on their own - instead of needing to stop what I’m doing, going to my computer, unlocking it, navigating to the song, and liking or rating it. Think about it.

I like this app. Very nice useful App, though recently it has stopped functioning properly, I can’t scroll left right up or down. Only click in and menu out... strange thought it might be a temporary glitch, but it hasn’t fallen back in gear for the past few days. But this app is or was awesome to have especially if you misplace your Apple TV remote not to mention all the shortcuts it holds within to get to content❣️ ...hope you all will repair the glitch soon🙏🖖🏼💖

When it works it's great. The apple TV box has to be restarted frequently because the remote app stops recognizing the apple TV box frequently. When the remote app is connected and recognizes the apple TV box it works very well, just like the Siri remote device that comes with the apple TV box. But during use the remote app always forgets about the apple TV box and then the only way to get it to work is to restart the apple TV box. I'd use it instead of the actual remote if this bug was fixed.

Love this app. My worry is that they stop supporting it. I use this to play music throughout my whole house. I have 10 Airport Express’ that control music in every room. I can turn off the music or adjust the volume with my iPad, iPhone, or my computer. I have five iPads mounted on the wall in several rooms so one doesn’t have to walk very far to adjust volume.

Needs to have an option to add stars. The app works great with low to no latency that I could notice. The only feature that I think would make this app perfect would be if they added an option to add a star rating to songs through the app. It could be added in the now tab where the three dots are, and the only option there is to show or hide the visualizer.

Stopped working on Apple Watch 4 after update to WatchOS 6.1.1. ITunes/Music Remote App stopped working on iPhone 11 pro and Apple Watch 4 after upgrade to macOS Catalina. Was resolved on both iWatch and iPhone when Catalina was upgraded to 10.5.2. However when Watch was upgraded to 6.1.1, Remote app on watch stopped working again. Hope this can be resolved soon. Also, When using Remote app on iPhone, ir doesn’t show on locked screen. Have to unlock to see whats playing.

Functional but wanting. This app does a good job playing/pausing music on another device—it finds libraries well, and works without hitches. However, it is a little lacking in some respects. The interface feels clunky and awkward compared to the Music app—e.g., the menus in Music are much more responsive, and the queue management isn’t tucked behind an “edit” mode. It also does not have the ability to select music that is on Apple Music but not in the library, which seems like an oversight given the increasingly streaming-based music ecosystem.

Disappointed in Remote changes. I have been a long standing Apple advocate for almost all products. I particularly loved the integrated nature of things even though some protocols are proprietary. iTunes was the most important app and allowed me to share my library with others and also launch and manage all music libraries across our home network and devices. It was easy and a one of a kind product suite. With the introduction of the streaming Music product Apple continuously tweets and screws with Remote App Library management and overall utility of the integration. I am really disgusted and won’t go into the more granular inconveniences but please just leave it alone! My iTunes library has over 10,000 songs that were transferred from CD’s or purchased through iTunes. Not sure when you keep making it difficult to use, unless of course you are trying to kill historical use to add streaming subscriptions. I assure you, you will NEVER get me to do that.

After nearly 4 years it works again!. I was so happy to see that Apple has updated this to work with Music (formerly iTunes). It works with the latest version of Ventura. You just have to enable media sharing in the macOS system settings, then give the login for your iTunes Media account. It works!

Connecting to a desktop iTunes library is a hassle.. I have an Apple TV connected to a receiver that feeds speeds speakers at multiple locations, living room, kitchen side porch, back porch, etc. The Apple TV is linked to an iTunes library through out home wi-fi network on a desktop computer. When trying to control iTunes using the Remote app from either an iPhone or an iPad it is hit or miss. Almost never can connect from the iPhone, sometimes from the iPad. Support from Apple is horrible. You have to luck into some user who may know what he is talking about

Fantastic little controller... with one suggestion. This is by far the most effective way to control music on a large downloaded library in a home theater or dedicated listening area from afar. Reliable, packed with features, and is simple to set up. One suggestion, though... Can you let us look up Apple Music searches through this app? It currently is library only, and while that does include Apple Music downloads and streaming, you can’t look for new searches without going to iTunes on your PC. You can play/pause once they’re going, you just manually have to search on iTunes. Please add this to the app!

Apple Music Where are you?. Catalina got rid of the forever spinning beach ball that was present in the last iteration (abortion, really) of itunes on Mojave, especially when ripping music from a cd. But remote, which has had many issues over the years, seems to have an amnesia problem, this time losing track of its host computer, even sometimes while it is playing a playlist! Only way to reconnect is by deleting the remote and reestablishing the Connection. It works for a short while and then the same thing happens. I use this with Hegel music products, one of the best, if no THE best airplay receiver. I have been using iTunes and airplay for more than 10 years. It has steadily gone downhill as iOS and intoxicating profits drove Apple’s focus, while OS X steadily went downhill. The dreaded Apple permissions debacle is enough to make a grown man cry. The only person this is going to keep from copying the music is the Apple computer owner. A thumb in the eye for being an Apple enthusiast. I have owned most everything Apple makes, including Xserve. It used to be fun to work with Apple. Now it’s a hair pulling ritual. For the first time since I started using Apple, I an thinking of alternatives. Lastly the interface with music and iphone is terrible. Just awful. Can’t see playlists, edit playlists, delete playlists along with their songs. Clearly Apple doesn’t care. And it’s very very sad.

