Best $30 Spent in Hawai’i. We bought the bundle of narrated tours and just finished our second one during our 7-day trip. I cannot stress this enough — just buy all of them! Shaka Guide makes you a visitor instead of a tourist. We learned history and Hawaiian culture that we would have otherwise skipped over, thus forcing us to slow down and be part of Aloha culture. We also feel like we got a $1,000 tour of the East Shore of Oahu for $30. If you’re like us and don’t want to micromanage every part of your trip, download Shaka Guide and you’ll have the time of your life. Also, shout out to the “Hawaii’s Best” podcast who featured Shaka Guide co-founder, Andrew, and opened our eyes to the best kept secret of Hawaiian travel.

Around the island. We went to yamas yo pick up our grinds then went through the mountain on the windward side was an experience driving there , it’s like Las Vegas one way in one way out , we pulled over on the shoulder to lunch at kaaawa then continued on our mission wit the bradah, drive by drive , there were a few bad reception, out side of that it was really a adventure for me that is then we stoped at teds bakery which there close to further notice, covid19 yikes ruin it for everyone, which is good to be close but in a way it’s the best on the island blueberry pie yummy, butter roll is huge butter all over the face , hmm yeah that’s it went home to Honolulu? Check you out later out!

Circle Island Tour. First, thanks to Andrew for helping us get our purchase to work properly. We had a bit of a problem with the download but he figured it out in a matter of minutes. We were on the road by 8 AM. This tour is fabulous!!! We enjoyed it so much as did our 17 yr old daughter. It was nice to go at our own pace and stay as long or short as we wanted to at each location. We really enjoyed the narration and the music. Really kept our interest. We liked how it knew exactly where we were offline, too. Very cool!! We liked this one so much that we’re going to do the South Shore Tour tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your love of the Oahu Island. We can’t wait to visit again. Mahalo

Saved Oahu for us. We spent most of a month on the Hawaiian islands and Oahu was our last island and definitely our least favorite. Since my Husband permanently uses a wheelchair, regular tours and beaches are mostly unavailable to us, so we really rely on exploring on our own. The north shore circle tour was our favorite day on Oahu. You think of Oahu as just mostly Waikiki and Honolulu, which was too much city for us. This tour showed us that more natural side of Oahu and was,like every other Shaka app we’ve used, absolutely flawless. We also enjoyed the Honolulu city walking tour. We got a lot of great historical information. Interestingly, we had a private guided tour of the Missouri and Pearl Harbor and on the drive there and back, she was talking about Hawaiian history and culture and in my head, I kept saying, Shaka already told us that. So I will say, the information is spot on to what you would receive from even a highly rated tour. The Shaka apps are maybe my favorite apps ever in terms of how useful, interesting and easy to use. Worth every penny and then some. We used it on 4 islands and it greatly enhanced our trip. Now that we’re home, we find ourselves missing Shaka and his corny jokes and laugh.

Fantastic App. This app was amazing!! I bought the Oahu Island Circle tour on a whim after renting a car in Waikiki. The directions were clear and easy to follow and the stories were informative and delightful. The narrator had a wonderful personality. What I would say, however ... is that I wasn’t really clear on how to “start” the app to get t the narrating. We basically drove until we actually got on the route (H1 West) and then all of a sudden the guided part of the app started right up!! It was seamless once you get n the tour path ... but until then ... it seemed like we were kind of on our own. We got the app literally as we were walking down to the rental ... so really didn’t put too much thought into reading directions. Once we “got it” - we LOVED the thoughtful, easy directions, and will use Shaka guides in the future when touring Hawaii. BTW - this saved us hundreds as compared to getting a private tour!!! We rented a convertible Mustang and had a blast with this app.

Both of these tours on Oahu are amazing!!. Mahalo for the best app ever. We took both tours around Oahu and had the best time. This is my third time on the island, my fiancé’s first. He saw more in a couple of days, than I saw in all my other times. We were both impressed with all of the history of what we were seeing, as well as the music played. Thank goodness I found this, and didn’t pay some tour company $125 a piece for theirs. We loved being on our timetable, and being able to stay places as long as we wanted, or just move on, if it didn’t interest us. We will definitely use the other apps in the future, when visiting other islands. Wonderful job, guys. We recommend that everyone use this. It’s affordable, and very well worth a look. Especially if you are trying to see the whole island in the most affordable way ever. 🌴🤙🌈🏄🏻‍♀️

Must Have App. Use this app if you are vacationing on Oahu, period!! We were so happy with every facet of the app. The music, the history, the fun facts as you drive, and most of all the locations it recommends are just things you won't find in an easy-to-navigate, compact guide anywhere else. We saw some of the most breathtaking views, were tipped off about good local food and roadside stores, and enjoyed hearing the stories the guide tells you in between. With a car charger, you do plenty enough driving to keep your phone charged, and the no data option is absolutely genius. I downloaded it ahead of time and had no problems whatsoever. We did the Circle Tour and edited it a bit to our needs. We then completed it over the course of 2 days because we went during the winter and lost sunlight fast. It could be done in 1 day if you start early in the AM and pay attention to the time, but we had no need to be rushed.

Kinda fun!. We did the circle of the island. The ap worked great. Nav was a little off only insofar as it could have give a little more warning about turns on a couple of occasions, but as long as you’re paying attention, you’ll get it. Best way I can think of to get acquainted with Hawaii. Loved it! Hot tip::: we left at 7:15am. We were 30 minutes early for the Japanese Temple to open at 8:30am, and more than 40 minutes early for the Polynesian Cultural center to open—just the market side. We arrived at Dole at 4:30 so we only had time for the train and some Dole whip. It’s every bit of a full day. I would have rather gone to the Waterfall in the morning so I wish they’d offer a reverse tour because that was the selling point

WE HAD A BLAST WITH THIS APP!. Discovered this by accident about a month before our trip to Oahu and didn't really know how it would work out. What we did know is we didn't want to spend BIG bucks to tour the island in a bus on a timetable! We made the $10 plunge, along with the minimal tour costs for each tour (Circle and South End)...AND WE LOVED IT...IT WAS AWESOME! It's easy to use, directional, informative, funny, and just out right entertaining! AND, we could do it all within our own timetable...multiples times, if we wanted! When I had a slight "user error" issue, I called them and got a real person who was awesome and walked me through it in no time. During our entire trip we were telling others that they should get this if they really wanted to get to know the island, it's history, culture and some of the hidden adventures. If we go back to other islands, this will be the first thing we'll use! Highly, highly recommended! Great job you guys! Thanks!

Amazing tours, great service. We love the tours - have done them for several years across all islands. They are fun, informative, and easy to follow! Our now 10yo enjoys it, and even the 6yo listens to it! Lots of great pointers and interesting information - but not so much as to be overwhelming. We’ve never had an issue until this last tour downloaded, but then seemed stuck “processing”. The issue may have been spotty cellular coverage when I was getting it setup, who knows. Of course this was 10mins before we wanted to take it and I tried calling support. It was Saturday, when they are closed - so I hung up…to my surprise they called me back 2mins later and helped me! Outside of business hours on a weekend! The tour worked great - we loved it (as we did the many others we took from Shaka on different islands). What an awesome company and a great product!! If you are still thinking - get it!! (Also I tried a couple competitors and we like Shaka best).

Well worth the $. We purchased both tours and had a great time. Definitely give more time than the app recommends as there are several places you will want to stop and take your time at along the way. I would also suggest you look through the attractions on each tour before you start the tour. We saw a number of packed tour buses along the way, but this app allowed us to do a tour on our own and take as much time as we wanted, for far less money. If you are visiting Oahu, I highly recommend you purchase these tours. The developers and tour guides that put this together did a fantastic job. I will definitely purchase their other tours/apps in the future.

All Shaka Tours. The best thing since apple pie. Rate these tours a five star but that doesn’t do them justice. The tours were way past our expectations. The tours are all inclusive of each island, giving directions, how to get there, what to expect, restroom location (which was very important on each island), where food is available, your location at all time, and the background music and commentary were all great. Not only are the “must see” places covered, but the many out of the way sites are included. We’ll be recommending these tours to everyone going to Hawaii. Thanks for a very memorable vacation.

Best Investment ever. We highly recommend this to any, and everyone. A few years ago when we came to the island we took a bus tour around the island and it was nice, but we were on everyone else’s time. With this tour, you hear the guy guiding you, giving you directions, and it’s so easy and fun. They tell you stories and give you history while you’re driving. They play music for you while you’re driving and you feel like you have your own tour guide in your backseat. The great thing is, you do it on your own time. If you wanna stop at a destination, you can. If you don’t want to stop, you don’t have to. It tells you places to eat, it shows you all the beautiful beaches and the directions it gives you is so precise. I highly, highly recommend this and for the amount you pay, it’s soo worth it. Here’s the major bonus, you don’t have to leave a tip at the end. This has by far been one of the best tours/days we’ve had on the island!

