New favorite Roguelike. If you're looking for something to test your new iPad's graphics processor, download this anyway. It will surprise anybody willing to dig below the surface and find out what it underneath. If you like tactics, discovery, and something newer than new, download this.

Awesome. This game is awesome. Each stage's overall objectives seem straightforward: gather power-spheres; select and hack microchips; wipe out the viruses; and finally, advance to the next stage. However, in practice the mechanics are deep, the strategy multi-layered. For instance: - Each virus exhibits different behaviors and characteristics: some are durable and can absorb damage, while others are flimsy and weak, but fast enough to corner and catch the careless player. - Different resources allow the player to run different defensive or offensive weapons/programs. Some programs transform one resource to another, which might give access to a needed program. - The fact the resources are scattered randomly throughout each stage means that some microchips might not have a high point value, but might have value by being adjacent to a needed resource. This is the type of experimental game that not only deserves a place high on the payed charts, but fulfills the promise of what iPhone gaming should be. Kudos to the developer.

Deep, engaging, worth every cent.. When you start playing 868-HACK, you might immediately be under the impression that you're playing a lower-quality game. "What is with these really basic animations- can you even call those animations? I heard this was a Roguelike - where's the leveling? Where are the swords and sorcery? What is with those sound effects??" And I wouldn't blame you for that, but you need to play it a little while longer. Soon enough, you get what the classes mean. You know what the functions do. You understand the differences between the baddies, and you feel the constant, balanced, and quick risk-reward tension Brough keeps up every second of the game. The sounds echo, and killing enemies is especially satisfying with those crunchy little crash sounds. The hooks are in, and you'll never wonder why you paid six bucks for this game. There's siphoning to do, and you'll be damned if your best score, ever menacing you every time you start a run, is that low.

LUCK > skill. Mostly luck, some skill. The rules are lame. For example, complete a sector and all resources RESET. The game tried to be RPG-ish by letting you continue to get a "score-streak" but seriously... The RESET RUINS this game. And lets talk about LUCK... A massive RANDOM factor makes this game LUCK-DRIVEN. Random viruses will appear on board. You are constantly out-numbered. Some viruses teleport, others go thru walls. You are LUCKY if the ideal opposing program appears. Too much LUCK involved. FYI, this plays like turn-based Pacman: move around the grid, avoid viruses, lure them into firing positions. HOPE you see an opposing program. HOPE the grid corridors are scattered to yor advantage. Complete a sector, RESET. COMPLETELY LAME although amusing AND annoying. No stats, just a hacked up leaderboard. Too easy to lose, too much luck involved. Not worth the price.

Not very rougelike; very fun. Equal parts luck and skill. Mix throughly And drink. Repeat. This game is very replayable and frustratingly difficult - while still being enjoyable - even though each game is "only 8 levels". This is not an RPG, but rewarding puzzle ... That pushes you to get a higher score and, most always, die.

On Good Games. I balked at the price tag when I first saw this game -- I mean, five dollars for an iOS game? That's just crazy. I didn't bother. But then I heard a friend talking about it, and he really seemed to like it. I still remembered seeing it in the app store, so I decided to drop the money. Now, after a long period of ownership and hours spent waiting in lobbies playing this, I'd say it's easily one of the best $5 I've spent. It's a clever game with a lot of strategy and risk taking. I've had some surprisingly breath-taking moments -- like when I haven't been keeping track of all the cryptogs, have only one health left, and have to move to an open space, or when I need to calculate exactly how to spend my sparse resources to get out of being surrounded on three sides by ten enemies. It's a good game. I highly recommend getting it.

One of the best, now with 64-bit support!. Thank you Michael for updating this app! This has been a staple roguelike for me since it's release - gameplay is top notch and the glitch theme could not be any better implemented. It's a lot deeper than it looks, especially with how runs continue - if you like more puzzle-y roguelikes, give this game a shot!

