HealthEquity Mobile Comments & Reviews 2026
New App - Looks Cool but lost functionality.. Originally the app was fine. However this new update looks better but we lost functionality. Two big functions I used in the older version of the app were sorting by claim ID and the ability to close or reopen a claim. Both of these functions are no longer available in the app. Now I prefer to go online instead of using the cool looking app.
Better but not perfect yet. I believe when you leave a review, it offers suggestions of how to improve. When I see reviews of “it’s the worst app in the world” it’s unhelpful and probably a competitor trying to lower scores or someone that doesn’t actually want you to fix anything. This new app is a big improvement from the old one. I’d like to see easier filtering for “expenses”. but balances, investments and uploads are greatly improved. Login works great and thanks for fixing the face scanner. I look forward to further improvements.
Painful. The app and Health Equity’s whole reimbursement system is agonizing to use, at least for FSA. When you snap a picture of your documentation, it will often cut off the last inches. I’ve gotten used to that. But to even get there you have to let the app spin for about a full minute and if you tap too many times, you’ll have to close a bunch of open windows that pop up once the app finally wakes up. Once in, then to submit the expense, it asks for extra information that the desktop version does not. So it is much easier to use the mobile app just to take the picture and upload the documentation and then use the desktop computer for the rest of your claim. Mercer FSA was so much easier. Hate to call out the competition but this is my experience.
Transition. My current HSA account is closing. My employer informed us that HealthEquity would be our new provider. When I receive my HealthEquity card, I thought all of the funding from my other account would be accessible immediately, it was not. I do not remember the lovely lady’s name that assisted me when I called, however, she was fantastic, and walked me through the process with dates, holding dates, and when funds would be readily available and in HealthEquity. She also walked me through some of her favorite sites on the HealthEquity app and website. I have notes, but they’re not in front of me so I cannot give her name. I was a little apprehensive because I did enjoy my current providers amenities. It looks like HealthEquity has the same level of service, probably better. They definitely have excellent representatives on the phone. Thank you.
Updated Review: Deleted it. Just doesn’t work.. UPDATE July, 2023: Tried again on a whim. Nope. The app is useless. Simply WILL NOT let me log in. Changed my password multiple times. I can log in on my computer, but the app continues to tell me that my user name and password is wrong. Even when I log in on the computer, it makes me verify my identity EVERY TIME. Clicking “remember this device” is a waste of a finger click, because it never does. I wish my company would switch FSA vendors, and I’ve told them that. Every time I try to log in it gives a message that an error has occurred and the issue has been logged. Tried it on multiple days, but same issue each time. I can log in on my computer fine. The app just doesn’t work.
Never remembers my password and will not let me use Face ID.. This app used to be great, but around three or four updates ago, it started requiring my password every single time I logged in. Then I will enter my password, login, and set up the biometric login, which should be my Face ID. Then on the same session I go back into it and it shows that it is not clicked over to the biometric login. It's almost like it forgets it immediately after you click it over to start using it. Also, it won't let you use the app at all unless you update it when the new update comes out. I don't know how many times I've wanted to just login and check my balance quickly, but then I have to download the new update and re-enter my password again, just to get my balance. Please fix this because it is a huge hassle to constantly put my password in when I should be able to use my Face ID. Also, it doesn't matter if you click remember me, because that doesn't work either.
Needs an overhaul. Unfortunately my company uses woke-named “HealthEquity”. The app works in a sense, but leaves way too much to be desired. It’s slow, frequently crashes, difficult to navigate, barely performs the essential functions. Want to submit a claim? Well, the app will replace the provider’s name with your own after submission, corrupting up your claim history. Can you correct it in app or online? Absolutely not. Need to attach a receipt? Better take a photo first because the app forces a square aspect ratio. Once your receipt is attached, time to submit for reimbursement. Wait, the app froze on submission and won’t respond despite waiting? Time to force kill. Want to look at claim history? You have to dig through the menus to find it. While you’re digging through those menus, you’re waiting for the app to respond to your screen taps. Now the app is unresponsive. Time to force kill and start over. Oh, the app submitted the claim twice? Well, time to login online and navigate who different screens, using different lexicon for the same concepts, in order to void the claim. I’m not sure how any of these basic features were released in this state. Did you even perform functional analysis? Did you perform heuristic analysis of usability? As a reference, the PayFlex app is very basic, but responsive and functional. Take a look at the competition and learn what makes them successful.
Easy to use and secure. Proven security is at the heart of the HealthEquity app, giving me peace of mind when managing my personal health information. The app is incredibly user-friendly, with a clean interface that makes navigating through features, straightforward, and intuitive. I love how quickly I can access my health records, track, my expenses, and manage my health savings account all in one place The regular updates show the developers are committed to maintaining a high levels of security and functionality. Highly recommend this app for anyone looking to streamline their health management with confidence and ease!
Buggy and clunky. Log in submit reimbursement sometimes it shows up. Some times it doesn’t. Sometimes you get a keyboard sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you submit something three times before it shows up and it shows up twice. I went through hassle of adding provider with lots of info so I don’t have to add it every time but it doesn’t show up later. Instead one of my kids names shows up instead. Which I suppose makes sense (in a weird badly programmed way) because when I entered my kids they didn’t show up until I restarted app, then they showed up fine. All the time stuff doesn’t fit on the screen so you’re scrolling for basic buttons. Checkboxes don’t look like checkboxes so you end up missing stupid things you have to check every time “yes send the 5th thing I’m getting a reimbursement for to my checking account, just like the prior four.” Stupid “I agree” checkboxes all over the place that don’t look like checkboxes. Desktop is much easier. Still has some stupid stuff but at least it seems tested and like the people who designed it have actually used a desktop computer.
