Best app ever for Chinese/ Mandarin help. I’m a student and I’ve been struggling trying to learn Chinese while studying other classes. Quite honestly the best app I’ve ever used and it does crash but barely and it found every character I needed to find. I will be buying the unlimited and I believe you should too. The one time fee is definitely worth and helping the developers for their great work.

Crashes since new update, good otherwise. App function is great, but all camera functions instantly crash the app

Not worth the money at all. Don’t buy. You can get all of the features of this app in other apps that won’t cost you. A review from two years ago complains about how the translator won’t accurately translate sentences, and the developers even responded and said they were going to get it fixed. It’s been two years and the translator still does not work. Pleco is a much better dictionary and just about every function of this app has a better, free counterpart. Even the camera translator that is its supposed claim to fame is worse than Wechat’s camera translator. Final thought: don’t waste your money like I did on this mediocre app.

Does not work. This app is not worth the money. I thought the concept of using your camera would be great. First try though it kept giving multiple options over and over for the same writing. No specific translation. Now it doesn't give any translation with the camera and the hand written translation (you draw it in) gave a completely different translation from another app I have. The other app was free and it works better.

Impressive!. OCR is always a tricky thing. This app does a pretty bang up job, but has difficulty with certain things such as text and background contrast, stylized text such as calligraphy font and extra thick fonts, and characters with lots of strokes. One such example is 臺灣. It performs best on plain text containing thin lines and when live detection is turned off. You must also have very steady hands and sufficient light when taking snapshots. I wish it were possible for the camera's flash to function while using it either as a flash or as a flashlight. However, you can get around this by taking a picture using the camera app and then accessing the camera roll from this app. Unlike another reviewer's comment, I did find that this app is capable of recognizing terms consisting of two or more characters that are compounded. It can read vertically as well. All in all I do recommend this app and look forward to further improvements. One thing I would like to see is the ability to have spoken audio for the read text.

App currently crashes when opened to camera :(. Hope the devs see this, but the app crashes on my phone as soon as it launches and begins trying to process characters. If I cover the camera and switch to another mode, then it turns out ok, but since I got this app specifically for the camera mode this is a bit of a dealbreaker. Not sure if it’s just my device but hope it gets resolved soon! Otherwise great app. Edit: The developers have been extremely helpful in trying to track down the issues, best experience I’ve ever had with an app dev. Updating the rating as they find the problem, and in the meantime still good to use the image upload vs live camera recognition!

Lost in China. This app is completely useless for one with no knowledge of Chinese characters trying to interpret a string of characters. I've not been able to get it to translate anything correctly, even a string of characters for which I know the translation.

Awesome except for one thing. My only complaint is that the text analyzer glitches once you go past a certain number of lines/characters. Same problem with Yomiwa. Please fix, otherwise great!

Super handy and easy to use!. I am a previous user of Yomiwa (the Japanese counterpart of HanYou), which I already loved. This new app is as handy and great for well-needed on-the-fly translation. I am traveling to Shanghai next month and will for sure use it a lot!

Amazing. I love this app, it helps very much! I get to confirm when I do my chinese homework and I’m finally glad I found something free to help translate using a photo!!!

Nothing special. I never did too much on it, it does not offer much. Download ChineseSkill instead if you want to learn Chinese.

App works great since bug fix!. I love this app and recommend to all my friends. There was a bug last week and after reaching out to the developers they responded immediately and fixed it!

Good idea, poor execution. This is an excellent idea, but as currently designed isn't very useful. It only recognizes and translates a single character at a time, which given the fact that most words and concepts in chinese are made up of two or more characters that may or may not be related to the individual characters, renders the app fairly useless compared to the translation ability of, say, Google Translate. Also, the camera often misreads characters, especially if they're in anything other than a very standard, typed font. If the app could be improved by: (1) adding recognition of full sentences or phrases and translating all of it together, and (2) improving recognition of characters, this app would blow other translation apps out of the water.

Very useful app to learn Chinese. Hanyou really helps me increase my vocab in Chinese. Not only I learn the meaning of new words, but I get the pronunciation too. Flash cards are useful too

Reasonable. This app doesn't pick up on about one third of the characters(simplified) I've tried so far. However, what it does find is fairly accurate. This app is not worth the price now, but maybe with some improvements.

Good stuff. Really helped me save time and actually has a working camera function. Very nice.

It needs improvement. The main problem of the software is the OCR algorithm used of this application. The accuracy is much lower than the IPhone default Chinese input. The author of the application should seriously consider to choose a better OCR algorithm. I suspect that he/she might only use an outdated OCR algorithm.

Complete crap. Literally unusable translations when it works at all. If it were free it would still be junk.

Very good for learning. This is the best dictionary I use and am glad it can split screen. But one thing for sure, there are a few more words that doesn’t have a English dictionary meaning for it. And can we get the translator improved too? I’d pay for the one-time premium package to help and support you ;w;

Not perfect but it’s the best for Chinese-English. Was super easy and quick to use, gives both the translation and the Chinese pronunciation so you can either just fast read the translation or also use it to help yourself learn the language. There is also a dictionary, a kanji drawing mode and other cool tools. It’s the only app I found that works without having to constantly take pictures, also worked on screens

New update makes it hard to read text. The new update which added dark mode has made the text unreadable when dark mode is enabled. Other than that the app is excellent for learning Chinese characters

Best to learn mandarin app hands down. I have a number of applications to help me learn Mandarin and this one has been exceptionally handy, not only when traveling in China but also at home in Canada teaching myself from books and other resources. I can’t say enough good things about it! 谢谢🙏

Excellent translator/ speech pronounciation. Help learn Pin Yin （Beijing）Mandarin speech pronoun ciation and learn Chinese words. No wifi needed since app is language preloaded.