Great game but.... The controls have gone dead. You used to be able to zip around by sliding your finger in the direction you wanted to move & the character sprite would move as fast as you did. Now after each time you move or attack, the game logic cuts off any input for a second and waits for the user to let their finger off the screen before accepting the next input. Basically, it feels dead. I have to wait for the game rather than the game waiting for me. Whatever was changed there is not for the better Mike. The super fast input from the previous releases was much better. The below issue seems fixed, so thanks for whatever you did : What the heck happened with the music in this release? The old music was great. Now it sounds like digitized cats being tortured. The game before this release was an easy 5 star game, but the new music makes it unplayable to me. People overlooking this unnecessary change are being too kind. Edit : It's starting to look like this is a bug on iPhone 7. *All* the sounds and music have the pitch shifted up.

On of my favorites. So, after months of playing, I figured I'd update my review some. It's one of my favorite games ever, no qualifiers needed. I still play a round every day or so, long after I'd have stopped playing most games. I'm still finding out new tactics and new strategies. It's a great game. Oh, and I'm not a friend of Mr. Brough, writing a biased review as one silly person is claiming of all of the positive reviews. I just really like the game a ton! Oh! And it's more than worth the $6. Buy it. Buy 2 copies. Buy 10.

High score game disguised as puzzler. This game uses mystery to great effect. The tutorial teaches very little and you will spend your first day or two simply learning what everything does and how to play. Once you do, the game is fairly easy to beat. It’s fun and feels good to beat the game the first time. Then it becomes super easy unless you start chasing high scores. This is also fun and adds to the replayability. Personally I would have liked the puzzle mechanics to be developed more across more levels, but still this is a fun, highly creative game. Oh, awesome visuals and sound effects too.

Mobile gaming perfection!. iOS games a lot of the time tend to stretch out too far for their own good. 868 is not one of those titles. A rogue like in the palm of your hands that is easy to play difficult to master. That is the essence of 868-Hack and it is the best iOS game I've seen this year so far.

In my app Hall of Fame. This is my most-played iPhone strategy game ever. Was obsessed with it for months and still play regularly. It’s super challenging (and, yeah, a roguelike so there are luck elements) but rewarding and deep as you get a better and better idea of the tactics.

Does support modern iPads. The resolution is off the screen on the IPad Pro. Tried contacting the developer but he is unresponsive. Will pursue a refund.

Greatest iPad Game Ever? Possibly.. This is arguably the best iPad game ever made. It is worth way more than the asking price and I'm being conservative. 868-Hack is a roguelike that is unlike any other available on iOS. It is quick and fun but also deep and strategic. Because it is a roguelike, there is infinite replay ability. It's the sort of game that takes a few minutes to learn but infinity to master.

A Hidden Gem. What a great app! It's addicting and really makes you think. I imagine it will take many, many runs to fully grasp and appreciate all the nuances of this game. You are either cheap or gave up too soon if you think it's not worth the $4.99. Seriously, I wish I could get this much value from everything I purchase. Thank you!

Stone Cold Genius. This game is a masterpiece in tuning the perfect amount of small numbers into a nearly unsolvable clockwork that, like the best games, is fun to just think about playing. And it's presented clearly with a perfectly unobtrusive control scheme which all just highlight the cogs for the better. "Difficult," and highly recommended.

One of the best. Love the game. The strategy is deep and every move has implications and meaning. Since everything is randomized it's always a new challenge. The only thing I don't like about the new update is that the controls are slower to respond. I used to be able to fly through levels but now I have to wait for my character to complete his move before I can move again. We're talking about a half second delay per move and it's annoying after playing the previous version for years.

Way too hard to hit the tiny buttons. Pretty fun otherwise

Unrelenting. At first, 868-Hack may fool you into thinking it's a happy little computer virus game to play casually in your spare moments. Maybe it looks like a chance to escape to a happy little game to calm your world. And then you start losing. 868-Hack stays open, and you lose again. This goes on for some time. You begin questioning your sanity. Why did I make that move ten turns ago? Why can't I put this down? It's a puzzle game built to brutalize you. Every move is significant. It makes you feel stupid, and it makes you love it. Heartily recommended.

Please Update!. This is one of my favorite games, and it’s unplayable in it’s current state. Please fix!! 🥺🥺🥺

Movement bug fixed!. A brilliant rogue-like that is simple, easy to play on a phone, quick to pick up, but hard to master. Been playing it for years, and I still keep coming back.

