Fusion - HDR Camera App Description & Overview

What is fusion - hdr camera app? "a new HDR app that pushes the envelope for what is possible on the iPhone camera" - Life In Lofi

"Fusion sets the bar on all other HDR apps" - Combo Apps: Mobile Extreme Editing

"shows you what truly great HDR photos can look like" - iPhone Photography School

Fusion creates HDR (high dynamic range) photos by capturing different exposures and then combining them into one perfectly exposed photo. The result is an image that overcomes the limited range of a digital image sensor and reflects what the human eye can actually see.

By taking advantage of the new burst mode in iOS 8, Fusion takes three bracketed exposures in 3/10ths of a second. The brackets can be automatically calculated based on algorithmic analysis of the scene, or manually specified. Exposure can be locked using a spot meter mode similar to a DSLR and can also be manually adjusted. A histogram gives you the technical info you need.

You can save multiple shots to the recent sessions list or go directly to the Fusion editor. The editor instantly aligns the photos to remove any slight camera movement and then presents an initial fused result. Then Fusion blends the best exposed areas of the under exposed and over exposed brackets, with the main bracket.

The shadow/highlight controls allow you to get the look you want. From subtle lighting improvement to intense HDR. The editor includes all the adjustments you'll need to create a beautiful photo. Basic lighting adjustments and white balance as well as color controls.

The session list stores the bracketed photos as you shoot and allows you to go back and re-open sessions for editing.

Just crashes when trying to take a photo.. Crashes

The best her app on the market!. I have tried them all (yes ALL of them!) and this is the best HDR camera on the market. The use of burst mode means that the effects if camera shake is minimized. No hokey oversaturated photos, the built in editor (with links to phototoaster) allows you full control over the final look. Don't hesitate, buy it today!

Greatly extends the capabilities of the iPhone. The small camera sensor in the iPhone can only produce images with a limited dynamic range. Fusion's ability to align and merge three exposures, taken with a single release of the shutter button, allows it to create iPhone images of significantly expanded dynamic range. Problem solved. An interesting feature is the ability of the app to create asymmetrical brackets. The shadows might be 2.5 stops over and the highlights only a 1.5 stops under - all determined automatically by the app. One benefit is that blown out sky details with a nasty cyan tint are no longer a problem. Lastly, the app has very use full set of tools for adjusting all of the key parameters in the merged image. The app will be improved once the creators enable an end to end TIFF workflow. The present version can merge even 22 meg TIFFs from other sources, but can only output up to 10 meg JPEGs. All in all, Fusion HDR is very highly recommended.

Paid version has ads obscuring interface. Does a pretty good job of merging the bracketed images. I like that you can go into the library and adjust the sliders on the spot or later. But it would be nice to have the option to automatically save the merged image to Photos. They lose 2 stars for ads in a paid app. That's a big no-no! I bought this as part of a bundle and still have to see ads, their own, which they call 'messages'. A 'message' which annoyingly obscures part of the interface and won't go away until I click on it and am taken to another screen trying to sell me on more of their products is still an ad. I want to whip out my phone and take a photo of a landscape without having to jump through hoops to get rid of ads which are in my way. ECP: Do not annoy your paying customers if you want them to ever buy another app from you.

Frustrating. Piece of crap!

App quits on latest iOS release. I have used this app for a while now and it was working fine until the latest iOS update. Every time I take a picture, the app crashes. I tried to contact support and their support access page gives you 15 seconds to write your help request before you have to punch “I’m not a robot” before you continue. I don’t what joker thought that was a good idea, but until you fix the app and get a proper support request access port that lets you make a request for help, you get one star.., fix it and I will update my review!

Dire need of updates…. FusionHDR was a “go to” app for iPhone HDR photography… in fact many of the photos I shared on Instagram were taken with FusionHDR. But no updates in 5 years? No leveraging of the newer iOS photo APIS? And the FusionHDR website domain was taken over? Guys cmon. Make some commitment….!

