MOST AMAZING FUN GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED. I literally never write reviews because i hate it and think it’s a waste of time but I am writing this review now because I need need NEED more episodes. Please please and I know I’m speaking on the behalf of so many people who agree with me that I will beg and grovel and cry for you guys to release more episodes. I literally don’t even care if there’s a plot like the one now I honestly just love the way the game is set up and the interactive feature of it. Literally my favorite thing ever and so clever. I WILL PAY SO MUCH MONEY FOR MORE EPISODES PLEASE !!!!!!!!!

Great Game. The art is beautiful, and the storytelling is interesting and unique, which is more or less expected from a Professor Layton game. The only negatives I have is that the clunky investigation system makes some clues hard to spot, and the Prof does a lot of hand holding in the beginning. But overall, buying the full game is totally worth it.

Inane.. I'm a longtime fan of the Layton series on DS, and this port just didn't do it for me. Kudos to them for mixing it up rather than trying to maintain the high standards, but while I enjoyed the murder-mystery setup, the way they did it put me off. I dislike games that hold my hand. That say "CLICK HERE!, NOW HERE!" with big cartoony bouncing arrows. I would much prefer to be dumped into a crime scene and left to look for clues on my own. THAT'S a puzzle game! Not this. The clues are LITERALLY CIRCLED. Like if Highlights had a crime scene magazine. If you're going to spoon-feed me the information on this text-fest, just go ahead and tell me whodunnit, too. Boring. Deleted.

If not loading delete!. After the recent update the app wouldn't load for me. All I had to do was delete than load it again for it to run. With the music I had been missing. Great game. Good story. Worth the 5 bucks for the whole thing. Enjoy playing!

Decent. The game is pretty good overall. However, I’m not such a big fan of the light racism and stereotypical dialogue in Case No. 4. Please be aware of this if you’re going to purchase the extra cases. I wouldn’t have spent the money if I had known I’d be bombarded with errant punctuation marks and grammar mistakes, just because one of the characters is from somewhere in South America.

Absolutely Incredible. Such a fun game! Each case is self contained (up until the last 2-3), but weaves in a narrative leading up to the end which makes sense. Definitely worth the $3-5 you spend on unlocking all the other cases...I just want more!

LOVE. This is the only other review I've written on iTunes. This game is awesome. Fun, exciting music, a gripping storyline, and lovable characters. Mystery Room fits very well in the Layton universe & this is coming from a 10 year Layton fan. Hey, Level-5! Please make us a sequel! I'll throw a whole bank at you if I must.

Please, make a sequel! I’m begging you! Seriously!. This game may be old, but by god is it amazing! I love the twists, turns and suspense packed into this app! It hooks onto you and makes you wanna play it again and again! It’s too good not to make a sequel for! One little thing though, when you accidentally skip past a piece of text, you can’t go back but honestly that’s okay! Anyway, sequel, please?

Cute, but way too easy/linear. Wouldn’t particularly recommend for experienced or hardcore mystery genre enthusiasts. Holds your hand through all of the cases, and none of them are that tricky to begin with outside of the game simply withholding information. In all of the cases except for the very end of the last one, they circle all of the clues for you to find, you don’t have to work at all. No consequences for being wrong at any point. Alfendi usually hands you the answer a couple of minutes in, regardless of the choices you make. But, super cute artwork and character design in the typical Layton series fashion. Characters are a bit one-dimensional. And a sweet concluding scene.

Well, you sure showed me!. Here, I had voiced complaints about the music not working and the app being broken in general. With this recent update however, I'm happy to rate this four out of five stars. The only issue encounter came with the game not opening after the recent update, which was easily solved by deleting and re-downloading the app. From here on out, it's only mysteries and cool jazz. Thanks for listening Level-5! Good update!

Love the game but can’t continue. So I absolutely love this game and would of given it five stars, but it’s having issues with connecting to the iTunes Store. At first I thought it was the WiFi but when I got home it still wouldn’t connect. I really wanna continue playing cause the story already has me captured.

delicious. What can i say this game was summat terrific! i loved the northern english used in the game, the dialogue was so well built i could nearly hear the characters speaking to me. the mystery element of the game has been thoroughly and accurately discussed in the other five star ratings, although i was expecting to really see hershel at the ending of the game, and justin's motive along with what really gave Alfendi his placid persona. BUT WHAT MAKES UP FOR THESE SHORTCOMINGS IS THE MUSIC!! The music in layton games is always incredible but this one just takes the cake. It is beautiful and exquisite. It's always a delight working with a Layton, innit?

New version won't open. This game is FANTASTIC and I highly recommend it. The only problem is that the newest version has been crashing on me, and now it just won't open at all. If that issue gets fixed, I will be right back up to 5 stars, 6 if it were possible.

We need a new game. It’s trilling, amazing, and beautifully made I won’t go on and on about how amazing the game is because it’s shows in the game I’ve just been waiting for a years for a new one to come so please make a new one

Keeps Me Interested!. The thing I love about this game is well everything. The music is great, the plot brought forward new ways to keep me interested and involved with the characters, and I truly enjoyed trying to connect pieces of evidence to each suspect. Not only that but the characters while a bit archetypical didn’t get annoying. The finally itself I felt was satisfying and truly surprised me with where the plot was going.

Update Help. I absolutely love this app. The cases, sound effects, the music. For those having issues with the recent update: if you delete the app and re-download it it will open and play the music 😃😃

Slow paced, repetitive, and unlikable character. The girl you play as lacks any confidence or common sense. As soon as the criminal says something back the girl retracts and is flustered and must wait for prof to come to her rescue. This gets old quick. Prof has to be the one to figure anything out even though I’ve found all the evidence, pointed out the killer, and understood the methods. But no! The girl get confused and wait for the prof to help us! 🙄🙄 I enjoy looking at the crime scene, figuring out little tricks and clues. But it ends there, the game forces you to “play”(tapping through repetitive dialogues and clues that you’ve already found!) for another 20minutes before the prof solves case for you.