Why do you take away features that we use?. So far I haven’t been impressed with many of the changes since Apple decided to chop iTunes in half. Why did you take away the Airplay button? Now I have to go to my computer to make iTunes connect to my Apple TV via Airplay (which is still way faster than loading from the Apple TV!) Before I could connect it from the app while sitting on my couch. Also, there’s no Airplay setting in the Apple TV app that will maintain the preference to automatically Airplay to your Apple TV like before. Why take that away? It worked so great before! Now I have to select it from my computer every time that I want to watch anything. I have purchased ALL the Apple things like you wanted me to, why won’t they play well together?! (Note: I am writing this review while I am patiently waiting for my Apple TV to load content from my library...)

Unreliable Watch app. After Catalina, I waited a long time for the return of Remote support. While it finally works on iPhone, I can’t it to work properly on my watch. It shows my Mac library in the list, but after connecting, nada. I‘ve read all the help files, researched it to no end, removed/re-installed/re-added more times than I can count, with no luck. Feature request: Instead or fixing Remote, it would be even better if the remote functionality with my Mac could be incorporated into the Now Playing watch app – it would save so many steps and be much easier! (Bc honestly, using Remote app to control Mac Music app is really clunky and slow as it is anyway, with so many taps and waiting between taps to get to a simple music control like adjusting volume or skipping to the next track.) It really doesn’t make sense that Watch integration is only right with iOS and not my Mac too.

Bug Ridden. This app like so many other Apple apps is so full of bugs and so frustrating to use. For someone who has his own music file library, this app makes one question why keeping using Apple products. New Music app for MacOS is a joke. Trying to sync apple devices to my library is hit and miss and requires reboots of MacBook and devices at times to sync properly. So I started using iTunes on windows which seems to be more stable, but the Remote app randomly displays different playlist and playlist folders just starting the app or creating new playlists. Taps on virtual buttons on screen, such as “Playing Now” do not work at times and require tapping another button or restarting app. This doesn’t even qualify as an alpha release, much less beta or live rollout release.

Little lost gem!. I used this app years ago and even forgot I had it installed. And then came on a use case I’ve wanted for years - and this does it! Beautifully!!! Among other things, I use Remote to control the music playing on my main Mac through AirPlay to my main entertainment system. Now I can listen to the same stream in the office, family room, and outside and am free to roam about the yard without worrying about WiFi dropping out. And I still have complete control over what is playing (and volume and more) from my iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch! Can’t wait to pair some friends phones so my Mac can serve as a jukebox at the next party! I’ve always wanted to do that! The only thing I wish it did that it doesn’t do is allow me to Add to my library! (I think I get why and it’s not too much to go over to Music and do it and then come back.) Well done Apple!!!

Essential app that is poorly supported and buggy.. This app is great when it works. It happens to work about 50% of the time. You can turn home sharing on and off to get it to find your home library. But that works about 66% of the time. It stopped working completely when the last major MacOS occurred. You can tell apple doesn’t care about WiFi networking anymore. They are getting out of WiFi routers and it shows. If I was going to invest in a room by room music system hooked up with multiple units playing from the Music App (not iTunes now) I would invest in a Sonos system. Way more stable and dependable. Apple just wants to make easy money now. No vision other than that.

Apple “Remote” app (for iTunes) control on iPad. Now that iTunes functionality has moved to the new Music app in the Catalina MacOS, not surprisingly, those who have not moved forward have been left to suffer the slow decline of Remote functionality. Myself included. This is the nature of the software universe, so take a relaxing breath since it is fruitless to expect such old technology to function as intended so far beyond its useful life. One can no longer add a Play Next song to the UpNext playlist without the currently playing song muting for half a second while some buffer refills (or whatever is the cause). If you wait until a new song begins playing, you can sometimes get around this flaw.

Remote App is mostly excellent , but some problems. Via the remote app I am able to send uncompressed music from my iMac all over my house and control it with my iPad, my iPhone, & my Apple Watch! Very cool! I’ve noted two problems that I haven’t been able to fix: After any significant time out (1 hour), my home pods disappear as on option to send music via Remote app. I have to walk to the Mac and select the option manually (again) before it appears again (temporarily) in app. The remote app sees all other Airplay devices (including non-Apple) and the Music app sees all devices, but the Remote app remains blind. 2nd problem: When Remote App uploads my (extensive) Mac music library, it sometimes lists (& plays) tracks in the wrong order. Not acceptable to one (like me) who appreciates listening to an album in the way intended. Fix these problems and we’ve got a 6 Star app!

Works better on Apple Music than iTunes. I just upgraded to a Mac for the first time after using iTunes on PC’s for 17 years. On my last PC with iTunes half the time the remote app didn’t even detect my iTunes on wifi. On my new Mac and Apple Music now this app works all the time on wifi without a problem! I’m so glad apple made the change. Why not rename it Apple Music remote?

Zeppelin hiccups.... Using Apple Remote to control iTunes over B&W Zeppelin play: When things go smooth, I start a song or playlist in Remote, and still have to disable and then re-enable the Zeppelin on my iPhone or iPad. Unfortunately, when things do not go like this, I have to reset everything, and be very patient... I can’t blame either company for this, as I don’t know where communication fails. However, I still hope that two companies that strive to the best in their own field can sort this out and provide me/us with the best listening experience possible!