Can’t save a picture. As soon as the picture is taken the app crashes. iPhone 11. iOS 14.3.

Used to work, not anymore. Won’t work anymore. Keeps crashing. I emailed the developer and never got a response. Oh well too bad, it used to be a good app.

The Best HDR App for iPhone, but broken on iPad. I own many HDR apps, and this is by far the best in terms of speed and quality of the pics. Works great on the iPhone. Unusable on the iPad, since a couple of updates ago broke the landscape mode. This happens both on my Air 2 and on my Pro, but not on the iPhone. I have reported this a long time ago but no action so far. Avoid it on iPads.

Photo manipulation. I only recently began taking my photography hobby seriously. I like using my phone to photograph almost as much as my main camera. My only beef with fusion is that I'd like to be able to do the same thing on my pc with my canon. Other than that you have a very powerful photographers tool in the palm of your hand:) thanks

Best HDR iOS, hands down.. Of all the HDR apps available for download regardless of price, this one is by far the best, hands down. It is not your normal ‘artsy crafty’ approach to HDR. The point that sold me was the ability to offload the bracketed images for off phone post processing. The results are on a par with most of the native PC applications, S-N-S HDR, Photoshop, Lightroom etc. Very professional app. Well done.

Just kills ProHDR/X and all the others. I've been a huge fan of ProHDR and the X version for years, but the recent zoom bug with iOS 9 that doesn't seem to be getting any support led me to look for a replacement. Currently on a trip to Peru and didn't want to miss a shot. Fusion does everything ProHDR did better, and added all the features I'd been meaning to write in and ask for like wider dynamic range, timer, anti-shake trigger, and better control of HDR effect in post. What really impressed me most is the lack of artificial gradients in Fusion that are so characteristic in HDR apps. You get more dynamic range in scenery and window shots without the false dark clouds. My only request is the ability to sync between installs on iPhone and iPad for better editing the results. Focus control would be awesome too, but that's pretty niche. Otherwise the cheapest and best upgrade to your iPhone camera available!

Great app but limited by the jpg file format. This is a great HDR app with a very useful feature set. It is limited by the jpeg file format. What it really needs is access to the RAW file generated by the image sensor which Apple does not allow. 16 bit tiff would be a great improvement if possible. The built in camera app does HDR but you have no creative control.

Turns you into a pro photographer. Seriously, Fusion has enabled me to take photos that literally would have been impossible using a standard camera app, even those that include a basic HDR capability. I’ve tried a LOT of camera apps, but the ability to extensively post-process your photos with Fusion generates truly remarkable results.

Awesome 👩🏻👌🏻🍄☀️🌺🌸. Great app for contrast the scenes. Ever have a photo where you get the foreground expose but the sky is over exposed or vice versa this app fixes that takes three pictures and merges it together and then you have controls after to tweak it like temperature sharpness exposure highlights etc. They do have a little tutorial but the trick is move the Square to where you want the exposure to be then lock the exposure by tapping the lock button and then do the same for the focus but you can do the focus in a different area after you lock in the exposure. I went hiking today and took some really great photos with this app. Read the in-app guide which was very helpful Just tap tutorials/community

Hands down, best HDR. Nice brackets, properly merged without halos. Well done!

By far the best HDR app!. All the other HDR apps I've tried make overly dramatic or vibrant pictures. Fusion can make dramatic photos also, but excels at evening out the dark and light areas in a natural-looking way. It also lets you save the bracketed shots so you can use them in a desktop app like Aurora.

Neglected. Is this app dead or will there be further development? This app doesn’t reflect updating you’d expect from a paid app.

Random photo sizes. I just too 3 HDR photos with this app, all of which saved to my camera roll at different sizes, off by a few pixels each. This makes it tough to use the photos in another HDR app (Hmmmmm!). Since this hasn’t been updated in a couple of years I’m guessing nothing will be done about it, but prospective buyer beware.

