Canon DPP Express Comments & Reviews 2026
Missing a lot of features considering it’s a paid app.. Unable to undo all the changes for an image.
How do I give this zero stars.. Dear Canon, Your users spend thousands of dollars on your bodies, and lenses. Some of us faithfully hit all the upgrade cycles. And now you want to charge us $.99 cents a month for software on IOS that, oh wait, you provide at no charge for MacOS and Windoze and is part of the overall cost of ownership of Canon Gear. Really? Someone please take the time to explain to us why you’ve done this because it’s narrow sighted. IMHO, you have really screwed the pooch and depleted a lot of customer goodwill.
Annoying. Stop making this pop up every time I get done with a photo
Really disappointing output.... Overlooking the fact this app does not support CR2 raws (I have an EOS R), the image quality that you get from processing CR3 RAW files in the app is pretty ugly. Equally as disappointing is how slow it functions. Granted, I’m “only” using a first generation iPad pro 12.9”, but every other RAW editor on this device flys. It might be worth keeping around when I need to get a RAW file off my EOS R wirelessly, but on top of the dog performance and crap output, you can’t even export RAW files to use in another app.
Fantastic App. I don’t understand all the critical reviews. The app is well designed with an intuitive interface. No other camera manufacturer is offering anything like this, This is very cool !
Cannot even download from camera roll anymore!!!. Last week this worked and now I cannot download even single photo from my camera roll on my iPad Pro. I get en Error: download cancelled due to lack of space. I have 200 GB of space so this is NOT the problem. PLEASE FIX this Canon.
Yay!. Yay! I don’t have to break out my 13 year old massively out of date laptop anymore. Now if only somebody would put in a channel mixer so I can channel swap infrared photos! That would be the only thing I’d add to this.
Average. Don’t expect to get your raw files back. I haven’t found out how yet.
I was tricked in a Subscription I can’t cancel!!!. This app isn’t for IPhone at all! It shouldn’t even be advertised on the App Store! This is only for Canon cameras!!! YOU ARE LIARS! Not only that there is no possible way to cancel the subscription I was tricked into buying! I will do everything I can to have you removed from the Apple App Store LIARS!!!
I thought it would let me share it?. Can’t share?
great apps for canon shooters. Easy to use and great integration with other Canon apps. Used it for years!
Unfair tactic to promote pretty useless app. Received MS Windows version of this pretty useless app years ago on a CD. I have never really used it, but decided to give it a shot on iOS device (clicked on a link in the Camera Connect utility). As a result, I spend 5 min of my life just to learn it is useless DEMO that required subscription to operate. This information should be clearly stated upfront, in the description. App Store should punish these. It is very strange they do not understand that it is not the price issue.
I keep coming back to this. The speed, quality of conversions, and ease of use are phenomenal. The only gripe I have is the files need to be save on your iPad. No cloud functionality. I’ll go all in when and if they add cloud storage.
Good except for subscription. I’d rather buy the app outright. Especially since it is free on the desktop.
Exporting is Terrible. When exporting from the app to your camera roll it completely distorts the image.
Jumped on the Adobe subscription bandwagon. You buy a nice Canon camera for several thousand dollars, then you download this app and it wants to nickel and dime you for $1 per month… Also can’t access photo files unless they are stored in your camera roll, that’s a non starter for most pro workflows with external drives and even just plugged in camera cards. Direct transfer from camera is slow at best.
Sad. Can not believe i have had this app for less than minute and it is telling me that even though i have there camera that i spent to me a lot of money and now i have to buy your app instead of being able to just use it. I have had the camera for 3 days and now i am sending it back and getting a Nikon, no wonder you are losing the market to them and others good luck
Don’t waste you time. It was decent while free, but Canon got greedy. Spend 10k on gear and they keep their hands out. Now that its subscription don’t waste your time. There are better free options.
Canon: users hate the paywall. I do too.. This app should be free and included in the Canon ownership experience. I agree with other reviews, after spending tens of thousands on gear, especially when out in the field to handle a few shots on the spot to impress a client. Remove the spyware elements. And why are there so many apps: combine Camera Connect and DPP Express!
Useless. Even after moving to a subscription model, it fails to support all cameras that use .CR2. The app is not expanded to support .CR2 but only with a limited number of cameras. I have a 6D original, which supports .CR2 and is supported by Camera Connect but that file is disabled on DPPe. Why? Does Canon really believe such restriction will lead to users upgrading for its excellent cameras to the new brood?