Please don’t give up on this app. I have a Mac mini that we use as a media server that is hooked up to an audiophile system. You can tell the sound difference between Apple Music and actual cds we ripped and play on iTunes. That being said we prefer using iTunes and this remote is severely limiting. I haven’t seen any functionality added in years. Please don’t forget about this app! I know very few people use it, but there are some of us out there that are crying for a revamp!! I also subscribe to Apple Music which only shows up if you’ve downloaded the songs to the iTunes folder.

Cool concept. Misses the mark for Apple Music subscribers. Remote is a cool concept. It lets me adjust the Music volume playing on my Apple TV or iMac from my iPhone or iPad. In theory, it could also let me change what’s playing. The in theory part is that I subscribe to Apple Music and have had my subscription for over 5 years. Remote let’s me select among “my” recordings in my Apple library. This is basically the music I ripped or purchased before I started subscribing to Apple Music. It does not let me select Apple Music subscription tracks. It does not let me select Apple Music radio stations. At this point it basically lets me select tracks I’m not very interested in. That’s really limiting.

Valuable but very basic. This is an app I use all the time to play music from my Mac through the various stereos in my house using Airplay. I really rely on. I just wish Apple would pay a little more attention to it and update it to match some of the functions in the computer and iPad. For example, there is no ‘Recently Added’ as there is everywhere else through the Apple ecosystem. Also, the version for the Watch flat-out doesn’t work. Seems to be an orphan app — I just hope they don’t totally abandon it.

Great Apple remote Hack.. So much easier to type with. Thank You

My most-used app.. I’ve been using this thing since day one and I find it indispensable. I do miss the party features and wish it was a bit more stable, but it still runs my home audio system.

Has bug with latest iOS on iPhone X. Using to navigate Apple TV as a remote: When you open another app, (or the phone turns off) then come back to the remote app - it can not be used. It flashes between playlists and the remote control screen incessantly. Very disappointing that an Apple App needs to be force restarted every time to use it.

It’s back and still smooth. Thx apple for restoring this. To think I even started loosing faith in the eco-system. I am controlling my ex-iTunes on my iMac into Bluesound, Ikea’s Symfonisk (Sonos), and my old Airport. So sweet. Thx

Can’t seem to use on latest update. Since the most recent update, my remote will only work with older aTV’s

Indispensable. Such a simple, yet logical little app that belies its usefulness. I love the ability to control my iTunes music server in my MacBook with this app and to be able to stream music anywhere in the house. Typical Apple design: lean, mean, simple, and as easy and effective as it gets.

Rmote. This app works well for me, and does as described. Simple and easy to use.

Apple TV. This remote app helps me with my Apple TV so much.

New Update Still Buggy And Complicated. After updating the remote and turning on home sharing again I was hoping the remote usage would be seamless like it used to be. It still isn’t, and the workarounds being suggested on the apple support pages are ridiculously complicated. Many of them stop working as soon as you unplug your device from the console (which kind‘ve defeats the purpose). Keep trying Apple, you’re not there yet. What a shambles.

Some limitations but still essential. I use this app very often, though I wish it could be updated to better integrate with Apple Music.

It functions how it used to, but not how it should now.. This App was great for controlling a computer with iTunes or an old AppleTV. You could even control Audio Output to different devices. Things have changed a lot. Since then; we have have new Apple TV’s and HomePods. AirPlay 2 means you can control different devices together or independently. New AppleTVs can be controlled using the AppleTV remote App, and HomePods can be controlled using the clunky Home App. It would be great if this app was resurrected so you could have the control we used to have, but take advantage of the new devices too!

One flaw. It’s great - but it drives me nuts that I can’t view albums in year order. My one wish.

Great but needs issues addressed. It’s a great app but needs some issues addressed. First: when adding songs/albums to the queue it used to add them at the end. Currently it adds them as the next block and pushes out the rest of the queue. Very annoying! Also support of HomePod mini should be working. Currently HomePod mini is mostly not available when picking the destinations for airplay and can only be added through iTunes. That really needs fixing.

It’s really a big help but it keeps disconnected. It’s really a big help but it keeps disconnected

Not working. Wrong Id and won’t let me change it

Stable and constant. Remote is one of those apps that has always been there and doesn’t change much or get huge upgrades. I use it to manage my local music library on a dedicated retired Mac to play music throughout the house on various AirPlay devices. Three stars because it’s average, not awful, not great. It always connects, and it’s consistent in its behaviour. The UI is OK, a bit sluggish in album view loading all those album covers, but it’s familiar and functional and free. There are other music managment apps and platforms to play with but this one has hung around and not developed needlessly or got bloated with ads and junk, so I’m keeping it.

Not sure what happened…. This used to be a great app. Now it refuses to connect to my devices all of a sudden. It freezes on a blank screen, and it’s on an IPhone 14 Max Pro so they can’t even say my device is out dated.

GUI updates required. - too much white space on ipad screen - please support split screen & slideover on ipad os - a widget would avoid the above issues thanks!

Keyboard doesn’t work. So frustrating that I can’t use the keyboard to enter usernames and passwords anymore. What’s going on?!