Garbage App Garbage Company. Probably one of the most painful apps I have ever used for expenses. It’s so bad it feels deliberate. As if maybe ‘we’ make the app difficult to use people won’t use it correctly and we will get to keep their money … I will give you two examples. 1. My 2024 FSA is still active yet the app defaults to viewing details on my 2025 FSA which does not become active for another month. So if I want to view expenses or transactions the view is empty by default because the initial view is for an FSA account that is not in fact active yet! 2. Transactions take days or sometimes even weeks to appear even when they were paid with The debit card. I had a debit dentist appointment a month ago that I paid using the FSA debit card. The available FSA balance in the app correctly reflects the charge yet the charge itself doesn’t appear anywhere in either the transactions or expenses view. Yet in order for the transaction to be validated I have to provide documentation. So I probably have to wait several more weeks for the transaction to appear before I can attach the relevant documentation. How much do you want to bet that it will be up to me to constantly check for the transaction? Because you know if I don’t, the transaction will be denied and Health Equity will get to keep my money…
Slow and laggy. This app looks fine but features load slowly and some of the buttons don’t work like they should. The prompt to review the app has one option - “not now” and that button doesn’t work. I have to force close the app to get past it. There were some other things like this that would not allow me to operate the app properly until I logged in on the website to accept terms, then I could use the app. The app also takes too long to load information that should be available immediately after logging in. For now, at least until these fixes are implemented, I’m afraid to make any real changes to my HSA account within the app, and will instead use the web browser.
Review. I like the app, however, if a service provider claims that they have yet to receive their payment, the feature to see the address details for each payment made is no longer available, making me have to call to verify details rather than quickly checking myself. Please reinstate that feature. Also the investing feature is confusing. I receive notification that a transaction is pending as if I need to do something, yet, when I log in, there is nothing for me to do. So I am not sure if transactions are being completed/handled. Thanks
Use a web browser on a desktop computer instead of the iOS app. For about ten years, I have had my HSA at HealthEquity. I usually use a web browser on a desktop computer to access my account. As a test, I decided to use the iPad app today to submit several receipts for card transactions at a doctor. I had already scanned the receipts and placed them in a folder on my iCloud account. The steps to submit the first receipt were not as simple as on the desktop. For example, the list of card transactions showed the date that the doctor actually “applied” the payment, not the date of my appointment. The worst part of using the iPad app was that after I successfully submitted the first receipt, the program sends the user back to the “More” page where you got started. The user then needs to drill back down into the submit a receipt page to submit another receipt. Never again am I going to use this app for this task. I am going back to the web site with my desktop computer.
Way too complicated. The new app looks nice but regular expense tasks are buried. New expenses don’t show up in the app on the same day as the expense happens, so you cannot attach the receipt immediately. If you simply save the receipt in the app to attach it later there is no way to review it large enough to see the numbers outside of a useless thumbnail. The previous service my employer used had it right. As soon as an expense happened it appeared in the app moments later. I could simply take a picture of the receipt right from the main page of the app and file the physical paperwork when I got home. Easy, painless and straightforward. I had to hunt to do this on the latest version of the app.
Needs Apple Pay. My HSA has been moved to various banks due to mergers. I finally landed on HealthEquity last year. The app is fine and works generally well. My biggest issue is my HSA card not supporting Apple Pay even though the past three banks have. I don’t usually carry my HSA card with me because I pay the bill once insurance kicks in. But for those trips to the pharmacy or dentist, it would be nice to have. I also wish the investment options were expanded more. Hoping this is fixed in a year or two or I might look at moving to Optum.
Slower notifications and approvals. Prior to the last update, I would get notified the second anyone in my family used a card to access money. Now it can take up to a week. And our use of the card just sits in the list with parentheses around it this whole time, getting rearranged as the week goes by. I realize this may be more of a system issue than an app issue, but when I saw that the most recent update was 2 months ago, it seems to be related perhaps.
Unstable App. I’ve used various versions of the HealthEquity app over the past few years. The app continues to be very unstable. The popup menu typically takes an extended period of time to appear (sometimes it doesn’t appear at all). Additionally, the app frequently quits unexpectedly. Despite numerous versions of the app being released, these issues have continued to get worse. Please invest the appropriate amount of money and time to release a version of the app that is stable and corrects these issues! It typically days an extended period of time (4-6 days) before reimbursements are finally deposited into my bank account. In an era where most transactions go through quickly, it is absurd that HealthEquity takes this long to transfer funds.
QA A/B testing...I think not. StephanTX214 said it best, I couldn’t phrase it better myself considering his review and his comments on another 5-star review (HOW IN THE WORLD, btw). The old app was an absolute crapshoot but it kinda worked and was MUCH more streamlined than this new version. The providers storage/logging/database (idk what to call it cause it never worked) has never and still does not store information on previous providers that would make it much easier to submit claims. Most folks see the same care providers...I, for one, LOVE entering the same information over and over again for each claim. I can’t even begin to describe how much of a step backwards the new app is... 1) Cluttered UI 2) Terrible user journey to submit a claim 3) Terrible user experience 4) What’s a pop-out? (Sarcasm) This is the most outdated component I’ve seen. 5) Throw all the information you can at me, in tiny font. Yes, it’s productive for me to look at. I get lost in the sauce of my HSA every time I open this app. It oozes with creativity, and practicality. The streamlined nature of it is truly remarkable. Do you guys do ANY SAT/QA/A-B testing? Surely, NO ONE would’ve chosen this new layout over the old. Jeez o man this is a shameful development shop.
