SSH Tunnel - with SOCKS5 proxy App Reviews

This app is out dated. 9 USD for an app which updated two years ago. Dear developer, please update this app to allow background process without update for supporting features in iOS 16; this app is useless.

Concept is good and works but…. due to apple restrictions it can’t run in background. If you switch to another app it will close the connection within 30 seconds. Thus making it useless if you want to use the tunnel for other apps. Makes me wonder why configure the wi-fi proxy at all if you can only use the built in-browser. I gave it 3 stars not because the app is not what i need but because I wish there was a note indicating the Apple restrictions and the fact it close the connection within 30 seconds. That would have been a nice to know before paying the $7.99 the app costs.

No SOCKS5 Support. I must be missing something? I don’t see any SOCKS5 support. It only attempts to make an SSH connection for the tunnel instead of using a SOCKS5 endpoint.

Only real usable tunneling app for iOS. I’ve tried others, but with iOS 14 blocking background tasks, they’re unusable. This app would be much better if one could use Safari for the tunnel without needing to run both in split view, but the developer’s addition of a built-in browser makes this only a minor grievance and is a good workaround for Apple’s restrictions. Only requests: allow for multiple simultaneous tunnels at once and an option to have tabs in the built-in browser.

Needs update for iOS 16!!. Dear developer; Please update this app for iOS 16, otherwise we can not use it on iPhone with iOS 16. I would like to use it in iPhone, to totally send all traffic through ssh tunnel. But this is not possible now. Hope you update the app, and resolve problems in iOS 16. Best regards.

App Store restrictions not told. Unfortunately I could not get it work because of App Store restrictions. I wish the developers were transparent about this before my purchase. Not satisfied.

App does exactly what I need. The bad thing about it is we have gone from the annoying message to enable location services to now being prompted EVERYTIME I close the app whether I like it or not. After answering yes multiple times and still being prompted I now say NO because this is very annoying.

Waste of money. It doesn’t support background running and only last 30 seconds if you leave the app or lock the phone, so you can’t do anything other than just literally “connect” to a ssh server. completely useless.

Good app!. Overall, this app has what I need, however, I feel like something happened with the app recently where performance is real slow. Also, I noticed it keeps bugging me about location when the previous version never asked for it (not sure why it’s needed).

Does not work in background- pretty much useless. Is a nice app. If it worked in the background it would be a great app. Apple needs to support things like this (at least on ipad) I’m sure the dev has put a lot of time and money into making this. I wish I could say it worked. Not operating in the background though totally breaks most workflows. In app browser is bad, and even if it was good would still be very suboptimal. We have reached a sad state of affairs! I developed web services in blink shell, but now without this app working in the background that workflow is wrecked. RIP ipad pro 2018.

The best dynamic forwarding app for IOS. Works as advertised. This is the only app I’ve found so far that supports dynamic forwarding. Thank you! However, there’re some glitches like ports not being freed up after the proxy is terminated. I have to wait for like 5-10 minutes before I can run the proxy on the same port again. It’d great if you can fix that in the next version. Anyway, great app!

A great app is now even better!. When I got this app a while back, it was good, but I was not able to enter an arbitrary url after connecting. The workaround was to open the browser of choice and then launch the app on top / to the side (this is still good for testing different mobile browsers). Now I can enter the URL I need to the built-in browser and use it full screen. The only possible improvement would be for Apple to allow this to run in the background without disconnecting.

Not working. It doesn't work on the phone. It shows an error: it is not working on the background. Also I can't refund my money. It is completely scam.

Non functional. The app can’t keep connections open in the background, so you can’t tunnel your applications. It has a built in browser, but no way to type URL’s so you can’t tunnel to anything you can’t search for on a search engine. You can’t change the browser settings. Virtually useless.

Great app and SOCKS proxy works. Works as expected. Using dynamic (SOCKS) forwarding allows access through firewall and proxy autoconfig URL automatically configures iOS and doesn’t require reconfiguring iOS connection settings betweeen enabling and disabling tunnel.

Solid app - does exactly what it promises. I have wanted to stream video for a long time, from a webcam at home so I can keep an eye on my 3D printer. I don't like the cloud-based webcam options, but instead, preferred to stream directly over an SSH connection. Problem was, I couldn't find an SSH tunnel app. Until now, that is. SSH Tunnel does exactly what I wanted, with no frills, but with all of the options I need. And it works very well. Only one suggestion for future enhancement... it would be very useful if one could forward more than just a single port within a single tunnel - at the moment, I think only one is possible. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product!

Using this app to have a list SSH. Great !. Works for me. From China, using app specific proxy and DNS proxy.