Not worth 6 bucks. The first 15 reviews are definitely by michael brough's friends because they all just say it's perfect. The unique gameplay is AMAZING, and the low-effort graphics pass as minimal, cute, and smart. As you get more skillful at strategizing, the game can keep getting harder. It's so perfectly balanced. BUT, I wish there were some point to improving your scores. Maybe the top scores' sum can be used to unlock upgrades for another game mode. It's an amazing game, but doesn't have the playability worth $6.

*Sorta* be wary of update. Best strategy game for mobile. Older issues re: slowdowns between moves is fixed with this update. Highly recommended! *Edit: slowdown is back with the newest update.

Well done indeed.... I gotta say that this game concept is truly exceptional. The learning curve was a little steep at first, but if you pay attention you'll get it in no time at all. I am hooked on this game and like the fact that it is a challenge! Well done!

The best iOS game of 2013. Yes, it looks kinda cheesy, and it's a small download and doesn't chew through your battery. But it's a very smart game, and you can get very deep into the strategy. At first, you won't totally get how everything works. You stick with it, though, because this isn't some 99 cent download. And soon you learn how things work. You manage to make it through a level or two, and at some point you get an aha! that helps you make it through level 4 or 5. Eventually, you make it to level 8, and you feel like a king. Then you go back to level 1 and can't wait to do it again. Once you master the streak, you'll see if you can't also score some points while you're at it. At any point, you can just stop and stare at the screen and figure out, if I move here, what will happen? If I move there, what will happen? If some invisible cryptog is sneaking up on you, you'll probably know where he'll be hiding. If another beastie is due to generate, you'll know when. If you can think ahead far enough, you can make it through the hairiest levels. Maybe. If you ask three 868-Hack players, "What's the best strategy?" you'll get four conflicting answers. So as simple as each component is, this is a very complicated game.

Excellent gameplay, lacks options. Like everyone else is saying, the game is great and well worth the price of admission. This one will be my go-to game for months, if not years. So what's missing? The game uses gamecenter, which I like, except that there's no option to input a custom name to your score, so the local high scores are useless if you're passing your phone/pod back and forth to compete with a friend. The game also lacks a sound toggle, although it does mute itself if you open it while your music is playing. If I see more issues, I'll update my review. If you're indecisive, go for it. It's a brilliant game you can play endlessly, for the cost of a meal. Note: a PC version is also on the way!

Well done. This reminded me a lot of the game Ending, but better. The ability to chain runs plus permadeth make this rougelike worth refreshing. The $5+ price tag is a bit steep for the content but I’ll get far more than my $1/hour justification out of it.

Awesome awesome awesome. This game is fantastic, the evolution of that Robots game where every time you'd move a bunch of robots would move one square closer to you. It has DEPTH, and lots of it. True strategy involved, without having to spend hours and hours going thru tutorials and learning archaic systems. Love it, one of the best on iOS!

This game is phenomenal. This game is great, but how can you not include an option to turn off the sound?

tightly designed and challenging!. you'll spend the first few games simply figuring out how to move, and then, how to die. later you'll gain an appreciation for all the mayhem and unfair odds as the defenders steam roll you over and over again. finally, you'll see the randomness is actually the product of a clear and predictable clockwork and that you alone have the power to HACK. maybe summed up best as a "crypto microgue"

7+ (iOS 10.x). If one were to take the best representations of a genre (eg, "roguelikes" or "roguelite") and reduce them to the barest, most essential elements, then it would stand to reason that the result would rival if not surpass most if not all other representations. 868-HACK manages this with aplomb, skillfully teasing users into one of the most elegant and simple experiences on iOS or any platform for that matter. I vacillated for so long (ie, roughly one year and a half) that I had almost forgotten about this title. I would implore you curious onlooker—whether committed to the genre or merely a dilettante—to avoid that mistake. Michael Brough, the indie developer behind this title, has crafted a masterpiece.