Painful. This is the SLOWEST and BUGGIEST app I have. It is painful for me to use. I usually have to try 3-4 times to get a reimbursement request submitted because it will freeze or crash that often during use. I’ve had it for years and it has only had mild improvements during that time. If it wasn’t chosen for me by my employer, I would delete it in a heartbeat. The pop up menu takes 10+ seconds to load each time, if it even does. The list of Providers only loads half the time. It crashes after submission the other half. There’s little to no information about the status of a claim or when it will actually be reimbursed. It has a generally good concept behind it, but the execution is terrible. Submitting a claim should take me only about a minute, but it usually takes at least 10 with all the bugs. Each selection will often freeze, have no options to choose from, or cause the app to crash completely.
UX fail. New UI is terribly unusable. The old one was significantly easier to use. No point making it look pretty if it’s harder to get tasks done. Why wouldn’t you default the service end date to the service start date when the start date is changed? Why force entry for a provider billing address if I’m going to reimburse myself? Maybe ask first in the flow. Why force a dollar entry on the final reimbursement screen when it’s already there twice. At least default it. Why does the receipt attach camera capture want to force crop to a square? Have you ever received a perfectly square receipt? I haven’t. Why is the receipt image shown rotated 90 degrees from the capture angle? Why not allow multiple selects from the expenses list when requesting reimbursement? Or at least refresh the list reimbursement status when returning to it from the reimbursement flow. I could go on.
Garbage app. This app is terrible. How does a person upload documents almost a year ago that payments get processed and now you say those documents are no longer sufficient? Now I need to include an itemized bill for approval or you need to pay us back? Why am I the only person on the account for services when I have dependents under the dental portion of my insurance? Why are the documents I uploaded all of the sudden blurry? Why can’t I attach documents to past payments- it says filter and nothing shows up? If this is the company that you employer uses, do your self a HUGE favor and stay in control of your own money by putting it away in your own bank or another company you can choose and investigate. After all it is YOUR money and it shouldn’t be this hard to JUSTIFY your payments on medical expenses!! Just garbage!
The app works as poorly as the actual Health Equity company. I utilized my app to submit the majority of my claims. 75% of the time, I received an email stating I had requested a claim cancellation or that there was an issue with my bank for the reimbursement. The email would suggest I contact Health Equity via their customer service number. The people answering the phone had no idea how to look up the account information or how to assist. One woman kept telling me I had submitted for a future date which the app doesn’t allow you to do. With each request expect to lose approximately 1-2 hours of your life between submitting, following up, and attempting to resolve with a representative. It’s poor user experience no matter what avenue you take with health equity.
Never allows me to request reimbursement. The app used to be super slow, glitchy, and had a terrible interface where text would end up all jumbled. All of that has been resolved which is great, but every time I try to submit for reimbursement it tells me that there is not enough in my account (even though there is). If I lower the amount it simply says “error” and will not process the request. I end up going to the website in a browser every time and have no issues there. They’ve made a lot of improvements, but this app is useless to me if I can’t upload expenses or request reimbursement.
Infinite "Server Maintenance", unusable app. This app used to be fine - good enough for its purpose, I could get in and look at my balance and transactions which was what I mainly used it for. Ever since I upgraded my phone to iOS 18 a few days ago (not sure if that's related but I suspect it might be), I have opened the app several times a day to find the same message all the time: "Server Maintenance - Our servers are down for maintenance. Please try again later." It seems like "later" is "never." The website works fine so I don't think they've truly been under server maintenance this whole time. Totally unacceptable to not be able to easily access account information on mobile for close to a week.
Average app w/ annoying bug. I’ve been using this app for about 10 months since my company started using HealthEquity. It serves it’s purpose but is generally slow to load data and a bit limited. But the one thing that constantly annoys me is that on the Accounts dashboard when viewing my HSA investment account, it always shows “Return YTD: +0.00%” and even when I open the account details, it only shows a dollar amount increase but still “YTD 0”. Fairly useless in seeing how the how the account is doing
Worst app I’ve experienced in years. Health Equity is used by my employer so I’m stuck with them unless I chose not to renew my HSA contributions next year. Which is very likely at this point. Beyond the fact that it took them nearly a year to tell me a particular transaction wasn’t approved because my policy start date was almost 2 months after I started my job, and the transaction occurred 4 days too early, leaving me with no option other than to reimburse them and lose the money because it’s now too late to pay anything from 2022 (everything else has been paid already)…. This app is horrible. It’s not easy to navigate. It seems like it should be fairly straightforward and intuitive. But on the off chance you can find what you’re looking for or get any of the functionality to open when you click on it, when you try to upload or attach documentation you’ll be met with frequent error messages and pages of blank information. The website through any browser is just as bad. This is by far the worst app I’ve used or had the experience of using for as long as I can recall. Makes you wonder what the motivation is behind not improving it.