Music is Back!. Layton Brothers: Mystery Room is an excellent, story-driven game. Compared to other Layton games, it plays more like a visual novel and definitely has a different style (don't be expecting puzzles), but that does not make it a bad game at all. The characters are well-developed, the cases are terrific, and the overarching plot keeps players coming back for more. If the first few free cases interest you at all, it's well worth spending a mere $5 for the rest of the story. There was a bug that kept the background music from playing, but the team fixed it shortly after I contacted them! I'm glad to have the music back; it just wasn't the same without that sweet jazz. Oh, and I'm dying for a sequel. (Please!!)

Newest Update - crashes on start. Updated because the music was supposed to work again but now the app doesn't open on my device. The game itself however is great, one of my favorites Edit: redownloading the app causes it to work again, although your save data is gone but playing it again is fun

Amazing!. This is the first time I’m ever writing a review because of how genuinely impressed I am with this game. I’ve been looking for this particular type of mystery game for the longest time—something that doesn’t only deal with “finding” the clues at a crime scene, but also weaving them into a plausible theory. I absolutely love, love, love this game and would definitely be willing to buy it if there’s a sequel. Well done!

AMAZING. I was curious in the little 10th anniversary sequel that exists, but I wanted to experience the original games first, so I downloaded this. Normally I don't like games that give you a few levels free and make you pay for the rest, but this practically ate up my wallet. The only reason I took off a star was because there were some parts of levels that were really hard, and I had to look up how to solve them which I really don't like having to do, but other than that, this is absolutely amazing and worth the extra money.

Its like if Ace Attorney was actually fun. As if the sheer amount of times the Professor proved how much better he was than Phoenix in “Professor Layton Vs Phoenix Wright” wasn’t enough, here comes his son to star in a game that does everything Ace Attorney ever did a million times better. My only complaint is that Level-5 is no longer publishing games over here. C’mon guys, your sales weren’t THAT bad, were they?

Love the game, but.... Before the most recent update, I was able to play the game. Now though, the game crashes every time I open it. Would appreciate it if the problem was fixed.

You NEED to do a sequel!!!. This is probably my favorite detective/mystery solving game, so much so that it made me start to question my career choice before going to college (detective is a nice title...). PLEASE MAKE A SEQUEL, now that I’ve finished the game I don’t know what to do with my life. I just think that so many people want it, and because you left yourself the room to do so, it would be an advantageous move for your company I’m still holding out for you guys, please think of your fans :)

Much needed update, but need to fix graphics. Thank you SO MUCH to the developers for fixing the music and filling in the blank spaces. That was really bothering me past few years. The only kink I've noticed with this update is that the graphics faltered drastically in quality. The characters are all pixelated. Please fix, it's hard to look at.

Finished Playing and I'm Satisfied. Seriously, this game is one of the better games out there with its well thought out cases and the loveable main characters. I actually felt satisfied yet sad to finish it since I was hooked into this game. Play the game it's worth paying for!

Get it. It’s good I didn’t buy but the free episodes you play are fun and completely different from any other games I’ve seen for phones in this sector. Just try it and enjoy.

Absolutely amazing. Now I Haven’t played through the full game, but the stuff I’ve played through has been wonderful, it’s so exiting when you’re just about to crack a case, or when you’re finding new evidence this game is one of the best you can get on the App Store. I would pay money for this, but the fact that’s free is great

mmmmMmmmmMmMMMMMMM. This game was absolutely amazing. The way the stories drew me in, and how each character was a unique individual with perfect imperfections, and imperfect perfections, all leading up to some of the greatest characters I have encountered thus far in a mystery game. I truly hope you make a second one - as , trust me, I'd be more than willing to buy it. However, one question remains, the one presented from the start, that's truly irking me. "That fateful night, when I was lost..." Yadda yadda, something along those lines , "When he killed me." THAT line, at the very start, stole my already suffering attention span. Who could be saying this? I'm making a guess that it might be Lucy, and will remain unsolved until further notice - or , it could be Diane, as she had died. All I do know is that there, in that cutscene, is a very shady Professor Alfendi. In all honesty, I hope your team will bring about another game (or two, or three..!) to wrap this suspense with a bow. I'll be sure to get the rest of your games, now, as I know the quality content in store. I just hope I see more of your content (and mystery brothers cough cough) in the future.

Best game ever. My mom and I played this game many years ago and it was my favorite game ever. I think about this game all the time, I love all the characters and the mysteries and the way the game is set up. It’s perfect, I wish they would still update the game though. I miss playing new levels. I’m not kidding if they made more of these with the exact same gameplay and style I would buy it. Please make more of these!!!!

There should be a sequel.. There are so many things at the end that are left unanswered! I’ve played through the game four times and, in all honesty, it is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Ever. The cases are worth the money. The visuals are astounding, and the music is memorable! I think we’d all pay money for a sequel.

Crashing is only problem. This game is one of the best of its kind that I have ever played. However, after the most recent update, I can no longer get into the app as it keeps crashing. Excellent game, otherwise.

great game！. I was really enjoying it but hopefully the developer could provide official Chinese language update for these, the word choices in the game is too strange for me as who doesn’t take English as my first language and that takes me so long for finish reading the text. It’s a nice game with no doubt and it should be known by more ppl!

Amazing and imaginative. I've seen those cases or similar ones on case closed the anime, but its more fun to be involved its detailed and interesting with the storyline I just wish it was a longer game or there was a sequel I enjoyed it that much...... Coming back to my review on this game years later I still reply it from time to time really wish they would make another game like this with a CSI ish murder mystery theme ...... To interactively solve a murder it's too fun ......... Please make more!!!!!

I always come back to this game. I’ve purchased and played this game 3 different times. Such a memorable game after many years, it still holds up. Top 3 apps I’ve ever played.

Honestly my favorite app ever. I seldom go to purchase things but god there’s just something about being able to look around the crime scene and solve the murder the way this app presents it that I absolutely love. Of course it’s not a traditional puzzles and brain teasers kind of Layton game and those who mistake this app for that kind of game most likely leave 4:5 stars but god this might just be even better. Mystery fanfic such as myself can’t help but give into the thrill *^*

Silence. Would be nice if they FINALLY fixed the sound issues with the now not-so-new iOS update. Update: My god, they finally fixed it. I can play this wonderful game again with full sound. Thank you!!!