READ THIS. Buy the game... Now I'll give a reason Fun, it looks weird but trust me once you get it after ten minutes you will LOVE it srsly You are that happy face( yeah kinda weird) but you shoot lasers and take turns with the enemy and you. Yeah boring. But you get power ups and all of that cool stuff that help you get through 8 hard sectors, after finishing each one you get a new power up and it has GREAT replay value.

A Strategy Masterpiece. 868-HACK is a game that keeps you coming back over and over. It's simple on the surface, but hides the tactical depth of a game of poker as you try to play the odds and score big. Even better, just when you think you've figured everything out, the game adds new abilities and extra challenges to keep you hooked. If you like the odds game in poker, the position play in chess, or the tradeoffs in Settlers of Catan, do yourself a favor and try 868-HACK.

Interference Patterns. Where Zaga-33 hit the lean and mean boiled-down sweet spot, 868-HACK channels that feeling of complexity just beyond reach. I love the way the twin currencies dip and rise in importance, and how a given cocktail of single-minded monsters can complement or contrast with your current program load-out. The urge to PAC-MAN every stage is fatal, but just as often rewarded with a new take on program admixtures as you are with death. A rewardingly difficult game, and a real showcase of flickering generative system joy.

One of the very best!!!!. The first hour or so of play is almost the equivalent of being addicted to hardcore drugs, but once you unlock every permission, the game becomes virtually pointless to play and turns very boring very fast...oh well...JUST KIDDING!!! 868-Hack simply put is one of the most addicting and tough to master games of all time, just an absolute joy to play with a level of tactics and gameplay that would put classics like chess to shame. Make no mistake, this is undoubtedly the hardest video game ever created, but it's also one of the funnest and most rewarding!!!!

Says a lot about society. I bet the joker would play this game. He would want to take down society, to save epic gamers from society. 10/10 would highly recommend.

Bomber. Great replay value. Always tread lightly

More games like this. This game has a great balance of quick gameplay and interesting mechanics. Worth my $5.

Fully luck dependent. Not an impossible game, but certainly you're fully dependent on luck. I've played >2000 games now, and I've run a counter on the past 1000 as mistake-free, and I haven't advanced beyond level 6. Even super hard games like Hoplite give you a path to advance if you play a perfect level. The game is not aging well, frequently requiring multiple rotations of the screen before it displays properly. This aside, the game mechanic is wonderful, and worth experiencing.

Great! But not worth $6.... I had heard so much about this game so I finally caved and spent the $6. Waited for the price to drop, but it never did. After playing the game I can truly say it is a great game. *However* it is NOT worth $6. Wait for the price to go down (if it ever does). No matter how great the game is, I don't think I've gotten my $6 out of it. I'm pretty bored with it at this point, with no reason to continue. What am I working towards? No unlockables? Should I continue to beat my own score? I even did the "step into wall and debug yourself" trick that was floating around online. Also, what are the points for? There's no incentive that I can tell to gain points...

Need Undo - Programs are too small. Very fun game but I hate to die because my finger hits the wrong program. Can we please shake the phone to undo last program? I also suggest to move the programs to the top and put the score on the bottom as I like to swipe my movements off the board so I can see the screen. If there are programs there then I fire them off unintentionally so an undo for big fingers would solve this problem too. Checkout my app and give me suggestions. It's called Layer Lapse and it gives you super powers - thanks!

Deep, Rewarding Strategy. This game, like many strategy games, is easy to learn but difficult to master. Expect nail-biting moments while you tally up how many moves it'll take to get to the exit, and whether or not you stand and .D_BOM or .WARP and live to fight another day (or cycle, I guess). Excellent, like all of Michael Brough's games.

Phenomenal. cyber roguelike featuring innovative and compelling gameplay, elegantly intertwined mechanics, and brilliant design.

Simple and deep at the same time. I've never had a game like this. The first 9 minutes I'm thinking "I wasted my money, I don't even understand what I'm doing" but then it just clicked! Part if the game is finding out what things do and how to use them. It's amazing and will always have replay value. Worth every penny.