Best Photography Tool. This app is a photographers best friend... It does so many things in one simple click. I am a nature photographer and I like taking on the fly family portraits when out and about and it's perfect for that how the sky comes into view and the persons face is perfect. Love this app. I think the ability to take photos from your library and use them with the app to edit the photo just as if you were taking that photo with this app.

Won't work with existing pictures.. I bought this, wanting to merge some pictures I had already taken with another camera using exposure bracketing, but this app apparently only works with pictures taken within the app. A big letdown. Wish I had known this since I have many other apps that can already do what this one does. If it ever supports camera roll pictures for creating HDR, I will up my review rating.

Best HDR app available!. I beta tested Fusion and bought it as soon as it became available. It's a brilliant app. It is extremely fast, versatile and well designed. East Coast Pixels consistently delivers great products and provides excellent customer support. I amassed quite a collection of HDR apps over the years but, after using Fusion for a while, I erased the rest of them from my phone.

It works fine. Interface needs polishing.. Does what it's suppose to do. The interface however leaves much to be desired. Include the Photo Library as a main choice instead of going thru the Help and More button. Easy access of the photo library is the most important option for photographers. I rarely use my iPhone or iPad to take photos and I bet most photographers don't as well.

Love this app!. I can make images that look like my mind wants to see...fabulous!

Doesn’t work with iOS 13. Used to be a go to app. Now it just crashes. Useless.

HDR WINNER!. I've tried most of the HDR apps on the App Store and always read reviews on HDR apps to keep up with the improvements being made. Fusion is the best I've used. It's now my go-to capture app. Fast, natural looking results with adjustments to tweak the image before saving. It's great!

Crashes every time you shoot. Worked fine for a while, but now it crashes without saving every time I shoot. So useless. Problem w latest iOS update? Emailed support for help but no reply. When will it get fixed?

Great results -- only wish bluetooth trigger would work with it. Great for HDR photos beating the Apple Camera app. It doesn't however work with a bluetooth camera trigger. Unless you need that trigger it's a product worth your time and money.

Crashes instantly!. Crashes instantly in iOS 13. Such a shame that this was abandoned since it used to be the best HDR app in the App Store.

App closes after closes. I allowed the app to access all photos but still cannot take any pictures

FUSION:. Like this app a lot. Gives tools for being creative with your photos or for making bad ones better. Very user-friendly! I would definitely recommend to others. I especially like the warmer/cooler, saturation and shadows features.

Impressive. This app takes stunning photos.

Picture Quality Easily 5 Stars. I love HDR and purchase every HDR app and always give it a try. The picture quality that can be achieved with this app is absolutely the best. But the usability is not the best. After every snap of a picture, you must go through nearly 15 adjustment options to get the picture to look nice and save it. I wish it had predefined presets and/or the ability to have user presets that I could quickly tap and save once reviewing the picture, then just be ready to snap another picture. The app vividHDR usability blows this app out of the water, but this app has the ability to create better image quality.

Great addition to basic photo app. I've taken quite a few photos with just the regular camera app, and they're completely blown out, but then I'll take the same photo with the fusion app and everything is metered properly. Awesome app.

It crashes when taking photos.. It crashes when taking photos.

great crashing app. it’s totally useless, crashes every time you take a picture and the picture are not even saved.

Awesome!. I'm not an accomplished, knowledgeable photographer, and I don't have to be with this app. My iPhone 6 photos are now awesome. I just have to remember to take them out in the Fusion app, as you can't adjust, improve ones you take with the regular iPhone camera.

Fast and easy to use. Fast and easy to use. Quality is quite good. Be awesome if the bracketing has a 5 bracket option.

Question about app. Why is it after taking a picture with this nice app I am brought to manual editing where is the automatic adjustment? I am an amateur not a professional. Even the photo library allows an auto tune refinement. Would could someone chime in and help me with this? Thanks

Doesn’t work. Just bought it. iPhone 11 Pro latest iOS and it just crashes when taking photos.

still working with it. Although my comparisons have proven to me that this app is better than the built-in camera app, I still want better images from Fusion. I'd love to find a way to work with 2 of the exposures rather than all 3, but if it exists, I haven't found it yet. I also wish I could find a reset button for the sliders, but again, can't find anything like that. And sliders to adjust the exposure range would be terrific too. I look forward to updates!