So boring.. This game has WAY too much dialog, and tells you where to click and has no puzzle aspects at all. Even when I’m asked to select a suspect, it immediately tells me “No”, and then proceeds to make me click through a ridiculous dialog exchange. There’s so much hand holding it makes me want to scream. A real puzzle mystery game will open with a crime scene and allow the gamer to search and discover on their own. Don’t waste your time, money, or storage space on this game.

The only game I've ever spent money on. Suspenseful, intriguing, and beautiful. Each character is beautifully written and created with their own flaws. There isnt a single badly written character, case, or storyline in the game. And it's not just about the cases. There's an ongoing mystery within the Mystery Room itself, along with the rest of the Yard. It is more than worth it to spend the $5 on the two case packs, as the cases get more difficult, more intriguing, and more shocking as you progress. Definitely give the Mystery Room a try, because even though it's not your typical Layton-and-Luke puzzle solving adventure, it's still so much fun.

Best mystery game ever. I got this game when it was new, and it was so much fun I have been looking for something like it ever since. I’m still looking in 2022 and I haven’t found another that’s this good!

Why isn’t there a sequel?. At last I’ve played through the whole of the game. I don’t recommend it to kids, as it can be graphic. The nutty professor is a rather violent sounding character. However, I love stories, and I also love mysteries. I did have fun playing this game, but the ending was so unsatisfying. The story was left wide open for a sequel, but this game is kind of old by now. I would like to put in a request for a sequel even now. I think Level 5 does some great work, and they would do well to make a sequel to this game. Recommended for adults, not children.

Great detective game. Unlike the other Layton games that are filled with logic puzzles, the Layton Brothers is a wonderful mystery game that requires you to observe a crime scene, make deductions, and identify a murderer in multiple different case files. If you enjoy mystery detective shows, this app is a must-have.

Have to write it here. I have to write this here because I need to buy the mysterious puzzle box to write a review on it, but it was a fantastic game on the ds when I played it. All the professor laton game I’ve played have been. I’ve been waiting for it to come to mobile for a bit now, and am glad you have made it to this market. Once you get to one of the games I don’t already own I’ll be hard pressed not to buy them.

Spectacular. I absolutely love the new spin on the prof. Layton series. Taking a more serious approach, dealing with murders instead of random mysteries like, "This town is pretty weird. Come check it out." Or "This box is kinda neat, it kills people though. Go to this town and investigate plz." (No hate to original Layton. The games are top notch). But yeah the game is fun. Just wish I didn't have to pay $5 to get the full game.

Worth the time and 5 dollars. I was introduced to the Prof. Layton series back whenever I had a DS and absolutely loved the games. This game is no different. I love the story that every case gives you and the amazing personalities of all the different characters. This game has so many twists and turns that even when I think I have figured it out, it slaps me right across the face with a plot twist. I had no problem with chucking up only 5 dollars to play more of this amazing game and hope to see a sequel in the future.

Delete the app and re download. I was so excited when I saw there was an update for this game! Now my music is back! I also had issues booting the game up after the update, but if you delete it and re download it will work like a charm. Happy mystery solving!

Crashes after load screen. I downloaded the game's update so it can play audio, but when I start the game it crashes after the very first loading screen. The game is still open when you view all of your open apps and has the tap-to-start menu on display, but when you jump back into the game it will still have the load screen and will repeat with the crash. I am playing LBMR on ISO 10.3.2.

Get it right now.. I love this game more than words can properly convey. The mysteries are fun to solve and certainly quite challenging at times, which is what I can confidently say we all love about the original games. Speaking of which: it plays more like Phoenix Wright than a typical Layton game, but it works well in this instance. I'm not completely finished with the game yet, but I'm hooked on the overarching mystery (which I won't spoil)! Do keep in mind that the full version will set you back $5, by the way, though it's worth every penny.

Engaging and thrilling!. This game has my favorite style of investigative gameplay: forensic investigation followed by a logic test in the form of questions. It has a very subtle way of putting on the pressure when no one’s checking your answers later on. The music and atmosphere and characters are all great, too. If you’re a fan of Layton lore, this game is an excellent supplement to the Layton experience. It takes you on all sorts of twists and turns and left my biting my nails over certain conflicts. Wish there were more!

Amazing. I don't know how people could call this app "boring" because while I was playing I would get so excited to see how that certain case would end, it's incredible how it was thought out so well, I would have to recommend this to players that love mysteries, investigating and most of all reading because that is a major part in this game and that's not bad at all. This app is quite the adventure if I say so myself and all the haters are probably mad to say that this game is bad because this is the best game I have ever played and I only hope that you add more packs to this game because I am willing to pay for another adventure that will keep me excited the entire way through. Ps. Can you make it work for the new update?

Fantastic.. It plays and looks great. The detective work is the same, like previous works from this developer. The game runs smoothly on an iPad 2 with iOS 9. Impressive, for what the game offers: a rarity in the current app store. It's concerning that newer devices and firmware have problems, however. Other reviewers can't even start the game.

Cracking detective adventure. Takes the best bits of the DS Prof Layton games (characters, plot, dialogue) and the best bits of the Ace Attorney games (hunting for clues, drawing conclusions) and combines them together into a satisfying whole that kept me happily sleuthing for several days. Definitely worth the two in-app purchases to unlock the additional cases and complete the story - all up it took just under nine hours. More case files or a sequel would be a fine thing!

Took money and never gave files. Purchased the first case file pack a few weeks ago and they took my money but the extra case files never appeared. Contacted the company the day after and still no response. There’s no other way to contact than via their site which obviously isn’t being monitored or they simply don’t care. I want my money back 😡

The Mystery Room. The Mystery Room is an extraordinary game. It challenges you to think of possible conclusions to figure out the puzzles. It has great graphics, gameplay and even the story. I would definitely buy the full game. Also don't listen to the other reviews which say "it's just speech bubbles and not a game. They clearly don't know how to play the game.