Monthly sub after high cost of camera. Pretty egregious to lock basic software behind a pay sub. Makes no sense to pay for this when other professional options exist
Mediocre and then went subscription. The app fell far short of DPP on the desktop and was limited to a few cameras and file formats. While it was free, it was worth having on your iPad Incase you wanted to do a quick edit in the field but once Canon changed it to subscription it was an instant delete. I suspect if they’d kept it free and improved it, even gradually, the goodwill from having free raw editing on desktop and mobile would have been worth more than the small amount of subscription dollars they’ll earn. Silly Canon, opportunity missed.
Useless as is. I agree with others here. This app is currently pointless. Aside from the fact that it only accepts CR3 and jpegs, (which is ridiculous) it failed to import 4 jpegs! It complained of insufficient storage. Also ridiculous. This app also does not recognize HEIC files. iPhones have been shooting in HEIC for years now. How is it that Canon who makes such fantastic cameras can allow the release of useless/bad software?! Come on Canon. You can do much better.
Canon cripple hammer strikes again. It seems lately Canon is in a race to the bottom to see how little value they can provide to the customer at inflated profits. This poorly executed app with a monthly subscription fee is a perfect example. One Spends thousands of dollars on their camera and lenses, but now they want you to pay to see and edit the pics taken with that equipment. Pathetic. Shame on you Canon.
PLEASE allow access to folders!. Selecting from the camera roll with hundreds of raws is very difficult.. please allow choosing a folder when importing a photo!
Canon DPP Express + A13 and iOS Photos revamped my workflow. I have yet to find any issues using DPP Express with my SL3 and my iPhone. I usually stick to keeping edits to be as close to natural colors as possible, which makes DPP Express a great asset for me. The interface is much smoother than the desktop software. I also like that DPP Express can display histograms and focus points. The JPEGs that come from DPP are surprisingly easy to touch up further in iOS Photos. The end result is a much faster process to get photos ready for either social media or printing, with results that are much better than smartphone cameras are capable of. Similar results on my desktop could take 3 to 5 times longer. Much of that can be attributed to the efficiency of iOS and the power of the A13 chip.
Insultingly useless. This software is a joke. Not nearly as powerful as the desktop software. No dodging and burning. No masks. Just the most basic raw conversion features and pretty much nothing else. You’re better off using the raw conversion built in your camera and or using any other photo editing software available in the App Store, which will be 10x better. Doesn't allow you to view or import from an sd card reader. Can only load files from camera roll, or cannon camera connect (which is also a joke). And on top of this all canon, have the audacity to charge money for this app!? What a joke. I have tried to use this software multiple times and paid the silly one dollar a month fee hoping that they had improved. But over the years it’s just the same old nothing burger. Two stars.
Not good. Not that it’s a paid app it is even worse.. This was already a mediocre photo editor but we could forgive its many flaws while it was free, now that Canon is absurdly expecting to be paid monthly for its use, I deleted it.
Almost perfect. Great app. However, with the ability to create a color profile, using a color checker. Will make it better. For some photographers color management is very important, the color profiler will be a game changer while in the field.
Photo editing. Macro photography Editing software is lot more better
Came from a T7 to a R. I feel like I’ve been missing out ! Great app .
Actually Incredible. I love this app, works super well and offers a ton of stuff you can do to a photo that looks great. I do wish there were information cards about what some things are or do. But you can figure it out!
No folders??. Why can’t we select a folder when importing? Scrolling through the whole camera roll is tough.
Disappointing. This app is promising and I like some of the features but it’s ridiculous that you cannot import photos from the iPad local Files app, nor can you import directly from an SD card. If these features were added this app would be way more usable. Unsubscribing until they can add this feature.
They hold your images hostage unless you pay them a dollar a month.. Why are they forcing us to pay a dollar a month just to remove water marks
Surveillance. I’m not opposed to paying for a quality application, but the embedded Google surveillance components are overreach for a paid application. I’ll delete this application once R5MkII RAW support is available via iPadOS or another third-party application
Insulting Monthly rip off- no way to import from the cloud.. I kind of get why you can’t edit anything from the camera roll if it wasn’t a RAW file or jpeg from a canon camera but why can’t I import any files from the cloud or even from the files on my IPad. Importing from files is like the MOST basic feature humanly possible and it doesn’t exist here. That’s just dumb and completely ruins the workflow if I have to constantly import to camera roll just to edit things on the go. This is not worth a monthly fee and should at most be $5 once. Deleted and canceled almost immediately after finding out there’s no file import feature.