Must-Do for O’ahu!. My family visited the island May 2021 and it was our first time visiting the island. We love going on guided tours, but sometimes the tours feel rushed to get everything in. With the Shaka App you can go at your own pace, decide how long you want to stay at your location, skip locations if you want, etc. Plus, being that we visited when there were still Covid regulations and we had our own vehicle, we didn’t have to worry about wearing a mask in the car! We learned so much with “Shaka” and would recommend all his O’ahu tours. (Trust us, you’re going to want to utilize all the tours.) We can’t say thank you enough for making this incredible app!

Ten Stars. Having only one day with a car we chose the N. Shore Circle the Island Tour. From the moment we left our hotel in Waikiki this Self drive tour was a much better experience than we have ever had with any personal tour guide. We we’re guided every step of the way and it entertained us with stories and just the perfect music in between and pointed out every point of interest along with restaurant recommendations, restroom facilities and great stories and history throughout the drive. I highly recommend shocker self driving tours. It made our day perfect. As we were driving on H1 back to Waikiki there was a huge rainbow stretching all the way across the sky and the tour had somewhere over the rainbow playing. The perfect end to a perfect day end to a perfect day.

Excellent tour guide for trips to Hawaii!. My wife and I had been to Hawaii almost 20 years ago (pre kids) and wanted to share some of the great spots we found with our kids this trip. However, so much had changed and we had limited time to see and do the best stops in Maui and Oahu, so glad we found this app as it was absolutely priceless in pointing us to all the best stops and helped to make things stress free as we didn’t have to agonize over whether we were missing anything we would later regret not stopping for. The Shaka app does a great job of pointing out all the best spots you would want to stop with limited time!

So helpful and interesting!. A VP at work learned I was going to Hawaii and highly recommend Shaka Guide. I read Hawaii travel reviews, but I didn’t have the confidence that I had a thorough plan so I gave it a shot. This is the best app I’ve ever used. It took me a little getting used to at first, but after the initial orientation, it was so simple and helpful. I downloaded 2 tours and that gave me 4 days of fun! The guides cover major stops with bonus gems, plus included a lot of background and history of the island. There were stops and recommendations that I hadn’t seen on travel sites that made the trip special. This app will save you hours of planning and put you on your way to a fun-packed vacation. I can’t recommend Shaka Guide enough.

Best day of the trip so far!. After a couple days at the resort we wanted to explore the island. Rented a cat and downloaded Oahu full circle. The app synced up with car audio easily and automatically via usb cord and Apple play. App gps picked up our location and gave great directions to the tour starting point. We left the app running the entire time with via a power cord via usb and Apple play running all day the phone stayed charged and the tour guide with his island trivia interspersed perfectly with silence and island music and fantastic gps and audio directions. I can not recommend this highly enough. My entire family listened intently most of the time and we got to pick and choose what we wanted to do along the way spending as much or as little time as we wanted along the way. Definitely do this app and tour. Mahalo from first time Texas visitor!!

Great guide! Will definitely buy another island in the future!. Shaka OAHU was a great guide. This was my 7th trip to Oahu in the last 12 months, but since my wife was coming along this time, we decided to grab the app to learn more about the island. The tour was great (very similar to what I did myself previously using the rental car map books), but the narration and GPS guidance was really worth the extra few dollars I spent on the app. Haven't been here many times, I knew most of the "big ticket" items to see, but the app took us to a couple "off-the-path" places that we really loved (like the waterfall off Pali in the Southern Island tour). The only complain I had was that there are parts where there are "blanks" (no narration and no music). Would be great if they had a simple "Hawaiian music" loop that plays when you are between tour spots for a little driving music. Since it uses my iPhone while driving, I couldn't play my own music, either. Otherwise, a great app and I hope they make a few more, maybe some walking tours through Waikiki or Honolulu?

Really enjoyed this tour!. My family really enjoyed this narrated tour of the North Shore. I had no idea what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised and really amazed how well the tour kept up with where we were on the map. The narration provided great insight to what we were going to see, recommended great stops and gave a historical and cultural perspective that was very interesting. You can start and stop the tour at your leisure so when you pull off to see something…you can stop the tour and pick up right where you left off when you get back in your car. The beach recommendations were fantastic. We stopped at three of them. We visited the North Shore twice during our stay and there was a noticeable difference in traffic on a weekend (Sunday - heavy traffic) and a weekday (Wednesday - very light traffic). Overall this tour is well worth the cost!

Extremely accurate and entertaining. First review I've ever made on anything but my family and I felt that we needed to let the people know that this app is worth every penny and more. Extremely accurate real time driving instructions. You will not get lost! You will experience just about everything that Hawaii has to offer from beaches to country to food and snacks! My kids named the guide Uncle Koko and we wish he was our Uncle in real life! We did the east side tour which took about 4 hours with stopping at just about everything and we also did the big circle loop that we did in about 6 hours and we chose what we wanted to see and do. The app just flows with whatever you are doing. Highly recommended and very much appreciated!

Wow this was really fun!. Ok I was really skeptical about this app, but, it was awesome. You drive to the number 1 stop and it starts telling you where to go, ( he gives you a heads up on lanes and that stuff but, will say turn here so be ready to turn!). He took us to places we would have never found on our own. We did the circle tour and Wednesday we are doing the the East tour, at first I thought I screwed up because the circle tour goes through the East side but, then I checked and it takes you to different places. I highly recommend this app, he tells you to download the tour and to bring a charger fo your phone and was right! Just do it you will be happy you did!

Awesome. Virtual tour guide Saved my day!. Kids got got us on a late start, had to change plans last minute. The Tour guide in Maui actually uses this app on the tour bus. Told us to try it. So a couple days later in Oahu, late for lunch and all our plans are messed up.. Like $10 later and a couple minutes of down load, I went from no plans and crazy kids... To a self guided tour of the island and kids in back of the rental car. A nice relaxing 5 hours around the island. With the Shaka App tour guide using GPS to tell me where to drive, when to turn, what to look for, what we can do when we get there, let's us skip things, and tells us history and stories. Instead of dragging around kids walking wakiki - I got a relaxing drive and virtual tour with amazing scenery and some great places to visit while the kids did whatever on their phones in the back seat. Sometimes kids make things hard. But the virtual tour guide saved my day in Oahu by being on demand, flexible, affordable, and helpful. If you don't get a chance to plan for a trip to Hawaii. A simple rental car and this tour guide app can keep you busy for several days and you'll enjoy it. This app made a crazy stressful day an easy relaxing 5 hours of sight seeing. Gave us bathroom stops, good food stops, great photos and off the beaten path views.

Best app ever!. I purchased both the North Shore and the Circle Island tours in Oahu and 2 of the Hana Tours and the Haleakala tour in Maui. In would have given them 5 stars just on customer service, I had some questions and send them an email before we came to Hawaii and I was impressed by how Andrew replied to all my emails and how helpful he was. So 5 stars before I even used the app. Now that I actually did the tours I would give them 10 stars if it was available. This was our second time in Hawaii last time we used Gipsy Guide, it was ok but Shaka blew them out of the water. “Eddie” as we call it took us to places that you don't read about on blogs or find in Pinterest, there were a couple of places we went to that we were the only tourists, in some we were the only ones there. There was a lookout point at Haleakala (this is our second time there) that Eddie told us to stop at, again we were the only car in the parking lot, and this was the best look out in history, the view were breathtaking, and the pictures.. WOW, It was awesome! We keep saying, Hey, Eddie would go LOL. Thank you Shaka Guide 🤙🏻🤙🏻

15/10 would recommend ✅🤙. My husband and I did the Oahu circle tour today, and it was truly one of the happiest days of our lives. We only got through 3/4 of the trip in 12 hours after stopping at several of the recommended locations for extended exploring - we may have taken “Hawaii time” a little too seriously 😂. This app and narration made navigation simple, stress free, and made getting from point A to point B an experience. Can’t wait to finish up this tour another day and see how many more we can fit in. (If you’re renting a car for this and your party will fit, definitely consider getting a convertible - it took this day to the next level!).

Amazing. Found this app while Googling for places to see in Hawaii for a day. This was the BEST! Told you exactly where to go. Threw in some history and even music. Never knew an app like this existed. We saw places we would never have known about had we not used this app. And the beaches it takes you to are breathtaking. Only negative is when it takes off from Waikiki up until the first stop at the temple, it doesn’t give you enough notification to get over to exit or turn. So if there is traffic moving at a good speed you’ll likely miss the exit if you’re not in the 2 right lanes. But overall, I 100% recommend this app.

Great Tour App!. I purchased both the Oahu Circle Island tour and the South Shore tour, and they were great! I did the Circle Island drive with my extended family, and everyone was very impressed with the sights and stops on the tour. It was also very easy to use. Some of our favorite stops were the lookout point in Laie, the food trucks on the North Shore, and Shark’s Cove for snorkeling. The driving directions were very easy to follow, and the narration was fun and informational! The South Shore tour was my favorite, and my husband and I found our new favorite parts of the island at Kailua and Lanikai beach. I read about some of the app stops in guide books, but the ease and flow of having the app lead you through the island can’t be beat. I highly recommend the tour and plan to purchase other island tours when I visit Hawaii in the future!