Great job!. This game was really enjoyable and I loved the artwork design. Unlike the other Layton games, it doesn't have any puzzles. You investigate crime scenes and work out 'who done it'. It is a great game to play if you are waiting for the next Layton game or just would like some fun challenges. Like other Layton games it has quite a bit of speech, but unless you get really annoyed by that, it doesn't ruin anything about this great game.

A must play game. I played this game in 2013. Played it again in 2019 and it’s still as amazing as it was back then. Please release the next one!! Have been waiting ages!

Great, but could be better. The game is interesting, the cases are intriguing, and the graphics are great for an ipad game. I really did like it, but it's not challenging at all. There is no possible way to fail. If you make a mistake you are just prompted to retry and eventually you'll stumble across the right answer. There is also a LOT of reading. It's mostly necessary information, all stuff that is essential to the storyline, as well as some funny one liners. However, it would capture your attention more if it had voice overs. The storyline is interesting, with a twist that carries through the entire game, making want to finish the game. I would have given it a 3 star rating, but I feel like that would be doing it an injustice. It has the potential to be a 5 star game, but the creators need to introduce some challenges. The characters alone deserve 4 stars. If you stick with the game and purchase the remaining cases you'll form a small attachment with these multifaceted characters. It's a great introduction to the Layton series and I'd love a second game, as long as it was a challenging second game.

One quick question. This game is amazing! I have fallen in love with the story line and the characters. There is just one problem. I have paid for the rest of the story up until the last case, but (SPOILERS) when I reach prof tied up and holdings pistol in the last case, and Lucy asks who that is on the floor, the game crashes and goes back to the iPhone screen. I am very sad because I don't know what to do and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they solved it. Thankyou!

A must If you are a Layton fan.. I have read some of the reviews for this game and they just rate it bad because of the speech bubbles and that If you are a proper fan of the professor layton series you must know that there will be a lot of text because your solving a mystery without voices. I was anticipating the release of this game for quite a bit of time and now it is released There isn't anything really bad about it except it should be advertised as a visual novel instead of a game. You don't have to play the DS games to get this but it is a recommendation that you do before you play this. This is a great mystery "game" and I do recommend this too all Layton fans. plus its only 5 bucks to get the rest of the cases!

Amazing!. I really love this game!!!! I bought all the levels and completed the game! It's really awesome but there are only a few tiny problems. Some of the deaths are pretty gruesome, i had to keep this game away from my little brother at all costs! Also the prices of unlocking the rest of the levels, it should be about $1.99 for all the levels. But overall really fun game! Love it! 🌟

A good game that's missing something. As much as I enjoyed solving the mysteries and playing through this game in it's entirety it bothers me that the motive is very rarely explored. Some cases provide a satisfactory epilogue, but I don't know why more than half of these murders occur and apparently that doesn't matter. For a game so carefully crafted with attention to detail, this seems like a glaring omission. Still, it is a highly entertaining puzzler and well worth playing.

Incredibly Game. I’m a big fan of the Professor Layton series and have played all the original games multiple times, and to say this game floored me would be a massive understatement. It’s such a lively, enjoyable game, and I had fun sitting up to all hours in the dark playing through the cases each night. Each case is unique and creative, and I loved the thrill of piecing together the evidence to try and figure out who the murderer was. It was always so satisfying to see the clues all come together to shatter an alibi. The characters where amazing, they all had personality and charm, and it was very obvious that the creators spent time making them feel like real people rather than just pixels on a screen, much like the original series. I also adored Alfendi's "darker side" and the way Lucy and the others began to act around him, becoming used to him and essentially incorporating him into their lives and cases. I loved the story behind Al's change, and getting to see so much of his split personalities throughout the whole game was a welcome change from other games, where the "second half" is barely seen, often used as just a small plot point and then discarded. I’m just disappointed that the game doesn't have a sequel. I can understand that the way it was left allows it to be open to the played, for what they choose to imagine happens next, but I think the fans, as a whole, would love a little bit of closure, and if not that then definitely more cases! The gameplay was really fun and I’d love to see more of it in the future. Overall this was a fantastic game, it truly kept me on the edge of my seat and entertained the entire way through. There was never a dull moment and I can only hope to see more.

Awesome. Really enjoyed it. Been a long time since I've played text heavy Japanese games like this one (final fantasy 7), so it does need getting used to if youre not familiar with such a style, but the puzzles were challenging enough for me to be interested. Ad the prices for the extra cases were quite reasonable. The only thing to complain about is the faux Scottish(?) dialect by Ms Baker. It seemed a little contrived.

Fantastic!. This game is amazing - one of a kind. Have not seen similar on AppStore although if there are any I’d love to play them. The detective stuff is clever and requires thought. There is a lot of great word humour, puns etc. But what takes it to another level is the development of the bigger plot and characters as the cases progress. Hope there can be more! But I guess all good stories come to an end.

Less Layton, More Wright, Every Bit As Good. Don't let the name fool you. This game has less to do with the bizarre puzzles of the Professor Layton series and more to do with the criminal investigations of the Ace Attorney saga. And it is every bit as exciting, challenging and glorious as those titles. You play as Lucy Baker, the new assistant to Alfendi Layton, son of the eponymous Professor Layton (they were initially original characters but retooled into the Layton series, but who cares). Together, the duo investigate mysteries and solve seemingly impossible crimes. The gameplay is very much like an Ace Attorney game. You search for clues, break down inconsistencies, and confront the criminal with incriminating evidence. The puzzles are intelligent, if sometimes obtuse, but unlike the AA series which deliberately pads its length by having annoyingly slow text crawls, the text here is fast and smooth, and the artwork is creative and stylistic to keep you fully engaged from one mystery to the next. The highlight, however, is the soundtrack. Once again, like the Ace Attorney series, the music is excellent. The jazzy, bebop-ish soundtrack changes to suit moods and scenarios, and certain tracks will have your blood pumping as you break down the criminals before their very eyes. For those of you who were disappointed with the less-than-stellar IOS port of Ace Attorney, you can pick the full version of this game for 1/3 the price, and it is worth every penny.