NYC. First time using this app and it’s so easy to use and definitely worth giving it a shot.
Extortion at its worst. So I spend US$4,000 on an R5 Mark II and another ~US$12,000 on Canon lenses and Canon expects me to pay them even more for the “privilege” of using this software on an iOS device? If this software is anything like every other Canon app, it will be one that isn’t well tested, has essentially no support, and will work only when on the odd day when it decides you’re worthy of using it. Canon stop being greedy, you already got our money, cut it out with this obnoxious money grab stunt. This is not how you build and maintain customer loyalty. If for no other reason then I don’t expect this from you but due from Adobe, I will continue to pay Adobe’s monthly subscription fee even though it’s more.
Downloaded, prompted with subscription, deleted.. I’m sure this works fairly well, but not well enough I’m inclined to pay monthly for it.
I needed simple this is it!. I was looking for an App to crop and reduce file size before sending images for review to other colleagues. I am like the ease of use and appreciate the edit functions that are available. I use my Mac and the other Canon workflow for the more detailed edits.
Canon Cripple Hammer strikes. Yes, I subscribed. Mainly because Apple has yet to provide raw file support for the RP (Canon you have anything to do with that? The R got supported pretty quickly.) I spent all this money on your cameras and then you chintz out on the necessary software. Been looking at the new Nikon Z50.
Money grab subscription. DPP has always been free. Probably one of the reasons you bought Canon instead of Sony. Now Canon is moving to subscription based software to view/alter their RAW files. Without a way to view/alter RAW files your “pro” $6k R3 body is kinda pointless.
No raw burst support. When I bought the subscription I was assuming that raw burst mode would also be supported with the R7 support? When you don't have a download for the Digital photo Professional 4 software for macOS Monterey, this is the only other to option to see the images out of camera for that mode. I had no other reason to download this app than that.
Should be free. I’ve spend thousands on Canon cameras and lenses. Don’t you have enough of my money? What do you think you’re accomplishing by watermarking exports? Why do you wish to alienate the people who actually care about raw images?
Limited Features. The app is okay but lacks real features not worth paying for. it’s far too limited it should at least be compatible to Lightroom. You can’t copy editing settings and paste to other photos, too much to have to edit each photo individually on a mobile device. It seems counterintuitive to a quick workflow.
Longie. My review mimics the last couple of reviews that I’ve read on this page. I’m invested in Canon for the long haul, but their software is very very hard to operate. One of the main reasons I stick to Canon is the fact that they repair facility is only a few miles away from mewhich is very easy to get to when I have a physical problem with one of my cameras. And I have a lot of them.
Ummm….. Please tell me I didn’t Spend thousands on canon camera and lenses then gotta pay 0.99 a month for a app to export raw images ?? Am I missing something? Or am I misunderstanding how this app works?
What is canon thinking?. Not good even without subscription and with this update and subscription they are making sure even the few who used it for a couple of times will no longer use it. Have no clue what the canon guys were thinking.
Need a desktop equivalent. The software is bit clunky to use but the quality of the photos processed from this tool is amazing. Canon please release a desktop version or just allow the iPad version to run on Macs with Apple Silicon.

Full app free for computers. I have been a Canon user for close on 50 years and ever since their DSLR’s have been out, they have supplied the full version of DPP for computer use free with their cameras. I can’t for the life of me can understand how they can charge for a very much cut down version for phones and tablets. Although I predominantly use Adobe for most of my editing, I find the full version of DPP picks up on more of the camera’s settings and continue to use it on my PC.
Waste of Time. Downloaded the app only to find that my Canon EOS 6D was not supported. Someone at Canon has been promoted beyond their ability.
Canon Ripping Of Customers. It’s bad enough a popular camera company has never included anything respectable for its customers for photo editing let alone now charging a subscription fee to use the terrible software they do provide! Perhaps Canon might one day reward their loyal camera & lens customers by not only supplying decent software but also including it with their premium camera prices?? Goodbye Canon…
Why. Is the question I ask when I found out this is a paid subscription only. This comes free with the camera for the desktop version so why is iOS version paid with no obvious advantage (if there is I can’t see it). Don’t waste your time, if you are going to pay use an Adobe product which is proven on the mobile platform.