My family of 2 adults & 2 x 22yos loved it!. We knew we wanted to do visit the North Shore but weren’t quite sure what there was to see and where to go. This app took all the guesswork out of it for us! The directions were super easy to follow and the information provided was fabulous! It was like having a private guide but we could do things at our own pace and things that interested us. $20 well spent! Loved the geology information at the end. Would love to hear more about that. The tidbits of history were very interesting as well. I actually got teary-eyed during the story of the missile alert! Thanks for a great afternoon!!

Best part of our trip. This app was worth it 110%! Having this play over the speakers of the Jeep while we drove through the island made this seem like a real adventure. The music, stories, and food stops, made the trip fantastic. Simply googling destinations is not the way to see the island. This takes you to places you would never find on your own, and too many to remember if someone told you. We did both tours on the app for Oahu and it took us three days to compete! I had a question about the app, tapped the phone number available an someone answered within 3 rings and answered my question! I wish they had these tours for Illinois!! Amazing job! And the price is worth every penny!!! Honestly made the vacation 100X better than we dreamed.

Do this instead of one of those rushed island tours!. My husband and I downloaded this guide over breakfast as we discussed taking an Oahu island tour. I had been on an island tour with one of the small tour companies in Nov 2015. It was great, but I felt very rushed. My husband and I always rent a car when we're on the island, and decide to venture in our own. I started mapping a route but needed a tour guide. That's when I thought to search for an app that does it all. This one really delivers! So rent a car, skip the pricey, rushed island tours and venture in your own! The guide is extremely accurate and led us to MANY unbelievable sites! My favorite was the jungle waterfall on Mt. Pali! Get this app, you won't be disappointed!

Still Processing. I was excited to download the North Shore driving tour before we hit the road to North Shore. It took several hours to complete, and yes, I had WIFI at our hotel, 4 hours later it still said processing. So I decided I couldn’t hold up our day any longer and left for our drive to North Shore. Messaged the app and I was told to uninstall and reinstall that sometimes this happens with certain phones, I have an iPhone with AT&T, 🙄 nevertheless I was no longer in a WIFI area and said forget it, give me my money back, sent the receipt as they requested, Apple sent me a refund. North Shore Tour still says processing, obviously they have issues with their North Shore tour, super disappointed because I heard such great things form a travel group I’m part off. My advise if your going to do this tour, do it several days before you plan to do the tour so you have time to monkey with it if it doesn’t work.

It is TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY!!!. We called him Frank.. We bought this App because it looked cool and we couldn’t have been happier with the finished product. There were seven of us driving around in a rental car following this app’s instructions, and I can tell you it was the best guided tour we’ve ever been on. That includes Paris and Rome and other cities where we took professional tours. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this tour. If you’re planning to drive around the island and you’re looking for something to enhance the trip for everybody and also to find out of the way places that a normal tourist won’t find it then this app is your answer, trust me you will not be sorry..

We named him "Shaka". Just listen to Shaka (even if it is a hand signal), he'll tell you where to go!! We loved the large circle tour and we'll likely get the south tour tomorrow before we go to the airport. We're on the main island for a wedding that was on the north shore in Laie. Since we wanted to hit the dole plantation on the way back, it made sense to buy the tour for $5. While at the wedding, it was pretty fun sharing all the cool information that Shaka had told us up to that point. We met back with our group at Waimea and told them that we had visited the ceremonial grounds where human sacrafices had taken place, others finally asked, "where are you getting this information?" (Shaka!). I have the same complaint of the odd no sound spots, but the views certainly compensate for the silence. Also, it may have just been the USB connectivity in the car, but the last 1 or 2 seconds of the directions seemed to cut out, which at some points, included critical driving directions. Fortunately, we didn't get lost, and the map is easy to follow in case you somehow miss a turn.

Shaka Oahu. Wonderful! Fantastic! Great! I, with my 2 young adult children, took this tour our first day on the island to get familiar with the ‘layout’. The ‘guide’ was fun, very informative, easy voice, etc. We fell in love with him. The driving instructions are very detailed & easy to follow. We laughed each time he told us ‘good job’ after completing a turn or a merge etc. (not annoying he didn’t over do it). My children handled the technical stuff - very easy & there were no tech issues. We stopped at some sites and bypassed some. Each time we got back in car it started right where it should. And it was easy to jump ahead or go back. Again, the guide was perfect, the ‘stories’ and information were very good. And it was nice because he wasn’t talking the whole time. This app is a gem and you can’t beat the price!!

Great. Our private tour guide that we booked months in advance never showed up to take us on our tour, so we used Shaka Guide. It was a good, inexpensive alternative with lots of information and historic tidbits. I thought there was a little too much, so pick and choose if you don’t want to be overloaded. Also, if you go snorkeling in shark cove, go to the left of the public restroom. The waves are too strong with too many rocks down the right slope, and prepare to have your feet exfoliated by the sharp, rocky “sand”. The recorded guide was right every time for where to turn and what you would see, so the gps was right on as well. The only drawback was the commentary was pretty cheesy sometimes, which must be hard to find the right line between informative and entertaining for all audiences, but not boring. Overall a good experience and alternative to the disappointment of the private tour guide not showing up…I still don't know what happened to them!

Amazing app for Hawaii touring!!. This is one of the coolest apps my wife and I have ever used! We spent 5 days on Oahu (our first trip to Hawaii), and we were able to explore so much of this island with our Jeep rental thanks to this app. It is incredibly well designed, with the app linking to our phone's GPS to both navigate our routes and provide fascinating information about each site seen as well as history of the island and Hawaiian culture. The app senses when you enter a designated area and automatically starts narrating and/or providing directions. It is incredibly well-timed -- on more than one occasion the guide would say something like "turn right and head uphill, but watch out for cyclists" and almost on cue a biker would immediately turn the corner in front of us. Clearly the app creators are intensely familiar with the areas covered in their tours. We saw and learned so much touring the island with this app (that we never would have discovered on our own) and highly recommend it for any new travelers to the island!

Exceeded expectations in every way!. I’ve never left a review before, but since this app made our first trip to Oahu so much better than it would have been without it, I felt guilty not sharing the praise publicly. Pros: 1. absolutely great app design, with one small nit-picky exception I’ll share below. 2. The most comprehensive list of sites, activities and everything you’d ever want to do or see on the island that I could find online anywhere. 3. Really cool GPS based guidance and narration, with cool historical facts, island music, and a few jokes mixed in here and there to liven up the day a little. 4. The price is a great value for what you get! Cons: 1. Well, there really weren’t any major issues, but if I were to offer one suggestion to improve the experience, it would be to better integrate food stops into the tour and/or make it easier to find and navigate to your comprehensive food guide that’s kind of hidden in a link in the FAQ page. Even better yet, just pick one or two great options and build them in as stops on the route. We spent 15-30 minutes parked on the sid wig the road trying to find your food guide and then figure out when and where to stop to eat lunch on each route. When the whole family is hangry, it can be a vacation killer. With that said, this really is just a minor complaint and overall, I gave it 5 stars and couldn’t recommend an app more strongly!

COULDN’T HAVE BEEN BETTER. Don’t think to much about it and just buy the app! It was ABSOLUTELY worth every penny. My wife and I did all 3 self guided tours during our stay. We are big fans of doing local stuff, and this app nails it. We didn’t get lost or turned around a single time, the directions were on point. The attractions were AMAZING and the food recommendations were SO ONO BRUH! Everywhere we went the locals would ask us how we got there or give us recommendations to somewhere that we had already been thanks to this application. My wife and I were actually sad when we completed our last tour because it was so much fun, and we grew to love Shaka Guide. We’re looking forward to buying the app for the other islands in the future.

Shaka Won't steer you wrong!!. After successfully completing the Road to Hana tour on Maui, mostly thanks to the great guidance of the Shaka guide app, my husband and I decided to once again rely on the Shaka app when renting a car on Oahu. We followed the Island circle tour and we were again not disappointed. , Loved the clear directions, point of interest notifications, interesting stories, and tips about food and public facilities. We stopped at the food trucks for lunch as recommended and had the best shrimp dish ever!!! Too bad we were flying home the following day 'cause I would have loved to have driven the South Shore Tour too! Maybe next time. Anyway, this app is a must have if you are planning on exploring Oahu on your own and the best 5 bucks spent! (besides maybe the Dole's Twist with topping at the Dole pineapple plantation)

Worth it!. Did the Grand Circle Island and East Oahu Shore tours and I highly recommend if you’re renting a car. Informative and extremely economical for a family of four. We really wanted to explore the island but the cost of tours add up for each of us. We bought the entire package for $30 bucks and it’s well worth it. It includes turn by turn directions, restroom, food and of course tons of beach suggestions. The app is pretty foolproof but my only recommendation would be for it to notify and redirect you when/if you make a wrong turn. Otherwise it’s great if your want to see the island on a budget.