Fun investigation-themed visual novel. A relatively bite-sized game similar in style to Ace Attorney. Worth playing every mission. Still works under iOS 14.

Great!!!. It's a great game if you like prof. Layton games! Some people don't like to play mystery, so if you don't like reading text and hearing what the characters have to say and having find out which gun the person was really killed by, then I'm sorry. But there's really no point in righting a bad review because your brain doesn't like mystery games. Anyways... It's a really awesome game with a great twist at the end!!!

It's really good!. But, the app shutting down? Kind of annoying. It doesn't save that often, so I find myself having to scroll through the same text over and over again. If you could fix this (bug?) It would be great! I would pay however much you have to to play it! I really wish I could continue to play this!

Perfect!. This is EXACTLY how I like my detective games. It has a nicely built simple storyline that subtly makes you wonder outside of the box for possibilities, and none of those 'hidden object' type of scenes! Well done, you!! The whole game is very structured and straight-forward. Love the art, love the music, story, cases, everything, please make another one!

Great game but.... Okay so I was enjoying this game a lot, it has great graphics, humour, good story lines, but then I came to case no. 6. This case is extremely creepy and I don't like that. I understand that this game is about murders but up until this case they haven't been this disturbing. I would really love to continue this game but I get the feeling from now onwards the cases will have something to do with the Puzzle Piece Killings and I don't think I will enjoy more cases like no. 6. Up until then it WAS a great game but I don't think I have enough nerve to continue with the rest of the cases.

Fun to play again and again!. I'm not a big fan of the Professor Layton series but when I saw this game I couldn't resist. I love Alfendi's twisted backstory and many cases (for example the walking corpse) gives me the chills but somehow doesn't stop me from playing. Out of all the things I've become a serious fan of I'd give this a record breaking five minutes after playing it as the least amount of time before becoming a fan. I always thought everyone hated it from the reviews I saw but apparently I did not look hard enough. Good job!

What the "Cluedo" app should have been. I just finished the game and am in total shock. My heart is bearing so fast. This was just the most incredible game ever. The twists and turns were phenomenal. I was so impressed with the recurring storyline towards the end as opposed to a bunch of random cases. I can't wait to revisit these characters and these stories again. :D

Incredible. I played this game around 5 years ago, and it still holds up today. An incredibly unique game that I’d love to have a sequel for, and the other levels are DEFINITELY worth the money. Great game all around though, plays for around 6 hours.

Hmm well it's okay. I have to agree with some of the reviews below. All you really do is press the speech bubbles and you can't really "fail" the game. Like while I was finding proof I kept clicking random things until I got it. You should have a limit on that and if you get more than the limit wrong then you lose the game. Other then that it was okay. I enjoyed playing it but that was the only bad thing. You aren't very "interactive" when playing and all you do is investigate the crime scene. There should be more options you can use and more places you can go. And hey, since you guys are Level 5 could you guys like make an Inazuma Eleven game or something? That's be like a dream come true! Thanks~

Fantastic game!. This game is a must download! The story is so thrilling, and the music is orchestrated and live! Clearly a lot of effort was put into this game, and it deserves all the downloads it can get! I look forward to any new DLC cases coming out in the near future!

Just As I Was Getting Into It..... This game is awesome and addicting! It really makes you think! But the problem is, just as I was getting into it, after case 2, you have to pay for the rest? Um...creators of the game, are you alright?? Not everyone has a freaking credit card!! The game should be free, all cases should only require megabyte usage! Nothing else!! Amazing- Layton fans won't be disappointed!. Okay so I have every Layton game on my Nintendo ds' and love every one of them. They challenge my brain and make me think outside of the box to find the truth/solution. Full replay value also. I was apprehensive at first when playing this and also the same about buying the episodes... After I began to play the episodes, it sucked me into its story and the characters. I agree with what some others have said, it incorporates Phoenix Wright into the gameplay (that's not a bad thing). The puzzles are gradually increasing and sometimes the answer is so obvious, I overlooked it. The good thing is that here is no penalty for poor choices. Overall, I reckon it's totally worth it. (Lol for long review... :p)

Well configured. I am really enjoying this game although I wish the English could be better. Thought it would be more like the ds versions but still enjoyable

Great game. Great game-definitely more ace attorney than prof layton like the earlier reviews pointed out, but the classic level 5 quality still shines:great characters; stellar music score(just wish there was a way to listen to them separately-they're that good); an interesting gameplay; and an efficient, albeit a little far fetched, plot line. Overall, a great experience and good value for what you pay.

Crashes upon opening. I was really excited to see there had been an update to fix the issue with the music, however I can no longer play the game as it crashes immediately after opening the app. Otherwise this is a really great game so I hope it gets fixed soon :)

Needs iPhone X/XS/XR support. Brilliant game, have played it over and over ever since first came out. However it would be nice to be updated to the full screen size resolution of X phones.

Not Quite As Expected But Still Enjoyable. This was a tricky app, I wasn't and still am not sure even that if this is the direction that the future Layton games should be heading (hopefully if there are future games). It is still an enjoyable experience with some interesting gameplay techniques... But I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that the speech-bubble communication method can get tedious and boring, however adding voice acting with an update may fix this. I was expecting more of a 'classic Professor Layton' gameplay experience like the previous games on the Nintendo DS systems and to be honest I would have much rather paid a lot more for a ported version of an original game (oh how I loved those cutscenes from the original games). All in all this game was a welcomed addition to the Layton series even if it does not appeal to those disappointed nostalgia seekers. I gave this app 3 out of 5 stars due to its new gameplay experience, continuity of the Layton story but lack of the great features we all enjoyed from the original games.