Terrible app. So limited and they make you pay for it. Just use adobe
No CR2 support!. Can’t believe this has launched without support for CR2 files. Don’t waste your time downloading it.
Canon rips off its loyal customers. Cannot believe that after spending $$$$ on its cameras it now wants to slug us with a monthly subscription for a mediocre ap. Whoever came up with this “bright” idea has lost my customer loyalty, my next purchase will be anything other than Canon. Either make the app free or don’t provide it at all. Invest in one of the many excellent photo apps and don’t waste your money on this greedy corporation.
Paying for this app. Canon you have to be kidding if you think people are going to start paying for this app. There are free apps out there that do more.
A clever ploy to buy the latest Canon body. Useless for the majority of Canon owners. I'm prepared to pay an adobe subscription for Lightroom ,edit my photos in Affinity or Photoshop mobile. Use Duet to edit with ON1 I have owned Canon since 1978 with the AT-1 , T90, 20D, 600D & 5DSr. There are too many 3rd party alternatives these days to stay loyal to Canon. SAD
Good results. No area based edits. Good for beginners. Firstly please make this app free, and many people will be loyal for this reason. Raw processing of an image with a phone is a joke in my opinion as if someone shoots raw, they will use proper computer or a tablet for their edits. DPP is good to get colours right in the first place imo, but I assume and experienced that all other proper apps do it better. So either make it better or just don’t worry about it
Sorry, spending $10k/year on camera gear isn’t enough?. “Tell ‘em they’re Dreamin’…” I/we/all of us spend vast amounts on Cameras, lenses, flashes and accessories… and some Canon executive twits feel the need to charge for this very limited app? Rack off. I’ll/we’ll just keep paying $1200 per year to Adobe to do it right… Canon, either offer it free, to support your product or scrap it… don’t try charging for a product that is already heavily subsidised by your high profit products.
Subscription?! Really?!. I want to see the boardroom meeting where they decided to put a subscription on their mediocre iPad app. I love using my canon cameras because of how easy they are and part of that ease of use is the free software. even though the software is simple and can’t compare with offerings from Adobe, it at least used to be free. Now they want to charge for it every month even after they already charge you for the camera! The worst thing is that I used this app when it was free and now I have to find something else because there’s no way in hell I’ll pay a monthly subscription for something that came free with my camera.
Subscribe, for this junk? No thanks.. As other reviewers confirm, this is a very ordinary ordinary app and Canon should be ashamed to try and get people to pay for it. Read the room buddy.

Cr2. Add cr2 please
Mac laptop. Would like this available on the Mac desktop or laptop
Why Canon?. Why is canon charging a subscription for an app? Should be free for all canon owners!
No CR2?. Since the vast majority of Canon DSLRs produce .CR2 files, why would you even think of producing software that does not support them? This really makes the software useless to 99 percent of Canon shooters......
Why canon do this?. Why canon makes an application and charges it, it's illogical
Paywall even though says it's free. For a world class market leader of cameras Canon doesn't seem to understand the importance of designing and supporting apps for its products. The ones I have tried are overly complex to work with seamlessly, and the poor reviews are deserving. This app is advertised as free but isn't. The $1,29 a month isn't a big problem rather the expectations of their dedicated users like me should be. While the app looks what I want in principal I will continue to use alternative apps.
Why canon you persist at mediocrity. Archaic linking with 5D mk4 has to open other app and was unable to access the raw cr.2 Will stick to the old workflow of shuttersnitch to Lightroom cc Hope they can use their product on the field to see how it’s not responsive for professional work !! One day hopefully one day canon will respect their customers
Paid Subscription???. Im very confused. I’ve corresponded the Canon several times. They INSIST that this is a completely FREE app. No subscription required. They told me “This is not a canon app”. However the link they sent me takes me to this app ?????
Doesn’t make sense. I upload a photo to edit after subscribing and there are no extra features like it leads you to believe the only thing you can do is share and export
Very User Hostile! Extremely Unintuitive!. Don’t bother downloading this app. It cannot access images in the iPad Photos program and it doesn’t sync with Canon Camera Connect, with which you are supposed to download RAW images from your camera. Also, there is absolutely no documentation available from Canon or any other source, so it ends up being an extremely frustrating experience. I hesitate to give it even one star. Canon has a lot to do to fix this program and make it more user friendly. My initial experience with Canon Camera Connect was identical. Only in the second version was it slightly easier to use. Get with the times Canon!