Customer service. Had a family emergency and needed to access some of my funds and Christine there at the online customer service portal did a fantastic job of getting me to the right places and directions on how to get this done. I wish the funds would have been available next day instead of 3-5 business days, but that was out of her hands! Thank you again Christine
Horrible App. This is such a horrible app to use and I constantly have to login directly to the website to process any reimbursements. I had an available amount to spend, kept trying to process a reimbursement, leave the minimum required amount balance in the account ($25) through the app. I kept getting an error message stating it couldn’t be processed because I needed to leave the required minimum balance in the account which I was. As soon as I logged into the website directly, I was able to complete the transaction. They say download our app for ease of managing your account…..yeah right.
Do they have a QA group?. I am an actual user (not a competitor as another review claims), and this is by far the most incompetently designed and executed app I have ever seen. I submit a claim or two every month, and every time I try to use this app first in hopes they’ve finally fixed it. Yet every month, it’s broken in completely new and “interesting” ways that force me back to the web site yet again. It is obvious nobody at HealthEquity has ever actually used their app and there is no QA being done; they just dump it on the users (trapped by their employer’s choice, which makes the competitor comment bizarre) and let them report what doesn’t work. And for every bug they do eventually fix, they break three more things. Use the web site instead, and from a desktop since it doesn’t work on a tablet/phone any better than the app does. Its workflow is almost as nonsensical, but at least you can actually get things done after a banging your head against the wall enough times.
Just not good. I do not understand how this app is rated so highly. Simple things like capturing receipts and submitting claims just don’t work. Simple workflows are convoluted and buttons look like simple labels. Whomever designs this app either hates their customers or just doesn’t understand good UX design. All of this is applicable if you can even get the app to work. Submitting expenses causes freezes. Eventually it starts to ask you if you want to remain active and even if you say yes it keeps popping up asking. Eventually it logs you out and you lose everything. I haven’t been able to submit one reimbursement via the app. Please spend sometime testing this thing before you push it out for people to use. Folks funds are locked behind this garbage. Do better.
Horrible App Hardly Ever Works. This app is terrible. It has trouble logging in and always tells you that transactions aren’t available and to try again later. It doesn’t notify you that you have transactions that need action, and shows a transaction as green and settled when the website shows a big red exclamation that the same transaction requires action. The Health Equity system also is terrible. I can’t change my password. The UI is terribly unintuitive and has its own problems. Wish my company used something else, because every time I have do anything with this system it makes my want to throw my phone out the window and/or put my fist through my computer.
Confusing to Manage. Functionally, I love using health equity for the investment side of my HSA. For what it’s actually supposed to be used for, (health payments) I find it to be extremely confusing and buggy. It’s not clear how expenses, documentation, claims, payments, and reimbursement actually work together. I’m scared that I won’t have documented a payment/reimbursement correctly and that I’ll face issues with the IRS down the road because of this. The receipt capture part of the app is also not very helpful. When taking pictures of receipts, it ends up trying to crop them in a “square” format that cuts out a significant part of the original image. When have you ever seen a square receipt??? I certainly haven’t ever seen one.
App. I really love this HealthEquity! And using the card is awesome. This is such a nice organized way to track all the HSA payments and contributions made and a nice simple package you know and be able to have that ready for the IRS and for tax deductions. I mean, this is better than you know trying to keep track of receipts and keep punching it in and trying to remember you know to go back-and-forth and waiting for a reimbursement. This is just very easy to use so I really love this app. I really love the debit card that comes with it.
Frequent app freezes. Useless document photo feature.. Edit: Changed the prior one star review below to 5 stars. The latest app update fixes all of the issues below, at long last. Great job! Original Review: The app frequently freezes completely, requiring a restart and re-login. The main reason to use the app versus the desktop website is for convenient uploading of document photos. Unfortunately this functionality is pretty poor. The app only captures a square subset of the photo, and from the camera filter it’s not the part you’d expect. This means you often have to retry a document photo several times to capture the part you want. The photos are aggravatingly stored at a 90 degree rotation, and you can zoom in on them. This bizarre functionality has been politely reported to the developers with no response. Overall Health Equity is a fine service. Fixing the basic app functionality would make it even better.
Worst app ever.. This is the truly the worst app I have ever used. I have had 3 different Flex services before from other providers who were so easy to use, the apps did not have issues. I get constant error messages, the home page freezes and crashes regularly, the provider “search” doesn’t remember information I put in so I have to put it in repeatedly. Some of my providers are childcare individuals who don’t give me an address—that’s a ridiculous mandatory field. The app will email me that my claims have been denied but I can’t see information on the app, must go to website, only for there to be no information and to have received the message in error. The last two reimbursement requests I made after completing all the fields popped up errors. It is an absolutely horrendous app that needs a serious overhaul.
Getting Better. I like the new look of the app. I don’t ever look at reviews that say “worst app ever” or something to that effect. If you’re going to leave a review be constructive and provide actual feedback. The developers can’t do anything with “worst app ever”. The look and feel are nice. I like the popover from the plus button a nice look. I like seeing my total contributions on the main screen. I will take thing here that is frustrating to me. When I get emails from you about my employers contribution or my employee contribution you should have the amounts that were added. I know that has nothing to do with the app, but it’s a frustrating thing for me. I like how much easier and clearer it is to add expenses and look at expenses. Over all nice job.
Clunky and confusing. Like others, I have issues with lists only auto-populating occasionally, leaving me to re-enter provider information for nearly every expense. I also find the app confusing to use. I’ll request a reimbursement, see that the available account balance has been decreased by the amount of the reimbursement request, see that the reimbursement shows as paid under the expense list, see that the reimbursement does NOT appear in the list of completed transactions or pending transactions, and see that if I go to “View Details” for a supposedly- paid claim there are still three active buttons for that expense: “reimburse me”, “pay”, and “mark as closed.” So I never quite know if I’ve entered the information correctly until the money actually shows up in my bank account.