Everyone in family enjoyed it.. I thought it would be corny, but not at all. Very interesting hearing the background and history, as well as telling us where to find the best parking. My 2 young adults, who were not excited about going, really liked it and asked to do the rainforest self driving tour also. However, we missed part of that tour due to a closed road which caused us to go back the same way we came before reaching Punchbowl. We used google to get to Chinatown, but missed hearing those stories and where to go in Chinatown. But even with that, We loved the lookout and the North Shore day trip was one of our family’s favorite things that we did.

Second Shaka Guide Island. We discovered Shaka Guide on a Pre Covid visit to the Big Island in early 2020 and had a great time. We even took the north loop tour twice. In early 2022 during Covid we toured Oahu with Shaka Guide and had another great time. There were Covid closures and reduced hours which we expected. A reminder is bring lots of cash to make purchases easier on the north shore. Our un expected happinesses were the Buddhist Temple, The Kualoa Ranch Tours, Fumis and Romys shrimp stands. There were to many great beaches, crazy. Another highlight was whale watching. I called Customer Service when on Oahu to get some quick clockwise VS counter clockwise tour advice which were answered quickly. We are hoping our next Island will be Maui. If that happens we will be sure to get some Pre trip rental vehicle advice. Next time we go to the big island we might get a 4x4…

Best tour EVER!. Heard about this from a friend, sounded interesting so I got the app for free, then checked out the preview of the tours. So far have only used the East Shore tour but it’s nothing short of excellent! The tour guide has a great voice, gives great and timely directions (and occasional congratulations on your progress, a fun touch), and best of all knows all the best places and recommendations for stopping. I can’t recommend this enough if you have a car - much better and way more comfortable than all those tour company buses. You are in control, you decide when to leave, where to stop or skip, and how long to stay at each point. Looking forward to trying out some of the other Oahu tours and already downloaded the Maui app for when we’re there next week. I will also be telling everyone I know who comes out to Hawaii that they NEED this app. Thanks for an awesome tour experience, brah! 😀 🤙

You won’t miss a thing!!. I just have to rave about the audio driving tour we took today with #shakaguide! We were able to experience the East Oahu shoreline through incredible detailed GPS and audio directions, great food recommendations, and humorous interesting history stories of the area -all while we drove! The ap took us to the most beautiful places we would NEVER have found on our own! And we didn’t have to research and plan for a year! We just downloaded the ap and away we went... to an incredible day on the island of Oahu! We would highly recommend experiencing Oahu with the Shaka Guide! Even though we know nothing about it... we can’t wait to “confidently” head off to the North Shore next!! We know we won’t miss a thing- thanks to Shaka!! #ShareTheShaka

“Uncle Shaka” was an Amazing guide!!. I don’t usually leave reviews (or buy apps) but this one is amazing. Our first time to Oahu and we purchased both. Perfect guidance and loved the little tidbits of info, suggestions and humor as we passed areas. (No constant talking though). We were so impressed by the easy to follow directions and I lost track how many times we said we loved the app and what a great purchase it was. We would never have been able to plan out the routes as well on our own. We usually take hop on/off buses in new cities and this was similar with the narration and ability to see all the hot spots (and some secret ones!) in a nice loop without a bunch of backtracking. We did the tours in 3 VERY full days but had we stopped and actually swam at the beaches and did the full tours at Dole etc. it easily could have been a week or more worth of activities. We would have spent $500+ on a couple days of tour buses to see the places we were able to go to on our own with this app plus we could do it in our own time. The app literally guided us from the road in front of our hotel to the destinations and back. Buy it- you won’t regret it.

Great tour! Skip the tour bus, rent a car for the day, and get this app!. We had decided to tour the island of Oahu, and were looking at various tour companies. The prices were at least $89 and upward of $120+ per person. Instead we rented a car for the day in Waikiki, set out on our own and followed the Oahu Circle Tour. It was more than we hoped for. The guide was informative and fun. We saw things I’d never seen before on island. And we loved the historical information. The music was wonderful. We sang a lot of the songs, people in our car were 18-75 years old, and we all loved it. In fact we were sad when it was over. We all feel like we made a friend with the narrator. Of note, we avoided the Polynesian Cultural Center (not my cup of tea), and it was still a full day, from 8am-6pm. We did a detour at KoHana Rum Distillery for a tasting and that should be included, because it was amazing. The distillery talks about history of the area, the importance of sugar cane to the Hawaii, and the types of rum. Plus they gave us samples of chocolate, sugar cane juice, honey, and of course rum. Just a recommendation.

Best tour guide in Oahu. We LOVED this app. Five of us visiting the island for the first time and we had several options for planning our visit, including paying $85 per person for a bus tour of Oahu. Found this app while browsing online and it is the best thing we have dine the whole trip! We loved the information and stories, music, jokes and help with the local language. The directions for the tour are perfectly timed and easy to follow without getting lost. Good inside information on beaches, parking, restaurants and clean restrooms. We did both the north and south circle tours and saw so much more than we could have ever found on our own and for a fraction of the cost of a bus tour. I highly recommend this app to anyone who wants to see all the highlights including the things you don’t learn about on travel websites! Thank you Shaka guide!

Love this Shaka App. I recently took a trip to Oahu and used the Shaka self-guided tour app for my sightseeing adventures, and I have to say, it was the best app ever! The app was incredibly user-friendly and easy to navigate, making it a breeze to plan my itinerary and explore all the island had to offer. The app provided detailed information about each site, including historical background and interesting facts, which made the experience even more enriching. Fabulous App. I picked this app because it was made by people who live in Hawaii. It was great right from the start. This was my third trip to Oahu. This time we brought our two teen boys. I was afraid they would tire of the app with the corny jokes but they loved. I saw so much of the island I had completely missed on my past trips. The boys enjoyed it so much they wanted to do another tour the next day. The tips about food stops, snorkel spots and great views was priceless. And the luxury of being in your own car and not tied to a big group schedule was perfect. We even used the all to go back to some spots for more time on other days. I immediately recommended the app to a friend traveling the following week. Don’t miss out like I did on my first two visits, get this app and see so much more!

Worth Every Penny and a Million More!. My sister and I decided to rent a car for our time in Waikiki so we would not be tethered to large group tours. When I found the Shaka guide, I was excited to use it but wasn’t 100% sure how it would work and how well it would work. From the second, I started my first tour I was blown away by how in depth the directions were, how entertaining and educational the stories were, and how delightful the presenter was. I would recommend this and will recommend this to everybody that I know that is heading to Hawaii and the other national parks. Fantastic tour guide. Easy to navigate, stop and start at your leisure. Pick and choose what you want to stop and and see. Learn interesting facts and historical stories along the way. Great Hawaiian music too. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic guide!. The guide is great if you plan to drive around Hawaii, we used the circle tour which was well paced and pointed out interesting facts on places that we drive passed. The only improvement I can think of is that more notice should be given when turning off to visit a site. Sometimes we’d miss a point of interest due to this.

GREAT APP!. Downloaded the free app, paid the few dollars for each tour, plugged the phone into the rental car and away we went. It's that simple! Use the gps mapping and some common sense to get yourself to the starting point of each tour. Fun and lively commentary along the way makes for more than just a gps directed tour. We got side tracked a few times but just followed the mapping back to the tour route and were back on course again. A great way to see some of the more scenic and out of the way places on Oahu. For just a few dollar, well worth it.

Fantastic App. Highly recommended.. We were tossing up doing an organised tour and decided to rent a car and use the Shaka Oahu tour app instead so that we could stop where and when we wanted. We did the Circle Island tour. It was a great decision. The app worked brilliantly and pointed out so many places/highlights/tips for parking. The driving instructions were really good and the narration was really insightful, enjoyable and at times funny which our kids loved. Im sure we learnt more and saw more than we would have on a tour. AWESOME!!!!!. My wife and I hired a Camao for the day and then thought "where are we going to go???" Did a quick google search and up popped the Shaka Oahu app. Quick download and then a few bucks paid for the tours and away we went. If you want to see the whole island by road then this is the app for you. This is by far the best thing we have done on our holiday. Since we are from Aussie and drive on the other side of the road this app takes a lot of the thinking out of the drive and let's you concentrate on driving and enjoying the day. If you want an awesome drive day in Hawaii then don't even think and just download this app now!!!! Again, BEST APP EVER!!!!

Must do in Hawaii!!. Downloaded the circle island tour of Oahu and it kept us entertained all day, we stopped at interesting places we would have otherwise missed, learnt about Hawaiian history and culture and where the clean restrooms are! Circle island tours EPIC. Paid for the full tour and was epic. Great instructions, great information. I’ve been to Oahu allot of times and have done island tours (self drive) but this time was sooooo much better. Only upgrades I could recommend but are very small: 1) A bit more notification on the turn coming up. 2) strongly suggest to leave Hawaiian music mix playing between points of interest.... Other than that GET THIS APP. We loved it.

Cheeee Hooo!!!! What a day!. We had spent a week on Maui and then 5 days on Oahu before finding this self guided tour application. We used it for the circle tour of Oahu and it was amazing!! We now wish we had downloaded the Maui guide a week earlier. It does give us a great reason to come back in the future though. Great work with the turn by turn directions and plenty of time and guidance for lane changes when required, especially for an international tourist like myself from Australia.