When are you going to update this???. Almost useless since Apple Music came along - can’t control most things I use in iTunes

Perfect. Make using Apple TV and audio devices so easy from a phone, especially when kids have lost the remote!

Glitchy. Library keeps dropping out making the app frustrating to use. Always requires to be reset up every use.

Bear minimum. There are many features in iTunes that you cannot control, such as AirPlay. They could’ve made the remote into a really awesome app where you can control much more than just the basics such as being able to edit song information or change certain settings, which would make it a very appealing app.

Needs updating. The app rarely connects to my Mac first time, I usually have to force quit the Remote app first. It’s in desperate need of a update to fix bugs. Also needs updating to match the Apple Music Play Next and Play Last commands.

I’m happy with this remote. Life saver lol

Why did they make this bad?. Like the iOS music app you used to be able to queue music and see the queue. Can’t anymore. No album view either. It’s the worst. Especially after I banked all my music in iTunes, now it’s sunk and annoying to use.

Yep. It’s good. Finally working fully again!!

Desperately needs updating. Doesn’t even show all the music in library. So for every other song you still have to manually change on the Mac.

Great work!. Really love this app.

Erratic keyboard after last update. I’ve love the Apple Remote for my Apple tv3 but after the last update I can use the keyboard to login to apps but then fails to respond on the Password same with other iPhones in the house. :(

Excellent. Great app allowing me to control the operation of my music and media library from my BBQ and entertaining area. Guests chose their favourite tunes to add to the playlist

Greatest remote!!. Remote control app is the best t.v remote control ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What’s changed?. Freezes, often cannot find the Apple TV. Very frustrating to use. Use to be perfect, but the past month or so, totally un-useable

Great remote. Better than the remote that came with the unit

Rate me! Rate me!. Really don’t like the way apps are allowed to bug you to rate / review them. Surely the App Store can collate the data in relation to how many users download an app, keep using it, update it and don’t delete it. Statistically, these people are happy with your app! :| So an app in the store could have stats listed, such as 1,162,814 downloaded this app last year - 1,851 people deleted it within 12 months. I’d call that a successful and popular app. Job done. Don’t bug me for ratings if I’m still using your app. Obviously I like it. If I feel inclined to give you suggestions (that you’ll likely ignore) I’ll go to the App Store and take the time to write down what I think and what has motivated me enough to give you my valuable time, as I have done today ;)

Fix the bugs!!. The old ATV app worked great, but this app is buggy as hell. Frequently forgets the ATV, just drops off the radar completely. So you end up spending 20 mins restarting, unplugging the ATV cord, checking wifi, restarting the app. So much worse.

Great. Great it’s excellent for controlling and selection of music remotely.

No Browsing. This would gain another star or 2 if it allowed you to browse Apple Music.

Ms s. H. Lately it has been lagging a lot I wish it would work faster

iTunes remote. Absolute rubbish I’ve had to reinstall it every time I want to use it , glitch after glitch

Just work hey?. Why do I need to connect to an iTunes library to connect to a new Apple TV and use the remote. Not a big ask. Also when I go through the hassle of opening a computer no jumping through hoops, why then be temperamental and forget the connected ‘library’ every now and then. When I buy a fridge it doesn’t ask to ‘connect’ to the kettle before it works. No, it just works? Maybe connecting to the ‘library’ is important to some but I think a big chunk of people buying Apple TV just want to be able to use their lpad or phone to hit up Netflix or Stan without having to check if their fridge is feeling ok..... I mean ‘library’. Do you think that might be a lofty aim you could strive for? I mean don’t prioritize it over going to the moon or even Mars or anything, but I think you should put that on your blue sky thinking ultimate aims list. Thanks for your consideration.

It’s ok - not great. The app works ok - it’s a bit limited - I.e. when I browse by artist I can’t then browned by album for that artist - all the artist’s albums are simply shown as a list - which means if I start playing one album it keeps playing on into the next one. I’m happy to work with Apple if any assistance is required. Thanks

Terrible. Terrible, constantly losing connection with Apple TV

5 stars, I said.. What else do I need to say? Doesn’t 5 stars say enough.

The most helpful App. As I’m an aged Apple Music listener I use Remote on my iPhone/iPad to control my iTunes music from my iMac with attached Bose Speakers.

Disappointing. Poorly maintained, with basic bugs unfixed for ages. Not worthy of Apple’s usual reputation.

No options or lyrics. Currently no options to sort the order albums are displayed in. By year would be nice. No option to view lyrics of songs. Above issues are basic functionality that is lacking. Not updated in a decade. Yawn.

Does the job but could be better. It does the basic job. But… It would be nice if it had more of the functionality of the Music (FKA iTunes) app such as list albums by artists when in album view and show the recently added albums. It also needs a faster way to load album artwork (perhaps offer the option of maintaining a local cache?). The current process is slow especially with large libraries and only ever shows a handful.

Works ok. It’s good having the remote for Apple TV on my phone. But it doesn’t always show or register my Apple TV even when I have it on, meaning I can’t use the remote if it doesn’t register my Apple TV in app. Works great when it registers.

Glitchy. Great when it works but it often tends to flash and I’m unable to use the app unless I close it and start it up again. Happens frequently.