Amazing. This game was one of the best games I have ever played and would recommend it to everyone. I played it non stop and took up about one day of my life which I wish would go on. It would be awesome if there could be more packs because I would most certainly purchase them :)

Wow. Incredible.. This game is easily the best app I have ever downloaded. It's so fun and addictive! I love the design of the characters, the stroyline behind the cases and the charm of the whole Layton world. I so wish there were more cases to complete, however I can't seem to be able to finish the last case because it keeps crashing at the same point. However, I still rate this as a 5/5 star game because of how thoroughly impressive I found it. While some people were bored by the amount of dialogue in this game, I found it explanotory and quite intriguing, as there was clearly a large amount of thinking that went behind the cases you are required to solve. I absolutely adored everything about this game, and I would recommend it to everyone and anyone. The makers did an absolutely brilliant job in making this masterpiece of a game.

WOW!. This game had some heavy thought and brains behind it and it had a clever plot and journey. The new patches are amazing and this game is one of a kind. It is one of my favourite games and would love to see more of it!

Really good!. This game is so good. Like, SO good. I'm only limited to 5 stars so I guess I have to explain in the review. The plot is really, really good, and some of the episodes haunt me...😱 particularly the last case. It's really worth your money and time and, if you don't like so many speech bubbles, READ THEM! Some of the speech bubbles crack me up, and others make me hide under the table. I love this game, and the very last scene made me do an air punch!

Great! But.... This is truly a great mystery game. People who are saying its terrible haven't gotten the extra dlc's. (Buy It) But the only thing you could give to the game is some stability. I'm on the iPod 4th Gen (And its pretty close to brand new) and I'm on the final level. Case 009. But as soon as the screen goes black with Lucy walking up the stairs it crashes. Awesome Game. It's the first Professor Layton game I've played, but it's still really great. People are saying it's badly translated, but if you look at it closely, you'll see why some things are written oddly. :)

Is this a fake?. How can anyone rate this game as good? It appears to be a poor translation with cardboard dialog. This hardens back to the very first PC graphics games. Nothing like the DS games. This is actually an insult to the iOS and especially the iPad.

Don't regret a single cent.. Oh my goodness. Where do I start? Everything from the ingenious cases, the charismatic and brilliant characters, the witty and rich dialogue and the compelling and intriguing storyline that crescendoed into a fantastic finale...just pulled me in from the very first line and didn't let me go until the very end. I was drawn in like a moth to a flame, fat kid to cake or...you know, a detective to particularly puzzling mystery! Bravo. I'm actually really sad to see it go so soon, I didn't want it to end! Sooo...if there's a possibility for a continuation (because it left off on a cliffhanger!) please consider it! I would buy the next installation in a nanosecond! Again, fantastic job! Thank you!

Good game. This game is not about the cause of murder just the process of solving it. I enjoyed it a lot but I would like to know why the killer kill the victim kinda thing next time. I liked the picture and graphic, also the mystery setting of professor Layton. The grammar didn't really make sense all the time but you can still understand the story. I really liked the storyline and how every story in the end is connected, the characters have good expression and personalities. I'd love to play more of it!

Enjoyable :). Nice graphics. Gameplay is what it is, there's a lot of dialog that u have to read but it shouldn't be a problem if u like the story and the soundtrack. Some people said its a bad translation but I'm assuming this is just how British English is. The game is great and definitely worth a try.

For anyone else who's enjoyed this game, search up "Ace Attorney" and "Ghost Trick" on the app store. They're great games with generally the same idea :)

The English is fine!. Pros: - Nice graphics - The investigation bits are decently fun and have nice, intuitive controls and adequate descriptions Cons: - It tells you in the beginning who the culprit is - No penalty for incorrect answers - Ridiculously easy: even a toddler could figure out the answers - Cannot question all witnesses. Only one, which the game handpicks for you - Cases are boring and simple and lack any depth. - The "accent writing" gets tiresome. "It were summat else", etc. It's not poor translation like other people are claiming, but it's frustrating. Overall: There are MUCH better detective games out there.

Love love loved it: more please!. I have always been a huge professor Layton fan and I loved this spin off game too! I don't usually write reviews for games but I felt like this one was getting a lot of undeserved hate. Part of what I love about the professor Layton series and this game too are the intricate and interesting story lines. Some people have been complaining about all the dialogue, story, and clicking but I think it's part of what makes the games unique and interesting. If you were expecting brain teasers and cute little puzzles like the professor Layton games you may be a bit disappointed, I would recommend you try out "puzzle agent" (I loved it too: great story, fun puzzles, quirky graphics, 2.99) this is more of a crime investigation game, it is challenging, but the game also helps you out if you get too stumped! As always, I loved its uniqueness and the interesting characters (with written accents in this game haha) that the Layton games come with. My only complaint would be that I want more episodes!! I highly recommend you download this game, especially if you enjoyed the professor Layton games because it is uncommon for video game companies to create an IOS version and I would like to see that supported so we can get more. Sorry for the long review, I hope some of you found it helpful :)

Fantastic. Well, it might help if you've played any of the Professor Layton games before. Excellent spinoff of the original games, although this one was much darker than any other Layton title it was still very enjoyable. Relatively easy to play, even if you couldn't figure out who done it, the game helps you along a lot. Great graphics and very nice crime scene recreation bit. I would also suggest getting the rest of the cases, if you have the money to spare. Tho, good luck on the last case if you do, it was a dozy..

Sequel pls?. Personally I loved it. It's a great game, but in a sequel, hints would be useful just as they are in the professor Layton series. Hope to have a sequel come out!

Amazing! Highly recommended.. I absolutely loved this game! The game loads fine for me and I haven’t experienced any crashes. It’s definitely worth your money. The first few episodes get a bit repetitive but it changes up afterwards.

Overall reveiw. This game truly lives up to it's hype! The characters are extremely well-thought out and the gameplay is consistent! I enjoy how the first few cases are just to help you, then they get deeper into the story! I also liked how you had Alfendi helping you through the most-part of the game, but the last mystery is entirely up to you to solve! The bomb-shell plot-twists are amazing!! Truly a work of art! Some fans may have been upset for we were introduced to this stranger calling himself the son of professor Layton, but if you actually accept the character for himself, you learn to love him! (Or should I say them?)