Still has bugs. Two major bugs. When trying to get reimbursed for an expense I have to add a new vendor almost every time even though I’ve input the same vendor repeatedly. On a rare occasion when I search for it, low and behold it’s there but not the next time. Other issue is one expense at the end of the year keeps having an error that says they are trying to fix, been that way for 2 months, still not fixed. Have tried deleting and starting new and still same issue.
Worst App. This App is the worst App I have ever used. Everytime, same thing. Tonight I’ve loaded the App 7 times & have gotten no where. It crash closed itself 3 times. Twice it made it to the main screen & froze for over a minute so I restarted it. Twice it got to the documents screen where I was trying to load a photo, & then it froze for an extended period of time before allowing me to select the image I wanted to upload. When the App is working ‘good’, I have to load the receipts on my phone & then log on to a computer to actually attach the receipts to a claim because the mobile App is such trash you definitely can’t do an entire process in it- unless you want to spend an hour & a half + of your life doing an 8 minute task.
Where can I go downgrade?. Sure the app is prettier, but that is far less important than functionality. This version continues to list unpaid but pending bills as “new unpaid” until i close the app and log in again to fetch data. The payment page also auto-scrolls back up when I click the accept terms check box, then I must scroll down again to remit payment. Finally, maybe you see it as a safety feature, but forcing me to type in the payment amount is just asking for a typo. Give me the option to select full amount like my credit card company payment screens do. Fix this now or start paying customers to be your UX testing team. Horrible customer experience!!!
Going downhill!. Hello, just wanted to drop a note about my experience over the past few months with this app. I used to absolutely love this because I can quickly access all my remaining bills after insurance and pay my doctors from my HRA, HSA etc. but as of late, the app has not been working. I called in for assistance and was told that there is nobody there that actually manages the app and make sure it is updated and working. I find this very odd and concerning. It took until now for my funds for this fiscal year to finally post but I still am not able to actually use those funds from the app to make payments like I have been able to do for the past two years. This is very frustrating! The same guy that told me no one monitors the app suggested I pay at the time of service! No thank you! I want to see the items and what I owe before I pay, it prevents outstanding balances and overpayments. He then said I could pay online with a computer instead of using the app but the funds will still not process, I get an error message every time I submit with a number to call (that I called) with no resolve. Basically be advised, you may not be able to actually use your money. 😔
Garbage app.. Balance shown is incorrect and needs to have a pending transactions section instead if showing nothing until the transaction posts. Also, don’t ask me for documentation and tell me I can upload it to the app when that feature is utterly so buggy! Error pops up when I try to save a document I’m attaching, so it doesn’t attach to the transaction. But then I see duplicate unattached documents in my documents section. When I try to use one of those while attaching to the transaction, it says document is deleted. I miss my old insurance. They never asked me for anything and was just way more convenient all around. I still kept things and was on my honor system with medical expense. This is ridiculous. Fix your system so I don’t feel compelled to violate HIPAA and email it to you.
Super buggy App. The app randomly saves providers I have entered previously and then when I save them for a second or third time the app doesn’t save the provider so I constantly have to add the providers each time I’m looking to do a reimbursement. Secondly I just ran into an issue creating an expense and then seeking reimbursement. The error said I had to have a value over “0”, when I clearly had 114 as the value to be reimbursed. I then tried to save the expense to see if I could come back later but it didn’t even save the expense. Absolutely waste of an app in my opinion. I’ve worked for small start up tech companies who have produced more stable apps than this.
Some technical issues, great customer support!. When I left my job, I wanted to switch over to an individual account. I had some issues adding my bank account so that I could schedule my own contributions, but a call to the customer service quickly resolved that issue. They also switched me to an individual account and reimbursed the admin fee that was connected to having an employee account.
STILL SLOW & $0 in my account WRONG!!!!!. HORRIBLE!!!! WASTE OF MY TIME!!! I just updated to the most current version of the app today. How are your developers able to make the app WORSE than it was BEFORE?! I’ve sent feedback here, through HealthEquity website, on the phone and via email, to please fix the app, it’s been almost 5 years!!! Why can’t you just make the app work? It’s slow, it crashes, and now it tells me my login credentials are wrong (same I use on the website and it works there!), and if I’m even able to login to the app, I try to submit reimbursement, it won’t let me bc it says I have $0 in my FSA for 2024. What?! You have to be kidding me!! This app is and always has been complete GARBAGE!! Your developers have no idea what they’re doing. Hire real developers that can fix this app for goodness sakes!
As bad as the website. I am told I need documentation for my expenses, but finding the place to upload and attach them is all but impossible on both the site and the app. When I finally find it, it doesn't work. Sometimes I find expenses that require documentation but I was never notified about it, and on one list it says approved, no problem, but on another page is says it needs documents. I cannot figure out how to use this account. I'm just going to pay for my medical expenses and if they have a problem with it, come find me and I'll give them my documents and they can upload them to their own d*** files. I sure as h*** can't figure it out.