Connection better to Apple wifi network. A simple but practical app to control an Apple Music library. But in my experience your device needs to connect to a wifi network created by an Apple device (in my case a Time Capsule connected via Ethernet to my router) to work reliably. Connecting directly to my router, the app constantly disconnects from the library; reconnecting often involves toggling the wifi and/or quitting/restarting the app.

Needs Home Pod support. Will find my Apple TV units but not the HomePods which are my main source of music from my library

Simple app, does what you expect it to. Fine little app to control the volume of iTunes without having to go up to the computer each time. Glad this exists!

Doesn’t work. Every time my Apple TV asks for my password, even after repeating the same operation. Very irritating.

Great App! Wish you could control an IPAD with IPHONE using it.. Great App! Wish you could control an IPAD with IPHONE using it.

Great when it works.. Constantly fails to connect to iTunes. Tells me to hit the remote button in top left of iTunes and enter a code. Cool except there is no remote button in iTunes and no help on how to find it.

Needs background and fast forward and rewinding support. Every time I fast forward and rewind a song the app shuts down. Would be very helpful to use this in the background too.

Sometimes works. Works sometimes

Need a serious refresh!!. This app is like the beginning of internet. Need a serious refresh in terms on functionality, connectivity and design. Impossible to find radio stations already present in Music in the computer. (Or via the “more” button) App regularly freeze. No regular update. Is like Apple don’t care.

Rarely works. It often will not load and / or connect. When it works it’s great. Very convenient

Not working some days so veryfrusying. Not working done days :( When it works love it

Has become completely disgusting garbage. It used to work fine, now all of my phones and macs that I use together refuse to connect , updating and rebooting doesn’t help. Just wasted another few hours trying to get our living room mac mini to connect to my iPhone. No way. What a sad joke.

Please fix it. It now longer maintains a strong connection to the computer. It won’t link properly. Please fix it apple.

Junk. Like most apple things it sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. Many times the keyboard won’t work which is frustrating.

Stopped working. Stopped working on the latest Music update. Makes my Mac useless for music now.

Needs to add star ratings. This is almost exactly what I need. I can see and control the currently playing music on my Mac on a separate screen/device that’s off to the side of my desk with simple taps. The only thing that’s missing is the ability to change the star ratings and toggle favourites. There’s so much available screen real estate that it’s a bit surprising it’s not there.

Amazing for my complex set up!. I have 4 receivers which power up 11 sets of speakers. Each receiver is hooked up via 3.5mm to RCA cable to Airport Express hubs. From the app I can control which receiver is to pick up the feed and the volume of each receiver. I have music outside and inside so the different volumes are great to have. Being able to create a basic playlist is awesome because any guest can grab my phone and pick out songs they want to hear. All the music is stored on iTunes on my Mac. In hindsight I could have used a wireless system like Sonos but intimately this was way less expensive. Love the app!

A bit buggy. I love being able to play music directly from my iTunes library (opens up access to my entire library saves battery on my phone) but the remote app often looses connection with the library and I have to go to the computer, quit iTunes and run it again, which kind of defeats the purpose of the remote app.

Keyboard fiction on older models.. Keyboard function stopped working on older models. Easier to use original remote

Simple, Yet Effective.. I have used Remote for years as a controller for my music in Lossless format. It is stripped down, but quite reliable.

Please give us some Themes !!!. Pretty please with sugar on it???

Remote. Ne fonctionnne que de temps à autres à cause du partage à domicile qui est toujours introuvable

Awesome App. I have a surround system on my PC, easy to pair by going into your PC iTunes and right below the account button is another button you press and type in a 4 digit pin and bam I can control the song I want to play and the volume.

Pas au niveau d’Apple. L’app remote ne donne aucun accès à Apple musique en totalité. D’autres comme Spotify permettent de contrôler à distance avec un accès total. Remote est dépassé et est d’un vieux temps . Pas digne d’Apple.

Useless?!. I don't see the point of this app at all. I wanted it to control my apple tv device and apple music but am having no luck in accomplishing this.

Doesn’t work. Using win 11, everything is up to date and brand new. Simply won’t connect.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. It is a very shaky app... works then it doesn’t.

Sad all. Browsing is tedious at best, can’t edit or create playlists, no landscape mode to actually see the title of the now playing , can’t be an airplay receiver to just stream to your phone, doesn’t use the iPhone lock screen “now playing” so you always have to open the app, no lock screen widget, does not work on older iOS like itouch4 so we can recycle those useless devices in remotes

Update, please?. This app works, but it’s obviously getting old and needs to be updated to support Apple Music properly.

Not working well anymore. This used to be a great app but recently it keeps glitching. When my phone screen goes dark and I have to wake my phone up again it just keeps flashing and doesn’t work at all. I have to swipe the app away in the background and open it up again. It does this every time now. It’s unfortunate because I like the app better than the remote that came with my old Apple TV.

Does not work with older Apple TV. Typing function only works half the time in half the fields which defeats the purpose of using the app over the remote.

Constantly forgetting library. Have to constantly reconnect the library and the UX procedure to do so is an appallingly bad process and always takes a few minutes to once again “re-learn” how to do it.

Does not work. Does not work with iTunes on windows. The remote button does not appear on iTunes.

Bien pratique. D’avoir accès à distance à votre musique

Would love an update. No way to favourite tracks or filter library by favourites.