Rating. We heard about the Shaka app on a FB group so while here and hiring a car for two days, we decided to do the South shore tour first. We paid for the tour on the app and found it to be fantastic, very informative and well worth the money. On the second day of our car hire we did the Circle Island tour. Before we left on our journey we downloaded the tour on the app but decided to do our trip clockwise as we’d gone up to the ranch on the first day and thought we would get more time to do other stuff going that way. We were disappointed the commentary won’t work unless you do the trip anti-clockwise. We were aware that was mentioned on the app but didn’t know it wouldn’t work going clockwise considering it works with GPS. For that reason I gave 4 stars.

Brilliant!. Why spend the big bucks stuffed in a packed tour bus running on a tight schedule when you can use Shaka and explore at your own pace?! It’s awesome, highly recommend!

Family Shaka Circle Tour. Today we did the Shaka Oahu Island Circle Tour. We are a family of 5 and drove ourselves. We have done private tours before and our Shaka tour today was good if not better. We saw things today that we hadn’t before. It was easy to follow with great commentary. Highly recommend this app. Will definitely use it again and will recommend to friends.

Recommend with tweaks. All in all a very very good app most times plenty of warning of exists but sometimes not :-( sometimes I needed to shut down and reboot after stops but still recommend- local news and views were great - jokes a little corny - would I use again? Absolutely

Awesome app. This is a fantastic app, much better than using an gps and it works without an internet connection. It gives u great info on were to stop for views and food, great instructions on where to turn and what lane to be in. It even provides history info throughout the whole drive. Best money we spent on our drive around the island. Only negative was that I had to redownload it the following day(not repurchase tho) and not knowing this I had to turn on my data for a few min. Don't waste ur money on hiring a gps use this app.

Not free at all. Said was 'Free' so downloaded, then went to use while out and had to purchase maps. Should have just paid and downloaded Gypsy while I had the wifi rather than being caught out on the road.

Awesome app!!!. This app is a gem!! We found this through TripAdvisor and it was awesome. We can certainly drive around the Islands of Hawaii ourselves but this app surely made my drive more enjoyable. The guide was very entertaining and we learned great stories and tips along the way. Because it’s using GPS location and mapping, making it Apple Car Play compatible will be a great benefit.

Best tour guide ever!. Awesome concept, great experience. Loved listening to the Shaka Guide for our trip to the North Shore. So many great little stops on the way, and lots of info in a light and happy way to listen to. The musical interludes between the narration was fun and kept the trip enjoyable. Best money spent in Hawaii. Have never written a review in the App Store however this app truly deserves 5 stars and more. Using the app was like having a personal tour guide in your car. Trustworthy. Amazing app with really cool and helpful resources. If you’re worried about how it will guide during your drive, don’t worry about it, you won’t lose not even a single curve nor an amazing place to visit!! Btw buy the whole pack of tours, better than (like me) download the tours one by one, it’s cheaper!

Waste of money. Unsure if it’s the car we travelled with, but the audio was next to none, everytime somewhere appeared on the map there was minimal info, we missed destinations (shark bay/Kailua) due to the lack of audio through apple carplay. We started from halfway and unsure how this app goes from the beginning. However it was difficult to modify the start point settings and personally felt like it was a waste of $15, we used google maps the whole time and it worked better with apple carplay.

Impressed. Purchased the South Oahu tour yesterday. I was quite impressed with the maps, directions, stops, music and additional information. Directions were easy to follow and we stopped at places that the tour buses didn’t go to. Plugged my phone into the car via USB. For what you get, this is a great price. Going to purchase the other Oahu tour.

Love this app. We did the Circle island tour today and found the commentary to be excellent - and yes we did laugh a few times at the jokes! Super impressed by the navigation and ample warning to change lanes etc - we would never have stopped off at some of the places so had some lovely and some unexpected surprises. Being a coffee snob we were super happy to stumble across some good coffee on our travels 😉☀️

Amazing adventures!. We just completed our second Shaka tour in Hawaii (Honolulu and the North Shore and Maui the Road to Hana) and we were beyond thrilled! The places we were taken to were amazing and the stories along the way were interesting! The directions were easy to follow and the maps were helpful (as was the list of things to do). We especially liked how you could do or not do whatever you wanted, and Shaka would jump right back in place wherever we were. We would use Shaka app again!

Best Hawaii self tour available!. Worth every penny!

Was worth it for us. While it’s my first time using this type of app, aside from the Maui version, I am really glad I bought circle island tour. Diverted to a few picture spots I wouldn’t have otherwise seen. The background info was interesting and the music wasn’t bad. My only complaint was we missed a couple of spots as we didn’t figure out where to turn off in time, but I might have been driving too quickly as well.

Great Tours. We took two Shaka Guide tours: the Grand Circle Island Tour and the East Oahu Shoreline while in Oahu Dec 28 and 29. We have been to Oahu before and taken the bus-tours in the past. This self-driven tour is far superior because you get to complete these tours at your own pace. The information shared was very informative and entertaining. The narrator’s voice and chuckling had us cracking up. These tours are VERY MUCH a worth the investment and a tremendous savings in comparison to the bus tours. We had a car for two days. The first day we did the grand circle island tour and decided to use the second day to do the east shoreline tour. When purchasing the second of these tours, my family were talking about how they hoped the second tour was narrated by the same guy! And happily, it was! We will be going to either the big island or Maui in the future. We will certainly be looking for another Shaka Guide tour or two when we get there!

Tours take WAAAAY longer than they say. The app itself is indeed amazing. However, each tour takes a significantly longer amount of time than specified/recommended. If you are to even only stop at most stops, and not all stops, there is no chance you’ll finish either tour in a day (even though the south tour says it can be done in a half day). I have been here Feb 12-21 and the traffic has been quite poor. Many lookouts were full of cars as well. Anyways the fun facts and narration have been great, I just wished they were aware of how much longer their tours take.

Shaka Rocks. For the price we paid, we felt there was great value. We learned a lot of history and found some places we would not have known about without the tour. Sometimes, the narrative was a bit hokey, but it was fine. The one small problem was that we took the tour after business hours, and a couple of pints of interest were closed. We would definitely recommend the app!

Directions on point!. My boyfriend and I just completed the South Island tour today and we were very impressed. The GPS was on point and we were entertained along the way with fun history facts. We also purchased the North Island tour and will take that one in 4 days... money well spent! Props to the creators of this app wish it existed in other countries.

Great Tour Guide - highly recommend!. We were so glad that we chose the Shaka Guide for our trip in Oahu. It was easy to use and the very informative. We also love the stories and fun facts they have. For future the app design improvements: it will be nice to have the option to add user’s own stops along the route, so they don’t need to open another map back and forth to pin a point for customized stops. Also, it makes more sense to prompt the tutorial once when user first downloaded and skip that going forward. Overall l, it’s very user friendly.

DO IT! You won’t regret it.. This App is the best way to see the places and things you would never ever know or think about. We have 3 children (22, 20, 18), it was their favourite thing to do. (As well as Me and my wife). Take it at your own pace and $20ish is the best money we’ve spent on a vacation. We’ve been here 3 times now and it’s been the best experience yet, due to this tour. We did the ‘Circle Island tour and the east one’. Highly recommend!!! (If you have a rental car) Instead of paying 25-50 dollars per person for a bus tour, it’s a way better way of seeing the island at your own pace and doing what you want when you want for as long as you want. It’s just great!! Can’t say enough good things about it. And, PS..if you are hungry, stop at Teddy’s burger joint. (Best burgers ever!!. 👍😊)

Totally worth the money!. My husband and I did an O’ahu island bus tour last year and even though we enjoyed it, we did not want to do another bus tour this time around as we were with our family (6 of us) and did not want to spend $120+ each. We decided to just rent a car and do our own tour. We were going to just wing it but then I googled O’ahu apps and Shaka came up. I read all the good reviews and decided to try it out. At first it took us a while to get the audio linked to our car but once we got it working, it was amazing. Totally worth the money!! Altogether our island tour including the rental, gas and this app cost us less than $35/person. The Shaka guide was right on point and we liked how he talked about everything as we were passing by them as we would have missed a lot of those things had we winged the trip ourselves. And I don’t recall the bus tour guide last year mentioning many of these things. We also liked how the Shaka guide talked a lot about the history and the language, as well as the Hawaiian music. Both my 72-year old mom and aunt were really entertained. We also like how we could choose where to stop and go about on our own time frame. Anyways I definitely recommend this app to anyone going to O’ahu who’s renting a car and wants to save money for something else rather than on a bus tour.

Awesome and entertaining. We downloaded this last week and took it out for a drive leaving from our resort on Ko’Olina. The gps talking points and directions were bang on. The guide was both educational and entertaining. Next trip anywhere in Hawaii we will download the other aps!