Worked fine until it didn’t.. I had the app for a couple of years. All of a sudden it started giving me a message about a server maintenance and says app is not available at the time. I have not been able to log in in weeks, I have removed the app multiple times, restarted the phone also multiple times, but nothing worked. When I would first open it after reinstall meant it would give me a log in screen for a split second and then goes into the “server maintenance” screen. Unfortunately, the company has no technical support that one can talk to, so I have submitted “a request “ but they said they will email with a response … will see what happens …
Incredibly frustrating. I cannot express enough hope much I dread this app. Receipts must be attached to every transaction (which is ridiculous when the card emails me every time my insurance is used, whether the card was used or not... you would think they could just match things up), but that’s fine. Except that every time I tap “attach document” the app closes itself out and I have to log back in and try again. I have about six transactions I need to attach receipts to today, and I’ve logged in 7 times and only been able to attach one. I guess since they have all the power in the relationship—because if we don’t attach the receipts, they’ll just shut out cards down, and since our company chooses the FSA host so we cannot just change to a better one—they don’t feel any incentive to improve this for us. Seriously frustrating.
Numerous Bugs in Latest Update. The app is riddled with bugs and performance issues in the latest update. Will not function. Had to change passwords 3 times. Validation texts fail to confirm! Popup locks up the app and renders it unusable without hard stop and relaunch. Apple password fails to populate and you have to manually type it in. This needs fixed immediately and would recommend pushing back the update to an earlier revision. Enough is enough and several of us are asking for corporate for reconsideration of this platform/company for managing our HSA. It’s constant IT issues that and never get fixed they do not have dedicated knowledgable personnel to prevent these issues in the first place. Should be zero star.
Incorrect Available to Spend Amount. I tried to pay my dentist bill after my procedure but it was declined. The app said there were insufficient funds. But according to the ‘Available to spend’ amount there was sufficient funds. When I got home I logged into the HealthEquity website. The ‘Available to spend’ amount was $50 less than what the app was showing. I opened the app again and it was still showing $50 more than the website. If the app can’t show me the correct amount it’s useless.

Usually reliable and convenient. It’s very useful. You can easily pay your provider or reimburse yourself. The app gatherers information from your visit, so you don’t have to waste time scanning or uploading poorly-taken pictures from your phone as records. However, the recent update seems to get stuck on the pay provider page. The app stops scrolling, and you cannot access the button to send the payment. Please take a look. It’s easily repeated.
Very buggy. I’ve been trying to upload a receipt for a claim. Every time I try to, it says Ive exceeded my limit of documents that can be uploaded (80). I only have about 20 documents total uploaded. I went in and deleted a bunch of them. Still the same error message. I figured out another way to upload the document first. But when I go to attach it to the claim by clicking “attach” it returns the message “document successfully deleted” in bright happy green. The document has not been deleted, but there’s no indication that it has been attached to the claim. And the best part is the claim that I paid with the app isn’t showing on the website, so I can’t provide documentation that way either.
No functionality. I rarely write bad reviews but was inspired to do so by the inability to successfully submit any claims for reimbursement. Reimbursement failed emails the next day with no explanation of why despite attaching receipts to request. Four days in a row. The browser site appears infinitely better with more options and information but I have yet to see if I’ll be able to get paid via that interface either. Absolute garbage. I am not pleased with the new HSA provider Healthequity. Feels like a scam at this point. I never had any issues with the prior provider. Fingers crossed the browser site functions.
Second time reviewing. I didn’t think this app could get any worse. It was already the absolute worst app I have ever used in my entire life, but now it has somehow gotten even worse. I can only login in once and it repeatedly asks me to set up a passkey, which I have done at least 15 times now, but it never persists. Then when the app crashes when I seek reimbursement, it says I can’t use a passkey but that I need a government ID to register…. I don’t think I have ever been so enraged by a piece of technology in my life. I honestly hate this app, but since it is my only option from my company, I am forced to use it.
IMPOSSIBLE. The login for the app requires a passkey. I have been going in circles to get the passkey to work. Nothing works! As a test, I logged in on my desktop computer to see if I could create a passkey. Easy-peasy, no problems there. So I tried logging into the website from my phone rather than the app, NO GOOD. It requires me to use the app to create a passkey on my phone. So now, I’m back to endless circles and failed attempts. The app is crucial to knowing whether I can use the HSA card to pay for medical appointments on the spot, because I need to verify available funds. I hope someone will read this review and fix the madness on the passkey requirement and endless circles of failed attempts.
User experience unacceptable. Since our company moved from Benefit Wallet to HealthEquity, my experience has been consistently frustrating and unnecessarily difficult. I’ve reached the point where I avoid using the HealthEquity app altogether and simply treat reimbursements as a loss when I have to use my personal card, because the process is that painful. For almost two years, I have avoided submitting reimbursements through the app due to the excessive and unnecessary requirements. The reimbursement workflow forces users to manually enter a ton of required fields that are completely irrelevant to getting reimbursed—such as tracking down and entering a provider’s full address, phone number, and other details that add no value and create pure friction. A simple amount, provider name and date with optional documentation upload (if I want to track this) should be all that’s needed. This is not user-friendly; it’s user-hostile. Today, I made the mistake of trying again. The app repeatedly errored out with a vague “try again later” message. No explanation. No guidance. Just failure. After wasting time troubleshooting, I ultimately spent over an hour on the app and on the phone just trying to get access to my own HSA money This raises a serious question: Why is HealthEquity making it so difficult to access funds that are legally the account holder’s? An HSA administrator’s job is to simplify healthcare finances—not create barriers, delays, and frustration. This experience is unacceptable for a financial services platform handling healthcare dollars. If this is the intentional design direction—burdening users with unnecessary data entry, unreliable app behavior, and time-consuming support calls—then HealthEquity should expect to lose business. Healthcare is already complicated. Accessing your own HSA money should not be.