A few understatements. A transcendent harmony of complexity and simplicity. Mercilessly enslaving. Boundless in challenge and charm. The peerless apotheosis of game. If every perfect aspect about this game were described, I suppose even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

Cool, Unique Game. I bought this game to kill time during a trip from California to Texas. The price point is scary, but I found that it was worth every penny. This game is unpredictable, unique, deeply strategic and most importantly forever replayable. Strategy fans looking to get a great experience on their phones have found it. It's just not very accessible to most iOS gamers.

Amazing game on iPad speed issues on iPhone. I have been playing this game on my iPad since it’s release and have always gone back to it. The challenging yet balanced turn based system is fun and addicting. But there are some strange sound and performance issues with the iPhone. PLEASE FIX!!! I love this game and would love to be able to play on my breaks without lugging around an iPad.

Very good...but. This game is really well made, and extremely tough...however I feel that 4.99 is not worth it...it’s the same thing over and over again, no story, no changes, just a smiling hacker, constantly trying to get past 8 sections, while shooting 3 different enemies, definitely can be better and because of that I’m rating a 3/5, this is not a bad game at all, but 4.99 is not worth it for this game, when you can pay 2.99 for a hacking game with different levels and a big story all in it

Great game, meh controls. Love the game, wish there was an option for tap controls, so you could choose between tap and swipe

Meh. Don't waste the money.... The game isn't broken, so it doesn't get one star. However, especially considering the price I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the game. It's a unique type of game, but with little depth and enjoyment. If this was .99 it'd be easier to try- but the reviews were good- I just can't understand why. Perhaps they know the developers? At this point, I just want a refund. Don't regret your decision too... Don't buy it...

Less is more. This game was my first introduction to MB’s games and I didn’t get it when I first played it. I’ve since come back to it a year later and now really appreciate the game design. This is the first review I’ve ever written because I was moved by the recent update note. It also inspired me to purchase MB’s other games to support a creative indie developer doing something unique.

Pay for this game because it is probably the best. + sick neon glow aesthetic, just like in real hacking + utterly elegant systems of play + brutally difficult + confusing at first, only to later become crystal clear, giving sense of growing mastery + beating the game unlocks the metagame + talking about the game almost makes you sound like a real hacker + great-tasting flavour text + .D-BOM nerfed to promote strategy diversification + cooler - sounds creep me out a bit, but I mostly play on mute so no problems - difficult to do anything else in your life with game installed

Great game but no longer works on iPhone SE!. Amazing game. Download it and give it a try.

Brilliant!. I wrote this review some time ago. Michael Brough has quickly risen to the position of one of my favourite iOS developers since then, and it pains me to know that the high ratings this game deserves might be buried in the "older versions" review page. As such I have resubmitted it. Here it is in its entirety: I have to admit, I take ~$2 price tags for apps for granted, and was reluctant to buy this game at first. I'm glad I took the chance. This game is the result of a roguelike and a board game making sweet, neon love. The beauty lies in its obscurity - at first you'll have no idea what powers to prioritize and how to most effectively use them, and you're going to have some pathetically unsuccessful runs. Then it'll start to fall into place, and the game's many nuances become a second language. You can master this game, and indeed, the necessity to master it is part of the gameplay. When you finally do, that's when the game STARTS. I for one will be keeping a close eye on developer Michael Brough from now on.

Disappointing. Instructions are incomplete. As a result you have to guess your way through. Gameplay is rudimentary, driven by luck and short. There are many better games out there.

Amazing. Truly incredible game.

best game. intricate, incredibly deep but super simple to play.. interesting and obscure rules…learning is fun! it's so dense and focused, doesn't take long to play a game, but you can sort of keep zooming in and in and in with the interlocking details… forever!? tactical roguelike puzzle board game thing. possibly the best IOS game i've played. also, really pretty, all shimmering and neon. BUY IT

Latest update... Latest update Nov22 unfortunately reduces play area to a tiny box on my iPhone 6,this is a great game however

My GotY. 868-HACK game is minimalist and procedurally generated, with an online leader board and score chase and score streak elements which should give it longevity, and Brough's original statement of intent was to explore progression systems in games, which it does elegantly along three axes (more if you count the variety of unlock systems in play), with more than enough ways to kill yourself through greed. The programs you acquire in game in an exquisitely balanced risk/reward mechanic are obtusely described in two to four word phrases: but this isn't because the game is trying to be deliberately difficult. Instead, think of each program as an onion, which as you peel off the layers you find new and interesting ways of using it, either alone or especially in conjunction with other programs in the game.