Wish I had used it sooner!. Recommended to me by a friend but wasn’t too sure how helpful it would be, so waited until almost the end of my trip to use. BUT once I used it, I quickly realized how awesome this app is! The tours were so amazing at helping us navigate the island, see cool stuff we definitely wouldn’t have known about and we learned a lot along the way! Wish I had something like this to help navigate my own city and find little known spots. And the tour guide was the icing on the cake of the whole thing - so entertaining! Would use again if I come back to Hawaii!

Amazing App for raidies. This gps voice guidance guide is amazing, it’s so detailed, very informative for people like me that don’t like to read travel guides. The choice of music, the voice guidance is all great, I wish I can find something similar for every country I’ll be visiting. To add on the experience, I recommend a convertible car and play the voice guidance through your car multimedia system. Great job!

Awesome self guided tour. We ordered both tours for Oahu and it turned out to be the best money I spent while on vacation! Driving directions were extremely easy to follow with lane change warning in advance where needed. The information provided was interesting and informative. We found areas of the island that I never would have found without the app. I wish I could rate it higher that a 5! Highly, highly recommend it. Will definitely be buying and downloaded the tours for the other island on our next trip!

This app made our vacation!. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! I was really excited when I came across this app a few weeks before our trip. It almost seemed too good to be true since it sounded exactly like what I imagined I wanted. We wanted the curated elements of a tour but flexibility of self guided. It blends both perfectly! We started on the big island and the soon realized how informative and useful Shaka was. We hopped between mist of the tours as we prioritized the sights we wanted to see. As soon as we got to Oahu I downloaded that version too. The routes are well thought out with a good mixture of history, local info, major tourist sites and off the beaten path gems. We learned and saw so much we wouldn’t have otherwise. Decent controls to choose limited starting points and occasionally direction. The only downside is that not all tours have a clockwise and counter-clockwise option. It would also be nice to start the tour at any point on the map. The price seems a little steep as far as apps go but for the quality of what you get it’s absolutely worth it. A great value when you compare a fully guided tour. Will definitely use again and urge anyone I know who is visiting Hawaii to download. 5 star! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well worth it. Don’t hesitate to use this guide. You won’t regret it. My only suggestion would be spread the trip over two days. We chose to stay in Laie, which is approximately halfway, and features the Polynesian cultural center.

Circle Island Tour. As a single traveler I loved this guided tour. Felt like someone sitting beside me as I drove the route. Excellent tips on how to use the app. A wealth of information well presented. Wish I had downloaded the other tours.

We had an amazing time!. My husband and I did the South shore tour with my six-year-old son. We had a fantastic time. The app is easy to use, and my son laughed so hard at the narrator jokes. We wish we made the purchase sooner when we were at other islands. Definitely will spread the words to let more people know about this fabulous app.

Amazing Experience. We did the East Coast tour last week and enjoyed it so much that we asked others to join us for a repeat tour this week. The directions are very easy to follow and we would never have found many of the spots on our own. I would recommend the Shaka Guide to anyone who wants to really experience Oahu. Awesome Tour!!. We used the north shore tour to see as much as we could on our second day of vacation and boy did we see ALOT!! The guide was fantastic and we didn’t feel rushed and all the stops were timed really well. Highly recommend this tour if you’ve never been to the North Shore!!

Wonderful way to see the island. We did both the south shore and circle island tours. By the end of our vacation we got to feel like locals as we knew about locations that most tourists did not know about. We especially enjoyed the beach and food recommendations. The stories about local culture were helpful and entertaining. The driving directions were excellent, I never felt lost. It really felt like we had a local friend as a guide in our car. Complete with corny jokes. 😉 The addition of Hawaiian music between stories really added to the atmosphere of the tour. Highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to explore the island their own way.

Very impressive. The app is very helpful. It takes you places and a story with it that no group tour can do. No overhearing and you can stop and continue as you like. The only set back, you should start where it wants you to start otherwise the stories don’t fall in too each other.

Amazing. I just got back from my 2 week honeymoon and used the Shaka app multiple times throughout our tip and it was awesome! I loved being able to do things at our own pace and spend how much time we wanted at each stop. I loved learning about the island and the names of the formations off shore. The music that played in between stops was great. Every time we got in the car and forgot to continue the tour my Husband would ask where the music was. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved it!. Truly, having Shaka guide made our entire trip! We used it to explore and know what options there were for things to do. We had friends vacationing just a week before us and they didn’t use the app but more traditional means of digging around to figure out what was worth seeing or doing… they ended up doing almost all the same stuff but without any of the interesting and fun commentary or additional gems for where to stop for the best views and such. We are excited for our next trip to use Shaka guide for our tour again!

Best Tour of the Island.. This was the best suggestion and we were so mad we waiting till the last 2 days to use the app. Wish we had given it more time to enjoy alllll the suggestions. Bring cash because a lot of the little off the normal tour suggestions don’t all take credit card. Great for all ages just bring snacks in car for littles. Phone charger is a must have ! Also download full app so when you lose signal (and you will at some beautiful off the path places) you can pick up where you left off! Can’t wait to use it on the other islands

Great tour companion. Initially confusing. Because we had to start the map and the hit the recenter arrow in order for the app to start talking from the location we were currently at. After that the tips and navigation were spot on. It’s best to have one person following the map/ app and the driver listens to the talking. It got us to all the locations we wanted to go and got us back home. Loved the fact that we could take in the sites at our own pace. The music and stories were nice accompaniments. It would be nice if it worked with our phone GPS since if we took the wrong route the app stopped talking as it will only work in a counter clockwise direction.

Great way to see Oahu!. We did the Circle Island driving tour and the East Oahu shoreline driving tour as well as the Downtown Honolulu and Heart of Waikiki walking tours. All were excellent! Totally worth the small amount of money spent. We saw more than we could've ever seen on our own. We rode Biki bikes between the two walking tours and then back to the hotel after we finished. However, we did find the hike up Diamondhead strenuous and not easy, as the app narrator indicates. Even the Diamondhead welcome center says that it's strenuous. So this is one small thing that you might consider changing.

Well worth the purchase!. Some of it needs to be updated since closures due to covid, but this tour was absolutely amazing! You can go at your own pace and his directions were excellent. Besides the driving directions, there were all sorts of little things that we never would have seen without his advice from interesting rock formations to little bakeries. There were also some interesting history lessons sprinkled in as well! The time and stress we saved in not planning out every move was immensely helpful.

One of the best gps self navigation guide !!. Reluctantly bought this app but I am so glad I got it. Extremely useful self guide navigation app. Very informative of the route and turn by turn guidance was precise. Some of the places that it suggested would have not been possible to go without the app guidance. One feedback is that it would be a great idea to incorporate the user time of travel into account, so that the guide can give appropriate guidance, if the user visits certain place during its time of closure . But that is a minor hiccup. Overall had a splendid experience using Shaka guide !!

Amazing, self paced tour. This tour is perfect for a chill and educational day in Hawaii. You can pick and choose when and where you want to stop and how long you want to stay in certain places. My husband and I are expecting and I’m about 7 months pregnant so it was really really nice to be able to go at our on pace and not have to worry about keeping up with anyone else. We also really enjoyed the voice of the “tour guide” he was funny and very clearly spoken. The directions that he gave were very easy to follow. We had an amazing day because of this tour and we both learned a lot. ❤️

Fun and easy. It was one of the highlights of our trip. I’m so glad I saw others mention this tour . It was nice to get out of the crowds and it just be the two of us and to be able to set the pace of how long we wanted to stay was just ideal. There were some areas that were very crowded so we just moved along on our journey and didn’t wait to wait on a big tour. After completing the grand island circle I went to look for other tours we could do on the app. Can’t say enough I will definitely do this again!

Great app and tour but annoying narrator. I purchased and used both oahu tours and the classic road to hana tour. Excellent information. App works great! But i didnt like the white narrator trying to speak hawaiian pidgin. He was annoying. Get a real local, bra, if you want the local accent. In the oahu tours, the jokes were lame and we groaned and almost shut it down. In the road to hana tour, the information and the music were great and we enjoyed the information. On one day, we did homoa beach after Oheo and the narration didn’t start in that direction. With this road to hana tour, you don’t need the maui revisited book, which is our reference guide. Other wise, this app and tour is highly recommended

Perfect tour app. This was perfect for a self guide tour. You would pay more money for one of those tour bus tours and you would be stuck on their schedule with a bunch of other people. You can pause this tour when you want to spend more time at a stop. If you don’t want to stop somewhere keep driving and the tour will continue. The directions are good as well and they give plenty of warnings for upcoming turns. The story and music are fun as well. You own the tour so you can go back and find the information on any stops you may want to revisit.

Wow!!! Amazing App- Tour Guide. The Concierge at our Hotel suggested the App so we decided to rent a Convertible Jeep and drive around the North Shore where the Waikiki Trolley has not taken us. All I can say is WOW!!! What an Amazing App. It literally felt like we had our own personal tour guide in the car. Not only did my kids think the guide was “Funny” but super informative, pre-warned us of what the next stop would be, where to turn to park, where the best restaurants and Bathroom stops would be, just Wonderful! We left with some breakfast in our stomachs at about 9 am, and we’re headed back to Waikiki by 6:30pm. Love this App, would love to have it in Other locations around the World!