A forgotten jewel!. I've bought, literally, hundreds of iOS apps, most in the photography/videography category. At some point in the not too distant past, I bought Fusion but failed to fully assess its capabilities. So it was ignored in my Camera folder. Finally, I methodically compared identical high contrast subjects taken with six different apps that claimed hdr enhancement. Fusion proved to be clear winner in producing high resolution merged shots capturing full tonality and detail! Plus, it offers all of the adjustments to achieve perfect shots. Really impressive! (Hope that the developer continues to upgrade this fine tool.)

Not flexible. Why does it HAVE to be 3 photos to merge? 6 years ago I had an identical app and it was 2 photos. One light exposure. One dark exposure. I don’t mind the clunky iOS 4 style interface, but WHY 3 photos? My main usage for this app was to take my own pictures and fuse them. Lining up 2 photos perfectly was hard enough, now in order to use this at all I’ll need a 3rd... I guess medium light shot? The app seems to work but right now I have serious buyers remorse. I’ll probably not open this app again until they update it to allow fusion of only 2 images. Ideally I’d like a refund, because I didn’t know they would have this weird 3 photo situation

This used to be a great program but now when I take a photo it crashes. I can’t take a photo it crashes. If I press the email support button an error message pops up. Their site doesn’t list this product anymore. I think I can still load and edit fusion photos on my camera role. I really liked this as it allowed me to take excellent photos and do a quick hdr treatment to get really realistic photos snd match the scene. But alas I can’t use it now.

Awesome HDR app!!. This is an awesome app for creating and editing your HDR images!! I'm so glad to have discovered Fusion!! I own a prosumer DSLR camera and was looking for a way to streamline HDR photography without having to use Photoshop while away from home. Wait no more, this app is your answer!! I have used Fusion for two days now. Super easy to use, just point and shoot! I would recommend turning on the anti-shake feature to increase success rate. Editing tools are simple to use. All I can say is wow!

Not User Friendly. This app is too difficult to use. I have had experience with other photo blend apps. This is not one I prefer.

No real HDR bracketing. Unfortunately this app does not take several shots with different exposures. It’s just a standard photo app with nice options, but the bracketing is faked with the same shot. The result is very far from any other real HDR app which uses several exposures. The editing options are nice but there is plenty of other options for a standard camera app that do not lie about its features like this one.

Better images than built in HDR. There are a LOT of HDR apps in the App Store and the iPhone has a native mode. So why did I add yet another ? Bracketing with histogram It's easy to use and increases my range up to 3. This gives nice blended image look that I could get with my DLSR but we all know how that goes ... Gee I wish I had it with me. The company that makes this app makes the hugely underrated photo toaster app. They work well together and I can get some nice effects. My only wish would be a few filters but I can import it into another app and add it.

Turn your iPhone into a Google Pixel!. I have bought every HDR app on the App Store and this is by far my favorite. It takes stunning photos from the outset, and although I hate manual post photo editing, this is the only app I have ever used that made editing easy for a super novice like myself!

Well made her app. Well made program with good capabilities. Compared a few and this one seems to capture images with more detail and provides the highest control over final output through the the shadow highlight adjust. Improvements: some pics will not align perfectly if the exposure range is very wide. Add a bulk or accept all selected images based on settings. Bulk save would be nice. Curve might be useful.. Maybe even a countdown timer for howlong the camera needs to stay still for low exposure shots where it locks on but takes a while longer to capture in lower light. Zebras for saturation points would be nice.

Crashes badly. Does not take a picture...

Crashes always iPhone X. Crashes every time you take a picture on an iPhone X. Used to work months ago on an iPhone 7.

Going to be polite. This app is a piece of crap. Every time I take a photo the app closes/crashes.

