Doesn't work. The previous review says that it is unclear how to use the extension. The developer responded that you simply choose a color and start highlighting. I'm not sure if this doesn't work with the newest update or something, but that is not working for me either. I choose a color and try to highlight and nothing happens. Disappointed that I just spent $4.99 on this product.

can't highlight PDF. Hi I love this. Is there any chance you could support highlighting directly on PDF documents? Specifically, I want to use it to highlight arxiv papers.

Doesn't work for School Needs. I tried this on multiple readings for school and could not get it to work on even one of the sites. I tried restarting my browser as well as my whole computer and it still did not work.

Glitchy. I had to reload a page before it would work. OK. I highlighted something and bookmarked the page. Left the page and came back to bookmark. Yes! it was still there. Shared the page to an email. No! no highlight. Ok, I am done. Hit option key. still on. go to icon, click the checkbox next to “ to turn off”. It’s still on. the yellow dot next to my cursor stays on all the time! Hit option key. it still on! Go to icon. click on text itself “to turn off”. It goes off. The check box doesn’t work. you have to click on the text next to it. OK. Let’s try it again. Now it works completely different! I hit the option key and it turns on without using the icon. I lift off of the option key it goes off. I like this better. easier to use. I wan’t to remove the liitle test highlight I just did. Command Z. Still There! Highlight over the highlight. Still there! Command Z. still there. How do I undo?

No longer works like it used to. Not sure what you guys did, but this extension no longer works like it used to. Every time I highlight a web page and refresh the page the highlight disappears forcing me to re-highlight it again.

Disappointed. Thought that I wouldn't have to purchase the. iphone and ipad apps if I already have the macOS app installed

Not working. States it’s compatible with my iPad but when I follow directions to settings to enable the extension, it won’t allow me to turn it on. kinda bummed as I was really excited about this app.m

How Do You Turn it OFF?. This is a great product, works well; but, I cannot figure out how to turn it off? I want to highlight and copy, not highlight but the key to turn it off is unrecognizable. Tilde? Bracket? Additionally, the developer must know that Mac's don't have a function key, yet it's that tilde plus function, which means we have to hit shift to make the function key, so what, tilde plus shift plus alt? None of those work. How do you turn this off? P.S. the developer did get back to me, exactly 1 year after I asked this question, so at least they do respond ). Of course I have stopped using Highlighter about 11 months ago due to this issue.

WORTH THE INVESTMENT. I love the app! It's very simple, and the icon sits well in Safari's toolbar, not overpowering but discrete. It works wonders! It's very handy for researchers, writers, students and basically everybody who uses the internet to read. This is my first time to review an app since I started using Apple products about ten years ago. This is just what I was looking for. Thank you for this amazing product and good job! Great extension.. Very easy and fast to use. Works locally, which means no sneaking upon browsing history. Comes with 16 highlighting colors which are beautiful. Native M1 support would be great! Absolutely recommended.

So disappointed. I was very excited for this app. It would not highlight anything anywhere. Not on my mac. Not on my phone. Not any kind of webpage in any color at all. The extension showed up and gave me the options, but the highlight function simply did not work. Sad.

Privacy is important. I'm happy nothing gets uploaded, including sensitive webpages from banking and medical sites. That's the issue with others in this space. I trust this app more.

can't even Highlight on any website. I bought this hoping it will be a really helpful tool but when I bought I tried highlighting and it didn't work. I tried and played with to see if it works for a while, but then I realized maybe it's because I'm using it on PDF. I tried on other webstie that is not a PDF, but stil it didn't work. I NEED my money back ASAP or help me fix it ASAP

how to get rid of the bubble at the base of pointer ?. How do I get rid of the bubble at the bottom of my mouse pointer? It is annoying to have that. And does not have option to right click and highliht when needed, as most of us do intuitively.

Works Great!. This extension is awesome! works well and is easy to use and understand. Makes highlighting webpages for schoolwork really easy.

Tip to developer: Add tooltip to icons or change to eraser icon. I never realized that block symbol meant eraser. Outstanding App. Highlighter for Safari is an intuitive app that is perfect in its simplicity. Highlighting is easy, the color choices make me happy, and it’s easy to write notes. I like the app's icon too. TO POTENTIAL BUYERS: If you feel you’d benefit from the ability to highlight web pages, I highly recommend it. The financial investment is minimal when compared to the benefits. Go. For. It! TO SUPPORT: I’d like to know more about organizing exported files for review. Saving the page as a pdf is straightforward, but do the exported notes need to be kept in the same folder as the pdfs? Does the pdf work independently of the notes file? Another question: how might the ability to export notes be helpful? I don’t want to miss out on utilizing all the app’s capabilities, and look forward to your response. Thanks

Im Cool with not buying this. So far im not thrilled and wish I had my money back. Will play with it more though, hopefully my novel interaction has left much to be explored here.