Saved us a ton of money! Totally awesome!. This app was amazing! It was very easy to use and it was extremely informative. We connected our phone directly to the USB port in the rental car and it was literally our own tour guide broadcasting through the speakers! We spent the entire day (9hrs) and still couldn’t see everything! It’s such a great value! I loved that we could go at our own pace and didn’t have to worry about being on a group tour during Covid. Plus it saved us a few hundred dollars from the traditional tour. We HIGHLY recommend!

Autism/ADHD friendly!. Shaka guide is great for our neurodivergent family. The Shaka tour was enjoyable for us and really engaging for our child. The freedom to stop when we need sensory breaks and skip places we didn’t have the energy for (knowing we could go back and start from there another day) is beyond priceless for us. No worries about wasting money on a tour that ends in tears, we can totally customize the pace of our day! I wish every location we traveled to had this option. We’d be a lot more likely to go on vacations. Uncle Shaka, can we travel the world with you?

So much better than a tour bus. If you have a rental car, save some money and just use the app. You learn so much about the history of the island while you travel at your own pace. The narration was very informative. I thought I knew everything as we’ve traveled to the islands multiple times. We took the tour and added stops like Pearl Harbor and Turtle Bay resort. The app just picks back up were you left off. It’s so good and well worth the savings you get. Not just the monetary savings either. You aren’t waiting at a rest stop while the entire tour bus lags behind.

The BEST way to see Oahu!. We competed the South Shore Tour of Oahu today. The App is so easy to use, it's easy to follow, informative and just a great way to see parts of the Island you would otherwise never know existed. My only regret is that we didn't do the tour earlier in our vacation because if we had, we would have had time to revisit and spend more time at some of our favorite spots. The Tour took us about 5 hours and we definitely could have started earlier in the day and taken the whole day to make the trip. We are looking forward to taking the Circle Island Tour tomorrow! Absolutely Awesome!!!

Awesome!!. We bought this app on a whim after a short google search told us about it... and what an amazing thing to have stumbled upon!! We did both the circle tour and the south shore tour and LOVED both of them!! The app was so spot on with directions and recommendations! The stories and music that accompanied really helped us learn about the Hawaiian culture and folklore without having had much time to research our trip! We are so happy with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone!!! Saved us a lot of time, money and maximized our time here in Oahu!! Looking forward to the Maui tour next!!!

Wonderful complement to our trip!. I never buy apps and I’ve never left a review but WOW. I was a little skeptical because we’ve done some cheesy audio tours in the past but this was incredible. We downloaded it for our North Shore trip but liked it so much that we ended up doing the East Honolulu and the downtown Honolulu walking tours. I’m usually the navigator on trips and this allowed me to actually have my head up (versus down at my phone the whole time) so I could enjoy it along with the whole family. Highly recommend.

AWESOME!!!. In all my years owning an iPhone and buying apps, I’ve never left feedback, but I just had to for you guys. This app is incredible! I’ve toured a lot with groups, and had many great tours, and this had every bit as good information for those other tours with high $$ guides, but on the cheap! As if that wasn’t good enough, being in my own car with my wife, we could stop and go as desired. Your presentation was stellar! Thank you so much for creating this incredible piece of app-ware! Best part of our vacation!. My husband and I completed the Circle Island Tour in Oahu yesterday. This app is incredible! It tells you awesome stories along the way, plays great music and tells you what lane you need to be in and also tells you what exits you will take with plenty of time to do so. We never once felt overwhelmed or rushed on the tour. We stopped at Giovanni’s and Matsumoto’s in the North Shore and loved both! We did a cruise to get here and are now bummed that we didn’t get to rent a car and use the Kauai, Maui and Big Island apps. But now we have something to look forward to for our next trip!

Must have for visitors and residents!!!. This was an amazing experience and I live here! The wife got it so we could show family around and Uncle did an amazing job with the narration (you need a high five from the Hawaiian historical society for the fun facts and stories!!!), quality tips for driving, parking and bathrooms! My wife was born and raised on Oahu and some of the sites she didn’t know about either, so it was real awesome to experience new places as a family. We did the North Shore loop this past Sunday. Ditch the tour guide!. My wife and I have always been fans of self-guided experiences when visiting new places. We've used Rick Steeves' guides all around Europe, which are great, for example. The Shaka Guide adds an awesome element of a GPS-powered guide for driving tours. It automatically engages when you get to a certain point and just tells you where to go to see something worth seeing. Yet, you move at your own pace. Super awesome to discover new spots and hidden gems around Oahu (and other islands I guess). Easy to use, and pretty inexpensive. I just wish there were more and better local food recommendations ;)))

SO HAPPY! I couldn’t get enough!. I’m not gonna lie I started to cry the first 30 min of my drive. The narrator was epic in so many ways. He was on point with the humor and amazing with the history. It was all the stuff i wanted to know and none of the stuff i didn’t need to know. The food suggestions rocked. And the gps instructions worked so well! I was nervous it wouldn’t work well but man they did good! I even loved the music in between! Wish there was more! But it was so good!!!! Such a good app for the solo traveler that rents a car no saved so much money doing this rather than going on a tour :)

Awesome!! Awesome!! Awesome!!. I have to say this was the BEST app ever. I had planned a day with the family to do a bus a tour. My wife and I looked at each other and were like “do we really want to spend 9 hours on a bus.” We cancelled the tour, rented a Jeep and the way we went. This app had EVERYTHING laid out. We were able to go at our own place and custom the tour the way we wanted. By the end of the day this was a cheaper and WAY more enjoyable way to explore the island. Easy way to sight see!. We stumbled across this ap in Kauai several years ago. We took all four trips. Really enjoyed it. So of course we purchased this one for Oahu. First we did the north shore tour. Loved it. Then realized the grand circle covered really all the same places. Should have done that one first. We did the rainforest tour today. There were some places on the tour locked to guests like the Chinese cemetery. The east shore tour we encountered a few locked gates as well. We would like to hear more about native plants and animals on the tours and since my husband is in a wheelchair it would be nice to know what places are accessible. Befor we get out and try it. There were a few places we simply couldn’t go see. That’s ok just nice to know beforehand. All in all we like the ap. We like the commentary and the voice. It’s a very easy way to venture out on your own.

Never write reviews - Saved my trip. Hi there, this is the first review I ever leave on an app, but I Had to. Uncle Shaka saveddddd my trip… I had an upcoming trip to Oahu and wanted to get to know the island without paying so much money (usually the guided tours are like +$150 per person. This program was a very very convenient price and we used it for like 3 days because we loved it so much ! It took us everywhere, and I don’t mean just the mainstream places, it also took us to places worthy of us knowing that didn’t appear in any search or Hawaii blog or anything. You just press play and follow the guide, it was amazing!!! You even had music during the tour, and you get soooo much info about the culture and everything that it is amazing :D 1000% recommend if you’re going to Oahu ! I noticed they have the same app for the other islands, and I assume is the same amazing program, so def get it if you rented a car and want to get to know the island.

Professional, user friendly, educational and fun. My wife and I are here on 26 anniversary. She was scrolling reviews for tour when she found Shaka (Actually another review of another guide recommended Shaka over the other guide . Our Oahu East shore trip was phenomenal We were even able to standby snorkel on Hanauma Bay. We hit all the highlites and did some side trips. The key for us is the absolute user friendly features-hooks up with Google MPs/ Apple Play seamlessly. Will be using for other Hawaii (hopefully other states in future! If it expands)

Tour Oahu with this app!. Best app for touring Oahu! I purchased both the East Oahu Shoreline and the Circle Island tour, and it was incredible! Loved driving along with the tour, stopping and little known and locals spots, seeing things I wouldn’t have gotten from a tour guide, and learning the islands history, along with some great music in between! You have your own personal tour guide who let’s you know where to stop, eat, and even where restrooms are! I’ve also done the Road to Hana with Shaka Guide Maui, and super impressed with that as well! Driving instructions and prompts are super easy to follow! Rent your own car and have your own personal tour guide! You won’t be disappointed!

The Best. We’ve used Shaka for Oahu and Maui and recommend them to all our visiting friends. So easy to use, has something for everyone, and also educational. I’m not sure if you explore deeper into more features in the ap, if it more easily lays out when things are open and closed and if things need reservations made earlier, but that would have helped us out. We missed a few stops on our tour because we weren’t aware things were closing or we needed to make a reservation a few days early.

10 stars!!!. I would give this app 10 stars if I could! It provides an absolutely PERFECT way for me see Oahu; the app provided a lot of guidance, but its setup also allowed for a lot of freedom. I could use as much or as little guidance as I wanted depending on my interest level of each point of attraction. Thank you very much, Shaka, for allowing me to see so much of Oahu for such great value! I feel like I saw and learned just as much if not more than my friends who went on expensive guided tours. All of our guests love it!!. We recently moved to Oahu and have loved using the Shaka ap ourselves to learn about the island. We also love playing it for all of our guests that we show around. Everyone that we have played it for has said great things about the ap due to its rich information about the history, recommended places to stop, the interactive conversations we have with the man who we have nicknamed “Shaka Joe”, and the music that accompanied the stories. We also used it when we went to the Big Island with some friends as well and it was fantastic there too!