WatchOS app is buggy. Doesn't save the connected library and requires connecting manually each time.

Pourri. Probablement la pire application de contrôle d’une boîte noire qu’il y a moyen d’imaginer au XXIème Siècle...

Who needs to buy “smart” products. My stock Apple products do the same job for music streaming around the house. Airplay, iTunes remote, Apple TV or Airport Express’s and you’re set

Solomon. Fine

Does not work with Apple Watch. Love the app for use at home but the Apple Watch version never work s

Have baked app that could be so much more. A typical app from apple that only does almost the minimal amount needed. For instance I can search for tunes on my subscription with Apple but in remote I can’t. Only songs in my library. I want to play only hi-res music files, I can’t on remote…. It really is just a start and stop app for me.

I can enjoy my music with it. Perfect app for music lovers

Amazing. Nice

Excellent!. I love it.

Love it!!!. It allows me to work from a distance.

Poor app that rarely works. Hasn’t been updated in years. Absolute fail

RT

Love this but!!!. We need to be able to control our macs library through our apple watches soon, like we are able to control iPhone audio I think we should with our macs!! Would love to control and iTunes library through my apple watch per day when I’m cleaning and what not. I usually use my mac to play Apple Music through my computer speakers when cleaning.

So absurdly basic and finicky. This functionality should be built straight into Apple Music

useless. completely useless, is refusing to let me connect via home sharing to my apple TV nor my PC. trash

Wish I knew about this app sooner. Only complaint is there seems to be an inconsistency as to whether my laptop needs to be open or not. (I am using an hdmi adapter to connect it to my speaker system) Sometimes I can close it and just control through app and other times it will stop playing.

Does the job. Great app. I get the music going on my computer out in my back garden pub and then play my music throughout my property from this app on my phone. I can control volume, what’s playing now, see what’s up next and add songs to the mix.

Terrible. Apple products constantly don’t work, don’t connect, don’t talk to each other, constantly sign you out of one device or another, and then don’t allow you to sign back in with codes sent to other devices. You are supposed to have 10 devices available for your iTunes account, i have only 7 or 8 and it constantly signs me out of multiple devices. To just play music in my house turns into an hour and a half IT session EVERY TIME - absolute garbage. No wonder companies like Sonos can exist and whip apple.

Love it!. My stereo is connected via Bluetooth to my Mac and all my music. I can control the volume and select the playlist and songs I want to hear from the comfort of my very comfortable chair. Works only when my wife is out of the house. Guess the app can’t help with that.

Almost there. I’ve been using the iTunes remote for many years and it lets me easily control all my AirPlay devices. The reason I only give the app 4 stars is that it cannot control Apple Music. Half of my music comes from this source. The current version forced me to go back to my Mac to make program changes.

Remote home sharing. I really like the option to have my tunes be available on remote, but the app doesn’t work that great. I tried this app a few years ago and was frustrated then. I continuously lose connection and have to re turn on remote home sharing from my pc and phone. I thought a few years later it would be working better, but still the same problem. If not for that issue, this would be a 5 star review.

Could use a few more features. I wish this would control the computer’s volume and not just the music app’s volume. A few other buggy things, but overall I’m glad apple decided to fix this app after the Catalina update shut it down.

If you use library access from app, be patient. I was livid that key functionality had been removed, but when I went back into the app to take a screenshot it was back. It apparently takes a while for things to load before you can access the library directly in the AppleTV2 and 3. Haven’t tried it with the 4.

Could be better. Pro: Easily connects to Music app on my Mac Con: management of “Up Next” list is pitiful. You can add songs to up next. If you scroll through albums, you can add those. But if you scroll through artists, and then view albums under a particular artist, you can’t add those albums - just individual songs. It’s also easy to accidentally wipe out a carefully-constructed Up Next list when browsing through artists or songs.

From Elaina. I love it so much I just wanted you in my prayers for your family today thank love for sharing with you guys all day and I hope you have fun and your love and family and love love and thank love for all the love and thank love for you all love love and love love it all love love and miss all your heart thank love for your love thank love for your birthday thank love for you and love

Very unstable and buggy. This app should be a home run for my setup: Mac Mini, connected directly via ethernet to an ATV puck, with iTunes Home Sharing and a current iPhone. The app will inexplicably lose connection and reset, despite being less than 10 ft away from all devices, including the wifi router. This is basic "it just works" level of functionality that the app seems to struggle with delivering consistently.

Works great but can’t control Radio. I love this app and have been using for years, but I’m continuously frustrated it can’t access Radio feature within iTunes. I love the new stations especially with Apple Music subscription, but can’t leverage this using remote. Sounds like this issue has been present since at least 2011, and no evidence anybody cares to fix it.

The best tool for music playback on your Mac. Although it is an older app, this is still the best way to control the music app on a Mac in your house. What is really good is that you can set what speakers are going to be used, so, if you have multiple airplay speakers around your house, you can control them from wherever you are.

Exactly what I needed. I needed a way to control my Apple music running on my Mac. All my speakers are connected to my Mac so now I can control my music from anywhere in the house! I like the ‘Up Next’ list. If there are songs in list I don’t want to hear, I can just swipe left on the item and remove it. Good app!