Disappointed!!!. This must be Canons attempt at rent taking. It’s a terrible idea. Canon will never be Google Photo’s or Apple Photo’s, why do they try. Most of the features can be done in camera or with the free DPP on Windows or Mac. Why try to charge for it, it can’t be bringing in much income and will just piss off customers and sent them somewhere else for software. Come on Canon, grow up, give your head a shake and treat your customers like you care about them. I know I am wasting my time but I had to vent.
Why did Canon Create this App??. Why, why, why would Canon allow this waste of time and money to create and advertise that the Apps function will let you ‘Adjust RAW images freely’ - then it displays a message that the cr2 images files imported are unsupported. Seriously! iPad Pro and t7i
Does not work. Tried, no photos alright
First Photo 🙏👍👍. Ri
No support for raw files unless you have EOS R or m50. Frustrating
Low quality exports. It’s possible I could be missing something but when I export an image in the original resolution, it compresses the file so the quality of the image is garbage, specifically the og file size is about 40mb in its .CR3 RAW format, the exported photo is 7.6mb
Works well. One month in.. Using a Canon 6d mark ii and a 2020 iPad Pro 11 with it. I find that the colors processed through this app when processing raw files are absolutely excellent. Better than many if not all third party development software like Luminar etc I tried on my MacBook Pro. Well that shouldn’t surprise you since it’s all the family so to speak. Has everything you need to process your photos to your liking. I usually only transfer a few raw photos at any one time through Wi-Fi and don’t fuss with the SD card much. Transfers are slow through Wi-Fi on their companion app Cameraconnect. Lens corrections with Canon lenses are supported too another plus. Multiple edits can be done independently on any one raw file easily. Not a fan of paying a subscription every month but is affordable enough. ($1.?? In Canada) Does not support raw files from my older Canon 6d which I hope gets fixed in the future as I still really like that old camera. If you have a supported camera and like editing your raw files I think you will like this app. Editing on an iPad works well.

Práctico y fácil de usar. Es práctico
Will not download raw from iPhone or iPad.. Disappointing!
No support for CR2 format ugh. No support for CR2 format ugh
Cr2 must be added. Unacceptable to not support most all cameras in your line for raw. Fix it please.
No raw export?. And a subscription?
Developed by Canon?. What a shame!
Nice try. Seriously no CR2 editing?
3 supported cameras. This truly doesn’t make sense, only 3 supported cameras. No CR2.
Wow. Why not support cr2 why
Request. I have canon eos 70 D and it does not work . I am curios whether it will be able to do so in new update
Great. Grand
No Support for $6500 Camera! Really???. App is a waste for 99.9% of Canon users/owners.
update for canon eos m100. hi! i nuy a eos m100 i cant use the app, the camera is pretty but update please i want to use it and others with the m100, thanks 📷👍
A paid app instead of free like for Windows and Mac. Not only a paid app it doesn’t support my Canon cameras notably: 5D, 40D, M3, and 7D mk2... Disappointed. :( :(
NO CR2 RAW FILE SUPPORT. Very disappointed. This app has great potential but most Canon EOS cameras are left out.My new EOS 6D Mark 2 included.Come on Canon, please fix this quickly.Restore confidence of a 50 year Canon user.
Perfecta. Me ha ahorrado muchísimo tiempo en corrección de exposición, color y enfoque, una total belleza esta app.
Beginner Photographer. Great app so far! Super easy to use. Just watched a view hours of YouTube to figure what things do and this app does magic!
CR2 SUPPORT. Ok?????? Really NO CR2 SUPORT‼️‼️
Monthly Charge.... Bye-bye
Lens corrections for RAW on iPad. Many lenses really need software correction profiles. Like the 24-240 massive vignette correction, or 85mm 1.8 CA issues. This programs auto applies all the corrections. Apple Photos cannot, nor does any other cheap RAW software or editor I tried on my iPad. Sure it’s annoying its subscription based, but it’s a buck. I don’t recall seeing RAW software from the other camera brands at all, much less free. So hard to really complain. At least there’s an option. I think the only other option for lens correction is LIghtroom and that is 10x the cost per month.
CANON: PLEASE ADD CR2 SUPPORT. Please stop being stingy. I will eventually upgrade to the newest stuff but just give your old(er) cameras some love.