Has Potential, However .... This app could be great. I love the highlighting and the ability to export & import! Also, I want to love the Pinned Notes, however I cannot. Apparently you can only have a single note per webpage ... really?! ... and it disappears when you scroll the page, that's horrible. AND the note should stay in place, the spot you move it to. Sadly, it does not. Attaching the note to a selected bit of text would be a great way to get it to stay as you create new notes and scroll the page. Perhaps one day this app will be on my list of neccessities, but right now I'm still looking for an app that works the way it should.

Worst Extension Ever, Installs Malware. This thing continues to make my life difficult. First off, how do I turn it off? Like totally off? No easy way to do so. Also, something about the extension prevents you from copying and pasting from a browser page! Outrageous! Waste of $5, but its not worth going thru the process of requesting a a refund. So I'm taking it on the chin, but you don't have to. Edit: uninstalling this is a nightmare. hard to do and it messes up safari when you uninstall. Have spent hours with support to rectify.

LOVE!. I was hesitant to buy this app because I did see that some people had a bad experience with it. There are not many other options for a highlighter app, so I took a gamble and decided to buy the app. I FREAKING love it! Exactly what I needed for all my school readings I do online! Very easy to use!! I usually do not leave reviews, but because other people on here had a completely different experience than I did, I wanted to make sure to leave this review and give credit where credit is due!

Works but usability is not great: somewhat hokey. A far better tool for highlighting is the LINER app, which works how you'd hope a highlighter would, except that it records everything you do and costs a lot of money every month. This Highlighter app works, but there's huge room for improvements. For one thing, the eraser should be accessed from a key. Holding down SHIFT and OPTION, for example, while dragging across text should remove any highlights. Personally, I'd rather select the text, first, and then chose to add or remove highlights, by some inline option: see how LINER does it. Also, changing the highlight color or adding a note should be a simple option, inline with the selected text.

Has never worked. Honestly, I try and try. I click it. I select a color. I select and highlight… and nothing happens. Every single time. It’s just select and highlight, and then not selected, and never highlighted. I’ve watched youtube video after youtube video, and I’m doing *exactly* what everyone else is doing, and it just never HIGHLIGHTS. Don’t understand. It should just **work**…but doesn’t.

Good try. Good for if you have 1 device, but there is no cross-computer saving. Highlight on desktop, it stays on only desktop and macbook would have its own set of saves. I knew there was no cloud storage, but assumed it would sync across safari.

Time consuming to use. ****** Updated to 1 star. If this application is installed, it will NOT allow you to open ANY google document. It somehow interacts and stops the loading of the document. ****** There is no way to easily remove your highlighting quickly. If you want to unhighlight an area of text, you have to go back to the toolbar, click the highlight button, drop down to the ereaser, highlight the section of text you want to erase, and then back to the toolbar, highlighter button, click on the color of highlighter, and then continue. There should be a quick key to hold down, say "options" button and select the text to have it unhighlight.

Works, but there are issues.. It's better then the rest of the highlighting apps out there for Safari, but this has some issues. Lately, the highlighting will at times oddly split a line and the post-it feature is cool but the note will disappear if you scoll a page at times (I have been reloading the page to have it reappear). Again, better then most but can use some updating to make it so much better. More quick keys (i.e., hightlight color cycling, post-it note and even post-it note color cycling, etc.), the ability to boldface/italic copy on the post-its, and finally the ability to print a page with all highlights and notes in the places you put them (...even if the entire page is rasterized to an image in order to do it). AWESOME!. I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to thank the developers of this app and let other people know that this app works. I have purchased another app on appstore for highlighting and it didn't work. If you are a preparing for medical school, you probably realized by now that AAMC got rid of highlighting feature with the implementation of a new interface for section banks. This safari extension will help you highlight!

fail to turn of the highlighter. A color circle icon will be with the mouse once activate the highlighter.

Awful. Absolute wast of time and money. Of the 11 tabs I had open it worked for one, and not very well. I am ashamed of myself for spending money on this trainwreck.

Excellent. VERY good instructions. Comment: if you activated the extension and restarted the SAFARI browser, you may still not see the extension icon. Customize your tool bar by dragging the icon over the bar. This should be added to the instructions. Simple, works well, irreproachable.

How do I even use this???. This did not give a clear understanding on how to use the highlighter, especially for new MacBook users like me. You could've at least set up some tutorial or instructions. Now I feel like I've wasted my money

Nearly impossible to shut off without removing. I purchased this today- after many, many tries to turn off by pressing the option key as illustrated, I finally removed the app. Really unfortunate as it looked like a great tool.

It works okay, but.... The highlighter function works pretty well (although, like others, I still don't quite get how to remove highlighting easily). The major problem I have with this (and its major) is that while it works on websites, it does not work on .pdf's opened in Safari. That means, e.g., when I open a linked academic journal article, I can't highlight it. This is a major drawback since using this application to highlight and make notes in journal articles was the main reason I bought it.