Not so good. Dissapointing. If you like Layton for DS, this is NOTHING like it. That aside, it wasn't very good as a standalone game either. Too boring, the game holds you by the hand as you slog through about a million text boxes over and over. You make almost no deductions yourself, and when you do it doesn't matter if you're right or wrong, the game will pull you along anyway. The logic is ridiculous also. I chose the right suspect at first because he contradicted himself in his statements, but that is never mentioned. It turns out it was some nonsensical garbage why I should have known it was him. Wish it could have been better but I wouldn't pay for more of this as it is.

Totally unique, but has its issues. Game is really fun and has a great story. The mystery solving is really unique. The game doesn't go into standby well though and I keep having to restart from my last save. Also sometimes I'm not sure what the game is asking of me and need to guess all the possibilities.

Poor translation makes it unplayable. Grammar, spelling and clearly written sentences are important for a game like this. Considering how much text the game has, you would think they would hire an English person to assist with the translation. This is NOT the professor Layton series from the Nintendo DS era.

💗💗😋💗💗. Though it may not be related much to the normal professor Layton games, it rules! I couldn't stop playing it! And when it finished it really did make me sad. I wish it had more cases to solve, but all in all: it was great!

Very Enjoyable. The thrill, the plot twist, and the last case, where I had to search for the evidence without any hint at all. That is the best part, it really got my tension. After I finished the game, what I want to say was the same one Sherlock Holmes would say: Another Case!

Truly, no regrets.. Usually, any game that requires you to pay to play more can be suspicious and all the more, sometimes really not worth it. I have to say, I really don't regret spending money on this game. If you're looking to find extra challenging gameplay, depending on some other factors that you may decide for yourself along the way, this game may not be worth it to you. But if you immerse yourself in the story, it's absolutely worth it. The game got me hooked since the first time, just so interesting and addictive. The entire mystery about Alfendi Layton impressed me. Maybe it's just my bias opinion but I'm a huge fan of mystery games and so I really liked this one. But nonetheless, it's an amazing game with an amazing story (in my opinion) and it was totally worth it. Level-5's done another good job :)

Must buy. Definitely a steal for the experience you get. Though not in line with the old Layton puzzle games (I somewhat doubt the lead is even Layton's biological son), the game itself is refreshing, and can be challenging to tackle but it really tests your common knowledge. There are reviewers who apparently have no idea what to do or says nothing makes sense. Everything makes sense, you just need to think. Put on your top hat and use your noggin! Though the lingo can be a tad difficult to understand, it truly adds color, personality, and dimension to the characters. Beautiful game that enticed me to play nonstop Gorgeous soundtrack that will stay with me long after the game has finished. A satisfying story and worth the the buy.

Couldn't stop playing!. I love this game so much! It's perfect for those who love mystery. The amount of reading didn't bother me at all. In fact I loved it! It helped me understand the story better. I admit that the first 2 cases were simple and a bit mindless but the other cases(which suggest you to purchase) are more entertaining and require more thinking. Plus the art is fantastic!

Really?. People who like this clearly haven't played any serious detective game. This point and click linear bonehead game really doesn't come close to original professor Layton.

Great title, but.... Be warned, is a lot less like the Layton titles, and a lot more like Capcom's Ace Attorney series; visual novels (think a book told entirely with text, sprites and music) with a heavy focus on mystery and investigation. If you're expecting a quaint, warm, puzzle solving adventure featuring the professor, you're out of luck. However if you are a fan of mysteries, don't mind the quirky personalities that often are part of the visual novel scene, and keep in mind a lot of the typos are not typos but accents (many reviewers have been annoyed by it), then give the game a try. It is more then worth a look :)

Simply perfect. I have to say this game is my favorite of all mystery games. It's actually like you'r solving a real case! There's lots of reading, so if you don't like that then you might not want to try it. But the plot is amazing!! Easy ten outta ten for me!

Nothing to do with Prof Layton. If you're expecting similar gameplay to Prof Layton on Nintendo then you're in for a huge disappointment. Deleted after 2 mins.

A few important things to mention. The crashing issue at the opening loading screen is fixed if you redownload the game. There is also a button to restore purchases when you click the shop icon meaning you do not have to pay again to play the later episodes. Finally while not a traditional Layton game I still found it enjoyable.

Very linear. Not very interesting more like a storybook than a mystery. Lots of boring tapping to get through the story.

Amazing!. PEOPLE WHO CANT LOAD THE GAME: DELETE IT AND RE-DOWNLOAD IT AND IT WILL WORK AGAIN (then all you have to do is restore your purchases). This game was really fun and challenging, I’m a big fan of Ace Attorney and Layton (though this game doesn’t really match the past Layton games because of how dark it is). If anyone is looking for a good murder mystery game then I guarantee you will like this game. (Disclaimer: You only get the first 2 cases for free but the rest aren’t that expensive and it’s totally worth the money)

No BGM. Game has not been updated and the background soundtrack is missing. Very deceiving as someone who recently bought the full cases. I love the Professor Layton series and a huge part of it is the music in those games! Please fix it!

Great but needs to be optimized. I love this game. The characters and story are interesting and I bought all the cases. I would recommend it but I'm disappointed by the lack of music in the current version. Why hasn't there been an update to fixing these issues? Please update this app. I miss the jazzy relaxed atmosphere the music brought to the table. It just isn't the same without those catchy tunes.

Very unintelligent. I'm assuming people who want to play this type of game are looking for intellectually challenging & enlightening games. This is, however, very stupid and unintelligent. It looks like anime. So much unnecessary and boring dialogue. The whole "attack theme" is really low. I spend most of my time clicking so that the dialogue can end.

Good brain teasers. Some of the early mysteries in this game are pretty clever whodunnits. Very enjoyable. I enjoyed the first set of extra stories, but once the story starts moving towards its conclusion with the second pack, even though the gameplay itself gets a little more innovative, I found that the mysteries were not as pleasing.

First case makes no sense. Horrible writing, the deductions make no sense

Terrible. I'm not one to write reviews but this game is simply awful. Nice graphics but the game play is mindless, poorly executed and non-sensical. I spent the first half of my time just clicking on the screen to read little dialogue bits. The first case I tried made no sense and then when I tried to make the accusation, the character shows up and you have to click on the screen. But I don't know what I am clicking on! Grammar is awful. Clearly a translated app. Thought this was the Layton franchise that I played on DS but it doesn't come close to the level of Professor Layton. Unless you've got time to waste, steer clear.