Saw the review on toucharcade. And it wasn't wrong - this is a design masterpiece. I'm playing a lot more of 868 Hack than I expected to, it's worth the extra $

Perfect. I will never understand how such a pure gaming experience is relegated to such a small niche.

Mistook this title for a game I played in my youth. I thought this was a roguelike I had played years back somewhat based on shadowruns version of the net. Design your own programs, level up, avoid the Feds by burning their files on you. I was mistaken, sadly and am left with a game I am pretty dissatisfied with. Almost looks like some landscaping took place in the review section but cest la vie. 3 stars as it was my mistake but it's ~8.50CAD I'll never get back.

Fabulous game design. The game is deep and addictive, you never feel cheated by the AI. Gets better after a couple of tries when you start getting the mechanics of the game.

Great game. This is an awesome little game that I can pick up and play 5 or 6 games in a row. Very nice logic and flow to it. It's a little pricey but not for a game I actually play every day.

Games a masterpiece. But how the heck to you get to the secret level?!!

Repetitive and simple, boring. For $5.99 I expected a lot more. The graphics are simple. The gameplay both repetitive and boring. Maybe I'm missing something regarding gameplay. This is my most regrettable purchase on the Istore.

868-hack. This game is perfect. Extremely difficult, yet deep and satisfying in its simplicity.

Fantastic. Give 86856527 a try, and then come back and buy this. Takes what was already an awesome turn based strategy-puzzle-dungeon-explorer-cyberpunk-roguelike and refines it with new power ups and a nice unlock system. Really satisfying when you just barely sneak out alive...

Enfin un jeu amusant. Ce jeu vaut amplement son prix!

Crashes on start up. Im using 6.1.4 Os on iphone 5, Game crashes on startup Please look into the matter

True gem. This game is absolutely worth the asking price. The gameplay is perfect for a touch device, it is quick to pick up and has some really clever game design.

Perfect. I don't write reviews often, but I'm compelled to for this game due to how much I've enjoyed it. Took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to do (even after the tutorial), but after some play time, everything began to click. Great atmosphere and the elegant design keep me coming back for more.

The haters are wrong. Anyone who didn’t give this a 5/5 is plainly a fool who prefers to be spoon-fed bland pap. This game is a procgen strategy/puzzle tour-de-force with near-infinite depth, you just need to be clever enough to figure out how to survive! ;)

Hidden Gem. It really sucks that all the freemium games top the charts and games like this are buried away in the app store.... I was looking for something with nice simple, clean mechanics but with soul. I found it in 868-hack. No in app purchases (other than what seems to be an expansion, which is fine), no pay to win, no 786 different screens to navigate with loot boxes, "mail" messages with bonuses, crafting a billion variations of the same thing yada yada. Just a cool, good looking (as in crisp, not wanna be realistic nonsense)game, simple to play but deep in strategy. Thanks dev!

Not a bad game, not as good as the reviews make it out to be. The game is pretty simple and not really worth the price. In terms of length and complexity I think this should be a $2-$3 game. I would go back and tell myself not to buy it. Basic puzzle game with randomly generated levels. All abilities are accessible from the first level. Not much discovery to be had.

868-HACK. If you are a fan of Michael Brough's games, this may be his best yet. Addictive turn-based strategy with unlimited replay value.

Classic. My favourite iPhone game of all time. The game balance and design is perfection. If you like the look of the game then just get it. It's a classic game and I hope it brings you hours of fun like it did for me

Incredibly fun and hard to put down. It's easy to learn, but hard to master, and a really fun game.

Classic masterpiece. This is an oldie but a goodie and I don't even love retro. The game plays kind of like tactical chess with the rogue like feel. Endless replayability. This game is one of my all-time faves. Btw I hate viruses.