Works well, but needs to be integrated more with Apple Music. Works well as a basic remote, offering a simplistic interface similar to iTunes itself. Apple Music features (such as for adding new music) need to be added though; preferably, this app should be integrated into the IOS native music app, much like how Spotify’s remote feature is integrated smoothly right in the app.

apple remote. Works every time to stream itunes to multiple systems. My only gripe is up next can be a pain because it just keeps playing the next album instead of stopping. The only way to play 1 album from a group of albums by 1 artist is to make a playlist.

Lack of features. The fact that this app exists is great but, you can’t search for new music. You have to go to the music app first, save the song/album to your library, and then go back to this app to play it. Another cool feature would be the ability to read the lyrics to the song while in the app. Also, the UI is pretty bland compared to the Music app - definitely needs some fine tuning!

Doesn’t work. Can’t get the phone to go to the screens that the Apple TV is asking for. It will let me do the login and then lock when its time for the password or lock when I’m trying to enter the passcode for parental controls. I hate having to scroll through all the letters and numbers with the arrows on the little remote. Very easy to pass where you’re going and takes much longer than it should. What a disappointment because I’m pretty sure it’s because the Apple TV is old enough to not update anymore. Big Apple issue in my opinion.

Remote for appletv 4K. I would really like to be able to control my appletv 4K music from my phone or iPad The appletv is connected to my whole house audio system/home theater and many times I don’t want to have the projector on just to stream music As well using my phone of pad as a source to airplay to the appletv can be inconvenient Hell we used to be able to have this kind of function with the first Apple TV and now ....?

Amazing App. I found this app a few minutes ago and wanted to control the music playing on my Mac but didn’t want to stay at my desk to skip or shuffle so I found this Remote App and it works flawlessly, just like a media remote for my iMac. Apple did a great job making managing media easy and seamless.

Apple Remote is stuck in the past.. Why not offer the same features as Apple iTunes/Music? More meta-data, more robust controls, lack of editing beyond delete and add, more display options (there is a lot of white space). I really like what Remote does offer, but it seems that it could be more robust as time goes by and internet capabilities increase - 5g!?

This App worked best and was more intuitive. This App worked best and was more intuitive on my iPhone 4. You go to your music library or radio content and hit the button and it automatically went where I wanted to go. Now it takes several steps and it’s not a easy to play the content I want to play. From my iPhone 5, 6S and XR, same problem. How can you go backward? I use my iPhone 4 exclusively as a remote control in a WiFi zone at home.

Apple destroyed this on purpose. I used iTunes on my computers as servers and iTunes remote as controllers for many years with no problems. I could even give 1st generation iPads a second life as control panels for music. Then you chose to deny access to everything that wasn't brand new and destroyed everything that we used daily. Not one thing works any more. I hope you are driven out of business for your greed and your clear hatred of your past customers.

Useless to me now.. On my Apple TV 3rd Gen, it used to allow me to browse my iTunes music library, from the APPLE TV and select my playlist to play through my receiver and my outdoor speakers. All without having to go inside and be in front of my TV. Now my music library no longer comes up most the time.

Exaggerated Capabilities. The app doesn’t allow you to control Apple Music as the copy would lead you to believe. You can access your Apple Music library or something already playing from your computer, BUT you cannot search Apple Music, find something new and play it from your Mac. I hope, hope, hope that this ability is subsequently added, since I like to connect my computer directly to my stereo to play the High Res files.

Now that it works again with Apple’s own Music application…. I’m happy to again control the playback of songs from the central Home Sharing Mac, so all is forgiven. It is very helpful that from my phone or tablet I can rate songs with stars (rather than love/no love) and start/stop playback. This app does little else but it again performs its vital functions reliably.

Remote app no longer works. Apple has removed the ability to use the keyboard on your phone when you use your phone as the remote. You stink Apple! Karma will get you. If you don’t dish out $130 to get your new devices you strip away from your older products. I have an Apple TV 3rd Gen and Apple has no support for this product even though it works well. If you have this Apple TV be aware. Keep it up Apple once these devices become obsolete I will no longer get Apple. I suggest anyone reading do the same. Shame on you Apple. Greed will get you. I would give you zero stars if I was allowed.

Back in Business. There were a few issues with MacOS Catalina support, but as you can see by the version history they have been resolved. The app as a whole works, but could probably be better organized. It would be cool if the actual control for music on other devices were in the music app, but for now this is the best we have.

Apple Music Songs Disappear After Downloading. Whenever I download a song on my Mac via Apple Music, the song is not visible in playlists from the app. Although once I delete the download, the song is visible again. The Mac doesn’t show that it is missing and the issues only appears to be affected in the app. It would also be nice to see whether the song was Hi-Res/lossless but other than the songs disappearing, the app seems to be working okay!

Very Useful Overall. There is one nuisance issue where the receiving computer will not connect my phone but it works 99% of the time and is super handy otherwise. It changes songs, plays and pauses and allows to a fairly good experience for queuing/editing a playlist as well.

Needs to be reworked.. The app is good.. for music already downloaded. However if you are a user that enjoys the Apple Music app especially for the purpose of discovering new music or playing music that isn’t currently downloaded then this app will be a disappointment. I do enjoy how the app works in the aspect of controlling music remotely from your phone however you only have access to your music already downloaded in your library. That means no searching new music via the remote app and that’s why I gave this only 2 stars.