Worst App in the Industry. Everything about this experience (supposedly improved) is a disaster. After a grueling reimbursement experience last year, this year I uploaded my expenses as they happened, filling out all the required information for each expense in real time. But when I try to get reimbursed for them, the app fails to show me how to do it in bulk, and even when I try and do it individually there’s no way to approve the reimbursement. I’m just lost on a screen unable to do anything but move backward. The website isn’t much better. I just learned you don’t have to have your HSA at the bank your employer picks! Switching banks tomorrow!
Terrible app. Every time I use this APP to complete a task, it doesn't work. It doesn't all me to attach documents to my claims. When trying to attach a document and save it, I get a message that says the document has been successfully deleted. When I try to add documents, I get a message that says I have more than 80 documents, so I must delete some to save additional documents, though I have already done that and have ZERO documents saved. I don't have ANY of these issues when using my laptop. All the features work. It's less convenient, but certainly less aggravating! I deleted the APP.
Fairly useless in seeing how the how the account is doing
not a functional app. “App” is extremely buggy and includes dead-ends when trying to upload documentation and attach them to required expenses. Should not be pushing people to use your “app” when these features do not work properly. Thankfully I was able to figure out how to on the desktop version within my mobile browser, but I know a lot of people using your plan will not know that is an option when you push them to use your “app”. Customer service rep I talked to seemingly did not know the difference between the app layout and the mobile desktop layout using a browser which is a whole other problem.
Best Debit Card. This card not only comes in handy for copays but if the doctor office or pharmacy you go to doesn’t accept this card then to submit for a reimbursement with your receipt from your own personal debit card is so easy. You get the money back fast and in full. They also have an online store that you can use the debit card on for health personal care such as acne cream, back pain patches, vitamins and more
You guys can access the app?. I have never successfully logged into this app on the first day of trying. Every attempt ends in a lockout. The password requirements are absurdly complex, and to make matters worse, there appear to be multiple separate login portals (EZ Receipts, WageWorks, HealthEquity) with no clear guidance on which one actually applies to you. It feels like the app was designed to keep you out of your own money. For a service that’s supposed to simplify healthcare spending, the fact that basic access is this broken is unacceptable. A few times a year I need this app urgently and every single time it fails me. Negative stars if I could. I have no idea how this has 4.7 stars.
Worst App. This App is the worst App I have ever used. Everytime, same thing. Tonight I’ve loaded the App 7 times & have gotten no where. It crash closed itself 3 times. Twice it made it to the main screen & froze for over a minute so I restarted it.
Passkey is a TRASH feature. Ever since HelathEquity started using passkeys as a REQUIREMENT.. I have to go through so much hassle to log in. For the first several months I wasn’t allowed to log in at all without having my passkey set up.. kicker is, I would set it up on my iPhone 16 ProMax (fully updated software) and it still would not log me in. I went through trouble shooting with customer support staff multiple times who all said they’d escalate it. One person said they’d call me back and never did. I’ve not heard a single peep about my issues being escalated.. now I’m required to use my ID to log into view my account EVERY TIME. God forbid my ID gets lost/stolen or I simply don’t have it on me. PLEASE get rid of passkeys being a requirement just to login.
Crashed out. Went in circles for hours trying to login. Can’t login without a pass key, pass key setup failed, locked account, called , got account unlocked. Pass key worked then credentials failed, changed my password, got locked out, waited for unlock, changed credentials, was routed back to required passkey, passkey failed, pass key failed again, locked out. Called again, deleted and redownloaded the app, still failing to create passkey and locked out again. An endless loop of not working and I am 100% confident that everything I’m inputting is correct. It’s been hours and I just need my tax forms 😭
Cannot pay provider. This app used to be wonderful, but it has gone downhill in recent years. The biggest frustration is the inability to pay the provider. The option technically exists, but you can’t scroll down and adjust the information nor submit it. I do not know if it is true across all devices, but at least for iPhones this app is a big failure. Other features are still good, including monitoring what you’ve already done directly through the website.
Passkey requirement terrible. Have not been able to set up passkey on app - general error, no explanation or alternative. From desktop, can set up passkey but goes to blank screen after login. Don’t rollout technology that doesn’t work and prevents account access. There is also ZERO customer support for these issues - rep from phone number called tells me to call the number I just called. Seriously?! They open a ticket but can’t confirm they opened the ticket - not via email, text. I had to write down the support ticket number. Then no one contacts you to acknowledge there is any investigation into the issue. Again, don’t roll out technology that doesn’t work and cannot support.
What happened?. I used to like this app, but their redesign is so so so awful. Seriously, please fix it. I actively dread having to open the app now. Not only is it insanely slow, but the whole expenses section is incredibly confusing, and you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to view your card transactions, which is all I’m trying to do 90% of the time when I login to the app. Really, is there a single human out there who logs into the app to view each individual stock trade in their HSA investment account more often than their card transactions? Next time try taking to actual users.
Like this app. I have been using HealthEquity app for few years now, and I love it. Over the years, the app has gotten better with minor changes. I like the fact that I can manage and request reimbursement and it’s fairly easy to use. But it can be further improved, for example, I should be able to modify it once I have created an expense report.