Fantastic game. The graphics, the gameplay, the sound. Everything about this game is awesome. It reminds me of chess with power ups and lasers. Too much fun. The price is more than your usual app but this is no usual app. Support this dev so he can keep the awesome games coming!

iOS8 support. Loved the game until it stopped working with iOS 8 release. Taking too lon for an update for a $6 app.

Terrible experience so far. Loads of people say this game is great, but I can't seem to be able to get it to work. The app will load on my 5C with ios8, but then it won't load up anything on the screen after the loading screen. I can hear sounds, but I cannot do anything. I would be happy to change my review but until this gets fixed my $6 I spent on this game are wasted.

Awesome, addictive!. Great, worth every penny! Can't stop playing this game !

Just About Perfect. This is astonishingly good. It expects you to figure things out for yourself and there's a bit if a learning curve, but it's so very worth it.

Take the Leap. Over-expensive, horrifically obtuse, and totally worth it. 868-hack is exactly as cool as pulling a fire sprinkler prank on Angelina Jolie.

KRILL FEAST.. Great game! 868 has a neat rougey twist and forces you to think 2+ moves into the future. I must say, the price seems a tad high, but this is a niche game and people need to support concepts like this... otherwise we end up with the same old same same.

One of my top games of 2013. Addictive, smartly design, awesome aesthetic.

Challenging!. Alert! Does not work on iOS 8! Needs an update. Not sure why it's 6 bucks but it's fun unique and challenging! Would make a cool gift for a computer geek!

Killer design - game and visually. Really enjoyable strategy game. The theming is fun; colors remind me of the ANSi BBSes I once frequented. The only downside of this game is that the tutorial is a little unclear, but after a couple short games you'll figure it out.

iOS 8. Is any one else having problems? Game won't start for me since I upgraded. Really liked it until this...

👌. You get your money's worth. I find myself coming back to this game every few days or so, and it's never a completely mindless playthrough. If you try to mindlessly plow through enemies, you'll rarely win.

A triumph of the medium. 868-HACK is a fantastic gaming and artistic experience that challenges the conventions of roguelikes and molds the genre into something divine. Don't be turned of by the price point - the game is well worth that and more.

Do not buy!. Probably the worst games I've ever bought. No idea how to play-controls are confusing and the tutorial is even more so. Get stuck fighting enemies you can't beat in a world you don't know why you're in. This has nothing to do with hacking and has more to do with the button-mashing equivalent of a touch screen. I wish I could get my money back. So Severely over priced.. Be warned.

Strategy and observation needed. The basics are simple but the strategies are not. I'm still learning and observing what things do, but here are a few newbie tips: - Move yourself so you fight enemies one at a time. They kill you if they gang up, so find a choke point! - Kill ALL enemies! If you leave any alive, they only get added to the next level, and then you're facing them PLUS the new level's enemies. Probably fatal. - Touch/hold on anything you want an explanation of.

Phenomenal!. Exactly what iOS needs. Simple, intuitive controls in a game with stiff challenge and pacing that lets you enjoy the game at your leisure. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Strangely addictive. I'm late for work. One more game on the can.

Better with less production value.. This game is more engaging than many made by the big guys. It's expensive for what it is, but you will get your money's worth. Addicting and challenging.

Favorite ios game. A someone who has spent quite a bit of money on ios games the last few years, this is unquestionably my favorite.

Deep, Immersive Strategy. Ignore any suggestion that this game is shallow; for those who have not cracked it, it may appear to be, but beneath the surface is a stunningly deep strategy game that makes you want to learn its mechanics.

A+. If you're refraining from getting this game because of the price, read a review on it and quit being so cheap. Puss.

Great Game. Hack keeps you coming back for, "Just one more run," and then I'll go to bed.

Fantastic. This game is fantastic. It's so addicting and it's worth every penny

Not for me. Not sure what the deal is with this game, but some documentation would be nice. It's like playing torn except you have no idea what to do... I figured out how to to play, but I never mastered this game. Not worth my $3...

Still one of the best!. 868-HACK is a classic and will remain a classic forever. In 10 years it will be studied for its tight and eloquent game design. There have already been numerous games that are directly inspired by it.