Good idea, but only works on some sites. While its a great concept, i wish i wouldn't have paid the money for it. I won't work on 80% of the websites that i bought it for. I have to do research for school and need to highlight key points on websites. Unfortunately, out of the 6 website tabs i have open on my safari, it only works with 2 of them.

Great app. Kudos to the developer! I was looking for a simple highlighter for safari and this is the one! It integrates really well and saves the highlights for future reference. Absolutely worth the money. This is a personal request, could you create a PDF reader where I can change the background & text color as I am visually impaired? Bit finicky to get working. It can work, but you can only do one note per web page which is a major limitation. I was expecting something like pdf highlighting where each highlight can have a corresponding note

I like this app but. You should fix the hotkey system. Eraser hotkey (Command Option) does not work though highlight hotkey worlks (only Option holidng). Or you can allow users to set their own hotkeys. Other than the hotkey malfunctioning, it works well.

doesn't work on some webpages. I paid for and downloaded this app for the sole purpose of highlighting on a document in safari, only for it to not work on the given page. Very unhappy with this purchase.

it is okay. this product works but I thought it was a bit expensive for an app that highlights. the problem was that this app doesn't work on the website that I want to highlight. I think it was probably because the website is like a pdf and not a website. It still works well for some other website but not all. I'm just annoyed that I bought this app to highlight that particular website but now I can't highlight it so I just wasted my money

Finicky but still works just fine!. This Safari extension app works but you might have to refresh the webpage activating it. This too only happens occasionally. I use it on my iPhone 12 Pro and iPad Pro 2021 model with no problems. Thanks to the developer for making this useful Safari extension app. I truly appreciate it.

How do you turn it off. Is there a way to take that little circle next to the curser away when you are not highlighting anything?

It works!. Worth the money! I was looking for a simple highlighter Safari extension that just works and saves the state when I open the page again in the future. I like that there is no dumb external service I need to sign in to and that all of this is done offline. I love the Notes feature as well. The one change that would be very helpful is an easy way to delete a highlight without having to go back into the menu. Maybe a keybind to switch to delete mode or double click on a highlight to remove it? Maybe for deleting only a portion of the highlight you could select part of the highlight and double click the selection to remove a section of highlighted text. Thanks for making this convinient extension!

Simple but does what I need it to do. All I wanted is an app that would highlight and take notes on web pages. I could’nt believe how hard it was to find. Along came this app and it does just that. Had a couple of issues in the beginning so I emailed the developer who was very helpful. Solved my issues within a few minutes and all it was, was matter of a simple update. Thanks for the help and thank you for the app.

Good App - Could be Great with a couple of extras. I have been using the App for a week. So far, so good. It would be great if there was an ability to add folders or tags for the highlighted websites. I use highlighter for: Blogs business research academic research so a way to organise these highlighted websites into folders or tags would be great.

Good app that could be a great one. I’m enjoying this app and its usefulness. Suggestions that would turn this good app into a better one: ability to define own highlight and note colours or change opacity of existing ones and the ability to add more than one note to a web page. The App Store description and images imply to me that multiple notes are possible as it says ‘add post it NOTES (plural) to any web PAGE (singular)'. I was disappointed to have one note only as expected multiple and this is important to me. Otherwise a good app.

Good idea, but a few bugs need to be fixed before its perfect. Firstly, option key to turn highlighter on and off doesn't seem to work. Secondly, there should be a shortcut key you can press to activate an eraser. This would make the workflow 100x better.

Very Limited. Just 2 hightlight colours available, rest appear locked. Not sure if i can do anything to fix that.

A useless app. Very surprised that I paid for an app that is functionally useless. You still have to export to a pdf and try to get the highlights from another application. I could just export the webpage and highlight if from there instead of paying for an extra app that doesn't do anything different. Really unhappy.

Does the job!. I just wanted something simple to highlight key points in articles while doing research in Safari (instead of having to download it as PDF and mark it up in preview). This Safari extension does a good job of letting me highlight key points to reference quickly in the near term. The highlights are not persistant though (you lose the highlights if you close or refresh the page). This works fine for my use case.

buggy. tapping disable pen seems to be buggy. i'm unable to enable the pen again! also the extension is causing issues with the little popup bubble where it is sometimes not showing. happy to update my review if the issue is fixed

Great but Need Rework PDF file. I really love the fact that I can highlight using safari. On the other hand, it doesn't work in an opened pdf file. I really need it for school projects, it'd be convenient if we have that feature. I love the fact that I can use the sticky note on full screen though. But pleaseeee, do something with the PDF file opened on safari. Thanks

Fantastic App!!!. I have been looking for an app like this forever! It is perfect. It works just like highlighting on paper. Also enables backup, import & export of highlighted sections. Well worth the price!

Another great idea with one flaw. Does what it says elegantly. However, for pages that get updated, the highlighted color doesn’t stay at the original topic, it moves to the recent topic that took its place.

OK. You cannot change back to the original color after you want to remove a highlight unless you restart safari. It's an OK app but very expensive for what it does.