Very patient and helpful account representative. Foottech in Lubbock, TX was not able to use my HSA card to purchase a much needed orthopedix insole. I talked to a Health Equity representative which was extremely patient and kind to explain the reimbursement process. I just wanted you know of his good work although I don’t recall his name, hopefully your records will lead you to him and he’ll be notified of a job well done. Bruce Maddox, Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas
This App (& company) is GARBAGE!. Multiple errors- I have attempted to start reimbursement claims for multiple prescriptions and have to add the SAME provider MULTIPLE times because it NEVER saves!! Waste of time! It will SOMETIMES add/ attach my documents and other times it doesn’t. I tried to save my work, time, and document pictures and it gives me an ERROR message and says try again later. Typical insurance company making paying customers jump through hoops to submit data just to come back and say you didn’t give them what they needed to reimburse you YOUR money! Oh yeah, sorry if you don’t use it you lose it! SCAMMERS I would attach pictures of the errors I’m getting but there is no option for someone to actually show proof of this garbage app.
Adding documentation, bugs everywhere!. Can’t upload documenattion because I’ve “reached my limit of 80 files and need to delete some or attach them to expenses”. I’ve uploaded one document, so not sure how that can be the case. Then after multiple attempts, there’s suddenly several copies of the file I was attempting to upload in the unattached folder. So I try to attach on of those to the expense and get a message that says the file was “successfully deleted” (but it’s still there). Seems like trying to attach a file only results in this message being shown. Extremely buggy. Guess I’ll try again later…
Terrible app. Besides always crashing their app requires security questions to reset password. Well, guess what? They reset your password every other month without your knowledge. How do I know? I have same password saved in my phone and once every couple months it doesn’t work to access my account, so I FORCED to request password change. Now that’s where all the fun begins - after year of using this app I forgot how I entered my security questions and now I have to spend time calling them waiting for the security questions reset. What a stupid outdated system. Whoever decided it’s a good idea to”security” addition is wrong and should take more courses in cyber security and UI/UX design.
To many issues. The app is very problematic and you aren’t able to actually use it for a lot of things that you would want the app for you can still use those features on the website but this almost makes the app useless really and it currently is just that as it won’t even let me open the app because it says I have a MiTM threat and that I need to switch networks and close and reopen the app I have done this as well as checked my security via apple as well as Norton and neither show any risks so not sure what the problem is but it isn’t my phone it’s the app again.
Pure security trash. They force everyone to ONLY use passkeys which is good for security. Unfortunately they don’t test it much as 90 percent of the time the app continually thinks I have not setup a passkey even though I have done it 4 times! It can’t seem to figure it out. Can’t even use the website because it forces you to approve the login from the app which then wants you to setup another new passkey! Junk. My only guess is it may have a problem with 3 rd party passkey providers like 1password and Bitwarden, etc… again no thorough testing. Just user annoyance. Optum was just as secure but 100 times more reliable and better user experience. If you have a choice go with Optum.
FIX THE CONSTANT PASSKEY PROMPTS!!!!. The app used to be super convenient, now every time I log in I have to go a create a new passkey on the same device I always use. Only to be greeted by a message the says “… thanks for creating a passkey, next time you log in will be more convenient and secure…” blah blah blah. Except the truth is you have to create a passkey… again… and again… if you going to force people to create a passkey to log in, at least have the decent programming courtesy to figure out how to configure your servers to recognize a device/user that already has a passkey (or 12) enabled WAYYY before forcing that authentication method onto your users.
Garbage. Whoever is leading tech for these guys needs to be fired immediately. The passkey thing is annoying as hell for starters. I’m in tech and I am nerdy enough to deal with it, but once I log in there is some release notes popup that extends off the page and cannot be closed in any way that I have found, I assume the “ok” button is somewhere off the page and the page doesn’t scroll. So I can’t actually get to the actual app to use it. It’s been like this for way too long for their dev team to have done absolutely nothing about it. Maybe if you have a large enough phone screen or a iPad it might work for you. Not on my iPhone 13 Pro.
5 years still bad. The app has gotten quicker over the years, but the design is still poor. To go Expenses - new expense. Fill out the required fields such as total expense and provider, date of service, expense type, and recipient. Then try to scroll down and you can’t. I figured it out though…either use one finger to scroll by swiping on the date of service fields (it won’t work if you swipe anywhere else) or use 2 fingers to swipe. Hey, I got an iphone15 without that big of a screen area. If you don’t have a physical device to QA, get one. Or maybe just have your company use your app and report problems so your customers aren’t telling you what they are.
Horrible Experiences. Health Equity sends my email a notification that they are moving away from passwords, and starting to use pass keys in the near future. I then go to login to see if I can set up my pass key where I am notified that my email address doesn’t exist, even though I just received an email to that email address. On top of that, the web of dress that they use is WageWorks, which my phone doesn’t recognize the difference between the two so I have to go through my passwords in order to get past the authentication page while remembering that I’m looking for WageWorks and not Health Equity. All of this just to have my receipts rejected EVERY SINGLE TIME
Still has bugs.
As Buggy as it is Mandatory. This provider’s website is completely unusable. The app is mandatory simply to access the website on a PC which is where I prefer to do my transactions. It’s been months and I still can’t access my expenses to attach receipts. Things like medication are fine without additional documentation but therapy sessions and doctors appointments are a very different story. User interface involving pop ups of text boxes makes it impossible to see. I have to screenshot receipts in the mail app and upload the photo. Setting up the app, passkey, and signing in was also a nightmare that took multiple attempts.