Great but.... I absolutely loved the game and the plot. The only thing I hated though was the fact that you had to BUY the levels. Once you complete the first two cases you have to buy the next levels! Which is stupid. And a cheap way of making money!

Soooooo looooong!. I just closed the app after solving the first mystery. I resumed and it left me with about 50 slides of dialogue that I can’t skip! The first one was ok, but no skip option through the BS that’s not related to solving an actual mystery is a gross oversight.

App will not load after this update. I was ready to purchase the second set of puzzles and now after this update I can't get past the loading screen. (I have an iPhone 5c) While I don't believe these puzzles really have any replay value, they are extremely well done and enjoyable.

Wonderful. Loved the game, got used to all the conversation, really made me think, use logic. Gives you many chances to get it right if you have chosen wrong. Perfect.

Spent 9 hours of my life. Okay, this game is amazing. The puzzles aren’t some random knockoffs. They are incredible and sometimes hard. But that’s the fun of it. One thousand percent recommended. This is my longest review yet. It’s good.

Not for me. Nonstop pointless dialogue that isn’t interesting. I thought I would enjoy solving crimes if I could just get through the dialogue, but the crime solving is bad and makes no sense. It’s not clever and there are no tricks or twists, it just doesn’t make any sense. Instead of going ‘ahhh!’ when you find out the solution to a crime, it’s just ‘um what?’ Pass on this unless you’re a hardcore Layton fan.

Classic!- I’ve loved this game for years- 5 ⭐️s. First things first! 100% love the game, the setting, the characters, the story, and the implied romances! Secondly, I’ve replayed this game so many times over the years hoping and praying there’d be an update to further the story along! But alas it’s been seven years and that hasn’t happened... I still dearly want a sequel, I’d love to see Lucy and Alfendi end up together(all the implied stuff from side characters just makes a storyline I’d love to see happen with our interesting prof). Would I still pay for a sequel all these years later? YES! Boy would I! I’m sure that many die hard fans of this game that are feasting off of fan fiction as fix for a lack of story continuation would CERTAINLY COME BACK FOR MORE! Maybe there could be paths for how you could interact with the professor to chose how you’d like for your relationship with him to go, romantically or platonically. More story/interaction outside of the cases. See some scenery around the town outside the office for more variety in the gameplay. New ideas, with the classic mystery solving, mixed together would make a world Im sure would elate old fans and draw in new ones as well! I’m not at all sure if the developers will ever see this but I truly love this game. I was a little girl when this game out and this perfectly fueled my love for mysteries and art. I pursued my love for art and law and have gotten into top law and art colleges! I’m turning more towards going into law enforcement and it’s reality, but as my future draws me in closer I wanted to revisit something that made me think I could do it in the first place! Thank you so much for the game and the memories, but I would oh so selfishly love some more! Lucifendi for life! Thank you developers 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Love it, but new update crashes. This game was great, then the soundtrack stopped working, so they updated it to fix that, but now it keeps crashing on boot up for me...

Good Game. It was a great adventure, and the first Layton game I’ve ever played, so I guess the others have to be great too... I still kinda wished that some characters didn’t die, especially while the final case.

More please!!. I loved the game so much! I really wish that there were more case, I would love to see more Lucy and plaid and potty together on more case!!

I'm glad the musics back. So when I try to play the game before the update I didn't have any music. Now that the game has updated I get the Music back but Unfortunately every time I minimize the game it restarts on me. I love the game, so please fix so I can text my friend without loosing my place

This game is a rip off. I purchased the game packs, finished mystery 1 & 2 and the game continues to tell me I have to purchase the game packs again. Not able to use what I already paid for and there is no information on where to get assistance.

Excellent. As someone who has played the old DS Professor Layton games, this game had similar gameplay and was an overall very good experience. The tie-ins were great, and the whole overarching plot behind each of the mysteries (spurred on by the ramblings of “Potty Prof”) was masterfully written.

One of the best games!. I really love this game. I played the first 2 cases about 12 years ago. Now I bought the rest of cases and finished the story. It’s really worth the money. Really beautiful game.

Marvelous production. I have enjoyed each of the free episodes immensely, but found myself unable to make the purchase of the remainder of the cases since it keeps saying it’s unable to connect to the store.

Fun game with terrible grammar. I love this series of games. I’ve played the DS games and was excited to see a new one for my iPad but the grammar. I am not the grammar police and am not perfect but it stands out in this game. If you can ignore it, then it will be a lot of fun.

Keeps closing. I love the series but for some odd reason I can’t get the game to load. It keeps on kicking me out when I open my saved game

Love it. I love this game One of my favorite mystery games But after I got the new update this morning it wouldn't let me it. It keep crashing every time I tried to play it.

Real detective games. Finally a real detective game. this is the game requires thinkings and analysis to solve the cases instead of finding useless hidden objects

Legendary spin-off. A spin-off so good it could easily spawn a new series! Unlike most apps on the iOS store, this one is still fully functional despite its age!

Nonfunctional when in airplane mode. It’s a decent game with middling puzzles and an interesting story. Unfortunately it refuses to completely load without an internet connection.

I’m Glad that I downloaded this game. This game makes you feel like a detective and among all the detective games I had this was the best. I love the story and characters, specially the story about how did Alfendi got his dual personality.

Please don’t abandon. Really enjoy the game. The stories are great and I loved using my Scooby Doo detective skills to solve the crimes. I hope you guys make another one or add more cases for this one. Thank you to everyone who work on the project.

Sequel Please!. LOVED this game! Always been a Layton fan and Mystery Room had all the charm and mystery of the originals! I really hope Level 5 can turn this into a new series, Lucy and Alfendi are such great characters and I’d love to see them delved into!

3 stars so far.... I haven’t even finished the first investigation yet, but the simple grammar mistakes that I find very frequently are annoying as all hell.