Excellent. This app is incredible. My work requires an annoying daisy-chaining of tunnels to access my desktop PC’s RDP, but this handles them all just fine. I can use Microsoft’s iOS RDP client with ease by connecting to the tunneled port. I love it. Thank you!

Ssh tunnel expirence. Works as expected and required. Supports ipv6 addressing even if my VNC service does not....This is a great app!

Great app, works well. I love everything about it to the pac script for dynamic web tunnel and such. I just have one complaint. Can we make 127.0.0.13389 have the port separated with a colon on the local side? Line 127.0.0.1:3389, eliminates any confusion.

Needs background app refresh. Works great but would appreciate if you could update it to work with background app refresh so you can connect to the forwarded port in other apps

Amazing tunnelling app. I am happy to see that took in AppStore. Very useful. The only negative moment is the you cannot put it in Shadow/background mode and the reason for that is not clearly explained by DEVs. Was it an Apple constraint? Why?

Revised review. Thanks to the developer for the interest in replying. The reason for the changes in the upgrade make much more sense now. This is truly one of my all time favorite apps and I’ve revised my rating to reflect that. Original review: Used to work more smoothly, now frequently struggles to connect and/or stay connected. Also suddenly starts asking me to set location services to always on. Ummm...no. Also why all of a sudden?? Sketch, bruh

Warning: Tunnel only works for 10 seconds.. DO NOT BUY. Creator is not actively fighting for that apple restriction. Tunnel close after 10 seconds if you go to other apps. Its doesnt work background so if youre planning to use that tunnel out of the app. Goodluck with that 10 secs switching back and forth to keep tunnel alive.

This is exactly what I've been looking for.... UPDATE 8/23/17 (part 2): 5 starts, both for functionality and developer responsiveness Developer got back to me super quick and pointed me at the 'Local bind port' setting. Setting that explicitly makes the PAC name consistent and you can leave you PAC URL in setting alone. Works absolutely great! Yes, other time this can use some documentation updates etc, but it does EXACTLY what it needs to now. UPDATE 8/23/17: Added another star to the rating and bought to unlimited connection upgrade. I now got it to work and there's only one remaining niggle preventing easy use of the SOCKS5 proxy. It works but takes a bit more taps than I'd like. I contacted the dev via the new support form to share my ideas. Very excited about this! Just got NoMachine to work through it! Original review: I need an app that allows me to ssh into work and run a SOCKS5 proxy so I can use a local browser on my iPad. It may very well work but my guesses as to the setup were apparently wrong... It fails to connect via the private key I supplied. The verbose output does not actually indicate the problem, though. Will have another look. The other issue is that there is currently no documentation at all. Really hoping all this gets ironed out because I desperately need this functionality (and am willing to pay for it, too)

Great App until IOS 13. I paid for this application and it worked well for a few months but now it is broken and cannot maintain the connection while in the background. I suggest suspending the sale of this application until you can work with Apple on a real fix.

Unprofessional. Poorly finished app. You can edit or delete connections you made. Plus you cannot do remote port forwarding

Great app. This is simply the best tool for surfing inside a corporate network for IPhone. Can't believe it's even ads-free & proprietary-free.

Cannot running in background. Hi Developers/Viewers First of all, the app does it job, functionally it works, we can do ssh tunneling with it. However, when we are doing tunneling, we will almost for sure do something else in some other apps, so this will require the app to be able to running in the background and keep the tunnel open. Unfortunately, after a few minutes, the tunnel will be not responding, and I have to go back to the SSH Tunneling app to make the nun else responsive. If this bug is fixed, then the app would be extremely useful. And I really hope it can be fixed. Sincerely, Josh

Thank Goodness for this App. Just what I needed to get the job done. Get it now before Apple decides it is too useful! [Edit] this app saved me a drive into the office today, yet again it has proven its worth.

Does what it says. Works really well. I would love some integration with Shortcuts - I’d pay for that via IAP!

Hard to believe what’s possible on iOS these days. Great utility that works exactly as it promises. No frills, just an iOS version of what you’d be handling on the command line elsewhere. Plenty of ways to improve (UI, prompts, warnings) but a very stable app first and foremost. So I am happy to keep using while (if) the developer decides to put those features in.

Scam app. Hello I don’t use this app once I downloaded when I can’t used I deleted and you charge me 15 dollar can u tell me why u charge if I don’t have subscription

Why force us to use location services?. Got it. I just don't want location records being propagated, transmitted and sold... I may have to stop using the app, even if I like it very much. Good app. Works very well. Last update forces you to enable location services for it to work in the background. Why? It used to background perfectly well without this before the update. Should be an option, no?

I couldn't use it :(. I use ssh tunneling in PC for years. I wanted something like that to force all apps go through that tunnel. I thought this app can do but didn't! I wish I could get my USD $10 back!