Legendary North Shore Tour. My fiancé and I did the Legendary North Shore tour (clockwise) which was amazing! We left Waikiki (maybe a little too early) at 7:30AM and though we didn’t stop at every place, we didn’t come back to our hotel until 4:30PM! Some attractions were too busy to easily park at, some are closed currently due to COVID (or maybe because it’s Sunday?), but we had great times especially at the Green World Coffee Farm, Sunset Beach, the Kahuku Shrimp Trucks and Byodo-In Temple. Just a warning that this particular tour calls for a lot of unprotected left turns, but I would assume that the counter-clockwise tour would have less of that issue. If you’re comfortable with driving though, it’s nothing that puts a damper on the tour. A huge thank you to the narrator, who we called Shaka Dude. He made the trip extra special. I enjoyed the sense of humor but also the way he told some of the serious stories about Hawaiian history. All in all, a beautiful app for self-guided tours. Thank you for your hard work in making this app!

Great guide! Very immersive. My wife and I visited the islands and downloaded th app for Oahu to check it out and were so incredibly impressed that we decided to download it for each island we visited. We are still telling our friends and family about it a week later. Want a good guide at your own pace with clear directions and beautiful Hawaiian music playing to aid in enjoying the trip between stops? Then you found the perfect companion. Try one and I think you’ll do the same as us. Great job Shaka developers, you nailed it.

Best Tour Guide of All Times. We did not know where to go in Oahu, but everyone kept saying we had to go see the North Shore. We rented a car, downloaded this app, and set off. One thing I really loved was the guide told you where to turn, with plenty of advance notice, so it was safe feeling. We learned plenty of new things on the drive and went to places we would have never found had we not had the app. Whoever designed this app, made our trip go from good to great. It was definitely worth the money. If we ever go to Oahu again or one of the other islands, we will use this again. Nothing bad to say.

Great value!. I bought all of the tours but only used 3 of them, still a fantastic value considering a tour bus Grand Circle Island tour is over $100 per person and you can’t control how much time you spend at each spot. A little disappointed that the Rainforest tour was not usable due to a closed road. Great history and commentary. Great directions. It was magical how the guide knew where we were and would start speaking at the exact right time! Going to Maui in 2023, totally getting the Shaka Maui tours too!

Great app well worth the money. We used the app and drove all around the island. It only took a few minutes to figure it out. We had planned to take a $60 pp bus tour but found this app and decided to self drive instead. Only one problem/annoyance and I think it might be more of an iPhone issue than an app issue. The phone was plugged into the USB port with a lightning cable. I had my wife and her mom with me. The app ALWAYS tried to play my (rock and roll) music in-between narration and I could not shut off my music. We finally had to unplug and use the phones speaker so it wouldn’t keep starting my music after each audio clip.

Best APP EVER !!! Must buy if your going to Hawaii!. Can not say enough good things about this app! My girlfriend and I did the circle island tour and the south shore tour ! Both were absolutely amazing, it literally is like having a tour guide in ur car ! The directions are spot on. This app will help you make the most of your time here in Hawaii. I promise you won’t be disappointed. The only thing i suggest is to download them before your trip !! Or make sure your place has good WiFi. Once there downloaded ur good to go! Can’t wait to go to the other islands and do the other tours !

Sooooo worth it!. I don’t think I’ve reviewed any app before but this one was great. Absolutely glad I downloaded it. We are visiting the island and rented a Turo for the day to drive up the coast to north shore. The app navigation was SPOT ON and our guide did a great job with directions, feedback, helpful hints etc. it was like he was in the car. His stories and suggestions were great! We all agreed we wish we had this guide for everyday life! This was so much better than getting on a bus. My only suggestion is there was too much dead time that could have been filled with more Hawaiian music. Anyway, do it!

Loved it!. Awesome experience.. got to see places that I wouldn’t have otherwise. I truly enjoyed the history behind places. Only suggestion I could think of is may be if you can trace when we go off track and suggest to come back to tour road, that’d be helpful. We took wrongs turns couple of times and didn’t realize. It wasn’t until I saw the map that I realized that we weren’t on the tour road. If shaka app could’ve recognized that, it might’ve saved us some time! I absolutely recommend this app. I will be trying more Maui tours in next few days - looking forward to it!

Best day EVER!. This app is fabulous! We just finished our tour of Oahu using the app as our personal guide and had the best day EVER! We started around 9:30 from Waikiki and just got back to the hotel at 6:00. Missed a few stops along the way because they were closed but the best thing is we can hit those another day. Our “guide” was super engaging and very funny! We learned a lot of history about this beautiful place too. This is a no brainer for people who want to explore at their own pace. The food along the way was great and there are plenty of stops to do your business, if you need to. 😆

Absolutely the best tour!. This was our second “circle the island” tour. The first, a few years back with a tour company in a crowded bus on their rushed schedule. This time, we rented a car, downloaded this app and set off like we were old pros! This app made the tour so much fun! The guidance was spot on, the narration was lively and informative. We enjoyed our day very much, spending about nine hours just doing what we wanted, when we wanted. The only negative, completely out of the developers control, is that the road to the royal birthing stones is now gated with a huge no trespassing sign. We wanted to see this, but missing it in no way distracts from this amazing tour!

We absolutely loved it!!. This is the way to do it! My friends and I rented a vehicle for the majority of the time on the island. Doing a tour of the island this way was so down our line. We could take as much or as little time as we wanted and didn’t have to go with the schedule of a tour bus. Having the local guide tell stories and interesting facts was fun! Another thing that is great is that it never expires, so we could finish a tour the next day since we didn’t get it all done the first day. I’d recommend this to anyone coming to the islands!

This app is perfect! Highly recommend you use this!. I loved this app so much! It made the trip so easy. At first I was worried I would not be able to follow directions but the directions given were so spot on! The “tour guide” is nice and funny and kept everyone interested even children. I hoped off of one tour to another and the transition was so easy. If you plan to purchase, I recommend you listen to the dining suggestions they give too. I highly recommend this app over purchasing over-priced tour busses!

THE BEST. Like many others who’ve reviewed this app, I don’t normally take the time to write reviews but this one is a long time coming. Shaka guide MADE our vacation to O’ahu. I couldn’t imagine not having it. Everything about this tour is phenomenal. In fact, so amazing the first thing we did when we arrived to Maui was pray and hope there was also one for Maui, and behold! There is! I’m excited to continue our journey exploring Hawaii with Shaka Guide. Hands down the best money spent EVER. Does not disappoint. Thank you so much for creating this!!!

Awesome. My family did the Oahu Circle Island Tour and loved it. We were all sad to say goodby to the tour guide at the end of the tour. Highly recommend this app. Easy to use and never had any problems. The narration and the music were both great. Learned all kinds of things about Hawaii from the comfort of our own rental car. Best part...your in charge of what you see and how long you stay at a site. We could have done the tour over the course of two days and stopped more places and took more time, but we did it in one and chose what we wanted to stop at.

So worth it!. Let me start by saying I don’t write app reviews, but this app was so good I felt compelled to let other know. If you want to tour the island yourself, go for it. In my opinion this app is better than any guided tour that you could take on a bus. The information they provide his professional and extremely accurate. It would take someone a lot of time to research all the stuff this app provides. My only other suggestion to anyone wanting to tour the island themselves is to rent a convertible. There are many things on the tour that would be difficult to see if you had a roof

Loved this one too. So after a Kauai trip gone wrong and a desperate google search we found this app. (See Kauai review). So good we bought this one too. While not as good as Kauai it was well worth it. The humor was a little more eye rollingly bad on this one and the spots not nearly so out of the way. Probably could have not got this one but great for first timers. Also note--at least double the time suggested. Even if you barely stop for 5 min pictures not the 2 hr hikes it's still gonna take you 4 hours to do these. We broke the north shore one into 2 days. But I'll definitely get the Maui one on the next trip!

Awesome surprise!. I stumbled across an ad for this app soon after arriving in Oahu and it was the highlight of our trip! We did both tours and can’t say enough about how great it was! I am a serious trip planner, and the app took us to everything I had planned and more. Normally when traveling, my husband drives while I navigate from my travel books, notes, and maps in my lap. But, this was a girls trip where I was the driver, and the app made the best copilot! Thank you Shaka guide! My friends and I will definitely recommend your app and we will use again if we return to the islands! Mahalo!

Shaka guide is superb. At first I thought the app was expensive, however the app proved me wrong, especially for the guy who does minimum planning on how to spend time and which places to visit. I took 3 full day audio tours on different days, and boy o’boy I was so impressed by the Shaka guide app. I loved all the food stops, turn by turn offline navigation, restrooms availability, insights about local famous spots, and more importantly introduction to relevant rich Hawaiian culture at different spots and music. Thank you so much for all the awesome memories. I’m definitely going to use the app for other Hawaiian islands.