Addictive!. Every run reveals something new. Great, deep game. Totally worth it!

Finally.. This game is rad. It's addictive and it's simple. A stellar piece of highly thought-out, precisely balance gameplay. Poor reviews are from people who don't understand how to play. It takes a second to get it. That's half the fun.

My favorite iOS roguelike!. Seriously, this game is worth every penny. Get it now, you'll be glad you did!

So good!. Addictive. Well-balanced. So many choices! Get this.

Not enjoyable. I don't understand what all the fuss is. I spent a couple days trying to figure it out. The directions are unclear, the art is poor, and the gameplay stale. Wish I liked it - I tried but just couldn't get into it.

addictive. I stopped playing The Evil Game (candy crush) now I have 868 hack: for that reason alone you should give this title a chance. by the way: in case it isn't obvious, you can move by swiping the blank area off board.

Deep strategy roguelike.. As like everyone else, I was cautious about the steep price. After playing however, I was surprised. For huge roguelike fans, this is a must buy! This and Hoplite are my top favorites.

Expansion for a fee. I'm not a big fan of the developer charging a fee for the expansion. I think that updated to paid apps should be free and not at a cost. I'm a fan of the game but don't think that this was reasonable.

An excellent puzzle game. How long can you survive? Can you read the patterns in the matrix and escape their grasp? Find out. Get this game.

Fantastic!. A perfect package that manages to distill an extremely complex web of interlocking systems into something easily digested in five to ten minute spurts. The turn based nature means that every single move counts. A masterpiece.

Most addictive game I've picked up in the last year!. It might take a minute to figure out, but 868 will quickly become one of your favorites. Deep gameplay and tense moments you'd never expect from a turn-based roguelike!

Great game!. Echo sentiments of other reviews. Only quirk is no sound settings in the app or in Settings.

Good but worth less money. The game looks more promising then it actually is. It is 6$ but worth 2$

Fun, but too expensive.. While this game is quite fun, I have spent far less money on far better games. If I could get a refund I would.

Yeah, history borked in ios 8. like the man says, hold off on ios8 for now. Save games do not persist, so each time you're starting from scratch.

Excellent!. On a laptop, I play Brogue. On a phone, I play this. A+.

Do it. Great game. Price absolutely worth it for something as tightly designed as this is. Challenging and fair.

Great game. Interesting take on rouge likes. After some more time with 868, it's become one of my favorite games. This game is something special!

Fantastic game of skill. Deep strategy. You will die a lot. You will learn a lot. Great game!

MIKE FOR PRESIDENT. Mikes mind works like no other developers. What a friggin creative genius. I challenge all you so called gamers, let's support the man. Some of the best games in the App Store come from Mike. This man does nothing but give you tons of gaming pleasure.

I love this game. This is the brilliant turn-based Roguelike puzzle game I wish I could have designed. Also really into the price. So excited this is finally on iOS

Surprising Hit. Love this game – great ambience & mood, with a surprising amount of depth in a game that’s easy to pick up. I’ve been playing on and off for days straight.

The Flappy Bird of roguelikes. This game is rough. You WILL die. Often. But it starts to make sense, and you get a little further...and then on your next run you miscalculate and die right away. Then back you go, for just one more game...

868-HACK Game Customer Service, Editor Notes:

ok there was a bunch of random stuff all pretty minor but like, making it difficult or unplayable like the touch controls not lining up with buttons on-screen on some phones, or it being upside down also some genuinely minor stuff like sound not coming out of headphones? weird i think it's all sorted now but let me know if there's still any problems i'll sort out all the problems i have two small kids and long-term illness and i'm running out of money and i'm trying to focus on a new project keeping my old stuff running because of unnecessary os updates that break things isn't my top priority but i get around to it eventually honestly i really prefer the model of you paying once and then you've bought the game rather than the continuous IAP thing but there does end up being a bunch of ongoing work that i'm kind of not paid for and the cost of living has gone way up anyway i started a patreon, so if you do want to support me in a continous way you can https://www.patreon.com/smestorp but if not that's chill, i'll come along with some new games in a bit it's just been tough ok thanks for playing