Terrible in iOS 12. I have loved and used this app for a very long time. Yet using it on a newly setup iPhone XS Max on 12.1 it hangs and crashes EVERY time after it takes the pictures and then attempts to process it. Upon exiting the app and then re-entering it, it shows a completely different photo from the history taken months before the current one.

Crashes as soon as pictures taken. I have iPhone 6s with latest iOS update. As soon as I take a picture the app closes and image is nowhere to be found. I see this app hasn’t been updated in 4 yrs and yet you’re still having to pay for it. How about an update?!

My #1 Camera App for HDR. I use Fusion HDR for all my iPhone photography except for those rare occasions where HDR is not suitable. Fusion has the best HDR interface and editing. I often like to shoot directly into the light which really shows the strength of HDR. I also use fusion to process HDR image sets made in other apps and it works perfectly for this too. I think in the early days I tended to overdo the HDR a little - the intensity setting in particular. I am quite puzzled by the problems I have read that other users have experienced. Fusion has been 100% reliable since I first started using it way back. I phone 5, then 6, then 7 Plus, and now 8 Plus. Worked perfectly on whatever was the current operating system at the time.

Disappointing. I usually like ECP apps, but this one isn't up to their usual standard. The HDR quality is poor, there are better, cheaper apps out there which render nicer images. In fact, the native iOS HDR setting takes better photos. I installed it on my iPhone, however after a couple of uses the capture image button would stop working and the app would crash. I deleted it. I would also like to know why it takes up 70MG of Data and Document space when I had no recent edits, nothing stored in the app. Pass on this ECP app, TrueHDR and ProHDR are better apps.

Great. Loving it

Great. Installed it today, and so far very impressed, maybe the only thing missing is the zoom, but besides that the quality ad ease of the app is terrific

Just wasted three bucks. Beware! This app does not allow stitching images that are stored in the camera roll! Useless.

Professional. Most Professional user interface, best image quality overall, no volume button shutter, no pano or square but good sharing options.my Go-to app.

Great HDR app but still some issues. I just have one issue with this, the yellow line (that detects if your device is straight) is not fully center when my iPhone is in landscape mode. Other than that this is a great update!

Fantastic. My "Go To" App for HDR

Great. Great

Love it. Takes great brackets. I can add them in the app or other apps if I choose.

Great HDR App!. The ability to save the photos to edit at a later time is a must have feature that is well implemented! Overall a great HDR app for the iPhone!

Good principle.bad app. When it works —about 2% of the time is good enough. But for most of my pics it didn’t work.

Nice. No regrets, after I figured it out it's the best app

Well done!. Brilliant app, allowing quality HDR shots to be had on a whim. By far the best of its kind, Fusion delivers stunning reworks in an easy to use platform.

Just keeps getting better. Love the access via the "today" availability.

Awesome!. Great tool for beautiful photos!

This app fusion. I don't like this app because it will not upload any of my pictures off of my photo album on my phone, so my rating for this app is a 1. I'm sorry I didn't enjoy this game.

So rich!. I'm getting really rich, vibrant images with this app. It's not cheesy HDR!

Easy to use, excellent, quick results.. Tools are well organized. Indoor shots easily modified. Good control of saturation, hue and sharpening. Shots look realistic, no halos or weird colors.

Great for indoor photography!. This app makes a huge difference when shooting indoors, especially when there's bright light from a window in your background.

Such a worthwhile app!. Definitely better than other HDR apps. The app blends 3 exposures into a single pic, resulting in better HDR shots than the basic camera app. There's scope for improvement, but overall this app is one of the best.

Fast HDR!. This is a great app. I haven't learned all the ins and outs but it's fast and allows you to go back to previous image captures.

Another East Coast Winner!!!. Nice work East Coast Pixels. Really happy and pleased so far from this new unexpected Camera App. Great compliment to Phototoaster. Been happy with use, function, layout and results from this App so far…..Keep up the great work! Thanks…...

Garbage. Pro HDR is better and doesn't crash