Horizontal Display. I'm a big proponent of horizontal display. When your iPhone or iPad is plugged in it needs to be on its side. I want to see the album cover and titles looking really cool in this view. I hope Apple puts in some design creativity here. It could really add to the experience.

Playlist support. Perhaps this has been implemented and I’m not aware, I think the ability to assign a song to a playlist (new or existing) would be a version 1 feature. I’ve been using the remote app for years and haven’t run across it. Please enlighten me if I’m just being dense. Otherwise, a smooth and well implemented app! :-)

I’d be lost without it. It does exactly what it needs to. Never had an issue. Simple, as it should be. I use it every night to switch from meditation to the ocean ambience we sleep to, change the volume if needed, and check/change the repeat settings. All important in the world of convenience.

Works well when AirPlay isn’t appropriate.. I push lossless media to multiple stereos around the house at the same time and wireless doesn’t give enough bandwidth, so using AirPlay makes the sound drop out. Remote doesn’t push the sound through the phone, but directly from the server to the airport, so the music plays seamlessly.

Most used app in our household. And probably most underrated on the App Store. Simply perfect. Select and play music from our local library throughout the house without draining the phone battery by playing directly from the device. Keep at it!

Better and better.. I used this back in 2011 when it first appeared. It pretty much worked then, but the road was pretty rocky for the next few years. When I started using it again recently I was delighted at how fast, reliable and responsive it seems to be now.

Needs improvers to be awesome!. I have used this app for years too control music in iTunes & now Apple Music & it works fine for that, but it could use some options. One change that I would love to see is when you click on an artist and are viewing their entire discography of albums, currently all of their albums are listed in alphabetical order. It would be great to be able to sort the artist albums by year of release. This way us music nerds could easily play albums in order of their release. It’s odd that in Apple Music itself this exists, but not in the app. Come on Apple, this is a simple change, let’s get it done please

Horrible for accessing your iTunes library. This app used to work flawlessly, but now I can never consistently play music from my iTunes library to my Airport Express- it does not connect consistently at all. I can connect fine with my iPhone or iPad so it is not the Airport Express that is the issue. When it does connect, you cannot adjust the volume at all. It has to be changed from the stereo only. What a disappointment. The app used to work flawlessly before app updates and/or macOS updates.

Useful but could do more. I use remote to control Apple Music on a dedicated MacBook plugged into my stereo system. If only the app would allow the user to play music not currently in the user’s Apple Music library. If I read an article about a new artist or song and want to listen, I must walk over to the laptop to queue up whatever I want to play. Remote could be so much better.

Lacking features. It does a basic job. But the layout is dated and there are many features that could be added to make the software more useful. Features such as lyrics, the ability to delete a song from a playlist, and an improved layout for the song, title, artist and rating info would also be nice touches.

Get to work Apple! Save this app.. This used to be a killer app. Sometime in the last upgrade, either ITunes or TVos or both, bugs have appeared. Itunes on Pc will play one song, then at 30 seconds in on the next, it quits playing, and the checkbox for Air devices in itunes gets a dash in it rather than check mark. Have to click on play to restart. Song will finish, then move to next; same thing happens. Play stops at 30 seconds. I have reviewed the packets in WireShark, and just before stopping, the AppleTV4 will send a series of ICMP packets to Itunes PC which are ignored and dropped. The ATV then resets the connection, and the whole process starts over. I have done every possible setup, tweak, restart, reset, reinstall of firmware, but to no avail. Everything is fine when play through Music, but Itunes Remote App is currently broken. So sad. Apple, we love this app. Don't let it die.

Remote review. Probably the best thing Apple could have made for Apple Music how many times have you been in the other room with your music playing and don’t wanna go all the way back in there to change the song well the remote is your new best friend thank you Apple

Rarely works. Trying to load a shared library has always been a lost cause unless your library is tiny. I’d like to see iTunes and the remote have the ability to read music from remote libraries and network devices.

This is a TOTAL FAIL. This works but doesn’t. It will not show artists I have in my library. It will not find the artist or song that I can see is in my music library on literally all of my devices in Apple Music - it’s all synced. The only way I can get it to show these songs is to press play on the device I’m using theiTunes Remote for. Then it will show up as playing - but if I try to play the song again or rewind it, the entire apps crashes.

Useful, but. It's a useful app, but it appears to have very limited functionality. You can play, pause, skip forward or back, and see what you're playing, but it is not obvious the you can browse your library, choose another album, or manage playlists, which a modern remote should be able to do.

Great app - needs update. Love this app to control my computers iTunes and media. Please update to iOS 16 and include widgets! Would love to be able to pause and volume adjust from Lock Screen or widget on the Home Screen. Please don’t get rid of it, show it some love!

New User Extremely Satisfied. After having the ability to use this App and others, I finally got the courage to try this and it amazes me how I missed out so many years of enjoyment because I was not ready to further explore my Apple products.

Garbage. Honestly, the app is as the title says. It began as a really good app. I enjoyed being able to control my iTunes from anywhere in the house. However, now, it rarely connects. I’m forced to use Home Sharing. Even then, if I leave it for too long, it seems to forget that I’m connected and then won’t reconnect. If it gets all the bugs worked out, it might be worth while. Update: Downloaded this app again a few years later and it still has the same problems. Worthless app.
